A Comparison of Olivier and Branagh s Adaptations of Henry V
Media Comparative Essay: (in the medium of film) concerning the 2 well known film versions of
Shakespeare s Henry V of Olivier (1944) and Branagh (1989) in the specific scenes of A Little Touch
of Harry in the Night and The Crispin Crispian Speech
A comparison of these scenes in the two film versions of Henry V indicated above in a discussion of
all the major cinematic issues in integrating a story like Shakespeare s and to include some discussion
of the relative success in conveying to a cinema audience the director s message.

Laurence Olivier directed and starred in it himself as a patriotic call to the barricades. Olivier greatly
aspired to become one of the greatest actors of the twentieth century. His attempt in the role of the
main character Henry was nothing short of this by delivering an epic performance in the midst of a
gay, colourful depiction of battle. Kenneth Branagh s production (1989) attempted greater realism in
the battle scenes and focused more on Henry s inner conflicts. There was not as much emphasis on the
patriotic elements of the play as in Olivier s. Branagh s film was constructed many years after Olivier
s predominant original when it was considered a classic. Olivier created a total advance in
Shakespearean film and gave dawn to colour filming. A young Branagh would have to direct and act
admirably to stand alongside the preceding version. He would have to successfully comply as a
Shakespearean actor to take the familiar and make it new . Branagh heavily scrutinised Olivier s epic
work, employing and enhancing many of the methods Olivier inspired and developed, causing
Branagh s film to be labelled sometimes as an emulation. Still there is an obvious (yet often subtle)
extent to which Branagh tries

Comparing J. Gordon Edwards And Richard Burton
During the twentieth century, more than twelve directors tried their hand at interpreting one of history
s greatest love stories. Each had their own lense that they used to craft their movie into a reflection of
themselves, their culture, or the time period in which is was created. J. Gordon Edwards s 1917 film
starring Theda Bara was extremely lavish and very risque. The version starring Elizabeth Taylor and
Richard Burton is known for both their on and off screen romance. Cecil B. Demille s version of the
tragic story was at the height of Hollywood fashion, inspiring stars and the average woman alike.
However, below the surface of Claudette Colbert s shimmering, clinging wardrobe for the film lies
another story entirely. The costumes in Cecil B. Demille s 1934 version of Cleopatra have influences
and symbols rooted in ancient Egypt, but are most heavily influenced by the art deco of the 1930s.
This can be seen in many of her dresses throughout the film, especially during her dinner with Marc
Antony and her surrender to Octavian and the Roman army. One example of this is in the slinky, gold
lamé dress Claudette Colbert dons as Cleopatra plots to poison Marc Antony. Not only does the figure
hugging gown remind the audience of her role as the temptress, but it echos strongly of the style of
1930s Hollywood. The ruched front was style that became popular in 1930s. Several of Madeleine
Vionnet s designs feature both a ruched front and mermaid bottom, which may have served as

Coors Light Advertising Examples
The chosen topic for my final paper is beer advertisements. The three beer types chosen for this paper
are Coors Light, Bud Light and Corona Light. Each of the beer company s advertisements is unique.
This paper will dive into beer history, light beer, what each company does in their advertisements, why
they do it, and then a comparison of the three chosen beers. Beer has been around since 1587 when
Virginia Colonist brewed ale using corn (Beeradvocate). Many years later and after beer becoming
popular, the prohibition happened in 1919 1933 (Craftbeer). This 18th amendment outlawed the sales
of alcohol in the United States (Craftbeer). In 1933 the prohibition stopped by President Franklin
Roosevelt who signed into the law legislation authorizing the sale of beer (Craftbeer). Around 1944
beer was known to be given to British and Allied troops during World War II (Craftbeer). Years later in
1972 hop is released to brewers and becomes a hallmark aroma and flavor for beer from American
small batch brewers (Craftbeer). Forty years later craft brewing sales share in 2012 was 6.5 percent by
volume and 10.2 percent by dollars (Craftbeer). There were 2,347 craft breweries operating in of all

My Life At Indian River State College
From a young age I have had a passion for sports. Not just a single sport but all sports. The
understanding of the sport either it be soccer, baseball, football, or rugby came easy to me and I was
always thought of an important player of the team from my coaches. I love being on the team yet still
performing individually. Late in my teens another passion developed and it too came easy for me. This
passion would be the performing on stage; Acting. The beautiful art of Acting has recently impacted
my life in a way I cannot describe. After success with other performances at my high school, I have
been encouraged to seriously step foot into the world of acting. Being enrolled at Indian River State
College will allow me to begin my journey and stay close to home but not for long. I plan to transfer
to seek my Bachelor s Degree in Sports Management and I may even double with a Bachelor Degree
of Fine Arts. I see my future as being someone who is in the spotlight. I plan on using my Bachelor s
Degree to achieving my goal of becoming a head football coach of an unranked University team and
raising them to the top and proceed to the Professional level. My focus will not be on me but on my
players. I will seek to find what motivates them individually and combine them to produce a winning
team. On a different note, I just might use my Bachelor s Degree to pursue my passion of acting. It is
hard to describe the feeling of being on stage in front of an audience and see their

Concepts Of Authority In Mohawk Interruptus By Audra Simpson
Authority is important for any leader or government, because that is how decisions are accepted as
right. Sovereignty is the recognition by other states that one government has the authority to control a
certain territory. As well as the acceptance of rule by the people One major reading that contests this
idea of sovereignty is the book Mohawk Interruptus by Audra Simpson, which discusses the trials of
Native American populations and their efforts to reclaim their own sovereignty. Within Mohawk
Interruptus, the people of the Kahnawá:ke tribe struggle against the colonial idea of American or
Canadian sovereignty lorded over them, and through refusal of such gifts regain their sovereignty. ...
Kahnawa kehró:non had refused the authority of the state at almost every turn and in so doing
reinstated a different political authority (Simpson, 2014, 106). Through these rejections, the people of
Kahnawá:ke and Kahnawa kehró:non established that the current system of sovereignty does not work
for them, as it is colonially based to oppress the Native American communities. Simpson uses these
examples to make a larger point on the Western systems of governance and understandings of
authority. Though this idea of sovereignty, Simpson argues, was a way to appropriate land and
incorporate or destroy opposing cultures. Through the research of Hannah Ardent, it is considered that
sovereignty has been used to forcefully assimilate minority populations of nations. Within her paper

Tax Evasion Is An Illegal Evasion Of Taxes By Trusts,...
An organized country and government owes a lot of fundamental obligation to the people it governs.
These obligations can take many forms like basic social amenities such good roads, health, security of
lives and properties, shelters, good water, retirement system...etc.
So the government applies taxes on its citizens to pursue the above stated objectives it owns to the
people.
The citizens of Lebanon living under the guardianship of the government owe also the government
many obligations, such as paying taxes...
Tax according to C.S Ola is defined as: non punitive yet compulsory levy on the income and
properties of individuals and organizations by government and which it does not account for, the
proceeds from the levy on trade the government uses to pursue the accomplishment of some social,
economic and political objective in the interests of its citizens
The tax evasion is the subject matter of this work. Knowing that tax evasion is an illegal evasion of
taxes by trusts, corporations and individuals. Tax evasion usually when the taxpayers misrepresent the
true state of affairs to the tax authorities to minimize their tax liability and may include also dishonest
tax reporting, such as declaring less income, profits, or gains than the amounts actually earned, or they
can do it in another way like overstating deduction.
In Lebanon, the citizens have an uncooperative and unprogressive attitude towards tax payment. But
obviously it is an agreed fact, that payment and collecting

Elizabethan Theater Research Paper
Architecture and style are two very broad categories when it comes to theater but over the years both
have shaped theater into what it looks like today. There are many different types of theater but today
Elizabethan theater will be discussed in a brief overview. In this paper, I will cover the history of
Elizabethan theater and what it is, the architecture style of Elizabethan theater and the theatrical life
and the establishment of permanent theaters. Let s take a look at some of the history and just what
exactly Elizabethan theater really is. Elizabethan theater, also known as English theater or English
Renaissance theater , refers to the theater of England between 1562 and 1642. Elizabethan theater is

Gigantic columns were used in many of the entrances to these types of theaters. More specifically, two
big columns in particular were known to be used in the architecture of Elizabethan theaters which
were called Herculean columns or pillars. These columns or pillars were elaborately painted to
resemble marble. As stated earlier, Elizabethan theaters were constructed so that the audience and
actors were displayed in the outside environments similar to an Amphitheater. This would mean that
the arena was open and sometimes the actors and audience would get wet if it rained, or sweat if it was
hot out that day. The size of the Amphitheater was usually around 100 ft. in diameter which is a decent
sized theater. The arenas themselves varied in shapes and included Octagonal or circular in shape and
would have anywhere between 8 and 24 sides. The material that was used to build the theaters
consisted of timber, stone, nails and plaster, later on Amphitheaters would have tile roofs on them.
Because theater was a priority in the Elizabethan time construction was completed relatively fast and
averaged about 6 months to complete. The overall design was an open air arena and it was commonly
called the pit or the yard . They had a raised stage at one end and were surrounded by three tiers of
roofed galleries with balconies overlooking the back of the stage, the stage projected halfway into the
pit (). Continuing with architecture of Elizabethan theaters the

Essay On Battle Of Stalingrad
During World War II, the battle of Stalingrad began in the city of Stalingrad, Russia and was fought
between August of 1942 and February of 1943. http://www.history.com/topics/world war ii/battle of
stalingrad It is still considered today to be one of Russia s greatest battles in which the Russian army
defended itself from invasion by the German army. This battle essentially stopped Germany s
determined advance into Russian territory. This marked a huge turning point in the war for the Allies.
It was a very important war because it crippled the German offensive as well as destroying much of its
army. The German army lead the offensive into Stalingrad using the German 6th Army and their elite

Still, from Berlin, Hitler ordered the army to continue the fight and promised General Paulus that
reinforcements would be sent. The Russian army would not give up. They trapped the weakened
Germans in the city. In January, General Paulus sent a message to Hitler requesting permission to
surrender. He knew any victory was impossible and the only thing certain for the Germans was death.
Hilter denied his requesting saying that the German army had to stand firm until the last man. Hitler s
pride was one of the biggest reasons the German s lost to Russia. Had he let his men retreat, regroup
and fortify themselves they would have stood a much better chance. Hitler was operating solely on an
out of control ego at that point and not rational thought. On January 31, General Paulus surrendered to
the Russian army. Hitler was furious with Paulus. The German s defeat at the battle of Stalingrad was
the beginning of the end of the Nazi regime. Hitler s control over his army and his army s confidence
in him was extremely weakened. All over Germany morale had sunk. During this time, Hitler made
many false promises to the people of Germany. One being that they would never be driven out of
Stalingrad. After their complete and utter annihilation at Stalingrad, the German public s opinion of
Hitler definitely took a turn for the worse. Hitler lost face both his military supporters and his political

Analysis Of The Painting Moving Day
The painting Moving day from 1967 seems to be about a black family who is moving to another
country. When a person who is different moves to another place, with other people, it s harder to
become a part of the people who is already living there. That s because they don t know anybody at
all. In this painting the black kids have a cat, and the white kids have a dog. I think that is a detail with
a lot of meaning. The cat and the dog are different, and they sometimes don t like each other because
of that. Dogs and cats can be friends too, but sometimes the dog can be (avstøtende), and not accept
the cats for who they are. That is exactly the same as black and white people do to each other.

Compare And Contrast The Poisonwood Bible
Contrasting Poisonwood Life isn t black and white and this is a sentiment that the book The
Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver tried to express. The aforementioned book is about an
American family from Georgia, which leaves the comfort of the USA to go to a missionary mission in
the country of Congo, in the town of Kilanga. Throughout the novel, it can be seen how the Congo
either changes or reveals the true personalities of its 5 narrators (Orleanna, Rachel, Leah, Adah and
Ruth May). This can be seen through the use of different motifs, some which even contradict each
other help bring life into this novel by creating complex characters and revealing how true
personalities are in their own way as, state before, life is not black and white, ... Show more content on

This is apparent by the use of the character s perspective about nature and the ultimate result it has
upon them. This is in its most apparent shape when Orleanna says We aimed for no more than to have
dominion over every creature that moved upon the earth... Now you laugh, day and night, while you
gnaw on my bones. But what else could we have thought? Only that it began and ended with us. What
do we know, even now? (Kingsolver 10). This quote by Orleanna about nature, shows the true power
of it regarding the motifs of freedom and captivity. This is seen because of the fact that there is a
progression and a change of thought that quickly evolves from the family and her thinking that they
had the freedom to have dominion over nature, to she surrendering to nature and saying that she is
captive forever because of nature that nature instead of being loving, betrayed her and is now seeking
for the forgiveness of it. Another way this is seen it when Leah said Its heavenly paradise in the
Congo, and sometimes I want to live here forever, (104). This extract from the novel at first glance
may not seem like an important passage, but it is considering the fact that she feels that she has the
motifs of freedom and love at her grasp as she feels free in the Congo and loves it. This ultimately will
not last as their contrasting motifs will eventually kick in making her a prisoner of the Congo by her
own merits keeping her captive in there for the rest of her life, while also betraying her because the
land and the nature inside it made her lose her little sister. Finally, this connects to the thesis and the
other paragraphs because of the fact that it shows this hope versus reality situation which is created
when these motifs are combined, furthermore it shows the colorfulness of life in the book because of
the fact that it shows the way

Stereotypes In A Separation
The complex drama, A Separation, is an Iranian film which won the 2011 Academy Award for Best

have to deal with issues surrounding gender and class in a heavily religious society. The film is
another example of how world cinema helps to shatter preconceived notions, and stereotypes. The film

Cinema allows you to learn about other cultures and religions than your own. Cinema can also open
people s eyes to what is really going on in the world. For example in this Arab world, many women
are subservient to men. The reason being is that this is just the cultural norm. In the film, Razieh fears
disobeyed her husband. However she takes a job without his knowledge. She must do so in order to
provide for her family. In this way, Razieh is going against cultural norms. In most societies, including
those of the Middle East, the man is always the provider. It is seen as disrespectful for a man to have
to rely on a woman to provide. A man s word is also law. Going against it can be dangerous. The
movie Wadjda, played with these themes. In the film, Wadjda is an Arab girl who is rebelling against
the cultural norms. She wants to be able to ride a bike, wear sneakers, and do everything else her male
counterparts get to do. She is punished and looked down upon for this behavior. For Razieh, it is not
so easy to break from her religious and cultural norms. However in the end of the film, when faced
with a dilemma, she follows her heart instead of her husband, and makes a decision that is morally
right to her. Showing women like this can have a powerful impact. Whether it be the strength Razieh
has to provide for her family, or the courage Wadjda has to want to be different, these women are

Essay on Current Status Of Malaria Vaccinology
Current Status of Malaria Vaccinology
In order to assess the current status of malaria vaccinology one must first take an overview of the
whole of the whole disease. One must understand the disease and its enormity on a global basis.
Malaria is a protozoan disease of which over 150 million cases are reported per annum. In tropical
Africa alone more than 1 million children under the age of fourteen die each year from Malaria. From
these figures it is easy to see that eradication of this disease is of the utmost importance.
The disease is caused by one of four species of Plasmodium These four are P. falciparium, P .malariae,
P .vivax and P .ovale. Malaria does not only effect humans, but can also infect a variety of hosts

At present people infected with Malaria are treated with drugs such as
Chloroquine, Amodiaquine or Mefloquine. These drugs are effective at eradicating the exoethrocytic
stages but resistance to them is becoming increasing common.
Therefore a vaccine looks like the only viable option.
The wiping out of the vector i.e. Anophels mosquito would also prove as an effective way of stopping
disease transmission but the mosquito are also becoming resistant to insecticides and so again we must
look to a vaccine as a solution Having read certain attempts at creating a malaria vaccine several
points become clear. The first is that is the theory of Malaria vaccinology a viable concept?
I found the answer to this in an article published in Nature from July 1994 by
Christopher Dye and Geoffrey Targett. They used the MMR (Measles Mumps and
Rubella) vaccine as an example to which they could compare a possible Malaria vaccine Their article
said that quot;simple epidemiological theory states that the critical fraction (p) of all people to be
immunised with a combined vaccine
(MMR) to ensure eradication of all three pathogens is determined by the infection that spreads most
quickly through the population; that is by the age of one with the largest basic case reproduction

The Power Of Myth By Joseph Campbell
Culture is something that influences everyone s individual behaviorisms, both consciously and
unconsciously. Everybody has a personal culture, often learned from other groups, which then have
their own distinct characteristics. Joseph Campbell was a celebrated American scholar who studied
mythology, having popularized the idea of the hero s journey. The Power of Myth is a book based on
the six episode documentary Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth, in which Campbell and
interviewer Bill Moyers examine the human world. Both discuss Campbell s thoughts about
mythology, and ultimately culture. Campbell s The Power of Myth introduces important ideas that don

Moreover, Campbell dedicated his life to studying myth and religion, something that I probably
wouldn t choose to do with my time. Another instance where Campbell shared his dissimilar
observations of myths is his assertion that [i]f you were not alert to the parallel themes, you perhaps
would think they were quite different stories, but they re not. (Campbell 14). Campbell has studied so
many myths that he was able to find the universal lessons that humans have learned. Another
interpretation is that Campbell has made the generalization that all myths are essentially the same. I
believe that while there may be overarching themes found throughout myths, there are still key
differences that make each culture s mythology unique. Trying to group everything into a precise
category or combining all myths into a single monomyth makes any other possibilities obsolete. For
example, both my favorite TV show and book series retell well known fairy tales. Finding new
meanings in a story that is otherwise cliché can be eye opening. I think myths and fairy tales alike
reflect the variances between cultures and times, which fluctuate, but Campbell concluded that all
myths tell the same story. This is yet another disparity between Campbell s views on myth and my
own.
Campbell s personal values didn t seem to emphasize independence and diversity as much as mine.

Essay about Value Chain Analysis
Value Chain Analysis
Many organizations do not achieve the profits they anticipate by using incorrect methods or models to
determine the true costs of products and services. This failure to correctly assess the costs associated
with business not only affects the profit margin, but the organizations competitive advantage as well.
In order to asses whether the organization is failing to realize optimum resource allocation, the
organization should look at the methodology first popularized by Michael Porter titled the Value Chain
Analysis (VCA). VCA seeks to define the entire chain through which goods are supplied to a customer
(Booth, 1997, 2). The VCA can be a powerful tool in increasing an organization s competitive

Stabell and Fjeldstad (1998), stated that inbound logisitics can even even apply to technology as
inbound logistics can be receiving, storing, and disseminating inputs to the product (p 417). Inbound
logistics could be simplified by stating that it is the most basic requirement to begin the organization s
processes; be it raw materials, patients, customers, or inputs. Let us assume that the organization is
going to develop a new technology for physicians. The organization is going to develop a form of
wireless PDA that is about the size of a clipboard. Instead of carrying a paper file into every patient
appointment, the doctor will have this smart pad that they can use to input patient data. Throughout
the day, the physician hooks up the smart pad to his office PC through a USB cable, and the
information is transmitted into the patient history. Inbound logistics would include identifying what
materials will be needed as well as what software will be needed to support the new technology.
Inbound logistics would need to determine what components will be outsourced, which will be built in
house, and what software will be needed to support the new technology.
Once all steps of inbound logistics have been completed, the next step in the value chain is

Metal Band Misconceptions
Misconceptions about Rock and Metal Bands.
Only talks about death? Screams all the time? Lyrics mean nothing? If the first thing you thought of
was a band you believe all those common misconceptions. How would you know if you refuse to try
and listen to it? Most people choose not to go out on a limb and give this music a chance because they
have a paranoia that it is evil. Kids who wear black and listen to rock music aren t all satan
worshippers or terrible people. ~Andy Biersack. There is no reason that this music shouldn t be
respected by society.
Where did the misconception that rock and metal bands have meaningless lyrics come from? In fact,
rock and metal bands tend to have deeper and more relatable lyrics than some(not all)songs that
everyone seems to enjoy. An example is that one set of lyrics in a black veil brides song called never
give in is Never give in, Never back down. When your life seems lost, fight against all odds.
Compared to Kanye West s song I am a God where he sings I just talked to Jesus, He said what s up

That misconception was caused when someone had mistaken death metal or deathcore for a metal or
rock song. Rock and metal songs almost never talk about death but when they do they are telling their
listeners that suicide is never the answer and that instead of hurting yourself listen to their music.
Rock and metal has actually reduced suicide rates by 89% When people hurt you over and over, think
of them as sandpaper. They may scratch and hurt you now but in the end you end up polished and they
end up useless. Andy stands up against bullying as do most bands which helps assist them in the

The Journal Articles On Special Education Assessment
Journal Articles Review Analyzed below are the two journal articles about special education
assessments entitled, Predictors of Assessment Accommodations Use for Students Who are Deaf or
Hard of Hearing from the Journal of Educational Research Policy Studies (Cawthon WurtzBest, 2010)
and A Methodology for Assessing the Functions of Emerging Speech in Children with Developmental

revolves around the following areas: nature of research, summary, critique, personnel, future practice,
and future research. A. Nature of Research The first article, Predictors of Assessment
Accommodations Use for Students Who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing by Cawthon WurtzBest (2010),
is a regression study aimed to explore whether student characteristics, teacher perspectives, and
contextual factors predict accommodations use with students who are deaf or hard of hearing
(Cawthon WurtzBest, 2010). The article is very relevant to special education assessment because it
discussed implications for assessment policies and practices with students who are deaf or hard of
hearing, particularly during an era of accountability reform (NCLB accountability). The second
article, A Methodology for Assessing the Functions of Emerging Speech in Children with
Developmental Disabilities by Lerman, Parten, Addison, Vorndran, Volkert, Kodak, 2005 (2005), is

Sensory Perceptual Phenomena Is An Event A Living Organism
Sensory Perceptual Phenomena is an event a living organism experiences that involves biological,
psychological, and cognitive determinants as a response to the environment (Gorbel, Oct. 28th). In
order for the living organism to experience this phenomena, the brain and nervous system must
organize and stabilize the living organism s sensory perceptual system (Gorbel, Nov. 16th) A primary
function of the sense are biological transducers, devices that convert one kind of energy into another
(Coon Mitterer, 124). The basic process that occurs in the sensory perceptual system begins with a
physical energy from the living organism s environment. Then the phylogenetically engineered
external organ is used in order to collect the energy from the environment. Receptor cells are then
stimulated and create electro chemical reactions. Electrical impulses are encoded with information and
travel the neural net. It will then be sent to a specific structure of the brain that correlates with the
external organ. The information is decoded and the living organism becomes aware; this causes a
physical stimulus response, also known as a sensation (Gorbel, Oct, 28th).
However, there are other processes that are involved before the living organism produces a perception
from a physical sensation. Other sensory organs and systems include: the eye and visual system, ears
and auditory system, the nose and olfaction, taste buds or tongue and gustation, somesthetic sense and
warning and reminding

The Reading A Woman in Berlin details the experiences of a women during the time when Russia

about Russia occupation in Berlin, Germany. Her diary expresses the problems women faced in
regards to the Russian soldiers, the affect the war played on the Germans in Berlin, and how the
German people dealt with the Russia soldiers.
Young women in particular face serious forms of abuse during this time. The author describes on

Ancient Era Vs Renaissance Era
Great discussion post this week! You have chosen some great artifacts from each era. All are great
advanced designs for each era and truly fascinating to look at as well. Between the Saqqara Bird, The
Morgan Crusader Bible, and The Gutenberg Press you can see each era s culture through the artifacts
and how they do all differ. It is funny to notice though that the Ancient Era and the Renaissance Era
artifacts that you have chosen are both made out of wood. Even though these periods are during two
different times, wood was still used and carved for both artifacts. This was something I just thought
when looking at the images you have provided. I also wanted to mention that the artifact you have
chosen for the Ancient Era is similar to what I have chosen as well. I chose the Shabti dolls, which is
similar to the artifact you have chosen, although the Saqqara Bird s purpose is still not really known.
Anyway, there are many differences between all three artifacts. All three are beautifully crafted, but in
three different and unique ways for each era. The Saqqara Bird is smoothly crafted and rather simple
where the Bible and printing press from the other two eras are more detailed and elaborate. You can
see the changes in time through the artifacts and the skills and culture through each. The printing press
is a huge advancement and just goes to show you the culture during this time period. The bird and the
Bible also show the spirituality and faith and even religion of each era, while the printing press does
not. The manuscript that you have selected is also made and written by hand in this era and the
printing press in the next era shows how all that can now be done by machine. All three artifacts are
created differently because of the changes in each time frame. You can see how the artifacts advance
and how the cultures have evolved as well and what was really important during each era. It seems
like in the ancient era the afterlife was a huge concern and belief for these people, while during the
middle era it has more of a focus on religion and sharing that, while in the Renaissance era it was
more focused on advancements and production created from the printing press. Contemporary human
creative expression can

Out with the old in with the new , Today s generation slang continuously changes depending on a new
trend. I feel as if some words and phrases are praised for the wrong reaosn. In 2015 some words
should be retired because they are degrading, outdated, and highly unpleasant. The new slang the

Roman Roads:
An Empire Connected

December 16, 2013
Man has always moved along a road. It s just what the road has looked like that s changed over time
(Dan McNichol). Some would say that the legacy of the Roman Empire is viewed as the foundation of
civilization, having influenced every aspect of modern society, from literature to mathematics. Even
today, Roman law and foundation of government forms the basis of several modern democracies. The
ancient Empire`s monuments still stand millennia later, awing and inspiring us. Rome s extraordinary

Secondly, the construction of the roads greatly amplified the strength and stamina of the Roman
soldiers. Augustus, the first Roman emperor, made it a policy that the soldiers were to keep busy, and
therefore stay out of trouble, which meant that all of the free time that the soldiers had was utilized in
the maintenance and the construction of the roads. Through the construction of the roads, the Romans
became infamous for their strength and stamina, and were viewed across Europe as a deadly force to
be reckoned with.
`It is no easy task to confine luxury within the limits of an empire. The most remote countries of the
ancient world were ransacked to supply the pomp and delicacy of Rome` (Gibbon, 75). In addition to
strengthening the military, the Roman roads also had numerous economic benefits. With over 53,000
miles of paved roads spanning across Europe, the Roman Empire was much more connected, and
travel was considerably easier. This led to Rome becoming the centre of trade across Europe, with
exotic goods coming in from every corner of the world. Aelius Aristides, a famous orator, is quoted to
have said: ` Large continents lie around the Mediterranean Sea and never ending supplies of goods
flow from them to you [the Roman people]. Everything from every land and every sea is shipped to
you . . . so that if anyone wanted to see all these things he would either have to travel the world or live
in Rome. ` (La Bédoyère, 104). This statement was

Garden Of Eden Research Paper
The Jewish people believe that the current world is a place to prepare oneself for Olam Ha Ba, the
World to Come. According to the Talmud, all of Israel has a share in the World to Come, but it is not
equal. A righteous person will have a greater share than that of an ordinary person. The place of
spiritual reward for the righteous is known as Gan Eden, the Garden of Eden. This is not the same
garden in which Adam and Eve lived. The Garden of Eden is a spiritual utopia in which only the
righteous directly go to. An average person would first go to a place of punishment and/or

of the path to Gehinnom and followed the part of Gan Eden. Upon arriving in Gan Eden, souls
encounter the light of Gan Eden through the River of Light. Tradition states that the river is created
from perspiration that flows from the heavenly hosts as they fervently sing glory to the Highest. The
river serves the purpose of purification so that one may emerge and come before the Master of the

prepare for entry into the Upper Gan Eden. The Zohar, a work from within the Kabbalah, states that
upper Gan Eden is reserved for the pious of a higher grade. Upon entering upper Gan Eden, the soul is
once again purified in the River of Light. The second purification heals the soul of any remaining

The Main Problem Of Drinking Alcohol
The main problem of drinking alcohol is that it causes intemperance. Intemperance is having an
excessive amount of something, instead of having it in moderation. The document states that
intemperance is an issue because it causes men to become irreclaimable in their habits, without
suspicion of danger (Major problems in the early republic). It states that men that drink an excessive
amount of alcohol aren t aware of their habits, and that some of their habits may cause danger without
them realizing it. The document describes alcohol as being a crime, and says that drinking an
excessive amount of alcohol causes theft and falsehood. This is not the main issue though, the main
problem is intemperance. Intemperance causes temptation, and when alcohol is first consumed it
usually starts out as prudent use, and later becomes addicting, and turns into a negligent habit. Once
intemperance takes place relationships can be affected, and even ruined, as well as the society. Alcohol
can corrupt the society in many different ways. It can cause poverty, and suffering, as well as take
money away from supporting things that are important like schools, colleges, and the government.
Instead of supporting schools, and colleges a huge portion of the entire capital of the nation is
mortgaged for the support of drunkards (Major problems in the early Republic). Instead of using

Persuasive Essay On Youth And Bullying

social media, have a few laughs at a couple of videos and maybe message a couple of
friends.unfortunately for some people their days do not go so smoothly imagine being verbally
attacked and tormented everyday, you absolutely hate going to school and you do not even enjoy going
home because you know that the bullying is going to follow you home and continue through your
social media. Bullying in this generation is not taken serious enough and it is time for everyone to be
aware on how dangerous it is.
Its 2017 and bullying still remains the same in fact it has increased. Bullies and mean people have
been around for as long as anyone can remember , but due to newer technologies being made more
ways of bullying have been created which means more ways for people to cyberbully. Most bullying
occurs on instagram, facebook, email etc.. if you scroll through any of your social medias there is not a
chance that you will get to the bottom of the page without seeing a form of hate.statistics show that
eleven percent of adolescents and teenagers report that embarrassing or damaging photos have been
taken of them without their knowledge or consent.sometimes teenagers take photos of other people
without them knowing and share it online and make a mockery out of them on purpose,to them they
may consider it a joke and will laugh about it and share it around not knowing how much of an impact
it could make on that person s well being and life.there is a difference between a couple of friends
joking around and having a little bit of banter compared to someone who is being targeted and harmed
continuously by hurtful words or embarrassing photos.Teenagers usually do horrible things like this to
fit in , be popular or for their own selfish reasons.
One of the effects of bullying is that it can change the victim s personality. It can cause people who are
normally confident and happy to become self conscious, shy, and unsure. Most of the time victims of
bullying may also become sad or depressed, keeping them from trying new things and excelling. Once

all bad. Sometimes it is the most effective style to use. Twenty three years working experiences in the
US enable Mitarai to know clearly that his key challenge was to return the company to profitability.
Therefore, he was merciless in axing unprofitable parts of the business.
This decision is made without any form of consultation. Based on Lewin s experiments, this may
resulted in the most level of discontent. Therefore, these radical and un Japanese reforms outraged
Mitarai s management team. But all was forgiven as the business returned to profitable growth, and
Mitarai is now one of Japans revered business

Underage Teenage Drinking
Drinking and Driving and Underage Drinking Why do teenagers choose to drink? This question is
ever present in the minds of parents and caregivers. Teenagers who drink do not comprehend the
widespread and longterm effects of their actions. Consuming alcohol is very harmful to the teenager,
friends, family, and even strangers. Nearly ten million young people ages twelve to twenty reported
consuming alcohol in the past thirty days, with consumed being defined as more than a couple sips (
11 Fact About Teens And Alcohol ). These are not good numbers for underaged individuals. Teen
drinking is an important factor which can lead to serious injury or death. Teen drinking is a serious
issue with life altering consequences and cannot be ignored. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It can be harmful to the body or it can be harmful to the people or surroundings of the abuser. It is a
very big mistake to abuse alcohol. Abusing alcohol can lead to alcohol poisoning which can result
death. Alcohol abuse can also cause someone to have short and long term effects to his brain and body
( Teenage Drinking ). A person who drinks too much alcohol is more likely to commit violent crimes
such as assault, sexual assault, homicides, or even suicide ( Teenage Drinking ). Teenagers are usually
heavy drinkers because they usually take drinking lightly. Underage persons do not drink as often as
adults, but when underage drinkers drink, they drink a whole lot more at one time ( Teenage Drinking
). When teenagers drink alcohol they tend to binge drink. Binge drinking is when a teenager consumes
too much alcohol in a short amount of time. This usually means five or six beers in only an hour or
two. Binge drinking can cause harmful effects to the teen body, such as alcohol poisoning which can
lead to serious injury or death ( Teenage Drinking ). Abusing alcohol can have short term as well as
long term effects. These effects can be effects to the body or socially. Long term effects include family
problems, having trouble in school, not getting as much done on the job, liver disease or nerve
damage, or heart related diseases ( Drinking and Driving , Foundation). Some of the short term effects
include slower reaction times, difficulty speaking to other people, feeling ill, throwing up, and
headaches. The more dangerous short term effects can be difficulty breathing or passing out and not
remembering what happened ( Drinking and Driving , Foundation). If a teenager has used or abused
alcohol he should not drive or perform any type of activity because this can be dangerous and put lives

Analysis Of Fences By August Wilson And Death Of A Salesman
Fences by August Wilson and Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller are two plays that are very similar
to each other. They are different in terms of plot, but they are both stories about family conflicts and
relationships between family members. In both plays, sport plays a big role in the life of the characters
as both sons of the main characters wish to play sports in school. Also, the women in both plays have
an unfortunate marriage as their husbands both had an affair and betrayed their marriage. In addition
to these similarities, death is also a strong concept; as both stories end with the main character s
funeral. Although there are many similarities in both plays such as sports, marriage, and death; there
are also many differences in these same themes. The concept of sports plays a big role in both stories;
as both main characters, Willy and Troy, have sons who wish to play sports in school. But the sons,
Cory and Biff, had very different reactions from their fathers. Willy, was very supportive of the idea,
whereas Troy, disagreed with it and did everything in his power to stop it, and he succeed. Willy
believed that if his son became a famous athlete, he will have a bright future; however, this did not
happen because Biff found out about his affair. While Willy was supportive and understanding, Biff s
father, Troy, was the opposite of Willy. Troy did not want Cory to play sports due to his own
experience in the past with how he was treated when he wanted to

Angela s Ashes-Historical Essay
Is life writing really an accurate representation of past events? Hello everyone and welcome to the
2017 literary convention, I am your keynote speaker Angus Topp and today I will be discussing why
life writing is a very inaccurate way of representing past events. Angela s Ashes by Frank McCourt is
an autobiography of McCourt s life from when he was born to the age of 19, at this time they were in
great deprivation. McCourt s depiction of Limerick and it s locals are shown as a squalid town with
wrongly accusing one local of watching over him. McCourts memory would also not be able to
remember many delicate details such as conversations and exact memories as the year difference was
to significant. To add to all the misery Frank McCourt had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is evident by Paddy Malone, who was featured on the books original covers is McCourt s most
furious detractors but also grew up in the lanes of Limerick. According to Malone, the McCourt s
family lived in a home with green lawn and they were never extremely poor. As described in the book,
Limerick during the 1930 s to 1940 s was described in all its grittiness. The family lived in a run
down, neglected house with unpaved lane of houses that flood regularly. The McCourt s family is
forced to live like this due to the father s alcoholism. The father would always spend the welfare
payments before Angela could get her hands on it to feed their starving children. However Malone s
opinion counteracts the book s description of the family and the home they lived in. Evidence *Insert
Quote*
Without anyone to contest a story it would be 100% believable however when Malone s side of the
story is told McCourt is left with quite a few holes in his plot. This further pushes the idea of how
inaccurate life writing really is. Paragraph 3:
McCourt tends to position the view of the catholic church in a negative way as he is referring back to
the church for answers on what is wrong and right and to confess on many

Dangers Of Concussions In Football
Football is the most popular sport in the U.S. About 1.4 million people watch the NFL season and
about 111.9 million people watch the NFL Super Bowl. Although it is the most popular sport is it the
most dangerous? There are many people getting concussions, injuries to the Meniscus, Groin Pull,
Hamstring pull, etc. It is rare for pro football players to obtain injuries, but it is more common for high
school and college football players to get injuries, sometimes serious. The NFL does notice that
football is a dangerous sport and assign many protections like pads and helmets, but it doesn t stop
kids from getting serious injuries. Football players are known for getting crazy injuries. Injuries tend
to happen to high school and college players because pro players know how to avoid getting injuries.
A study in 2007 revealed that about 7.23% of high school students got serious head injuries and about
0.67% for college players. There are so many injuries football players get but the most common are
leg injuries like injuries to the Meniscus, Groin Pull, Hamstring Pull, Tear, or Strain, Iliotibial Band
Syndrome.Pulled or Strained Calf Muscle. The sad thing is that there are kids that get these kinds of
injuries and don t get the right amount of rest time because of coach s urging kids to shake it off and
get back on the field, putting them at risk of getting a serious injury to their legs. Teens who play in
Junior high and High school have undeveloped brains. If they take hits

Essay on Profiling and Airport Security
The world is living in a post 9/11 era. Since that September day, security measures have heightened
and extra precautions are in place to prevent something of that nature from happening again. The
terrorists involved in 9/11 appeared to be shockingly similar to a typical American Citizen. However,
their behaviors from that week prior were alarming. Examining the terrorists who have become more
prevalent in the last twenty years, there are several things in common with all of them. Their profiles
all have similar characteristics, not necessarily racial but largely behavioral. To address this, the
United States Government and the Transportation Security Administration should allow profiling in
airport security throughout the country. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some experts view racial profiling as a disgrace to our civil liberties. Professor of law, Patricia J.
Williams claims that racial profiling violates our personal civil liberties and that it cannot prove itself
effective against terrorists. She argues that terrorists will do whatever it takes to ensure they cannot be
classified physically as terrorists by changing their appearance (172). As we saw in the attacks on
September 11, 2001, the terrorists modified their appearance to blend in with the average American
citizen. The New York City police commissioner, Raymond Kelly, noted Look at the 9/11 hijackers.
They came here. They shaved. They went to topless bars. They wanted to blend in. They wanted to
look like they were a part of the American dream... (Harcourt 3) That demonstrates a clear examples
of how racial profiling does not work effectively by itself. While the suspect s race may play part in
why they are detained, it should not be the reason security officers do so. Behavioral profiling may be
the solution to the problem of protecting civil liberties and successfully securing airports. Behavioral
profiling uses mostly psychological and behavioral traits in detecting abnormal demeanors. Trained
professionals observe crowds of people and watch for certain tendencies with their body language. A
person s body language can set off many red

Olivier greatly aspired to become one of the greatest actors of the twentieth century. His attempt in the role of the main character Henry was nothing short of this by delivering an epic performance in the midst of a gay, colourful depiction of battle. Kenneth Branagh s production (1989) attempted greater realism in the battle scenes and focused more on Henry s inner conflicts. There was not as much emphasis on the patriotic elements of the play as in Olivier s. Branagh s film was constructed many years after Olivier s predominant original when it was considered a classic. Olivier created a total advance in Shakespearean film and gave dawn to colour filming. A young Branagh would have to direct and act admirably to stand alongside the preceding version. He would have to successfully comply as a Shakespearean actor to take the familiar and make it new . Branagh heavily scrutinised Olivier s epic work, employing and enhancing many of the methods Olivier inspired and developed, causing Branagh s film to be labelled sometimes as an emulation. • 3. Comparing J. Gordon Edwards And Richard Burton During the twentieth century, more than twelve directors tried their hand at interpreting one of history s greatest love stories. Each had their own lense that they used to craft their movie into a reflection of themselves, their culture, or the time period in which is was created. J. Gordon Edwards s 1917 film starring Theda Bara was extremely lavish and very risque. The version starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton is known for both their on and off screen romance. Cecil B. Demille s version of the tragic story was at the height of Hollywood fashion, inspiring stars and the average woman alike. However, below the surface of Claudette Colbert s shimmering, clinging wardrobe for the film lies another story entirely. The costumes in Cecil B. Demille s 1934 version of Cleopatra have influences and symbols rooted in ancient Egypt, but are most heavily influenced by the art deco of the 1930s. This can be seen in many of her dresses throughout the film, especially during her dinner with Marc Antony and her surrender to Octavian and the Roman army. One example of this is in the slinky, gold lamé dress Claudette Colbert dons as Cleopatra plots to poison Marc Antony. Not only does the figure hugging gown remind the audience of her role as the temptress, but it echos strongly of the style of 1930s Hollywood. The ruched front was style that became popular in 1930s. Several of Madeleine Vionnet s designs feature both a ruched front and mermaid bottom, which may have served as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The understanding of the sport either it be soccer, baseball, football, or rugby came easy to me and I was always thought of an important player of the team from my coaches. I love being on the team yet still performing individually. Late in my teens another passion developed and it too came easy for me. This passion would be the performing on stage; Acting. The beautiful art of Acting has recently impacted my life in a way I cannot describe. After success with other performances at my high school, I have been encouraged to seriously step foot into the world of acting. Being enrolled at Indian River State College will allow me to begin my journey and stay close to home but not for long. I plan to transfer to seek my Bachelor s Degree in Sports Management and I may even double with a Bachelor Degree of Fine Arts. I see my future as being someone who is in the spotlight. • 8. Concepts Of Authority In Mohawk Interruptus By Audra Simpson Authority is important for any leader or government, because that is how decisions are accepted as right. Sovereignty is the recognition by other states that one government has the authority to control a certain territory. As well as the acceptance of rule by the people One major reading that contests this idea of sovereignty is the book Mohawk Interruptus by Audra Simpson, which discusses the trials of Native American populations and their efforts to reclaim their own sovereignty. Within Mohawk Interruptus, the people of the Kahnawá:ke tribe struggle against the colonial idea of American or Canadian sovereignty lorded over them, and through refusal of such gifts regain their sovereignty. ... Kahnawa kehró:non had refused the authority of the state at almost every turn and in so doing reinstated a different political authority (Simpson, 2014, 106). Through these rejections, the people of Kahnawá:ke and Kahnawa kehró:non established that the current system of sovereignty does not work for them, as it is colonially based to oppress the Native American communities. Simpson uses these examples to make a larger point on the Western systems of governance and understandings of authority. Though this idea of sovereignty, Simpson argues, was a way to appropriate land and incorporate or destroy opposing cultures. Through the research of Hannah Ardent, it is considered that sovereignty has been used to forcefully assimilate minority populations of nations. Within her paper on the ... More specifically, two big columns in particular were known to be used in the architecture of Elizabethan theaters which were called Herculean columns or pillars. These columns or pillars were elaborately painted to resemble marble. As stated earlier, Elizabethan theaters were constructed so that the audience and actors were displayed in the outside environments similar to an Amphitheater. This would mean that the arena was open and sometimes the actors and audience would get wet if it rained, or sweat if it was hot out that day. The size of the Amphitheater was usually around 100 ft. in diameter which is a decent sized theater. The arenas themselves varied in shapes and included Octagonal or circular in shape and would have anywhere between 8 and 24 sides. The material that was used to build the theaters consisted of timber, stone, nails and plaster, later on Amphitheaters would have tile roofs on them. Because theater was a priority in the Elizabethan time construction was completed relatively fast and averaged about 6 months to complete. The aforementioned book is about an American family from Georgia, which leaves the comfort of the USA to go to a missionary mission in the country of Congo, in the town of Kilanga. Throughout the novel, it can be seen how the Congo either changes or reveals the true personalities of its 5 narrators (Orleanna, Rachel, Leah, Adah and Ruth May). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is apparent by the use of the character s perspective about nature and the ultimate result it has upon them. Now you laugh, day and night, while you gnaw on my bones. But what else could we have thought? Only that it began and ended with us. What do we know, even now? (Kingsolver 10). This quote by Orleanna about nature, shows the true power of it regarding the motifs of freedom and captivity. This is seen because of the fact that there is a progression and a change of thought that quickly evolves from the family and her thinking that they had the freedom to have dominion over nature, to she surrendering to nature and saying that she is captive forever because of nature that nature instead of being loving, betrayed her and is now seeking for the forgiveness of it. Another way this is seen it when Leah said Its heavenly paradise in the Congo, and sometimes I want to live here forever, (104). This extract from the novel at first glance may not seem like an important passage, but it is considering the fact that she feels that she has the motifs of freedom and love at her grasp as she feels free in the Congo and loves it. This ultimately will not last as their contrasting motifs will eventually kick in making her a prisoner of the Congo by her own merits keeping her captive in there for the rest of her life, while also betraying her because the land and the nature inside it made her lose her little sister. Finally, this connects to the thesis and the other paragraphs because of the fact that it shows this hope versus reality situation which is created when these motifs are combined, furthermore it shows the colorfulness of life in the book because of the fact that it shows the way ... • 24. Sensory Perceptual Phenomena Is An Event A Living Organism Sensory Perceptual Phenomena is an event a living organism experiences that involves biological, psychological, and cognitive determinants as a response to the environment (Gorbel, Oct. 28th). In order for the living organism to experience this phenomena, the brain and nervous system must organize and stabilize the living organism s sensory perceptual system (Gorbel, Nov. 16th) A primary function of the sense are biological transducers, devices that convert one kind of energy into another (Coon Mitterer, 124). The basic process that occurs in the sensory perceptual system begins with a physical energy from the living organism s environment. Then the phylogenetically engineered external organ is used in order to collect the energy from the environment. Receptor cells are then stimulated and create electro chemical reactions. Electrical impulses are encoded with information and travel the neural net. It will then be sent to a specific structure of the brain that correlates with the external organ. The information is decoded and the living organism becomes aware; this causes a physical stimulus response, also known as a sensation (Gorbel, Oct, 28th). However, there are other processes that are involved before the living organism produces a perception from a physical sensation. Other sensory organs and systems include: the eye and visual system, ears and auditory system, the nose and olfaction, taste buds or tongue and gustation, somesthetic sense and warning and reminding ... All are great advanced designs for each era and truly fascinating to look at as well. Between the Saqqara Bird, The Morgan Crusader Bible, and The Gutenberg Press you can see each era s culture through the artifacts and how they do all differ. It is funny to notice though that the Ancient Era and the Renaissance Era artifacts that you have chosen are both made out of wood. Even though these periods are during two different times, wood was still used and carved for both artifacts. This was something I just thought when looking at the images you have provided. I also wanted to mention that the artifact you have chosen for the Ancient Era is similar to what I have chosen as well. I chose the Shabti dolls, which is similar to the artifact you have chosen, although the Saqqara Bird s purpose is still not really known. Anyway, there are many differences between all three artifacts. All three are beautifully crafted, but in three different and unique ways for each era. The Saqqara Bird is smoothly crafted and rather simple where the Bible and printing press from the other two eras are more detailed and elaborate. You can see the changes in time through the artifacts and the skills and culture through each. The printing press is a huge advancement and just goes to show you the culture during this time period. The bird and the Bible also show the spirituality and faith and even religion of each era, while the printing press does not. The manuscript that you have selected is also made and written by hand in this era and the printing press in the next era shows how all that can now be done by machine. All three artifacts are created differently because of the changes in each time frame. You can see how the artifacts advance and how the cultures have evolved as well and what was really important during each era. It seems like in the ancient era the afterlife was a huge concern and belief for these people, while during the middle era it has more of a focus on religion and sharing that, while in the Renaissance era it was more focused on advancements and production created from the printing press.
