The Learning Objective Of The Lesson Comparing Fractions
Activity 1: Comparing Fractions (October 12, 2016) The learning objective of the lesson Comparing
Fractions was to demonstrate to students that fractions are everywhere we go and the importance of
being able to identify fractions with greater or less value when comparing fractions.
Engage
During this activity students were very engaged, they created their own figures using the pattern
blocks. Below there are some of the examples of the figures that students come up with (see fig.1 2).
After creating these figures, they realized that they could have use tringles to make their figures
instead of the different shapes. So, I ask them Could you show me how this could work? Some
students started to make the same figures but this time only using tringles. However, I noticed that
David, one of the students was not doing the same as his classmates. Instead, he was writing a key, he
wrote how many triangles were in a Hexagon, a rhombus, and in a trapezoid. Then he said I think that
I need 21 triangles. I thought that was very impressive for him to completely do something different
than his classmates. Then, I saw the opportunity to allow him to continue with the lesson while the
others were still figuring out how many triangles were needed to create the same figure. After
everyone was done with counting how many triangles were needed for their figures, I asked them to
create fractions to represent the different shapes in their figures. In order for students to see from an

Disparities in Prison Populations Essay
DISPARITIES IN PRISON POPULATIONS Although we would like to believe the world is not as
racially charged in 2013 as it was in the 1960s, a look in our penal system would show that minorities
are still arrested and incarcerated at a higher rate than whites. The United States has experienced a rise
in its prison population over the last 40 years and our incarceration rate is nearly 5 times higher than
any other country. Even though 13% of the US population are African American males, they make up
38% of the prison population. Contributing factors to these numbers are mandatory minimum
sentences, high crime and poverty areas, and lack of rehabilitative resources within our system (p.77
78). In the 1980s, the United States started a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Minorities in these urban areas have a hard time finding employment that could support their family
efficiently. Most end up dropping out of school and join or are forced to join gangs. They are more
likely to turn to crime as a means of survival which increases their chances of building a criminal
history. This type of criminal activity also ties back into the Three Strikes Law (Nicosia, MacDonald,
Arkes. 2013) which states that the offender will be incarcerated on their third offense, no matter how
minor the charge. The lack of rehabilitative resources in the criminal justice system leads to repeat
offenders also. Although it should not be the responsibility of those in society who are doing the right
thing to pay for services for those who are incarcerated, we are doing ourselves an injustice if we don
t. If we are not providing rehabilitative classes, vocational/job training, or some type of counseling
while prisoners are incarcerated, we are defeating the purpose of locking them up. Criminal justice
referrals account for almost 37% of drug treatment admissions (Nicosia, MacDonald, Arkes. 2013. p.
78). If we don t address the issues that got them incarcerated in the first place, they will turn back to
the only life they know that provided fast money. I

Greed Vs. Humanity In The Backdraft Of Technology
Greed vs. Humanity In the story The Backdraft of Technology Stephanie Alaimo and Mark Koester
indicated the many disadvantages of technology in our society. Although there are many advantages
with advance technology; Alaimo and Koester still warn the readers about the negative cause and
effects of technology in the present time and the future. They claim that technology have eliminate
most of a lower class jobs. Their suggestion was to Say No! to self checkout.
(reason) With Technology being a huge role in the business world we are bound to encounter them in
restaurant, stores, and factory. People are demanding faster and better service and those are the quality
that technology can provide. Because human services are more expensive than a machine,
corporations are more likely to put machine rather than human in their business for their survival. Yes,

The Narrator s Imaginations In Nighthawks
Often in life, people are faced with difficult times; this is part of being human. People cope with these
times in different ways some rely on a sense of humour, others on the support of friends, still others
use their imagination to take them out of their problems and give them the inner strength they need to
face difficult situations. This is the case with the narrator in Nighthawks who uses his imagination to
escape from unemployment into the world of art. This is also the case in my own experience when I
used my imagination to escape from the hardship of a boring, repetitive summer job.
In the excerpt from Nighthawks , the narrator is facing the difficult situation of being out of a job. He
obviously has few resources at home to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I was employed in a grocery store for one unforgettable summer. Everything about the store was
depressing; it was a small corner grocery in the village I grew up in, and the owner did not believe in
marketing why should he spend money on attracting people to the store? It was the only one in town
there was no other choice. The interior of the store was dark enough, but the storeroom in the back
where I had to spend most of my summer days was like endless night it was lit only by a tiny light
bulb and was so packed with goods there was no room to sit down, not that I was allowed that luxury
very often. Here was where I was forced to spend my working hours, but if my body was there, my
mind and spirit were not. I used to spend hours unpacking cans and boxes and putting prices on them
by hand. While doing this, I would read the labels and fantasize about visiting the places where all the
products came from. I would be on a beach in Hawaii with pineapples growing nearby, a rice field in
Thailand watching the green shoots grow, or sitting on a cool porch in India sipping tea grown on my
own land. It seems absurd now, but my imagination was viviv then, and everything seemed possible. It
certainly helped transport me away from my little retail prison, so that the days passed quickly, and I

Reflection Of Self Reflection
As I finish my first semester of college in Chico, I now realize how much I have changed over the past
three to four months. Coming here was a huge adjustment, but the town, people, and classes I have
taken are amazing. The classes I took this semester, especially the U Course, had a very big impact on
who I am as a person since I got to college. The class required me to reflect upon myself, making me
realize how much I was changing throughout the course. I can now interpret how much I have learned
about one s self identity, sustainability, and the four general education student learning outcomes.
Throughout the U course, I was forced to ask myself who am i? and to reflect upon it in my writing. I
was never certain on how to answer this question; it s tough and broad. As of now, if asked this
question I would identify myself as a female who is open to anything life has to offer, is funny and
social, but is an introvert as well. I believe, The way you understand the world now has changed from
the way you understood the world as a child, and along with your changing perspective, your physical
body, including your motor coordination and your physical abilities, have altered (Thia Wolf 2012). As
a child, I was very closed minded, it was my way or no way. Now that i m older I see that i m open to
more things due to my experiences throughout life; this is why I believe in the social/relational
approaches to understanding the formation of identity. These theories suggest that we form our
identity from past experiences with others. In my opinion, these theories are the most precise because
one needs to experience with others to help identify themselves. Shared experiences inform yourself
that you are similar or not to the others; this helps to understand one s self identity. The most change I
have seen throughout the semester is in my Eco Identity. These past couple of months, I have gained a
great amount of knowledge on the topic of sustainability causing my eco identity to change drastically.
Before college, I wasn t well educated or aware on the effects on the earth we live on when living a
unsustainable life. I would never try reducing my use of plastic, water, or paper. Now I find myself
using reusable

Zombies And The Horror Genre
In modern times, zombies saturate popular culture and have become a mainstay in the cinematic
world. Many people view zombies as a purely fictional creation with little purpose beyond merely
providing entertainment for the duration of the movie. However, this view of zombies misses their
true original purpose, a purpose which they still serve today. Zombies were not created as arbitrary
fictional characters, but rather as monsters with meaning (Blumberg). Zombies serve as an outlet for
people to process their biggest fears in the world around them. Zombies and the horror genre have
become a modern cinematic expression of people s deepest fears, fears that evolve over time as people
change. The general concept of zombies as we know them today originated in the 1910s with the
silent French film J accuse. This film helped to show the horrors of the war and the pain inflicted upon
the French people. To the modern viewer however, the view of zombies in this film would appear to
be strange and very different monsters from what they are used to seeing. In fact, many people would
not consider it a zombie movie at all, but rather a movie that had many elements that later would
contribute to the development of zombies. The zombies in the film are seemingly real people and
reflect the horrors that the French faced during the war. While this idea of zombies does not remain,
the concept that zombies reflect people s biggest fears remain. While the zombies in J accuse were one

Causes Of The Korean War
Intro
The Korean war left 2.5 million people dead more than half of which civilians, nearly 10% of Korea s
total population. With the war officially starting in June of 1950 it took almost three years of North
and South Korea battling until the armistice was signed in July of 1953. The ongoing cold war
between America and Russia can be linked to as to why the Korean conflict was originally initiated.
Still to this day the border between North and South Korea is a heated zone, there is little to no hope
of a united Korea anytime soon.
Short term cause
American troops began to leave South Korea around mid 1949 with Dean Acheson Releasing a speech
in January 1950 stating that the US would no longer commit their forces to mainland Asia. Acheson
saying that their defensive perimeter ran through Japan and the Ryukyu but not the Republic of Korea
or the Republic of China, The defensive perimeter runs along the Aleutians to Japan and then goes to
the Ryukyus. We hold important defence positions in the Ryukyu Islands, and those we will continue
to hold . The recent withdrawal of American troops from South Korea gave Kim Il Sung an
opportunity to make a push towards South Korea Although; he could not do this alone, he would need
the help of Stalin. After constant persuasion from Kim, Stalin agreed to support Kim with his attack on
South Korea, The recent development of Stalin s first atomic bomb in 1949 may have given him
confidence about the invasion.

My Catholic Experience Paper
Well I grew up in a Catholic family with a grandmother who was very spiritual, and even had her own
room with hundreds of saints, and she would pray to them for different requests. I never really
understood church or many of the Bible stories. The church services were so discipline to me, and felt
like a punishment because of the standing and kneeling all through out the service. I moved away with
my mother and siblings and we ended up staying at this homeless shelter that was ran by a non
denominational church, so part of our agreement to stay was to attend this church. I found this church
to be open to anyone and everyone, and during our time their I got baptized. I enjoyed this church.

The only way this could happen was through Jesus sacrifice, which replaced the animal sacrifices that
were required. The Old Testament being the original text for God s people, but they continued to turn
their back on God, so God provided himself as Jesus and the New Testament as a guideline for all
believers to live by. Many other questions about my experience with Catholisum for example, praying

opinion that praying to saints goes against what the Bible states, which is that the only way to God is

place her in the same category as Jesus. I also don t agree with how people are voted into sainthood by
other humans, because humans are all sinners, so if humans vote in saints, then these saints will be

The Nature Of Love In Shakespeare s Sonnet 130 By William...
William Shakespeare is recognized for being one of greatest poets of all time. His works are still
popular to this day. Many of his works included extended metaphors and similes with rhetorical
language and were rooted in the nature of love. Two of his poems that are rather alike, but also very
contrastive are Shall I compare thee to a summer s day? and My mistresses eyes are nothing like the
sun. They both contain a core theme of love or anti love in some aspects. While these two poems are
built around the same type of subject, their interpretations come across in separate ways. In contrast to
Shakespeare s Sonnet 18 which is a serious love poem that contains imagery and metaphors,
Shakespeare s Sonnet 130 is more negative and humorous but contains imagery and similes. Overall,
both of these poems fulfill the same motive. They were written to praise women, but the two use
different methods for doing so. In Sonnet 18 , Shakespeare compares his lover with the negative
aspects of summer stating /Thou art more lovely and more temperate/ (2). On the other hand in Sonnet
130 , Shakespeare compares his mistress to the good qualities of acquisitive things to show how even
though she is not perfect, she is still important to him. He vows by heaven (13) that the feelings he has
for his mistress are as rare /As any she belied with false compare/ (14). The messages delivered by the
two poems are very unique. In Sonnet 18 , the woman being described is perfect and does

Persuasive Essay On Conversion Therapy
Conversion therapy, also known as reparative therapy, or Sexual Orientation Change Efforts (SOCE)
has a troubled history within the United States and abroad. Conversion therapy is the use of a variety
of means to attempt to change an individual s sexual or gender orientation. Current practices include
inducing vomiting or paralysis while showing a subject homoerotic images, having a subject snap a
rubber band on their wrist whenever they have certain thoughts, or using tactics to create shame or
aversion to same sex or transgender thoughts. Many established institutes claim that the therapy does
or doesn t work and offer contradicting evidence for their position. The Movement Advancement
Project, a group dedicated to providing research for the advancement of LGBT people, states in an
infographic that nine states, plus the District of Columbia and a handful of municipalities have banned
conversion therapy from being provided by licensed medical professionals to minors ( Kids 1). Based
on the established evidence and the overwhelming number of psychologists and sociologist that
disavow conversion therapy, along with the multitude of horror stories from children who were
persuaded, or forced, to participate by their parents, the federal government should ban conversion
therapy for all minors.
Despite the largely negative responses, many organizations support conversion therapy. Many
practitioners such as the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality

Quest For Camelot Analysis
In 1998, the film Quest for Camelot was released. It is an enjoyable children s movie, and the plot is
as follows: when her father dies, Kayley (voiced by Jessalyn Gilsig) is determined to become a knight
of the Round Table. Finally she thinks she has the chance, when she hears that the sword, Excalibur,
has been stolen from king Arthur. Kayley goes on an adventure to find Excalibur, and return the sword
to Camelot. On her way she travels through the Forbidden Forest, and finds a blind hermit named
Garrett (voiced by Cary Elwes). Garrett helps Kayley on her quest to find the sword. Through many
obstacles, they meet a two headed dragon; Devon (voiced by Eric Idle), and Cornwall (voiced by Don
Rickles). The four find excalibur, make it out of the Forbidden Forest, and eventually bring the ...

The songs from the movie tie all the scenes together, and help explain the feelings of the characters.
When Kayley sings, On my Father s Wings , it shows the love she has for her father, and how she
wants to make him proud. Further into the movie we hear a song from Garrett. The song he sings, I
Stand Alone , emphasizes how he can take care of himself, and that he doesn t need anybody else.
Devon, and Cornwall sing the song If I Didn t Have You , which shows that they would rather not be
their own person and not be stuck at the hip all the time. This song also adds to the comic of the
movie, it shows the humor of the two of them. Overall the music in this movie helps explain the
characters in the film, and makes it very entertaining to watch. Even though Quest for Camelot is not
seen as the greatest movie of all time, I think that it is an enjoyable movie. The catchy soundtrack,
developing characters, and the life lessons that are taught all support the reason to think of this movie
as one to watch. I would recommend this movie to anyone who wants a bit of a laugh, and just be

David Miescher Essay
Deoxyribonucleic acid or its more common name DNA is the hereditary material that makes up all
humans and living organisms. DNA is an incredibly complex molecule that acts as an instruction book
for cells. This molecule was discovered in the late 1800 s by a Swiss biochemist named Friedrich
Miescher. Miescher isolated analyzed and recognized DNA as a unique macromolecule. Johannas
Friedrich Miescher was born in 1844 to a distinguished scientific family. In college, Miescher studied
medicine but after his graduation in 1868, he decided to pursue physiological chemistry. This was due
to a hearing impairment caused by a severe attack of typhoid fever. In 1869, he stayed at the
laboratory of Felix Hoppe Seyler. By combining his knowledge of medicine and organic chemistry he
isolated and chemically characterized DNA. At the time of this discovery, many believed that cells
were largely made of proteins. Miescher contradicted this opinion by noting that the presence of
something that cannot belong among any of the protein substances known hitherto . He showed that
this substance was derived from the nucleus of the cell alone and, therefore, named it nuclein . He then
went on to prove that nuclein was present in many cells and contained phosphorous carbon, nitrogen,
and oxygen. These findings were so revolutionary that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Animals Have Been Used For Animal Therapy From Early As
Animals have been used for animal therapy from early as the 18th century (Chu et al., 2009). Animals
have been shown to aid in lowering stress, feelings of isolation and depression. Studies have shown
that different types of animal therapy can be helpful with a range of mental illnesses, from
schizophrenia to anxiety to dementia. There are many ways that animals can be implemented into
different forms of therapy. There are uses for animals in psychological and physical therapy. Each of
these present paths to help different types of mental illnesses in separate ways. For my research, I

animal therapy. These questions, Which animal would you choose to have as a therapy animal? , and
What animals have you seen used as therapy animals? , are able to gauge the knowledge of therapy

Though there are positive aspects of the adversarial system, scholars argue that as it is practiced today,
the system is deeply flawed and does not promote truth finding. According to Keith Findley (2012),
Clinical Professor at the University of Wisconsin Law School, and Co Director of the Wisconsin
Innocence Project, the criminal court system as of today seeks justice but does not seek the truth.
Findley asserts that the adversarial system disproportionally benefits the prosecution over the defense
(2012). This is due to the fact that though the prosecution and defense are supposed to be equal, they
are not. It is a fact that prosecutors are funded by the state and are able to gain access to evidence and
resources unlike criminal defense attorneys. In high profile cases it is known that the Prosecutor s
Office appoint their most skilled attorney to the case while it is known that indigent defendants aren t
able to afford highly experienced attorneys. As a result, the truth is not uncovered or the goal. Along
with this, in the case involving normal proceedings indigent defendants are often given public
defenders as legal representation. According to Ray Finkelstein (2011), a former Judge, the Public
Defenders Association is heavily burned with cases and they do not have the same resource and funds
as the Prosecutors Office. Therefore, public defenders are often over worked and have a high volume
of clients that they have to represent with little resources to assist in the

Acid Rain
Acidification of the surface of the water is a major problem in areas of the northeastern United States,
in eastern Canada, and in southern Scandinavia, it also occurs in other parts of the world as well
(Baker Schofield, 1982). The acidification on the surface of water causes many fish populations to
decline in soft water aquatic environments, that are exposed to acid precipitation (Neville Campell,
1988). This acidification of the surface water is caused by acid rain. Acid rain or otherwise known as
acid deposition is a term that includes any form of precipitation with acidic components, such as
sulfuric or nitric acid that comes down from the atmosphere in wet or dry forms. These forms include
rain, snow, fog, hail or even dust that can be acidic. Acid rain is caused by when sulfur dioxide (SO2)
and nitrogen oxides (NOx) are put into the atmosphere and then transported by wind and air currents.
Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides react with water, oxygen and other chemicals to form sulfuric and
nitric acids. These chemicals then mix with water and other materials before falling into the ground. A
small portion of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides can cause acid rain from natural sources like
volcanoes, but most of it comes from the burning of fossil fuel (Feely, et al., 2010). Sulfur dioxide and
nitrogen oxides are two of the major sources associated towards acid rain. Atmospheric deposition of
the sulfur and nitrogen molecules is derived from coal fired

Dna Barcoding And Its Effects On The Malaysian Market
There is very little customers can do to ensure that they are purchasing the fish they are paying for.
Producers and restaurants owners have a tendency to mislabel their products for their own reasons.
The main reason is yet to be determined but there are researchers who have made it their goal to
resolve this dispute and show customers what they are truly buying. Too Chin Chin et al. attempt to
utilize the DNA barcoding in the fish segment, to assess the frequency of fish mislabeling on the
Malaysian market (2015). DNA barcoding tries to standardize scientific classification by using short,
single DNA sequence, for example, part of the mitochondrial gene COI to distinguish between species
(Larson, 2007). The process begins with extracting DNA and using primers to amplify COI regions
from the DNA extracts via PCR. The sequences attained are compared to the available sequences in
Bold and GenBank databases to find the mislabeled products. Similarly, a character based key can also
be constructed to review the reference sequences for variable nucleotides that can serve as diagnostics
for the species you wish to study (Loweinstein, 2009). Along with Too Chin Chin et al., there are other
researchers who based their study on the same concept to find mislabeled seafood products in certain
parts of the world. Dana Miller et al. examined seafood fraud in two types of Whitefish in Europe.
Although, the motivation for these works are to find mislabeling in products using the standard

Native Ancestors Practice Cannibalism For Ritual Purposes...
Our prehistoric ancestors practiced cannibalism not because of cultural expectations, but for survival.
Our oldest taboo has been the source of many debates, with researchers having different ideas about
why our ancestors would partake in such a barbaric activity. Evidence of this practice can be found
throughout the world, but in some cases the reasons differ. This presents a difficult question to be
answered, did our prehistoric ancestors practice cannibalism for ritual purposes or for survival? In one
of the sites where human remains were found to have been cannibalised was 14,700 years ago in
Gough s Cave. Biological anthropologist Silvia Bello and her colleagues have used microscopic
analyses to confirm that at least six people were dismembered and eaten. Human bite marks were
found along the ribs and other bones and evidence also shows that tools were used to obtain marrow. It
is one of the most well known archaeological examples of cannibalism being used by our ancestors.
The time period in which these remains existed was when England s climate was becoming colder
than usual, thus killing of prey and plants. Therefore, the search for food made the hunter gatherer s of
this time period desperate for food (Bower). Author and scholar specializing in paleoanthropology
Carole Henikoff breaks down the question of why our ancestors practiced cannibalism even further by
asking, Do our emotional and physical reactions to incoming stimuli reflect instinct or

Gender and Life Chances
Gender and Life chances
In Britain
The purpose of this essay is to describe and evaluate how gender influences the life chances of
individuals and groups within Britain today, particularly looking at the socialization process of gender
and how particular ideologies of gender roles within different social institutions can create social
inequalities through the use of power which can be achieved through justice, and applying different
theoretical perspectives of inequality in reference to gender, and looking at those in authority that use
their power to legitimize oppressive practices, in particularly against women into the formal structure
of society and how this power in unequally distributed through stratification. There many ... Show

Women who have children are also restricted therefore from moving up the social ladder.
Britain is ruled by a capitalist society, where there is a clear divide between those that have; the (ruling
class), and those that don t. The ruling class hold positions of power within many societies, for
example within the: Government, Law, Criminal Justice and Education institutions, all of which have
a major influence in life chances of individuals, through the organisation and functioning of society.
The fact that there is unequal distribution of power makes way for social conflict, as stated by Karl
Marx (1848;1964,1867 1895;1967) cited in Lindsey, L(1990) conflict theory assumes that society is a
stage where the struggles for power are performed,
After the second world war Britain experienced a shortage of labor, through the increase of the service
sector, this meant that the government needed a new source of labor, which was married women and
common wealth immigrants, although this brought about an increase in female employment, married
women were expected to be financially dependent on their husbands, however despite changing
attitudes towards women s employment, there has seen a decline in male bread winner ideologies,
however jobs are still gendered, for example men are expected to do jobs that are heavy, dirty and

Movie And Film Version Of To Kill A Mockingbird
The film version of To Kill a Mockingbird (1962), which stars Gregory Peck as Atticus and Mary
Badham as Scout, is as much a classic as the novel itself. (The film received eight Academy Awards
nominations and netted awards for Best Actor, Best Screenplay Based on Material from Another
Medium, and Best Art Direction Set Decoration, Black and White.)
Ideally, a novel and its film version complement each other, which, on many levels, is the case with To
Kill a Mockingbird. However, film can accomplish things that novels can t, and vice versa. Likewise,
film has limitations that a novel doesn t. This essay explores some of the differences between To Kill a
Mockingbird, the film and the novel.
Narration
By its nature, film is a visual medium, which makes a first person story difficult to tell. To have Scout
narrating throughout the film as she does in the book would prove distracting, so Scout as narrator is
only presented to set the mood of a scene in the film. As a result, viewers don t get a strong sense of
Scout s first person narration as they do in the book; instead, they simply notice the childlike
perspective portrayed in the story. (The film uses music to help reinforce the child s point of view. The
music is very elementary, and much of the score is composed of single notes without chords or
embellishments.)
Because the narration is not as straightforward in the film, the film seems to shift more to Jem s
experiences. For example, Jem finds all the articles in

Another problem with A.I. making decisions in the military is that it would change the landscape of
how warfare is fought. Robots lacking the emotional factor makes decisions and actions dangerous
because there will no longer be the empathy when taking lives, which creates a greater separation
between combatants and enemies (Bekey). As a result, the attitude toward wars could change because
humans would no longer have to see death or destruction caused by war, it would no longer be
something considered so horrible because it s out of sight out of mind. Much like video games have

While experts disagree with how many jobs will be lost due to intelligent machines, most experts
would at least agree that jobs will greatly be impacted by automation becoming more prevalent in all
fields of the labor force. In society, there is already a much wider range of application of machine
intelligence to tasks traditionally done by humans than many people realize (Cameron 14). Labor has
already started going down in some workplaces where automation has taking over and reports from
Bloomberg believe that machines could, replace up to have the US workforce within the next decade

current recession and depression of the thirties would look like a joke when compared. Humans could
become obsolete in the workforce. General A.I. could decide that humans are not as effective as robots
in the workplace and would possibly decide to have machines replace all humans job tasks. The
economy would change drastically as a result of huge numbers of unemployment. Unemployment

Gatorade Commercial Essay
The commercial highlights a lot of important things about the drink that Gatorade is selling to
consumers. It educates the consumers that the drink contains some elements or chemical that might
harm some individuals if it is highly consume. Furthermore, I think the Gatorade commercial is
targeting athletics because they show Cam Newton slapping two bottle of Gatorade drinks out the
hands of non athletic customer in the store. The main focus of the commercial was sweat it to get or if
you do not sweat it, you do not get it (Gatorade Company.). Just for that slogan it shows that Gatorade

advertisement. A human body is made of 60 percent water and the body need electrolytes to keep to
stay hydrate on daily basis. Human being need to balance these two because if there is no balance
between water and electrolyte, their can have an effect on the body and it can cause health issues.
Moreover, I think the purpose of the video is to bring awareness to the public about the danger of
drinking too much Gatorade. The drink is full of electrolytes and too much of it can be bad for your
health. Gatorade knows what are the key elements in their sport drink, and these elements helps
individuals with hydration and recovery. By watching the commercial highlighting the function of the
drink. I conclude that Gatorade is targeting athletics as their consumers because athletics need
electrolytes to stay hydrate during workout and recover after workout. In the video the cashier asks the
customer or the man if he know what are electrolytes because the man did not look like the customers
that Gatorade is reaching for to buy their drinks. More to it the cashier ends up not selling the

Comparing Shaun Tan s The Lost Thing And The Red Brown
Shaun Tan The leading picture book author in Australia is the one and only Shaun Tan. Out of all the
authors out there it is quite obvious why you would choose Shaun Tan over Anthony Browne. Tan s
books always seem to be that little bit more engaging and for that reason, I believe that he s a much
better author than Browne. Tan s excellent use of motifs, symbolism and detail in his illustrations
throughout all of his books don t even compare to that of Browne s books. Tan s books are the type of
books that hold a much deeper meaning than many other picture books and would appeal to a much
older audience than those of Browne s. Shaun Tan s books The Lost Thing and The Red Tree are just
two examples of Tans greatest books. Tan has also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The topics in Tan s two book The Lost Thing and The Red Tree are about having a sense of belonging
and teenage depression. Tan puts his message across in his book The Red Tree by isolating the girl
from the rest of the people and objects in many illustrations and in others it can be interpreted that the
girl has excluded herself from the rest of the world. Especially on the page with the bottle, on this
page, the girl is stuck in a bottle with an old school diving helmet on symbolising that the girl is taking
too much pressure. Also the neck of the bottle is too thin to escape from as well as bottle filling with
water. In the distance, there is also a beach with a nice blue sky and clear water. On another page, the
girl is standing on a ladder with lots of planes and totem faces symbolising there is too much going on
in her life. The way Tan illustrated this image to look like a collage is very effective because it makes
the image look as if there is a lot more happening than what Tan actually illustrated. Tan s book The
Lost Thing still emphasizes another important situation in our lives. This time Tan focuses on a
belonging kind of situation or more so the people around us are to busy to notice changes and
problems in our society. In this case the lost thing is the change. Tan explains this well on the page
when the boy takes the lost thing to Pete s house. The boy said that Pete always has an opinion on
everything. Pete did tests on the lost thing but couldn t determine what it was or where it came from.
Tan puts his point across again on the beach page earlier on the book. The boy finds the lost thing in
the sand, but seems to be the only person that notices its presence. He decides to take it home and it s
seems that not even his parents take much notice of the lost thing. These two topics that Tan has
addressed are only two of many major topics in our lives that need to be

the majority of Latin America was colonized by the European superpowers of colonial times such as,

Mary knew that Joseph would most likely leave her due to her mysteries pregnancy and a tarnished
reputation. Although, those things are very important factors to look at when considering the risk
Mary took, when she accepted to birth the Messiah, the most significate risk Mary had taken was the
endangerment of her own life. According to the Old Testament law, if a women failed to remain
physically pure before marriage she would be brought to the door of her father s house, and the men of
her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the
whore in her father s house: so shalt thou put evil away from among you. And if the women was
betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her; Then ye shall bring them
both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die. Again, Mary knew
the challenges she had to face. She had nothing but a story of an angel to give to Joseph and the towns
people. The possibility of Joseph and the towns people believing that Mary, a poor servant,
miraculously became pregnant by the Holy Spirit is as slim as it would be now. In fact, most would
conclude that Mary was covering up an immoral relationship with Roman soldier. Yet, Mary kept the
same attitude that her son had in Gethsemane when He prayed, not my will, but thine, be done.

Spanning Tree Protocol In the technological field of computers, a spanning tree protocol is a
combination of networks which are used so that they can ensure that there exists a system for the
Ethernet networks that have no loops in their layout. It has one primary goal in such a network, and it
is to prevent all bridge loops and radiation that may be caused about by broadcasting through the
consecutive use of these network protocols. This translates to spanning tree protocols creating an
environment for network designs where they can include redundant links present in the case that the
user may require a backup if the primary route used to access the link fails to work. The reroute of the
links is done with less danger presented by the bridge loops and reducing the need for enabling and
disabling these backup links. According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

R. D. King (1997) wrote that the issue of immigrants learning to speak English dates back to 1753

On the other hand, there are illegal immigrants who also come to America to make money and take
advantage of the freedom that America offers. Both legal and illegal immigrants are aware they would
have an easier time living in America if they would learn and speak English (Poisl, 2007). A large
number of illegal immigrants live daily with the possibility of prosecution and deportation and,
therefore, do not make the effort to learn to speak English (Poisl, 2007). These illegal immigrants
make little or no attempt to study and work towards becoming American citizens (Poisl, 2007).
According to a study done by New American Dimensions (Whitmore, 2008), seven in ten Hispanics
agree that immigrants in America should learn to speak English. Eighty percent of foreign born
immigrants agree they should learn to speak English if they are going to stay in the United States

Michael stayed with Nike was due to the good advice that he received from his father. He reportedly
told his son to stay with the people that had done a good job for him.
(https://prezi.com/ydg0asf6sz2z/how did air jordan shoes begin/) The fact that he had a say in the
design of the shoe and its matching apparel was the reason why Michael Jordan decided to stay with
Nike .(by Air Jordan Shoes HQ staff) At Jordan s request, the Air Jordan III was a three quarter cut
basketball shoe made of high quality, lighter than average materials. This non standard approach to the

Analysis Of The Article Men And Women s Women
Steve Craig, in his article Men s Men and Women s Women especially define how different sexes in
advertisement can influence a particular audience towards a product; one stereotypical method he
describes is Men s Women (Craig). One such ad using sex appeal, and a basic structure of Men s
Women to bring in customer was made by BMW in 2008 to sell their used cars. BMW, which is a
world renowned company known for its performance heavy automobiles, targets a male audience by
comparing a gorgeous woman to their cars. This ad by BMW, who no doubt make amazing cars,
degrade women through its message, and it enforces Steve Craig s Men s women tactic, but this ad
also goes a step further and displays the ever present patriarchy in advertisement overtly.
It is important to realize the basic facts that are associated with cars and with BMW in particular, and
that different demographic are attracted towards different types of car, to later understand that even
though the product in the ad may be amazing but the ad itself is not. Did you know that in 2010 the
number of cars in the world reached a billion (Noël)? Today s culture is highly surrounded and based
on the use of cars. They are such a prominent part of our culture today that if an alien were to visit our
planet right now they might just consider cars to be the dominant form of life (The Hitchhiker s Guide
to the Galaxy). There are so many different types, and makes of cars that they can suit any personality
in the world.

Agricultural Subsidies and Globalisation
Agricultural Subsidies and Globalization
This essay will discuss the effects that agricultural subsidies have on globalization. The main points
that will be covered in regards to subsidies and their effects on worldwide productivity, poverty in
undeveloped countries, the stance of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and International Monetary
Fund (IMF) and some discussion on implementation. First, it would be prudent to define some terms
that will be used in this paper.
Globalization is defined by Charles Hill as, the shift toward a more integrated and interdependent
world economy and includes both the globalization of markets and production. (Hill, 2009, p.6) He
goes on to define subsidies as the payments to a domestic producer ... Show more content on

With an increase in GDP, developing countries would be able to shift resources from a subsistence
level of inputs into agriculture towards infrastructure and education. Agricultural producers in
undeveloped countries currently use low technology and high labour methods. As the undeveloped
countries are able to advance in technology and knowledge, they would be able to move their
production possibilities toward meeting worldwide demands. Undeveloped countries typically are
producing for their own survival and little for foreign export, as production becomes more efficient
and surplus is gained, then farmers would be able to export the excess to the world market. Smith
points to the case of African cotton and its US production to show where subsidies hurt both
productivity and trade. The United States cotton producers are subsidized by the government and this
has depressed the prices worldwide by approximately a quarter which costs West African countries
$200 million in lost foreign exchange. Over 11 million people rely on cotton for their income but with
US subsidies in place it reduces the price and therefore income received. If subsidies were removed,
Africa could produce at two thirds the

Essay on The Penguing Classic Early Irish Myths and Sagas
The Penguing Classic Early Irish Myths and Sagas
The Penguin Classic Early Irish Myths And Sagas exhibits a great cross section of the many examples
of the stories told by Iron Age Celts. These stories revolve around the customs, battles, gods, and
heroes of the ancient Celts. It is said that a great deal can be learned from Irish tales about the
clothing, weapons, houses, and other aspects of the material culture of the Iron Age Celts 1 and that
the stories are more valuable for scholars of society than scholars of religion 2.
The question if these stories are a good window on the Iron Age is a difficult one. Firstly historians
can not even confirm what happened in the time of the Iron Age Celts, secondly, without much ...

The character Cu Chulaind could grow to abnormal sizes to defeat enemies like in the first story of
The Boy hood Deeds of Cu Chulaind where he fought and proved himself to all three fifties of the
young boys. Then in the second story he is conquering enemies at the age of six to save his people and
their name. These stories even have supernatural pigs. The pig in The Tale of Macc Da Tho s Pig was
so big that 40 oxen had laid across it and its stomach was enough for a meal for nine men. 4
Beside these logical impossibilities historians have also found mistakes in the historical interpretations
of these stories. The research in Ronald Hutton s book The Pagan Religions of the Ancient British
Isles tells of many errors in the in the references in association with the proposed time line. The
archeology suggests that the earliest literature was not a window on the Iron Age but on the early
Middle Ages in which it was composed. In many of the stories they speak of gathering in Halls,
fighting with swords which came about in the Viking age, and riding in chariots from the Christian
times 5. The real Iron Age Celts had a simpler way of living than the higher class they are portrayed to
have enjoyed living in.
The stories in the book Early Irish Myths And Sagas can tell us a great deal about the Celtic Peoples
praying to more than one god. Some of the stories tell us who their gods were, what their

Essay On Why Ambien Visits America
Why Ambien related ER visits are increasing in America?
A recent study conducted by SAMHSA unit of the United States revealed that there was a steep
increase in the number of emergency room visits owing to the intake of prescribed sleep medications
like Ambien. The study analyzed ER archives from 2005 2010, which indicated that the ER visits
related to Ambienhad risen by 220 percent over the five years. The study report concluded that careful
monitoring of drugs like Ambien is a necessity for safe use by the public. This article further discusses
and uncovers the reasons behind the rise in Ambien related ER visits in America.
The reason
Most of the researchers on the drug monitoring unit, SAMHSA had mentioned that a major portion of
the Ambien ER visits were of people who were already on other medications. Ambien, alone, was not
triggering any severe side effects. However, the drug when coupled with other drugs or chemicals was
able to trigger severe side effects that resulted in the spike of ER visits during that particular period.
This is the principle of Drug interaction, where a certain drug that you take may change its properties
based on the othermedications you take. This could amplify the risk associated with the drug,
ultimately leading to serious side effects. Ambien, as a drug has severe interactions with other drugs,
which are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alcoholic drinks also contain Sodium Oxybate in very low amounts. Sodium Oxybate, psychoactive
medications, and alcohol affect the central nervous system s normal functioning temporarily. If a
person on psychoactive drugs for insomnia takes Ambien, or if they take Ambien with excess alcohol
in their system, they may experience the severity of side effects like confusion, restlessness,
distress, and loss of coordination. Most doctors recommend not taking Ambien with alcohol or in
combination with any psychoactive

Karl Marx Religion
Karl Marx himself was an atheist and Marxism is an atheistic ideology, meaning that they take
distance from the belief that there is a God . He meant that in the country of reason the mere existence
of God can have no meaning . He gave an example that if you brought your God to a foreign country
that worshipped other Gods, they will provide proof of the non existence of your God . However,
Marx did not address religion in a systematic fashion in any of his writing but at the same time he
touches on the subject recurrently in books, speeches and pamphlets. The reason for this is that one
can clearly see that his critique of religion forms one piece of his overall critique of society. In order to
be able to understand his critique of religion,

The Pros And Cons Of Carpet Cleaning
There is a reason why some people are professionals in a field and others are either novices or simply
enthusiasts. Professionals are privy to certain trainings, tips, tricks, and industry insights into a
particular craft, since they surround themselves with it everyday. Novices and enthusiasts are self
taught or learned it on U tube, and may or may not have the right information regarding how to handle
a task. When it comes to tackling a home improvement project, the homeowner, who wants to save
money, attempts to take on the task alone, without the help of a professional. This is usually where the
trouble starts.
When it comes to carpet cleaning, calling a professional is the wisest decision. Due to the wide variety
of fabrics and materials used today, certain problems could arise, which only a professional would
know how to handle. That mysterious stain that nobody knows how it got there or what it is may take
a special product to remove. Using generic or grocery store bought cleaning agents can set a stain or
permanently discolor the carpet. Taking on a carpet cleaning issue without knowing the proper method
of removal or product to use may lead to a carpet that looks worse than before, and is now going to
cost more money than before. Below are some of the main reasons why it is best to contact a
professional carpet cleaning company before trying to remove a carpet stain ... Show more content on

This is why simply picking up a carpet cleaning solution at the local home improvement store and
taking the project on with nothing more than the instructions on the back of the container can be
dangerous to the carpet. Certain cleansers contain bleach, which will lighten or leave a yellowing
affect to a carpet, turning a removable stain into a bleached spot that will not come out at all. Once
you have a bleach stain on your carpet, there is no going

Organizational leaders, investors and creditors should understand how to calculate key financial ratios
and their importance in analyzing the financial pulse of a firm. What does the term variance analysis
mean when applied of financial performance of health care organizations? The process of portfolio
selection that assumes that every rational investor, at a given level of risk, will accept only the largest
expected return. More specifically, mean variance analysis attempts to account for risk and expected
return mathematically to help the investor find a portfolio with the maximum return for the minimum
about of risk. Business information (BI) systems establish an automated framework for making
decisions. Effective BI systems provide a common platform and language for key decision makers in
an organization. Applications bring analytics and performance management to health care. This insight
gives management consultants the ability to gain insights into the employees, management and
business partners of any health care organization. For health care this means increased revenue,
reduced costs and less risk due to higher industry compliance standards which translates into a more
efficient experience for both health care professionals and patients alike. From revenues to expenses,
BI allows for detailed analysis of cash flow statements and an efficient platform for comparing
planned results to actual

Stereotypes In The Film, Goon By Seann William Scott
Do you ever feel like everyone has a thing ? That one thing, something they re good at? But you just
can t seem to find your thing? Then you share the same feeling with Doug Glatt, played by Seann
William Scott has in the movie Goon. All Dougs family and friends have their thing, his parents and
brother are doctors, his best friend has a hockey themed webcast he owns, but Doug has nothing but
his job as a bouncer at the local bar. All that changes when a hockey coach witnesses Doug in a fight,
bashing some unfortunate souls face in, he quickly offers doug the opportunity to play hockey as an
enforcer claiming, You ve been touched by the fist of God for Christ s sake! . An enforcer is a player
in hockey who is on the ice solely to protect the team s star players, they are goons .
The movie takes you along with Doug on his journey to getting payed to play for a team in
Massachusetts as an enforcer for their star player Xavier Laflamme played by Marc André Grondin. It
s a long road for Doug considering he has never played hockey let alone skated. As Doug fights,
literally fights, for the team s respect, knocking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

going on there is plenty of raunchy comedy to keep you laughing throughout the whole movie, as well
as a juicy subplot between Doug and a girl he meets named Eva played by Alison Pill. I personally
love the movie Goon and for me it s an easy 6 out of 5 stars. One of the most amazing concepts to this
movie is the plot is actually one hundred percent possible! And even better you don t have to know
anything about hockey to love this movie, just don t let it give you the wrong impression of the game
of hockey, although the vulgar language and crude jokes are something that is like clockwork in
hockey; it s not all

The Many Faces Of Social Darwinism
Kimberly Hollman HIS356K
March 3, 2016
The Many Faces of Social Darwinism
Hollman 1 of 5 The second half of the 19th century was a time of great flux in the United States. The
impact of the Civil War perturbed all spheres of American domestic life, leaving its citizens in a state
of anxiety regarding their beliefs, government, and even their fellow man. These changes happened
concurrently with advances in the sciences: on the eve of the Civil War, Charles Darwin published his
influential On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured
Races in the Struggle for Life. Darwin s theory of evolution via natural selection was met with
widespread acclaim and recognition, but was thereafter reappropriated to explain the dynamic and
sometimes struggling socioeconomic condition of the United States. Endless interpretations of Social
Darwinism crept into the collective consciousness as a philosophy backed by scientific evidence,
affecting all spheres of life. Darwinism, and the progressive movement pushback, forced America to
define and defend its beliefs regarding interpersonal dynamics on all levels, resulting in most
Americans adopting a pick and choose mentality towards the philosophy.
Social theorist Herbert Spencer, a contemporary to Darwin, was one of the most vocal proponents of
Social Darwinism. Coining the term Survival of the Fittest , he proposed that there existed a natural
order to society, where the strong be it on an

  • 2. The Learning Objective Of The Lesson Comparing Fractions Activity 1: Comparing Fractions (October 12, 2016) The learning objective of the lesson Comparing Fractions was to demonstrate to students that fractions are everywhere we go and the importance of being able to identify fractions with greater or less value when comparing fractions. Engage During this activity students were very engaged, they created their own figures using the pattern blocks. Below there are some of the examples of the figures that students come up with (see fig.1 2). After creating these figures, they realized that they could have use tringles to make their figures instead of the different shapes. So, I ask them Could you show me how this could work? Some students started to make the same figures but this time only using tringles. However, I noticed that David, one of the students was not doing the same as his classmates. Instead, he was writing a key, he wrote how many triangles were in a Hexagon, a rhombus, and in a trapezoid. Then he said I think that I need 21 triangles. I thought that was very impressive for him to completely do something different than his classmates. Then, I saw the opportunity to allow him to continue with the lesson while the others were still figuring out how many triangles were needed to create the same figure. After everyone was done with counting how many triangles were needed for their figures, I asked them to create fractions to represent the different shapes in their figures. In order for students to see from an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Disparities in Prison Populations Essay DISPARITIES IN PRISON POPULATIONS Although we would like to believe the world is not as racially charged in 2013 as it was in the 1960s, a look in our penal system would show that minorities are still arrested and incarcerated at a higher rate than whites. The United States has experienced a rise in its prison population over the last 40 years and our incarceration rate is nearly 5 times higher than any other country. Even though 13% of the US population are African American males, they make up 38% of the prison population. Contributing factors to these numbers are mandatory minimum sentences, high crime and poverty areas, and lack of rehabilitative resources within our system (p.77 78). In the 1980s, the United States started a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Minorities in these urban areas have a hard time finding employment that could support their family efficiently. Most end up dropping out of school and join or are forced to join gangs. They are more likely to turn to crime as a means of survival which increases their chances of building a criminal history. This type of criminal activity also ties back into the Three Strikes Law (Nicosia, MacDonald, Arkes. 2013) which states that the offender will be incarcerated on their third offense, no matter how minor the charge. The lack of rehabilitative resources in the criminal justice system leads to repeat offenders also. Although it should not be the responsibility of those in society who are doing the right thing to pay for services for those who are incarcerated, we are doing ourselves an injustice if we don t. If we are not providing rehabilitative classes, vocational/job training, or some type of counseling while prisoners are incarcerated, we are defeating the purpose of locking them up. Criminal justice referrals account for almost 37% of drug treatment admissions (Nicosia, MacDonald, Arkes. 2013. p. 78). If we don t address the issues that got them incarcerated in the first place, they will turn back to the only life they know that provided fast money. I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Humanity In The Backdraft Of Technology Greed vs. Humanity In the story The Backdraft of Technology Stephanie Alaimo and Mark Koester indicated the many disadvantages of technology in our society. Although there are many advantages with advance technology; Alaimo and Koester still warn the readers about the negative cause and effects of technology in the present time and the future. They claim that technology have eliminate most of a lower class jobs. Their suggestion was to Say No! to self checkout. • 5. The Narrator s Imaginations In Nighthawks Often in life, people are faced with difficult times; this is part of being human. People cope with these times in different ways some rely on a sense of humour, others on the support of friends, still others use their imagination to take them out of their problems and give them the inner strength they need to face difficult situations. This is the case with the narrator in Nighthawks who uses his imagination to escape from unemployment into the world of art. This is also the case in my own experience when I used my imagination to escape from the hardship of a boring, repetitive summer job. In the excerpt from Nighthawks , the narrator is facing the difficult situation of being out of a job. He obviously has few resources at home to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was employed in a grocery store for one unforgettable summer. Everything about the store was depressing; it was a small corner grocery in the village I grew up in, and the owner did not believe in marketing why should he spend money on attracting people to the store? It was the only one in town there was no other choice. The interior of the store was dark enough, but the storeroom in the back where I had to spend most of my summer days was like endless night it was lit only by a tiny light bulb and was so packed with goods there was no room to sit down, not that I was allowed that luxury very often. Here was where I was forced to spend my working hours, but if my body was there, my mind and spirit were not. I used to spend hours unpacking cans and boxes and putting prices on them by hand. While doing this, I would read the labels and fantasize about visiting the places where all the products came from. I would be on a beach in Hawaii with pineapples growing nearby, a rice field in Thailand watching the green shoots grow, or sitting on a cool porch in India sipping tea grown on my own land. It seems absurd now, but my imagination was viviv then, and everything seemed possible. • 6. Reflection Of Self Reflection As I finish my first semester of college in Chico, I now realize how much I have changed over the past three to four months. Coming here was a huge adjustment, but the town, people, and classes I have taken are amazing. The classes I took this semester, especially the U Course, had a very big impact on who I am as a person since I got to college. The class required me to reflect upon myself, making me realize how much I was changing throughout the course. I can now interpret how much I have learned about one s self identity, sustainability, and the four general education student learning outcomes. Throughout the U course, I was forced to ask myself who am i? and to reflect upon it in my writing. I was never certain on how to answer this question; it s tough and broad. As of now, if asked this question I would identify myself as a female who is open to anything life has to offer, is funny and social, but is an introvert as well. I believe, The way you understand the world now has changed from the way you understood the world as a child, and along with your changing perspective, your physical body, including your motor coordination and your physical abilities, have altered (Thia Wolf 2012). As a child, I was very closed minded, it was my way or no way. Now that i m older I see that i m open to more things due to my experiences throughout life; this is why I believe in the social/relational approaches to understanding the formation of identity. These theories suggest that we form our identity from past experiences with others. In my opinion, these theories are the most precise because one needs to experience with others to help identify themselves. Shared experiences inform yourself that you are similar or not to the others; this helps to understand one s self identity. The most change I have seen throughout the semester is in my Eco Identity. These past couple of months, I have gained a great amount of knowledge on the topic of sustainability causing my eco identity to change drastically. Before college, I wasn t well educated or aware on the effects on the earth we live on when living a unsustainable life. I would never try reducing my use of plastic, water, or paper. Now I find myself using reusable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Zombies And The Horror Genre In modern times, zombies saturate popular culture and have become a mainstay in the cinematic world. Many people view zombies as a purely fictional creation with little purpose beyond merely providing entertainment for the duration of the movie. However, this view of zombies misses their true original purpose, a purpose which they still serve today. Zombies were not created as arbitrary fictional characters, but rather as monsters with meaning (Blumberg). Zombies serve as an outlet for people to process their biggest fears in the world around them. Zombies and the horror genre have become a modern cinematic expression of people s deepest fears, fears that evolve over time as people change. The general concept of zombies as we know them today originated in the 1910s with the silent French film J accuse. This film helped to show the horrors of the war and the pain inflicted upon the French people. To the modern viewer however, the view of zombies in this film would appear to be strange and very different monsters from what they are used to seeing. In fact, many people would not consider it a zombie movie at all, but rather a movie that had many elements that later would contribute to the development of zombies. The zombies in the film are seemingly real people and reflect the horrors that the French faced during the war. While this idea of zombies does not remain, the concept that zombies reflect people s biggest fears remain. While the zombies in J accuse were one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With the war officially starting in June of 1950 it took almost three years of North and South Korea battling until the armistice was signed in July of 1953. The ongoing cold war between America and Russia can be linked to as to why the Korean conflict was originally initiated. Still to this day the border between North and South Korea is a heated zone, there is little to no hope of a united Korea anytime soon. Short term cause American troops began to leave South Korea around mid 1949 with Dean Acheson Releasing a speech in January 1950 stating that the US would no longer commit their forces to mainland Asia. Acheson saying that their defensive perimeter ran through Japan and the Ryukyu but not the Republic of Korea or the Republic of China, The defensive perimeter runs along the Aleutians to Japan and then goes to the Ryukyus. We hold important defence positions in the Ryukyu Islands, and those we will continue to hold . The recent withdrawal of American troops from South Korea gave Kim Il Sung an opportunity to make a push towards South Korea Although; he could not do this alone, he would need the help of Stalin. My Catholic Experience Paper Well I grew up in a Catholic family with a grandmother who was very spiritual, and even had her own room with hundreds of saints, and she would pray to them for different requests. The church services were so discipline to me, and felt like a punishment because of the standing and kneeling all through out the service. • 11. The Nature Of Love In Shakespeare s Sonnet 130 By William... William Shakespeare is recognized for being one of greatest poets of all time. His works are still popular to this day. Many of his works included extended metaphors and similes with rhetorical language and were rooted in the nature of love. Two of his poems that are rather alike, but also very contrastive are Shall I compare thee to a summer s day? and My mistresses eyes are nothing like the sun. They both contain a core theme of love or anti love in some aspects. While these two poems are built around the same type of subject, their interpretations come across in separate ways. In contrast to Shakespeare s Sonnet 18 which is a serious love poem that contains imagery and metaphors, Shakespeare s Sonnet 130 is more negative and humorous but contains imagery and similes. Overall, both of these poems fulfill the same motive. They were written to praise women, but the two use different methods for doing so. In Sonnet 18 , Shakespeare compares his lover with the negative aspects of summer stating /Thou art more lovely and more temperate/ (2). On the other hand in Sonnet 130 , Shakespeare compares his mistress to the good qualities of acquisitive things to show how even though she is not perfect, she is still important to him. He vows by heaven (13) that the feelings he has for his mistress are as rare /As any she belied with false compare/ (14). The messages delivered by the two poems are very unique. • 12. Persuasive Essay On Conversion Therapy Conversion therapy, also known as reparative therapy, or Sexual Orientation Change Efforts (SOCE) has a troubled history within the United States and abroad. Conversion therapy is the use of a variety of means to attempt to change an individual s sexual or gender orientation. Current practices include inducing vomiting or paralysis while showing a subject homoerotic images, having a subject snap a rubber band on their wrist whenever they have certain thoughts, or using tactics to create shame or aversion to same sex or transgender thoughts. Many established institutes claim that the therapy does or doesn t work and offer contradicting evidence for their position. The Movement Advancement Project, a group dedicated to providing research for the advancement of LGBT people, states in an infographic that nine states, plus the District of Columbia and a handful of municipalities have banned conversion therapy from being provided by licensed medical professionals to minors ( Kids 1). Based on the established evidence and the overwhelming number of psychologists and sociologist that disavow conversion therapy, along with the multitude of horror stories from children who were persuaded, or forced, to participate by their parents, the federal government should ban conversion therapy for all minors. Despite the largely negative responses, many organizations support conversion therapy. Many practitioners such as the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality ... Finally she thinks she has the chance, when she hears that the sword, Excalibur, has been stolen from king Arthur. Kayley goes on an adventure to find Excalibur, and return the sword to Camelot. On her way she travels through the Forbidden Forest, and finds a blind hermit named Garrett (voiced by Cary Elwes). Garrett helps Kayley on her quest to find the sword. The songs from the movie tie all the scenes together, and help explain the feelings of the characters. When Kayley sings, On my Father s Wings , it shows the love she has for her father, and how she wants to make him proud. Further into the movie we hear a song from Garrett. The song he sings, I Stand Alone , emphasizes how he can take care of himself, and that he doesn t need anybody else. Devon, and Cornwall sing the song If I Didn t Have You , which shows that they would rather not be their own person and not be stuck at the hip all the time. This song also adds to the comic of the movie, it shows the humor of the two of them. Overall the music in this movie helps explain the characters in the film, and makes it very entertaining to watch. Even though Quest for Camelot is not seen as the greatest movie of all time, I think that it is an enjoyable movie. The catchy soundtrack, developing characters, and the life lessons that are taught all support the reason to think of this movie as one to watch. DNA is an incredibly complex molecule that acts as an instruction book for cells. This molecule was discovered in the late 1800 s by a Swiss biochemist named Friedrich Miescher. Miescher isolated analyzed and recognized DNA as a unique macromolecule. Johannas Friedrich Miescher was born in 1844 to a distinguished scientific family. In college, Miescher studied medicine but after his graduation in 1868, he decided to pursue physiological chemistry. This was due to a hearing impairment caused by a severe attack of typhoid fever. In 1869, he stayed at the laboratory of Felix Hoppe Seyler. By combining his knowledge of medicine and organic chemistry he isolated and chemically characterized DNA. At the time of this discovery, many believed that cells were largely made of proteins. Miescher contradicted this opinion by noting that the presence of something that cannot belong among any of the protein substances known hitherto . He showed that this substance was derived from the nucleus of the cell alone and, therefore, named it nuclein . He then went on to prove that nuclein was present in many cells and contained phosphorous carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen. These findings were so revolutionary that ... The question about which animal the participant would choose was based on the idea of less common animals, such as goats, being used as therapy animals and if someone would choose a farm animal as a therapy aid. The last section of questions focused on mental health and stress. The Is Flawed And Does Not Promote Truth Finding Though there are positive aspects of the adversarial system, scholars argue that as it is practiced today, the system is deeply flawed and does not promote truth finding. According to Keith Findley (2012), Clinical Professor at the University of Wisconsin Law School, and Co Director of the Wisconsin Innocence Project, the criminal court system as of today seeks justice but does not seek the truth. Findley asserts that the adversarial system disproportionally benefits the prosecution over the defense (2012). This is due to the fact that though the prosecution and defense are supposed to be equal, they are not. It is a fact that prosecutors are funded by the state and are able to gain access to evidence and resources unlike criminal defense attorneys. In high profile cases it is known that the Prosecutor s Office appoint their most skilled attorney to the case while it is known that indigent defendants aren t able to afford highly experienced attorneys. As a result, the truth is not uncovered or the goal. Along with this, in the case involving normal proceedings indigent defendants are often given public defenders as legal representation. According to Ray Finkelstein (2011), a former Judge, the Public Defenders Association is heavily burned with cases and they do not have the same resource and funds as the Prosecutors Office. Therefore, public defenders are often over worked and have a high volume of clients that they have to represent with little resources to assist in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. Acid Rain Acidification of the surface of the water is a major problem in areas of the northeastern United States, in eastern Canada, and in southern Scandinavia, it also occurs in other parts of the world as well (Baker Schofield, 1982). The acidification on the surface of water causes many fish populations to decline in soft water aquatic environments, that are exposed to acid precipitation (Neville Campell, 1988). This acidification of the surface water is caused by acid rain. Acid rain or otherwise known as acid deposition is a term that includes any form of precipitation with acidic components, such as sulfuric or nitric acid that comes down from the atmosphere in wet or dry forms. These forms include rain, snow, fog, hail or even dust that can be acidic. Acid rain is caused by when sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) are put into the atmosphere and then transported by wind and air currents. Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides react with water, oxygen and other chemicals to form sulfuric and nitric acids. These chemicals then mix with water and other materials before falling into the ground. A small portion of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides can cause acid rain from natural sources like volcanoes, but most of it comes from the burning of fossil fuel (Feely, et al., 2010). Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are two of the major sources associated towards acid rain. Atmospheric deposition of the sulfur and nitrogen molecules is derived from coal fired ... • 23. Dna Barcoding And Its Effects On The Malaysian Market There is very little customers can do to ensure that they are purchasing the fish they are paying for. Producers and restaurants owners have a tendency to mislabel their products for their own reasons. The main reason is yet to be determined but there are researchers who have made it their goal to resolve this dispute and show customers what they are truly buying. Too Chin Chin et al. attempt to utilize the DNA barcoding in the fish segment, to assess the frequency of fish mislabeling on the Malaysian market (2015). DNA barcoding tries to standardize scientific classification by using short, single DNA sequence, for example, part of the mitochondrial gene COI to distinguish between species (Larson, 2007). The process begins with extracting DNA and using primers to amplify COI regions from the DNA extracts via PCR. The sequences attained are compared to the available sequences in Bold and GenBank databases to find the mislabeled products. Similarly, a character based key can also be constructed to review the reference sequences for variable nucleotides that can serve as diagnostics for the species you wish to study (Loweinstein, 2009). Along with Too Chin Chin et al., there are other researchers who based their study on the same concept to find mislabeled seafood products in certain parts of the world. Dana Miller et al. examined seafood fraud in two types of Whitefish in Europe. Although, the motivation for these works are to find mislabeling in products using the standard ... • 25. Native Ancestors Practice Cannibalism For Ritual Purposes... Our prehistoric ancestors practiced cannibalism not because of cultural expectations, but for survival. Our oldest taboo has been the source of many debates, with researchers having different ideas about why our ancestors would partake in such a barbaric activity. Evidence of this practice can be found throughout the world, but in some cases the reasons differ. This presents a difficult question to be answered, did our prehistoric ancestors practice cannibalism for ritual purposes or for survival? In one of the sites where human remains were found to have been cannibalised was 14,700 years ago in Gough s Cave. Biological anthropologist Silvia Bello and her colleagues have used microscopic analyses to confirm that at least six people were dismembered and eaten. Human bite marks were found along the ribs and other bones and evidence also shows that tools were used to obtain marrow. It is one of the most well known archaeological examples of cannibalism being used by our ancestors. The time period in which these remains existed was when England s climate was becoming colder than usual, thus killing of prey and plants. Therefore, the search for food made the hunter gatherer s of this time period desperate for food (Bower). Author and scholar specializing in paleoanthropology Carole Henikoff breaks down the question of why our ancestors practiced cannibalism even further by asking, Do our emotional and physical reactions to incoming stimuli reflect instinct or ... Movie And Film Version Of To Kill A Mockingbird The film version of To Kill a Mockingbird (1962), which stars Gregory Peck as Atticus and Mary Badham as Scout, is as much a classic as the novel itself. (The film received eight Academy Awards nominations and netted awards for Best Actor, Best Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium, and Best Art Direction Set Decoration, Black and White.) Ideally, a novel and its film version complement each other, which, on many levels, is the case with To Kill a Mockingbird. However, film can accomplish things that novels can t, and vice versa. Likewise, film has limitations that a novel doesn t. This essay explores some of the differences between To Kill a Mockingbird, the film and the novel. Narration By its nature, film is a visual medium, which makes a first person story difficult to tell. To have Scout narrating throughout the film as she does in the book would prove distracting, so Scout as narrator is only presented to set the mood of a scene in the film. As a result, viewers don t get a strong sense of Scout s first person narration as they do in the book; instead, they simply notice the childlike perspective portrayed in the story. (The film uses music to help reinforce the child s point of view. The music is very elementary, and much of the score is composed of single notes without chords or embellishments.) Because the narration is not as straightforward in the film, the film seems to shift more to Jem s experiences. For example, Jem finds all the articles in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The topics in Tan s two book The Lost Thing and The Red Tree are about having a sense of belonging and teenage depression. Tan puts his message across in his book The Red Tree by isolating the girl from the rest of the people and objects in many illustrations and in others it can be interpreted that the girl has excluded herself from the rest of the world. Especially on the page with the bottle, on this page, the girl is stuck in a bottle with an old school diving helmet on symbolising that the girl is taking too much pressure. Also the neck of the bottle is too thin to escape from as well as bottle filling with water. In the distance, there is also a beach with a nice blue sky and clear water. On another page, the girl is standing on a ladder with lots of planes and totem faces symbolising there is too much going on in her life. The way Tan illustrated this image to look like a collage is very effective because it makes the image look as if there is a lot more happening than what Tan actually illustrated. Tan s book The Lost Thing still emphasizes another important situation in our lives. This time Tan focuses on a belonging kind of situation or more so the people around us are to busy to notice changes and problems in our society. In this case the lost thing is the change. Tan explains this well on the page when the boy takes the lost thing to Pete s house. The boy said that Pete always has an opinion on everything. On the other hand, there are illegal immigrants who also come to America to make money and take advantage of the freedom that America offers. Both legal and illegal immigrants are aware they would have an easier time living in America if they would learn and speak English (Poisl, 2007). A large number of illegal immigrants live daily with the possibility of prosecution and deportation and, therefore, do not make the effort to learn to speak English (Poisl, 2007). These illegal immigrants make little or no attempt to study and work towards becoming American citizens (Poisl, 2007). According to a study done by New American Dimensions (Whitmore, 2008), seven in ten Hispanics agree that immigrants in America should learn to speak English. Eighty percent of foreign born immigrants agree they should learn to speak English if they are going to stay in the United States (Whitmore, 2008). Six in ten Hispanics interviewed for this study agreed Hispanic immigrants should follow the rules and come to the United States legally (Whitmore, 2008). There are emotional and legal concerns surrounding whether immigrants should learn to speak English. Domenico Maceri (2009), an award winning author and foreign language instructor at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria California, states I never met an immigrant in the United States who needed laws to be reminded that English is necessary to succeed (par. 9). ... (Love Lattimore, 2009, 71 74) With an increase in GDP, developing countries would be able to shift resources from a subsistence level of inputs into agriculture towards infrastructure and education. Agricultural producers in undeveloped countries currently use low technology and high labour methods. As the undeveloped countries are able to advance in technology and knowledge, they would be able to move their production possibilities toward meeting worldwide demands. Undeveloped countries typically are producing for their own survival and little for foreign export, as production becomes more efficient and surplus is gained, then farmers would be able to export the excess to the world market. Smith points to the case of African cotton and its US production to show where subsidies hurt both productivity and trade. The United States cotton producers are subsidized by the government and this has depressed the prices worldwide by approximately a quarter which costs West African countries $200 million in lost foreign exchange. Over 11 million people rely on cotton for their income but with US subsidies in place it reduces the price and therefore income received. Essay on The Penguing Classic Early Irish Myths and Sagas The Penguing Classic Early Irish Myths and Sagas The Penguin Classic Early Irish Myths And Sagas exhibits a great cross section of the many examples of the stories told by Iron Age Celts. These stories revolve around the customs, battles, gods, and heroes of the ancient Celts. It is said that a great deal can be learned from Irish tales about the clothing, weapons, houses, and other aspects of the material culture of the Iron Age Celts 1 and that the stories are more valuable for scholars of society than scholars of religion 2. The pig in The Tale of Macc Da Tho s Pig was so big that 40 oxen had laid across it and its stomach was enough for a meal for nine men. 4 Beside these logical impossibilities historians have also found mistakes in the historical interpretations of these stories. The research in Ronald Hutton s book The Pagan Religions of the Ancient British Isles tells of many errors in the in the references in association with the proposed time line. The study analyzed ER archives from 2005 2010, which indicated that the ER visits related to Ambienhad risen by 220 percent over the five years. The study report concluded that careful monitoring of drugs like Ambien is a necessity for safe use by the public. • 51. The Many Faces Of Social Darwinism Kimberly Hollman HIS356K March 3, 2016 The Many Faces of Social Darwinism Hollman 1 of 5 The second half of the 19th century was a time of great flux in the United States. The impact of the Civil War perturbed all spheres of American domestic life, leaving its citizens in a state of anxiety regarding their beliefs, government, and even their fellow man. These changes happened concurrently with advances in the sciences: on the eve of the Civil War, Charles Darwin published his influential On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life. Darwin s theory of evolution via natural selection was met with widespread acclaim and recognition, but was thereafter reappropriated to explain the dynamic and sometimes struggling socioeconomic condition of the United States. Endless interpretations of Social Darwinism crept into the collective consciousness as a philosophy backed by scientific evidence, affecting all spheres of life. Darwinism, and the progressive movement pushback, forced America to define and defend its beliefs regarding interpersonal dynamics on all levels, resulting in most Americans adopting a pick and choose mentality towards the philosophy. Social theorist Herbert Spencer, a contemporary to Darwin, was one of the most vocal proponents of Social Darwinism. Coining the term Survival of the Fittest , he proposed that there existed a natural order to society, where the strong be it on an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
