A Safe Injection Site Is Essential For Esquimalt And Victoria
In 2015, Victoria, BC saw an increase in drug overdoses throughout the city including one death
occurring in Esquimalt (Times Colonist, 2015). Drug related overdose fatalities are preventable if the
population has access to services that would minimize the risk of an overdose. Through the
assessment of the community of Esquimalt, I am proposing that there is a need to establish a safe
injection site to prevent accidental overdoses, as well as provide social services for detoxification and
rehabilitation programs. It is necessary to note that Victoria and Esquimalt are not differentiated when
studies are done. Therefore, the extrapolation of accurate drug use statistics for Esquimalt is not
available. For the purpose of this paper, Victoria ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, drug related deaths have occurred in this community. Therefore, a safe injection site is a
priority for Esquimalt. Moreover, safe injection sites have been proven to save taxpayer s dollars.
According to Kerr and Woods (2009), an individual who uses intravenous drugs has an increased risk
of contracting HIV. The lifetime cost of HIV per person is approximately $150,000. However, with
proper intervention to decrease HIV rates, the healthcare system saves $130,000. This injection site I
am proposing would be modeled after the InSite program in Vancouver. Pinkerton (2011) reports that
this program has saved taxpayers $1.9 million a year in HIV and overdose related health costs.
Therefore, a program like this in the community would be beneficial because it will ensure the
marginalized members of the community are receiving care, but also decrease spending on future
health care costs related to disease and overdose.
Drug Addiction in Esquimalt While doing research on this community, it became apparent that the
public has access to many different social services that have helped the residents achieve wellness
(Abra et al., 2016), including Edgewood Health Network, a rehabilitation centre for addictions and
mental health. However, there is no support for people who are currently active drug users or have
relapsed (Edgewood Health Network, n.d). Studies have shown that relapsed users have an increased

Keeping God in the American Culture as Depicted in the Audio Adrenaline Song, Can t Take God
Away
Music has always been a big part of our culture. People sing and listen to songs for entertainment and
for encouragement. Explore folk songs or Negro spirituals for instance. Many slaves sang spirituals
for encouragement and hope to carry them through the rough times they experienced. Even today,
most people enjoy listening to music because they can relate to the things about which the artists sing.
Often artists sing about things that either upset or please them. These days, much of American music
exposes problems in our society. In a song entitled, Can t Take God Away, the Christian rock group

Because the schools aren t allowed to teach that God exists, ( That would be forcing religion on
people; we have to have separation of church and state ) the government is implying that believing in
God isn t important. According to what we re taught, We are all that matters. We re all good people but
we ll be failures if we don t make more money than our parents did.
The song deals next with freedom when it says, You can take my life, my land my liberty/Lock me up,
I ll still be free in lines 10 11. Every day in many parts of the world, governments imprison, beat,
torture, and even kill Christians for their faith. To the songwriter, even if he experiences such
atrocities, he is still free. Although these horrors are uncommon here in the United States, I believe
this statement still applies to our country. Freedoms are still taken away from people because of their
beliefs in God, only on a smaller scale. For example, despite the fact that it is illegal, many schools
prohibit Christian clubs from using all the resources that are available to other clubs in the school...all
in the name of the separation of church and state allegedly found in the Constitution.
The song deals lastly with laws when it says, You can take God out of the law/You can make me listen
to ya ll in lines 13 14. This statement shows the songwriter s belief that God has been removed from
laws of our country. As with the other excerpts from the

A Report On Driverless Car
Abstract In the advancement of AI systems, there is going to be change on the way we commute. The
driverless car that is capable of driving itself and it is one of the hottest ongoing developments now.
This is going to be very beneficial for human beings soon and it all set to take away the traffic
accidents, traffic congestions on the road and much more. By specifying the source and destination in
the driverless car, we will only be passengers in the car, the car systems do the driving the job for us.
There are various intelligent components involved in building up the driverless cars. Introduction The

Driverless cars are prepared to offer various benefits to human society. Automation Categories: In the
United States, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) classifies vehicle
automation technologies into below four categories: Level 0: No automation. This is defined as human
control vehicle. In other words, human driver is responsible controlling the vehicle at all times. Level
1: Specific function. One or more controls of the vehicle are automated. For example, automatic
braking system that uses radar, video, infrared ranges sensors to detect the other vehicles or obstacles
and apply the brakes to slow down and stop the vehicle without driver intervention when there is
dangerous. Another example is, Electronic stability control (ESC) detects the loss steering control and
apply the brakes to stop the vehicle from skidding. Level 2: Combined function. The combination of
two or more controls is automated. The example is combined automation of adaptive cruise control
and lane keeping system. Adaptive cruise control system adjusts the vehicle speed when the vehicle
goes close to another vehicle, and lane keeping system warns the driver when the vehicle started
moving out of the lane without driver s input. Level 3: Limited self driving. The limited functions of
the vehicle are automated and the vehicle can drive itself.

Gap Year Benefits
Shortly before graduating from high school, I realized that taking the traditional route and going
immediately to a university as all my friends and peers were was not what I wanted to do. While I
have always wanted to expand my knowledge and further my education I decided that what would be
extremely beneficial to my life would be to take a gap year. Wanting to do something to better myself
and the country that I live in, so I joined the AmeriCorps. Starting October 11, 2016 I am a member of
the National Civilian Community Corps(NCCC) and will be until July 14, 2017. The NCCC is a ten

This is a completely opposite project from our first round, we are finally living in society again, no

Working in a school is also very emotionally taxing, however, seeing the immediate gratification of a
kid finally understanding what you are teaching or running up and hugging you because they passed
all their classes and were so proud of themselves makes it all worth it. Although I spend my day
teaching, I am shown something very important by a child everyday. The kids I work with show such
love and care for their friends, cousins, little brothers or sisters, and teachers that it astounds me. They
make me reevaluate what is truly important in my life and make me immensely grateful for the family

Persuasive Essay On Terrorism
Instead, we should accept the risk and live our lives to the full. (Starling) The issue of terrorism is that
it doesn t stop and it s been going on for years now, and it seems that the people haven t done much to
stop this. The reasoning is that since terrorism has been a thing for a while they have probably seen
everything that they can do, so by trying to fight it, it will most likely become even worse. Terrorists
are attacking more religious people than non religious people because they might be against that race
of the person, or what they believe in. It has even been said all around the world, that Terrorism is a
major problem in countries and something must be done or else people will keep on dying. To prevent

In addition, 17,958 people died in 2013 due to terrorist attacks, and most of these attacks happened in
Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nigeria, and Syria. They mostly happened in these countries because all
of these countries have a religion that they follow, and religious people, and terrorist s mostly will
attack religious people. In the article The Geography of Terrorism by Kathy Gilsinan it states, Since
2000 there has been over a five fold increase in the number of deaths from terrorism, rising from
3,361 in 2000 to 17,958 in 2013. This quote is showing us the statistics of the amount of deaths from
2000 2013, and that terrorism is a big priority that needs to be fixed, telling from the 15,000 death
increase. Also in the article it states, Much of the increase in terrorism related fatalities in 2013 took
place in Iraq, where terrorists claimed nearly 4,000 lives a 168 percent increase over 2012. This quote
describes another reasoning that the amount of deaths are increasing because of terrorist attacks. Many
people are dying due to terrorist attacks, and that most attacks are on people with a major religious
belief.
Next, there were different kind of actions of terrorist attacks in the years 1793 s 1990s. These attacks
are affecting citizens, and terrorists. In the article The History of Terrorism by Amy Zalman, Ph.D, in

The American Stagnation
Although the war was called the American Revolution , America s founding documents, including the
Constitution and the Bill of Rights, are similar to important British archives, such as the English Bill
of Rights and The Spirit of the Laws, as evidenced by the existence of the same three branches of
power and rights. In the Constitution of the United States of America (which was written by the
people, for the people in 1789), the people describe America s three branches of power legislative,
executive, and judicial and who holds it. According to it, the legislative power is vested in congress ,
the executive branch is vested in a President , and the judicial power is vested in one supreme court

Case Study Of Drosophila
Drosophila melanogaster: a case study of embryonic cell differentiation
Introduction: The study of Drosophila has brought great leaps of scientific research with it. As
unlikely a candidate they are, studies of Drosophila melanogaster have done much in the way of
proving theories, discovering genetically identifiable diseases and much more. Over the past three
decades, research on this species has lead researchers to question the developmental processes that
Drosophila experience (Bürglin 2016). The embryonic development of Drosophila serves as an
important case study for developmental genetics, due to the analogous nature of their embryos cell
differentiation. Although Drosophila s development has very distinct variations when compared to that
of vertebrates, there is a commonality between the embryonic development of the nervous system. The
similarity between Drosophila and vertebrates gives reason to research the Homeobox genes in order
to better understand a multitude of species with homologous development. In particular, the nervous
development of Drosophila, could be used to investigate possible cures ... Show more content on

Scottish Witchcraft Trials In England In The Late Middle Ages
Like most renaissance European countries, Scotland had its own witch lore and therefore witch trials.
Between the 16th and 18th centuries, there were thousands people accused as witches[18]. Older
account suggest as many as 30,000 suspected witches, but research has found evidence of only about
4000 confirmed individual trials[18]. Obviously there would be missing documents to account for, and
justice improperly performed.
In the late Middle Ages, there were few witch trials performed, despite belief in magic and
subsequently witchcraft was prevailing. Trials were, however, undertaken in the case where harmful
magic was apparent[19]. In the late sixteenth century, attitudes began to change, and witchcraft was
seen as deriving power from the Devil, causing witchcraft to be seen as a form of heresy. In 1563,
Parliament passed the Witchcraft Act which dictated that the practice of witchcraft, as well consulting
with witches were capital crimes[20]. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most prosecutions were performed in secular courts. Scottish witchcraft trials were notable for their
use of pricking in which a suspect s skin was pierced with needles, pins and bodkins as it was believed
that they would possess a Devil s Mark through which they could not feel pain[22]. In Scotland,
convicted witches were usually strangled at the stake before having their bodies burned, although
there are instances where they were burned alive or drowned[20]. Torture was relatively rare, used to
extract confessions, but most of these cases were in high profile trials like John Fine, accused of

Title Evolution of drug resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
Introduction
Bacterial pathogen Mycobacterium tuberculosis causes tuberculosis a complex granulomatous disease
which is a global health concern. It is a very slow growing bacteria, thus is extremely time consuming
to culture in laboratory. It can survive the attack of the immune arsenal of our body; can successfully
hide inside the macrophage. This makes long periods of uninterrupted antibiotic treatment necessary
for the patients with tuberculosis and contributes to drug resistance very quickly [WHO 2014]. All this
poses an extreme challenge to the scientists and the medical community to develop effective drug,
monitor and treat this disease across globe. Before the discovery of anti tubercular drugs, this disease
was one of the most dreaded diseases. In absence of any drugs the only form of treatment
recommended was healthy diet, rest and fresh air. Patients were sent to Tuberculosis sanatorium
hoping that they might survive. The origin of this pathogen is traced back to Africa around 70,000
years ago and they successfully coevolved with humans as they migrated out of Africa and settled
across the globe. Nearly 10,000 years ago there was a sudden change in human demography and the
human population density increased suddenly, this is termed as Neolithic Demographic Transition.

There are many foods in our diets today that are filled with sugar or unneccesary things that we eat
and we are unaware of. Our diets should be consisted of lots of vegetables and protein to be able to
live healthier and not having things such as too much oil or sugar and salt in our diets. Another
important strategy to use is to make sure not to overeat. According to an article on Health.com
research had been done in Japan and what they realized was that they would only eat until they were
80 percent full. This helps them live longer and live healthier without feeling overstuffed with food.
To eating better you must able to see your food and that would be very difficult if you are watching
T.V. or your laptop while you are eating. Eating a meal with people and communicating is a very good
way to be able to both connect with people as well as eating slower and realizing you are full quicker (
9 Ways To Live Longer ). In conclusion, living a healthy lifestyle takes time and effort however it is
achievable once you start. A healthy lifestyle includes understanding the important and healthy foods
that you should eat as well as exercising and being active daily. Once you live a healthier lifestyle the
quality of life that you will live will be better and more enjoyable and you will be able to even live

Margery s Motives
When reading Margery s autobiography, one could question her motives, such as if it was her ego that
inspired her to receive God s approval and admiration, instead of her desire to replicate Jesus
suffering. Before Margery s first vision, one gets a sense of the pride she feels, she stated that her
whole desire was to be respected by people and that she always craved more and more. And while
these thoughts occurred prior to her commitment to God, they shed light on Margery s personality and
possibly her inner priorities. It cannot be denied that Margery appreciated and enjoyed positive

Margery was able to admit that her suffering was not even comparable to Jesus , I do not suffer as
much sorrow as I would do for our Lord s love, for I only suffer cutting words, and our merciful Lord
Christ Jesus suffered hard strokes, bitter scourgings, and shameful death at the last, for me and for all
mankind, blessed. This passage expressed the goal of her earthly suffering, to try to imitate Jesus
suffering, even though she could not come close to experiencing it. It proved that whether or not she
held herself in high esteem, she understood her inferiority to the holy. She demonstrated a humble
acceptance of the fact that she was only human and not capable of complete greatness. Soon after she
made that statement, she has a profound moment with one of the Duke s men who had arrested her.
The man believed in her spiritual powers and asked her to pray for him if she ever became a saint in
heaven. Margery responded to the man with, Sir, I hope you will be a saint yourself, and every man
that shall come to heaven. This brief moment represented a kinder and less defensive side of Margery.
It is an important concept to understand that everybody has the ability to achieve greatness, in this
case be holy and achieve sainthood, and Margery saw this goodness in a man that had just harmed her.

Inca Government Intervention
Government intervention is common in today s market society. Although difficult to identify at times,
it is ever present in most transactions that occur. The idea behind the involvement is promotion of the
welfare of the citizens that reside within the government s rule. Whether establishing or promoting
economic growth, employment, income equality, or stabilizing interest rates, the government feels that
their hand in the transaction is for the benefit of the consumer. Market failures can be argued in favor
or in contradiction of big government. No matter the opinion of the individual, the masses are able to
enjoy cleaner air, water, and ground due to increased guidelines set by governing officials. The air we
breathe is full of pollutants; some of which are man made, others are found naturally and released
during chemical changes. The Clean Air Act, which is a constant work in progress, is designed to
reduce emissions by corporations to include those that are considered greenhouse gasses (Cooke Bell
2014). The gasses are a result of unfiltered, or unregulated, production that creates spillover. Water, a
renewable resource like air, is also a regulated waste product. A lot of chemicals, debris, and sewage
can flow from households and industries. Considered one of the most effective ... Show more content

Reinforcement: Reinforcer is defined in our notes as, any event that: (1) follows a behaviour and (2)
increases the probability or likelihood of that behaviour occurring more frequently in the future

Homosociality is the unacknowledged entity that exists between the intestacies of solid masculinity
(Dellamora Masculine Desire, 2). Jean Lipman Blumen defines homosociality as:
Enjoyment and/or preference for the company of the same sex...it does not necessarily involve...an

definition introduces this explicitly erotic sexual interaction to signify homoeroticism. Homoeroticism
is erotic emotions centred on a person of the same sex (Flood, 307). Flood omits any reference to

Braddon establishes a highly erotized setting when Robert and George go fishing. This intimacy is
evident from both men [strolling slowly] along the margin of [the] stream in silence. But also deep
still waters and branches [and] brooks enclose this intimacy between them (63). As Robert and George

The Rituals Of The Ancient Egyptian Civilization
The rituals pertaining to the ancient Egyptian civilization are both fascinating and the backbone for
modern funeral practices today. The funerary culture of the ancient Egyptians show some of the
earliest work in regards to the care of the deceased. While very little is known directly from the
Egyptians themselves, Ancient Greeks, historians and the myriad of finds thanks to past and present
archeology have helped shed light on the culture of embalming and death care practices. The ancient
Egyptians lived life through a polytheistic religion where multiple gods were worshipped for various
needs. Osiris was the god of the dead and of the underworld, and Anubis, the god of death. Their
afterlife was much sought after, to be one with Osiris and live for all of eternity that was claimed to be
bigger and better than their mortal world. Some interpretations showed what gave a person happiness
and comfort in life would be blessed upon them. If unworthy, life s pain, torture, and agony would be
bestowed on them as an eternal punishment. Another interpretation was the sinners would be banished
to a world of darkness, forever separated from the light and the gods. They would be forced to walk
the ceilings of the caves of the underworld and made to feast on the feces of the living. The worst
punishment of all was to be completely erased from existence, not a soul to remember them. Those in
good favor could look forward to an eternity of socialization with the gods where

Comprehensive Curriculum Paper
Part 1: Introduction to the Comprehensive Curriculum Project The purpose of the Comprehensive
Curriculum Project (CCP) is to analyze the myriad of issues that have arisen over the last few years
revolving around curricula and its use in the classroom, school, and district. With the 2010 state
adoption of the Common Core, educators experienced many different transitional issues and
developmental issues revolving around the curricula. In order to develop a deeper understanding of
these issues it is important to conduct interviews, look at the Teacher Working Conditions survey, and
to analyze local organizational models that might affect the transition to the new standards. Ralph
Tyler (1957) describes curriculum as . . . all the learning experiences planned and directed by the
school to attain its educational goals (Glatthorn, 2011, p.3). Going by this definition, one can regard
curricula as encompassing what is taught in the classroom, as well as ... Show more content on

Being able to develop a culture of collaboration and high student achievement requires rigorous
curriculum development at the school and district levels. Curriculum and instruction work together to
enhance student learning. Curriculum revolves around what is taught in school and instruction centers
around how something is taught. (Sorenson, 2011, p. 32 35) To be more specific instruction can be
defined as, the strategies, techniques, materials, media, and place where the curriculum is
implemented in schools. If instruction, or the how, of a teacher does not match up to the curriculum, or
the what, then student achievement will suffer. Vertically and horizontally aligning curriculum with
the instruction that is happening within the classroom and school will in the end lead to greater student
achievement which will be reflected on student assessments. (Sorenson, 2011, p.

Ignorance During The Middle Ages
If you look at different time periods throughout history from a historian s point of view, the Middle
Ages is a era widely accepted to be a period of ignorance where little to no advancement took place.
Superstition replaced philosophical thinking, and religion overpowered everything else. The
Renaissance however, was the polar opposite. It was a rebirth of European civilization and often
characterized by the escalation of interest in classical learning and values. During the Renaissance
ground breaking invention or application of influential innovations took place with paper, printing, the
mariner s compass, and gunpowder. There were significant changes in science, such as the substitution
of the Copernican for the Ptolemaic system of astronomy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many agree that the science of archaeology had its birth in the classical revival. The Roman ruins
were the first object that attracted the devoted curiosity of the Italian scholars. Due the rise of
humanism and critical thinking, the artifacts that remained inherently sparked a need to understand a
history of their ancestors. During the Renaissance, the fascination in the history and culture of past
civilizations grew, and lead to exceptional discoveries all over the world. By tracking the story of
mankind, it allowed the scholars of the day as well as present day scholars, to have an entirely new
view of the beginning of history. If it wasn t for the questioning spirit that defined the Renaissance,
there wouldn t have been an urge to explore past cultures using the remains they left behind. With this
new information on past civilizations and a revolutionized form of critical thinking, came the science
of historical criticism. The founder of this field was Laurentius Valla. His most celebrated
achievement was the confirmation of the unauthentic character of the Donation of Constantine, a
forged Roman Imperial decree where emperor Constantine I transferred authority over the western
part of the Roman Empire to the Pope. Vala s achievements paved the way for historical criticism
during the time. He began a period of examining historical sources thoroughly and discovering its true
value. This new

Modernism Poetry Analysis
Modernism is a movement that took place between the late 19th and early 20th centuries around the
idea that poetry and other works of art should break the normal structure and break tradition. Imagisim
is a movement that brought about modernism and was focused around the idea that poetry should have
a clear and descriptive language and should bring an image to the readers mind. In Archibald
MacLeish s poem, Ars Poetica he asserts that a poem carries meaning in itself and has just as much
meaning as the thing it describes. The poem is structured as a guide to how a poem should be written
and is divided into three stanzas describing different aspects of a poem. In the first stanza, MacLeish is
telling the reader to show and not to tell. A poem should be palpable and mute As a globed fruit Dumb
As old medallions to the thumb.(MacLeish 1 4)
In these first two couplets MacLeish is telling us that poetry should have a certain authenticity to it,
that rather than describing something it should paint a picture in the mind of the reader. He is saying
that when you describe something it is too specific and when you paint a picture in the readers mind
you use abstract ideas in order to allow them to fill in the blanks. MacLeish does this himself in these
two couplets with the lines ...As a globed fruit... and ...As old medallions to the thumb... (MacLeish 2
4). He uses word choice such as globed fruit to give the reader an idea as to what he means but not tell

Victoria s Influence On Tom Luis Luis De Victoria
The 16th century was a time of the Spanish Inquisition, which reigned for almost 400 years, forcing
those who weren t Catholic to convert to Catholicism (Koeller). Catholicism was a major influence in
all aspects of Spanish life at that time, ranging from music to art and daily living. Being a 16th century
composer, Tomás Luis De Victoria was greatly influenced by the Catholic Church. Most, if not all of
his music consisted of sacred pieces (Ferris). He was a Spanish polyphonic composer whose specialty
was in motets. Not only was he one of the greatest composers and musicians of his time, he was also a
scholar, a mystic, and a priest.
Victoria was born in 1548 in Sanchidrián, Spain, a province of Avila, Castile to father, Francisco Luis
de Victoria and mother, Francisca Suárez de la Concha. Victoria was seventh of eleven children who
were born into a family already leading vast and successful careers. Three of his male cousins (on his
mother s side) achieved success by being a naval commander, a pioneer in Mexico, and a merchant in
Florence. The merchant married Grand Duke Cosimo I de Medici s sister in law and was ennobled.
The uncle on Victoria s father s side, who he was named after, was a lawyer who pleaded cases before
the royal chancery at Valladolid (a city in north central Spain) and was later a priest. His other uncle
on his father s side was also a priest (Stevenson).

Economy And Its Impact On The Economy Essay
Sometime in late 1950 s Minsky started warning about the gradual shift of the economy from a very
robust financial system that was stable and with no financial crisis in the early postwar period. He had
called with his analysis that gradually over time debts in the private sector would tend to build up and
increasingly risky financial innovations would increase over time. He is very famous for the statement
that stability itself is destabilizing. Although things seem very stable today, gradually over time that
stability would build confidence in individuals to take increasingly risky positions in assets. The
model that he had built explains financial crisis in the economic system. He brings up that supply of
credit increases during boom and abruptly decreased during economic slowdown. It seems almost
intuitive that from a standpoint of an investor the great time to invest is when economy is booming to
increase his or her profitability. Lenders as the investors become increasingly optimistic about their
return and they both become less sensitive to risk. But when the economy starts slowing down
investors sell out their holding to not to lose more of their assets making the economy even more
worse off. All of the New Deal structure that have been put in place in the economy during the great
depression, drove tremendous buildup of government debt in World War II and gave a very safe asset
for the private sector. This would be in a sense leverage, safe government debt

No film has captivated my imagination more than King Kong. I m making movies today because I

There is bewilderment to decry in Peter Jackson s King Kong, but one progression that is comparably
mellowed and a grip to the key movie s success. Kong has conquered Ann Darrow and carried her to
his landing place, high on the mountain. He laid her down, not roughly, starts to roar, and expose his
teeth and beat his chest. Ann who is an unemployed vaudeville acrobat, in some way naturally knows

Abstract Over current in a power system is a situation when a larger than rated electric current exists
through a conductor, leading to excessive generation of heat, and the risk of fire or damage to
equipment Possible causes for over current include short circuits, excessive load, incorrect design, or a
ground fault. This paper presents the design and implementation of a microcontroller based
overcurrent relay for safe, reliable and efficient operation of power systems. Automated overcurrent
protection is done by programming a Arduino (microcontroller) with standard ABB moderately
inverse relay characteristics where the relay operates automatically in a permissible time whenever
there is an over current (abnormal or fault condition) in a power system [2].

The Importance Of Blood Relations Towards Men
This paper examines the Canadian Blood Service s (CBS) current one year deferral policy towards
men who have sexual contact with other men (MSM). Homosexual or bisexual men can donate blood
and blood products only after not having any form of sexual contact with other men for one year
(Canadian Blood Services, 2016). This paper studies how this policy contributes to stigma against
MSM. This paper also aims to address this social inequity by promoting an advocacy that focus on

Consequently, MSM deferral policy discriminates against a specific group of people from donating
blood due to their sexual orientation as it prohibits those who are in general good health, thus, are fit
to donate (Diaz, 2013). Gay males may also neglect HIV testing due to fear of stigmatization (O
Bryne Watts, 2012), which further impairs their access to healthcare services and promotes health and
social inequity.
The residual risk for HIV is estimated at less than 1 in 8 million units at Canadian Blood Services
(Goldman et. al, 2014). The risk is so low that it can only be estimated after all safeguard measures
have been followed (Billick et. al, 2015). While the deferral policy puts stigma against MSM, it may
have helped lessen the risk of BT contamination and helped promote safety among blood recipients
through a precautionary approach.
This paper aims to advocate for changes regarding the CBS one year policy deferral for MSM and
CBS donor questionnaire. The CBS screening questions that identify sexual identity or orientation
should be eliminated because they create stigma against MSM or females who have sexual contact
with MSM. While HIV infection are more prevalent within the MSM community, they are not
mutually exclusive to this population and exclusion questionnaires which identify a person s sexual
orientation may be indefinite because of people s different

Media Influence On The Media
The media played an immense role in shaping the publics resentment and negative attitudes towards
the crime Lindy Chamberlin had supposedly committed, by picturing her as neglectful and murderess
mother. The media had perceived Lindy in a harsh light and the public saw her as un emotive and
neglecting mother and for this she was vastly scrutinized. The publics attitudes towards her are based
on her unmotherly behavior because she did not act like a grief stricken mother, have hysteric, go into

Executive Summary
This report aims to analyze and attempt to reduce Logan airport s delay problem in the year 2000. The
airport was experiencing unacceptable numbers of delays due to three main problems: 1) Weather
conditions, 2) Mix of aircrafts, and 3) Overscheduling. Under normal weather, the three runway
configuration is sufficient to handle incoming and outgoing planes. However, the delay problem at
Logan is the most acute during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3. Overscheduling
Although overscheduling was not considered a problem at Logan Airport when the case was written, it
was proved to be a potential problem in the future as the number of passengers that use Logan Airport
increases. Since 90% of the flights started or ended there, the airport has little slack to recover from
delays because the flights arrived uniformly over each hour, unlike other airports with more staggered
schedule. In general, increasing the capacity of the airport can solve the flight delay problem at Logan
Airport.
In order to help Logan Airport reduce flight delays, four alternatives will be examined in the report: 1)
Regional solution, 2) New runway, 3) Peak period pricing (PPP), and 4) The combination of new
runway and PPP. Recommendations will be provided after analytical discussions of each alternative.
Assumptions and Facts
This report is based on several assumptions drawn from the facts outline in the Logan case. First, we
will assume that Logan airport operates 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Furthermore, it is
assumed that the processing system is a single phase service process, which means that each server
(runway) performs the same set of activities on one customer (aircraft) at a time. Each aircraft is
processed in the first come first serve (FCFS) order. Since 90%

Gilgamesh And The Epic Of Gilgamesh
The maturation of Gilgamesh and his desire to acquire wisdom throughout his journey is quite
apparent. By overcoming difficulties such as upholding Uruk, becoming friends with Enkidu, and
various other scenarios, Gilgamesh proves that he did in fact grow up throughout the epic. As the epic
starts, Gilgamesh is portrayed as a self centered, self admiring leader who believes that he is the only
individual that can lead the city of Uruk. Gilgamesh believes that he is a god like figure and often
refers to himself as one. He believes that he is above everyone else in the city of Uruk. For example,
in the epic there is a scene where Gilgamesh enters the city of Uruk, the epic describes the scene as;
He entered the city of Uruk the Town Square, and a crowd gathered around. He came to a halt in the
street of Uruk the Town Square, all gathered about, the people discussed him (15). This quote is a
good example of how Gilgamesh expected those around him to respect and look up to him as a god
like figure. He did not lead the city of Uruk humbly; he wasn t a leader who strived to feel like a
normal citizen of the city. Instead, Gilgamesh felt that he was entitled to more privileges than the
average person. Early on in the epic, Gilgamesh is described as a tall, magnificent and terrible, who
opened passes in the mountains, who dug wells on the slopes of the uplands, and crosses the ocean,
the wide sea to the sunrise (2). This demonstrates how selfish Gilgamesh truly was, and how all

Catalase Lab
Introduction This research experiment will fundamentally focus on the activity of catalase, an enzyme
that can be found in nearly every living organism. The essential function of catalase is to decompose
hydrogen peroxide to produce water and oxygen. This enzyme also plays a major role within the
protection of the cell from the oxidative damage that the reactive oxygen species are capable of
causing. In addition, catalase is known to have the ability of chemically converting substrates such as
hydrogen peroxide at the rate of approximately 5 million molecules to water and oxygen per second.
In terms of its biochemical structure, this enzyme has folded protein subunits organized in a multi
subunit complex of four polypeptide chains, with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the chemical reaction progresses, the presence and production of oxygen will determine the rate of
the enzyme s activity through the process. The rate of reaction of the enzyme set with every different
temperature will be acquired by measuring the amount of oxygen produced and present within the test
tubes in terms of the height its foam in millimeters within each trial. If the amount of foam or the
oxygen gas formed appears to be large, it will indicate that the rate of the enzyme s activity is
relatively rapid. Likewise, if the the amount of oxygen appears to be relatively fall under a lower
range of foam height, it will indicate that the rate of the enzyme s activity is slower. Nevertheless,
because this enzyme is a form of protein, it is appropriate to indicate that it is very fragile. This is
because as the temperature of the enzyme increases, the amino acids within the catalase cause a
vibration to separate intramolecular bonds. This leads to the an irreversible alteration of the protein s
structure to the point where hydrogen peroxide, the substrate no longer has the ability to be attached to
the active site, which disrupts the entire function of the

Defining Zero-Based Budgeting
ZERO BASED BUDGETING
What is Zero Based Budgeting?
Zero based budgeting is an innovative approach towards budgeting in corporations that is based on the
framing of assumptions about costs and benefits each time the budget is prepared. A budget is a plan
for the allocation of financial resources by an organization. Organizations possess finite financial
resources that managers allocate among various projects with the expectation that the utilization of
financial resources during the operation of these projects will enable the organization to earn a
targeted level of revenues or profits.
Like every plan, the budget is based on some assumptions about what the costs and revenues will be
affected by, and what the magnitude of these effects will be. These assumptions may change each time
a budget is made and thus may need to be incorporated in the new budget. As opposed to the
conventional form of budgeting which will be discussed later in this paper, zero based budgeting does
not assume that the assumptions made at the time of the last budget are still valid in the present
context. Therefore, the assumptions have to be developed again and justified before senior
management in order to win approval for the allocation of financial resources planned in the budget
(Prokopenko, 1987).
In revising the assumptions afresh, in zero based budgeting, the planner does not base his or her
estimates for the next year on the basis of the figures of the previous year. This is the historic

Examples Of Feminism In Jane Eyre And Wide Sargasso Sea
Feminism is a movement that I believe is misunderstood by those who do not try to understand it.
There was a time when I misunderstood what it meant to be a feminist and believed it to be a man
hating movement that strived to make women the rulers of the world and though I do not completely
despise the idea it was not something I was comfortable being a part of. Thanks to the mass media that
surrounds me in this millennium, I have learned that being a feminist and the feminist movement is
instead a movement meant to create equality of the sexes and to create a world that thrive off of that
equality. My research question for this extended essay is, A feminist critique of the roles of the
protagonist in Jane Eyre and Wide Sargasso Sea: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My thoughts differed for the two female protagonists. I felt that Jane was that she was a strong willed
character who had goals for herself and I really liked that her goals were about her bettering her life.
Her life plans did not involve her finding a man who could take care of her and make her financially
stable. My thoughts concerning Antoinette were different. I was disappointed in the choices she made
and I could not relate to her lack of willpower and confidence in herself. After reading the books I felt
that Jane Eyre could be considered a feminist novel but not Wide Sargasso Sea. I wanted to give an
educated feminist critique on the two novels before jumping to further conclusions which lead to me
searching for sources which would educate me as to what it means to really be a feminist

Light Detection And Ranging ( Lidar )
Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) has grown to become a vital technology used in remote sensing
technology from aerial or land based platforms. Environmentalists have used LiDAR extensively in
resource mapping for conservation efforts in the past. However, one of the promising applications of
LiDAR is planning and designing of engineering projects of varying magnitudes and complexities.
Some of the outstanding drawbacks of using traditional data acquisition methods include the amount
of time spent collecting the data and the reduction of the data during processing. Such issues are
significant in engineering projects due to the corresponding cost and safety implications. Using
LiDAR from aerial platforms allows engineers to acquire and process data quickly with high levels of
accuracy as compared to the traditional methods. LiDAR involves the use of directing single laser
pulses on targets and performing an analysis on time taken to receive the reflected pulses (Finkl,
2013). The data collected helps in the determination of elevation details of an area. Additionally,
engineers can use the global positioning system (GPS) and digital photography with the LiDAR
elevation details to present accurate and comprehensive information about the desired location for a
project. The current paper focuses on the LiDAR data generated from aerial sources although several
types of data exist. Literature Review Aerial based LiDAR The aerial based platforms using

Some of the wacky laws that are still on books today are: Every man has to carry a rifle to church to
ward off Indians, and that it s illegal to keep your horse in a bathtub. These laws were made a long
time ago, but the government didn t think it was necessary to take them off books. The high school
graduation rate, recorded in 2011, is 74%, which is higher than a lot of other states. Currently, there

Hispaniola And La Espanola, By Christopher Columbus Essay
Hispaniola or la Espanola, named by Christopher Columbus after his landing in 1492, is one of the
largest island lying in the Caribbean Sea. The island is divided politically into the Dominican Republic
and Haiti. One island, barely a barrier and yet, two completely different cultures and two completely
different nations. The island was divided as a result of colonization. While the French colonized the
west part of the island, what is today known as Haiti, and the Spanish colonized the east part of the
island and what is today known as the Dominican Republic. As a result of those two different
colonizations by two completely different nations with different cultures, Haiti and the Dominican
Republic became two nations. However, for two nations on the same island with similar ancestry and
a similar history, the Dominican Republic and Haiti are in a position where they could help each other
if they were ever a time help was needed. That is not the case. After colonization and they fought for
their freedoms, the history between the two nations turned bitter. Therefore, the political relationship
between Haiti and the Dominican Republic is a tense affair between two embittered nations occupying
one island. As it is, the Dominican Republic became independent in 1844, forty years after Haiti.
Unlike Haiti, the Dominican Republic was colonized by the Spaniards. Given the fact that Haiti
gained its independence before the Dominican Republic, most of the nation wanted to stay as

Impact Of Adolf Hitler The Leader Of The Nazi Party
HITLER BECOMES LEADER OF THE NAZI PARTY
On July 29th, 1921 Adolf Hitler becomes the leader of the NAZI party. In early 1921 the aspiring
leader had become good at giving speeches in front of large crowds. In February earlier that year, in
Munich, Hitler spoke in front of around six thousand people. At this point Hitler was starting to get
noticed outside of the NAZI party for his extreme views and powerful speeches. Slowly the many
extreme right wing in Munich started looking toward the rising politician and the NAZI movement as
the only person who would do something. Already Hitler was looking to carry his movement to the
rest of Germany, he then travelled to Berlin near the middle of 1921 to meet a nationalist group. In his
absence there was a revolt in the NAZI party leadership in Munich. At that point of time the Party was
still run by an executive committee whose members saw Hitler as arrogant and dictatorial. To weaken
Hitler s position, they formed an alliance with a group of socialists from Augsburg. July 11th, 1921,
Hitler made it back to Munich where he announced his resignation from the NAZI party. The leaders
of the party realised that the loss of Hitler would mean the end of the NAZIs. Hitler announced that he
would return to the party if the chairman gave him dictatorial powers. The committee members where
infuriated but after a while the committee gave in and put it down to a vote in which Adolf Hitler won
543 to 1. At the next gathering

Controversial Views In Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heights
Controversial Viewpoints Presented in Wuthering Heights
The plot and ongoing legacy of Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heights leaves readers with both the feeling
of astonishment and discomfort. Unlike most romantic stories of the 19th century, Wuthering Heights
employs the role of a disturbing novel that advertises itself as a love story. It portrays dark, gothic, and
often times morbid views of love and compassion. The social s dominance emerges in too much pain
and violence to become a comfort zone, the psychic s persistence ensures unquiet slumbers after all
the pain inflicted. Wuthering Heights, in other words, allows its aesthetics to complicate ideological
preference: imparting a complex reading experience liberal anguish creates ideological ... Show more

...she cannot do otherwise than as she does, she must marry... because there is no one else for her to
marry and a lady must marry. (Gilbert 97) During this time period, being a woman means you are
powerless, and your only option in life is to marry. To gain power, women would often marry a man of
a high social or financial status. Marrying Heathcliff, a lowly servant, would only decrease Catherine s
own status. This social constraint explains why Catherine betrayed her own heart. (Bronte, 37) As a
result of this betrayal, a heartbroken Heathcliff begins to formulate a plot for revenge. For seventeen
years Heathcliff wreaks his vengeance on Hindley, Edgar, and Isabella and on their children Hareton,
young Cathy, and Linton. The account of the trip is not pretty. Even in the love scenes before the elder
Cathy s death there is a savage passion which strikes terror to the heart of the beholder, unlike any
other scenes in the course of English fiction. (Watson 36) The love between Heathcliff and Catherine
takes a swift and unpleasant turn as both parties actively try to sabotage each other. It is ironic that a
social convention, such as marriage, that is meant to foster love and strengthen familial relationships,
has actually destroyed a genuine love and a family connection. Most readers find this moral conflict,
which was triggered by the social and financial expectations created through marriage during the time
period, to be highly unsettling, regardless of their viewpoint on the

A Safe Injection Site Is Essential For Esquimalt And Victoria In 2015, Victoria, BC saw an increase in drug overdoses throughout the city including one death occurring in Esquimalt (Times Colonist, 2015). Drug related overdose fatalities are preventable if the population has access to services that would minimize the risk of an overdose. Through the assessment of the community of Esquimalt, I am proposing that there is a need to establish a safe injection site to prevent accidental overdoses, as well as provide social services for detoxification and rehabilitation programs. Therefore, a safe injection site is a priority for Esquimalt. Moreover, safe injection sites have been proven to save taxpayer s dollars. According to Kerr and Woods (2009), an individual who uses intravenous drugs has an increased risk of contracting HIV. The lifetime cost of HIV per person is approximately $150,000. However, with proper intervention to decrease HIV rates, the healthcare system saves $130,000. This injection site I am proposing would be modeled after the InSite program in Vancouver. Pinkerton (2011) reports that this program has saved taxpayers $1.9 million a year in HIV and overdose related health costs. Therefore, a program like this in the community would be beneficial because it will ensure the marginalized members of the community are receiving care, but also decrease spending on future health care costs related to disease and overdose. Drug Addiction in Esquimalt While doing research on this community, it became apparent that the public has access to many different social services that have helped the residents achieve wellness (Abra et al., 2016), including Edgewood Health Network, a rehabilitation centre for addictions and mental health. Over the past three decades, research on this species has lead researchers to question the developmental processes that Drosophila experience (Bürglin 2016). The embryonic development of Drosophila serves as an important case study for developmental genetics, due to the analogous nature of their embryos cell differentiation. Evolution Of Drug Resistant Mycobacterium Tuberculosis Aniruddha Acharya Term paper BIOL 554 Spring 2015 Instructor Dr. Don Ennis Due date 4/27/2015 Title Evolution of drug resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Introduction Bacterial pathogen Mycobacterium tuberculosis causes tuberculosis a complex granulomatous disease which is a global health concern. It is a very slow growing bacteria, thus is extremely time consuming to culture in laboratory. It can survive the attack of the immune arsenal of our body; can successfully hide inside the macrophage. This makes long periods of uninterrupted antibiotic treatment necessary for the patients with tuberculosis and contributes to drug resistance very quickly [WHO 2014]. All this poses an extreme challenge to the scientists and the medical community to develop effective drug, monitor and treat this disease across globe. Before the discovery of anti tubercular drugs, this disease was one of the most dreaded diseases. In absence of any drugs the only form of treatment recommended was healthy diet, rest and fresh air. Patients were sent to Tuberculosis sanatorium hoping that they might survive. The origin of this pathogen is traced back to Africa around 70,000 years ago and they successfully coevolved with humans as they migrated out of Africa and settled across the globe. Nearly 10,000 years ago there was a sudden change in human demography and the human population density increased suddenly, this is termed as Neolithic Demographic Transition. While very little is known directly from the Egyptians themselves, Ancient Greeks, historians and the myriad of finds thanks to past and present archeology have helped shed light on the culture of embalming and death care practices. The ancient Egyptians lived life through a polytheistic religion where multiple gods were worshipped for various needs. Osiris was the god of the dead and of the underworld, and Anubis, the god of death. Their afterlife was much sought after, to be one with Osiris and live for all of eternity that was claimed to be bigger and better than their mortal world. Some interpretations showed what gave a person happiness and comfort in life would be blessed upon them. If unworthy, life s pain, torture, and agony would be bestowed on them as an eternal punishment. Another interpretation was the sinners would be banished to a world of darkness, forever separated from the light and the gods. They would be forced to walk the ceilings of the caves of the underworld and made to feast on the feces of the living. The worst punishment of all was to be completely erased from existence, not a soul to remember them. Those in good favor could look forward to an eternity of socialization with the gods where ... • 22. Comprehensive Curriculum Paper Part 1: Introduction to the Comprehensive Curriculum Project The purpose of the Comprehensive Curriculum Project (CCP) is to analyze the myriad of issues that have arisen over the last few years revolving around curricula and its use in the classroom, school, and district. With the 2010 state adoption of the Common Core, educators experienced many different transitional issues and developmental issues revolving around the curricula. In order to develop a deeper understanding of these issues it is important to conduct interviews, look at the Teacher Working Conditions survey, and to analyze local organizational models that might affect the transition to the new standards. Ralph Tyler (1957) describes curriculum as . . . all the learning experiences planned and directed by the school to attain its educational goals (Glatthorn, 2011, p.3). Ignorance During The Middle Ages If you look at different time periods throughout history from a historian s point of view, the Middle Ages is a era widely accepted to be a period of ignorance where little to no advancement took place. Superstition replaced philosophical thinking, and religion overpowered everything else. The Renaissance however, was the polar opposite. It was a rebirth of European civilization and often characterized by the escalation of interest in classical learning and values. Many agree that the science of archaeology had its birth in the classical revival. The Roman ruins were the first object that attracted the devoted curiosity of the Italian scholars. Due the rise of humanism and critical thinking, the artifacts that remained inherently sparked a need to understand a history of their ancestors. During the Renaissance, the fascination in the history and culture of past civilizations grew, and lead to exceptional discoveries all over the world. By tracking the story of mankind, it allowed the scholars of the day as well as present day scholars, to have an entirely new view of the beginning of history. If it wasn t for the questioning spirit that defined the Renaissance, there wouldn t have been an urge to explore past cultures using the remains they left behind. With this new information on past civilizations and a revolutionized form of critical thinking, came the science of historical criticism. The founder of this field was Laurentius Valla. His most celebrated achievement was the confirmation of the unauthentic character of the Donation of Constantine, a forged Roman Imperial decree where emperor Constantine I transferred authority over the western part of the Roman Empire to the Pope. Vala s achievements paved the way for historical criticism during the time. He began a period of examining historical sources thoroughly and discovering its true value. This new ... • 24. Modernism Poetry Analysis Modernism is a movement that took place between the late 19th and early 20th centuries around the idea that poetry and other works of art should break the normal structure and break tradition. Imagisim is a movement that brought about modernism and was focused around the idea that poetry should have a clear and descriptive language and should bring an image to the readers mind. In Archibald MacLeish s poem, Ars Poetica he asserts that a poem carries meaning in itself and has just as much meaning as the thing it describes. The poem is structured as a guide to how a poem should be written and is divided into three stanzas describing different aspects of a poem. In the first stanza, MacLeish is telling the reader to show and not to tell. A poem should be palpable and mute As a globed fruit Dumb As old medallions to the thumb.(MacLeish 1 4) In these first two couplets MacLeish is telling us that poetry should have a certain authenticity to it, that rather than describing something it should paint a picture in the mind of the reader. He is saying that when you describe something it is too specific and when you paint a picture in the readers mind you use abstract ideas in order to allow them to fill in the blanks. MacLeish does this himself in these two couplets with the lines ...As a globed fruit... and ...As old medallions to the thumb... (MacLeish 2 4). • 25. Victoria s Influence On Tom Luis Luis De Victoria The 16th century was a time of the Spanish Inquisition, which reigned for almost 400 years, forcing those who weren t Catholic to convert to Catholicism (Koeller). Catholicism was a major influence in all aspects of Spanish life at that time, ranging from music to art and daily living. Being a 16th century composer, Tomás Luis De Victoria was greatly influenced by the Catholic Church. Most, if not all of his music consisted of sacred pieces (Ferris). He was a Spanish polyphonic composer whose specialty was in motets. Not only was he one of the greatest composers and musicians of his time, he was also a scholar, a mystic, and a priest. Victoria was born in 1548 in Sanchidrián, Spain, a province of Avila, Castile to father, Francisco Luis de Victoria and mother, Francisca Suárez de la Concha. Victoria was seventh of eleven children who were born into a family already leading vast and successful careers. Three of his male cousins (on his mother s side) achieved success by being a naval commander, a pioneer in Mexico, and a merchant in Florence. The merchant married Grand Duke Cosimo I de Medici s sister in law and was ennobled. The uncle on Victoria s father s side, who he was named after, was a lawyer who pleaded cases before the royal chancery at Valladolid (a city in north central Spain) and was later a priest. Economy And Its Impact On The Economy Essay Sometime in late 1950 s Minsky started warning about the gradual shift of the economy from a very robust financial system that was stable and with no financial crisis in the early postwar period. He had called with his analysis that gradually over time debts in the private sector would tend to build up and increasingly risky financial innovations would increase over time. He is very famous for the statement that stability itself is destabilizing. Although things seem very stable today, gradually over time that stability would build confidence in individuals to take increasingly risky positions in assets. The model that he had built explains financial crisis in the economic system. He brings up that supply of credit increases during boom and abruptly decreased during economic slowdown. It seems almost intuitive that from a standpoint of an investor the great time to invest is when economy is booming to increase his or her profitability. By overcoming difficulties such as upholding Uruk, becoming friends with Enkidu, and various other scenarios, Gilgamesh proves that he did in fact grow up throughout the epic. As the epic starts, Gilgamesh is portrayed as a self centered, self admiring leader who believes that he is the only individual that can lead the city of Uruk. Gilgamesh believes that he is a god like figure and often refers to himself as one. He believes that he is above everyone else in the city of Uruk. For example, in the epic there is a scene where Gilgamesh enters the city of Uruk, the epic describes the scene as; He entered the city of Uruk the Town Square, and a crowd gathered around. He came to a halt in the street of Uruk the Town Square, all gathered about, the people discussed him (15). This quote is a good example of how Gilgamesh expected those around him to respect and look up to him as a god like figure. He did not lead the city of Uruk humbly; he wasn t a leader who strived to feel like a normal citizen of the city. Instead, Gilgamesh felt that he was entitled to more privileges than the average person. • 38. Defining Zero-Based Budgeting ZERO BASED BUDGETING What is Zero Based Budgeting? Zero based budgeting is an innovative approach towards budgeting in corporations that is based on the framing of assumptions about costs and benefits each time the budget is prepared. A budget is a plan for the allocation of financial resources by an organization. Organizations possess finite financial resources that managers allocate among various projects with the expectation that the utilization of financial resources during the operation of these projects will enable the organization to earn a targeted level of revenues or profits. Like every plan, the budget is based on some assumptions about what the costs and revenues will be affected by, and what the magnitude of these effects will be. These assumptions may change each time a budget is made and thus may need to be incorporated in the new budget. As opposed to the conventional form of budgeting which will be discussed later in this paper, zero based budgeting does not assume that the assumptions made at the time of the last budget are still valid in the present context. Therefore, the assumptions have to be developed again and justified before senior management in order to win approval for the allocation of financial resources planned in the budget (Prokopenko, 1987). In revising the assumptions afresh, in zero based budgeting, the planner does not base his or her estimates for the next year on the basis of the figures of the previous year. Using LiDAR from aerial platforms allows engineers to acquire and process data quickly with high levels of accuracy as compared to the traditional methods. LiDAR involves the use of directing single laser pulses on targets and performing an analysis on time taken to receive the reflected pulses (Finkl, 2013). The data collected helps in the determination of elevation details of an area. Additionally, engineers can use the global positioning system (GPS) and digital photography with the LiDAR elevation details to present accurate and comprehensive information about the desired location for a project. The current paper focuses on the LiDAR data generated from aerial sources although several types of data exist. • 45. Hispaniola And La Espanola, By Christopher Columbus Essay Hispaniola or la Espanola, named by Christopher Columbus after his landing in 1492, is one of the largest island lying in the Caribbean Sea. The island is divided politically into the Dominican Republic and Haiti. One island, barely a barrier and yet, two completely different cultures and two completely different nations. The island was divided as a result of colonization. While the French colonized the west part of the island, what is today known as Haiti, and the Spanish colonized the east part of the island and what is today known as the Dominican Republic. As a result of those two different colonizations by two completely different nations with different cultures, Haiti and the Dominican Republic became two nations. However, for two nations on the same island with similar ancestry and a similar history, the Dominican Republic and Haiti are in a position where they could help each other if they were ever a time help was needed. That is not the case. After colonization and they fought for their freedoms, the history between the two nations turned bitter. Therefore, the political relationship between Haiti and the Dominican Republic is a tense affair between two embittered nations occupying one island. As it is, the Dominican Republic became independent in 1844, forty years after Haiti. Unlike Haiti, the Dominican Republic was colonized by the Spaniards. Given the fact that Haiti gained its independence before the Dominican Republic, most of the nation wanted to stay as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Impact Of Adolf Hitler The Leader Of The Nazi Party HITLER BECOMES LEADER OF THE NAZI PARTY On July 29th, 1921 Adolf Hitler becomes the leader of the NAZI party. In early 1921 the aspiring leader had become good at giving speeches in front of large crowds. In February earlier that year, in Munich, Hitler spoke in front of around six thousand people. At this point Hitler was starting to get noticed outside of the NAZI party for his extreme views and powerful speeches. Slowly the many extreme right wing in Munich started looking toward the rising politician and the NAZI movement as the only person who would do something. Already Hitler was looking to carry his movement to the rest of Germany, he then travelled to Berlin near the middle of 1921 to meet a nationalist group. In his absence there was a revolt in the NAZI party leadership in Munich. At that point of time the Party was still run by an executive committee whose members saw Hitler as arrogant and dictatorial. To weaken Hitler s position, they formed an alliance with a group of socialists from Augsburg. July 11th, 1921, Hitler made it back to Munich where he announced his resignation from the NAZI party. The leaders of the party realised that the loss of Hitler would mean the end of the NAZIs. Hitler announced that he would return to the party if the chairman gave him dictatorial powers. • 47. Controversial Views In Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heights Controversial Viewpoints Presented in Wuthering Heights The plot and ongoing legacy of Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heights leaves readers with both the feeling of astonishment and discomfort. Unlike most romantic stories of the 19th century, Wuthering Heights employs the role of a disturbing novel that advertises itself as a love story. It portrays dark, gothic, and often times morbid views of love and compassion. The social s dominance emerges in too much pain and violence to become a comfort zone, the psychic s persistence ensures unquiet slumbers after all the pain inflicted. Wuthering Heights, in other words, allows its aesthetics to complicate ideological preference: imparting a complex reading experience liberal anguish creates ideological ... (Gilbert 97) During this time period, being a woman means you are powerless, and your only option in life is to marry. To gain power, women would often marry a man of a high social or financial status. Marrying Heathcliff, a lowly servant, would only decrease Catherine s own status. This social constraint explains why Catherine betrayed her own heart. (Bronte, 37) As a result of this betrayal, a heartbroken Heathcliff begins to formulate a plot for revenge. For seventeen years Heathcliff wreaks his vengeance on Hindley, Edgar, and Isabella and on their children Hareton, young Cathy, and Linton. The account of the trip is not pretty. Even in the love scenes before the elder Cathy s death there is a savage passion which strikes terror to the heart of the beholder, unlike any other scenes in the course of English fiction. (Watson 36) The love between Heathcliff and Catherine takes a swift and unpleasant turn as both parties actively try to sabotage each other. It is ironic that a social convention, such as marriage, that is meant to foster love and strengthen familial relationships, has actually destroyed a genuine love and a family connection. Most readers find this moral conflict, which was triggered by the social and financial expectations created through marriage during the time period, to be highly unsettling, regardless of their viewpoint on the ...
