Reel Injun and Misrepresentation and Native Stereotyping on Screen
Misrepresentation of Natives on screen throughout the 20th century has had an adverse effect on them.
Whether it was positive or negative stereotypes, Natives felt the effect of Hollywood and began to lose
their self identity, their honour, and their pride. Reel Injun takes a look at how movies have defined an
entire race and also documents the rebirth of the Native identity after decades of destructive
Hollywood movies by interviewing notable Native actors, actresses, and activists. By doing so,
director Neil Diamond hopes to silence Hollywood stereotypes and get Hollywood to properly
represent the Native people.
Hollywood s early depictions of Natives consisted of tribesmen and noble savages who are in tune
with Nature. Films such as The Silent Enemy portray these stereotypes on screen with actors like

In 2005 an estimated 100 million people were homeless worldwide, and as many as 1.6 billion were
without proper housing. Homelessness is an often overlooked problem; people do not realize the
extremities of it. In fact, Columbus, GA has one of the highest homelessness rates in Georgia.
Homeless people are all over; they are in our backyard. People look over them every day on their way
to work, school, and home. They are regular people just like everyone else, yet no one takes care of
them. Unfortunate situations can happen to anyone, and when they do people reach out and do what
they need to take care of them; so why do people not do that for the homeless? This is a problem that
desperately needs help. In Boston, they have what is called Housing First. This is an organization that

Throughout my life my leisure activities have changed many times. From playing video games; to

going to get caught by the cops or someone of authority. The more I did it the less paranoid I felt but
never felt completely safe and always had a negative psychological effect. Tagging the walls was a
way to express how I felt at the time. I felt I had to represent my crew which i was involved with.
Participating in these activities did have a physical effect because most of the time I did a lot of
running. Whenever someone would catch us we had to run away as fast as we could and it would get
us tired. It did make me feel good the running had a good effect on my body as it slimed me down a

In the early 1900s, scientists and medical personnel did not have an answer to poliomyelitis, otherwise
known as polio. However, a breakthrough was reached when Jonas Salk managed to developed the
first vaccine, which he brought to the public in 1955 after testing the drug on himself, family, and
others. Salk developed a killed virus vaccine through tissue culture methods discovered by the

organization, and whether they deliver a product or a service. In a production based organization, the
effectiveness criteria are divided into product measures and employee measures. The possible
measures for the product include: increases in production, increases in sales, increases in market share,
increases in stock prices, reductions in the product cycle time, reductions in the number of reworks,

Hickock argues that in one study, only 15% of neurons discharged upon execution and observation of
the same action; the sound of a peanut shell being cracked (Kholer et al., 2002). He states that the
rationale to this is based on the mirror neurons assisting, action understanding; their activity would
demonstrate that they understood the meaning of the observed action. Hicock, (2009) argues against
this as 85% of neurons did not fire. Rizzolatti (2001) himself, states the findings of MNS did not rule

The cyborg acts as a metaphor for the postmodernist view of the world as well as the introduction to
new technology. To Haraway, the blend between nature and civilization gives birth to the cyborg, as it
is a hybrid of machine and organism (pg. 1). As part of her argument, the dualistic division between
biology and technology is no longer present because of the cyborg, and she incorporates the idea of

The perception in the text To Kill A Mockingbird of hate being a natural emotion is constantly

injustice may still occur however, the person/ people causing it need to be called out for it. This
