Synthesis Of 2-Methyl-1-Butene Lab Report
The purpose of this experiment was to synthesize 2 methyl 1 butene and 2 methyl 2 butene. We later
confirmed the alkenes in each product with Baeyer and Bromine test. Through Gas liquid
chromatography we could calculate the yield percentage. E1 and E2 are similar yet, different
reactions. In the E1 reaction, the rate determining step is the loss of the leaving group when the mixed
with a solvent and an energy source is provided, in this case it was heat. This step produces a
carbocation. A tertiary carbocation is preferred because it is more stable than a primary or secondary
carbocation. The solvent takes a Hydrogen away from the beta carbon and the pair of electrons go to
the bond between the alpha and beta carbon creating an alkene, as shown in Figure 1. Essentially, E1
is two steps, the loss of a leaving group and a formation of a carbocation. Figure 1. Mechanism of E1
reaction. The image above shows an example of the mechanism behind the E1 reaction. The leaving
group, Bromine, leaves and a carbocation is present as a result. In E2 reaction, a strong base is used.
The leaving group is also lost but, at the same time the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The beta carbon is selectively chosen. The dominate product is created and it is called the Zaitsev
major product. Zaitsev rule says that the carbon that is more likely to loss hydrogen proton is the one
with fewer hydrogens (Kelin, 2012). This is because hyper conjugation. In hyper conjugation, the beta
carbon is chosen to have one of his hydrogen to be remove because it has more carbons around it. The
more carbons around the beta carbon essentially helps stabilize the carbon because when the proton is
removed, the beta carbon becomes very unstable. The result is a double bond formed between the
alpha and beta carbon (one with less

Social Media And Substance Abuse
Social media is used widely by many across the nation, it is very prevalent in the lives of today s
college student and young adults to connect with friends attending different institutions or even
friends sitting just across the room. In a generation where technology is so heavily relied on and even
addicting to some, we have seen an increase of addictive behaviors. Does the overuse of technology
contribute to the rising alcohol and drug addictions as well as mental health issues? In this paper I will
discuss addiction and it s prevalence in the U.S. I will also discuss the use of social media in both
teens and adults and the effects it has on the use of alcohol and drugs.
What is addiction?

The frontal lobe of the brain helps individuals determine consequences from current actions, and it
also helps determine what is good or bad behavior. The development of the brain is lengthy and
reaches well into adulthood. This lengthy development explains the adolescents urges to seek out new
potentially dangerous situations and act impulsively.
Children have beliefs about alcohol, those beliefs are usually established by school age. School age
children generally believe alcohol is bad and understand the adverse effects of alcohol however
adolescents beliefs shift to a more positive view and adolescents who drink will express the positive
euphoric effects of alcohol.
Environmental factors also play a very large role in likeliness that adolescents will use alcohol.
Adolescents with parents and peers that use alcohol are more likely to view the use as acceptable.
Research is currently examining the impact of media as an environmental factor. (National Institute of
Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism) Today alcohol is aggressively promoted through media outlets like

The Shipping News Proulx Qualities
As empathetic beings, it is always refreshing to see when the one with less advantages rises above
adversity to end on top. In The Shipping News Proulx uses the underdog archetype to portray the
journey one may seek when the odds are stacked against them by her writing style and point of view
to create the strongly composed characters in her book.
In the book, The Shipping News, I believe that Proulx s composition and characterization of her
characters is impeccable. In a book where the character s fate is determined by their looks and
physical attributes, it is essential that Proulx heavily stresses how the characters are composed
physically. For example, Quoyle (the protagonist), is said to have A damp loaf of a body. At six he

As I discussed above, Proulx does not write properly , or in complete sentences. Some examples of
this are Quoyle at a rack of comic books, studied a gangster firing a laser gun at a trussed woman.
They always wore green suits. He paid for the dolls. The man s finger dropped cold dimes (Proulx 37)
and She snorted into her handkerchief, waited in the gathering darkness, moving back a few steps at a
time as she tide the advance, until Warren floated free, moved West along the shore, edging out an out,
riding some unseen tidal rip. The sea looked as though it would sound if struck. Warren gliding away.
Sailed out of sight, into the sailing sun. Just like the westerns. (Proulx 98) Based on these quotes, we
can see that her diction/syntax is simplistic, shortened, and condensed not only for enjoyment, but to
get the point across without any fluff . This writing style is perfect for this book, because it juxtaposes
the complexity of the character with the simplistic words she chooses to write

Kant s Philosophy Of Philosophy
The eighteenth century German philosopher, tutor and professor, Immanuel Kant, contributed highly
complex deontological works of philosophy during the time of the Age of Enlightenment an era when
learned men in society urged others to live according to reason and individualism, rather than
continuing simply to follow tradition. This was a time for questioning, for employing scientific,
evidentiary knowledge where once there had been action only according to faith, to unsupported
beliefs. Kant s works aided in bringing important changes to the fields of epistemology and
metaphysics; changes most famously outlined in his work, Critique of Pure Reason (1781). This was
followed by: Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals (1785); Critique of Practical Reason (1788);
and Metaphysics of Morals (1798). Despite their importance in the philosophical canon, Kantian
ethics have the power to confound, imbued as they are with contradiction, and the flaws that
inevitably attach to human thinking and reasoning in context with experience. Kant believed in acting
from duty above all else, and that to do so in a moral fashion meant that one should act free of any self
interest or direct inclination for example, even if one were to feel so grief stricken as to wish for death,
one s duty would be to continue to live rather than taking one s life; but the action of continuing to live
would derive moral worth only from the choice to live for the sake of duty, and not because one had

How Does Marie Curie Affect Society
Marie Curie s Effects on Today s Society Marie Curie once said I was taught that the way of progress
was neither swift nor easy. Throughout her life, she was to learn this lesson over and over again.
Despite the many obstacles standing in her way, she made incredible progress in numerous fields and
shook the world, not to mention the scientific community, to its very core. In 1896, Henri Becquerel
observed some rays of unknown nature (Madame Curie, p. 153) radiating off of uranium salts. Marie,
fascinated by these rays, took to studying this interesting phenomenon herself. As a result of these
studies, she discovered an entirely new field of science, and coined the term Radioactivity. She also
discovered two new elements, polonium and radium. This lead to the discoveries of new elements by
other scientists. The next year, 1899, André Debierne discovered actinium. In just a few more years,
there became a global race to element discovery. It was a fruitful pursuit, to which we owe
mesothorium, radiothorium, ionium, protactinium, and radio lead. (Madame Curie, p.194) The
discoveries of these new elements led to our knowledge of science to change in new and dramatic
ways. A lot of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Two American scientists brought to her attention the fact that radium emitted small amounts of helium
gas. They published a paper on what they called The Theory of Radioactive Transformation. At the
time, scientists believed that atoms were constant and unchangeable. But the two American scientists,
Ramsay and Soddy, demonstrated that Radio elements, even when they seemed to be unchangeable,
were in a state of spontaneous evolution... (Madame Curie, p.195) This changed everything.
Textbooks were rewritten, old theories and hypotheses revised or destroyed, to fit this new truth:
atoms and elements underwent The transmutation of simple bodies, as Pierre Curie, Marie s husband,

Hewlett Packard s Unethical Investigation
Unethical Investigation The fourth amendment to the United States constitution tells us that the right
of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches
and seizures, shall not be violated . In other words, it is illegal for persons to go through your things
without your consent or knowledge. This is fairly straightforward and simple, right? Not exactly!
Patricia Dunn was accused of hiring private investigators to investigate members of the board of

So far it seems like Dunn s hands were clean as she did not know the private investigators were using
the process of pretexting to gain the information. Then she admitted to receiving emails telling her

resignation Patricia Dunn stated, The unauthorized disclosure of confidential information was a
serious violation of our code of conduct (Patricia Dunn resigns from HP board, 2006). Not only did
Dunn resign, so did Kevin Hunsaker, HP s senior director of ethics and company lawyer, and also

Descriptive Essay About The Galapagos
It was a seven hour flight to get from New York City to Guayaquil, Ecuador. After going through
customs I was finally greeted by my colleague, whom I would be working on this research with. Our
flight to the Galapagos was not until the next day so we decided to rent a car to take a small trip to a
different island, off the coast of Ecuador.
Before setting off on our journey I took my colleague to Parque de Iguanas. This is a very common
tourist attraction because of how up close and personal you can be with iguanas that live in there. The
iguanas can be found relaxing on the stone pathway or the grass, but most are found on the trees.
Although they are extremely fascinating animals, they are not the focus of our expedition. After our ...

temperature was around the high seventies and there was a constant fresh breeze from the ocean. The
area was filled with tourists, giving the island an atmosphere of a resort or vacation spot rather than a
site that influenced Darwin s theory of natural selection.
However, what made San Cristobal a critical aspect of our expedition was that it was home to
Frigatebird Hill. We took the tourist trail from the city center to Frigatebird Hill. We passed many
homes, tourist attractions, and hotels. Once at the hill we observed the difference between the

Risk Management of London 2012 Olympics
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Olympics are mega global event that attracts the attention worldwide with billions of audience
watching on television, while millions flock to events as spectators. The media embraces the
opportunity of covering every inch of the games. This kind of interest is what organisers face with no
room for error in relation to external attacks or system failures of the event although risks are bound to
occur to any project or program as in the case of Olympics. These risks may occur with a positive
impact to the organisers though they dread to have negative risks, which causes ripple effect to the
project. (Taylor, 2006)

As expected, experience is the best teacher to put things right the second time round. This applies to
Olympic organisers who strive to avoid risks as early as possible and to assure athletes plus spectators
and the public that steps have been taken to prevent risks. This can be in terms of tangible evidence
and intangible evidence. (Jennings, 2012)
Tangible evidence may relate to issues like the construction of Olympic village where all athletes
converge during the period of Olympic Games or the presence of security personnel to reassure the
nation and the public as illustrated in the diagram below.

Intangible evidence relates to laws as highlighted in the next pages or verbal correspondences through
which organisers use to reassure the nation, spectators, athletes and the entire world by use of radio

I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud Essay
I wandered lonely as a cloud is a poem written by William Wordsworth which is known as daffodils. It
was published in 1815 with a new revision after realizing there were words that needed to be changed
in Poet in Two Volumes edition (Abishek, 2013). This poem is one of the examples of romantic era. I
love this poem because the content is related to nature. It is true with the statement from Xiaolin
Huang, Feifei Pei, and Changle Fu (2014) that William Wordsworth often called himself as A
Worshiper of Nature so everyone called him as a poet of nature. He thought that nature could

The first stanza tells that the poet was wandering alone to a place whereby yellow daffodils flies over
the hills and valleys with the wind flow. These daffodils grew under the trees and were close to the
lake. The breeze made these daffodils easily fluttering like they were happily dancing. While in the
second stanza, the poet saw these flowers shining and twinkling brightly like stars in the Milky Way.
They spread over a large area along the bay margin with a huge quantity. Moreover, in the third
stanza, the poet tells that both of lake and daffodils were also dancing. He shows that the daffodils
looked beautiful rather than the sparkling of the lake because the daffodils have more glee. Here he
shows the loneliness gradually turning into happiness because of his companions (lake and daffodils)
but he could not understand what he gained from his experience. For final stanza, it tells that
whenever the poet felt loneliness, he could remember the happiness when he saw the dancing
daffodils. In addition, we can take a look at the use of past tense along the poem which tells about the
poet s experience and the use of present tense is used only in the last stanza since the important
message of this poem is about the reflection of the poet s

Much Ado About Nothing By Shakespeare, Benedick And Beatrice
Introduction
Imagine hearing the news that your worst enemy is in love with you and cannot visualize a life
without you in it. Many people will never encounter this situation in their life, but you can picture the
conflicted feelings one might have after hearing this. The emotions might go from disgust to maybe
sympathy or even believing that you reciprocate this love towards them. But deep down, is this a love
worth pursuing? Can the love over power the habit of conflict or will the passion succumb to the
constant battles between the two personalities. Some might say that love can overcome anything, but in
reality, this relationship will be filled with conflicted emotions and opinions.

In Much Ado about Nothing, Beatrice and Benedick discover their feelings for each other by
deception. Benedick is tricked into believing that Beatrice is in love with him and vice versa. A
wedding follows the sneaky trick and although the love is clearly present, the disdain they hold for
each other will never disappear. Humans are creatures of habit, therefore the bickering and mocking
will continue throughout their lives together. Confirmation Beatrice and Benedick will never be at
peace during their marriage The long history of snarky comments and the vulgar insults cannot be
forgotten in just a couple of minutes. They got carried away with their emotions and their
conversations turned into things that no one would ever say to someone they really liked. For
example, at the masquerade party, Beatrice and Benedick speak to each other and while Beatrice is
pretending not to know who is behind the mask she says in regards to Benedick , Why, he is the Prince
s jester, a very dull fool (2.1.131). She deliberately attempts to belittle him and crush him. Comments
such as that may mitigate over the span of their relationship, but they will never end. When Claudio
and Don Pedro purposely let Benedick eavesdrop on their conversation about the passionate
sentiments Beatrice has for Benedick, the ball was set rolling for the romance between the two.

Summary Of The NovelThe Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe
To a child, fantasy and reality often intermix. Children spend their days believing in the stories that
they have been told, their implicit trust in authority figures lending them no doubt that what they are
hearing is the unshakeable truth. In a sense, all books become historical texts. Why would an adult, a
knowledgeable and trustworthy source, ever write anything but fact? For C.S. Lewis, this childish
outlook on the world ensured that his novel The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, would take root in
the minds of children like an unkillable weed, affecting an entire generation, and well beyond. The
Catholic themes within the novel, while rather obvious to an adult, were hidden well enough to be
altogether invisible to its young audience. Lewis likely included these themes and ideals to gently
encourage a more religious and Catholic generation in the future. Originally an atheist, Lewis
converted to theism at the age of thirty and ultimately converted to Catholicism two years later,
(About C.S. Lewis). This shift towards a religious mindset was likely due to the death of his father in
September of 1929, the same year Lewis abandoned atheism, (About C.S. Lewis). Death is hard for
everyone, and Lewis likely wanted to believe that his father was in a better place, and that they would
one day meet again. Prior to his conversion, Lewis had published only two books, both written under
the pseudonym of Clive Hamilton, (About C.S. Lewis). Neither featured any aspects of the

The Idea Of Intellectual Property
The idea of intellectual property has many correlations with the concept of the marketplace of idea.
According to a common argument, intellectual property rights spark innovation, creating positive
economic growth and benefits for all. Because the marketplace comparison is an economic one, there
is a tendency to tie intellectual property with the marketplace of ideas. The key argument arises
whether ideas intangible resources, can be protected as property using the same concepts and social
processes that protect tangible property. The concept of property stems from scarcity. Which is, the
basic economic problem that results from people having unlimited wants but limited resources.
Scarcity doesn t explicitly mean unattainable or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Humans are lazy. People prefer satisfying their needs and wants the easiest way that they can. The
question then becomes whether an individual should be given societal protection through an artificial
scarcity. Why is there such a large plea for these protections? One possibility might be because
individuals prefer to get something for nothing, however still push for maximum efficiency.
Intellectual property rights are monopolies, in the sense that they indirectly take away labor in order to
preserve energy flows.
Imagine what the future may be like in fifty years with continual technological advances and the
possibility of creating intelligent machines that can construct roads, plant and produce foods, and even
build homes. Eventually, individuals will have little to no contribution in these processes. These
technologies will eventually appear as perpetual motion because individuals will receive something
for spending little to no time or energy. If all of our wants and needs were readily available, we would
then start to question the use of a monetary exchange system. Now, what would the incentive be for
protecting intellectual property rights? There most likely wouldn t be one and every inventor will
create for the sole purpose of creating. This possible, future, scenario is exactly where we are headed
regarding intellectual property rights. Everybody wants to make the

Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was signed into law by President Barack Obama in
March of 2010. This law provides equal access to medical care, lowered health care costs and
eliminates denial of coverage of pre existing conditions to the millions of the uninsured and insured
Americans that were without and denied health care coverage. Patients who were denied coverage due
to pre existing conditions can now look forward to relief and great improvement because their illness

The Affordable Care Act is providing medical care at an affordable rate and can decrease extra stress
and strain on families that struggle and have previously tried to meet their basic needs, let alone high
medical debt. According to Medicaid.gov, Children s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) provides
quality medical coverage to families that can t qualify for Medicaid or private insurance (Services,
2014). One of the major advantages of having insurance for children and teens is having the benefit of
having access to vaccinations. Disease prevention is the key to a happy and healthy start. If you have
healthy children, it can be a plus for their learning in school by reducing unnecessary days out of
school because of illness. By providing access to medical care, it also reduces unnecessary emergency
department visits.
One of the cons of the PPACA could be the tax penalty for not carrying insurance coverage. The
penalty starts at $95 or 1% of income, whichever is greatest. If the family or individual still chooses
not to carry insurance, the penalty will rise each year. It doesn t seem fair to make people choose

A Study Area Is The Region Of The U.s. Lake
A study area is the region of the U.S. Lake States, including Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. In
the region, about 27% of the estimated 20.8 million people reside in rural areas. Over 96% of the lands
are considered as rural areas. Traditionally, the region had economically dependent on natural resource
extraction and related low skill manufacturing industries (Hamilton et al., 2008). However, such
industries are recently weakened by globalization and rising policies on protection of natural
resources. Consequently, tourism based industries that depend on managed public lands not only
protecting natural resources, but also providing recreational opportunities have been considered as
important alternatives for local economic growth. Thus, an investigation of the relative impacts of
economic structures on income distribution can broaden our understanding of the role of each
economic industry in the distributional aspects of gateway communities.
There is no definitive way to define the gateway communities. In this study, I partly follow a method

The Influence Of Impressionism
Impressionist art, in its spectacular focus on atmosphere and the elusively delicate movement of light
and air, such as Monet s ethereal Vetheuil in the Fog (1879), was innovative, going against everything
taught as traditional and proper by the Salon authority. We see artists such as Manet defying artistic
traditions with racy confrontation in Le déjeuner sur l herbe (1863), and impressions of modern
middle class life, rather than historical figures, as we see in Cassett s At the Opera (1880).
Impressionists captured instants in time in the lives of the middle class people, rather than the classical
focus on divine scenes or images of the elite. The ground breaking beliefs and styles of the
Impressionists, along with their persistence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my opinion, all are influenced in some way, however minor, to the movements which came before
it, even if it is in the form of rebellion. I believe that together, all modern art movements, of which
there are even more than I have discussed here; treat us to a fabulous panorama of life and the extent
of human feeling. The depths of our darkest thoughts are plumbed in one painting, while the next
causes our heart to soar with the joy of feeling alive. Perhaps the famous Dada artist Arp summarized
art best, even from his own movement that tried to go against art itself, in that the work of art is
unfinished without us (TheArtStory.org, n.d.). Impressionist or otherwise, we become part of the final
work of art and complete

Indentured Servants In Colonial America
Labor in the British colonies in America consisted of African slaves who were typically permanently
enslaved as well as white indentured servants who worked for a specific amount of time and according
to conditions outlined in a legal document, as well as several combinations of the two categories. Both
the indentured servants and the slaves were essential to the growth of the colonial economy and
society as a whole because of their work. The rapid growth of the farming economy led to a
significant need for laborers which led to a chain of events resulting in slavery. By investigating the
contractual rights indentured servants had, the living conditions they experienced, and the way
indentured servants acted as a precursor for slave labor, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Farmers and masters of indentured servants began moving away from indentured servitude and
towards slavery after the first African slaves were brought to Virginia in 1619. The increasing demand
for tobacco and indigo also prompted a need for labor, and the African slaves were an even easier
method of labor for masters than indentured servants. Servants were also becoming more expensive.
As the demand for servants went up their terms got shorter and their contracts became less and less
favorable for their masters. In addition to this, the number of indentured servants had fell in the 1660s
due to a decrease in the English birthrate and a subsequent rise in English wages. All these factors
encouraged a shift away from indentured servitude and towards African slave labor. With no
regulations on slaves in place, owners were free to abuse the system and be as cruel as they

Traffic In Toronto Essay
Have you ever had any trouble with traffic? Most people would say Yes . Many people, who live in
Toronto, may have dissatisfaction with traffic. According to The Smart Growth Panel of Ontario ,
every motorist in the city spends their commuting time on the road by up to 30 percent during peak
traffic hours ( Toronto , 2015). Travel should be convenient and people could drive swift and accuracy.
However, the city of Toronto has too much construction, and there are so many illegally parked cars
everywhere. To solve these problems, the Toronto government should order illegally parked cars to be
towed than before, and the construction should be faster and more intensive. Much construction is one
of the problems of heavy traffic. The city of Toronto and Toronto Transit Commission planned various
construction projects throughout downtown this spring, summer and fall. The plans have 12 kinds of
construction projects only in downtown (Downtown construction, n.d). These projects are only
government works, private companies does not include in these projects. Due to these construction
projects, there will be shut downs in their construction sections many pedestrians will be
inconvenienced, also drivers (Downtown construction, n.d). As you might see, parked cars are

the closed lanes should allow using at least in peak traffic congestion time. In addition, the rest of the
construction work should be done as possible as fast and intensive by increasing the number of
government workers. If these ways are in progress, traffic congestion will be get better, and

The Pros And Cons Of Carpet Cleaning
There is a reason why some people are professionals in a field and others are either novices or simply
enthusiasts. Professionals are privy to certain trainings, tips, tricks, and industry insights into a
particular craft, since they surround themselves with it everyday. Novices and enthusiasts are self
taught or learned it on U tube, and may or may not have the right information regarding how to handle
a task. When it comes to tackling a home improvement project, the homeowner, who wants to save
money, attempts to take on the task alone, without the help of a professional. This is usually where the
trouble starts.
When it comes to carpet cleaning, calling a professional is the wisest decision. Due to the wide variety
of fabrics and materials used today, certain problems could arise, which only a professional would
know how to handle. That mysterious stain that nobody knows how it got there or what it is may take
a special product to remove. Using generic or grocery store bought cleaning agents can set a stain or
permanently discolor the carpet. Taking on a carpet cleaning issue without knowing the proper method
of removal or product to use may lead to a carpet that looks worse than before, and is now going to
cost more money than before. Below are some of the main reasons why it is best to contact a
professional carpet cleaning company before trying to remove a carpet stain ... Show more content on

This is why simply picking up a carpet cleaning solution at the local home improvement store and
taking the project on with nothing more than the instructions on the back of the container can be
dangerous to the carpet. Certain cleansers contain bleach, which will lighten or leave a yellowing
affect to a carpet, turning a removable stain into a bleached spot that will not come out at all. Once
you have a bleach stain on your carpet, there is no going

The Danger Of A Single Story By Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
he world is a diverse place. Many cultures, societies and religions, each of them having rich histories.
Due to such abundance of knowledge, being unaware of a society or culture is common. However,
having the wrong idea of a culture or a community could potentially be a devastating problem. In fact,
this is a prevalent problem as false lies about communities are easily spread out to group of people, the
so called fake news problem. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is an Nigerian author who addresses this
problem in her TED Talk at Oxford, England. She asserts that single stories of a place/community can
create a critical misunderstanding. Moreso, the problem is more pervasive than previously thought.
They are not necessarily harmful yet pervasive. For example, subtle stereotypes such as all Asians
only want to be engineers and doctors or every college dropout is an utter failure. Due to such
pervasiveness and consequences, open mindedness is of utmost importance in order to have a peaceful
and a more understanding world or in author s terms, When we realize that there is never a single story
about any place, we will regain a kind of paradise .
In The danger of a single story , Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie argues that having a narrow perspective
of a community, person or a nation can create a critical misunderstanding. Ms.Adichie provides an
example where she believed that only people with white skin and blue eyes can exist in literature
because all the characters in the books

Slavery And Canadian Identity
I think when Canada stopped slavery first it shows that Canada new everyone should be treated fairly
and everyone should have equal rights. Also this shows that Canada has pride for the people living in
Canada. If Canada had not stopped slavery first than the population in Canada would be low and also
Canada won t look like a good place for people to live in because of the time. That is why this event
really contributes to Canadian identity.
I think when Chinese immigrants were hoping to find a new life in Canada it contributes to the
Canadian identity because they thought that Canada is a great place to live in and they were willing to
be welcome in Canada because they were hoping to have a better life. When they got here, they

Remote Sensing of Aerosols, Clouds, and Precipitation
EDITORS
Tanvir Islam, NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, USA
Yongxiang Hu, NASA Langley Research Center, USA
Alexander Kokhanovsky, EUMETSAT, Germany
Jun Wang, University of Nebraska, USA
BACKGROUND INFORMATION AND READERSHIP
The atmospheric parameters, including, aerosols, clouds, and precipitation, play very important role in
our Earth s climate system. The climate feedbacks influencing the global climate variability are
directly or indirectly affected by aerosols, clouds, and precipitation, and thus, modulate the Earth s
radiation and surface energy balance. Therefore, global observations of aerosols, clouds, and
precipitation are crucial not only to better understand the processes involved in the climate system but
also to predict the future climate change.
Satellite remote sensing as a tool can be very valuable to acquire such global observations of aerosols,
clouds, and precipitation for monitoring Earth s climate system. In particular, some of the regions in
the Earth are not easily accessible to obtain in situ data while on those regions; space borne
instruments can act as complimentary data sources. Besides, large scale data mapping and monitoring
are only feasible with space based observations.
A good progress has been made in the recent years in dealing with remote sensing of the aerosols,
clouds, and precipitation using satellite measurements for global observations. Notably, the remote
sensing

U.s. Constitution And American Public Policy
America has come up with this predefined set of rules that everyone in our society must follow, Laws.
Laws have been thoroughly discussed and picked to assure that the nation runs smoothly. Americans
have their rights to certain aspects of life, but most of which are violated or misused by court officials
or government officials. Many years ago, people decided they would find a way to govern America.
They formed the U.S. Constitution, a form of government like no other by the people, of the people,
and for the people. With The Constitution in effect, laws had to be made. American Public Policy
explains how American Law in American Courts worked and why those laws were implemented.
Americans have their constitutional rights which were not limited, but government officials always
abused their power and tried taking the rights that we as American citizens have away. Those rights
included: Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion, Freedom of the Press, Due Process, Right to
Privacy, and Right to Keep and Bear Arms. The goal of all state courts was: no U.S. Citizen or
resident should be denied liberties, rights and privileges guaranteed in our constitutional republic. The
American law for the courts are needed to protect women and children because both are commonly
known to be discriminated against. American laws are being promoted because the government wants
to preserve the liberties of Americans. Americans are being ridiculed and lied to about their rights by
foreign laws

The Reason for High Gas Prices
One night, I was surfing the internet when I came across a picture showing a gas station with the gas
prices on a sign sitting in front of it. The gas sign said that the price for regular was an arm , the price
for plus was a leg and the price for premium was a first born . As I marveled over what Photoshop can
do, I began to think about these high gas prices and what is causing them. Everyone talks about,
complains about, and jokes about the high gas prices, but no one does anything about them. Many
people told me what they thought was causing the high gas prices, but I was always wondering what
really is causing them. Is it corporate greed or is it supply and demand? It is actually a combination of
both corporate greed and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I don t have anything against environmentalists, but sometimes I think they go overboard. It seems
like they care more about two animals on a wildlife acre then they do about the American economy
that helps employ hundreds of people, however, I don t think more drilling would really solve the
problem. An article in Time magazine stated that, Refinery capacity is not the major driver of higher
gas prices. The greater shortage is in the oil itself. Gas prices have been rising along with the price of
crude. If gas prices were climbing while crude oil s remained flat, that would tell you there was a
bottleneck pushing up prices. That hasn t been the case ( Why Gas Won t ). So while drilling more
would help, it would not solve the problem and might end up creating more problems like pollution.
According to CQ Researcher, refineries release many toxic particles into the air which can cause many
people to get sick (Cooper Air Pollution ). More refineries will cause the air to become more polluted.
Many people think that it is corporate greed and that putting a cap on gas prices would solve the
problem. Remember the 1970s, when people had to wait in long lines for gas? The reason for that was
because many places didn t have any gas to sell. Gas companies stopped selling gas to them because
the gas companies couldn t make a profit. They couldn t make a profit because there was a cap on gas
prices. Learn from

Essay Race and Political Power in the Pre-Civil War Period
Race and Political Power in the Pre Civil War Period
How did race translate itself into political power during this period, and how did Blacks attempt to
combat that power.
Racism has been the most provocative topic in American history; it has seemed to transcend other
struggles, and fester its way into almost every facet of American culture. It has grown like weeds in an
unattended garden in to the ideology of America. Politicians use it as a tool for reelection,
corporations use it as a way to exploit, and the media uses it as a way to control. But the underlying
question is where did it come from, how did it translate itself into political power, and how and what
did African Americans do to combat that power. Many of the answers to ... Show more content on

Central to these laws was the provision that black slaves, and the children of slave women, would
serve for life. This premise, combined with the natural population growth among the slaves, meant
that slavery could survive and grow even after slave imports were outlawed in 1808. This was one of
the first instances of race translating itself into political power in early colonial America.
By the middle of the 18th century slavery was widely accepted in the colonies. There was no way to
hide it, between 1680 and 1750 the proportion of slaves in America grew from 4.6 of the population to
over 20 percent. In the southern colonies slavery went from about 5 percent to 40 percent of the
population. Throughout most of the colonial period, opposition to slavery among white Americans
was virtually nonexistent. Settlers in the 17th and early 18th centuries came from sharply stratified
societies in which the wealthy savagely exploited members of the lower classes. Lacking a later
generation s belief in natural human equality, they saw little reason to question the enslavement of
Africans. As they sought to mold a docile labor force, planters resorted to harsh, repressive measures
that included liberal use of whipping and branding. That way of thinking would change, as the
colonies would move toward war.
The coming of the American Revolution would change the way Americans thought about slavery. In
response to their

he would ask was what the artist was trying to do. I believe the actors were trying to persuade the

White Noise Identity
DeLillo s White Noise focuses heavily on the idea of identity in a technologically advanced world.
Jack Gladney struggles with his own identity throughout the novel, and he desperately tries to hold
onto ideas that make him feel human. He believes children have a stronger sense of identity because
they have not yet been corrupted by technology or society. Many of his children were born from
different mothers and represent different phases of Jack s life, thus different identities. When Babette,
his most trusted and beloved wife reveals her affair, Jack struggles most of all and becomes obsessed
with the identity of her new lover. Personal identity becomes something clouded and hard to decipher

This kind of community transcends the poisonous media and the objectification of human life. For a
small time in the book, white noise becomes inaudible. This ends when everyone discovers that the
media took no notice of their suffering, making them angry. The final forms of identity in White
Noise are love and trust in others. From Babette, Jack gains strength in himself. He believes Love
helps us develop an identity secure enough to allow itself to be placed in another s care and protection.
Babette and I have turned our lives for each other s thoughtful regard (DeLillo 29). This passage truly
emphasizes why Jack feels shattered later on at the mention of her affair. Babette also struggles just to
tell him, and she constantly interrupts his statements and questions to tell him what the story is not this
is not the story of a wife s deception in order to save her own identity as a devoted wife (Wiese 12).
Jack then becomes obsessed with knowing Mr. Gray s identity most likely because he lacks security in
his own. He almost dies due to his need to confront this mystery man. To Babette he asks Do I kill him
and feel better? He doesn t have to know who I am. I make up an identity, I invent a context (DeLillo

An engagement in a gruesome ethnic cleansing must be treated as a felony, considering the amount of
fear and indelible scars targeted people had to deal with. Despite the certainty we have for its badness,
we soon face with the difficulty in determining the ways to rule and specify the committed crime for
the punishment. Simply put, Mr. Ruthless s argument that not having signed to the convention for the
ratification justifies his acquittal of the crime of genocide does not make sense at all.
Not given a single international treaty that defines and specifies the crime of ethnic cleansing, we
should refer to customary law (or treaties codified correspondingly) to rule this criminal. However,

  • 2. Synthesis Of 2-Methyl-1-Butene Lab Report The purpose of this experiment was to synthesize 2 methyl 1 butene and 2 methyl 2 butene. We later confirmed the alkenes in each product with Baeyer and Bromine test. Through Gas liquid chromatography we could calculate the yield percentage. E1 and E2 are similar yet, different reactions. In the E1 reaction, the rate determining step is the loss of the leaving group when the mixed with a solvent and an energy source is provided, in this case it was heat. This step produces a carbocation. A tertiary carbocation is preferred because it is more stable than a primary or secondary carbocation. The solvent takes a Hydrogen away from the beta carbon and the pair of electrons go to the bond between the alpha and beta carbon creating an alkene, as shown in Figure 1. Essentially, E1 is two steps, the loss of a leaving group and a formation of a carbocation. Figure 1. Mechanism of E1 reaction. The image above shows an example of the mechanism behind the E1 reaction. The leaving group, Bromine, leaves and a carbocation is present as a result. In E2 reaction, a strong base is used. The leaving group is also lost but, at the same time the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The beta carbon is selectively chosen. The dominate product is created and it is called the Zaitsev major product. Zaitsev rule says that the carbon that is more likely to loss hydrogen proton is the one with fewer hydrogens (Kelin, 2012). This is because hyper conjugation. In hyper conjugation, the beta carbon is chosen to have one of his hydrogen to be remove because it has more carbons around it. The more carbons around the beta carbon essentially helps stabilize the carbon because when the proton is removed, the beta carbon becomes very unstable. The result is a double bond formed between the alpha and beta carbon (one with less ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Social Media And Substance Abuse Social media is used widely by many across the nation, it is very prevalent in the lives of today s college student and young adults to connect with friends attending different institutions or even friends sitting just across the room. In a generation where technology is so heavily relied on and even addicting to some, we have seen an increase of addictive behaviors. Does the overuse of technology contribute to the rising alcohol and drug addictions as well as mental health issues? In this paper I will discuss addiction and it s prevalence in the U.S. I will also discuss the use of social media in both teens and adults and the effects it has on the use of alcohol and drugs. What is addiction? According to Substance Abuse and Mental Health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The frontal lobe of the brain helps individuals determine consequences from current actions, and it also helps determine what is good or bad behavior. The development of the brain is lengthy and reaches well into adulthood. This lengthy development explains the adolescents urges to seek out new potentially dangerous situations and act impulsively. Children have beliefs about alcohol, those beliefs are usually established by school age. School age children generally believe alcohol is bad and understand the adverse effects of alcohol however adolescents beliefs shift to a more positive view and adolescents who drink will express the positive euphoric effects of alcohol. Environmental factors also play a very large role in likeliness that adolescents will use alcohol. Adolescents with parents and peers that use alcohol are more likely to view the use as acceptable. Research is currently examining the impact of media as an environmental factor. • 4. The Shipping News Proulx Qualities As empathetic beings, it is always refreshing to see when the one with less advantages rises above adversity to end on top. In The Shipping News Proulx uses the underdog archetype to portray the journey one may seek when the odds are stacked against them by her writing style and point of view to create the strongly composed characters in her book. In the book, The Shipping News, I believe that Proulx s composition and characterization of her characters is impeccable. In a book where the character s fate is determined by their looks and physical attributes, it is essential that Proulx heavily stresses how the characters are composed physically. For example, Quoyle (the protagonist), is said to have A damp loaf of a body. At six he weighed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As I discussed above, Proulx does not write properly , or in complete sentences. Some examples of this are Quoyle at a rack of comic books, studied a gangster firing a laser gun at a trussed woman. They always wore green suits. He paid for the dolls. The man s finger dropped cold dimes (Proulx 37) and She snorted into her handkerchief, waited in the gathering darkness, moving back a few steps at a time as she tide the advance, until Warren floated free, moved West along the shore, edging out an out, riding some unseen tidal rip. The sea looked as though it would sound if struck. Warren gliding away. Sailed out of sight, into the sailing sun. Just like the westerns. (Proulx 98) Based on these quotes, we can see that her diction/syntax is simplistic, shortened, and condensed not only for enjoyment, but to get the point across without any fluff . This writing style is perfect for this book, because it juxtaposes the complexity of the character with the simplistic words she chooses to write ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Kant s Philosophy Of Philosophy The eighteenth century German philosopher, tutor and professor, Immanuel Kant, contributed highly complex deontological works of philosophy during the time of the Age of Enlightenment an era when learned men in society urged others to live according to reason and individualism, rather than continuing simply to follow tradition. This was a time for questioning, for employing scientific, evidentiary knowledge where once there had been action only according to faith, to unsupported beliefs. Kant s works aided in bringing important changes to the fields of epistemology and metaphysics; changes most famously outlined in his work, Critique of Pure Reason (1781). This was followed by: Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals (1785); Critique of Practical Reason (1788); and Metaphysics of Morals (1798). Despite their importance in the philosophical canon, Kantian ethics have the power to confound, imbued as they are with contradiction, and the flaws that inevitably attach to human thinking and reasoning in context with experience. Kant believed in acting from duty above all else, and that to do so in a moral fashion meant that one should act free of any self interest or direct inclination for example, even if one were to feel so grief stricken as to wish for death, one s duty would be to continue to live rather than taking one s life; but the action of continuing to live would derive moral worth only from the choice to live for the sake of duty, and not because one had any ... • 6. How Does Marie Curie Affect Society Marie Curie s Effects on Today s Society Marie Curie once said I was taught that the way of progress was neither swift nor easy. Throughout her life, she was to learn this lesson over and over again. Despite the many obstacles standing in her way, she made incredible progress in numerous fields and shook the world, not to mention the scientific community, to its very core. In 1896, Henri Becquerel observed some rays of unknown nature (Madame Curie, p. 153) radiating off of uranium salts. Marie, fascinated by these rays, took to studying this interesting phenomenon herself. As a result of these studies, she discovered an entirely new field of science, and coined the term Radioactivity. She also discovered two new elements, polonium and radium. This lead to the discoveries of new elements by other scientists. The next year, 1899, André Debierne discovered actinium. In just a few more years, there became a global race to element discovery. It was a fruitful pursuit, to which we owe mesothorium, radiothorium, ionium, protactinium, and radio lead. Two American scientists brought to her attention the fact that radium emitted small amounts of helium gas. They published a paper on what they called The Theory of Radioactive Transformation. At the time, scientists believed that atoms were constant and unchangeable. But the two American scientists, Ramsay and Soddy, demonstrated that Radio elements, even when they seemed to be unchangeable, were in a state of spontaneous evolution... (Madame Curie, p.195) This changed everything. Textbooks were rewritten, old theories and hypotheses revised or destroyed, to fit this new truth: atoms and elements underwent The transmutation of simple bodies, as Pierre Curie, Marie s husband, ... • 7. Hewlett Packard s Unethical Investigation Unethical Investigation The fourth amendment to the United States constitution tells us that the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated . In other words, it is illegal for persons to go through your things without your consent or knowledge. This is fairly straightforward and simple, right? Not exactly! Patricia Dunn was accused of hiring private investigators to investigate members of the board of Hewlett Packard. These investigators used a technique known as pretexting, a practice of getting your personal information under false pretenses (Federal Trade Commission, 2008). In this case the investigators called the phone company ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While she was legally forced to admit the pretexting and the reasons for Perkins resignation, was it necessary to put a name with the source of the leak? It seems as if she was going down, she was going to take as many people as she could down with her. It doesn t seem ethical to name Keyworth publicly as the source of the leak. He had already admitted it to the board explained his logic and he hadn t resigned at that point. So far it seems like Dunn s hands were clean as she did not know the private investigators were using the process of pretexting to gain the information. Then she admitted to receiving emails telling her about the tactics used and admits that these tactics were appalling (Kaplan, 2006). Upon her resignation Patricia Dunn stated, The unauthorized disclosure of confidential information was a serious violation of our code of conduct (Patricia Dunn resigns from HP board, 2006). Not only did Dunn resign, so did Kevin Hunsaker, HP s senior director of ethics and company lawyer, and also Anthony Gentilucci, manager of global investigations (Darlin Richtel, 2006). • 10. Descriptive Essay About The Galapagos It was a seven hour flight to get from New York City to Guayaquil, Ecuador. After going through customs I was finally greeted by my colleague, whom I would be working on this research with. Our flight to the Galapagos was not until the next day so we decided to rent a car to take a small trip to a different island, off the coast of Ecuador. Before setting off on our journey I took my colleague to Parque de Iguanas. This is a very common tourist attraction because of how up close and personal you can be with iguanas that live in there. This poem is one of the examples of romantic era. I love this poem because the content is related to nature. It is true with the statement from Xiaolin Huang, Feifei Pei, and Changle Fu (2014) that William Wordsworth often called himself as A Worshiper of Nature so everyone called him as a poet of nature. These daffodils grew under the trees and were close to the lake. The breeze made these daffodils easily fluttering like they were happily dancing. While in the second stanza, the poet saw these flowers shining and twinkling brightly like stars in the Milky Way. They spread over a large area along the bay margin with a huge quantity. Moreover, in the third stanza, the poet tells that both of lake and daffodils were also dancing. He shows that the daffodils looked beautiful rather than the sparkling of the lake because the daffodils have more glee. Here he shows the loneliness gradually turning into happiness because of his companions (lake and daffodils) but he could not understand what he gained from his experience. For final stanza, it tells that whenever the poet felt loneliness, he could remember the happiness when he saw the dancing daffodils. • 17. Summary Of The NovelThe Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe To a child, fantasy and reality often intermix. Children spend their days believing in the stories that they have been told, their implicit trust in authority figures lending them no doubt that what they are hearing is the unshakeable truth. In a sense, all books become historical texts. Why would an adult, a knowledgeable and trustworthy source, ever write anything but fact? For C.S. Lewis, this childish outlook on the world ensured that his novel The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, would take root in the minds of children like an unkillable weed, affecting an entire generation, and well beyond. The Catholic themes within the novel, while rather obvious to an adult, were hidden well enough to be altogether invisible to its young audience. Lewis likely included these themes and ideals to gently encourage a more religious and Catholic generation in the future. Originally an atheist, Lewis converted to theism at the age of thirty and ultimately converted to Catholicism two years later, (About C.S. Lewis). This shift towards a religious mindset was likely due to the death of his father in September of 1929, the same year Lewis abandoned atheism, (About C.S. Lewis). Death is hard for everyone, and Lewis likely wanted to believe that his father was in a better place, and that they would one day meet again. Prior to his conversion, Lewis had published only two books, both written under the pseudonym of Clive Hamilton, (About C.S. Lewis). Neither featured any aspects of the ... According to a common argument, intellectual property rights spark innovation, creating positive economic growth and benefits for all. Because the marketplace comparison is an economic one, there is a tendency to tie intellectual property with the marketplace of ideas. The key argument arises whether ideas intangible resources, can be protected as property using the same concepts and social processes that protect tangible property. The concept of property stems from scarcity. Which is, the basic economic problem that results from people having unlimited wants but limited resources. The question then becomes whether an individual should be given societal protection through an artificial scarcity. Why is there such a large plea for these protections? One possibility might be because individuals prefer to get something for nothing, however still push for maximum efficiency. Intellectual property rights are monopolies, in the sense that they indirectly take away labor in order to preserve energy flows. Imagine what the future may be like in fifty years with continual technological advances and the possibility of creating intelligent machines that can construct roads, plant and produce foods, and even build homes. Eventually, individuals will have little to no contribution in these processes. These technologies will eventually appear as perpetual motion because individuals will receive something for spending little to no time or energy. If all of our wants and needs were readily available, we would then start to question the use of a monetary exchange system. In the region, about 27% of the estimated 20.8 million people reside in rural areas. Over 96% of the lands are considered as rural areas. Traditionally, the region had economically dependent on natural resource extraction and related low skill manufacturing industries (Hamilton et al., 2008). However, such industries are recently weakened by globalization and rising policies on protection of natural resources. Consequently, tourism based industries that depend on managed public lands not only protecting natural resources, but also providing recreational opportunities have been considered as important alternatives for local economic growth. Thus, an investigation of the relative impacts of economic structures on income distribution can broaden our understanding of the role of each economic industry in the distributional aspects of gateway communities. There is no definitive way to define the gateway communities. In this study, I partly follow a method for Sphere of Influence of gateway communities suggested by the M3West study (Hester, 2013). Due to such abundance of knowledge, being unaware of a society or culture is common. However, having the wrong idea of a culture or a community could potentially be a devastating problem. In fact, this is a prevalent problem as false lies about communities are easily spread out to group of people, the so called fake news problem. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is an Nigerian author who addresses this problem in her TED Talk at Oxford, England. The climate feedbacks influencing the global climate variability are directly or indirectly affected by aerosols, clouds, and precipitation, and thus, modulate the Earth s radiation and surface energy balance. Therefore, global observations of aerosols, clouds, and precipitation are crucial not only to better understand the processes involved in the climate system but also to predict the future climate change. Satellite remote sensing as a tool can be very valuable to acquire such global observations of aerosols, clouds, and precipitation for monitoring Earth s climate system. In particular, some of the regions in the Earth are not easily accessible to obtain in situ data while on those regions; space borne instruments can act as complimentary data sources. Gas prices have been rising along with the price of crude. If gas prices were climbing while crude oil s remained flat, that would tell you there was a bottleneck pushing up prices. That hasn t been the case ( Why Gas Won t ). So while drilling more would help, it would not solve the problem and might end up creating more problems like pollution. According to CQ Researcher, refineries release many toxic particles into the air which can cause many people to get sick (Cooper Air Pollution ). More refineries will cause the air to become more polluted. Many people think that it is corporate greed and that putting a cap on gas prices would solve the problem. Remember the 1970s, when people had to wait in long lines for gas? The reason for that was because many places didn t have any gas to sell. Gas companies stopped selling gas to them because the gas companies couldn t make a profit. They couldn t make a profit because there was a cap on gas prices. Learn from ... • 32. Essay Race and Political Power in the Pre-Civil War Period Race and Political Power in the Pre Civil War Period How did race translate itself into political power during this period, and how did Blacks attempt to combat that power. Racism has been the most provocative topic in American history; it has seemed to transcend other struggles, and fester its way into almost every facet of American culture. It has grown like weeds in an unattended garden in to the ideology of America. Politicians use it as a tool for reelection, corporations use it as a way to exploit, and the media uses it as a way to control. But the underlying question is where did it come from, how did it translate itself into political power, and how and what did African Americans do to combat that power. Many of the answers to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Central to these laws was the provision that black slaves, and the children of slave women, would serve for life. This premise, combined with the natural population growth among the slaves, meant that slavery could survive and grow even after slave imports were outlawed in 1808. This was one of the first instances of race translating itself into political power in early colonial America. By the middle of the 18th century slavery was widely accepted in the colonies. There was no way to hide it, between 1680 and 1750 the proportion of slaves in America grew from 4.6 of the population to over 20 percent. In the southern colonies slavery went from about 5 percent to 40 percent of the population. Throughout most of the colonial period, opposition to slavery among white Americans was virtually nonexistent. Settlers in the 17th and early 18th centuries came from sharply stratified societies in which the wealthy savagely exploited members of the lower classes. Lacking a later generation s belief in natural human equality, they saw little reason to question the enslavement of Africans. As they sought to mold a docile labor force, planters resorted to harsh, repressive measures that included liberal use of whipping and branding. That way of thinking would change, as the colonies would move toward war. The coming of the American Revolution would change the way Americans thought about slavery. In response to their ... • 33. FAMU Connection Concert Report This past Wednesday night, I watched a high energy performance by FAMU Connection. This performance took me on a flight that I hoped would never end. This journey demonstrated Goethe s three elements portraying a storyline dealing with a group of college students. FAMU Connection was about a group of friends, from different places on a plane heading to Tallahassee, Florida, to attend college. However, one of their friends was not quite sure if FAMU was the right choice. During the flight, the flight attendants were stating the facts about Florida Agricultural One of Goethe s questions he would ask was what the artist was trying to do. I believe the actors were trying to persuade the audience to attend Florida Agricultural and Mechanical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. White Noise Identity DeLillo s White Noise focuses heavily on the idea of identity in a technologically advanced world. Jack Gladney struggles with his own identity throughout the novel, and he desperately tries to hold onto ideas that make him feel human. He believes children have a stronger sense of identity because they have not yet been corrupted by technology or society. Many of his children were born from different mothers and represent different phases of Jack s life, thus different identities. When Babette, his most trusted and beloved wife reveals her affair, Jack struggles most of all and becomes obsessed with the identity of her new lover. Personal identity becomes something clouded and hard to decipher in the world of White Noise, where media permeates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This kind of community transcends the poisonous media and the objectification of human life. For a small time in the book, white noise becomes inaudible. This ends when everyone discovers that the media took no notice of their suffering, making them angry. The final forms of identity in White Noise are love and trust in others. From Babette, Jack gains strength in himself. He believes Love helps us develop an identity secure enough to allow itself to be placed in another s care and protection. Babette and I have turned our lives for each other s thoughtful regard (DeLillo 29). This passage truly emphasizes why Jack feels shattered later on at the mention of her affair. Babette also struggles just to tell him, and she constantly interrupts his statements and questions to tell him what the story is not this is not the story of a wife s deception in order to save her own identity as a devoted wife (Wiese 12). Jack then becomes obsessed with knowing Mr. Gray s identity most likely because he lacks security in his own. He almost dies due to his need to confront this mystery man. To Babette he asks Do I kill him and feel better? He doesn t have to know who I am. I make up an identity, I invent a context (DeLillo 225). Once again, Jack shows his desire to be someone other than himself, to escape his life. In losing his total love and trust in Babette, Jack also loses more of his own ... • 35. Gruesome Ethnic Cleansing An engagement in a gruesome ethnic cleansing must be treated as a felony, considering the amount of fear and indelible scars targeted people had to deal with. Despite the certainty we have for its badness, we soon face with the difficulty in determining the ways to rule and specify the committed crime for the punishment. Simply put, Mr. Ruthless s argument that not having signed to the convention for the ratification justifies his acquittal of the crime of genocide does not make sense at all. Not given a single international treaty that defines and specifies the crime of ethnic cleansing, we should refer to customary law (or treaties codified correspondingly) to rule this criminal. However, there exists one vital thing we have to consider when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
