Stages Of Alzheimer s Disease Genetics
I. Introduction Attention
A. This is a picture of my grandparents, they lived very happy and exciting lives. But, after their
retirement something changed with my grandmother she was unable to recognize the face of her
husband, whom she had met when she was only 16 years old.
1. Both my father s mother, with early onset (which can begin at age 30) and his father, with late onset
passed away with Alzheimer s disease.
2. There is genetic testing to determine if someone carries the gene (Alzheimer s Disease Genetics

1. The only thing that makes living knowing that there is a high probability we will have an incurable

Counter Fire Task Force Mission Report
I have been here in this Battalion for just under eleven months now; the main mission that the
Battalion plays is to support the Counter Fire Task Force if North Korea were ever to attack. Within
the Battalion there are three Batteries, two firing Batteries with M270 Multi Launch Rocket Systems
(MLRS) assigned, a Headquarter and Headquarters Battery and a Forward Support Company (FSC).
As I said in the introduction, I am only over here for one year; this means that every Soldier within the
Battalion and the Brigade (echelon above Battalion) are only in position for one year. The Battalion
Commander and Sergeant Major are in position for two years due to the nature of importance of the
positions they hold within the Organization. Typically, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Currently there is an incentive option to encourage Soldiers to extend for an additional year in Korea;
this is known as the Assignment Incentive Pay (AIP) Option, where you get an additional three
hundred dollars a month from the moment you sign the documents to extend until you leave the
country. Although this is a nice option to have, many Soldiers and leaders still choose not to stay any
longer than their one year obligation. As I see it the only way to get Soldiers and leaders to stay is to
make them stay. To develop a proper way ahead and remain flexible to change as needed throughout
the process, Kotter s eight step approach to change would allow for a good strategy rather than plan to
allow for the Army to accomplish this mission. The first step on Kotter s approach is to develop a
sense of urgency; just like most things in life, if you re not being pushed by someone of something to
accomplish a task than you will wait and it may not get done to standard or at all. Step one, I would
decide on a date that we would start implementing the normal accompanied tour and send out a
MILPER message across the entire force to all active duty personnel s email. I would stress that we
are transitioning back to the longer tour to enhance readiness and detour any aggressions from North
Korea. With Soldiers returning with their families, there would a large need of construction of support
facilities for these families; currently there are no schools on the instillation that I am assigned. We
could make this campaign a partnership with the local community and provide jobs and boost the local

The Role Of The Accounting Profession And The Value Of The...
Accountants play an important role in the world of business. The article, The Future of the Accounting
Profession and the Value of the CPA. , illustrates the importance of the accounting profession and the
challenges that accountants face. With over ten years of experience working in the areas of finance
and office management, I have personal experience with various influences in the accounting world
that were discussed in the article. This includes topics such as technological advancements, the merits
of networking mentorship, the value of obtaining a CPA designation, accountancy education, and work
life balance (WLB). The accounting profession continues to evolve alongside social trends and
corporate developments, such as corporate social responsibility (CSR) and crowdfunding. In my
previous position as Director of Finance Administration at Disability Rights International (DRI), I
have traveled to many countries and conducted several international financial trainings and workshops
to encourage education, transparency, and self sustainability to local partners and field offices. I have
seen first hand how financial reporting and fiduciary responsibility is a powerful tool, which one can
wield to impact and empower to promote social change. However the reverse is also true: social
changes also affect financial reporting. After reading the Jones Jonas (2011) article, Corporate Social
Responsibility Reporting: The Growing Need for Input from the Accounting

Physician-Assisted Suicide Essay
Is the role of a medical professional to ensure the well being of their patients, or to assist them in
ending their lives? Many people may believe that physicians would never perform the latter, but in
actuality one practice does so. Physician assisted suicide is the intentional ending of one s life brought
on by lethal substances prescribed by a doctor. In the majority of cases, the patient is terminally ill and
simply does not desire to live any longer. Their physician provides the medication necessary to end
their life. Many supporters aver that this practice is merely an act of compassion as terminally ill
persons may suffer extreme pain that eradicates any will to live. They also assert that the decision to
die is of the patient s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Joe Messerli, Assisting in suicides would be a violation of that oath, and it would lead to
a weakening of doctor patient trust (3). If doctors violate the oath, especially the above stated portions,
patients may be inclined to question what other standards of medicine are being breached. Assisted
suicides contravene medical ethics, as evidenced by the multiple violations of the Hippocratic Oath.
Furthermore, the practice of assisted suicide has a significant possibility of being abused. Assisted
suicides are designed to allow those who are seriously ill and suffer from extreme pain to easily end
their lives (Braddock and Tenelli 1). Those who lack support from members of their family or friends
may feel worthless and hence may desire to end their lives (Pretzer 2). If the patient has no loved ones
to confide to and receive support from, they may feel as if no one cares and therefore no reason to live
exists. Since assisted suicides are unregulated, doctors may allow patients wishing to die for
subordinate reasons, such as the one previously stated, instead of suffering reasons to commit suicide.
Moreover, Patients who want to die for psychological or emotional reasons could convince doctors to
help them end their lives (Messerli 3). As stated before, assisted suicides are not meant to allow those
with emotional or mental problems to end their lives. If someone has such problems, they should

Nixon, Kissinger And The Rise Of Realpolitik
Nixon, Kissinger and the Rise of Realpolitik: A Neoclassical Realist Approach to US
Foreign Policy, 1969 1974
POLI 346
Professor Mark Brawley
TA: Alice Chessé
Topic 16
The Rise of Realpolitik The Nixon Kissinger partnership is considered by academics and
policymakers as one of the most powerful collaborations in the history of US foreign policy. Richard
Nixon appointed Henry Kissinger, Jewish German émigré, as his national security advisor during his
presidency. Although the two came from vastly different backgrounds, their bond was marked by a
strong sense of cohesion and agreement on key foreign policy challenges, such as overextension in
Vietnam and the looming Soviet threat. The unlikely pair went on to fundamentally change the
trajectory of the Cold War, and to usher in a new era in East West relations. Nixon and Kissinger s
foreign policy was predicated on the European tradition of realpolitik a pragmatic approach to politics
where the the state s strategic interests supersede its parochial and ideological convictions. This was a
departure from the status quo where foreign policy was in large part denominated in a state s moral
principles. Nixon and Kissinger s foreign policy could be seen to fall under the rubric of neoclassical
realism: it incorporates both the systemic conditions faced by the state, and the internal material
resources at the state s disposal to respond to external threats. Proponents of neoclassical realism

The Elements Of Screenwriting
INTRODUCTION:
Film scriptwriting, also known as screenwriting, is a unique process or technique of presenting each
detail including the visuals of the scenes or any other related elements by compiling them into a
written form. To write a particular film script, the scriptwriters have to take account of the elements in
screenwriting to produce a good fulfilled script. Even though writing a film script depends on the
genre chosen, the elements in it will not change. Each element in the structures plays an important role
in order for the scriptwriters to produce as well as to sell their script to the filmmakers.
Blacker (1986) listed that, Plot The ordering and selection of scenes to tell a story and affect an
audience. Character The particulars ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Blacker (1986) wrote, A character in a film is a representation of a person exhibiting certain
personality traits selected for a dramatic purpose. (The Elements of Screenwriting, p. 35). In a film,
the characters exist to drive the story forward, to build tension within the story as they are about to
bring the viewers into it. The scriptwriter will establish the characters which fit in the story, and the
most vital characters are the protagonist and the antagonist. The central character or the protagonist
who is decorated with special strong points has to endure and overcome such obstacles, or has a goal
they want to reach in their life which will become the storyline the scriptwriter wanting to express.
Opposite to the protagonist is the antagonist who is associated with malevolent behaviours or plans to
create misery, to wreck or to mess up with the protagonist s life. It is important for the scriptwriter to
introduce each character in their film script without making the description too broad or too specific.
For an example, in 1969 s film, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, William Goldman had smoothly
introduced a girl moving up behind Butch; its simple line of She is reasonably pretty, a little used. is
enough to create an immediate impression of the

The Case Of Plessy V. Ferguson
Segregation is the enforced separation of different racial groups in a country, community, or
establishment. During segregation people of different races had to ride in different rail cars and
attended separate schools. In two cases, Plessy V. Ferguson and Brown V. Bored of Education, the
Fourteenth Amendment was argued. The outcome of these two court cases effected African Americans
and their fight against segregation. These two court case are similar in their fight for a cause because
they challenged the meaning of the same law, but different in their outcome. The precedent separate

the fourteenth amendment dealt with legal equality not social equality. These statements are talking
about how no rights were taken away from the Separate Cars Act so the act of segregation was legal.
Judge Harlan wrote the minority s opinion stating But it is difficult to reconcile that boast with the
state of the law which, practically, puts the brand of servitude and degradation upon a large class of
our fellow citizens, our equals before the law. Judge Harlan had also stated The thin disguise of equal

Louisiana was making the Separate Cars Act seem equal when really the act was degrading to African
Americans. This case had set the precedent separate but equal this precedent was used to decide the

The Literary Analysis Of Cold Harbor By John Reekie
Throughout history, war has invariably been the solution to conflicts that arise between two opposing
sides of mankind. As Bertrand Russell puts it, War does not determine who is right but who is left .
The illustration, Cold Harbor by John Reekie, captures the aftermath of the Civil War as African
Americans pick up the deceased soldiers from the battlefield. Cold Harbor is one of many pictures
depicting the losses of the Civil War and, while it may evoke a part of the disturbances caused by the
Civil War, it can never help one mentally reconstruct what the war was like. This picture aids in
elucidating the fallacies of the Civil War by placing emphasis on the massive death toll and the
economic motives that resulted in the persistence of prejudiced social constructs. The purpose of the
illustration was to give an insightful eye into the aftermath of the war including how it affected
Americans. The document seems to create a memoir. Given that things were posed in a specific way, it
seems that the photo was intended to show the original location and source of the bones. In the
document, it shows a group of African Americans picking up the remains of soldiers who died in the
battle year before this. The remains are of soldiers from a battle because of the uniforms the bodies are
wearing. Through showing the Americans the remains of the soldiers, it gives the war a sense of
remorse and meaning. By having the bodies all stacked on top of each other and the skulls of the

They communicated information in small units, they tie new information into what the children
already knew, and would check for the understanding. At the end of a lesson or unit the teacher would

children having trouble cognitively understanding or problems not being able to focus their attention.
Mrs. Vecchiariello referred to curriculum framework as she planned her lessons with what she would
do with her children, and the classroom experiences. Mrs. Vecchiariello did not have to revert back to
their curriculum, because she had it memorized from all the years that she has been a teacher. Both the
teacher and teaching assistant sat together when planning and implementing learning experiences

children of that age, and to understand the cultural and social context of children s

On July 1, 1992 Karen Compano went missing. Chris had worked in construction and spent time in

day Chris called Karen s work and when he was told she was not there he filed a missing person s

where the blood disappears.
Now they had to determine was it enough blood to be a homicide? They reconstructed an experiment
and the medical examiner claimed that the victim lost over forty percent of their blood, so they did not
survive it. Now that they knew someone was murdered in the house, the next question in their head
was is it Karen?
They had obtained blood samples from Karen s Mother, Sisters, Children, and Ex Husband. They
compared the known sample found on the carpet in the bedroom to Karen s relatives. The key to this
test was seeing if half of the DNA matched the known sample to Karen s family. When it came back
that it did match, they knew it was Karen who was murdered in the bedroom.
Chris was now arrested. Prosecutors were confident that he would get convicted even without the
body and without the murder weapon. Right before the trial began, Karen s body was found in a
remote area off an interstate highway by kids on dirt bikes. Under her body was a check to a New

The Presidential Election of 2004 Essay
Analyze the Presidential election of 2004. What happened and why?
Analyze the changing nature of the media and how that is affecting politics.
The two questions identified above cannot be adequately answered alone without one influencing the
other because a campaign that influences the election of the most powerful position in the world is a
public event. However, after months of predictions of a too close to call contest, Bush won nationwide
balloting making him the 15th president elected to a second term and the first to win both a majority
of the popular vote and the Electoral College since his father in 1988. The GOP also extended its

Those who opposed the president did so because of his decision to go to war in Iraq and how it was
carried out and their nervousness about the economy. As it turned out Kerry s vote was anti Bush, it
wasn t pro Kerry.
Voter turnout hit record highs nationally, and the total for Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney was
higher than any previous presidential ticket. Some of the greatest percentage gains over 2000 came in
13 states that were the battleground in the presidential election. Millions of dollars were spent on TV
ads and voter mobilization. Interestingly, Democratic strategists had predicted that turnout at those
levels would assure victory. But Democratic voter drives were matched in large part by Republicans,
particularly religious conservatives.
Voters conveyed a sense of urgency about Iraq, and their top priority for President Bush to tackle after
his re election. Iraq was followed by terrorism among voters leading concerns. Voters also conveyed
they want the President to cut the deficit and balance the budget rather than reducing taxes.
After a campaign dominated by discussion of Iraq and terrorism, national security issues were at the
top of voters concerns along with the economy. Many voters indicated through their votes they were
also concerned about quot;moral values quot;. This election confirmed that we are a divided nation,
not only politically, but in terms of our interpretation of religion. The

Johann Sebastian Bach Impact
Johann Sebastian Bach is primarily known for being an outstanding organist and virtuosic. He was a
German composer in the baroque period. The baroque period is the time where human emotions start
to influence music and is often associated with being romantic. Bach was regarded in his time as an
extremist because he had great detail in his pieces. In his 65 years of life, he wrote over 1,000
compositions. Bach s most famous works include Toccata and Fugue in D minor, The Well Tempered
Clavier, and The Cello Suites. It is safe to say that Bach left an imprint and is still influential to music
all over the world. His pieces are still recognizable and used in numerous movies. Bach influenced
18th and 19th century composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, and Mendelssohn. Bach has
several monuments including the one in Leipzig built in 1908 that people still frequently visit. Using
his talent and skills with music, Bach shared his love for music and began to make a name for himself.
Bach was born Eisenach, Germany, on March 31, 1685. He came from a multi generation family of
musicians. Elizabeth Lämmerhirt Bach was his mother s name and his father, Johann Ambrosius Bach,
was a church organist and taught young Bach how to play the violin. At age ten, after his mother and
father died, Johann moved to Ohrdruf, Germany and received his first lesson on the keyboard from his
brother who played the organ for St. Michaels Church. From there, Johann got a scholarship for his

Willy Loman Death Of A Salesman Essay
The Two Willy Lomans in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman
There are two Willy Lomans in The Death of a Salesman. There is the present broken, exhausted man
in his sixties, soon to end his life. And there is the more confident, vigorous Willy of some fifteen
years before, who appears in the flashbacks. One actor portrays both, readily shifting from one
representation to the other. To some extent, of course, the personality remains constant. The younger
Willy, although given to boastful blustering, does admit misgivings to Linda and loneliness to Biff.
And the shattered older man, in turn, occasionally reverts to his former manner of jaunty optimism.
Yet the changes are great and significant. The earlier Willy could never have been ... Show more

At this point, however, relations are strained. Although Willy shies away from remembering so painful
an episode, he knows in his heart that the Boston affair left the boy bitterly disillusioned. Feeling some
sense of guilt, Willy fears that all of Biff s later difficulties may have been really attempts to get
revenge. Biff has failed, in other words, mainly to spite Willy. Although outwardly resenting such
alleged vindictiveness. Willy still wants to get back the old comradeship, even if he has to buy it
dearly. Why can t I give him something, he asks the spectral Ben, and not have him hate me? And his
great final moment of joy and triumph occurs when he can exclaim, Isn t that remarkable? Biff he
likes me!
On the other hand, Willy also is emotionally involved with Biff because his son s success or failure is
also his. By becoming rich and influential, the handsome, personable Biff was slated to provide Willy
s victorious reply to all not sufficiently impressed with his own modest advancement. By making his
fortune in the business world, Biff would prove that Willy had been right in turning down Ben s
adventurous challenge to head for Alaska. He would also outshine the sensible, plodding Charley and
Bernard, thus establishing once and for all Willy s theory that having personality and being well liked
were the great requisites for preeminence. Losing his own job, Willy is naturally unhappy. But if he

An Analysis of Nonviolent Resistance
An Analysis of Nonviolent Resistance The Nonviolent Resistance written by Martin Luther King Jr.
shows the three ways people use to deal with oppression. The first one is acquiescence, which merely
increases the oppressor s contempt. The second way is violence, which merely creates new and more
problems. And the third way is nonviolent resistance, which is the way to guide Negro to harmonic
race relations. Because nonviolent resistance reconciles the acquiescence and violence, it makes
Negro remain in South and struggle for both rights and equality, it helps Negro to achieve the goal of
integration, it mitigates the fears of the white and it reaches people more than the law. Finally,
nonviolent resistance is worthy of being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They would rather bear those ills they have, as Shakespeare pointed out, than flee to others that they

background, he uses biblical references, such as Almost 2800 years ago Moses set out to lead the
children of Israel from the slavery of Egypt to the freedom of the promised land (King 510), and
Religion reminds every man that he is his brother s keeper (King 510). The author uses biblical

and the audience is sure to get evolved. What s more, the author considers Christian as a morally
approach because the audience not only includes black people but also their enemy white people. The
nonviolent resister agrees with the person who acquiesces that one should not be physically aggressive
toward his opponent (King 511) and The job of the Negro is to show them that they have nothing to

only to show that he loves his enemy .White people don t need to fear because black people will not
look back to the disaster history and all they will do is just moving on. So if he fails to touch the
audience by his logic, he can still reach them by morally approach. In the third place, the author tries

occurred. This pushed back the start of the splash area (see appendix diagram Splash Area) by a week.
This part of the process did not include the community involvement and was completed by the hired
construction crew plus a structural engineer. The elements of the splash park include galvanized steel
parts to make the different structures that water will shoot, spray, and pour down. Also, during the
laying of the foundation process, holes were made in order to allow for water to shoot up from the
ground, allow for the placement of made structures, and to drain the water out. The different colors
chosen were to help bring about good vibes and fun times. Once every structure was composed, it was

Rates of Violence
Rates of Violence Introduction Crime, according to Emile Durkheim, is a normal component of
society. The iconic psychologist said that in the 19th century. But crime is considered abnormal in
England, the United States, and in Canada; this paper presents data on the three nations mentioned
above. United States Murder: According to the FBI, there were an estimated 14,748 individuals
murdered in 2010 in the U.S., which is down by 4.2 percent from 2009. There were 4.8 murders per
100,000 inhabitants and 44 percent of the murders took place in the South, 20.6 percent in the West,
19.9 percent in the Midwest and 15.6 percent in the Northeast. Aggravated Assault: Also in 2010,
there were an estimated 778,901 aggravated assaults in the United States, the FBI reports. That is a
decline by 4.1 percent from the year 2009, and a decline of 14.3 percent from 2001. There were
approximately 252.3 assaults per 100,000 people and 27.4 percent were carried out with hands, fists,
or feet ; 20.6 percent were committed using firearms; 19 percent were committed with knives or other
cutting instruments, the FBI reports. Forcible Rape: the FBI report indicates an estimated 84,767
forcible rapes were reported in 2010, down 5 percent from 2009. There were 54.2 rapes per 100,000
females. Robbery: As to robberies in 2010, the FBI estimates there were 367,832 robberies, that is

Literary Criticism In Cardinal Richelieu
Alfredo Camacho
Dr. Fontes
CLAS 5
3 October 2017
Book Review Poetry is a form of art that serves the purpose to express the writer s opinions, and also
combat oppressive forces without the use of any physical force. These writers can relate to the
expression by the playwright and novelist Edward Bulwer Lytton in the play Cardinal Richelieu, The
pen is mightier than the sword (BBC); this expression serves as a metaphor in its own right as the
nature describes the effect of words to provide a stronger impact on the intended audience than any
kind of violence would. This term ties in perfectly with the ideas of Chicanx; the Chicanx perspective
of life is oppression and the dangers of racial tensions and manners to dethrone those who impose that
on others. They have long fought against the unfair forces that have come against them, and have been
involved in many violent forms of protest. With Cesar Chavez becoming more invested in the peaceful
form of protesting to gain trust and momentum in the campaigns they were in, more and more writers
began to express their feelings and place their own two cents into the mixture of ideas. Often long
stories are made in effort to express a personal form of how life is changing and growing fears are
turning into, however some writers chose to use poetry as their version of a weapon against the
oppressing forces. A poem is much shorter and does not provide the sufficient build up that can be
placed into a Chicano novel, but the effect of

Conversion Therapy
On June 26, 2016 the Supreme Court ruled same sex marriage legal in all states. Although this was a
huge victory for many people across the US, many issues linger for LGBT people and the LGBT
community. One such issue is the practice of conversion therapy. Also called reparative therapy or
sexual orientation change efforts (SOCE), conversion therapy is a range of treatments with the aim of
converting homosexual or transgender people to being heterosexual or cisgender. The treatments used
to involve extreme measures such as institutionalization, castration, and electroconvulsive shock

One very broadcasted story from the 1970s was that of psychologist George Rekers and his patient,
five year old Kirk Murphy. The young boy had exhibited stereotypically feminine behavior, such as a
preference for girls toys, and was receiving treatments to prevent him from becoming gay in the
future. Rekers instructed Murphy s parents to reward him for exhibiting masculine behavior and to
punish him when he displayed feminine behavior. The punishments would often include ignoring or
spanking him. Murphy s story was later cited by Rekers as a success story, and Rekers and other
proponents of these practices used this story to deceive other parents and entrap clients into believing
these methods are safe and effective. However, contradictory to Rekers s statements, Murphy was gay
in adulthood and the severe psychological trauma he suffered can be attributed to Rekers s treatments .

Character Development Of Old Tallow And Omakayas In The...
Paper 2 Character development plays a vital role in stories to create a developing plot. In many books,
it is common to see a relationship between two characters blossom as the story progresses. Evidence
of this can be seen in The Birchbark House between two main characters, Omakayas and Old Tallow.
From the beginning of the story, Omakayas feels a sense of connection with Old Tallow, but she is not
able to pinpoint what exactly makes that connection between the two so strong. Through life
experiences, maturity, and a sense of affection, Old Tallow and Omakayas s relationship grows
continually throughout the novel. These interactions between the two helps the reader understand the
role that Omakayas learns to embrace and flourish in in her community as she takes on the crucial role
of the healer, as well as the steps it took to get there. The Birchbark House is not necessarily an action
driven book, but one that focuses on the life experience that the community faces together. Omakayas
and Old Tallow both face hardships throughout the novel, but they don t face them alone. One of the
most substantial life experiences that the two faces together is the visitor. On page 142 we see this
devastating event take place. One quote that sums up the catastrophic impact of the event is found on
page 142 and states, Indeed, what happened changed the way Omakayas and her family lived from

The Odyssey And Trojan Women
HOMER AND EURIPIDES DEAL WITH THE SAME THEMES BUT IN DIFFERENT WAYS
INTRO: Despite difference of around 400 years between them Greek poet Homer and tragedian
playwright Euripides explore many of the same themes in their works the Odyssey and Trojan Women
(written by each respectively). Both works are inspired by the events of 12th Century BCE Trojan War
that Homer previously explored in the Iliad. The two examine the worth of cunning over brute
strength, the dangers of temptation and the role of women in their respective time periods. Despite
having extremely similar central ideas, the techniques employed by each are markedly different. These
differences arise as the result of changes in socio historical contexts and format of each work s
presentation, for example the critical shift of the 5th century which saw the rise of sophistry and a
certain scepticism in regard to Athenian leadership and the very existence of the gods.
PARA ONE: Socio Historical Context
Homer s the Odyssey is an Epic poem written in the 8th Century BCE (the dark ages of Greece / the
geometric period). Euripides Trojan Women was written in 415 BCE, after the great plague of Athens
and the rise of sophistry. Both were written in Mycenaean Greece, and inspired by events of the fabled
12th Century Trojan War. Homer s purpose was to record the events, and provide entertainment for
audiences in an oratory form. Euripides wrote a play, intended to be performed for Athenian men, in a
competition.

The Importance Of Inequality In Society
Inequality, unspoken reality that is an alarming concern for our society. It is implied as the definitive
allocation of scarce resources in society, which plays a significant role in the way democratic societies
and nations act upon. Inequality is every form of definition; it sets the global problems and increases
the defining political problem of our age. Participating in government helps us assess sets of
complicated values that authorities lay for our welfare. Gaining visibility around the localities that the
government places for their citizens. Being political highlights the ranges where it constitutes our
current understanding of what it entails to be a citizen. Being a constituent of the governmental rituals,
one must perform a set of rules that are assigned by the respective authorities to be a part of the
political world. Rising inequality in this time may not be a huge concern as it was during the Victorian
Era according to the author of the book, Inequality. What Everyone Needs To Know by James K.
Galbraith. However, in order to discuss such concerns where it nearly affects millions of individuals,
businesses, population, and nations, one must gain a mind of a person who understands the meaning of
being a political and knows how to discuss such events in an appropriate manner. Inequality is a
political problem that demands a political solution and it cannot be discussed otherwise. Economists

Stoning In The Lottery By Shirley Jackson
American author Matthew Scully once said, sometimes tradition and habit are just that, excuses to
leave things be, even when they are unjust and unworthy. . There are always traditions passed down
from generation to generation, without the knowledge of how they began or how they originated.
Some traditions are harmless and enhance the community; other traditions are outdated and cruel that
need to be modernized or discarded. Shirley Jackson uses symbolism such as the stoning of people,
the lottery itself, and the black box in The Lottery to highlight how people blindly follow traditions.
Stoning is one of the earliest murder weapons used by humans as a form of social justice within
communities. This arrangement of punishment always occurs

The Importance Of Socialization In Ancient Roman Society
The biggest and most indicative social activity in ancient Roman society was that of gladiatorial
combat, and all of the additional components that went along with it. Roman s of all ages,
backgrounds, and social classes spent an exorbitant amount of time observing and enjoying this brutal
pastime. For many, especially historians that hold Rome in high regard, it s hard to believe that these
games were such a critical and pervasive component of Roman social life. To historians the games are
scandalous, a monstrous phenomenon, a morass or hatred and sadomasochism, (Meijer, pp. 2). The

Although Rome was an incredibly successful and wealthy society at it s peak, it was also plagued by
extreme levels of stratification and class conflict. Everybody had their place in society whether that
was a political member of the aristocracy, a regular plebeian farmer, or even a slave. The Roman
Empire went to great lengths to maintain these class divisions. Although many saw the Roman
colosseum as a symbol of unity, even this wasn t free of class division. In the lowest row of seats, on a
raised platform (podium) 4 metres above the arena, sat most prominent Romans, often dressed in
white togas. The emperor had the best seat of all in a kind of box (pulvinar) in the first row at the
centre of one of the longer sides of the arena, (Meijer, pp. 105). Although this class structure was
understood by Roman citizens, it wasn t always abided by. The common people and Gladiators alike
did have instances of revolution and revolt. In 73 BC, Spartacus the Gladiator led a relatively
successful gladiator/slave revolt, eighty gladiators escaped. The escape plan has been attributed to
three men, Spartacus, Crixus and Oenomaus, (Meijer, pp. 31). Although they did ultimately meet their
death, this instance illustrated the dissatisfaction of some Gladiators with the class system they found
themselves in. On the other hand if we

Values are virtues, ideals and qualities on which actions and beliefs are based. Values are guiding
principles that shape our world outlook, attitudes and conduct. (Dhunnoo. et al., n.d.). Human beings

religious institutions or the society itself. The school as an institution of education is responsible for
the cognitive and affective development of the learners. However in Mauritius, our primary school
curriculum has been focusing mainly on the cognitive domain since ages. Teaching is mostly done in a

Ella Enchanted Book Vs. The Movie
Ella Enchanted book vs. the movie Many books that were published years ago have recently been
made into movies. One of the well known books that have been made into a film is Ella Enchanted
(1997) by Gail Carson Levine. This book won several awards, including the Newbery Honor book in
1998. Ella enchanted, the Disney movie version was released in 2004. Anne Hathaway played the role
of Ella and it was directed by Tommy O Haver. The story talks about a girl named Ella who is cursed
at birth by a fairy named Lucinda. Lucinda cursed Ella with total obedience. Throughout the movie,
Ella was looking for Lucinda to undo the curse so she could live her life like all other girl and win the
love of her life, Prince Charmont. The book addresses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She meant to bestow a gift (3). When Lucinda cursed Ella, she thought that giving Ella full obedience
would be a gift, not thinking that this may affect her life and give people around her the chance to take
advantage of her. Olive and Hattie are Ella s stepsisters. Hattie is the one who was able to discover
Ella s curse. In the book, Hattie enjoyed commanding Ella. Ella gave Hattie her precious necklace
afterwards, Hattie commanded Ella to not be friends with Areida. Throughout the book and the movie,
Hattie and Olive are always jealous of Ella s beauty and of how well mannered she is and yet they
wanted to be friends with Ella. The reader will think how Hattie and Olive could be Ella s friends after
taking advantage of her. In the book, Hattie said Ella, you should give it to me. It would be a token of
our friendship. (37). Prince Charmont comes in both works as a young leader who was destined to
inherit the throne of the kingdom. When Prince Charmont met Ella, he fell in love with her humor and
her personality not knowing what she had as a curse. The book reviewer, Nancy Thackaberry from
VOYA, stated that the characters personalities and motives are comically crystal clear, but never
boring . She is saying that there is no real changing in the characters in the book, but it s not boring
because the romance and the fantasy that is presented in the book will keep the reader wanting to read
more. When it comes to comparing both works,

A Tale Of Commodities And Relevance
A Tale of Commodities and Relevance In Margaret Atwood s book, The Handmaid s Tale, the women
in the book often find themselves at the mercy of men and being used for the purpose of fulfilling man
s needs. They are more seen as property, than as humans themselves. The women are systemically
ranked for amount of use in the household and women who can give birth are often high ranked, but
not given much freedom. Over they do everything and are allowed nothing. The woman are not
allowed to read, have their own money, or to normal jobs outside of being maids or cooks. The woman
are often ranked in terms of colors with wives wearing blue, handmaids wear red, Maratha s wearing
green and Ecowives wearing stripes. The women are often seen as commodities and only relevant to
the needs of man. The Ceremony is the act in which the Commander, his wife(Serena Joy), and the
Handmaid(Offred) attempt to make a baby. While the women are both needed to be present, nether are
required to enjoy the act or to orgasm, the man s orgasm is the only important part of the act, seeing as
he need s to orgasm to get Offred pregnant. When in turn the act for all three of them is simply a duty
to be done. Offred see s the act as her duty, because she is a Handmaid and that is her single goal: To
get pregnant, but she does recognize it is a goal and duty for the Commander also, This is not
recreation, even for the Commander. This is serious business. The Commander, too, is doing his duty.

1. Describe how you can use operant conditioning principles to a) discontinue your undesired behavior
and b) replace that behavior with the desirable behavior you identified.
Since I was in middle school, I have always had the bad habit of biting my nails. In the past, I have
attempted to stop. I have tried to get acrylic nails, but I just ended up biting those too. I even made it
my New Year s resolution one year. So far, nothing has been successful. I would like to take this
opportunity to try and stop biting my nails once and for all.
The textbook defines operant conditioning as the process of modifying behavior through the use of
positive or negative consequences following specific behaviors. It is based on the notion that ... Show

I will attempt to use the operant conditioning method to stop biting my nails. I will reward my self by
adding a dollar to my manicure fund for each day I am successful in not biting my nails. I will also
plan to bring a stress ball to work and class. When I feel the urge to bite my nails, I will squeeze the
stress ball instead. I will replace my nail biting habit with using the stress ball.
During the first week, I earned 5 dollars. I slipped up and started to bite my nails during one of my
classes. I didn t even realize I was doing it for about 5 minutes. I also slipped up another day while
doing homework. I was successful in bringing my stress ball with me to class and work, but did not
find myself using it too often. I think I need to make more of an effort to take it out when I am at my
desk or in class.
After 19 days, I have earned the $14 I need treat myself to a manicure. Although it took me longer
than I had hoped for, I am very proud of myself for completing my first goal. Now, I hope to continue
with the system and treat myself to another manicure in 2 weeks. Although I would not consider this a
complete success, I have certainly improved on biting my nails less than I did before this exercise.
4. What do you consider to be your most important source of stress? Based on what you read about
how to cope with stress, what do you consider to be the best way to effectively cope with this source

Snail Farming
CHAPTER 1 1.0 INTRODUCTION
Snail meat has been consumed by humans throughout the world since prehistoric times. It is high
protein (12 16%) and irons (45 50mg/kg), low in fat (0.05 0.8%) and contains almost all the amino
acids needed by humans. In addition to the nutritional value of snail meat, a recent study has shown
that the glandular substances from edible snails cause agglutination of certain bacteria; this could be of
value against a variety of ailments, including whooping cough.
In Nigeria, Ghana and Cote d ivoire, where snail meat is particularly popular, snails are gathered from
the forest during the wet season. In recent years, however, wild snail populations have declined
considerably, primarily because of the impact of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A priority in setting up productive farming venture therefore, is to construct escape proof housing. The
first step is to select an appropriate site. There are a number of factors to consider in site selection. The
main ones are wind direction, soil characteristics and climate.
2.3.1 Wind speed and direction
Wind accelerates moisture loss in snails. To prevent snails from drying therefore, snaileries should be
situated in sites which are protected from the wind. Downhill sites, preferably where there is good
enough tree cover to reduce the impact of the wind, are usually the most suitable.
2.3.2 Soil characteristics
Soil is a major part of a snail s habitat and soil composition, water content and texture are important
factors to consider in site selection. The shell of a snail is made up mainly of calcium, most of which
is derived from the soil. Snails also derive most of their water requirement from the soil. They dig in
the soil to lay

  • 3. Counter Fire Task Force Mission Report I have been here in this Battalion for just under eleven months now; the main mission that the Battalion plays is to support the Counter Fire Task Force if North Korea were ever to attack. Within the Battalion there are three Batteries, two firing Batteries with M270 Multi Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS) assigned, a Headquarter and Headquarters Battery and a Forward Support Company (FSC). As I said in the introduction, I am only over here for one year; this means that every Soldier within the Battalion and the Brigade (echelon above Battalion) are only in position for one year. The Battalion Commander and Sergeant Major are in position for two years due to the nature of importance of the positions they hold within the Organization. Typically, ... Currently there is an incentive option to encourage Soldiers to extend for an additional year in Korea; this is known as the Assignment Incentive Pay (AIP) Option, where you get an additional three hundred dollars a month from the moment you sign the documents to extend until you leave the country. Although this is a nice option to have, many Soldiers and leaders still choose not to stay any longer than their one year obligation. As I see it the only way to get Soldiers and leaders to stay is to make them stay. To develop a proper way ahead and remain flexible to change as needed throughout the process, Kotter s eight step approach to change would allow for a good strategy rather than plan to allow for the Army to accomplish this mission. The first step on Kotter s approach is to develop a sense of urgency; just like most things in life, if you re not being pushed by someone of something to accomplish a task than you will wait and it may not get done to standard or at all. Step one, I would decide on a date that we would start implementing the normal accompanied tour and send out a MILPER message across the entire force to all active duty personnel s email. I would stress that we are transitioning back to the longer tour to enhance readiness and detour any aggressions from North Korea. With Soldiers returning with their families, there would a large need of construction of support facilities for these families; currently there are no schools on the instillation that I am assigned. The article, The Future of the Accounting Profession and the Value of the CPA. , illustrates the importance of the accounting profession and the challenges that accountants face. With over ten years of experience working in the areas of finance and office management, I have personal experience with various influences in the accounting world that were discussed in the article. This includes topics such as technological advancements, the merits of networking mentorship, the value of obtaining a CPA designation, accountancy education, and work life balance (WLB). The accounting profession continues to evolve alongside social trends and corporate developments, such as corporate social responsibility (CSR) and crowdfunding. In my previous position as Director of Finance Administration at Disability Rights International (DRI), I have traveled to many countries and conducted several international financial trainings and workshops to encourage education, transparency, and self sustainability to local partners and field offices. I have seen first hand how financial reporting and fiduciary responsibility is a powerful tool, which one can wield to impact and empower to promote social change. However the reverse is also true: social changes also affect financial reporting. • 5. Physician-Assisted Suicide Essay Is the role of a medical professional to ensure the well being of their patients, or to assist them in ending their lives? Many people may believe that physicians would never perform the latter, but in actuality one practice does so. Physician assisted suicide is the intentional ending of one s life brought on by lethal substances prescribed by a doctor. In the majority of cases, the patient is terminally ill and simply does not desire to live any longer. Their physician provides the medication necessary to end their life. Many supporters aver that this practice is merely an act of compassion as terminally ill persons may suffer extreme pain that eradicates any will to live. They also assert that the decision to die is of the patient s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Joe Messerli, Assisting in suicides would be a violation of that oath, and it would lead to a weakening of doctor patient trust (3). If doctors violate the oath, especially the above stated portions, patients may be inclined to question what other standards of medicine are being breached. Assisted suicides contravene medical ethics, as evidenced by the multiple violations of the Hippocratic Oath. Furthermore, the practice of assisted suicide has a significant possibility of being abused. Assisted suicides are designed to allow those who are seriously ill and suffer from extreme pain to easily end their lives (Braddock and Tenelli 1). Those who lack support from members of their family or friends may feel worthless and hence may desire to end their lives (Pretzer 2). If the patient has no loved ones to confide to and receive support from, they may feel as if no one cares and therefore no reason to live exists. Since assisted suicides are unregulated, doctors may allow patients wishing to die for subordinate reasons, such as the one previously stated, instead of suffering reasons to commit suicide. Moreover, Patients who want to die for psychological or emotional reasons could convince doctors to help them end their lives (Messerli 3). As stated before, assisted suicides are not meant to allow those with emotional or mental problems to end their lives. If someone has such problems, they should ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nixon, Kissinger And The Rise Of Realpolitik Nixon, Kissinger and the Rise of Realpolitik: A Neoclassical Realist Approach to US Foreign Policy, 1969 1974 POLI 346 Professor Mark Brawley TA: Alice Chessé Topic 16 The Rise of Realpolitik The Nixon Kissinger partnership is considered by academics and policymakers as one of the most powerful collaborations in the history of US foreign policy. Richard Nixon appointed Henry Kissinger, Jewish German émigré, as his national security advisor during his presidency. Although the two came from vastly different backgrounds, their bond was marked by a strong sense of cohesion and agreement on key foreign policy challenges, such as overextension in Vietnam and the looming Soviet threat. The unlikely pair went on to fundamentally change the trajectory of the Cold War, and to usher in a new era in East West relations. Nixon and Kissinger s foreign policy was predicated on the European tradition of realpolitik a pragmatic approach to politics where the the state s strategic interests supersede its parochial and ideological convictions. This was a departure from the status quo where foreign policy was in large part denominated in a state s moral principles. Nixon and Kissinger s foreign policy could be seen to fall under the rubric of neoclassical realism: it incorporates both the systemic conditions faced by the state, and the internal material resources at the state s disposal to respond to external threats. • 8. The Elements Of Screenwriting INTRODUCTION: Film scriptwriting, also known as screenwriting, is a unique process or technique of presenting each detail including the visuals of the scenes or any other related elements by compiling them into a written form. To write a particular film script, the scriptwriters have to take account of the elements in screenwriting to produce a good fulfilled script. Even though writing a film script depends on the genre chosen, the elements in it will not change. Each element in the structures plays an important role in order for the scriptwriters to produce as well as to sell their script to the filmmakers. Blacker (1986) wrote, A character in a film is a representation of a person exhibiting certain personality traits selected for a dramatic purpose. (The Elements of Screenwriting, p. 35). In a film, the characters exist to drive the story forward, to build tension within the story as they are about to bring the viewers into it. The scriptwriter will establish the characters which fit in the story, and the most vital characters are the protagonist and the antagonist. The central character or the protagonist who is decorated with special strong points has to endure and overcome such obstacles, or has a goal they want to reach in their life which will become the storyline the scriptwriter wanting to express. Opposite to the protagonist is the antagonist who is associated with malevolent behaviours or plans to create misery, to wreck or to mess up with the protagonist s life. It is important for the scriptwriter to introduce each character in their film script without making the description too broad or too specific. For an example, in 1969 s film, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, William Goldman had smoothly introduced a girl moving up behind Butch; its simple line of She is reasonably pretty, a little used. is enough to create an immediate impression of the ... • 11. The Literary Analysis Of Cold Harbor By John Reekie Throughout history, war has invariably been the solution to conflicts that arise between two opposing sides of mankind. As Bertrand Russell puts it, War does not determine who is right but who is left . The illustration, Cold Harbor by John Reekie, captures the aftermath of the Civil War as African Americans pick up the deceased soldiers from the battlefield. Cold Harbor is one of many pictures depicting the losses of the Civil War and, while it may evoke a part of the disturbances caused by the Civil War, it can never help one mentally reconstruct what the war was like. This picture aids in elucidating the fallacies of the Civil War by placing emphasis on the massive death toll and the economic motives that resulted in the persistence of prejudiced social constructs. The purpose of the illustration was to give an insightful eye into the aftermath of the war including how it affected Americans. The document seems to create a memoir. Given that things were posed in a specific way, it seems that the photo was intended to show the original location and source of the bones. In the document, it shows a group of African Americans picking up the remains of soldiers who died in the battle year before this. The remains are of soldiers from a battle because of the uniforms the bodies are wearing. Through showing the Americans the remains of the soldiers, it gives the war a sense of remorse and meaning. Although outwardly resenting such alleged vindictiveness. Willy still wants to get back the old comradeship, even if he has to buy it dearly. Why can t I give him something, he asks the spectral Ben, and not have him hate me? And his great final moment of joy and triumph occurs when he can exclaim, Isn t that remarkable? Biff he likes me! By becoming rich and influential, the handsome, personable Biff was slated to provide Willy s victorious reply to all not sufficiently impressed with his own modest advancement. By making his fortune in the business world, Biff would prove that Willy had been right in turning down Ben s adventurous challenge to head for Alaska. • 30. Literary Criticism In Cardinal Richelieu Alfredo Camacho Dr. Fontes CLAS 5 3 October 2017 Book Review Poetry is a form of art that serves the purpose to express the writer s opinions, and also combat oppressive forces without the use of any physical force. These writers can relate to the expression by the playwright and novelist Edward Bulwer Lytton in the play Cardinal Richelieu, The pen is mightier than the sword (BBC); this expression serves as a metaphor in its own right as the nature describes the effect of words to provide a stronger impact on the intended audience than any kind of violence would. This term ties in perfectly with the ideas of Chicanx; the Chicanx perspective of life is oppression and the dangers of racial tensions and manners to dethrone those who impose that on others. They have long fought against the unfair forces that have come against them, and have been involved in many violent forms of protest. With Cesar Chavez becoming more invested in the peaceful form of protesting to gain trust and momentum in the campaigns they were in, more and more writers began to express their feelings and place their own two cents into the mixture of ideas. Often long stories are made in effort to express a personal form of how life is changing and growing fears are turning into, however some writers chose to use poetry as their version of a weapon against the oppressing forces. A poem is much shorter and does not provide the sufficient build up that can be placed into a Chicano novel, but the effect of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In many books, it is common to see a relationship between two characters blossom as the story progresses. Evidence of this can be seen in The Birchbark House between two main characters, Omakayas and Old Tallow. From the beginning of the story, Omakayas feels a sense of connection with Old Tallow, but she is not able to pinpoint what exactly makes that connection between the two so strong. Through life experiences, maturity, and a sense of affection, Old Tallow and Omakayas s relationship grows continually throughout the novel. These interactions between the two helps the reader understand the role that Omakayas learns to embrace and flourish in in her community as she takes on the crucial role of the healer, as well as the steps it took to get there. The Birchbark House is not necessarily an action driven book, but one that focuses on the life experience that the community faces together. Omakayas and Old Tallow both face hardships throughout the novel, but they don t face them alone. One of the most substantial life experiences that the two faces together is the visitor. The Odyssey And Trojan Women HOMER AND EURIPIDES DEAL WITH THE SAME THEMES BUT IN DIFFERENT WAYS INTRO: Despite difference of around 400 years between them Greek poet Homer and tragedian playwright Euripides explore many of the same themes in their works the Odyssey and Trojan Women (written by each respectively). Both works are inspired by the events of 12th Century BCE Trojan War that Homer previously explored in the Iliad. The two examine the worth of cunning over brute strength, the dangers of temptation and the role of women in their respective time periods. Despite having extremely similar central ideas, the techniques employed by each are markedly different. These differences arise as the result of changes in socio historical contexts and format of each work s presentation, for example the critical shift of the 5th century which saw the rise of sophistry and a certain scepticism in regard to Athenian leadership and the very existence of the gods. PARA ONE: Socio Historical Context Homer s the Odyssey is an Epic poem written in the 8th Century BCE (the dark ages of Greece / the geometric period). Euripides Trojan Women was written in 415 BCE, after the great plague of Athens and the rise of sophistry. Both were written in Mycenaean Greece, and inspired by events of the fabled 12th Century Trojan War. Everybody had their place in society whether that was a political member of the aristocracy, a regular plebeian farmer, or even a slave. The Roman Empire went to great lengths to maintain these class divisions. Although many saw the Roman colosseum as a symbol of unity, even this wasn t free of class division. In the lowest row of seats, on a raised platform (podium) 4 metres above the arena, sat most prominent Romans, often dressed in white togas. The emperor had the best seat of all in a kind of box (pulvinar) in the first row at the centre of one of the longer sides of the arena, (Meijer, pp. 105).
