should be covered
with scrim tapes.
• This will help to
reduce the chance
of cracking.

Preparation
• Floated walls with an adequate key
should be scraped back to remove all
the snots.
• Internal angles should be cut back to
prevent them being rounded.
• It is a good idea to test the suction of
floated walls.
• Walls that have been left for a period
of time may need to be treated to
control the suction.

Any particles of old plaster
can get into the mix and
cause problems when
applying.

Water used should be cold,
clean and fit to drink.
• Hot water will reduce
the setting time.
• Dirty water will cause a
flash set.

Mixing
Level 1 Diploma in Plastering

Mixing
Before mixing, it is a very good idea to check
the plaster that is going to be used.
Out of date plaster will cause problems by
setting too fast (flash set) and will create a
weaker finish.

Mixing
• Bags of plaster are printed with the use by
date on them.
• Wastage costs money!!!!
• Bags should be kept off the floor in a dry
area.
• They should be stored no more than five
bags high.
