Contemporary Interpretations of Sacred Scripture:
Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen. I would like to begin by extending a warm welcome to todays
seminar that will dive into all things regarding religion and its place in a modern society. I will be
solely focusing on a contemporary expression that shows similarities and differences to a sacred text
of Christianity. So why is this of importance? The ever growing world we live in can often make it
difficult for traditions to be maintained in community s due to their arguably outdated form and
language. However, these values, messages and themes can be showcased and interpreted by viewers
in modern expressions such as film, song and poetry. The animated 2008 film Wall E, directed by
Andrew Stanton generally showcases the purpose of the story Adam and Eve. This is because of its
ability to teach the concept of straying from Gods way of life and the negative impacts leading a
greedy and consumerist lifestyle can have. The ways in which it showcases the ideas in both the parent
and derivative text can be seen in the interpretations of the central message as well as the context and
purpose of both pieces.
The central message of Wall E and the story of Adam and Eve is very similar. The story of Adam and
Eve reported in Genesis chapter two versus four until chapter three versus twenty four is commonly

Indigenous people are constantly put into categories by the North American government without the
White Canadians and Americans realizing it. Thomas King has a particular notion that as a society
there are three classifications that an Indigenous person can fall under; Dead, Live, or Legal Indian.
King uses the term Indian which some may seem as offensive although King proclaims: Terminology
is always a rascal and that there will never be a correct term to use, he suggests using the term that
people call themselves. Considering King s quote this paper will mainly include the terms Indian and
Indigenous when referring to Native Americans. Thomas King explains a Dead Indian as the North
American indigenous cliché of beaded, shirts, fringed deerskin dresses, loincloths, and moccasins.
With this description, Dead Indians are those who are noticeably Indigenous due to their clothing that
is typically only worn for ceremonies or dances. Live Indians are the forgotten about because they
happened to be forced into a reservation, dispersed in the rural areas, and cityscapes of North America
whereas King suggests where they were supposed to die out. King suggests that Live Indians are the
Indigenous people who are living in North America currently. Live Indians are biological Indians, but

The Black and White: The Help The Help, by Kathryn Stockett, a historical fiction novel, is set in the
early 1960s of Jackson, Mississippi. The novel is about racism during the Civil Rights Movement, told

Playing against the Buffalo Bison we the freshman Warriors had not played well. Throughout the
game shots had not dropped for us and we struggled in a close game. None the less, we continued to
play physical on both ends of the court. Fouls were called in bunches on both ends of the court, on
both us and the Bison. The difference in us the Warriors and the Bison was that was shot free throws

Max is a smart student, she played sports, joined lots of clubs, and volunteered in her local
community, but online was another story. Online Max would post racy pictures of herself and
comment rude things on other peoples pictures. She even cyberbullied. She was applying to Howard
University and her application looked perfect. 15 weeks into the admission process, she got a letter
saying, unfortunately she did not get in. The admission staff at Howard University knew that they
would have liked Max as a student there, but her digital footprint was terrible. This isn t the only time
that this has happened to students. Many students applying into college are being kicked to the curb
