Comparing Picasso s Guernic The Labyrinth Of Narrative And
Many reviews and analysis reference psychoanalytic theory as a base to establish definitive meaning
of why certain things occur and how they function. Ruthe Stein of San Francisco Gate makes brief yet
notable comparisons of Del Toro s film to Picasso s Guernica. Picasso s famous painting named after
the city of Guernica that was destroyed in 1937 by Francisco Franco, was a sacred town of the
Basques . (Russell 1). Frank Russell s notes in his book Picasso s Guernica: The Labyrinth of
Narrative and Vision , how the Basques lived in the mountains and they were adept at guerilla tactics
(1). Similar, to the rebellions in Del Toro s Labyrinth that lived within the mountains and forest.
Notably, the initial credits of the film stated that the

Rapid Diagnostic Tests In Rwanda Case Study
False‑negative malaria rapid diagnostic tests in Rwanda: impact of Plasmodium falciparum isolates
lacking hrp2 and declining malaria transmission
Combined malaria histidine rich protein 2 (HRP2)/ Plasmodium lactate dehydrogenase (pLDH) rapid
diagnostic tests (RDTs) are often used to determine whether persons with fever should be treated with
anti malarials. The observation study carried out in Rwanda on 9226 from April 2014 April 2015 to
compare the sensitivity of RDTs based on HRP2 and the Plasmodium lactate dehydrogenase (pLDH)
in diagnosing malaria using microscopy and molecular test(PCR) to see if there is association between
the deletions of the histidinerich central repeat region of the hrp2 gene (exon 2) and false negative ...

The study of clinical observation was conducted to associate a defiency in antibody responses to
plasmodium falciparum antigens; previous authors mainly studied on the antibody response to 0.5% of
P. falciparum proteins. To find a wide scope of subjects and minimize bias of HIV effect on antibody
responses to malaria a comparison study on antibody profiles of people with HIV and non HIV people
adults in Rwanda with symptomatic malaria using a microarray containing 824P protein of falciparum.
Using flow cytometry analysis of B and T cell subsets the researchers again investigated the cellular
aspect of antibody response in the two groups. The breath and magnitude of HIV individuals response
was reduced compared to HIV co infected generated antibodies with large number of P.falciparum
antigens as well as potential vaccine candidates. It has observed that HIV malaria co infection was
also associated with a higher percentage of atypical memory B cells (MBC) (CD19+CD10 CD21
CD27 ) compared to malaria infection alone. The variability in the breadth of P. falciparum specific
antibody responses was only partially explained among HIV+ individuals the CD4+ T cell count and
HIV viral load. In summary the results showed that HIV malaria co infection is associated with an
expansion of atypical MBCs and a diminished antibody response to a diverse array of P. falciparum
antigens, thus offering mechanistic insight into the higher risk

Tetrachlorodobenzo-P-Dioxidation Lab Report
Photodegradation of dioxins appears to be the only chemical reaction that leads to the elimination of
dioxins in the environment. Photochemical dechlorination and photooxidation in the presence of
hydroxyl radicals, ozone and PAN (peroxy acetyl nitrate) are two possible types of reactions. These
reactions, their velocities, their products are still poorly characterized.
However, in general, it appears that the photodegradation rates of dioxins increase when the number
of chlorine atoms in the molecule decreases, and that reaction with hydroxyl radicals is the dominant
photooxidation mechanism in the atmosphere. Also, photolysis is faster in the gaseous phase than on
particles or in water; The presence of organic compounds in water or in

Other studies have shown that out of a hundred microbial lines possessing the ability to degrade
persistent pesticides, only 5 of them possessed a certain capacity to biodegrade 2,3,7,8
tetrachlorodibenzo p dioxin . Some mushrooms have also demonstrated this ability in the laboratory.
However, metabolic rates remain low (2.23% after
30 days, 3.96% after 60 days). This capacity of the fungi is attributed to an extracellular enzyme
activity associated with the natural degradation of lignin. To determine the persistence of
2,3,7,8 tetrachlorodibenzo p dioxin, silty and sandy soils were artificially enriched with
2,3,7,8 tetrachlorodibenzo p dioxin at different concentrations. Measurements were made after
incubation at 28 ° C for 20, 40, 80, 160 and 350 days. After 350 days, 56% of 2,3,7,8
tetrachlorodibenzop dioxin was still present in the silty soils and 63% in the sandy soils, a slight
degradation was observed in both soils. However, other dioxin congeners are more resistant to
biodegradation. Thus, laboratory experiments on sandy loam soils artificially enriched with
1,2,3,7,8 pentachlorodibenzo p dioxin and octachlorodibenzo p dioxin have shown that at pH

The Boundary Of The Yakama Nation Reservation
Problems
The boundary of the Yakama Nation Reservation is considered home to different culturally diverse
populations. Parenting skills and teaching can vary dramatically from each of those unique
households. The diverse populations come with varying levels of what is considered appropriate child
rearing practices. Child abuse intakes are increasing due to families from Mexico coming here to the
US and the standards are different (Ruiz, 2015). Pilar Ruiz is a Social Worker at Children s
Administration assigned to the Child Protective Services. Families migrate to the area and they carry
different perspectives on parenting and may not understand the expectations of Washington State and
Child Abuse Laws. It is not only migrant families that need additional support. Families that have
been here for many years have traditional practices that may cross the line when it comes to child
abuse and neglect. These families that are located in this area need the additional support of increasing
family bonds, healthy parenting, life skills, bonding, and reducing violence and substance abuse.
Macro Personal Reality
Establishing positive parenting skills within the community will assist the parents in gaining new
alternatives to their current practices. Often we get the same families that are repeat offenders or they
never really learn their ways of parenting are not acceptable (Ruiz, 2015). Providing the Strong
Families curriculum will reduce the number of children that are

New York Giants Essay
Aesthetically, I really enjoyed the New York Giants website. One thought that I immediately had when
visiting the site, though, is that if I did not google it I may not have found it. Because there are other
professional sport teams called the giants I wasn t sure what website to type in, so I googled it and it
actually came up after their twitter page and after the Google in the news section. The layout of the
home page was very pleasing to the eye. I loved that they had a large picture of Eli manning and Odell
Beckham Jr. on the two outermost columns of the page. This shows just how important individual
players are to a sport organization and its popularity, especially with social media. The home page is

You would think the U.S. would be a little more advanced with sport communication through social
media because of our obsession with both, but the Juventus F.C. website s design was simple and
sleek. The all black look has only a few major stories and the team s latest win at the top. Navigating
the site is easy with subcategories at the top of the page, and when you scroll down not much is
redundant. A promotion to become a Juventus member sits just above the all of the club s successes
such a championship trophies and titles, making it hard to resist. There is also a brief break in the
home page to promote the team store where they have pictures of gear and jerseys. The team s
sponsors are subtly promoted, and it helps that they all coincide with the black and white look of the
team jersey and page altogether. Their latest news section is very organized, short and sweet, yet if
you would like to find more stories, you can simply click the more button which really helps keep the
page less busy. They also have a section dedicated to fans where social media posts show fans tickets,
Juventus artwork, and more with the team hashtag. Although there are many different parts to this

How Does Divorce Create Long Term Negative Effects For...
Divorce is one of many controversial subjects in family and human development research. What
inspired me to critically analyze the article Does Divorce Create Long Term Negative Effects for
Children? is the challenge it would be for me to put my bias aside considering I am from a divorced
home. After reading the article and analyzing it over and over, I can t help but think that the writer
answering YES to this controversial question overlooked many variables and over generalized his
findings and research. With Zinsmeister overgeneralizing his research, not considering enough
alternate explanations for long term negative effects divorce, and his lack of relevant information
needed to assess reliability and validity are why I find this article to be insightful but not accurate and
hope to show why.
In the introduction to the article, the authors David Gately and Andrew Schwebel best wrote Karl
Zinsmeister uses studies of children and divorce to argue against the contention made by many parents
that it is better to divorce than to rear children in a marriage with conflict. He maintains that children s
sense of stability and family structure supersedes parental needs. Throughout the article Zinsmeister
uses the headings Fear and Loathing of Divorce Among the Young , Short and Long Term effects of
Divorce on Children , and A Catalogue of Behavioral Changes as a platform to prove/explain his
opinions and back them by research.
Essentially Zinsmeister wrote one: that

The Teachings Of Amenemope Essay
The book of Proverbs and The Teachings of Amenemope have many parallels and similarities. To
some this may come as a shock, but it should not be alarming. These books are considered wisdom
literature. Wisdom is defined as knowledge put into practice; simply retaining knowledge is useless if
it is not put to good use. Wisdom itself is not exclusive to the Christian faith; rather it is available to
anyone who is willing to learn. There are different types of wisdom such as biblical wisdom and
worldly wisdom, but wisdom cannot be limited to a certain belief or view. Worldly wisdom is not
entirely bad, instead, it can be helpful to understand to better interact with the world; to put it simply,
worldly wisdom is an understanding of how the world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In chapter 7 of The Teachings of Amenemope it says, Stolen goods only spend the night, At dawn they
vanish , while in Proverbs 21:6 it says, A fortune made by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor and a
deadly snare . The quality that is being portrayed is integrity. One is supposed to treat others fairly and
make an honest living, without lying or cheating. Again the concepts mirror each other, but the
motivation varies. The Teachings of Amenemope teach integrity because it creates a better life,
especially when others are striving for it as well, but the Bible preaches integrity because it is right
and God honoring. This with integrity will be taken advantage of and will have to take the long road
to reach their goals sometimes, but their motivation that pushes them forward lies in God. All humans
are created in God s image, so no matter the individual s character they deserve respect and fair
treatment for that reason (Genesis

A Report On The Price Of The Dollar
Following the Brexit vote on the 23rd of June 2016, the pound fell to 31 year low against the dollar,
falling from $1.50 to $1.33 in a matter of hours. The sharp devaluation of the pound against the dollar
made AB InBev s all cash offer unattractive to SAB s shareholders, who were to be compensated in

Pain And Perception Of Pain
Pain is not only defined as a sensation or a physical awareness, but also entails perception. Moreover,
pain is an unpleasant and an uncomfortable emotion that is transferred to the brain by sensory neurons.
There are various kinds of pain and how one perceives them is varied as well. Certain parts of the
brain also play a key role in how one feels pain such as the parietal lobe, which is involved in
interpreting pain while the hypothalamus is responsible for the response to pain one has. Although
some believe pain is just a physical awareness and is in the body, pain is all in one s mind because the
perception of pain and the emotion that controls its intensity differs in individuals and when pain itself
is administered to the body, the brain determines the emotions one attaches to each painful experience.
The perception of pain and the emotions that control intensity differ in individuals. Since feeling pain
is somewhat adaptive, when one experiences it, he or she becomes aware of an injury and tries to
remove oneself from the source that caused the injury. For this reason, pain is considered neuropathic
or inflammatory in nature. Thus, when pain is the outcome from the damage caused to the neurons of
the peripheral and central nervous system, then that pain is neuropathic. However, if the pain signals
any kind of tissue damage, then the pain is inflammatory in nature. Due to various types of pain, the
interpretation of pain by neurons and the source of that pain

How Should One Face Death Be Controlled By Humans
According to Epictetus, how should one face death both one s own death
and the death of people close to you? Compare and contrast this attitude
with the attitude of another figure we have studied in the course (e.g., Hector,
Achilles, Antigone, Socrates). Do you accept either of these attitudes? Why
In his handbook, Epictetus asserts that the gods created a perfectly just universe. Humans must align
their beliefs with the wills of the gods and acquiesce to whatever happens in the world. In order to live
a life of equanimity, Epictetus believes that people must understand that life is a fragile and temporary
gift from the gods and that death must be recognized as inevitable. In the Iliad, Hector and Achilles
attitudes to death ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Epictetus affirms that people must trust the gods judgment in establishing a well and just universe.
People must understand that death, like the rest of the universe s events, is a deliberate element of the
gods world. Therefore, people should want [events] to happen as they do happen, and [their] life will
go well (Epictetus, 13). When people shape their perception of death in accordance with the gods
wills, they are able to maintain equanimity. On the other hand, Epictetus argues, If [people] are averse
to illness or death or poverty, [they] will meet misfortune. So [people must] detach [their] aversion
from everything not up to [them] (Epictetus, 12). People must not dwell on uncontrollable courses of
events, like death, because it places their wills in opposition to the will of the gods, resulting in
suffering. However, when people accept that death is an intentional aspect of the gods immaculate set
up of the universe, they bring their wills in agreement with the gods wills and may live with
composure.
In addition, Epictetus argues that people must remember that human life in the gods well and just
universe is a transitory gift from the gods, which justifies its preordained revocation death. In other
words, as long as life is given to humans by the gods, people must take care of it as something that is

Group Equivalence At The Start Of A Study
1. I will explain to the students that correlated groups designs are assuring group equivalence at the
start of a study and can be done by using correlated groups designs. These designs do not use free
random assignment but, in other words, provide equivalent groups at the start of the study and allow
other controls to be applied. An important reason for using correlated groups designs is that they are
generally more sensitive to the effects of the independent variable manipulations. I will then explain to
the students the types of correlated groups designs. First, there is the within subjects designs, which
involves participants being exposed to all experimental conditions. Ultimately, each participant serves
as his or her own control, because each participant is tested under each experimental condition.
Therefore, the scores in every condition are correlated with the scores in every other condition. The
critical comparison is the difference between correlated groups as they are related to the dependent
variable. For example, during the Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump election debate there was a
polling. The chairperson took a vote before the debate, to establish a baseline opinion of who will do
the best, and will ask the audience to vote again at the end. The team that gained the most votes
obviously managed to sway opinion in the same subjects much better, and therefore they can be
announced as the winner. Secondly, there is the matched subjects designs,

Importance of Physical Education
Fitness
Obesity is a very common problem faced, which if not taken care of in time, can lead to many lifestyle
diseases such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Engaging in physical activities help to burn
calories and lose fat. Regular exercising builds muscles, makes the immune system strong and
improves upon stamina. This increases the fitness levels and keeps various diseases and health
conditions in check.
It Builds Self Esteem
Students who are active in physical activities like basketball, volleyball, martial arts and running just
to name a few are more confident with themselves according to most social school studies. It s
probably because of the self discipline and dedication to excel in a sport that brings out the best in
students. In school, the physical education program introduces these sport activities to students
allowing them to make choices to which sport areas they want to get involved in.
Life Lessons
By participating in various sports, a student gets to learn so many things about life. A student wins
some games and loses some; this makes him understand that winning and losing are a part of life and
should be accepted with grace. When a student participates in team games, he learns that co operating
with others is very important if goals are to be achieved. Likewise, sports can teach so many life

Comparing The Osage Firebird And A Life Painting Animals
The stories The Osage Firebird by Sudipta Bardhan and A Life Painting Animals by Diana Childress
both tell about the life of two girls who overcame barriers to find success. Betty Marie Tallchief, from
the story The Osage Firebird, becomes a great and well known ballerina although she faces prejudice,
criticism, and teasing when she was young. She turned into a great and successful ballerina because
she overcame many obstacles. Rosa Bonheur, from the story A Life Painting Animals, becomes a great
artist and famous for her works of art although she also faced prejudice and had disagreements with
her father. She did not let hurdles slow her down or stop her from being successful. Both of the
women in these stories had to overcome prejudice to get where they wanted to be in their career.
Marie faced prejudice because of her race and where she came from, but did not let that stop her from
getting where she wanted to be. When she was in school she would get teased because of her Osage
heritage and her name. Rosa also suffered from prejudice because she was a girl and did not get to go
to school for art. Instead she got taught at home by her dad who was also an artist and taught her how
to draw although she was not able to go to school. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Importance Of Association For Mental Health
Association for Mental Health (now MIND) was formed to campaign for better provision for the
mentally disabled.
The National Assistance (NA) Act, 1946, implemented 1948, abolished the Poor Law/Public
Assistance and established the National Assistance Board (NAB), which took over its institutions and
responsibility for means tested benefits. However, all hospitals were absorbed into the National Health
Service, also established 1948. Older and disabled people were divided into the sick , who were placed
in hospitals (c. 90,000 people) and those needing care and attention (c. 42,000) who were placed in
residential homes, overwhelmingly former workhouses. The NAAct required local authorities, under
the control of the NAB, to provide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The NAB was responsible to the Minister of Health, but semi independent and required to work also
with the new Ministry of National Insurance, whose benefits it supplemented. The
National Assistance Act was piloted through the Commons jointly by the Minister of Health,
Aneurin Bevan and the Minister of National Insurance, Jim Griffiths. The boundary between health
care and social care was far from clear and could not easily be for older and disabled people. In 1966
the NAB was abolished and replaced by the Supplementary Benefits
Commission. In 1968 this was absorbed into a new Department of Health and Social Security which
replaced the Ministries of Health and National Insurance, where it remained until 1988, when a
separate Department of Health was established. Responsibility for local government moved
permanently from the Ministry of Health to a separate in department in 1951, further complicating the
relationship between health and social care.
Few new Homes or hospitals were constructed until the late 1950s due to financial constraints.
Surveys in the 1960s found deplorable conditions in both hospitals and Homes for older and disabled
people.
There was a trend from the 1950s towards the replacement of in patient with out patient treatment for
the mentally disabled, influenced by the increasing awareness of psychiatrists of the harmful effects of
long term institutional care for some people, and by the costs of institutions. In 1953 half of

Horace Walpole s Castle Of Otranto
In the art of storytelling, there is no greater important detail than the setting. The environment of a
story is the glue that grounds the characters together, the fertile valley in which the plot is cultivated
and grown, and the often the core influence that forwards the narrative. The classic Gothic literature
works of Horace Walpole s Castle of Otranto as well as Anna and John Aikin s Sir Bertrand both are
stories that have not only their plots bound and driven by their settings, but have their dark and
horrifying moods created by the environment as well (Walpole 586)(Aikin and Aikin 589). In these
two stories, and most other forms of literature, the environment is the essential driving force that both
creates the tones of the stories and advances the plot by forcing the reader into an environment they
are unfamiliar with.
One of the most common settings in Gothic literature, which also can drive forward the plot, is an old
medieval castle. Horace Walpole s Castle of Otranto is not an exception to this trend. Almost
immediately after Manfred tries to force Isabella to marry him, she tries to escape from the castle but
can not since the building is so well fortified. If she had been inside of just a large house instead, then
it would have been easier to escape. Since she could not find normal way out of the castle, she was
forced to locate another way out. If she had escaped earlier then she would not have found the secret
tunnels that she used to escape, therefore

Toni Morrison s The Bluest Eye-The Two Lives Of Mrs....
Seeing Double: The Two Lives of Mrs. Breedlove Growing up, the one thing Pauline Breedlove really
desired was a nickname, but instead, as an adult, she ends with a pet name . Toni Morrison s novel The
Bluest Eye follows young Pecola Breedlove through her dismal life as she is repeatedly worn down by
the pressures from both the dominant white society and the African American community she is a part
of. Pecola is neglected or ignored by almost everyone she encounters, including her own mother. Mrs.

Breedlove s fundamental misinterpretation of her role in white society is representative of every
African American in the novel and how they fail to reality test . Similar to how Mrs. Breedlove cannot
meaningfully distinguish between her two worlds, Cholly also fails due to his traumatizing childhood
and Pecola even has a conversation with an imaginary figure at the end, showing her confusion of
internal and external reality. The African American characters exhibit a misunderstanding of their
reality, incapable of comprehending their roles in their community versus the oppressive white one
that surrounds them. Although it might seem like there are some seemingly unaffected African
American characters, such as the narrator Claudia, they also demonstrate abnormal behavior. Claudia,
for example, has an irrational hatred of things, such as the Fishers daughter and dolls, because she
cannot separate their external existence from her internal opinions. Through closely analyzing Mrs.
Breedlove s portrayal as an animal while in white society, one can recognize how every African
American character in the novel is like Mrs. Breedlove in that they share an inability to fully
understand how their role in white society is different from their

Negative Effects Of Hurricane Harvey
Hand in Hand: The effects of globalization explored Hurricane Harvey
On August 26th, 2017, Hurricane Harvey crashed into Texas and devastated Houston and the
surrounding area. Harvey battered cities along the Gulf of Mexico, hitting primarily low income
communities, and leaving 52 inches of rainfall, destroying about 22,000 homes, and displacing
thousands in its wake. The image discussed in this essay depicts a Red Cross relief center in Houston
providing shelter for residents unable to evacuate. The aforementioned image is of a domestic event,
but the people, objects, and context demonstrate the complex social processes of globalization. Details
in this image of Hurricane Harvey illustrate the harmful effect of the globalizing market in leading
developed nations to be more focused on short term economic gain rather than long term
environmental protection.
American culture was built on the idea of progress. Our society has focused on creating new
technology, advancing the current systems, and these forces thrust the world towards globality, a
world where countries are increasingly interconnected. To be clear, globalization isn t a new
phenomenon, but the technological advances of the postmodern era accelerated the path to globality, a
world in which our current ideas of national borders are significantly different, much more fluid.
Economics is just one facet of globalization, but unmistakable in the chosen image. Economic
globalization refers to the complex system that our

Ba, Ti O Atoms Has Been Considerably Changed. The Three
Ba, Ti O atoms has been considerably changed. The three dimensional view of enlarged portion of Ba
O and Ti O bonds for three different Sr doping levels is given in figure 2.32. The increasing
incorporation of Sr in the crystal structure of BaTiO3 increases the volume of the electron density
distribution around Ba atom. The reduction in the bond lengths of Ba O and Ti O has also been clearly
visualized from this figure.
To analyze the nature of bonding qualitatively, 2D electron density contour maps have been
constructed for the Sr doped samples for three different crystallographic planes, with contour interval
of 0.04 e/Å3. Figure 2.33(a) shows the 3D unit cell of BST with (100) plane shaded and (b), (c) (d)

The density of the contour lines along the Ti O bonding region increases with the increasing doping
levels of Sr. The overlapping of contour lines along Ti O bond exhibits the covalent nature of bonding
which is due to the result of hybridization between the O 2p and Ti 3d orbitals. When the smaller Sr
ion is substituted at the lattice site of larger Ba, the volume of the unit cell become smaller and Ti ions
can be in good touch with all the O ions which increases the covalent nature of Ti O bond.
The quantitative analysis of chemical bonding between the constituent atoms has been carried out by
drawing the 1D electron density line profiles for Ba O and Ti O bond. Figure 2.36 shows the 1D
electron density line profiles for Ba O bond for three different Sr concentrations. Figure 2.37 shows
the 1D electron density line profiles for Ti O bond for three different Sr concentrations.
The bond lengths and mid bond electron density values for Ba O and Ti O bonds of Ba1 xSrxTiO3
(x=0.2, 0.4 0.6) are given in table 2.15. The value of mid bond electron density along Ba O bond
decreases with respect to Sr incorporation. The values of electron density show the increase in ionic
nature of the prepared samples due to Sr doping. Along the Ti O bond, the mid bond density values
show increasing trend with the addition of Sr content which confirms the decrement in ionic nature

Copyright Laws And Its Impact On Intellectual Property...
Introduction Copyright laws were established to provide authors with rights over their creations and to
prevent unauthorized use and distribution of these creations by others. Although the law grants
ownership to one party, usually the author of the work, there is a doctrine for granting ownership of
work made for hire to educational institutions (Crews, 2006). This doctrine supports that if the
employee developed the work under the parameters of their scope of employment or through the use
of resources provided by the employer, then the employer owns the rights to the work (Crews, 2006).
In an effort to clarify the mandates of copyright law and improve understanding of intellectual
property ownership, educational institutions have developed their own policies addressing intellectual
property ownership. The policies vary by institution, but share the same purpose of providing
guidelines and conditions for ownership of creations by the educational institution s faculty. The
University of Maryland in College Park (UMCP) promotes the development of educational materials
by faculty to provide and deliver the best education to its students. In an effort to address the law of
copyright and clarify intellectual property ownership, as well as patents and trademarks, UMCP has
developed an extensive intellectual property policy. This paper will review the policy in reference to
the law as it applies to the development of works by faculty for use in distance education programs.

The Negative Effects Of Technology And Its Effects On The...
With all of the technological advances that have been made over the last decade, it is amazing that a
person ever leaves their home. While technology allegedly makes our lives better, in reality,
technology only makes our lives more difficult. In doing so it changes the way things used to be done,
it causes a huge lack of communication and lastly, technology is great, until it breaks.
Technology has changed the way that the world does many things. Looking back one of the things that
I miss the most was getting birthday calls or cards. Now all my birthday wishes come on a Facebook
wall. These wishes come from all over the world but most of them are from people I never talk to.
How do they remember my birthday? Is it because I am important to them. Nope! It is because
Facebook has an app that tells them it is my birthday and they feel obligated to wish me a happy
birthday because we are friends on Facebook. While it makes me feel special to know that 683 people
wished me happy birthday on my special day. How many of them would know who I was if I ran into
them at the store? Not many of them would and while it might make us feel good for the moment, it is
not reality. It is technology. It has even changed how we get mail. It used to be that we would have to
wait days for a letter to come. Now we have email and can receive a letter from anywhere in the world

A Study By Brigham And Women s Hospital
A 2010 study by Brigham and Women s Hospital in Boston found that one in five teens suffer from a
hearing impairment, which is an increase of 33% from 1994 (Dignan). Earbuds and headphones have
contributed to these numbers since using these at loud volumes can damage ears over time. Earbuds
and headphones have caused loss of hearing, as a result, there should be a restriction on the highest
volume they can go.
To put this into perspective, hearing is an important function of the body, taking many components to
transfer the sound throughout the ear. There are three parts of an ear, the outer, middle, and inner ear.
The sound starts in the outer ear where it is heard, then transmitted through the auditory system
toward the eardrum. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many international health organizations say that this is the leading disability throughout the world and
much of it can be prevented, since many of the causes can be fixed by changing the person s approach
to it. For example, if someone is attending a concert, it would be a good idea to get earplugs according
to Susan Kaplan, an audiologist with the UC Davis health system (Meyer). However, not many people
do this and as a result, have substantial hearing loss. A symptom of hearing loss, tinnitus, is being seen

tinnitus, objective or subjective. Subjective is usually connected with hearing loss, since it means only
the person experiencing the problem can hear the sounds. There are many ways to test people to see if
they have tinnitus or some kind of hearing loss. A few ways are a physical examination of the person s

Cognitive behavioural theory (CBT) is a kind of psychotherapeutic treatment that enables patients to
comprehend the thoughts and feelings that control their behaviours. Cognitive behavioural therapy is
more frequently used to treat an extensive range of disorders such as depression and anxiety.
Cognitive behavioural therapy is widely short term and concentrates on enabling clients to deal with
very particular problems. Often six weeks to six months sessions of course depending upon the
problem it is pacifically goal directed and places great weight upon self help as a long term coping
tool that the client can take away with them and successfully use. Cognitive behavioural therapy
believes that clients can learn the wrong ways of developing and making sense of information during
their cognitive development. This can often lead to distortions in the way they identify reality, it s the
job of the therapist to enable them to work this out. According to Dryden, 2007, p.299 Cognitive
therapy first came to the attention of British psychologists and psychiatrists through the pioneering
work of the British researchers who sought to evaluate the efficacy of Beck s treatment for depression.
Cognitive behavioural theory can be used on a one to one basis or in a group setting. It is said that in
order for cognitive behavioural therapy to be effective, the client

White Man s Muscles Essay
The White Man s Muscles
In today s society, the naked white male body is found everywhere. It can be seen in print ads,
including clothing catalogues, TV commercials, and especially in movies, yet the prevalence of the
naked white male body is something that has only been embraced since the 1980s. Prior to the 1980s,
half naked white males were hardly ever seen in popular film because of the negative effects it would
have on male self esteem and masculinity.
People in our generation remember watching films such as Rocky, Rambo, and The Terminator, which
showed incredibly built and tan white males in some type of extreme action role. However, people

The obvious differences between these men and other men off the street plays into the ideals of
masculinity. Only toned bodies, bodies that simulate the ideals of perfection can truly avoid any of the
horrors that are associated with coming into contact with femininity and non whiteness. Men like to
see these toned men as opposed to regular guys because they do not need to fear their shortcomings.
Only few people can live up to the idea of the perfect man and so seeing them on film is a form of
escapism. If real men were depicted, all of their fears associated with being normal would be realized.
The use of bodybuilders in film instead of standard males was a mask to cover up the inadequacies of
white men. Using these perfect beings has negative effects even today but it is constantly being
reinforced in our society. The ideal of the perfect man being as muscular as Arnold Schwarzenegger or
Sylvester Stallone has fallen by the wayside however a new ideal of perfection has risen to take its
place.
White males are now commonly seen shirtless in films and in some instances completely naked. This
is a result of a major change in the ideas about what society thinks is acceptable. Bodybuilders are no
longer considered the best representation for masculinity because of the

Cultural Dimensions, Business Practices And Business...
Abstract
This paper serves a purpose of examining the Hofstede s Cultural Dimensions and using such
measurement to compare the cultural values of Canada and the United States. It will look deeper into
the cultural dimensions, business practices and business etiquette. This paper will also provide
information of both countries and where they stand on the dimensions and the reason why. Hofstede
decided that when two people interact with each other within an organization, culture characterizes
their behavior and attitude towards others. Psychology Hofstede had published his cultural dimension
s model at the end of the 1970s. In more than fifty countries Hofstede studied the people that worked
for IBM. The dimensions collectively portray the impact of the culture in the society on the values of
the members of the society. The description of the relationship between the values and the behavior

Review and Conceptual Framework in Journal of Economics, Finance Administrative Science, Geert
Hofstede is the most well known name in the field of cross cultural psychology and business (L.
Manrai A. Manrai, 2011). By looking at the dimensions of Canada and the United States, the
dimension scores of the two countries differed very much. Geert Hofstede s first four dimensions rose

What if the IRS, the EPA, the Bureau of Indian Affairs were all shut down because of their past abuses

Whatever the reason for the triple standard between punishing people crime, punishing corporate
crime, and punishing government crime, we should start by asking if the U.S. government really cares
about non violent crime. Even though we have very strict regulations on everything from money
laundering to banking transparency, banks like Standard Chartered and Barclays have took hits for
corporate crimes. Bribery allegations, fines and settlements have hurt businesses such as Siemens,

We need to understand that when company officials, or government officials achieve power over

  • 2. Comparing Picasso s Guernic The Labyrinth Of Narrative And Many reviews and analysis reference psychoanalytic theory as a base to establish definitive meaning of why certain things occur and how they function. Ruthe Stein of San Francisco Gate makes brief yet notable comparisons of Del Toro s film to Picasso s Guernica. Picasso s famous painting named after the city of Guernica that was destroyed in 1937 by Francisco Franco, was a sacred town of the Basques . (Russell 1). Frank Russell s notes in his book Picasso s Guernica: The Labyrinth of Narrative and Vision , how the Basques lived in the mountains and they were adept at guerilla tactics (1). Similar, to the rebellions in Del Toro s Labyrinth that lived within the mountains and forest. Notably, the initial credits of the film stated that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rapid Diagnostic Tests In Rwanda Case Study False‑negative malaria rapid diagnostic tests in Rwanda: impact of Plasmodium falciparum isolates lacking hrp2 and declining malaria transmission Combined malaria histidine rich protein 2 (HRP2)/ Plasmodium lactate dehydrogenase (pLDH) rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) are often used to determine whether persons with fever should be treated with anti malarials. The observation study carried out in Rwanda on 9226 from April 2014 April 2015 to compare the sensitivity of RDTs based on HRP2 and the Plasmodium lactate dehydrogenase (pLDH) in diagnosing malaria using microscopy and molecular test(PCR) to see if there is association between the deletions of the histidinerich central repeat region of the hrp2 gene (exon 2) and false negative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The study of clinical observation was conducted to associate a defiency in antibody responses to plasmodium falciparum antigens; previous authors mainly studied on the antibody response to 0.5% of P. falciparum proteins. To find a wide scope of subjects and minimize bias of HIV effect on antibody responses to malaria a comparison study on antibody profiles of people with HIV and non HIV people adults in Rwanda with symptomatic malaria using a microarray containing 824P protein of falciparum. Using flow cytometry analysis of B and T cell subsets the researchers again investigated the cellular aspect of antibody response in the two groups. The breath and magnitude of HIV individuals response was reduced compared to HIV co infected generated antibodies with large number of P.falciparum antigens as well as potential vaccine candidates. It has observed that HIV malaria co infection was also associated with a higher percentage of atypical memory B cells (MBC) (CD19+CD10 CD21 CD27 ) compared to malaria infection alone. The variability in the breadth of P. falciparum specific antibody responses was only partially explained among HIV+ individuals the CD4+ T cell count and HIV viral load. In summary the results showed that HIV malaria co infection is associated with an expansion of atypical MBCs and a diminished antibody response to a diverse array of P. falciparum antigens, thus offering mechanistic insight into the higher risk ... • 5. Tetrachlorodobenzo-P-Dioxidation Lab Report Photodegradation of dioxins appears to be the only chemical reaction that leads to the elimination of dioxins in the environment. Photochemical dechlorination and photooxidation in the presence of hydroxyl radicals, ozone and PAN (peroxy acetyl nitrate) are two possible types of reactions. These reactions, their velocities, their products are still poorly characterized. However, in general, it appears that the photodegradation rates of dioxins increase when the number of chlorine atoms in the molecule decreases, and that reaction with hydroxyl radicals is the dominant photooxidation mechanism in the atmosphere. Also, photolysis is faster in the gaseous phase than on particles or in water; The presence of organic compounds in water or in particles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other studies have shown that out of a hundred microbial lines possessing the ability to degrade persistent pesticides, only 5 of them possessed a certain capacity to biodegrade 2,3,7,8 tetrachlorodibenzo p dioxin . Some mushrooms have also demonstrated this ability in the laboratory. However, metabolic rates remain low (2.23% after 30 days, 3.96% after 60 days). This capacity of the fungi is attributed to an extracellular enzyme activity associated with the natural degradation of lignin. To determine the persistence of 2,3,7,8 tetrachlorodibenzo p dioxin, silty and sandy soils were artificially enriched with 2,3,7,8 tetrachlorodibenzo p dioxin at different concentrations. Measurements were made after incubation at 28 ° C for 20, 40, 80, 160 and 350 days. After 350 days, 56% of 2,3,7,8 tetrachlorodibenzop dioxin was still present in the silty soils and 63% in the sandy soils, a slight degradation was observed in both soils. However, other dioxin congeners are more resistant to biodegradation. Thus, laboratory experiments on sandy loam soils artificially enriched with 1,2,3,7,8 pentachlorodibenzo p dioxin and octachlorodibenzo p dioxin have shown that at pH 8.1 these two substances were still present after 15 months of ... • 6. The Boundary Of The Yakama Nation Reservation Problems The boundary of the Yakama Nation Reservation is considered home to different culturally diverse populations. Parenting skills and teaching can vary dramatically from each of those unique households. The diverse populations come with varying levels of what is considered appropriate child rearing practices. Child abuse intakes are increasing due to families from Mexico coming here to the US and the standards are different (Ruiz, 2015). Pilar Ruiz is a Social Worker at Children s Administration assigned to the Child Protective Services. Families migrate to the area and they carry different perspectives on parenting and may not understand the expectations of Washington State and Child Abuse Laws. It is not only migrant families that need additional support. Families that have been here for many years have traditional practices that may cross the line when it comes to child abuse and neglect. These families that are located in this area need the additional support of increasing family bonds, healthy parenting, life skills, bonding, and reducing violence and substance abuse. Macro Personal Reality Establishing positive parenting skills within the community will assist the parents in gaining new alternatives to their current practices. Often we get the same families that are repeat offenders or they never really learn their ways of parenting are not acceptable (Ruiz, 2015). If you are starting to get tired pull off to the side of the road or highway you are on is way better than potentially taking your life and others away. Take a thirty to forty minute break. One thought that I immediately had when visiting the site, though, is that if I did not google it I may not have found it. Because there are other professional sport teams called the giants I wasn t sure what website to type in, so I googled it and it actually came up after their twitter page and after the Google in the news section. The layout of the home page was very pleasing to the eye. I loved that they had a large picture of Eli manning and Odell Beckham Jr. on the two outermost columns of the page. This shows just how important individual players are to a sport organization and its popularity, especially with social media. The home page is categorized by videos, photos, news ... Navigating the site is easy with subcategories at the top of the page, and when you scroll down not much is redundant. A promotion to become a Juventus member sits just above the all of the club s successes such a championship trophies and titles, making it hard to resist. There is also a brief break in the home page to promote the team store where they have pictures of gear and jerseys. The team s sponsors are subtly promoted, and it helps that they all coincide with the black and white look of the team jersey and page altogether. Their latest news section is very organized, short and sweet, yet if you would like to find more stories, you can simply click the more button which really helps keep the page less busy. They also have a section dedicated to fans where social media posts show fans tickets, Juventus artwork, and more with the team hashtag. • 9. How Does Divorce Create Long Term Negative Effects For... Divorce is one of many controversial subjects in family and human development research. What inspired me to critically analyze the article Does Divorce Create Long Term Negative Effects for Children? is the challenge it would be for me to put my bias aside considering I am from a divorced home. After reading the article and analyzing it over and over, I can t help but think that the writer answering YES to this controversial question overlooked many variables and over generalized his findings and research. With Zinsmeister overgeneralizing his research, not considering enough alternate explanations for long term negative effects divorce, and his lack of relevant information needed to assess reliability and validity are why I find this article to be insightful but not accurate and hope to show why. In the introduction to the article, the authors David Gately and Andrew Schwebel best wrote Karl Zinsmeister uses studies of children and divorce to argue against the contention made by many parents that it is better to divorce than to rear children in a marriage with conflict. He maintains that children s sense of stability and family structure supersedes parental needs. Throughout the article Zinsmeister uses the headings Fear and Loathing of Divorce Among the Young , Short and Long Term effects of Divorce on Children , and A Catalogue of Behavioral Changes as a platform to prove/explain his opinions and back them by research. • 10. The Teachings Of Amenemope Essay The book of Proverbs and The Teachings of Amenemope have many parallels and similarities. To some this may come as a shock, but it should not be alarming. These books are considered wisdom literature. Wisdom is defined as knowledge put into practice; simply retaining knowledge is useless if it is not put to good use. Wisdom itself is not exclusive to the Christian faith; rather it is available to anyone who is willing to learn. There are different types of wisdom such as biblical wisdom and worldly wisdom, but wisdom cannot be limited to a certain belief or view. Worldly wisdom is not entirely bad, instead, it can be helpful to understand to better interact with the world; to put it simply, worldly wisdom is an understanding of how the world ... The quality that is being portrayed is integrity. One is supposed to treat others fairly and make an honest living, without lying or cheating. Again the concepts mirror each other, but the motivation varies. The Teachings of Amenemope teach integrity because it creates a better life, especially when others are striving for it as well, but the Bible preaches integrity because it is right and God honoring. This with integrity will be taken advantage of and will have to take the long road to reach their goals sometimes, but their motivation that pushes them forward lies in God. • 15. Pain And Perception Of Pain Pain is not only defined as a sensation or a physical awareness, but also entails perception. Moreover, pain is an unpleasant and an uncomfortable emotion that is transferred to the brain by sensory neurons. There are various kinds of pain and how one perceives them is varied as well. Certain parts of the brain also play a key role in how one feels pain such as the parietal lobe, which is involved in interpreting pain while the hypothalamus is responsible for the response to pain one has. Although some believe pain is just a physical awareness and is in the body, pain is all in one s mind because the perception of pain and the emotion that controls its intensity differs in individuals and when pain itself is administered to the body, the brain determines the emotions one attaches to each painful experience. The perception of pain and the emotions that control intensity differ in individuals. Since feeling pain is somewhat adaptive, when one experiences it, he or she becomes aware of an injury and tries to remove oneself from the source that caused the injury. For this reason, pain is considered neuropathic or inflammatory in nature. Thus, when pain is the outcome from the damage caused to the neurons of the peripheral and central nervous system, then that pain is neuropathic. However, if the pain signals any kind of tissue damage, then the pain is inflammatory in nature. Due to various types of pain, the interpretation of pain by neurons and the source of that pain ... • 18. How Should One Face Death Be Controlled By Humans According to Epictetus, how should one face death both one s own death and the death of people close to you? Compare and contrast this attitude with the attitude of another figure we have studied in the course (e.g., Hector, Achilles, Antigone, Socrates). Do you accept either of these attitudes? Why In his handbook, Epictetus asserts that the gods created a perfectly just universe. Humans must align their beliefs with the wills of the gods and acquiesce to whatever happens in the world. In order to live a life of equanimity, Epictetus believes that people must understand that life is a fragile and temporary gift from the gods and that death must be recognized as inevitable. People must understand that death, like the rest of the universe s events, is a deliberate element of the gods world. Therefore, people should want [events] to happen as they do happen, and [their] life will go well (Epictetus, 13). When people shape their perception of death in accordance with the gods wills, they are able to maintain equanimity. On the other hand, Epictetus argues, If [people] are averse to illness or death or poverty, [they] will meet misfortune. So [people must] detach [their] aversion from everything not up to [them] (Epictetus, 12). People must not dwell on uncontrollable courses of events, like death, because it places their wills in opposition to the will of the gods, resulting in suffering. However, when people accept that death is an intentional aspect of the gods immaculate set up of the universe, they bring their wills in agreement with the gods wills and may live with composure. In addition, Epictetus argues that people must remember that human life in the gods well and just universe is a transitory gift from the gods, which justifies its preordained revocation death. • 19. Group Equivalence At The Start Of A Study 1. I will explain to the students that correlated groups designs are assuring group equivalence at the start of a study and can be done by using correlated groups designs. These designs do not use free random assignment but, in other words, provide equivalent groups at the start of the study and allow other controls to be applied. An important reason for using correlated groups designs is that they are generally more sensitive to the effects of the independent variable manipulations. I will then explain to the students the types of correlated groups designs. First, there is the within subjects designs, which involves participants being exposed to all experimental conditions. Ultimately, each participant serves as his or her own control, because each participant is tested under each experimental condition. Therefore, the scores in every condition are correlated with the scores in every other condition. The critical comparison is the difference between correlated groups as they are related to the dependent variable. For example, during the Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump election debate there was a polling. The chairperson took a vote before the debate, to establish a baseline opinion of who will do the best, and will ask the audience to vote again at the end. The team that gained the most votes obviously managed to sway opinion in the same subjects much better, and therefore they can be announced as the winner. The environment of a story is the glue that grounds the characters together, the fertile valley in which the plot is cultivated and grown, and the often the core influence that forwards the narrative. The classic Gothic literature works of Horace Walpole s Castle of Otranto as well as Anna and John Aikin s Sir Bertrand both are stories that have not only their plots bound and driven by their settings, but have their dark and horrifying moods created by the environment as well (Walpole 586)(Aikin and Aikin 589). In these two stories, and most other forms of literature, the environment is the essential driving force that both creates the tones of the stories and advances the plot by forcing the reader into an environment they are unfamiliar with. One of the most common settings in Gothic literature, which also can drive forward the plot, is an old medieval castle. Horace Walpole s Castle of Otranto is not an exception to this trend. Almost immediately after Manfred tries to force Isabella to marry him, she tries to escape from the castle but can not since the building is so well fortified. The bond lengths and mid bond electron density values for Ba O and Ti O bonds of Ba1 xSrxTiO3 (x=0.2, 0.4 0.6) are given in table 2.15. The value of mid bond electron density along Ba O bond decreases with respect to Sr incorporation. The values of electron density show the increase in ionic nature of the prepared samples due to Sr doping. Along the Ti O bond, the mid bond density values show increasing trend with the addition of Sr content which confirms the decrement in ionic nature ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Copyright Laws And Its Impact On Intellectual Property... Introduction Copyright laws were established to provide authors with rights over their creations and to prevent unauthorized use and distribution of these creations by others. Although the law grants ownership to one party, usually the author of the work, there is a doctrine for granting ownership of work made for hire to educational institutions (Crews, 2006). This doctrine supports that if the employee developed the work under the parameters of their scope of employment or through the use of resources provided by the employer, then the employer owns the rights to the work (Crews, 2006). In an effort to clarify the mandates of copyright law and improve understanding of intellectual property ownership, educational institutions have developed their own policies addressing intellectual property ownership. The policies vary by institution, but share the same purpose of providing guidelines and conditions for ownership of creations by the educational institution s faculty. The University of Maryland in College Park (UMCP) promotes the development of educational materials by faculty to provide and deliver the best education to its students. In an effort to address the law of copyright and clarify intellectual property ownership, as well as patents and trademarks, UMCP has developed an extensive intellectual property policy. This paper will review the policy in reference to the law as it applies to the development of works by faculty for use in distance education programs. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. The Negative Effects Of Technology And Its Effects On The... With all of the technological advances that have been made over the last decade, it is amazing that a person ever leaves their home. While technology allegedly makes our lives better, in reality, technology only makes our lives more difficult. In doing so it changes the way things used to be done, it causes a huge lack of communication and lastly, technology is great, until it breaks. Technology has changed the way that the world does many things. Looking back one of the things that I miss the most was getting birthday calls or cards. Now all my birthday wishes come on a Facebook wall. These wishes come from all over the world but most of them are from people I never talk to. How do they remember my birthday? Is it because I am important to them. Nope! It is because Facebook has an app that tells them it is my birthday and they feel obligated to wish me a happy birthday because we are friends on Facebook. While it makes me feel special to know that 683 people wished me happy birthday on my special day. How many of them would know who I was if I ran into them at the store? Not many of them would and while it might make us feel good for the moment, it is not reality. It is technology. It has even changed how we get mail. It used to be that we would have to wait days for a letter to come. Now we have email and can receive a letter from anywhere in the world in a matter of seconds. While this is a wonderful thing it still does not replace the feeling one gets when they go to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. A Study By Brigham And Women s Hospital A 2010 study by Brigham and Women s Hospital in Boston found that one in five teens suffer from a hearing impairment, which is an increase of 33% from 1994 (Dignan). Earbuds and headphones have contributed to these numbers since using these at loud volumes can damage ears over time. Earbuds and headphones have caused loss of hearing, as a result, there should be a restriction on the highest volume they can go. To put this into perspective, hearing is an important function of the body, taking many components to transfer the sound throughout the ear. There are three parts of an ear, the outer, middle, and inner ear. The sound starts in the outer ear where it is heard, then transmitted through the auditory system toward the eardrum. The ... Many international health organizations say that this is the leading disability throughout the world and much of it can be prevented, since many of the causes can be fixed by changing the person s approach to it. For example, if someone is attending a concert, it would be a good idea to get earplugs according to Susan Kaplan, an audiologist with the UC Davis health system (Meyer). However, not many people do this and as a result, have substantial hearing loss. A symptom of hearing loss, tinnitus, is being seen in teenagers ever increasingly suggests a study done in Brazil ( Earbuds Threaten Hearing ). Tinnitus is ear noise like hissing, buzzing, roaring, beating, pulsing, chirping, ringing, whistling, clicking, or different noises in one or both ears or in the head, with no external cause. There are two types of tinnitus, objective or subjective. Subjective is usually connected with hearing loss, since it means only the person experiencing the problem can hear the sounds. There are many ways to test people to see if they have tinnitus or some kind of hearing loss. A few ways are a physical examination of the person s head and neck, The Rinne and Weber tests, magnetic resonance angiography or venography, or a blood count ( Tinnitus ). I will also identify the key differences between the above theories. I shall also describe how counselling theory underpins the use of counselling skills in practise. I will then end with my conclusion. 1.1 Key elements of psychodynamic theory Dr Sigmud Freud (1856 1939), is the founder of the psychodynamic approach. Dr Sigmud Freud believed that childhood experiences and unconscious thoughts had an effect on people s behaviour. Cognitive behavioural theory (CBT) is a kind of psychotherapeutic treatment that enables patients to comprehend the thoughts and feelings that control their behaviours. Cognitive behavioural therapy is more frequently used to treat an extensive range of disorders such as depression and anxiety. Cognitive behavioural therapy is widely short term and concentrates on enabling clients to deal with very particular problems. Often six weeks to six months sessions of course depending upon the problem it is pacifically goal directed and places great weight upon self help as a long term coping tool that the client can take away with them and successfully use. Cognitive behavioural therapy believes that clients can learn the wrong ways of developing and making sense of information during their cognitive development. This can often lead to distortions in the way they identify reality, it s the job of the therapist to enable them to work this out. According to Dryden, 2007, p.299 Cognitive therapy first came to the attention of British psychologists and psychiatrists through the pioneering work of the British researchers who sought to evaluate the efficacy of Beck s treatment for depression. Cognitive behavioural theory can be used on a one to one basis or in a group setting. It is said that in order for cognitive behavioural therapy to be effective, the client ... It can be seen in print ads, including clothing catalogues, TV commercials, and especially in movies, yet the prevalence of the naked white male body is something that has only been embraced since the 1980s. Prior to the 1980s, half naked white males were hardly ever seen in popular film because of the negative effects it would have on male self esteem and masculinity. People in our generation remember watching films such as Rocky, Rambo, and The Terminator, which showed incredibly built and tan white males in some type of extreme action role. The obvious differences between these men and other men off the street plays into the ideals of masculinity. Only toned bodies, bodies that simulate the ideals of perfection can truly avoid any of the horrors that are associated with coming into contact with femininity and non whiteness. Men like to see these toned men as opposed to regular guys because they do not need to fear their shortcomings. Only few people can live up to the idea of the perfect man and so seeing them on film is a form of escapism. If real men were depicted, all of their fears associated with being normal would be realized. The use of bodybuilders in film instead of standard males was a mask to cover up the inadequacies of white men. Using these perfect beings has negative effects even today but it is constantly being reinforced in our society. The ideal of the perfect man being as muscular as Arnold Schwarzenegger or Sylvester Stallone has fallen by the wayside however a new ideal of perfection has risen to take its place. White males are now commonly seen shirtless in films and in some instances completely naked. This is a result of a major change in the ideas about what society thinks is acceptable. Even though we have very strict regulations on everything from money laundering to banking transparency, banks like Standard Chartered and Barclays have took hits for corporate crimes. Bribery allegations, fines and settlements have hurt businesses such as Siemens, KBR, and Alcatel Lucent.
