Athenian Imperialism and her Changing Relations with Allies
Nature of Athenian Imperialism
Changing Relations with Allies
Lars Hoogvliet
After the conclusion of the Persian Wars (492 479BC) with Athens being the true victor, and before
the Peloponnesian War, a period of prosperity covered Athens, and they needed to devise new ways to
protect themselves and expand their wealth, and how this would affect their relations with allies.
The Athenians and their Allies was an organisation led by the Athenians in the 5th century, but is now
referred to as the Delian League or the Confederacy of Athens.
The official aim of the League was, according to Thucydides, to compensate themselves for their
losses [of the Persian War] by ravaging the territory of the King of Persia. The long term aim of ...

The besiegement of Thasos revealed Athens true motivations behind the League and the future plans
for her allies. According to _Ancient Greece Using Sources_ Thasos was one of the largest and richest
members of the Delian League, and a conflict broke out between Athens and Thasos over the gold
mining on the island. Thasos then attempted to withdraw from the League, as the Persians were no
longer a threat in the Aegean, and Athens was demanding too much for too little in return.
The League, under the control of Cimon, then besieged Thasos for two years, and destroyed their city
walls, confiscated their navy, closed their mint and annexed their possessions on the mainland.
According to Thucydides, the period from the revolt of Thasos to the ostracism of Cimon (465
461BC) was the time when the main friction between Sparta and Athens occurred and eventually led
to their war.
If Sparta really was willing to attack Athens, an apparent ally, then their relationship must have been
weak and forced. Was Sparta jealous of Athens wealth and power? Did they feel threatened by the
Athenians sudden harshness against their own allies ? Or it could have been a combination of reasons.
Thucydides didn t help either when his pro Athenian feelings got the better of him, this was a time
when Sparta was particularly friendly to Athens because of the courage displayed by Athens against
the Persians.
Another case of conflict between

A Little Bit Of The Old Times
A little bit of the Old Times
That s an interesting question, since I m old, and I ve lived in a world not just without Internet, but
without personal computers!
Well, I´ve lived in a world without computers, period! J
My first contact with computers was around 1972. I worked in the accounting department of a large
chain of stores in Brazil, and we in the Pelotas (a city near the State´s capital) branch received some
reports inventory position, sales summaries, etc. from the headquarters in Rio de Janeiro. These
reports were printed by a computer, ooooh! But I had never seen a computer neither none of my
colleagues, I think.
Then in 1975 a new company was established in Pelotas (check the map below, or at Google ... Show

After our programs were ready (compiled, link edited, tested, catalogued in an executable library in
disk) we send to the Computer Operator a flowchart describing how to execute it in production how
many and which magnetic tapes should be read and/or recorded (there was a tape library, they were
identified by numbers), what disc unitis should be used (yes, the hard discs were removable!) if it

The Computer Operator was like a priest of the sacred ritual of executing batch processing ! And the
sacred precincts of the computer was forbidden ground to the ordinary mortal! : )
And that way we processed the City Hall Real Estate Taxes Control System, the City Hall Payroll, and
others. My favorite was the Banking System, for the Rio Grande do Sul State´s Bank. There was no
ATMs, no bar codes in the checks, no computer workstations for the tellers... How things did work?
Every morning, we (we the Processing Data Center, the sacred priests of the mysteries of the
Computer J ) sent to each bank agency a set of books, listing the balance of each and every account
belonging to the agency. Each time a customer reached a teller to exchange a

Why The United States Won The War Of 1812 Dbq
On July 18, 1812, the United States declared war on Great Britain which started the War of 1812. The
war began because of a military conflict between the United States and Great Britain. The war lasted
from 1812 to 1814. The War started when the colony of Great Britain and Canada, got invaded by the
Americans. The war was fought in many different places such as, Upper Canada, Lower Canada, on
the Great Lakes, the Atlantic, and in the U.S. The war was a big dispute between the U.S. and the
British Empire. The British limited the American trade system because they were afraid it would be
damaging to their war with France. They also wanted to have an Indian state in parts of the Midwest.
They wanted to do this to maintain their influence in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the issues of rights were not determined in the peace treaty, the war was considered a failure.
However, the Americans had some impressive victories at sea, which gave them the potential of
becoming an American power (i.e., footnote 1). The war was definitely a failure for the War Hawks,
who desired to invade Canada. The war proved that this was not doable for their military to do. In
conclusion, the war was a war of honor and respect and not to be judged (i.e., footnote 1).
The War of 1812 had a big effect on America and how the world viewed the developing nation.
America was now viewed as a nation that was strong and capable to endure two wars with the British
(i.e., footnote 2). America as a nation had also changed. There was an extended faith in America and
their abilities. Without a doubt, the War of 1812 played a huge role in the development of America

The Gospel Of Matthew, The Pardoner s Tale, And Julian Of...
To the extent of this class so far, we have had the opportunity to read the Gospel of Matthew, The
Pardoner s Tale, and Julian of Norwich. In these publications, the primary focus of each is to reach the
Kingdom of God. In the Gospel of Matthew, written between A.D. 60 65, Jesus shares directions for
living in his kingdom, especially during the Sermon on the Mount. By using Jesus words, we become
capable of formulating what the Kingdom of God is and determining whether or not others uphold or
undermine the ideal of the Kingdom. In The Pardoner s Tale, the Pardoner undermines the ideal of the
Kingdom of God and takes townspeople s money out of greed. In Julian of Norwich, written A.D.

My NIV Life Application Study Bible, shares beneficial information pertaining to the Sermon on the
Mount pg. 1651:
Jesus gave the Sermon on the Mount on a hillside near Capernaum. This sermon probably covered
several days of preaching. In it, Jesus proclaimed his attitude toward the law. Position, authority, and
money are not important in his kingdom what matters is faithful obedience from the heart. The
Sermon on the Mount challenged the proud and legalistic religious leaders of the day. It called them
back to the messages of the Old Testament prophets who, like Jesus, taught that heartfelt obedience is
more important than legalistic observance. With Jesus announcement that the kingdom was near.
People were naturally asking, How do I qualify to be in God s kingdom? Jesus said that God s
kingdom is organized differently from worldly kingdoms. In the kingdom of heaven, wealth and
power and authority are unimportant. Kingdom people seek different blessings and benefits, and they
have different attitudes.
Jesus was talking about the way things should be instead of how they were. He disclosed some of the
principles and requirements of approaching the Kingdom of God. The idea of an upside down
kingdom wasn t suitable for all because those who had many worldly possessions had much to lose.
For this reason, Jesus was accepted by many, and rejected by others. Jesus only glimpse of what their
eternities could appear to be.

Huck Finn And Pap s Relationship
In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain the Relationship Huck Finn and His Father
and his slave friend Jim are the exact opposite of what you would expect. Huck s righteousness is
given to him by Miss Watson, he also receives some mischief from his friend Tom. When he meets
Jim, he is taught that being good doesn t mean being there for someone, but instead that he it means
taking care of someone and having sympathy for all things that they have struggled. Pap tries to make
Huck more manly by abusing him to make him tougher, but Jim is a more successful father figure
because he influences Huck to be respectful and caring. Pap s way of making Huck manly is not

In Senator Barbara Boxer s letter to Director Frieden, she addresses the issue on the rare polio like
disease that has affected at least twenty children in California over the last eighteen months. This polio

that the CDC is not taking action on researching what is causing this horrible disease and she wants to

there is a link with the virus Enterovirus D68 but the evidence is circumstantial. More research needs
to be done to determine if the new strains of the old virus is causing polio like paralysis in children

What Is A Social Surrogacy Hypothesis
Positive effects[edit]
Social Surrogacy Hypothesis[edit]
Current research is discovering that individuals suffering from social isolation can employ television
to create what is termed a parasocial or faux relationship with characters from their favorite television
shows and movies as a way of deflecting feelings of loneliness and social deprivation.[1] Just as an
individual would spend time with a real person sharing opinions and thoughts, pseudo relationships
are formed with TV characters by becoming personally invested in their lives as if they were a close
friend [1] so that the individual can satiate the human desire to form meaningful relationships and
establish themselves in society. Jaye Derrick and Shira Gabriel of the University of Buffalo, and Kurt
Hugenberg of Miami University found that when an individual is not able to participate in interactions
with real people, they are less likely to indicate feelings of loneliness when watching their favorite TV
show.[2]
They refer to this finding as the Social Surrogacy Hypothesis.[1] Furthermore, when an event such as
a fight or argument disrupts a personal relationship, watching a favorite TV show was ... Show more

Role Of Atheism In Australia
Synopsis:
The atheism is accounted for its historic existence of fundamentalist religion in Australia. Australians
perceived to be peculiar in responding to religion which neither gives comfort to believer nor to
atheist, as both are appalled by anything but full commitment. Peter Jensen, future Anglican
Archbishop of Sydney, and Bruce Wilson claimed at the same time that Australia was a pagan nation
and not a religious by its actions or attitudes. Australians objection to Christianity is that it failed to
make people morally any better than those with unbelief. While Peter Jensen emphasized that morality
is not Christianity. Tom Frame explained that the abandonment of religion is inevitable as the growing
body of scientific evidence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though, their writings are not fairly described as anti theistic yet both would personally welcome the
demise of religion. Frame has tried to highlight some elements of the arguments against God s
existence offered by Adams and Lane with expectations to identify specifically Australian forms of
unbelief. Frame writes that when atheism was mentioned in Australia often identified with Adams and
considered him as apostle of atheism. He was motivated to write opinion pieces in favor of atheism
because humanity s denial of death was the source of its ingenious ability to muffle morality with
euphemism . Adams thinks that Australia has lost fervor for faith so that ticking the box of religion in
the census form doesn t denote the depth of religious

Julius Caesar Takeover Essay
Before the definite takeover of Britain, Julius Caesar had come over to attempt to make the land part
of the famous Roman Empire in AD 55. It wasn t very long until Caesar fled back to Gaul (France)
because the British Celts had been tough to beat. Only a year later he came back stronger and with an
even bigger army. Caesar had made his mark, but not wanting a long war, he returned to Rome and
never came back. Although he could not invade Britain, about a hundred years later in the year AD 43,
Emperor Claudius had invaded Britain on instruction to do so by Aulus Plautius, who was to be the
first consular governor in command of Great Britain. This second attempt to take over Britain would
last about four hundred years, to around the 5th century AD.
These invasions were about more than obtaining land for the Roman Empire, but there were also
minerals and agricultural fields to gain more income. Since money and wealth were a big motivation
for them, Roman militaries often were eager to defeat new lands in order to attain the wealth they
desired and pay for their armies. During the early years of this conquest, it was the initial and main
fight for the takeover of most of Britain. The fast growing Romanization of these lands was a result of
poor defensive coordination among military heads of Great Britain. ... Show more content on

Statement Of Purpose In Microbiology
From the very beginning of my student life, I loved biology. When I was in my lower secondary
school, I still remember that day when my science teacher told me the story of microbes and the day
after showed and taught applications of microscope, my interest in microbiology started to take its
shape. I became even intensely interested when he told us that bacteria and virus are invisible to your
naked eyes, however they can cause you disease and some might kill you. After the completion of my
high school as a science major student, my parents wanted me to join medical school and become a
doctor. But I had already encrypted curiosity of microbiology inside my mind. So, I began my journey
into the world of microbiology. I secretly joined microbiology without telling my parents and told
them that I am not shortlisted in MBBS exam.
My interest in microbiology deepened during my bachelors degree while studing Medical
Microbiology at Trichandra college. While in bachelors degree, I learned how to manage time in
stressful conditions besides laying a firm base on the basics of Microbiology and lab practices. I

Man s Search For Meaning By Viktor E. Frankl
In the book Man s Search for Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl, he uses his past experiences from different
concentration camps to describe what he learned was the true meaning of life. Throughout the book he
describes in details that he had no hope for life as he felt pain, humility, and human cruelty during his
time as a prisoner in multiple concentration camps. Frankl, believed that he had a chance to survive by
using inner strengths. His great sense of humor helped him get though the many difficult situations
that he had encountered. He supposed that what doesn t kill you makes your stronger. Frankl separated
himself from the rest of the prisoners. His determination to survive, and his vision to see beyond the
cruelty differed him from the others. His ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His fate carried him along away. No one knew it if really was a rest camp, or if it was a gas chamber.
He told his friend Otto, If I don t get back home to my wife, and if you should see her again, then tell
her that I talked of her daily, hourly. His passion to see his wife again, drove him into wanting to go to
the rest camp. When he arrived, so called rest camp turned out to really be a rest camp. Fate played a
major role in Frankl survival. Frankl accepted his fate, and all the sufferings that he has been through,
which gave him hope. During his time in the concentration camps he learned if a person didn t have
hope that, that person was gone forever. He stated that the prisoners had saw themselves completely
depended on the moods of the guards. How they acted was based on how the guards acted. Frankl
tried motivating, and uplifting other prisoners hope. During his time in the concentration camps he
learned that guards were people who had to take orders, and give orders. They were just as equal as
them, prisoners to the warrant. If they didn t do their jobs they were killed and treated no better than

The Importance Of Critical Thinking
Over time society and technology change, and so do our skills in almost about everything, for instance
our survival skills. Learning to think critically and creatively, is the scientist s uttermost skill to have.
Scientists are able to correctly repeat data, identify problems, record observations, and plan
experiments. Critical thinking is when you confront or approach a problem by making observations,
ask questions, and use logic. Scientists use critical thinking, in problems that occur in their
experiments. As a result of using critical thinking, in the problems we face everyday, it will help solve
your problems. Scientific methods are also used to solve problems, but it seems more complicated and
complex. There generally used to help organize the persons thinking about questions. Using this
method can help you find and analyze possible answers. Important to know or realize is the steps from
the sets of procedures that scientists use, is the scientific method and these steps can vary. The sets of
procedures don t always depend on the question to be answered; these questions more than often,
begin with observations. Every time you use a scientific method, you don t have to use the exact same
steps. Scientists that do controlled experiments are able to test a hypothesis s. Variables are needed in
these experiments, because of the result of the changing and observed variables. In a controlled
experiment, variables that don t affect the outcome of the experiment are not observed; only the ones
that affect the outcome. Changing conditions in the experiment around the same time can affect and
can effect the scientist to form a reliable conclusion. Ideas that scientists have been tested by
experiments. In an experiment that doesn t give the results you wanted, it is not considered as a
failure. For a hypothesis to be revised and to have planned tests of a different variable, observations of
events in the natural world are needed. Due to extraordinary and surprising experimental results,
scientists are led in new unknown directions. For scientists not to create a false conclusion, they
always keep in mind the question that it is needed to be tested. After they have planned and analyzed
their experiments, they

The average life expectancy, for a soldier, in the deadly trenches that fortified the outlines of no man s
land, during World War One, was only 6 weeks. (War History) Although war can be seen as glorious,
people often forget about these tragedies. In the poems Dulce Et Decorum Est, by Wilfred Owen, and
Buttons, by Carl Sandburg, the catastrophes of war are brought to the eyes of public, as the authors
make an attempt to save the souls of thousands of young boys everywhere by bringing to light the
misunderstanding that society has about war. In the year 1915 Wilfred Owen experienced war first

Sandburg does this as he describes the horrendous deaths of soldiers Ten thousand men and boys twist

people that the death of a soldier during war is never as beautiful as society has been tricked into
thinking it is. Carl then acknowledges how oblivious society is to this Who would guess what it cost to
move two buttons one inch . Sandburg uses this to express how society underestimates how painful
the death of a soldier is. Just as Owen experienced war, Sandburg experienced a different war in a
similar way. As Sandburg fought in the Spanish American war and journalized World War One, he
learned that war is not what people said it would be. He understands the complete and utter horror of
the murder of a soldier. By mocking society s opinion of a soldier s life Sandburg hopes to disregard
society s misinterpretations of war and explain how it is inhumane for a person to go through a

Without sound, the gangster films could not come to life. It was the 1930s that the events of the
prohibition era such as bootlegging and the St. Valentines Day Massacre of 1929, and the existence of
real life gangsters and the rise of contemporary organized crime helped to encourage this genre. The
talkies are accounted for the rise of crime films. The first talkie 100% all talking picture and, of

Marketing Audit Process
THE MARKETING AUDIT PROCESS
How is a marketing Audit conducted?
We recommend that the following simple three step procedure be followed when carrying out a
marketing audit.
1. Setting the Objectives and Scope
The first step calls for a meeting between the student (the auditor) and a company officer(s) to explore
the nature of the marketing operations and the potential value of the marketing audit. If the company
officer is convinced of the potential benefits of the marketing audit, he and the auditor (student) will
then work an agreement on the objectives, coverage, depth, data sources, report format, and the time
period of the audit. A questionnaire covering the entire scope will then be developed ready for the next
stage

Marketing Environment Audit
By marketing environment, we mean both the macro environment surrounding the industry and the
task environment in which the organisation intimately operates. The macro environment consists of
the large scale forces and factors influencing the company s future over which the company has very
little control. These forces are normally divided into economic demographic factors, technological
factors, political legal factors, and social cultural factors. The marketing auditor s task is to assess the
key trends and their implications for company marketing action.
However, if the company has a good long range forecasting department, then there is less need of need
for a macro environment audit.
The marketing auditor may play a more critical role in auditing the company s task environment. The
task environment consists of markets, customers, competitors, distributors and dealers, suppliers, and
marketing facilitators. The marketing auditor can make a contribution by going out into the field and
interviewing various parties to assess their current thinking and attitudes and bringing them to the
attention of management.
Marketing Strategy Audit
The marketing auditor then proceeds to consider whether the company s marketing strategy is well
postured in the light of the opportunities and problems facing the company. The starting point for the
marketing strategy audit is the corporate goals and objectives

The loggerhead sea turtle, Caretta caretta, is a threatened species with a highly migratory behavior and
shifting habitat requirements depending on maturity (NMFS and USFWS 1998). The loggerhead
nesting grounds are typically in warm temperate regions (NMFS and USFWS 1998).
In the original listing from USFWS (1978), the loggerhead sea turtle was listed as threatened
throughout all of its range. The document goes on to state that one of the main threats to the
loggerhead sea turtle was that it was being harvested for the shell or as food; the eggs were considered
a desired food item and protein source. Regulations were put in place to protect the loggerhead sea
turtle such as prohibition of foreign commerce, importation, and exportation ... Show more content on

Figure 1. Loggerhead Observed Bycatch. This graph shows data collected on bycatch rates in
SEAMAP analysis data set in the Stock Assessment of Loggerhead Sea Turtles. From NMFS 2001.
Nesting habitat degradation is an anthropogenic threat to the loggerhead sea turtles. These threats
include coastal development, erosion control barriers or beach armoring, artificial lighting, pollution,
removal of native vegetation, and vehicle and pedestrian traffic (NMFS and USFWS 2007). Some
solutions include protecting and managing turtles on nesting beaches, monitor coastal construction,
implement lighting regulations, screen artificial lighting with vegetation, and impose regulations on
beach armoring (NMFS and USFWS 1998). Predation is an important threat to consider in nesting
areas for the loggerhead. Many places have depredation to protect the eggs and hatchlings against
predators such as feral dogs, raccoons, and foxes (NMFS and USFWS 2007).
The future outlook for the loggerhead turtle has been studied using two analyses, one looked at counts
of nesting females and the other analysis was a stage based population model done to look at the
anthropogenic mortalities with respect to the vital rates of the species (Conant et al. 2009). Using
these analyses, it was determined that for the North Atlantic Ocean DPS there was a greater likelihood
of quasi extinction for the Northern Gulf of Mexico

Groups in Health Service Information Systems Essay
Groups in Health Service Information Systems National Health Service (NHS) in United Kingdom is
the third largest organisation in the world after the Chinese Army and the Indian Railway (Hazel, B.,

to over 57 million people. Staff members came from various nationalities, ethnicities, cultures and etc;

Group affects its members psychology (Robbins, 2002; Wu and Hu, 2007). Hence, group member and
an individual staff member show different characteristics. Especially, in larger hierarchical
organisation like NHS, informal groups could be seen in every strata and every specialised area than a
horizontal organisation. In flat organisations, i.e. factories in manufacturing sector, informal groups
could easily transform into formal groups i.e. trade unions and eventually lost its informalities. This is
simply because existence of large number of staff members with similar characteristics. Hence, formal
arrangements and control is required to manage. NHS is a geographically distributed,
departmentalised and hierarchical, Therefore, number of staff members belongs to an informal group

agendas of people who are willing to join a group; prior knowledge, skills, threat, fear, attitudes,

Intervertebral Disc Degeneration
CBD May Prevent Intervertebral Disc Degeneration
Intervertebral disc degeneration is a common disorder that is characterized by the progressive
degeneration of the intervertebral discs, resulting in deformity and dysfunction. The structural and
functional integrity of the spine in essence is compromised due to several issues, including
inflammation, diminished oxygen, and deficiency of essential water and sugars, which are key
components of intervertebral discs balance and proper function. In the United States, roughly 5% of
the population experience chronic lower back pain problems, much of which is associated with the
disorder. Intervertebral disc degeneration develops with age, and tends to be more prevalent in people
who have problems with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a 2014 controlled animal study, Protective Effects of Cannabidiol on Lesion Induced Intervertebral
Disc Degeneration, published in PLos suggests that the non psychoactive cannabinoid cannabidiol
(CBD) may be valuable in reducing physical damage resulting from intervertebral disc degeneration.
In the study, 19 rats with induced replica of human IVD degeneration (damage to their spinal discs)
were divided into three groups, and one administered 30nmol of CBD, one 60nmol, and another
120nmol of CBD; An examination of the discs using MRI and microscopic analysis revealed that the
lower dosages of treatment had very little effect, while the group given 120nmol of CBD experienced
a reduction in damage after the first 2 day and improvements persisted up to day 15 of the study.
Sourcehttp://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4269422/ Despite the small sample size, the
researchers were optimistic about the results and felt that future research could uncover even more
about the mechanisms involved in CBD effects. They noted, Considering that cannabidiol presents an
extremely safe profile and is currently being used clinically, these results suggest that this compound
could be useful in the treatment of intervertebral disc degeneration... Although further research is
necessary to clarify the mechanisms involved in CBD effects, the present results suggest the
possibility of its use for disc degeneration treatment.

Gastrointestinal Illness Caused By The Species
Cryptosporidiosis is one of the most known gastrointestinal illness caused by the genus of
Cryptosporidium. Cryptosporidiosis, according to the CDC, has become one of the most common
causes of waterborne diseases in the United States, with outbreaks increasing annually. An outbreak of
Cryptosporidiosis, in Milwaukee in 1993 affected around 400,000 people and was traced to the city s
water supply (NFID, 2008). The most common symptom associated with this disease is Diarrhea.
Pathophysiology
Cryptosporidiosis is an infection caused by the spore forming protozoan known as Cryptosporidia
(Jacqueline, 2015). Protozoa are a group of parasites that infect the human intestine. Parasites are
organisms that live within another organism and obtain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most known cause or reason that you can get Cryptosporidiosis is by digesting contaminated
water, but also it can be spread by humans through sexual behavior (Jacqueline, 2015). A person can
get infected with Cryptosporidiosis by digesting contaminated water, this can occur through drinking
or swimming in infected water, swallowing or putting something infected in the mouth (such as
fingers), being exposed to human feces through sexual contact , or by eating uncooked food (such as
salad greens) that has been contaminated (John et al. 2012). Most people who experience significant
symptoms from Cryptosporidiosis have an altered immune system, and suffer from diseases such as
AIDS and cancer (Jaqueline, 2015). Due to a protective outer shell, Cryptosporidium can live outside
of the body for several months and are very resistant to the chlorine based disinfectants that are often
used to treat water sources (GEEH, 2013).
Clinical Manifestation Cysts of Cryptosporidia mature in the intestine and bile ducts within three to
five days of ingestion. Many individuals are infected without any illness, but the major symptom of
Cryptosporidiosis is diarrhea, which is often watery. Also some other symptoms you may have with
this disease are Dehydration, low grade fever, nausea, and abdominal cramps (Jaqueline, 2015). The

Pasadena Museum Of California Art Analysis
The Pasadena Museum of California Art has a beautiful exterior with an open air staircase with moody
light play from an oculus above its entrance to a three story facility. The walls all around it are covered
in complicated patterns and symbols. The building definitely stands out against all the other buildings
in the area. The inside is very roomy, and filled with lots of artwork all around.
The first piece of artwork is by William S. Rice. This piece is a painting, with many, many different
colors. There is a parrot sitting atop a branch, and it seems to be looking down at a butterfly resting on
a branch below it. I picked this piece because of the many vibrant colors it had. There was a parrot on
a branch, and it seemed to be staring down ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It portrayed two different animals, in what seemed like a friendly situation, basically hanging out with
each other. The artist s view of the world with these piece of art work might be that he wants world
peace and everything to get along with each other just how the parrot and the butterfly are. The artist
wants world peace basically, but us Christians should know that that is impossible, only in heaven. So
this painting may just show what the artist wishes the world could be like.
The second piece of art is called: Wounds of Existence. This seems to be a painting on a unusually
rugged surface made out of un sanded wooden planks. It depicts what seems like, a man and a women
with their faces close to each other with sad faces. The subject matter of this piece seem to be mellow
and sad. I picked this piece because it jumped out at me at how absolutely unique it was, being painted
on wooden planks.
All the colors in this piece are more dark, and no color really stand out above the rest. Even though the
surface of this painting was very un even, I could still see the shapes, colors and patterns. For the
canvas of the painting, it doesn t look like something you d paint on. It appears that he just nailed a
bunch of wooden planks on top of each other and next to each other and painted on them. Parts of this
piece were probably painted with a brush, and maybe spray paint as

Preventive Patrol Essay
I believe preventive patrol is effective because of the deterrence theory. People who plan to commit a
crime do not want to get caught. I also think that some people will probably get nervous if a police
officer keeps passing by when they plan to commit a crime and might wonder if the police noticed
them. However, cop cars pass by in seconds, so I am glad other methods of patrol are being used like
foot patrol, bicycle patrol, and mounted patrol. Even if preventive patrols weren t effective, they still
make a presence in the community, which is important. Making a presence could familiarize a
neighborhood with a police officer. For example, the first day my son learned how to unlock the front
door, he did so when i was showering. He went outside

The Qin Dynasty And The Great Wall Of China
Qin dynasty is a very important dynasty in the China history. It evolved from the state of Qin of the
Warring States Period. Qin Dynasty was also known as the first dynasty to unify China. Emperor Qin
managed to defeat six kingdoms one by one and eliminated all his enemies. However, in 221BC
Emperor Qin decided to build a large building known as the Great Wall of China. He did that because
he wanted to defend the Qin Dynasty that period from northern barbarians invading into the dynasty
and disrupting the peace. He also thought he would be able to recruit labors to work on the Great Wall.
Furthermore, Emperor Shi Huang was confident about having enough resources to build this Great
Wall and he knew the ways to build it. These are the reasons persuaded Emperor Shi Huang to
proceed with the construction of the Great Wall. The idea of building the wall intrigued Emperor Shi
Huang after realizing the threat from northern barbarians invading into the dynasty and disrupting the
peace. It started in 221BC, when Emperor Shih Huang wanted to unify all the states during the
Warring States period. He was known as the first Emperor to unify China. Emperor Shi Huang ended
the Zhou dynasty and destroyed the remaining 6 kingdoms and took control of it. The land which was
divided by the 7 kingdoms was then unified under the Qin into one empire. Everything in the Qin
Dynasty went well at that time. However, Emperor Shi Huang realized that there was always a threat

A High Point Of Japanese Aristocratic Culture
A high point of Japanese aristocratic culture, the Heian period was a time of significant intellectual
and cultural growth. It is during this time that women came to have a very important role in the social
and interpersonal workings of the court. Though there were still many restrictions upon them, women
were able to express themselves as never before and faced a surprising degree of freedom and
autonomy in a society that was defined by an immense amount of rigid formalities. One of the things I
found to be most interesting from my findings were the power structures that developed within the
court of Empress Fujiwara No Shoshi. Women as well as men not only exerted influence within the
court but also developed pecking orders as well. Though, today, we have a rough idea of what this
pecking order may have looked like with the Empress at the top followed by imperial consorts and the
Empresses ladies in waiting, there appears to be no official documented hierarchal structure. Yet,
although their may be no official documentation of this structure, evidence of these power structures
can be found in the memoirs and works of women of the time, including Murasaki Shikibu and Sei
Shonagon. In a society where one was defined almost entirely by their social standing, earning the title
of Lady in Waiting was an extremely sought after goal. Although the title most certainly provided
women within the court certain privileges over others, it also came with a great deal of anxiety and

Sweatshops are factories that are used around the world that major brand companies use to make
products. These factories have gained media attention and controversy for the long hours and low pay
given to the workers. Many people say to boycott these factories because of the latter reasons, but
consumers shouldn t boycott companies that make sweatshop products. The first reason consumers
shouldn t boycott these products would be people actually deliberately take these jobs because in
developing countries most jobs don t pay that much. The second reason consumers shouldn t boycott
sweatshop products would be that it allows a lot of people in the developing worlds to rise out of
poverty. To summarize, consumers do not have the ethical responsibility to boycott products made in

down their workplaces as stated in an interview with some sweatshop workers in China. Another main
point of their argument is that conditions in these factories are abusive and horrible. However, again
many people take these jobs willingly meaning that they really don t care about these conditions
because they need money. Finally they believe that boycotting sweatshops will do something good for

Reflection Paper On Group Interaction
REFLECTION PAPER
Identified Experience
The group member I identified most with was Andrew in the first program. I identified with Andrew
because he stated he felt like an outsider at times. He felt that it was easier to talk with men than
women. However, in my case, I feel as though it is easier to talk with women than men in a group.
Overall, I feel hesitant to share because most of my group participation has been with practically
strangers. Like the video, I believe it is difficult to talk out loud about personal issues. Talking out
loud about issues that may cause anxiety has been a problem for me personally for many years.
However, after dialoguing with others within groups, I tend to become more comfortable talking and
opening up. In the first program, as the group members began to talk in the first segment, there was a
difference in the ability to relate to each other. I believe the dyads influenced open up and talking out
loud. Working in pairs facilitates member interaction because talking to one person seems less
threatening than addressing the entire group (p. 18). At the beginning of the sessions the group leaders
asked each member to look around the room to gain a feel of the group members. The purpose of
assessing the tone of the room will create an awareness of everyone in the room. Also, everyone
introduced themselves by saying their names.
During the early part of the group interactions, Andrew identified with James as feeling like an
outsider. I believe at this time was the beginning if Andrew doing the work. The group leader asked
Andrew can he relate to anyone else in the group. Nobody knows what it feels like to be the other
person. The only way to express how I feel would be to realize within discussion and verbalize my
feelings. We do not assume that we know what being an outsider means to Andrew or James, nor do
we know what feeling stupid is like for Jacqueline, so we ask all three of them to note and verbalize
when they become aware of these feelings (p. 17). Throughout this session each members were
encouraged to talk out loud to verbalized related issues. I believe the entire session is a process of
doing the work. As I watched the video of the first

My Philosophy And Philosophy Of Personal Educational...
It is true that many educators do not know what their educational philosophy is. However it is
imperative for educators and future educators to know their personal educational philosophies so that
they can be accountable, explain how they teach, what they are doing and why. My personal
Educational philosophy is made up of four components; metaphysics, epistemology, axiology, and
logic.
My educational Philosophy Metaphysics (reality) is a combination of realism and idealism, that the
mind, spirit, and body are connected and that they should and must work together. God is the father of
the universe. He created it for his spirit children who he loves and communicates with on a daily basis.
Individuals are spirit sons and daughters that God ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When students are encouraged to tutor their peers and younger students, their own learning is
enhanced. Going out into the community to learn about subjects coupled with reading about them in
books is a powerful learning tool as well. Once students are in the community and aware of what the
community needs, students should be encouraged to take some action or responsibility in planning for
a change. I am an advocate of behaviorism. Educators should discourage poor behaviors and
encourage appropriate behaviors as well as teach new behaviors. Students are capable and should be
involved in creating rules for the classroom. Education should encourage cooperation and teach
decision making skills. School should be a place of molding (without forcing) children into good
citizens that will contribute to the community in a positive way.
My Educational Philosophy consists of bits and pieces of many of the philosophies because most of
the philosophies included components I would not or could not include in my own. None of the
philosophies metaphysics matched my own, so I combined the metaphysics of realism and idealism
because Idealists believe that the spirit and mind are the only reality, where realists believe that the
body or matter is more real than the mind. I believe that the mind and spirit and body are a unit and
must work together for the common good. I think that the curriculum of

Genome engineering using the CRISPR Cas9 system
Matei Agavriloaei 120004682

ABSTRACT:
Modified nucleases have been used for years in order to achieve successful genome editing and are
nowadays an almost universally used method. RNA guided nucleases (such as Cas9) with easily
changeable characteristics have been generated in great numbers especially since the emergence of
clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR). This represents the most modern
tool that can be used by scientists for genome editing. This technology can bring a broad range of
medical benefits and advancements (1).

Cas genes code for proteins related to CRISPRs. This association is a prokaryotic immune system.
CRISPR spacers recognize and cut the foreign DNA material, just as RNAi does in eukaryotic
organisms (2).
In 2013, this system started being used (and is still widely used today) for adding and changing
sequences of targeted genes (4), process also known as genome editing. The genome can be cut any
location by guiding properly RNAs into a cell and also delivering Cas9 protein. In theory, it could be
possible to build RNA guided gene drives with the use of CRISPR to alter the genetic code of entire
populations (5).
CRISPR RNA (crRNA) and Cas proteins come together and form CRISPR ribonucleic proteins
(crRNPs) for appropriate targeting and cleaving of the foreign nucleic acid (3).
Due to the accelerate evolution of the immune system, the CRISPR Cas systems are highly diverse
and have been catalogued into three main types, each of them having a specific Cas protein. Type I
and III and related and contain Cas3 nuclease helicase and Cas10 (a protein with an unknown
function) respectively. Type II is phylogenetically different and is represented by the Cas9 nuclease.
Type II has three different subunits (A, B and C) and their crRNPs are all known as Cas9 complexes.
They are restricted only to bacteria, not being in present in archaea as well (3).

Psychedelic drug use has been present in both traditions and used recreationally for millennia. Their
use can be seen in all corners of the planet by many sects of religions and indigenous peoples. Reasons
for usage vary from religious or medical purposes, hunting, war, and spirituality. The drug use was

It wasn t until recently that the government cracked down on the use of psychedelic drugs. They

In theory, it has been proved that futures and swaps can be equal to the combination of forwards. (Hull
J C, 1997)Generally, a foreign exchange settlement contract will be signed by banks and their
customers, which stipulates the type of foreign currency to be used, the sum, the exchange rates and
duration. On the due date when income or expenditure of foreign exchange occurs, currency exchange
settlement will be operated in accordance with the contract. In order to improve efficiency, it s
necessary to adjust the hedging when using forward contracts. (Brealey R, Kaplanis E. 1995)When the
interest rate fluctuates randomly, the forwards strategy can be divided into three smaller parts: the
Minimum Variance Hedging, Merton / Breeden Hedging and speculation. (Briys E, Solnik B.
1992)When the interest rate is certain, there is no price difference between futures contracts and
forward contracts. Perfect hedge can be achieved, no matter what type of hedging tools is used.
However, the two is no longer able to replace each other when interest rates move randomly, because
of the existence of marking to market in futures market operation. The above selection is based on the
effectiveness of futures and forwards. Next, the selection rules will emphasis on other features.

tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig ( Chinese Zodiac Sign ). The
animal year can be related to the ten heavenly stems and twelve earthy branches. The ten heavenly
stems and twelve earthly branches are like any other calendar. It is used to count hours, the time of
years, and months. When counting years, people use them with the 12 Chinese Zodiac [signs] . . .
(Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches). The Yellow Emperor also known as Huangdi summand Da
Rao Shi to make a calendar. Da Rao Shi created the calendar system. He studied the four seasons and
the differences between earth and sky. The year that people are born in will affect what type of animal
they will be. The year affects what type of animal they will be because the animal changes every year.
For example the Dragon started at February 5, 2000 to January 23, 2001. Then the Snake was January
24, 2001 to February 11, 2002 and so on until the twelve year cycle ends and another twelve year
cycle begins. Even the time and day will affect the animal they could be. It is important to remember
when determining the hour in which you were born, that hours are not based on local time, but in
relation to the sun s location according

are any services in which the CPA firm issues a report that expresses a conclusion about the reliability

The ASB previously had responsibility for establishing auditing standards for both public and private
companies. Existing auditing standards were adopted by the PCAOB as interim auditing standards for
public company audits.
2 8 Generally accepted auditing standards are ten general guidelines to aid auditors in fulfilling their
professional responsibilities. These guidelines include three general standards concerned with
competence, independence, and due professional care; three standards of field work including
planning and supervision, understanding the entity and its environment, including its internal control,
and the gathering of sufficient appropriate evidence; and four standards of reporting, which require a
statement as to presentation in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles,
inconsistency observed in the current period in relation to the preceding period, adequate disclosure,
and the expression of an opinion as to the fairness of the presentation of the financial statements.
Generally accepted accounting principles are specific rules for accounting for transactions occurring
in a business enterprise. Examples may be any of the opinions of the FASB.
2 9 Auditors can obtain adequate technical training and proficiency through formal education in
auditing and accounting, adequate practical experience, and continuing professional education.
Auditors can demonstrate their proficiency by becoming licensed to practice as CPAs, which

Medical Experiments During World War II
To what extent did medical experiments during World War II affect modern medicine? Section 1:
Identification and Evaluation of sources This investigation will explore the question : To what extent
did World War II benefit the medical field? The years 1930 1950 will be the primary focus of this
investigation allowing analysis of the medical experiments and the outcomes the experiments brought
forth. The first source to be evaluated is Frances R. Frankenburg s book Human Medical

Becker Freyseng was part of many experiments in Nazi concentration camps. He conducted research
on how high altitudes would affect humans. He used low pressure chambers to observe how much
pressure people could handle. He did experiments to see how cold temperatures would affect the
human body. They did this to test how they could rewarm people with hypothermia. He even forced
people to drink saltwater in hopes he could find ways to make saltwater a valuable resource for
German soldiers. He killed many people and discovered very little. Joseph Mengele was another
German who conducted many experiments on jews. His largest interest was in genetics. His focus was
to try and create the perfect race as quickly as possible. He tried all sorts of crazy things such as
injecting dye into patients eyes in order to make them blue. In 1943 he became the leader of the
women section in Auschwitz. He got to decide who got to stay and who went to the gas chambers.
Those who stayed got to be part of his medical experiments. His largest interest was in twins. Eva Kor,
who is now a nationally recognized person, has written many books such as Surviving the Angel of
Death and speeches about her encounters with Mengele. Eva Kor and her family were taken to
Auschwitz when she was 10 years old. Her mother was holding on to her and her twin sister in hopes
to protect them. As I looked around, I realized my

The Role Of Women In Mrs. Dalloway, By Virginia Woolf
Throughout Mrs. Dalloway, Virginia Woolf uses the characters Clarissa and Lucrezia not only to
further the plot of the story but to make a profound statement about the role of wives in both society
and their marriages. While these women are subjected to differing experiences in their marriages,
there is one common thread that unites each of their marriages: oppression. These women drive the
story of Mrs. Dalloway and provide meaning and reason in the lives of the men in the story; however,
these women are slowly but surely forced to forsake their own ambitions in order to act in accordance
with the social standards set in place by marriage for women. For women outside of many modern
cultures, marriage has been a necessity for a woman s safety and security, and it required her to give
up her freedom and passions and subjected her to an oppressed lifestyle. Ultimately, through the wives
in Mrs. Dalloway, Woolf communicates that marriage is an institution where in women are forced to
suppress their individual desires and passions in order to serve their husband and further his own
ambitions as first priority. From the beginning of Mrs. Dalloway, Woolf establishes that Clarissa s
bright and hopeful spirit has become dulled and burdened when subjected to the oppressive nature of
marriage. During a glimpse into her younger years, the reader is able to see Clarissa. With each
flashback into Clarissa s youth, the reader is provided another image of Clarissa before marriage, one
that highlights her passion and curiosity for life. While Clarissa felt a passion and connection with
Peter, she could not bear to live in a marriage where her freedom was something she had to sacrifice.
The decision she makes is logical in some ways, but her choice also brings into question the fault of
her marriage in the first place. In Clarissa s world, the option for passion and the security of her
freedom was not available nor would it ever be; therefore, she was forced to choose between the two.
Men, however, were not forced to make such decisions and were given the liberty to wait well into
their later years to find a spouse suitable to their liking. By choosing to marry Richard over Peter,
Clarissa forsook the option of passion in

  • 2. Athenian Imperialism and her Changing Relations with Allies Nature of Athenian Imperialism Changing Relations with Allies Lars Hoogvliet After the conclusion of the Persian Wars (492 479BC) with Athens being the true victor, and before the Peloponnesian War, a period of prosperity covered Athens, and they needed to devise new ways to protect themselves and expand their wealth, and how this would affect their relations with allies. The Athenians and their Allies was an organisation led by the Athenians in the 5th century, but is now referred to as the Delian League or the Confederacy of Athens. The official aim of the League was, according to Thucydides, to compensate themselves for their losses [of the Persian War] by ravaging the territory of the King of Persia. The long term aim of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The besiegement of Thasos revealed Athens true motivations behind the League and the future plans for her allies. According to _Ancient Greece Using Sources_ Thasos was one of the largest and richest members of the Delian League, and a conflict broke out between Athens and Thasos over the gold mining on the island. Thasos then attempted to withdraw from the League, as the Persians were no longer a threat in the Aegean, and Athens was demanding too much for too little in return. The League, under the control of Cimon, then besieged Thasos for two years, and destroyed their city walls, confiscated their navy, closed their mint and annexed their possessions on the mainland. According to Thucydides, the period from the revolt of Thasos to the ostracism of Cimon (465 461BC) was the time when the main friction between Sparta and Athens occurred and eventually led to their war. If Sparta really was willing to attack Athens, an apparent ally, then their relationship must have been weak and forced. Was Sparta jealous of Athens wealth and power? Did they feel threatened by the Athenians sudden harshness against their own allies ? Or it could have been a combination of reasons. Thucydides didn t help either when his pro Athenian feelings got the better of him, this was a time when Sparta was particularly friendly to Athens because of the courage displayed by Athens against the Persians. The war began because of a military conflict between the United States and Great Britain. The war lasted from 1812 to 1814. The War started when the colony of Great Britain and Canada, got invaded by the Americans. In conclusion, the war was a war of honor and respect and not to be judged (i.e., footnote 1). The War of 1812 had a big effect on America and how the world viewed the developing nation. Position, authority, and money are not important in his kingdom what matters is faithful obedience from the heart. The Sermon on the Mount challenged the proud and legalistic religious leaders of the day. It called them back to the messages of the Old Testament prophets who, like Jesus, taught that heartfelt obedience is more important than legalistic observance. With Jesus announcement that the kingdom was near. People were naturally asking, How do I qualify to be in God s kingdom? Jesus said that God s kingdom is organized differently from worldly kingdoms. In the kingdom of heaven, wealth and power and authority are unimportant. Kingdom people seek different blessings and benefits, and they have different attitudes. Jesus was talking about the way things should be instead of how they were. He disclosed some of the principles and requirements of approaching the Kingdom of God. Intervertebral Disc Degeneration CBD May Prevent Intervertebral Disc Degeneration Intervertebral disc degeneration is a common disorder that is characterized by the progressive degeneration of the intervertebral discs, resulting in deformity and dysfunction. The structural and functional integrity of the spine in essence is compromised due to several issues, including inflammation, diminished oxygen, and deficiency of essential water and sugars, which are key components of intervertebral discs balance and proper function. In the United States, roughly 5% of the population experience chronic lower back pain problems, much of which is associated with the disorder. In a 2014 controlled animal study, Protective Effects of Cannabidiol on Lesion Induced Intervertebral Disc Degeneration, published in PLos suggests that the non psychoactive cannabinoid cannabidiol (CBD) may be valuable in reducing physical damage resulting from intervertebral disc degeneration. In the study, 19 rats with induced replica of human IVD degeneration (damage to their spinal discs) were divided into three groups, and one administered 30nmol of CBD, one 60nmol, and another 120nmol of CBD; An examination of the discs using MRI and microscopic analysis revealed that the lower dosages of treatment had very little effect, while the group given 120nmol of CBD experienced a reduction in damage after the first 2 day and improvements persisted up to day 15 of the study. Sourcehttp://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4269422/ Despite the small sample size, the researchers were optimistic about the results and felt that future research could uncover even more about the mechanisms involved in CBD effects. They noted, Considering that cannabidiol presents an extremely safe profile and is currently being used clinically, these results suggest that this compound could be useful in the treatment of intervertebral disc degeneration... Cryptosporidiosis, according to the CDC, has become one of the most common causes of waterborne diseases in the United States, with outbreaks increasing annually. An outbreak of Cryptosporidiosis, in Milwaukee in 1993 affected around 400,000 people and was traced to the city s water supply (NFID, 2008). The most common symptom associated with this disease is Diarrhea. Pathophysiology Cryptosporidiosis is an infection caused by the spore forming protozoan known as Cryptosporidia (Jacqueline, 2015). The most known cause or reason that you can get Cryptosporidiosis is by digesting contaminated water, but also it can be spread by humans through sexual behavior (Jacqueline, 2015). A person can get infected with Cryptosporidiosis by digesting contaminated water, this can occur through drinking or swimming in infected water, swallowing or putting something infected in the mouth (such as fingers), being exposed to human feces through sexual contact , or by eating uncooked food (such as salad greens) that has been contaminated (John et al. 2012). Most people who experience significant symptoms from Cryptosporidiosis have an altered immune system, and suffer from diseases such as AIDS and cancer (Jaqueline, 2015). Due to a protective outer shell, Cryptosporidium can live outside of the body for several months and are very resistant to the chlorine based disinfectants that are often used to treat water sources (GEEH, 2013). Clinical Manifestation Cysts of Cryptosporidia mature in the intestine and bile ducts within three to five days of ingestion. Many individuals are infected without any illness, but the major symptom of Cryptosporidiosis is diarrhea, which is often watery. Pasadena Museum Of California Art Analysis The Pasadena Museum of California Art has a beautiful exterior with an open air staircase with moody light play from an oculus above its entrance to a three story facility. The walls all around it are covered in complicated patterns and symbols. The building definitely stands out against all the other buildings in the area. The inside is very roomy, and filled with lots of artwork all around. The first piece of artwork is by William S. Rice. This piece is a painting, with many, many different colors. The artist wants world peace basically, but us Christians should know that that is impossible, only in heaven. So this painting may just show what the artist wishes the world could be like. The second piece of art is called: Wounds of Existence. This seems to be a painting on a unusually rugged surface made out of un sanded wooden planks. It depicts what seems like, a man and a women with their faces close to each other with sad faces. The subject matter of this piece seem to be mellow and sad. I picked this piece because it jumped out at me at how absolutely unique it was, being painted on wooden planks. All the colors in this piece are more dark, and no color really stand out above the rest. Even though the surface of this painting was very un even, I could still see the shapes, colors and patterns. However, cop cars pass by in seconds, so I am glad other methods of patrol are being used like foot patrol, bicycle patrol, and mounted patrol. It is during this time that women came to have a very important role in the social and interpersonal workings of the court. Though there were still many restrictions upon them, women were able to express themselves as never before and faced a surprising degree of freedom and autonomy in a society that was defined by an immense amount of rigid formalities. One of the things I found to be most interesting from my findings were the power structures that developed within the court of Empress Fujiwara No Shoshi. Women as well as men not only exerted influence within the court but also developed pecking orders as well. Though, today, we have a rough idea of what this pecking order may have looked like with the Empress at the top followed by imperial consorts and the Empresses ladies in waiting, there appears to be no official documented hierarchal structure. Yet, although their may be no official documentation of this structure, evidence of these power structures can be found in the memoirs and works of women of the time, including Murasaki Shikibu and Sei Shonagon. In a society where one was defined almost entirely by their social standing, earning the title of Lady in Waiting was an extremely sought after goal. The first reason consumers shouldn t boycott these products would be people actually deliberately take these jobs because in developing countries most jobs don t pay that much. I identified with Andrew because he stated he felt like an outsider at times. He felt that it was easier to talk with men than women. However, in my case, I feel as though it is easier to talk with women than men in a group. Overall, I feel hesitant to share because most of my group participation has been with practically strangers. Like the video, I believe it is difficult to talk out loud about personal issues. Talking out loud about issues that may cause anxiety has been a problem for me personally for many years. However, after dialoguing with others within groups, I tend to become more comfortable talking and opening up. In the first program, as the group members began to talk in the first segment, there was a difference in the ability to relate to each other. I believe the dyads influenced open up and talking out loud. Working in pairs facilitates member interaction because talking to one person seems less threatening than addressing the entire group (p. 18). At the beginning of the sessions the group leaders asked each member to look around the room to gain a feel of the group members. The purpose of assessing the tone of the room will create an awareness of everyone in the room. Also, everyone introduced themselves by saying their names. However it is imperative for educators and future educators to know their personal educational philosophies so that they can be accountable, explain how they teach, what they are doing and why. My personal Educational philosophy is made up of four components; metaphysics, epistemology, axiology, and logic. My educational Philosophy Metaphysics (reality) is a combination of realism and idealism, that the mind, spirit, and body are connected and that they should and must work together. I am an advocate of behaviorism. Educators should discourage poor behaviors and encourage appropriate behaviors as well as teach new behaviors. Students are capable and should be involved in creating rules for the classroom. Education should encourage cooperation and teach decision making skills. A Short Note On Gene Regulation And Expression BS31006 Gene Regulation Expression Dr. Armel Nicolas Genome engineering using the CRISPR Cas9 system Matei Agavriloaei 120004682 24/11/2014 ABSTRACT: Modified nucleases have been used for years in order to achieve successful genome editing and are nowadays an almost universally used method. RNA guided nucleases (such as Cas9) with easily changeable characteristics have been generated in great numbers especially since the emergence of clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR). This represents the most modern tool that can be used by scientists for genome editing. This technology can bring a broad range of medical benefits and advancements (1). Figure 1: Overview of the CRISPR Cas system it shows the adaptive immunity with the use of viral DNA (3); Cas genes code for proteins related to CRISPRs. This association is a prokaryotic immune system. CRISPR spacers recognize and cut the foreign DNA material, just as RNAi does in eukaryotic organisms (2). In 2013, this system started being used (and is still widely used today) for adding and changing sequences of targeted genes (4), process also known as genome editing. The genome can be cut any location by guiding properly RNAs into a cell and also delivering Cas9 protein. In theory, it could be possible to build RNA guided gene drives with the use of CRISPR to alter the genetic code of entire populations (5). CRISPR RNA (crRNA) and Cas proteins come together and form CRISPR ribonucleic proteins (crRNPs) for appropriate targeting and cleaving of the foreign nucleic acid (3). Due to the accelerate evolution of the immune system, the CRISPR Cas systems are highly diverse and have been catalogued into three main types, each of them having a specific Cas protein. Type I and III and related and contain Cas3 nuclease helicase and Cas10 (a protein with an unknown function) respectively. Type II is phylogenetically different and is represented by the Cas9 nuclease. Type II has three different subunits (A, B and C) and their crRNPs are all known as Cas9 complexes. They are restricted only to bacteria, not being in present in archaea as well (3).

The Role Of Women In Mrs. Dalloway, By Virginia Woolf Throughout Mrs. Dalloway, Virginia Woolf uses the characters Clarissa and Lucrezia not only to further the plot of the story but to make a profound statement about the role of wives in both society and their marriages.
