Use Of Mobile Phones On Teenagers
Abuse of Mobile Phones by Teenagers
Have you ever buried your face in your smartphone for hours? Have you missed out on events or
told your friends you couldn t hang out because you just wanted to stay at home and watch Netflix
or play video games? If so, you probably have, or have previously had, an addiction to technology.
The first Apple iPhone was only released ten years ago, and it is becoming a bigger issue for this
generation s teenagers. Teenagers are abusing modern technology it s affecting them and others
negatively because it encourages irritability and depression, discourages face to face interaction,
and puts teenager s privacy and safety at risk.
To begin, technology affects teenagers mindset negatively. First, it can result in a lack of
chemicals, such as melatonin, a chemical triggered in your brain that helps you reach a state of
relaxation. This can be faulty to a regular sleep basis of a teenager, and it can take away from the
eight to ten hours of sleep that teenagers need, according to multiple studies. According to Dr .
Lawrence J. Epstein, People who have problems with sleep are at increased risk for developing
emotional disorders, depression, and anxiety. Not only does sleep trigger anger, but
competitiveness does as well; multiple forms of social media support this idea that having more
friends is better, even if you don t know who they are. The more followers you have, the more
liked, respected and admired you are by your fellow peers. Some

36). Teaster and Blieszner (1999) say the term distance learning has been applied to many
instructional methods: however, its primary distinction is that the teacher and the learner are
separate in space and possibly time (p. 741). However, distance learning is not a new phenomenon.
The history of distance education could be traced back to the early 1700s in the form of
correspondence education, but technology based distance education might be best linked to the
introduction of audiovisual devices into the schools in the early 1900s. With the development of the
postal service in the 19th century, commercial correspondence colleges provided distance education
to students across the country. This trend continued well into the 20th century with the advent of
radio, television, and other media that allowed learning from distance. In the last decade, distance
education has changed significantly with the use of computer mediated learning, two way
interactive video, and a variety of other technologies. Colleges and universities are forging ahead to
provide learning at a distance, and many institutions are making substantial investments in new
technologies for teaching.
Historical Background of Distance Education in India: Starting from the ancient time, Indian
educational system was not able to provide educational facilities to the all

Essay on Economic Analysis of The U.S. 2001-2003
Economic Analysis of The U.S. 2001 2003
Economics have many indicators to describe how it runs. The indicators can show if the economy
has improved or declined. The economic indicators that will be focused on in this analysis of the
United States economy from 2001 2003 will be the consumer price index, the imports and exports,
the unemployment rate, and finally the gross domestic product. Now while most may know the
meanings of the previously stated indicators, for those who don t, they remain useless unless
defined. To begin with, these indicators will have to be defined in full to aid in understanding the
analysis in more detail. It will be after that that the actual analysis of the economy of the United ...

Obviously unemployed rate is defined as the fraction of the labor force that is unemployed . To
define the unemployed is important as well, because it refers to those that have no job, but are
actively looking for work, not to those who are not working and are uninterested in searching or
getting a job . The reason that unemployment is so important in determining the economy s success
is because it is intertwined with the gross domestic product, as in when the gross domestic product
falls, unemployment is increased, and when it rises, there is a decrease in unemployment . To make
what is being explained clearer, when there is unemployment, production is down; therefore there is
less money and goods produced out of the economy. This is how unemployment relates as well.
The last indicator to be defined is probably the most the important of them all, and that is the
gross domestic product. The gross domestic product is defined as the total market value of all
the final goods and services produced within an economy in a given year . There are two types
of gross domestic product, real and nominal. Real GDP is adjusted to how prices have changed,
as nominal GDP is the current price as it is calculated . There is so very much that goes into the
gross domestic product that in this analysis only the percent change from the years will be shown
as important. A percent that is positive is obviously

The Network s Creation And Evolution Of Powerful Girl...
Via textual analysis, content analysis, discourse analysis, interviews, and primary and secondary
sources, this study used a cultural studies and historical lens to explore and comprehend the
representation of tween girls on Disney Channel television series. This research project sought to
answer questions about meanings of the network s creation and evolution of powerful girl
characters. In so doing, it examined culture particularly dominant American ideologies about girls
and industry, mainly, Disney as an institution that serves as an instrument of dominant ideology by
pressing its views upon its audience. This dissertation has identified the reasons and motivations for
presentations of girls with hidden magical powers, and the decade s social, historical, and industrial
influence and impact on Disney programming. This dissertation has also shown how Disney has
influenced society and history too with its persistent and sometimes pervasive portrayals of tween
girls resulting in a tween marketing frenzy and more attention being paid to girl s issues. This study
has come up with an enhanced understanding of Disney Channelwithin concrete social, historical,
and institutional contexts. The process of historicizing Disney Channel in chapter one by finding
connections between national events and the various series studied effectively addressed the
intertwined cultural and commercial dynamics of the network. This analysis has firmly established

Why Do You Want To Participate In The Ironbound Initiative...
I am currently a member and the treasurer for the Ironbound Initiative. I am also involved with
the Patient Partnership program as a First Year representative and am the director for the Mini
Med Program at NJMS. In addition, I am a member of the All E.A.R.S Program at NJMS and I
sing in the Vocal Chords Acapella Group.
2.Why do you want to participate in this global health trip? What are your goals, both personally
and for the two week trip as well as after the trip?
Through my participation in the Ironbound Initiative I have come to recognize the significant
health disparities and lack of access to care in the Portuguese and Brazilian communities in New
Jersey. Therefore, I hope that through this trip I will gain experiences and... Show more content on

What do you think will be your greatest challenge?
On this trip, I anticipate communicating with people of a different culture may be a challenge.
Although I do not speak Brazilian Portuguese, I know that we will have a bilingual interpreter
with us as well as NJMS students who speak both languages and thus, I know that the language
barrier will not be a big challenge. More than the language, I want to be contentious on this trip
regarding acknowledging my privileges and that I need to understand the Brazilian approach to
medicine in the context of their culture as well as the resources available to them. Furthermore, I
understand that I have limited knowledge and skills as a first year medical student and so can only
provide basic medical services at this time. Therefore, I am most apprehensive about effectively
understanding and communicating with the Brazilian community and recognizing that currently I
am only able to provide a limited amount of aid to these communities.
4.How do you plan on financially supporting this endeavor? (Are you willing to fundraise as a
team, as well as apply to the available scholarships?)
I fully intend to apply to any available scholarships in order to fund this trip. I am also looking
forward to working with other students going on this trip in order to organize fundraisers such as
bake sales and raffles. I also intend to start a GoFundMe page as well as seek out local businesses

The Death Of Artemio Cruz
The Death of Artemio Cruz is a novel written in 1962 by Carlos Fuentes chronicling the singular
life and destiny of a man raised in the lower classes of Mexico, who manages to rise into political
and economical power through intrigue and Manichean maneuverings. The following book critique
will contain a summary of the novel and provide some examples and parallels on core course
concepts evident in the story, hopefully demonstrating what learning was obtained using the lens of
global healthmatters. Some of my personal musings and reflections will be included in the paper,
and provide food for thought, reflections on universal problems commonly known if not shared by
us all.
Book Summary Beginning with his participation in the Mexican Revolutionary War as a young
soldier embracing Marxist ideals bent on overthrowing the established, corrupt political structure in
place, The Death of Artemio Cruz details the gradual rise in political and economical influence of
our character in the aftermath of a successful revolution. The main plot underlines a striking
contradiction, as the protagonist eventually espouses principles he has long eschewed, becoming
the exploiter instead of the champion of the downtrodden, betraying the principles he had fought
so long and hard for. The narrative begins while he lies helplessly on his deathbed, in the throes of
drug and disease induced delirium, and through a series of flashbacks features his somewhat addled
reminiscences of a (n) (in)

psychological problems are the reason that made him an even bigger star than he was just off

This was the new start of his bad boy and bizarre attitude that garnered a great deal of attention to
him through the media when he was traded to the San Antonio Spurs. When he first arrived to the
Spurs he started coloring his hair strange colors. He stayed highlighted in the media by pulling
antics like saying he was getting married, inviting the media there, and walking down the
wedding isle wearing a brides` dress and said, I am marrying myself. Dennis also started piecing
and tattooing all over his body as well; he also was in the media for two of his most popular
relationship with Carmen Electra and Madonna. He was known for doing interviews at odd
places like at gay bars. Even from 1997 2004 he was involve with wrestling even wrestling with
fellow NBA Star Karl Malone, and generally teaming up with wrestling phenomenon Hulk Hogan.
His bizarre antics landed him a couple movie deals earning quite a few huge paychecks in the box
office. Take what you want from Dennis Rodman, even with all the bizarre antics, he brought
phenomenal skills set to the NBA no matter what team he played for the, Piston, Spurs, Bulls,

The Catastrophe Of The US Economy
The U.S. job market is currently under siege. The global market shows no mercy and America is
not an exception. Ever since the Great Recession of the late 2000s, millions of people have been
out of a job. According to a chart on the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, a federally
managed website, there are still large amounts of unemployed people in some states: Many states in
the U.S. still have an unemployment rate of over five percent ( Unemployment ). The United States
needs to create more jobs. The economy is not in its best shape due to the multitude of job cuts in
the U.S. workforce. There are many reasons that have contributed to the catastrophe of America s
workforce, but there are also plenty of solutions. The United States economy has too few of jobs
to satisfy the global demand, but there are many strategies involving both business and government
that can solve this problem. Extended unemployment checks are a reason why there are fewer jobs
in the U.S. then there should be. Many people decide to not get employed or give up working
completely because they realize that the U.S. government gives free checks to them for simply
being unemployed. The unemployment program funded by the government, in whole, is generally
not a bad thing. The idea of this program is to help people struggling to find a job until they can
support themselves. These unemployment plans were not intended to provide for a permanently
unemployed citizen, yet people have figured out how

Essay about Upton Sinclair And The Chicago Meat-Packing...
Upton Sinclair and the Chicago Meat packing Industry
In 1900, there were over 1.6 million people living in Chicago, the country s second largest city.
Of those 1.6 million, nearly 30% were immigrants. Most immigrants came to the United States
with little or no money at all, in hope of making a better life for themselves. A city like Chicago
offered these people jobs that required no skill. However, the working and living conditions were
hazardous and the pay was barely enough to survive on. This is the bases for Upton Sinclair s book,
The Jungle. Sinclair agreed to investigate working conditions in Chicago s meatpacking plants, for
the Socialist journal, Appeal to Reason, in 1904. The Jungle, published in 1906, is ... Show more

They needed help from the government and local community. In other words, machine politics.
Politicians played an important role in the political machine. In order to maintain this role, they
received substantial kickbacks from the owners of the factories. They would recruit people to
help the immigrants become citizens of the United States, and then pay the immigrants to vote
for a specific candidate, often several times. Before the Progressive Party materialized, there
were just the Democrats and the Republicans, and the one got the office which bought the most
votes. Readers were not concerned with the treatment of workers, as portrayed by The Jungle,
because they really didn t care for the working class, or more specifically, immigrants. However,
readers were shocked when they discovered exactly how their meat was processed and prepared.
Sinclair used just as much, if not more, gruesome detail in describing the products the American
public was consuming, as he did when describing the workplace, living conditions, politics,
society and Chicago s scenery. In a futile attempt to build up the readers sympathy toward the
wage slaves, Sinclair also details the process in which foods not related to the meat packing
industry are prepared. For example, he writes, their pale blue milk...was watered, and doctored with
formaldehyde. The controversy over food

U.s. Environmental Policy Critique
U.S. Environmental Policy Critique The inception of U.S. Environmental policy most notably
began under the Presidency of Richard Nixon; Nixon oversaw the passage of the Clean Air Act,
Clean Water Act and the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The Clean
Water Act of 1972, in particular, enacted stringent laws to prevent pollutants from entering
navigable waters, outlawing open sewers from dumping crud into a local stream and the law
also protects land that filters and purifies water as it flows by. The Landmark law passed in
1972, however, has not impeded the pending water crisis facing the U.S. today. The United
States must take immediate measures in order to combat the problem; given that the U.S. Office
of the Director of National Intelligence now ranks water scarcity as a top threat to national
security; right next to Terrorism (Sullivan). The United States should reform the Clean Water Act
of 1972 to look for any deficiencies in the law. The situation stretches as far as California in
which historic drought conditions have led to water rationing and lower crop yields. Polluters to
this day are failing to live up to the terms of their permits. A 1982 General Accounting Office
(GAO) report revealed that after examining more than five hundred facilities 82 percent of these
dischargers had violated their permits at least once during a two year period (Salzman).
Additionally, 11 percent of these facilities released toxic pollutants

Introduction
The health industry is in the process of adopting evidence based interventions. This has lead to the
standardization on the mode of communication in the classification of diagnosis, applied
interventions and the expected outcomes. In this standardization process, the NANDA, NIC, and
NOC elements are the most commonly used and effective systems. The purpose of this paper is to

This will include the determination of the kind of diet a patient takes and the degree of
exercising together with the knowledge of how various activities affect the heart. The next
consideration would be the determination of the body s fluid levels. This would be followed by
the examination of the body and patient s regulatory systems which affects the body s fluid level.
The next step will then be the evaluation of the disease status of the patient. Other diseases may
have a negative effect to the ability of the heart to pump blood to the various parts of the body and
this step will enable the nurse to discover which disease is causing a negative effect to the heart. The
evaluation of the family status will reveal any conflicts that may be causing the heart failure while
at the same time provide an understanding of the degree of effectiveness of therapeutic regimen
management. Through this data, the nurse will be in a position to determine the patient s current
status and aid in determining the level of outcomes that is required to manage the disease effectively.
Nursing Outcome Classification
At this stage, the nurse should establish the levels to be reached for each of the causes determined
in the diagnosis process. First, the nurse should set the required compliance behavior to the
strategies to be implemented. This will be followed by the determination of the level of

This is the first death camp where gas was used for murder on a large scale. Everything was set

could be sent to Austria or somewhere else and that they would have good lives wherever they

and once they were inside the car and it was started, poisonous gas was released to exterminate

The Federalist Papers By Alexander Hamilton, James...
But the Federalists would not easily forfeit. They argued that the Constitution didn t require a Bill
of Rights. The Federalist Papers written by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay,
summed up the thoughts of many Federalists. In Federalist Paper No. 84 Publius, a pseudonym
under which they wrote, addressed Antifederalist worries, Bills of rights... are not only unnecessary
in the proposed Constitution, but would even be dangerous. Publius argued that because the
Constitution was founded upon the power of the people the people surrendered nothing, and
retained all rights not explicitly given to the federal government. Alexander Hamiltonsummed up
this perfectly when he asked, Why, for instance, should it be said that the liberty of the press
shall not be restrained, when no power is given [to Congress] by which restrictions may be
imposed? Many federalists shared this view, arguing that a bill of rights would actually infringe
upon individual liberties, because such bill could not possibly cover every right the people were
entitled to. Madison shared this view, adding that a bill of rights is a parchment barrier and that the
best way to protect individual and state liberties was to separate the powers among three branches
of government. He opposed a bill of rights in the constitutional convention of 1787, in many of his
contributions to the Federalist Papers, and at the Richmond convention. It wasn t until late 1788
that Madison actually endorsed a

with the wall, and yet the speaker and his neighbor continue to fix it every year. The speaker and
the neighbor have two very different opinions about the wall. The speaker questions why there
must be a wall between his and his neighbor s land. There isn t any plausible reason for it. None of

But that is the way it has always been, and the neighbor is like an old stone savage armed. He is
much more conservative, not daring to go behind the reason given by his father, good fences
make good neighbors. The speaker is much more critical. He does not see any use for the wall,
besides causing them to constantly repair the wall year after year. He scrutinizes the necessity of
the wall, while the neighbor is satisfied with the reason that that s the way it has always been.
This annual task of mending the wall, is not exactly necessary to the welfare and safety of the
characters in this poem or their families, if they have any. It does not provide them with any
food, or any income. It goes beyond the elementary necessities of life. Mending the wall isn t
really work, since it is not necessary for their survival, it is more of a game. Albeit it not a game
in the classical sense of being for fun. This kind of game is a modern game, not done for
pleasure, but to satisfy the demand for a wall. The speaker and the neighbor both have their own
land, with a set boundary of where it ends. The wall is a product of modern society, which says
that land is the property of a certain individual, and that individual is the owner and overseer of
that property. In order for society to know what property belongs to the speaker, and what belongs
to the neighbor, there must be a barrier to show the definitions of their property. Why do they

Measures to reduce central venous pressure (CVP) and cerebral metabolic rate for oxygen
(CMRO2) can effectively allow to increase SVC clamping time [4,6,7]. To maintain mean arterial
pressure, fluid administration and vasopressor use plays important role. However fluid infusion
through cannula placed in upper limbs would cause further rise in cerebral venous pressure.
Femoral venous or right atrial cannula would be effective in fluid resuscitation. Neuroprotective
methods like use of thiopentone and mild hypothermia can be used. BIS monitoring is essential
during such surgery. As brain metabolism is decreased, bispectral index also decreases. SVC
decompression can be done by creating temporary veno atrial shunt or cavo pulmonary

Saturn Devouring His Son
Saturn Devouring His Son
Saturn Devouring His Son is a name given to a mural painting painted by Francisco Jose de
Goya y Lucientes during year 1820 to 1823 at his house Quinta del Sordo (Villa of The Deaf

means the color pigments are mixed with water and egg york and applied on the moistened
plaster. This painting was painted in oils on one of the wall of his dining room. Goya showed

His sixth child Jupiter (Zeus) survived because his wife, Ops (Rhea) tricked on him. Jupiter later
overthrew Saturn and saved all his five brothers and sisters which still survived inside their father s

Goya might inspired by Peter Paul Rubens who also previously painted a Saturn Devouring His Son
on 1636. But Goya s Saturn Devouring His Son is different with Rubens s. Rubens s Saturn was
painted less cannibalistic whereas Goya s Saturn is more cannibal as he emphasized on Saturn s
expression.
However, Wright (1993, p.51) had written that Rubens s is more horrific as viewer s sympathy
is straight drop on the innocent baby yet to be eaten. There is also another difference spotted.
Rubens s painted an innocent child whereas Goya painted a cadaver that looked like a younger
adult. In Goya s painting, the cadaver was in long legged, round buttocks and wide hips. The
gender of the young adult is remained unknown as there is headless and not facing to us. But some
experts suggested that the cadaver was a female young adult due to Goya s later love life.
Emotionalism aspect also can be seen in this painting. The public is curious why Goya painted
Saturn. Some historians suggested that this is related to Goya s son, Javier. Goya and his wife,
Josefa, had plenty of children but only Javier

Why Do The Historic Theories Of The Origins Of Religion...
Introduction Why study comparative religions? You could study religion for the same reason you
study music or biology or drama. It is based on your interests. The second cultures of the world
cannot be understood without a knowledge of the influence of religion on everyday life. Lastly,
politics is a huge contribution for knowledge about world religions. How do the historic theories of
the origins of religionbegin? Well the first theory is Animistic Theory which Edward Burnett
Tylor in his primitive culture Tylor hypothesized that primitive peoples developed a sense of the
soul or the other from experiences with death and dreams. The nature worship theory was
developed by Max Muller, an Oxford Professor. The magic theory in which Sir James Frazer
wrote a huge book on religion called The Golden Bough . The first phase people attempted to
control the world of nature through magic. Then the second phase people turned to religion with
the premise that nature could be implored or begged to cooperate by the use of scarifies and
offerings. The last phase was when religion failed people and turned to science showing a
progress to a more rational understanding of nature. The last theory is religion as a projection of
human needs which a German philosopher Ludwig Feuerbach claimed that religions were
essentially projections of the wishes and needs of humanity. There are many different ways to
approach the study of religion. Even though this class is about religions it is our

attributed to brand recognition and professed quality picture.
Opportunities:
Cava, like most fresh wines, can be drunk at festivities like Christmas, New
Year s Eve, at birthday s parties, anniversaries and during special moments. This is indicated by
the fact that most sales are made in the last quarter of the year. Over 5$ million sales and about
900000 sales of bottles can be sold on a good year. On the other hand it has a good capital base of

Threats:
Sometimes the company has to compete with intermediary market groups, since it does not face up
to the magnificence wine brands or the popular, low priced brands. There is also competition from
Europe more especially among the French and Italian businesses. Competition also comes from
producers of cava and wines produced in other areas like Italy for instance Cal del Bosco. Some
fresh wine consumers look for high quality product with custom and history, but not essentially
looking for a high brand image. There is also the fear of collapsing due to confusion whether to

The database design process consists of a number of steps listed below. We will focus mainly on

such as Postal Code, or City separately from the other Location information (Street Address etc)
then there is no need to subdivide it into its component attributes, and the whole Location can be
designated as a simple attribute.
в–Є What are examples of other composite attributes?
Single Valued vs. Multi valued Attributes
в–Є Most attributes have a single value for each entity, such as a car only has one model, a student
has only one ID number, an employee has only one data of birth. These attributes are called single
valued attributes. в–Є Sometimes an attribute can have multiple values for a single entity, for
example, a doctor may have more than one specialty (or may have only one specialty), a customer
may have more than one mobile phone number, or they may not have one at all. These attributes are
called multi valued attributes. в–Є Multi valued attributes may have a lower and upper bounds to
constrain the number of values allowed. For example, a doctor must have at least one specialty, but
no more than 3 specialties.
Stored vs. Derived Attributes
в–Є If an attribute can be calculated using the value of another attribute, they are called derived
attributes. в–Є The attribute that is used to derive the attribute is called a stored attribute. в–Є
Derived attributes are not stored in the file, but can be derived when needed from the stored

The model demonstrates the interaction between individual, relationship, community and
societal factors (CDC, 2015). The first level identifies individual factors which can increase the
likelihood to become a victim or a perpetrator. Individual factors can be; the age, low level of

and personality disorders (CDC, 2015 and WHO ,2012, p.4).The second level of the model
describes the relationship factors; this can be conflicts in the partnership such as displeasure or
the women has a higher education as her partner which leads to /or increase low self esteem by

Explain What Autonomy Is In Respect To Human Dignity
1.Explain what autonomy is in respect to human dignity.
Autonomy in respect to human dignity is the right to self determination and it was used to be in
medicine to document all the decisions for the patients but that is not the case anymore. The
patients now have the right to make choices based on their own beliefs, their own values, and their
own needs. As a respiratory therapist, we have to be careful that we should not try to substitute our

Socrates Analysis
A philosopher in the Socratic sense is seen as possessing knowledge beyond the scope of his
peers. Socrates ambiguously notes this the knowledge of that which is. A knowledge so
forthcoming, others are simply oblivious to the ultimate truth of the world around them, going
about their lives without ever truly knowing what is. Does such a knowledge prepare the
philosopher for efficient, auspicious governance, though, as Socrates states? Surely, our leaders
should be well informed, but leadership is a composite skill which requires skills beyond mere
knowledge that which is. The leadership necessary to most skillfully conduct over the affairs of a
regime involve dexterity, anticipation, and much calculation. However, the knowledge of what is

A democratic regime presents itself as a pure regime without despotic rulers. As such, equality is
echoed throughout the city, with equality being bestowed upon both equals and unequals alike
(558 c). The city is full of free speech and freedom, with the choice to do as one wishes, granting
the private citizens to organize their lives as it suits them (557 b). With such a variety of
dispositions found in the citizens, Socrates introduces the metaphor of a many colored cloak,
decorated in all hues, representing the most pleasant and fair looking object (557 c). The eclectic
variety of the democratic city ensures a harmony unakin to any other regime.
However, the most important similarity between the philosophic and the democratic man is their
complete absence of the compulsion to rule. The philosopher and democrat only dredge in politics
because they know it to be just and their duty (557 e). This creates a certain objectivity in
government, with the whim of the leader unimportant. Without the selfish need for pride or power,
a leader governs according to which is most advantageous for the city, and not to which is simply
advantageous for himself. With this certain lack of pettiness, a noble regime

Theme Of Blank Sonnet
A distinguished sense of hollowness, and darkness is discernable in George Elliot Clarke s poem
Blank Sonnet . This poem expresses, the author s difficult and awkward communication with a
lover through a broken relationship. word choice and imagery is imperative to the overall effect
and tone of the poem. The usage of an atypical sonnetstylization, broken sentences, forms of
metaphors, symbolism, sensory language, and alliteration form strong imagery, and a sense of
disconnect. The overall effect leaves the reader with a resonating feeling of emptiness.
The main theme within Clarke s Sonnet is his distance and inability to communicate with a lover.
This poem is written for his lover as an attempt to connect with her, although within the poem, he is
continuing to communicate poorly. The way in which he copes with this broken relationship drives
the tone of the poem.
A common theme throughout the poem is the coping mechanism used for his troubled
relationship. He does not view his alcoholism as a fault, but as a comfort and an escape. He
yearns to sleep beneath a patchwork quilt of rum . (Clarke 6) Furthermore, he wishes to drink
until he is unaware that his relationship is troubled. He wishes for the slow collapse of language
/ [w]ashed out by alcohol. (Clarke 7 8) He desires to detach, and isolate himself from the situation
mentally, rather than remove himself physically. This suggests that he has no wish to recover from
his alcoholism, and no desire to leave his

It seems clear that the 19 terrorists of September 11 were all foreign citizens and entered the United

Even as he announced a crackdown on illegal immigration and tightened visa procedures, President

beeline to identify lucrative business opportunities in India. Some of the profitable exits
announced on the global private equity stage, the arrival of the Indian market as a hot
destination with immense potential for private equity funds, and its readiness to embrace the
global private equity with open arms. Today, some of the world s leading private equity firms
like Blackstone Group, Carlyle Group and General Atlantic Partners, and Actis Partners are
firmly established in India. Some of the Indian firms like ICICI, IDFC and Kotak are also
increasing their investments. And many new foreign PE funds like Lightspeed Venture Partners,
Providence Equity Partners and Apex Venture Partners are planning to venture into India.
Coming to the global picture global trends show that the private equity (PE) industry was once
dominated by North America but recent years have seen global emergence of the industry. US
still contributes a two thirds of the total funds raised globally and it does not seem to be changing
in the near future. However, an interesting fact is that the proportion of the investment going back
to US is gradually decreasing every year. Till the last few years, almost 60% funds were invested
back in US with only 25% going to Europe and remaining landing in Asia Pacific. But the

Naturalism To Build A Fire
Naturalism To Build a Fire To Build a Fire is a famous short story written by Jack London who
an American writer which tells the story of the ultimate failure of man and cruel nature. The gold
rush is To build a fire as the representative of modern civilization, while carefully aware of the
snow trap, but still wet feet, in the wilderness, is a fatal mistake; although he finally succeeded in
the fire, but did not pay attention to the top of the snow on the trees; although there is strong the
will to live, but ultimately lost in the hands of nature, nature become the victim. But only one

Music Concert Review Essay
October 28th was the day of the Latin Music Recital in the Caine Performance Hall. This was
only one of many performances that week. Latin is a genre of music that unless I have come
across it at other such events I have not heard it otherwise. Thus it is a genre that I had to do
some research on in order to better appreciate what I was hearing. This concert was basically split
into two parts each part had a main soloist on guitar that was accompanied by other musicians. The
concert hall, since this was going to be mainly solo musicto begin with, had all of the sound
absorbing curtains up so that all would be able to hear the solo guitarist. A main center spot
light on stage helped me to know where to focus because I was a little unsure of what to expect
from this performance. Based on my observations, most of those around me had no idea what this
concert would be like and so it was very quiet as they all seemed to be looking around in... Show

After the host welcomed the audience and informed us all about what Latin Week on campus
was about and what the events were he invited on stage the first performer after which he, the
host, promptly left the stage. The room was deathly quiet as we waited for the solo guitarist to
tune her instrument. The guitar soloist was on stage and performed roughly six or eight pieces,
none of which were announced by title. At the conclusion of those six or eight pieces the guitarist
then introduced a clarinetist and a flutist who would take turns playing solos with her. The two
other players switched on every other piece and played a duet with the guitarist. These pieces like
those before were unannounced so I quit looking at the program altogether because I didn t know
any of the pieces for starters and if they weren t going to be mentioned I decided to just enjoy
rather than worry about

Discuss the nature nurture debate in relation to individual development (M1)
Evaluate the nature nurture debate in relation to development of the individual (D1)
Over the course of the last century one of the greatest debates in psychology concerns, the basis of
behaviour, specifically whether behaviour is innate i.e. genetically controlled, or whether it is learnt
through the socio cultural environment. This is often referred to as the Nature vs. Nurture debate.
There are two main arguments on this issue. The Nativist claims that all behaviour is innate
believing that genes control the majority of animal behaviour. On the other hand, the empiricist
position suggests that all behaviour is learned through an individuals cultural ... Show more content

It has been argued that the propensity towards intellectual plasticity is determined genetically, but
that the environment is what governs the moulding of that plasticity. As such, people who have a
genetic propensity to intelligence and a highly stimulating infancy will become most intelligent,
while those who have a lower genetic propensity to intelligence may still demonstrate high IQ
through a highly structured intervention program. This would explain both Ramey s study, as well
as the Devlin argument, and hence support the concept that there might be both a genetic and an
environmental influence on intelligence.
Naturally there are opposing views, from the Nativists that individual s genetics are determinant in
regards to behaviour, and that indeed certain behaviour and instincts are in fact largely under
genetic control. A prime example of this is the Chomsky s cognitive theory of language. Chomsky
s approach to the study of language emphasizes an innate set of linguistic principles shared by all
humans known as universal grammar. N.Chomsky was the first behaviourist to provide a
functional, operant analysis of language. He proposed that we are born with a brain mechanism he
called the language acquisition device (LAD). This

the decision. We can describe the risk by evaluation of Financial, Market , Technical and

The Short term Energy outlook for the end of 2016 is $40/b, For 2017 $50 The Forecast West
Texas Intermediate (WTI) at the end of 2016 around $38/b Operating Cost In the US Average
Operating cost per barrel $13.50. The most expensive is the shale operations. The cost varies
from the Texas Permian Basin to the Marcellus shale. For conventional well cost effective prices
to maintain many existing wells is $10/b across the US. To increase the oil output the oil operators
are facing the decision: drilling new wells or subscribe to the Enhancing Oil Recovery (EOR). We
can argue that the correct EOR is more cost effective to the drilling new wells. In many places the
drilling is financially prohibited at the current oil price. Technical: There are many methods
intended to increase the wells productivity: Chemical, thermal, magnetic pulse generators ,CO2 and
many others . All of the above methods in certain circumstances could make improvements in few
additional barrels. It is not my intention to conduct and provide comparison studies. Our methods
were built around the Hydro Slotted Perforation. The technology is based on the uploading rock
stress around the wellbore zone and in opening a hydrodynamic communication that instigates the
drastic increase in the oil output. Depending on the formation, we can increase oil output in average
to 25 barrels/day. We could use additional methods centered

Essay on Hines’ Article Triggers Response
A journal article s goal is to inform the reader of a subject, but it also attempts to conjure a
response or thought of any kind. Housing, Baseball, and Creeping Socialism The Battle of
Chavez Ravine, Los Angeles, 1949 1959 by Thomas S. Hines causes a reaction from the start by
failing to include an abstract to aid the reader. Had I not had a background in Chavez Ravine, this
would be a crucial negligence. Once the essay begins, Hines delves straight into Chavez Ravine, the
architects behind the housing project there, and the socialist controversy that doomed the project,
provoking a number of responses from me ranging from frustration to sympathy. From the very first
sentence, Hines plunges into the article as if the reader already... Show more content on

Hines continues his three pages on the architect alone by describing his project Channel Heights
s relation to Chavez Ravine: Its shopping center, schools, and community buildings [...]
comprised all in all [...] a fine response to the hilly site of coastal ravines (Hines 126 127). An
additional three pages are devoted to Alexander and to why he was chosen for the project of
Chavez Ravine, which was to be renamed Elysian Park Heights. Hines discusses his work on
Baldwin Hills Village similar to Channel Heights. Again, no purpose for including this background
is clear. Hines does not even relate back to Chavez Ravine until he writes, Alexander was
appointed in 1945 to the Los Angeles City Planning Commission which led him to the project of
restoring Chavez Ravine (Hines 128 129). Finally, after six pages, Hines connects to the architects
and to Chavez Ravine when he states that Alexander chooses Neutra as his partner. At this point,
Hines is now well into the article and still has not established a clear, controlling purpose. This is
extremely irritating because it seems he is just reciting collected information. Though Hines draws
out the section about the architects plans, the descriptions of Chavez Ravine s architectural
redesign demonstrate the architects hope to keep the community in mind. Hines emphasizes this
point because of his implied sympathy for the community. He includes a quote from

China s Largest Population On Earth
Introduction China is home to the largest population on Earth and they have experienced dramatic
growth during their recent history. China s GDP in 1952 was a mere 67.9 billion USD which has
grown to 10.87 trillion USD today. This GDP growth is mirrored and positively correlated with
China s tremendous population growth. Chinahas experienced a population growth from under 552
million in 1950 to nearly 1.4 billion today. This tremendous growth has brought about an
increased dependence on the advanced production of food in China. In order to feed this growing
population farmers have been forced to effectively grow their crops and increase their cultivation

In October of 2005 the preserved remains of ancient noodles were discovered at the Lajia
archaeological site which sits on the second terrace of the Yellow River near Qinghai. These
noodles where a revolutionary find allowing anthropologists to further research ancient Chinese
food. The noodles were made from foxtail and broom corn millet and were preserved for
thousands of years in the rock. From these findings it is clear that grain based noodles have been
a staple part of the Chinese diet for thousands of years. During the time frame from around 2070
BC to 221 BC five chief grains made up the staple diet of the Chinese. This time period included
the Xia, Shang, Zhou dynasties and the Warring States Period is commonly referred to as the
period of five grains. Anthropologists and historians have found and studied many different
records that argue over which grains were in fact a part of the five grains. According the Classic
of Rites which was comprised by Confucius and his followers during the 6th century the five
staple grains included soybeans, rice, proso millet, foxtail millet, and wheat. Scholars argue over
the which grains were a part of the traditional five. Another version of the Classic of Rights
replaces rice with hemp. Before the rise of Confucius there was no prior record of the way that the
Chinese cooked their food. Confucius through his teaching and wisdom laid the groundwork and
developed the norms

Native American Critical Thinking Essay
The article that I had read was about the many things originally thought of Native Americans and
the New World. It then speaks of what was actually true about the whole ordeal. The first thing
that surprised me was the Cahokia tribe of the Mississippi. I had always heard about the fairly
advanced Native American tribes in the Mississippi River region, but never has it been explained
in great detail to show their true greatness. What surprised me the most is that the population of
the Cahokia was so huge in the region as well as the great mounds that were built. The Great Sun,
who was the leader of the Cahokia, also was treated as if he must ve been an Egyptian Pharaoh.
The Europeans thought that the Native Americans were a savage people who didn t deserve to be
the true inhabitants of the New World. They seemed to have twisted every good action that the
tribes performed and make them sound undeserving of a great status, even if it meant bathing or
giving presents to the Europeans. The truth is, the Europeans weren t tolerant to the different
cultures and practices of the Americas.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, they took baths every single day which for some reason the Europeans thought was
repulsive. Many tribes had brilliant ways of cultivating the land they lived on. They had a way
of preserving the wildlife they hunted for food by only killing what they needed and not killing
extra animals. A council that the Iroquois League ran was much like our own Congress with
freedom of speech and woman who could hold office. The Europeans still didn t see any of the
good in all of this just because it was different and so they continued with poor excuses to displace
the Natives from their

Teaster and Blieszner (1999) say the term distance learning has been applied to many instructional methods: however, its primary distinction is that the teacher and the learner are separate in space and possibly time (p. 741). However, distance learning is not a new phenomenon. The history of distance education could be traced back to the early 1700s in the form of correspondence education, but technology based distance education might be best linked to the introduction of audiovisual devices into the schools in the early 1900s. With the development of the postal service in the 19th century, commercial correspondence colleges provided distance education to students across the country. This trend continued well into the 20th century with the advent of radio, television, and other media that allowed learning from distance. In the last decade, distance education has changed significantly with the use of computer mediated learning, two way interactive video, and a variety of other technologies. Colleges and universities are forging ahead to provide learning at a distance, and many institutions are making substantial investments in new technologies for teaching. • 5. Essay on Economic Analysis of The U.S. 2001-2003 Economic Analysis of The U.S. 2001 2003 Economics have many indicators to describe how it runs. The indicators can show if the economy has improved or declined. The economic indicators that will be focused on in this analysis of the United States economy from 2001 2003 will be the consumer price index, the imports and exports, the unemployment rate, and finally the gross domestic product. Now while most may know the meanings of the previously stated indicators, for those who don t, they remain useless unless defined. To begin with, these indicators will have to be defined in full to aid in understanding the analysis in more detail. It will be after that that the actual analysis of the economy of the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Obviously unemployed rate is defined as the fraction of the labor force that is unemployed . To define the unemployed is important as well, because it refers to those that have no job, but are actively looking for work, not to those who are not working and are uninterested in searching or getting a job . The reason that unemployment is so important in determining the economy s success is because it is intertwined with the gross domestic product, as in when the gross domestic product falls, unemployment is increased, and when it rises, there is a decrease in unemployment . To make what is being explained clearer, when there is unemployment, production is down; therefore there is less money and goods produced out of the economy. This is how unemployment relates as well. The last indicator to be defined is probably the most the important of them all, and that is the gross domestic product. The gross domestic product is defined as the total market value of all the final goods and services produced within an economy in a given year . There are two types of gross domestic product, real and nominal. Real GDP is adjusted to how prices have changed, as nominal GDP is the current price as it is calculated . There is so very much that goes into the gross domestic product that in this analysis only the percent change from the years will be shown as important. A percent that is positive is obviously ... • 6. The Network s Creation And Evolution Of Powerful Girl... Via textual analysis, content analysis, discourse analysis, interviews, and primary and secondary sources, this study used a cultural studies and historical lens to explore and comprehend the representation of tween girls on Disney Channel television series. This research project sought to answer questions about meanings of the network s creation and evolution of powerful girl characters. In so doing, it examined culture particularly dominant American ideologies about girls and industry, mainly, Disney as an institution that serves as an instrument of dominant ideology by pressing its views upon its audience. This dissertation has identified the reasons and motivations for presentations of girls with hidden magical powers, and the decade s social, historical, and industrial influence and impact on Disney programming. This dissertation has also shown how Disney has influenced society and history too with its persistent and sometimes pervasive portrayals of tween girls resulting in a tween marketing frenzy and more attention being paid to girl s issues. This study has come up with an enhanced understanding of Disney Channelwithin concrete social, historical, and institutional contexts. The process of historicizing Disney Channel in chapter one by finding connections between national events and the various series studied effectively addressed the intertwined cultural and commercial dynamics of the network. Although I do not speak Brazilian Portuguese, I know that we will have a bilingual interpreter with us as well as NJMS students who speak both languages and thus, I know that the language barrier will not be a big challenge. More than the language, I want to be contentious on this trip regarding acknowledging my privileges and that I need to understand the Brazilian approach to medicine in the context of their culture as well as the resources available to them. Furthermore, I understand that I have limited knowledge and skills as a first year medical student and so can only provide basic medical services at this time. Therefore, I am most apprehensive about effectively understanding and communicating with the Brazilian community and recognizing that currently I am only able to provide a limited amount of aid to these communities. 4.How do you plan on financially supporting this endeavor? The Death Of Artemio Cruz The Death of Artemio Cruz is a novel written in 1962 by Carlos Fuentes chronicling the singular life and destiny of a man raised in the lower classes of Mexico, who manages to rise into political and economical power through intrigue and Manichean maneuverings. The following book critique will contain a summary of the novel and provide some examples and parallels on core course concepts evident in the story, hopefully demonstrating what learning was obtained using the lens of global healthmatters. Some of my personal musings and reflections will be included in the paper, and provide food for thought, reflections on universal problems commonly known if not shared by us all. Book Summary Beginning with his participation in the Mexican Revolutionary War as a young soldier embracing Marxist ideals bent on overthrowing the established, corrupt political structure in place, The Death of Artemio Cruz details the gradual rise in political and economical influence of our character in the aftermath of a successful revolution. The main plot underlines a striking contradiction, as the protagonist eventually espouses principles he has long eschewed, becoming the exploiter instead of the champion of the downtrodden, betraying the principles he had fought so long and hard for. The narrative begins while he lies helplessly on his deathbed, in the throes of drug and disease induced delirium, and through a series of flashbacks features his somewhat addled reminiscences of a (n) (in) ... • 10. The Catastrophe Of The US Economy The U.S. job market is currently under siege. The global market shows no mercy and America is not an exception. Ever since the Great Recession of the late 2000s, millions of people have been out of a job. According to a chart on the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, a federally managed website, there are still large amounts of unemployed people in some states: Many states in the U.S. still have an unemployment rate of over five percent ( Unemployment ). The United States needs to create more jobs. The economy is not in its best shape due to the multitude of job cuts in the U.S. workforce. There are many reasons that have contributed to the catastrophe of America s workforce, but there are also plenty of solutions. The United States economy has too few of jobs to satisfy the global demand, but there are many strategies involving both business and government that can solve this problem. Extended unemployment checks are a reason why there are fewer jobs in the U.S. then there should be. Many people decide to not get employed or give up working completely because they realize that the U.S. government gives free checks to them for simply being unemployed. The unemployment program funded by the government, in whole, is generally not a bad thing. The idea of this program is to help people struggling to find a job until they can support themselves. • 11. Essay about Upton Sinclair And The Chicago Meat-Packing... Upton Sinclair and the Chicago Meat packing Industry In 1900, there were over 1.6 million people living in Chicago, the country s second largest city. Of those 1.6 million, nearly 30% were immigrants. Most immigrants came to the United States with little or no money at all, in hope of making a better life for themselves. A city like Chicago offered these people jobs that required no skill. However, the working and living conditions were hazardous and the pay was barely enough to survive on. This is the bases for Upton Sinclair s book, The Jungle. Sinclair agreed to investigate working conditions in Chicago s meatpacking plants, for the Socialist journal, Appeal to Reason, in 1904. Politicians played an important role in the political machine. In order to maintain this role, they received substantial kickbacks from the owners of the factories. They would recruit people to help the immigrants become citizens of the United States, and then pay the immigrants to vote for a specific candidate, often several times. Before the Progressive Party materialized, there were just the Democrats and the Republicans, and the one got the office which bought the most votes. Readers were not concerned with the treatment of workers, as portrayed by The Jungle, because they really didn t care for the working class, or more specifically, immigrants. However, readers were shocked when they discovered exactly how their meat was processed and prepared. Sinclair used just as much, if not more, gruesome detail in describing the products the American public was consuming, as he did when describing the workplace, living conditions, politics, society and Chicago s scenery. In a futile attempt to build up the readers sympathy toward the wage slaves, Sinclair also details the process in which foods not related to the meat packing industry are prepared. For example, he writes, their pale blue milk...was watered, and doctored with formaldehyde. The controversy over food ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. U.s. Environmental Policy Critique U.S. Environmental Policy Critique The inception of U.S. Environmental policy most notably began under the Presidency of Richard Nixon; Nixon oversaw the passage of the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act and the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The Clean Water Act of 1972, in particular, enacted stringent laws to prevent pollutants from entering navigable waters, outlawing open sewers from dumping crud into a local stream and the law also protects land that filters and purifies water as it flows by. The Landmark law passed in 1972, however, has not impeded the pending water crisis facing the U.S. today. The United States must take immediate measures in order to combat the problem; given that the U.S. Office of the Director of National Intelligence now ranks water scarcity as a top threat to national security; right next to Terrorism (Sullivan). The United States should reform the Clean Water Act of 1972 to look for any deficiencies in the law. The situation stretches as far as California in which historic drought conditions have led to water rationing and lower crop yields. Polluters to this day are failing to live up to the terms of their permits. A 1982 General Accounting Office (GAO) report revealed that after examining more than five hundred facilities 82 percent of these dischargers had violated their permits at least once during a two year period (Salzman). The next step will then be the evaluation of the disease status of the patient. Other diseases may have a negative effect to the ability of the heart to pump blood to the various parts of the body and this step will enable the nurse to discover which disease is causing a negative effect to the heart. The evaluation of the family status will reveal any conflicts that may be causing the heart failure while at the same time provide an understanding of the degree of effectiveness of therapeutic regimen management. • 16. The Federalist Papers By Alexander Hamilton, James... But the Federalists would not easily forfeit. They argued that the Constitution didn t require a Bill of Rights. The Federalist Papers written by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay, summed up the thoughts of many Federalists. In Federalist Paper No. 84 Publius, a pseudonym under which they wrote, addressed Antifederalist worries, Bills of rights... are not only unnecessary in the proposed Constitution, but would even be dangerous. Publius argued that because the Constitution was founded upon the power of the people the people surrendered nothing, and retained all rights not explicitly given to the federal government. Alexander Hamiltonsummed up this perfectly when he asked, Why, for instance, should it be said that the liberty of the press shall not be restrained, when no power is given [to Congress] by which restrictions may be imposed? Many federalists shared this view, arguing that a bill of rights would actually infringe upon individual liberties, because such bill could not possibly cover every right the people were entitled to. Madison shared this view, adding that a bill of rights is a parchment barrier and that the best way to protect individual and state liberties was to separate the powers among three branches of government. He opposed a bill of rights in the constitutional convention of 1787, in many of his contributions to the Federalist Papers, and at the Richmond convention. When he refers to something there that doesn t love a wall, he is referring to a tree, which by nature is consistently causing damage to the wall. As the roots of the tree grow, it causes the frozen ground beneath the wallto swell, and spills the upper boulders in the sun. Clearly this tree has a problem with the wall, and yet the speaker and his neighbor continue to fix it every year. The speaker and the neighbor have two very different opinions about the wall. He scrutinizes the necessity of the wall, while the neighbor is satisfied with the reason that that s the way it has always been. This annual task of mending the wall, is not exactly necessary to the welfare and safety of the characters in this poem or their families, if they have any. It does not provide them with any food, or any income. It goes beyond the elementary necessities of life. Mending the wall isn t really work, since it is not necessary for their survival, it is more of a game. Albeit it not a game in the classical sense of being for fun. This kind of game is a modern game, not done for pleasure, but to satisfy the demand for a wall. The speaker and the neighbor both have their own land, with a set boundary of where it ends. The wall is a product of modern society, which says that land is the property of a certain individual, and that individual is the owner and overseer of that property. In order for society to know what property belongs to the speaker, and what belongs to the neighbor, there must be a barrier to show the definitions of their property. Then the second phase people turned to religion with the premise that nature could be implored or begged to cooperate by the use of scarifies and offerings. The last phase was when religion failed people and turned to science showing a progress to a more rational understanding of nature. • 37. Theme Of Blank Sonnet A distinguished sense of hollowness, and darkness is discernable in George Elliot Clarke s poem Blank Sonnet . This poem expresses, the author s difficult and awkward communication with a lover through a broken relationship. word choice and imagery is imperative to the overall effect and tone of the poem. The usage of an atypical sonnetstylization, broken sentences, forms of metaphors, symbolism, sensory language, and alliteration form strong imagery, and a sense of disconnect. The overall effect leaves the reader with a resonating feeling of emptiness. The main theme within Clarke s Sonnet is his distance and inability to communicate with a lover. This poem is written for his lover as an attempt to connect with her, although within the poem, he is continuing to communicate poorly. The way in which he copes with this broken relationship drives the tone of the poem. A common theme throughout the poem is the coping mechanism used for his troubled relationship. He does not view his alcoholism as a fault, but as a comfort and an escape. He yearns to sleep beneath a patchwork quilt of rum . (Clarke 6) Furthermore, he wishes to drink until he is unaware that his relationship is troubled. He wishes for the slow collapse of language / [w]ashed out by alcohol. (Clarke 7 8) He desires to detach, and isolate himself from the situation mentally, rather than remove himself physically. Essay on The Impact of Terrorism on Immigration The Impact of Terrorism on Immigration Always on the lookout for opportunities to press their case, anti immigration advocates lost no time after the attacks of September 11. As one of them pointed out in testimony before the Senate, It seems clear that the 19 terrorists of September 11 were all foreign citizens and entered the United States legally, as tourists, business travelers, or students. This was also true of the perpetrators of previous terrorist acts . . . However, measures undertaken to enhance security by tightening admission procedures as well as to search for the enemy within led to the targeting of Muslims and Middle Easterners, broadly speaking. Moreover, the U.S. refugee resettlement program ground to a halt, leaving thousands of refugees overseas in dangerous limbo, straining the limited resources of agencies that resettle them, and exacerbating the decline in annual U.S. refugee admissions for yet another year. 4 Quite literally, none of the hijackers nor any of the other suspects identified so far qualifies as a full fledged immigrant, in the sense of someone who was admitted to the United States for permanent ... • 41. Music Concert Review Essay October 28th was the day of the Latin Music Recital in the Caine Performance Hall. This was only one of many performances that week. Latin is a genre of music that unless I have come across it at other such events I have not heard it otherwise. Thus it is a genre that I had to do some research on in order to better appreciate what I was hearing. This concert was basically split into two parts each part had a main soloist on guitar that was accompanied by other musicians. The concert hall, since this was going to be mainly solo musicto begin with, had all of the sound absorbing curtains up so that all would be able to hear the solo guitarist. A main center spot light on stage helped me to know where to focus because I was a little unsure of what to expect from this performance. The guitar soloist was on stage and performed roughly six or eight pieces, none of which were announced by title. Discuss the nature nurture debate in relation to individual development (M1) Evaluate the nature nurture debate in relation to development of the individual (D1) Over the course of the last century one of the greatest debates in psychology concerns, the basis of behaviour, specifically whether behaviour is innate i.e. genetically controlled, or whether it is learnt through the socio cultural environment. This is often referred to as the Nature vs. Nurture debate. There are two main arguments on this issue. The Nativist claims that all behaviour is innate believing that genes control the majority of animal behaviour. On the other hand, the empiricist position suggests that all behaviour is learned through an individuals cultural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It has been argued that the propensity towards intellectual plasticity is determined genetically, but that the environment is what governs the moulding of that plasticity. As such, people who have a genetic propensity to intelligence and a highly stimulating infancy will become most intelligent, while those who have a lower genetic propensity to intelligence may still demonstrate high IQ through a highly structured intervention program. This would explain both Ramey s study, as well as the Devlin argument, and hence support the concept that there might be both a genetic and an environmental influence on intelligence. Naturally there are opposing views, from the Nativists that individual s genetics are determinant in regards to behaviour, and that indeed certain behaviour and instincts are in fact largely under genetic control. A prime example of this is the Chomsky s cognitive theory of language. Chomsky s approach to the study of language emphasizes an innate set of linguistic principles shared by all humans known as universal grammar. N.Chomsky was the first behaviourist to provide a functional, operant analysis of language. He proposed that we are born with a brain mechanism he called the language acquisition device (LAD). Housing, Baseball, and Creeping Socialism The Battle of Chavez Ravine, Los Angeles, 1949 1959 by Thomas S. Hines causes a reaction from the start by failing to include an abstract to aid the reader. Had I not had a background in Chavez Ravine, this would be a crucial negligence. Hines continues his three pages on the architect alone by describing his project Channel Heights s relation to Chavez Ravine: Its shopping center, schools, and community buildings [...] comprised all in all [...] a fine response to the hilly site of coastal ravines (Hines 126 127). An additional three pages are devoted to Alexander and to why he was chosen for the project of Chavez Ravine, which was to be renamed Elysian Park Heights. Hines discusses his work on Baldwin Hills Village similar to Channel Heights. Again, no purpose for including this background is clear. Hines does not even relate back to Chavez Ravine until he writes, Alexander was appointed in 1945 to the Los Angeles City Planning Commission which led him to the project of restoring Chavez Ravine (Hines 128 129). Finally, after six pages, Hines connects to the architects and to Chavez Ravine when he states that Alexander chooses Neutra as his partner. At this point, Hines is now well into the article and still has not established a clear, controlling purpose. This is extremely irritating because it seems he is just reciting collected information. Though Hines draws out the section about the architects plans, the descriptions of Chavez Ravine s architectural redesign demonstrate the architects hope to keep the community in mind. Hines emphasizes this point because of his implied sympathy for the community. He includes a quote from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I had always heard about the fairly advanced Native American tribes in the Mississippi River region, but never has it been explained in great detail to show their true greatness. What surprised me the most is that the population of the Cahokia was so huge in the region as well as the great mounds that were built. The Great Sun, who was the leader of the Cahokia, also was treated as if he must ve been an Egyptian Pharaoh. The Europeans thought that the Native Americans were a savage people who didn t deserve to be the true inhabitants of the New World.
