This week the student added narration and title cards to their project. They overcame issues with audio recording glitches and title cards being too long by recording audio multiple times close to the microphone and trimming title card footage. The student also created separate title card movies to edit them effectively. Going forward, the student plans to use short title cards and an iPad or iMovie for recording to avoid microphone problems. They learned new editing techniques and that their recording skills need improvement. The goal for next week is to publish the project and begin the evaluation process.

1. FMP 2 Diary Week 12
This week I added a narration to my project along with several title cards for the narration to speak over and
I fixed minor mistakes in the footage and audio, despite some mistakes I’d say it went well and I’m surprised
how short it was. I had to overcome two major obstacles which were the recording glitches and the title
cards lasting too long. When I recorded the audio the microphones kept on turning off and the recordings
alone sounded too far away or various pop noises (mike peeks) interfered with words but I overcame this
obstacle by holding the mice close up to me and constantly recorded the same lines until they were free of
mistakes. Were any mistakes were left, I used other audio to replace the peeks. The other obstacle was that
the title cards didn’t show up for very long and the rest of the footage from them was just darkness but I
overcame this obstacle by making the title card a separate movie where I was able to cut down the long
darkness in each shot. For all the challenges, the title cards went particularly well because after I cut down
the footage, I was able to use the same movie to create more title cards without long darkness. I used a
microphone I got online to record the audio and re-use audio from other recordings on iMovie to edit out
mistakes and replace them with proper dialogue. I also made the title cards by creating a separate iMovie
film and used it to create a title and trim it down to an appropriate speed. I’m going to move forward by
copying the tactic of short title cards in my future films and I’ll use the iPad or iMovie to record because the
microphones caused too many problems. The strengths of my products are that the discoveries I’ve made
with titles and the failure of my microphones taught me new editing techniques for future projects. The
weaknesses were that my recording skills still needs to be perfected. My plan for next time is to publish this
project and move onto evaluation next week which may make this the last diary of this Final Major Project.
This week has changed my ideas by teaching me to try and find a proper microphone and this has changed
my project by getting me to use a strong microphone from the college. I have encountered many challenges
during production such as lighting, the lack of professional practical effects, sound, not having enough actors
and editing the film to match my original concept. The challenges have helped me to learn lessons for future
films and how to make adjustments as the production progresses as a well as being flexible to solve
problems and to not be afraid to alter the original concept to produce a higher quality production. This will
help me very much as I make more films and is a great learning for the future.
