Civilian Life vs. Military Life Essay
Being in the Army has huge differences compared to being in the civilian life. There are many

Rondell Data Corporation Study Question Analysis
Issues and Discussion Questions
1.What are the goals and subunit orientations of the different functions in Rondell?
The five principal functions in Rondell that must work together to produce new products are
production, sales, research, engineering services (part of engineering), and the control department
(containing accounting, purchasing, and materials control). Each function contributes something
unique and has adistinct subunit orientation.a. Production minimizes manufacturing costs. The goal is
to obtain products from the engineering designdepartment for easy and inexpensive manufacturing.
The manager in charge of production, Dave Schwab,is concerned about protecting his turf, and resists
attempts by other departments to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
b. Heterogeneous goals and priorities. Each function s different goal and subunit orientation causes it
toview problems differently. Subunits have become competitive as the attempts of one to achieve
goalsthwart the attempts of another.c. Bureaucratic factors. Rondell s structure has evolved historically
and status inconsistencies havedeveloped among different groups and managers between the heads of
R D and engineering. Althoughthe head of R D, Doc Reeves, formally reports to Frank Forbus, the
director of engineering, informally Reeves has more status and power. The manufacturing manager is
concerned about his lack of a degree, which he believes lowers his status, so he deliberately causes
problems for other managers toincrease his power and status.d. Incompatible performance criteria.
Each function is evaluated according to its goals, so when slowengineering design raises
manufacturing costs or results in lost customers or penalty clauses in customer contracts, functions
come into conflict.e. Competition for scarce resources. Some functions, such as R D, can command
whatever resourcesthey want. Engineering services is running very lean, its engineers stretched thin,
and no resources for aneffective preproduction unit. Given that profits have fallen, competition for
resources might increase, which will worsen the

High Stakes High School Case Study
Introduction
According to the case study (Appendix A), High Stakes High School (HSHS) is a low income,
underperforming urban high school in Bronx, New York. School enrollment consists of 79% Black
and 21% Latino students. Of the student body, 91% qualify for a free or reduced fee lunch, and 13%
qualify as English Language Learners (ELLs). Over the last decade, school performance has waned.
The performance has coincided with troubling school level trends, such as increased absenteeism and
suspensions, as well as gang activity and violence. Trying to align with the instability at the district
level, the school has had six different principals.
Action Plan
During the months of July and August, I established a task force team, involving all stakeholders, in
our school reform and prepared a 3 year action plan to turn around our school. As the principal of
High Stakes High School, my team and I shared the action plan report, based on the school data and
our research in education reforms, with the superintendent. Subsequently, the team shared the findings
at the first faculty conference, at the Parent Teacher Association meeting in September, and with our
students during the Welcome Back to School orientation session. The report identifies the three most
important steps to promoting a positive school culture and planning change. In alignment with

Belgian Imperialism
Imperialism helped the Belgians discriminate, segregate, brutally torture, and even kill the Congolese
in genocidal proportions worse than the Holocaust, for economic benefit. Imperialism is what let the
Belgians easily seized all control of the Congolese supply of ivory, rubber, and minerals for economic
power and benefit. Because the Congolese did not want to be controlled the Belgians inflicted brutal
control over the people, then after that they started killing them in inhumane ways. The Congolese
also lost most of their own culture, but when the Belgians invaded their country and took over they did
bring religion and education. Overall the Belgians destroyed the Congo because of their greed, and
their past is still remembered today. Imperialism had a vast impact on the Congo s economy. The first
thing the Belgians wanted was control over the Congo s economy, so that they could have their
supplies of ivory and rubber. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

people of the Congo into doing the work, and if they didn t do as they were told to the Force Publique

their children to also join the Force Publique. Until the book The Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad

Online Vehicle Rental System
PROPOSAL FOR AN ONLINE VEHICLE RENTAL SYSTEM
A DISSERTATION PROPOSAL SUBMITTED IN PARTIAL FULFULLMENT OF THE UNIT (
PROJECT, UNIT CODE) BIT 2221.
JUNE 2012
ABSTRACT
This project is being considered in order to reduce and totally eliminate loss of customers to
competitors, and save the company from folding up. The current system is manual and it is time
consuming. It is also cost ineffective, and average return is low and diminishing. Currently, customers
can call or walk in in order to rent or reserve a vehicle. The staff of the company will check their file
to see which vehicle is available for rental. The current system is error prone and customers are
dissatisfied. The goal of this project is to automate vehicle rental ... Show more content on

It will be easy for the company staff to keep track of available, reserved or rented vehicle so as to
avoid the confusion of reserving one vehicle for two clients which is a common problem when using
manual systems To the Client/customer
The customer will not have to travel to the company offices for Him to reserve of rent a vehicle. He
will do so at the comfort of his home or office.
1.4 Problem Statement
Currently the system being used is a manual one where clients have to come physically into the office
in order for them to rent or reserve a vehicle. The system poses a number of challenges that include:
1. Time consuming
In the current system, clients have to come to the company offices physically in order to rent or
reserve a vehicle which is a waste of time.
When there are many clients to be attended to it may take long for the company staff to serve all of
them.
2. Error Prone
The company staff are very likely to make errors when using the current manual system, for example
it is very easy to reserve one car for two clients, under charge or overcharge a client.
3. Cost
The operating cost of the current System is high but with the implementation of the Automated
System only a few no of staff will be able to run the System.
1.5 Proposed solution
The problems of the current System will be addressed by the development of an online vehicle rental
and reservation System so that customers do not need to walk in or call in

Presidential Election Scenarios
The Presidential Election of 2016 is making an impact in, on, and around America. Military and War
on Terror is a topic that is based on where the government is sending troops; when they are going; and
why they are going to these places. The government has also allowed us to open many prison camps
that hold prisoners from places like Iraq, and the Middle East countries. The leaders that are going to
have to make these decisions and have our lives in their hands that are coming are either, Hillary
Clinton, Donald Trump, Jill Stein, or Gary Johnson. Clinton is a democrat. Trump is a Republican.
Stein is part of the Green s Party. Johnson is part of Libertarian s party. Guantanamo Bay known as

The American Political Tradition Summary
Richard Hofstadter examines the political beliefs of the founding fathers in the first chapter of the
American Political Tradition. Ideas thought about by most Americans to be the center of our
organization, our founders viewed liberty, democracy, and property, as evil. The composition can be
depicted to be vicious as well, because liberty, democracy, and property are linked to the United States
Constitution.
Democracy is first stated in the chapter by Hofstadter, democracy is evil according to our founding
fathers. Men are selfish and argumentative. Hofstadter says, Calvinistic sense of humor, evil and
damnation. Basically saying that our democracy is bound to fail. It also has been said that the most
seen dangers rest in the democratic parts of America s constitution. Our founding fathers believed that
democracy could potentially be the root problem in our country. During the time period democracy
wasn t seen as a political party that brought progression to our country and didn t last very long.

A Day At Merritt Reservoir
Have you ever smelled 4 day old moldy tube socks that have been soaked in lake water and left under
a bed? As a cabin keeper at Merritt Reservoir I had many bizarre encounters in a mere three month
summer break. Imagine walking into the crammed bait shop on a crisp summer morning. You clock in
for the day and gather all the supplies needed to get the job done. These supplies may range from the
typical cleaning utensils such as rags and window cleaner, extra toilet paper and towels, Febreeze, and
rubber gloves for sticky situations. However, you also must be sure to grab mousetraps, a bible, and a
strange device that consists of a hook on a long wooden rod. You will soon learn what these items are
for, and how handy they can be throughout the day ahead. The ongoing task of the day is to heave
your massive cleaning cart up and down the slopping old concrete walkways leading to each cabin.
This monster is convenient since it carries all of your items and you have them handy all at once, but
can be a workout on a long day. When cleaning cabins, you do not have a set amount of hours to look
forward to finishing. Every day, you are given a set amount of cabins, which can vary depending on
how busy the lake is. You must complete that set amount throughout the day, regardless of how fast or
slow you work. The first cabin of the day houses a family of 4 who must rarely rough it in the woods.
They have requested every day this week to be the first to get cleaned out in the

Because I Could Not Stop For Death Housman Analysis
Death is quite scary thought isn t it? After all, it is a subject many people don t like to talk about. We
all fear death in some ways, such as losing a loved one, not knowing if they re still happy and even not
knowing what might come after death. Regardless of how we all feel on such a sad matter, it is truly
inevitable and we must all accept it. If we begin to look at death in a more beautiful way and not so
sinister, we can have a better understanding. In the two poems, Because I Could Not Stop For Death
by Emily Dickinson s and To An Athlete Dying Young by A.E. Housman while the theme differs, they
are much alike in some ways. Emily Dickinson s poem, Because I Could Not Stop For Death gives me
a sense of peace when it comes to death. The theme portrays death as a easy, peaceful ride when one
passes away. The overall metaphor here is comparing death to a carriage ride. She describes death as a
calm person, and she seemed to trust him as he took her through the town to her death, It felt like she
was getting one last ride to say goodbye and let go. The line We slowly drive He knew no haste gives

Housman is very sentimental and really touches me. The theme throughout the poem is clear, that an
athlete well known throughout a seemingly small town passed out. Any one that is a athlete will make
a connection with this poem, because I certainly did. The line And silence no worse than cheers makes
me feel a connection to a person i don t even know, I can imagine the crowd cheering on the person
and how quiet it must be the day he or she dies. Another line from the poem says it withers quicker
than the rose this is metaphor for how the cheerfulness of the town withered away after such a great
loss. The overall theme is very heartbreaking, the complete opposite of how I felt reading Emily
Dickinson s poem. Reading this I really felt like I was a part of the town that lost such a young

Understanding Piaget Theory And Information Processing Theory
The study of Cognitive theories has many different aspects that have been debated many years ago.
Developmental psychologists try to explain cognitive development approaches which describe the
process of human s thought. One of the developmental psychologist who studied on the area of
cognitive was Jean Piaget. Jean Piaget a Swiss psychologist was the first developmental researcher
who has extensive research on cognitive development. In addition, the revolution of Jean Piaget s
cognitive theory has changed the development psychology forever. In fact, although this theory is one
of the most influential theories that have had a major impact on child s cognitive development, many
developmental psychologist has been criticized it as well(Miller,2007). Therefore, the limitations of
this theory made the developmental psychologists thinking of information processing theory might
complete Piaget s Theory(Miller,2007). Information processing theory is another theory that was
engaged in the era of cognitive development. It is possible to better understand Piaget theory and
Information Processing theory by comparing several important aspects of developmental psychology:
nature of humans, quantitative or qualitative, and nature or nurture.
Piaget Cognitive Theory
To begin with, Piaget s cognitive theory has four stages. According to Miller,2011 she states that
Piaget described each stage and referred them to the ability of human understanding. First stage is the

Unhealthy Eating Healthy In The United States
One important part of having a good workout is having a good and healthy diet. If you trying to lose
weight by exercising but you re eating something like McDonald s everyday while drinking a large
soda you are not going to lose very much weight. Eating lots of junk food is not very good for your
health or weight due to the excess amount of sugar, salt, and fat found in them. Eating healthy can be
hard for many people though because healthier alternatives are often more expensive or they are
misled into thinking what is healthy for them and what is not. Unhealthy eating habits have
contributed to the obesity problem in the United States. About one third of U.S. adults are obese and

Explain The Achievements Of The Federalist Era
The Federalist Era is the period of time from about 1788 to about 1801, beginning with the ratification
of the Constitution and ending with Jefferson s inauguration as President of the United States. The
Federalist Era is characterized by how the Federalist Party took over and transformed politics in the
United States. The Federalist Era brought about quite a few achievements in failures. During the
Federalist Era, there were a lot of achievements in the United States. First of all, the Federalist Era
arguably began with the adoption of the United States Constitution. The Federalists, who later became
the Federalist Party, were the supporters of ratifying the Constitution. Anti Federalists did not support

First of all, an event known as the Whiskey Rebellion occurred during the Federalist Era. In
Pennsylvania, farmers used corn to produce whiskey in order to utilize more useful modes of storage
and transportation. In Hamilton s plan of tariffs and taxes, there was an excise tax on whiskey
produced in the United States. The tax triggered violent protests from farmers in Pennsylvania. George
Washington used executive power to put down the rebellion. In addition, the rebellion caused a deeper
division between political parties. Second of all, the Federalist Era is characterized by resistance from
the opposing Democratic Republican Party. The Democratic Republican Party began with Thomas
Jefferson s resignation from Washington s cabinet due to decisions on Federalist policy. Jefferson
especially disagreed with Alexander Hamilton s decisions on finances. By the end of the Washington
presidency, the partition between loose and strict constructionists had transformed into two political
parties. The loose constructionists became the Federalist Party and the strict constructionists became
the Democratic Republican Party. In Washington s farewell address, Washington warned the people of
the United States about how political parties can cause the destruction of the government. Third of all,
the Federalist Era is characterized by foreign conflicts and tension. During the Federalist Era,

Tim Burton Influences
Tim Burton the creator of a plethora of childhood films is in numerous of ways, so to say one of the
best directors. The style of Tim Burton is very different to the regular fairy tales that people are used
to. Often times the setting is dark and around someone different. One attribute that sets Tim Burton
away from other directors is his influences from when he was a kid. Tim Burton uses many thoughts
that some may call junk. However, he uses these tools to create a whole new image that he interpreted
in a whole new way. Many of Tim Burton s works were often influenced by Dr. Seuss, Edgar Allen
Poe, and Vincent Price. They often promoted rhyme and plot in an extraordinary way. However the
characteristics that actually set him apart from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of Tim Burton s movies have some sort of editing that allows the setting and plot to be in the right
places and location at all times. As Tim Burton uses editing for a myriad of his animated and stop
motion projects it helps construct the vision of the pictures flow smoother and have a more desired
effect that intrigues people. These effects can be seen in all films, however, better in some than others.
We see excellent use of editing from Tim Burton in graphics and video quality to produce things look
better and flow easier. Some examples of this, come in the movies of Charlie and the Chocolate
Factory(2005) and Edward Scissorhands(1990). For example, we see that in Charlie and the Chocolate
factory(2005) the editing plays a big role in what we think of the characters and our viewpoints of the
characters simply by the editing and graphical imagery. Augustus Gloop, a fat boy with tiny eyes of
German descent, to make the character Tim Burton used editing to create a child who was fat and
animated to make an appearance that didn t hurt the casters feeling of being fat and unfit. Another
example is in Edward Scissorhands(1990) we see the look of the town in a plastic and unrealistic and
cheap way. The way that it looked showed how artificial and unlifelike the town really was. These
examples show how animating and editing can greatly change how we see the image of a character or

The Earl Of Rochester And Jonathan Swift
When reading Eighteenth Century literature it is clear that the concept of one s privacy was non
existent, particularly in poetry. Poets of this period were more aware of the growing public readership
they had as a result of developments in education, and people from each class were now able to access
poetry. This meant what was published had a greater impact on society, as poetry became increasingly
[...] a more public form of expression (Goring, P. p.64) for writer s opinions on political and private
matters. The Earl of Rochester and Jonathan Swift both portrayed the private world to this public
audience in their poetry, but through the use of satire. The issues they wrote about were so intimate
that it was essential for them to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An imperfect picture is created of Rochester s private world compared to his public life, and the
negative effects the early Eighteenth Century libertarian lifestyle has had on him. His demeaning
language and its comparison with an ideal scenario create the satire that is needed to bring Rochester s
private world into the public world.
Swift on the other hand is trying to expose the private world of a lady s dressing room, something new

How To Write A Rhetorical Analysis By Edward O Wilson
The two passages by Edward O. Wilson from the book The Future of Life revolve around the issue of
environmentalism. Each passage utilizes satire to show the views of the opposing side. Wilson s use of
satire illustrates the unproductive nature of the discussions between the two sides. In the first passage,
The People First Critic Stereotypes the Environmentalists, the environmentalists are portrayed
negatively by the people first critics. Wilson uses diction and hyperbole to prove the point of the
people first critics. Diction plays a large part in the structure of the passage. Wilson uses words such as
environmental wackos and extremists to describe the environmentalists. This diction is aimed to
discourage readers from siding with the environmentalists. Hyperbole is utilized at the end of the
passage through an example of environmentalism. Wilson states, Some Bennington College student 20

Along with diction, the environmentalist also appeals to pathos. Diction is utilized through vocabulary
such as sagebrush rebels, worst bunch of hypocrites, and anti environmentalists. The diction portrayed
in this text is tied into the satire used throughout the text. The appeal to pathos comes when Wilson
states, In America the rightwingers have made the word conservative a mockery. What exactly are
they trying to conserve? Their own selfish interests, for sure, not the natural environment. The
environmentalist wants to show that they fight for a stronger cause with less resources to use. The use
of each rhetorical strategy strengthens the satire Wilson uses in the discussions by these two

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow Poem
Into each life some rain must fall ( The Rainy Day ). Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was a writer and a
poet who wrote about death often. In his life, he was given an honorary doctorate of Laws from
Harvard. The famous poet died at the age of 75 from severe stomach pains on Friday, March 24. 1882.
He left behind a trail of legacies. He was one of the most popular figures in America and Europe. He
was buried next to his two wives in Mount Auburn Cemetery. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, an
American writer, used his life and philosophical ideas to write poetry about nature, death, and
emotions.
Henry Longfellow grew up in a life where he was expected to follow in his father s footsteps but
broke away to poetry instead. At the age of fifteen, in 1822, Longfellow attended Bowdoin College in
Brunswick, Maine, along the side of his brother, Stephen H. His grandfather being the founder and his

Henry had a way of tying things going on in society, his personal life, and emotions in his poetry. He

Why Did Shakespeare Chose To Modernize Hamlet
Looking at the chose that were given the play that I would chose to modernize would have to be
William Shakespeare s Hamlet. The main focus or image would be on the fact that he lost his father in

the heart of Detroit. With all this kind of drama that happens in Detroit, Michigan in the heart of the
Motor City this would be right in the spot. The set would be simple it would be in the gallows of
Detroit between 6 mile and 7 mile near Woodward Avenue. The new and modernized play would be

The National Security Agency Invasion
Living in a country that is known to be Land of the free... is not exactly what most people dream of.
The United States may be known for its freedom and power, but most people are unaware of the
covertness behind the government. And by now, almost every American citizen knows that privacy no
longer exists. In this century and country, it really does not. In the United States, most people look
toward the government as salvation, protection, and reliance. Unfortunately, not everything is as good
as it seems. Imagine your personal information, your daily conversations, and your daily actions being
viewed and judged by the government. This is exactly what the government does. Sometimes the
government is not always our solution; they can also be our problems.
National Security Agency (NSA) is also known as the President s Surveillance Program . It was first
implemented after the Twin Towers attack on September 11, 2001 by President George W. Bush. Soon
after, more surveillance programs sprouted in order to assist the National Security Agency. Some
surveillance programs include the FBI, IRS, Terrorist Scanning Center (TSC), Department of Defense
(DoD), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), etc. All of these surveillance programs s main
purpose is to conduct a range of surveillance activities inside the United States in search for terrorists.

Parasailing Sailing over a hundred feet above blue waters sounds incredible, right? Well, I have it was
honestly the most terrifying and thrilling thing I have ever done. I got onto the ship to get to the bigger
bout and thoughts started to creep into my head like a shark was going to attack me, or I was going to
drown. My heart was beating at least 200 beats per second. Too start off this great story, I got up in the
morning of a sunny and bright day at the beach. I was at my Aunt Lorraine s and she was like Shadee,
do you want to do something crazy.
So, I said Yes, of course, I would love to! Before we went to find something too do we went and got
breakfast, and picked up my grandmother. Meanwhile sitting at the beach, we saw this yellow banana
looking raft going across the ocean. I asked, What the heck is that. They replied, I have no idea. As my
Grammy Kim got up, we all got up. My Aunt Rainy asked, Where are you going. Kim said, To see
where those boats are taking them. While, we walking we found out the yellow raft is called a banana
boat. Which was extremely ironic. We laugh for at least ten minutes. It was so hilarious. The banana
boat was taking people to a bigger boat called the Captain. I said, Can we go parasailing or just ride
the Banana Boat? As a man started walking up to us he said, Hi, my name is Seth. I work for the

A Reflection Of Human Thoughts Expressed Through Dreams
Literature is a reflection of human desires, imaginations and fears. Sigmund Freud said that
psychoanalysis is the investigation of human thoughts expressed through dreams. Freud s theories
consist of interpretations of dreams, how human nature consists of patterns set in our minds, and how
sexuality had a radical effect on art, specifically, literature. Tucker Max once said that, The point of
psychoanalysis is to really understand the roots of your behavior. Understand why you are doing the
things you re doing and connect your unconscious to your conscious. In the story, Peter Pan, J.M
Barrie explicitly expresses how a person s innermost desires and fears are mirrored through their

Secondly, Peter s hatred for parents was explained through, I thought like you that my mother would
always keep the window open for me, so I stayed away for moons and moons and moons, and then
flew back; but the window was barred, for mother had forgotten all about me, and there was another
little boy sleeping in my bed. The readers see here that Peter did go back just to see that he had been
replaced and forgotten. In the story, the author said that Neverland reflected Peter s emotions, when he
came back from London, everything in Neverland felt so happy again and when he was fighting hook,
the weather felt so heavy. Maybe, that is why the people from Neverland forget the family they left
behind, so then they won t be the only ones who remembers their family when their family already

keeps on killing the Captain of the Pirates, Hook and the ones before him. Similarly, why he was
lashing out on Wendy s mom when she suggested that he stay with them. All of his anger and
uncertainty came from him wanting to come home and found out that his family forgotten about him.

AIDS Denialism And AIDS Conspiracies
Political leadership is vital to influencing people s beliefs in the credibility of AIDS conspiracies.
Charismatic leaders also plant the seeds of denialism in the minds of the general public, which fuels
AIDS denialism and AIDS conspiracies. For example, influential leaders such as Louis Farrakhan,
Jeremiah Wright, Will Smith, Spike Lee, and Bill Cosby have stated that HIV is being used as an
agent to harm the black community. For example, Louis Farrakhanㄧleader of The Nation of Islam
promoted the ineffective AIDS drug Kermon as a nostrum to the black community. Kermon was
introduced in the 1990 s after a clinical trial study conducted by the Kenyan Medical Research
Institution, and published results from the study concluded that the drug improved the health of AIDS
patients and even resulted in some patients sero reverting to an HIV negative status (Nattrass 2012).
In conclusion, HIV scientists being skeptical about the drug due to the inconsistencies within the
clinical trial, Kermon was heavily promoted in the African American community. Farrakhan sold
Kermon to AIDS patients through clinics operated by the Nation of Islam. During this time, The
Nation of Islam s publication Final Call promoted conspiracy theories about the man made origin of
AIDS, and claimed that FDA approved antiretrovirals were poisonous and a part of a white conspiracy
to kill blacks (Epstein 1996). Louis Farrakhan assisted in promoting AIDS conspiracy beliefs while

The single most important aphorism Morrie says is, The truth is, Mitch, he said, once you learn how to

limited, the life that has been lived already seems to have been for nothing. Learning how to life
comes with the consequence of accepting the future fate of death and beginning to live in the moment,

The Revolutions Of The Celestial Orbs By Nicolaus...
The texts The Revolutions of the Celestial Orbs by Nicolaus Copernicus and Two New Sciences by
Galileo demonstrates a powerful illustration of heliocentric hypothesis. In each book, astronomer
Nicolas Copernicus and Scientist Galileo Galilei describes their theory and assumption about the
motion and shapes of the planets and objects based on their understandings and advocating earlier
scientist s thoughts. Nicolas Copernicus describes Sun as the center of the universe, which is spherical
in shape and other planets(wanderers), which are also spherical revolve around the sun in a Uniform,
Eternal, and Circular motion. Likewise, Galileo defines the motion of massive bodies (planets) are
steady and uniform, and distance traveled by these bodies are equivalent at equal intervals of time.
However, in Idols of the Mind, Francis Bacon demonstrated that there were flaws in the assumptions
made by the scientists because they conducted the practical experiments and theories based on their
own understanding. According to his scientific investigations, past scientific thinkers used tests and
experiments based on their thoughts, which he thinks corrupts the nature of things as they try to
compound their nature with it. Copernicus and Galileo commit errors by demonstrating theories and
performing experiments based on the human understandings of themselves and other scientists, like
Aristotle. However, because this leads to the corruption of a more natural way of thinking, Francis

When Clinton discussed her experience as a First Lady, the expected tone would have been very

Lincoln-Douglas Debate Essay examples
Every single moment that takes place in history arguably leaves an effect that lasts much longer than
just the initial outcome. The Lincoln Douglas Debates are by far one of the truest examples of this
happening. The seven debates between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas that took place in 1858
had extreme importance in Illinois that created effects that decided the presidential election of 1860.
The Lincoln Douglas debates were a series of several debates that took place all over the state of
Illinois. In these debates, two men argued in order to express their beliefs and standpoints on certain
issues, primarily slavery, in an attempt to be elected into a seat in the U.S. Senate. The two men that

Abraham Lincoln began as a lawyer born in Kentucky who gained attention to himself through having
contrasting beliefs to Douglas over the topic of slavery. Through the Lincoln Douglas debates, Lincoln
morphed into a candidate prepared to become an unforgettable president (History).
On June 16, 1858 made the statement a house divided against itself cannot stand, in a speech about
slavery, deeply contrasting with Douglas s views and speaking about the conspiracy of the democratic
plot to get slavery legalized in every state. This conspiracy, of course, was being partly conspired by
Stephen Douglas. Three weeks later, Stephen Douglas refuted these claims while also calling Abraham
Lincoln a dangerous abolitionist (Looking for Lincoln). Being an abolitionist at the time held a very
negative connotation because abolitionists were often irrational extremists (Morel 4). The following
evening, in the exact same place as Douglas had spoken, Lincoln spoke once more.
The Lincoln Douglas debates all began due to the fact that Douglas had been travelling all over the
state of Illinois making speeches in order to increase the likelihood of his chance to be reelected into
the U.S. Senate. More often than not, less than a week later, sometimes the very same night, the

Throughout the history of America issues around race have brought great debate and augments. Being
a nation birthed from ideals of freedom and undeniable human rights, America has failed in being
truthful to its founding. The treatment of African American is an atrocity that stains the history of our
nation s past. Steps have been made to heal the injustice, but they are just steps. In this essay, I will be
discussing school desegregation focusing on the landmark and controversial Supreme Court case of
Brown v. Board of Education and the effect is had on the nation and even the world. Many people
ignore the fact school segregation has not been fixed. The Supreme Court case of Brown v. Board of
Education is just something people learn in their social studies class. Most think this case was the end
of the story and schools were desegregated and everything was happily ever after, but this is sadly not
the reality. The reality is Brown has failed us. The effects can be seen in the schools of today in many
American cities but in this essay, I will use the case of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul to
illustrate the massive shortcomings of this ruling today. The story of school desegregation in the
United States started with a civil action lawsuit raised in the first district court of Kanas on June 10,
1951. Mr. Oliver Brown brought his complaint to the Board of Education of Topeka. The complaint

Pathophysiology of Diabetes Mellitus
Pathophysiology of Diabetes Mellitus
Diabetes Mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases. The body is unable to produce or absorb sufficient
amounts of insulin. This causes elevated levels of glucose in the blood. The pancreas normally
produces insulin which regulates the level of glucose in the blood as 1)well as how it s used. Glucose
is vital to your health because it s an important source of energy for the cells that make up your
muscles and tissues. It s also your brain s main source of fuel (mayoclinic.org/ 2014).
The endocrine pancreas is filled with the islets of Langerhan. These islets, or regions of the pancreas,
are clusters of cells, which each islet containing 3,000 to 4,000 cells. Scientists estimate there are ...

However, the dysfunction here is in the cells that are receiving the message from the insulin (Dr.
Andrew Wolf, You Tube Pathophysiology of Diabetes Mellitus). As stated by Dr. Wolf, the most
current theory is that those persons having high levels of fatty acids circulating in their blood causes a
high level of inflammatory cytokines hormones in the blood. These block or interfere with this
messenger system. Thus, glucose cannot get into the cell. The result is a high blood glucose level
which stimulates the beta cells to make more insulin. However, as the problem continues, extra insulin
is produced by the overworked beta cells over time and some of these cells are destroyed. You then
have Type 2 Diabetes. If this condition isn t corrected by diet and lifestyle changes, the disease will
get worse. Higher and higher levels of glucose will eventually kill off all the beta cells and you will
now have a Type 2 Diabetic who is insulin dependent. If there is a persistent consumption of glucose
and hyper processed foods, our cells change by reducing the number of receptors on their surfaces to
respond to insulin (Perlmutter,2013). Perlmutter(2013) notes that there is cell desensitization to insulin
which causes a condition called insulin resistances. Then the cells can ignore the insulin and there is a
failure to retrieve glucose from the blood. More and more insulin is now pumped out by the pancreas
so that much higher levels become

The Importance Of The Hawthorne Effect
In middle school and high school, everyone at some point or another ends up playing the game would
you rather with their friends. This game can potentially show a side of someone that their friends may
not know about them. For example, if there is a girl, Suzie, and her friends give her the choice of,
would you rather date Jake or Thomas? Her friends may not know that she has a crush on Thomas and
if she answers truthfully, then they would possibly find out about the crush. This example is a small
portion of what the big picure is with this game, it is meant to help show who you really are and what
your personality is and what your preferences are. The question at hand now would be would I rather
have someone follow me around all day while I go about my daily routine undergoing an objective
test, or take a series of projective tests. I would definitely go with a series of projective tests. Since I
have a pretty good grip on what my personality is and what type of person I am, I am very prone to the
Hawthorne Effect. The Hawthorne Effect is a type of reactivity where the individual changes their
behavaior becuase they are aware they are being watched (Rosenberg and Kosslyn, 2014). If I was
going to have someone follow me around all day while I do my daily activities, I would not be acting

styles have their own uniqueness and character to them. After reading the assigned articles and
analyzing the writing process and other topics discussed in this class, I now see writing as an
extraordinary process that is different for everyone. After writing papers and getting feedback, I saw

What helped me analyze this was Carol Berkenkotter and Donald Murray s analysis of the writing
process. Donald Murray was analyzed for two months in his everyday life and they analyzed how the
environment he was in when writing affected his writing outcomes. The importance of the audience
when editing was highlighted in one of the final paragraphs and I did not realize the importance of the
audience really until I looked back and thought about my writing. Even going back to junior high
writing, your audience was the teacher, and your goal was to write to the teacher s specifications.
Writing is more than just sitting down and writing a dull essay. Even if it is not the first thought in
your head you still have to know your affordances, constraints, and audience in order to write
effectively and edit to the best of your ability. Going into this course I was afraid my writing style
would not be good enough, or up to par with the writing style of a professor for a college writing
class. The first paper I composed this semester was a rhetorical analysis paper in which I analyzed the
rhetor, the audience, the exigence, affordances, and constraints. If you would have asked me what
most of those terms meant last year at this time I would have given you a blank stare. After reading the
articles from Keith Grant Davie, Christina Haas and Linda Flower, and Laura Carroll, my eyes were

Understanding How Fallacies, Critical Thinking and...
How it all comes together 1
Understanding how fallacies, critical thinking and decision making techniques are all linked together.
What is a logical fallacy? According to the Webster dictionary (1996), a fallacy is a false notion. A
statement or argument based on a false or invalid inference. Fallacies can be divided into two different
groups; the first one is the fallacy of relevance where the premises are irrelevant to the outcome. The
other is fallacy of insufficient evidence, where the premises may be relevant to the outcome but does
not have enough evidence to support that outcome. Relevance can be described in three different
categories; 1. It can be positively relevant where it supports a certain statement. 2. It can ... Show

During these discussions, once you voice your opinion, fallacies in reasoning come out (Mckenzie,
1992).
A critical thinker is also a human being and somewhat a risk taker, when discussions come up, a
thinker always tend to voice own opinions depending on their own personal beliefs, these beliefs will
then determine what logically fallacies the conversation will fall into. A critical thinker should also
have the ability to reason correctly and try to identify any reasoning that are fallacies, this is why it is
so important to know and understand the different fallacies that will interrupt the four components of
critical thinking.
How it all comes together 4 Using the six stages of decision making is a helpful tool to understand and
overcome the fallacies of thinking.
1. Identifying and diagnosing the problem first one must recognize there is a problem and decides that
it needs to be solved and then be willing to do something about it.
2. Generating alternative solutions this is where the problem is being linked to alternative course of
actions.
3. Evaluating alternatives rank the alternatives.
4. Making a choice by using maximizing (best outcome), satisfying (acceptable), and optimizing (best
balanced).
5. Implement the decision carry out the choice you have made.
6. Evaluate the decision collect data of how well the choice you made worked (Bateman, 2003).

had two contrasting views on how the government should handle the market. Keynes believe on the
government controlling the market while Hayek wanted the government to stay away from it. Hayek s

The Palette Of King Narmer
The Palette of King Narmer Stretching across ten countries and spanning over four thousand miles,
the Nile River became the heart of Egyptian civilization. The lower (northern) Nile overflowed its
banks several months out of the year before the creation of the Aswan High Dam in 1970. When the
floodwaters receded, they left a new layer of rich silt behind, making the surrounding valley and delta
a fertile and desirable habitat. As early as 8000 BCE, the people who inhabited the valley of the world
s longest river became relatively sedentary and in 5000 BCE they adopted the agricultural village life
commonly associated with Neolithic culture. Throughout the Predynastic period, the North African
climate was immensely dry. In order to combat this problem, many villages formed alliances that
worked to control the river s flow. Over time, these small federations of villages conquered and
absorbed other weaker ones. As communities grew into chiefdoms, they began to advance rapidly
toward refined civilization shortly after 3600 BCE. Egypt became a consolidated state at the beginning
the Early Dynastic Period in 3000 BCE. According to legend, following creation, Upper Egypt in the
south and Lower Egypt in the north were both unified under Menes. Originally a powerful ruler from
Upper Egypt, Menes conquered Lower Egypt and became the first ruler to preside over a unified
Egypt. The Palette of Narmer was created in the Early Dynastic Period between 2950 2775 BCE and

old), that lives in New Canaan, Connecticut. Paul attends a prep school in another city while Wendy
attends school in New Canaan. The family lacks structure and communication. Neither parents know
what the children are up to, as shown when Wendy asked for money to pay for her band uniform (Lee,
Ice Storm ). Each member of the family is struggling to find happiness. This is demonstrated when
Paul does not want to come on the day before Thanksgiving to spent time with his family, he rather
travel on Thanksgiving Day. Mr. Hood had to convince Paul to come home a day early by saying:

He does drugs occasionally with his roommate. He also has a crush on Libbets. Wendy Hood is a
teenager that is curious about her sexuality. She has been playing sex games with her classmates,
especially Mickey Carver. She also steals from the local pharmacy. They both know that their parents
are having problems with their marriage (Lee, Ice Storm ).
I would use structural family therapy to counsel the Hood family. This therapeutic approach is best for
the Hood family because it will organize the ways in which each family member react with one
another. The Hoods boundaries are enmeshed. Mr. Hood is very disengaged with Mrs. Hood, their
relationship is estranged. Mrs. Hood is dependent on Mr. Hood for happiness, however Mr. Hood is no
longer happy thus he is seeking also. They need to develop mutual support for one another.
Mr. Hood gives the children more attention than his wife, which cause the power of the family
hierarchy to be dysfunction. To correct the family s dysfunction, the power has to be given back to the
parents. They must develop boundaries that separates them from the children. They must also improve
their communication skills with one

`` The Merchant Of Venice `` By William Shakespeare
Risk is a situation that involves the possibility of exposure to dangers. Risks exist everywhere, even
the most minute of actions can place someone in jeopardy. It is an inescapable labyrinth that plagues
the lives of all ever since humanity s first existence. Yet it,s double edged sword like characteristics of
also providing opportunities and gains keeps many enthralled in it. In William Shakespeare s The
Merchant of Venice, Antonio, a protagonist, gives himself over to a life threatening contract with the
villain, Shylock the Jew, in order to provide the means for one of Antonio s friend the opportunity to
woo a lady. Over the course of the play, various risky opportunities and events also expose other
relationships as means of satisfying their wants, although not all their outcomes are favourable. Risk is
the root cause of rewards and punishments in The Merchant of Venice. This is seen between the play s
rivals, such as Antonio and Shylock. Also is seen between lovers, such as Bassanio and Portia. It is
seen again between fathers and children, such as Shylock and Jessica.
The outcomes of the rivals plot, namely the struggles between Antonio and Shylock, were greatly
influenced by the partaking of risks. One of the risks taken by the main pair of rivals is Shylock
employing a malevolent bond purposed with ending the life of Antonio. Shylock demands that he will
have [his] bond; speak not against [his] bond:/ [he has] sworn an oath that [he] will have [his] bond.

The Montessori Method
In order to discuss the suitability of the Montessori Method to the revised primary school curriculum,
one must gain some understanding of both. This essay will briefly explore the revised primary
curriculum, the Montessori Method and finally discuss the suitability of the Montessori Method in
teaching the new curriculum.
The revised Primary School Curriculum (1999) developed as a result of input from the Review Body
on the Primary Curriculum (1990), the National Convention on Education (1994) and the White Paper
on Education (1994). It considers the Philosophical ethos of Curriculum Na Bunscoile and is guided
by the Education Act (1998). It is in fact an amalgamation of current educational thinking and the

Working in a Montessori classroom that promotes choice, demands one to move constantly,
particularly when choosing what or who to work with (p21).
Montessori curriculum can be broken down into the following headings. Each has a selection of
graded exercises which are presented to the child in sequence when they are ready:
Practical life exercises,
Sensorial
Number work
Language
In John Holt s very interesting book How Children Fail (1966 ) he poses the concept that although
children love learning they don t like being thought. He argues children thought in traditional ways
become unintelligent (p56). They strive for teacher approval by focusing importance on getting the
right answer; mechanisms such as reflecting and having an enquiring mind are supressed. Holts (1966)
suggests children had to teach him before he could begin to teach them (p.22), he emphasises the
importance of teachers observing, listening, and encouraging creative ways of being. This philosophy
sits very comfortably with the Montessori Method of teaching. As mentioned earlier directors must be
a guide observing children in their work. The new Primary School Curriculum calls for this approach
in that it promotes the development of children s capacity for creative expression and response

Maryland Vaccinating Case Study
I am passionate about this issues. I have worked as an immunization nurse for several years in the
state of Maryland. In Maryland there are strict requirements for vaccinating children for school entry. I
worked for Prince George s County and Baltimore County Health Department. In the state of
Maryland many children each year are out compliance and therefore are not allowed to attend school
until the requirements are satisfied.
The challenges with this policy issues is that many parents disagree with the mandated vaccination
laws for children. Parent s want to make their own decisions about whether to vaccinate their children.
Many parents have concerns about the safety of the vaccines or religious reasons for choosing not to
vaccinate.

Managing Virtual Teams
Managing Virtual Teams
1. Introduction
Virtual teams have emerged to mitigate the challenges of managing teams that are distributed across
different regions, and are a sustainable component of global business. A project manager managing a
virtual team would have to integrate communication strategies, project management techniques
including human and social processes in order to support the team, (Kimball, 1997). The author is a
project manager assigned to lead a virtual team of 300 volunteers located across the globe to develop
recommendations for regulating carbon emissions in the world. As indicated Kimball (1997), this kind
of a virtual team usually supports people working in the same professional field and most of the ...

This would minimize the crossing of time zones and the process can increase team effectiveness. The
author, as a project manager can establish a common time to interact face to face through video
conferencing.
b) Different cultural and language issues
Working with 300 individuals from across the globe requires a project manager to be aware of
different cultural and language issues. These individuals would have different ways of working,
thinking and also reporting differently. Integrating the work that has been submitted would be a
challenge as there will be no time to develop a common language. In order to solve this issue the team
needs to develop an open culture so that everyone can openly share information and not tolerate a
blame game.
c) Learning the new technology
It will be a problem if team members do not understand the virtual working process, which can hinder
communication therefore affecting team relationships. Team members must be oriented to the virtual
working process before the project commence so that they have enough time to ask. The author should
develop a support mechanism for the team to use when experiencing difficulties.
4. Motivating individuals to archive the project goal
These volunteers can be motivated by highlighting to them that, this is an opportunity for them to
sharpen their skills and knowledge through experience of this

Catheter Associated Bloodstream Infection Essay
Catheter associated bloodstream infection (CRBSI) occurring in the neonatal intensive care unit

Literary Devices In A Worn Path
Eudora Welty s short story, A Worn Path, details the journey of an old woman, Phoenix Jackson, going
to town to retrieve medicine for her ill grandson. Her trek is filled with many difficulties that
challenge her mental and physical state. Throughout the short story, Welty relays Jackson s
experiences through the use of allusion and symbolism. In applying these literary devices, Welty
successfully shows how the hardships Jackson faced increased her will to persevere despite doubt
from others, deprivation, and isolation. The title, A Worn Path, alludes to the central theme of the short
story, perseverance. Jackson s repeated walk to town and through life enables her to learn how to use
her disadvantages in her favor. Welty conveys a deeper meaning in the story with the use of famous
events in history as reference points in Jackson s adventure to town. Jackson s first name, Phoenix,
alludes to the Greek mythological bird with the same name. Like Jackson in this short story, the
mythological phoenix rises from its ashes over and over again despite its repeated collapse. During
one of her collapses, Welty exclaimed that, Down there, her senses drifted away. A dream visited her,
and she reached her hand up, but nothing reached down and gave her a pull, (Welty). This exemplifies
her connection to the bird and also portrays faith in God. Although she reached her hand up to God, he
did not believe it was her time to go to Heaven yet, and she awoke. In addition, her

  • 7. High Stakes High School Case Study Introduction According to the case study (Appendix A), High Stakes High School (HSHS) is a low income, underperforming urban high school in Bronx, New York. School enrollment consists of 79% Black and 21% Latino students. Of the student body, 91% qualify for a free or reduced fee lunch, and 13% qualify as English Language Learners (ELLs). Over the last decade, school performance has waned. The performance has coincided with troubling school level trends, such as increased absenteeism and suspensions, as well as gang activity and violence. Trying to align with the instability at the district level, the school has had six different principals. Action Plan During the months of July and August, I established a task force team, involving all stakeholders, in our school reform and prepared a 3 year action plan to turn around our school. As the principal of High Stakes High School, my team and I shared the action plan report, based on the school data and our research in education reforms, with the superintendent. Subsequently, the team shared the findings at the first faculty conference, at the Parent Teacher Association meeting in September, and with our students during the Welcome Back to School orientation session. The report identifies the three most important steps to promoting a positive school culture and planning change. As a cabin keeper at Merritt Reservoir I had many bizarre encounters in a mere three month summer break. Imagine walking into the crammed bait shop on a crisp summer morning. You clock in for the day and gather all the supplies needed to get the job done. These supplies may range from the typical cleaning utensils such as rags and window cleaner, extra toilet paper and towels, Febreeze, and rubber gloves for sticky situations. However, you also must be sure to grab mousetraps, a bible, and a strange device that consists of a hook on a long wooden rod. • 18. Because I Could Not Stop For Death Housman Analysis Death is quite scary thought isn t it? After all, it is a subject many people don t like to talk about. We all fear death in some ways, such as losing a loved one, not knowing if they re still happy and even not knowing what might come after death. Regardless of how we all feel on such a sad matter, it is truly inevitable and we must all accept it. If we begin to look at death in a more beautiful way and not so sinister, we can have a better understanding. In the two poems, Because I Could Not Stop For Death by Emily Dickinson s and To An Athlete Dying Young by A.E. Housman while the theme differs, they are much alike in some ways. Emily Dickinson s poem, Because I Could Not Stop For Death gives me a sense of peace when it comes to death. The theme portrays death as a easy, peaceful ride when one passes away. The overall metaphor here is comparing death to a carriage ride. Another line from the poem says it withers quicker than the rose this is metaphor for how the cheerfulness of the town withered away after such a great loss. Developmental psychologists try to explain cognitive development approaches which describe the process of human s thought. One of the developmental psychologist who studied on the area of cognitive was Jean Piaget. Jean Piaget a Swiss psychologist was the first developmental researcher who has extensive research on cognitive development. In addition, the revolution of Jean Piaget s cognitive theory has changed the development psychology forever. In fact, although this theory is one of the most influential theories that have had a major impact on child s cognitive development, many developmental psychologist has been criticized it as well(Miller,2007). Therefore, the limitations of this theory made the developmental psychologists thinking of information processing theory might complete Piaget s Theory(Miller,2007). Information processing theory is another theory that was engaged in the era of cognitive development. It is possible to better understand Piaget theory and Information Processing theory by comparing several important aspects of developmental psychology: nature of humans, quantitative or qualitative, and nature or nurture. The style of Tim Burton is very different to the regular fairy tales that people are used to. Often times the setting is dark and around someone different. One attribute that sets Tim Burton away from other directors is his influences from when he was a kid. Tim Burton uses many thoughts that some may call junk. However, he uses these tools to create a whole new image that he interpreted in a whole new way. Many of Tim Burton s works were often influenced by Dr. Seuss, Edgar Allen Poe, and Vincent Price. These effects can be seen in all films, however, better in some than others. We see excellent use of editing from Tim Burton in graphics and video quality to produce things look better and flow easier. Some examples of this, come in the movies of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory(2005) and Edward Scissorhands(1990). For example, we see that in Charlie and the Chocolate factory(2005) the editing plays a big role in what we think of the characters and our viewpoints of the characters simply by the editing and graphical imagery. Augustus Gloop, a fat boy with tiny eyes of German descent, to make the character Tim Burton used editing to create a child who was fat and animated to make an appearance that didn t hurt the casters feeling of being fat and unfit. Another example is in Edward Scissorhands(1990) we see the look of the town in a plastic and unrealistic and cheap way. In the first passage, The People First Critic Stereotypes the Environmentalists, the environmentalists are portrayed negatively by the people first critics. However, the dysfunction here is in the cells that are receiving the message from the insulin (Dr. Andrew Wolf, You Tube Pathophysiology of Diabetes Mellitus). As stated by Dr. Wolf, the most current theory is that those persons having high levels of fatty acids circulating in their blood causes a high level of inflammatory cytokines hormones in the blood. These block or interfere with this messenger system. Thus, glucose cannot get into the cell. The result is a high blood glucose level which stimulates the beta cells to make more insulin. However, as the problem continues, extra insulin is produced by the overworked beta cells over time and some of these cells are destroyed. You then have Type 2 Diabetes. If this condition isn t corrected by diet and lifestyle changes, the disease will get worse. Higher and higher levels of glucose will eventually kill off all the beta cells and you will now have a Type 2 Diabetic who is insulin dependent. If there is a persistent consumption of glucose and hyper processed foods, our cells change by reducing the number of receptors on their surfaces to respond to insulin (Perlmutter,2013). Perlmutter(2013) notes that there is cell desensitization to insulin which causes a condition called insulin resistances. • 46. The Palette Of King Narmer The Palette of King Narmer Stretching across ten countries and spanning over four thousand miles, the Nile River became the heart of Egyptian civilization. The lower (northern) Nile overflowed its banks several months out of the year before the creation of the Aswan High Dam in 1970. When the floodwaters receded, they left a new layer of rich silt behind, making the surrounding valley and delta a fertile and desirable habitat. As early as 8000 BCE, the people who inhabited the valley of the world s longest river became relatively sedentary and in 5000 BCE they adopted the agricultural village life commonly associated with Neolithic culture. Throughout the Predynastic period, the North African climate was immensely dry. In order to combat this problem, many villages formed alliances that worked to control the river s flow. Over time, these small federations of villages conquered and absorbed other weaker ones. As communities grew into chiefdoms, they began to advance rapidly toward refined civilization shortly after 3600 BCE. Egypt became a consolidated state at the beginning the Early Dynastic Period in 3000 BCE. According to legend, following creation, Upper Egypt in the south and Lower Egypt in the north were both unified under Menes. Originally a powerful ruler from Upper Egypt, Menes conquered Lower Egypt and became the first ruler to preside over a unified Egypt. Neither parents know what the children are up to, as shown when Wendy asked for money to pay for her band uniform (Lee, Ice Storm ). Each member of the family is struggling to find happiness. He also has a crush on Libbets. Wendy Hood is a teenager that is curious about her sexuality. She has been playing sex games with her classmates, especially Mickey Carver. She also steals from the local pharmacy. They both know that their parents are having problems with their marriage (Lee, Ice Storm ). I would use structural family therapy to counsel the Hood family. This therapeutic approach is best for the Hood family because it will organize the ways in which each family member react with one another. The Hoods boundaries are enmeshed. Mr. Hood is very disengaged with Mrs. Hood, their relationship is estranged. Mrs. Hood is dependent on Mr. Hood for happiness, however Mr. Hood is no longer happy thus he is seeking also. They need to develop mutual support for one another. Mr. Hood gives the children more attention than his wife, which cause the power of the family hierarchy to be dysfunction. To correct the family s dysfunction, the power has to be given back to the parents. They must develop boundaries that separates them from the children. Risk is the root cause of rewards and punishments in The Merchant of Venice. This is seen between the play s rivals, such as Antonio and Shylock. Also is seen between lovers, such as Bassanio and Portia. It is seen again between fathers and children, such as Shylock and Jessica. The outcomes of the rivals plot, namely the struggles between Antonio and Shylock, were greatly influenced by the partaking of risks. One of the risks taken by the main pair of rivals is Shylock employing a malevolent bond purposed with ending the life of Antonio. Working in a Montessori classroom that promotes choice, demands one to move constantly, particularly when choosing what or who to work with (p21). Montessori curriculum can be broken down into the following headings. He argues children thought in traditional ways become unintelligent (p56). They strive for teacher approval by focusing importance on getting the right answer; mechanisms such as reflecting and having an enquiring mind are supressed. Holts (1966) suggests children had to teach him before he could begin to teach them (p.22), he emphasises the importance of teachers observing, listening, and encouraging creative ways of being. This philosophy sits very comfortably with the Montessori Method of teaching. As mentioned earlier directors must be a guide observing children in their work. The new Primary School Curriculum calls for this approach in that it promotes the development of children s capacity for creative expression and response ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 54. Literary Devices In A Worn Path Eudora Welty s short story, A Worn Path, details the journey of an old woman, Phoenix Jackson, going to town to retrieve medicine for her ill grandson. Her trek is filled with many difficulties that challenge her mental and physical state. Throughout the short story, Welty relays Jackson s experiences through the use of allusion and symbolism. In applying these literary devices, Welty successfully shows how the hardships Jackson faced increased her will to persevere despite doubt from others, deprivation, and isolation. The title, A Worn Path, alludes to the central theme of the short story, perseverance. Jackson s repeated walk to town and through life enables her to learn how to use her disadvantages in her favor. Welty conveys a deeper meaning in the story with the use of famous events in history as reference points in Jackson s adventure to town. Jackson s first name, Phoenix, alludes to the Greek mythological bird with the same name. Like Jackson in this short story, the mythological phoenix rises from its ashes over and over again despite its repeated collapse. During one of her collapses, Welty exclaimed that, Down there, her senses drifted away. A dream visited her, and she reached her hand up, but nothing reached down and gave her a pull, (Welty).
