Examples Of Chivalry In Sir Gawain And The Green Knight
One well acclaimed and famed examples of Arthurian Romance in the Middle Ages is the tale, Sir
Gawain and the Green Knight. The renowned tale tells the story about the journeys of knights, on a
quest and heroes who exemplify chivalrous acts and demonstrate their courtly love. Sir Gawain and
the Green Knight is considered to be the finest example of Arthurian literature by many scholars, due
to the rich imagination and skillful language, revolving around the central theme of chivalry.
The practice of chivalry, forms the morals and actions of Sir Gawain and other characters in the tale,

LO1. There are four major trends that have influenced world trade and global marketing . first one is
decline of economic protectionism , is the practice of shielding one or more industries within a
country s economy from foreign competition through the use of tariffs or quotas . Second is rise of
economic integration , just like creation of the European Union and the North American Free Trade
Agreement . Third , there exists global competition among global companies for global consumers ,
resulting in firms adopting global marketing strategies and promoting global brands . And finally , is
the emergence of a networked global marketspace has emerged using internet technology as a tool for

Step 4 is develop findings from the marketing research data collected . This involved analyze the data
and present the findings of the research . The last step is take marketing actions , which involves
implement the action recommendations , evaluate the results .
LO3. Secondary data have already been recorded before the start of the project and consist of two
parts : internal secondary data , which originate from within the organization , such as sales reports
and customer comments , and external secondary data , which are created y other organizations , such
as the U.S. Census Bureau , or business and trade publications , Primary data are collected specifically
for the project and are obtained by either observing or questioning people .
LO4. Marketing researchers observe people in various ways , such as electronically using Nielsen
people meters to measure TV viewing behavior or personally using mystery shoppers or ethnographic
techniques . A recent electronic innovation is neuromarketing useing high tech brain scanning to
record the responses of a consumer s brain to marketing stimuli like packages or TV ads .
Questionnaires involve asking people questions in person using interviews or focus groups or via a

Essay on Media Portray of Environmental Issues
The way that media has portrayed environmental issues has changed radically in the past few years.
Environmental issues often aren`t considered newsworthy unless something large scale occurs with a
notable impact on everyday life. The BP oil spill in 2010 made front pages world wide, there was a
sudden push for the rescue of marine life and a general disgust for the condition of the Gulf Coast. An
outpouring of awareness came of this tragedy and mass media diligently informed audiences of every
detail as the following cleanup events unfolded. Most environmental news is not front page material.
The media gets the ultimate say in what is deemed as important.
The typical newspaper reader does no read every single article, but rather skims ... Show more content

Media draws from various sources to gather facts and assemble stories for their readership. When a
story comes out about a new scientific discovery or an impending extinction of a species, the source
must be considered. In a paper by Jeremy Corbett entitled Testing Public Uncertainty of Science he
discusses how newspapers especially just don t have the manpower to go straight to the scientific
source. Media often rely on information sourced from governmental and private entities rather than
cutting edge scientific information. This allows them to provide information that is easily understood
and likely widely accepted. Corbett gives the example of a magazine that cites scientific reports but
changes their story constantly: cell phones cause cancer, no they don`t, then months later they are back
to the initial assumption.
Awareness does not necessarily lead to change. Just because an environmental issue is brought to light
doesn t mean its going to pull at everyone s` heart strings and convince them to act. News affects
everyone a little differently and some indicating factors include education level and interest in local,
national, and international news. (Schafer, 2010, pp. 11 65) A survey cited in an article by Fredrick
Saunders showed that in 2011, 70 percent of people who follow international news say that global
warming is a serious threat, compared to 35 percent of those surveyed who do not

Much Ado About Nothing Benedick Essay
In my oral final, I will be exploring who the character Benedick is, from the comedic play Much Ado
About Nothing by William Shakespeare. I will speak a little about his identity at the beginning of the
comedy, then who he is compared to metaphorically, and finally about the development of his
character throughout the play.
Initially, Benedick appears as a character meant entirely for comic relief, acting as if the most crucial
part of his personality is his wit and humor. However, by the end of the play he is noticed as someone
who can think clearly and make important decisions.
The biggest change in Benedick s character is risen from his relationship with Beatrice. And we can
see this throughout the story as they are unable to converse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

At the beginning of the play, Benedick is portrayed as a character that strongly despised the idea of
marriage and love, although these feelings slowly start to change as the comedy progresses. In the
play, Benedick states that I never did think to marry (Act 2 Scene iii) even though he later declares I
did not think I should live till I were married (Act 2 Scene iii). Through these quotes it is clearly
shown that Benedick is self contradictory, which marks a critical turning point for the development in
Benedick s character as his earlier opinions of marriage,

Green Chile Jimmy Santiago Baca Summary
The subtext of the poem Green Chile by Jimmy Santiago Baca implies that women from New Mexico
accomplish traditional gender role duties, such as cooking and serving men. Gender roles place the
grandmother in the kitchen preparing a feast for her grandson who is visiting; providing for men has
been practiced through generations, this perspective has been embedded in the mind as a norm. For
instance, when the narrator s grandmother serves [him] green chile con carne between soft warm
leaves of corn tortillas, with beans and rice her sacrifice (32 34). This portrays how she gives her all in
order to attend her little prince (35). The narrator describes his grandmother s love and passion for the
green chile in the second stanza as she passionately

The Importance Of Creationism In Schools
Creationism does not explain how the earth was created, therefore it should not be taught as a science
and should not be taught in schools. My thesis is important, because schools are trying to stop
teaching evolution because they believe it is not the way life on earth started. The teaching of
evolution in schools is important, because it teaches students the correct reason for how life on earth
started. The articles that I collected for my research, where academic journals from the library data
base and had a stand point towards science. My paper will give the reader a broader view point on
why creationism should not be taught in schools and how evolution should remain in schools.
Creationism has been a controversial topic in our school systems and schools in some states are
fighting to have it taught instead of evolution as a science. Creationism is the belief that all living
organisms originated from a biblical process instead of evolution. We will never really know how the
earth was created, but by the use of science, we can get a better understanding of it. Therefore
creationism should not be taught as a science and should not be taught in school. The teachers are the
people that have to deal with this topic the most because of all the pressure they get from school
administrators, parents and the community. Some science teachers have been told not to teach about
evolution, but they did it nevertheless. One of the most famous cases was the

On December 3 in 1859 Abraham Lincoln gave a speech about John Brown in Leavenworth Kansas,
at the Stockton s Hall, which consisted of The Republican Party National Convention. Abraham
Lincoln who was a republican speaking to and republican audience, mostly talked about the ideology
of popular sovereignty and the Kansas Nebraska act. I noticed that Abraham only talks about John
Brown at the end of a very long speech very briefly, he does not show any respect to John Brown he
only rubs it in that he died at his own phone. This makes me think Abraham Lincoln has no sympathy
towards John Brown, especially because it is the day after his execution and he is basically insulting
John Brown. Old John Brown has just been executed for treason against a state. We cannot object,
even though he agreed with us in thinking slavery was wrong. That cannot excuse violence,
bloodshed, and treason. I noticed that Abraham repeats the word treason . Treason is a crime of
betraying one s country especially by attempting to kill the sovereign or overthrow the government. I
think he uses the word to really justify that what John Brown did was inexcusable and that he
committed a horrible crime and has betrayed the country. Treason makes you think of John Brown
very negatively and that he did something very horrible and he deserves death. Lincoln also seems to
be accusing John Brown of something. It was in Lincoln think that John Brown deserves

The Little Mermaid Identity
In The Little Mermaid, Ariel begins as a brave, interested, and gutsy youthful mermaid. She
investigates the ocean with her companions and saves Flounder and Prince Eric from drowning. When
she builds up a crush on Eric and is quickly changed into a human, be that as it may, she transforms
into a calm, lovesick puppy, investing the majority of her energy fixating on the ruler and staring wide
eyed in admiration at him and he is absolutely into this version of Ariel. She truly gets to be noticeably
quiet when she exchanges her voice to the shrewd ocean witch Ursula in return for legs so she can
carry on with a human existence with Eric. Her demeanor changes from bold to submissive, and her
previous enthusiasm for human culture narrows to simply searching out a kiss. She eventually gets the
ruler, however to the detriment of having completely updated her identity and abandoning her
companions, family and world behind. The message here, don t act naturally in the event that you need
somebody to fall in love with you.

Freshman Year In High School
Your freshman year will be exciting, but it can also be intimidating. It is the start of four long years of
high school, some of the most important years of your life. There are a lot of important things to do
your freshman year, many of which I didn t start until much later. So here is some advice that will help
you survive your freshman year, and prepare you for the rest of high school.
Join a sports team or club High school is the time to try new things and discover what you enjoy
doing. Joining a sports team or a club is a great way to find your interest and to meet others with that
same interest. Freshman year is the time to join that sport you ve been wanting to try or that club that
caught your interest during the club fair because you can always leave a team or a club, but you can
never regain time for one you did not join soon enough.
The hallways are for walking There are only 4 minutes for everyone to get from one class to the next;
so please, please do clog the hallway. That includes, but is not limited to, going up the stairs on the left
side or walking on the left side of the hall, walking in a big enough group to span the width of the hall,
closing one of the doors in the hallway or neglecting to open one, or just walking at an annoyingly
slow pace.
Remember to sleep It might not seem like it, but getting the proper amount of sleep is one of the most
important things you can do to keep your mind in shape during the school year.

hobby the time it deserves is a much more rewarding way to spend your time off than working on that

Ohio Government Benefits
Ohio has so much potential. Property is cheap, taxes are cheap, the colleges are cheaper than most, but
people are fleeing the state at alarming rates. There is only one reason that comes to mind for this. The
state government. It sounds narrow, I know, but everything the state government does, affects this
state, and our lives drastically. An example of this would be College Credit Plus, which is helping
students tremendously, or the Commercial Activity Tax, or CAT, which is driving small businesses out
of the state, or even how Ohio still hasn t legalized recreational marijuana. I know you can t fix who is
in our state government, but there are things our state government, and the people of Ohio can do in
order to better the state. Ohio ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The funding for public education is based on the grounds of property tax. Which, again, is incredibly
stupid because Ohio s property taxes are so low. A better way to fund public education would be to
legalize marijuana. Marijuana is legal in Ohio, but only for medical use. It would be so much more
profitable if it was legal for recreational use also. Not to mention, the people who do marijuana would
stop being thrown in jail. Which is my main beef with it. The federal government paints marijuana as
this terrible drug, Compared to those who don t use marijuana, those who frequently use large
amounts report the following: lower life satisfaction, poorer mental health, poorer physical health,
more relationship problems. People also report less academic and career success. For example,
marijuana use is linked to a higher likelihood of dropping out of school. It s also linked to more job
absences, accidents, and injuries (National Institute of Drug Abuse). Look, I really don t care how
high people get off of marijuana, they can smoke until they don t know their own name. It makes me
mad that people are getting thrown in jail over simply having marijuana on them, while people die of
lung cancer from smoking cigarettes. Cigarettes are even popularized by the media, not demonized
like marijuana is. It s ridiculous. According to Tax Foundation in 2016, A mature

Nirvana s Lead Singer Commit Suicide

Cobain committed suicide in the guest house behind his Seattle home. As a child, Cobain had to deal

Examples Of Personification In The Pardoners Tale
In The Pardoners Tale, the three rioters come together to kill Death, but in doing so they come upon
some things that they can t go back and change. An analysis of The Pardoners Tale, shows how
personification and irony are not so funny when Death is involved. Death is personified throughout
The Pardoners Tale. Personification occurs when an author gives living characteristics to something
that isn t living. The first example occurs when the three rioters are drinking and they hear a funeral.
The tavern boy tells the men about their friend s death. , sir no need i promise you, two hours before
you came here i was told. He was a friend of yours in days of old, and suddenly last night, the man

Little did he know that the other two rioters were planning to kill him. There are three types of irony
told in The Pardoners Tale. Another form of irony is situational irony. Situational irony is when a
reader expects one thing then something else occurs. Situational irony occurs in The Pardoners Tale
when the three rioters are in the bar, Let s each hold up a hand to one another, each of us will become
the others brother. ( Chaucer LL (696 697)) but by the time the three rioters find the gold under the
tree they all plot to kill each other in order to have more money to themselves. The final example of
irony told in The Pardoners Tale, is dramatic irony. Dramatic irony is when an audience knows
something that the characters are not aware of. Dramatic irony is found in The Pardoners Tale, when
the youngest rioter arrives with the poisoned wine planning to kill the other two rioters, but the other
two rioters had plotted against the youngest trampling him and killing him. Once the youngest rioter is
dead the other two drink the poisoned wine not knowing that the wine was

Smoking Should Be Banned from All Public Areas
Do you smell that? That foul scent mixed into the air. It s killing you slowly inside, each time you take
a breath of this putrid, polluted, dirty scent. You smell it too, the trillions of chemicals racing into your
lungs. Now look around yourself, and you ll see someone smoking on the bench beside you. Smoking
is the number one avoidable causes of death. Therefore, smoking should be banned from all public
areas. The ban from smoking in public will help to reduce the smokers intake of cigarettes/chemicals,
cigarettes themselves are a danger to the earth, some may argue that this ban may damage the cigarette
economy, and that smoking does not only effect the smoker himself/herself, it effects everyone around
them, in many various ways. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consequently, if the ban against smoking were to be put into action, there would be a great benefit;
smokers would reduce their intake of cigarettes, meaning lowering risks of the defects of cigarettes.
This is something many people want, and this is something that is necessary for the better of the
people. Reduce the cigarettes. Reduce the chemical intake. Reduce the risks. It is as simple as that to
reduce the risks of disease, and possibly saving some from the despair of disease. Not only will this
ban against smoking in public areas benefit the smokers health, this benefits the earth by reducing the
amount of cigarettes littered/polluting the air. So many people just throw their cigarettes away without
any second thoughts that it will just decompose into the earth like a banana peel. Or once it hits the
ground, the hot ashes will be extinguished, put out in an instant. You may not think that just one

The Animation Of Life In Frankenstein
The Animation of Life by Stories: Literature and Society Doctor Frankenstein in Mary Shelley s
influential novel never reveals the secrets behind the animation of his monster. Even still, the creature
is suddenly thrust into being; thrust into an amalgamation of ebbing and flowing stories and forced to
carve out a story of his own. It can be reasoned that everything which exhibits what we classify as life
carries with it the capacity to simultaneously create and be shaped by stories. Shelley s intentional
decision to keep the methods of the monster s creation hidden allows for the story of the monster itself
to be what truly gives him life and consequently, the story of Frankenstein and his monster has
breathed life into many modern discussions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most poignant example being Victor s wedding night, a night which should be shared between
him and his new bride. Ultimately, Victor is so caught up in his own story that he does not even begin
to reason that his new bride could be the target of his monster s wrath and Victor s beloved dies at the
hands of his creation. (Shelley 151) It is interesting to conjecture that getting caught up in one s own
story is the opposite of animating life, rather, the loss of life. When one is caught up in their own story,
all other stories around it cease to be narratable. By figurative reasoning, when someone s story
becomes un narratable, the life which the story sustains can no longer exist. Arthur Frank comments
that stories are symbiotic, Stories and people need each other. (Frank 37) A person cannot live without
stories and stories can be created, or destroyed, by people. Frankenstein teaches us that stories are
dangerous and out of control, but we depend on them to animate life and without them, life ceases to

Pro Choice Vs Pro Life Essay
The terms pro life and pro choice basically comes down to the question of whether a person wants to
see abortion banned or not. But as black and white we may want it to be, there s more to the debate
(Head). The Roman Catholic Church and a wide range of other religions disallows abortion,
euthanasia, the death penalty and war (Head). When a person is pro life , you can say that individual
believes the government has an obligation to preserve all human life, despite intent, viability, or
quality of life concerns (Head). So basically if a girl or woman was raped and got pregnant, it would
be illegal to get an abortion. Another situation would be a pregnant woman s life is at risk if she goes
through with the pregnancy. That person would technically be fines or go to jail for wanting to save
her own life as opposed to keeping the baby and possibly dying. ... Show more content on

When someone is pro choice , that person wants independence with respect to their own reproductive
systems as long as they do not violate the autonomy of others (Head). Pro choice supporters assert
strongly that celibacy and abstinence; Contraception use; Emergency contraception use; Abortion, for
the first two trimesters of pregnancy; and Childbirth to remain legal (Head).I find it very disturbing
that people are willing to abort a child from second trimester to child birth. I find it unethical and
inhuman. Unless that mother has 90 percent chance of dying by keeping the child, they should then
have the choice of going through with it or getting an abortion. I personally think if someone wants to
have an abortion because they were careless, there should be a limit on the timing. Even if it was a
rape related situation, I would still consider the facts: By 21 to 25 days, the baby s heart starts beating
(Spuc). Most people of religion will associate this with life and say that s when the fetus becomes a
person. But the heart only pumps

Bubonic Plague Globalization
In studying the effects of globalization and institutional efficacy on the spread of animal host
epidemics it is important to recognize and attempt to control for the differing host variables and
disease spread patterns in both Avian Influenza A (H5N1) and Bubonic Plague. There are two main
features of variability between Avian Influenza outbreaks and Bubonic plague pandemics that I find
prudent to acknowledge in order to give my cross historical comparison of the political response to
these diseases a solid grounding. The first is the basic function and spread of the diseases. Avian Flu
and Bubonic plague differ in their level of danger partially due to their transmission mediums and
forms. The second is the basic movement and behavioral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rats proclivity towards the human condition of surplus food supplies and trash production created a
system whereby these rodents cohabitation with humans, to the displeasure of the humans, was greatly
supportive of large rat populations (McCormick, 2003). In his 2003 study, McCormick goes into great
detail surrounding the intimate relationship between human urbanization and increasing rat
populations. These animals, did not only survive, but thrived on continued interaction with human
created systems of roads, cereal storage, waste disposal, and climate controlled housing (McCormick,
2003). This parasitic relationship clearly makes some institutional controls available in a more
domestic case less viable, but can still be mildly controlled as seen in modern steps towards urban
sanitation including widespread eradication of rat population in modern cities (McCormick,

Bringing A Dog To Work Research Paper
Bringing a dog to work might sound fun and relaxing, but there is also some disadvantages of having
your dog at work. Yes, they may be cute, but they can easily distract you and others. Some people
might even be allergic. Most dogs need an environment that has open space and roaming room, not
some closed office. Taking your dog to work might be fun and all, but can be very complicated. Dogs
can be the cutest, most cuddliest animal on the planet. They are an easy distraction. Imagine taking
your dog to work, as soon as you walk in, most people want to pet, hold, or even play with your dog,
and it could get you behind on work tasks and even the people who are playing with your dog. For
example, you re sitting at your desk and all of a sudden your dog is giving you a heartattack from
barking out of no where. Everybody is looking and you cant stop your dog from barking. Only way
for you to handle it, is to give him a treat or attention, which makes you stop what your doing and
waste time on something that should be done after work hours. In the article Against Bringing Dogs to
Work, it states, Even pets that are well behaved at home may act unpredictably in a new environment

The Pros And Cons Of Retrenchment
Business The business should at any point of time, prepare for plant closing and retrenchment of the
employee, even if they are doing well. They can start by having a clearly defined policy about
retrenchment, including being transparent and stating its benefits. Under the Employment Act,
employees who have worked with the company for at least two years can request for the retrenchment
benefits. The amount that is to be paid to the employee is not fixed and the employer is not compelled
to do so, therefore, it would be left for the employer and employee to negotiate. However, the practice
in Singapore is that for every year of service by the employee, the employer would pay one month of
salary. This would reduce the possibility of the retrenched employee, bringing the case to the ministry.
As per Ministry of Manpower guidelines, the employer must give notice and offer the retrenchment
benefits to those employees that are eligible (Ministry Of Manpower 2015). The union would also

The main reason for companies to retrench workers is likely to be because of cost cutting measures
due to financial difficulties and up till the extent of plant closing. The respective union role would
need to first advise and remind them on the alternatives to retrenchments such as temporary layoffs or
a shorter work week. However, retrenchment still takes place, in employment assistance to the
retrenched employees, the union can first help to negotiate the quantum payments, the retrenchment
and/or additional benefits for affected workers (Today Online 2013). For example, the retrenched

Search for Kinship in Joyce s A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
At the heart of James Joyce s A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man lies Stephen Dedalus, a sensitive
young man concerned with discovering his purpose in life. Convinced that his lack of kinship or
community with others is a shortcoming that he must correct, Stephen, who is modeled after Joyce,
endeavors to fully realize himself by attempting to create a forced kinship with others. He tries many
methods in hopes of achieving this sense of belonging, including the visiting of prostitutes and nearly
joining the clergy. However, it is not until Stephen realizes, as Joyce did, that his true calling is that of

He closed his eyes, surrendering himself to her, body and mind, conscious of nothing in the world but
the dark pressure of her softly parting lips. They pressed upon his brain as upon his lips as though they
were the vehicle of a vague speech; and between them he felt an unknown and timid pressure, darker
than the swoon of sin, softer than sound or odour. (Joyce, 353) This passage chronicles Stephen s first
sexual encounter, a visit with a prostitute. The encounter comes as Stephen s intense feelings of
spiritual solitude are reaching a peak; so much so that his blood was in revolt . (Joyce, 351) As a result
of this revolt, Stephen goes in search of the immediate contact with others that he has lacked, and
finds it in what he recognizes as sin. His wish to sin with another of his kind, to force another being to
sin with him and to exult with her in sin (Joyce, 351) goes well beyond the lustful urges of young
men; the true lust here is lust for companionship and an outlet to escape his torturous solitude.
From the beginning of the encounter Joyce makes it clear that while Stephen believes that he has
found a remedy to his problems in sin, the truth is that this is an empty solution that will not satisfy in
the end. The mood of the encounter is often discomforting rather than cleansing; in the prostitute s
room there is a huge doll with her legs spread apart in the copious easychair beside the bed. (Joyce,

Democracy Derailed Essay
Democracy Derailed looks at the initiative process, the effects of that process and asked the question,
Is this a good way to make public policy? I feel that even though the process is not perfect it is a great
way to allow the average citizen more power in policy making.
The History
Democracy Derailed begins with addressing the evolution of the initiative process. During the first
twenty years in Plymouth Colonies, all adult men met to consider legislation. In 1715, Massachusetts
had to address anything that was supported by ten citizens. By 1788, Massachusetts began conducting
referendums, and by the 1850 s, referendums had become an acceptable practice. By the end of the

The common ground that all members shared was their dislike and distrust for Democrats,
Republicans, banks and monopolists. They felt that these groups were controlled by extreme
corruption and infested legislatures with bribes to maintain control and power.
Both groups chose the initiative to help clean up governmental corruption, inspired by its use in
Switzerland. The Webster s Dictionary defines initiative as, the introduction of proposed legislation, as
to popular vote, by voters petitions. This is what dre3w both the Populists and Progressives to
migrating initiatives to the United States. The popular theory was that if voters would gain education
and curiosity connected to public affairs. Initiatives seemed like the logical solution to allow power

America must consent to let majority into the game...We will not allow the few to continue to
determine what the policy of the country is to be...all men with the convictions of America in their
hearts, will crowd to that standard and a new day of achievement may come for the liberty we love.
Wilson was just one politician to believe that initiatives could help American government. Theodore

Egyptian culture. From the belief of multiple deities and an old tradition of passing down stories
orally, every aspect of life in ancient Egypt was informed by the stories which related the creation of

Essay on Descartes
In the Meditations, Rene Descartes attempts to doubt everything that is possible to doubt. His
uncertainty of things that existence ranges from God to himself. Then he goes on to start proving that
things do exist by first proving that he exists. After he establishes himself he can go on to establish
everything else in the world. Next he goes to prove that the mind is separate then the body. In order to
do this he must first prove he has a mind, and then prove that bodily things exist. I do agree with
Descartes that the mind is separate from the body. These are the arguments that I agree with Descartes.

Say one imagines x, imagining x equals understanding x plus being aware of x by his judgement.
Descartes says that a triangle can be imagined, but a chiliagon (thousand sided figure) can only be
understood. A peculiar sort of effort is required to imagine, beyond what is required to understand.
Now he attacks the notion of bodies existing. He says, The way of thinking that I call ‘sense give us a
reason to think bodies exist? Descartes attacks this the answer of this question in three ways: to repeat
what was formerly believed and the grounds for them, to consider why they were brought into doubt,
and to determine what must now be believed. Regarding the first point, a long list of beliefs is given:
my body, pleasurable effects, appetites, primary and secondary qualities, and different bodies. He then
goes on to say that since it seemed impossible that they came from himself, it remains that they came
from other things, and the only kind that to his mind are those which resemble the ideas themselves.
He also says the one s own body seems in a privileged position, in that one can never separate one s
self from it, and it is the seat of appetites, feelings, pleasure and pain. There is no evident connection

Reduction of endocannabinoid production is one reason why chronic stress is a major risk factor in the

Most schools in economically disadvantaged areas in the United States suffer from teachers who are
underprepared and too often work in schools with poor working decisions, and low pay. The
experienced teachers that these schools have tend to leave and the good teachers will do their best to
avoid them. Most educators in poor areas are not as likely to have the same qualifications and skills as
the teachers that are in advantaged areas. Most of the time teachers at low income schools are there in
order to gain some experience so they can later on become more desirable by high performing schools.
There are many inequalities amongst students, there are students in advantaged areas having twice as
much spent on them as disadvantaged students. If you take a look at some inner city schools such as
the ones in Chicago or New York, you would see that most of those schools have teachers not suited
for their position along with overcrowded classrooms, damaged buildings, torn up textbooks. The
purpose of the federal program No child left behind was to make sure that poverty stricken areas are
funded. New York City used to hire teachers that had failed their licensure exam multiple times. As a
result of attending inadequate schools, many students do very poorly when compared to the more
advantaged students.

Military Services Act

enacting the Military Services Act to register and conscript men for war. Almost all French Canadians
opposed conscription because they felt they had no loyalty to France and Britain. Other Canadians
were at ease with the conscription as they supported the British Empire. The farmers, union heads, and
pacifists were all opposed of the conscription like the French Canadians. I believe the Military

The Quebec City mayor sent reinforcements from Ottawa to help control the rioting, which had been
going on for two days. On the Easter Monday the crowds organized against the military presence in
the city. Armed rioters started to fire at the troops and vise versa. There was an estimated four men
killed by the fire and dozens injured. These riots represent one of the most violent disturbances in
Canadian history. These riots erupted over conscription, which grew from how things were before in
French Canadian nationalism. The military crackdown that lasted in Quebec until the end of the war
resulted in an increase in state power in the growing of French Canadian nationalism. These riots over
the conscription and the French Canadians sticking to their ways lead to a many difficult and

relationship of the English Canadians and the French Canadians, it limited the freedom of the males
by forcing them to attend war and fight, and also caused a dangerous and damaging riot in Quebec. By
the spring of 1918, the government had amended the Military Services Act so that there were no

Basic Parameters That Affect The Performance
7. Basic Parameters That Affect The Performance in RTOS
7.1 Multi tasking and preemptable:
In RTOS the system have to be multitasking and preemptable because those two features make the
RTOS Scheduler end any lower priority task to execute the higher ones or to release some resources
for other tasks that urgently need those resources. Also the system have to handle different level of
priorities of interrupts.(Yerraballi,R. 2000)
7.2 Dynamic deadline identification:
In some scheduling algorithms such as (EDF)the deadline is converted to priority levels. Then we can
control priorities by controlling the deadlines. Although such an approach is error prone, nonetheless it
is employed for lack of a better solution (Buttazzo, 2005).
7.3 Predictable synchronization:
The threads of the system need to communication and to be synchronized in a timely efficient and
predictable way.
7.4 Sufficient Priority Levels:
In the scheduling algorithms based on priorities. There must be enough levels of priorities. Priority
inversion occur when a low level priority hold the resource that the the high level priority is waiting
for or blocked due to this resource, and the lower priority is delayed because low priority task. Two
workarounds in dealing with priority inversion, namely priority inheritance and priority ceiling
protocols (PCP), need sufficient priority levels.
7.5 Predefined latencies:
The timing of the systems must be predictable and this is done by defining task switching

Racism Has Gone Back Underground By Richard Pryor
There s a lot more hypocrisy than before. Racism has gone back underground. Richard Pryor. This
quote is a GREAT example of the current disadvantages black families are facing today and have been
facing for a lifetime. In the 1910 blatant racism to an individual s face was something to chide
someone about, but the racism hidden in our social structures have remained and is continuing to
thrive. Structural racism in the U.S is defined as the normalization and legitimization of an array of
dynamics that routinely advantages whites while producing cumulative and chronic adverse outcomes
for people of color (Lawrence, Keleher). It is found in institutions such as, education, politics, and
economics. As a mixed status family the individuals in my family have faced many disadvantages and
some advantages at the hands of structural racism. It affected our access to Housing, the labor market,
healthcare, and education. I asked four of my family members about their personal experience with
structural racism and I will also include my experience in this paper.
To begin, housing discrimination is discrimination based on protected class status, race, ethnicity and
so much more in the realm of housing and real estate. It can lead to racial segregation and housing

In John 1:29 (New International Version), He is known as The Lamb of God , and many other
passages in the Bible. One of the things the author of this poem wants people to know is that lambs are
sweet and gentle. By saying that, he is also stating that God is sweet and gentle as well.
In the first stanza, the speaker asks who the lamb s creator is; however, the answer is not told until the
end of the poem. Here is where one would find a physical description of the lamb, which is seen as a
pure and gentle creature. In the second stanza, however, the lamb is compared with baby Jesus, as well
as between the lamb and the speaker s soul. In the last two lines of the poem, the speaker identifies the
creator as God. It seems that Blake asks who made thee in one of his other poems, which is known as
a companion to The Lamb, and it is called The Tiger. Blake likes to question who could be responsible
for these creations.
The speaker of the poem makes a direct reference to Jesus from the Bible in line seventeen. The child
speaker said, He became a child. Jesus, the Son of God, was sent down from Heaven to be born of a
virgin. Jesus took the form of a child because just like a lamb, they resemble innocence, peace, and
gentleness. Christ is peace, gentle, caring, complex, and simple at the same time. Jesus is also known
as a sacrificial lamb because He died on the cross for everyone s sins. John 1: 29 states, The next day
John saw Jesus coming toward

Homer Bad Man Analysis
Modern society relies heavily on media, a form of mass communication, to inherit its values and
beliefs on political and social issues occurring around the world. Two of the most common forms of
communication in this field are current affairs programs and news broadcasts. Due to the mass
production and high demand for news around the world, the images and stories presented to the public
are often skewed, therefore sometimes misrepresenting the truth behind the stories being reported on.
As media has become more commonplace in modern society, modern texts have explored this idea
more frequently. Both the television series, Frontline by Rob Sitch et al and The Simpsons episode

The episode has the media depict Homer Simpson, the protagonist, as sexually harassing a younger
woman when the audience can see that Homer was really trying to retrieve his precious gummy bear
from the back of the woman s pants. When the woman retaliates to what she assumes is an act of
harassment, the media begin to get involved and a fictitious news station called Rock Bottom asks to
interview Homer to get his account of the story. The report begins with the woman portrayed as a
university honours student who devoted her life to kids, (Daniels Lynch, 1994, 10:46) and Homer as a
grossly overweight pervert. (Daniels Lynch, 1994, 10:49) When she is spoken about, the music is
angelic and sweet which suddenly contrasts to the sinister non diagetic sound played when Homer is
depicted. Later in the interview, Daniels and Lynch humorously show the blatant and obvious cuts in
the interview by the clock in the background constantly switching back and forward in time, and
Homer s words cutting from sweet and candy repeatedly. This mise en scene and use of cinematic
techniques within the show, is used to portray how easy it is for the media to misrepresent the truth
through film editing and other technological

The Benefits Of Irreversible Enzyme Inhibitors
Enzyme inhibitors are molecules that bind to enzymes to decrease their activity. Many drugs are
enzyme inhibitors because by blocking the enzymes activity it can kill pathogens (shpanskaya and
Melechko, 2008) Enzyme inhibitors assist in altering the catalytic action of an enzyme in order to
slow down or stop catalysis (Worthington biochemical corporation, 2015). Inhabitation can either be
reversible or irreversible. During irreversible inhabitation the inhibitor detaches slowly from its
targeted enzyme as it is tightly bound to the enzyme by covalent or noncovalent bonds. Important
drugs such as penicillin are irreversible inhibitors. The penicillin covalently modifies the enzyme
transpeptidase which prevents synthesis of bacterial cell walls consequently killing off the bacteria
(Biochemistry, 2002)
As opposed to irreversible inhibition, reversible inhibition is a rapid detachment of the enzyme
inhibitor because the inhibitors bind to the enzymes with non covalent bonds. Unlike irreversible
inhibitors, reversible inhibitors do not have chemical reaction and can be broken down easily by
methods such as dilution (shpanskaya ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a hormone that whose main function is to constrict blood vessels. This constriction increases
the amount of energy needed to pump blood around the body and can cause high blood pressure. This
can be dangerous for the heart if it had been weakened by heart attack. By blocking the production of
Angiotensin II with ACE inhibitors this, in turn prevents constriction and lowers blood pressure
(American Heart Association, 2015). ACE inhibitors also help to stop angiotensin I from converting
into angiotensin II. By doing this there is a reduction in dilation of the blood vessels. There is also a
reduction of the amount of water returned to the blood by the kidneys which ultimately leads to
decreased blood pressure (Kenny,

Short Story On Blue Shorts
It was the summer of 1926, and I was just about to work at Universal Pictures with my trusty
companion, Ub Iwerks.
Ok, Ub. First day. Let s get started! I stated
I happily worked with Universal Pictures for about 2 years and then I got the best idea in the entire
world!
UB? GET IN HERE NOW! I screamed at the top of my lungs.
What?! What did you do now? retorted Ub.
Look at this sketch I made of this adorable little bunny, I said, showing him the sketch of a bunny with
long black ears and blue shorts.
That looks great, Walt. But what are you going to call him? Ub asked.
I was thinking Oswald, yeah... Oswald the Lucky Rabbit!
That s a great name! Let s make some shorts featuring him!
I produced a short with him and he was a great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have so many fans now! Ub, without you, this wouldn t have been possible. I was so popular, I even
had an honorary star for Mickey on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and an exclusive club for Mickey

Good morning, Mr. Disney, a young boy said to me one morning before a meeting for the Mickey
Mouse Club.
Why, good morning Samuel. How are you today?
Just fine, sir. I can t wait for the meeting to start! After the meeting was over, Ub walked over to me.
Walt, the short has become so popular, you have to make at least 12 shorts a year! Also, The Jack
Benny Program has asked me if you can appear on their show tonight.
Of course. Wow, I m probably going to be busy for the rest of my life! I joked. Later that evening, I
met Jack Benny himself and he was very interested with Mickey.
So, Walt Disney! The creator himself! What influenced you to create Mickey Mouse?
Well, after Universal Pictures took the rights to another character I made, I decided not to give up so I
created Mickey Mouse.
Is there anything you would like to say to your fans that are listening to our show right now? Jack
asked me.
I only hope that we don t lose sight of one thing that is was all started by a

The Chinese Traditional Culture Influences On The Outdoor...
2.1.2. The Chinese Traditional Culture influences on the Outdoor Leisure and the Nature
As for the definition of nature , western definition of nature is in its literal meanings embodied in
wildness e.g. natural landscape and wild things, which is intact from human interventions, while
unlike Western culture s definition of nature, Chinese traditional culture emphasizes the coexistence
between human and nature.
Leisure (xiu xian) in the ancient Chinese study will uncover the relationship between ancient Chinese
and their relationships with nature. Chinese xiuxian would be the most appropriate explanation for the
western word leisure, the characters of Xiu and Xian (休,闲) from its literally speaking that they
represent the ancient Chinese understandings for the nature ( people rest beneath the tree), only
through nature could human being rest and relax.
The concept of leisure also contains harmonious relationships between human beings and nature, with
humans being considered part of nature. Thus, the nature should not be offended by human beings, but
we should take the reverence and references or clues from nature to be natural. Going through ancient
history, the Chinese ancestors used the term Tian di (heavens and the earth) to mean nature and treated
them as divine. The earth receives the seeds of the five grains and cares for the six domestic animals,
enabling people to live in abundance, while the heavens bestow sunlight and rain, as well as the cyclic

Essay on Aileen Wuornos
Hannah Velez FLM 400 Final Paper Aileen Wuornos: The Dark Tale of One Woman s Descent into
Infamy When did it all begin? Technically, Aileen became a murderer on December 1, 1989 when 51
year old electrics shop owner Richard Mallory picked her up on I 75 (8) and together they drove off
into the woods to meet an uncertain fate. But when did the murderous creature that is Aileen Wuornos
come to be? She began prostituting herself as age 9 (5), without so much as an assault charge related
to her profession for 24 years while working the streets. Yes, she was a hitchhiking prostitute that
became famous for murdering and robbing seven of her johns, but what was it in her that snapped?

The two women were together for over three years when one day Aileen returns home to the motel
room which they rented, but this time she had a car with her that she claimed she borrowed from a
friend (5). From December 1, 1989 to November 19, 1990 Aileen was responsible for the deaths of
seven men, all of who were johns of hers (7): Richard Mallory, December 1, 1989; Dick Humphreys,
May 19, 1990; Charles Carskaddon, May 31 1990; Troy Burress, July 30, 1990; Peter Siems,
September 11, 1990; Walter Antonio, November 19, 1990; and David Spears, May 19, 1990. David
Spears was the only man she was not convicted of killing. She carried a gun with her at all times; the
murder weapon was a .22 caliber handgun a small gun, generally carried by women and generally
intended for self defense. During her many trials, the recovered handgun, which Aileen had dumped in
a river, was forensically matched to four of her victims (5). Aileen s modus operandi was very
consistent across all of her crimes. She would pick up men as a hitchhiker, usually along I 75 (3).
Once in the vehicle, she would tell a sob story about trying to save up money to send for her children
(she had no dependents) and ask if there was anything she could do for them in exchange for a little
cash. She and the john would then drive off into the woods and settle on what services they wanted
and what the price would be. In interviews she

Hydrauling Fracturing is a process used in nine out of ten natural gas wells in the United States, where
millions of gallons of water, sand and chemicals are pumped underground to break apart the rock and
release the gas. Hydrauling Fracturing damages the land, contaminates drinking water, pollutes the air,
cause illness in surrounding communities and has aslo known to cause earthquakes (Goldman,
Jennifer). It has major threats towards our climate. Methane gas the main competed of natural gas is
less common but more potent to greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide 85 to 105 time more powerful
than carbon dioxide at disrupting the climate over 20 years (Goldman, Jennifer ).Water and Pollution
are also infected by this. In Texas and Colorado more than 3.6 million gallons of water are used very
time a well is fracked. Fracking fluids and waste have made their way to our drinking water and
aquifers (Hoffman, Joe ). The counter argument to this problems is fossil complains claiming that
these fracking fluids are harmless because they re roughly 2% chemicals and 98% other.
The Sierra Club enforces the environmental law and targets the most pressing issues of our generation
like climate change, fracking and tar sand and through strategic legal advocacy at the federal, state and
local level nationwide. The Environmental Law helps the Sierra club priority to campaigns such as

The Life Of A Beautiful Mantelpiece Sat An Unusual Bust Of...
Upon a beautiful mantelpiece sat an unusual bust of one Jane Austen. This bust was flanked by that of
Aristotle and Homer, leaving little space for anything else on the mantelpiece. Virtues for the earthly
realm and for the gain of the heavenly realm are ones that are in a continual dispute. MacIntyre try to
shed light on some the virtues that are taken up by Benjamin Franklin in his life to achieve earthly and
heavenly success. Malsbary adds onto this study of virtues by taking a close look at one virtue in
particular. Virtue has come through history, changing in some ways and staying the same in other
ways. Many people have seen virtues as the way to complete the life of man. Homer saw virtue as that
which fulfilled the social role the each man was born to take. Virtue was to do what one ought to do in
their stature of life. Aristotle then came and spoke of virtue as an end. The internal fulfillment of the
good of man has a nature end on earth. The Christian understanding of virtue was that which led to the
supernatural end as the goal for the good of man. Aristotle and the Christian understanding both
acknowledge the end of virtues is that of the good of man. Thus were the older forms of virtue. Next,
history comes upon the virtues of Benjamin Franklin. The man, who practiced the art of mind and
body, rhetoric and exercise, devised a different set of virtues that was to be used for the sake of utility
in earthly and heavenly success. He thought that the virtues needed

Characteristics Of The Comedy Genre
According to Christine Gledhill in The Cinema Book, genre was introduced to film as a response to
the need for standardisation and product differentiation . The comedy genre in particular adheres to
being historically, culturally and temporally contingent as it uses devices like satire to mirror society
and thus acts to entertain its audience and subversively bring attention to cultural matters. This essay
aims to explore all these different devices as well as the comedy genre itself. It will do this by
comparing and outlining the characteristic traits demonstrated in Arrested Development, Father Ted
and Friends.
Charting the recurring and typical characteristics of a specific genre like the comedy genre helps
differentiate what texts are within a genre and what texts are not. These particular traits characterise

The basic premise of Arrested Development places a rich and privileged family into financial and
legal straits when their property business, The Bluth Company , comes to financial ruin at the hands of
George Bluth s corruption and apparent treason.
This show is saturated in popular culture references as well as acting as a satirical parody of America s
involvement in Iraq. To take some specific examples from the show of this, one can see how this is so.
George Bluth, the head of The Bluth Company and patriarch of the Bluth family is arrested in the first
episode and the rest of the season tracks why he was arrested through his son Michael Bluth, who tries
to run the company while his father is in jail. It is soon revealed that George Bluth was arrested for
signing a contract with a property development firm in Iraq to build houses for Saddam

dollar exchange rate moved nearly 20 percent. Empirical studies demonstrate that FX volatility can
significantly affect companies profits.
Multinational businesses face several types of FX risk, including financial, translational, transactional
and economic FX risk. We focus here on economic risk, also known as operational or competitive FX
risk. Economic risk arises, for example, when a multinational business incurs costs in one currency
and generates sales in another. Profits may decrease if the cost currency appreciates against the sales
currency.
Multinational businesses have tools to reduce economic FX risk. They may use financial instruments
to hedge unfavorable FX moves, although doing so entails explicit costs. They also may change their
operations to reduce FX risk. For instance, they may change the denomination of cash deposits,
restructure contracts, relocate plants, or change the source of capital or production materials. They
may share FX risks with related parties or pass the costs or benefits of FX changes through to
unrelated customers or suppliers. But even businesses that hedge or optimally structure their
operations to reduce FX risk may be disadvantaged if a competitor experiences a favorable FX move.
The project started with the primary objective of understanding the foreign exchange risk exposed at

  • 5. Essay on Media Portray of Environmental Issues The way that media has portrayed environmental issues has changed radically in the past few years. Environmental issues often aren`t considered newsworthy unless something large scale occurs with a notable impact on everyday life. The BP oil spill in 2010 made front pages world wide, there was a sudden push for the rescue of marine life and a general disgust for the condition of the Gulf Coast. An outpouring of awareness came of this tragedy and mass media diligently informed audiences of every detail as the following cleanup events unfolded. Most environmental news is not front page material. The media gets the ultimate say in what is deemed as important. The typical newspaper reader does no read every single article, but rather skims ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Media draws from various sources to gather facts and assemble stories for their readership. When a story comes out about a new scientific discovery or an impending extinction of a species, the source must be considered. In a paper by Jeremy Corbett entitled Testing Public Uncertainty of Science he discusses how newspapers especially just don t have the manpower to go straight to the scientific source. Media often rely on information sourced from governmental and private entities rather than cutting edge scientific information. This allows them to provide information that is easily understood and likely widely accepted. Corbett gives the example of a magazine that cites scientific reports but changes their story constantly: cell phones cause cancer, no they don`t, then months later they are back to the initial assumption. Awareness does not necessarily lead to change. Just because an environmental issue is brought to light doesn t mean its going to pull at everyone s` heart strings and convince them to act. News affects everyone a little differently and some indicating factors include education level and interest in local, national, and international news. (Schafer, 2010, pp. 11 65) A survey cited in an article by Fredrick Saunders showed that in 2011, 70 percent of people who follow international news say that global warming is a serious threat, compared to 35 percent of those surveyed who do not ... • 6. Much Ado About Nothing Benedick Essay In my oral final, I will be exploring who the character Benedick is, from the comedic play Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare. I will speak a little about his identity at the beginning of the comedy, then who he is compared to metaphorically, and finally about the development of his character throughout the play. Initially, Benedick appears as a character meant entirely for comic relief, acting as if the most crucial part of his personality is his wit and humor. However, by the end of the play he is noticed as someone who can think clearly and make important decisions. The biggest change in Benedick s character is risen from his relationship with Beatrice. And we can see this throughout the story as they are unable to converse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the beginning of the play, Benedick is portrayed as a character that strongly despised the idea of marriage and love, although these feelings slowly start to change as the comedy progresses. In the play, Benedick states that I never did think to marry (Act 2 Scene iii) even though he later declares I did not think I should live till I were married (Act 2 Scene iii). Through these quotes it is clearly shown that Benedick is self contradictory, which marks a critical turning point for the development in Benedick s character as his earlier opinions of marriage, ... Gender roles place the grandmother in the kitchen preparing a feast for her grandson who is visiting; providing for men has been practiced through generations, this perspective has been embedded in the mind as a norm. For instance, when the narrator s grandmother serves [him] green chile con carne between soft warm leaves of corn tortillas, with beans and rice her sacrifice (32 34). • 8. The Importance Of Creationism In Schools Creationism does not explain how the earth was created, therefore it should not be taught as a science and should not be taught in schools. My thesis is important, because schools are trying to stop teaching evolution because they believe it is not the way life on earth started. The teaching of evolution in schools is important, because it teaches students the correct reason for how life on earth started. The articles that I collected for my research, where academic journals from the library data base and had a stand point towards science. My paper will give the reader a broader view point on why creationism should not be taught in schools and how evolution should remain in schools. Creationism has been a controversial topic in our school systems and schools in some states are fighting to have it taught instead of evolution as a science. Creationism is the belief that all living organisms originated from a biblical process instead of evolution. We will never really know how the earth was created, but by the use of science, we can get a better understanding of it. Therefore creationism should not be taught as a science and should not be taught in school. The teachers are the people that have to deal with this topic the most because of all the pressure they get from school administrators, parents and the community. Some science teachers have been told not to teach about evolution, but they did it nevertheless. One of the most famous cases was the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I noticed that Abraham only talks about John Brown at the end of a very long speech very briefly, he does not show any respect to John Brown he only rubs it in that he died at his own phone. This makes me think Abraham Lincoln has no sympathy towards John Brown, especially because it is the day after his execution and he is basically insulting John Brown. Old John Brown has just been executed for treason against a state. We cannot object, even though he agreed with us in thinking slavery was wrong. That cannot excuse violence, bloodshed, and treason. I noticed that Abraham repeats the word treason . Treason is a crime of betraying one s country especially by attempting to kill the sovereign or overthrow the government. I think he uses the word to really justify that what John Brown did was inexcusable and that he committed a horrible crime and has betrayed the country. There are a lot of important things to do your freshman year, many of which I didn t start until much later. So here is some advice that will help you survive your freshman year, and prepare you for the rest of high school. Join a sports team or club High school is the time to try new things and discover what you enjoy doing. Joining a sports team or a club is a great way to find your interest and to meet others with that same interest. Freshman year is the time to join that sport you ve been wanting to try or that club that caught your interest during the club fair because you can always leave a team or a club, but you can never regain time for one you did not join soon enough. The hallways are for walking There are only 4 minutes for everyone to get from one class to the next; so please, please do clog the hallway. That includes, but is not limited to, going up the stairs on the left side or walking on the left side of the hall, walking in a big enough group to span the width of the hall, closing one of the doors in the hallway or neglecting to open one, or just walking at an annoyingly slow pace. An example of this would be College Credit Plus, which is helping students tremendously, or the Commercial Activity Tax, or CAT, which is driving small businesses out of the state, or even how Ohio still hasn t legalized recreational marijuana. A better way to fund public education would be to legalize marijuana. Marijuana is legal in Ohio, but only for medical use. It would be so much more profitable if it was legal for recreational use also. Not to mention, the people who do marijuana would stop being thrown in jail. Which is my main beef with it. The federal government paints marijuana as this terrible drug, Compared to those who don t use marijuana, those who frequently use large amounts report the following: lower life satisfaction, poorer mental health, poorer physical health, more relationship problems. People also report less academic and career success. For example, marijuana use is linked to a higher likelihood of dropping out of school. It s also linked to more job absences, accidents, and injuries (National Institute of Drug Abuse). Look, I really don t care how high people get off of marijuana, they can smoke until they don t know their own name. It makes me mad that people are getting thrown in jail over simply having marijuana on them, while people die of lung cancer from smoking cigarettes. An analysis of The Pardoners Tale, shows how personification and irony are not so funny when Death is involved. Death is personified throughout The Pardoners Tale. Personification occurs when an author gives living characteristics to something that isn t living. The first example occurs when the three rioters are drinking and they hear a funeral. The Animation Of Life In Frankenstein The Animation of Life by Stories: Literature and Society Doctor Frankenstein in Mary Shelley s influential novel never reveals the secrets behind the animation of his monster. Even still, the creature is suddenly thrust into being; thrust into an amalgamation of ebbing and flowing stories and forced to carve out a story of his own. It can be reasoned that everything which exhibits what we classify as life carries with it the capacity to simultaneously create and be shaped by stories. Shelley s intentional decision to keep the methods of the monster s creation hidden allows for the story of the monster itself to be what truly gives him life and consequently, the story of Frankenstein and his monster has breathed life into many modern discussions. ... (Shelley 151) It is interesting to conjecture that getting caught up in one s own story is the opposite of animating life, rather, the loss of life. When one is caught up in their own story, all other stories around it cease to be narratable. By figurative reasoning, when someone s story becomes un narratable, the life which the story sustains can no longer exist. Arthur Frank comments that stories are symbiotic, Stories and people need each other. (Frank 37) A person cannot live without stories and stories can be created, or destroyed, by people. The article notes that depression is such a complex mental disorder as well as alleviating it with cannabis. Because of the lack of testing on the relationship between cannabis and depression, there is no 100% statement claiming that marijuana can help depression in human trials, although there are promising lab tests on rats. The article clearly conveyed the testing, but was written according to an audience able to read at a fifth grade level, this is clearly visible because of the vocabulary as well as the sentence structure within the article. This is due to the fact that many Americans do not have the potential to read academic papers or research papers because lack of any higher education past a high school diploma. Have you ever found yourself sitting in class wondering why you had to be there? Well in Article 26 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that everyone has the right to education . The global movement Education For All, led by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization describes education as not only a right, but a passport to human development; opening doors and expanding opportunities and freedoms. Education is considered a human right and the education we receive should in fact be an adequate one. However, this is not the case if public education is leaving our students unprepared for college. Most schools in economically disadvantaged areas in the United States suffer from teachers who are underprepared and too often work in schools with poor working decisions, and low pay. The experienced teachers that these schools have tend to leave and the good teachers will do their best to avoid them. Most educators in poor areas are not as likely to have the same qualifications and skills as the teachers that are in advantaged areas. Most of the time teachers at low income schools are there in order to gain some experience so they can later on become more desirable by high performing schools. There are many inequalities amongst students, there are students in advantaged areas having twice as much spent on them as disadvantaged students. If you take a look at some inner city schools such as the ones in Chicago or New York, you would see that most of those schools have teachers not suited for their position along with overcrowded classrooms, damaged buildings, torn up textbooks. The purpose of the federal program No child left behind was to make sure that poverty stricken areas are funded. New York City used to hire teachers that had failed their licensure exam multiple times. Almost all French Canadians opposed conscription because they felt they had no loyalty to France and Britain. Other Canadians were at ease with the conscription as they supported the British Empire. The farmers, union heads, and pacifists were all opposed of the conscription like the French Canadians. I believe the Military Services Act was not the best choice because it ripped up the relations between the English and the French Canadians, it eliminated the freedom of the people by forcing them to go to war, and caused a riot in Quebec City leading to a few deaths. On the Easter Monday the crowds organized against the military presence in the city. Armed rioters started to fire at the troops and vise versa. There was an estimated four men killed by the fire and dozens injured. These riots represent one of the most violent disturbances in Canadian history. These riots erupted over conscription, which grew from how things were before in French Canadian nationalism. The military crackdown that lasted in Quebec until the end of the war resulted in an increase in state power in the growing of French Canadian nationalism. These riots over the conscription and the French Canadians sticking to their ways lead to a many difficult and unpleasant times in Quebec. The Military Services Act had more cons than pros as it destroyed the relationship of the English Canadians and the French Canadians, it limited the freedom of the males by forcing them to attend war and fight, and also caused a dangerous and damaging riot in Quebec. By the spring of 1918, the government had amended the Military Services Act so that there were no exemptions. This left many English Canadians opposed. The war ended within a few months but the issue left Canadians divided and distrustful of their government. Basic Parameters That Affect The Performance in RTOS 7.1 Multi tasking and preemptable: In RTOS the system have to be multitasking and preemptable because those two features make the RTOS Scheduler end any lower priority task to execute the higher ones or to release some resources for other tasks that urgently need those resources. Also the system have to handle different level of priorities of interrupts.(Yerraballi,R. 2000) 7.2 Dynamic deadline identification: In some scheduling algorithms such as (EDF)the deadline is converted to priority levels. Then we can control priorities by controlling the deadlines. Although such an approach is error prone, nonetheless it is employed for lack of a better solution (Buttazzo, 2005). 7.3 Predictable synchronization: The threads of the system need to communication and to be synchronized in a timely efficient and predictable way. 7.4 Sufficient Priority Levels: In the scheduling algorithms based on priorities. There must be enough levels of priorities. Priority inversion occur when a low level priority hold the resource that the the high level priority is waiting for or blocked due to this resource, and the lower priority is delayed because low priority task. Two workarounds in dealing with priority inversion, namely priority inheritance and priority ceiling protocols (PCP), need sufficient priority levels. 7.5 Predefined latencies: The timing of the systems must be predictable and this is done by defining task switching ... • 38. Racism Has Gone Back Underground By Richard Pryor There s a lot more hypocrisy than before. Racism has gone back underground. Richard Pryor. This quote is a GREAT example of the current disadvantages black families are facing today and have been facing for a lifetime. In the 1910 blatant racism to an individual s face was something to chide someone about, but the racism hidden in our social structures have remained and is continuing to thrive. Structural racism in the U.S is defined as the normalization and legitimization of an array of dynamics that routinely advantages whites while producing cumulative and chronic adverse outcomes for people of color (Lawrence, Keleher). It is found in institutions such as, education, politics, and economics. As a mixed status family the individuals in my family have faced many disadvantages and some advantages at the hands of structural racism. It affected our access to Housing, the labor market, healthcare, and education. I asked four of my family members about their personal experience with structural racism and I will also include my experience in this paper. To begin, housing discrimination is discrimination based on protected class status, race, ethnicity and so much more in the realm of housing and real estate. It can lead to racial segregation and housing inequality. It began to occur in the United States after the abolition of slavery as part of federal law. In John 1:29 (New International Version), He is known as The Lamb of God , and many other passages in the Bible. One of the things the author of this poem wants people to know is that lambs are sweet and gentle. By saying that, he is also stating that God is sweet and gentle as well. In the first stanza, the speaker asks who the lamb s creator is; however, the answer is not told until the end of the poem. Here is where one would find a physical description of the lamb, which is seen as a pure and gentle creature. In the second stanza, however, the lamb is compared with baby Jesus, as well as between the lamb and the speaker s soul. In the last two lines of the poem, the speaker identifies the creator as God. It seems that Blake asks who made thee in one of his other poems, which is known as a companion to The Lamb, and it is called The Tiger. Blake likes to question who could be responsible for these creations. The speaker of the poem makes a direct reference to Jesus from the Bible in line seventeen. The child speaker said, He became a child. Jesus, the Son of God, was sent down from Heaven to be born of a virgin. Jesus took the form of a child because just like a lamb, they resemble innocence, peace, and gentleness. Christ is peace, gentle, caring, complex, and simple at the same time. • 41. The Benefits Of Irreversible Enzyme Inhibitors Enzyme inhibitors are molecules that bind to enzymes to decrease their activity. Many drugs are enzyme inhibitors because by blocking the enzymes activity it can kill pathogens (shpanskaya and Melechko, 2008) Enzyme inhibitors assist in altering the catalytic action of an enzyme in order to slow down or stop catalysis (Worthington biochemical corporation, 2015). Inhabitation can either be reversible or irreversible. During irreversible inhabitation the inhibitor detaches slowly from its targeted enzyme as it is tightly bound to the enzyme by covalent or noncovalent bonds. Important drugs such as penicillin are irreversible inhibitors. The penicillin covalently modifies the enzyme transpeptidase which prevents synthesis of bacterial cell walls consequently killing off the bacteria (Biochemistry, 2002) As opposed to irreversible inhibition, reversible inhibition is a rapid detachment of the enzyme inhibitor because the inhibitors bind to the enzymes with non covalent bonds. Unlike irreversible inhibitors, reversible inhibitors do not have chemical reaction and can be broken down easily by methods such as dilution (shpanskaya ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Chinese Traditional Culture influences on the Outdoor Leisure and the Nature As for the definition of nature , western definition of nature is in its literal meanings embodied in wildness e.g. natural landscape and wild things, which is intact from human interventions, while unlike Western culture s definition of nature, Chinese traditional culture emphasizes the coexistence between human and nature. Leisure (xiu xian) in the ancient Chinese study will uncover the relationship between ancient Chinese and their relationships with nature. Chinese xiuxian would be the most appropriate explanation for the western word leisure, the characters of Xiu and Xian (休,闲) from its literally speaking that they represent the ancient Chinese understandings for the nature ( people rest beneath the tree), only through nature could human being rest and relax. The concept of leisure also contains harmonious relationships between human beings and nature, with humans being considered part of nature. Thus, the nature should not be offended by human beings, but we should take the reverence and references or clues from nature to be natural. Going through ancient history, the Chinese ancestors used the term Tian di (heavens and the earth) to mean nature and treated them as divine. Virtues for the earthly realm and for the gain of the heavenly realm are ones that are in a continual dispute. MacIntyre try to shed light on some the virtues that are taken up by Benjamin Franklin in his life to achieve earthly and heavenly success. Malsbary adds onto this study of virtues by taking a close look at one virtue in particular. Virtue has come through history, changing in some ways and staying the same in other ways. Many people have seen virtues as the way to complete the life of man. Homer saw virtue as that which fulfilled the social role the each man was born to take. Virtue was to do what one ought to do in their stature of life. Aristotle then came and spoke of virtue as an end. The internal fulfillment of the good of man has a nature end on earth. The Christian understanding of virtue was that which led to the supernatural end as the goal for the good of man. Aristotle and the Christian understanding both acknowledge the end of virtues is that of the good of man. Thus were the older forms of virtue. Next, history comes upon the virtues of Benjamin Franklin. Economic risk arises, for example, when a multinational business incurs costs in one currency and generates sales in another. Profits may decrease if the cost currency appreciates against the sales currency. Multinational businesses have tools to reduce economic FX risk. They may use financial instruments to hedge unfavorable FX moves, although doing so entails explicit costs. They also may change their operations to reduce FX risk. For instance, they may change the denomination of cash deposits, restructure contracts, relocate plants, or change the source of capital or production materials. They may share FX risks with related parties or pass the costs or benefits of FX changes through to unrelated customers or suppliers.
