Benefits And Presentation Of The Field Center Essay
I.What topic or presentation is most beneficial to future students transitioning to Bradley University
and why?
I believe the most beneficial presentation would be either of the HEAT presentations because
students are now able to make life altering choices on their own.
The presentations on alcohol and drugs and safe sex because it s never too late to learn about
those things or it s always good to be reminded.
The resources that the campus offers.
The HEAT presentations and going through registering for classes.
Sex Ed. presentation.
The presentation about the various office and center provided on campus.
Smith Career Center because it s a really helpful resource that I feel like many students forget to
use.
The Smith Career Center because in the future it s going to be very helpful for us students.
B.A.D. because they really explain how to get involved and have events to meet new students.
The Smith Career Center is beneficial to future students because it allows them to think about
what future job they might want to do.

Conflict Management Style With Others
Conflict Management Style When considering your conflict management style with others, be it;
personal or professional, we tend to use the style that seems appropriate to the conflict.
Managing conflict is a difficult task that we all face during our life time, but becoming aware of
your own characteristic style could help determine why conflicts result exactly the way they do. It
helps determine what is a healthy outcome, or not? Each circumstance is different! Interpersonal
conflict is very common with many relationships. It occurs when two people can not meet in the
middle or agree on a discussion. Cooperation is key to maintaining a healthy debate. More
frequently; when dealing with members of your own family, issues arise that include conflict and
resolution. During this process our true conflict management style appears out of thin air . (Steve
A. Beebe, 2008, p. 191). Our behavior or conflict style tells a lot about us as humans. It is an
important piece of life s puzzles, and how we go about living a healthy life. Our particular path
decides where conflict will lead to, or if it could be resolved quickly with everyone feeling
content. However, our non verbal behavior could indicate when a person is upset or anoid. This is
usually related to unmet needs or goals (Steve A. Beebe, 2008, p. 191). I participated in a conflict
management style quiz that was created by Reginald Adkins to see what style I followed. The style
that I tend to follow is Harmonizing.

The Three Branches Of Government Essay
The Three Branches of Government In 1787 the leaders of the united states gathered to write the
constitution which they also divided into three branches to ensure a central government in which
no group or individual gains too much control. The three branches consists on the following
Legislative, Executive, and Judicial. Legislative branch rejects or confirms presidential
appointments, and also has the authority to declare war. The power of the Executive branch is to
carry out and enforce laws. It includes the president, the vice president, the cabinet, independent
agencies, executive departments, commissions, committees, and other boards. The last branch that
is the Judicial branch interprets the meaning of laws, decides if laws violate the constitution, and
applies laws to individual cases. Article I of the United StatesConstitution created and empowered
our legislative branch of government. The legislative branch is made up of the two houses of
congress the Senate and the House of Representatives. As I mention on the introduction the most
important duty of the legislative branch is to make laws. The laws are written, discussed, and voted
in the congress.
There are 100 senators in the Senate, two from each state. Senators are elected by their states and
serve six year terms. The Vice President

Tehran Inequality
Inequality has occurred in history for many years. Some examples of inequality demonstrate a
superior race like slavery in the United States and apartheid in South Africa or others have a
superior gender like women in Iran and Pakistan. Either way there was one group that had more
power over the other which resulted in the minority demanding their freedom back.
Inequality occurred in the United States from 1619 1863. During this time, white Americans bought
and traded African Americans as slaves. Although President Abraham Lincoln signed the
Emancipation Proclamation in 1862, inequality between blacks and whites persisted. It wasn t until
the civil rights movement in the 1950s and 60s that inequality finally ended. Blacks have fought

In these countries women were under strict rule and given little to no rights outside their homes.
Azar Nafisi describes the hardships of being a woman in Iran during this time in her memoir
titled, Reading Lolita in Tehran . In this memoir it states, It is in her best interest not to be seen,
not be heard or noticed. She doesn t walk upright, but bends her head towards the ground and
doesn t look at passersby. (Nafisi 82). This shows that women were nervous to be seen by the
men who had all of the power. They were in fact afraid of being seen. In the book I Am Malala
by women rights advocate Malala Yousafzai she tells her life story. She begins in her childhood
where she started to see the inequality enforced by the Taliban. As she grows up she starts to see
her rights be taken from her like her right to an education. She realized the unjust inequality all
around her. She began to tell of her experiences and speak out against the Taliban for her right to
be educated. (Yousafzai) Malala was one of few who spoke out because the others were afraid of
the punishments. She and other passionate women have demanded their rights back from the
dominant men. They no longer could tolerate the inequality and wanted it to end. They fought for
their freedom, and in some cases it was

Analysis Of The Stanley The Stanley Parable
The Stanley Parable (2013) was a game released to widespread acclaim about a man named
Stanley, whose coworkers mysteriously disappear from the office and whose actions and choices
are subsequently voiced by a narrator. While at first the game might seem simple and ordinary, the
longer spent in the gamethe more complex the narrativeis revealed to be. The game satirizes a lot of
conventions and narrative tropes used throughout the games industry, as well as commenting on
other facets tied heavily to the games medium, like hacks, bugs, and even gameplay. While that
might not be special in itself, what makes The Stanley Parable stand out is how it goes about
commenting on these things. By having the player control Stanley and have all their actions
chronicled by the narrator, the game has created these three distinct entities: The player, Stanley
and the narrator. The relationship between these three is the primary way the game is able to
explore certain themes such as player agency, and how much choice matters. According to Astrid
Ensslin, As players we are made to read [the game] as an allegory of illusory agency built into
games to give players the illusion of choice, power and control. In fact, we as players are all
Stanley because again and again we willingly or even enthusiastically subject ourselves to the
constraints set by the games we play (Ensslin 67). The many different endings contained within The
Stanley Parable interacts with these relationships in varying

The New Orleans Levee System
On August 29th of 2005, a category 3 hurricane, dubbed Hurricane Katrina, hit the Gulf Coast of
the United States. It brought winds of 100 to 140 miles per hour, and stretched more than 400
miles across. New Orleans had its first mandatory evacuation ordered the day before, while listing
the Superdome as a shelter for those who couldn t leave town. More than 70 percent evacuated,
while the rest stayed at their homes, or took to shelters, to wait out the storm. The aftermath of
Katrina was felt in Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi, but New Orleans was affected the most
by far. In the end, more than 2000 were either seriously injured or killed, while those who
survived were very short on food, water, first aid, and had very few areas for shelter. A large
reason the storm was so devastating was the fact that the storm was able to cover almost 80
percent of the entire city under a large amount of water. Before the storm hit, the city used levee
systems and flood walls to protect itself from being flooded. During the storm, however, many
failures in the levee system caused close to 80 percent of the flooding covering the city and the
nearby parish. Many know that the levee system failed but few in the public know that the major
reason it had failed was because of the incomplete design. The disaster... Show more content on

It is important for any engineer to understand what they are doing, and the consequences that can
occur if they make mistakes or take shortcuts. This case with the levee system is a perfect example
of how engineers need to be aware. It was shown that certain decisions had helped save the
government close to $100 million, but had dramatically dropped durability and reliability of the
system. This shows that, had they been more ethical and self aware, then the Hurricane Katrina
disaster would have been less of a

Soft Release Program
Conservation is the act of preservation of nature, it includes the conservation of animals and their
habitats (Cambridge Dictionary). Animals are being conserved because humans are increasing the
natural rate of extinction, resulting in animals becoming endangered before they would be
naturally (Jowit, 2010). There are many conservation programs dedicated to helping slow down
and reduce the rate of extinction. Some of these programs aim to preserve the natural habitats of
animals and other programs promote the breeding of the animals. All of these programs hope to
increase the population of the animal in the wild. It is vital that the animal goes through these
programs before their release so that they have a chance of surviving in a wild environment.... Show

The program will relocate Devils from Maria island to Wukalina to reinforce the population
there. The most recent project is taking place in may 2017, and is to release the Devil into the
wild and to study how the vaccination affects their immunity to DFTD, the vaccinated devils
will come from the Maria island Devils. The program will also investigate the benefits of a soft
release program and a hard release program and how these affect their chances in the wild. Soft
release programs are believed to be more beneficial for the animal. A soft release program leaves
the animal in its release pen for a time before it is released, this allows it to leave when it likes
and removes pressure on it. A hard release is when the devil is released without spending any time
in its environment. This will also help to understand effective ways to release the Devil. Programs
like this are the groundwork for conservation and is paving the way to an increase in the population
(Tasmanian Government). For a positive future for the Devil it imperative that research programs

Roman Values In William Shakespeare s Julius Caesar
In William Shakespeare s Julius Caesar, great emphasis is placed on what it means to be a good
Roman. Honour, honesty, service, and dignity were among the qualities considered virtuous and
which contributed to a sense of Roman duty. Along with the virtues, Shakespeare also seems to
examine the nature of philosophical Stoicism. The treatment of constancy and Stoicism has many
thematic and moral implications in Julius Caesar. In analysing Brutus supposedly noble character,
Shakespeare calls into question Stoicism s place as a guide for human conduct. Roman values
and their importance to the state play a central role in Julius Caesar. These values are portrayed
as integral to the success of Rome, because the majority of these virtues act in favour of the state.
Each person in Roman society has their own role which is part of a more important collective
whole. Characters in the play seem to identify more with being a citizen or soul of Rome rather
than a unique individual (Shakespeare, 2.1.323). The play emphasizes Rome as an alien society
and analyses the relationship between Rome and the Romans, who see themselves as citizens,
rather than men (Miles, 2). Shakespeare emphasizes the importance of the state over personal
thoughts or feelings: not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more (Shakespeare,
3.2.21 22). Each of the Roman virtues arises out of a sense of duty to put the state over the self.
Following this duty evokes a necessary recognition of

Experimental Theory, State Of The Art, And Economics
The Fischer Tropsch (FT) process is a part of the larger Gas to Liquids technology. The purpose
of the FT process is to convert syngas, which is a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen, to
liquid hydrocarbon fuels. Syngas for FT can be coal, natural gas, or biomass derived, which
opens several pathways for how FT can be industrialized. Since its creation, the FT process has
continuously been researched and commercialized, but it remains an unpopular pathway to obtain
liquid fuels. Ongoing development of the process is primarily due to the value and promise of the
FT products. This paper will give an overview of the FT process with a focus on describing the
process, experimental theory, state of the art, and economics.

[1]
2.1 Reactions and Products
The FT process or FT synthesis is a set of catalytic processes for converting synthesis gas (syngas,
carbon monoxide hydrogen and/or other gases mixture) into liquid hydrocarbons. [2]
The reactions in the FT process are generally described as the following:
Alkanes: (2n + 1)H2 + nCO в‡’ CnH2n+2 + nH2O(1)
Alkenes: 2nH2 + nCO в‡’ CnH2n + nH2O(2)
Oxygenates: 2nH2 + nCO в‡’ CnH2n + 2O + (n 1)H2O(3)
Water Gas Shift: CO + H2O ⇔ CO2 + H2 (4)
The reaction stated before can be achieved with the help provided by the catalysts. The catalysts
that can be used in this process are varied. The preferred catalysts are the metals that have electron
configuration of d7 (although not required) [4]. These includes (1) Fe (Iron) = [Ar] 3d6 4s2, (2)
Co (Cobalt) = [Ar] 3d7 4s2, (3) Ni (Nickel) = [Ar] 4s2 3d8, (4) Mo (Molybdenum) = [Kr] 4d5 5s1,
(5) Ru (Ruthenium) = [Kr] 4d7 5s1. (6) Rh (Rhodium) = [Kr] 4d8 5s1, (7) W (Tungsten) = [Xe]
4f14 5d4 6s2, (8) Other platinum group noble metals. [5]
In real life, catalysts considered for FT synthesis are based on transition metals of iron, cobalt,
nickel and ruthenium. Among these catalysts, it is generally known that nickel (Ni) tends to
promote methane formation, as in a methanation process; thus generally it is not desirable. Iron
(Fe) is relatively low cost and has a higher water gas shift activity, and is therefore more suitable for
a lower hydrogen/carbon monoxide ratio (H2/CO) syngas

Moreover, the mechanistic design is a rational and scientific fundamentals design. This design is
also very flexible and portable for all the pavement design. Furthermore, mechanistic design can
be known as semi empirical in pavement design. For the mechanistic design process, the first
process is about the design traffic (ESA). To design the traffic, traffic loading is the main
parameter to be known. Traffic loading contains four type of design such as seal design,
highway pavement design, airports design, ports and log handling yards. Seal design is using the
equivalent light vehicles, for examples to converts the heavy vehicles to equivalent light vehicles
(ELV). Highway pavement design is using heavy commercial vehicles (HCVs) only and
converted to Equivalent Standard Axles (ESA) but ignore the light vehicles. Airports design only
use the special loading formula. For ports and log handling yards, they are using the 4th power
rule only for converting the loads without using the ESA. The second process is a proposed
pavement model. The pavement model includes the ESA loading and the layers defined by E, v

Gotterdammerug In Blindness
In Blindness, Saramago presents a society in which most of the people go blind, seeing only milky
whiteness, and lose all societal order. Saramago accomplishes to bring to light what a modern
Gotterdammerug, or twilight of gods, would entail in this thought experiment. Throughout the
novel, the plague of blindnessdemonstrates the gradual loss of humanity. Plus, the physical
blindness is not the only blindness explored in this reflection on human nature and the implications
of pseudo apocalyptic situations. The modern day gods are the institutions of government, and the
disappearance of government in Blindness is the modern Gotterdammerug, which forces humanity

In Blindness, this uncertainty in one s fate comes from the absence of control due to the
government s disappearance. The government began to disappear when it started a quarantine in
which soldiers had orders to shoot (Saramago 63). A government is there to help and protect, but
the government, as represented through soldiers at the quarantine, is ready to kill its people. The
government begins to lose its claim to legitimacy as it fails to uphold its own purpose The doctor
observes that their situation is all against the rules of humanity (Saramago 63). However, acting on
such orders would be a different matter, demonstrating that there is no more true government but a
tyranny. The tyranny initially comes about when the car thief came up against the metal plate at
the bottom of the main gate when trying to get help for his leg and the guard on duty heard faint

British Rugby Research Paper
The sport of Rugby has been played by the British and it has been around for almost 200 years. It
started in 1823 and was founded by William Web Ellis. There have been many versions of the
game from the early fifth century to the 16th century. These versions of the game all exist in
small towns like Atherstone in Warwickshire and Alnwick in Northumberland. (Origins of
Rugby). Some early versions had players move animal parts across the field, this was later
outlawed by the local authorizes. The main objective of this game is that players must score
more goals than opposing teams in an 80 minute period. (Rugby Rules) The teams are set up in
groups of 15 players and the field or pitch is set up in three sections. Players usually wear jersey

Reaction Paper On Arrhythnia
The heart is the most complex organ in the human body and without it, the body cannot survive. If
the heart does not respond the way its suppose to, it can cause major health altercations or even
death. As time has progressed, technology has progressed as well. Scientists have discovered many
procedures to help the heartstay in rhythm. Some of the most famous and common procedures
discovered are the pacemaker and heart valve replacement. These procedures have become easier
over time and are the most reliable procedure to keep the heart functioning. Scientist have also
found solutions for arteriosus, which is a defect in the heart that happens right after birth. Doctors
are using pacemakers to send electrical impulses to keep the heart in rhythm, replacing or fixing
defective valves for proper circulation, and surgeries to clamp PDA. These heart procedures are
common and useful.
The pacemaker is a complex device that sends electrical impulses to the heart to keep it in a normal
rhythm. Most of the time doctors implant pacemakers to treat arrhythmias. Arrhythmias are
problems with the rate or rhythm of the heartbeat. During an arrhythmia, the heart can beat too fast,
too slow, or with an irregular rhythm (MedicineNet). Arrhythmia has two different stages and they
re called: bradycardia and tachycardia. Tachycardia is the condition where the heart beats too fast
and bradycardia is the condition where the heart beats too slow. The pacemaker then changes the
defective rhythm

the main ideas perpetuated in AMC s thriller television show The Walking Dead. From the very

further Rick s survival in the zombie infested world. As more characters are introduced, the
majorities are of the white race with a few exceptions; Morgan, his son, and T Dog are African
American. They represent a racial inequality constitutive [...] order while Michonne represents a
progressive move toward equality within the group (Hugey, p 544).
Literature Review Matthew Hughey wrote Cinethetic Racism: White Redemption and Black
Stereotypes in Magical Negro Films in 2009 to dicuss the trend of progressive African American
representation called the magical negro. Hughey examined 26 films to understand race relations
and how mainstream audiences interpret the films. He found that the magical negro are placed in
subservient positions and can reaffirm the status quo by changing contemporary racism rather than
showing evidence of racial progress. This literature piece is used to help describe the relationship
between the majority and minority groups within the film, and

Balance Of Power In International Relations
Balance of power is a key concept in international relations. There are many different arguments
about this concept that disagree on whether or not it causes or disrupts peace in the world. Two
main arguments include those made by realists and liberals. While realist theory holds that a
balance between the major powers will create peace, liberals point to many examples in which
this isn t true. There have been many shifts in world power since the first world war that can
serve as examples of peace compared to types of power in the international system. While no
theory may be completely right, examples from the past century or so seem to prove that
liberalism has the most accurate explanation of balance of power and how it relates to peace in the
world through democracy, norms, and institutions. Because of this, states should not follow the
advice to balance against power, but instead seek peace in different ways such as democratization
to maintain democratic peace. As I stated earlier, balance of power is a very important concept in
international relations. It is a realist theory that can be defined as an arrangement in which
capabilities are fairly evenly distributed among the major actors (Kinsella 79). Basically,
international stability exists when no major power dominates the international system. A balance of
power can exist in multipolar systems by alliances between major powers, and in bipolar systems
by two states matching each other s military capabilities.

Inference Vs Observation Research
Inference Vs. Observation In the science of Psychology, observations and inferences are equally
important. Observation is the act of perceiving, of noticing, of watching something closely. On the
other hand, inference is looking at the evidence in front of you and making a deduction of your
own based on what you see. When somebody observes something or someone they just state the
facts as they appear before their eyes, whereas in inference they reach a conclusion by assuming or
deducting things as well. For example, an observation would be Observation and Inference

Text Messaging Affecting Literacy
Outline
Introduction
Text messaging has become a very popular way to communicate for teenagers and it seems to be
altering the literacy of teens and also affecting the way they speak.
Text messaging has lead to many teenagers to become iliterate. With more teens resorting to texts
and emails to communicate with others the literacy is changing over time.
The impact that text messaging has on literacy of teens is important because the generations will
slowly become more reliant on the texting slang. As the literacy decreases due to the texts and
emails each generation will slowly create a new view of what literacy is.
Literacy is affected by different aspects of texting. The things that effect it include the access
texting gives you to autocorrect, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Teenagers use texting as their main way to communicate which forces away face to face talking
and the requirement of using the correct way to read write and speak.
The way teenagers speak such as saying acronyms in conversations and abbreviations for words out
loud is proof that the grammar used to text is affecting the words we use for communication.
Speaking to people of importance or even just a family friend would require you to have literacy
skills so that they can understand what you are saying but the generations to come may form a new
thought of the requirements of what literacy is.
Conclusion
It is becoming evident that the way teenagers read write and speak is being impacted by the
percentages rising of the numbers of text messages that are being sent by teens daily.
The use of autocorrect that allows teens to not have to know how to correctly spell, cyber slang,
and also the way texting creates a barrier from how they speak are all affecting the literacy that is
needed for

Investigating The Coefficient Of Thermal Conductivity For...
Lab Report
Module Name: Mechanical Principles (ENGD1005)
Experiment Name: Thermal Conductivity
Student P number: P14177341
Lab Tutor : Dr Rick Greenough
Date: 26/11/2014
Objectives of the experiment:
The objective of the experiment was to measure and determine the coefficient of thermal
conductivity for copper and stainless steel.
Background:
Thermal conduction is the transfer of heat energy in a material due to the temperature gradient. It
always takes place from a region of high temperature to a region of low temperature. Heat transfers
at a higher rate across materials that have high thermal conductivity than across materials with low
thermal conductivity. Thermal conductivity is temperature dependant.
Apparatus:
Thermocouple potentiometer
Cussons thermal conductivity apparatus.
Measuring beaker
Procedure:
Firstly before the experiment begins ensure the apparatus has been set up correctly, i.e checking if
all dials are in their correct position. After the apparatus has been set up, what should be done is the
temperatures of the cold water in and hot water out should be noted down, this is done by reading
the temperature gauges on the cussons thermal conductivity apparatus . After temperature of cold
water in and hot water out has been noted you can move onto using the Thermocouple
potentiometer to find the temperature of the water as it is heated through the metals and out of the
metals. This can be done by putting the

Analysis Of The Article Why Women Smile By Amy Cunningham
Syllabus Assignment
For my syllabus assignment, I found a fascinating article titled Why Women Smile by Amy
Cunningham. This is a great piece that looks at how women s emotions are still heavily
influenced by society, whether its suppressing certain emotions or exaggerating false ones. While
this article was written over a decade ago, I feel like the points brought up and the overall message
are still very relevant in todays culture and society.
The author, Amy Cunningham, is a freelance author and editor based out of New York. She
specializes in writing about healthy living, which is what intrigued me as to what drove her to
write this article. To prepare research for this piece, she interviewed and studied psychologist and
facial expression expert Paul Ekman. This article was originally written for a magazine titled Lear
s, which is no longer around but many of her other works have been published in popular
magazines such as Glamour Magazine and The Washington Post s magazine. To date, Cunningham
is still receiving checks from an academic press because of how well the article teaches in college
courses.
In the article, Cunningham brings up many compelling points that help drive her argument on the
reasons as to why women smile. One of the main points she touches on is the biological aspect of
it. She relates it to monkeys and how they use a smile in their environment to show that they are not
going to cause harm to anyone around them and that they are passive. This helps

Problems Associated With Flood Patterns And Poor Water...
Introduction
The River Churn has various issues associated with flood patterns and poor water quality,
affected by continually changing land use patterns. A bi product is the negative impact that poor
water quality has had on ecology. The main aim therefore was to improve the water quality and
biodiversity in order to meet the demands of EU Legislation, during a three year pilot project.
The approach was provided by the WILD Project (Water with Integrated Local Delivery). The
WILD Project was initiated in 2013, by FWAG (The Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group), set
within the Cotswold Water Park (FWAG South West, 2015).
The EU Legislative Body is the Water Framework Directive (WFD) defining a water body as not a
commercial product like any others, but instead a heritage which must be protected, defended and
treated as such (European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, 2000). Under the
Community Water Policy Seminar (1998), the need for Community legislation covering ecological
quality was established. Therefore an integrated Community policy on water was developed, an
area that the WILD Project has incorporated, using an Integrated Local Delivery method integrated
with a Catchment Based Approach . The main objective was achieving the good ecological status
on all surface and groundwater, or in heavily modified sections the river must achieve good
ecological potential (European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, 2000). The

that enable them to develop the characteristics that would enable them to be community leaders,
proud fathers and handy husbands. The prestigious honor to reach the level of Eagle Scout is well

The GSA empowers girls and prepares them for life by promoting a variety of character traits
like courage, compassion and confidence through activities similar to the BSA. The girls can
earn badges by accomplishing tasks that prove they have competency in that skill. The girls also
have a very prestigious achievement called the Gold Award for accomplishing a major goal after
completing the pre requites. We can see that these two nature loving empowerment groups are
very similar so, why then should the girls be joining the boys if they are so similar? The BSA is
selling the idea that it would be more convenient for families to have one program that welcomes
the entire family. It is interesting that the GSA leadership is opposed to this change and reports
that this is a ploy to boost the BSA s falling number of recruits. However, the BSA has had girls in
their Venturing program for a long time, they say this comes from an overwhelming number of
requests from girls to join in participation. If my daughters wanted to join the BSA, I would tell

Smog has been spreading rapidly in China since 2013 with an increased number of haze days,
which seriously affected residents daily life. Smog as an environmental problem has become a
major social concern and the government has promulgated a number of policies and governance
strategies. In June 2013, the State Council carried on the ten air pollution control measures and
strived to practice the code of conduct share breath and struggle . Subsequently, the State Council

implementation details of air pollution control action plan and other documents. The introduction
of these policies not only indicates that China urgently needs to solve the haze problem, but also
shows Chinese government s determination of environmental pollution control. China increases
efforts to solve the air pollution including haze problem, and there are some results. However,
consecutive smoggy skies and continuous spread across the country also show that for China air
pollution governance will be a long battle.
If we want to govern the smoggy sky, we need to know what the smog is at first. Smog is a type of

always has considered himself, which is below average. When Wesley was in training he got beat
up by multiple people in the fraternity, in an attempt to make him physically strong to stand
anything. He learned tasks including fighting, knife work, and also how to curve a bullet. When he

Third Grade Classroom Observation
For my observation, I observed a first to third grade special day class at a public Fresno Unified
School District classroom in Fresno, California. When I first entered the classroom all the students,
approximately 10 students, were sitting down on the rug in front of the class as the teacher was
reading a short story to them. When she finished they would go over their reading assignment.
For the first half an hour, I could see that the students in the back had a difficult time sitting still in
the crisscross position on the rug. One student would frequently stand up on his knees, lie down on
the rug, or spin himself in a circle. During this time I noticed that most of the students who also sat
in the back row on the rug was talking to their peers, while one student stayed quiet and entertained
himself with hyperactivity movements, sucking on his thumb, or playing with his shoelaces. When
the teacher finishes her explanation of the butterfly life cycle, a student quietly raised his hand and
asks her if he would be able to create a human life cycle instead.

The New Developments Of Nuclear Reactor Technology And...
Unquestionably, the energy security is of great importance in order to maintain and sustain the
development of any growing economy. Therefore, this work will overview the new developments
in nuclear reactor technology and their importance as a safe and base load energy alternative.
Mainly, the focus will be on the Generation III (GIII), Generation IV (GIV) reactors and Small
Modular Reactors (SMRs) and their safety and efficiency capabilities. A comparison will be held
between the nuclear, solar and wind energy sources in terms of their reliability, safety, costs and
infrastructural requirements.
The energy industry faces various challenges such as the environmental consequences and climate
change, limited fossil fuel resources and the instability in its prices. Therefore, a clean and reliable
energy mix is required in order to meet these challenges. In order to meet these challenges, there is
no one energy source that can be up to all the challenges simultaneously, therefore; an energy mix is
required.
Each energy source has certain advantages and suffers certain disadvantages for example while
nuclear energy is a reliable source of base load energy, often, the safety aspect is considered the
most important obstacle that prevents most countries from implementing nuclear power plants into
their energy mix. However, recent developments in reactor technology might encourage
reconsidering the nuclear energy as an important and relatively safe component in the energy mix.

The use of amphetamines dates back to World War II when Adolf Hitler would dose his soldiers
with the drug in order to keep them going all day and night with little need for nourishment or

speed. Hitler himself would get injected with amphetamines up to 5 times a day. It is believed that
his mad rants were due to his drug addiction. Japanese soldiers also used amphetamines during the

In those days ancient Babylonians called it the joy plant . They would drink the sap or dry it
into cakes of opium to eat in order to enhance the pleasure of sex. Alexander the Great gave it to
his soldiers to relieve the pain in their feet from the endless walking. It would also help them
sleep through the moaning of the wounded and dying, this made for a more effective army.
Alexander and his army carried the poppy with them to India where it flourished in the climate
and became even more potent. Eating the sap from the poppy is very effective as a pain
suppressant and but also induces joy into the brains neural centers. It controls digestion, body
temperature, and breathing but the withdrawal from prolonged use is painful. It was the discovery
of tobacco in the New World by Christopher Columbus in 1842 that would offer a new way to

Genetic Modifications
The author then interviews a farmer who has transitioned from conventional farming to genetic
modifications. Using GMOs seems promising as it seems like the answer to cost and environmental
issues. However, using genetic modifications leads to an uncharted territory with many unknowns.
FDA classifies it as a pesticide because Bt is injected into the Agrobacterium payload, and then the

The English Church Exposed in Canterbury Tales Essay
The 14th Century is a time in which the power of the English Church started to vanish because of
multiple reasons. And Geoffrey Chaucer s greatest work, the Canterbury Tales, can be a good
evidence of the profligacy and immorality of the England Church at that time. In this magnificent
piece of English literature, Chaucer expresses both his disappointment and admiration for the
England Church through many different Church pilgrims form high social class to common people.
By his description about the living qualities and moral standards of the various Church people, we
can see that Chaucer thinks the English Church is a greedy institution where money comes before
religion. And the Churchmen s lavish personal lives indicate that most of the... Show more content

And from the clothes the descriptions of the Churchmen s physical appearance and their
possessions, we can tell most of their life styles are extremely lavish. The monk is very tan,
because he spent a lot of time outside and only men were wealthy can afford to relax or hunt
outside. He also owns a lot of horses, which is another sign of wealth. And the nun has very good
clothes and rosary. But the parson, who is opposite whom from most the Church people and really
preaches and teaches, is the only one who is in poverty. So it is obvious that Chaucer thinks the
Church doesn t appreciate those who are truly dedicated to Christianity but gives the special
privileges to those who have power and greed. Maybe because of the general voracious
circumstance of the Church, most of the Churchmen in Chaucer s Tale are not holy or even moral
in life. They put the traditional Christian rules behind and do things that are clearly forbidden in
either Bible or in St. Benedict. The monk, as an example, thinks hunting and eating are the biggest
fun in life. Hunters are considered unholy men because of they take killing as entrainment and
pleasure. But the monk ignores that rule and even wants to convince other people to think that
hunting is a holy thing. His lavish life is nowhere near the abstemious life style that is required in
St. Benedict. Unfortunaly the monk is not the only one ignores the rules of Christianity.

Big Business and The Robber Barons Essay
The decades after the Civil War rapidly changed the face of the United States. The rapid
industrialization of the nation changed us from generally agrarian to the top industrial power in the
world. Business tycoons thrived during this time, forging great business empires with the use of
trusts and pools. Farmers moved to the cities and into the factories, living off wages and changing
the face of the workforce. This rapid industrialization created wide gaps in society, and the
government, which had originally taken a hands off approach to business, was forced to step in.
Many individuals took advantage of the rapid industrialization and high influx of cheap labor in the
form of immigrants. Among these entrepreneurs were John D.... Show more content on

Cornelius Vanderbilt was a steamship and railroad tycoon. He made millions in the steamship
business before turning to the promising railroad industry. He began to take capital from the
steamship business to buy railroads, starting with the New York and Harlem Railroad in 1862.
Vanderbilt eventually amassed over $100 million from his railroad empire and his wealth and
power was virtually untouchable. He was a ruthless businessman, once saying to a competitor
You have undertaken to cheat me. I won t sue you, for the law is too slow. I will ruin you. His
New York Central rail line operated from New York to Chicago along more than 4,500 miles of

creating his own factory town of Pullman, Chicago. With the massive success of the railroads,
Pullman made a fortune producing his luxury sleeping cars. He is well known for suppressing his
striking workers in Pullman. When a depression struck the country, he slashed wages the wages of
his workers while keeping the wages of his associates and the price of living the same. This created
uproar and led to a strike amongst his workers, eventually backed by Eugene Debs American
Railway Union. The strike was violently put down, showing that labor unions had little power to
negotiate. These five industrialists and entrepreneurs took advantage of the industrializing America

Callicles Vs Socrates
In Gorgias, Plato presents a series of conversations Socrates has with Gorgias and Callicles that
explore oratory and the rules of law and nature. Socrates criticism of oratory and espousement of
the rule of law imply a dislike for democracy, but for different reasons than Callicles dislike.
Through these conversations, Platosuggests that democracyis actually a rule of nature with orators
as the superiors. Socratesand Callicles converse about the rule of law and the rule of nature
because Callicles wants Socrates to talk only about one, especially the rule of nature. Callicles has
a problem with the way Socrates spoke with Polus and accuses him of grandstanding in ... speeches

As stated before, Callicles believes the people who institute ... laws are the weak and many and
that it s a just thing for the better man and the more capable man to have a greater share than the
worse man and the less capable man (483b, 483d). He wishes for a society where the better
deserve to have more and do get more than what the lesser get. Thus, he hates democracy. He
believes democracy would take away from those who deserve more and would give the lesser
more power than needed. Socrates, on the other hand, fears the power of orators over
uneducated masses. Socrates makes clear from Gorgias that oratory doesn t need to have any
knowledge of the state of their subject matters and that it only needs to have discovered a
persuasion device to make itself appear to those who don t have any knowledge that it knows
more than those who actually do have it (459c). Socrates is concerned that the public can be
convinced by orators to do things that orators have no knowledge of. Socrates wants people s
soul to stay pure and avoid corruption. However, if people listen to an orator in a democracy and
do something unjust, they would have no punishment because they would be the ones who agreed
upon the action. Thus, Socrates favors when the masses listen to someone who knows what is just.
For Socrates, democracy can be arbitrary based on the whims of orators and what they see fit

The Role Celebricities Play in Peoples Life
Today public figures such as celebrities are looked up to by people of all ages. Often viewed as
role models, celebrities appear on television with the entire world watching, and are known for
their wealth, talent and fame. A role model is defined as A person who serves as an example of
the values, attitudes, and behaviors associated with a role. ( Role model. Definition 1. Web).
Whether celebrities enjoy being in the spotlight or not, they are looked up to by millions of
people around the world and thus have a social obligation to behave well. Such role models have
an effect on the lives of people in society as they have the ability to shape the views, ideas, and
actions of their fans. It is important for celebrities to be positive and responsible in displaying
good morals and values because many individuals are dependent on the media role models of
today. Because of the large role celebrities play in society they should be obligated to be positive
and influential role models. Many individuals would argue that in celebrities private lives, they
should not have to act as a positive influential role, as they are out of the spotlight. After all it is
their private life, so technically it should be no one s concern what they do in their free time.
However, before people become celebrities, they are aware of the little to no privacy they are
going to receive from the public. This is one of the unfortunate disadvantages of being famous. With

Aid For The United States
Aid is defined as a voluntary transfer of resources from one government to another independent
government, but to what extent should a country help. It is known that aid can be in the form of
debt, food, or cash. Often in today s world population many people agree or disagree with
helping countries receive aid. The ones who don t agree think that by giving a country aid, it
makes them lazier and gives them no incentive. It also creates a corrupt government. But to the
ones who do agree they think that by giving aid it helps a country in becoming stable more
democratic. But with the amount given to these countries year after year, you sometimes begin to
question government funding. How do most political officials decide which country should
receive aid, when each country is different. The United States for example has used aid as a
political tool to keep political interest in certain countries, but has it been effective. The article
who gives foreign aid to whom and why? written by Alberto Alesina and David Dollar shows five
major donor countries. Both authors for example state that the United States gives aid based on
political interest specifically to the Middle East, the article also states that Benefits of foreign aid
have recently been under severe scrutiny. Several observers argue that a large portion of foreign aid
flow from developed to developing countries is wasted and increases unproductive public
consumption. Poor institutional development, corruption,

  • 3. Conflict Management Style With Others Conflict Management Style When considering your conflict management style with others, be it; personal or professional, we tend to use the style that seems appropriate to the conflict. Managing conflict is a difficult task that we all face during our life time, but becoming aware of your own characteristic style could help determine why conflicts result exactly the way they do. It helps determine what is a healthy outcome, or not? Each circumstance is different! Interpersonal conflict is very common with many relationships. It occurs when two people can not meet in the middle or agree on a discussion. Cooperation is key to maintaining a healthy debate. More frequently; when dealing with members of your own family, issues arise that include conflict and resolution. During this process our true conflict management style appears out of thin air . (Steve A. Beebe, 2008, p. 191). Our behavior or conflict style tells a lot about us as humans. It is an important piece of life s puzzles, and how we go about living a healthy life. Our particular path decides where conflict will lead to, or if it could be resolved quickly with everyone feeling content. However, our non verbal behavior could indicate when a person is upset or anoid. This is usually related to unmet needs or goals (Steve A. Beebe, 2008, p. 191). I participated in a conflict management style quiz that was created by Reginald Adkins to see what style I followed. The style that I tend to follow is Harmonizing. ... • 4. The Three Branches Of Government Essay The Three Branches of Government In 1787 the leaders of the united states gathered to write the constitution which they also divided into three branches to ensure a central government in which no group or individual gains too much control. The three branches consists on the following Legislative, Executive, and Judicial. Legislative branch rejects or confirms presidential appointments, and also has the authority to declare war. The power of the Executive branch is to carry out and enforce laws. It includes the president, the vice president, the cabinet, independent agencies, executive departments, commissions, committees, and other boards. The last branch that is the Judicial branch interprets the meaning of laws, decides if laws violate the constitution, and applies laws to individual cases. Article I of the United StatesConstitution created and empowered our legislative branch of government. The legislative branch is made up of the two houses of congress the Senate and the House of Representatives. As I mention on the introduction the most important duty of the legislative branch is to make laws. The laws are written, discussed, and voted in the congress. There are 100 senators in the Senate, two from each state. Senators are elected by their states and serve six year terms. The Vice President ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Tehran Inequality Inequality has occurred in history for many years. Some examples of inequality demonstrate a superior race like slavery in the United States and apartheid in South Africa or others have a superior gender like women in Iran and Pakistan. Either way there was one group that had more power over the other which resulted in the minority demanding their freedom back. Inequality occurred in the United States from 1619 1863. During this time, white Americans bought and traded African Americans as slaves. Although President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation in 1862, inequality between blacks and whites persisted. It wasn t until the civil rights movement in the 1950s and 60s that inequality finally ended. Blacks have fought hard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In these countries women were under strict rule and given little to no rights outside their homes. Azar Nafisi describes the hardships of being a woman in Iran during this time in her memoir titled, Reading Lolita in Tehran . In this memoir it states, It is in her best interest not to be seen, not be heard or noticed. She doesn t walk upright, but bends her head towards the ground and doesn t look at passersby. (Nafisi 82). This shows that women were nervous to be seen by the men who had all of the power. They were in fact afraid of being seen. In the book I Am Malala by women rights advocate Malala Yousafzai she tells her life story. She begins in her childhood where she started to see the inequality enforced by the Taliban. As she grows up she starts to see her rights be taken from her like her right to an education. She realized the unjust inequality all around her. She began to tell of her experiences and speak out against the Taliban for her right to be educated. (Yousafzai) Malala was one of few who spoke out because the others were afraid of the punishments. She and other passionate women have demanded their rights back from the dominant men. They no longer could tolerate the inequality and wanted it to end. • 6. Analysis Of The Stanley The Stanley Parable The Stanley Parable (2013) was a game released to widespread acclaim about a man named Stanley, whose coworkers mysteriously disappear from the office and whose actions and choices are subsequently voiced by a narrator. While at first the game might seem simple and ordinary, the longer spent in the gamethe more complex the narrativeis revealed to be. The game satirizes a lot of conventions and narrative tropes used throughout the games industry, as well as commenting on other facets tied heavily to the games medium, like hacks, bugs, and even gameplay. While that might not be special in itself, what makes The Stanley Parable stand out is how it goes about commenting on these things. By having the player control Stanley and have all their actions chronicled by the narrator, the game has created these three distinct entities: The player, Stanley and the narrator. The relationship between these three is the primary way the game is able to explore certain themes such as player agency, and how much choice matters. According to Astrid Ensslin, As players we are made to read [the game] as an allegory of illusory agency built into games to give players the illusion of choice, power and control. In fact, we as players are all Stanley because again and again we willingly or even enthusiastically subject ourselves to the constraints set by the games we play (Ensslin 67). The many different endings contained within The Stanley Parable interacts with these relationships in varying ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The New Orleans Levee System On August 29th of 2005, a category 3 hurricane, dubbed Hurricane Katrina, hit the Gulf Coast of the United States. It brought winds of 100 to 140 miles per hour, and stretched more than 400 miles across. New Orleans had its first mandatory evacuation ordered the day before, while listing the Superdome as a shelter for those who couldn t leave town. More than 70 percent evacuated, while the rest stayed at their homes, or took to shelters, to wait out the storm. The aftermath of Katrina was felt in Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi, but New Orleans was affected the most by far. In the end, more than 2000 were either seriously injured or killed, while those who survived were very short on food, water, first aid, and had very few areas for shelter. A large reason the storm was so devastating was the fact that the storm was able to cover almost 80 percent of the entire city under a large amount of water. Before the storm hit, the city used levee systems and flood walls to protect itself from being flooded. During the storm, however, many failures in the levee system caused close to 80 percent of the flooding covering the city and the nearby parish. Many know that the levee system failed but few in the public know that the major reason it had failed was because of the incomplete design. The disaster... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This case with the levee system is a perfect example of how engineers need to be aware. • 8. Soft Release Program Conservation is the act of preservation of nature, it includes the conservation of animals and their habitats (Cambridge Dictionary). Animals are being conserved because humans are increasing the natural rate of extinction, resulting in animals becoming endangered before they would be naturally (Jowit, 2010). There are many conservation programs dedicated to helping slow down and reduce the rate of extinction. Some of these programs aim to preserve the natural habitats of animals and other programs promote the breeding of the animals. All of these programs hope to increase the population of the animal in the wild. It is vital that the animal goes through these programs before their release so that they have a chance of surviving in a wild environment.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The program will also investigate the benefits of a soft release program and a hard release program and how these affect their chances in the wild. Soft release programs are believed to be more beneficial for the animal. A soft release program leaves the animal in its release pen for a time before it is released, this allows it to leave when it likes and removes pressure on it. A hard release is when the devil is released without spending any time in its environment. This will also help to understand effective ways to release the Devil. Programs like this are the groundwork for conservation and is paving the way to an increase in the population (Tasmanian Government). • 9. Roman Values In William Shakespeare s Julius Caesar In William Shakespeare s Julius Caesar, great emphasis is placed on what it means to be a good Roman. Honour, honesty, service, and dignity were among the qualities considered virtuous and which contributed to a sense of Roman duty. Along with the virtues, Shakespeare also seems to examine the nature of philosophical Stoicism. The treatment of constancy and Stoicism has many thematic and moral implications in Julius Caesar. In analysing Brutus supposedly noble character, Shakespeare calls into question Stoicism s place as a guide for human conduct. Roman values and their importance to the state play a central role in Julius Caesar. These values are portrayed as integral to the success of Rome, because the majority of these virtues act in favour of the state. Each person in Roman society has their own role which is part of a more important collective whole. Characters in the play seem to identify more with being a citizen or soul of Rome rather than a unique individual (Shakespeare, 2.1.323). The play emphasizes Rome as an alien society and analyses the relationship between Rome and the Romans, who see themselves as citizens, rather than men (Miles, 2). Shakespeare emphasizes the importance of the state over personal thoughts or feelings: not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more (Shakespeare, 3.2.21 22). Each of the Roman virtues arises out of a sense of duty to put the state over the self. Following this duty evokes a necessary recognition of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The purpose of the FT process is to convert syngas, which is a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen, to liquid hydrocarbon fuels. Syngas for FT can be coal, natural gas, or biomass derived, which opens several pathways for how FT can be industrialized. Since its creation, the FT process has continuously been researched and commercialized, but it remains an unpopular pathway to obtain liquid fuels. Ongoing development of the process is primarily due to the value and promise of the FT products. This paper will give an overview of the FT process with a focus on describing the process, experimental theory, state of the art, and economics. 2. Process ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [1] 2.1 Reactions and Products The FT process or FT synthesis is a set of catalytic processes for converting synthesis gas (syngas, carbon monoxide hydrogen and/or other gases mixture) into liquid hydrocarbons. [2] The reactions in the FT process are generally described as the following: Alkanes: (2n + 1)H2 + nCO в‡’ CnH2n+2 + nH2O(1) Alkenes: 2nH2 + nCO в‡’ CnH2n + nH2O(2) Oxygenates: 2nH2 + nCO в‡’ CnH2n + 2O + (n 1)H2O(3) Water Gas Shift: CO + H2O ⇔ CO2 + H2 (4) The reaction stated before can be achieved with the help provided by the catalysts. The catalysts that can be used in this process are varied. The preferred catalysts are the metals that have electron configuration of d7 (although not required) [4]. These includes (1) Fe (Iron) = [Ar] 3d6 4s2, (2) Co (Cobalt) = [Ar] 3d7 4s2, (3) Ni (Nickel) = [Ar] 4s2 3d8, (4) Mo (Molybdenum) = [Kr] 4d5 5s1, (5) Ru (Ruthenium) = [Kr] 4d7 5s1. (6) Rh (Rhodium) = [Kr] 4d8 5s1, (7) W (Tungsten) = [Xe] 4f14 5d4 6s2, (8) Other platinum group noble metals. [5] In real life, catalysts considered for FT synthesis are based on transition metals of iron, cobalt, nickel and ruthenium. Among these catalysts, it is generally known that nickel (Ni) tends to promote methane formation, as in a methanation process; thus generally it is not desirable. Iron (Fe) is relatively low cost and has a higher water gas shift activity, and is therefore more suitable for a lower hydrogen/carbon monoxide ratio (H2/CO) syngas ... • 19. Reaction Paper On Arrhythnia The heart is the most complex organ in the human body and without it, the body cannot survive. If the heart does not respond the way its suppose to, it can cause major health altercations or even death. As time has progressed, technology has progressed as well. Scientists have discovered many procedures to help the heartstay in rhythm. Some of the most famous and common procedures discovered are the pacemaker and heart valve replacement. These procedures have become easier over time and are the most reliable procedure to keep the heart functioning. Scientist have also found solutions for arteriosus, which is a defect in the heart that happens right after birth. Doctors are using pacemakers to send electrical impulses to keep the heart in rhythm, replacing or fixing defective valves for proper circulation, and surgeries to clamp PDA. These heart procedures are common and useful. The pacemaker is a complex device that sends electrical impulses to the heart to keep it in a normal rhythm. Most of the time doctors implant pacemakers to treat arrhythmias. Arrhythmias are problems with the rate or rhythm of the heartbeat. During an arrhythmia, the heart can beat too fast, too slow, or with an irregular rhythm (MedicineNet). Arrhythmia has two different stages and they re called: bradycardia and tachycardia. Tachycardia is the condition where the heart beats too fast and bradycardia is the condition where the heart beats too slow. The pacemaker then changes the defective rhythm ... • 20. Minority Trope Representation in AMC’s The Walking Dead Essay The Walking Dead is a television show produced by AMC based off the black and white comic books by Robert Kirkman. The show and comic book center around main character Rick Grimes as he learns to cope with life after waking up from a deadly wound into an outbreak of virus wielding undead creatures known as walkers. Over the course of season two and season three, the show starts to center around how Rick is able to command the group of survivors and the challenges they face trying to settle down in a safe area. They are confronted with another community nearby late in season three along with the increasing number of walkers in the area. Usually, they are forgotten or killed off and labeled with the mental occupational hazard trope. This trope proves that once a minority has served their purpose, they are no longer needed to help the group survive any longer and the main character forgets about the minority (tvtrope.org). These are the main ideas perpetuated in AMC s thriller television show The Walking Dead. From the very beginning, the show portrayed minorities as nothing more than the magical negro helping to further Rick s survival in the zombie infested world. As more characters are introduced, the majorities are of the white race with a few exceptions; Morgan, his son, and T Dog are African American. They represent a racial inequality constitutive [...] order while Michonne represents a progressive move toward equality within the group (Hugey, p 544). Literature Review Matthew Hughey wrote Cinethetic Racism: White Redemption and Black Stereotypes in Magical Negro Films in 2009 to dicuss the trend of progressive African American representation called the magical negro. Hughey examined 26 films to understand race relations and how mainstream audiences interpret the films. • 21. Balance Of Power In International Relations Balance of power is a key concept in international relations. There are many different arguments about this concept that disagree on whether or not it causes or disrupts peace in the world. Two main arguments include those made by realists and liberals. While realist theory holds that a balance between the major powers will create peace, liberals point to many examples in which this isn t true. There have been many shifts in world power since the first world war that can serve as examples of peace compared to types of power in the international system. While no theory may be completely right, examples from the past century or so seem to prove that liberalism has the most accurate explanation of balance of power and how it relates to peace in the world through democracy, norms, and institutions. Because of this, states should not follow the advice to balance against power, but instead seek peace in different ways such as democratization to maintain democratic peace. As I stated earlier, balance of power is a very important concept in international relations. It is a realist theory that can be defined as an arrangement in which capabilities are fairly evenly distributed among the major actors (Kinsella 79). Basically, international stability exists when no major power dominates the international system. A balance of power can exist in multipolar systems by alliances between major powers, and in bipolar systems by two states matching each other s military capabilities. ... When somebody observes something or someone they just state the facts as they appear before their eyes, whereas in inference they reach a conclusion by assuming or deducting things as well. This is a great piece that looks at how women s emotions are still heavily influenced by society, whether its suppressing certain emotions or exaggerating false ones. While this article was written over a decade ago, I feel like the points brought up and the overall message are still very relevant in todays culture and society. The author, Amy Cunningham, is a freelance author and editor based out of New York. She specializes in writing about healthy living, which is what intrigued me as to what drove her to write this article. To prepare research for this piece, she interviewed and studied psychologist and facial expression expert Paul Ekman. This article was originally written for a magazine titled Lear s, which is no longer around but many of her other works have been published in popular magazines such as Glamour Magazine and The Washington Post s magazine. To date, Cunningham is still receiving checks from an academic press because of how well the article teaches in college courses. In the article, Cunningham brings up many compelling points that help drive her argument on the reasons as to why women smile. One of the main points she touches on is the biological aspect of it. She relates it to monkeys and how they use a smile in their environment to show that they are not going to cause harm to anyone around them and that they are passive. This helps ... • 28. Problems Associated With Flood Patterns And Poor Water... Introduction The River Churn has various issues associated with flood patterns and poor water quality, affected by continually changing land use patterns. A bi product is the negative impact that poor water quality has had on ecology. The main aim therefore was to improve the water quality and biodiversity in order to meet the demands of EU Legislation, during a three year pilot project. The approach was provided by the WILD Project (Water with Integrated Local Delivery). The WILD Project was initiated in 2013, by FWAG (The Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group), set within the Cotswold Water Park (FWAG South West, 2015). The EU Legislative Body is the Water Framework Directive (WFD) defining a water body as not a commercial product like any others, but instead a heritage which must be protected, defended and treated as such (European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, 2000). Under the Community Water Policy Seminar (1998), the need for Community legislation covering ecological quality was established. Therefore an integrated Community policy on water was developed, an area that the WILD Project has incorporated, using an Integrated Local Delivery method integrated with a Catchment Based Approach . The main objective was achieving the good ecological status on all surface and groundwater, or in heavily modified sections the river must achieve good ecological potential (European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, 2000). • 42. The English Church Exposed in Canterbury Tales Essay The 14th Century is a time in which the power of the English Church started to vanish because of multiple reasons. And Geoffrey Chaucer s greatest work, the Canterbury Tales, can be a good evidence of the profligacy and immorality of the England Church at that time. In this magnificent piece of English literature, Chaucer expresses both his disappointment and admiration for the England Church through many different Church pilgrims form high social class to common people. By his description about the living qualities and moral standards of the various Church people, we can see that Chaucer thinks the English Church is a greedy institution where money comes before religion. And the Churchmen s lavish personal lives indicate that most of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And from the clothes the descriptions of the Churchmen s physical appearance and their possessions, we can tell most of their life styles are extremely lavish. The monk is very tan, because he spent a lot of time outside and only men were wealthy can afford to relax or hunt outside. He also owns a lot of horses, which is another sign of wealth. And the nun has very good clothes and rosary. But the parson, who is opposite whom from most the Church people and really preaches and teaches, is the only one who is in poverty. So it is obvious that Chaucer thinks the Church doesn t appreciate those who are truly dedicated to Christianity but gives the special privileges to those who have power and greed. Maybe because of the general voracious circumstance of the Church, most of the Churchmen in Chaucer s Tale are not holy or even moral in life. They put the traditional Christian rules behind and do things that are clearly forbidden in either Bible or in St. Benedict. The monk, as an example, thinks hunting and eating are the biggest fun in life. Hunters are considered unholy men because of they take killing as entrainment and pleasure. But the monk ignores that rule and even wants to convince other people to think that hunting is a holy thing. His lavish life is nowhere near the abstemious life style that is required in St. Benedict. Unfortunaly the monk is not the only one ignores the rules of Christianity. ... Through these conversations, Platosuggests that democracyis actually a rule of nature with orators as the superiors. As stated before, Callicles believes the people who institute ... laws are the weak and many and that it s a just thing for the better man and the more capable man to have a greater share than the worse man and the less capable man (483b, 483d). He wishes for a society where the better deserve to have more and do get more than what the lesser get. Thus, he hates democracy. He believes democracy would take away from those who deserve more and would give the lesser more power than needed. Socrates, on the other hand, fears the power of orators over uneducated masses. Socrates makes clear from Gorgias that oratory doesn t need to have any knowledge of the state of their subject matters and that it only needs to have discovered a persuasion device to make itself appear to those who don t have any knowledge that it knows more than those who actually do have it (459c). Socrates is concerned that the public can be convinced by orators to do things that orators have no knowledge of. Socrates wants people s soul to stay pure and avoid corruption. However, if people listen to an orator in a democracy and do something unjust, they would have no punishment because they would be the ones who agreed upon the action. Thus, Socrates favors when the masses listen to someone who knows what is just. For Socrates, democracy can be arbitrary based on the whims of orators and what they see fit ending up in ...
