Gay Parents
There is the misconception that people of the LGBT community are unfit to raise children and be
parents. This, however, is not true, and there have been many studies done that prove the sexuality of
parents does not harm a child s development in any way. It has also been recognized that gay parents
tend to be more attentive, and are very helpful to the world when finding children homes. This goes to
show that, queer people are just as qualified to be parents as anyone else.
Some people in this world have this idea that gay people are bad parents. They say that children suffer
more in the care of LGBT parents; that children end up being less intelligent than their peers, and that
they have a higher chance of being bullied. Some people also believe that gay parents push their
lifestyle on to their children, and that it could potentially turn them gay. Both of these beliefs are
wrong, and only show how close minded society can be at times. There has been no correlation found
that says the sexual orientation of parents affects children negatively. As for children who are being
bullied for having LGBT+ parents, it only goes to show that people need to teach their children to
respect the differences of others. Also, bullying in general is an issue that needs to be addressed, and
gay parents should not be at fault for any teasing that may occur. These concerns that people have on
queer parenting, aren t actually very concerning things. It s been proven time and time

Statutory Rape Essay
The perspective offered by such longitudinal data sheds remarkable light on the problem of statutory
rape, identifying for us key markers, as well as key actors, in the history of the law s enforcement and
helping us to understand their roles in constructing the meaning of this crime over successive
generations. ... The statutory rape codes have been used at various times to reinforce fathers interests
in their daughters marriageability, to protect young women s chastity from seductive men, to control
promiscuous or disease laden adolescent females, to enhance child support collection efforts, to reduce
teenage pregnancy, and to identify and punish sexual exploitation of teenagers. ... Given the constant

Perpetrators of statutory rape were not being pursued vigorously, as the concept of rape based on
presumed inability to consent to sex had fallen out of favor. ... As conservative commentators decried
the harmful public and financial consequences of the rising teen birth rate, a handful of social
scientists devoted their efforts to learning more about the relationships and behaviors that led to births
among teenagers: they studied the youth population and their sexual partners looking for clues to
explain changing patterns of behavior. ... Pursuant to changes in the SRVPP Guidelines, California s
statutory rape enforcement policy grew to encompass all forms of non pregnancy inducing sex
between adults and minors (including sexual behavior short of intercourse, acts between adult women
and teen boys, and acts between same sex partners), as well as crimes involving multiple victims,
pimping/prostitution, the provision of alcohol or drugs to minors, acquaintance rape, and rape of
disabled minors. ... These same themes emerged in the early 1990s, when a new set of fiscally and
morally conservative policymakers became concerned about rising welfare costs and the
demographics of the populations receiving welfare; like their predecessors, they constructed statutory
rape as antithetical to the social norms of financial and sexual responsibility and dangerous to society

Speech On Pickled Eggs
If you ve never tasted a pickled egg you are missing out! For vinegar lovers, hard boiled egg lovers
and pub goers, pickled eggs are the perfect snack. Pickled eggs are hard boiled eggs that are preserved
in vinegar and seasonings for at least two days.
It was thought that the British brought pickled eggs to America, but others are certain that it was the
Germans. Whoever brought them, thank you! These sweet and sour eggs have become popular in
pubs, taverns and bars all over the world due to their harmonious pairing with beer.
Many early recipes came from the Pennsylvania Dutch, including several recipes for pickled beet eggs
where whole beets, onions, vinegar, sugar, salt, cloves, and a cinnamon stick are used as the brine.

Boil them till they are hard; throw them into cold water immediately while hot, which will make the
shells slip off smoothly without breaking the eggs. Boil some red beets till very soft; peel and mash
them fine, and put enough of the juice into some plain cold vinegar to color it a fine pink; add a very
little salt, pepper, nutmeg and cloves; put the eggs into a jar, and transfuse the vinegar, c. over them.
They make a delightful garnish to remain whole, for poultry, game fish still more beautiful when cut

octopus that have the numbers written in order above each leg. I will have students say aloud the
number of each leg, and count out green puffballs that represent the number each leg is. Below the
octopus is a scene of the ocean. Here I have attached different sea animals. Each one has a different
number of the same type of animal. (Ex: fish, turtle, and crab) I will have students help me count the

Here the theme is based on a movie theater. I have Popsicle sticks that have numbers 1 20 written on

writes the number they will use magnetic movie tickets and stick the number of movie tickets on the
ten frame that represents the number on the popsicle stick the drew. Next the student will use fake
popcorn and count popcorn into a popcorn bag for the number they drew.
Right side: This side I designed for students who are a little more advanced. I spray painted this side
with chalkboard paint so that the students can directly write on the board. The students will role a dice
to determine the number they are going to use. They will then fill in the four boxes on the chalkboard
paint. The first one requires them to write the number. The second one has the student write tally
marks for the number. The third box asks the students to fill in a ten frame. Lastly, the fourth one has
the students draw a picture. (Example: draw 3 triangles, 4 squares.)

ways through manufacturing in history that affected our future in goods and resources.
Industrialization started in the eighteenth century in Britain. Britain s system involved machinery and

Britain made laws prohibiting the export of workers to American so assure no competition arises.

The Pros And Cons Of The Prohibition Era
The Prohibition Era, 1920 1933, was a time of turmoil and conflict as the ban of alcohol brought with
it the growth of organized crime in United States. The nationwide prohibition of alcohol was
introduced to solve social issues and most significantly, lower crime and corruption. Initially
established due to nationwide Temperance movements stating that banning alcohol would decrease
crime, however the banning of alcohol led to increased organized crime. Organized crime in America
grew during Prohibition due to the mafia, gangs and the mob utilizing the public demand for alcohol
for their own economic gain, bootlegging alcohol, using extortion and violence, all in is larger
quantities than was present before the 18th Amendment was passed. A Public demand for alcohol and
lack of enforcement of the 18th Amendment led to such an unsuccessful movement and eventually the
first United States Constitution Amendment to be repealed fully. The results of the 13 year noble
experiment are why the Prohibition Era and the 18tht Amendment were a complete failure. The 18th

most profitable endeavors before 1920, still remaining profitable during Prohibition Era. Other areas
of criminal activity facilitated by gangsters before and throughout Prohibition included robbery,
hijacking, and contract killing. Although not as profitable, they aided in the maintaining of the

Why Canada Is A Social Policy Perspective
1. Canada is known to be one of the most developed countries in the world, with a wide range of
social programs that contribute to a high standard of living. As with many mixed economies, Canada
could be described as a welfare society , meaning that the government plays a major role in ensuring
the well being of its citizens. This comes in the form of free healthcare, access to education,
employment insurance and various other social programs. Despite Canada s record of being a fiscally
balanced and responsible nation, there are still several pressing issues facing the economy and country
as a whole, specifically from a social policy perspective. Four key issues include:
I. Senior Citizen Income Security
It is estimated that by 2030, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Service Canada, 2013)
As a senior policy analyst, I would purpose that the Government of Canada take steps to educate
citizens about the importance of individual household fiscal responsibility, and having a personal
retirement fund. I would also suggest creating an incentive that gives major employers a tax break, in
exchange for providing their employees with private sector retirement and pension plans.
II. Low income Assistance
The Canadian Welfare system provides financial support to citizens in need and attempts to ensure
that individuals and families are not at risk of living in poverty.
While this policy works in theory, there are many flaws to the system, which hurt the average citizen,
as opposed to protecting them. For example, it is nearly impossible for someone to apply for low
income assistance, if they have any type of savings in the bank.
In essence, this means for an individual in need, they must first drain their entire savings, retirement
and education accounts, before becoming eligible for provincial benefits. This makes it incredibly
difficult for someone to escape the welfare system and cycle of poverty, essentially forcing them to
become destitute. (Mosebraalen, 2010)
The guidelines surrounding a Welfare recipient s right to work also complicate the process. Working
part time or even temporary jobs will disqualify an individual from receiving benefits. Often times,
this will discourage people from even trying to find employment.

Understanding Do The Right Thing
Understanding Do the Right Thing
While the 1970 s and 80 s marked a decline in movies featuring black actors and a lack of black
directors, the mid 1980 s through the 1990 s invited a new generation of filmmakers and rappers,
engaging with the New Jack image, transforming the Ghettos of yesteryears into the hood of today. A
major director that emerged during this time was Spike Lee. According to Paula Massood s book
titled, Black City Cinema, African American Urban Experiences in Film, ...Lee not only transformed
African American city spaces and black filmmaking practices, he also changed American filmmaking
as a whole. Lee is perhaps one of the most influential film makers of the time, likely of all time. He
thrusted black Brooklyn into light, shifting away from the popularity of Harlem. By putting complex
characters into an urban space that is not only defined by poverty, drugs, and crime, it suggests the
community is more than the black city it once was, it is instead a complex cityscape. Despite them
being addressed to an African American audience, Lee s film attract a mixed audience. Spike lee s Do

New Greatest Generation
The New Greatest Generation 1. They are the most threatening and exciting generation since the Baby
Boomers brought about social revolution, not because they re to take over the Establishment but they
re growing up without one. (p.28, 2nd column) I do not agree with this quote at all. There has always
been an establishment but us millennials do not use it. We are far more less social then any previous
generation in existance. We tend to avoid people in public unless we really have too. We hide behide
technology and for that we are not really able communicate in the real world. Without our technology
we would not be able to function socially. 2. They have less civic engagement and lower political
participation than any previous group. (p.28, 2nd column) Without a doubt in my mind I one hunderd
percent agree that this quotation is correct. Millennials could care less about whats going on in our
government. From my experience, millenials only care for themselves, they don t care whats going on
around them. They don t care at a point where they are considering voting for Trump for laughs and
giggles. 3. What Millennials are most famous for besides narcissism is its effect: entitlement. (p.28,

Analysis Of Tom Wacaster s Book Galatians
In his book, Studies in Galatians, Tom Wacaster addresses a very vital need: to provide common level,
sound commentaries of the Bible. Books such as this are very beneficial, as they assist an average
member of the church to expand their understanding of God s word. This, as Wacaster stated himself,
was his goal in writing this very commentary. If [Studies in Galatians] serves to give just one precious
soul a better understanding of this wonderful letter...then it will have been worth the time spent in
preparing and publishing (3, 4). Wacaster has surely accomplished this worthy objective and more
with this valuable book. Wacaster s book, which is (as the title suggests) centered on Paul s epistle to
the Galatians, is very obviously intended to the common level, average audience. Wacaster does not
delve into complex conversations of textual variants, manuscript discrepancies, and disputations of
authorship, nor does he use vocabulary or phraseology that is above the understanding of most
individuals. Rather, Wacaster is simple, straightforward, and effective in communicating his points on
the wonderful book of Galatians. With many commentaries that are written at a graduate and scholarly
level, a more basic approach is much appreciated and needed. Wacaster took a very direct approach in
organizing Studies in Galatians. It is setup as a verse by verse commentary, with each verse being
given in the American Standard Version and then followed by the author s discussion of

It was a cold winter of 1704 and an English settlement that was in the mid Connecticut River valley,
became a place for a great intercultural, international conflict. Deerfield was raided by French and
Native forces in an ongoing struggle with the English for control of native lands and resources. Native

The scene is horrible, bodies lay on the ground killed by guns, hatchets, and knives even war clubs all
just beyond words. The bodies on the ground are not the only ones they find, in the houses they find
much more. Some that hid in the cellars died as they were trapped in the fire. Mothers, fathers and
children burned and smothered in what they thought would be safe.
There were ones that were wounded that needed to be looked after as well and these were the lucky
ones. There is tales of others like the young couple whose home was so small that the snow covered it
and it could not be seen and a woman who hid under an overturned tub. These stories are not bound by
evidence but by stories being passed down and is to interesting to overlook when telling the story.
The living, the wounded, and the escaped of Deerfield had to get on with life. Tradition says that there
was a mass burial in the town cemetery a sorrowful task for all that survived.
In the weeks and months that passed groups of men began arriving from other towns. All debating
whether or not they should go after the captives and retake them. All agreed that if they did this they

Online Dating Vs. Internet

March 9, 2015
Online Dating Online dating is one of the most over hyped and probably one of the worst places to
find someone to have a romantic relationship with. But, with social networking becoming all the rage,
online dating has become a huge phenomenon that has caught trend nationwide. In todays society it is
considered the norm for human connections to be initiated by internet connections. We live in a
century of emails, text messages, and Facebook friending that has become established as a real
relationship bond. While connecting with friends, family, coworkers, etc. can be easily completed by
the use of the internet, while it is convenient and sometimes the best way, establishing a romantic
connection with someone through the internet seems a bit interpersonal and dangerous. Judging by the
massive amounts of dating apps and websites available, we are desperate to find the one , and fast.
Dating online takes the intimacy out of getting to know someone and its just not natural. Many people
get lost in the idea that on this dating app could be their special one that they will spend the rest of
their life with but they forget that at the same time it presents a grave danger to women and men alike.
Through a profile you can only learn what that person wants you to know and we have no choice to
believe what they are saying is true. Like the MTV show Catfish, this is not always the case. People

Imperfection and Faith in A Good Man is Hard to Find and...
Knowing Flannery O Connor s religious conviction, one cannot overlook this underlying tone in both
of her regarded stories A Good Man is hard to Find and Good Country People . It is often said of those
who stand outside of religious conviction that faith seems to come in handy to people only when it is
valuable to get them out of a predicament, of which they have likely placed themselves through
insensitive behavior and decisions. In such a desperate attempt to appeal to faith, one only finds
emptiness and a fate that leaves them hopeless or even dead. O Connor s A Good Man is Hard to Find
and Good Country People illustrate that the inability to see the flaws in one s self lead to substantial
consequences, where an appeal to faith ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The grandmother s bigotry is also on display as the family rides past a black youth standing near his
modest home. Her reaction to seeing him is like walking past an adorable dog; Oh look at the cute
little pickaninny! (12). When her granddaughter June Starr comments on the boy s lack of clothing,
the grandmother explains that little niggers in the country don t have things like we do (12). As the
grandmother emits racism through her comments, she is also inserting such notion into her
grandchildren s minds. Nor Bailey or his wife says anything, so it can be suggested that they are used
to such comments and may hold the same views as well. The grandmother does not see a reason to be
empathetic; the boy waves and she does return the gesture. Instead she romanticizes the boy s plight as
a missed opportunity, suggesting that If [she] could paint, [she d] paint that picture (12).
Not only is the grandmother intolerant, but she is also quite vain, with an entire paragraph illustrating
her choice of clothing for the road trip. Most people going on a road trip dress casually and

`` Handbook Of Christian Apologetics `` Essay
Christian teachings have been challenged by unbelievers since the beginning of history. Today,
because the new discoveries of science, the existence of God has been doubted even more, and as a
consequence, society has become more selfish, self centered and self existent. Questions such as, Does
God actually exist? Is there any evidence of his existence? Is it Christianity the only true religion?
have been asked by believers and unbelievers through the past centuries. Two philosophers from
Boston College, Peter Kreeft, and Ronald K. Tacelli, in their book Handbook of Christian Apologetics
answer the most common questions about faith and reason, God s existence, Christ and other Christian
doctrines.
In Chapter 1, Kreeft and Tacelli talk about the importance and need for Apologetics. It importance
comes, first, because with Apologetics we are able to give reasons for faith as an act of obedience to
God. And secondly, because Apologetics is necessary to convince unbelievers and build up believers.
Furthermore, apologetics is extremely needed today because we are living in a civil, cultural,
intellectual crisis, and especially a spiritual one. Thus, we need truth and trough Apologetics, with
faith and reason, we can find it.
In Chapter 2, faith and reason are described as allies. They are interrelated. As faith is a subpart of
reason, reason is a subclass of faith. Both of them are necessary for Apologetics, without faith and
reason Apologetics is impossible. Faith and reason

Archimedes Accomplishments
The year is 287 B.C.E, Alexander the Great Has been dead for fifty years and the kingdom he left to
his generals has begun to fracture. Around 300 B.C.E the Punic Wars began, throwing Greece into
disarray. The Hellenistic Age is coming to a close. However, at least one good thing came of this year.
One of the greatest engineers in history is born. His name is Archimedes and he will change the world.
Archimedes life, achievements, and effect on the modern world of engineering make him one of the
most prominent and important figures in the ancient world. Unfortunately little is known about the life
of Archimedes. In 287 B.C.E he was born in Syracuse. His father was an astronomer named Pheidias

lever made lifting easier. Storys say that Archimedes once said, Give me a lever and a place to stand,
and I will move the world. Another extremely important innovation by Archimedes was the pulley. He
created a complex system of pulleys that allowed him to lift almost anything. Another story says that a
team of men, after great effort dragged a trireme onto the beach. The men all boarded the ship along
with their animals and Archimedes was able to lift the ship and move it easily by himself. The
Archimedes Screw was another impressive invention by Archimedes. The screw is massive and
capable of lifting water from the ground. It is still used today in some third world countries.Other
inventions by Archimedes included, the concept of buoyancy. He proved that, when building boats,
the material does not matter so much as how spread out it is. Archimedes was also the first person to

Luther And The Christian Nobility Of The German Nation
In Martin Luther s To the Christian Nobility of the German Nation, Luther writes to the German
princes on the three walls that the Catholic Church uses to defend themselves from reform. Luther
attacks all three walls for the power it gives to the Pope. His attack of the second wall, that only the
pope can interpret scripture, is a tenant of Luther s theology. The Lutheran belief of Sola Scriptura
holds that only Scripture should be the source of all Christian practices, rather than doctrines declared
by popes or other teaching authorities. While the second wall reflects a legitimate belief of Luther s
theology, Luther writes on this topic to the german nobility because it is politically beneficial towards
himself, his movement, and the princedoms of Germany, not necessarily for religious reasons. These
political motives are illustrated when studying the relationship between the church, the princes, and
the Holy Roman Empire in Germany at the time, Luther s response to the Peasant Revolt of 1525, and
the scholars of The Church at the time.
1 Luther attacks the second wall, that the pope alone can interpret scriptures, by citing scriptures
himself. He says that there is no basis for the pope s power in the Bible, rather, only incidences of the
people s power. The equality of all Christian believers was first stated in the first wall when arguing
that temporal powers should be able to punish those clergy who do wrong, but Luther adds more to
this in the second wall when quoting

Radio Frequency Identification ( Rfid ) Essay
Abstract Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a technology for automated identification of people
and products, and is getting more involved in our daily lives. RFID consists of a RFID tag or
transponder, a RFID reader or transceiver, and the data processing system has been evolving with
time. RFID technology is also helpful when used with money, but there is a main limitation while
using RFID technology. It is privacy and security. That is why, Electrical and computer engineers
work with this limitation, so RFID would be the future for all engineers.
Index Terms RFID Electromagnetics, term paper I.INTRODUCTION
For many people, using a card to access a building or a door, a key to start a car or validating an
underground ticket have become a routine without realizing that they are making use of a technology
that captures data because of the magnetic field. The technology is known as Radio Frequency
IDentification or RFID. [1] Just as people use RFID in their daily lives, this technology is also used in
objects, as the travel from manufacture to storage and finally the point of sale. Also, they carry RFID
tags like people do. People show their RFID cards and objects don t. These tags are read in different
ways and need greater detection distances.
RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) can be defined as an automatic identification technology
which uses radio frequency electromagnetic fields to identify objects carrying tags when they come
close to a reader. [2]

Capital Punishment During The Colonial Era
The public opinion within the United States on capital punishment has fluctuated since its early
establishment during the colonial era. The debate about the use of capital punishment has been shaped
by factors such as class, gender, age but most importantly race.
During the colonial era, Britain was the biggest influence on America when it came to utilizing the
death penalty. The death penalty was used for minor offenses such as stealing, killing animals, and
trading with Indians. As the late 1700s approached, a movement towards abolishing the death penalty
began. Beccaria wrote an essay in 1767 called Crimes and Punishment, that had a significant impact
on the world s opinion towards the death penalty (Bohm,1999). Beccaria suggested ... Show more

Zimring began to research executions by different regions in the United States and noted the
similarities between historical lynching trends and current patterns in the use of Capital punishment
(Gabbidon and Greene). Throughout the research Zimring conducted, he noticed that there was a
strong correlation between legal lynchings and death penalty executions after lynching were made
illegal. The data indicated through 1889 to 1918 that 88 percent of lynchings were carried out in the
South. In comparison, through 1977 to 2000 81 percent of executions were held in the South
(Gabbidon and Greene). In conclusion, Zimring believed that the death penalty is a racialized system
that has replaced lynchings. This created a renaissance of capital punishment between the 1920s and
1940s. During the 1930s, there was an average of 167 executions each year. These annual numbers
were similar to the number of lynchings recorded in the 1890s (Vandiver, Giacopassi, Lofquist, 2006).
After this era, the support for death penalty began to slowly decline, as 42% of people showed support
for the death penalty in the 1950s (Bohm,1999).
Following the decline in the support of the death penalty, a moratorium on executions began in 1972
during the case Furman v. Georgia. Furman argued that the death penalty was arbitrary and violated
the constitution (Mallicoat and Brown 255 280). In a five to four vote, the Supreme Court

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus ( Hiv )
The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is an immune system disorder that can be contracted
through sexual activity as well as other types of contact. (Healthy Living, pg. 79) If left untreated this
virus can turn into AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome). AIDS is the final stage of the
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). (aids.gov) AIDS is an incurable progressive disease that
causes gradual destruction of CD4 T cells by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). (Diseases,
pg. 431) A healthy adult has a CD4 T cell count of 1,000 or more but a person suffering from HIV
could have a count lower than 200. CD4 T cells are crucial to the immune system; without them the
immune system would not have the ability to fight off infections. One of the disquieting facts about
AIDS is that the infected person may be asymptomatic for years. If the infected person does begin to
experience signs and symptoms, their initial complaints are usually fever, rigors, arthralgia (joint
pain), myalgia (muscle pain), maculopapular rash, urticaria (hives), abdominal cramps, and diarrhea.
(Diseases, pg. 432) Fatigue, anorexia, weight loss, night sweats, mental deterioration, persistent
cough, visual disturbances, intestinal inflammation, thick, white crust covering the inside of the
mouth, sores in the mouth, anus, or nose, and sometimes dyspnea are among symptoms that often
come along with AIDS. (Understanding and Caring for Human Diseases, pg. 346 350) Although there

American Marriage Culture
It can be argued that one of the most important aspects of culture are marriages. The union of two
people to symbolize the propagation of a system of belief and ideas passed down which become
inherent to their identity. Almost every culture has some type of marriage ritual in which unite two
different families and create an integral bond. Yet the similarities in the placed importance of marriage
traditions are not the same across the board, and their traditions also differ as well. Each culture or
group of people have different marriage customs, and do not share the same meaning of what a
marriage is or what it holds in society. The purpose of this paper is to analyze how American marriage
culture is different from Arab or Chinese. The paper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While researching and trying to notice cultural difference between each one an idea stuck out and
already made a distinction. Two words kept coming up for arab and chinese marriages which were,
honor and stigma. While all three had an exchange of some sort between families arab and chinese
seemed more of a transaction of honor and stigma while, American marriages were more of a romantic
transaction and take on the idea of marriages. (Philip) stated This is the image of the date as an outing
to a restaurant, a movie theater, or a romantic getaway at the seaside or at a luxurious (and romantic)
hotel . What this means is the extent of what americans go through to emphasize the romantic aspect
of a relationship. As stated in (Alean Al Krenawi Stephen O. Jackson) compared and contrasted the
honor and stigma that arab men and women should bring to their families when getting married and
what they should uphold. For example, the honor of a man in arab culture is being able to keep his
family free of sin and dishonor, while the honor of a woman is being a pure woman and always doing
the right thing to keep the family happy. (Ho) stated for a woman to bring honor to her family in
chinese culture she must follow these three rules follow one s father when young, follow one s
husband when married, follow one s son when old. While many American marriages still had a sense
of what one can bring to the table honor and stigma were not so big in the discussion from what was

Veertebrae Body
Vertebrae, while differing slightly based on their region in the spinal column, typically consist of a
body and vertebral arch. Anterior to the arch, the body (1) is the thick, broad part of the bone that
serves to support and bear weight. Between each individual body is the intervertebral disk space. The
vertebral arch is made of several parts. Pedicles (2) extend posteriorly from the body and curves to the
laminae (2). These two parts encircle the vertebral foramen with the body. Above and below the
pedicles are the superior and inferior vertebral notch, respectively, and they form the intervertebral
foramina when stacked. Zygopophyseal joints are formed by the superior and inferior articular
processes. At the junctions of the pedicle and lamina, the transverse processes (2) protrude laterally.
The spinous process (1) is the most posterior part of the vertebrae and projects from the junction of the
left and right laminae. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Coercive Interrogations And The Elicitation Of False...
COERCIVE INTERROGATIONS AND THE ELICITATION OF FALSE CONFESSIONS
The effectiveness of the coercive methods used in modern interrogation lack rigorous scientific
consideration and have been accepted without satisfactory scrutiny. Previous studies on alternative
methods of interrogation are underdeveloped and sparse, as scope exists to reform current practices to
ensure that interrogation processes (are) ecologically valid and focused on the correct processes. This
essay posits that the accusatorial Reid Model of interrogation is ineffective insofar as it employs
coercive practices that have been empirically proven to elicit false confessions. The problematic Reid
Model is juxtaposed against an alternative non coercive information gathering approach to highlight
the superiority of this method in its ability to elicit true confessions. This essay emphasises the
challenge for future research to continue to deconstruct the validity of coercive techniques to
encourage reform that promotes more effective non coercive methods.
In examining the foremost interrogation methods used, this essay will utilise the distinction drawn by
Meissner et al between information gathering and accusatorial approaches as a means to highlight
coercive practices within interrogations. The accusatorial method uses psychological manipulation in
order to establish control of a suspect and achieve confession. This method is typified by the approach
of the United States through their use of the

The Effects Of Sex Education On The Uk Essay
Sex education in the UK
The role of schools in providing information about sexual matters is much debated, with some arguing
that school based sex and relationships education (SRE) may accelerate the onset of sexual activity
and that parents should provide the information (giving them control over what is delivered and when)
(House of Commons Education Committee, 2015)
Published in the Department for Education and Employment (DFEE, 2000) biological elements of sex
education; puberty, reproduction, sexual transmitted infection must be taught to all pupils through
National Curriculum Science, which is compulsory in state maintained schools. In addition state
schools must teach the wider personal and social aspects of sex and relationships and any state funded
school that provide SRE must have due regard to the government guidance (Department of Education,
2013). However, there is no statutory curriculum so schools are encouraged to develop their own
programs of study. Personal, social, health and economic education (PSHE), which includes the
broader aspects of relationships education, however is not statutory (DFE, 2013)
There is evidence that receipt of SRE impacts positively on sexual behaviour and is associated with
positive sexual health outcomes (Kirby, Laris and Rolleri, 2007), because of this evidence in 2013, the
Office for Standards in Education, Children s Services and Skills (Ofsted) were of the view that SRE

How Does Joy Kogawa Show Sacrifice
Obasan Essay Sacrifices are a daily aspect of life throughout the world. Whether big or small all
sacrifices have significance. Giving up something of high value in exchange for another of seemingly
greater value, precedence, and care is to sacrifice, surrender, or forfeit. Obasan, by Joy Kogawa is a
prime representation of the significance and importance of sacrifice in everyday life. Throughout the
trials and tribulations of the Japanese internment, characters in the short story Obasan must make
selfless sacrifices for the sake of others. The nature of these sacrifices highlight specific character
traits throughout the novel. Obasan, by Joy Kogawa explores the sacrifices of physical health, voice,

Obasan put forth a valiant effort towards protecting both Naomi and Stephen from the harsh truth of
their mother s death, and of the extent to which the Canadian Government went in an attempt at
Japanese Canadian genocide. In order for Obasan to protect Naomi and Stephen she turned to the
sacrifice of her voice; which was silence, the language of her grief is silence, she learned it well, its
idioms, its nuances. ( ) Constant was the need for silence in Obasan s life, both for her own protection
and the childrens. With the impeccable responsibility of caring for Naomi and Stephen there also came
a great burden with the understanding that there would never be a real mother and father in their lives
again. Naomi once says to Aunt Emily, Some memories too, might better be forgotten. Didn t Obasan
once say, It is better to forget... What is past recall is past pain (45) This shows the direct example
Obasan imprinted on Naomi, in all this time I ve never seen her cry Naomi says. Obasan loved Naomi
and Stephen dearly, she did whatever she thought was right to keep them safe. Though her sacrifice of
voice was initially to protect, the lack of knowledge being conveyed to the child brought upon many
unanswered questions, Please tell me about Mother , I would say to Obasan. I was consumed by the
question. Devoured alive. But Obasan gave me no answers. I did not have, I never had, the key to the
vault of her thoughts (31). Obasan sacrificed the use of her voice to bring a blanket of protection over
the harsh but inevitable truths of Naomi and Stephen s parents, similarly she sacrificed rights in order

The UK population is ageing, with an expected 11% increase in the number of retirees by 2017,

This is reflected in the consumer data for this report, with usage of lager dropping off dramatically

to older drinkers, falls slightly behind average. As the most likely group to drink lager (67% in home

Impossibility of Certainty in Hamlet
The Impossibility of Certainty in Hamlet Doubt is that state of mind where the questioner faces no
single answer nor the lack of one, but rather a choice between a pair of alternatives. Harry Levin in
The Question of Hamlet It is appropriate that William Shakespeare s Hamlet is regarded as the Bard s
greatest dramatic enigma, for misunderstanding is the unavoidable condition of Hamlet s quest for
certainties. Not only is Hamlet bewildered by puzzling visions and by commands seemingly incapable

The King at the time of Hamlet s publication was James I, who had affirmed the Divine Right of
Kings to rule. At a time when the sovereignty of the Monarchy reigned supreme, Hamlet s questioning
of the afterlife, ( To be, or not to be...what dreams may come , III.i.64 74), lamentation at the

rejection of the superiority of Monarchs ( Our monarchs and outstretched heroes the beggars shadows

duality and deceit and the search for meaning and order are central to the essential message of Hamlet
that certainty is unattainable. This duality makes up the entire structure of Hamlet, proving that, A

San Elizario is a beautiful small town, with a loving and united community. It has a historical

streets, they are not pleasurable to watch. There is countless of trash around the streets, also including
the houses front yards. I come to propose if we put more trash cans all around town, there would be
less littering. To increase sanitation, we can set up community walks at least once a month, to clean

Diuretics are substances that slow renal reabsorption of water and thereby cause diuresis, an elevated
urine flow, which in turn reduces blood volume. Lowering blood volume usually reduces blood

  • 2. Gay Parents There is the misconception that people of the LGBT community are unfit to raise children and be parents. This, however, is not true, and there have been many studies done that prove the sexuality of parents does not harm a child s development in any way. It has also been recognized that gay parents tend to be more attentive, and are very helpful to the world when finding children homes. This goes to show that, queer people are just as qualified to be parents as anyone else. Some people in this world have this idea that gay people are bad parents. They say that children suffer more in the care of LGBT parents; that children end up being less intelligent than their peers, and that they have a higher chance of being bullied. Some people also believe that gay parents push their lifestyle on to their children, and that it could potentially turn them gay. Both of these beliefs are wrong, and only show how close minded society can be at times. There has been no correlation found that says the sexual orientation of parents affects children negatively. As for children who are being bullied for having LGBT+ parents, it only goes to show that people need to teach their children to respect the differences of others. Also, bullying in general is an issue that needs to be addressed, and gay parents should not be at fault for any teasing that may occur. These concerns that people have on queer parenting, aren t actually very concerning things. It s been proven time and time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The statutory rape codes have been used at various times to reinforce fathers interests in their daughters marriageability, to protect young women s chastity from seductive men, to control promiscuous or disease laden adolescent females, to enhance child support collection efforts, to reduce teenage pregnancy, and to identify and punish sexual exploitation of teenagers. ... Pursuant to changes in the SRVPP Guidelines, California s statutory rape enforcement policy grew to encompass all forms of non pregnancy inducing sex between adults and minors (including sexual behavior short of intercourse, acts between adult women and teen boys, and acts between same sex partners), as well as crimes involving multiple victims, pimping/prostitution, the provision of alcohol or drugs to minors, acquaintance rape, and rape of disabled minors. ... The Pros And Cons Of The Prohibition Era The Prohibition Era, 1920 1933, was a time of turmoil and conflict as the ban of alcohol brought with it the growth of organized crime in United States. The nationwide prohibition of alcohol was introduced to solve social issues and most significantly, lower crime and corruption. Initially established due to nationwide Temperance movements stating that banning alcohol would decrease crime, however the banning of alcohol led to increased organized crime. Organized crime in America grew during Prohibition due to the mafia, gangs and the mob utilizing the public demand for alcohol for their own economic gain, bootlegging alcohol, using extortion and violence, all in is larger quantities than was present before the 18th Amendment was passed. • 9. Why Canada Is A Social Policy Perspective 1. Canada is known to be one of the most developed countries in the world, with a wide range of social programs that contribute to a high standard of living. As with many mixed economies, Canada could be described as a welfare society , meaning that the government plays a major role in ensuring the well being of its citizens. This comes in the form of free healthcare, access to education, employment insurance and various other social programs. Despite Canada s record of being a fiscally balanced and responsible nation, there are still several pressing issues facing the economy and country as a whole, specifically from a social policy perspective. Four key issues include: I. Senior Citizen Income Security It is estimated that by 2030, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Service Canada, 2013) As a senior policy analyst, I would purpose that the Government of Canada take steps to educate citizens about the importance of individual household fiscal responsibility, and having a personal retirement fund. I would also suggest creating an incentive that gives major employers a tax break, in exchange for providing their employees with private sector retirement and pension plans. II. Low income Assistance The Canadian Welfare system provides financial support to citizens in need and attempts to ensure that individuals and families are not at risk of living in poverty. While this policy works in theory, there are many flaws to the system, which hurt the average citizen, as opposed to protecting them. For example, it is nearly impossible for someone to apply for low income assistance, if they have any type of savings in the bank. In essence, this means for an individual in need, they must first drain their entire savings, retirement and education accounts, before becoming eligible for provincial benefits. This makes it incredibly difficult for someone to escape the welfare system and cycle of poverty, essentially forcing them to become destitute. (Mosebraalen, 2010) The guidelines surrounding a Welfare recipient s right to work also complicate the process. Working part time or even temporary jobs will disqualify an individual from receiving benefits. Often times, this will discourage people from even trying to find employment. As ... A major director that emerged during this time was Spike Lee. According to Paula Massood s book titled, Black City Cinema, African American Urban Experiences in Film, ...Lee not only transformed African American city spaces and black filmmaking practices, he also changed American filmmaking as a whole. • 12. Analysis Of Tom Wacaster s Book Galatians In his book, Studies in Galatians, Tom Wacaster addresses a very vital need: to provide common level, sound commentaries of the Bible. Books such as this are very beneficial, as they assist an average member of the church to expand their understanding of God s word. This, as Wacaster stated himself, was his goal in writing this very commentary. If [Studies in Galatians] serves to give just one precious soul a better understanding of this wonderful letter...then it will have been worth the time spent in preparing and publishing (3, 4). Wacaster has surely accomplished this worthy objective and more with this valuable book. Wacaster s book, which is (as the title suggests) centered on Paul s epistle to the Galatians, is very obviously intended to the common level, average audience. Wacaster does not delve into complex conversations of textual variants, manuscript discrepancies, and disputations of authorship, nor does he use vocabulary or phraseology that is above the understanding of most individuals. Rather, Wacaster is simple, straightforward, and effective in communicating his points on the wonderful book of Galatians. With many commentaries that are written at a graduate and scholarly level, a more basic approach is much appreciated and needed. Wacaster took a very direct approach in organizing Studies in Galatians. It is setup as a verse by verse commentary, with each verse being given in the American Standard Version and then followed by the author s discussion of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mothers, fathers and children burned and smothered in what they thought would be safe. There were ones that were wounded that needed to be looked after as well and these were the lucky ones. But, with social networking becoming all the rage, online dating has become a huge phenomenon that has caught trend nationwide. In todays society it is considered the norm for human connections to be initiated by internet connections. We live in a century of emails, text messages, and Facebook friending that has become established as a real relationship bond. While connecting with friends, family, coworkers, etc. can be easily completed by the use of the internet, while it is convenient and sometimes the best way, establishing a romantic connection with someone through the internet seems a bit interpersonal and dangerous. Judging by the massive amounts of dating apps and websites available, we are desperate to find the one , and fast. Dating online takes the intimacy out of getting to know someone and its just not natural. Many people get lost in the idea that on this dating app could be their special one that they will spend the rest of their life with but they forget that at the same time it presents a grave danger to women and men alike. It is often said of those who stand outside of religious conviction that faith seems to come in handy to people only when it is valuable to get them out of a predicament, of which they have likely placed themselves through insensitive behavior and decisions. In such a desperate attempt to appeal to faith, one only finds emptiness and a fate that leaves them hopeless or even dead. Nor Bailey or his wife says anything, so it can be suggested that they are used to such comments and may hold the same views as well. The grandmother does not see a reason to be empathetic; the boy waves and she does return the gesture. Instead she romanticizes the boy s plight as a missed opportunity, suggesting that If [she] could paint, [she d] paint that picture (12). Not only is the grandmother intolerant, but she is also quite vain, with an entire paragraph illustrating her choice of clothing for the road trip. Most people going on a road trip dress casually and comfortably, which is evidenced by the mentioning of the children s mother, who still had on slacks and still had her hair tied up in a green kerchief (11). • 16. `` Handbook Of Christian Apologetics `` Essay Christian teachings have been challenged by unbelievers since the beginning of history. Today, because the new discoveries of science, the existence of God has been doubted even more, and as a consequence, society has become more selfish, self centered and self existent. Questions such as, Does God actually exist? Is there any evidence of his existence? Is it Christianity the only true religion? have been asked by believers and unbelievers through the past centuries. Two philosophers from Boston College, Peter Kreeft, and Ronald K. Tacelli, in their book Handbook of Christian Apologetics answer the most common questions about faith and reason, God s existence, Christ and other Christian doctrines. In Chapter 1, Kreeft and Tacelli talk about the importance and need for Apologetics. It importance comes, first, because with Apologetics we are able to give reasons for faith as an act of obedience to God. And secondly, because Apologetics is necessary to convince unbelievers and build up believers. Furthermore, apologetics is extremely needed today because we are living in a civil, cultural, intellectual crisis, and especially a spiritual one. Thus, we need truth and trough Apologetics, with faith and reason, we can find it. In Chapter 2, faith and reason are described as allies. They are interrelated. As faith is a subpart of reason, reason is a subclass of faith. Both of them are necessary for Apologetics, without faith and reason Apologetics is impossible. Faith and reason ... • 18. Luther And The Christian Nobility Of The German Nation In Martin Luther s To the Christian Nobility of the German Nation, Luther writes to the German princes on the three walls that the Catholic Church uses to defend themselves from reform. Luther attacks all three walls for the power it gives to the Pope. His attack of the second wall, that only the pope can interpret scripture, is a tenant of Luther s theology. The Lutheran belief of Sola Scriptura holds that only Scripture should be the source of all Christian practices, rather than doctrines declared by popes or other teaching authorities. While the second wall reflects a legitimate belief of Luther s theology, Luther writes on this topic to the german nobility because it is politically beneficial towards himself, his movement, and the princedoms of Germany, not necessarily for religious reasons. These political motives are illustrated when studying the relationship between the church, the princes, and the Holy Roman Empire in Germany at the time, Luther s response to the Peasant Revolt of 1525, and the scholars of The Church at the time. 1 Luther attacks the second wall, that the pope alone can interpret scriptures, by citing scriptures himself. He says that there is no basis for the pope s power in the Bible, rather, only incidences of the people s power. The equality of all Christian believers was first stated in the first wall when arguing that temporal powers should be able to punish those clergy who do wrong, but Luther adds more to this in the second wall when quoting ... Radio Frequency Identification ( Rfid ) Essay Abstract Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a technology for automated identification of people and products, and is getting more involved in our daily lives. RFID consists of a RFID tag or transponder, a RFID reader or transceiver, and the data processing system has been evolving with time. RFID technology is also helpful when used with money, but there is a main limitation while using RFID technology. It is privacy and security. That is why, Electrical and computer engineers work with this limitation, so RFID would be the future for all engineers. Index Terms RFID Electromagnetics, term paper I.INTRODUCTION For many people, using a card to access a building or a door, a key to start a car or validating an underground ticket have become a routine without realizing that they are making use of a technology that captures data because of the magnetic field. The technology is known as Radio Frequency IDentification or RFID. The debate about the use of capital punishment has been shaped by factors such as class, gender, age but most importantly race. During the colonial era, Britain was the biggest influence on America when it came to utilizing the death penalty. The death penalty was used for minor offenses such as stealing, killing animals, and trading with Indians. As the late 1700s approached, a movement towards abolishing the death penalty began. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Zimring began to research executions by different regions in the United States and noted the similarities between historical lynching trends and current patterns in the use of Capital punishment (Gabbidon and Greene). Throughout the research Zimring conducted, he noticed that there was a strong correlation between legal lynchings and death penalty executions after lynching were made illegal. The data indicated through 1889 to 1918 that 88 percent of lynchings were carried out in the South. In comparison, through 1977 to 2000 81 percent of executions were held in the South (Gabbidon and Greene). In conclusion, Zimring believed that the death penalty is a racialized system that has replaced lynchings. This created a renaissance of capital punishment between the 1920s and 1940s. During the 1930s, there was an average of 167 executions each year. These annual numbers were similar to the number of lynchings recorded in the 1890s (Vandiver, Giacopassi, Lofquist, 2006). After this era, the support for death penalty began to slowly decline, as 42% of people showed support for the death penalty in the 1950s (Bohm,1999). Following the decline in the support of the death penalty, a moratorium on executions began in 1972 during the case Furman v. Georgia. COERCIVE INTERROGATIONS AND THE ELICITATION OF FALSE CONFESSIONS The effectiveness of the coercive methods used in modern interrogation lack rigorous scientific consideration and have been accepted without satisfactory scrutiny. Previous studies on alternative methods of interrogation are underdeveloped and sparse, as scope exists to reform current practices to ensure that interrogation processes (are) ecologically valid and focused on the correct processes. This essay posits that the accusatorial Reid Model of interrogation is ineffective insofar as it employs coercive practices that have been empirically proven to elicit false confessions. The problematic Reid Model is juxtaposed against an alternative non coercive information gathering approach to highlight the superiority of this method in its ability to elicit true confessions. This essay emphasises the challenge for future research to continue to deconstruct the validity of coercive techniques to encourage reform that promotes more effective non coercive methods.
