This document summarizes an induction project on pop art research. It outlines tasks completed which included researching pop art from Wikipedia and the Tate website. Key points from the Tate website included how American and British youth in the 1950s-60s drew inspiration from popular culture for their artwork. The document then describes tasks completed in Photoshop to create a pop art poster, including idea generation, planning, production, and evaluation. The final product was a poster inspired by Andy Warhol's artwork featuring four differently colored cows.

2. Task 1 – Research – Web sources
Pop art - Wikipedia
Pop art – Art Term | Tate
3. Task 1 – Research from Tate website
American and British youths in the mid to late 1950s went against the dated
views of art. Their everyday lives provided a lot more ‘relevant’ art to them
like Hollywood movies or advertising. The youthful artists made art works of
these inspiration making colourful drawings and paintings of the original
source.
Britain and America had a difference in artworks. Britain used American pop
culture as inspiration for artwork while America used their daily life as
inspiration. In later years the US pop artist made artworks on the common
world instead of media while British pop artists still used American media, but
remade it to depict American everyday life.
4. Tate quotes
Richard Hamilton: “Pop art is: Popular (designed for a mass audience),
Transient (short-term solution), Expendable (easily forgotten), Low cost, Mass
produced, Young (aimed at youth), Witty, Sexy, Gimmicky, Glamorous, Big
business.”
“Emerging in the mid 1950s in Britain and late 1950s in America, pop art
reach its peak in the 1960s.”
“Young artists turned to sources such as Hollywood movies, advertising,
product packaging, pop music and comic books for their imagery.”
6. Task 2a – Idea Generation [individual]
Dave gave me the idea to make the poster have the design of the four framed
Marilyn Monroe. I chose to make the background green to resemble grass and
make the other parts have diverse colour to stand out. I made the cows various
colours to match the Monroe pop art painting.
7. Task 2a – Idea Generation [group]
In the group, me and my partner chose to make Warhol be an artist we copy from
and put his name on the side to be the one word we could use. We agreed on the
date and place were the exhibition would be. Because Warhol used farm animals
on his artworks, we chose to use the cow as the main design.
8. Task 2b – Action Plan/Schedule
Task Activity Who is responsible
1 Making the background green Jamie and Ben Brown
2 Putting the name on the side Jamie Brown
3 Using the cow as the pop art Jamie Brown after using Warhol’s
designs as inspiration
4 Different colours in the info box Ben Brown
5 Make four cows Ben Brown
6 Colour the cows differently Jamie and Ben Brown
7 Separate the cows via lines Ben Brown

11. Task 4 – Evaluation – Production
Describe three strengths of your final pieces.
1. We have a standard idea of what a cow’s colour wood be, but to see cows
in a wide range of colours makes my poster eye catching.
2. Remaking the iconic pop art image of the four framed Marilyn Monroe, now
as cows, makes a unique difference.
3. Making the poster similar to Andy Warhol’s designs makes my work similar
to his work, and thus, more eye catching.
12. Task 4 – Evaluation – Production
Describe three areas for improvement in your final pieces.
1. The cows should have more colour behind them.
2. There should be more specifics in the time and location.
3. There should be more detail in the rest of the poster.
13. Task 4 – Evaluation – Problem Solving
Describe three problems you faced in your project and how you solved these
1. I didn’t know how to properly colour but I got showed again how by
changing the saturation on the picture.
2. I didn’t know how to draw lines but I got showed again by using the draw
tool and the line variant in the shape tool.
3. The text was difficult to fix but I changed the size to fit the box it was in
by using the text tool to bring it down to 36.
14. Task 4 – Evaluation – Working with others
Choose three aspects of your production where you worked well with your
team and this benefited the project
1. Sharing the same ideas with my partner helped develop the poster.
2. Sharing skills helped the poster be made.
3. Feedback from my partner who knew the project made it better and more
eye catching.
15. Task 4 – Evaluation - Feedback
My feedback was to make my poster resemble the Marilyn Monroe pop art.
I also got feedback to change the colour of the grass.
