Essay on Partisan elections
Partisan Elections
In the following essay I will be talking about the disadvantages and advantages of partisan elections
for state politics. I will also examine the last couple year s election results and costs. Finally, I will
discuss if partisanship made a difference in the vote, as well as if a judge should be decided by
partisan vote. In the next couple paragraphs I will talk more specifically about these topics.
First, let s talk about the advantages of partisan elections compared to nonpartisan elections. It makes
voting a lot faster because the people can just go to either democrat, republican or independent
column. They do not have to go through a big list of candidates ... Show more content on

Secondly, I will now talk about the disadvantages of having a partisan election. First, partisan
elections cost a lot more money than nonpartisan elections, because in nonpartisan elections you do
not have to campaign. The voters must do their own research on the candidates and makes the voter
actually think and know why they are going to vote. A bad thing about this though would be time. Not
everybody has time to go out and do research on candidates, because most people work eight or more
hour shifts at work and then they do not want to go out and do research. Another disadvantage would
be I think there is too much information out there for the candidates, which ends up confusing the
voter instead of benefiting. This makes it harder when coming to vote, so many people will just mark
anything because they do not care. These would be one the biggest disadvantages of partisan elections
to me in state politics.
I will now examine some of last election year s results. Voter turnout has decreased in the past years.
There are two main factors that have been coming up in the past years. First, many citizens say that
who is elected in office is not as important as it once was. Secondly, younger Americans are more
cynical and disconnected from politics than ever. I think there is too much information out there and
another thing that might be the reason this is happening is

Chemicals in Our Tap Water Earth, the only known planet with life, seems to revolve around many
things in todays society. Money, land, precious metal, all seems to make the world go around, but in
all reality, Earth would just be another planet without one sole resource, water. The food we eat and
the air we breathe all seem to be dependent. Over the centuries, we have learned much about the
molecular structure, physical and chemical properties, and so on. We have been able to harness its
great power, and we have made the consumption a much quicker process through the idea of city
water or tap water. The concept of tap water has been around since about 3000 B.C. in Mesopotamia

A choice few companies will eventually obtain a monopoly on life, by instilling the thought of buying

impurities that we consume every day. There are a choice few men in this nation that seem to manage
what is available to the masses, the same goes for our water. The DEPA, or the Department of
Environmental Protection Agency overseas additives in our water on a national level. The DEPA is
part of the Presidents cabinet, meaning he goes to the DEPA for advice on anything their agency
oversees. The public drinking water systems regulated by EPA, and delegated states and tribes,
provide drinking water to 90 percent of Americans (DEPA). So what exactly does the department
regulate? Depending on the amount of water in a public water system, they allow a certain amount of
toxins per gallon of water. The EPA allows a certain amount of toxins because the cost for the mass
making, distribution, and use of pure water would be too high. Likewise, it is nearly impossible to
have such large piping systems and distribution and offer a completely clean, unadulterated water.
While there are standards in place for the maximum amount of contaminants allowed in water, none of
these levels are at zero. Meaning, that there are dangerous toxins in the

Thomas Jefferson s Monticello
Monticello was the primary plantation of Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States,
who began designing and building Monticello at age 26 after inheriting land from his father. Located
just outside Charlottesville, Virginia, in the Piedmont region, the plantation was originally 5,000 acres,
with Jefferson using slaves for extensive cultivation of tobacco and mixed crops, later shifting from
tobacco cultivation to a wheat in response to changing markets. Jefferson designed the main house at
the plantation, also called Monticello, initially using neoclassical design principles described by
Italian Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio, subsequently reworking the design through much of his
presidency to include design elements ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During his several years in Europe, he had an opportunity to see some of the classical buildings with
which he had become acquainted from his reading, as well as to discover the modern trends in French
architecture that were then fashionable in Paris. His decision to remodel his own home may date from
this period. In 1794, following his service as the first U.S. Secretary of State (1790 93), Jefferson
began rebuilding his house based on the ideas he had acquired in Europe. The remodeling continued
throughout most of his presidency (1801 09). Although generally completed by 1809, Jefferson
continued work on the present structure until his death in 1826. Jefferson added a center hallway and a
parallel set of rooms to the structure, more than doubling its area. He removed the second full height
story from the original house and replaced it with a mezzanine bedroom floor. The interior is centered
on two large rooms, which served as an entrance hall museum, where Jefferson displayed his scientific
interests, and a music sitting room. The most dramatic element of the new design was an octagonal
dome, which he placed above the west front of the building in

The Pros And Cons Of Black Ghettos
With the abundance of government programs available to the ghettos are often misused and of course
are abused by those trying to avoid working or by others who really do not need such services. With
those problems plentiful the government should enforce a checks and balances program to make sure
such programs are not abused and if so penalize the abusers by reducing benefits, force persuade them
to return to work, or cut them off from benefits immediately which would seem very harsh for their
families as well as the abuser. So basically it is a Catch 22 when it comes down to government
assisted programs. These are just a few issues that can influence an outsider s view of ghettos but then
when one hears the word ghettos they have their own preconceived notion what ghettos are and what
they should look like along with how the people would behave as well. Of course the influence varies
according to the observers perception and beliefs especially if the explanations about black ghettos
have been liberal bias. For example Duneier said From a conservative s perspective, such explanations
are unsatisfying because they leave little room for the black community to take responsibility for
problems and pathologies and instead lay almost all blame on whites. (Duneier, 2017, p. 230). For this
reason that many blacks believe that their problems are the fault of the whites and vice versa. When in
fact it is the individual themselves that bring on their own problems whether

Being wealthy comes with many privileges that are often taken for granted. For example, children
born into a higher economic class are exposed to exceptional schools, job opportunities, and luxuries
of life that lower class citizens and minority groups only dream of having. Opportunities such as these
may seem harmless and even beneficial on the surface, but having a constant upper hand on things can
lead to a false sense of power and entitlement. People of wealth can often buy their way out of
detrimental situations, including consequences for unlawful activities. Members of these opulent
families start to believe that they are above the law and see no repercussions for crimes that they

Beowulf Is Most Important Pieces Of English Literature
Beowulf is one of the most important pieces of English literature. The epic poem is said to be a great
representation of the Anglo Saxon era. Written by an anonymous monk between 800 and 1000 A.D.,
Beowulf displays Anglo Saxon practices, beliefs, values, and religion. Beowulf is not only a
fascinating story, but also a primary source for the time period. Serving as a primary source document,
scholars can have a deep understanding of the Anglo Saxon culture. They can learn about the Old
English language, their customs and beliefs, and what they valued. This is why Beowulf is one of the
most important pieces of English literature. Even though Beowulf serves as a primary document, it
still, however, has a mystery behind it. Some of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Christians believe in one all powerful, all knowing God. Their source of wisdom is from the Holy
Bible, which was, at the time, only copied and written by monks. Christians value brotherly love,
forgiveness, the love of God, and other various things. In contrast of paganism, Christians view
treasure as one of the seven deadly sins because hoarding it leads to greed. Although, similar to
paganism, Christians value sharing. They believe it is good to share one s fortune to those less
fortunate than themselves. Doing such a task gives them a sense of good morals and the grace of God.
Certainly Christian and pagan beliefs are both represented in Beowulf. Based on what the world
knows, Beowulf was written by an anonymous monk. At the time, England was converted to
Christianity. The world, however, does not know why there are Christian connections in Beowulf. The
biggest conspiracy is the monk wanted to blend Christian customs with the Anglo Saxon s, so there
was not a threat to convert people by force. Many scholars believe that Christians had done this
centuries before the epic poem was written. Although, for a brief moment, paganism was briefly
mentioned in Beowulf. Sometimes at pagan shrines they vowed offerings to idols, swore oaths that the
killer of souls might come to their aid and save their people. That was their way, their heathenish
hope; deep in their hearts they remembered

How Does Harriet Beecher Stowe Use Propaganda
On a superficial level, Uncle Tom s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe is a fictitious, narrative about
slavery. Yet, the truth is that the novel is filled with propaganda. A narrator, Stowe, breaks the third
wall to directly address the issues of slavery with the reader. The novel ends with revelatory remarks
that there can be no possible justification for owning slaves, and beyond the condemnation, action
needs to be taken to end the horrible enterprise. Beyond direct statement through the narrator and
characters, the characters themselves hold a type of persuasions in their actions and thoughts. This
novel is more than just a casual read. There can be no mistake, the novel is a form of propaganda with
the ultimate goal of influencing its readers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author s white, female characters act as an example for her white, female readers to model
themselves after. This argument is more than go out and vote or start protests, because those methods
of change are not a reasonable expectation for a group of people whose role is to be polite, hospitable,
and demure. Thus, the methods the women are expected to take are indirect by being more subtle and
persuasive instead of direct and confrontational. Subtlety and persuasion are demonstrated by the
female characters, Mrs. Emily Shelby and Mrs. Mary Bird. Mrs. Shelby used her subtlety to throw off
the plans of the slave trader and allowing her slaves to escape. She slyly suggests to her slaves take
their time in collecting the horses, before then offering her guest dinner and pushing back the time for
eating, because the meal is supposedly not suitable enough for guests. Mrs. Bird discusses her opinion
on slavery and fugitive slave laws with her husband in a very womanly manner, respectful and
persuasive, in a successful attempt to convince him to take an abolitionist stance in his job as senator.
Both Mrs. Shelby and Mrs. Bird are able to receive their desired results by working within their role
as women. Even though they are not taking a direct action of fighting slavery, they are still making a
difference just through different means. These fictional women are embracing their hidden power of
their gender and acting as examples for the real life

The Hrm Function Of Job Analysis
Executive Summary
This essay is basically focused on the telecommunication company Telstra s business objective, which
was set up by the CEO Solomon Trujillo of downsizing 10,000 non core and redundant jobs roles.
Furthermore, by the integrated HRM functions which are job analysis, job design, compensation
management industrial relations, the objective was achieved by the CEO of the company by the end of
the year 2008. During his tenure he achieved the target, although the market value the share price of
the company was 25% lower than the previous years.
Introduction
It is the objective of this essay to critically analyze how four HRM strategies are integrated to enable
Telstra to downsize 10,000 jobs.
Firstly, this essay will critically analyze how the HRM function of job analysis is integrated to assist to
identify duplicated job roles to be targeted for downsizing. The purpose of this paragraph is to
critically discuss how the HRM function of job analysis is used by the HR department of Telstra to
identify the duplicated job roles responsibilities after the appointment of its CEO Solomon Trujillo
during the year 2004 2008. De Cieri (2007) highlights that work dissection has concentrated on
breaking down the current employments to accumulate data for other human asset administration
practices, for example, choice, worker improvement, performance management and compensation.

Analysis Of Fantasy Sports
Before we determine if fantasy sports are luck or skills based let s analyze the set up. First, you
deposit a minimum of $25 and play contests. Before you make your draft of an eight player team you
will be given a $60,000 salary cap. This will restrict you from picking eight of the highest players like
Russell Westbrook and James harden who cost upwards of $12,000 each, living you with players that
have average cost of $4000 each. A player like James Harden usually consistently drops 60 fantasy
points a night while a player that costs $3000 will not even play and a player that costs $5,000
averages about 20 fantasy points but will give you 30 and 10 the next night, thus not dependable. In
addition, all of this information is available once ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The other ways draftkings has leveled the playing field is by offering different competitions. For
example, the top players usually play the contest with the biggest rewards. This contests are usually a
$3 entry where the winner takes home half a million dollars and the second place person gets like
250k, 3rd gets like 100k and so on. The prizes are top heavy meaning only like 20% of the contestants
win. In addition, this contest allow multiple entries so the winner could be first though fifteen with the
same lineup. On average while playing cash games you usually expect to double your entry with a
decent lineup. Cash games that hand out millions of dollars are more luck than skill because you re
competing against thousands of people but there is more to draftkings than cash

Sigmund Freud s Theory Of Psychoanalysis Essay
Freud s theological perspective was termed Psychoanalysis. Freud believed people unconsciously
repressed information, and that this hidden information was the cause of their distress. The
unconscious is the space in your brain where thoughts, feelings, and desires are tucked away, and
cannot be readily drawn upon and available to the conscious mind. Because 99% of this methodology
is dealing with the unconscious, Freud believed that success could not be reached by the individual
alone, rather they need someone trained in the ways of Psychoanalysis to help them. In contrast, the
conscious mind is all of the things we are thinking and feeling now; it is information that is easily
accessible to us. There is also this idea of a preconscious, where while we are not currently thinking of
that information, if we want it, it is there and can be pulled up when we are ready to attend to it.
Psychotherapy was often a many year process where various methods and theories within his theory of
Psychoanalysis were considered and practiced. One of these theories is that of psychosexual
development.
Psychosexual Development
As one grows and develops it is often times clear they pass through difference stages of development;
for Freud, his focus was psychosexual development. This term refers to how sexual energy, libido, is
found and focused on different parts of the body throughout development. There are five of these
Freudian psychosexual stages, including oral, anal, phallic, latency, and

The Patterns Of Teen Drug Abuse
A pattern that we ve seen erupt over the last couple of years is the habit of teenagers and young adults
falling prey to party drugs, there s been a sense of normalcy placed along with a pill popping culture,
you ll notice rappers almost romanticizing and influencing teenagers into experimenting with
prescription drugs. What most people don t take into consideration before consuming these drugs is
that most prescription opioids have addictive side effects, that when taken in long term or copious
amounts can cause the user to experience withdrawals and ultimately draw them back in a continuous
cycle. Most would say, why can t they just not take the drugs? Or claim it was the users fault because
they know better. While they are not entirely right, it s not wrong either. Research shows that a large
majority of teens will find themselves in a position where they will be offered drugs before the age of
14 at a party, this decision will ultimately affect their life in the long run, be it becoming a social
outcast from their peers for not trying these drugs, or taking them and developing an addiction that
will surely harm their bodies before they ve truly became adults.
Teen drug overdose is an issue that dates back over multiple generations, with each finding their own
ways to get recreational highs. However, there was a significant increase in death from years 1999 to
2007 within age groups 15 19(1). As time goes on, higher percentages of teens experiment with

sacrifice with a heroic color of red. At the same time, this striking color implied her difference from
everyone else as a non jewish volunteer . Thirdly, by observing other prisoners in the room Guido and
Joshua were in, they eventually decreased implying deaths were always happening. This strongly
contrasted with Joshua s innocent views of the camp built and protected by the great love of Guido.
Also their dirty uniforms and skinny figures showed the brutal life they were going through. Guido
was samely suffering, but he acted positively and fully enthusiastically whenever talking to Joshua,
this strongly showed the his love.
The narrative elements of foreshadowing and characterization successfully made the story movingly
tragic and powerful, which conveyed the themes of love and innocence through the vivid characters.

Hurricanes And Its Impact On The United States
Hurricanes have affected the Caribbean islands for many centuries but particularly in the 19th century.
During the 1840 s Cuba was affected by three hurricanes that all happened within four years of each
other in 1842, 1844, and 1846. Many scholars have looked over these hurricanes in Cuba as not really
having much of an in depth affect on Cuba s life and history but just as being hurricanes. But Louis A.
Pérez Jr. a professor and scholar, labeled these 19th century hurricanes as a flash point to look at Cuba
s history from multiple angles. saw the 1842, 1844, and 1846 hurricanes as being more than just
storms by using multiple resources like the Archivo Nacional de Cubaa, Havana, encyclopedias, such
as the Encyclopedia of Hurricanes, Typhoons, and Cyclones by David Longshore (New York, 1998),
and descriptive chronologies by David L. Niddrie and David M. Ludlow to name a few. By reviewing
and using all of these resources, Louis A. Pérez concluded that the 1840 s hurricanes had an effect on
agriculture, social relations, and the overall national identity of Cuba.
The Cuban coffee, tobacco, and sugar productions transformed in the 19th century due to the
hurricanes of 1842, 1844, and 1846. The productions of coffee, tobacco, and sugar prior to the 1840 s
hurricanes were profitable businesses. Many Cuban farmers saw the productions as a great way to
grow and to invest in the future. But once the 1844 hurricane hit Cuba, many farmers were left

and managers must develop and empower workers to achieve organizational goals. One develops his

importance of ethics and technology in the managerial decision making process and work related

People sense same ethical dilemmas differently, and even those with ethical sensitivity may feel or
understand the dilemma in different ways. For example, some may think reporting misconduct to
supervisors outside the chain of command is an unethical act because it is disrespectful to the
immediate superior. Some, however, believe that such an individual act, as long as benefiting the
general welfare of the group, is not in violation of a code of ethics (Fang, M., 2006). It is important to
understand an ethical dilemma before the actual decision making process begins. Once the dilemma
has been identified, individuals will start engaging in moral reasoning. However, a morally right
judgment will not necessarily lead to moral behavior. The decision making process involves many
other concerns, including self interests. For example, a person understands that giving out company
secrets to competitors is morally wrong but may still decide to do it out of self interest. The reason is
that he of she fails to establish a moral intent which shows his or her resolution to act on a moral
judgment. One may decide not to act on a decision that is perfectly ethical but on the decision that
may bring about an outcome that he or she prefers (Fang, M., 2006). One difference between an
average decision and an ethical one is that traditional rules may not apply and the decision maker must

Rudolf Dreikurs Goal Centered Theory
In order for classroom teachers to be considered effective they need to implement well considered and
planned classroom management theories. There is a vast array of alternate theories with various
strengths and weaknesses, and their suitability is highly dependent on the school and classroom
environments, as well as the staffing structure within the school. The most appropriate option for
beginning teachers when choosing an effective classroom management theory is finding one that best
integrates with their own personal teaching philosophy (Lyons, Ford, Slee, 2014, p. 22). The following
is a comparative example of Rudolf Dreikurs Goal Centered Theory, William Glassers Choice Theory,
and Cognitive Behavioural Theory which has contributors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By catering to such needs the teacher is bolstering motivation, and producing acceptable behaviour
standards (Weiler, 2004, p. 49). A major short coming for Choice Theory is that it needs to be
implemented school wide to enable students to form a cohesive interpretation of their quality world
(Lyons, Ford, Slee, 2014, p. 26). In addition to this, Choice Theory is not a short term solution to
behaviour and motivation issues, and requires extensive commitment and effort throughout the whole
school in a collaborative approach to improving behaviour management. Which according to Glasser
(Glasser Gough, 1987, p. 659) would require complete restructuring of schools and a level of
understanding of Choice Theory to be developed within the parents and community of the school.
Like GCT, Lyon, Ford and Slee (2014) suggest Choice Theory is not likely to be the most suitable
option for managing students with challenging behavioural

Transportation Has A Part Of Human History
Transportation has been a part of human history since the beginning be it walking on foot on a trail
through the forests, ships across the oceans, roads created by the horse or horse and carriage, to the
rail roads that transected the United States to modern roadways. Many advancements on roadways
throughout the years were made as each new form of transportation was improved. Then one day man
could fly and hence another form of transportation made it possible for man to go from place to place
in a fraction of the time compared to car or rail road. Along with these improved modes of
transportation came new and inherent risks like head on collisions in vehicles, planes falling from the
sky, and tunnel collapses in subways. With risk and threat comes the need for security and safety
practices. Cars were made safer and roadways were improved to include guard rails, painted lines,
traffic lights and stop signs. As the population grew so did the need to expand the ability to move
about. Interstates were built, airports were built and subways were now a means of travel in the urban
setting. As technology and the transportations system grew so did the threat and risk of damage from
either natural or manmade disasters. We take for granted every day the roads we travel believing or
thinking that nothing can or will happen to them where we live. So how what would happen if the
transportation system suffered a major attack or damage? Roadways deliver goods by way of tractor

la Vida about an abusive ruler who again lost power. Yet, they all have something in common. In the
Scarlet Pimpernel, Viva la Vida, and Ozymandias each author uses personification to convey the idea
that when power is overused, people are powerless in many ways, however the ruler or tyrant will
eventually be powerless when time comes. The Scarlet Pimpernel and Ozymandias portray the effects
of overuse of power using personification to show it results

Application Paper
Application Paper The social penetration theory is a theory composed by Altman and Taylor in which
people are compared to onions. This may seem like an absurd comparison, but when explored more
deeply it makes quite a bit of sense. The social penetration theory is a description of the multi layered
nature of people s personalities. As the outer skin of an onion is peeled away another layer is found
beneath it, and if you remove that layer you will expose another layer, and so forth. The same holds
true for people; as we get to know someone better we expose more layers of their personality and
hence become closer to the core of the individual, or the private self The outer layers of our
personality is the public self, or characteristics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How do we know when to disclose ourselves and when not to? According to Jourard a person is more
likely to self disclose when he believes that his audience is of good will, or someone with an attitude
of love and trust. Now we must ask a question as to how much one should disclose to people? The
breadth and depth of self disclosure is determined by the degree of intimacy a person wants to
achieve, with another. This theory claims that peripheral (public) items are exchanged more frequently
and sooner than private information. This usually happens in the beginning of a relationship when it is
still on a more impersonal and superficial level. According to one study, only about 2 percent of
people disclosed intimate details about themselves during this level of the relationship, the majority of
talk between two individuals on this level was about public items, or worldly experiences they both
knew about. Self disclosure is reciprocal during the beginning stages of developing a relationship.
New acquaintances generally achieve equal levels of openness, perhaps due to the vulnerability of
both people knowing nothing about the other. Instant intimacy usually does not happen with people, it
is something that both parties must strive for in order to attain. At the beginning of a relationship
penetration is usually fast, but as the layers of personality are revealed, it slows

1990s Crime Trends
Crime rate has increased in California since 2010, and even increased dramatically since the 1990s,
because there have been many unsuccessful policies to decrease the crime rates. I am for the
government to use taxpayers money to reduce crimes in our communities by increasing numbers of
police officers to the streets and providing a system to help inmates from returning to prison.
Everyone has a different perception when it comes to crime, When we think of crime, we probably
think of the dangerous characters we see played in the movies. What exactly is crime? Crime is illegal
activity that is prohibited by the law. Basically, crime is any act, which breaks the law or fails to obey
some requirement of the law. Since the decade of the 1990s crime has increased in America, especially
in state of California. In 1990s, violent crime plummeted fifty one percent, property crime fell forty
three percent, homicides are down fifty four percent compared to previous decade (Chettiar, 2015).
Increased police in the 1990s brought down crime by about five percent, police employment increased
dramatically in the 1990s, rising twenty eight percent. One example of state policy that were put in
place in the 1990s to address crime was the 1994 Crime Bill, which provided funding for 100,000 new
local officers (Chettiar, 2015). Police techniques can be effective in reducing crime especially in the
1990s. Thanks to digital revolution in the 1990s, police forces started using computers to target
criminals. But as of today, incarceration rate has increased with six percent of property crime decline
in the 1990s and sadly only one percent of property crime ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Review of Magnetotactic Bacteria and Magnetosomes
Magnetotactic bacteria are a group of prokaryotes of varying morphologies. The morphologies include
coccoid, helical, multicellular, rod shaped, and vibriod1. Magnetotactic bacteria were first discovered
by Salvatore Bellini in 1963 2. The commonality of all members of magnetotactic bacteria is that they
passively orient and swim along the geomagnetic field by means of a method called magnetotaxis.
The ability to swim along the geomagnetic field is made possible by an organelle that all
magnetotactic bacteria have, called the magnetosome 3. Other commonalities that magnetotactic
bacteria share is that they are all gram negative bacteria, are motile by means of flagella, exhibit
negative growth responses to atmospheric oxygen, and metabolize substrates via respiration 4. All
magnetotactic bacteria are either microaerophiles anaerobes, or facultatively anaerobic aerophiles 3.
This paper is designed to provide a summary of the structure, synthesis, function, distribution, and
potential uses of magnetosomes, as well as discuss current issues facing magnetosome research and
application.
Structure
Magnetotactic bacteria typically mineralize iron oxide or iron sulphide magnetosomes. The iron oxide
magnetosomes contain crystals of magnetite (Fe3O4) 5 and the iron sulphide magnetosomes are
composed of crystals of greigite (Fe3S4) 6. Of note, magnetite is the more studied form of

Interstitial Nephritis
A child with abrupt onset of acute kidney injury with a fever, rash, and a urinalysis with abnormal
urinary sediment should be highly suspected of having acute interstitial nephritis (AIN). In 75% of
cases, AIN is a drug induced hypersensitivity reaction. It is characterized by the classic triad of fever,
rash, and arthralgia, with acute renal dysfunction resulting from the infiltration and activity of
inflammatory cells when the drug/antigen is exposed to the interstitium of the kidney. Medications
commonly associated with AIN include nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), antibiotics,
diuretics, and proton pump inhibitors. Nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs are the most common, the
most studied, and possibly the most avoidable drugs that cause AIN induced acute kidney injury. The
mainstay of treatment of drug induced AIN is to discontinue treatment with the offending drug as soon
as possible and restore and/or maintain intravascular volume with isotonic fluids to maintain renal
perfusion. Once adequate renal perfusion has been accomplished, close monitoring of fluid and
electrolyte balance is of utmost importance.
Avoidance of other nephrotoxic drugs is equally important; therefore, the other 3 answer choices are
incorrect. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, starting treatment with penicillin at this time is not appropriate. Changes in urine and
frequency of urination could be due to acute poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis, but there is
typically a 1 to 2 week latent period between the onset of the throat infection and these changes.
Therefore, the timeline in the vignette does not fit. Treatment with penicillin should also be avoided in
this patient because penicillins are the second most common cause of drug induced AIN behind

Best NBA Team Essay
Best NBA team?
What NBA team is the best to ever play the sport, is it the 95 96 Bulls, or maybe the 86 87 lakers,
maybe even the 70 71 Bucks, how about the 85 86 Celtics. Well first off let s look at some of the facts.
Each of those teams won the NBA championship that year. Also all four of those teams had a 60+ win
season. So let s take a look at some of the players that played on the teams.
First of the 95 96 bulls, they had the greatest of all time, Micheal Jordan. He was the bug star for the
bulls and he was the key point for the bulls getting six championships and also getting a 72 10 season
which would be the best record for 20 years. Then you had Scottie Pippen who was Jordan s sidekick
almost, he would get a lot of rebounds, he was an excellent stealer, and he could dunk the ball like it
was nothing. Then you have Dennis Rodman, he is number two on the all time best rebounders list,
that s very impressive for a man who is 6 7. Rodman wasn t the best offensive player but his defense
stunned the crowd.
Next you have the 86 87 Lakers. Being a 6 9 point guard this man was a sight you wanted to see.
Magic Johnson would put on a show for the crowd every game he played, he could rebound, he could
steal, he could score, he could block, he could do everything you imagined. Up next you have one of

more important. Oscar Robertson was a man on a mission, in one season this man avereged a triple
double, I say again, averaged a triple double. I think that s all I need to say to make you understand
who this guy was. Kareem Abdul Jabbar also played for this team, he was better in his Bucks days
also being the all time bucks scorer although only playing there for six years. Can t forget Jon

Different Attitudes of the First World War as Expressed...
When war first broke out in 1914 the general attitude towards it was patriotism. Many young men
grabbed the chance to fight for their country and show the women their braveness, they thought they
would come back heroes, however they did not know what happened beyond the cheerful and brave
faces seen in the news papers and the blissful time the soldiers had in their letters home. This made
many more men go to war. Things gradually changed, death, disease, mud, it had suddenly hit that to
fight for your country was not such an honour. Soldiers firstly began to write poetry because poetry
was the most important mode of expression for those who were shocked and disillusioned by the
realities of the First World War. I will be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brooke never knew what life was like in the trenches so all of his poems have a positive attitude
towards the war. I am studying a poem by Siegfried Sassoon called Base Details . Sassoon was a
gallant officer who won the Military Cross as prize for bravery. He hated the massacre that war was
and the misconduct of the generals and politicians who made decisions of the war, he thought they did
not have the right to decide how or when people die. He protested against war by his poetry and
making a statement in The Times. He stopped fighting for the war after he was wounded during the
Battle of Arras and was sent home. He lived until 1967. All his poems were negative towards war as
he aimed to speak the truth about it. The last two poems I am studying are by a man named Wilfred
Owen. Owen is one of the most important poets from the wartime. Once war broke he found a great
desire to join in the war effort and became an officer. He was sent home to England after a huge shell
burst near him during the war. After this experience his views changed dramatically on the war. He
wrote the following to his mother, That one of Christ s essential commands was passivity at any price!
Suffer dishonour and disgrace but never resort to arms. Later on he met Sassoon in Craig Lockhart
War Hospital . Sassoon encouraged Owen s poetic writing. I will be studying two of Owen s negative
poems. I will begin comparing the poems by exploring the positive attitudes

Ofdm Transmission By Stephen Kiambi
OFDM transmission
Author: Stephen Kiambi
Department of Electrical and Information Engineering, University of Nairobi
OFDM or Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing is a transmission scheme that is widely used
in broadcast and wireless communication technologies. Some of the applications employing OFDM
include Digital Audio Broadcast (DAB), Digital Video Broadcasting Terrestrial (DVB T2), Wireless
LAN, Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) and 4G Long Term Evolution
(LTE) radio technologies [1, 2]. Two of the main reasons to use OFDM are to increase date rates and
robustness against frequency selective fading. In the rest of this document an overview of OFDM
transmission theory is given.
1 Basic principles of OFDM
OFDM is a multicarrier transmission technique that splits the total available bandwidth into many
narrowband sub channels at equidistant frequencies. The sub channel spectra overlap each other but
the subcarrier signals are still orthogonal. The single high rate data stream is subdivided into many
low rate data streams for the sub channels. Each sub channel is modulated individually and all the sub
channels are transmitted simultaneously in a superimposed and parallel form.
An OFDM transmit signal therefore consists of adjacent orthogonal subcarriers spaced by the
frequency distance on the frequency axis. All subcarrier signals are mutually orthogonal within the
symbol duration, , if the th unmodulated subcarrier signal is described

What Is A Winter Essay
The Winter months are always the months everyone fears, the one everyone prepares for and with
every passing Winter recording colder and colder than the last and the death toll of the people living
inside our sector, our people rising every year; it s a completely understandable and acceptable fear for
someone to have. Disowned children and terrified runways just looking for somewhere to fit in left to
starve outside on the streets whilst those better off disregard them as cretins, old and time worn
beggars with no known family left to freeze to death when the colder, harsher nights arose. Winter is
the time when our crops, livestock and the people we love wither and die resulting in people who
wanted to live so badly taking extreme actions to guarantee their own survival, allowing themselves to
be thrown into a merciless pit to fight against one another in hope for an extra bit of grain and
firewood and for women over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and accepted the consequences so many times just to protect me.
My life hasn t always just fighting for my survival, or being forced to stand and watch the people I had
come to care about beaten to bloody, mutilated pulps just in hopes for an extra something to eat to
ensure they didn t starve to death that week; but my life hadn t always been so heinous or so cruel.

never before assumed the major responsibility for carrying a show. I had never played any comedy to
speak of. I had never worked on a regular basis with juvenile actors. I mean I hadn t ever felt so torn
between my career and family. I tried to make up all the lost time by organizing special moments with
my children. But still I felt guilty about deserting Mary Anne, who was eighteen months old.
My show premiered at nine o clock on Wednesday evening, September 24, 1958. When we started I

Later Andrew McCullough sold college roommate, Jack Lemmon, had seen the pilot and predicted a

long, and when cuts were made for commercials it was less impressive. Critics who saw the premiere
were harsh. People had nothing against me tho because indeed I was the best thing to come from Iowa

Arcata Community Forestry
Managing a forest with and for the people: Community forestry and environmental public
participation in the case of Arcata, California
1. Introduction
All across the United States, historical patterns of resource extraction have led to degradation and
fragmentation of forest landscapes. When a community depends on those resources, a local crisis can
emerge from this process of degradation. To reverse this scenario, community forestry became a
popular approach in the 1970s as a modern policy and practice (Baker and Kusel, 2003). This model
was based on a simple assumption: as local people already use and rely on the natural resources of
their forests, they are in the best position to conserve them. However, recent literature has show that ...

Blood Imagery In Macbeth Essay
In Shakespeare s Macbeth a play, a man named Macbeth goes through a great transformation;
Macbeth goes from being a heroic general in the king s army to an assassin and a tyrant. The theme of
the play is never give into evil because it destroys no matter what the benefits are. Blood Imagery is
very important in the play; it shows Macbeth s evil ambition in the beginning, middle, and end of the
play.
In the beginning of the play, blood imagery is very important. quot;Till he unseamed him from the
nave to the chaps, / and fixed his head upon our battlements quot;(I.ii.22 23). Macbeth has just killed
the enemy and become a hero; Macbeth killed the enemy not for fame or fortune but to defend his
land and people. In this next quote Macbeth s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

/ thou hass no speculation in those eyes quot;(III.iv.93 96). Banquo s ghost haunts Macbeth, and
Macbeth is unable to face it. Macbeth s evil ambition usually leaves Macbeth feeling at peace or safe,
but now his ambition has left him with a painful vision of his dead friend. quot; What, you egg! /
Young fry of treachery! / He has killed me quot;(IV.ii.79 82). Macbeth has sent his men to catch and
kill Macduff, and instead Macbeth s men kill Macduff s innocent son and later his wife. Macbeth is
now giving orders to kill woman and children; he has become a complete tyrant.
In addition to the middle, blood imagery is important to the end of the play. quot;Out, damned spot!
out quot;(V.i.28). Lady Macbeth s guilt has overcome her; every night she scrubs her hands to remove
the blood, the guilt of killing. Lady Macbeth pays for her husband s crimes with her life. quot;He s
worth more sorrow, / And that I ll spend for him. / He s worth no more. / they say he parted well, and
paid his score quot;(V.viii.51 53). The evil Macbeth killed the good young Siward. YOung Siward s
blood was spilt for good; he did not die in shame; young Siward died with honor as a soldier should
and for that his father was proud.

  • 2. Essay on Partisan elections Partisan Elections In the following essay I will be talking about the disadvantages and advantages of partisan elections for state politics. I will also examine the last couple year s election results and costs. Finally, I will discuss if partisanship made a difference in the vote, as well as if a judge should be decided by partisan vote. In the next couple paragraphs I will talk more specifically about these topics. First, let s talk about the advantages of partisan elections compared to nonpartisan elections. It makes voting a lot faster because the people can just go to either democrat, republican or independent column. They do not have to go through a big list of candidates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Secondly, I will now talk about the disadvantages of having a partisan election. First, partisan elections cost a lot more money than nonpartisan elections, because in nonpartisan elections you do not have to campaign. The voters must do their own research on the candidates and makes the voter actually think and know why they are going to vote. A bad thing about this though would be time. Not everybody has time to go out and do research on candidates, because most people work eight or more hour shifts at work and then they do not want to go out and do research. Another disadvantage would be I think there is too much information out there for the candidates, which ends up confusing the voter instead of benefiting. This makes it harder when coming to vote, so many people will just mark anything because they do not care. These would be one the biggest disadvantages of partisan elections to me in state politics. I will now examine some of last election year s results. Voter turnout has decreased in the past years. There are two main factors that have been coming up in the past years. First, many citizens say that who is elected in office is not as important as it once was. Secondly, younger Americans are more cynical and disconnected from politics than ever. I think there is too much information out there and another thing that might be the reason this is happening is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Chemical Structure, Physical And Chemical Properties Jacob Patterson Ms. Wallin Chemistry H 25 October 2014 Chemicals in Our Tap Water Earth, the only known planet with life, seems to revolve around many things in todays society. Money, land, precious metal, all seems to make the world go around, but in all reality, Earth would just be another planet without one sole resource, water. The food we eat and the air we breathe all seem to be dependent. Over the centuries, we have learned much about the molecular structure, physical and chemical properties, and so on. We have been able to harness its great power, and we have made the consumption a much quicker process through the idea of city water or tap water. The concept of tap water has been around since about 3000 B.C. in Mesopotamia ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A choice few companies will eventually obtain a monopoly on life, by instilling the thought of buying water. Water is our lifeline, and our umbilical cord to the living world is being contaminated with impurities that we consume every day. There are a choice few men in this nation that seem to manage what is available to the masses, the same goes for our water. The DEPA, or the Department of Environmental Protection Agency overseas additives in our water on a national level. The DEPA is part of the Presidents cabinet, meaning he goes to the DEPA for advice on anything their agency oversees. The public drinking water systems regulated by EPA, and delegated states and tribes, provide drinking water to 90 percent of Americans (DEPA). So what exactly does the department regulate? Depending on the amount of water in a public water system, they allow a certain amount of toxins per gallon of water. The EPA allows a certain amount of toxins because the cost for the mass making, distribution, and use of pure water would be too high. Likewise, it is nearly impossible to have such large piping systems and distribution and offer a completely clean, unadulterated water. While there are standards in place for the maximum amount of contaminants allowed in water, none of these levels are at zero. Meaning, that there are dangerous toxins in the ... Thomas Jefferson s Monticello Monticello was the primary plantation of Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States, who began designing and building Monticello at age 26 after inheriting land from his father. Located just outside Charlottesville, Virginia, in the Piedmont region, the plantation was originally 5,000 acres, with Jefferson using slaves for extensive cultivation of tobacco and mixed crops, later shifting from tobacco cultivation to a wheat in response to changing markets. Jefferson designed the main house at the plantation, also called Monticello, initially using neoclassical design principles described by Italian Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio, subsequently reworking the design through much of his presidency to include design elements ... During his several years in Europe, he had an opportunity to see some of the classical buildings with which he had become acquainted from his reading, as well as to discover the modern trends in French architecture that were then fashionable in Paris. His decision to remodel his own home may date from this period. In 1794, following his service as the first U.S. Secretary of State (1790 93), Jefferson began rebuilding his house based on the ideas he had acquired in Europe. The remodeling continued throughout most of his presidency (1801 09). Although generally completed by 1809, Jefferson continued work on the present structure until his death in 1826. Jefferson added a center hallway and a parallel set of rooms to the structure, more than doubling its area. He removed the second full height story from the original house and replaced it with a mezzanine bedroom floor. The interior is centered on two large rooms, which served as an entrance hall museum, where Jefferson displayed his scientific interests, and a music sitting room. The most dramatic element of the new design was an octagonal dome, which he placed above the west front of the building in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Pros And Cons Of Black Ghettos With the abundance of government programs available to the ghettos are often misused and of course are abused by those trying to avoid working or by others who really do not need such services. With those problems plentiful the government should enforce a checks and balances program to make sure such programs are not abused and if so penalize the abusers by reducing benefits, force persuade them to return to work, or cut them off from benefits immediately which would seem very harsh for their families as well as the abuser. So basically it is a Catch 22 when it comes down to government assisted programs. These are just a few issues that can influence an outsider s view of ghettos but then when one hears the word ghettos they have their own preconceived notion what ghettos are and what they should look like along with how the people would behave as well. Of course the influence varies according to the observers perception and beliefs especially if the explanations about black ghettos have been liberal bias. For example Duneier said From a conservative s perspective, such explanations are unsatisfying because they leave little room for the black community to take responsibility for problems and pathologies and instead lay almost all blame on whites. (Duneier, 2017, p. 230). For this reason that many blacks believe that their problems are the fault of the whites and vice versa. For example, children born into a higher economic class are exposed to exceptional schools, job opportunities, and luxuries of life that lower class citizens and minority groups only dream of having. Opportunities such as these may seem harmless and even beneficial on the surface, but having a constant upper hand on things can lead to a false sense of power and entitlement. People of wealth can often buy their way out of detrimental situations, including consequences for unlawful activities. Members of these opulent families start to believe that they are above the law and see no repercussions for crimes that they commit, even if they are at fault. In contrast, there ... The epic poem is said to be a great representation of the Anglo Saxon era. Written by an anonymous monk between 800 and 1000 A.D., Beowulf displays Anglo Saxon practices, beliefs, values, and religion. Beowulf is not only a fascinating story, but also a primary source for the time period. Serving as a primary source document, scholars can have a deep understanding of the Anglo Saxon culture. They can learn about the Old English language, their customs and beliefs, and what they valued. This is why Beowulf is one of the most important pieces of English literature. Even though Beowulf serves as a primary document, it still, however, has a mystery behind it. Some of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Christians believe in one all powerful, all knowing God. Their source of wisdom is from the Holy Bible, which was, at the time, only copied and written by monks. Christians value brotherly love, forgiveness, the love of God, and other various things. In contrast of paganism, Christians view treasure as one of the seven deadly sins because hoarding it leads to greed. Although, similar to paganism, Christians value sharing. They believe it is good to share one s fortune to those less fortunate than themselves. Doing such a task gives them a sense of good morals and the grace of God. Certainly Christian and pagan beliefs are both represented in Beowulf. Based on what the world knows, Beowulf was written by an anonymous monk. At the time, England was converted to Christianity. The world, however, does not know why there are Christian connections in Beowulf. The biggest conspiracy is the monk wanted to blend Christian customs with the Anglo Saxon s, so there was not a threat to convert people by force. Many scholars believe that Christians had done this centuries before the epic poem was written. Although, for a brief moment, paganism was briefly mentioned in Beowulf. Sometimes at pagan shrines they vowed offerings to idols, swore oaths that the killer of souls might come to their aid and save their people. That was their way, their heathenish hope; deep in their hearts they remembered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. How Does Harriet Beecher Stowe Use Propaganda On a superficial level, Uncle Tom s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe is a fictitious, narrative about slavery. Yet, the truth is that the novel is filled with propaganda. A narrator, Stowe, breaks the third wall to directly address the issues of slavery with the reader. The novel ends with revelatory remarks that there can be no possible justification for owning slaves, and beyond the condemnation, action needs to be taken to end the horrible enterprise. Beyond direct statement through the narrator and characters, the characters themselves hold a type of persuasions in their actions and thoughts. This novel is more than just a casual read. There can be no mistake, the novel is a form of propaganda with the ultimate goal of influencing its readers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author s white, female characters act as an example for her white, female readers to model themselves after. This argument is more than go out and vote or start protests, because those methods of change are not a reasonable expectation for a group of people whose role is to be polite, hospitable, and demure. Thus, the methods the women are expected to take are indirect by being more subtle and persuasive instead of direct and confrontational. Subtlety and persuasion are demonstrated by the female characters, Mrs. Emily Shelby and Mrs. Mary Bird. Mrs. Shelby used her subtlety to throw off the plans of the slave trader and allowing her slaves to escape. She slyly suggests to her slaves take their time in collecting the horses, before then offering her guest dinner and pushing back the time for eating, because the meal is supposedly not suitable enough for guests. Mrs. Bird discusses her opinion on slavery and fugitive slave laws with her husband in a very womanly manner, respectful and persuasive, in a successful attempt to convince him to take an abolitionist stance in his job as senator. Both Mrs. Shelby and Mrs. Bird are able to receive their desired results by working within their role as women. • 13. Sigmund Freud s Theory Of Psychoanalysis Essay Freud s theological perspective was termed Psychoanalysis. Freud believed people unconsciously repressed information, and that this hidden information was the cause of their distress. The unconscious is the space in your brain where thoughts, feelings, and desires are tucked away, and cannot be readily drawn upon and available to the conscious mind. Because 99% of this methodology is dealing with the unconscious, Freud believed that success could not be reached by the individual alone, rather they need someone trained in the ways of Psychoanalysis to help them. In contrast, the conscious mind is all of the things we are thinking and feeling now; it is information that is easily accessible to us. There is also this idea of a preconscious, where while we are not currently thinking of that information, if we want it, it is there and can be pulled up when we are ready to attend to it. Psychotherapy was often a many year process where various methods and theories within his theory of Psychoanalysis were considered and practiced. One of these theories is that of psychosexual development. Psychosexual Development As one grows and develops it is often times clear they pass through difference stages of development; for Freud, his focus was psychosexual development. This term refers to how sexual energy, libido, is found and focused on different parts of the body throughout development. What most people don t take into consideration before consuming these drugs is that most prescription opioids have addictive side effects, that when taken in long term or copious amounts can cause the user to experience withdrawals and ultimately draw them back in a continuous cycle. Most would say, why can t they just not take the drugs? Or claim it was the users fault because they know better. While they are not entirely right, it s not wrong either. Research shows that a large majority of teens will find themselves in a position where they will be offered drugs before the age of 14 at a party, this decision will ultimately affect their life in the long run, be it becoming a social outcast from their peers for not trying these drugs, or taking them and developing an addiction that will surely harm their bodies before they ve truly became adults. During the 1840 s Cuba was affected by three hurricanes that all happened within four years of each other in 1842, 1844, and 1846. Many scholars have looked over these hurricanes in Cuba as not really having much of an in depth affect on Cuba s life and history but just as being hurricanes. But Louis A. Pérez Jr. a professor and scholar, labeled these 19th century hurricanes as a flash point to look at Cuba s history from multiple angles. saw the 1842, 1844, and 1846 hurricanes as being more than just storms by using multiple resources like the Archivo Nacional de Cubaa, Havana, encyclopedias, such as the Encyclopedia of Hurricanes, Typhoons, and Cyclones by David Longshore (New York, 1998), and descriptive chronologies by David L. People sense same ethical dilemmas differently, and even those with ethical sensitivity may feel or understand the dilemma in different ways. For example, some may think reporting misconduct to supervisors outside the chain of command is an unethical act because it is disrespectful to the immediate superior. Some, however, believe that such an individual act, as long as benefiting the general welfare of the group, is not in violation of a code of ethics (Fang, M., 2006). It is important to understand an ethical dilemma before the actual decision making process begins. Once the dilemma has been identified, individuals will start engaging in moral reasoning. However, a morally right judgment will not necessarily lead to moral behavior. The decision making process involves many other concerns, including self interests. For example, a person understands that giving out company secrets to competitors is morally wrong but may still decide to do it out of self interest. The reason is that he of she fails to establish a moral intent which shows his or her resolution to act on a moral judgment. One may decide not to act on a decision that is perfectly ethical but on the decision that may bring about an outcome that he or she prefers (Fang, M., 2006). Transportation Has A Part Of Human History Transportation has been a part of human history since the beginning be it walking on foot on a trail through the forests, ships across the oceans, roads created by the horse or horse and carriage, to the rail roads that transected the United States to modern roadways. Many advancements on roadways throughout the years were made as each new form of transportation was improved. Then one day man could fly and hence another form of transportation made it possible for man to go from place to place in a fraction of the time compared to car or rail road. Along with these improved modes of transportation came new and inherent risks like head on collisions in vehicles, planes falling from the sky, and tunnel collapses in subways. With risk and threat comes the need for security and safety practices. Cars were made safer and roadways were improved to include guard rails, painted lines, traffic lights and stop signs. As the population grew so did the need to expand the ability to move about. Interstates were built, airports were built and subways were now a means of travel in the urban setting. As technology and the transportations system grew so did the threat and risk of damage from either natural or manmade disasters. The social penetration theory is a description of the multi layered nature of people s personalities. As the outer skin of an onion is peeled away another layer is found beneath it, and if you remove that layer you will expose another layer, and so forth. The same holds true for people; as we get to know someone better we expose more layers of their personality and hence become closer to the core of the individual, or the private self The outer layers of our personality is the public self, or characteristics ... According to Jourard a person is more likely to self disclose when he believes that his audience is of good will, or someone with an attitude of love and trust. Now we must ask a question as to how much one should disclose to people? The breadth and depth of self disclosure is determined by the degree of intimacy a person wants to achieve, with another. This theory claims that peripheral (public) items are exchanged more frequently and sooner than private information. This usually happens in the beginning of a relationship when it is still on a more impersonal and superficial level. According to one study, only about 2 percent of people disclosed intimate details about themselves during this level of the relationship, the majority of talk between two individuals on this level was about public items, or worldly experiences they both knew about. Self disclosure is reciprocal during the beginning stages of developing a relationship. New acquaintances generally achieve equal levels of openness, perhaps due to the vulnerability of both people knowing nothing about the other. I am for the government to use taxpayers money to reduce crimes in our communities by increasing numbers of police officers to the streets and providing a system to help inmates from returning to prison. Everyone has a different perception when it comes to crime, When we think of crime, we probably think of the dangerous characters we see played in the movies. What exactly is crime? Crime is illegal activity that is prohibited by the law. Basically, crime is any act, which breaks the law or fails to obey some requirement of the law. Since the decade of the 1990s crime has increased in America, especially in state of California. In 1990s, violent crime plummeted fifty one percent, property crime fell forty three percent, homicides are down fifty four percent compared to previous decade (Chettiar, 2015). Increased police in the 1990s brought down crime by about five percent, police employment increased dramatically in the 1990s, rising twenty eight percent. Review Of Magnetotactic Bacteria And Magnetosomes Christian Ramirez Bionanotechnology 12/18/14 Review of Magnetotactic Bacteria and Magnetosomes Magnetotactic bacteria are a group of prokaryotes of varying morphologies. The morphologies include coccoid, helical, multicellular, rod shaped, and vibriod1. Magnetotactic bacteria were first discovered by Salvatore Bellini in 1963 2. The commonality of all members of magnetotactic bacteria is that they passively orient and swim along the geomagnetic field by means of a method called magnetotaxis. The ability to swim along the geomagnetic field is made possible by an organelle that all magnetotactic bacteria have, called the magnetosome 3. Other commonalities that magnetotactic bacteria share is that they are all gram negative bacteria, are motile by means of flagella, exhibit negative growth responses to atmospheric oxygen, and metabolize substrates via respiration 4. All magnetotactic bacteria are either microaerophiles anaerobes, or facultatively anaerobic aerophiles 3. This paper is designed to provide a summary of the structure, synthesis, function, distribution, and potential uses of magnetosomes, as well as discuss current issues facing magnetosome research and application. Medications commonly associated with AIN include nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), antibiotics, diuretics, and proton pump inhibitors. Nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs are the most common, the most studied, and possibly the most avoidable drugs that cause AIN induced acute kidney injury. The mainstay of treatment of drug induced AIN is to discontinue treatment with the offending drug as soon as possible and restore and/or maintain intravascular volume with isotonic fluids to maintain renal perfusion. Ofdm Transmission By Stephen Kiambi OFDM transmission Author: Stephen Kiambi Department of Electrical and Information Engineering, University of Nairobi OFDM or Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing is a transmission scheme that is widely used in broadcast and wireless communication technologies. Some of the applications employing OFDM include Digital Audio Broadcast (DAB), Digital Video Broadcasting Terrestrial (DVB T2), Wireless LAN, Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) and 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) radio technologies [1, 2]. Two of the main reasons to use OFDM are to increase date rates and robustness against frequency selective fading. In the rest of this document an overview of OFDM transmission theory is given. 1 Basic principles of OFDM OFDM is a multicarrier transmission technique that splits the total available bandwidth into many narrowband sub channels at equidistant frequencies. The sub channel spectra overlap each other but the subcarrier signals are still orthogonal. The single high rate data stream is subdivided into many low rate data streams for the sub channels. Each sub channel is modulated individually and all the sub channels are transmitted simultaneously in a superimposed and parallel form. An OFDM transmit signal therefore consists of adjacent orthogonal subcarriers spaced by the frequency distance on the frequency axis. All subcarrier signals are mutually orthogonal within the symbol duration, , if the th unmodulated subcarrier signal is described ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
