Kwanz African American And Pan-African Holidays
Homework #2 Kwanza is an African American and Pan African holiday that many celebrate
worldwide. Many get it confused and try to think of it as African Christmas but in reality the holiday s
purpose is to celebrate life. Dr. Maulana Karenga is the founder and creator of the holiday. Dr.
Maulana carries a prestigious background with 2 PhD s one in political science and the other in social
ethics. He first introduced the idea of Kwanza at a festival in 1966. Kwanza is celebrated from
December 26th to January 1st.The purpose of Kwanza is for African Americans to fully embrace their
culture and represent it. The word kwanza originates from Kenya, its Kiswahili and translation of the

The Pros And Cons Of Inequality
Equality and justice are core values in modern democracies. Yet, we curiously accept massive levels
of inequality. In fact, there are numerous reasons why countries accept or even promote economic
inequality. In this paper, I will argue that everyone has a right to benefit from their own labour. And, it
follows from this right that governments should act against inequality only to raise the neediest above
a level of subsistence.
In Canada, the richest 20% own over 70% of total wealth while the bottom 20% own less than 1%.
This has important implications according to many experts, including epidemiologist Richard
Wilkinson. His research reveals a strong connection between inequality and social problems such as
mental illness, drug addiction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This argument has two sides to it. Firstly, that inequality causes major social problems. But correlation
does not always imply causation. The best performing countries on Wilkinson s index of health and
social problems, while relatively equal, all are measured as the happiest countries in the world with
strong community spirit. Inequality and social problems are likely to be symptoms rather than causes
of countries lacking this cooperative attitude. The second side to the argument is that inequality is
itself unjust. However, few philosophers would claim justice or fairness relates only to equality. There
must also be an element of need or merit. Some people are simply more deserving. Ability or
willingness to work hard contributes to this merit. Additionally, not everyone requires the same
resources to achieve the same standard of living. For instance, housing and transportation is likely
costlier for someone living in Toronto compared to suburban Ontario. In this sense, justice may not
only tolerate, but require

Comparison Between Curtis Hixon Park And Kiley Gardens
Looking at Architecture
My family and I commonly go to Curtis Hixon Park and Kiley Gardens, they are extremely family
friendly and very welcoming. The specific day I went to observe the parks was on Tuesday, July 25th
around 4 pm. I sat in the parks for an hour, analyzing the architecture and people who walked by.
From the time i sat on a bench observing I noticed many people walked by, all whom were from
different demographics. Curtis Hixon is a great family park, it has an open field and a playground,
which is equipped with modern toys that aren t typically seen in regular playgrounds. If you walk just
a step away from the playground there will be misty fountains, and at the front of the park there are
additional water fountains. In Front of the the park there is a gorgeous view of Tampa Bay, where you
will commonly see the crew team from UT or private boats just roaming around. The Kiley Gardens
are less busy than Curtis Hixon, but that s simply because it has different elements. The Kiley Gardens
provide a peaceful serenity on an elevated platform to easily catch a view of the bay. What is the
significance and value of the park and garden? Why is it important that they exist in downtown Tampa
s urban environment? I ll be answering these questions by firstly analyzing the architecture in these
spaces, second by looking at the atmosphere in the parks, and thirdly discovering their unique
qualities. We must ask the question: what was the architect trying to tell

Differences and Similarities of Ugo Foscolo s and Giacomo...
Discuss the differences and similarities of Ugo Foscolo s and Giacomo Leopardi s concept of human
existence through the analysis of their more representative works. The centrality of pessimism in both
Leopardi s and Foscolo s poetry is clearly due to the influence of Romanticism, the new cultural,
artistic and literary movement that was expanding in all Europe during the first decades of XIX
century and that introduces an alternative concept to the previous illuminist philosophy, based on the
disquietude and the dissatisfaction of human psyche that has to incessantly fight against illusions of
reality. The negativism on the concept of human existence is exposed in the poets works: one of the
notes in the Lo Zibaldone Dei pensieri , a personal diary full of Leopardi s annotations says: Il dolore

Impact Of Tourism On Economic And Social Development Programs
Tourism is integrated in economic and social development programs and can be considered as a
method to protect the natural and social capital upon which the industry is built (McCool and Moisey
2001 and Hunter 1997). According to Robinson (1999 cited in McCool 2002), tourism is viewed as a
tool which is sometimes might be important to a community and other times not so important.
Therefore, it is not said that protecting cultures for the value of the tourism industry, but for the value
to the people. The carrying capacity studies began during the 1930 s (O Reilly, 1986; Saveriades,
2000), they were principally developed in the 1960 s in the national parks of the United States of
America (McCool and Lime, 2001; Manning ., 2002).
Johnson and Thomas (1996) argue that present interest in tourism capacity is due to growth in tourism
combined with increasing awareness of environmental issues. The concept is particularly important in
the coastal zone which is undergoing rapid change as a result of demographic changes and
industrialization (see Kay and Alder, 1999, p. 21) in the context of global climate and sea level
change. In its broadest sense, carrying capacity refers to the ability of a system to support an activity
or feature at a given level. In the coastal zone, these systems can vary greatly in both scale and type,
and range from small salt marshes through large beach resorts to entire continental coasts. The
activities or features that they support are also varied and

The Land Registration Act 1925
The statement above will be thoroughly considered and discussed .To commence with it needs to be
established what a register is.
The Land Registration Act 1925 first presented the structure of registered land, but later it was
cancelled out by Land Registration Act 2002 due to reviews and room for reforms. There are three
main sections: property register, proprietorship register and charges register.
Firstly Property register, this describes the property (the nature), the address and plans which are in
correspondence with the actual boundaries of the specific properties and also third party rights and
rights which benefit the property.
Furthermore there is Proprietorship register, this consists of the class of title and any entries which
affect the owner s right of disposal such as restrictions which could hinder how the property is dealt
with. Restrictions will also be included in the Proprietorship Register found under S40 Land
Registration Act 2002 , this results in the restriction limiting how the registered proprietorship can
handle the land. It requires that a certain procedure is followed when disposing of the land
.Furthermore this coincides with overreaching, this is where the purchaser of trust land can take the
land free from the beneficial interest under that trust
Lastly Charges register, which contains charges, in addition to other charges that have impact on the
land, in correspondence with the land any covenants and third party rights such as

This is seen in Obasan in many different ways, the difficulties that the government creates, this causes

Naomi s attempt to receive vital information in her life causes her to have troubles dealing with
surroundings. Obasan s and Uncle s lives around her are marked by silence. When Naomi s mother
leaves to assist her Grandmother in Japan, Naomi has little or no information about the state of her
mother. When Naomi approaches Obasan and tries to get answers, the only achievement is Obasan s
silence. The family with the exception of the foil, Aunt Emily, has silence and inability to
communicate with others. When Naomi was sexually assaulted by Old Man Gower at a young age she
felt she could not tell any of her family. She did not make an effort to prevent it from happening again,
she relied on Stephen to come and rescue her but, he never did. This was learned from her family, they
never directly address the problem with one exception Aunt Emily. Naomi s attempt to live freely is
prohibited by her family; Naomi has a desire for knowledge and cannot fulfill her needs in that area.
While she lives with restrictions eventually, as she grows physically and mentally, she begins to gain
the knowledge she wanted earlier. While Naomi may be prohibited by the actions of her family, the

Sealcoat Case Study
4 Problems That Can Happen With An Asphalt Sealcoat For A Parking Lot The first impression you
make on your customers is when they pull up to your business and park in your parking lot. You want
to make sure that the parking lot appears to be well maintained, and one way you can do that is by
applying a sealcoat to the asphalt. The thin layer of sealant is designed to protect the asphalt and
extend its life, but it does not come without its own set of problems. An asphalt sealcoat can have any
of these 4 problems that you will need to address. Tiny Cracks and Spider Lines A sign that your
asphalt sealcoat is wearing thin is when you start noticing small hairline cracks on the surface. This
happens naturally over time due to the asphalt sealant breaking down. You may notice it more in the
actual parking spots, because leaking fluids from cars can speed up the deterioration ... Show more

Apply a new sealant at the early stages of cracking. Chipping It is common to see chipping if you are
located in a dry climate, and it will be more noticeable around edges of the parking lot that are prone
to becoming damaged. A little bit of chipping is normal, but major chipping is a red flag that you need
to reseal your parking lot. Chipping can occur due to the original sealant being installed improperly,
usually because the sealant did not have a high amount of adhesive content to perform an optimal seal.
This can easily happen if you try doing the job yourself and make a mistake in the application process.
Sticky Surfaces Since asphalt sealers use tar, you may notice that surface of your parking lot is sticky
when the temperature outside is very hot. You should be concerned if you have a long length of
extremely high temperatures, because the sealcoat can breakdown faster than normal. It may require
resealing earlier than you intended.

The Intersex Documentary Me My Sex And I

Essay 2
Human Behavior in Perspective Intersex is the general concept used for a variety conditions in which
an individual is born with genitals, or a reproductive system, that does not fit the typical sexual
anatomy of a male or female. The measurement of this norm, is considered as Phall O Metrics , which
decides what is the right size of a male or female s genitalia at birth by a scale of 0 5 centimeters.
Although there might be constraints to deciding whether the individual at birth is a male or female, I
believe that surgery to overcome intersexual conditions of a newborn, or even a premature child,
should be decided by the individual once they grow and develop to the appropriate age, possibly at
around of 18 25 years of age. In concern of moral rights, the own individual should have the personal
opinion or say over the doctors or parents. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once a child is born with divergent genitals, whether it is a clitoris or penis that doesn t fit the Phall O
Metrics , or genitals that do not look of a male or female with certainty, doctors will often suggest
performing surgery of the genitalia during the infancy of the person to make the genitals fit the
standards of a male or a female. These surgeries might be considered a possibility by doctors and
parents because normally they can be fearful of the appearance of irregular genitals. Also, doctors and
parents also believe that making the gonads appear more typical will prevent the intersex individual
from facing a gender

Bones season 7, episode 7, Prisoner in the Pipes originally aired on April 2, 2012. As the title implies,
this episode revolves around the body of what is assumed to be escaped prisoner that turns up in the
toilet of an unsuspecting family. The initially recovered remains are brought back to the Jeffersonian
where Bones and her team quickly determine the victim was male and the victim s eyeball has a lens

The study showed maxillary canines exhibiting significant sexual dimorphism and can be used for sex
determination along with other procedures. (Khangura, Sircar, Singh, Rastogi, 2011) This is not what
Bones said she used. The show implies that she used the broken bones of the sinuses, not the teeth
attached, to determine the sex.
Furthermore, the speed they were able to go through each step of the process of cleaning the bones
was unbelievable. Our text book, Forensic Anthropology, says it takes days even weeks to properly
clean bones using a very rigorous process of boiling, bleaching, and air drying to remove residual soft
tissue (Byers, 2011 p. 117). While I understand why they speed up of the process for television, it
leads the common person to believe that this process is quickly done. If it were ever to affect their
lives, they would not understand that the authorities are working has fast as they can. Also after they
cleaned the bones, Daisy soaked the clean bones in rose water to freshen them up and help Bones
relax. A forensic specialist would never compromise the integrity of the evidence to freshen them up.
Another huge issue I have with this episode is Angela s ability to produce evidence from what appears
to be nothing. Using minimal bones, she is able to digitally reproduce a full skeleton. In Figure 1, you

A Note On Macro, Micro Evolution There Is Important For...
First off, when talk about macro, micro evolution there is much falsehood about these two words, but,
understanding them is maybe the vital essential for comprehension the creation or development issue.
Macroevolution alludes to major developmental changes after some time, the inception of new sorts of
creatures from beforehand existing, yet distinctive, tribal sorts. On the other hand, Microevolution
alludes to assortments inside of a given sort. Change happens inside of a gathering, however the
relative is unmistakably of the same sort as the precursor.
According to Berkeley.edu, Macroevolution generally refers to evolution above the species level. So
instead of focusing on an individual beetle species, a macroevolutionary lens might require that we
zoom out on the tree of life, to assess the diversity of the entire beetle clade and its position on the
tree. Macroevolution includes the most amazing patterns and changes in development, for example,
the beginning of warm blooded animals and the radiation of blooming plants. Macro evolutionary
examples are by and large what we see when we take a gander at the substantial scale history of life. It
is not as a matter of course simple to see macro evolutionary history; there are no firsthand records to
be perused. Rather, we reproduce the historical backdrop of life utilizing all accessible confirmation:
geography, fossils, and living beings.

The Royal Forest And Bird Protection Society Essay
Introduction
New Zealanders take their environment very seriously. From their native birds (Kiwi, Takahe) to their
habitats (Marine, Forests). Non profit organisations have been trying for years with the government
and the community, to preserve and return the New Zealand environment to what it was before it was
touched. Before man or mammal was introduced to New Zealand, it was a haven for birds and reptiles
with no mammal predators. Now man and mammal have driven natives to almost extinction. It is
important that the government, community and local groups work together to preserve the
environment. In this report we will look at the different organisations in New Zealand that look after
the environment, the cultural influences that impact on these organisations. We will then address the
Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society and what they do and what they have done. Then we will
look at why it s important that the community is involved in conservation management.
What is a Non Profit Organisation in New Zealand and what Cultural Influences do they have?
What is a non profit organisation?
A non profit organisation is defined by five different standards.
1) Private this means that it is separate from the government institutionally.
2) Voluntary this means that the organisation must have a degree of voluntary participation. This can
be in either operation or management.
3) Non Profit distributing Not making a profit for their owners but rather putting the funds

Riot Grrrl Sociology
These three readings offer some insight into how music is not only used as a means of entertainment,
but in other ways such as self expression and as a voice for the audience. In Julia Downes s journal
article (The expansion of punk rock: Riot Grrrl challenges to gender power relations in British indie
music subcultures) she discusses and explores how the punk feminist movement, Riot grrrl, provoked
young woman and girls to stand up and rebel against the norm of culture, such as how punk was a
male dominated genre. Hector Qirko agrees with this thesis as in his article, (Consumer authentication

consumers react to recordings of Cuban based music and then analyzed them thematically. Theses test

Labor Unions And The Civil War Essay
Labor unions have existed in one way or another since the birth of our country in 1776. They were
created in an effort to protect the working population from abuses such as sweatshops and unsafe
working conditions. From the start of our Nation there were a few unions organized unions in a
scattered fashion, but many were disbanded after they had achieved their goals, such as when the
printers and shoemakers briefly unionized in Philadelphia and New York City in 1778 to conduct the
first recorded strike for higher wages. Three years later in 1971 the first successful strike happened,
when Philadelphia carpenters campaigned for a ten hour workday. This caused the need for skilled and
unskilled laborers to skyrocket during the Industrial Revolution and the Civil War and also got the ball
rolling with Labor unions. At this point in our Country, there had been nothing done yet for workers
rights, conditions, pay, and so on. People at this time saw that they could come together and do
something to make their lives better for themselves and their families. Many of these dates were
important in shaping our country s labor policies into what they are today. In 1847 New Hampshire
enacts as the first state to enforce a 10 hour workday law. In 1909 the International Ladies Garment
workers Union calls a strike in New York, demanding a 20 percent raise and a 52 hour workweek.
Within two days, more than 20,000 workers from 500 factories walk off the job. This largely

Public Policies Of The Canadian Government
Throughout Canadian history, a responsible government depended on the act of the nation working
together to apply appropriate public policy. William Lyon Mackenzie King, the prime minister of
Canada in the 1920s (and again in the 1930s) once said, Where there is little or no public opinion,
there is likely to be bad government, which sooner or later becomes autocratic government. This is
true even almost 100 years later. A democratic society operates in relation to the voices of the nation.
The Canadian government consists of many sectors to enforce this particular style of policy making,
including the House of Commons, the Senate, the Cabinet, and of course, the prime minister. Many
citizens may argue that these important sectors of government are aspects reflecting true democracy.
On the other hand, some citizens might argue that the prime minister has significant control over
Parliament alone, sometimes without the need for other voices. Government responsibility lies in the
heart of the prime minister and can have significant control over different policy areas if he or she
feels the need to do so. This often flies in the face of a democratic society. This paper will argue that
the Prime Minister of Canada has too much power over Canadian public policy because he or she
maintains party discipline, controls Cabinet ministers, and has power over what bills are passed in
Parliament. These factors determine that the Prime Minister indeed continues to control government

Essay On Humber Watershed
Alien species on the humber watersheds are a major ecological issue for the environment because they
prevent other native species from living/growing in their natural habitat. Alien species do this by
taking up physical space that native species need , preventing native species from reaching their food
and water and spreading disease. The humber watershed is affected in two different ways: native
species and the overall ecosystem of the watershed. invasive species on the humber watersheds have a
major threat to the biodiversity of our waters, wetlands, and marshes. These organisms that originate
from different ecosystems pose a great threat to our ecosystem because coming to our ecosystem their
natural predators can no longer keep the population s growth rate under control and that causes an

may occur. There are reports that over 185 non indigenous species were found Ontario s Great lakes.

Controversy Of Shakespeare
DeVere or Shakespeare?
Abstract: The debate over the legitimacy of the authorship of Shakespearean works has been disputed
for centuries. While many scholars have held beliefs that Shakespeare s works have been written by
figures such as Christopher Marlowe, Francis Bacon, William Stanley, and others, the most heated
debate today is between William Shakespeare and Edward DeVere, the Earl of Oxford. Each side of
this debate has many followers, the Stratfordians, or those who claim Shakespeare to be the true
author, and the Oxfordians who believe that true credit should go to DeVere. My paper, far from being
a complete analysis of the possibilities of Shakespearean authorship, attempts to summarize and

While the ideas of the true identity of Shakespeare have differed over the years in an almost trend like
fashion, a very popular idea has surfaced over the last century. The most prolific debate today is
between the Stratfordians, or those who claim Shakespeare to be the true author, and the Oxfordians,
those who claim Edward DeVere, Earl of Oxford, to be the true author.
The first question to ask in such a circumstance is why doubt exists. For instance, no scholars question
the works of writers and philosophers such as Montisqueu, Hobbes, or Locke. Why then, is there any
question as to who wrote Shakespeare? It would seem to most people that the name on the plays
should logically be the name of the author. Stratfordians claim exactly this fact as one of their
strongest arguments. The only problem with this seemingly simplistic argument lies in the spelling
differences between the man named Will Shakespere and the name written on the plays, William
Shakespeare (Whalen 8). In fact, the records of (Shakespere s) lifetime almost always spelled his
name Shakespere while the names on the plays were always spelled Shakespeare, about half the time
with a hyphen which generally denoted a made up name or pseudonym (Whalen 8). Such a slight
difference may seem insignificant, but for those who doubt authorship, this is a way of questioning the
very basis of Stratfordian claims that authorship is inarguable, and introducing the possibility of

Each One Teach One Summary
The purpose for recommending individual exercises, is to couple them with the African American
proverb Each One Teach One. This concept was created in the U.S. when an enslaved person was
taught to read or write, which was a privilege denied to many if not almost all, that their duty was to
teach someone else. This term is still used within the African American culture and is a great way to
emphasize the value in community cultural wealth. Moreover, this will allow individuals to enhance
their knowledge, understanding, and value of lived experience within the cultures of People of Color
so that Each One CAN Teach One!
There are ten exercises that individuals can do that will educate them with on the value of other

Reflection Paper On Golf Carts
As a teenager, hearing our parents tell us no to doing something enjoyable due to it being unsafe is a
huge heartbreaker . We seem to think we are invincible and that our parents know absolutely nothing.
January 1st of 2015, I learned that maybe, just maybe, our parents are actually looking out for us. We
should probably listen to them when they tell us to not ride a golf cart at 1 A.M. on a freezing cold
winter night. My day started off just as it usually does, I wake up and go straight to the kitchen for my
morning cup of hot chocolate. I knew that this day was going to be fun, it was New Year s eve. My
grandparents were having a family party that night. I have a very close relationship with all of my
family so seeing everyone together again was extremely exciting. We got to my grandparents house
around 7 P.M. Most of my family arrived earlier so, I went off to see what my cousins were doing. I
found them in the backyard driving rampant on my grandfather s new golf cart. I probably should
have taken this as a sign to not get on, but everyone else was doing it so I decided I should just do it
too. Our parents eventually told us it was getting too late and to come inside. After watching the ball
drop, My cousins and I decided to take my grandfather s golf cart for one more ride. Our parents told
us that it was too late, too cold, and we shouldn t be going. We had the bright idea to go against what
our parents had just told us and told them we were going outside to play basketball. We got outside to
find that the keys were still in the ignition from the excitement we experienced earlier that day. My
cousins, Blake and Hannah, got in the front seat while I got in the backseat along with my other cousin
Hillary. We started our ride off with a trip down the driveway and quickly picked up speed, way faster
than we expected. As we got towards the end of the driveway, Blake decided it would be a good idea
to make a sharp left turn. This caused the golf cart to flip. As we were flipping, I could see Blake and
Hillary jump off while Hannah and I were somehow thrown under the golf cart. Hannah ended up
getting lucky, only her ankle was caught under a metal bar and she was able to easily get out. On the

The System Of Criminal Trial Essay
4.6(2) Adversary system
The system of criminal trial as mentioned or directed by the Code is the adversary system based on the
accusatorial method . In this system the prosecutor representing the State (or the people) accuses the
defendant (the accused person) of the commission of some crime; and the law requires him to prove
his case beyond reasonable doubt. The law also provides fair opportunity to the accused person to
defend himself. The judge, more or less, is to work as an umpire between the two contestants.
Challenge constitutes the essence of adversary trial and truth is supposed to emerge from the
controverted facts through effective and constant challenges . Experience has shown that adversary is
by and large dependable for the reconciliation of public and private interest i.e. public interest in
punishing the criminals and private interest in preventing wrongful convictions.
4.6(3) Section 304 of Code of Criminal Procedure: Legal aid to accused at State expense in certain
cases:
Most of the accused persons are poor and uneducated. They cannot afford to engage lawyers for their
defence, nor do they have any legal knowledge and professional skill to safeguard their interests
themselves. Therefore, though the adversary system predicts equal legal rights and opportunities to the
parties to present their respective cases before the court, such legal rights and opportunities would in
practice operate unevenly and harshly, affecting undesirably the poor accused

I also filled the graduated cyliner with 5.0mL of water, and placed the same bolt under water, and the
volume increased to 6.0mL of water, which is a 1.0mL water displacement equaling the same (1.0mL).
It is also significant to tare the scale to zero when obtaining the weight of certain objects. For instance,
I had to tare the scale after I put a beaker half full of water on the scale; by doing this it keeps the
weight at 0.0g, then I submerge the object to retrieve the volume. Exact measurements are essential.
One must be aware of the upward curve of liquids in the graduated cylinder, and always measure the
low point (bottom) of the meniscus. It would be of good practice to measure at eye level, thus insuring
a more accurate and precise measurement. In addition, I had to make sure that I used the pipet as

Salary Caps In Professional Sports
Salary caps are a very important tool used in professional sports. All 4 major professional sports
leagues in the United States have a salary cap installed into their collective bargaining agreement
between the league and its players. Those four major sports are, the NFL, the NBA, the MLB and the
NHL. A salary cap is defined as s an agreement or rule that places a limit on the amount of money that
a team can spend on players salaries. It can be as a per player limit or a total limit for the team s roster.
It is basically put in place to help the small market teams stay competitive. It is meant so the wealthy

Aristotle s Claim That The Highest Form Of Life

OF LIFE IS ONE DEDICATED TO THOUGHT AND CONTEMPLATION
Introduction:
This essay is aimed at reviewing Aristotle s philosophical claim that thought and contemplation is the
highest form of life, with a view to explaining the veracity of his theory. Aristotle, like many other
philosophers wrote extensively on a variety of issues. His deep rooted conviction for a society based
on such theoretical foundation of thought, contemplation, reason and logic, made him explore the
perimeters of knowledge to advance the society on the foundation of knowledge. Most of Aristotle s
life was dedicated to the search for knowledge. Contemplation naturally brings about knowledge,
which is the base of discovery. For Aristotle, the life of unbroken contemplation is something divine.
It is the ultimate intellectual virtue, and it is the highest form of human activity. Like Plato s
postulation of the philosopher king or king philosopher as the ruler of society, Aristotle s theory of
thought and contemplation places premium on education, wisdom and knowledge as basis for
happiness, fulfilment and harmony. Socrates personally demonstrated this by staying in isolation at
some point to have the luxury of undisturbed thoughts, contemplation and meditation. The ancient,
medieval and modern philosophers gave a lot of time to this highest form of life, and this explains the
potency behind their prolific writings which has stood the

The Role Of Faith In The Screwtape Letters By C. S. Lewis
In the novel The Screwtape Letters, C. S. Lewis depicts how Christians have strong reason and faith.
These letters are used to contradict the bible as if god is satin and satin is god. Within the letters, the
patient is supposed to be a Christian man that is being used in an experiment for the dark side.
However, the patient resisted the temptations that the devil threw at him, and is able to beat the devil
by having faith. This is a strong point that the narrator illustrates, because Screwtape is considered like
a devil who is trying to influence his incompetent nephew, Wormwood. Screwtape is very wise, very
subtle and very experienced, his nephew is a less than stellar student when it comes to swaying a

It allows the patient to imagine that he is not being gluttonous for example only accepting small
amounts of food, he becomes sensual. This sin is cleverly masked by the small portions of food that
are involved. In addition, when the patient says, for example, All I want is a cup of tea... and the
teeniest bit of really crispy toast, the sin of greed is horrible and most of the time unnoticeable when
committed, because it is used to obtain exactly what one wants at any means necessary (Screwtape
88). Also, being picky is a way of hassling to others as it asks them to go out of their way in order to
make something perfect. Moreover, it could jeopardize friendships because perfection can never be
attained, and the disappointment of not getting their way could result in ill tempers toward others.
Furthermore, while gluttony of delicacy may be different than the sin of gluttony, of excess, it
produces querulousness, impatience, uncharitableness, and self concern, counteracting the attempt to
avoid sin in the first place (Screwtape ch17). Screwtape shows subtlety in encouraging gluttony of

Stem cells are at the center of a new field of science...
Stem cells are at the center of a new field of science called regenerative medicine. Stem cells are
unique cells that are unspecialized and have the ability to proliferate and develop into many different
cell types by forming more daughter cells, which become new stem cells or differentiate to become
specialized cells. They have the potential to treat diseases, such as Parkinson s, diabetes and cancer.
They may be used to rejuvenate organs, reducing the need for organ transplants. The discovery of
stem cells is a rapid progressing field in medicine and research. Stem cells come from several origins
in the body and are capable of surviving over long periods. They are most commonly; adult stem cells,

For induced pluripotent stem cells, viruses are currently used to introduce embryonic genes and have
been shown to cause cancers in mouse studies, which may be harmful for human. Embryonic stem
cells might trigger an immune response, whereby, the recipient s body attacks the stem cells as foreign
invaders, or fail to function typically. It is imperative for researches to clarify and tackle ethical issues
to ensure that the uses of stem cells are accepted by the community. It is important that scientists
pursue stem cell research while treasuring lives. Stem cell therapy advocates the reparative response
of diseased, dysfunctional or injured tissue using stem cells. Regenerative medicine holds the promise
of ways to repair cardiovascular damage and improved cancer treatment. Stem cells are used to treat
leukemia, some joint repairs and repair the liver. The adult stem cells used to treat autism comes from
the human umbilical cord tissue. The role of stem cell therapies has brought the success level of
scientists higher as they are soon to discover treatments for more diseases. Research on stem cells
continues to advance knowledge about how healthy cells reinstate damaged cells in adult organisms.
The potential for future medical use is promising because stem cell research is a highly engrossing
area of contemporary biology that is leading to a changing landscape in healthcare. However, much

subjects such as democracy, authority, and totalitarianism. She flew away to France in 1933, when
Adolf Hitler became Chancellor in Germany. She flew away from Europe to the United States after

This complete absence of thinking is what attracted the philosopher s interest and that is how she
started to question the problem of the eventual inner connection between the ability or inability to
think and the problem of evil. Hannah Arendt elaborated on the notion of banality of evil through the
case of Eichmann. She argues in Eichmann in Jerusalem that Eichmann, far from being a monster, was
nothing less than a thoughtless bureaucrat, passionate only in his desire to please his superiors. She
describes him in these words: the unthinking functionary capable of enormous evil who revealed the
dark potential of modern bureaucratic men . According to Hannah Arendt, evil would not come from
wicked individuals, but from the nobodies , from those who do not have the ability to think, and thus
cannot tell what is wrong and what is right. As she was influenced by the sociologist Max Weber, who
wrote concerning bureaucracies that It is horrible to think that the world could one day be filled with
nothing but those little cogs, little men clinging to their jobs and striving towards bigger ones , she
elaborates on the danger of bureaucracy and its possible responsibility when it comes to evil.
Bureaucracies assign very specific tasks to each individual and these specific tasks cannot be seen as
right or wrong by the ones accomplishing them, it is when they are all together that they can be
examined this way. Eichmann was simply obeying the rules,

The United States and Assault Rifles Essay
The United States of America was founded on laws to stop a single person from ruling the country.
These laws were later known as the Bill of Rights, which lists every living person s rights. On this Bill
of Rights is what is know as the Second Amendment which gives United States citizens the right to
bear arms. Over the years this amendment has been questioned by the government on how it affects
the safety of citizens. Safety is important and the new high capacity magazines could be a true threat

This design lead to greater and more powerful weapons to be used in the First and Second World War.
The weapons used in the World Wars were by far the most advanced of their time. The new weapons
produced three times the amount of firepower either sides of the Civil War could produce at any given
time. These weapons were feared by the citizens of the time. These new weapons consisted of the
Thompson, a submachine gun, which fired a .45 caliber bullet at high velocities. This rifle became the
standard fully automatic rifle for the United States Armed Forces. Though this weapon had a very
important role in winning the war, it was also used in various crimes throughout the United States in
the early nineteenth century. Does this make this rifle a bad thing to own? While some would argue
that the weapon was a threat to the public s safety, and while the others would say it was not, it still
fired at a high velocity which makes the possibility of multiple deaths more possible. This caused a
large concern to erupt among the public in large cities where mobs were becoming popular. It was
obvious that these new found guns would be great for protecting the public, however, it would also
come to harm them since they were falling into the hands of criminals. These weapons would never
stop evolving with years to come weapons would become more deadly and even more common than
the thompson would ever be.

At the core of the play the contrast lies between Mrs Kay and Mr Briggs and their respective
educational philosophies. Mr Briggs is more concerned that the trip, in which he had no part in
organising, should be an educational experience for the pupils and is appalled both by her attitude and
handling of the pupils. The characters are deliberately created as opposites. None of the other charters
in the play are created in as much detail as Mrs Kay and Mr Briggs. The language used by the pupils

  • 2. Kwanz African American And Pan-African Holidays Homework #2 Kwanza is an African American and Pan African holiday that many celebrate worldwide. Many get it confused and try to think of it as African Christmas but in reality the holiday s purpose is to celebrate life. Dr. Maulana Karenga is the founder and creator of the holiday. Dr. Maulana carries a prestigious background with 2 PhD s one in political science and the other in social ethics. He first introduced the idea of Kwanza at a festival in 1966. Kwanza is celebrated from December 26th to January 1st.The purpose of Kwanza is for African Americans to fully embrace their culture and represent it. • 4. The Pros And Cons Of Inequality Equality and justice are core values in modern democracies. Yet, we curiously accept massive levels of inequality. In fact, there are numerous reasons why countries accept or even promote economic inequality. In this paper, I will argue that everyone has a right to benefit from their own labour. And, it follows from this right that governments should act against inequality only to raise the neediest above a level of subsistence. In Canada, the richest 20% own over 70% of total wealth while the bottom 20% own less than 1%. This has important implications according to many experts, including epidemiologist Richard Wilkinson. His research reveals a strong connection between inequality and social problems such as mental illness, drug addiction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This argument has two sides to it. Firstly, that inequality causes major social problems. But correlation does not always imply causation. The best performing countries on Wilkinson s index of health and social problems, while relatively equal, all are measured as the happiest countries in the world with strong community spirit. Inequality and social problems are likely to be symptoms rather than causes of countries lacking this cooperative attitude. The second side to the argument is that inequality is itself unjust. However, few philosophers would claim justice or fairness relates only to equality. There must also be an element of need or merit. Some people are simply more deserving. Ability or willingness to work hard contributes to this merit. Additionally, not everyone requires the same resources to achieve the same standard of living. For instance, housing and transportation is likely costlier for someone living in Toronto compared to suburban Ontario. In this sense, justice may not only tolerate, but require ... • 5. Comparison Between Curtis Hixon Park And Kiley Gardens Looking at Architecture My family and I commonly go to Curtis Hixon Park and Kiley Gardens, they are extremely family friendly and very welcoming. The specific day I went to observe the parks was on Tuesday, July 25th around 4 pm. I sat in the parks for an hour, analyzing the architecture and people who walked by. From the time i sat on a bench observing I noticed many people walked by, all whom were from different demographics. Curtis Hixon is a great family park, it has an open field and a playground, which is equipped with modern toys that aren t typically seen in regular playgrounds. If you walk just a step away from the playground there will be misty fountains, and at the front of the park there are additional water fountains. In Front of the the park there is a gorgeous view of Tampa Bay, where you will commonly see the crew team from UT or private boats just roaming around. The Kiley Gardens are less busy than Curtis Hixon, but that s simply because it has different elements. The Kiley Gardens provide a peaceful serenity on an elevated platform to easily catch a view of the bay. What is the significance and value of the park and garden? Why is it important that they exist in downtown Tampa s urban environment? I ll be answering these questions by firstly analyzing the architecture in these spaces, second by looking at the atmosphere in the parks, and thirdly discovering their unique qualities. We must ask the question: what was the architect trying to tell ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Differences and Similarities of Ugo Foscolo s and Giacomo... Discuss the differences and similarities of Ugo Foscolo s and Giacomo Leopardi s concept of human existence through the analysis of their more representative works. The centrality of pessimism in both Leopardi s and Foscolo s poetry is clearly due to the influence of Romanticism, the new cultural, artistic and literary movement that was expanding in all Europe during the first decades of XIX century and that introduces an alternative concept to the previous illuminist philosophy, based on the disquietude and the dissatisfaction of human psyche that has to incessantly fight against illusions of reality. The negativism on the concept of human existence is exposed in the poets works: one of the notes in the Lo Zibaldone Dei pensieri , a personal diary full of Leopardi s annotations says: Il dolore o la disperazione che nasce dalle grandi passioni o illusioni o da qualunque sventura della vita non è paragonabile all affogamento che nasce dalla certezza e dal sentimento vivo della nullità di tutte le cose, e dell impossibilità di essere felice in questo mondo, e dalla immensità del vuoto che si sente nell anima ( the pain or the desperation that arises from great passions or illusions or from every kind of misfortune of the life is not comparable to the drowning that comes from the certainty and the strong feeling of everything s nullity and the impossibility to be happy in this world, and from the immense emptiness that we feel in the soul ) This view is ... • 7. Impact Of Tourism On Economic And Social Development Programs Tourism is integrated in economic and social development programs and can be considered as a method to protect the natural and social capital upon which the industry is built (McCool and Moisey 2001 and Hunter 1997). According to Robinson (1999 cited in McCool 2002), tourism is viewed as a tool which is sometimes might be important to a community and other times not so important. Therefore, it is not said that protecting cultures for the value of the tourism industry, but for the value to the people. The carrying capacity studies began during the 1930 s (O Reilly, 1986; Saveriades, 2000), they were principally developed in the 1960 s in the national parks of the United States of America (McCool and Lime, 2001; Manning ., 2002). Johnson and Thomas (1996) argue that present interest in tourism capacity is due to growth in tourism combined with increasing awareness of environmental issues. The concept is particularly important in the coastal zone which is undergoing rapid change as a result of demographic changes and industrialization (see Kay and Alder, 1999, p. 21) in the context of global climate and sea level change. The Land Registration Act 1925 first presented the structure of registered land, but later it was cancelled out by Land Registration Act 2002 due to reviews and room for reforms. There are three main sections: property register, proprietorship register and charges register. Firstly Property register, this describes the property (the nature), the address and plans which are in correspondence with the actual boundaries of the specific properties and also third party rights and rights which benefit the property. Furthermore there is Proprietorship register, this consists of the class of title and any entries which affect the owner s right of disposal such as restrictions which could hinder how the property is dealt with. Restrictions will also be included in the Proprietorship Register found under S40 Land Registration Act 2002 , this results in the restriction limiting how the registered proprietorship can handle the land. It requires that a certain procedure is followed when disposing of the land .Furthermore this coincides with overreaching, this is where the purchaser of trust land can take the land free from the beneficial interest under that trust Lastly Charges register, which contains charges, in addition to other charges that have impact on the land, in correspondence with the land any covenants and third party rights such as ... Sealcoat Case Study 4 Problems That Can Happen With An Asphalt Sealcoat For A Parking Lot The first impression you make on your customers is when they pull up to your business and park in your parking lot. You want to make sure that the parking lot appears to be well maintained, and one way you can do that is by applying a sealcoat to the asphalt. The thin layer of sealant is designed to protect the asphalt and extend its life, but it does not come without its own set of problems. An asphalt sealcoat can have any of these 4 problems that you will need to address. Tiny Cracks and Spider Lines A sign that your asphalt sealcoat is wearing thin is when you start noticing small hairline cracks on the surface. This happens naturally over time due to the asphalt sealant breaking down. You may notice it more in the actual parking spots, because leaking fluids from cars can speed up the deterioration ... Chipping It is common to see chipping if you are located in a dry climate, and it will be more noticeable around edges of the parking lot that are prone to becoming damaged. A little bit of chipping is normal, but major chipping is a red flag that you need to reseal your parking lot. Chipping can occur due to the original sealant being installed improperly, usually because the sealant did not have a high amount of adhesive content to perform an optimal seal. This can easily happen if you try doing the job yourself and make a mistake in the application process. Sticky Surfaces Since asphalt sealers use tar, you may notice that surface of your parking lot is sticky when the temperature outside is very hot. You should be concerned if you have a long length of extremely high temperatures, because the sealcoat can breakdown faster than normal. It may require resealing earlier than you intended. ... • 13. A Note On Macro, Micro Evolution There Is Important For... First off, when talk about macro, micro evolution there is much falsehood about these two words, but, understanding them is maybe the vital essential for comprehension the creation or development issue. Macroevolution alludes to major developmental changes after some time, the inception of new sorts of creatures from beforehand existing, yet distinctive, tribal sorts. On the other hand, Microevolution alludes to assortments inside of a given sort. Change happens inside of a gathering, however the relative is unmistakably of the same sort as the precursor. According to Berkeley.edu, Macroevolution generally refers to evolution above the species level. So instead of focusing on an individual beetle species, a macroevolutionary lens might require that we zoom out on the tree of life, to assess the diversity of the entire beetle clade and its position on the tree. Macroevolution includes the most amazing patterns and changes in development, for example, the beginning of warm blooded animals and the radiation of blooming plants. Macro evolutionary examples are by and large what we see when we take a gander at the substantial scale history of life. It is not as a matter of course simple to see macro evolutionary history; there are no firsthand records to be perused. • 16. Labor Unions And The Civil War Essay Labor unions have existed in one way or another since the birth of our country in 1776. They were created in an effort to protect the working population from abuses such as sweatshops and unsafe working conditions. From the start of our Nation there were a few unions organized unions in a scattered fashion, but many were disbanded after they had achieved their goals, such as when the printers and shoemakers briefly unionized in Philadelphia and New York City in 1778 to conduct the first recorded strike for higher wages. Three years later in 1971 the first successful strike happened, when Philadelphia carpenters campaigned for a ten hour workday. This caused the need for skilled and unskilled laborers to skyrocket during the Industrial Revolution and the Civil War and also got the ball rolling with Labor unions. At this point in our Country, there had been nothing done yet for workers rights, conditions, pay, and so on. People at this time saw that they could come together and do something to make their lives better for themselves and their families. Many of these dates were important in shaping our country s labor policies into what they are today. In 1847 New Hampshire enacts as the first state to enforce a 10 hour workday law. In 1909 the International Ladies Garment workers Union calls a strike in New York, demanding a 20 percent raise and a 52 hour workweek. • 19. Public Policies Of The Canadian Government Throughout Canadian history, a responsible government depended on the act of the nation working together to apply appropriate public policy. William Lyon Mackenzie King, the prime minister of Canada in the 1920s (and again in the 1930s) once said, Where there is little or no public opinion, there is likely to be bad government, which sooner or later becomes autocratic government. This is true even almost 100 years later. A democratic society operates in relation to the voices of the nation. The Canadian government consists of many sectors to enforce this particular style of policy making, including the House of Commons, the Senate, the Cabinet, and of course, the prime minister. Many citizens may argue that these important sectors of government are aspects reflecting true democracy. On the other hand, some citizens might argue that the prime minister has significant control over Parliament alone, sometimes without the need for other voices. Government responsibility lies in the heart of the prime minister and can have significant control over different policy areas if he or she feels the need to do so. This often flies in the face of a democratic society. This paper will argue that the Prime Minister of Canada has too much power over Canadian public policy because he or she maintains party discipline, controls Cabinet ministers, and has power over what bills are passed in Parliament. These factors determine that the Prime Minister indeed continues to control government ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay On Humber Watershed Alien species on the humber watersheds are a major ecological issue for the environment because they prevent other native species from living/growing in their natural habitat. Alien species do this by taking up physical space that native species need , preventing native species from reaching their food and water and spreading disease. The humber watershed is affected in two different ways: native species and the overall ecosystem of the watershed. invasive species on the humber watersheds have a major threat to the biodiversity of our waters, wetlands, and marshes. While many scholars have held beliefs that Shakespeare s works have been written by figures such as Christopher Marlowe, Francis Bacon, William Stanley, and others, the most heated debate today is between William Shakespeare and Edward DeVere, the Earl of Oxford. Each side of this debate has many followers, the Stratfordians, or those who claim Shakespeare to be the true author, and the Oxfordians who believe that true credit should go to DeVere. While the ideas of the true identity of Shakespeare have differed over the years in an almost trend like fashion, a very popular idea has surfaced over the last century. The most prolific debate today is between the Stratfordians, or those who claim Shakespeare to be the true author, and the Oxfordians, those who claim Edward DeVere, Earl of Oxford, to be the true author. The first question to ask in such a circumstance is why doubt exists. For instance, no scholars question the works of writers and philosophers such as Montisqueu, Hobbes, or Locke. Why then, is there any question as to who wrote Shakespeare? It would seem to most people that the name on the plays should logically be the name of the author. Stratfordians claim exactly this fact as one of their strongest arguments. The only problem with this seemingly simplistic argument lies in the spelling differences between the man named Will Shakespere and the name written on the plays, William Shakespeare (Whalen 8). In fact, the records of (Shakespere s) lifetime almost always spelled his name Shakespere while the names on the plays were always spelled Shakespeare, about half the time with a hyphen which generally denoted a made up name or pseudonym (Whalen 8). Such a slight difference may seem insignificant, but for those who doubt authorship, this is a way of questioning the very basis of Stratfordian claims that authorship is inarguable, and introducing the possibility of ... This concept was created in the U.S. when an enslaved person was taught to read or write, which was a privilege denied to many if not almost all, that their duty was to teach someone else. This term is still used within the African American culture and is a great way to emphasize the value in community cultural wealth. In this system the prosecutor representing the State (or the people) accuses the defendant (the accused person) of the commission of some crime; and the law requires him to prove his case beyond reasonable doubt. The law also provides fair opportunity to the accused person to defend himself. The judge, more or less, is to work as an umpire between the two contestants. Challenge constitutes the essence of adversary trial and truth is supposed to emerge from the controverted facts through effective and constant challenges . Experience has shown that adversary is by and large dependable for the reconciliation of public and private interest i.e. public interest in punishing the criminals and private interest in preventing wrongful convictions. 4.6(3) Section 304 of Code of Criminal Procedure: Legal aid to accused at State expense in certain cases: Most of the accused persons are poor and uneducated. They cannot afford to engage lawyers for their defence, nor do they have any legal knowledge and professional skill to safeguard their interests themselves. For instance, I had to tare the scale after I put a beaker half full of water on the scale; by doing this it keeps the weight at 0.0g, then I submerge the object to retrieve the volume. Exact measurements are essential. One must be aware of the upward curve of liquids in the graduated cylinder, and always measure the low point (bottom) of the meniscus. It would be of good practice to measure at eye level, thus insuring a more accurate and precise measurement. In addition, I had to make sure that I used the pipet as opposed to just pouring from a beaker or flask. This also guarantee a more accurate reading, accuracy

Aristotle s Claim That The Highest Form Of Life EXPLAIN AND CRITICALLY EXAMINE ARISTOTLE S CLAIM THAT THE HIGHEST FORM OF LIFE IS ONE DEDICATED TO THOUGHT AND CONTEMPLATION Introduction: This essay is aimed at reviewing Aristotle s philosophical claim that thought and contemplation is the highest form of life, with a view to explaining the veracity of his theory. Aristotle, like many other philosophers wrote extensively on a variety of issues. His deep rooted conviction for a society based on such theoretical foundation of thought, contemplation, reason and logic, made him explore the perimeters of knowledge to advance the society on the foundation of knowledge. Most of Aristotle s life was dedicated to the search for knowledge. Contemplation naturally brings about knowledge, which is the base of discovery. For Aristotle, the life of unbroken contemplation is something divine. It is the ultimate intellectual virtue, and it is the highest form of human activity. Like Plato s postulation of the philosopher king or king philosopher as the ruler of society, Aristotle s theory of thought and contemplation places premium on education, wisdom and knowledge as basis for happiness, fulfilment and harmony. Socrates personally demonstrated this by staying in isolation at some point to have the luxury of undisturbed thoughts, contemplation and meditation. The ancient, medieval and modern philosophers gave a lot of time to this highest form of life, and this explains the potency behind their prolific writings which has stood the ... These letters are used to contradict the bible as if god is satin and satin is god. Within the letters, the patient is supposed to be a Christian man that is being used in an experiment for the dark side. However, the patient resisted the temptations that the devil threw at him, and is able to beat the devil by having faith. This is a strong point that the narrator illustrates, because Screwtape is considered like a devil who is trying to influence his incompetent nephew, Wormwood. This sin is cleverly masked by the small portions of food that are involved. Also, being picky is a way of hassling to others as it asks them to go out of their way in order to make something perfect. Moreover, it could jeopardize friendships because perfection can never be attained, and the disappointment of not getting their way could result in ill tempers toward others. Furthermore, while gluttony of delicacy may be different than the sin of gluttony, of excess, it produces querulousness, impatience, uncharitableness, and self concern, counteracting the attempt to avoid sin in the first place (Screwtape ch17). This complete absence of thinking is what attracted the philosopher s interest and that is how she started to question the problem of the eventual inner connection between the ability or inability to think and the problem of evil. Hannah Arendt elaborated on the notion of banality of evil through the case of Eichmann. She argues in Eichmann in Jerusalem that Eichmann, far from being a monster, was nothing less than a thoughtless bureaucrat, passionate only in his desire to please his superiors. She describes him in these words: the unthinking functionary capable of enormous evil who revealed the dark potential of modern bureaucratic men . According to Hannah Arendt, evil would not come from wicked individuals, but from the nobodies , from those who do not have the ability to think, and thus cannot tell what is wrong and what is right. As she was influenced by the sociologist Max Weber, who wrote concerning bureaucracies that It is horrible to think that the world could one day be filled with nothing but those little cogs, little men clinging to their jobs and striving towards bigger ones , she elaborates on the danger of bureaucracy and its possible responsibility when it comes to evil. Bureaucracies assign very specific tasks to each individual and these specific tasks cannot be seen as right or wrong by the ones accomplishing them, it is when they are all together that they can be examined this way. While some would argue that the weapon was a threat to the public s safety, and while the others would say it was not, it still fired at a high velocity which makes the possibility of multiple deaths more possible.
