Vietnam War vs. Greasy Lake War in T.C. Boyle s Short...
Sudden and Ironic events that happen to the narrator in T.C. Boyle s short story Greasy Lake are the
same type of events that in an instant will change a person forever. The ironic circumstances that the
narrator in Greasy Lake finds himself in are the same circumstances that young people find
themselves in when fighting war. The viewpoint of the world that the narrator has, completely alters as
certain events take place throughout the story. His outlook on nature transforms into a wholly different
standpoint as the story progresses. As his tale begins, the narrator sees himself as a tough guy or bad
character . He believes he is invincible. There is nobody as cool as he is or as dangerous as him and
his friends are. With his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The kids in the story are 19 years old, it takes place the summer after their first year of college.
College is the reason kids of that age are at Greasy lake and not fighting in war. The outlook the
narrator has on life before his experience at Greasy lake is the same attitude kids going into war had.
His perception of the world after what happens at Greasy lake is the same perception men who have
fought in battle and seen death have. Nothing about life is the same for the narrator after all that
happens to him at Greasy lake. Nothing in life is ever the same for the young kids who fought and got
caught up in the stupidity of war during Vietnam. Much of the story relates to the Vietnam war. We
were nineteen. We were bad. We read Andre Gide and struck elaborate poses to show that we didn t
give a shit about anything. At night we went up to Greasy Lake. The attitude the speaker of these
words has is the same attitude the cocky, nineteen year old kids had as they went off to fight war. I
wanted to get out of the car and retch, I wanted to go home to my parents house and crawl into bed.
The honesty and fear spoken with these words symbolize the change of attitude the young Vietnam
soldiers had after experiencing the horrors of war. The characters in Greasy Lake learn that they are
not tough bad characters but scared children who are alone and lost in the world, the kids who fought
battle in Vietnam went

Hamlet Feature Article
Write a review of Hamlet based on a viewing, whereby you ponder the question of the text s enduring
relevance. A news feature based on the play where having seen the play, you analyse why the play
remains relevant to modern audiences. In itself becomes a text of textual integrity. How do people
value it? Discuss some aspects that you would argue to allow the text to view it as something
engaging and valuable. Hamlet Through Time Hamlet. Not just your typical revenge tragedy, but
something deeper, and more than able to rival the likes of Desperate Housewives , despite it s age.
What the audience gets with the play, Hamlet, is a storyline that is complex and intricate, a plot that is
interwoven with tales of love, betrayal, murder and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the main character, Hamlet presents the audience with an image of the renaissance man, one who
offers insights into how one might deal with complex emotions such as love and grief. The audience
follows Hamlet on his journey to avenge his father s death, which was brought about by his late father
s brother, Claudius, the current reigning king. The story clearly centres around the ever hesitant prince
and his struggle to enact his revenge. It is Hamlet s procrastination and inability to act that drives the
story to its disastrously orchestrated end. Despite all his faults, the audience
feels a sense of affection for the young prince and connect with him on a level that is unavailable
with the other characters. It is in this connection that the interest of the audience is captured, such that
one can almost experience his joy and his grief, or his jealousy and love, all things that are
encountered by modern day humans. All the choices that Hamlet makes, allows the audience to
understand his character a little better. No doubt, this is the result of good acting and excellent play
writing, however, there is an element of value that only time brings. Another character that must be
examined, is the aforementioned, Ophelia. Stuck in an Elizabethan world where misogynism is the
norm and women don t have a say, Ophelia is subject to the will of the men in her life. She is chastised
by her brother and father for her relationship

The Impact Of Public Transport On Rural And Sustainable...
4. Financial Analysis
4.1 Introduction
Today the role of public transport is perceived very seriously in terms of urban mobility and
sustainable development, but even though the financial resources available are insufficient. Acquiring
appropriate financing mechanisms is not only imperative for the development of transport system but
also for the holistic growth of urban pockets.
The local government all over the world face financial constraints due to disparity between costs and
revenues. Many urban planners think that revenues cannot be covered from fare box alone. Indian
cities are also facing the same challenges. But due to some funding through JnNURM the city officials
find some relief in procuring buses of high standards like present in developed countries.
There are two types of costs associated with transport system: one is capital cost and other is operating
cost. Capital cost constitutes of infrastructural support, procurement of buses, and construction of bus
stations. Whereas operating cost includes expenses incurred in fuel, technological services, salaries to
operators of buses, and upgrading buses to better quality with time. Hence financial aspect takes a big
role, because without investment of money, a huge infrastructural project is not possible. Other
dilemma which urban planners face is setting correct fares in order to attract maximum users and save
the system to run into losses.
In this section of my case study, I focus upon the financial burden of

Taking a Look at Bolivia
Bolivia is an amazing country, rich in culture, tourism, and history. Located in western central South
America, Bolivia is bordered by Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, Peru, and Chile. Bolivia is divided into 3
very diverse regions, the Andean region, that s surrounded by mountain ranges and has the highest
altitude in Bolivia, the sub Andean region, that s distinguished by its farming activities, and the llanos
region, that s surrounded by rainforest and is very bio diverse. Although Bolivia has seen many great
advances over the last few years, poverty, political instability, and drug trafficking continue to be
issues that the country faces. In the next couple of paragraphs I m going to talk about poverty in
Bolivia, and how it has caused an epidemic of malnutrition children, I m then going to narrow the
topic down by talking about Bolivia s child mortality rates and healthcare system, and the problems
with healthcare access, I m going to talk about Bolivia s lack of access to food security and sanitation,
and lastly I m going to talk about the benefits that the popularity of the Bolivian crop quinoa has had
on Bolivian nutrition.
Bolivia history and poverty
Since the end of the Napoleonic wars and the establishment of Bolivia s independence from Spanish
rule in 1825, Bolivia has endured a violent and unstable past with close to 200 overthrows of the
government and several rewrites of the constitution. Thought out history, the people of Bolivia faced

Family Guy Evaluation Argument.
Family guy is one of the most famous adult TV animation at the moment. The show is based on an
American Family living in Rhode Island. The father of the family is called Peter Griffin and the
mother is called Lois. The parents have two teenage kids, namely Chris and Meg. They also have a
dog named Brian. The dog is particularly smart. The family has also adopted a mutant baby called
Stewie who is always trying to get rid of his parents and the children. However, Family guy is by far
the worst TV show to ever hit our screens if evaluated in terms of the quality of picture/animation, its
lack of content that can build a person and its constant use of racial and negative stereotypes ... Show

Family Guy has been marked as racist in its delivery. The examples for this are endless. Each of the
over 2000 Family Guy episodes has some kind of racial joke. An example is an episode featuring
Brian on a date with an African American woman. The date is filled with racist jokes right from the
moment they met. Brian starts by commenting on the color of her skin saying it s a very lovely color.
When the woman introduces herself as Mrs. Parks, Brian comments, like Rosa Parks. On top of that,
during the date, Brian says he loves all black people and if he could take all the black people in the
world, he would buy a farm and let them all just run free (YouTube). Another example features a bar
scene with a horse and an African American man mocking each other. The horse asks rhetorically why
there are very few African American baseball players. He continues to state that is because they are
always stealing bases. Moreover, one week prior to Martin Luther King Day, the show did a skit
showing Martin as a lazy and ignorant janitor who loves to eat fried chicken and watermelons. He
then talks to his boss in an awkward old age black accent. (Gildemeister). African American people
are not the only target of their racism. The show also does racist and stereotype jokes on Asians,
Vietnamese, Africans, Mexicans, Canadians, and Indians among others. An example is a quote by
Peter Griffin where he

Alimony Spousal Support
Spousal support, or alimony, is based on an outdated social tradition that it is a man s responsibility to
support women because they are weaker, incapable of being equal to men, and better equipped to raise
children. However, this is not the case in today s society and our alimony laws need to be changed to
reflect modern times.
Spousal support traces its roots back to a time when divorce was considered rare and indissoluble. As
a result, a husband and wife remained married even after they had been physically separated. Since the
marriage was permanently binding, a husband still maintained a financial obligation to his wife, even
if they didn t live together. This is the reason why spousal support is almost always associated with a

However, with the advent of the women s rights movement as well as the current feminist era, women
have gained greater independence and opportunities not available to previous generations. Ca Fam
Code §4320 is fast becoming obsolete, and as a result, has become discriminatory towards men.
In the case of Orr v. Orr 440 U.S. 268 (1979), an Alabama man was ordered to pay alimony to his ex
wife pursuant to Alabama statues which stated that husbands, not wives, are required to pay alimony
upon divorce. The man appealed to the Alabama Court of Appeals, insisting that his constitutional
rights had been violated. The State of Alabama sustained the constitutionality of the statues and the
man then decided to appeal to the United States Supreme Court, where the State s decision was then
reversed and remanded. The man argued that the gender based scheme for alimony violated the equal
protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. The Court ruled on the basis that the State s
preference for wives having a dependent role to husbands in family responsibilities was not
substantially related to the important governmental objectives of assisting needy spouses (using sex as
a proxy for need) and removing disparity in economic conditions between men and women.
Additionally, the Court ruled that it was no longer feasible to compensate women based on the notion
that marriage left them unprepared to support themselves following a divorce.

The First Evolution Of Astronomy
Astronomy is one of the oldest sciences which is the study of celestial objects, the physics , chemistry,
evolutions and especially in the discovery and observation of transient phenomena that originate
outside the Earth.
Astronomy has seen 3 scientific revolutions in cosmology. The first evolution is initiated by Claudius
Ptolemy in the 2nd Century uses the Physics of Aristotle to demonstrate the model of Earth centered
cosmology. At that time , we had to use different laws for Earth and the cosmos which was not unified.
Ptolemy s system predicts planet locations precisely in hundred years until the European Renaissance
( XVI and XVII ), due to the contributions of Issac Newton, Johannes Kepler and Galileo Galilei in
physics, Heliocentric (Sun centered) model was initiated by Nicolaus Copernicus was then being
accepted. Recently, by the developments of technology and the breakthrough of modern physics,
Edwin Hubble had succeeded in publishing a new theory : Big Bang Theory(based on the Physics of
Einstein).
Observations on the expansion of the universe is one of the prerequisites for building up the model of
the evolution of the universe s most widely recognized today, the Big Bang model.

The hot Big Bang (standard) cosmology will likely be viewed as one of the intellectual triumphs of the
twentieth century. It provides a tested account of the Universe from a fraction of a second after the

matter is internal impact or external impact in hospitality industry.
For the internal impact, Kitchen Brigade System is developed in hotels and restaurants. This system is
a new kitchen technology that created by a visionary chef, Auguste Escoffier. He modeled his Kitchen
Brigade System on the military hierarchy so that the work can be divided among knowledge
specialists and made more efficient through the division of labor. The productivity of restaurants may
also increase at the same time. Under this system, each position has a station and own responsibility.
The general hierarchy is included:
i. Chef
Chef is in charge of the entire kitchen. He prepares menu, purchases food and conducts everything that
goes on in the kitchen.
ii. Sous Chef
In French, sous means under . Sous chef is the chef s deputy chef. He takes his orders directly from

Kamehameha was not next in line to be an alii of any Hawaiian island, however throughout his life
when he was a warrior, at the end of the tremendous wars, he was king. Although Kamehameha would
be fierce, his task of ending the undying civil wars among the island chiefs demanded strong
leadership, he led his people in peace and war. Malala Yousafzai was a young girl in Pakistan who

Kamehameha got what he needed by communicating and bartering. Kamehameha and his men traded
with sandalwood for tea, rum, and weapons. They got many things out of it (Potter, Kasdon, Rayson

Taliban Take my Basic Right to Education? (Blumberg, Britannica). Kamehameha helped others
differently from how Yousafzai helped children. Kamehameha made a two laws, one was stating don t
cut down young trees until it is older in order to conserve that natural resource and the other one was
called mamalahoe, if there was robbery and murders they people would be put to death. With these
laws this would make it better for his kingdom. When Yousafzai was 18, she helped the children by
creating a school for them and she made a fund account (Biography). This gave the children education
that the Taliban s took away from them. Kamehameha and Yousafzai had differences on how they

Art Marks should vote to make an investment in Telco Exchange because the company possesses
many of the components which could make it a potential 67 million dollar company (from our
valuation by DCF method using WACC Appendix A). Telco has a product that solves large company

If they did not vote to invest in Telco, would it not only result in time being wasted both for Telco and
also Valhalla but could also result in letting go of a great investment opportunity.
The Top Three Risks Facing Telco Exchange
One of the major risks facing Telco is their CEO is 70 years old and his son being the CTO could give
rise to a conflict of interest. Bryant Dunetz had agreed to step down and allow Valhalla to search for a
new CEO. This could be a risky endeavor because Dunetz may either refuse to step down after
negotiations or the new CEO may not be a good fit. The other two major risk factors is they do not
have a strong executive management team and their competition in this market space is ramping up
and soon they will not be the top solutions provider for large corporate telecom equipment and
services. With Valhalla having only 25% of the voting rights in the company after the capital issue,
they may not have the ability to force their way with the future management. Meanwhile the average
time of determining success of a venture capital investment is 18 months. Replacing the entire
management team and vetting that process out would take up a significant chunk of that time. Lastly,
Valhalla does have to move quickly to get Telco the capital they need to gain as much market share as
quickly as possible. The

The Modern Plague Of Overpopulation
Unlike plagues of the dark ages or contemporary diseases we do not understand, the modern plague of
overpopulation is soluble by means we have discovered and with resources we possess. What is
lacking is not sufficient knowledge of the solution but universal consciousness of the gravity of the
problem and education of the billions who are its victim. This was said by Martin Luther King, Jr on
May 5, 1966. If this was said almost 49 years ago by one of the greatest leaders of American history,
why hasn t the issue of overpopulation been solved yet? Simply because we lack the universal
consciousness of the serious issues overpopulation bring and the education required on how to prevent
it. The world just can t support every single human being if we continue to ignore the issue. So what
would happen globally if the demand for natural resources is greater than the supply? There will be
conflicts and wars, environmental degradation and climate change. In addition to having a high
demand for natural resources and a low supply, it will also cause a rise in unemployment and raise the
cost of living.
There will be many wars and conflicts to come due to fact that there just won t be enough resources
for everybody. Michael Klare, professor of peace and world security studies at Hampshire College,
and the author, most recently, of The Race for What s Left: The Global Scramble for the World s Last
Resources, informs us that there have been a total of six global conflicts that have

This past weekend witnessed a trifecta of momentous anniversaries. Katrina happened 5 years ago,
Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his I Have a Dream Speech on the Washington Mall 47 years ago,
and Mother Teresa was born a century ago.
Monday: Katrina; Tuesday: I Have a Dream; Today: Mother Teresa
After spending a great deal of time on and devoting a good deal of space to the two previous subjects
in this series on recent anniversaries, 2005 s devastating Hurricane Katrina and the world changing
1963 I Have a Dream speech by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I had looked forward to writing an
innocuous, little piece on one of the two saints I have ever known.
Pope John Paul II was one, Mother Teresa was the other.
Not that I personally met with either the pope or the Catholic nun Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, later to be
known as Mother Teresa, but I felt that a few words commemorating the anniversary of her birth in
Shkoder, Albania on August 26th, 1910 were in order.

The Battle Of Elsenborn Ridge
Battle of Elsenborn Ridge
The winter in the Ardennes is very cold; American Soldiers beaten, bloodied and depleting in
numbers. Germany has massed their best Soldiers from the Twelfth SS Panzer Division fielding the
newest and deadliest Armored Fighting vehicles the world had ever seen. However, the Americans
have an ace in the hole, The United States Army Field Artillery has made some historic and very
deadly innovations. In order to defend the Northern shoulder from being overrun by the 1st SS Panzer
Corps and the 67th Corps, the 405th FA Battalion must utilize their fortified fighting positions to
capitalize on the advancing enemy, synchronize and mass their firing capability, and utilize a newly
developed secret weapon called the Proximity Fuze to prevent the German forces from obtaining a
supply through the Twin Villages.
For seven days, the Battle of Elsenborn Ridge was valorously held by the artillery forces and Infantry
forces of the United States Army. (Starmann R. , 2015). This battle was the greatest crushing victory
of the Ardennes valley and is the only part of the Battle of the Bulge line where the Germans failed to
advance. (Starmann R. , 2015). From this ridge, the United States forces were extremely trenched in.
They used the few days leading up to this battle to maneuver more units to the ridge to help protect the
Germans from securing the two villages. These villages were critical to the Germans because without

Depression In Jane Kenyon s From The Nursery
Depression is a disease that millions of people, including myself live with every day and it can be a
shadow of our existence. It is easy to see why readers are drawn to certain poems such as From The
Nursery. Jane Kenyon s From The Nursery is the first segment of nine in a poem about depression.
When I began to dissect this poem, I learned more about myself and the poet with the way she uses
her line breaks, her use of metaphors and images, style, and word choice. The analysis doesn t begin
with the actual poem but, instead, with the title itself. From The Nursery is the first section. It is the
beginning of a fight with depression that visits and consumes the speaker when she is the most
defenseless. The title is an image that that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It doesn t sew up any loose ends within the other stanzas and it shouldn t. This is just the first section
in an even bigger poem and in a life. It does, however, end with two metaphors and a powerplay.
Kenyon finally tells us point blank who you is if we didn t already know. It is the anti urge, /the
mutilator of souls. It is the thing that makes you not want to be motivated and that makes you lay in
bed all day because you just can t get up. It is the thing that ruins souls to the point that they can never
be the same again. Here is the only point of the poem that I do not agree with Kenyon. While the
metaphor is beautiful, I don t believe that our souls are mutilated. It is quite the opposite. I believe that
we, the people who battle depression, are stronger because of our shadow. We have endured, been
broken, have known hardship, and have lost ourselves at some point. We still stand, still move
forward, and grow stronger each

A Hard Working Woman
Zora Naele Hurston published Sweat in the 1920 s, a piece of literature which narrates the story of a
hard working woman by the name of Delia Jones and her struggles to overcome the oppression of her
abusive husband. As the piece of literature advances, readers can interpret various symbols
incorporated into the writing. Three of the major themes found in this story are domestic abuse,
empowerment, and survival and these are interlinked by symbols such as the pile of white clothes, her
sweat, and the Chinaberry tree. The symbols in the story and the theme together make the story more
powerful and amazing for the readers. In addition, Delia Jones character is a dynamic character that
rises from the ashes from being this character that tolerates Sykes abuse into liberated soul who no
longer lives in fear.

her. She is tired to always being looked as someone useless. Delia tries to stand up for herself and

this era of time it is the way of life that a woman had to be marry because woman were not viewed as
someone who could sustain a life on their own. But Delia knew that was not the case in her marriage.

Atticus Finch Is an Exemplary Father
Atticus Finch, a lawyer and devoted father, is an intelligent man whose wisdom, consistency, and

One of the ways in which he does this is in the means that he rejects insincerity, but instead practices
what he preaches: Atticus is the same in his house as he is on the public streets (51). In a time period
and a town that endorses hypocrisy, Atticus stands for truth, and teaches others by his example that it
is possible for them to do the same. With typical Maycomb influences such as Aunt Alexandra
surrounding Jem and Scout, Atticus s constant genuineness in public and private presents an essential
example if honesty for his children to follow.
Once again, Atticus provides an exemplary example of humbleness in the modest manner of which he
shot the stray dog. Despite having a commendable shooting talent, Atticus chose to keep this hidden,
and was not eager to call attention to it. While Scout does not understand why, Atticus s line of
reasoning is clear to Jem, who now aspires to be a humble and modest gentleman such as his father.
Atticus educates his children in standing up for what they believe in, and influences Jem and Scout to
mature with a strong sense of justice and equality. By accepting Tom Robinson s case, Atticus
provides a clear example of standing up for one s beliefs a model which his children can observe and

Robinson with a chance of a fair trial. He believed that Tom was innocent, but was simply on trial as it

The Big Ideas Of Professional Learning Communities By...
In his article, Richard DuFour outlines the big ideas that represent the core principles of professional
learning communities. He explores how the core principles of professional learning communities
guide school efforts to sustain the professional learning community model until it is embedded in the
school culture.
He identifies 3 Big Ideas of Professional Learning Communities: (1) Ensuring That Students Learn,
(2) A Culture of Collaboration, and (3) A Focus on Results
Big Idea #1: Ensuring That Students Learn
The professional learning community model flows from the assumption that the core mission of
formal education is not simply to ensure that students are taught but to ensure that they learn. Focus on

The Six Major Barriers Of Effective Communication
The Six Major Barriers of Effective Communication
Language can be loaded with meaning, beyond its dictionary definition. The meaning of language is
often encapsulated in culture from micro interpersonal to macro international. Culture defines who we
are and it is expressed in the language we use. When culture is defined as a set of customs, traditions,
beliefs, etc., it is more than just a national identity: it is a Sunday social group, a visible minority or
youth group, a family run company, a corporate entity, a community. Culture encompasses that which
we identify with as a member of society whether it be a large or small group within society. In today s
world of business communication using a common lingua franca such as English helps to make
communication more fluid but it is often not enough to bridge cross cultural gaps and common
misunderstandings. In our communication we need to be careful in the language we use and the
meaning we either knowingly or unknowingly impart on our listeners. (Czako,K., 2015)
In our Business Communications text, the author (McLean, S. 2010) cites 6 major barriers to
communications. These major barriers are common in all languages around the world and are
therefore universal in their manifestation. They embody the culture of a nation as much as they
embody the daily life of a local community group or individual. We identify with and use them on a
daily basis. However their place in a business setting is not always appreciated or

The Impact Of Hot Topic On Consumers And American Pop Culture
Getting teenagers to buy your items can be really complicated, especially with new trends changing
from month to month. Even though the average consumer can t possibly think how these stores are
able to keep up and manage the sudden changes in culture the community brings, they do know that
each day in a store brings new products and different arrangements throughout the store to fit the
consumer s needs. Specifically enough, each store creates an image for themselves that exemplifies
the culture and shows us something about the times we live in at that moment. Hot Topic influences
the way the consumer buys their products by integrating family friendly items and American pop
culture within their products in order to appeal and attract customers into buying merchandise that is
relevant and trending. What is Hot Topic? Hot Topic is an American retail store that is largely based in
California that sells culture related clothes, largely attracting young teenagers and adults. The store is
basely located in California, but has stores in other parts of the U.S. and Canada. It is evident that Hot
Topic is a store that always visually changes from time to time, in order to appeal to the young
consumers that walk by there stores when they go watch a movie or go to the mall with friends. The
store studies and analyzes the way that young men and women act, follow, and do when they are
introduced to new pop culture. Why does studying the consumer matter? Well, according to an article

Analysis Of The New Jim Crow
Stories that go untold are often never heard and forgotten through time. The author of The New Jim
Crow, Michelle Alexander, by writing her book understandingly so went out of her way to document
the stories and pain of millions of minorities, whom in the land of the free are instead forced into
undoubtful imprisonment. Alexander has spent most of her life fighting racial injustice and teaching
about civil rights. A graduate from Stanford Law School and Vanderbilt University, Michelle
Alexander became a civil rights lawyer and legal scholar. She has dedicated her life to fighting the
racial bias in the criminal justice system and ending mass incarceration, devoting much of her time to
writing about and spreading the awareness of the racial caste system that we are currently in. In
addition, Alexander has spent several years as the director of the Racial Justice Project at the ACLU of
Northern California, which also lead a national campaign against racial profiling by law enforcement
(NewJimCrow.com). In her work, The New Jim crow, Alexander cautiously argues that from the
beginning of the United States all the way to its first foundations, can one find that the foundations
were layered upon a racial caste system to which just like the United States Constitution, can
essentially adapt overtime and exploit the original undercaste of minorities that were its earliest
victims; while her book is well supported through her informative use of historical facts and events,

Ambulatory Surgery Research Paper
From a quantitative point of view cardiac arrests after an ambulatory surgery unit are a rare
emergency, but why is this problem important? This problem is important because about 234 million
person wordwide have major noncardiac surgeries every year (3),and even if a really small percentage
of these people have cardiac arrest during or post surgery, it is still a lot of people that can be saved by
implementing appropriate measurements in order to prevent and respond to cardiac arrest. According
to the article Intraoperative Cardiac Arrest in Adults Undergoing Noncardiac Surgery: Incidence, Risk

patients at low versus high risk for cardiac events after mixed non cardiac surgery, but did not do well

Rapamycin Analysis
Introduction:
Cell behavior is regulated by numerous environmental signals with associated alterations in the
expression of various genes involved in cellular physiology. As result, protein synthesis is
consequently downregulated, therefore having a negative impact on growth and proliferation. An
understanding of the mechanisms by which cells receive and integrate extracellular signals, triggering
a cascade of intracellular signals that influence cell growth and metabolism, is essential to developing
a well targeted therapeutic. One of these mechanisms is the mechanistic target of rapamycin, also
known as the mammalian target of rapamycin, (mTOR) which links growth factors, nutrients and

Human Papillomavirus ( Hpv ) Essay
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), we know that Human
papillomavirus (HPV) is a kind of severe sexually transmitted infection (STI) and it is so common that
the majority of sexually active people may infect HPV during their lives. The majority of HPV
infections cause no severe symptoms and can be resolved spontaneously in two years. But some of
them preserve and lead to premalignant condition or warts. The premalignant condition will increase
the danger of several kinds of cancers, such as the cervix cancer, vulva cancer, vagina cancer, mouth
cancer and throat cancer. According to the information from the CDC and WHO, HPV16 and HPV18
are two kinds of high risk HPVs, which may cause cervical cancer among women; HPV6 and HPV11
are considered to be the common causes of genital warts and respiratory papillomatosis.[2]
Introduction of HPV
A Brief Overview
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a kind of DNA virus from the papillomavirus family. There are more
than 150 types of HPV discovered till now. Over 40 types of them are transmitted by sex and infect
the anus and genitals.[5] Early age of first sexual intercourse, poor immune function, smoking, and
multiple partners are all high risk factors for Continual HPV infections [2] The major routes of
transmission are continuous direct skin contact with anal sex or vaginal. Babies may get HPVs from
their mother during pregnancy sometimes. People can be infected with several types of HPV in their

Welfare Of The Welfare State
The welfare state in Britain as we know it today did not exist, looking back through the 18th and 19th
Centuries many of the social welfare benefits that are available to Britain s today were not even
imaginable to the people at that time. Today much of the help that is available to those in the margins
of society is seen as an obligation for the state to correct. However in the Elizabethan Era the attitudes
towards welfare and the poor were very negative and unsympathetic. In this essay I will be discussing
welfare before the classic welfare state , the provisions for poor, the key features of the welfare state
and why it was developed.
The key features of the welfare state are very linked to the 1942 report on Social Insurance and Allied
Services or also known as the Beveridge Report. The key features I have identified of the classic
welfare state is the National Health Service (NHS), Social insurance, Housing, Education and Full
employment. Asa Briggs a British historian defined the welfare state as a state which ...organised
power is deliberately used in order to play of the market in 3 direction; by guaranteeing an individuals
a minimum income, narrowing extent of insecurity by enabling people to meet certain social
contingencies which lead to family or individual crisis and thirdly by ensuring that all citizens without
distinction of status or class are offered the best standards available to a certain agreed range of social
services . Kauffman and DeSwaan also

The Segregation Of The Jim Crow Laws
The loud chatter of the audience at the old Park Theater in New York was for a one man show
performed by Thomas Rice. To the all white audience, Jim Crow was vigorously funny. Clothed in a
stable boy costume and a straw hat, his white face darkened by coal in a behaviour recognized as
blackface. He danced and sang and even spoke in mockery of the black slang. He portrayed blacks as
ignorant, greedy and foolish. Even though his act was for entertainment purposes, Thomas Rice
implied through his act that African Americans were purposeless. This encouraged people to be less
compassionate towards African Americans and these feelings eventually created what we now know
about as the Jim Crow Laws. The Jim Crow Laws were a system of laws that ... Show more content on

The few African American doctors that existed were not allowed to practice medicine in hospitals run

the whites had separate wards for African Americans. This inequality created by the Jim Crow Laws

social injustice and different forms of inequality that negatively affect the lives of African Americans.
The United States healthcare system has been and continous to be afflicted with racism. During the

victims of discrimination in the healthcare fields of the American society. Before the civil war and the
abolishing to slavery African Americans had to rely on their masters for health care. It was not
uncommon for plantations to have their own hospital organized by African American women who
were well informed on illness and healing. Other slave owners had contracts with physicians to

Kinzer s thesis in the book the Overthrow is regime change in the United States. The author explains
how regime change has been happening over one hundred years and how it is nothing new for the

Another example is the overthrow of Nicaragua. The United States overthrow Nicaragua with the

Thomas Hardy s Tess Of The D Urbervilles
In Thomas Hardy s Tess of the d Urbervilles, Tess Durbeyfield, who is related to the ancient upper
class d Urberville family, describes herself as only a peasant by position, not by nature (239). When
Mr. Durbeyfield, Tess father, discovers that he comes from the line of the d Urbervilles, many of Tess
features and characteristics are explained. However, while Tess appearance and qualities cause her to
appear as an aristocrat, her upbringing justifies her as a peasant. Tess family is financially constrained,
her mother holds fatalistic, superstitious folk beliefs, and she is a working woman. However, Tess
more intrinsic qualities such as her looks, ethical sensitivity, relational intensity, and aptitude in
comparison to her fellow countrymen, present her as a deeper passioned (140) woman of a higher
class. Therefore, Tess, both socially and culturally, is essentially a combination of both classes, and
she does not fully fit in with either class. In the novel, Tess character, qualities, and position reveal her
as both a d Urberville, an aristocrat, and a Durbeyfield, a peasant. When the Durbeyfields discover
their noble ancestry, many of Tess qualities, such as her beauty, sensitivity, and intensity are justified.

automotive plant on the river Rough. I found it interesting that although the paintings represent a
flourishing town and industry; in reality when Rivera first began to work on them, Detroit was still
struggling to reclaim its pre depression glory. Even though many workers had lost their jobs at Ford,
Rivera immortalized them and their contributions in his creations. Whether or not they were

Slavery, Racism, And Slavery Essay
Slavery began before racism in North America. To prove this I will provide an analysis of
chronological events that displayed acts of slavery and racism. With that being said, Initially I will be
delving into the earliest implementations of slavery in North America. That being Jamestown Virginia
1619. Secondly, analysing an extract from 1655, where an African man named Anthony Johnson
claimed to own another black individual, John Casor as his property. Subsequently, moving onto
Winthrop D Jordan s essay, The Mutual Causation of Racism and Slavery which will divulge the first
instances of racism to occur in North America. Furthermore, touching on an article regarding
legislators in Maryland, displaying one of the first laws enacted in North America, which were racist
in nature. In contrast, expanding on a court document that was approved by white legislators showing
that black individuals were allowed to own and bequeath property in the late seventeenth century.
Penultimately, delving into the early eighteenth century where racism began to engulf North America.
Lastly, summarizing that, due to the analysis and chronological order of the evidence presented,
slavery began before racism.
The first sign of slavery in North America began in August, of 1619. This was seen when twenty black
men were sold to residents of Jamestown, Virginia by a dutch ship. With this being the case, Edmund

Arguments Over The Earth s Age In The Bible
Arguments over the age of the Earth have sometimes been divisive for people who regard the Bible as
God s word. Even though the Earth s age is never mentioned in the Bible, it is an issue because those
who take a strictly literal view of the early chapters of Genesis can calculate an approximate date for
the creation by adding up the life spans of the people mentioned in the genealogies. Assuming a
strictly literal interpretation of the week of creation, even if some of the generations were left out of
the genealogies, the Earth would be less than ten thousand years old. Radiometric dating techniques
indicate that the Earth is thousands of times older than that approximately four and a half billion years
old. Many Christians accept this and

The Importance Of Heat Waves In Southern California
Normal summer conditions in Southern California are dry, often with extreme heat and low humidity
level of sixty percent. California has been in a cycle of intense heat, drought, and high fire risk.
During the majority of the summer season, individuals in Southern California are at either at an
extreme caution or caution level according to the heat index. The heat index is a tool used to convert
weather temperatures into a more understandable value by accounting for humidity level (Clements

Cooling shelters include not only providing access to public cooling spaces, but also encouraging the
utilization of such resources by the homeless. Some cooling spaces include churches, restaurants,
shopping malls, and public libraries. Access to air conditioning can greatly decrease heat related
illnesses and deaths in the vulnerable populations (Eisenman, 2016). This is critical because there is an
association between increase in temperature and cardiovascular mortality (Eisenman, 2016). This
published study showed a negative relationship between heat related mortality and access to cooling
shelters.
It is part of public health nursing to promote prevention. Prevention is essential to prevent heat
illnesses and deaths. Although heat waves cannot be prevented, they can be predicted. Because of their
predictability, their impact on society can be lessesned. It is important to educate the population
regarding ways to protect themselves and prevent themselves during heat waves.
Based on the research provided, it is obvious that the physical health of homeless individuals is
considered a public health issue. With this in mind, the community project was created to provide

  • 2. Vietnam War vs. Greasy Lake War in T.C. Boyle s Short... Sudden and Ironic events that happen to the narrator in T.C. Boyle s short story Greasy Lake are the same type of events that in an instant will change a person forever. The ironic circumstances that the narrator in Greasy Lake finds himself in are the same circumstances that young people find themselves in when fighting war. The viewpoint of the world that the narrator has, completely alters as certain events take place throughout the story. His outlook on nature transforms into a wholly different standpoint as the story progresses. As his tale begins, the narrator sees himself as a tough guy or bad character . He believes he is invincible. There is nobody as cool as he is or as dangerous as him and his friends are. With his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The kids in the story are 19 years old, it takes place the summer after their first year of college. College is the reason kids of that age are at Greasy lake and not fighting in war. The outlook the narrator has on life before his experience at Greasy lake is the same attitude kids going into war had. His perception of the world after what happens at Greasy lake is the same perception men who have fought in battle and seen death have. Nothing about life is the same for the narrator after all that happens to him at Greasy lake. Nothing in life is ever the same for the young kids who fought and got caught up in the stupidity of war during Vietnam. Much of the story relates to the Vietnam war. We were nineteen. We were bad. We read Andre Gide and struck elaborate poses to show that we didn t give a shit about anything. At night we went up to Greasy Lake. The attitude the speaker of these words has is the same attitude the cocky, nineteen year old kids had as they went off to fight war. I wanted to get out of the car and retch, I wanted to go home to my parents house and crawl into bed. The honesty and fear spoken with these words symbolize the change of attitude the young Vietnam soldiers had after experiencing the horrors of war. The characters in Greasy Lake learn that they are not tough bad characters but scared children who are alone and lost in the world, the kids who fought battle in Vietnam went ... • 3. Hamlet Feature Article Write a review of Hamlet based on a viewing, whereby you ponder the question of the text s enduring relevance. A news feature based on the play where having seen the play, you analyse why the play remains relevant to modern audiences. In itself becomes a text of textual integrity. How do people value it? Discuss some aspects that you would argue to allow the text to view it as something engaging and valuable. Hamlet Through Time Hamlet. Not just your typical revenge tragedy, but something deeper, and more than able to rival the likes of Desperate Housewives , despite it s age. What the audience gets with the play, Hamlet, is a storyline that is complex and intricate, a plot that is interwoven with tales of love, betrayal, murder and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the main character, Hamlet presents the audience with an image of the renaissance man, one who offers insights into how one might deal with complex emotions such as love and grief. The audience follows Hamlet on his journey to avenge his father s death, which was brought about by his late father s brother, Claudius, the current reigning king. The story clearly centres around the ever hesitant prince and his struggle to enact his revenge. It is Hamlet s procrastination and inability to act that drives the story to its disastrously orchestrated end. Despite all his faults, the audience feels a sense of affection for the young prince and connect with him on a level that is unavailable with the other characters. It is in this connection that the interest of the audience is captured, such that one can almost experience his joy and his grief, or his jealousy and love, all things that are encountered by modern day humans. All the choices that Hamlet makes, allows the audience to understand his character a little better. No doubt, this is the result of good acting and excellent play writing, however, there is an element of value that only time brings. Another character that must be examined, is the aforementioned, Ophelia. Stuck in an Elizabethan world where misogynism is the norm and women don t have a say, Ophelia is subject to the will of the men in her life. She is chastised by her brother and father for her relationship ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Impact Of Public Transport On Rural And Sustainable... 4. Financial Analysis 4.1 Introduction Today the role of public transport is perceived very seriously in terms of urban mobility and sustainable development, but even though the financial resources available are insufficient. Acquiring appropriate financing mechanisms is not only imperative for the development of transport system but also for the holistic growth of urban pockets. The local government all over the world face financial constraints due to disparity between costs and revenues. Many urban planners think that revenues cannot be covered from fare box alone. Indian cities are also facing the same challenges. But due to some funding through JnNURM the city officials find some relief in procuring buses of high standards like present in developed countries. There are two types of costs associated with transport system: one is capital cost and other is operating cost. Capital cost constitutes of infrastructural support, procurement of buses, and construction of bus stations. Whereas operating cost includes expenses incurred in fuel, technological services, salaries to operators of buses, and upgrading buses to better quality with time. Hence financial aspect takes a big role, because without investment of money, a huge infrastructural project is not possible. Other dilemma which urban planners face is setting correct fares in order to attract maximum users and save the system to run into losses. In this section of my case study, I focus upon the financial burden of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Located in western central South America, Bolivia is bordered by Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, Peru, and Chile. Bolivia is divided into 3 very diverse regions, the Andean region, that s surrounded by mountain ranges and has the highest altitude in Bolivia, the sub Andean region, that s distinguished by its farming activities, and the llanos region, that s surrounded by rainforest and is very bio diverse. Although Bolivia has seen many great advances over the last few years, poverty, political instability, and drug trafficking continue to be issues that the country faces. In the next couple of paragraphs I m going to talk about poverty in Bolivia, and how it has caused an epidemic of malnutrition children, I m then going to narrow the topic down by talking about Bolivia s child mortality rates and healthcare system, and the problems with healthcare access, I m going to talk about Bolivia s lack of access to food security and sanitation, and lastly I m going to talk about the benefits that the popularity of the Bolivian crop quinoa has had on Bolivian nutrition. Bolivia history and poverty Since the end of the Napoleonic wars and the establishment of Bolivia s independence from Spanish rule in 1825, Bolivia has endured a violent and unstable past with close to 200 overthrows of the government and several rewrites of the constitution. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Family Guy has been marked as racist in its delivery. The examples for this are endless. Each of the over 2000 Family Guy episodes has some kind of racial joke. An example is an episode featuring Brian on a date with an African American woman. The date is filled with racist jokes right from the moment they met. Brian starts by commenting on the color of her skin saying it s a very lovely color. When the woman introduces herself as Mrs. Parks, Brian comments, like Rosa Parks. On top of that, during the date, Brian says he loves all black people and if he could take all the black people in the world, he would buy a farm and let them all just run free (YouTube). Another example features a bar scene with a horse and an African American man mocking each other. The horse asks rhetorically why there are very few African American baseball players. He continues to state that is because they are always stealing bases. Moreover, one week prior to Martin Luther King Day, the show did a skit showing Martin as a lazy and ignorant janitor who loves to eat fried chicken and watermelons. He then talks to his boss in an awkward old age black accent. (Gildemeister). African American people are not the only target of their racism. The show also does racist and stereotype jokes on Asians, Vietnamese, Africans, Mexicans, Canadians, and Indians among others. An example is a quote by Peter Griffin where he ... • 7. Alimony Spousal Support Spousal support, or alimony, is based on an outdated social tradition that it is a man s responsibility to support women because they are weaker, incapable of being equal to men, and better equipped to raise children. However, this is not the case in today s society and our alimony laws need to be changed to reflect modern times. Spousal support traces its roots back to a time when divorce was considered rare and indissoluble. As a result, a husband and wife remained married even after they had been physically separated. Since the marriage was permanently binding, a husband still maintained a financial obligation to his wife, even if they didn t live together. This is the reason why spousal support is almost always associated with a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, with the advent of the women s rights movement as well as the current feminist era, women have gained greater independence and opportunities not available to previous generations. Ca Fam Code §4320 is fast becoming obsolete, and as a result, has become discriminatory towards men. In the case of Orr v. Orr 440 U.S. 268 (1979), an Alabama man was ordered to pay alimony to his ex wife pursuant to Alabama statues which stated that husbands, not wives, are required to pay alimony upon divorce. The man appealed to the Alabama Court of Appeals, insisting that his constitutional rights had been violated. The State of Alabama sustained the constitutionality of the statues and the man then decided to appeal to the United States Supreme Court, where the State s decision was then reversed and remanded. The man argued that the gender based scheme for alimony violated the equal protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. The Court ruled on the basis that the State s preference for wives having a dependent role to husbands in family responsibilities was not substantially related to the important governmental objectives of assisting needy spouses (using sex as a proxy for need) and removing disparity in economic conditions between men and women. Additionally, the Court ruled that it was no longer feasible to compensate women based on the notion that marriage left them unprepared to support themselves following a divorce. The ... Bryant Dunetz had agreed to step down and allow Valhalla to search for a new CEO. This could be a risky endeavor because Dunetz may either refuse to step down after negotiations or the new CEO may not be a good fit. The other two major risk factors is they do not have a strong executive management team and their competition in this market space is ramping up and soon they will not be the top solutions provider for large corporate telecom equipment and services. With Valhalla having only 25% of the voting rights in the company after the capital issue, they may not have the ability to force their way with the future management. • 14. The Modern Plague Of Overpopulation Unlike plagues of the dark ages or contemporary diseases we do not understand, the modern plague of overpopulation is soluble by means we have discovered and with resources we possess. What is lacking is not sufficient knowledge of the solution but universal consciousness of the gravity of the problem and education of the billions who are its victim. This was said by Martin Luther King, Jr on May 5, 1966. If this was said almost 49 years ago by one of the greatest leaders of American history, why hasn t the issue of overpopulation been solved yet? Simply because we lack the universal consciousness of the serious issues overpopulation bring and the education required on how to prevent it. The world just can t support every single human being if we continue to ignore the issue. So what would happen globally if the demand for natural resources is greater than the supply? There will be conflicts and wars, environmental degradation and climate change. In addition to having a high demand for natural resources and a low supply, it will also cause a rise in unemployment and raise the cost of living. There will be many wars and conflicts to come due to fact that there just won t be enough resources for everybody. Michael Klare, professor of peace and world security studies at Hampshire College, and the author, most recently, of The Race for What s Left: The Global Scramble for the World s Last Resources, informs us that there have been a total of six global conflicts that have ... Germany has massed their best Soldiers from the Twelfth SS Panzer Division fielding the newest and deadliest Armored Fighting vehicles the world had ever seen. However, the Americans have an ace in the hole, The United States Army Field Artillery has made some historic and very deadly innovations. In order to defend the Northern shoulder from being overrun by the 1st SS Panzer Corps and the 67th Corps, the 405th FA Battalion must utilize their fortified fighting positions to capitalize on the advancing enemy, synchronize and mass their firing capability, and utilize a newly developed secret weapon called the Proximity Fuze to prevent the German forces from obtaining a supply through the Twin Villages. For seven days, the Battle of Elsenborn Ridge was valorously held by the artillery forces and Infantry forces of the United States Army. (Starmann R. , 2015). This battle was the greatest crushing victory of the Ardennes valley and is the only part of the Battle of the Bulge line where the Germans failed to advance. (Starmann R. , 2015). From this ridge, the United States forces were extremely trenched in. They used the few days leading up to this battle to maneuver more units to the ridge to help protect the Germans from securing the two villages. It is easy to see why readers are drawn to certain poems such as From The Nursery. Jane Kenyon s From The Nursery is the first segment of nine in a poem about depression. When I began to dissect this poem, I learned more about myself and the poet with the way she uses her line breaks, her use of metaphors and images, style, and word choice. The analysis doesn t begin with the actual poem but, instead, with the title itself. From The Nursery is the first section. It is the beginning of a fight with depression that visits and consumes the speaker when she is the most defenseless. The title is an image that that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is the thing that makes you not want to be motivated and that makes you lay in bed all day because you just can t get up. It is the thing that ruins souls to the point that they can never be the same again. Here is the only point of the poem that I do not agree with Kenyon. While the metaphor is beautiful, I don t believe that our souls are mutilated. It is quite the opposite. I believe that we, the people who battle depression, are stronger because of our shadow. • 22. The Six Major Barriers Of Effective Communication The Six Major Barriers of Effective Communication Language can be loaded with meaning, beyond its dictionary definition. The meaning of language is often encapsulated in culture from micro interpersonal to macro international. Culture defines who we are and it is expressed in the language we use. When culture is defined as a set of customs, traditions, beliefs, etc., it is more than just a national identity: it is a Sunday social group, a visible minority or youth group, a family run company, a corporate entity, a community. Culture encompasses that which we identify with as a member of society whether it be a large or small group within society. In today s world of business communication using a common lingua franca such as English helps to make communication more fluid but it is often not enough to bridge cross cultural gaps and common misunderstandings. In our communication we need to be careful in the language we use and the meaning we either knowingly or unknowingly impart on our listeners. (Czako,K., 2015) In our Business Communications text, the author (McLean, S. 2010) cites 6 major barriers to communications. These major barriers are common in all languages around the world and are therefore universal in their manifestation. They embody the culture of a nation as much as they embody the daily life of a local community group or individual. We identify with and use them on a daily basis. I found it interesting that although the paintings represent a flourishing town and industry; in reality when Rivera first began to work on them, Detroit was still struggling to reclaim its pre depression glory. Even though many workers had lost their jobs at Ford, Rivera immortalized them and their contributions in his creations. Whether or not they were appropriate at the time is subjective. There was political turbulence, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Slavery, Racism, And Slavery Essay Slavery began before racism in North America. To prove this I will provide an analysis of chronological events that displayed acts of slavery and racism. With that being said, Initially I will be delving into the earliest implementations of slavery in North America. That being Jamestown Virginia 1619. Secondly, analysing an extract from 1655, where an African man named Anthony Johnson claimed to own another black individual, John Casor as his property. Subsequently, moving onto Winthrop D Jordan s essay, The Mutual Causation of Racism and Slavery which will divulge the first instances of racism to occur in North America. Furthermore, touching on an article regarding legislators in Maryland, displaying one of the first laws enacted in North America, which were racist in nature. In contrast, expanding on a court document that was approved by white legislators showing that black individuals were allowed to own and bequeath property in the late seventeenth century. Penultimately, delving into the early eighteenth century where racism began to engulf North America. Lastly, summarizing that, due to the analysis and chronological order of the evidence presented, slavery began before racism. The first sign of slavery in North America began in August, of 1619. This was seen when twenty black men were sold to residents of Jamestown, Virginia by a dutch ship. With this being the case, Edmund S Morgan s article The Paradox of Slavery and Freedom supports the idea that slavery was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Sisters Of Mercy Scholarship Essay Becoming a distinctive mercy graduate means to understand personal truths and values,to mature, to be connected, spiritual, and to be able to accept responsibilities towards society. During my Mercy Today project I learned so much information about the current works of the Sisters of Mercy that connected with what I learned about the history of the Sisters of Mercy and their critical concerns. For example, I learned that a man named, Jim Wither, M.D.,which is the founder and medical director of Operation Safety Net, a ministry of Pittsburgh Mercy Health System (PMHS) and Trinity Health in the tradition of the Sisters of Mercy, he did his work on the streets of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He did what the Sisters of Mercy were doing in Ireland in the mid 19th Century. Since 1992, Withers has transversed areas under bridges, abandoned buildings, streets and and alleyways, seeking people in Pittsburgh who are homeless, to show them compassion by offering a listening ear, support, medical care and hope. It s almost the same actions that Catherine McAuley, which is the founder of the Sisters of Mercy, and the Sisters of Mercy were doing on the streets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will graduate with a bachelor s degree of nursing and I will begin my career and the rest of my life to live. The Sisters of Mercy committed to doing so many acts of kindness for others because they cared. That is why I want to be a nurse to help others, I want to help those who are sick and heal the wounds of others, whether they are emotionally, physically, or mentally wounded. I feel as though, it ll be a rewarding feeling waking up everyday knowing that I m going to change someone s life. Other than my career as a nurse I will make time to do my due diligence for my community. My compassion for others will serve me well as a nurse and I will make it my duty to live by the critical concerns of mercy to be a distinctive mercy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Arguments Over The Earth s Age In The Bible Arguments over the age of the Earth have sometimes been divisive for people who regard the Bible as God s word. Even though the Earth s age is never mentioned in the Bible, it is an issue because those who take a strictly literal view of the early chapters of Genesis can calculate an approximate date for the creation by adding up the life spans of the people mentioned in the genealogies. Assuming a strictly literal interpretation of the week of creation, even if some of the generations were left out of the genealogies, the Earth would be less than ten thousand years old. Radiometric dating techniques indicate that the Earth is thousands of times older than that approximately four and a half billion years old. Many Christians accept this and ... • 39. Emotional Contagion Paper 1. What was the focus this research question, and what s one article that you would read to learn more about this topic? The focus of this research question is to examine whether emotional contagion can occur through a nonverbal cue, like a Facebook post or newsfeed and whether this nonverbal cue can help predict a person s emotion even days later. One article that I would to read is Folwer s Dynamic spread of happiness in a large social network in order to explore if emotional contagion has already happened in other nonverbal settings. 2. What were at least two limitations of past research on this topic? Why are these limitations important? Two limitations of past research included the failure to account for shared experiences and if a nonverbal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, researchers don t know whether this results can be a simple case of mimicry. 6. Do you think the results of this study would generalize to other social networks? Real life relationship contexts? Why / why not? No, these studies cannot be generalized to real life situations, especially because Facebook is not a source that can represent all people, neither can Facebook compare to all the variable that influence a person daily mood experience. 7. Do you see any potential limitations or confounds that these researchers didn t address in their discussion? Yes, some confounds that researchers did not address is whether individual emotional state can affect a person interaction with the News Feed emotional content. In others words, I believe that it is also highly likely that Facebook is not creating the emotional contagion, but instead it s a response of each individual tendency. For example, more depressive people would respond to negative posts, whereas as happier people would react to happy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Describe Las Vegas Places If you were a tourist walking through the neighborhoods in Las Vegas, it would all just seem like a bunch of neutral colored buildings, a lot of dirt, people in hurry to go nowhere, and more palm trees than skin cells in your body. It would all appear mediocre to the ambitious image that people paint with their many words. The fact of the matter is, if you were a tourist, you will only ever remember Las Vegas for the strip. I don t know how many people I ve held a conversation with and in my response to the question of where I m from , I always receive the repetitious puzzled look, followed by the ever ingenious reply of, people actually live in Vegas? It seems to slip their mind that there are truck loads of families that reside in this desert oasis of a city. It s consigned to oblivion that the people of Vegas are a rare species of people with a rainbow of personalities and ambitions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Las Vegas helped me realize what I want to do with the rest of my life. The city is filled to the brim with people, and every one of them is unique. Everyone is always doing something amazing with their life; whether it be living their dream of performing on the strip, painting to their hearts desire in downtown Las Vegas, or operating in one of the many hospitals around town. It s a hustle and bustle finding the person that you want to be, but it s what Vegas is best at pushing you to unearth what makes you remarkable. My fifth grade G.A.T.E teacher did just that. I already had a background love for the medical field, my mother always said that I was born with a scalpel in my hand, but it was Mrs.Tipton that gave me the push that I needed. She gave me a crash course in medicine at the age of eight years old. I had to build the human brain out of clay, memorize all of the anatomically correct positions of organs, and dissect a sheep brain while identifying all of the parts. It was exhilarating and an exceptionally rare opportunity that I am thankful for every ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Importance Of Heat Waves In Southern California Normal summer conditions in Southern California are dry, often with extreme heat and low humidity level of sixty percent. California has been in a cycle of intense heat, drought, and high fire risk. During the majority of the summer season, individuals in Southern California are at either at an extreme caution or caution level according to the heat index. The heat index is a tool used to convert weather temperatures into a more understandable value by accounting for humidity level (Clements Casani, 2014). The heat index recommends adding fifteen degrees Fahrenheit when in direct sunlight. Heat waves are defined as prolonged periods of extreme heat (Clements Casani, 2014). Cooling shelters include not only providing access to public cooling spaces, but also encouraging the utilization of such resources by the homeless. Some cooling spaces include churches, restaurants, shopping malls, and public libraries. Access to air conditioning can greatly decrease heat related illnesses and deaths in the vulnerable populations (Eisenman, 2016). This is critical because there is an association between increase in temperature and cardiovascular mortality (Eisenman, 2016). This published study showed a negative relationship between heat related mortality and access to cooling shelters. It is part of public health nursing to promote prevention. Prevention is essential to prevent heat illnesses and deaths. Although heat waves cannot be prevented, they can be predicted. Because of their predictability, their impact on society can be lessesned. It is important to educate the population regarding ways to protect themselves and prevent themselves during heat waves. Based on the research provided, it is obvious that the physical health of homeless individuals is considered a public health issue. With this in mind, the community project was created to provide resources for the homeless population to prevent heat injury. This paper will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
