Use Of Measure Disability And Level Of An Individual s Health
Currently, two other instruments are utilized to measure disability and level of functioning. The two
instruments are: 1.) The RAND 36 Item Short Form Survey (SF 36) and
2.) the Functional Independence Measure (FIM) (Üstün et al., 2010b). Both of these measures are
often compared to the WHODAS 2.0. However, they both vary slightly from the WHODAS
2.0. The SF 36 is a generic quality of life measurement that assesses an individual s health status
(Ware, 2000). This measureme relies specifically on an individual s self reported perceptions related to
the following eight domains: physical functioning, bodily pain, role limitations due to physical health
problems, role limitations due to personal or emotional problems, emotional well being, social
functioning, energy/fatigue, and general health (Ware,
2000). The SF 36 is heavily utilized by managed care organizations and Medicare when monitoring
and assessing progress in adult individuals (Ware, 2000). In regards to scoring the
SF 36, this is a two step process in which scores have to be recoded and then averaged together to
create scale scores for each domain (Ware, 2000). Research on the SF 36 has concluded that it is
relatively easy to score, as long as clinicians follow the two step scoring process (Ware,
2000). It is also important to note that the SF 36 is in the public domain, available in multiple
languages, and has good reliability and validity (Ware, 2000). However, one of the major

Socio- Cultural Issue and Education
Final Paper
Socio Cultural issue and education
Education gives us knowledge of the world around us. Education is not only about what we learn in
our textbook as students but about the lessons we learn from those text books. It helps students
develop a perspective on how to look at life. Education is the basic foundation for every one. It is
instrumental in the development of our values and virtues. The future of our nation is safe in the hands
of educated individuals, which is why they say our children are our future . Education is attached to
everything that happens in this nation. In schools, students are taught languages, mathematics, science,
history and a number of other subjects. They get to participate in sports ... Show more content on

This puts them at a disadvantage, when compared to the students who go to some good private
schools. It s sad to have to put it that way but it s the truth. The socioeconomic status of the parent has
a lot to do with this. APA states Low SES and its correlates, such as lower education, poverty, and
poor health, ultimately affect our society as a whole, in particular, America s children. Children in the
United States face one of the highest rates of poverty within the industrialized world. If a parent
spends hours at work to make ends meet then that takes away from parent involvement in home
assignments. The parents also influence on the attitude the child brings to school and how important
school is to the student. The values of school start at home, if a parent doesn t believe that school is
important factor in an adult s life then that rubs off on the student, they carry that same attitude about
school.
Economic hardships manifest a number of challenges. From having a stable home, basic needs to
medical care, all these things create challenges for students and teachers as well. This goes to show
how easily students who come from poverty have a higher chance of not finishing school and facing
many obstacles while in school making it so much more difficult for them.
Since students have become much more

Corporate Responsibility And Corporate Social...
Stevan Jakovljevic Professor Laud MGT 3550 Values, Ethics and Sustainability 10/18/16 Chapter 3:
Define corporate responsibility (CSR). Describe the benefits. Why do some executives support CSR
while others find it troublesome and argue against it? Corporate social responsibility is what a
company uses to self regulate itself and refers to business practices involving initiatives that benefit
society. A business s CSR can encompass a wide variety of tactics, from giving away a portion of a
company s proceeds to charity and implementing greener business operations. Companies use
implement Corporate Social responsibilities for various reasons and this can be argued. Large
corporations have a more reasons for CSR to protect their image Corporate social benefits also have
many different benefits for the company. One of the primary reasons companies use CSR is to
preserve the environment. Many large corporations have had bad track records in the past when it
comes to pollution and a business no matter how large has a large carbon footprint. Even if the
smallest amount of effort is used in order to reduce the amount of damage they do to the environment
is good and that s why we see CSR being implemented. For a long stretch of time companies in the
United States of America have been destroying the earth slowly by cutting down forests, polluting
water ways and disposing of garbage in large amounts in the ocean. Now that these companies have
been under attack by the people and

Comparing The Work Of Two Artists
This essay compares and contrasts the work of two artists working in Australia since the 1960s on the
themes of migration, diaspora or cross cultural heritage. It discusses themes explored in their work and
what issues these artists face in presenting their work in Australia? The first work by Kathy Temin,
My Monument: Black Garden , 2010/11 whose background as a descendant of the Holocaust is
compared and contrasted to Imants Tillers, Diaspora Series, 1992 96, a series created partly in
response to political events in Latvia, 1990. The works address issues of diaspora and both artists
revisit the past, returning to the land of their heritage. A sense of belonging is one of the key issues
they face as Australian artists. Temin understands the importance of objects as a means of
remembering another culture, a sense of displacement and loss, whilst Tillers senses a connection with
his inherited culture and upbringing. Their work addresses the issues and will be discussed in more
detail.
Contemporary artist, Kathy Temin, visited the concentration camps in Europe, her family history
dating back to the holocaust. Her father, a survivor of the Holocaust, was the only family member to
survive the onslaught. The thing about concentration camps is that they leave you feeling
overwhelmed and very small, both psychologically and physically. That s what the spaces are set up to
do. My Monument: Black Garden, is enormous in scale and size really matters in relation to the

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
A hero is someone who is looked up to for their admirable qualities. Heroes come in all different
shapes and sizes and we all have them, whether they are police officers, firefighters, soldiers, or even
family members. When we were little, our idea of a hero was a bit different, we tended to look up to
fictional superheroes such as superman, batman, and the x men. We all loved to see them kick their
enemies butts episode after episode or page after page in a comic book. These individuals were great
inspirations to kids all around the world. But many of us forget, that not all heroes work alone, some
work as a group. The group of heroes that I always used to aspire to emulate was the Mighty Morphin

Marketing Audit Approach
Marketing Audit Approach IKEA
Marketing Audit Overview
What is a marketing audit? Quite simply, it is a detailed analysis of the elements that constitute or
influence a company s efforts to profitably market its products today and in future when both market
and products may undergo radical change ( John, Alexander, Theodore, 1969). The marketing audit
helps to understand the fundamentals of a company s marketing planning process. Auditing is not only
conducted not only at the planning stage and also conducted during various stages until the
implementation of the marketing plan.

Sterilizing Delicate And Heat-Chemical
1. Explain some of the problems involved in sterilizing delicate and heat sensitive instruments such as
endoscopes, catheters, etc. *
Although sterilizing instruments for procedures is an effective way to reduce the risk of
contamination, not all instruments are able to endure the level of heat with this process. Many
endoscopes, for example, are flexible to allow for the ease of movement in the body and are not made
of sturdy material, but delicate ones. The heat used in sterilization could potentially damage the
instrument creating a vehicle for bacteria to enter the body. Some delicate pieces could be destroyed
and manipulated and introduce bacteria during a procedure, jeopardizing the health of a person.
Catheters, especially indwelling ones, must be sterile to ensure the prevention of the introduction of
bacteria to a patient/person. Made of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Visibly soiled hands (bodily fluids, etc.) should and must be washed with soap and water to
substantially rid the hands of microbes. Studies found that hand sanitizers with an alcohol content of
60 95% can kill germs effectively (instead of hand washing) compared to those hand sanitizers that
contain less than a 60% alcohol concentration or those without alcohol. Growth of microbes or
bacteria present on the hands may be inhibited, but will not completely rid their presence. They may
still stay on the hands and not completely wash off, like that during the process of rinsing during hand
washing where water will rinse them off the hands and into the sink. Bacteria like Clostridium dificile
or E. coli are familiar organisms present in the healthcare settings and may not be effectively removed
by hand sanitizers (those with alcohol content) alone. They may still be found in the crevices of the
hand or ridges in between the fingers and can sometimes spread to the wrist area and forearm if not

Analysis of the Themes in Fight Club Essay
Analysis of the Themes in Fight Club
It is easy to understand how and why many who view Fight Club (Fincher, 1999) would argue that is
in essence a critique of post modern consumer culture within America or indeed the western world.
After all we are faced with Character(s) Jack (Edward Norton) who seems to gain no cultural
sustenance from the world in which he inhabits. More over it seems to do him harm in the form of
insomnia. This coupled with his obsession with Ikea and material goods leads to the creation of Tyler
(Brad Pit). Whose apparent goal is the destruction of the capitalist system? The film seems littered
with examples of anti consumer, anti capitalist motifs. The blowing up of ... Show more content on

One of the key issues which Giroux raises is that Fight Club tries to suggest consumerism has
destabilized masculinity in effect masculinity has been emasculated. However the film does not seem
to concern itself with any details regarding this process of consumerism in terms of economics or
practical application. In this respect it is very vague, using what could easily be described as sound
bites especially from Tyler to fill the gap where debate could be. Fight Club largely ignores issues
surrounding the break up of labour unions, the slashing of the U.S. workforce, extensive plant
closings, downsizing, outsourcing, the elimination of the welfare state, the attack on people of colour
and growing disparities between rich and poor. (Giroux, 2000:8). Fight Club seems content to portray
consumerism as an all encompassing continuum, which only those who are prepared to understand the
world through binary acts of violence and sabotage will be able to negate. This notion is problematic
in itself as it implies that everybody within the western world is blind to consumerism. But also the

Essay on The Comparison of Sigmund Freud and B.F. Skinner
The Comparison of Sigmund Freud and B.F. Skinner One name that jumps out at the mention of
psychology, or the study there of, is the name of Sigmund Freud. Sigmund Freud is also known as the
Father of Psychoanalysis. Freud was also known for having the tendency to trace nearly all
psychological problems back to sexual issues. Although only parts of his theory of psychosexual
development are still accepted by mainstream psychologists, Freud s theory of the Oedipal Complex
has become a cultural icon (Freud, Sigmund, 2012). Freud is known for developing the use of

Skinner is also known for major contributions to the field of psychology (About B.F. Skinner, Sept,

was most known for his work in behavior psychology. Behavioral psychology is the psychological
practice that focuses on learning new behaviors and how to modify our existing behavior and how that
takes place (About B.F. Skinner, Sept, 2012). One of his major contributions was his theory of operant
conditioning. Operant conditioning means roughly, the changing of behavior by the use of
reinforcement, either positive or negative, and which these reinforcements are given after the desired
response (About B.F. Skinner, Sept, 2012). Skinner identified three types of responses or operant that
can follow behavior. While behaviorism is no longer a dominant school of thought, the work in
operant conditioning remains today. Many different types of professionals utilize operant conditioning
in society today. Mental health professionals often utilize operant

The Underlying Causes Of Sexual Behavior
The underlying causes of out of control sexual behavior has led to contentious arguments, since the
underlying causes of the behavior determine how it should be treated. This literature review looks at
the possible causes of sexual dysfunction in the form of overactive sexual activities. Using internet
search terms including sexual addiction, sexual dependency, and hypersexuality, information was
gathered on historical and current viewpoints on the causes of such behavior to determine whether
overactive sexual activity should be classified as an addiction. Factors including psychological issues,
comorbidity issues, and social issues were examined. While there are limited studies that indicate that
the brain of those who participate in risky sexual behavior respond in much the same way as those
who experience drug addiction, there is strong evidence that these behaviors are brought about by
underlying causes such as child sexual abuse and psychological disorders such as bi polar disorder.
Careful examination of the patient s history should be conducted to determine if overactive sexual
activity is due to an underlying condition. Determining the underlying causes of out of control sexual
behavior is important in order to determine the best way to treat those suffering from its ill effects. In
the past, this type of behavior was known as nymphomania and satyriasis. Today, there are a multitude
of names for such behavior, including hypersexuality, sexual addiction, sexual

911 First Responders
This paper is for the people that seem to do great things for the community, but receive such little
recognition in return. 911 first responders (dispatchers, Firefighters, police officers, etc.) is the
epitome of a lifesaver . These people choose to risk their lives and give up time with their family to
save yours. Yet, believe it or not they receive little compensation for the work they do. Having
personal experience in the matter as my mother is a 911 dispatcher. Not only does the job take a toll
on these people financially, but also their physical and mental health are at risk. As we should make
sure that the people that selflessly care about our well being be taken care of. Most people are willing
to pay $200 for a concert ticket, but would gripe over paying that in medical bills. Hopefully, after
making this statement people will gain understanding and compassion for the modern day heroes.

The Impact Of Ancient Greek Theater And Tragedy

The Impact of Ancient Greek Theater and Tragedy Ancient Greek culture has influenced our modern
culture in many ways from philosophy to medicine to government. We still use many of their
concepts, technology, and even alphabet system. Without ancient Greece, our modern world would not
have advanced as far. A significant contribution of the ancient Greek culture to the world today is the
Greek theater, more specifically the structure of tragedy. Some contributions are the structure of
tragedy in modern literature, rise of opera, and the creation of the theater. Greek drama originally
started out as a ritual to honor the god of wine, Dionysus, by the cult of Dionysus. In the ritual, drunk
men dressed up in goat skin would sing and have dialogue in chorus to welcome the leader, the person
acting as Dionysus (Sayre 151). In these revel filled festivals, men dressed as satyrs, companions of
Dionysus who are half man and half goat, while the women dressed up as maenads, the immortal
followers of Dionysus. As the participants become drunk and filled with ecstasy, they transform into a
different identity from before. Later on this behavior became the satyr play, a form of Greek drama.
Tragedy is said to be originated from the Dionysian rites, where the name comes from tragoidos,
which means the goat song from the satyrs companions of Dionysus who are half man and half goat.
This could be in reference to the fact that Dionysus was also the

Organizational Culture And Leadership Of A Team
Every working individual adhere to vison or a cognitive norm of Organizational culture and holds
some positive or a negative opinion about their leader. The organizational culture and role of a leader
in a team go hand in hand to accomplish the goal of the organization and extract the potential of every
employee in that organization. Therefore, it is essential for an organization of any size to have a
positive organizational culture and select team leaders that can lead its employees. In a general sense
of a corporate organization, a team leader is the person to whom everyone in your team reports to and
takes guidelines on how to perform their job. The achievement of the goal of any organization
depends on the effectiveness of role that particular leader plays, how he manages his team and most
essentially how the leader influences their member to achieve the goals of the company. However, a
leader can come in any walk of life, be it in a NGO who is working towards preservation of
environment, elected official in political circle, or a quarterback who can choreograph the team to
victory. And a sign of great team leadership, is the role the leader plays by envisioning out of the box
solutions and influencing great results from his team. Time and again, research into the effectiveness
of role of leadership has proved that leaders are and essential factor in the dynamics of company and
play a critical role in the success and fortunes of any organization. Take the current

During the early twentieth century, a space never recognized before was discovered. Once this space

Sigmund Freud believed dreams to be the royal road to the unconscious and I ve come to agree with
this based on personal experience. Sigmund Freud saw the mind as an iceberg mostly submerged in
water. The tip of this iceberg represented the conscious part of the ego and a small portion of the super
ego. While everything below the water was, unconscious including the Id and the rest of the super
ego. Freud believed that within the frozen core of this solitary iceberg were wishes so disgusting,
horrifying and painful that they had to be repressed by the practical ego and pious superego for their
own safety. However, these wishes were important to the id, our most primal and instinctive part of
the psyche. These wishes while vile to the ego, are still necessary to be a whole person. However, the
iceberg only allowed these vile wishes to ascend when the pressure was lowed from the higher
functions. Freud saw that sleep as the moment of lowed pressure on the Id. This was due lowered ego
defenses during times of rest. However, these defenses functioned enough to disguise the wishes

Election In Nepal Essay
Recently, Nepal has completed two phases of local elections in six provinces covering 67 districts out

imparted important, some expected and some unexpected, lessons for Nepali politics.
First, people were eager to participate in the elections. The overall participation level reached 71
percent. It was only expected in view of the fact that local elections were not conducted for almost two
decades and local bodies were run by bureaucrats throughout that period.

Elaboration Likelihood Model Critique Essay
The Elaboration Likelihood Model has been hailed by some as unquestionably the most influential
recent theoretical development in persuasion research (O Keefe, 2002). Even if this is the case, it is by
no means a perfect theory. One of the most commonly cited criticisms of the elaboration likelihood
model is the vacuous nature of the argument strength component. Although this criticism is useful for
pointing out an area of the model that can be fine tuned, any perceived shortcomings due to the
argument strength concept can be mitigated through a creative application of other areas of the model.
One of the largest criticisms of the elaboration likelihood model (hereafter ELM) pertains to the nature

If the persuaded possesses high elaboration due to high topic relevance, a strong argument will
manipulate that variable. If the persuaded has a high need for cognition, this can be exploited to form
a strong argument, and so on. If it has been identified that the central route of persuasion on an
audience is necessary due to high relevance to the persuasive message, this gives the persuader a
framework to begin crafting a strong argument. Since relevance is what captures the audience s
attention, the persuader must exploit this. For example, if the persuader is attempting to sell a car to an
individual the the use of the central route, and the potential buyer has been categorized as one that
clearly understands the relevance of the purchase, the persuader should do his or her best to make their
product seem the most relevant to the customer. The seller may do this by asking the customer to
visualize how happy they will be in their new car. This can also be done by highlighting the features
of the car that are most applicable to the customer s concerns (safety, high gas mileage, etc). These
methods will invite the receiver to become more involved with the target of persuasion. All of these
ways utilize the customer s judgment of high relevance to the situation to construct a strong argument.
The need for cognition is

revolutionary social change. Generally, Yvonne Vera, the author, has been known for poetically
writing about strong female protagonists who experience traumatic events in their lifetimes. However,
Corwin L. Mhlahlo argues differently in Advocating a Nameable Desire. Mhlahlo believes that it is
not only Mazvita s negative experiences, which interest Vera, but also the female sexual pleasure
Mazvita feels and how it relates to the colonized black gendered subject s claim to a phallic privilege.
Corwin Mhlahlo s argument begins with fully understanding the Africa perspective on female sexual
desire. In these patriarchal societies, like Zimbabwe Rhodesia, female desire and sexual pleasure is
frowned upon, which led women and their needs discouraged, suppressed, and repressed (Mhlahlo

of their own relationship. Delighted to have found the narrator entranced with what she had seen. the
Marquis relishes in her naivety and finally takes her virginity. Leaving her feeling exposed he

It can be argued that the narrator is not accepted as a woman by the marquis in a virginal or non
virginal state and therefore is in a liminal state because he treats her as a child both before and after
the consummation of their marriage. Carter creates a dominant atmosphere through the use of minor
sentences: Not yet. Later. This causes an awkward tension when the Marqui teases her. The Marqui
gets a disturbing thrill from the power he holds over her. Carter wants to reinforce her views on
patriarchy suggesting that men see themselves as the dominant figure. Carter also explores an ominous
atmosphere through her use of intertextuality. All the better to see you reminds readers of the well
known fairytale Little Red Riding Hood. Carter changes the tone within these four pages as if the
unnamed narrator is talking to the readers. She asks questions like even on your honeymoon as if she
was addressing the readers; Carter uses this technique to personally engage readers with her story.
Also the pronoun your used by Carter changes her recollection of the story to second person. Carter
reminds us that this is her memory her experience, by the absence of speech marks when she is
recalling his words. In the middle of this extract, Carter uses irony to reinforce an ominous
atmosphere in the discovery the book The Secret of Pandora s Box. The discovery of this particular
book foreshadows her own situation and the fact that

Abstract
The researchers thought of trying to come up with a makeshift solar cooker in order to test if this way
of cooking may be effective and useful in substituting for a frying pan and a stove. The solar cooker
may be a possible alternative when cooking outdoors under the heat of the sun. It could also be a huge
energy saver and a safer way of cooking, avoiding hazards such as burns. The researchers have picked
the safest and easiest procedure and materials in making a solar cooker so that teenagers or even ...

Rationale * The researchers arrived at this kind of problem stumbling upon the topic of solar power
and how much heat the sun s rays can produce. * The researchers, as a group think that this is of big
significance since global warming is indeed a serious problem in the world, in line with this, usage of
energy is one of the factors that concerns this, and as students, investigating on this may be a way of
helping out. They also thought that this would be a fun and innovative experience especially since this
is not something you see or do every day. * PROBLEM: Can we cook food by using a mirror and
sunlight? * HYPOTHESIS: * H1: If heat is produced once the sun s rays are reflected through the
mirror to the food attempted to be cooked, then we can cook food using a mirror and sunlight. * H2: If
the heat coming from the sun is not enough as compared to the heat coming from the gas range or
electric stove, then we cannot cook food using only a mirror and sunlight. * OBJECTIVES OF THE
STUDY: * The researchers main objective is to be able to come up with a successful investigation and

English Architecture Style
For hundreds of years, architecture has been around. It brought culture to many countries and people.
Architecture from the Renaissance brought many styles and techniques that still exist today. The
layout of a house, could have even saved lives! The Renaissance set many standards for architecture,
making it a sign for for power and wealth.
English Architecture was influenced from many other countries. The trend of architecture started in
Italy and traveled to other countries. It had been Julius II s aim, and that of his successors Leo X and
Clement VII, to remake the city into an imposing showpiece that celebrated Rome as the very center
of the Christian world. Soon many artists from Italy left, going to other countries such as France and
England, and brought their artistic style. Rome set the scale for what architecture should be anywhere
( Overview of Architecture and Design ).
England took inspiration from Italian architecture and put their own twist on it, making it a more
gothic style. The gothic style of architecture became popular and became the new standard. Gothic
architecture embraced a highly ornate and decorative style, with highly elaborate piers and vaulted
ceilings being among its most distinctive elements. Also there were more churches, bigger and better
every time due to the growing competition in the Catholic and Protestant religions. ( Overview of

Collective Bargaining During The Great Depression
After researching information about collective bargaining, I found several cases of employees
exercising the rights they are entitled to. One of these rights I found was the right of employees to
form a union. The act of collective bargaining, be it a labor union, strike, picket, etc., came to a height
during the Great Depression.
The Great Depression was a significant time in the United States for many reasons. It spurred the
formation of labor unions, strikes against banks, and just an overall demand for greater working
conditions and employee welfare. With the revolt against banks happening as a result of the crash, a
union was formed in 1937 known as the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU).
The CTU was powerful in establishing bargaining rights,

French media coverage of the headscarf controversy perpetuates considerable misunderstanding of
Islam and thus the politics of secularism extend to media framing of the tension between religious

Similarities Between Anna Karenina And Out Of Africa
Anna Karenina and Out of Africa are two films that can be compared to a roller coaster ride at a
carnival. A roller coaster ride excites and thrills us but at the very same time we feel anxiety and fear.
The roller coaster rises, falls, twists and turns. This defines the journey of the characters as they
embark upon their travels which are filled with peaks of joy and valleys of heartache, sorrow and
death. The characters are vulnerable and impressionable as they face the dangers of adultery, self
discovery and feministic resistance. Perceptions, assumptions, fantasy and opinions are formed by the
characters as they embark on their roller coaster ride. This adds to the intrigue and suspense on their
epic journey to uncover their inner truths.
The world is a stage as the aristocratic lives of the characters is showcased in the stylised film Anna

Psychopathy
Psychopathy, a personality/mental disorder, in which an individual often display apathy in conjunction
with manipulation strategies, and without the ability to demonstrate remorse for wrong actions, is a

Doppel Daenger Gothic
Doppel Daenger and Female Gothic in The Black Cat
Doppel daenger the perilous thought that has been perpetually occupying the minds of many scholars
originates from the German language. By definition, this phrase translates to the existence of one s
double the concept of someone else independently existing with an equal identity to another individual
he/she closely resembles. The idea of shared identity prevails in the genre of Gothic Literature,
especially as a counter part of the female Gothic and predominantly in the great American all time
author, Edgar Allan Poe s literary works. By the same token, the category of the Gothic genre called
female Gothic entails both female authorship and emphasis on psychological depth. ... Show more

One would ponder upon the narrator s consciousness that his misery would create an ability to find joy
in having the sweet creature around again. Surprisingly, the author grows disgusted and annoyed by
the cat s presence again, which gradually rises into bitterness of hatred and he looks upon the cat with
unutterable loathing (325). The cat s excessive pertinacity of overly affectionate personality towards
its master grows a repulsive reflex into the narrator such that he perceives the cat s loathsome caress,
its odious presence like a breath of pestilence rather than its loving personality and loyalty (325). Evil
thoughts bec[o]me my[his] soul intimates the darkest and most evil of thoughts, which lead him to

Written mostly by female authors, female Gothic focuses on the psychological terror and emotions, as
its major constituents thus creating an intricate set for sophisticated psychoanalysis. As an emblem of
the female Gothic, this emotional and psychological intrusion sets the contours of the female Gothic
plot. Combining the perplexing double and the female Gothic, the plot proceeds to intertwine into a
peculiar triangular relationship among Pluto the original black cat, Pluto s alternate self, and the
narrator s wife. Female Gothic encompasses subtle women nature,

Essay on Writing Techniques in Poe s The Raven
Writing Techniques in Poe s The Raven
Edgar Allan Poe uses several writing techniques to create a single concentrated effect of unending
despair in his classic poem, The Raven. The most noticeable technique is the use of repetition. Just as
repeated exposure to cold raindrops can chill one to the bone, repeated exposure to words of
hopelessness and gloom creates a chilling effect. Poe saturates the reader with desperate futility by
repetitive use of the words nothing more and nevermore. These two phrases, used in refrain to end
seventeen of the poem s eighteen stanzas, drench the reader with melancholy. Poe also uses repetition
to spark the reader s curiosity. He refers to the sound of rapping or tapping eight times in the ... Show

This rare radiance stands in stark contrast to the grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt, and ominous raven
who now never leaves his chamber (71). Lenore is referred to as a sainted maiden (94), whereas the
raven is referred to as a prophet! and a thing of evil! (85, 91). The radiance of Lenore is contrasted
with the speaker s soul, which he describes as being under a shadow (107). These contrasts serve to
draw attention to the most significant contrast described in the poem: an intelligent, well read, loving
man interprets a bird seeking shelter on a cold night as an emblem of never ending anguish and
succumbs to depression and madness.
Poe masterfully chooses his words to create an effect. He introduces the idea that the tapping is caused
by something at his window lattice (33) followed by Let me see, then, what thereat is (34). His choice
of the word thereat is interesting in that it suggests the word threat . The sharp t sound at the end of
thereat conjures the sound of pecking on glass. The experience of hearing what the speaker hears
serves to increase the bond the reader feels with the speaker.
Poe s masterful alliteration likewise creates mood as exhibited in the phrase, And the silken sad
uncertain (13). These words are not commonly used together. The repetitive s sound forces the reader
to hesitate when reading the line, leading the reader to identify with the uncertainty that the speaker is
experiencing. In a similar way, the

I chose to study and analyze J.M.W. Turner s Slave Ship for this project and found it to be very
interesting. Immediately while looking at the piece you get a strong sense of emotion and drama that
is being portrayed. There is a lot of depth and warmth in the colors that are used and wide swift brush
strokes to create the images. The first image that caught my eye was of waves crashing on the left side
of the painting. The white tips of the waves are very noticeable against the softer shades of the ocean.
Behind the waves is a ship which is the next part of the painting that drew my attention. The ship
seems to be caught in the rough waves of the sea and barely able to keep afloat. There is a glimmer of

Turner it is a lot clearer as to why he depicted such an emotional and vivid work of art in Slave Ship.
Turner was inspired to paint this piece after reading The History and Abolition of the Slave Trade by
Thomas Clarkson. In 1781, the captain of the slave ship Zong had ordered 133 slaves to be thrown
overboard so that insurance payments could be collected. This event probably inspired Turner to
create this artwork. Turner became an advocate for abolishing slavery around the world and even
exhibited this painting during an anti slavery conference (History in an Hour).
Common themes that were seen in the Romantic era, which spanned from the end of the eighteenth
century to the beginning of the nineteenth century, were naturalism, Gothicism, emotionalism, and
exoticism. Salve Ship definitely portrays some, if not all, of these themes. The most obvious used
theme would be emotion. Turner is clearly trying to get an emotional response out of his audience
with such a dark and dramatic subject matter in this piece or art. It would be very hard not to have
high emotions when looking at it. Work of art from the Romantic time period shares many similarities
with work that is seen in the modern world and today s audience can relate greatly to art from that
time. There is a strong sense of emotion and erotic response in art in the modern age and people react
strongly to that. Art from romanticism brings out the same emotion and response.

reasons, one reason including that he was very trustworthy not only to God but to his people. He
fought long and hard to obey God and teach the people of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To see the relationship he had with God inspires many to find that same relationship with God in
today s society. The story of Moses is still important and looked upon today because of how much
hope, love, and even justice it demonstrated. Moses and God worked solely together and with that
there was hope, which helped them never give up especially when they tried to free the Israelites from
Pharaoh. After reading about Moses and Deuteronomy in many ways it brought back my faith. It
showed me how important it is to keep my faith and do not lose hope despite all the challenges we
face and it seems easier to just give up. I know that with my faith I can get through it all, I look at
what Moses had to endure and it is nothing compared to what I have faced or gone through. In regards
to the Ten Commandments, we still value them in our lives today. We may not value them the way
they did back in Moses time, but for me I look at them in a way that helps me make certain decisions
in life. In today s society we have used the story of Exodus for many reasons throughout history; it is a
story of freedom as the story of Moses show how difficult to gain back their freedom. We have learned

story to help us through certain aspect our

Americans are also behind the rest of the world in fuel efficiency as the following chart shows new car

  • 2. Use Of Measure Disability And Level Of An Individual s Health Currently, two other instruments are utilized to measure disability and level of functioning. The two instruments are: 1.) The RAND 36 Item Short Form Survey (SF 36) and 2.) the Functional Independence Measure (FIM) (Üstün et al., 2010b). Both of these measures are often compared to the WHODAS 2.0. However, they both vary slightly from the WHODAS 2.0. The SF 36 is a generic quality of life measurement that assesses an individual s health status (Ware, 2000). This measureme relies specifically on an individual s self reported perceptions related to the following eight domains: physical functioning, bodily pain, role limitations due to physical health problems, role limitations due to personal or emotional problems, emotional well being, social functioning, energy/fatigue, and general health (Ware, 2000). The SF 36 is heavily utilized by managed care organizations and Medicare when monitoring and assessing progress in adult individuals (Ware, 2000). In regards to scoring the SF 36, this is a two step process in which scores have to be recoded and then averaged together to create scale scores for each domain (Ware, 2000). Research on the SF 36 has concluded that it is relatively easy to score, as long as clinicians follow the two step scoring process (Ware, 2000). It is also important to note that the SF 36 is in the public domain, available in multiple languages, and has good reliability and validity (Ware, 2000). However, one of the major limitations ... This puts them at a disadvantage, when compared to the students who go to some good private schools. It s sad to have to put it that way but it s the truth. The socioeconomic status of the parent has a lot to do with this. APA states Low SES and its correlates, such as lower education, poverty, and poor health, ultimately affect our society as a whole, in particular, America s children. Children in the United States face one of the highest rates of poverty within the industrialized world. If a parent spends hours at work to make ends meet then that takes away from parent involvement in home assignments. The parents also influence on the attitude the child brings to school and how important school is to the student. The values of school start at home, if a parent doesn t believe that school is important factor in an adult s life then that rubs off on the student, they carry that same attitude about school. Economic hardships manifest a number of challenges. From having a stable home, basic needs to medical care, all these things create challenges for students and teachers as well. This goes to show how easily students who come from poverty have a higher chance of not finishing school and facing many obstacles while in school making it so much more difficult for them. • 5. Comparing The Work Of Two Artists This essay compares and contrasts the work of two artists working in Australia since the 1960s on the themes of migration, diaspora or cross cultural heritage. It discusses themes explored in their work and what issues these artists face in presenting their work in Australia? The first work by Kathy Temin, My Monument: Black Garden , 2010/11 whose background as a descendant of the Holocaust is compared and contrasted to Imants Tillers, Diaspora Series, 1992 96, a series created partly in response to political events in Latvia, 1990. The works address issues of diaspora and both artists revisit the past, returning to the land of their heritage. A sense of belonging is one of the key issues they face as Australian artists. Temin understands the importance of objects as a means of remembering another culture, a sense of displacement and loss, whilst Tillers senses a connection with his inherited culture and upbringing. Their work addresses the issues and will be discussed in more detail. Contemporary artist, Kathy Temin, visited the concentration camps in Europe, her family history dating back to the holocaust. Her father, a survivor of the Holocaust, was the only family member to survive the onslaught. The thing about concentration camps is that they leave you feeling overwhelmed and very small, both psychologically and physically. That s what the spaces are set up to do. Explain some of the problems involved in sterilizing delicate and heat sensitive instruments such as endoscopes, catheters, etc. * Although sterilizing instruments for procedures is an effective way to reduce the risk of contamination, not all instruments are able to endure the level of heat with this process. Many endoscopes, for example, are flexible to allow for the ease of movement in the body and are not made of sturdy material, but delicate ones. The heat used in sterilization could potentially damage the instrument creating a vehicle for bacteria to enter the body. Fight Club seems content to portray consumerism as an all encompassing continuum, which only those who are prepared to understand the world through binary acts of violence and sabotage will be able to negate. A significant contribution of the ancient Greek culture to the world today is the Greek theater, more specifically the structure of tragedy. Some contributions are the structure of tragedy in modern literature, rise of opera, and the creation of the theater. Greek drama originally started out as a ritual to honor the god of wine, Dionysus, by the cult of Dionysus. Without a Name, a novel written by Yvonne Vera, explores the journey of a young Zimbabwean woman, Mazvita, during the late 1970 s guerilla war. In 1963, the two political parties in Zimbabwe were banned, which led to guerilla warfare in 1966. This ultimately led to emigration out of Rhodesia. In the novel, Mazvita traveled from her hometown of Mubaira, to the city of Harare. In her hometown, she faced rebel forces, which sexually abused her along with destroyed her village. One of these rights I found was the right of employees to form a union. The act of collective bargaining, be it a labor union, strike, picket, etc., came to a height during the Great Depression. The Great Depression was a significant time in the United States for many reasons. It spurred the formation of labor unions, strikes against banks, and just an overall demand for greater working conditions and employee welfare. Doppel Daenger Gothic Doppel Daenger and Female Gothic in The Black Cat Doppel daenger the perilous thought that has been perpetually occupying the minds of many scholars originates from the German language. By definition, this phrase translates to the existence of one s double the concept of someone else independently existing with an equal identity to another individual he/she closely resembles. The idea of shared identity prevails in the genre of Gothic Literature, especially as a counter part of the female Gothic and predominantly in the great American all time author, Edgar Allan Poe s literary works. Surprisingly, the author grows disgusted and annoyed by the cat s presence again, which gradually rises into bitterness of hatred and he looks upon the cat with unutterable loathing (325). The cat s excessive pertinacity of overly affectionate personality towards its master grows a repulsive reflex into the narrator such that he perceives the cat s loathsome caress, its odious presence like a breath of pestilence rather than its loving personality and loyalty (325). Evil thoughts bec[o]me my[his] soul intimates the darkest and most evil of thoughts, which lead him to commit a brutal murder towards his own wife thus representing the destructive revelation of the plot (i.e., self destruction in this particular story) (326). • 37. Essay on Writing Techniques in Poe s The Raven Writing Techniques in Poe s The Raven Edgar Allan Poe uses several writing techniques to create a single concentrated effect of unending despair in his classic poem, The Raven. The most noticeable technique is the use of repetition. Just as repeated exposure to cold raindrops can chill one to the bone, repeated exposure to words of hopelessness and gloom creates a chilling effect. Poe saturates the reader with desperate futility by repetitive use of the words nothing more and nevermore. These two phrases, used in refrain to end seventeen of the poem s eighteen stanzas, drench the reader with melancholy. Poe also uses repetition to spark the reader s curiosity. He refers to the sound of rapping or tapping eight times in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This rare radiance stands in stark contrast to the grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt, and ominous raven who now never leaves his chamber (71). Lenore is referred to as a sainted maiden (94), whereas the raven is referred to as a prophet! and a thing of evil! (85, 91). The radiance of Lenore is contrasted with the speaker s soul, which he describes as being under a shadow (107). These contrasts serve to draw attention to the most significant contrast described in the poem: an intelligent, well read, loving man interprets a bird seeking shelter on a cold night as an emblem of never ending anguish and succumbs to depression and madness. Poe masterfully chooses his words to create an effect. He introduces the idea that the tapping is caused by something at his window lattice (33) followed by Let me see, then, what thereat is (34). His choice of the word thereat is interesting in that it suggests the word threat . The sharp t sound at the end of thereat conjures the sound of pecking on glass. The experience of hearing what the speaker hears serves to increase the bond the reader feels with the speaker. Poe s masterful alliteration likewise creates mood as exhibited in the phrase, And the silken sad uncertain (13). These words are not commonly used together. The repetitive s sound forces the reader to hesitate when reading the line, leading the reader to identify with the uncertainty that the speaker is experiencing. In a similar way, the ... Turner it is a lot clearer as to why he depicted such an emotional and vivid work of art in Slave Ship. Turner was inspired to paint this piece after reading The History and Abolition of the Slave Trade by Thomas Clarkson. In 1781, the captain of the slave ship Zong had ordered 133 slaves to be thrown overboard so that insurance payments could be collected. This event probably inspired Turner to create this artwork. Turner became an advocate for abolishing slavery around the world and even exhibited this painting during an anti slavery conference (History in an Hour). Common themes that were seen in the Romantic era, which spanned from the end of the eighteenth century to the beginning of the nineteenth century, were naturalism, Gothicism, emotionalism, and exoticism. Salve Ship definitely portrays some, if not all, of these themes. The most obvious used theme would be emotion. Turner is clearly trying to get an emotional response out of his audience with such a dark and dramatic subject matter in this piece or art. It would be very hard not to have high emotions when looking at it. Work of art from the Romantic time period shares many similarities with work that is seen in the modern world and today s audience can relate greatly to art from that time. There is a strong sense of emotion and erotic response in art in the modern age and people react strongly to that. Art from romanticism brings out the same emotion and response. ...
