Ore-Ida Tater Tot Analysis
What is so Special about Ore Ida Tater Tots? There are many techniques that advertisers use in
the creation of advertisements in order to catch people s attention and spark their interest in a
certain product. Advertising influences people using pictures, humor, and the psychological
need for food. However, these are not always successful tactics for initiating interest in
purchasing an item. An advertisement promoting Ore Ida tater tots is one example of a
company who incorporated those various techniques, but in my opinion was not very successful.
A young girl with a skeptical look on her face is pictured sitting at a table, holding up a white
piece of paper with one hand. There are horizontal lines drawn on the paper half an inch apart.
Sitting just in front of the paper, on a plate, are four tater tots dressed in various costumes. One is
dressed as a pirate with an eye patch while the other resembles a... Show more content on

Instead of sparking people s interest in those ways, the tater tot ad uses pictures, humor, and the
psychological need for food. The use of pictures and humor in this advertisement essentially go
hand in hand. In order to fully understand the humor, you must see the picture of the tater tots in
the suspect line up. In Fowles article, he discusses the effect that images have on viewers of
advertisements. He states, Some few ads have their emotional appeal in the text, but for the greater
number by far the appeal is contained in the artwork. This makes sense, since visual
communication better suits more primal levels of the brain (Fowles 75). Even without reading the
words on the ad, the image was successful in grabbing my attention. It is an amusing image that is
not very often seen so I was curious and wanted to read more about

Greensboro Sit Ins And The Civil Rights Movement
Do you feel that there is equality in North Carolina? If you say yes, this is partially due to the
Greensboro Sit Ins and the Civil Rights Movement. Many in North Carolina were impacted by the
audacity of what started as some students and the black community members who protested for
equality of races even right here in North Carolina, where we call home. Despite advances in the
fight for racial equality (including the landmark 1954 Supreme Court verdict in Brown v. Board of
Education and the Montgomery Bus Boycott), segregation was still the norm across the southern
United Statesin 1960. Depending on whose perspective is looked at, some may still feel
segregation is the norm in some cases. These racial segregations have been an issue longer than
one can imagine, but from these certain events, life has improved and has become a lot easier for
everyone in that case. We no longer have to worry about where we sit or who we can or cannot
serve or who we can or cannot talk to.

huge impact not only in North Carolina, but along the Southeast states; thirteen states and fifty five
different cities. This was where a group of four black male freshmen college students at A T State

The Internet is becoming the town square for the global village of tomorrow. by Bill Gates. It is
making the communities of the world more sociable towards each other. Social media is not
making us less communicative considering that it boasts individuals self esteem, expands
connectedness, and has improved sociability. Not all may agree on it being that allegedly it is
makes human beings less social. On the contrary, It develops more friendships. First and
foremost, the web can encourage self love. On social platforms, such as instagram, there is an
ability to posting pictures and on having that ability people can share their confidence boosters .

R. Civ. P. 12(b)(6), a motion to dismiss is proper when the plaintiff fails to state a claim upon

To overcome a 12(b)(6) motion the plaintiff must have enough facts to state a claim of relief that

Pathos In The Way We Get By Aron Gaudilly
In the film The Way We Get By Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly use many rhetorical strategies to
appeal to their audience. Their most used and affective appeal is Pathos. Pathos is an appeal to the
audience s emotions. The filmmakers us the other rhetorical strategies Logos and Ethos but not as
effectively as Pathos.
One of the many uses of Pathos is in the opening scene is when Bill is greeting the soldiers
returning from Afghanistan. The filmmakers did this by using a close up of Bills face while he
was greeting troops, and by following this with a point of view of the soldiers from what appears
to be Bill s perspective. The use of Pathos is an emotional appeal to the audience, by showing Bill
s face the audience sees his emotion which causes the audience to feel the emotion as well.
The Filmmakers used a pattern of medium shots followed by closeups at eye level. They then
used a cut and a still shot to set the location for the next scene. One of the best examples of this is
combined with an appeal to Pathos. Gaudet and Pullapilly start the scene with a still shot of the

The filmmakers use three consecutive close up shots of Joan hugging her daughter. They focus
specifically on their faces and make sure to show the tears on Joan s daughters and Joan s faces.
What was ethically appealing about this scene was that the camera focused on a extreme close
up of Joan talking about war. She talks about how war is a terrible thing and that no one should
ever have to send a child to war. This is emotionally appealing as well as ethically appealing
because most people know that war is ethically wrong, people also get affected by others emotions.
The emotions in this scene are very affecting especially watching Joan and her children hug and

Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa Essay

Eating Disorders are a range of mental health problems. People that suffer from an eating disorder
find their relationships, daily activities and basic health is affected. All ages and sexes can suffer.
But eating disorders, such as Bulimia Nervosa or Anorexia Nervosa, are generally found in
adolescent girls and young women. Anorexia Nervosa affects less than one percent of adolescent
girls and young women, whereas, Bulimia Nervosa affects two percent. Approximately five percent
of people with Anorexia are male. One main alleged cause is the media for their portrayal of young
men and women and using unrealistic body shapes.

Another affect less known is that cancer can also be created in the throat and/or voice box due to

The media, magazines, films, television, advertisements and newspapers can all put incredible
strain on a person s perception of beauty. Found in these are thin women, extremely fit men and
ideas and expectations on how people need to appear in order to be better looking. These people
are viewed as healthy because they are successful when really it is just as unhealthy for people
to be underweight as it is to be overweight. Magazines are generally blamed for rises in eating
disorders from their use of thin models. While showing people what is good for them fashion
wise or appearance wise, they are contradicting themselves by using overly thin models. Arty 15,
wrote in the Sunday Mail (May 13 2007) I think magazines put the most pressure on teens, they

The Assassination of Franz Ferdinand Essay
While there is never just a single event that has led to the start of a world war, or any other
serious war, there is often one thing that triggers long lived tensions and thus war ensues. Such was
the case in WWI with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. There were many tensions
that existed prior to his assassination, but it was his assassination which triggered the war, his
assassination that served as an excuse, and perhaps the last straw, so to speak, which led to the
First World War. The following paper examines the assassination of Franz Ferdinand and its
relationship to the start of WWI. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;Under the rule at the time of the

The European leaders and individuals were perhaps becoming very untrusting of one another,
and the tensions were rising as no one would rely on the agreements made by anyone. nbsp;
nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;As a result of all this tension and distrust,
in combination with the assassination of Ferdinand, many nations came together or attacked
certain nations that were a threat. For example, the assassination led Austria to declare war on
Serbia and Germany declared war on Russia, and then France and then Belgium (Cox). Great
Britain then declared war on Germany and Japan on Germany (Cox). Clearly there were many
tensions that were just waiting for the right moment, the breaking of the camel s back, to push
nations to truly act. And, since other nations were acting, each nation took that as a sign to go
ahead with plans they had perhaps had for several years. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;
nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;In relationship to these tensions were other forces as well. For example,
much of the world was suffering from a depression and this led many to worry and blame others

The Environmental Effects Of Landfills
Not many people know that their trash ends up in a landfill or what it is doing to the
environment. When trash ends up in a landfill it builds up in to a lager pile, starts to release
toxic gases, and pollutes the ground it sits on. Most of the time the trash is burned to make
more room for more trash. Landfills have a big effect on the environment. Landfills make gas
composition. Is there a way to use LFG to our benefit? How many landfills are being used for
their gases in the United States? Some companies are working on using the toxic gases to our
benefit. Even animals are being affected by the trash in landfills. What can people do to help
reduce the trash in landfills? When trash ends up in a landfill it does not decompose like compost
it just sits there because there is lack of oxygenand low amounts of moisture, so it does not break
down very rapidly. Because the trash just sits there, it starts to release gases like sulfur dioxide,
methane, ammonia, hydrogen, and nitrogen oxide. All of those are very toxic for the environment.
The gases in a landfill can move thought soil and collect inside building or homes that are nearby.
These gases can cause health problems for people that breathe them in or are nearby.
Once hydrogen sulfide and ammonia are in the air, it causes coughing, and irritation to people s
eyes, nose, and even the throat. Out of both chemicals, hydrogen sulfide has a foul smell, such as,
rotten eggs while ammonia has a stronger foul smell, such as

However, there are other alternatives that the organization could also explore, such as, loyalty
bonuses, employee recreation, and tuition reimbursement.
Loyalty bonuses should be directly linked to manager performance to recognize and encourage
employees to strive to run their operations effectively, efficiently, and collaboratively. Extrinsic
rewards could take many forms to include gym memberships, mini vacations, and they should also
be tailored to the employee to be more meaningful. Reimbursement for educational degrees and
certifications that are industry related conveys to managers that Tanglewood cares about investing
in their careers. Intrinsic rewards allow the organization to make a difference in retention efforts;

sense of meaning, choice, competence, and progress are all ways to provide intrinsic rewards and
motivation. Typically, flexible working arrangements do not cost the organization any out of pocket
expense and it allows employees to have a better work and life balance. Tanglewood should
establish programs, such as, manager of the month to communicate wide spread recognition for
employees who crave external recognition. Intrinsic rewards are an inexpensive tool that
Tanglewood should incorporate into their retention efforts.

Sleep Disturbances And The Multifactorial Nature Of Insomnia
Age Related Changes. The previously discussed models and hypotheses are important in
understanding the foundation of sleep disturbances and the multifactorial nature of insomnia.
However, it is imperative to also acknowledge the age related changes that effect sleep
architecture and sleep patterns in older adults. The medical field has defined individuals over the
age of 65 as elderly, and those over the age of 75 as geriatric. Many changes involving how sleep is
initiated and maintained occur throughout the lifespan. Subjective inquiries reveal that older adults
on average report spending more time in bed, but less time sleeping, waking more often throughout

Implications
Combined, the foundational models and hypotheses of insomnia along with the age related changes
in sleep architecture contribute to the understanding of the consequences and implications
chronic insomnia in older adults. While sleep disturbances in older adults are often considered a
normal part of aging, there are associated with reduced quality of life, increased healthcare
utilization, institutionalization, as well as a risk factor for poor mental and physical health
(Galimi, 2010; Krishnan Hawranlik, 2008). Insomnia in older adults can lead to disruptions of
sleep in their caregivers, resulting in the decision of institutionalization of an elder. Furthermore,
chronic insomnia can precipitate psychological distress and is associated with difficulties in
attention, slower response times, diminished cognitive abilities, daytime sleepiness, and impaired
memory (Hildalgo et al., 2007). These factors combined can increase the risk of falls, fractures,
and driving accidents in the older adult. Insomnia as a risk factor for falls serves as a strong
predictor of long term care placement (Hill, et al., 2007).
Physical and psychological health implications of chronic insomnia in the older adult contribute to
a decreased quality of life. There is substantial evidence that suggests insomnia is an independent
risk factor for the onset and maintenance of major depression disorder (Pigeon Perlis, 2007).

Predict Sex Is Better Than Postcranial Measurements
predict sex was better than postcranial measurements. Additionally, sexual dimorphic features show
large variation within and between populations (Keen, 1950; AcsГЎdi, and Nemeskeri, 1970;
Workshop of European Anthropologists, 1980; Ubelaker, 1984; Krogman and Д°Еџcan, 1986).
Some sites on the skull have shown a wide range within sexvariation making them less reliable for
sex determination. For example, a projecting nuchal crest is typically associated with a maleskull
but can also appear on a femaleskull, similarly non projecting nuchal crests, typically associated
with a female skull, can also appear on a male skull (Gulekon and Turgut, 2003; Klepinger,
2006). Yet, this and others, are still some of most commonly used sites for sexing. Keen (1950)
expressed that because morphology is often related to size and robustness, determining sex is
extremely difficult unless extreme features are expressed, such as a very small mastoid process
that projects only a small distance for females and a massive mastoid process that projects a
great distance from the inferior margins of the skull for males. Furthermore Meindl et al. (1985)
and Walker (1995) have discussed that the morphology of sites on the skull of both sexes appear
more masculine as the person ages, which would also hinder the accuracy of determining the sex
of skeletal remains. Buikstra and Ubelaker (1994, p.16) also caution that estimation of sex can be
difficult if the observer is not familiar with the overall pattern

The Men Of The 1824 Election
The Men of the 1824 Election The political climate of 1824 was turbulent, a dynamic and would

Assessment of United States Performance in the Vietnam War
The quote is saying that the USA should have won the Vietnam War because they had better
weapons and better trained soldiers than the Vietcong. This can be split into 2 parts: America
should have won and, America had better weapons and training than the Vietcong . I agree with
the first part because America should have won the Vietnam War as they are very powerful. I
disagree with the second part because the Vietcong ha supplies from Russia and China which were
good weapons and they were extremely well trained, but in guerrilla warfare. It does NOT mean
they were less advanced.

America did have better technology which you would have expected them to use toothier
advantage more than they did. Where the American s had helicopters, the Vietcong had bikes. The
American s had bombs which they used in Operation Rolling Thunder. They had a large quantity
of them too as they dropped more bombs than were dropped in the whole of World War II. They
had chemicals such as Agent Orange and Napalm which was special. Regular Napalm just sets fire
to things which can be put out with water or by taking the oxygen away. The American s developed
it so that it could burn without oxygen which created devastating effects. People rolled on the
ground but it continued to burn through their body and it still burnt people when they jumped in
water.
I do disagree that the American s were better trained. They were better trained in conventional
warfare and had a lot of experience from World War II. But the Vietcong matched this. They were
better trained than the American s but not in conventional warfare. They were experts in guerrilla

Essay on Biofilms
A biofilm is a layer consisting of various combinations of many different organisms, autotrophic
and heterotrophic. They are dense, organized communities of cells, encased in a self produced
slime. The bacteria grow together in water like atmospheres, attaching to a solid surface, forming a
small ecosystem. Biofilms are known as a micro environment, a micro habitat, or a slime matrix.
They help decompose dead organisms and recycle carbon and nutrients.
Biofilms are formed on almost any surface that is submerged in non sterile water. Even hot
springs, and glaciers. Examples of common places where biofilms are found are pipes, hulls of
ships, porcelain surface of toilet bowls, wood siding, shower tiles, plastics, wooden cutting boards,

This contains sugars such as glucose, galactose, mannose, fructose, rhamnose, N acetylglucosamine
and others. The fifth step is that the slime layer of EPS and bacteria entraps particulate materials
such as clay, organic materials, dead cells, and precipitated minerals, adding to the diverse biofilm.
The final and continuous step is when other organisms attach to the biofilms.
The formation of biofilms is not random but can be predicted by the process above. The biofilms
become attached to surfaces because of gravity, or bacteria that have a negative charge. The bacteria
senses and goes to the highest concentration of nutrients.
Biofilms are hard to treat for many reasons. The main reason is because they are highly resistant
to antibiotics. This is because the outer cells protect the inner cells from the antibiotic. Therefore,
a long term treatment of antibiotics is required to help the biofilm related infection. Living in
groups, give bacteria properties they didn t have when living alone. Another reason they re hard
to treat is because they are undefeatable by the body s natural immune defense system. Biofilms
avoid chemical disinfection in two different ways. The first is that a gel like polysaccharide layer
provides a physical barrier against any outside agent, biological or chemical. The second is that
even if a biocidal agent is introduced in a large enough quantity to eliminate the living bacteria, then

Nietzsche Influence
Srivaishnav Gandhe Dr.Bird English 453.6 30 Nov. 2017 Thesis Nietzsche and his Influence on
the Modern Western World Nietzsche is an atheist, a life affirming nihilist, an extreme
pessimist, a trickster, a gleefully defiant irreverent rebel and a sick hero , my father said when I
asked, What does Nietzsche mean to you. My father was one of the many people who hated
Nietzsche. And maybe he is right in his own perspective because, What do we do when someone
questions our existence?. What do we do when someone says God is dead?. What do we do
when someone comes and shakes the foundations of our beliefs?. But most of all the question is
what do we do when someone questions everything we believe in?. I wouldn t say Nietzsche is
telling the truth, because even he doesn t believe in the concept of truth. To put it in his words
To tell the truth is to lie according to a fixed convention. So, to me Nietzsche is a not a man who
tells you whether your beliefs are true or false, but challenges you whether your belief about
your beliefs are soundly premised. He upends your universe, so that you can reharmonize it over,
on your own terms. Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche was born on October 15,1844, the son of Karl
Ludwig and Franziska Nietzsche. When young Friedrich was about five years old he lost his
father. Then soon after that he lost his brother. These events left young Friedrich the only male in
the family that included his mother, sister, paternal grandmother and an aunt. Upon the loss of
Karl Ludwig, the family moved to Naumburg, Saxony. Friedrich gained admittance to the
prestigious Schulpforta, where he received Prussia s finest education in Humanities, Theology,
and Classical Languages. In addition, Nietzsche played piano and composed music. In 1864,
Nietzsche entered the University of Bonn, spending the better part of that first year
unproductively, joining a fraternity and socializing with old and new acquaintances. By this time
he had also given up Theology, dashing his mother s hopes of a career in the ministry for him.
Instead he choose the study of classical languages and a career in Philology. In 1865, he followed

Uwm Application Research Paper
I decided to apply to the University of Wisconsin Madison for many reasons. One reason I
applied to UWM was to get closer to nature. In Tustin, California it is extremely difficult to get
some real nature , as the closest thing we have to forest are the palm trees that cover the Orange
County skyline. The closest source of nature here is the beach, and while it is beautiful, it s just not
the same as having deciduous trees changing colors as the seasons change. Universityof Wisconsin
Madison is also on an isthmus, which is a piece of geography I ve never seen before. The idea of
being surrounded by nature excites me very much and it would be different if I was able to
experience all four seasons and not just summer all the time. If I were to attend UWM I would
take advantage of all the nature on and around the campus because it would be something that I
could not experience in my hometown. I also want to go to UWM because I really like the idea of

The Influence of Black Slave Culture on Early America
The Black slaves of colonial America brought their own culture from Africa to the new land.
Despite their persecution, the slave culture has contributed greatly to the development of America s
own music, dance, art, and clothing.
Music
It is understandable that when Africans were torn from their homes and families, lashed into
submission , and forced into lifelong slave labor, they would be, on the most part, resentful and
angry. Various forms of expression, clandestine yet lucent, developed out of these feelings. One
such form was music. Native
African music consisted mainly of wind and string melodies punctuated by hand clapping,
xylophones, and drum beats. Along those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus Africans were rather resistant to the preaching of Christian ministers when they came to
America. The Christian ideas they did absorb, however, were indoctrinated into their lives with the
addition of culture such as gospel music (see Music).
Later, a minister of mainly of African American congregations would use distinctly Black preaching
methods, as when he begins to employ numerous stock phrases and ideas, and, Midway in the
message the preacher begins to chant his words rhythmically.
Art
17th century Africans had art forms that would be considered advanced even today. Most of their
expression was religious in nature. But when they were brought to the New World, В…[slaves]
could not do this because Protestants had always frowned upon religious imagery in the church as
being worldly. Thus, there was little opportunity for the slave to express his creativity in graphic
and plastic art for the church as he had done in Africa where religion and art were inseparable.
Moreover, the slave was afforded few opportunities to carve on his own or his master s time. This
repression of the slave s creativity doubtlessly impeded the development of an African American art
standard. Although slaves could be trained in the practical arts, such as typesetting or furniture
making , they could really not fully express themselves until released from the bonds

Bantu Languages And The Languages
Bantu The word Bantu which means people in many Bantu languages, refers to a group of about
five hundred African languages and to their speakers, today numbering ninety million. The Bantu
people of Sub Saharan Africa, lived about one thousand CE. They shifted from hunting and
gathering to settle agricultureabout four thousand years ago. The Bantu people traveled in to West
Africa and Southward into the present day Congo. As the Bantu people migrated evidence shows
that they absorbed most of the hunting and gathering population that originally inhabited the areas
they migrated to. The farming techniques used by the Bantu required them to move every few
years. The technique is called slash and burn. A patch of the forest is cut down and burned. They
cut down the vegetation using their machetes and billhooks, then the ashes are mixed into the soil
creating a fertile garden area. However, this process caused the land to lose its fertility quickly and
is abandoned for another plot in a new location. When they moved, the Bantu speakers shared their
skills with the people they met, adapted their methods to suit each new environment, and learned
new customs. They followed the Congo River through the rain forests. There they farmed the
riverbanks, the only place that received enough sunlight to support agriculture. As they moved
eastward into the savannas, they adapted their techniques for herding goats and sheep to raising
cattle. Passing through what is now Kenya and

The Discovery Of The 19th Century
In the 19th century Americans saw it as their duty to accomplish what many might believe to be
unrealistic, to connect North America from coast to coast. Manifest Destiny is a term that
describes the attitude that many Americans had during this era of transformation and
progression. Americans claimed the right to bring civilization westward and transform the
unknown world into a land where men could live and be free. However, with this movement of
progression Westward meant destruction for many Native Americans. California native s
suffered greatly due to the invasion and great influx of foreigners into their land due to the
natural resources California offers. These resources attracted many and as a result California
natives witnessed their land being destroyed along with their people and culture stripped away
from them. By 1849, gold was discovered in California which attracted many, all in hope of
finding gold and becoming wealthy off of it. The discovery of gold meant destruction for
California natives, especially the Yuki Indians that lived in Round Valley. Before the gold rush,
there were about 13,000 non Indians in California and by the 1860s census takers counted
362,196 non Indians in California. Due to the discovery of gold, many Yuki Indians and other
California natives were killed to be removed off their land and allow for the excavation of gold.
Killings, rape, disease, and child abduction caused a rapid decrease among the Yuki Indians. From
1850 until 1863,

survival probability in 10, 20 and 30 months favoring low BMI 25 kg/m2.
These results are consistent with many previous studies.
Rodriguez et al. [9] found PC mortality rates to be significantly higher among obese men.
Efstathiou et al. [10] reported greater baseline BMI is independently associated with higher PC
specific mortality in men with locally advanced PC. According to Gong et al.

death. In a prospective cohort study on 5313 men who underwent radical prostatectomy,
Siddiqui et al. [12] demonstrated worse clinical and pathologic features in patients with a higher
BMI. There are additional studies concluding the same results [13 16].

The Druids Essay
The Druids
The Celtic people have a long history. They have been portrayed in films and other such forms
of entertainment many times over. They are seen as a mystery to most. They are shrouded not
only in their hooded cloaks but also in mysticism. Since Christian times Druids have been
depicted as wizards, sorcerers, and soothsayers. In Pre Christian times, however, they were
revered as philosophers, judges, educators, historians, doctors, seers, astronomers, and
astrologers. The word druidae is Celtic in origin. It is said to be derived from the Greek word drus ,
meaning oak , and the Sanskrit word, Vid , meaning knowledge. The Oak tree was a sacred tree to

People have begun to search for what the druids looked like. Early depictions show them
wearing a knee length tunic and a hooded cloak. They were barefooted and carried a book,
mistletoe and a staff. The chief sources anyone has on the druids originated from Julius Caesar
and the Romans. Much information comes from archaeological remains and literature from early
monks. Analogies can also be drawn from the Hindu people. One such analogy would be the idea
of reincarnation. The Hindu people believed that the atman was merely reborn until it reached it
final plateau. The druids believed that clouds were a gathering of souls waiting to be reborn so
that they could find the answer to get to the next evolution. (crystalinks) Through archaeological
studies scientists have found the remains of votive offerings on lake bottoms and votive pits. This
shows us a great deal about the Celtic religion. Archaeologists have also found Celtic fortresses,
habitations, temples, jewelry and tools. These finds show us what life was like, what their
technological capeability was, what food they ate, what crafts and trades they practiced, what
products they made and traded and where they travelled and how they got there. This is important

The Performance Of Tone Mapping
3 PREVIOUS WORK
Because of the great interest of HDR images and their advantages, tone mapping techniques are
used to display these images on LDR devices. Many researchers made different studies for
evaluating the performance of tone mapping algorithms. Debevec and Malik proposed that a
HDR image can be created from three or more LDR images of the same scene under different
exposures. Through technological advances and the development of photograph technology, we
can get access to HDR cameras which can take HDR photos and videos directly now. Therefore,
there is an increasing demand for tone mapping algorithms. There are two types of tone mapping
algorithm: global operators and local operators. The global tone mapping methods are simply
mapped the input HDR image I^h (x,y) to an output LDR image I^l (x,y) = f (I^h (x,y)) , where f ()
is a global compression function which is spatially invariant, such as gamma function, linear
function, histogram based function and the function adapted to tone reproduction curves. Hence,
the local tone mapping methods decompose the input HDR image into multiple layers or areas,
apply different compressing algorithm in different layers or areas and recombine all the layers
or areas into a LDR image. Similar with Durand, Farbman which segmented the HDR image into
two layer a base layer and a detail layer, while the base layer is obtained by applying an alternative
edge reserving smoothing operator and the detail layer is obtained by

Analysis Of Pablo Picasso And The Three Dancers
During heart breaking times, the despair can sometimes be revealed in the form of dance. Artists
often work this art form into their paintings, sculptures, music videos, and drawings, revealing how
the power of dance can reflect upon those emotions. Likewise, in the painting Les Trois Danseuses,
more commonly known as The Three Dancers, the artist, Pablo Picasso (1881 1973) portrays three
distorted dancers. The paintingwas created between Picasso s Cubismand Classicism periods, in the
year of 1925. Picasso exemplified the heart breaking suicide of his friend, Carlos Casagemas, who
had been involved in a triangular love affair illustrated within the painting (Tate para 1). Similarly,
within the painting Dancers at the Barre, by the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The background appears to be an open balcony window, possibly allowing the dancers to reflect on
their experiences. A sense of fresh air, a cleansing of themselves, may also be interpreted, further
portraying the dance itself. Although the three dancers appear to be polar opposites, they are
brought together through the art of dance, each holding hands and changing their rhythms.
The use of scale and shape, variety, repetition, and color aid in exemplifying the underlying
theme of tragedy within Picasso s painting. The image emphasizes the variety of shapes, which
causes the concept of chaos to be highlighted. This chaos reveals the different aspects that each
of the dancers possesses. A rather prominent variety in shapes and colors provides interest by
causing little focus on one specific frame. An array of colors provides for character within each
dancer. The leftmost dancer shares colors with the other two, creating a sense of being a part of
each. Bold reds, dull pinks, and bright blues cause this dancer to be portrayed as the most
chaotic, along with the random patterns and variety of shapes that captivate the dancer s body.
Possibly resembling how hardships and successes can affect an individual. A combination of dark
colors and white with jagged, geometric lines, the dancer on the far right appears to resemble the
efforts of good and evil; however, in this case, the dark seems to be

The Magic Lantern Was Used In The Early Age Of Animation
There were many devices that were used in the early age of animation. One of them was the
magic lantern. The magic lantern was the first device to be made in the early age of animation.
It was created in the 1600 s by Athanasius Kircher. It projected images onto a wall. The magic
lantern that Athanasius Kircher created was a small box. A hole was cut into a side and a light
source was placed inside the box such as a candle. There was a curved mirror behind the light
source, and in front of the light source was a lens. The mirror reflects the light from the light
source and it goes through the lens and out of the hole in the box. If a glass slide with an image
was placed in front of the hole in the box, the image would reflect onto the wall.

This law involves inheritance of biological features. In 1915 Mendel s theories were integrated with

Law of Independent Assortment
The Law of Independent Assortment states that alleles for separate traits are passed from parents to
offspring independently from each other. Proof of this principle was achieved through dihybrid and
monohybrid cross experiments. Independent assortment occurs in eukaryotic organisms during
meiotic metaphase I, and produces a gamete with a mixture of the organism s chromosomes. The
physical basis of the independent assortment of chromosomes is the random orientation of each
bivalent chromosome along the metaphase plate with respect to the other bivalent chromosomes.
Along with crossing over, independent assortment increases genetic diversity by producing many
genetic combinations.
Law of Dominance
Mendel s Law of Dominance states that recessive alleles will always be masked by dominant
alleles. This means a cross between a homozygous dominant and a homozygous recessive will
always express the dominant phenotype whilst still having a heterozygous genotype. Proof of this
principle was achieved using a mono hybrid cross experiment: In a cross between two organisms
of contrasting traits the trait that is expressed is called dominant and the trait that is suppressed is
called recessive.
Dominance and Co dominance
Dominance and co dominance was discovered by Gregor Mendel when he found that if two
parents with different variations of a similar trait were cross bred, the offspring would only display
one of these

Managing strategic change is fundamental to business success
Module No: 368SAM Module Title: Strategy in Action
Student Name: Zhi Long Sia Student ID: 5225745 Strategic change management is the
management decisions and process for long term structure in the organisation. The strategic change
management defined as the process as a systematic approach for managing strategic change which
consists of positioning the firm through strategy and capability planning, real time strategic
response through issue management and systematic management of resistance during strategic
implementation (Karami, A. and Analoui, F. 2003:4). It also means that it is a set of tools for
managing the people side of change to achieve the required outcome of a change project.
Strategic change management has divided into three elements, which are situational awareness,
supporting structure and strategy analysis. To build up situational awareness had three steps.
Firstly, change characteristic. Understand of the change and who will be impacted by it. Next,
organizational attributes which mean work to understand the people or groups being impacted by
the change. The organizational attributes are related to the history and culture in the organization
and describe the backdrop against which this particular change is being introduced (Thompson, J.

Abortions Pros and Cons Essay
Nowadays, in this world, there are a lot of problems that can make tremendous conflicts for
human beings. They are very complicated and bring a lot of argument and nobody knows what
the exact answer is. They also have pros and cons. One of the most complex problems is
abortion. This is due to moral and ethical values which we all have. The majority of us are
Christians or are brought up in that kind of ambiance which means that as small children we were
taught values that are based on the bible such as that famous phrase Thou shall not kill . This
phrase relates to this topic because an abortionis the murder of a human being.

restriction: (1) when the life of the woman is endangered or (2) in cases of rape or incest. Since all
of this was being approved we as a society thought that we could get rid of some of our social
concerns. But it did the complete opposite here are some examples Illegitimate births were at a

and lastly Children on Welfare 8.5% and again that number managed to raise to a 11.9% according

Some of the proposed solutions for this abortion dilemma are making adoption more open to our
current society. This is believed to help stop abortions incases in which the mother cannot support
the unborn child or she wants to avoid raising the unborn child past its birth. This would be an
option for almost anybody considering abortion. As for younger teenagers the promoting of
abstinence rather than the use of contraceptives. This option would be better because it is popular

money to have their chapels, or any setting appear better than their rivals. Michelangelo s
artwork dominates over any other in the Sistine chapel. The Sistine chapel is the ideal place of
where new popes are elected. Michelangelo brought along his love for sculpting in his paintings.
There are about three hundred figures on the Sistine Chapel s ceiling, and no two appear the
same. Michelangelo s artwork has an enormous variety of expression. Arguably Michelangelo s
best painting; The Creation of Adam perfectly represents his ideas. God is shown flying through
the sky; while Adam is bound to the earth. Beneath the Lord s left arm appears to be Eve, waiting
to be born. The viewer s eye follows the entire arm motion perfectly, which ends up pointing at
Christ s child face. Michelangelo s figures differ greatly from Leonardo Da Vinci s formal poses
and gestures. Michelangelo s figures include

How Did Colonial Society Change In The 18th Century
By the 18th century the colonial society changed drastically. As the population increased the
economic and social system changed. With the new forms of trade colonies were able to implement
commodity money to obtain goods.Let alone, by the 18th century, colonies had different types of
government as well as different commodity money creating some conflicts between the colonies
commerce. Furthermore, there were three types of political system among the thirteen colonies.
Such as the provincial colonies, the proprietary colonies, and the charter colonies. In addition,
society also experienced some changes. For example, before the 18th century women had less
power in their bodies. But new ideas and belief changed the way women viewed marriage.... Show

This invention made it possible to print the Bible and other religious books, giving more power
to the churches to spread religion in the colonies. As the primary source Blueprint of Protograph
of Christ church described religion was very important in the British colonies. For example, in
Virgina the Anglican church was the official religion, all residents had to attend to church if not
they received a fine. Religion played an important role in politics and socioeconomic system in
the colonies. As a matter of fact, religion separated people based on their class status.White
people with money would seat at the front, poor white in the back and enslaves men and women
would seat closest to the door if not stood. What surprised me the most was how churches would
say that all people were equal under God, but they separated people based on their social status.

Rap Music Influence
In experiments on over 500 college students, who often work cheaper than guinea pigs and have
less complicated musical tastes, subjects were found to experience a increase in aggressive
thoughts after listening to songs with violent lyrics, (Morrison, 1). Based on this information
people can conclude that since rap lyrics are violent often, it is the main cause for aggressive
thoughts caused from hip hop. Rap music causes lots of violenceevery year and it is only used for
entertainment purposes. Rap has no value for learning anything; it is just a hostile form of
music most times. Rap music can influence teens because it can encourage violent behavior, and
it can make kids start using drugs, also it can influence illegal activities. Hip hop and rap lyrics
have no educational worth, (McWhorter, 1). Rap is going downhill and albums are starting to
sell less. This is because of new rappers and people seeing the truth about rap. As the new music
groups and better music start coming in, it just kicks rap out of the picture. Hip hop will soon
become nothing unless it can be more passive and non aggressive in its lyrics. When people start...

On that day, two of the school s students went on a shooting spree, killing thirteen people and
wounding more than twenty before taking their own lives, (Keeley, 91). This is proof that
children and teens are susceptible to violent lyrics more than adults. Parents need to try their
best to keep violence out of their kid s life. If people work together and be friendlier with their
lyrics, the world would be a better place. Not all raps are bad though, as long as it doesn t have
offensive or violent things in it Rap is a good genre of music. The things that tear rap apart is all
the offense it has in it, otherwise it would sell way more and people wouldn t try getting rid of it

What Role Did Babe Ruth Play In The 1920s
Never allow the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game! This quote was famously
said by one of the greatest baseball players ever Babe Ruth. Babe Ruth played in the 1920s era.
This was a time of low unemployment, so many citizens spent their salaries on many activities:
going to the movies, listening to jazz music, and watching sporting events. The 1920s became a
time for people to enjoy their time and live life with laissez faire, or a policy or attitude of letting
things take their own course. The 1920s also became a time for sports to take full effect. Athletes,
such as Babe Ruth, Benny Leonard, and Harold Osborn, were at the forefront of making sports
popular in the United States. Citizens of the 1920s wanted to have fun... Show more content on

Many people consider Babe as the greatest to play the game. The records Babe Ruth set is a
testament to how amazing of a player he really was. While playing for the Red Sox in 1919, Babe
set the single season record for home runs at 29(biography). In the next season, now with the New
York Yankees, Ruth close to doubled his single season home runrecord to 54(biography). Following
the 54 home run season Ruth set the outstanding record of 59 home runs(biography). It only took
Ruth 10 seasons to become one of the greatest home run hitters anyone has ever seen. Ruth s
success on the baseball diamond made him a household name; so much so, that the new Yankee
Stadium (built in 1923) was dubbed the house that Ruth built (biography). When everyone
thought that Babe was incredible at setting the total home runs to 59, Ruth outdid himself again
to set godly mark of 60 homeruns in one season during the 1927 season(biography).
Unsurprisingly, this record stood for an amazing 34 years. No one had ever seen a player as
great as what Babe Ruth was during the 1920s. During the 1920s, Ruth broke practically all of
the slugging records. These include most years leading a league in home runs (12); most total
bases in a season (457); and highest slugging percentage for a season (.847) (biography). Based on
his prestigious baseball career, Babe Ruth was one of the most influential athletes during the

A Summary Of Biopsychology
The video begins by showing balls of a variety of colors after being tossed up slightly and
beginning to bounce on a graduated blue surface. In the beginning, all the balls, which have a
shadow as they bounce, seem to be bouncing in synchrony, are in clear focus, and are roughly the
same size. However, as the video progresses, the color of the background continually changes
and the shadows have seemingly disappeared. The balls are bouncing any which way, and seem
to have spread out. The balls that have gravitated towards the back are blurry and small, while
the ones in the front are of an increasingly large size and are in clear focus, so much so, that you
can see a reflection off of their surface as they bounce off the camera. At the end of... Show more

It is called the striate cortex because of the white stripes that are created by nerve fibers that run
through it. From the striate cortex, signals are transmitted along two pathways, one to the temporal
lobe and the other to the parietal lobe. The where and what pathways start at the striate cortex, and
transmit information to other areas of the brain. The where pathway, also known as the Parietal or
Dorsal Stream, helps the motor system find objects and move towards them. In this pathway you
can find the medial temporal cortex, which receives signals from the striate cortex and combines
them with its neurons to determine the direction and perception of motion. The primary purpose
of the what pathway, also referred to as the Ventral or Temporal Stream, is to identify objects. The
striate cortex also has neurons that respond to specific amounts of disparity, the difference in the
images in the left and right eyes. These neurons have a connection with depth perception as well as
size perception. Depth perception involves a number of stages of processing that begins in the
primary visual cortex and extends to many different areas in both the ventral and dorsal

Some people do not have to fortunate of having such a thing. Other people have fathers that do
terrible things (such as murder, rape, or stealing) to either others or themselves.
While this author believes that Euthyphro willing to prosecute his father for murder is quite
justifiable, Agamemnon s actions are not. Although both stories involve murder, one is deliberate
(sacrifice for war), while the other is unintentional (involuntary manslaughter). Euthyphro brings up
the point that it does not matter if a victim is a relative or stranger; justice should be served. What

called the United States of America. My journey is full of new surprises and discoveries of a
world so different from the one I am leaving behind, with its own beliefs and culture. This is the
story of an eighteen year boy and his first encounter with a new society, his first time away from
home and family. It was not an easy decision moving to a different country, leaving behind
everything and everybody, but I had the anxiety of traveling and seeing this new world that I
had seen only in the movies, the land of Christopher Columbus, where Indians and African
Americans lived unified on a vast territory. I still remember the feeling when my parents said
that we are moving to America. It was the time when I felt everything around the world had been
stopped, and I did not know what I should do next. I was unable to decide whether life was
making me move forward or it would cause me to face more trouble than achievement. I was
amazed by looking at the Diversity of people. I knew that there were drastic changes which
would be arising in my life which I seemed that it was hard to digest, but it seemed that the USA

Microbial Regulation oin the Food Industry
Microbiology Topic Paper:
Microbial Regulation in the Food Industry
Microorganisms have been involved I the development of food items throughout history. Although
at first it may have not been intentional over time humans have study and experimented with
culturing microbes to prolong the shelf life of foods, inadvertently changing the taste and textures
of the food item as well. As safety concerns spread in the 1900s regulations were formed to ensure
the safety and well being of humans. In the United States, the U.S. Food and Drug Admiration is
the organization that determines the overall safeness of a food element.
When Microbes are used in food they tend to fall under two types of categories in the FDA
regulatory classifications. The first category would be the generally recognized as safe category
or GRAS published as a proposed rule in 1997. Microbes considered GRAS fall under multiple
definitions. If a microbe was utilized prior to 1958 as an additive with no apparent side effects
and proven to be safe over time, it will fall under GRAS via being grandfathered in. Another way
in which a microbe additive will be considered GRAS is through common knowledge. Common
knowledge is the assumed awareness that experts have in knowing that a microbe is naturally in the
development in the food process. For example if a microbe is naturally present in yogurt, such as S.
thermophiles, then supplementary amounts of the same microbes being added to the yogurt

Change In Government And Politics In Japan, 1931-1941
Throughout the years of 1931 1941, Japan was politically unstable due to divisions among
politicians and those in the military. Due to those divisions, the government had changed
multiple times as a result of power struggles within the different government factions, and
actions of the military. Change in government were a way for Japan to survive through these
times with different leaders, albeit the military had most control over the political situation in
Japan. Just as a bicycle would be used for survival, Japan was trying to survive through different
government factions to lead the country. There were two leading factions within Japan between
1931 and 1941; the Koda ha and the Tosei ha, both being imperialist and expansionist, with Koda
ha the more radical group. The Koda ha believed the best way for Japan to survive and thrive was

I stared at them, repeating the name in my head. Legos. It was a funny name. They looked like
colorful bricks with holes in them. Can we get them? I asked. Sure enough, we were carrying a box
of them to the checkout section.
Crazy as it seemed, the small blocks mesmerized me as a kid. The different colors, sizes, shapes,

different sayings like, we re ready for takeoff. I had learned all this just by reading off the box at the
store, and I knew I just had to have it.
Can I... Before I finished my sentence, my mom said, Can you finish it? That is what you should
be asking yourself. I don t want to buy you something that expensive unless I know you can

than any other Lego I had done before. The pieces piled high and the instructions went on forever. It
was the ultimate challenge.
The ultimate challenge was a bit too challenging. I grew tired of building the shuttle, and soon
gave up on it. It was too long for me. This began the downfall of my addiction to Legos. Soon, I
also began getting tired of rebuilding the battleship over and over again, and the instructions for the

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Instruction In Higher...
Nowadays, the role of technology in instruction is undeniable. We live in a digital world. No one
should go back to 19th century s teaching method. Instruction using technology to deliver
coursework in higher education has seen an unquestionable explosion (Scott, 1999). Although the
use of technology in higher educationis more prevalent, it also shows it s significant in early

Richard E. Clark stated in his research (Clark, 1994):
First, there was no significant difference in test scores between the two groups despite the
experimental groups not attending even a single on campus lecture. This was amazing to those
associated with the study, all of whom half hoped to validate the significance of the class lecturer to
the learning process. This is not to say that Internet based instruction was not heavily impacted by
the instructor. It only suggests that role of the instructor changed for the Internet based instruction.
Therefore, distance education might not necessary prevails the learning in authentic classroom.
There are some downsides for distance learning too. For instance, the virtual and non face to face
learning space might makes some students feel lonely and isolated. They could not experience the
conviviality of a campus life. Although this problem can be solved by frequent online contact with
instructors and taking part in virtual help groups, virtual forums or virtual campus (Fominykh,
Prasolova FГёrland, Morozov, Gerasimov, 2011), there is no credible collaboration among the
students. In this point, the theory of Vygotsky which advocated that learning occurs throughout the
process of social interaction, is not implemented (Vygotsky,

  • 2. Ore-Ida Tater Tot Analysis What is so Special about Ore Ida Tater Tots? There are many techniques that advertisers use in the creation of advertisements in order to catch people s attention and spark their interest in a certain product. Advertising influences people using pictures, humor, and the psychological need for food. However, these are not always successful tactics for initiating interest in purchasing an item. An advertisement promoting Ore Ida tater tots is one example of a company who incorporated those various techniques, but in my opinion was not very successful. A young girl with a skeptical look on her face is pictured sitting at a table, holding up a white piece of paper with one hand. There are horizontal lines drawn on the paper half an inch apart. Sitting just in front of the paper, on a plate, are four tater tots dressed in various costumes. One is dressed as a pirate with an eye patch while the other resembles a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead of sparking people s interest in those ways, the tater tot ad uses pictures, humor, and the psychological need for food. The use of pictures and humor in this advertisement essentially go hand in hand. In order to fully understand the humor, you must see the picture of the tater tots in the suspect line up. In Fowles article, he discusses the effect that images have on viewers of advertisements. He states, Some few ads have their emotional appeal in the text, but for the greater number by far the appeal is contained in the artwork. This makes sense, since visual communication better suits more primal levels of the brain (Fowles 75). Even without reading the words on the ad, the image was successful in grabbing my attention. It is an amusing image that is not very often seen so I was curious and wanted to read more about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Greensboro Sit Ins And The Civil Rights Movement Do you feel that there is equality in North Carolina? If you say yes, this is partially due to the Greensboro Sit Ins and the Civil Rights Movement. Many in North Carolina were impacted by the audacity of what started as some students and the black community members who protested for equality of races even right here in North Carolina, where we call home. Despite advances in the fight for racial equality (including the landmark 1954 Supreme Court verdict in Brown v. Board of Education and the Montgomery Bus Boycott), segregation was still the norm across the southern United Statesin 1960. Depending on whose perspective is looked at, some may still feel segregation is the norm in some cases. These racial segregations have been an issue longer than one can imagine, but from these certain events, life has improved and has become a lot easier for everyone in that case. We no longer have to worry about where we sit or who we can or cannot serve or who we can or cannot talk to. February 1st, 1960; the Greensboro Sit Ins; Franklin McCain, Ezell Blair, Jr., Joseph McNeil, and David Richmond. Segregated conditions were as characteristic of Greensboro, however, as they were of cities with reputations for racial violence and intimidation. The Greensboro Sit Ins made a huge impact not only in North Carolina, but along the Southeast states; thirteen states and fifty five different cities. Their most used and affective appeal is Pathos. Pathos is an appeal to the audience s emotions. The filmmakers us the other rhetorical strategies Logos and Ethos but not as effectively as Pathos. One of the many uses of Pathos is in the opening scene is when Bill is greeting the soldiers returning from Afghanistan. The filmmakers did this by using a close up of Bills face while he was greeting troops, and by following this with a point of view of the soldiers from what appears to be Bill s perspective. The use of Pathos is an emotional appeal to the audience, by showing Bill s face the audience sees his emotion which causes the audience to feel the emotion as well. The Filmmakers used a pattern of medium shots followed by closeups at eye level. They then used a cut and a still shot to set the location for the next scene. One of the best examples of this is combined with an appeal to Pathos. Gaudet and Pullapilly start the scene with a still shot of the Bangor Hospital to set the location for ... The Assassination of Franz Ferdinand Essay While there is never just a single event that has led to the start of a world war, or any other serious war, there is often one thing that triggers long lived tensions and thus war ensues. Such was the case in WWI with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. There were many tensions that existed prior to his assassination, but it was his assassination which triggered the war, his assassination that served as an excuse, and perhaps the last straw, so to speak, which led to the First World War. • 13. The Environmental Effects Of Landfills Not many people know that their trash ends up in a landfill or what it is doing to the environment. When trash ends up in a landfill it builds up in to a lager pile, starts to release toxic gases, and pollutes the ground it sits on. Most of the time the trash is burned to make more room for more trash. Landfills have a big effect on the environment. Landfills make gas composition. Is there a way to use LFG to our benefit? How many landfills are being used for their gases in the United States? Some companies are working on using the toxic gases to our benefit. Even animals are being affected by the trash in landfills. What can people do to help reduce the trash in landfills? When trash ends up in a landfill it does not decompose like compost it just sits there because there is lack of oxygenand low amounts of moisture, so it does not break down very rapidly. Because the trash just sits there, it starts to release gases like sulfur dioxide, methane, ammonia, hydrogen, and nitrogen oxide. All of those are very toxic for the environment. The gases in a landfill can move thought soil and collect inside building or homes that are nearby. These gases can cause health problems for people that breathe them in or are nearby. Once hydrogen sulfide and ammonia are in the air, it causes coughing, and irritation to people s eyes, nose, and even the throat. The previously discussed models and hypotheses are important in understanding the foundation of sleep disturbances and the multifactorial nature of insomnia. However, it is imperative to also acknowledge the age related changes that effect sleep architecture and sleep patterns in older adults. The medical field has defined individuals over the age of 65 as elderly, and those over the age of 75 as geriatric. Implications Combined, the foundational models and hypotheses of insomnia along with the age related changes in sleep architecture contribute to the understanding of the consequences and implications chronic insomnia in older adults. While sleep disturbances in older adults are often considered a normal part of aging, there are associated with reduced quality of life, increased healthcare utilization, institutionalization, as well as a risk factor for poor mental and physical health (Galimi, 2010; Krishnan Hawranlik, 2008). Insomnia in older adults can lead to disruptions of sleep in their caregivers, resulting in the decision of institutionalization of an elder. Furthermore, chronic insomnia can precipitate psychological distress and is associated with difficulties in attention, slower response times, diminished cognitive abilities, daytime sleepiness, and impaired memory (Hildalgo et al., 2007). These factors combined can increase the risk of falls, fractures, and driving accidents in the older adult. Insomnia as a risk factor for falls serves as a strong predictor of long term care placement (Hill, et al., 2007). Yet, this and others, are still some of most commonly used sites for sexing. Keen (1950) expressed that because morphology is often related to size and robustness, determining sex is extremely difficult unless extreme features are expressed, such as a very small mastoid process that projects only a small distance for females and a massive mastoid process that projects a great distance from the inferior margins of the skull for males. Furthermore Meindl et al. (1985) and Walker (1995) have discussed that the morphology of sites on the skull of both sexes appear more masculine as the person ages, which would also hinder the accuracy of determining the sex of skeletal remains. They are dense, organized communities of cells, encased in a self produced slime. The bacteria grow together in water like atmospheres, attaching to a solid surface, forming a small ecosystem. Biofilms are known as a micro environment, a micro habitat, or a slime matrix. They help decompose dead organisms and recycle carbon and nutrients. The fifth step is that the slime layer of EPS and bacteria entraps particulate materials such as clay, organic materials, dead cells, and precipitated minerals, adding to the diverse biofilm. The final and continuous step is when other organisms attach to the biofilms. The formation of biofilms is not random but can be predicted by the process above. The biofilms become attached to surfaces because of gravity, or bacteria that have a negative charge. The bacteria senses and goes to the highest concentration of nutrients. Biofilms are hard to treat for many reasons. The main reason is because they are highly resistant to antibiotics. This is because the outer cells protect the inner cells from the antibiotic. Therefore, a long term treatment of antibiotics is required to help the biofilm related infection. Living in groups, give bacteria properties they didn t have when living alone. Another reason they re hard to treat is because they are undefeatable by the body s natural immune defense system. Biofilms avoid chemical disinfection in two different ways. Nietzsche Influence Srivaishnav Gandhe Dr.Bird English 453.6 30 Nov. 2017 Thesis Nietzsche and his Influence on the Modern Western World Nietzsche is an atheist, a life affirming nihilist, an extreme pessimist, a trickster, a gleefully defiant irreverent rebel and a sick hero , my father said when I asked, What does Nietzsche mean to you. My father was one of the many people who hated Nietzsche. And maybe he is right in his own perspective because, What do we do when someone questions our existence?. What do we do when someone says God is dead?. What do we do when someone comes and shakes the foundations of our beliefs?. But most of all the question is what do we do when someone questions everything we believe in?. I wouldn t say Nietzsche is telling the truth, because even he doesn t believe in the concept of truth. To put it in his words To tell the truth is to lie according to a fixed convention. So, to me Nietzsche is a not a man who tells you whether your beliefs are true or false, but challenges you whether your belief about your beliefs are soundly premised. He upends your universe, so that you can reharmonize it over, on your own terms. Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche was born on October 15,1844, the son of Karl Ludwig and Franziska Nietzsche. When young Friedrich was about five years old he lost his father. Then soon after that he lost his brother. These events left young Friedrich the only male in the family that included his mother, sister, paternal grandmother and an aunt. Upon the loss of Karl Ludwig, the family moved to Naumburg, Saxony. Friedrich gained admittance to the prestigious Schulpforta, where he received Prussia s finest education in Humanities, Theology, and Classical Languages. In addition, Nietzsche played piano and composed music. The Bantu people traveled in to West Africa and Southward into the present day Congo. As the Bantu people migrated evidence shows that they absorbed most of the hunting and gathering population that originally inhabited the areas they migrated to. The farming techniques used by the Bantu required them to move every few years. The technique is called slash and burn. A patch of the forest is cut down and burned. They cut down the vegetation using their machetes and billhooks, then the ashes are mixed into the soil creating a fertile garden area. However, this process caused the land to lose its fertility quickly and is abandoned for another plot in a new location. These results are consistent with many previous studies. Rodriguez et al. [9] found PC mortality rates to be significantly higher among obese men. Efstathiou et al. [10] reported greater baseline BMI is independently associated with higher PC specific mortality in men with locally advanced PC. According to Gong et al. [12] demonstrated worse clinical and pathologic features in patients with a higher BMI. There are additional studies concluding the same results [13 16]. On the other hand, our results contradict some studies that reported better effects of obesity on PC. The chief sources anyone has on the druids originated from Julius Caesar and the Romans. Much information comes from archaeological remains and literature from early monks. Analogies can also be drawn from the Hindu people. One such analogy would be the idea of reincarnation. The Hindu people believed that the atman was merely reborn until it reached it final plateau. The druids believed that clouds were a gathering of souls waiting to be reborn so that they could find the answer to get to the next evolution. • 32. The Performance Of Tone Mapping 3 PREVIOUS WORK Because of the great interest of HDR images and their advantages, tone mapping techniques are used to display these images on LDR devices. Many researchers made different studies for evaluating the performance of tone mapping algorithms. Debevec and Malik proposed that a HDR image can be created from three or more LDR images of the same scene under different exposures. Through technological advances and the development of photograph technology, we can get access to HDR cameras which can take HDR photos and videos directly now. Therefore, there is an increasing demand for tone mapping algorithms. There are two types of tone mapping algorithm: global operators and local operators. The global tone mapping methods are simply mapped the input HDR image I^h (x,y) to an output LDR image I^l (x,y) = f (I^h (x,y)) , where f () is a global compression function which is spatially invariant, such as gamma function, linear function, histogram based function and the function adapted to tone reproduction curves. Hence, the local tone mapping methods decompose the input HDR image into multiple layers or areas, apply different compressing algorithm in different layers or areas and recombine all the layers or areas into a LDR image. Similar with Durand, Farbman which segmented the HDR image into two layer a base layer and a detail layer, while the base layer is obtained by applying an alternative edge reserving smoothing operator and the detail layer is obtained by ... Artists often work this art form into their paintings, sculptures, music videos, and drawings, revealing how the power of dance can reflect upon those emotions. Likewise, in the painting Les Trois Danseuses, more commonly known as The Three Dancers, the artist, Pablo Picasso (1881 1973) portrays three distorted dancers. The paintingwas created between Picasso s Cubismand Classicism periods, in the year of 1925. The background appears to be an open balcony window, possibly allowing the dancers to reflect on their experiences. A sense of fresh air, a cleansing of themselves, may also be interpreted, further portraying the dance itself. Although the three dancers appear to be polar opposites, they are brought together through the art of dance, each holding hands and changing their rhythms. The use of scale and shape, variety, repetition, and color aid in exemplifying the underlying theme of tragedy within Picasso s painting. The image emphasizes the variety of shapes, which causes the concept of chaos to be highlighted. This chaos reveals the different aspects that each of the dancers possesses. A rather prominent variety in shapes and colors provides interest by causing little focus on one specific frame. An array of colors provides for character within each dancer. The leftmost dancer shares colors with the other two, creating a sense of being a part of each. Bold reds, dull pinks, and bright blues cause this dancer to be portrayed as the most chaotic, along with the random patterns and variety of shapes that captivate the dancer s body. Possibly resembling how hardships and successes can affect an individual. Law of Independent Assortment The Law of Independent Assortment states that alleles for separate traits are passed from parents to offspring independently from each other. Proof of this principle was achieved through dihybrid and monohybrid cross experiments. Independent assortment occurs in eukaryotic organisms during meiotic metaphase I, and produces a gamete with a mixture of the organism s chromosomes. The physical basis of the independent assortment of chromosomes is the random orientation of each bivalent chromosome along the metaphase plate with respect to the other bivalent chromosomes. Along with crossing over, independent assortment increases genetic diversity by producing many genetic combinations. Law of Dominance Mendel s Law of Dominance states that recessive alleles will always be masked by dominant alleles. This means a cross between a homozygous dominant and a homozygous recessive will always express the dominant phenotype whilst still having a heterozygous genotype. Proof of this principle was achieved using a mono hybrid cross experiment: In a cross between two organisms of contrasting traits the trait that is expressed is called dominant and the trait that is suppressed is called recessive. Although at first it may have not been intentional over time humans have study and experimented with culturing microbes to prolong the shelf life of foods, inadvertently changing the taste and textures of the food item as well. As safety concerns spread in the 1900s regulations were formed to ensure the safety and well being of humans. In the United States, the U.S. Food and Drug Admiration is the organization that determines the overall safeness of a food element. When Microbes are used in food they tend to fall under two types of categories in the FDA regulatory classifications. The first category would be the generally recognized as safe category or GRAS published as a proposed rule in 1997. Microbes considered GRAS fall under multiple definitions. If a microbe was utilized prior to 1958 as an additive with no apparent side effects and proven to be safe over time, it will fall under GRAS via being grandfathered in. Another way in which a microbe additive will be considered GRAS is through common knowledge. The pieces piled high and the instructions went on forever. It was the ultimate challenge. The ultimate challenge was a bit too challenging. I grew tired of building the shuttle, and soon gave up on it. It was too long for me. This began the downfall of my addiction to Legos. Soon, I also began getting tired of rebuilding the battleship over and over again, and the instructions for the rides of Kaynexв„ў got lost when our basement flooded. Also, I wasn t allowed to get any new Lego sets until I Finished the ones I had. I don t spend nearly as much time on Legos as I used to. Time that I used to spend sitting ...
