INTRODUCTION
Aim:
The main aim of our project “AUTOMATIC STREET LIGHT
CONTROLLER WITH RTC” is to control the switching of
Street Lights automatically according to the timings like day
time or night time. This allows us to realize the task efficiently
and effectively without the intervention of human by making it
automated and even we can avoid unnecessary wastage of
power by switching it off at right time.
Explanation About Its Working And Its
Future scope
Automatic street light controller using real time clock is based on
controlling street lights automatically using serial protocol I2C
which communicates between micro controller and real time
clock.
Automatic street light controller is a fit and forget system which
is operated in automatic mode without human interference.
Once it is properly scheduled . Therefore it has great future
and demand.

Microconroller AT89S51:
• The P89C51 provides the following standard features: 4K bytes
of Flash, 128 bytes of RAM, 32 I/O lines, two 16-bit
timer/counters,
•Five vector two-level interrupt architecture, a full duplex serial
port, and on-chip oscillator and clock circuitry.
•The P89C51 is designed with static logic for operation down to
zero frequency and supports two software selectable power
saving modes.
and on-chip oscillator and clock circuitry.
The Idle Mode stops the CPU while allowing the RAM,
timer/counters, serial port and interrupt system to continue
functioning.
The Power-down Mode saves the RAM contents but freezes the
oscillator disabling all other chip functions until the next hardware
reset
LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY
• The ability to display numbers, characters and graphics. This
is in contrast to LEDs, which are limited to numbers and a few
characters.
• Incorporation of a refreshing controller into the LCD, thereby
relieving the CPU of the task of refreshing the LCD. In
contrast, the LED must be refreshed by the CPU to keep
displaying the data.
• Ease of programming for characters and graphics.
REAL TIME CLOCK
• The real time clock (RTC) is a widely used device that
provides accurate time and date for many applications.
• The RTC chip present in the PC provides time
components of hour, minute and second in addition to the
date/calendar components of year, month and day.
• The RTC chip uses an internal battery that keeps the time and
date even when the power is off. One of the most widely used
RTC chips is the DS1307 from Dallas semiconductor.
TRIAC DRIVER AND LOADS
• Glass passivated, sensitive gate triacs in a plastic envelope,
intended for use in general purpose bidirectional switching and
phase control applications, where high voltages sensitivity is
required in all four quadrants.

POWER SUPPLY:
• The input to the circuit is applied from the regulated power
supply. The a.c. input i.e., 230V from the mains supply is
step down by the transformer to 12V and is fed to a rectifier.
• The output obtained from the rectifier is a pulsating d.c
voltage. So in order to get a pure d.c voltage, the output voltage
from the rectifier is fed to a filter to remove any a.c components
present even after rectification.
• After this voltage is given to a voltage regulator to obtain a
pure constant dc voltage.
RESULT ANALYSIS
• When kit is switched on led will glow, we need to reset and
press enter to update the date, time, year .
• One by one all the bulbs in the kit glows according to
allotted time

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES
a)Advantages:
1) Power wastage can be reduced.
2) Using LED Array cost can be reduced.
3) Using of RTC and LDR produces accurate result.
4) Usage of RTC makes it to consume less power it can be running even in
alternate Power.
b)Disadvantages:
1) If we forget to set alarm street lights will not glow.
2) If wrong time is being set in-between cannot corrected .we need to set all
the inputs And load them from the starting, which is time consuming
process.
APPLICATIONS:
1) It is used in major plant location especially in power
plants.
2) In India, it is used in Vizag Steel Plant in
Vishakhapatnam.
3) Central Coalfield Limited, Hindustan
Petroleum Limited, ONGC, BHEL, NTPC, Research
And Defense Labs, ISRO etc.
4) It is used in other developed countries like u.s.a, Russia,
and England.
5) It is used in defense area and confidential areas, almost in
every country.
CONCLUSION
1) It is fit and forgets system, as it works according to light
intensity.
2) Complete elimination of manpower can handle heavy loads
up to 7A.
3) Generally System is operated in automatic mode due to
technical problems it can Be operated in manual mode also if
necessary
FUTURE SCOPE:
• There is a huge demand in future because it saves lot of
time .Even supporting lights connected to sky scrapers
,towers, Tall buildings, Antennas which acts as street lights
during night time are also switched in automatic mode because
it cannot be switched on by climbing at odd heights it is useful

INTRODUCTION Aim: The main aim of our project “AUTOMATIC STREET LIGHT CONTROLLER WITH RTC” is to control the switching of Street Lights automatically according to the timings like day time or night time. This allows us to realize the task efficiently and effectively without the intervention of human by making it automated and even we can avoid unnecessary wastage of power by switching it off at right time.

Explanation About Its Working And Its Future scope Automatic street light controller using real time clock is based on controlling street lights automatically using serial protocol I2C which communicates between micro controller and real time clock. Automatic street light controller is a fit and forget system which is operated in automatic mode without human interference. Once it is properly scheduled . Therefore it has great future and demand.

Microconroller AT89S51: • The P89C51 provides the following standard features: 4K bytes of Flash, 128 bytes of RAM, 32 I/O lines, two 16-bit timer/counters, •Five vector two-level interrupt architecture, a full duplex serial port, and on-chip oscillator and clock circuitry. •The P89C51 is designed with static logic for operation down to zero frequency and supports two software selectable power saving modes.

The Power-down Mode saves the RAM contents but freezes the oscillator disabling all other chip functions until the next hardware reset

  • 11. LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY • The ability to display numbers, characters and graphics. This is in contrast to LEDs, which are limited to numbers and a few characters. • Incorporation of a refreshing controller into the LCD, thereby relieving the CPU of the task of refreshing the LCD. In contrast, the LED must be refreshed by the CPU to keep displaying the data. • Ease of programming for characters and graphics.
  • 12. REAL TIME CLOCK • The real time clock (RTC) is a widely used device that provides accurate time and date for many applications. • The RTC chip present in the PC provides time components of hour, minute and second in addition to the date/calendar components of year, month and day.
  • 13. • The RTC chip uses an internal battery that keeps the time and date even when the power is off. One of the most widely used RTC chips is the DS1307 from Dallas semiconductor.
  • 14. TRIAC DRIVER AND LOADS • Glass passivated, sensitive gate triacs in a plastic envelope, intended for use in general purpose bidirectional switching and phase control applications, where high voltages sensitivity is required in all four quadrants. BT 136
  • 15. POWER SUPPLY: • The input to the circuit is applied from the regulated power supply. The a.c. input i.e., 230V from the mains supply is step down by the transformer to 12V and is fed to a rectifier.
  • 16. • The output obtained from the rectifier is a pulsating d.c voltage. So in order to get a pure d.c voltage, the output voltage from the rectifier is fed to a filter to remove any a.c components present even after rectification. • After this voltage is given to a voltage regulator to obtain a pure constant dc voltage.

  • 18. RESULT ANALYSIS • When kit is switched on led will glow, we need to reset and press enter to update the date, time, year . • One by one all the bulbs in the kit glows according to allotted time

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES a)Advantages: 1) Power wastage can be reduced. 2) Using LED Array cost can be reduced. 3) Using of RTC and LDR produces accurate result. 4) Usage of RTC makes it to consume less power it can be running even in alternate Power. b)Disadvantages: 1) If we forget to set alarm street lights will not glow. 2) If wrong time is being set in-between cannot corrected .we need to set all the inputs And load them from the starting, which is time consuming process.

APPLICATIONS: 1) It is used in major plant location especially in power plants. 2) In India, it is used in Vizag Steel Plant in Vishakhapatnam. 3) Central Coalfield Limited, Hindustan Petroleum Limited, ONGC, BHEL, NTPC, Research And Defense Labs, ISRO etc. 4) It is used in other developed countries like u.s.a, Russia, and England. 5) It is used in defense area and confidential areas, almost in every country.
  • 27. CONCLUSION 1) It is fit and forgets system, as it works according to light intensity. 2) Complete elimination of manpower can handle heavy loads up to 7A. 3) Generally System is operated in automatic mode due to technical problems it can Be operated in manual mode also if necessary

FUTURE SCOPE: • There is a huge demand in future because it saves lot of time .Even supporting lights connected to sky scrapers ,towers, Tall buildings, Antennas which acts as street lights during night time are also switched in automatic mode because it cannot be switched on by climbing at odd heights it is useful
