The colour "Phthalogen Blue" is a generic term
for a series of copper and other heavy metal
phthalocyanine dyestuffs patented by Bayer in
the 1950s. This dyeing process produces
exceptionally brilliant and light-fast blues
(based on Cu) which can be shifted to blue-
greens (Ni) or darker blues (Co) depending on
the metal in the dye complex.Phthalogen is a blue phthalocyanine
ingrain dye.
Properties:
1. Less soluble in organic solvent.
2. Thermally very stable.
3. Do not melt but can be sublimed
4. Dissolve easily in sulfuric acid due to the
protonation of the nitrogen atoms bridging the
pyrrole rings.
5. Strongly absorb light between 400 and
550 nm, thus these materials are blue.

Application procedure:
DYE FIXATION:
For required shade%, this dye required heavy metal donor.
Copper donor are used for producing blue color in the
fiber.Pthalogen blue is the salt of copper metallic complex.
For getting the deep shade of blue, freshly prepared sodium
dithionite is needed with sodium hydroxide. On higher
heating dependent upon reducing agent and solvent
reduction to the metal pthalocyanine then takes place with
dye stuff being fixed.
