Reconstruction Of The American Civil War
Minkyo Seo May 26, 2016 Reconstruction As the American Civil War came to a close, the United
States started to revamp the country, during what became known as the Reconstruction Era.
Throughout this Period of time (1865 1877), the authorities attempted to fix America politically,
economically, and physically. The United States unfortunately faced struggles, when people were
evidently unable to adapt themselves to the era. As a result of bringing an attempt to come back from
the defeat, the result was insufficient. This clearly shows that the Reconstruction Era was certainly not
a success because the changes created by the government failed to make positive changes to society.
There were numerous of conflicts in The Civil War and Problems the Nation was Faced with that led
up to the reconstruction. One of the origins of the war was Sectionalism. Sectionalism is the devotion
to the interests of one geographic region over interests of the country in whole. This ultimately led to
the union s worst crisis; Civil War between the North and the South in the early 1860s (Cornfield). On
the other hand, Kansas Nebraska Act Bleeding Kansas of 1854 was a major event occurred. This
created territories in Kansas and Nebraska, opened new lands and repealed the Missouri Compromise
of 1820. It stated over the issue of slavery in Missouri. It was decided Missouri entered as a slave state

Red Panda Research Paper
RED PANDAAilurus fulgens
Over View
Known as the Lesser Panda and Fire Fox, the Red Panda was first record in a 13th century Chou
dynasty scroll. It was only introduced to Europe by Thomas Hardwicke in 1821. The Red Panda is
approximately the same size of a racoon, except that it has a reddish brown fur coat. The red panda
weighs 7 to 13 lb, and is 50 to 66 cm long. As well it has a distinctive long bushy striped tail. In 1994,
it was established that the Red Panda population was vulnerable ( 10,000 individuals); however,
between 1996 and 2004 the situation got worse and these animals became endangered. Thankfully,
today population levels increased slightly and Red Pandas are only vulnerable. Population density (the

interactions much changed. Habitats started being destroyed and humans started killing and capturing
Red Pandas. Fortunately, organizations started to take notice and the population of Red Pandas has
been stabilized for the moment. National parks were created to stop the sharp decline. As well, there

My Dorm Room With Style
Let s face it dorm rooms can be depressing. Many of them are small, cramped, and devoid of any style
or life. And since you only live in them for nine months before moving on, it can feel pointless to
spend any real time decorating your space. While dorms have all sorts of restrictions that prevent you
from going wild with your décor, it is possible to decorate your dorm room with style that goes
beyond a few random posters on the wall. Follow these simple tips and ideas to infuse your dorm
room with style and enjoy your school year. Choose a Color Palette In college, it s easy to decorate
your dorm room as you go, collecting an array of pieces that don t really add up to much of anything.
To give your dorm room a cohesive look, choose a color palette that you love and use it as a guide
when choosing accessories. If you don t have a favorite hue, think of your favorite places or moods.
Deep blues and greens can invoke the sea and promote calm, while reds and oranges invite a spicy
flair that can awake and excite you. Don t go overboard in your color scheme, however, or you may
start to feel closed in rather than enjoy it. Organize your dorm room around one or two main colors
and accessorize in smaller ways with accent colors. Key pieces in your dorm room you can decorate
are the bedding, desk chair, lamp, clock, or even some accessory pieces on a desk or shelf. Be sure to
inject splashes of a complimentary color within the room to keep it from feeling too one note.

Hacienda Luisita Inequality
It all started in the year 1521 during the Spanish Colonization period. When the Spaniards settled in
Manila they conquered almost everything; from our culture to our lands. One of those lands is the well
known Hacienda Luisita, named after Luisa, the wife of a Spanish man who first owned it. When the
Philippines was freed from colonial rule, the Hacienda Luisita was eventually bought by the
Cojuangco family. This is where the controversy started and where the battle began between the small
farmers, who just wanted to distribute the Hacienda equally, and the Cojuangco family, who refused.
According to them, they will be able to give parts of the land should there be any tenants, but the
family has officially stated that there were no tenants in the Hacienda, therefore no one to distribute
the land to, despite the presence of the farmers. This decision still continues to be the subject of
criticism even in the present, cited as one of the many examples of inequality in the country.
Inequality has always been a never ending trend topic in the Philippines, and we can see that there is
indeed widespread inequality throughout the country today, defined in sociology as the existence of
unequal opportunities and rewards for different social positions or statuses within a group or society.
The Hacienda Luisita ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The land was borrowed by the family from the farmers, with both parties agreeing on a deal that, after
10 years, the Cojuangcos will return all of the land. However, as of early 2016, the Cojuangco Aquino
family has not yet returned most of the borrowed land, depriving ten thousand families of their just,
moral, historical, and legal rights to the land and its fruits. This shows that inequality is still present,
most especially between people of power and those who are on the lower ranks of

Uses and Precautions when Administering Mannitol Essay
Mannitol
Mannitol can be truly useful in the clinical setting as a diagnostic agent, osmotic diuretic and urinary
irrigant. Mannitol s chemical class is hexahydroxy alcohol and it is a pregnancy category B drug.
Mannitol is a six carbon sugar and is known by the generic name of mannitol or Osmitrol, which is the
most common brand name. Mannitol is usually available in 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25% injection
form. Mannitol is considered a diuretic which promotes urine production. It is also helpful in
preventing the kidney from shutting down. It increases osmotic pressure of the glomerular filtrate,
inhibiting reabsorption of water and electrolytes and creates an osmotic gradient in the glomerular
filtrate and blood (Lippincott Williams ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lippincott Williams Wilkins (2008) describe the absorption to be administered though I.V. which will
result in a rapid distribution that remains in the cell; it is vaguely metabolized and effortlessly filtered
by the glomeruli. It is crucial to point that mannitol crosses the placenta and may enter into the breast
milk in female patients. Mannitol is usually excreted primarily in urine.
As stated by Ronco, C., Bellomo, R., Kellum, J. A. (2009), osmotic diuretics like mannitol are
distributed rapidly withdrawing water from the intracellular space. As a result, headache, vomiting,
and nausea are the most common side effects in patients. If mannitol is used in excess without
appropriate water intake it can result in critical dehydration. As mannitol withdraws water from the
cells, hydrogen and potassium ions raise causing hypokalemic acidosis. Other possible adverse effects
of mannitol are as follow: confusion, disorientation, dizziness, lightheadedness, syncope, vertigo,
gastric disturbances, hypernatremia, dehydration, circulatory overload, thrombophlebitis, hypotension,
hypertension, edema, tachycardia, chest pain, diuresis and pulmonary congestion
Mannitol contraindicates patients with anuria as a result of acute renal disease, hepatic failure,
hypersensitivity to mannitol or its components, severe pulmonary congestion, active intracranial

layman terminology, it means the persistent inability of men to get or maintain an erection throughout
the intercourse and inability to attain sexual fulfillment. Erection requires an accurate sequence of
physiological processes. If any of these processes get interrupted, it leads to erectile dysfunction or

The recommended dosage is 2.5 mg in the starting and then increasing it to 5 mg if required. It should
not be taken by patients who are allergic to any ingredient in Cialis. If the patients have severe kidney
problems, taking Cialis daily is not a very good idea. Patients who have severe hepatic disorders or
hereditary degenerative eye problems like retinitis pigmentosa should avoid taking Cialis. Do not use
Cialis if you have certain heart problems like severe heart failure, low blood pressure or uncontrolled
high blood pressure. Patients with the history of a heart attack within the past 90 days or a stroke
within the past 180 days. Patients who are on nitrates in any form should not take Cialis. These
medicines include isosorbide, nitroglycerin and nitroprusside. If you have been advised not to indulge
in sexual activity because of heart problems, do not take Cialis. If you are using certain recreational
drugs known as poppers, contact your doctor. Do not forget to inform your doctor if you have allergies
to medicines, foods or other substances. Patients who have a deformed penis, hematological disorders
like sickle cell anemia, leukemia and multiple myeloma should inform the doctor beforehand about
such conditions as it can lead to prolonged erection or priapism. Some medicines may interact with
generic Cialis. Alpha blockers, azole antifungals and Rifampin are some of these medicines. Patients

Where The Grand Canyon And Lake Mead Collide
Where the Grand Canyon and Lake Mead collide, sits an ecological and historical oasis. The Virgin
Mountains stand tall in the background as waterfront views of Mead paint an unforgettable scene. This
desert abode served as host for early prehistoric inhabitants, Native Americans, early pioneers,
Spanish miners, and presently outdoor enthusiasts. Adventurists have the opportunity to explore over
800 miles of intertwining roads that braid the landscape. Gold Butte has remained one of Mojave s
most precious secrets for decades. This elegant desert hides only an hour and a half drive east of Las
Vegas and just south of Mesquite Nevada. Gold Butte s ecosystem is comprised of diverse organisms,
many of which are sacred and protected plants and animals. Joshua trees sit nestled deep in the
mineral enriched sand, while the bighorn sheep and tortoise roam the vast desert terrain. The almost
350,000 acres of public land is sculpted with rugged mountains, sandstone outcroppings, yucca
forests, slot canyons, and flat top mesas. Is it possible that a place with such a unique array of wildlife
and history can exist and remain a secret? Unfortunately, due to many factors over the past 20 years,
Gold Butte has been on center stage, but not just for tourism.
The technological uses of smart phones, GPS, digital maps, internet, and even social websites have
made it inherently impossible to keep public lands a secret. However, Gold Butte s fame did not

American Prejudice
iv. Prejudice can demean and destroy the lives of people. Discuss.
Prejudice have been prevalent throughout human history. Prejudice is the inflexible and irrational
attitudes and opinions held by members of one group about another. It predisposes us to behave
negatively toward certain people because of a group to which they belong. And when prejudice
reaches the intensity of hatred, it becomes bigotry. It is easy to view ancient racist or sexist attitudes as
patently absurd and to denounce them, yet often we do not acknowledge current widespread
prejudices that future generations may find just as incongruous.
With regard to discriminatory actions, Allport (1979) identified five negative behaviors caused by
prejudice: (1) verbal abuse against ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We do this by (4) limiting our interactions with people from racial or ethnic groups other than our
own. Measuring attitudes about avoiding others was the focus of research by Bogardus; this study
used a Social Distance Scale in which people encounter a list of racial, ethnic, and religious groups
and are asked to rank them in order of preference (Schaefer, 2008). People consistently reveal a
preference for those groups most like their own, and they have less regard for people from groups they
perceive as least like themselves. Another way to avoid certain groups is (5) to engage in or condone
discrimination in such areas as education, employment, and housing. To illustrate this behavior,
consider how people choose what sort of neighborhood they want to live in. In the 1960s, when courts
ordered urban school districts to desegregate, many school administrators responded by busing
students to different schools, a controversial solution that caused massive movement of white families
from urban neighborhoods to racially segregated suburbs, the white flight phenomenon. Despite the
passage of the 1968 National Fair Housing Act, studies have documented the preference of most white
Americans to live in racially segregated neighborhoods (Farley, 2005; Massey,

Freire The Banking Concept Of Education Summary
Effective Thinking: Becoming a Critical Thinker Students in today s academic world are simply lazy.
Who has time to sit down and critically analyze what is needed to be studied when there are better
things to do? In Freire s The Banking Concept of Education, he delineates the concept of how students
today are considered banking concept thinkers rather than where they should be, which is problem
posing thinking. Ultimately, Freire s argument helps recognize how to transform oneself into
becoming a critical thinker. Both the banking concept student and the problem posing student have
completely distinctive factors about them. The banking concept student in term is emphasizes that
students are passive absorbers of information and that the purpose of learning is memorization of
facts. This reinforces a lack of critical thinking and knowledge ownership in students, which in turn
reinforces oppression. One possible alternative is the Problem posing education model, in which
students are encouraged to think and tackle problems presented to them on their own. Problem posing
education solves the student teacher contradiction by recognizing that knowledge is not deposited
from one to another, but is instead formulated through dialogue between the two. As illustrated in
Freire s Pedagogy of the Oppressed, his image of the average student is categorized into two parts: the
banking concept student, and the problem posing student. Freire believes that most students are part of

Sds Lab Report

Name: Shelby Clark
Lab Partners: Kaliah Goodman, Howsikan Kugathasan, and Suntesia Bowen
Date of Laboratory: September 21, 2016
Goal of Laboratory:
The goal of this laboratory was to successfully make a gel and to run an SDS PAGE and determine
molecular weight (MW) of an unknown protein sample by comparing it to Log10 of the migration of
molecular weight of the standards.
Background:
The purpose of SDS PAGE is to separate proteins according to their size, and no other physical
feature. SDS (sodium dodecyl sulfate) is a detergent (soap) that can dissolve hydrophobic molecules
but also has a negative charge (sulfate) attached to it. Therefore, if a cell is incubated with SDS, the
membranes will be dissolved, all the proteins will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, if we had many copies of two different proteins that were both 298 amino acids long, they
would travel together through the gel in a mixed band. As a result, we would not be able to use SDS
PAGE to separate these two proteins of the same molecular weight from each other. Some possible
errors that occurred during this lab include poorly executing inserting the MW marker solution into
the well of the gel. This caused not so clear bands as shown in figure 1. Incorrect measurements of the
migration could also lead to errors in the data. The molecular weight of the protein was determined by
plotting a graph of the Log MW vs migration (cm) and generating a standard curve. The unknown
sample molecular weight was calculated as 79.43 kD. Experimental errors in this lab could be
minimized by carefully loading the wells on the

Science Stemming from Cellular Research Since the discovery of stem cells, scientist have been
studying new ways
Scientists have been using stem cells since their discovery to improve research and treatments. One
type of organ improvement stem cells have played an important part in recently is the heart. There can
now be a reduction in cardiovascular disease morbidity rates through the utilization of stem cells, and
worrying about compatibility and time can become a thing of the past. Through the use of stem cells,
repair, rehabilitation, and transplant can help or even cure myocardial necrosis. A stem cell is an
undifferentiated cell that can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, scientists at the Texas Heart Institute extracted stem cells and anti inflammitory from fat
tissue from a patient that had had a myocardial infarction. Scientists then injected the stem cells into
the damaged area of the heart. They then studied patients with stem cell injections and without stem
cell injections. From baseline to six months, they noticed patients without stem cells damage area
increased by 5.1%, and patients with stem cells damage area decreased by 3% (Texas Heart). This
study had positive affects, as did a similar one. Other scientists induced rats to have myocardial
infarctions. They then extracted cardiac stem cells from the rats themselves and injected them back
into the damaged area of the heart. Mortality rates decreased, and scientists noticed the aortic and
myocardial walls became thicker to protect themselves from future problems (Beltrami, Barlucchi,
Torella). From the use of stem cells, cardiovascular repair can greatly decrease mortality rates and
increase quality of life for survivors. After patients have gone through heart disease, like any other
injury, therapeutic steps must be taken. Therapy and rehabilitation of damaged hearts has been
improved through the utilization of stem cells. Therapy includes strengthening of the damaged area as
to prevent the incident from reoccurring and getting the patient back to their normal life. Scientists,
again, used rats that had had induced myocardial infarctions. This

The Transportation Industry Does Not Have A Great Impact...
Transportation is an important sector that drives economic activities within and outside the state.
Although transportation as a sector does not bring in significant revenues to the economy of Arizona,
it does assist the smooth operation of other industries such as manufacturing, tourism, agriculture and
mining. Without roads, rail, and airports, it would be difficult to move goods and services from one
part of Arizona to another. Arizona s transportation industry does not have a great impact on its
economy because the state is largely used as a transit hub. More than half of the freight that comes
into Arizona originated from outside, rests for some few days and moved to their destinations in other
states. This means that the Arizona state government can only gain relatively small revenues from the
freight may be in the form of storage charges, repackaging, and accommodation for truck drivers. The
remaining 50% of freight is intra state implying that no money is brought in from outside Arizona.
Transportation sector acts as a vital factor in attracting investors because modern businesses critically
examine the transport infrastructure before deciding whether to relocate or not. For instance,
manufacturing companies depend on well established road and rail network to move large volumes of
bulk freight. Some also rely on the trucking to move containerized freight on highways with low
congestion levels.

Object Storage Systems Are Complex Systems
Data Indexing
Object storage systems are complex systems that require high speed data management system to
handle the vast amount of object attributes. In CADOS, we take advantage of PostgreSQL
(Stonebraker and Rowe, 1986) database to store the object and stripe information. Namespace
technique is widely used to prevent the name conflict of objects with the same name. Each object in
CADOS is accessed via well defined namespace paths. The object path column is represented via ltree
structure (ltree, 2015) in order to support hierarchical tree like structure in an efficient way. This
structure allows us to use regular expression like patterns in accessing the object attributes.

All the communication between the master web worker and slave web workers are made in a message
passing fashion. At (2), master web worker distributes the URL list of the data segments across the
slave web workers which are created in the loading event of the web page. onmessage is an event
handler that is called when the message is posted to the corresponding web worker. In onmessage
handler of the slave web workers, unique IDs with URLs are posted to the slave web worker, then
each slave web worker starts retrieving data segments from the cloud object storage, again, by means
of AJAX communication technique (3). As the slave web worker finishes the retrieval of the data
segment, it posts the data pointer and corresponding index to the master web worker (4). Index of the
data segment is used to locate the data segment on the main cache created by the master web worker.
Because the data is passed to the master web worker using pointers, there is no data copy overhead.
Once all the slave workers finish data retrieval operations, the master web worker writes out the cache
to the hard disk (5). The downside of this technique the total amount of retrieved data is limited by the
RAM capacity of the user, although we anticipate this feature to be introduced in the future as a part of
HTML standard with the introduction of the File API:

What Role Does The Sphinx Play In Oedipus Rex

Spring 2015
Research Paper
Oedipus the King Greek Drama played an important civic role in ancient Greece. This is evident in the
tragic drama, Oedipus the King by Sophocles. The people of ancient Greece religiously believed in
prophecies and the fact that the Gods controlled their destiny. If something were to be wrong with
their lands then they would think that it was because something angered the gods, and in return would
try to sacrifice animals in an attempt to make the Gods happy. These are some of the key points on
which the play, Oedipus the King is based on. In order to not see the prophecy fulfill, Queen Jocasta

Sons attracted to their mothers and daughters attracted to their fathers. Sigmund Freud is known to
have the Oedipal Complex based on this play. However, there isn t much concrete evidence as to that
fact the Oedipus is attracted to Jocasta as his mother. First of all we don t get to see much of the
romantic side of their relation in this play so it is hard to say that there are any demonstrations of
Oedipal Complex in this play. Secondly Oedipus didn t know that Jocasta was his mother until the
very end. One might say that Oedipus might have originally agreed to married Jocassta because he
found her unconsciously attracted because of that fact that she was his biological mother. However,
her mother abandoned Oedipus at such a young age that he literally had no memory of Jocasta. Hence,
it is hard to believe that Oedipus unconsciously finds Jocasta attractive, not because she is attractive,
but because she is her

Q.1 In your own words, detail the for and against argument with regards to innate and learned
behaviour. Feel free to include your own opinion, but be sure to justify it. Try to include an equal
amount of information for the both sides. Use at least 500 words for your answer. For many years
psychologists have been researching behaviour patterns from birth. This is where the Nature vs
Nurture debate begins. Nativists believe that humans are born with various skills needed to survive,
where as Empircist believe that humans acquire all or almost of all their behavioural traits from
nurture . Some behaviours are innate, unlearned and instinctive. From the moment we are born there
are instinctive motions that we do. An example of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We were both encouraged to breast feed and having had daughters only a few months apart we shared
the experience for a short period of time. My sister struggled, with my niece unable to latch onto her
for several weeks. Feeding time soon became a very traumatic experience for both parties, however
my daughter and I had a completely different experience. From the first feed we had success, it
continued that way for many months. Later my sister learnt that her daughter had had colic , which is a
condition in which an otherwise healthy baby cries or displays symptoms of distress frequently and for
extended periods of time, without any discernible cause. With this information in mind, it left me
wondering whether it in fact took my niece a longer period of time to learn how to breast feed, or if
the natural motion was there but her colic condition prevented this from happening. Nurture,
historically was referred to as the care given to children by their parents, with a mothers role being of
particular importance. This term is now regarded as any environmental factor including external
family, their peers, as well as extending influences such as media. BINNS (1965) demonstrated this
experimentally. He studied babies less than 5 days old and found clear differences in a babies
reactions to being suddenly disturbed. [ref1] (Ahrens 1954), stated that from the 2nd to the 7th month

Paramedic Career Research Paper
It s not the lack of strength that holds us back, it s the lack of will. (Darrell Fitch) I used this quote
because it is very inspirational and speaks about life. Since I was a little boy I ve always wanted to be
a firefighter, as I always played with the toy fire trucks and acted like I was putting out fires. I have
always wanted to be a hero and being a firefighter will fulfill that dream. I have decided to choose the
career field of a firefighter, then, later go on and earn my paramedic degree. I chose this career
because I have always dreamed of being in the position to save somebody s life, and also I have
multiple family members who have chosen this career. I feel like becoming a firefighter/ paramedic is

A firefighter s salary can range from anywhere between $40,000 to $75,000. But the more years of
experience help out. Most of the firefighters with the basic entry level of education usually earn an
annual average of $41,000. If the applicant chooses the path of a paramedic, they will have a starting
salary of $70,000. Both these career paths have great benefits such as covering medical, dental, and
vision bills. Choosing this career limits the amount of vacation time the applicant is eligible to have. It
is possible to have summers and holidays off but it also depends on the schedule the station assigned.
Firefighter/ paramedics have the benefit and the satisfaction of saving people s lives. The applicant s
life will not be affected much because they will only work 56 hours a week. According to

week. Firefighter/ paramedics only work about 12 days in a whole month. This leaves them time to
acquire a second job, which would also help with the money aspect. Only the station manager can
make the hours, but you re able to trade hours. The average rate of pay per hour is $21, but firefighters

Thiorphan Research Paper
Ki: 4 140 nM
Thiorphan is a neprilysin inhibitor.
Neprilysin, also known as membrane metallo endopeptidase (MME), neutral endopeptidase (NEP),
and common acute lymphoblastic leukemia antigen (CALLA) is an enzyme that is encoded by the
MME gene. Neprilysin is a zinc dependent metalloprotease that cleaves peptides at the amino side of
hydrophobic residues and inactivates several peptide hormones. Neprilysin also degrades the amyloid
beta peptide with abnormal misfolding and aggregation, which has been implicated as a cause of
Alzheimer s disease.
In vitro: A previous study assessed the effect of thiorphan or captopril on proliferation of two human
tumor cell lines, A549 and HL60. The results showed that captopril could inhibit the proliferation of
both A549 and HL60 cells lines but thiorphan had antiproliferative effect only on A549 cells in a dose
dependent manner. However, neither captopril nor thiorphan treatment in combination with interferon
alpha or doxorubicin was able to enhance cytotoxic potential of doxorubicin and cytostatic activity of
interferon alpha [1]. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Sociological Analysis Of The Five Social Statuses
The macrosociology method that we are going to be talking about are the five social statuses that are
viewed are, status set, ascribed status, achieved status, status symbols, and master status. Along with
these social statuses Weber s term of the three P s apply, property which refers to wealth, power which
is getting others to do what you want, and lastly prestige, which is your social status. Status sets refers
to all the statuses or positions you occupy, such as being a mother, student, boyfriend, husband, and so

It is how we present our self in everyday life and the reasons we act the way we do. Reasons that may
affect how we present ourselves are the kind stage we re on, role performance, role conflicts, and role
strain. The difference between role and status is that you occupy a status, but you play a role (Linton
1936). Although statuses are macrosociology based, there is still confusion between roles and statuses.
Goffman believed that there were stages in which we performed our assigned roles such as front stage
and back stage. The front stage is wherever we deliver our lines for example, taking the role of your
occupation. The back stage is a place we can relax, have some privacy, and reflect from the front
stage. For example, being in your bedroom not having to worry about a thing and being able to discuss
what happened on the front stage. This can affect how we present ourselves because when we re in the
front stage we re putting up in act to present our self to whoever our audience is. Whereas in the back
stage we have no one to put on a show for and we can relax and let loose. Role performance is similar
with role conflict because a role performance is a certain interpretation that you give your role. For
example, I can play the role as a good student and turn in all my assignments in on time, score high on

Buchi Emecheta and African Traditional Society Essay
Buchi Emecheta s literary terrain is the domestic experience of the female characters, and the way in
which these characters try to turn the table against the second class and slavish status to which they
are subjected either by their husbands or the male oriented traditions. Reading Buchi Emecheta
informs us of the ways fiction, especially women s writing, plays a role in constructing a world in
which women can live complete lives; a world that may provide women with opportunities for

(xii) Emecheta s first novels which are set in Nigeria, The Salve Girl, The Bride Price and The Joys of
Motherhood work like a double edged sword. On the one hand, they are portraits of female bondage
(Frank 749), describing African women in their total submergence and enslavement. On the other, they
depict the structures and institutions which empower women and increase their participation in the
socio political, economic and spiritual activities in their community. In these three novels she gives a
picture of women in contemporary society as well as those in the past. The realistic picture provided
by the writer destroys women s contentment with the present state of affairs while giving insights into
the strategies that enable women to survive the oppressions of patriarchal society. Two types of
women are presented in these novels: those that concede to oppression and domination of the
patriarchal society and those who try hard to exploit the existing institutions of their society for their
best. It is mainly in these three novels that the writer intends to show the positive possibilities offered
to women in the traditional African society which helps them have some degrees of authenticity and
also remind the readers of colonialism s responsibilities in depriving women of these rights and thus
aggravating the subjugation. In an Igbo society there are

Confucianism In Hinduism, Jainism, And Buddhism
Karma affects the self, or soul, in Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism religions and these religions have
similar beliefs but each has their own interpretation of how karma affects the self of someone.
Humans relationship with nature plays a significant role in Indigenous, Daoism, and Shinto religions.
The Confucian virtues of Ren, Five Great Relationships, Li, Tian, and Yin and Yang all explain certain
beliefs of Confucianism in different ways of life.
Karma affects the self, or the soul, in Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism. According to Timothy
Peckinpaugh, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism religions all believe that you are reborn into another
life after this one. They also believe the actions of this life will affect the quality of their next life.
Hindus believe the ultimate goal is to obtain liberation, the freeing of the soul of karma, by escaping
samsara, in a process called moksha. According to Pravin K. Shah, At liberation, the soul of a person
joins with God because they are finally free of the painful cycle of karma. So after a Hindu is free
from their karma their soul is joined with God and they are ultimately free from karma and karma will
no longer follow them into their next life after liberation. According to Timothy Peckinpaugh, Jains
believe that the words, actions, and thoughts of people are what attracts karma to a person. So if
someone has bad thoughts or performs a bad act then they will attract bad karma to himself. And
attracting bad karma is seen as a failure in their life. Jainism believes in different types of karma some
are harmful and some are not harmful. The soul, jiva, carries karma, in Jainism, to each of their new
lives until they remove it or the karma causes the harm it was intended to do. One form of liberation is
when Jains follow vows to free themselves from the rebirth cycle that frees them of karma. According
to Pravin K. Shah, Jainism and Buddhism both believe that self realization is the ultimate authority.
They also believe in self control, nonviolence, penance, and meditation to be present in people s lives.
Jains and Buddhists try to not engage in violent activities or thoughts because they treat their bodies
with care and do not want to put any

The United States Should Allow Refugees
A couple months ago, 2017 arrived and brought controversial topics and arguments. Some of these
political disagreements are about the 2016 election and the current president of the United States,
Donald Trump. President Trump has already made executive orders in his time in office. One
executive order was to tighten the vetting of immigrants and visitors and ban the refugees who want to
settle in the United States. This order ignited protests and riots among some groups of people who
were and are still upset and want to help others who are escaping their country and coming to the U.S.
to seek safety. The United States should allow refugees into its county. Allowing refugees into the
United States has worked before; it is difficult to come into the U.S. as a refugee, and it is humane to
help others.

A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Bech Essay
This memoir about a boy soldier was very condescending. This was a true story for the author,

old African boy who lived in Sierra Leone Africa who fled attacking rebels due to a civil war in his
country, who wandered into different villages trying to avoid the violence that seemed almost
inevitable. He sauntered along with his brother and friends who scraped by day by day scavenging for

When Ishmael Beah was back in Sierra Leone, his villages were taken over by a rebellious group and
slaughtered his family along with others. He traveled for days with his brother and friend and then was
taken and transformed into a boy soldier who was convinced to seek revenge on the death of his own
family. This book really shows the transformation in him when he s in New York in the middle of a
mob of protestors and must restrain himself from anger. When he s put into this position, he tries not
to remember the time when he was a soldier and hold back those feelings in his inner self. What
Ishmael Beah wants us to know is that people can change no matter the struggles and it takes fight and
courage despite the events that have happened in your past. In the first chapter, Beah starts off with an
allusion about a movie called Rambo: First Blood. He was sharing his knowledge on what he knew
about war and that this movie was the only thing he knew and what happens in war. In the text he
says, The only wars I knew of were those... (p. 5). The author uses this device to show us how much
he really knew about war only being 10 years old. The only thing he knew about war was from what
he s read and watched about Rambo. He chooses an allusion because it is something that most
audience members can refer to and can comprehend the same knowledge that Beah had when he was

Credit Score, And Why Is It Important For Your Future...
What is your credit score, and why is it important for your future success?
Describe and demonstrate knowledge of credit scores
The word credit has its origins on the Latin word credere , meaning to place one s heart; to trust,
believe (http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/us).
A credit score is a number between 300 and 850 that shows lenders the capacity of a borrower to repay
loans (http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/us). The FICO score was first introduced in 1989 by FICO,
then called Fair, Isaac, and Company (source). VantageScore exists as a competitor of FICO score
since 2006.
It s been said that capacity was reputation based in the past mouth to mouth which made it hard to
judge fairly a person because business owners and lenders used to take into account the character of a
person (specific habits, etc). So the concept of credit score was invented as a way of making fair
decisions for lenders to improve business decisions.
It consist on formulas that evolve with time that are based on the information of millions of consumers
from three key areas of their credit reports: your credit accounts and repayment information (including
credit cards, auto loans, student loans, mortgages and rent), public records (such as tax liens,
collections or bankruptcies) and inquiries (requests by lenders to access your credit information when
you apply for credit). (www.chase.com).
There are three national credit bureaus in the U.S. that capture, update and store credit

Virginia Woolf s Orlando Is A Work That Bends The Rules...
Virginia Woolf s Orlando is a work that bends the rules in multiple ways. It plays with the idea of
biographies, it questions the nature of fiction writing, it incorporates humor in bizarre ways. And on
top of all that it brings into view certain controversial topics, and certain prejudices of Woolf s time.
The two prejudices this paper will be focusing on are homophobia and sexism. By looking at the
character of Orlando and examining his/her relationships, romantic feelings, and place in society, we
can clearly see Woolf writing back against society s prejudices and fears of the 1920s. In a society of
gender roles and sexuality closely monitored and defined, Woolf creates something unexpected,
unacceptable (in some people s eyes), and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Woolf never blatantly states that any of the characters in Orlando are homosexual. Instead she uses
almost mischievous undertones to hint the fact to her readers. This can be found right at the beginning
of the novel, when Orlando meets Sasha. Orlando is unable to tell whether Sasha is a man or a
woman, for her height and her clothes make her appear androgynous. Orlando is attracted to Sasha as
an individual, entirely separate from the fact about her gender (Kao, 2). One of the main arguments of
the homosexual movement is to see people as people, not as men and women. An individual can love
whoever he/she wants no matter what their sex. It is not about a person s gender, it is about the person
him/herself. And though our narrator later does tell us that Orlando was ready to tear his hair with
vexation that the person was of his own sex..., we don t forget those mischievous undertones Woolf
threw at us upon their first meeting (Woolf, 17). Right off the bat, Woolf is introducing us to a
character who is embracing this idea of individualistic love, and hinting at relationships that may not
be heterosexual. Woolf is fighting against the idea of being attracted to a person because of their sex,
and welcoming the idea of being attracted to someone as an individual.
We can also see homosexual undertones in the relationship between Orlando and the Archduchess

Essay On Francisco Goya
Francisco Goya is one of the most remarkable artists of the eighteenth century. Born in the village of
Fuendetodos in Spain, Goya grew up to become an inspirational painter after pursuing his studies in
art. Goya began working for the Spanish royal court and created several works that were a criticism to
the political and social problems of the contemporary era. He won several commissions from the royal
court after establishing his esteem as a portrait artist. During the period of enlightenment, the artistic
works of Goya were prominent throughout Spain. Goya introduced royal workshops, which spanned
over four monarchies. He painted several cartoons and haunting scenes for the royal palaces. Goya s
tapestries glorify the leisure activities of the young, rich and poor. His etchings are a resemblance of
the royal elite class. Most of Goya s paintings capture the sensitivity of artistic techniques through

Telling A False Statement On Voice Spectrum
Research Plan:
The rationale of this project is to test and experiment on the idea that your voice spectrum is affected
when you lie, to gain further knowledge on how to prevent and detect liars. As human beings, most of
us lie more than we want to think we do. Lying is considered a wrong doing and given time to think
most liars recognize it, but some of the first concerns among humans is self preservation, self esteem,
and dodging consequences or dangerous situations. People lie verbally and nonverbally through body
language, facial expressions, etc. A person s voice can demonstrate aspects of their inner feelings
which can help researchers in recognizing cues in someone s voice towards their emotional state and
in making robots that have abilities to allow it to become constructive in our society, doing tasks like
detecting deception. Understanding the basic concept of lying, how, and why people do it can assist
engineers, and scientists to better protect our nation from deceit and to expand onto the idea of voice

Analysis Of Altruism In The Fountainhead
Adapting Egoism over Altruism: Equality s Escape from Collectivism
No creator was prompted by a desire to serve his brothers, for his brothers rejected the gift he offered
and that gift destroyed the slothful routine of their lives (Rand, The Fountainhead). As described in the
novel The Fountainhead, history has shown to repeat itself by punishing the inventors of new objects
that go against societal normalities. This is evident with Equality 7 2521, the protagonist in Ayn Rand
s book Anthem. Set in a future free of technology, Anthem depicts a man s struggle to free himself
from collectivism. In the novel, society has put strict rules in place to ensure members are controlled
and free from independent thought. Equality acknowledges these rules throughout the book yet still
breaks them to pursue his passion for learning and inventing. Equality s decision to put his own
interests before society s ultimately leads to his liberation. During the book, Equality internally
struggles between doing what is morally right for society and following what he wants. In the city,
rules and expectations are put in place to eliminate individuality. One of these, mentioned in another
piece by Rand, The Fountainhead, is the idea of Altruism, the doctrine which demands that man live
for others and place others above oneself (Rand, The Fountainhead). This eventually leads to men
[having] been taught dependence as a virtue (Rand, The Fountainhead). She further elaborates how
society has implemented Altruism as an excuse to eliminate individuality rather than using it as a tool
to genuinely help others. Since this concept is preached to everyone their whole life, they grow up
only knowing altruism and don t know what individuality is or how they can express it. However,
Equality begins to question the idea of helping others before himself and debates between doing his
undesirable street sweeping job for the city or pursuing his quest for knowledge. Although he would
much rather learn new material, he still feels obligated to carry out his role in the society. This proves
how what he has been taught holds him back from achieving his goal, as Equality is initially confused
on what to do and hesitates. Even though the

Characteristics Of A Public And Public Good
A good can either be a private good or public good. Two factors define the characteristics of a private
or public good. The characteristics that define a good are its excludability, the ability the consumption
a good has on future consumption for others, and whether or not its rivalrous, the effect consumption
of a good has on quantity of future consumption. In broad terms, a private good would be excludable
and rivalrous, and a public good would be nonexcludable and nonrivalrous. When we look closer at
public goods we see there are several types.
A Pure public good is defined as having several characteristics. Those characteristics include being a
nonexcludable good and a nonrival good. A nonexcludable good means person A s consumption of a
good does not harm person B s consumption of the good. Person B will still be able to consume the
good. One person s use won t restrict another s. To be a nonrival good is to be a good that can be
consumed by person A without reducing the amount left for person B or others. A nonrival good can
be used over and over again with no additional cost. The defining characteristic of a public good is
that consumption of it by one individual does not actually or potentially reduce the amount available
to be consumed by another individual. (Garvelle and Rees). WiFi can fit into the category quite nicely
on certain circumstances. It can be classified as a social good. A social good is a public good that

The conflict is now in its thirteenth year. There are several factors that are responsible for this increase
in escalation. Most importantly, stability inducing characteristics are lacking. Social bonds, a balance
of power, and national institutions and forums are absent, eliminating stability as a foreseeable
outcome. Escalation is most likely when there is an imbalance of power and when parties have high
aspirations. In cartels, kingpins and lords are replaced when one is murdered or arrested. Similarly, in

Through this, aspects of a culture legitimize direct violence. Narcoculture, previously discussed as the
glorification of the lifestyles of the drug traffickers, is an example of this. The movies, television
shows, and music idolize the ways of the drug traffickers. They are depicted as wealthy, powerful,
machismo men with fast cars, private jets, and many beautiful women. As this is the reality of high
ranking officials, it worships the lifestyle without portraying the methods used to acquire it.
Kidnapping, murder, and extortion are downplayed, if shown at all. This makes the lifestyle appear

Changes of Police Culture
Introduction
The New Zealand Police is the lead agency responsible for helping the community to decrease or
reduce crime, corruption and improve the responsibility of safety and protection in New Zealand.
There is a need to make changes to the police culture in order to improve the performance of their
organisation. However there are three fundamental errors that need to be addressed which will be
discussed in this essay. Firstly, there is a lack of an established sense of urgency which has the
potential to jeopardize the future of the organization. Secondly is, not creating a powerful enough
guiding coalition which means there is a lack of communication which resulted in an absence of
leadership and teamwork from frontline staff to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Poor performing staff pretending to look good and act professionally for national headquarters but
behind that they have poor performance. Senior staff and headquarter were lacking the confidence of
communicating and manage performance effectively. No matter how capable or dedicate the staff head
groups without line leadership never achieve the power is required. (Kotter 2007). An absence of
leadership was due to a leader not fully committed or works with the staff to accomplish the
organisation mission. Howard Broad was the commissioner of the police organisation at that time
when the rape allegations against few police officers took place. This could be of poor leadership not
having a better communication with the staff could be the causation of these problems and so a little
commitment early in the change process ended nothing happens or changes in the end.
Undercommunicating the Vision by a Factor of Ten.
This error of undercommunication the vision is linked to the one above, due to all the poor
communication. Kotter explain three patterns relates to this, that a company develops a good vision,
communicates in a single venture but nobody understands, second, managers make vision but the staff
still don t get it and the last one is that managers and high leaders still acting and

Whiplash Sparknotes
People want to be surrounded by other people. Nobody wants to be worthless. These two factors are
what drive people to sacrifice themselves in order to belong. They sacrifice who they are because they
need, not want, validation in their lives: a sense of belonging. Humans are social animals. They
evolved to be social after discovering that the burden of work could be offset by dividing it with other
people, otherwise known as working together. So if a person is in a group, it is in their best interest to
stay in that group. Not everyone likes each other though, so to avoid being kicked out, one s next best
interest is to keep good relations. The simplest way to do this is to follow basic social rules: etiquette.
Since the rules are set by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People want meaning and subsistence in their lives. Some people want it more than others to varying
degrees. In the film, Whiplash, Andrew Neiman is a young jazz drummer who strives to become the
best. In one of the scenes, Neiman is eating dinner with his family; the family praise his brothers, who
are star football players, but scoff at Neiman s achievements in band. This causes Neiman to feel
discontent. Thus he begins his ambitious pursuit at becoming the best drummer. He dumps his
girlfriend, turns his back on his family, and ultimately pushes himself to the brink of his ability and
sanity: all for what? Neiman wants to prove not to his family, but to everyone that he belongs on the
drum kit. He is willing to sacrifice everything just to prove that. In another film, The Social Network,
socially estranged Mark Zuckerberg has the extreme desire to be part of the high class of society. He
gets in an argument with his only friend, Eduardo Saverin, over a business deal for Facebook.
Zuckerberg asks him if they want to go back to being a joke. Zuckerberg ultimately alienates him by
removing him off the credits of Facebook. In this scenario, Zuckerberg sacrifices his friend so he can
continue to chase his fantasy of belonging to the high class. In both cases, the two main characters
sacrificed a part of them because they believed they could be something greater from it kind of like

  • 2. Reconstruction Of The American Civil War Minkyo Seo May 26, 2016 Reconstruction As the American Civil War came to a close, the United States started to revamp the country, during what became known as the Reconstruction Era. Throughout this Period of time (1865 1877), the authorities attempted to fix America politically, economically, and physically. The United States unfortunately faced struggles, when people were evidently unable to adapt themselves to the era. As a result of bringing an attempt to come back from the defeat, the result was insufficient. This clearly shows that the Reconstruction Era was certainly not a success because the changes created by the government failed to make positive changes to society. There were numerous of conflicts in The Civil War and Problems the Nation was Faced with that led up to the reconstruction. One of the origins of the war was Sectionalism. Sectionalism is the devotion to the interests of one geographic region over interests of the country in whole. This ultimately led to the union s worst crisis; Civil War between the North and the South in the early 1860s (Cornfield). • 5. My Dorm Room With Style Let s face it dorm rooms can be depressing. Many of them are small, cramped, and devoid of any style or life. And since you only live in them for nine months before moving on, it can feel pointless to spend any real time decorating your space. While dorms have all sorts of restrictions that prevent you from going wild with your décor, it is possible to decorate your dorm room with style that goes beyond a few random posters on the wall. Follow these simple tips and ideas to infuse your dorm room with style and enjoy your school year. Choose a Color Palette In college, it s easy to decorate your dorm room as you go, collecting an array of pieces that don t really add up to much of anything. To give your dorm room a cohesive look, choose a color palette that you love and use it as a guide when choosing accessories. If you don t have a favorite hue, think of your favorite places or moods. Deep blues and greens can invoke the sea and promote calm, while reds and oranges invite a spicy flair that can awake and excite you. Don t go overboard in your color scheme, however, or you may start to feel closed in rather than enjoy it. Organize your dorm room around one or two main colors and accessorize in smaller ways with accent colors. Key pieces in your dorm room you can decorate are the bedding, desk chair, lamp, clock, or even some accessory pieces on a desk or shelf. Be sure to inject splashes of a complimentary color within the room to keep it from feeling too one note. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Hacienda Luisita Inequality It all started in the year 1521 during the Spanish Colonization period. When the Spaniards settled in Manila they conquered almost everything; from our culture to our lands. One of those lands is the well known Hacienda Luisita, named after Luisa, the wife of a Spanish man who first owned it. When the Philippines was freed from colonial rule, the Hacienda Luisita was eventually bought by the Cojuangco family. This is where the controversy started and where the battle began between the small farmers, who just wanted to distribute the Hacienda equally, and the Cojuangco family, who refused. According to them, they will be able to give parts of the land should there be any tenants, but the family has officially stated that there were no tenants in the Hacienda, therefore no one to distribute the land to, despite the presence of the farmers. This decision still continues to be the subject of criticism even in the present, cited as one of the many examples of inequality in the country. Inequality has always been a never ending trend topic in the Philippines, and we can see that there is indeed widespread inequality throughout the country today, defined in sociology as the existence of unequal opportunities and rewards for different social positions or statuses within a group or society. This desert abode served as host for early prehistoric inhabitants, Native Americans, early pioneers, Spanish miners, and presently outdoor enthusiasts. Adventurists have the opportunity to explore over 800 miles of intertwining roads that braid the landscape. Gold Butte has remained one of Mojave s most precious secrets for decades. This elegant desert hides only an hour and a half drive east of Las Vegas and just south of Mesquite Nevada. Gold Butte s ecosystem is comprised of diverse organisms, many of which are sacred and protected plants and animals. Joshua trees sit nestled deep in the mineral enriched sand, while the bighorn sheep and tortoise roam the vast desert terrain. The almost 350,000 acres of public land is sculpted with rugged mountains, sandstone outcroppings, yucca forests, slot canyons, and flat top mesas. Is it possible that a place with such a unique array of wildlife and history can exist and remain a secret? Unfortunately, due to many factors over the past 20 years, Gold Butte has been on center stage, but not just for tourism. The technological uses of smart phones, GPS, digital maps, internet, and even social websites have made it inherently impossible to keep public lands a secret. • 11. American Prejudice iv. Prejudice can demean and destroy the lives of people. Discuss. Prejudice have been prevalent throughout human history. Prejudice is the inflexible and irrational attitudes and opinions held by members of one group about another. It predisposes us to behave negatively toward certain people because of a group to which they belong. And when prejudice reaches the intensity of hatred, it becomes bigotry. It is easy to view ancient racist or sexist attitudes as patently absurd and to denounce them, yet often we do not acknowledge current widespread prejudices that future generations may find just as incongruous. With regard to discriminatory actions, Allport (1979) identified five negative behaviors caused by prejudice: (1) verbal abuse against ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We do this by (4) limiting our interactions with people from racial or ethnic groups other than our own. Measuring attitudes about avoiding others was the focus of research by Bogardus; this study used a Social Distance Scale in which people encounter a list of racial, ethnic, and religious groups and are asked to rank them in order of preference (Schaefer, 2008). People consistently reveal a preference for those groups most like their own, and they have less regard for people from groups they perceive as least like themselves. Another way to avoid certain groups is (5) to engage in or condone discrimination in such areas as education, employment, and housing. To illustrate this behavior, consider how people choose what sort of neighborhood they want to live in. In the 1960s, when courts ordered urban school districts to desegregate, many school administrators responded by busing students to different schools, a controversial solution that caused massive movement of white families from urban neighborhoods to racially segregated suburbs, the white flight phenomenon. Despite the passage of the 1968 National Fair Housing Act, studies have documented the preference of most white Americans to live in racially segregated neighborhoods (Farley, 2005; Massey, ... • 12. Freire The Banking Concept Of Education Summary Effective Thinking: Becoming a Critical Thinker Students in today s academic world are simply lazy. Who has time to sit down and critically analyze what is needed to be studied when there are better things to do? In Freire s The Banking Concept of Education, he delineates the concept of how students today are considered banking concept thinkers rather than where they should be, which is problem posing thinking. Ultimately, Freire s argument helps recognize how to transform oneself into becoming a critical thinker. Both the banking concept student and the problem posing student have completely distinctive factors about them. The banking concept student in term is emphasizes that students are passive absorbers of information and that the purpose of learning is memorization of facts. This reinforces a lack of critical thinking and knowledge ownership in students, which in turn reinforces oppression. One possible alternative is the Problem posing education model, in which students are encouraged to think and tackle problems presented to them on their own. Problem posing education solves the student teacher contradiction by recognizing that knowledge is not deposited from one to another, but is instead formulated through dialogue between the two. As illustrated in Freire s Pedagogy of the Oppressed, his image of the average student is categorized into two parts: the banking concept student, and the problem posing student. Freire believes that most students are part of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. The Transportation Industry Does Not Have A Great Impact... Transportation is an important sector that drives economic activities within and outside the state. Although transportation as a sector does not bring in significant revenues to the economy of Arizona, it does assist the smooth operation of other industries such as manufacturing, tourism, agriculture and mining. Without roads, rail, and airports, it would be difficult to move goods and services from one part of Arizona to another. Arizona s transportation industry does not have a great impact on its economy because the state is largely used as a transit hub. More than half of the freight that comes into Arizona originated from outside, rests for some few days and moved to their destinations in other states. This means that the Arizona state government can only gain relatively small revenues from the freight may be in the form of storage charges, repackaging, and accommodation for truck drivers. The remaining 50% of freight is intra state implying that no money is brought in from outside Arizona. Transportation sector acts as a vital factor in attracting investors because modern businesses critically examine the transport infrastructure before deciding whether to relocate or not. For instance, manufacturing companies depend on well established road and rail network to move large volumes of bulk freight. Some also rely on the trucking to move containerized freight on highways with low congestion levels. Question 2 Arizona depends on the international trade for economic ... • 30. A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Bech Essay This memoir about a boy soldier was very condescending. This was a true story for the author, Ishmael Beah and his life changing events that occurred in his past. Ishamel Beah was a twelve year old African boy who lived in Sierra Leone Africa who fled attacking rebels due to a civil war in his country, who wandered into different villages trying to avoid the violence that seemed almost inevitable. He sauntered along with his brother and friends who scraped by day by day scavenging for food and struggled for survival. In the fifth chapter of the book, Beah describes the struggles he went through by saying, ...our joints weakened and ached (p. 30). When Ishmael Beah was back in Sierra Leone, his villages were taken over by a rebellious group and slaughtered his family along with others. He traveled for days with his brother and friend and then was taken and transformed into a boy soldier who was convinced to seek revenge on the death of his own family. This book really shows the transformation in him when he s in New York in the middle of a mob of protestors and must restrain himself from anger. When he s put into this position, he tries not to remember the time when he was a soldier and hold back those feelings in his inner self. What Ishmael Beah wants us to know is that people can change no matter the struggles and it takes fight and courage despite the events that have happened in your past. In the first chapter, Beah starts off with an allusion about a movie called Rambo: First Blood. He was sharing his knowledge on what he knew about war and that this movie was the only thing he knew and what happens in war. In the text he says, The only wars I knew of were those... (p. 5). The author uses this device to show us how much he really knew about war only being 10 years old. The only thing he knew about war was from what he s read and watched about Rambo. He chooses an allusion because it is something that most audience members can refer to and can comprehend the same knowledge that Beah had when he was taken from the Rebels. • 31. Credit Score, And Why Is It Important For Your Future... What is your credit score, and why is it important for your future success? Describe and demonstrate knowledge of credit scores The word credit has its origins on the Latin word credere , meaning to place one s heart; to trust, believe (http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/us). A credit score is a number between 300 and 850 that shows lenders the capacity of a borrower to repay loans (http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/us). The FICO score was first introduced in 1989 by FICO, then called Fair, Isaac, and Company (source). VantageScore exists as a competitor of FICO score since 2006. It s been said that capacity was reputation based in the past mouth to mouth which made it hard to judge fairly a person because business owners and lenders used to take into account the character of a person (specific habits, etc). So the concept of credit score was invented as a way of making fair decisions for lenders to improve business decisions. It consist on formulas that evolve with time that are based on the information of millions of consumers from three key areas of their credit reports: your credit accounts and repayment information (including credit cards, auto loans, student loans, mortgages and rent), public records (such as tax liens, collections or bankruptcies) and inquiries (requests by lenders to access your credit information when you apply for credit). • 32. Virginia Woolf s Orlando Is A Work That Bends The Rules... Virginia Woolf s Orlando is a work that bends the rules in multiple ways. It plays with the idea of biographies, it questions the nature of fiction writing, it incorporates humor in bizarre ways. And on top of all that it brings into view certain controversial topics, and certain prejudices of Woolf s time. The two prejudices this paper will be focusing on are homophobia and sexism. By looking at the character of Orlando and examining his/her relationships, romantic feelings, and place in society, we can clearly see Woolf writing back against society s prejudices and fears of the 1920s. In a society of gender roles and sexuality closely monitored and defined, Woolf creates something unexpected, unacceptable (in some people s eyes), and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Woolf never blatantly states that any of the characters in Orlando are homosexual. Instead she uses almost mischievous undertones to hint the fact to her readers. This can be found right at the beginning of the novel, when Orlando meets Sasha. Orlando is unable to tell whether Sasha is a man or a woman, for her height and her clothes make her appear androgynous. Orlando is attracted to Sasha as an individual, entirely separate from the fact about her gender (Kao, 2). One of the main arguments of the homosexual movement is to see people as people, not as men and women. An individual can love whoever he/she wants no matter what their sex. It is not about a person s gender, it is about the person him/herself. And though our narrator later does tell us that Orlando was ready to tear his hair with vexation that the person was of his own sex..., we don t forget those mischievous undertones Woolf threw at us upon their first meeting (Woolf, 17). Right off the bat, Woolf is introducing us to a character who is embracing this idea of individualistic love, and hinting at relationships that may not be heterosexual. Woolf is fighting against the idea of being attracted to a person because of their sex, and welcoming the idea of being attracted to someone as an individual. We can also see homosexual undertones in the relationship between Orlando and the Archduchess ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Analysis Of Altruism In The Fountainhead Adapting Egoism over Altruism: Equality s Escape from Collectivism No creator was prompted by a desire to serve his brothers, for his brothers rejected the gift he offered and that gift destroyed the slothful routine of their lives (Rand, The Fountainhead). As described in the novel The Fountainhead, history has shown to repeat itself by punishing the inventors of new objects that go against societal normalities. This is evident with Equality 7 2521, the protagonist in Ayn Rand s book Anthem. Set in a future free of technology, Anthem depicts a man s struggle to free himself from collectivism. In the novel, society has put strict rules in place to ensure members are controlled and free from independent thought. Equality acknowledges these rules throughout the book yet still breaks them to pursue his passion for learning and inventing. Equality s decision to put his own interests before society s ultimately leads to his liberation. During the book, Equality internally struggles between doing what is morally right for society and following what he wants. In the city, rules and expectations are put in place to eliminate individuality. One of these, mentioned in another piece by Rand, The Fountainhead, is the idea of Altruism, the doctrine which demands that man live for others and place others above oneself (Rand, The Fountainhead). This eventually leads to men [having] been taught dependence as a virtue (Rand, The Fountainhead). She further elaborates how society has implemented Altruism as an excuse to eliminate individuality rather than using it as a tool to genuinely help others. Since this concept is preached to everyone their whole life, they grow up only knowing altruism and don t know what individuality is or how they can express it. However, Equality begins to question the idea of helping others before himself and debates between doing his undesirable street sweeping job for the city or pursuing his quest for knowledge. Although he would much rather learn new material, he still feels obligated to carry out his role in the society. This proves how what he has been taught holds him back from achieving his goal, as Equality is initially confused on what to do and hesitates. Even though the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most importantly, stability inducing characteristics are lacking. Social bonds, a balance of power, and national institutions and forums are absent, eliminating stability as a foreseeable outcome.
