Tipping In Restaurants
Tipping is an expected behavior from individuals after a meal in a restaurant. However, not every
individual will leave a tip or will leave a tip that is smaller than what is expected. This is one thing
that restaurants want to change. Behaviors on tipping vary across cultures, it is a voluntary choice in
the United States but a service charge is almost always included in a bill in Europe (Hessler, 1999).
Restaurants have tried changing the tipping behavior of customers in many ways. One method that has
been implemented is including gratuity guidelines on the bill. These guidelines provide the customer a
variety of tips usually 15, 18 and 20 percent calculated from the bill and imply to tip within the given
range (Hessler, 1999). There ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to reactance theory, in order to earn the most amount in tips, the customer should not be
pressured to leave a tip. If a customer is pressured to leave a tip, either through guidelines or a
suggestion, they will be more likely to tip less because the guidelines threaten the customer s freedom
to tip. Anchoring and adjustment heuristic can also predict tipping behavior and what can be done so
customers tip more. Providing the customer with gratuity guidelines will increase tipping behavior
because this offers a convenience to the customer. The anchoring and adjustment heuristic can get
people to tip more because customers are able to use the gratuity guidelines as suggestions and base
their tip on the

The Fundamental Rights Of The Indian Constitution
INTRODUCTION The fundamental rights were preserved in Part III of the Indian Constitution. It
guarantees the following rights and freedoms. 1. Right to equality; 2. Right to freedom; 3. Protection
in respect of ,conviction for offences; 4. Protection of life and personal liberty; 5. Right to education;
6. Protection against arrest and detention in certain cases; 7. Right against exploitation; 8. Right to
freedom of religion; 9. Cultural and education rights; 10. Right to constitutional remedies. The terms
fundamental rights have not been defined in the Constitution. Article 12 imposes duty on the state to
protect citizens for enjoying the Fundamental Rights. Each article has a distinct, important and
valuable fundamental right empowering the citizens. These rights primarily aimed at assuring political
freedom to the citizens by protecting them against excessive State action. They are given a pride of
place in the Constitution by the Drafting Committee. Directive Principles were enumerated in Part IV
of the Constitution. Due to the judicial enforceability of FR and its nature being negative obligation of
the state, many a times there has been a contrast between part III and part IV i.e. between fundamental
rights and directive principles, despite being a part of the same constitution. The Fundamental Rights
are enforceable. Whereas the directives are non ¬justifiable and are more in the nature of positive
affirmations of the state. However in recent time, some of the

Virginia Woolf s Theory Of Criticism, Poststructuralism...
Virginia Woolf seemed to think that something changed forever in society and in all of us after the
Great War. She claims nothing had changed; nothing was different. [...]Before the war, people would
have said the same things, but they would have sounded different (Woolf, 1929). She couldn t be more
right: most of the concepts that had hold the western world together for centuries were drastically
altered during the 20th Century, and Literature, as a reflection of the deepest fears and desires of our
human heart, changed with it. Around the year 1915, with Einstein s theory of relativity, the ideas of
time and space were subjectivized. From its cultural impact, this theory of Relativity expanded to the
moral realm opening the door to Relativism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Postructuralism claims that the person is not an independent entity, introducing the notion of the
dissolved or constructed subject; that is, that an individual doesn t make him/herself: their Identity is
shaped by social and linguistic intertwined forces. Derrida argues that by deconstructing our
intellectual universe we obtain a universe with no absolutes, a decentered or relativistic Universe.
From this moment, since the new Relativistic Society cannot define us, Identity becomes an inner
process of negotiation where each individual develops their own image of themselves. Decaux
supports this idea with his conception of Identity as one s definition of the self. On the other hand,
Harré (Yardley Honess, 1987) defends the idea of the self as a mode of personal organization
constructed through the grammatical properties of language, mode that is however not subjective or
belonging to an individual order but to a social or moral order. To him, person is a social concept and
self is the inner unity to which all personal experience belongs as attributes of a subject . Self structure
is, therefore, a social

Lavon Julian
Dr. Percy Lavon Julian was a spearheading chemist whose findings enhanced the field of science and
saved many lives. A grandson of a slave, Julian grew up facing a lot of obstacles because of his skin
color (Drew, 1950). African Americans during his time faced a lot of challenges like racism. Julian
rose above this racism and turned out to be among the most influential scientists of the 20th century
and a leader of civil and business rights.
Percy Lavon Julian was born in the year1989. Julian was lucky as his parents were educated and had
an appreciation for education which was not the case for most black Americans. Although his parents
had a great appreciation for education, Julian attended a segregated elementary school. There was no
public high school for black individuals like Lavon. Hence, he had no option but to enroll in a teacher
training school for blacks (Drew, 1950).
In 1916, Julian enrolled at DePauw University having a tenth grade education barely. On his first day
in college, Julian remembers being welcomed and greeted by a white man. He had never experienced

Physostigmine . In the paper, Julian and Josef explained how physostigmine is synthesized in the

wrote.
Julian s other contribution to plant science was when he was working as a director in Glidden
company. Following his successful research, there was an explosive growth industry for soya beans
(Cobb, 1971). He discovered new functions for the chemicals found in soya beans. This discovery
lessened problems in the world. For example, one protein called Aer o form was used as fire retardant
foam in fire extinguishers. The development helped to save lives of soldiers during World War

Keeping Cool On The Hot Seat Analysis
Chapters eighteen through thirty six in Keeping Cool on the Hot Seat by author Judith Hoffman
discusses preparing for and recovering from the press. Getting the correct informational statements out
to the media in a timely and accurate fashion is important to any Crisis Management Team; and being
prepared for any forum of public speaking is vital as one only gets one chance to make a first
impression. In order to begin preparation, it is recommended by Hoffman to begin with brainstorming
to come up with the any and all possible questions that the press corps could possibly ask. Having the
answers to questions goes a lot further with one s credibility than the answer I don t know. Some of
the methods of brainstorming can include: historical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Answer the question: use the advice provided earlier to formulate a clear, concise, positive answer,
with a quotable sound bite . (Hoffman 2011, 145). And Make your point bridging to a must air
comment/message. Every question posed can provide the spokesperson with an opportunity to
reinforce the major points. Some of the other themes that the author points out include, if it is a false
assertion, correct it; confusing questions should be clarified, but be careful not to keep asking for a
question to be restated, this will make the spokesperson look incompetent. Don t let the reporter put
your words into another meaning so what you are saying... is a common pitfall to avoid. The reporter
is never off the record when a journalist gets a hold of a piece of information that could stimulate the
general public, suddenly the record was never off in the first place. Going back to the ten Cs , calm is
one of the most important when talking with the press. Nothing grabs headlines like Donald Trump

Fear Has Been Tricking The Mind Research Paper
Fear Has Been Tricking the Minds of People From the Start of Time Do you enjoy fear? Fear has been
challenging the minds of humans since the beginning of time. All people can enjoy fear, and highly
despise fear as well. Fear is the nauseating feeling of caused by the belief that something or something
is out to harm you. Fright actually keeps us alive because it keeps our brain active and alert of our
surroundings at all times. Horror is contagious; most of our fear is not caused by us, but instead it is
caused by watching other people s reactions. The thin line between truth and make believe are
obscured when one is frightened of the unknown.
Fantasy overcomes logic when we let our brain run wild with irrational thoughts,

Children s Socialization And Control Of Children Before...
1. What role did the family play in the socialization and control of children before the 1800s? During
the Middle Ages and through the 1500s and 1600s, the family served as the primary unit of social
control. Within the family, power was typically vested in the father, and the mother and the children
were expected to obey his commands. However, the nuclear family of today was relatively rare in the
middle ages. Rather, a typical family consisted of an extended group of related people and other
individuals who were not related. The father, particularly if he was a merchant, might spend
considerable time away from the home. High mortality rates meant that either parent might have died
and been replaced by a stepparent. In addition, servants, apprentices, and journeymen sometimes lived
in the household, and neighbors were often present. Consequently, children were exposed to a large
number of adults who played a role in their socialization and control.
2. What role did children play in the colonization of the New World? Children were counted on to play
an important role in the expansion of European influence and became an integral part of plans to
colonize the New World. Indeed, for some people, the colonization of the New World was viewed as
an opportunity for children to be involved in productive work. Merchants saw children as potential
providers of the labor that would be needed to produce the many goods necessary for survival in the
colonies. Some people felt that work was

Colonialism In Australia
Introduction Colonialism is defined as the practice of domination, which involves control of one
person to another (Plato.stanford.edu, 2018). This usually involves the settlement of citizens from
colonial power in the colony. Indigenous Australians have been marginalised by settler colonial
Australians, results of this has impacted the way Indigenous Australians are viewed and treated in
contemporary society. Indigenous people have struggled to regain their rights such as reclaiming their
identities that were misappropriate by the presence of colonials (Maddison, 2013).

contemporary Australia. In many ways settler colonials continue to dominate ... Show more content on

Terra Nullius is an example of how settler colonialism tried to take ownership of Australian land. Terra
Nullius is a Latin word that means land belonging to no one (Craven and Parbury, 1999). Captain
James Cook claimed Australia and declared that Australia seems to have no fixed habitation but
instead habitants of the land, move around from place to place like wild beasts in search of food
(Craven and Parbury, 1999). The British settlement and takeover of Australia affected, attitudes and
treatment of Indigenous. Terra Nullius denied the humanity and existence of Indigenous Australians
and can be considered the cause of most racism towards Indigenous Australia. This has led to the
White Australia Act, which depended on the non existence of Indigenous and also the racialisation of
Indigenous Australians. The Indigenous population in Australia became subject to racialised identity
categories based on their degrees of blood, labelling and classifying people as full blood, half cast
(Maddison, 2013). This policy led to removing Indigenous children from their families and
communities. This policy was enforced with the intention to erase the Indigenous population, by
blending them into invisibility within the colonial population (Maddison, 2013). However, in 2008,
the federal parliament gave an apology to the stolen generation (The Conversation, 2018). This comes

Tattooing Research Paper

19 October 2016
Global Tattoo Methods Throughout history, people have used, invented, and modified ways of
permanently inking the skin. Tattooing is believed to have begun in the Neolithic Era, also known as
the New Stone Age, which was between 4,500 and 2000 B.C. The very first tattoo discovered was on
a mummy located in South America. There are four main methods sued globally in order to create
tattoo, though there are many more that aren t generally recognized. Currently in use are machines,
bamboo handles, the striking stick and rake, and the metal tube. In this essay, these methods and their
origins will be thoroughly explained. The Western Standard of tattooing is the use of an electric tattoo
machine, also referred to as an iron. These machines possess a tube that contains needles. The needles
pierce the skin at a very quick rate, around fifty to three thousand times per minute, depending upon
the artist and design. There are two types of tattooing machines: coil and rotary. A coil machine uses
electromagnetic currents that reverse the springs inside, which cause the needle to puncture ... Show

This technique originated an estimated 3,000 years ago in Buddhist temples and were definitely
influenced by religious beliefs. Eventually, they lost their religious importance. A numerous amount of
sessions are needed in order to achieve these types of tattoos. The artist s bamboo handle holds twelve
needles that they must bring in and out of the skin to create a pattern. This process can take hundreds
upon hundreds of hours. Typically, the artist stretches out the skin for a smooth surface while
simultaneously making punctures to create the desired effect. Some of the most intricate and notable
patterns have been made this way. Furthermore, other ancient methods require just as much, if not for

nature with technology and weapons. Mother Nature can heal, nurture and destroy. In the end it

Pi finds difficulty in discovering himself in his own comfort zone amongst his family. After the
shipwreck Pi is left alone on a lifeboat with a tiger. In this scene an aerial shot of his head
overshadowed by the immense dark lightening of the ocean emphasises Pi s vulnerability. Pi is faced
with many challenges, miraculous occurrences and great suffering along with Richard Parker. Pi s
suffering gets revealed through the powerful storm scene where wide angle shots are used to portray
his weakness in the vast wild deep sea. The storm gets stronger Pi see s the horror it s having on
Richard Parker, as an extreme close up of his face shows extreme fear. As Pi screams God , arms
spread in supplication: Why are you scaring him? I ve lost my family. I ve lost everything. I surrender.
What more do you want? A wide angle is used so the audience can comprehend how terrified Pi feels
as he is encountered by Mother Nature. Deep orchestral music accompanied by crashing waves which
fades in to sadder choral voices gives a deep sense of Pi s suffering. The raft is swiped away which is
a symbolism of Pi losing his haven material possession which kept him alive for so long. Richard
Parker is a symbolism of Pi s primitive self braver. A high angle shot of Richard Parker is used to
demonstrate that even a tiger is afraid in the face of Mother Nature. Pi and Richard Parker are seen

Women s Experiences During The Holocaust
While women s experiences during the Holocaust were not entirely different from those of men, it
would be false and misleading to assert that they were identical. There were many instances in which
an individual s ordeal was shaped by his or her gender and it is only by understanding what was
unique to women and children, and what was unique to men, that we can provide a complete account
of what occurred during the Holocaust. One of the reasons it took so long for historians to
comprehend the importance of these perspectives is because women were busy rebuilding their lives
after the Holocaust. It wasn t until the 1970s when feminist scholarship was sparked, that there
became an interest in the stories of women survivors. Eventually, after the women were able to put
their lives back together and raise their children, it became important for them to share their memoirs.
One source of gender difference during the Holocaust experience women had more anticipatory
reactions towards Nazi danger. In Germany, even before the 1938 Kristallnacht pogrom, it was often
the women who had to assume new roles to rescue other family members. It was assumed that the
Nazis would not harm women, so it was typically women who went to the police, the SS and the
municipality to protest haphazard actions against their children and families and to secure the release
of husbands and sons who had been detained or arrested.

Case Study Of The Wendigo Psychosis
Introduction Certain mental illnesses are unique to cultures. They are recognizable only within a
particular society, at a particular time. Such disorders are medically and anthropologically known as
culture bound or culture specific syndromes. There are a number of fascinating culture bound
syndromes found around the world, and one such disorder is the Wendigo Psychosis. This mental
condition is linked to Native American culture, specifically to certain northern tribes such as;
Chippewa, Ojibwa, Cree, and Inuit. The Psychosis was most popular in the 19th century, and was
usually found to have developed during winter months when families were isolated due to heavy
snowfall, and there was not enough food supplies to get them through the tough months. Symptoms
The signs that point to the disorder were thought to be psychosomatic. Depression, distaste for
ordinary foods leading to poor appetite, nausea and vomiting, a state of semi stupor, are the initial
symptoms of the Wendigo Psychosis. Once the symptoms set in, the victim s ... Show more content on

From the case studies and witness accounts is was very clear that the individuals suffering from the
disorder were not in the right state of mind. They perceived those around them to look like a variety of
edible animals, and were deluded into craving human flesh. Their delusions, when serious, drove them
to act out violently, and attack those around them. Psychiatrists who have studied the disorder have
also tried to explain it by applying other psychological conditions to it. Since one of the main causes
for the psychosis is starvation, anorexia is seen to be associated. Individuals suffering from anorexia
have been known to go through extreme and dramatic mood swings, as well as phases of insomnia.
Linking these symptoms to the Wendigo, the delusions could have arisen due to insomnia, or they
could have been acting on delusions because of extreme mood

The Teapot Dome Scandal
The 1920s included the Jazz Age and Harlem Renaissance. During this time period African Americans
escaped racial oppression in the South by migrating to the North, this was later called the Great
Migration. African Americans sought improved life in the North, more social equality, and they
wanted better and more opportunity for employment. African Americans formally experienced the Jim
Crow laws and brutal racism in the south, such as the Ku Klux Klan that frequently killed African
Americans in order to maintain a social organization and end Radical Reconstruction. This migration
aided the creation of the New Negro Movement. This movement was designed to renew African
American culture amidst the United States. Moreover, the movement allowed for African Americans
to accurately express themselves through literature and art. Alain Locke was a very powerful leader of

Lack Of Training On Drug Disposal
Low concentrations of pharmaceuticals have been detected in the natural environment throughout the
world. They vary in composition, and can remain in the environment for months to years. Although a
portion of this pollution is from veterinary pharmaceuticals used for the treatment of pasture animals,
there is still a significant amount of pollution that derives from pharmaceuticals found in prescribed
and over the counter medications for humans (Boxall et al., 2012). Health care providers are
responsible for adhering to the regulations that govern the disposal and elimination of pharmaceuticals
within their respective workplace. Due to the vast amount of time spent with patients, nurses have a
special role in the prevention of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An alternative method to flushing is to mix the unwanted medications with an undesirable substance
such as coffee in a container, and place it in the trash (McCullagh, Schim, Ortner, 2012). Mixing helps
to hide and reduce the use of the drugs from drug abusers and seekers (school nursing). The
disadvantage of disposing medications in the trash is that landfills can often times run off, and access
the water supply (Taras, Haste, Berry, Tran, Singh, 2014). In the hospital setting, most inpatient
medications go directly down the drain (Strauch, 2011). Diluting is another method that involves
adding a solution to a medication to minimize its effects. Pharmaceuticals are dangerous to the
environment, because of their ability to cause change.
Long term care facilities and hospices are the primary sectors of the healthcare community that
contribute to environmental pollution. Hospice home care and home health nurses have a unique part
in aiding the efforts to reduce unsafe elimination and disposal of pharmaceuticals. They provide end of
life care to patients, and teach caregivers to manage, store, and dispose medications in a safe manner
(McCullagh et al., 2012). They are also responsible for documenting the disposal of medications.
Typically, patients in these settings have frequent changes in medications, and are usually with
polypharmacy. According to Blake,

Essay on Life, Death, What Dreams May Come
Unconditional love can be described as a pure affection bereft of circumstance. It is a true positive
regard of others that bares no judgment. In a sense, unconditional love has no boundaries. In the film
What Dreams May Come, the boundary between life and death fades and a family s bond is tested.
Tragedy by tragedy, unconditional love and guilt play major roles in the defiance of the laws of death.
Chris Nielsen, the main character of the film, travels to the depths of the afterlife to find his beloved
wife Annie and restore his family. In an epic journey that questions the very fabric of reality and faith,
the Nielson family overcomes all odds and is reunited in the end. Throughout the film, unconditional

The Nielson s genuine compassion for their young makes it exceptionally difficult to lose Marie and
Ian later on. When both children are killed in a car accident on the way to school, the chain of
misfortune begins to claim the family. Annie, who had the nanny bring the kids to school that morning
due to a work commitment, blamed herself for the loss of her children. When the lives of children are
taken too soon, it is as if they are cheated of having a chance at life, and the parents are punished for
no reason. Upon realizing this, Annie is institutionalized for depression and suicidal tendencies. The
film clearly shows Annie s devastation by her appearance. Her long, brown hair is now chopped short
and she smokes cigarettes. This physical deterioration coincides with the emotional trauma that occurs
when a child dies. The loss of her children infected her heart with an unwarranted guilt that made her
question her faith in herself, her religion, and her marriage. When Chris mentions getting a divorce
because she is so lifeless, she realizes that losing the only love left in her life would kill her. Their
unconditional love is strengthened by the loss and Annie learns to forgive herself over time.
Forgiveness is often the first step, whether in saving a marriage or a long term emotional healing
process. The next life that is lost occurs on the

Indian Boarding School
The purpose of the Indian Boarding school is similar to the missionaries. It is to completely convert to
be taught the correct or acceptable way. The indigenous culture was viewed inappropriate so attending
the new structured school created this foundation of following the dominated culture. The children are
enrolled to learn more of the countries culture, rather than learning their tribe s culture or language.
One is basically removed and involved to convert into the acceptable education. The Boarding School
and original missionaries have similar tactics that are either transitioned or continued to be practiced.
When enrolled to either of these locations, the practice of their culture is inappropriate. The authority
will go to all extent to isolate from the indigenous culture and also will punish if there is anything
practiced like language or traditions. There is a new value or education system that needs to be
demonstrated and heavily imposed on the indigenous individual. The authorities of both are not

The issue is the laws will defend the defendant and will not assist the victim in any manner. The
victim must present their case and tell their story as the defendant is lawfully right to be silent
throughout the court case. This model is corrupt not issuing the indigenous women s issue and only
helping the men out. For in this case rape was considered right because women are considered
property which is an act of claim. The peacemaking model cannot be related to sexual violence
because this model is demonstrating blame. Basically states we both have the same equal
responsibility for what has been enacted. It can be worked out from both the victim and the defendant,

Influences On Correctional Officers And Correctional Officers
Influences on these professions include things like one s gender, mental capacity, education, social
norms, professional codes, ones values and beliefs. All of these influences help correctional officers,
treatment staff, probation, and parole officers determine and make ethical decisions. One influence
that stood out to me most was the correctional officer subculture. Correctional officer subculture has a
huge effect on correctional officer, police officer and even the public. The correctional officer
subculture accepts excessive force as a norm in one s job routine. It also expressed its willingness to
use deceit, to cover up for wrong doing. For example, a new correction officer observes a senior
officer use too much force on an individual. The new officer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Individualism promotes the individual with longer interest. With parole, probation, and a correction
officer all make the decision about what is best for their clients as well as the community, by keeping
the community safe of harm. These attitudes and beliefs influence how individuals within certain
settings would react to some situations.
Correction officers, treatment staff, probation and parole officers all have similarities as well as
differences. These professions all deal with individual who have broken the law. These professions all
supervise offenders activities, by keeping and watching over these offenders keeps the community
safe and free if criminal behaviors. Although these professions are similar they also have differences.
Correctional Officer are individuals who supervise, and control over inmates who are awaiting trial or

worst of the worst inmates are supervised. The inmates have little to no contact with officers or other

The Reprimand Essay
Sympathy in The Reprimand Sympathy is an extension of empathic concern, or the perception,
understanding, and reaction to the distress or need of another human being. Sympathy must be given
and received in order for the world to operate because all humans make mistakes that impact other
people s lives. The Reprimand is a short phone play written by Jane Anderson in 2000. The two
characters, Rhona and Mim, have a confrontation about what Rhona believes to be an inappropriate
remark during a meeting. In The Reprimand, Mim deserves the most sympathy from the audience
because Rhona intentionally manipulates her into believing she is not respected by her male co
workers. Mim deserves the most sympathy because Rhona tells her that she ... Show more content on

This single comment by Mim lets everyone know that she really is hurt by the situation. In any
situation, the audience will give sympathy to the character who is degraded by the other characters just
like Mim is degraded by Rhona. Rhona does not deserve the sympathy of the audience because she
did not handle the situation in a professional manner. She is too forceful and degrading to Mim when
she confronts her about Mim s comment. Rhona says, but you didn t say better, you said bigger
(Anderson 1783). She corrects what Mim meant by her comment to make her sound like she was
trying to be mean, when she actually was trying to do something nice for her because it was Rhona s
project. She was implying that Rhona deserved the big chair because it was her project and she would
most likely be leading the meeting with the other employees. This act of kindness and respect is
turned around to be mean and disrespectful by Rhona. Rhona says, Honey, there was a reason why
Dick and Danny asked you all the follow up questions (Anderson 1784). Rhona is implying to Mim
that she took the attention away from her even though she is the one who is in charge of the project.
Sympathy should not be given to Rhona because she comes across as a selfish woman who just wants
to be the center of attention. Most people do not appreciate this type of personality. One last
meaningful thing that Rhona

Human Immunodeficiency Virus Infection And Acquired...
Introduction:
Human immunodeficiency virus infection and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) is a
pandemic which infects the human immune system with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).1
The term HIV/AIDS describes the entire cascade and progression of disease from the initial infection
with HIV to the later, more severe stage of AIDS. It is a global pandemic that affects 35 million people
(2013) worldwide and 35, 287 people in Australia. 2,3 Dentists need to be acknowledgeable of this
rapidly spreading disease and understand how to manage patients with HIV/AIDS.
The human immunodeficiency virus is a lentivirus (retrovirus), which attacks Helper T cells,
specifically CD4 lymphocytes causing the progressive deterioration of the immune system.4 Initially
when HIV is contracted, there is a period if 2 to 6 weeks called seroconversion where HIV antibodies
are not detectable. During this period the patient may experience flu like symptoms due to the initial
immune reaction.4 Next, there is a clinical, asymptomatic phase, which can last up to 10 years, and
during this time the CD4 count decreases, causing gradual immunodeficiency. This lead to
opportunistic infections such as oral candidiasis (thrush).4 Eventually, the AIDS stage of the disease is
reached and there are more serious opportunistic infections and malignancies.
HIV is mainly transmitted by unprotected intercourse sexual intercourse, vaginal, anal or oral sex.
However it can also be transmitted by

Difference Between Public And Public Health
Public health is its own system within a larger one known as the healthcare delivery system. The
healthcare delivery system comprises of many sectors, all with different perspectives and goals. Public
health and the healthcare delivery systems very much complement and compete with each other.
Public health as stated by Richard Riegelman is about knowing what not only makes us sick but also
knowing what makes us healthy and how that can be achieved if we come together and work as a
community.2 Public health is everything around us and because of that it has the responsibility of
focusing on everything and everyone. Public health looks beyond the answer for a cure, it looks at the
how, why, when, where, what and therefore a solution on how to protect not only the individual but
serves an entire population. Competition within the healthcare delivery system is something that
began the moment public health was developed because the process of public health was separate
from the development of private medical practices. We still deal with the differences between these
two sectors; one main reason being that their public health approach was population based and took a
prevention viewpoint when practitioners took an individualistic approach to cure diseases not prevent
them. 1The healthcare delivery system complements public health in the aspect that they hold together
a system that was created for the sole purpose of taking care of others health. According to the World

The Terri Schiavo Case
The Terri Schiavo Case
Research Essay
ISU
On February 28, 1990, twenty six year old Terri Schiavo suffered severe brain damage when her heart
stopped for five minutes. Terri s condition was the subject of intense debate and media scrutiny over
the subject of euthanasia and guardianship. Given the circumstances of Terri s vegetated condition,
and no physical proof of her wishes, the last word on whether or not Terri would stay alive was given
to her husband Michael Schiavo, by the state of Florida. Michael s argument was that he was carrying
out her wishes to not be kept alive in that state. Terri s family challenged Michael s claims saying she

These medical experts have claimed that starvation and dehydration are not painful or discomforting
for Terri or anyone undergoing the experience. In fact, they claim that such victims begin to
experience euphoria a type of exhilaration as the victims draw close to death. If such claims are true,
then we might just have to amend the history of such events as the Holocaust, where starvation was
the key process by which millions died. As it turns out, starvation was the primary means of killing
unwanted peoples.
Shortly after World War II, investigations have discovered that the Nazi Holocaust used the method of
starvation as the main instrument of torture in the concentration camps. The same torture that Terri
Schiavo suffered, and the same torture that medical experts claim are a source of ecstasy.
President Bush, one of the most powerful figures in the world, stated shortly after Terri s death that
The essence of civilization is that the strong should protect the weak... and we need to continue to
work to build a culture of life. As indicated by the International Criminal Court, starvation as a means
of killing is a war crime. The Court noted: Intentionally using starvation of civilians as a method of
warfare by depriving them of objects indispensable to their survival, including wilfully impeding
relief supplies as provided for under the Geneva Conventions is a serious

Propolis Lab Report
Purpose; The antioxidant properties of Capparis spinosa honey and propolis and the effect of
combined honey and propolis administration on urine volume and electrolytes were studied in rats.
Material and methods; Capparis spinosa honey (1g/kg.b.wt), propolis (100 mg/kg.b.wt),
honey/propolis mixture (100 mg/1g/kg.b.wt), distilled water (1 ml/kg.b.wt) and furosemide (10
mg/kg.b.wt) were orally administered to five groups of rats for 21 days. Urine volume, blood and
urine sodium, potassium and chloride were measured. The antioxidant activity of propolis and the
honey was assessed and their total phenols and flavonoids were determined.
Results; Propolis and Capparis spinosa honey contain polyphenols including flavonoids and propolis
demonstrated higher antioxidant activities than honey. Honey significantly increased urine volume and
urine electrolyte excretion. Propolis has no significant effect on urine volume but co administration of
propolis and honey caused significant diuresis. No major changes were observed in plasma
electrolytes with use of honey, propolis or their combination.
Conclusion; Honey and propolis have antioxidant activity and contain polyphenols including
flavonoids that were more pronounced in propolis. Honey has a significant diuretic activity alone or in
combination with propolis. This is the first study comparing the diuretic effect of co administration of
propolis and Capparis spinosa honey with furosemide.

How Morals Are Thrown Around Through The Actions And...
Andrew Robb In the tragedy Antigone many ideas of morals are tossed around through the actions and
speeches of the characters Creon and Antigone. Though these morals seem logical at first, it can later
be seen that these two characters represent an over fixation on singular ideas, or morals, of life when it
is taken to the extreme. This close mindedness ultimately leads to these character s downfalls with
Creon revealing that his moral extreme is the political sphere of life and Antigone, the private sphere
holds the truth. She wants to bury her brother, Polynices (Galens). A proper burial for those killed in
battle was essential for the Ancient Greeks (Fletcher). To give Polynices his proper burial, she
infringes upon her Uncle Creon s laws that specifically forbid her from burying Polynices as he was
an enemy of the people. She wishes to follow and interpret the traditions and rituals the divine gods
expect, and hence clashes with Creon s governmental status. Through focusing their entire lives to
these causes and desires, they have damned themselves to their own demise by being so close minded
of the world around them. Creon is a fatigued, wrinkled man enduring the weights of leadership and
has now surrendered himself altogether to the throne. Unlike Antigone, he has totally ceded his wishes
to take upon the mantle of administration. As he tells Antigone, his only interest is in political and
social order. This obsession with the state and civil order causes him

The Mathematical Formulation Of An Objective Function
Task 1 The mathematical formulation Description: To establish the model, firstly we should decide the
objective function. Analyzing the problem at hand, we are supposed to balance the goals of
maximizing the delivery to tumor area and minimizing the delivery to the critical area. Since we have
two objectives, we should choose one as objective function, and another to be satisfied by relative
constraint. Considering the real life situation, the ultimate goal is improving the health of the patient,
which means, any solution that kills the tumor but is harmful to patients is not allowable. So we chose
minimizing the radiation aimed at critical area as our objective function. Therefor our objective just
minimizes radiation aimed at the critical area, which we defined before. Set R The set of rows C The
set of columns B The set of all beams Parameters b_(i,j)^r r  B, i  R, j  C Beam intensity from

Vietnam War Archetype
Imagine being suddenly drafted to war, not prepared for the death and horror. Young, confused,
scared, naïve. During the Vietnam War, many young men were forced to face a war that changed them,
and not necessarily for the better. Many of the men who went to war experienced terrors that changed
them in a way that affected their lives after, as shown by countless war stories and poems. Norman
Bowker, from Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried (1990), is a perfect example of the hard bitten
war veteran archetype. Fighting in the Vietnam War and feeling as if he had a part in his friend s death
(Kiowa) caused him so much guilt and pain that he ended up hanging himself after endlessly driving
around a lake when returning home. Similarly, Yusef Komunyakaa s poem, The Dead at Quang Tri ,
emphasizes the ghosts that haunt soldiers during and after war. Overall, the haunting memories that
characters deal with in war stories, like O Brien and Komunyakaa s, display the long lasting effects of
death and war on the minds of soldiers. To begin, Norman Bowker perfectly exemplifies the hard
bitten war veteran archetype. He lived in pain, constantly ruminating on time at war and making
himself an outsider to society. He felt hopeless, always reliving the nightmares of war, like when he
lost his friend Kiowa to a field of waste. At the end of the chapter Speaking of Courage , O Brien
wrote, After at time he got out, walked down to the beach, and waded into the lake without

  • 2. Tipping In Restaurants Tipping is an expected behavior from individuals after a meal in a restaurant. However, not every individual will leave a tip or will leave a tip that is smaller than what is expected. This is one thing that restaurants want to change. Behaviors on tipping vary across cultures, it is a voluntary choice in the United States but a service charge is almost always included in a bill in Europe (Hessler, 1999). Restaurants have tried changing the tipping behavior of customers in many ways. One method that has been implemented is including gratuity guidelines on the bill. These guidelines provide the customer a variety of tips usually 15, 18 and 20 percent calculated from the bill and imply to tip within the given range (Hessler, 1999). There ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to reactance theory, in order to earn the most amount in tips, the customer should not be pressured to leave a tip. If a customer is pressured to leave a tip, either through guidelines or a suggestion, they will be more likely to tip less because the guidelines threaten the customer s freedom to tip. Anchoring and adjustment heuristic can also predict tipping behavior and what can be done so customers tip more. Providing the customer with gratuity guidelines will increase tipping behavior because this offers a convenience to the customer. The anchoring and adjustment heuristic can get people to tip more because customers are able to use the gratuity guidelines as suggestions and base their tip on the ... • 3. The Fundamental Rights Of The Indian Constitution INTRODUCTION The fundamental rights were preserved in Part III of the Indian Constitution. It guarantees the following rights and freedoms. 1. Right to equality; 2. Right to freedom; 3. Protection in respect of ,conviction for offences; 4. Protection of life and personal liberty; 5. Right to education; 6. Protection against arrest and detention in certain cases; 7. Right against exploitation; 8. Right to freedom of religion; 9. Cultural and education rights; 10. Right to constitutional remedies. The terms fundamental rights have not been defined in the Constitution. Article 12 imposes duty on the state to protect citizens for enjoying the Fundamental Rights. Each article has a distinct, important and valuable fundamental right empowering the citizens. These rights primarily aimed at assuring political freedom to the citizens by protecting them against excessive State action. They are given a pride of place in the Constitution by the Drafting Committee. Directive Principles were enumerated in Part IV of the Constitution. Due to the judicial enforceability of FR and its nature being negative obligation of the state, many a times there has been a contrast between part III and part IV i.e. between fundamental rights and directive principles, despite being a part of the same constitution. The Fundamental Rights are enforceable. Whereas the directives are non ¬justifiable and are more in the nature of positive affirmations of the state. However in recent time, some of the ... • 4. Virginia Woolf s Theory Of Criticism, Poststructuralism... Virginia Woolf seemed to think that something changed forever in society and in all of us after the Great War. She claims nothing had changed; nothing was different. [...]Before the war, people would have said the same things, but they would have sounded different (Woolf, 1929). She couldn t be more right: most of the concepts that had hold the western world together for centuries were drastically altered during the 20th Century, and Literature, as a reflection of the deepest fears and desires of our human heart, changed with it. Around the year 1915, with Einstein s theory of relativity, the ideas of time and space were subjectivized. From its cultural impact, this theory of Relativity expanded to the moral realm opening the door to Relativism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Postructuralism claims that the person is not an independent entity, introducing the notion of the dissolved or constructed subject; that is, that an individual doesn t make him/herself: their Identity is shaped by social and linguistic intertwined forces. Derrida argues that by deconstructing our intellectual universe we obtain a universe with no absolutes, a decentered or relativistic Universe. From this moment, since the new Relativistic Society cannot define us, Identity becomes an inner process of negotiation where each individual develops their own image of themselves. Decaux supports this idea with his conception of Identity as one s definition of the self. On the other hand, Harré (Yardley Honess, 1987) defends the idea of the self as a mode of personal organization constructed through the grammatical properties of language, mode that is however not subjective or belonging to an individual order but to a social or moral order. To him, person is a social concept and self is the inner unity to which all personal experience belongs as attributes of a subject . Self structure is, therefore, a social ... • 5. Lavon Julian Dr. Percy Lavon Julian was a spearheading chemist whose findings enhanced the field of science and saved many lives. A grandson of a slave, Julian grew up facing a lot of obstacles because of his skin color (Drew, 1950). African Americans during his time faced a lot of challenges like racism. Julian rose above this racism and turned out to be among the most influential scientists of the 20th century and a leader of civil and business rights. Percy Lavon Julian was born in the year1989. Julian was lucky as his parents were educated and had an appreciation for education which was not the case for most black Americans. Although his parents had a great appreciation for education, Julian attended a segregated elementary school. There was no public high school for black individuals like Lavon. Hence, he had no option but to enroll in a teacher training school for blacks (Drew, 1950). In 1916, Julian enrolled at DePauw University having a tenth grade education barely. One most famous paper was entitled Studies in the Indole Series V. The Complete Synthesis of Physostigmine . In the paper, Julian and Josef explained how physostigmine is synthesized in the laboratory (Cobb, 1971). This article is what I think was the most influential publication, Julian ever wrote. Julian s other contribution to plant science was when he was working as a director in Glidden company. Following his successful research, there was an explosive growth industry for soya beans (Cobb, 1971). He discovered new functions for the chemicals found in soya beans. This discovery lessened problems in the world. For example, one protein called Aer o form was used as fire retardant foam in fire extinguishers. • 6. Keeping Cool On The Hot Seat Analysis Chapters eighteen through thirty six in Keeping Cool on the Hot Seat by author Judith Hoffman discusses preparing for and recovering from the press. Getting the correct informational statements out to the media in a timely and accurate fashion is important to any Crisis Management Team; and being prepared for any forum of public speaking is vital as one only gets one chance to make a first impression. In order to begin preparation, it is recommended by Hoffman to begin with brainstorming to come up with the any and all possible questions that the press corps could possibly ask. Having the answers to questions goes a lot further with one s credibility than the answer I don t know. Some of the methods of brainstorming can include: historical ... Some of the other themes that the author points out include, if it is a false assertion, correct it; confusing questions should be clarified, but be careful not to keep asking for a question to be restated, this will make the spokesperson look incompetent. Don t let the reporter put your words into another meaning so what you are saying... is a common pitfall to avoid. The reporter is never off the record when a journalist gets a hold of a piece of information that could stimulate the general public, suddenly the record was never off in the first place. Fear has been challenging the minds of humans since the beginning of time. All people can enjoy fear, and highly despise fear as well. Fear is the nauseating feeling of caused by the belief that something or something is out to harm you. Fright actually keeps us alive because it keeps our brain active and alert of our surroundings at all times. Horror is contagious; most of our fear is not caused by us, but instead it is caused by watching other people s reactions. • 8. Children s Socialization And Control Of Children Before... 1. What role did the family play in the socialization and control of children before the 1800s? During the Middle Ages and through the 1500s and 1600s, the family served as the primary unit of social control. Within the family, power was typically vested in the father, and the mother and the children were expected to obey his commands. However, the nuclear family of today was relatively rare in the middle ages. Rather, a typical family consisted of an extended group of related people and other individuals who were not related. The father, particularly if he was a merchant, might spend considerable time away from the home. High mortality rates meant that either parent might have died and been replaced by a stepparent. In addition, servants, apprentices, and journeymen sometimes lived in the household, and neighbors were often present. Consequently, children were exposed to a large number of adults who played a role in their socialization and control. 2. What role did children play in the colonization of the New World? Children were counted on to play an important role in the expansion of European influence and became an integral part of plans to colonize the New World. Indeed, for some people, the colonization of the New World was viewed as an opportunity for children to be involved in productive work. Merchants saw children as potential providers of the labor that would be needed to produce the many goods necessary for survival in the colonies. Some people felt that work was ... This usually involves the settlement of citizens from colonial power in the colony. Indigenous Australians have been marginalised by settler colonial Australians, results of this has impacted the way Indigenous Australians are viewed and treated in contemporary society. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Terra Nullius is an example of how settler colonialism tried to take ownership of Australian land. Terra Nullius is a Latin word that means land belonging to no one (Craven and Parbury, 1999). Captain James Cook claimed Australia and declared that Australia seems to have no fixed habitation but instead habitants of the land, move around from place to place like wild beasts in search of food (Craven and Parbury, 1999). The British settlement and takeover of Australia affected, attitudes and treatment of Indigenous. Terra Nullius denied the humanity and existence of Indigenous Australians and can be considered the cause of most racism towards Indigenous Australia. This has led to the White Australia Act, which depended on the non existence of Indigenous and also the racialisation of Indigenous Australians. The Indigenous population in Australia became subject to racialised identity categories based on their degrees of blood, labelling and classifying people as full blood, half cast (Maddison, 2013). This policy led to removing Indigenous children from their families and communities. This policy was enforced with the intention to erase the Indigenous population, by blending them into invisibility within the colonial population (Maddison, 2013). Tattooing Research Paper Camari Michael Mrs. Lambert English III 19 October 2016 Global Tattoo Methods Throughout history, people have used, invented, and modified ways of permanently inking the skin. Tattooing is believed to have begun in the Neolithic Era, also known as the New Stone Age, which was between 4,500 and 2000 B.C. The very first tattoo discovered was on a mummy located in South America. There are four main methods sued globally in order to create tattoo, though there are many more that aren t generally recognized. Currently in use are machines, bamboo handles, the striking stick and rake, and the metal tube. In this essay, these methods and their origins will be thoroughly explained. The Western Standard of tattooing is the use of an electric tattoo machine, also referred to as an iron. These machines possess a tube that contains needles. • 15. Women s Experiences During The Holocaust While women s experiences during the Holocaust were not entirely different from those of men, it would be false and misleading to assert that they were identical. There were many instances in which an individual s ordeal was shaped by his or her gender and it is only by understanding what was unique to women and children, and what was unique to men, that we can provide a complete account of what occurred during the Holocaust. One of the reasons it took so long for historians to comprehend the importance of these perspectives is because women were busy rebuilding their lives after the Holocaust. It wasn t until the 1970s when feminist scholarship was sparked, that there became an interest in the stories of women survivors. Eventually, after the women were able to put their lives back together and raise their children, it became important for them to share their memoirs. One source of gender difference during the Holocaust experience women had more anticipatory reactions towards Nazi danger. In Germany, even before the 1938 Kristallnacht pogrom, it was often the women who had to assume new roles to rescue other family members. It was assumed that the Nazis would not harm women, so it was typically women who went to the police, the SS and the municipality to protest haphazard actions against their children and families and to secure the release of husbands and sons who had been detained or arrested. Such disorders are medically and anthropologically known as culture bound or culture specific syndromes. There are a number of fascinating culture bound syndromes found around the world, and one such disorder is the Wendigo Psychosis. This mental condition is linked to Native American culture, specifically to certain northern tribes such as; Chippewa, Ojibwa, Cree, and Inuit. The Psychosis was most popular in the 19th century, and was usually found to have developed during winter months when families were isolated due to heavy snowfall, and there was not enough food supplies to get them through the tough months. During this period the patient may experience flu like symptoms due to the initial immune reaction.4 Next, there is a clinical, asymptomatic phase, which can last up to 10 years, and during this time the CD4 count decreases, causing gradual immunodeficiency. This lead to opportunistic infections such as oral candidiasis (thrush).4 Eventually, the AIDS stage of the disease is reached and there are more serious opportunistic infections and malignancies. The healthcare delivery system comprises of many sectors, all with different perspectives and goals. Public health and the healthcare delivery systems very much complement and compete with each other. Public health as stated by Richard Riegelman is about knowing what not only makes us sick but also knowing what makes us healthy and how that can be achieved if we come together and work as a community.2 Public health is everything around us and because of that it has the responsibility of focusing on everything and everyone. Public health looks beyond the answer for a cure, it looks at the how, why, when, where, what and therefore a solution on how to protect not only the individual but serves an entire population. Competition within the healthcare delivery system is something that began the moment public health was developed because the process of public health was separate from the development of private medical practices. We still deal with the differences between these two sectors; one main reason being that their public health approach was population based and took a prevention viewpoint when practitioners took an individualistic approach to cure diseases not prevent them. 1The healthcare delivery system complements public health in the aspect that they hold together a system that was created for the sole purpose of taking care of others health. Analyzing the problem at hand, we are supposed to balance the goals of maximizing the delivery to tumor area and minimizing the delivery to the critical area. Since we have two objectives, we should choose one as objective function, and another to be satisfied by relative constraint. Considering the real life situation, the ultimate goal is improving the health of the patient, which means, any solution that kills the tumor but is harmful to patients is not allowable.
