Hearing The Differences Of The Deaf Culture
Hearing the differences
According to the World Health Organization, there are 360 Million people in this world who live
with a debilitating hearing loss. Hearing loss and deafness is more common than what it s
perceived to be. Hearing individuals may view people with a type of loss as a minority. Every
minority group has their story to tell. The Deaf have a very unique story, but they are not a
minority group but rather a culture. Carol Paden author of Inside Deaf Culture defines a culture as
a group of people that share language, values, rules of behavior, and traditions. The Deaf culture is
unlike any other culture seen before and it differentiates from the typical American culture in many
ways. The difference of this culture that makes them special is that they are a culture that has not
been passed by residence, nationality, or percentage. They are a minority but they are not defined
as a minority group. The Deaf defiantly don t have as many privileges as the hearing culture such
as being heard and often being underestimated and discriminated for their disability.
When examining the Deaf culture the idea of family has deep roots of communication, support,
advocacy and self identity. Not every person who is deaf or hard of hearing is part of the Deaf
term, which excludes him or her from the Deaf culture.
Holcomb, Author of Introduction to American Deaf culture states that the term Deaf refers to an
individual who uses ASL, identifies as a member of Deaf culture, and

The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)
The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a program that employed millions of young,
unmarried men on environmental projects during the Great Depression from 1933 1942. The CCC
was one of FDR s most popular and most successful New Deal programs. It employed 300,000 men
that helped plant over three billion trees, constructed nature trails in more than 800 parks around
the United States, and shaped the national parks we enjoy today (History.com). The CCC s impact
can be noticed everyday all around the nation. The book Hitch by Jeanette Ingold is historically
accurate with its portrayal of the Civilian Conservation Corps. This CCC stuff is just temporary for

Compton is pretty angry in this quote because he is working beside criminals. In fact, Moss had
been arrested for trespassing on railroad property. A lot of men and women were arrested for
petty crimes, and many were sent to the CCC to get them off of the streets and to give people
something to do. According to ccclegacy.com, one Chicago judge felt the CCC was largely
responsible for the large reduction in crime. The CCC gave young men a job, taught them
skills, and provided them with a lot of benefits. It gave them a sense of self worth and value as
they helped their families, it helped the communities they worked in, and it boosted their own
self esteem. Having real work to do charged up the guys (Ingold 285). The CCC was developed to
create jobs that would boost the economy. The CCC specifically targeted young men, providing
them with employment, food, and shelter. These young men often sent money home to their
families. In exchange, the men received training and education that would stay with the
throughout their lives. Besides economic benefits, the CCC also provided a lasting legacy in our
country. There are 16 parks that were built by the CCC in South Carolina alone. The CCC was a
resounding success for the New Deal and the country because it supplied jobs, education, and a

Setting Of The Boy In The Striped Pajamas

How Setting Impinges Upon The Boy In The Striped The Striped Pajamas
In many fictional works the setting can change the whole story in the blink of an eye. The Boy In
The Striped Pajamas is a book set in WWII. However, the story is told through the eyes of a
young, innocent german boy named Bruno. Bruno s family lives in Berlin until Hitler orders Bruno
s father to move to Auschwitz to direct the camp. Bruno eventually meets and befriends one of the
Jewish prisoners living in the camp. Specific parts of the setting such as the weather and the time
period can heavily influence the mood, negatively or positively. Also, individual aspects of the
character s surroundings can provide the basis for important events and/or twists in the plot.
Character s thoughts, actions, and feelings can be developed with help from the setting. The setting
of a concentration camp negatively influences the mood, provides the basis for pivotal events in the
plot, and develops the character s thoughts and actions in The Boy In The Striped Pajamas.
The mood throughout the story is very often negatively influenced by the setting of a
concentration camp. The house in which Bruno and his family live at Auschwitz is small and
lonely. The new house, however, stood all on its own in an empty, desolate place and there were
no other houses anywhere to be seen, which meant there would be no other families around and no
other boys to play

The Effects Of Divorce On Children And Teens
Divorce is one of the most common happenings in the world experienced by children. Most
children go through different adjustments to become comfortable with the fact that their parents
are not together anymore. Children of divorced parents are prone to lifelong effects. Seventy five
to eighty percent of children have divorced parents and twenty five percent of those children have
serious social, emotional, or psychological problems for the rest of their life. Most adults think that
it is best for parents to stay together for the sake of their child because having two parents in
different households can become difficult for the child socially and academically.
Parents value obedience as a favor when the child s actions conflict with the parents rights.
Different parents have all sorts of rules for their child in different households. It becomes difficult
for the child during a divorce because now they are needed to go by different rules in different
households. Studies show that if the child is out with the wrong parent they will most likely do
drugs or bad in school. Children and teens start to make bad decisions when they re going through
their parents divorce. The child needs discipline, The child tends to more likely do better if the
parents has rules in their household. The younger they are, the less they achieve academically.
Parenting has a huge impact on the child s whole life.
The way your parent acts reflects on the child s behavior so that is why parenting is

I Read My Favorite Book
Ever since I was little, I have always loved to read. If I liked a book, I would read it until I could
barely keep my eyes open. However, I have never fallen asleep while reading a book I enjoyed. The
first book I ever read was Ten Apples Up on Top by Dr. Suess and this book continues to be my
favorite book by him. Other books I read when I was younger included the Five Little Monkeys
books and later Junie B. Jones. The Five Little Monkeys books were enjoyable to me and I
remember having this one amazing, indescribable feeling of joy while reading these books.
Contrastingly, the Junie B. Jones book about the monster under her bed made me extra worried
about monsters under my bed. When I was a little bit older, I read a book called The Mysterious
Benedict Society, which was a long chapter book, unlike the Junie B. Jones books. The
Mysterious Benedict Society is about a group of intelligent kids with different special talents that
the Society uses to help save kids who are being mind controlled at a boarding school. Speaking of
boarding schools, I also read the Harry Potterbooks when I was in Elementary School. My mom
used to try to read the first book to me, but we would forget to keep reading it. Eventually, my
sister read the books, so we watched the movies as she read the series. After a while, though, my
parents told me that I was not allowed to watch any more of the movies until I had read the books,
so I decided to read the books and enjoyed them more than I expected

My Love Of Dance
It seems like from the moment I could walk, I have had a love for dancing. When I was little,
every chance I got, I would perform in front of my family. Whether I was singing, dancing,
dressing up, or pretending to be a model on the runway, I wanted all the attention on me. When my
mom put me into dance classes, I instantly fell in love with it, because the whole time, I got to do
what I loved the most: perform. As the years went on, dancebecame something I was truly
passionate about, and the lessons I learned from it began to change me. Those lessons and the ones
I am still learning from dance have had a huge impact on me, making me into the person I am today.
When I was little dance was a way to have fun and be a star, and I could show the big outgoing
personality I had, but I became more reserved and shy as I grew up. Throughout intermediate
school and junior high, I remained someone who was an introvert and strayed away from most
social encounters. During this time, dance was something that allowed me to express what I was
feeling, but without words. The few friends I had at the time had been in my life since
kindergarten. Life was very comfortable and easy for me since I had lived in the same place
forever. I didn t want anything to change, and the idea of anything changing scared me. What I
didn t know was that a change would be exactly what I needed.
At the start of high school, my family moved to a new town. This meant making a whole new group
of friends. But how?

Spring Awakening Play Theme
Spring Awakening is a rock musical set in late 19th century Germany. It follows the lives of young
teenagers (from fourteen to sixteen) as they navigate through the turmoil of their teenage sexuality.
The musical contains some explicitly mature content and themes, such as sex, conception, erotic
dreams, expressed desire for physical intimacy, physical and sexual abuse, hitting, ambiguously
consensual sex, suicide, inappropriate language such as cursing, teenage pregnancy, masturbation,
and death caused by an incorrectly executed abortion. The musical is based off of the play Spring
Awakeningwritten by Frank Wedekind in the late 1800 s. At the time, it was written for the
purpose of commenting on how German culture revolved around the purpose of oppressing young
teenagers sexual desire and shaming those who were curious about sexuality. The controversial
and, at the time, problematic themes were meant to act as a wake up call to those who forced
ignorance of sexual instruction on their children. This is the reason for the significance of the
setting, at the time Germany was focused on preventing children from becoming educated on sex.
As the characters grew up, this setting was a catalyst for the tragic events that occurred in the wake
of the children being poorly informed on sex, pregnancy, and the cause of their sexual desires.
While the musical adapted from the original play does not contain the same social commentary, the
harshness of the message is still evident.

Homework Controversy
Is homework helpful or harmful?
The homework controversy has been going on for a quiet a long time with no end in sight.
Homework is defined as an out of class task assigned to the students to help with practice or
prepare for the future. Homework has been around a long period of time. It has set and traced as
a tradition of having teachers assigning work and students completing it. Parents say that teachers
require it and teachers say s that parents demand to help their kids to finish it. Teachers assign
homework to help some students improve their grade, pass course, re learn the subject you learn in
the class, and pass the course for those of who do not do well on tests and exams. Can homework
be considered helpful or harmful? This interrogation turns into an argument or debate between two
reasonable subjects. Especially for the student s athletes or any students who enjoys after school
activities, homework hurts probably the most. The assignments take away time, which could be
spent on doing more productive actions or spend time with your family or may cause unnecessary
stress.
Parents, educators, students and indeed general public have all deeply divided over the
homework issues for a while. When a student s falls asleep in class, he or she is unusually is
disciplined for it. The parents of the younger K 12 students are revolting against the reportedly
increasing amounts of homework assigned their children (David) . The parents are not happy about
their kids to do

The Saint Louis County Emergency Operations Plan

The Saint Louis County emergency Operations plan has the fundamental mission of establishing
the emergency guidelines for the County and other offices to follow during a major incident or

assistance and informs at all levels what their responsibilities are during a response incident. The

The command and control of the plan starts with the County Executive as the lawful person
authorized to declare an emergency. The County Executive is supported by four groups Executive

Group ( St Louis County BEOP, 2013). The plan includes a line of secession that takes into
account the County Executive not being available or if he/she becomes incapacitated for any
reason. This line of secession is an element that is extremely important for the continuity of any
plan. Establishing the line of secession within a plan allows for everyone to be informed of who is
in line if something happens and what provisions are required for the assumption of duties if the
senior official becomes unavailable (FEMA, n.d.).

Religious Holy War
The religious holy war is a conflict that caused because of the differences in religion, and beliefs

Feminism And The Third Wave Of Feminism
As the feminist revolution has advanced so has the definition of feminism. In 2017 feminism means
something completely different than what it did in the days of women s suffrage. No longer is
feminism working on allowing women just to vote. It focuses on intersectionality, gender norms,
women s reproductive rights, and so much more. We are in the third wave of feminism. In 2017
most millennials identify with third wave feminism or a variant of the movement and strive to
abolish genderroles, patriarchy, and fight for women s rights and equality. Our distinct personal

Andrea has experienced gender inequality the most in their place of work, which is the male
dominated field of civil engineering and in academia.
Women and female bodied individuals in America have had issues with inequality in school and
their place of work for centuries. While in school young girls are taught that they are not as
special as their male peers and experience many limitations. In Judith Lorber s The Social
Construction of Gender (1991) we learn how the differences among girls and boys are what
society uses to shape gender roles. Young girls learn that their education is not as important as a
man s they learn that their roles as mothers and looking attractive is more important even if they
grow up to have the same positions as men. The differences that women and men face are a part
of the process in which gender is socially constructed. Lorber states, As a process, gender creates
the social differences that define woman and man . In social interaction throughout their lives,
individuals learn what is expected, act and react in expected ways.... (Lorber, Kirk Okazawa Rey,
1991, p.67).
Lorber also states, Societies vary in the extent of inequality in the social status of their women and
men members, but where there is inequality, the status woman (and its attendant behavior and the
role allocations) is usually held in lesser esteem than the status man (Lorber, Kirk Okazawa Rey,
1991, p.67). Andrea s experiences

I Tonya Film Analysis
You know you are getting old when Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan are becoming dated
references but that is where we are on the brink of 2018. Arguably the biggest scandal in the
history of ice skating happened in the early 1990s and here to tell the story from Tonya s point of
view is the film I, Tonya.
I, Tonya is a documentary style film about the life of controversial figure skater Tonya Harding,
born in the boonies of Portland, Oregon Tonya dealt with an abusive mother raising her to be a
child prodigy in the figure skating world. However, her attitude leads to many fights with judges
who never gave her the recognition she deserves being the first US female skater to land a triple
double. It is here she meets her first husband; Jeff Gillooly who was also abusive to her but was
behind her throughout her skating career. One night during the 1994 U.S. Figure Skating
Championships in Detroit, Jeff conspires to scare Nancy Kerrigan giving Tonya a better chance of
winning. His associate Shawn Eckardt decides to take matters into his own hands and has Nancy
attacked during training leading to the infamous scandal that ruined Harding s career. ... Show more

free range to bring her own spin to the character (the reason she was nominated for a Golden

the events and how they unfolded conflicts with Tonya s version of the story. The rest of the
supporting cast is as true to the real events as they can be. As a matter of fact, I found an old

How Much Attention And Nurturing Children Receive
How much attention and nurturing children receive does, in fact, affect how they will develop as
adolescents and adults in areas of personality, emotion, and social interaction. John Bowlby, a
British researcher, a child psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, is well known in Psychology for his
research specializing in parent or primary caregiver child relationships. His research influenced
Mary Ainsworth who later became his research assistant and continued his research on attachment
after his death. Being neglected as a child by parents and caregivers, he understood the negative
effects of growing up lonely and detached. John Bowlbyfounded the attachment theory, an essential
theory in Psychologythat reveals the negative impact of neglect and is now used as a reference to
understand its effects. The theory is an important advance in Developmental Psychology because
children were now viewed as vulnerable and need the care to develop to their full potential
development. Therefore, methods of how to understand and interact with the victims of neglect
were needed for professionals in the fields of medicine, law, and education.
Being born into an upper class family in the 20th century, John Bowlby was a prime example of a
victim of neglect. Upper class families often left their children to caregivers and seldom interacted
with them, similar to Bowlby s case. Elizabeth Carr and Mauricio Cortina in Heinz Kohut and John

Universal Medical Codes
In the health care system, there are a lot of codes that help diagnose, treat, and discharge patients
daily. Codes help nurses
especially make reports faster along with making them easier to read for individuals within the HIS

an individual that was out of town, got
injured and then wanted your care while you were out of town to be documented through medical
records. Medical records at the town
you were in uses a list of codes that are not accepted by the CPT manual. So now, when your

Why is a universal code manual supposed to be used around the world? Simple, so your care is
properly documented and can be billed to you in the correct manner. Also, another use for medical
codes is to protect yourself from false
documentation. If your documentation is correctly coded according to the CPT manual and
everything else follow correctly, you would be
covered if your documents got tested by someone higher than you or another hospital perhaps. Good
documentation provides a safety
net because it shows exactly what patient care you actually provided. If there is any scrutiny, you
are more protected. (Key Issues

Summary Of Johnny Tremain
Johnny Tremain
Chapter 4
Summary: It was already past dawn when Johnny woke up. He was still hopeful with Merchant
Lyte. He was imagining how Mrs.Lapham would so awkward curtsies, and how Madge and
Dorcas would stare at him in his ruby coach. The first thing he would do is take Cilla for a drive

his hair with his fingers and cleaned his nails with his teeth. Once he becomes Merchant Lyte s

Johnny started walking to Long Wharf wanting to tell Rab that he was related to Merchant Lyte.

Importance of Fear in The Lord of the Flies Essay
Importance of Fear in The Lord of the Flies
The boys in the book, The Lord of the Flies, are controlled by their fear of the beast. This fear is
not of the beast itself, but of the unknown. It comes from not knowing whether or not a beast exists.
The children start as one united group. They are a community in their own. Slowly, rules started to
get broken, individuals began to leave, and the group broke apart. The one thing that causes this
break up is the beast. The beast means different things to everyone, but each boy is afraid of it.
All of this fear starts at one of the very first assemblies when a littlun says that he saw a beastie in
the forest. Now he says it was a beastie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Remember?
The two older boys flinched when they heard the shameful
syllable (52).
This reminds Jack and Ralph that there is a chance that the beast is real and there may be reason
for all the fear. It also reveals that Simon s character is very much in touch with reality. He is not
trying to push the fact that a beast could be on the island away from him. He is trying to deal with
his fear and show the others that they can and should deal with theirs.
Ralph s concern for the littluns leads him to call an assembly to decide on fear (82). This
assembly on fear is an essential part of the story. Ralph wants to discuss the fear of the beastie, and
whether there is reason to be afraid of a beast that may not exist. He then proceeds to make this
speech:
We ve got to talk about this fear and decide there s nothing in it. I m frightened myself, sometimes;
only that s nonsense! Like bogies. Then, when we ve decided, we can start again and be careful
about things like the fire (82).
The purpose of this speech is to comfort the other boys and eliminate the fear. He wants them to
turn their focus away from fear towards the fire and rescue.
After Ralph puts the conch down Jack snatches it up and starts blaming the littluns for all the fear,
saying that they brought it upon themselves by believing in the beast. Jack is angry about the

retail industry is also facing very high competition and those who are able to retain their

Abstract Colorimetric assay is a process of determining a concentration of a solution based on
absorbance of light. The purpose of this lab is to determine if the Bradford assay is an accurate way
to determine an unknown concentration of two samples of protein. The Bradford assay is done by
measuring wavelength of light passing through a cuvette filled with Bradford dye and
concentrations of PBS and proteins. After the cuvettes are mixed they are placed into a
spectrophotometer to measure wavelength. The wavelength given will be used to plot a standard
curve based on concentration (x axis) and wavelength (y axis). The standard curve is then used to
measure an educated guess on the concentrations of unknown protein concentrations. We
hypothesized that if we use the Bradford assay and colorimetric spectrophotometry we can
determine an accurate concentration of two unknown concentrations of proteins. The results of this
lab failed to reject our hypothesis based on accurate measurements of protein concentrations. The
standard curves are drawn with a linear increasing slope. The Bradford assay is an accurate way to
demine the concentration of an unknown concentration.

The History Of El Salvador
The history of El Salvador begins with the time period in which indigenous peoples resided in the
country. According to Roy Poland, in Culture and Customs of El Salvador, El Salvador was
conquered by the Spanish in 1524; the spanish found the country was divided into three states (13).
The spaniards hegemonic influence finally converted El Salvadorinto a Spanish colony after
twenty six years of indigenous resistance(Poland 14). Such conquest brought violence, diseases,
and poverty to the indigenous people. The invasion of El Salvador by the Spanish also resulted
in mestizaje, racial mixing. The colonial period lasted until 1821(Poland 14). El Salvador finally
became independent from Spain in 1821 and joined the United Provinces of Central America in
1823; however, in 1840 El Salvador gained full independence (Eileen Garron Batres 6), One of
the most important crops in El Salvador during the 1800 s and 1900 s was coffee; during the 1900
s El Salvador was the third largest coffee producer internationally (Susan B. Hecht).
After colonization La Matanza Twentieth century El Salvador is made up of violence, suffering,

produced discontent amongst the lower classes. During the 1920 s this discontent grew because of
political abuse and increased poverty. According to John Chasteen in Born In Blood and Fire,

In my opinion, this depiction of the Last Judgment is beautifully rendered and very stylized.
The idea of commissioning an enormous fresco, the largest ever painted in that century, depicting
the Last Judgment, was probably suggested to Clement VII by the traumatic events that were
undermining the unity of Christians at the time. After the pope s death, on September 25, 1534,
and only two days after Michelangelo s arrival in Rome, his successor, Paul III Farnese confirmed
the commission to Michelangelo, and in April 1535, scaffolding was put up in front of the altar
wall. Even before its official unveiling, the Judgment became the target of violent criticisms of a
moral character. All that had happened in the church in the years that preceded the Judgment,
including the Reformation and the Sack of Rome, had a direct influence on the work s conception:
painted on the altar wall, the Last Judgment was to represent humanity face to face with salvation.
The first impression I have when faced with the Last Judgment is that of a truly universal event, at
the center of which stands the powerful figure of Christ. His raised right hand compels the figures
on the left hand side, which are trying to ascend, to be plunged down towards Charon and Minos,
the Judge of the Underworld while his left hand is drawing up the chosen people on his right in an
irresistible current of strength. Excluded are the two upper lunettes with

Analysis Of Imre Lakatos s Concept Of Research Programme...
Imre Lakatos was a 20th century philosopher of mathematics and science, who introduced the
concepts of research programme and the protective belt. It is evident that Lakatos ideas stem from
two other philosophers of science discussed in class. The first being Karl Popper, and his concept
of falsificationism. Popper suggested theories cannot be proven, but, rather, falsified. After putting a
theoryunder experimentation, if you observe results that conflict with the claim or hypothesis, then
the theory as a whole gets discarded. The other philosopher is Thomas Kuhn, who is known for his
idea of paradigm shifts. He said that after long spans of normal scienceand experimentation in a
given period of time, there will then be a sudden change in a way of thinking, which leads to a
paradigm shift, and progress in science.
Lakatos idea lies in the middle. He said that a theory progresses over time, and every succession
a scientist makes in the field of a specific theory, gets added to its hardcore. Lakatos calls this the
research programme; in other words, it is a chain of experimentation and progress in a specific
scientific realm. All of the scientists working in the same research programme form a protective
belt around the core. The purpose of this protective belt is to allow for experimentation and
research to be done, without destroying the hardcore when a hypothesis is falsified, unlike
falsificationism. When I think of the hard core and protective belt, I see the hardcore

In Big Two Hearted River, Ernest Hemingway used his own experiences he had during the war
and the issues he had when injured in the war. As soon as Nick stepped off the train the reader
could feel the disappointment that Nick had and the understanding that he was a troubled soul.
At the same time this was Nick s way to treat himself by staying close to nature and the simpler
things in life. No matter how happy Nick would get he would continue to have flashbacks of
things he has done and friends he has lost along the way. Throughout the short story by
Hemingway, Nick will continue to move through his problems from the war by camping and catch

For instance, Nick enjoyed watching trout in the water it was something he hasn t seen in
forever. He watched them holding themselves with their noses into the current, many trout in
deep, fast moving water, slightly distorted as he watched far down through the glassy convex
surface of the pool, its surface pushing and swelling smooth against the resistance of the log
driven piles of the bridge. (Hemingway 1925) Hemingway was explaining that Nick was using
this to help himself cope with things in life as an example of what Nick s wants in life or self
realization. Hemingway writes later in the story when Nick sees the big trout in the river and
decides not to go after it. Perhaps Nick sees it as the swamp is the misery in his life and the trout
is the feeling way down deep that he does not want to obtain until he is ready. It seems that
memories are the only hindrance that would keep him from getting closer to being fulfilled. The
next day for Nick went fishing Hemingway continues to describe Nick s groundwork for fishing
before he goes into the river. Once Nick had gone into the water Hemingway described the
feelings that Nick felt He stepped into the stream. It was a shock. His trousers clung tight to his
legs. His shoes felt the gravel. The water was a rising cold shock. Rushing, the current sucked
against his legs. (Hemingway 1925)

1. What is the purpose of interrupts? What are the differences between a trap and an interrupt? Can
traps be generated intentionally by a user program? If so, for what purpose? (Chapter 1)
Interrupt is that causes a computer processor to temporarily stop executing its current program and
execute another program instead, finally returning control to the original program. So it prevent
that more important task goes back because of less important task.
The main difference between a trap and an interrupt is where they are generated. An interrupt is a

п‚•a) Synchronous and asynchronous communication
п‚•b) Automatic and explicit buffering
a) Synchronous vs asynchronous can be called to blocking vs non blocking communication. The
benefit of synchronous communication is the simplicity and accuracy. However blocking may not
be necessary and waste time. Asynchronous communication allows messages to be delivered
without waiting. However this communication has less reliability than blocking one. b)
Automatic buffering provides a queue with in definite length; thus ensuring the sender will never
have to block while waiting to copy a message. There are no specifications how automatic
buffering will be provided; one scheme may reserve sufficiently large memory where much of the
memory is wasted. Explicit buffering specifies how large the buffer is. In this situation, the sender
may be blocked while waiting for available space in the queue. However, it is less likely memory
will be wasted with explicit buffering.

Romance novels are typically based in a set pattern and Karen van der Zee s A Secret Sorrow is
no exception. Meanwhile, in Gail Godwin s A Sorrowful Woman , the romance aspect is not
nearly as focused on. While A Secret Sorrow is a nice, easy romance novel, the short story A
Sorrowful Woman is a much better example of literature, and portrays a much more unique
message. The two stories differ greatly when compared by their theme, by the role of motherhood

They go by a set pattern of style and writing. They are usually written with non complex
sentences and often use cliched language and descriptions. For example, Faye is described as a
terrified animal (32) at one point, and Kai s descriptions consist of him speaking huskily and
being tan and strong. The story uses chiched and flaccid descriptions such as, strong brown

common in romance novels, with the hero in them usually being a tall, strong, and dark man,

however, is written in an interesting manner, the author choosing to omit names. The wife and
mother in the story is only known as the woman, the husband is only known as the husband, and
the child is only known as the child. While A Secret Sorrow has more bland writing, A Sorrowful

Social Pedagogy Essay
Social pedagogy
As an idea social pedagogy first started being used around the middle of the nineteenth century in
Germany as a way of describing alternatives to the dominant models of schooling. However, by the
second half of the twentieth century social pedagogy became increasingly associated with social
work and notions of social education in a number of European countries.
Social pedagogy is based on humanistic values stressing human dignity, mutual respect, trust,
unconditional appreciation, and equality, to mention but a few. It is underpinned by a fundamental
concept of children, young people and adults as equal human beings with rich and extraordinary
potential and considers them competent, resourceful and active agents. ... Show more content on

You also have to bear in mind that the young people might refuse to allow you to protect them
since they have been hurt in personal relations so many times. The professional pedagogue takes

professional reflection on your own and others practice enables you to evaluate on the progress you
have seen with a young person.
If we are to build trust and attachments then surely we need to be able to draw on past
experiences. For example our school life to allow the young person to see that many people have
had the same problems and that they do not stand alone.

A brief history of Social Pedagogy
Although pedagogy varies across European countries, there are similar roots that have developed
into differing strands of contemporary thinking in pedagogy. Hämäläinen explains that
historically, social pedagogy is based on the belief that you can decisively influence social
circumstances through education and importantly, education is seen as a life long learning process
that does not only refer to children but includes educating adults, for instance in order to change
their idea of children.
While philosophers of Classical antiquity like Plato and Aristotle discussed how education could
contribute to social development, social pedagogy in theory and practice only emerged through the

In the long run all lasting motivation is self motivation. In connection to this, the important
thing that mangers must maintain is understanding each employee needs and how they pursue
the fulfillment of those needs, keeping in mind that at all times all people are seeking need
satisfaction and that a fully satisfied need doesn`t motivate behavior. Once a need is satisfied it
s no longer a motivator, but the level at which it s satisfied must be maintained improved or it
will become a dissatisfier. This is precisely why a periodic pay increase seems so important to an
employee the increase that s granted does little or nothing to motivate the person to perform, but
if the increase isn t forthcoming then pay becomes a dissatisfier. From the above point what we
understand is motivating forces are of course largely psychological in their influence, so as long
as pay is perceived a fair and there s a reasonable sense of job security it should follow that lasting
motivation comes mostly from the fulfillment of psychological needs and little from material
rewards. In general, the most effective obtainable means of motivating employees are recognition,

appointed by the emperor replaced the daimyo. The population doubled and quality of life
improved. People moved towards a more urban lifestyle and by 1900, Edo was the largest city in
world. Nevertheless, in the midst of all the growth, the attitude towards women and their roles in
society remained stagnant. Japanese society treated women as subhuman instead of actual citizens
due to the belief that they were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women s roles were limited during the Meiji Restoration. Independent women were looked down
upon. They were not expected to maintain their own separate job (332). According to January
1842: Directive to the Wards , the only work suitable for women [was] sewing or laundry (1065).
If they do anything else for example, hairdressing, they were forced to change their occupation
(1065). In the event that they did have a job, women could not make a lot of money. In fact, one
instance in October 21, 1842: Injunctions to Farmers states that when farmers sought
employment and the wages increased, they said that the women were making too much money
(1117). In addition to lack of decent jobs, women were even prohibited from teaching men as
seen in the document April 25, 1842: Directive to the Wards (1090). This exhibited the idea that
men should teach men and practices taught by women to men were unnecessary (1090). This
evidence shows must always be in subservient role. She may never be above a man. The Meiji
Restoration was a time of trouble for Japan. Battles were fought and lives were lost. During this
stage, women aided by caring for warriors. In accordance with Yamakawa Misako s account, the
women s duties were to cooked rations, made bullets, and tended to the wounded (2721). They
were discouraged to fight, however. Women in battle looked bad on the country (2708).
Nevertheless, in a time of incredible need, the Aizu

Whether the issue is a continuing problem of significant...
Whether the issue is a continuing problem of significant importance to society, or a relatively new
and unheard of phenomenon, public attention and activism tends to follow similar patterns of
cycling attitudes and behaviors. As Anthony Downs explains in an article written more than 30
years ago, issues regarding the environment tend to suddenly leap into prominence, remain there for
a short time, and then gradually fade from the center of public attention. He calls this process the
issue attention cycle, one of the most intriguing theories regarding environmental public opinion.
Even though this article was written in the 1970 s, Downs theory contains crucial insight into what
is currently happening with public opinion about the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next two stages highlight the decline of interest within environmental issues, resulting in an
immense decline in euphoric enthusiasm. Thus, the third stage of the issue attention cycle is
realizing the cost of significant progress. This entails the spread of a gradual realization that the
cost of solving the problem is much higher than originally expected. More specifically, it would
take a great deal of money and resources, as well as major sacrifices by large groups in the
population. This results in a realization by the public that the problem is usually a direct result
from some extremely beneficial aspect of their lives. For example, smog and air pollution can be
a result from the increased use of cars, so not only would cutting down on how often one drives a
car decrease this pollution, but would also decrease in the advantages that owning a car contains.
For some people, sacrificing these advantages comes as no easy task, and most don t want to
sacrifice at all.
Hence, and as Downs so succinctly puts it, the previous stage almost imperceptibly transforms into
the fourth stage; the gradual decline of intense public interest. Essentially, and as more and more
people realize the difficulties and time

Examples Of Jane Bennet Marriage
Jane s marriage with Mr. Bingley breaks social traditions through the acts of indifference and by
overlooking the Bennet s ridiculousness. The eldest of all the Bennets, Jane Bennet, has a shy
personality and usually does not express her feelings. Mr. Bingley, wealthy with a kind
personality, is attracted to Miss Bennet since their first dance. During the time period of this book,
women must find lovers in order to marry and stay within social traditions. When Jane s shy
character seems to give off the impression of being detached in Bingley, Darcy immediately
intervenes. Darcy is the reason Bingley leaves Jane for months. In Darcy s letter to Elizabeth, he
mentions his reasoning for separating them: she receives his attention with pleasure,... Show more

Bingley, she is indifferent to him. Although this separation did hurt both of the characters, it ended
up strengthening their relationship with distance. Just like the famous saying distance makes the
heart grow fonder . The second instance in which they break traditions is when Mr. Bingley
overlooks the Bennet family s ridiculousness. We read about many different scenarios where the
Bennets do not have proper behavior. For example, Lydia, the youngest of the Bennets, has an
elopement with Mr. Wickham. This elopement practically disgraces the family name and Lydia
displays the ring like it is an honorable achievement, even though it is not something to be proud
of. A wealthy man like Mr. Bingley can choose any women in England, but he is only interested
in Jane. When Lady Catherine is roughly trying to convince Elizabeth to not marry Darcy, she
brings up Lydia s elopement: is such a girl to be my nephew s sister (338)? Lady Catherine does
not want Mr. Dancy to have such a ridiculous sister; it would disgrace her family. You could say the
same stands for Bingley, he puts up with all the ridiculousness that comes from the Bennets, instead
of turning the other

What Is Australia s Journey To Gallipoli
The journey to Gallipoli for the young Australian boys was quite an adventure but it had diabolical
consequences for some of them. In Gallipoli, Peter Weir explores the hard journeys the young
Australians had to endure. Because the soldiers hadn t any idea what they were getting themselves
into, when they arrived the repercussions were tremendous. The journey through Australia, to Egypt
and then to Turkey was not pleasant for the young soldiers because they were all so far from the
places they knew and it was such a long, hard journey. In the filmthe young Australians had a lot of
new experiences being so far from home and they also lost a lot of their innocence from being so
exposed to death and destruction.
Firstly, The film Gallipoli by Peter Weir shows you the journeys of what the Australian soldiers had
to go through. Because they had never left the country or been on a long journey, the thought of

The voyage was hard, long, and tiring. The soldiers spent many days walking through desserts,
hills and trenches. It started with Archie and Frank catching the wrong train and then having to
walk through the Australian outback to get to Perth where the boats leave to Egypt. They
walked under the beating sun for days with only the packs they brought and a small amount of
water. While they were walking you could tell they were exhausted because every step they took
they were rigid. Once they arrived at Perth and joined the Australian troops they then went to
Egypt. Egypt is mostly dessert so when they arrived they had to endure more traveling on foot or
horse back. Can you even imagine carrying close to a 30 kg pack on your back for days on end?
There wasn t much food and water to go around for everyone so some people had to go a while
without it. As the further they went away from home the more exciting the escapade went on
because they had no idea what to expect

The De Beers Mining Company And The Attawapiskat Community
The most important actors in the negotiation are the De Beers Mining Company and the
Attawapiskat community that lives in the area. Some other actors that may make an impact
during the negotiation can include the provincial government of Ontario, and the Canadian Parks
and Wilderness Society s Wildlands League. They are all needed to understand the main actors,
which are the DeBeers Company as well as the aboriginal community, as they can help explain the
context of what is happening and why each demand is necessary in the negotiation. Negotiations
are a game of chess and in order to win you need to have a good strategy and trying to counter
each other moves in order to become successful. It should also be noted that there are many... Show

As it was stated, DeBeers was attempting to mislead the public by only providing information about
certain water sources that they did not contaminate, but decided to hide information about the ones
that had various chemicals in them that were released. (Bridge, 2016) This is quite concerning as
mercury and methylmercury, which is a relative to mercury are both highly toxic, and can both
pose a danger to not only the animals, fish and vegetation in the area, but humans as well if it
builds up in the waterways. Their reports can be used not only with the Ontario government, but
with the company as well showing that they previously did not follow their agreements, allowing
the community to have a stronger voice during the negotiation process.
It should be noted that the Ontario government requested the company to self monitor itself and
report on the mercury and methylmercury levels near the open pit Victor mine, but the Wildlands
League reports otherwise and this is a concern for the community these events can happen in their
area as well. This also raises concerns with the government failing to provide proper oversight on
the company s operations. If the government sees that DeBeers did not follow their previous
agreement that they signed then this will mean stricter rules and oversight on the company. Plus
there will be harsher fines if they do not follow.

Essay On Girl Meets Rule
The TV show Girl Meets World in the episode Girl Meets Rule covers the topic that people need
rules to be civilized. It is also told that at times it can be OK to let be boisterous at the appropriate
time. Rules are a good thing, but too many rules can lead to too much unhappiness and despair.
With no rules things can turn out of control and lead to catastrophe. It s good to maintain a balance
between having fun, and having rules because there is a place and time for everything.
The episode Girl Meets Rule shows that Riley and Maya need each other to make each other
better people. Riley needs Maya to learn how to loosen up and not be so indulged in many rules.
Maya also needs Riley to learn there is a time and a place for everything and to be a little more
responsible for her actions. A balance between our actions is what makes us better people in life,
as to show that we can be responsible but loosen ourselves at the right time. Others believe that it
is incompetent to be a responsible person or a boisterous person, but in fact a person can be both.
If society had too many rules people would go against the rules and probably ... Show more content

off his handicaps and inspiring others to do the same. Going against the rules is not bad, but the
people who enforce those rules didn t agree and Harrison was killed just by doing something so
little. But no rules still doesn t fix anything because if a world had no rules it would turn into a

Brick Lane Thesis Essay
Female empowerment is what a patriarchal tries its best to dissolve, In the novel Brick Lane the
protagonist Nanzeen is part of the extensive amount of women who face this adversity but her
journey overcoming this is what makes this novel. There are many factors that give this
empowerment but the outstanding ones are , the romantic relationship with Karim , Hasina letters
and her friendship with Razia.
At the age of 18 Nanzeen is shortly informed about a marriage her father has arranged to man
named Chanu who is twice her age, this is something she does not want but doesn t protests it
because up to that point in her life there was little to no example of women she was surrounded

her hand, or not raising it, she could alter the course of situations in the world of which she knew
nothing‟ (242). The eclipse of Nanzeen empowerment is when Karim proposes marriage she is
conflicted , there is a genuine love she feels but knowing wrong it is in her religion to have an

Analysis Of Beyonce Knowles s The Black Essay
Summary
Black Lives Matter is a national organization striving to rebuild the Black liberation movement;
that has become vague in past years. In 2012 after Trayvon Martin s murderer, George
Zimmerman, was dismissed for his crime. This movement emerged in response to the
institutionalized racism within our society. Whether it s black on black crime, police brutality or
any form of ferocity actions its moral spurious. The past few months there has been a growth in
police brutality, resulting in the deaths of many, predominantly those of african descent. We focus
on how to improve the relationship with these officers in the black community and cease all racial
tensions. Beyonce Knowles is as an American singer, song writer and actress; who was born in
Houston, Texas. Throughout past years Knowles remained silent in the wake of racial tensions,
however she recently expressed her beliefs with the use of her music.
Context
On February 6, 2016 Knowles released a song and video known as Formation , endorsing the
#BlackLivesMovement and embracing her own blackness. Formation is an unapologetic message
that identified the roots and history of black power, as Black History Month approached. This music
video also gives her audience an insight that includes, imagery of the affects of Hurricane Katrina
and the evolution of black culture and femininity. This allowed her viewers to visually understand
the cruelty and immorality of police brutality; however, Knowles demonstrates the

The Republic of the Philippines suffers from widespread corruption (Jurado, 2010). This involves
different forms of dishonesty such as graft, bribery, embezzlement, backdoor deals, and patronage.
According to Iskyan (2013), even though the current Aquino Administration continues to exert
effort in dealing with this, challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, corruption and inefficient
budgetary procedures are still present. Based on the report of the US Department of State
Investment Climate Statement (2013), corruption exists in almost all levels of the government,
especially among high level civil servants. As an effect, companies generally have little confidence

Although it is true that justice must be served, it is always better to prevent this unfortunate
occurrences even before they begin. Prevention will always be better than the cure. Improvising a
solution to address this issue is quite challenging. By applying the principles of Week Three (3)
Lecture in lessening the probability of cheating, some problems in our government may be
answered. In order to shrink the fudge factor, people needs to think of morality. A simple statement
placed on top of every bill passed in congress saying As a matter of personal honor and dignity,
beyond selfish interest, and for the benefit of the common good, all statements below are were
crafted without bias and prejudice.... may help legislators to lessen their tendency to craft laws
vulnerable to cheating. Another subject that needs attention is the tax payment of the citizens. If
requiring a signature on the beginning of the tax report of every citizen is too much to ask.
Maybe, a checklist with statements such as, I shall include all my assets, liabilities and net worth
in filling this report , I shall honestly fill our all necessary information for the common good of the
Filipino people , requiring them to check this boxes before filing out the report sheet may somehow
prevent the people from writing false amounts. Curing this spreading illness in the country has no

  • 2. Hearing The Differences Of The Deaf Culture Hearing the differences According to the World Health Organization, there are 360 Million people in this world who live with a debilitating hearing loss. Hearing loss and deafness is more common than what it s perceived to be. Hearing individuals may view people with a type of loss as a minority. Every minority group has their story to tell. The Deaf have a very unique story, but they are not a minority group but rather a culture. Carol Paden author of Inside Deaf Culture defines a culture as a group of people that share language, values, rules of behavior, and traditions. The Deaf culture is unlike any other culture seen before and it differentiates from the typical American culture in many ways. The difference of this culture that makes them special is that they are a culture that has not been passed by residence, nationality, or percentage. They are a minority but they are not defined as a minority group. The Deaf defiantly don t have as many privileges as the hearing culture such as being heard and often being underestimated and discriminated for their disability. When examining the Deaf culture the idea of family has deep roots of communication, support, advocacy and self identity. Not every person who is deaf or hard of hearing is part of the Deaf term, which excludes him or her from the Deaf culture. Holcomb, Author of Introduction to American Deaf culture states that the term Deaf refers to an individual who uses ASL, identifies as a member of Deaf culture, and ... The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a program that employed millions of young, unmarried men on environmental projects during the Great Depression from 1933 1942. The CCC was one of FDR s most popular and most successful New Deal programs. It employed 300,000 men that helped plant over three billion trees, constructed nature trails in more than 800 parks around the United States, and shaped the national parks we enjoy today (History.com). The CCC s impact can be noticed everyday all around the nation. The book Hitch by Jeanette Ingold is historically accurate with its portrayal of the Civilian Conservation Corps. The CCC specifically targeted young men, providing them with employment, food, and shelter. These young men often sent money home to their families. Setting Of The Boy In The Striped Pajamas Pugsley 1 Ethan Pugsley Ms. Di Panfilo ENG 101 6 November 2017 How Setting Impinges Upon The Boy In The Striped The Striped Pajamas In many fictional works the setting can change the whole story in the blink of an eye. The Boy In The Striped Pajamas is a book set in WWII. However, the story is told through the eyes of a young, innocent german boy named Bruno. Bruno s family lives in Berlin until Hitler orders Bruno s father to move to Auschwitz to direct the camp. Bruno eventually meets and befriends one of the Jewish prisoners living in the camp. Specific parts of the setting such as the weather and the time period can heavily influence the mood, negatively or positively. Also, individual aspects of the character s surroundings can provide the basis for important events and/or twists in the plot. Character s thoughts, actions, and feelings can be developed with help from the setting. The setting of a concentration camp negatively influences the mood, provides the basis for pivotal events in the plot, and develops the character s thoughts and actions in The Boy In The Striped Pajamas. The mood throughout the story is very often negatively influenced by the setting of a concentration camp. The house in which Bruno and his family live at Auschwitz is small and lonely. The new house, however, stood all on its own in an empty, desolate place and there were no other houses anywhere to be seen, which meant there would be no other families around and no other boys to play ... Most children go through different adjustments to become comfortable with the fact that their parents are not together anymore. Children of divorced parents are prone to lifelong effects. Seventy five to eighty percent of children have divorced parents and twenty five percent of those children have serious social, emotional, or psychological problems for the rest of their life. Most adults think that it is best for parents to stay together for the sake of their child because having two parents in different households can become difficult for the child socially and academically. Parents value obedience as a favor when the child s actions conflict with the parents rights. Different parents have all sorts of rules for their child in different households. It becomes difficult for the child during a divorce because now they are needed to go by different rules in different households. • 8. I Read My Favorite Book Ever since I was little, I have always loved to read. If I liked a book, I would read it until I could barely keep my eyes open. However, I have never fallen asleep while reading a book I enjoyed. The first book I ever read was Ten Apples Up on Top by Dr. Suess and this book continues to be my favorite book by him. Other books I read when I was younger included the Five Little Monkeys books and later Junie B. Jones. The Five Little Monkeys books were enjoyable to me and I remember having this one amazing, indescribable feeling of joy while reading these books. Contrastingly, the Junie B. Jones book about the monster under her bed made me extra worried about monsters under my bed. When I was a little bit older, I read a book called The Mysterious Benedict Society, which was a long chapter book, unlike the Junie B. Jones books. The Mysterious Benedict Society is about a group of intelligent kids with different special talents that the Society uses to help save kids who are being mind controlled at a boarding school. Speaking of boarding schools, I also read the Harry Potterbooks when I was in Elementary School. My mom used to try to read the first book to me, but we would forget to keep reading it. Eventually, my sister read the books, so we watched the movies as she read the series. After a while, though, my parents told me that I was not allowed to watch any more of the movies until I had read the books, so I decided to read the books and enjoyed them more than I expected ... Whether I was singing, dancing, dressing up, or pretending to be a model on the runway, I wanted all the attention on me. When my mom put me into dance classes, I instantly fell in love with it, because the whole time, I got to do what I loved the most: perform. As the years went on, dancebecame something I was truly passionate about, and the lessons I learned from it began to change me. Those lessons and the ones I am still learning from dance have had a huge impact on me, making me into the person I am today. When I was little dance was a way to have fun and be a star, and I could show the big outgoing personality I had, but I became more reserved and shy as I grew up. Throughout intermediate school and junior high, I remained someone who was an introvert and strayed away from most social encounters. During this time, dance was something that allowed me to express what I was feeling, but without words. The few friends I had at the time had been in my life since kindergarten. Life was very comfortable and easy for me since I had lived in the same place forever. I didn t want anything to change, and the idea of anything changing scared me. What I didn t know was that a change would be exactly what I needed. At the start of high school, my family moved to a new town. This meant making a whole new group of friends. But how? ... • 12. Spring Awakening Play Theme Spring Awakening is a rock musical set in late 19th century Germany. It follows the lives of young teenagers (from fourteen to sixteen) as they navigate through the turmoil of their teenage sexuality. The musical contains some explicitly mature content and themes, such as sex, conception, erotic dreams, expressed desire for physical intimacy, physical and sexual abuse, hitting, ambiguously consensual sex, suicide, inappropriate language such as cursing, teenage pregnancy, masturbation, and death caused by an incorrectly executed abortion. The musical is based off of the play Spring Awakeningwritten by Frank Wedekind in the late 1800 s. At the time, it was written for the purpose of commenting on how German culture revolved around the purpose of oppressing young teenagers sexual desire and shaming those who were curious about sexuality. The controversial and, at the time, problematic themes were meant to act as a wake up call to those who forced ignorance of sexual instruction on their children. This is the reason for the significance of the setting, at the time Germany was focused on preventing children from becoming educated on sex. As the characters grew up, this setting was a catalyst for the tragic events that occurred in the wake of the children being poorly informed on sex, pregnancy, and the cause of their sexual desires. While the musical adapted from the original play does not contain the same social commentary, the harshness of the message is still evident. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Homework is defined as an out of class task assigned to the students to help with practice or prepare for the future. Homework has been around a long period of time. It has set and traced as a tradition of having teachers assigning work and students completing it. Parents say that teachers require it and teachers say s that parents demand to help their kids to finish it. Teachers assign homework to help some students improve their grade, pass course, re learn the subject you learn in the class, and pass the course for those of who do not do well on tests and exams. Can homework be considered helpful or harmful? This interrogation turns into an argument or debate between two reasonable subjects. Especially for the student s athletes or any students who enjoys after school activities, homework hurts probably the most. The assignments take away time, which could be spent on doing more productive actions or spend time with your family or may cause unnecessary stress. Parents, educators, students and indeed general public have all deeply divided over the homework issues for a while. In Judith Lorber s The Social Construction of Gender (1991) we learn how the differences among girls and boys are what society uses to shape gender roles. Young girls learn that their education is not as important as a man s they learn that their roles as mothers and looking attractive is more important even if they grow up to have the same positions as men. The differences that women and men face are a part of the process in which gender is socially constructed. How Much Attention And Nurturing Children Receive How much attention and nurturing children receive does, in fact, affect how they will develop as adolescents and adults in areas of personality, emotion, and social interaction. John Bowlby, a British researcher, a child psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, is well known in Psychology for his research specializing in parent or primary caregiver child relationships. His research influenced Mary Ainsworth who later became his research assistant and continued his research on attachment after his death. Being neglected as a child by parents and caregivers, he understood the negative effects of growing up lonely and detached. John Bowlbyfounded the attachment theory, an essential theory in Psychologythat reveals the negative impact of neglect and is now used as a reference to understand its effects. The theory is an important advance in Developmental Psychology because children were now viewed as vulnerable and need the care to develop to their full potential development. Therefore, methods of how to understand and interact with the victims of neglect were needed for professionals in the fields of medicine, law, and education. Being born into an upper class family in the 20th century, John Bowlby was a prime example of a victim of neglect. Upper class families often left their children to caregivers and seldom interacted with them, similar to Bowlby s case. This fear is not of the beast itself, but of the unknown. It comes from not knowing whether or not a beast exists. The children start as one united group. They are a community in their own. Slowly, rules started to get broken, individuals began to leave, and the group broke apart. The one thing that causes this break up is the beast. This reminds Jack and Ralph that there is a chance that the beast is real and there may be reason for all the fear. It also reveals that Simon s character is very much in touch with reality. He is not trying to push the fact that a beast could be on the island away from him. He is trying to deal with his fear and show the others that they can and should deal with theirs. Ralph s concern for the littluns leads him to call an assembly to decide on fear (82). This assembly on fear is an essential part of the story. Ralph wants to discuss the fear of the beastie, and whether there is reason to be afraid of a beast that may not exist. He then proceeds to make this speech: We ve got to talk about this fear and decide there s nothing in it. I m frightened myself, sometimes; only that s nonsense! Like bogies. Then, when we ve decided, we can start again and be careful about things like the fire (82). The purpose of this speech is to comfort the other boys and eliminate the fear. Bradford Assay On Unknown Concentrations Of Proteins Bradford Assay on Unknown Concentrations of Proteins Taylor Coleman September 27, 2016 Lab Group 3 BIOL 1111: General Biology Lab Fall 2015 Section 107 Chad Perry Abstract Colorimetric assay is a process of determining a concentration of a solution based on absorbance of light. The purpose of this lab is to determine if the Bradford assay is an accurate way to determine an unknown concentration of two samples of protein. The Bradford assay is done by measuring wavelength of light passing through a cuvette filled with Bradford dye and concentrations of PBS and proteins. After the cuvettes are mixed they are placed into a spectrophotometer to measure wavelength. The wavelength given will be used to plot a standard curve based on concentration (x axis) and wavelength (y axis). The standard curve is then used to measure an educated guess on the concentrations of unknown protein concentrations. We hypothesized that if we use the Bradford assay and colorimetric spectrophotometry we can determine an accurate concentration of two unknown concentrations of proteins. The results of this lab failed to reject our hypothesis based on accurate measurements of protein concentrations. The standard curves are drawn with a linear increasing slope. The Bradford assay is an accurate way to demine the concentration of an unknown concentration. The spaniards hegemonic influence finally converted El Salvadorinto a Spanish colony after twenty six years of indigenous resistance(Poland 14). Such conquest brought violence, diseases, and poverty to the indigenous people. The invasion of El Salvador by the Spanish also resulted in mestizaje, racial mixing. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my opinion, this depiction of the Last Judgment is beautifully rendered and very stylized. The idea of commissioning an enormous fresco, the largest ever painted in that century, depicting the Last Judgment, was probably suggested to Clement VII by the traumatic events that were undermining the unity of Christians at the time. After the pope s death, on September 25, 1534, and only two days after Michelangelo s arrival in Rome, his successor, Paul III Farnese confirmed the commission to Michelangelo, and in April 1535, scaffolding was put up in front of the altar wall. Even before its official unveiling, the Judgment became the target of violent criticisms of a moral character. All that had happened in the church in the years that preceded the Judgment, including the Reformation and the Sack of Rome, had a direct influence on the work s conception: painted on the altar wall, the Last Judgment was to represent humanity face to face with salvation. The first impression I have when faced with the Last Judgment is that of a truly universal event, at the center of which stands the powerful figure of Christ. His raised right hand compels the figures on the left hand side, which are trying to ascend, to be plunged down towards Charon and Minos, the Judge of the Underworld while his left hand is drawing up the chosen people on his right in an irresistible current of strength. • 29. Analysis Of Imre Lakatos s Concept Of Research Programme... Imre Lakatos was a 20th century philosopher of mathematics and science, who introduced the concepts of research programme and the protective belt. It is evident that Lakatos ideas stem from two other philosophers of science discussed in class. The first being Karl Popper, and his concept of falsificationism. Popper suggested theories cannot be proven, but, rather, falsified. After putting a theoryunder experimentation, if you observe results that conflict with the claim or hypothesis, then the theory as a whole gets discarded. The other philosopher is Thomas Kuhn, who is known for his idea of paradigm shifts. He said that after long spans of normal scienceand experimentation in a given period of time, there will then be a sudden change in a way of thinking, which leads to a paradigm shift, and progress in science. Lakatos idea lies in the middle. He said that a theory progresses over time, and every succession a scientist makes in the field of a specific theory, gets added to its hardcore. Lakatos calls this the research programme; in other words, it is a chain of experimentation and progress in a specific scientific realm. All of the scientists working in the same research programme form a protective belt around the core. The purpose of this protective belt is to allow for experimentation and research to be done, without destroying the hardcore when a hypothesis is falsified, unlike falsificationism. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the long run all lasting motivation is self motivation. In connection to this, the important thing that mangers must maintain is understanding each employee needs and how they pursue the fulfillment of those needs, keeping in mind that at all times all people are seeking need satisfaction and that a fully satisfied need doesn`t motivate behavior. Once a need is satisfied it s no longer a motivator, but the level at which it s satisfied must be maintained improved or it will become a dissatisfier. This is precisely why a periodic pay increase seems so important to an employee the increase that s granted does little or nothing to motivate the person to perform, but if the increase isn t forthcoming then pay becomes a dissatisfier. From the above point what we understand is motivating forces are of course largely psychological in their influence, so as long as pay is perceived a fair and there s a reasonable sense of job security it should follow that lasting motivation comes mostly from the fulfillment of psychological needs and little from material rewards. In general, the most effective obtainable means of motivating employees are recognition, respect, inclusion, fair treatment, and satisfying and fulfilling work than pay (money). They went through the process of defending against westernization and actively taking part in international affairs. During this era, prefectures appointed by the emperor replaced the daimyo. The population doubled and quality of life improved. People moved towards a more urban lifestyle and by 1900, Edo was the largest city in world. Women s roles were limited during the Meiji Restoration. Independent women were looked down upon. They were not expected to maintain their own separate job (332). According to January 1842: Directive to the Wards , the only work suitable for women [was] sewing or laundry (1065). If they do anything else for example, hairdressing, they were forced to change their occupation (1065). In the event that they did have a job, women could not make a lot of money. In fact, one instance in October 21, 1842: Injunctions to Farmers states that when farmers sought employment and the wages increased, they said that the women were making too much money (1117). In addition to lack of decent jobs, women were even prohibited from teaching men as seen in the document April 25, 1842: Directive to the Wards (1090). This exhibited the idea that men should teach men and practices taught by women to men were unnecessary (1090). This evidence shows must always be in subservient role. She may never be above a man. Whether the issue is a continuing problem of significant importance to society, or a relatively new and unheard of phenomenon, public attention and activism tends to follow similar patterns of cycling attitudes and behaviors. As Anthony Downs explains in an article written more than 30 years ago, issues regarding the environment tend to suddenly leap into prominence, remain there for a short time, and then gradually fade from the center of public attention. He calls this process the issue attention cycle, one of the most intriguing theories regarding environmental public opinion. Even though this article was written in the 1970 s, Downs theory contains crucial insight into what is currently happening with public opinion about the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next two stages highlight the decline of interest within environmental issues, resulting in an immense decline in euphoric enthusiasm. Thus, the third stage of the issue attention cycle is realizing the cost of significant progress. This entails the spread of a gradual realization that the cost of solving the problem is much higher than originally expected. More specifically, it would take a great deal of money and resources, as well as major sacrifices by large groups in the population. This results in a realization by the public that the problem is usually a direct result from some extremely beneficial aspect of their lives. For example, smog and air pollution can be a result from the increased use of cars, so not only would cutting down on how often one drives a car decrease this pollution, but would also decrease in the advantages that owning a car contains. For some people, sacrificing these advantages comes as no easy task, and most don t want to sacrifice at all. Hence, and as Downs so succinctly puts it, the previous stage almost imperceptibly transforms into the fourth stage; the gradual decline of intense public interest. Essentially, and as more and more people realize the difficulties and time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The eldest of all the Bennets, Jane Bennet, has a shy personality and usually does not express her feelings. Mr. Bingley, wealthy with a kind personality, is attracted to Miss Bennet since their first dance. During the time period of this book, women must find lovers in order to marry and stay within social traditions. When Jane s shy character seems to give off the impression of being detached in Bingley, Darcy immediately intervenes. Darcy is the reason Bingley leaves Jane for months. Bingley, she is indifferent to him. Although this separation did hurt both of the characters, it ended up strengthening their relationship with distance. Just like the famous saying distance makes the heart grow fonder . The second instance in which they break traditions is when Mr. Bingley overlooks the Bennet family s ridiculousness. We read about many different scenarios where the Bennets do not have proper behavior. For example, Lydia, the youngest of the Bennets, has an elopement with Mr. Wickham. This elopement practically disgraces the family name and Lydia displays the ring like it is an honorable achievement, even though it is not something to be proud of. A wealthy man like Mr. Bingley can choose any women in England, but he is only interested in Jane. When Lady Catherine is roughly trying to convince Elizabeth to not marry Darcy, she brings up Lydia s elopement: is such a girl to be my nephew s sister (338)? Their reports can be used not only with the Ontario government, but with the company as well showing that they previously did not follow their agreements, allowing the community to have a stronger voice during the negotiation process. It should be noted that the Ontario government requested the company to self monitor itself and report on the mercury and methylmercury levels near the open pit Victor mine, but the Wildlands League reports otherwise and this is a concern for the community these events can happen in their area as well. This also raises concerns with the government failing to provide proper oversight on the company s operations. It is also told that at times it can be OK to let be boisterous at the appropriate time. Rules are a good thing, but too many rules can lead to too much unhappiness and despair.
