 As you go through the lesson, please take notes
and write down your solutions to the problems
to be turned in for later credit.
 Kinetic Energy
 Potential Energy
 Heat
 Electrical
 Chemical
 Light
 Nuclear
 In this lesson, we will only be focusing on
kinetic and potential energy. However, look
up the definitions for the others to be prepared
for a quiz in the future
 Kinetic Energy: the energy of a moving object
 KE=1/2mv2
 m=mass of the object (g, kg)
 V=velocity of the object (m/s)
 Ex: If a truck of mass 250kg is traveling at 5m/s, what
is the kinetic energy of the truck?
 Please click the correct answer:
 A. 3.13x103 J
 B. 4.11x103 J
 C. 3.11x104 J
 Potential Energy: the energy stored in an object
that has potential to be released
 There are two different kinds:
 Gravitational
 Elastic
 Stored energy depending on the force of
gravity and height of an object
 PE=mgh
 m=mass of the object
 g=the acceleration of gravity (9.8m/s2)
 h=height of the object
 Ex: What is the gravitational potential energy of an
apple weighing 150 grams in a tree of height 5.79 m?
 Please click the correct answer:
 7.62x103J
 9.63x103J
 8.51x103J
 The energy stored in elastic objects as a result
of stretching and compressing
 This week we only focused on gravitational
potential energy, next week we will go into
greater detail with elastic potential energy
 Please click here to see a short video that sums
up potential and kinetic energy
