This week, the filmmaker faced challenges with the location, time of day, and getting quality shots for their film project. They filmed exterior shots of an isolated house before production to have footage to edit, though progress was slow since the story was unplanned. Finding a suitably isolated house was difficult as the chosen building was next to others and a busy road. The filming went better when cars were absent, allowing clear shots of the spooky house and moon that added scariness. Footage was captured at night on an iPad to achieve the desired darkness, rather than using a dark filter during the day. This weekend, the filmmaker plans to get more footage filmed so they have material to edit in college and stay on schedule

1. FMP 2 Diary Week 7
I faced challenges this week during production in the location of the filming, the time of
day and getting the best quality shots to be used in the film. I filmed exterior shots of an
isolated looking house before the production started so I would have something to edit
for my project, even though I made slow progress and I hadn’t planned a story yet, it
went better than I expected. Because I was trying to film an isolated house, the building I
chose had to look like it was on it’s own but it was hard because it was next to other
houses and right in front of a busy road. The filming eventually went well when I was
able to get a clear shot without cars driving past, the shots I filmed of the house were
very spooky and I was able to film a shot of the moon to add to the scariness. I used my
college iPad to film the house but I had to go at night to make the darkness setting I
wanted (filming it during the day and putting a dark filter over it would’ve made my work
look amateur), I then used iMovie to edit all of my footage together. This weekend I plan
to move forward by getting enough footage filmed so I’ll have something to edit while
I’m in college and I can be on schedule with my project. The strengths of my project are
successful establishing shots which looked creepy due to me filming at the right time of
day, the weaknesses I face were filming several establishing shots but only two of them
were usable which left me with less to edit during college time. My plan this weekend is
to film the opening scene of my project and then the establishing narration that explains
how the Public Service Announcement is going to be told. The moon shot changed my
ideas by me using that as the opening shot because of how spooky it looked and it fit
with the classic horror genre trope of those films starting with a shot of the moon. My
ideas have been influenced by the house shots because they’ve taught me how to create
scary lighting not just for exterior shots but for interior shots as well.
