The Importance Of Self-Assessment In Mathematics
The results of this study have important implications for teachers. They suggest the need for
mathematics teachers to provide middle school students with relevant self assessment skills effective
for mathematics learning. The results also suggest that both low and average achievers can benefit
from the self assessment instruction and as such both achievers can explore the skills in self
assessment to enhance their mathematics achievement. Teachers of mathematics should therefore be
equipped with self assessment approach in teaching low and average mathematics achieving students.
This will help the students who have difficulties in some areas of mathematics to acquire the necessary
skills needed for successful learning of mathematics. Although self assessment increased mathematics
achievement of low and average mathematics achievers, self assessment had no effect on mathematics
achievement of high achievers. This result indicates the need for more evidence on the effect of self
assessment on mathematics achievement of high achievers and conditions lead to positive effects.
Second, the present research confirms that students subsequent learning goals to correct
misunderstandings and to extend learning is important to students success in math. This suggest that
mathematics teachers need to give students frequent opportunities to set personal goals based on their
difficulties. However, it is not enough that the teacher asks students to set goals, but there should be a

Joe Sacco Evaluating Visuals
Evaluating Visuals It s a visual world and people respond to visuals , Joe Sacco. Visuals add power,
interest and weight to a presentation. Visuals when added to a presentation not only help present the
information you are communicating, but also add color and emotion (Locker Kienzler, 2009). With the
recent changes in technology, and how easy it is to create visuals now has resulted presenters using
visuals without thought about the purpose the visual is fulfilling. Visuals should only be utilized when
they meet a need or want of the audience (Locker Kienzler, 2009). Visuals in a document or
presentation should be utilized for three purposes: to make points vivid, to emphasize material, and to
present material more compactly and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The visuals message that fear of accidents is overblown given the actual causes of death for
Americans is clear. A graph is the correct choice for conveying this information, but the 3D bar graph
utilized can distort the information conveyed. For example, the graph has heart disease as the base of
the pyramid, which makes sense given that heart disease was the leading cause of death for Americans
in 2003. But, the graph has other diseases as the middle of the pyramid and looks like that is the
largest group given how large its segment is. This distorts the information being presented. The
breakdown in accidental causes of death as well as other diseases creates chart junk. This information
could have been present compellingly as a series of three separate graphs (Locker Kienzler, 2009, p.
242). According to Hardin, Hom, Perez Williams (2012), showing related but different views in one
place is one of the most effective ways to get a complete picture of your data (p.

Leadership Opportunities Of The Youth Association Pee Wee...
Leadership opportunities abound not only in the work setting, but in churches, communities, and
neighborhoods as well. By taking on community leadership roles, individuals give back to the
community and gain valuable experience that will serve them well in the workplace. In my own
experience, I led the Chantilly Youth Association Pee Wee Soccer program for three years. In this
capacity, I created schedules, reserved fields and gyms, ordered uniforms, arranged for the training of
officials, collected money, and created teams for over 500 young children. I had a vision for the
program and helped it grow.
While Pee Wee Soccer is not rooted in a faith filled tradition, faith based leadership skills apply.
Running such a large program affords the opportunity to teach as Jesus did, at least with respect to
community and service, and gain valuable insight into organizational behavior. Perhaps the most
essential lesson learned is that to be successful, it is important to consider the needs of everyone
involved, and not merely the needs of a few.
Catholic School Leadership
The skills gained through Pee Wee Soccer prepared me well for the leadership roles I undertook in my
early years as a Catholic school teacher. Whether in the role as Math Committee chairperson or as
leader of the Word Study program, developing a vision, articulating that vision, and seeing it through
to completion helped me gain support from my peers and colleagues as I took on more responsibility

The Disappearance Analysis
The short story The Disappearance by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni basically is about an Indian man
who lived in America. At first, he married an educated Indian girl. However, she, unlike her husband,
did not have a traditional mindset. She eventually left him, and this was something which he could not
accept. He started to recall the times when she was with him. He was in a state of denial that his wife
could possibly leave him when he thought he had been good to him, and that he had done enough to
satisfy her. However, this was not the case. His wife wanted a modern husband one who would let her
have her say, and not only bringing her to Yosemite Park. He tried to forget about her, but he could not
do so. He then came across a light ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was also oppressed psychologically because she was restricted and could not live the life she
wanted even though they were living in a free country. She eventually escaped and left behind the
only product of their marriage which she really loved her son. This must be a hard decision for a
mother to leave her child behind, but we can say that she is not entirely irresponsible. This is because
chances of her child growing up normally like his peers would be unlikely if they were to be in hiding
everyday. By leaving her son behind, the wife could ensure that he would be taken care of, at least
financially, by her husband. She could not guarantee that for her child given the circumstances she
would be facing by escaping from her husband. So, this point here reinforces Feminist criticism.
However, there is also a quote in the story which undermines Feminist criticism. She d been out for
her evening walk, she took one every day after he got back from the office. Yes, yes, always alone, she
said that was her time for herself . Here, we can see that the wife was allowed to go for a walk every
evening. She was not really restricted to be at home 24/7. This point here then undermines Feminist
criticism.
Besides that, the characters can also show us whether the short story reinforces or undermines
Feminist criticism. There are two main characters in The Disappearance , which are the husband

Antigone As A Heroic Figure
Antigone
To introduce the play, Antigone, this essay will be showing some of the main story, and some of the
characters that are included in the play. Afterward, it will discuss the basic conflict in the play.
Specifically, the two individuals that are involved the basic conflict and what they represent in the
play. In conclusion, this essay will illustrate why Antigone qualifies as a heroic figure. But, in order
for the reader to understand Antigone, the reader must first know Oedipus. Oedipus has two daughters,
Antigone and Ismene two sons, Polyneices and Aeteocles. When Oedipus left the throne, Polyneices,
and Aetocles had agreed to letting Aetocles take over while Polyneices moved to another polis.
However, Polyneices disregard the agreement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Antigone s action could be considered as immature and impulsive. She understood the consequence of
violating Creon s order, but she still insisted. Ancient Greek believes that above the laws of man, there
are laws of the gods and Antigone also believe on it. She believes burying the decedent is a divine
responsibility, and more importantly, she believes that she has a greater responsibility to bury her
brother which was the reason for her actions. On the other hand, Creon s personality is definitely
opposite from Antigone s. He has a human made institution and a calculating action. This play has
illustrated each side of the tension and conflict of family and state.
Antigone and Creon are the two individuals involved in this basic conflict represent. The different
beliefs that they have in their life has made their character more significant. Antigone represents
females, families, nature and the laws of Gods and she s motivated by bloodline family. She is a heroic
character because of her strong faith towards some person s life and with God and goodness. On the
other side, Integrity of political state drives Creon to act because he is fairly new to being a King his
integrity of the political states is crucial to his personal characteristic and it is also his major

The Importance Of Rain In New Mexico
I saw a difference in all 4 states, maybe subtle differences but New Mexico was flatter, less rocky.
Rain caught us in New Mexico, huge water drops fell on the windows, I was almost afraid it would
break the glass. I was entranced by the view out my passenger side window. Big gray clouds hung
over us, they were so low I could see the water vapor. For some reason, this interested me so much.
Had they ever seen been that low in Las Vegas? It was cloudy the rest of the way. We stopped at a rest
stop where we overlooked the road and I could see in the distance the town of Las Cruces. I stood
there for a second and just thought about what was to come. There was some sort of energy in the air,
maybe it was just the fact that it had rained but it

Identity And Identity
Throughout history, one important question has stood out to us as a species: what defines us? What
makes a person who they are? Is it the way we look or act, or even what we eat? Andy Hinds, author
of his own blog Beta Dad and contributor to the New York Times blog Motherlode categorizes his
identity not by what he eats or wears, but by his differences from societal norms, namely his
disinterest in sports. Likewise, Larry Lehna, University of Michigan Dearborn graduate and
accomplished author of an autobiography, uses his experiences after getting out of prison to portray
how the change his environment and the views of others affected who he was. In a similar way, Dana
Canedy, author of A Journal for Jordan; A Story of Love and Honor and editor at the New York Times,
attempts to explain to her son the importance of embracing his culture and the dangers of rejecting it.
These authors display the universal truth that identity is shaped by societal views, environment, and
family history.
To begin, the views of society are often monumental in the moulding of one s identity. Hinds has felt
the societal pressures first hand in the form of sports shaming. Hinds, raised far from the influences of
any sports team, never really got into sports. As an adult, this has caused him many awkward
encounters of trying to go along with it or having to inform people of his disinterest in sports. He
recalls one such encounter of talking to his ...neighbor, a sports obsessed gay guy, [who] had

Coast Guard Case Summary
1. Current Coast Guard policy, reference (a), relies entirely on the Decedent Affairs Officer (DAO) as
a collateral duty. This responsibility for coordinating support services related to active duty, reserve
and dependents deaths is extremely time consuming and detracts from a DAO s normal duties. The
lack of a full time DAO to provide assistance to the family or next of kin (NOK) is stressful and
emotionally draining on the individual. The Decedent Affairs Officer needs to be streamlined into a
full time position under the command of the Personnel Service Center 2. There are 23 DAO s assigned
throughout the Coast Guard. Thirteen at Bases, Seven at training centers and three at other key units.
The DAO s responsibility is coordinating support ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The financial responsibility of funding a case initially falls on the DAO s unit. The average DAO case
costs $10k $13k dollars. This cost expenditure has the potential to affect unit readiness or meeting
mission requirements if funds are unavailable for other critical needs. Unit funds will not be
reimbursed from headquarters until all expenses have been expended and paid out. This can take
anywhere from 10 days to several weeks depending on the circumstances of the members death.
Requiring the unit to operate on a negative budget due to no fault of their own is unacceptable and
irresponsible. 5. Opponents will argue the Coast Guard can t afford to hire new personnel. Almost
certainly true, so use active duty personnel and make DAO a special assignment. Make it a two year
tour with a priority 3 assignment due to the sensitive nature of the position. This will provide a full
time billet as well as offer challenging opportunities and some sea going rates may see it as an
opportunity to get an ashore assignment. 6. Some may argue nothing is wrong with the current
process. Just because that is the way we have always done it, doesn t mean its right. There is always
room for improvement. Funding issues for individual units would be alleviated as all funeral costs
would be funded by PSC directly instead of having to reimburse the unit after the fact. This would
ensure unit readiness and funds availability for critical

Taking a Look at Optical Technologies
Q1:
The main pathway of color vision is as following: light⇒photoreceptor⇒ bipolar cell ⇒Ganglion
cell⇒ LGN ⇒ cortex⇒ extracortex. Here I will stress some key points of color vision.
1) photoreceptors ( mainly cones, because rods are sensitive to low light level and blind to color)
absorb light, and through photochemical reactions transfer solar energy to electrical energy which can
be indirectly displayed as action potential of cells. There are three cones: L, M, S cones respectively. L
cones are responsible to long wavelength; M for middle wavelength; and S for short wavelength. The
typical receptive field of cones is center and surround pattern. For example, on center Receptive Field
will maximally activate if the surrounding was dark and center was light on; the reverse is true for the
off center RF. There are two complementary theories of color vision: One of them is the dominant and
popular trichromatic theory, which argues that three types of cones (L, M, S) are sufficient to code the
color vision. However, Hering raised a different theory color opponent theory. He argued that there
were four elemental colors (R,Y, G, and B) not three. He also noted the pairing of R G, and of B Y.
Three cone types provides input to two different color opponent ganglion cells. For example, the
opponent neuron that produces the neural response we see as red or green gets excitation from the L
cones and inhibition from the M cones. When the L cones are more active than the M

Essay on Eliminating the National Endowment for the Arts
The National Endowment for the Arts is an independent agency of the federal government specifically
designed to support and enhances the art community for minority groups. The NEA was founded in
1965 and has controlled the art community ever since. This has aided in censoring works of
supposedly obscene and controversial art. The elimination of the NEA, or making it a private
organization, would free much needed public tax dollars to go to more important parts of the nations
budgets, as well as open the art communities up for the freedom to exhibit the controversial pieces of
art work the NEA deems inappropriate.
Congress created The National Endowment for the Arts in response to the National Foundation on the

The National Foundation on the Arts and Humanities Act of 1965 states that it is up to the Federal
Government to assist the local, state, regional and private agencies and artist in developing arts in the
communities in several different ways. It also states that the Federal Government is to encourage
freedom of thought, imagination, and inquiry but also the material conditions facilitating the release of
this creative talent. Lastly, the Act states that it is to fulfill an educational mission and make widely
available the greatest achievements of art National Foundation on the Arts and Humanities Act of

What the NEA set out to do and what it does are two different things. The NEA is first and foremost
set up as a nonpartisan branch of the government; however, throughout the past decade, the NEA has
been found in the pockets of many partisan politicians. An independent agency of the government is
supposedly not controlled by Democratic or Republic parties. In the past decade proof of political
control and gain has been proven to regulate the NEA. The parties use the NEA to gain political

The lives of Hiroshima survivors
sometimes in life, we find ourselves in dramatic events. Some extraordinary, some not. In Hiroshima,
an atomic bomb was dropped, causing devastating affects. In John Hersey s Hiroshima (a nonfictional
book), his book put you in a perspective that bombing Hiroshima was an act of inhumanity, which I
agree but if there s no making peace, what are we going to do. He never put the reader in the
perspective of the Americans. John is able to capture the events that occurred after the bombing by
recapping the suffering of the people. This took place in Hiroshima August 6, 1945.

Wes Anderson s Hotel Mise En Scene
Wes Anderson s The Grand Budapest Hotel is a cinematic piece that involves witty humor, wild
adventures, and several murders. One murder scene involved a predatory stalking of Deputy Kovacs
by Jopling, a hired henchman. The scene has many different film strategies that are used to instill
feelings of discomfort in the audience. Through use of exciting music coupled with minimal
background noise, subtle choices of lighting, and a few comedic elements, Wes Anderson cultivated a
fear in the viewer in efforts to shock the viewer with the scene s ending.
The syncopated music worked with reduced background noise and the amplification of more distinct
sounds in order to instill fear and apprehensiveness in the viewer. The scene starts with Kovacs ...

The first comedic element can been seen at the beginning of the scene: Kovacs has a coat check ticket
for his cat, murdered by Jopling in a prior scene. By having checked his cat s carcass at the front desk,
there is a hint of comedy, suggesting to viewers that the scene will be more lighthearted than it came
across. Yet the mere fact that Kovacs had to pick up the dead body of his pet that was killed by Jopling
is enough maintain the eerie energy of the scene. Soon after Kovacs and Jopling begin their cat and
mouse chase, Kovacs sought shelter in the Kunst Museum. As he enters the museum, a sign indicated
that it was only open for 15 more minutes. Kovacs rush into the museum prompted the manager to
check his watch and observe Kovacs rush up the stairs of the museum but he soon soon brushes it off.
The museum managers nonchalant attitude and the medium paced chase that ensues between Kovacs
and Jopling works to ease the sense of urgency in the scene thus confusing the viewer and giving them
conflicting feelings of uneasiness and ease. Altogether, these various comedic elements work to keep
the viewer moderately calm while other devices gradually intensify in order to collectively affect the

The Last of the Mohicans is set in 1757, during the French and Indian War when France and
Great Britain battled for control of North America. During this war, both the French and the British
used Native American allies, but the French were particularly dependent, as they were outnumbered in

How Does Disney Present Beauty In The Little Mermaid
Not only do you see the meaning of beauty that Disney presents in his protagonists, but his antagonists
too. Disney presents beauty trumps everything else is in The Little Mermaid. Ursula, the antagonist of
the story, is depicted as fat, ugly, and mean. This leaves you with the thought that it is okay to judge a
book by its cover. Without knowing the inside truth to Ursula, she is assumed to be the mean one who
takes something very valuable away from Ariel. In Snow White, the old, unattractive woman tempts
her to eat an apple that would kill her. In Cinderella, the three step sisters and the step mom all have
attitudes as mean as their looks. There s no proof that Disney pushes girls to be overly concerned with
looks, but it is definitely an underlying messages in every one of the princess films.
The way the female body is presented in Disney produced films represents current socio cultural
assumptions of what the female body should look like (Johnson). These princesses reflect social
standards of beauty. To be beautiful you must be young, thin, attractive, and elegant. ... Show more

Hollow Men Critical Analysis
Eliot s Hollow Men: A Depiction of Human Weakness
Analysis of desperation and man s weakness projects throughout the poem The Hollow Men. As the
focus of the author, he succeeds in depicting and registering the mood of personal weakness. Through
reading the poem, there is an air of despair, weakness, and disappointment. It is imperative to
acknowledge that the poem presents an order of events that are effective towards the depiction of
human weakness. For example, weakness is shown when the men are trapped in the desert in a given
bank of a river that is daunting to cross. The odd troubles of their current predicament describe to
perpetuate human weakness. This paper will evaluate human weakness as propagated by the poem,
The Hollow Men.
Is it like this, in death s other kingdom, waking alone is an important quote that depicts human
weakness in the face of various fears (Bush 20). For example, weaknesses express itself through the
curiosity of the characters as to whether or not heaven is as bad as their current environment.
Specifically, the notion of loneliness is evident in the quote as an important aspect circumventing
human weakness. Isolation is one of the feelings that follow. As such Sangi, Soomro, and Gopang
emphasize that Elliot is successful in showing that human beings are devoid of the evident qualities of
strength, determination and moral strength (473). Accordingly, in line with the heading, people behave
like empty bodies that lack the positive virtues

response to East Timor s independence referendum, outside aid has been essential to guiding its
development.
Political leadership in East Timor however has been an obstacle in the process of achieving actual
sustainable growth. Many leaders date to the period of Indonesian occupation and their leadership
styles reflect this. One example is the leadership style of its former Prime Minister Gusmao. Gusmao
was chiefly accused of leading neo patrimonially as a product of the resistance era mentality. Part of
these accusations come from his tendency to award contracts and consistently make purchasing
decisions without consulting the actual members of his cabinet. When advisors were consulted, they
were frequently other members of resistance groups dating back to Indonesian occupation. East Timor
s own laws are written to prevent such events, but the mentality of guerilla leadership has lead to the
idea officials can act unilaterally without a dialogue. Gusmao was replaced in 2015, but this makes up
the majority of the young nation s lifespan. Gusmao continues to hold office as the minister of
Finance, and several other major government positions are occupied by other resistance leaders.
Corruption is not an uncommon occurrence in developing nations, but

How The Nervous System Affects The Human Brain
Neurons are the basic data processing units for the human brain. Every neuron can receive 1000
electrical impulses from other neurons. Impulses that all come at the same time are added together
and, if they are strong enough, they can generate electrical discharge, which is known as action
potential or a nerve impulse. Neurons have a cell body or soma. Additionally, they have myelin.
Myelin allows nerve impulses to move quickly from one neuron to another, which makes rapid signal
transmission possible. It is a critical part of the nervous system and if it is not in a body it can be
devastating, which can be exhibited through multiple sclerosis. The nervous system plays an important
role in the body s ability to feel sensations and is made up of neurons, cells, and are necessary to
perform even the simplest tasks. Your body has billions of tree like processes that are involved in
sensing this information from the environment, relaying the information to your brain, and sending
information to carry out the act of answering your cell phone as a response to the initial sensory input.
There are a multitude of neurons in our bodies that are continuously communicating with each other to
help us perform everyday tasks. These communications are a way for the neurons to transmit
information between one another. This information is generally related to the physical actions and
feelings which the body performs. Neurons allow us to feel pain and other sensations which would

Rain drops splashed on top of the rooftop as the sun began to set .Amber hopped of the counter in the
kitchen and walked over to the fireplace were we were all sitting at. I opened up a can of ravioli and
poured it in a pan and began to warm it up on my portable cooking stove. Amber sat beside me as we
felt the warmth of the fireplace. Eve was rocking back in forth in the corner her face in her knees eyes
not blinking as she seemed to be in deep thought. I focused my attention on Isamu who was staring
out the window staring at the rain his hands behind his back probably contemplating what he will say.
He turned around and looked at me and Amber and released his hands behind his back .

The Use of Parallelism in Fahrenheit 451 Essays
The book that will be reviewed is Fahrenheit 451, written by Ray Bradbury. The author used the effect
of parallelism extremely well by showing the similarities of both then and now. In the following
paragraphs we re going to encounter these parallelisms, we will compare the book to the time period
in which it was written, and our own time period post September 11. Before we can do this we must
first get to know the author and the era in which it was based off of just a bit.
To get a clear view and understanding of the book, first must review the time period in history. The
book was written in the mid 1950 s during the cold war. Former General McCarthy, then U.S. Senator
started a fire ball of suspicion, suppression, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People in that time period just wanted to distance themselves from anyone on the list due to the
government s overwhelming power, and the intense fear of losing everything they had. This society
lived when communism was feared; it ate up the freedoms they had in their society. The rights and
freedoms that were once taken for granted were now longed for. Now that there is a brief
understanding of the time period we can now take a look at the book.
The governmental control of the society in Fahrenheit 451 is unbelievable; it s unbelievable to think
that the government could have so much control. The government has so much control due to the loss
of individuality caused by conformity. According to the author, They all say the same things and
nobody says anything different from anyone else (Bradbury 31). This was done in several ways; some
of the ways were through the lack of books, education (or what we believe education to be), and the
lack of teachers. The influence (pure control) of the government over the media, education, and any
literature that was available to the public. The media and entertainment is controlled by the
government to the point that its citizens have better relationships with media personalities than with
their own families. The government grasped the rights of education by not educating and allowing its
students to run a muck. According to the author, Clarisse I m afraid of children my own age. They kill

Mary Rowlandson vs Anne Bradstreet Essay
Mary Rowlandson and Anne Bradstreet are two women with different stories and one similar faith.
Their similar faith in God and passion for writing allowed the two women to survive the contrast of
hardships each woman had to endure. Furthermore, in this essay, I will compare and contrast the lives
and faith of Rowlandson and Bradstreet. In the story Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of
Mrs. Mary Rowlandson written by Mary Rowlandson herself, we read that she is taken captive by a
group of Indians. Rowlandson was torn away from husband, children, and town. Everything she had
ever known was taken away from her in an instant and she was taken to unfamiliar territory with her
youngest daughter in tow. If being took captive wasn t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If it wasn t for those things, Rowlandson would have most likely developed a mental illness. Similarly,
Bradstreet, like Rowlandson, also became very lonely, despite having her children around for her
husband was gone a lot of the time. Simon [Bradstreet s] political duties kept him traveling to various
colonies on diplomatic errands, so Anne would spend her lonely days and nights reading from her
father s vast collection of books, and educating her children. (annebradstreet.com) As you can see,
Anne was left alone with her children most of the time.
Mary Rowlandson was kidnapped unlike Bradstreet. Because Rowlandson was kidnapped, this
influenced a lot of things in her life. More specifically, Rowlandson s writing. Rowlandson used her
experience to influence her writing, teach other people moral lessons, and educate them on the dangers
of the outside world. From the multiple biblical references in her narrative, I cannot help but come to
the conclusion that Rowlandson is not just putting the verses in there for herself. But that she is trying
to teach the reader a lesson by telling them not to stray from God when times are tough, and not to
move from salvation. On the contrary, Bradstreet was far from being kidnapped. Because Bradstreet
had different experiences than Rowlandson, the themes and messages behind her poetry is different
than Mary s. Bradstreet s poetry was mostly about her own feelings. According to one

The Autobiography of Malcom X by Alex Haley
The Autobiography of Malcolm X as told by Alex Haley is about a man who forever changed
America. Malcolm X, born Malcolm Little and also known as El Hajj Malik El Shabazz spoke out
against the effects of discrimination, racism and segregation. He went through many different stages in
his life as he fought for equal treatment of colored individuals. The three stages that really changed the
way Malcolm X thought were his experiences while incarcerated, his entering into the religion of
Islam by following Elijah Muhammad, and the biggest turning point in his life, his first and last
pilgrimage to the holy Islamic city of Mecca. In all of Malcolm teachings, in his transformations and
actions we can derive different viewpoints. While Malcolm X was incarcerated he had completed his
first transformation in life. Like many past greats, they all suffered a low point in their lives. Malcolm
X s low point was when he was into the usage of drugs, hustling, and money. He became so focused
on making a lot of money, so much so that he and some of his friends decided to rob a house of an
elderly white man. Malcolm and his friends were immediately caught for the crime and not only were
they charged but were also charged with having sexual intercourse with white women. A white woman
having any sort of sexual relation with a colored individual was extremely frowned upon. Malcolm
and his friend, who went by the nickname, Shorty were found guilty and sentenced to six years behind

Descriptive Essay On A Beach
For this assignment I decided to head out to Docweiler Beach near LAX. I love the beach, not so
much for going swimming or getting wet but more to lay in the sand and just relax to the soothing
sound of the waves, especially nice in this hot weather. I decided to bring my sister for the ride so it s
not to lonely and set up around a more deserted part for more concentration and relaxation. I also
chose Dockweiler Beach because there I could get a sense of all the 5 ancient elements all in one
sitting, with all the elements interacting. Water clashing against the sand to create a calming sound, the
wind riding against the waves causes a cool chill down my spine and the man made fire to keep warm.
I can feel the earth element in the sand getting in my toes and all over my clothes to later find more in
my underwear. The Air element is strong along the beach, getting my hair all over my face as well as
making kites fly high. I see the fire element being used to light the bonfires along the beach to keep
people warm on the windy beach or to probably make S mores. The water element as I can see is the
giant ocean in front of me going as far as I can see with no ending. Another reason I don t like going
into the water, the ocean is terrifying especially when you don t know how to swim. Then there is the
void element which in this case is me and my mind observing this presence and writing it out in this
essay. Officially today there is a total of 118 elements in the periodic table. These ancient four
elements originated from the ancient Greeks and then the fifth element aether (void) was added by
Aristotle. Before the fifth element the first four elements which were earth, wind, water, and fire,
represented to the ancient Greeks as well as modern science the four states of matter. In these 4 states
of matter we have solid representing the earth element, liquid representing the water element, gas
representing the air element, and plasma representing the fire element. The ancient 5 elements are
active is every bodies daily routine schedule. It s something we see every day and don t notice the
affects they have on us. Looking more closely to everyday life we have earth. Earth is what we walk

Melino(William s wife). Nevertheless, Julian becomes beautiful to try to impress William, so she is
could be kept by him. At the ceremony with thousands of Tulim people Julian had the power, all eyes
were on her, like the eyes of a cat on a mouse, this was her time. She sung the same song from her
dreams. She started to sing Amazing Grace in front of all the people, she needed to impress William,
because he is the only one that can save her from Kirutu. She sang one song that changed everything.
William defended Julian and took her as a new wife. Nevertheless, Julian was finally accepted at the
price of a war between two brothers, three tribes, and the valley of Tulim. Overall, the story of Julian
Carter is a breathtaking one. She is the woman with no fear, she started a new life from nothing, but at
what price is still to figure out. Was the risk she took really worth what will happen. She had found her
fate, she accepted what was happening, and she had started her new life in the Tulim

The Cause of Globalization
Garrett / CAUSES OF GLOBALIZATION COMPARATIVE POLITICAL STUDIES / August
September 2000 The most important causes of globalization differ among the three major components
of international market integration: trade, multinational production, and international finance. The
information technology revolution has made it very difficult for governments to control cross border
capital movements, even if they have political incentives to do so. Governments can still restrict the
multinationalization of production, but they have increasingly chosen to liberalize because of the
macroeconomic benefits. Although the one time Ricardian gains from freer trade are clear, whether
trade is good for growth in the medium term is less certain. In the case of ... Show more content on

What are the causal relationships among these three trends? The second perspective, technological
determinism, contends that the shrinkage of time and space has been so dramatic and so pervasive that
there is essentially nothing that can be done to stop it. According to this view, technological changes
have propelled international economic activity, and governments have been largely irrelevant. Thus,
policy liberalization should be understood as governments acknowledging the futility of trying to
resist globalization, rather than acting as a prime mover behind market integration. Management gurus
such as Ohmae (1995) have propounded this view, and political scientists such as Rosecrance (1999)
and Strange (1998) use it as the starting point of their analyses. The case for a technologically
determined view of globalization is far stronger with respect to international finance than to
multinational production or trade. In the era of 24 hour global trading in a seemingly limitless array of
financial instruments, governments can only hope marginally to influence control cross border liquid
capital movements. In contrast, though 2. See Drezner (1998) and Guillen (in press) for recent reviews

Is Activity Based Costing ( Abc ) Essay
The first cost system of this part of this essay is activity based costing (ABC). Cooper and Kaplan
(1988) implemented ABC for taking care of issues of Traditional costing frameworks.
For allocating costs, Tradtional costing uses a single number like the machine hours or the direct
labour hour, also cost allocations are volume based. Comparing ABC with Traditional Costing
Systems, ABC include all activities for a product, to making it easier to more accurately measure and
allocate costs (Cooper, 1990; Cokins, Strat ton, Helbling, 1993).
It moves away from assigning costs to individual products but rather to activities or processes, which
allows for assigning a larger part of overhead costs to specific cost units (Cooper Kaplan, 1988;
Friedman Lyne, 1997).
Also important to know is that ABC define all the company activities as value adding or non value
adding activities (Cooper Kaplan, 2005). Non value added activities create waste, result in
postponement, add expenses to the items, or for which cost clients are not willing to pay. ABC helps
an association in discovering chances to streamline or lessen the expenses, or wipes out the whole
movement, particularly if there is no esteem added viewpoint to it (Drury, 2012).
Many have the believe that ABC is better than Traditional Costing because ABC say more about the
driven costs, and can split on any single activity and receives so more accurate cost details (Akyol,
Tuncel, Bayhan, 2007; Kee, 1995). As per this,

The Shroud Of Turin Analysis
The Shroud of Turin is a centuries old linen cloth bearing the image of a man who appears to have

Frederick Zugibe examined the Shroud and how accurately the injuries matched the process of
crucifixion. He looked at how the nails were driven through the hands and feet. The shroud shows a
pool of blood near the one visible wrist and the feet looked punctured as if by one nail. Also, as the
romans strike the nail into each hand, the nerve damage causes the thumb to twist inward and under
the palms. A thorough examination of the shroud revealed exactly this. The thumbs were hidden
underneath the palms, just as one would expect. The facial imprint wasn t symmetrical and showed
signs of a beating.
Blood flowing from small cuts that seeped into the material made by the crown of thorns accurately
matched the trail the liquid would follow when the forehead muscles contract in pain. Lacerations
covered the back and a pool of blood was identified in the upper side of the torso, with blood flowing
down from that place. All these injuries were consistent with Jesus described execution. Zugibe stated
that from the Forensic Pathology point of view, it is totally consistent with a crucified individual. I

Glorification Of Nature In Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
The power and glorification of nature and how it can be a spiritual source of renewal for individuals is
highlighted through the works of artists of the Romantic period. Rime of the Ancient Mariner by
Samuel Coleridge and Blueback by Tim Winton both display the influences that nature can have on an
individual, spiritually and emotionally, and presents a clearer understanding of the natural world.
The poem by Samuel Coleridge, Rime of the Ancient Mariner depicts a strong belief and interest in
nature and how the natural world can be a place where God can be found. The contrast between the
language of the quotes slimy things and O happy living things demonstrates this change in perspective
as the narrator realises the beauty of nature. During his punishment, the Mariner was able to see the
real beauty of nature and as a result, he had the ability to rejoice and pray about what he was seeing.
By recognising the elegance in the environment that surrounded him, it enabled the Mariner to be free
from his imprisonment. Like the belief in God, the Mariner first feared but finally loved the natural
elements of the world. Throughout the journey, the wonder and beauty of nature and how it can be a
spiritual finding is brought into focus.
Through the use of a metaphor in the quote As if it had been a Christian soul, we hailed it in God s
name. it reveals that the albatross was seen as a connection to God. The albatross was seen as a good
omen and it was the first sign of life

convinced that proprietary software seems to be more compelling than the rest. However, with the

If this is the case, then why would a company choose proprietary software when even its own
developers are starting to realize that they themselves may benefit more from buying into the open
source model? While researching the question posed, and trying to get a better understanding of all the
different types of software, I came across many arguments of open vs. proprietary. Many of the
arguments that I read, the writers all had good information to support their opinion of which type of
software they thought was best. One article that I found interesting was posted on a website
(http://www.geekzone.co.nz/foobar/5204), and it proposed that the debate of Open source vs.
Proprietary be turned around to Proprietary software vs. Open . The writer of this article posed the
question, Why is proprietary the default and not open source? After carefully researching the different
types of software, I found myself asking the same question. If you look closely at all of the so called
compelling advantages that people tend to think proprietary software has over open, you would clearly
see that they aren t all that compelling. One of the arguments raised has to do with support. There is
this belief that proprietary software offers better support......is this only because many consumers feel

Nutrition Admission Essay Sample
I am interested in the nutrition program at MUIH for a variety of reasons. I have a passion for learning
how nutrients and food can significantly impact the body and a desire to share and help individuals
reach their health and wellness goals. Additionally, this program will provide me with the opportunity
to step foot into a career focused on preventative health. One of my passions in life has consistently
been about food, nutrition and wellness. As a small child, I was inspired by my mother and her
journey back to school to become a nutritionist. Consistently throughout my childhood, I was guided

improved just through something as simple as the food they eat. This in turn educates the community
about their options and increased knowledge leads to an increased sense of empowerment. Nothing is
more gratifying to me than helping someone feel more empowered about their

For example, the graph has heart disease as the base of the pyramid, which makes sense given that heart disease was the leading cause of death for Americans in 2003. But, the graph has other diseases as the middle of the pyramid and looks like that is the largest group given how large its segment is. This distorts the information being presented. The breakdown in accidental causes of death as well as other diseases creates chart junk. This information could have been present compellingly as a series of three separate graphs (Locker Kienzler, 2009, p. 242). • 8. Leadership Opportunities Of The Youth Association Pee Wee... Leadership opportunities abound not only in the work setting, but in churches, communities, and neighborhoods as well. By taking on community leadership roles, individuals give back to the community and gain valuable experience that will serve them well in the workplace. In my own experience, I led the Chantilly Youth Association Pee Wee Soccer program for three years. In this capacity, I created schedules, reserved fields and gyms, ordered uniforms, arranged for the training of officials, collected money, and created teams for over 500 young children. I had a vision for the program and helped it grow. While Pee Wee Soccer is not rooted in a faith filled tradition, faith based leadership skills apply. Running such a large program affords the opportunity to teach as Jesus did, at least with respect to community and service, and gain valuable insight into organizational behavior. Perhaps the most essential lesson learned is that to be successful, it is important to consider the needs of everyone involved, and not merely the needs of a few. Catholic School Leadership The skills gained through Pee Wee Soccer prepared me well for the leadership roles I undertook in my early years as a Catholic school teacher. Whether in the role as Math Committee chairperson or as leader of the Word Study program, developing a vision, articulating that vision, and seeing it through to completion helped me gain support from my peers and colleagues as I took on more responsibility and further ... • 9. The Disappearance Analysis The short story The Disappearance by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni basically is about an Indian man who lived in America. At first, he married an educated Indian girl. However, she, unlike her husband, did not have a traditional mindset. She eventually left him, and this was something which he could not accept. He started to recall the times when she was with him. He was in a state of denial that his wife could possibly leave him when he thought he had been good to him, and that he had done enough to satisfy her. However, this was not the case. His wife wanted a modern husband one who would let her have her say, and not only bringing her to Yosemite Park. He tried to forget about her, but he could not do so. He then came across a light ... She eventually escaped and left behind the only product of their marriage which she really loved her son. This must be a hard decision for a mother to leave her child behind, but we can say that she is not entirely irresponsible. This is because chances of her child growing up normally like his peers would be unlikely if they were to be in hiding everyday. By leaving her son behind, the wife could ensure that he would be taken care of, at least financially, by her husband. She could not guarantee that for her child given the circumstances she would be facing by escaping from her husband. So, this point here reinforces Feminist criticism. However, there is also a quote in the story which undermines Feminist criticism. She d been out for her evening walk, she took one every day after he got back from the office. Yes, yes, always alone, she said that was her time for herself . Here, we can see that the wife was allowed to go for a walk every evening. She was not really restricted to be at home 24/7. This point here then undermines Feminist criticism. Besides that, the characters can also show us whether the short story reinforces or undermines Feminist criticism. • 13. Identity And Identity Throughout history, one important question has stood out to us as a species: what defines us? What makes a person who they are? Is it the way we look or act, or even what we eat? Andy Hinds, author of his own blog Beta Dad and contributor to the New York Times blog Motherlode categorizes his identity not by what he eats or wears, but by his differences from societal norms, namely his disinterest in sports. Likewise, Larry Lehna, University of Michigan Dearborn graduate and accomplished author of an autobiography, uses his experiences after getting out of prison to portray how the change his environment and the views of others affected who he was. In a similar way, Dana Canedy, author of A Journal for Jordan; A Story of Love and Honor and editor at the New York Times, attempts to explain to her son the importance of embracing his culture and the dangers of rejecting it. These authors display the universal truth that identity is shaped by societal views, environment, and family history. To begin, the views of society are often monumental in the moulding of one s identity. Hinds has felt the societal pressures first hand in the form of sports shaming. Hinds, raised far from the influences of any sports team, never really got into sports. • 15. Taking a Look at Optical Technologies Q1: The main pathway of color vision is as following: light⇒photoreceptor⇒ bipolar cell ⇒Ganglion cell⇒ LGN ⇒ cortex⇒ extracortex. Here I will stress some key points of color vision. 1) photoreceptors ( mainly cones, because rods are sensitive to low light level and blind to color) absorb light, and through photochemical reactions transfer solar energy to electrical energy which can be indirectly displayed as action potential of cells. There are three cones: L, M, S cones respectively. L cones are responsible to long wavelength; M for middle wavelength; and S for short wavelength. The typical receptive field of cones is center and surround pattern. For example, on center Receptive Field will maximally activate if the surrounding was dark and center was light on; the reverse is true for the off center RF. There are two complementary theories of color vision: One of them is the dominant and popular trichromatic theory, which argues that three types of cones (L, M, S) are sufficient to code the color vision. However, Hering raised a different theory color opponent theory. He argued that there were four elemental colors (R,Y, G, and B) not three. He also noted the pairing of R G, and of B Y. Three cone types provides input to two different color opponent ganglion cells. For example, the opponent neuron that produces the neural response we see as red or green gets excitation from the L cones and inhibition from the M cones. When the L cones are more active than the M ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Impulses that all come at the same time are added together and, if they are strong enough, they can generate electrical discharge, which is known as action potential or a nerve impulse. Neurons have a cell body or soma. Additionally, they have myelin. Myelin allows nerve impulses to move quickly from one neuron to another, which makes rapid signal transmission possible. It is a critical part of the nervous system and if it is not in a body it can be devastating, which can be exhibited through multiple sclerosis. The nervous system plays an important role in the body s ability to feel sensations and is made up of neurons, cells, and are necessary to perform even the simplest tasks. Your body has billions of tree like processes that are involved in sensing this information from the environment, relaying the information to your brain, and sending information to carry out the act of answering your cell phone as a response to the initial sensory input. There are a multitude of neurons in our bodies that are continuously communicating with each other to help us perform everyday tasks. (annebradstreet.com) As you can see, Anne was left alone with her children most of the time. Mary Rowlandson was kidnapped unlike Bradstreet. Because Rowlandson was kidnapped, this influenced a lot of things in her life. More specifically, Rowlandson s writing. Rowlandson used her experience to influence her writing, teach other people moral lessons, and educate them on the dangers of the outside world. From the multiple biblical references in her narrative, I cannot help but come to the conclusion that Rowlandson is not just putting the verses in there for herself. But that she is trying to teach the reader a lesson by telling them not to stray from God when times are tough, and not to move from salvation. On the contrary, Bradstreet was far from being kidnapped. Because Bradstreet had different experiences than Rowlandson, the themes and messages behind her poetry is different than Mary s. Bradstreet s poetry was mostly about her own feelings. According to one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. The Autobiography of Malcom X by Alex Haley The Autobiography of Malcolm X as told by Alex Haley is about a man who forever changed America. Malcolm X, born Malcolm Little and also known as El Hajj Malik El Shabazz spoke out against the effects of discrimination, racism and segregation. He went through many different stages in his life as he fought for equal treatment of colored individuals. The three stages that really changed the way Malcolm X thought were his experiences while incarcerated, his entering into the religion of Islam by following Elijah Muhammad, and the biggest turning point in his life, his first and last pilgrimage to the holy Islamic city of Mecca. In all of Malcolm teachings, in his transformations and actions we can derive different viewpoints. While Malcolm X was incarcerated he had completed his first transformation in life. Like many past greats, they all suffered a low point in their lives. Malcolm X s low point was when he was into the usage of drugs, hustling, and money. He became so focused on making a lot of money, so much so that he and some of his friends decided to rob a house of an elderly white man. Malcolm and his friends were immediately caught for the crime and not only were they charged but were also charged with having sexual intercourse with white women. A white woman having any sort of sexual relation with a colored individual was extremely frowned upon. • 30. Descriptive Essay On A Beach For this assignment I decided to head out to Docweiler Beach near LAX. I love the beach, not so much for going swimming or getting wet but more to lay in the sand and just relax to the soothing sound of the waves, especially nice in this hot weather. I decided to bring my sister for the ride so it s not to lonely and set up around a more deserted part for more concentration and relaxation. I also chose Dockweiler Beach because there I could get a sense of all the 5 ancient elements all in one sitting, with all the elements interacting. Water clashing against the sand to create a calming sound, the wind riding against the waves causes a cool chill down my spine and the man made fire to keep warm. I can feel the earth element in the sand getting in my toes and all over my clothes to later find more in my underwear. The Air element is strong along the beach, getting my hair all over my face as well as making kites fly high. I see the fire element being used to light the bonfires along the beach to keep people warm on the windy beach or to probably make S mores. The water element as I can see is the giant ocean in front of me going as far as I can see with no ending. Another reason I don t like going into the water, the ocean is terrifying especially when you don t know how to swim. Then there is the void element which in this case is me and my mind observing this presence and writing it out in this essay. Officially today there is a total of 118 elements in the periodic table. These ancient four elements originated from the ancient Greeks and then the fifth element aether (void) was added by Aristotle. Before the fifth element the first four elements which were earth, wind, water, and fire, represented to the ancient Greeks as well as modern science the four states of matter. In these 4 states of matter we have solid representing the earth element, liquid representing the water element, gas representing the air element, and plasma representing the fire element. The ancient 5 elements are active is every bodies daily routine schedule. It s something we see every day and don t notice the affects they have on us. The Cause of Globalization Garrett / CAUSES OF GLOBALIZATION COMPARATIVE POLITICAL STUDIES / August September 2000 The most important causes of globalization differ among the three major components of international market integration: trade, multinational production, and international finance. The information technology revolution has made it very difficult for governments to control cross border capital movements, even if they have political incentives to do so. Governments can still restrict the multinationalization of production, but they have increasingly chosen to liberalize because of the macroeconomic benefits. What are the causal relationships among these three trends? The second perspective, technological determinism, contends that the shrinkage of time and space has been so dramatic and so pervasive that there is essentially nothing that can be done to stop it. According to this view, technological changes have propelled international economic activity, and governments have been largely irrelevant. Thus, policy liberalization should be understood as governments acknowledging the futility of trying to resist globalization, rather than acting as a prime mover behind market integration. Management gurus such as Ohmae (1995) have propounded this view, and political scientists such as Rosecrance (1999) and Strange (1998) use it as the starting point of their analyses. The case for a technologically determined view of globalization is far stronger with respect to international finance than to multinational production or trade. In the era of 24 hour global trading in a seemingly limitless array of financial instruments, governments can only hope marginally to influence control cross border liquid capital movements. • 35. Is Activity Based Costing ( Abc ) Essay The first cost system of this part of this essay is activity based costing (ABC). Cooper and Kaplan (1988) implemented ABC for taking care of issues of Traditional costing frameworks. For allocating costs, Tradtional costing uses a single number like the machine hours or the direct labour hour, also cost allocations are volume based. Comparing ABC with Traditional Costing Systems, ABC include all activities for a product, to making it easier to more accurately measure and allocate costs (Cooper, 1990; Cokins, Strat ton, Helbling, 1993). It moves away from assigning costs to individual products but rather to activities or processes, which allows for assigning a larger part of overhead costs to specific cost units (Cooper Kaplan, 1988; Friedman Lyne, 1997). Also important to know is that ABC define all the company activities as value adding or non value adding activities (Cooper Kaplan, 2005). Non value added activities create waste, result in postponement, add expenses to the items, or for which cost clients are not willing to pay. ABC helps an association in discovering chances to streamline or lessen the expenses, or wipes out the whole movement, particularly if there is no esteem added viewpoint to it (Drury, 2012). Many have the believe that ABC is better than Traditional Costing because ABC say more about the driven costs, and can split on any single activity and receives so more accurate cost details (Akyol, Tuncel, Bayhan, 2007; Kee, 1995). Frederick Zugibe examined the Shroud and how accurately the injuries matched the process of crucifixion. He looked at how the nails were driven through the hands and feet. The shroud shows a pool of blood near the one visible wrist and the feet looked punctured as if by one nail. Also, as the romans strike the nail into each hand, the nerve damage causes the thumb to twist inward and under the palms. A thorough examination of the shroud revealed exactly this. The thumbs were hidden underneath the palms, just as one would expect. The facial imprint wasn t symmetrical and showed signs of a beating. Blood flowing from small cuts that seeped into the material made by the crown of thorns accurately matched the trail the liquid would follow when the forehead muscles contract in pain. Lacerations covered the back and a pool of blood was identified in the upper side of the torso, with blood flowing down from that place. • 38. Glorification Of Nature In Rime Of The Ancient Mariner The power and glorification of nature and how it can be a spiritual source of renewal for individuals is highlighted through the works of artists of the Romantic period. Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Coleridge and Blueback by Tim Winton both display the influences that nature can have on an individual, spiritually and emotionally, and presents a clearer understanding of the natural world. The poem by Samuel Coleridge, Rime of the Ancient Mariner depicts a strong belief and interest in nature and how the natural world can be a place where God can be found. The contrast between the language of the quotes slimy things and O happy living things demonstrates this change in perspective as the narrator realises the beauty of nature. During his punishment, the Mariner was able to see the real beauty of nature and as a result, he had the ability to rejoice and pray about what he was seeing. By recognising the elegance in the environment that surrounded him, it enabled the Mariner to be free from his imprisonment. Like the belief in God, the Mariner first feared but finally loved the natural elements of the world. Throughout the journey, the wonder and beauty of nature and how it can be a spiritual finding is brought into focus. Selecting Proprietary, Open Source, or Free Software for Business Information Systems At first glance, the question above would probably lead you to believe that proprietary software should be the obvious choice when selecting between the different types simply because of the reference to the words most important. You could also look at the definitions of the three and be convinced that proprietary software seems to be more compelling than the rest. However, with the recent developments with software in general, I would have to agree with those that argue that open source should be the first choice for any kind of software, and that considering proprietary software should only be an option if it has very specific and valuable features ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [4] If this is the case, then why would a company choose proprietary software when even its own developers are starting to realize that they themselves may benefit more from buying into the open source model? While researching the question posed, and trying to get a better understanding of all the different types of software, I came across many arguments of open vs. proprietary. Many of the arguments that I read, the writers all had good information to support their opinion of which type of software they thought was best. One article that I found interesting was posted on a website (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/foobar/5204), and it proposed that the debate of Open source vs. Proprietary be turned around to Proprietary software vs. Open . After carefully researching the different types of software, I found myself asking the same question.
