Anger Management Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of anger management is a challenging endeavor that demands a
delicate balance of psychological insight, research proficiency, and effective communication
skills. The complexity arises from the multifaceted nature of anger, encompassing psychological,
physiological, and social dimensions. Tackling this topic requires a nuanced understanding of
human behavior, emotion regulation, and the various therapeutic approaches available.
To start, one must delve into the intricate web of causes and triggers that can lead to anger.
Whether rooted in personal experiences, societal pressures, or biological factors, comprehending
the origins of anger is fundamental. Additionally, exploring the impact of uncontrolled anger on
mental health, relationships, and overall well-being adds another layer of intricacy to the essay.
The essay should not merely scratch the surface but delve into the myriad strategies and
techniques for managing anger. This involves exploring cognitive-behavioral interventions,
mindfulness practices, and therapeutic modalities. The writer must navigate through the diverse
perspectives on anger management, considering cultural variations and individual differences.
Moreover, substantiating the narrative with empirical evidence and scholarly sources becomes
imperative. Citing reputable studies, psychological theories, and real-life examples will enhance
the essay's credibility and depth. This, however, demands meticulous research skills and critical
thinking to sift through a vast body of literature.
Furthermore, the writer must maintain a tone that is both empathetic and informative. Balancing

Broken Relationship Between The Colonists And The
British...
The Road to Independence
Throughout the colonial period, relationships between the colonists and the British
Empire continued to deteriorate. Taxation was mostly seen as being harmful for the
American society but on the other hand beneficial to the crown. Tired of not being
considered in matters that were critical to their daily life, colonists decided to prepare
and submit their declaration of Independence to the British Empire. There were 27
remarks pointed out where the King completely ignored Americans rights and votes.
It was not until July 4th, 1776 when Great Britain finally recognized the United States
of America as an independent nation granting the power to the colonists to govern
themselves.

Samuel Colt
The Legend of Samuel Colt
Who was Samuel Colt? He was a legendary inventor from Hartford, Connecticut
that helped revolutionize the way the world produced firearms. Colt was born to a
family of farmers, his father Christopher Colt was a farmer, however he later
stopped farming and became a business man. Meanwhile Colt s mother Sarah Colt
passed when he was just six years old. His father remarried two years later and
overall there would be six siblings in the Colt family. Despite being part of a big
family Samuel Colt was destined to become successful and stand out above his other
siblings. Colt began to engineer when he was very young. This was because his
father had a silk mill factory in Massachusetts. His father Christopher trained ... Show

Because of Colt s inventions and his company s contributions to the Nation the
Union Army managed to have advanced revolvers during the war. Overall Its
output for the entire Civil War period totaled 378,000 revolvers and 114,000
muskets (Grant, 1982). The role that his company played in producing firearms for
the Union Army placed Colt as a historic figure in American history. Today Samuel
Colt is looked at as the man who revolutionized the firearm industry and the man
who created the first mass producing firearms company in the world. He was
recently honored in 2006 as he was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
With manufacturing moving overseas in the past several decades and America
currently having a trade deficit it would be difficult for Hartford to redevelop itself as
one of the most important manufacturing cities in America. On the contrary, Hartford
can use its past to place itself as one of the most important manufacturing cities in
America. For instance, it can argue the fact that Colt came up with the idea of mass
production and started running his business out of Hartford, that it was the city of
Hartford who was the first to place itself as an industrial city in America. As the
United States also faces challenges in regaining some of its success in the past back
in manufacturing, it must end the habit of companies shipping all of the
manufacturing jobs overseas and restore the

Panic attack
The purpose of this assignment is to allow my reflection on a clinical experience
conducted as a student paramedic. This experience is in regards to dealing with
adolescent experiencing a panic attack (PA). PA lie under two conditions.
National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) defines Panic disorder as
characterized by recurring, unforeseen panic attacks followed by at least 1 month of
persistent worry about having another attack and concern about its consequences, or a
significant change in behavior related to panic attacks.
NICE defines generalised anxiety disorder a common disorder of which the central
feature is excessive worry about a number of different events associated with
heightened tension.
Using Gibbs 1988 model of reflection (see appendix 1) I will evaluate the incident
and how this experience has improved my understanding of treatment options.
This model has been chosen as it focuses on feelings which have been shown to
involve a deeper level of learning (Wills 2010:213) and allows a structured
framework. I will reflect evaluate upon my strengths and weakness in approach to
adolescent panic attack.
Reflection is a process that enables practitioners to gain a deeper understanding of
their experiences with patients to move towards more mindful and effective practice
(Johns 2005).
In accordance with the HCPC (2016) code of conduct, the patient will be given the

The Ford Motor Company And General Motors
The largest contributor to Canada s Gross Domestic Product is Canada s largest
manufacturing employer (Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers Association, 2011), but
how has this sector surpassed all other industries? and how has this sector survived all
the economic destructions riddled throughout Canada s history? This is the Canadian
automotive industryand it is enormous and powerful yet so threatened by politics.
Two of the largest players in the automotive industry are the Ford Motor Company
and General Motors. By comparing the two paths both parallel companies have taken
throughout over one hundred years of operations (Dykes, 2015), we can expose
proper and improper business strategies within Canada. We can adventure through the
strengths built up by management, the weaknesses that have attacked through the
inside, the potential opportunities forecasted to arise, and the threats that may enforce
themselves towards these industrial giants. From this we may be able to gather just
what it takes to survive the Canadian market. The Ford Motor company was founded
in Windsor Ontario in 1904 and initiated the commercialization of the automotive
industry in Canada (Dykes, 2015). Four years later in 1908 General Motors was
founded by Colonel R.S. Mclaughlin. The government of Canada had placed tariffs,
long before the invention of the working combustion engine, on carriages entering
Canada (Melandon, 2009). This in turn forced entrepreneurs like Mclaughlin to

The Role of Language in Creating and Reinforcing Social Distinctions Such as Class,
Ethnicity, and Gender
It is said in a myth that people were once trying to build a giant latter to heaven so
God made them all diverse by making portions of the people look different and speak
different language. The now diverse people of earth felt annoyed and human nature
took its ugly toll and separation and distinctions were made, they all scatter
throughout the world. God did this so that the people would not be able to
communicate therefore not be able to build the great ladder that was threatening
heaven. This myth is probably not the truth but it does have a purpose in showing

It is said that America is the most diverse country in the world; ironically it is also
the most prominent. It is ironic because it is expected that with diverse people in
one place they will want to seclude themselves but in the US; it shows that when
there is a similar connection, such as language, between the people then they can
unite and be great. The reason I mentioned that language doesn t stop dividing
people is because even within a certain type of people there is still seclusion that is
caused by language. The invisible oblige of language is so visible that there are
many jokes between Americans about language that distinct types of American
groups. Person A might say what s up bra , while person B says wut up hommie ,
while person C says how are you doing . Many people will be able to tell what kind
of people are A, B, and C just by hearing how they ask someone how they are doing.
Person B could be perceived to be a gangster. This is why I mentioned that it never
stops dividing people. The gangster can now be deciphered into an even more
specified type of people with other types of gangster talk with the same meaning.
Person A says wut up hommie , person B says sup cuz , person C says wuts
crackalakin . Now all of those gangster responses can be put into their own respected
categories of types of gangster. Person A is most likely Mexican,

Tesco Reputation Management Case Study

This writing looks at the definition of Reputation Management and Tesco Rebuilding
Reputation after overstating its profits, the different types and degrees of their
problems and the foundations for effective Reputation repairs. Repair methods and
the steps to repair process are also outlined. The author finally considers the results
which can result from reputation repair practices.
At the same time, there are some people who still believe in the maxim of Milton
Friedman (1970) that the only objective of a corporation is to increase profits and to
build wealth for investors, with reputation seen as something that is nice to suffer ,
merely an expendable cost.

In this report the author have formulated a conceptualization as shown in figure 1 to
help the reader to understand the bridge of identifying the degrees of problems which
Tesco faces when dealing with their Reputation repairs, to achieving a desirable
outcome. The concept also illustrates the relationship
between each individual step and how they are all totally interconnected. To
accomplish a desired outcome Tesco must identify the types and degrees of
problems they are facing and build bases for effective reputation and brand repairs
including communication, change management, training, empowerment of staff and
a reward system. This will allow Tesco to decide on a formal repair handling
procedure by watching over the identified five steps as identified below.

Does Walmart Causes
I m going Walmartin , Walmartin , going Walmatin today. This cute little ditty
describes the place Americans spend $36 million every hour, and a family of four
spends $4000 of their cold hard cash per year. Most Americans can speed to a
Walmart within 15 minutes of where they live. Is this not convenient (Weishar,
2013)? But what causes American shoppers to spend a portion of their income to
help support this American Icon located in Bentonville, Arkansas? The following
causes may explain American s fixation with Walmart. The first cause is a social
one: Walmart is a gathering place especially for the senior citizens. Many seniors
citizens such as Wilma and Fred go to Walmart just to see who they can see, and while

Gone are the local dry goods store which sold blue jeans and khaki pants for school
or work. Some local specialty shops may sell items like the Southern t shirts or
designer sweaters; some may sell designer like skirts or pants. However, the dry
goods store finds it very difficult to compete; a small town which may have had
four clothiers no longer has one. Where does this leave Fred and Wilma to shop?
Their choice is to shop at a non locally owned store. Hence, Fred and Wilma are back
at Walmart looking for a pair of jeans for Fred to wear while mowing the yard.
(Wilma s love affair with Walmart s deli help to increase Fred s waist!) Many local
hardwares no longer sell lawnmowers. The answer is clear: people would rather pay
greatly discounted price at Walmart for a Murray push mower. Saving nickels and
dimes is important to most American consumers. Patio
Banning Assault And Semiautomatic Weapons
Banning Assault and Semiautomatic Weapons
Assault style or automatic weapons have been a common denominator in almost all
fatal mass shootings. It is unnecessary for civilians to purchase automatic weapons
for non military use. If there was a ban on the purchasing of militarized weapons by
civilians, it would decrease the number of fatal mass shootings drastically.
Statistics show that in 2015, there were 372 mass shootings, killing 475 people and
wounding 1,870. Also in 2015, there were 64 school shootings, that number include
incidents where a firearm was shot but no one was injured. There are roughly 300
million guns in the United States, which is about a third of the population. The U.S.
Department of Justice and the Council on Foreign Affairs reported that 11,385
people died on average annually in firearm incidents in the U.S. between 2001 and
2011.
During the 1980 s and 1990 s, there were numerous mass shootings that involved
automatic weapons. An example of one of the first mass shootings in the U.S.
occurred in 1989. Patrick Purdy returned to his elementary school in Stockton,
California armed with an AKS rifle, which is similar to the AK 47, and opened fire.
He killed 5 children and wounded 30 others, and then turned the gun on himself. One
of the most horrific mass
murders in the history of the United States was in San Ysidro, California in a
McDonald s. James Huberty killed 21 people and wounded 19 others. The weapon he
used was an Uzi carbine, which is a
The Betrayal Of Aboriginal Peoples

May 2016 The Betrayal of Aboriginal peoples in Canada In Canadian history
courses, we studied how the Europeans established in Canada to start a new life. We
also learned that Christopher Columbus was the first explorer to discover this empty
land, but in contrary, the native Canadians were already living in Canada even before
it is discovered. Notwithstanding the European settlers moved in and took over the
place. They brought their own Government, they called themselves as the majority
and they also took the lands of the aboriginal people. Indigenous people are seen
differently from the societies, which is running those states. In other words, the

However, these people are getting cheated over and over by the government. They
were manipulated and fooled. Aboriginal people want their way of life to be
recognized, their values and their beliefs, rather than the European s way of life.
Each time they sign a treaty they face a disappointment, in other words, they were
betrayed by the state. The government of Canada downplayed consistently the
significance of Indigenous rights claims and failed to think about the grievances left
in the long term. Even to say that the Canadian criminal justice system has
abandoned the aboriginal people on a massive scale. It is not only that the justice
system has failed Aboriginal people, but also the government was opposed to them.
The rights of Indigenous people have been ignored and slowly deprived. This
resulted in an injustice towards the Indian bands. People who once ruled their own
business independently ended up in poverty and without power. The years go on and
these people realize the unfairness about how they were treated by the justice system
and the authority. Even if they get their rights back, at the end of the day, whatever
rights they may have has no value compared to the state. The authority suppresses
their rights. (Asch, M., 2014, Chap. 2) Since the Canadian government has tried to re
emphasise the constitutional concerns for the aborigines but it concluded with a
Brutus s Hamartia
What was Brutus s Hamartia?
In many of William Shakespeare s plays, there is an identified tragic hero. A tragic
hero, according to Aristotle, is a man whose adversity comes to him, not through
vice or depravity but by some error of judgement. The tragic hero s story should
arouse pity and fear to the audience. Most tragic heroes appear in Greek literature
like in Julius Caesar. A well known tragic herois Brutus, who was manipulated into
going against the great ruler Caesar. If this is what a tragic hero is, is Brutus an
example of a tragic hero?
According to Aristotle a tragic hero should have certain characterics. One of them is
that a hero must be noble but still have a tragic flaw. Brutus was in the senatorial
class and his father ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He easily was manipulated by Cassius and Marc Antony into his plans into killing
Caesar and never suspects both will go against him. In Act 2, Scene 1, the fake
letters sent to him are from the conspirators. He believes the people of Rome want
him to be king. In Act 3, Scene 2, Brutus allows Marc Antony to speak at Caesar s
funeral. Marc Antony convinces the crowd that the conspirators are evil and should
go against them. All these characteristics represent Brutus being a tragic hero.
Tragic heroes often make an error in their judgement. Brutus s error was trusting
Cassius and Marc Antony believing they would not be opposed to him. However,
Cassius manipulates Brutus into trusting him and then turns against Brutus after
killing Caesar. Marc Antony goes behind his back speaking negatively of Brutus at
Caesar s funeral. By accomplishing this mistake, it leads to a series of calamity
leading to his death.
Another example of being a tragic hero is having an epiphany about their flaw.
This example represents Brutus as well. Brutus and Cassius have a fight and
Brutus realizes he can t trust Cassius anymore. He has an another epiphany of how
killing Caesar was wrong. He recognized that killing Caesar didn t help Rome s
Republic and how he was double crossed by the other conspirators. This information
leads to his downfall and
Dna Profiling And The National Dna Database System
Part B: Report
DNA Profiling: Is it ethical to have national DNA database system?
Introduction: Today, the advancing gene technology provides humanity with
numerous benefits such as Genetically Modified Food, CRISPER, and one of them
is the use of DNA profiling for storing bio information. DNA fingerprint technology
allows mapping of individual s genetic patterns that can be stored into the database
system (What is DNA fingerprint? 2016). The ability to profile gene effectively,
DNA fingerprinting is used as a problem solving tool in the justice system and
medical science researches. At the same time, ethical and social issues such as
privacy violations, human rights and the possibility of discrimination cannot be
ignored.
Biological Background: It is scientifically proven that DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid)
contains genetic material and highly specific to individual. DNA fingerprint can be
tested by restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) methods and Polymerase
chain reaction (PCR) methods. Although RFLP is considered more accurate, due to
the cost and requirement of longer period to complete, it is not commonly used.
While only 1% of genetic materials are unique to individual, the short tandem repeats
(STR) sequences called minisatellites can be used to distinguish all humans as it
shows great variation between each person (What is DNA fingerprint? 2016).
DNA fingerprinting technique involves a number of steps. The DNA sample from

change. According to (Want, 2007, p. 1 2) this change contributes directly to a
company s ability or inability to effectively manage radically changing competitive
business conditions . Author Jerome Want further states that because a company was
once an industry leader does not make it immune to the impact of radical change . In
addition, former industry leading companies such as The Coca Cola Company and

Why is this article important?
The proposed transaction between Coca Cola and Coca Cola Enterprises was
based on the fundamental idea that these changes would be beneficial to both
companies and create a corporate culture based on trust and a shared vision.
Currently, both Coca Cola Enterprises and Coca Cola Company are in a unique
arrangement. This arrangement is one in which the united action of these two

same goal individually. Thus, producing synergy and adding significant power to
each company in their own right. Overall, the Coca Cola Company and Coca Cola

The Battles of Philippi
The Battles of Philippi (42 BCE):
The Death of the Roman Republic The battles of Philippi remain one of the best
examples of how audacity on the battlefield can influence history. The battles are
the climax of the civil war following the assassination of Gaius Julius Caesar in 44
BCE by a band of prominent political figures of Rome; (led by Marcus Junius
Brutus (Brutus) and Gaius Cassius Longina (Cassius)) who will be referred to in
this paper as the Liberators . The Battles that occurred on the Macedonian plains

Well situated on the high ground fortifications the Liberator forces could have simply
outlasted the forces of the Triumvirate. Pro Caesarian forces occupied low swampy
coastal plain not well situated to support a Roman army. In an attempt to overcome
Triumvirate limitations, Mark Antonyconstructed a causeway to support a troop
movement to the Liberator s rear. Upon receiving intelligence that Cassius had
ordered a wall to be built cutting the causeway and isolating Mark Antony from the
field, Mark Antony seized the opportunity and attacked the Liberators (Appian, 2007).
Using this technique Mark Antony forced Cassius hand and ultimately his suicide.
The Battles of Philippi hold many lessons that apply to today s battlefield. The
clearest lesson is that boldness will carry the day. By seizing the initiative Mark
Anthony overcame disadvantages of terrain and logistics. His unpredictable actions
led to the deaths of the two men that posed the largest threat to the Triumvirate. By
understanding the effect of shock, the value of initiative, and courage the Triumvirate
commanders would carry the day. Mark Antony s understanding of enemy force
structure and doctrine, the effects of culture, and experience as a leader allowed him
to outwit his foe. His effective use of scouts and effective intelligence about Liberator
intentions allowed him to

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT OF INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES
The airline industry, like many other industries, is increasingly exposed to
competition. Increased competition has two effects on firms: it creates downward
pressures on output prices, and it creates incentives for improving productivity and
efficiency. Many airlines have been forced to undertake major restructuring in order
to meet these challenges. Many researchers have used different model to decompose
changes in airline profitability into two components: productivity and price recovery
ability. The study concluded that increased competition in international air transport
markets has put pressures on carriers ability to raise prices. However input prices, like
labor, fuel, materials, flight equipment, ground property and equipment have been
increasing. They also demonstrated that airlines have made tremendous effort to
improve efficiency to counteract such trends, yet large fluctuations in profitability are
still an ongoing reality. Due to these fluctuations in airline fortunes, early warning
systems of imminent distress are of benefit to management and airline stakeholders
such as creditors and investors. No prediction

How Young Goodman Brown Became Old Badman Brown
Essay
Nathaniel Hawthorne was a nineteenth century American writer of the Romantic
Movement. Born in Salem, Massachusetts, in 1804, he was one of those rare writers
who drew critical acclaim during his lifetime. Hawthorne used Salem as a setting for
most of his stories, such as The Scarlet Letter, The Blithedale Romance, and Young
Goodman Brown. Today, readers still appreciate Hawthorne s work for its storytelling
qualities and for the moral and theological questions it raises. Nathaniel Hawthornes
work is typically fraught with symbolism, much of it deriving from his Puritan
ancestry; relatives of his were judges in the Salem witchcraft trials. Young Goodman
Brown is an allegory whose characters play a major role in conveying the... Show

Likewise, he will be left alone afterwards when he tries to retrieve it/her during his
journey. Author Terence Martin speculates that Goodman Brown s journey into the
forest is best defined as a kind of general, indeterminate allegory, representing man s
irrational drive to leave faith, home, and security temporarily behind, for whatever
reason, to take a chance with one more errand onto the wilder shores of experience
(Martin 92).
It should not escape attention that Goodman Brown s wife, a lighthearted naive
woman, has the name of Faith. Faith is by no means an unusual woman s name,
but it is significant in this story that she is presented to us first as a very young
bride with pink ribbons in her hair almost like a child (1264). This young woman is
filled with hidden sin, yet she is said to be Godly. Because Faith was so honest and
Godly, Young Goodman Brown put all of his faith in her, which made her the best
of his worst enemies. Faith s ribbon is a description of her personality or her inner
self. The pink ribbon that Faith wears is a symbol of purity. Faith s ribbon is found
in the evil forest when Brown awakes, and that s when Faith is really seen as an
unclear person. Faith is also said to have forsaken not only against Goodman
Brown but also against God because she gave in to the likes of the devil. The
ribbons provide continuity between faith as an ideal of a Puritan woman and as a
sinner. Her pink

Introduction Healey and Zimmerman state (2010) that an innovative program will
require not only team effort, but input from community leaders as well as
collaborative partners, that will aid in the development, implementation, evaluation of
a community education campaign, as well as the program continuance, including
funding. The campaign should be built constructed on strong and understandable
messages, so that the target population can take action and pass on the message from
its memorable key components. An effective campaign then, will devise under the
campaign logo what the problem needs to be changed, how the campaign will go
about making this change, the consequences of not taking action, and the action to be
taken to achieve the message of the proposed campaign (UN Women, 2012).

Descartes Surprise Ending in Discourse on Method
In one of the most influential books in the history of Western philosophy, Rene
Descartes outlines a method mental reasoning, which he applies to a wide variety of
fields and intellectual endeavors. For the first few books of Discourse on the
Method, Descartes outlines first how the method came about as he was a pupil at
schooland had the realization that he was not actually learninganything important. He
was therefore motivated to discover what truly constituted learning, knowledge, and
truth. The philosopher can do this by doubting everything first. By doubting, he can
use reason to discern what is real from unreal.
Doubting is the focus of Book Two of Discourse on the Method. The method that
Descartes applies to fields like geometry, which the author points out in Book Two.
His doubting is more personal in Book Three. The surprise ending to Discourse on
the Method comes when suddenly Descartes is no longer doubting something. He
spends so much time in the first three books on doubting information, and letting go
of his beliefs, that when he launches into his cogito ergo sum assertion, it comes to
the reader as a great surprise.
The surprise ending is that Descartes finds the first thing he cannot doubt, which is
the fact that he exists. His existence is something that cannot be doubted, or else it
would create a metaphysical conundrum: it is not possible to even think about
doubting without first existing. The smallest thought cannot come from nothingness,
and so,
A Case Study of Harlequin Publishing
Harlequin Romances: Strategic planning SWOT Strengths Harlequin is one of the
most famous mass market publishers in the world. It primarily publishes
romances, largely directed towards female readers, under a variety of imprints.
Some of these romances are historical, others are contemporary. Some are
extremely explicit, while others are more innocent. While certain aspects of these
different lines vary from imprint to imprint, there is a great deal of consistency to
Harlequin s brand image. Almost everyone knows that a Harlequin is a romance,
and the brand name is synonymous with romance, much like Coca Cola is
synonymous with soda. Weaknesses The publishing industry is struggling in many
areas. Customers have a great deal of other reading material they can access
online. Readers can read cheaper, self published novels on their Kindle, or surf free
content online. Also, the Harlequin image amongst some women is seen as out of
date, given contemporary feminist mores. Opportunities Harlequin is seeking to
enter the self publishing and e publishing market to diversify and modernize its
options. Creating books solely for online reading suits the Harlequin model, given
that there is a strong emphasis on creating disposable books for pleasure. Reading
online, consumers will no longer have to get rid of their old Harlequins at garage
sales, given that they can access the content virtually and dispose of it electronically
when finished. Romance readers buy in

during this past rating period, the tasks assigned to me seemed to be impossible to

Martin Luther King Jr Is A Hero
Many people are different in many ways, race, color, gender, personality, and
nationality. These are common things people get discriminated from, because of
what religion they believe in or even their skin color. Martin Luther King Jr. did
not agree or like this. He wanted change. He didn t give up on African Americans
who got judged because of their skin. I have a dream that my four little children
will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin,
but by the content of their character. For Example, Nelson Mandela fought against
South African apartheid, Rosa Parks fought for black freedom just like MLK did,
and Malala Yousafzai fought for women s rights and education. Out of all these
examples of heroic people, this is why Martin Luther King Jr. is a hero.... Show more

Examples Of Lack Of Self Confidence In The Wizard Of Oz
In today s society, there are about 6.375 billion people affected by a lack of self
confidence, in other terms, this is about 85% of the world s current population of
7.5 billion people. Why does the majority of the world s population suffer from a
lack of self confidence? There is a simple answer to this question, and it can be
found in the book The Wonderful Wizard of Ozby L. Frank Baum. Baum through the
use of 3 characters portrays the lack of self confidence. Baum uses the Scarecrow, the
Tin Woodmanand the Lion prove that a person/character s own strengths go un
noticed by him/her. The way to reach these strengths would be through self
confidence. The 85% of the world s population with a lack of self confidence do not

It in fact was a possibility, allowing the rest of the travelers to climb the lion s back
and make it across the ditch. Once across this ditch the group encountered another
ditch to cross, which was so large, even the lion was unable to leap across.
Realizing this the Scarecrow told the Tin Woodman to cut down a large tree from
the close by forest and asked the Lion to push it down towards the ditch once it was
cut. This created a bridge for not only the travelers to cross but also the dreaded
Kalidahs. The Kalidahs are dreaded beats that were ferocious and could kill the
lion if they wanted to and turning back the Lion realizes that there are two
Kalidahs following them across the bridge. Once everyone gets across the bridge
the Scarecrow instructs the Tin Woodman to cut down the part of the tree that lay
on their side of the bridge. Doing this had caused the tree to fall, taking both the
Kalidahs down into the ditch. Shortly after the Scarecrow had helped the group
cross two ditches and saved everyone s life, was he faced with another small
problem, how to get across the river. The Scarecrow made easy work of this and
asked the Tin Woodman to cut down trees and make rafts for them. The Scarecrow
had proved everything he had said about himself wrong through these actions. All
these situations happened in one chapter and there is a couple more in the
The Problem Of E Waste
E Waste may be described as a broad and growing range of electronics ranging from
large household devices such as refrigerators, air conditioners, cell phones, personal
stereos and consumer electronics to computers, which have been discarded by their
users. (Puckett and Smith, 2002). While this description is accurate, it is slightly
ambiguous about the length of time before a device can actually be considered waste.
Often, owners discard their electronics long before they have reached the end of
their actual life cycle in order to upgrade to a newer model. In most cases the
outgoing device finds its way into the used market. This may prolong the life of the
product by a few years, however all electronic items eventually reach a point... Show

With devices becoming increasingly affordable, the replacement time for common
consumer electronics has also become shorter. Planned obsolescence is a
significant contributor to the increase in purchase of consumer electronics. Many
companies these days limit software updates and features to only a handful of new
phones or tablets they offer, thus perpetuating the need to go out and purchase the
new model. The average use time before a consumer replaces their mobile phone is
only 18 months even though it s actual life cycle may be much longer than that.
PCs and laptops are usually considered outdated within 3 4 years of purchase and
are then replaced by their owners for newer and faster models. Studies have
estimated e waste generation worldwide at 20 to 50 million tonnes per year with a
steady increase of 8% to 10% annually. One of the methods to estimate the potential
volume of e waste in the present and the future is by analyzing sales figures of
commercial electronics. By taking into account how much we are buying, we may
be able to approximate how much will be added to this waste stream a few years
down the line when newly purchased devices become obsolete and are discarded. On
the release of the latest iPad, electronic buy back firms stated that consumers were
trading in their older tablets at an unprecedented rate for the new iteration even
though their older tablets were completely functional and working.
Autism Personal Statement
Originally, I was drawn to speech pathology after my sister s diagnosis of Autism at
the age of three. Watching Diane struggle with language development and
acquisition while other children seemed to grasp these skills naturally is what
initially sparked my interest in helping families like my own. At the start of my
junior year, I set out to obtain experiences working with different populations.
Toward the latter half of junior year, I became involved as a clerical volunteer at the
Sacramento Scottish Rite Childhood Language Center. By senior year, I was
balancing a full course load alongside three volunteer experiences. In addition to
Scottish Rite Childhood Language Center, I divided my time between tutoring at a
neighboring elementary schoolin the Twin Rivers School District and serving as an
intern at the Autism Center for Excellence (ACE). During my undergraduate
experience, I welcomed the opportunity to work with students that struggled with
literacy, language, and pragmatic skills. After graduation, it was my goal to obtain
additional experience in the field as a speech language pathology assistant.

Negative Effects Of Caffeine
Background Research Is Caffeine good or bad for living organisms? This is a
topic that has been debated all around the world. Plants are essential to life on earth
because of their ability to make food. They make food by using a process called
photosynthesis. Some plants can also produce caffeine on their own. Caffeine speeds
up regeneration in Planaria. Caffeine is used to stimulate the central nervous system.
Caffeine is consumed in large quantities daily, but it can have both positive and
negative effects on living organisms that ingest it. Caffeine is an alkaloid, which is
commonly found in coffee, tea, and pop (Shahab). It has many health benefits, as
well as its disadvantages. Drinking caffeine protects the liver. It has been... Show

Nitrogen, potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and sulfur are all

Potassium is also a key element for plants to maintain photosynthesis. However, it
also helps limit diseases, and is the element responsible for getting plants protein.
Magnesium energizes plant enzymes that are essential for growth. Sulfur helps boost
the growth of roots. Zinc helps control sugars. Fertilizers also help plants grow and

slow release fertilizer, and fast release fertilizer. Synthetic fertilizers are manufactured.
Organic fertilizers are made from natural materials. Fast release fertilizers quickly

Persuasive Essay On Genetically Modified Crops
World population projections currently expect another 2 billion people in the world

Nations is grappling with the realities of a global food shortage crisis, meaning that,
even without the next 2 billion people added to the global population, world leaders

Essentially, crops are raised in a glasshouse under incessant, low cost LEDs whose
light is emitted at very specific wavelengths to catalyze photosynthesis. The far red
spectrum is important for triggering the reproductive growth and also light intensity
for healthy robust plants, according to Lee Hickey, a senior research fellow at the
University of Queensland and a co author on the new study. In the glasshouse, we
currently use high pressure sodium vapor lamps, and these are quite expensive in
terms of the electricity demand, Hickey explains. In our paper, we demonstrate that
wheat and barley populations can be grown at a density of about 900 plants per
square meter, thus in combination with LED light systems, this presents an exciting
opportunity to scale up the operation for industry use. This comes on the heels of a
fairly significant panel report from Parliament in India coming out against genetically
modified crops. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology,
Environment and Forests in New Delhi concluded that no GM crops should be
brought into the country without thorough evaluation of the probable effects. The
committee suggested that the government conduct this evaluation in collaboration
with several pertinent agencies,

This brings me to my first point: cost. The ABM appeared to have all the
characteristics of a solution in search of a problem. This characteristic shows up all

nuclear weaponry. A possibly fundamental reason why the ABM decision came up

to the Army as its only sophisticated missile program. This decision created a
situation in which for many years the lives and careers of many able persons had

ABM. This not only included the civilians employed in the program office and by
the main contractors, it also included uniformed personnel and a slew of part time

Advantages Of Sweatshops Essay

Sweatshops: worth the price? A sweatshop is the place that has a poor working
condition, where workers are paid very low wage thought they work for longer
hours. A sweatshop is defined by the US department of Labor as a factory that
violates 2 or more labor laws. Sweatshops are common in poor and developing

Sweatshops also helps in developing the infrastructure of the country. Besides
raising the life standard of the workers, it also helps in raising the economy of the
country. One of the good things is that companies need to pay taxes to the
government which directly help to boost the economy of the country. Furthermore,
a successful investment in poor countries will send message to other potential
investors that there is a stable environment for investment, leading in more
investment, job opportunities and prosperity in the country. This have
standardized the global economy. Many technologies are introduced by the

As these factories need proper transportation, communication, digital technologies,

Obviously, there are some bad sides of sweatshops. The first thing is that people
need to work in the horrific condition putting their life in risk. Sometimes it s like
your worst nightmare. They are a curse for human rights. They do not care about
the workers they are working for side workers are allowed to work for longer hours
without any food and break. They have always been criticized for their violation
against child labor and human rights. There are many cases where workers are
abused. They are accused verbally,
Examining The Life Of Sylvia Plath As Seen Within
Examining the Life of Sylvia Plath as Seen Within Lady Lazarus Sylvia Plath s
poem, Lady Lazarus , was greatly about the author s life: the influence by her
suicide attempts, years of troubled mental health, and stressed relationships with her
father and husband. The opening lines of Lady Lazarus read I have done it again.
/ One year in every ten (Plath 1 2). These two lines immediately reference Plath s
suicide attempts, her first of three being in 1953 when she was just a university
student, where she took a bottle of sleeping pills, water, and a blanket down to her
cellar and proceeded to down sleeping pills until she became unconscious (Steinberg).
Throughout Plath s life, she seemed to have an interesting relationship with death,...

/ This is Number Three (21 22) referring to her first two suicide attempts, the poem
being written only four months before her third and final suicide attempt
(Herrman). However, strangely enough, it is debated as to whether her suicide
attempts were supposed to be just that, attempts, and not with the final goal of
ending her life. It is argued that Plath intended to be found, even leaving a note for
her neighbor, whom she knew would be home, listing her doctor s contact
information, and hiring a nanny to look after the children, further exemplifying
her strange relationship with death (Steinberg). However, the gas from the stove,
which she used to kill herself, also seeped through the floor, knocking out her
neighbor below (Steinberg). This factor of her suicide attempt was not planned
for, and may have been what ultimately resulted in her death. Though theatrical, it
is worth noting that the women on her father s side had a history of mental health
issues (Herrman). Plath herself even calls out the theatrics: [i]t s the theatrical /

One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest Essay

College Bound Novel: One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest One Flew Over the
Cuckoo s Nest by Ken Kesey is a brilliant novel copyrighted in 1963 it is about a man
testing his limits with his authority, the nurse. Ken Kesey was influenced to write this
novel after being part of a experiment involving the effect LSD had on people s
minds.( One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest Background. ) This novel shows what I
believe are true aspects of the way our world conceives people within a mental
institution. The novel starts with Bromden, the narrator also a patient of the
institution, sweeping the halls while the nurse targets the black men. Soon after
McMurphy is brought in as a new admission, patient. Immediately everybody
notices his presence because of how he carries himself when he gets their. When he
first comes in he goes into the day room and introduces himself to everyone. He then
brings a level of intimidation to all of the patients and lets them know that he is
going to be taking over. He first brings gambling into the hospital betting with
cigarettes, and he soon becomes top dog at the hospital not letting anyone even come

Invisibility is a very displayed theme when it comes to Bromden within the novel.
Bromden is seen to be a deaf dumb Indian however he is not deaf. Which allows
him to be observant without anyone thinking twice about it. McMurphy is the only
character that breaks through his barrier of invisibility and makes a close
relationship with him. The second theme I found is the power of intimidation, I
notice this as a theme because McMurphy has gained a lot of power over all of the
residents because of intimidation. He has the ability to get into their minds and
change decisions they may or may not want to make, which helps him get away with
all of the bad things he bring into the hospital.(Kesey,
Ancient Greek Columns
During the archaic period, the Greeks stopped using wood as their primary building
material. Instead, they used stone, preferable marble, to make their large buildings.
Hence the birth of stone in Greek structures. The stone was very durable and had
superior strength, unlike the wood. The Greeks cut the stone to form columns.
According to Mark Cartwright(2012) from Ancient History Encyclopedia The
columns were an architectural invention, which allowed for the support of ceilings
without the use of wood to walls. Without solid walls, the larger buildings would
have more sources of light. Columns were used primarily for Greek temples, such as
the Parthenonwhich displayed a great use of columns. The Parthenon primary source
of light came from the sun.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Greeks created three different architectural orders for columns. The three
orders were the Doric, Ionic and Corinthian orders. The Doric columns was the
Greeks first architectural order. Although it had a simple capital and no base, it was
the widest among the three orders. The Ionic columns had a more detailed capital
that was in the form of a double scroll. The Ionic columns also had a base unlike the
Doric order. The Corinthian column had a capital that was sculpted with flowers and
leaf designs. The Corinthian column also had a base, but it is the tallest among all
three orders. With these three orders Greek temples were built lager with more
features since the stone columns can withstand more weight. These three orders also
gave Greek architects the flexibility to add more sources of light to their
Wizard of Oz Narrative Report
Assignment 1 Narrative Report
Story and Plot
In a narrative film, a plot is considered all visible and audible elements present in a
film, in essence the film in its entirety including nondiegetic images. In The Wizard
of Oz, the plot begins with Dorothy (Judy Garland), a young farm girl from Kansas
who dreams of escaping to somewhere over the rainbow without troubles and
torment for her dog Toto from a horrible neighbour Miss Gulch (Margaret
Hamilton). During a tornado she is hit on the head and is transported to the World of
Oz where she meets characters transformed from her Kansas life at home, meeting
three companions who are all missing a quality that they wish to gain. She goes on a
journey with them all to see the Wizard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oz is shot in bright and vibrant colours, which pertains to the idea of a magical
land that appears very opposed to the dull and colourless real world of Kansas,
assisting on taking the viewer on the journey over the rainbow . This goal oriented
plot in The Wizard of Oz follows a pattern of development that encourages the
viewer to expect Dorothy to reach her desired goal. The viewer then sees each action
of Dorothy s to be a progress of this desire to go home to Kansas.
The film is brought to a climax when the Dorothy and her friends return to visit the
Wizard after destroying the Wicked Witch of the West, of which he had requested.
During this scene it is revealed that the Wizard is in fact a fraud, an ordinary but
clever man who although as no powers, still fulfils the expectations of the story. He
gives Scarecrow, Tinman and the Cowardly Lion the answers they seek by giving
them the self confidence to recognise they had the qualities which they were looking
for all along and he presents them with some token external symbols to represent this.
In the final scenes and formal resolution of the film, which is shot in sepia tones
creating a parallelism with Kansas on the opening scene, Dorothy attains her goal of
returning home, waking up in her own bedroom surrounded by friends and family
from her real life, therefore fulfilling the
The Effects Of Smoking On The United States
Smoking is established as a recognized cause of cancer, lung disease, coronary
heart disease, and stroke(US Public Health Service,1964,Doll R 1976,1994, US
Department of Health and Human Services,1989).it is considered to be the single
most important avoidable cause of premature morbidity and mortality in the
world. WHO has estimated that there are about 1100 million smokers worldwide;
this represents about one third of the global population aged over 15 years
(WHO,1997). About 73% of these smokers (700 million males, 100 million
females) are in developing countries; in industrialized countries there are 200
million male smokers and 100 million female smokers. In the over 15 year old
population of developing countries, it is estimated that about 48% of males and 7%
of females are smokers. The corresponding figures for industrialized countries are
42% for males and 24% for females (WHO,1997).
Logistic Regression Model: The logistic regression models has wide ranging
applications from determining the population growth and its determinants to
applications for predicting and analyzing qualitative data and in epidemiological
studies. Logistic regression model postulates relationship between the log odds of a
disease and the risk factors. A regression predicts the probability that an observation
falls into one of two categories of a dichotomous dependent variable based on one or
more independent variables that can be either continuous or categorical.

Video Game Violence Essay
Video Game Violence
Violence in video games has been a hot topic ever since the beginnings of the
industry. From depictions of a polygonal frog being run over in Frogger, to stealing
cars in a realistic environment a la Grand Theft Auto, this topic has sparked serious
debate. The traditional liberal stance is that the government should forcefully regulate
the video game industry. The conservative stance is that the industry does a good job
of rating itself, and that government should not get involved. The liberal stance has
its points, in the fact that video games are getting more realistic and more violent.
With increasing technology in computers, the video game industry also makes
advances in graphics and what they can display. The ... Show more content on

Most of the sources I found were psychology journals or publications dedicated to
adolescent health. These articles tended to lean both ways. Some articles claimed
that there was a link between video game violence and violence in real life. Others
said that no such link existed. Neither side quoted any solid sources, however. Many
of the medical journals lumped together TV, movies, and video games in their
articles. Most of the psychology journals advocated more parent involvement and
more social interaction. Of the non medical sources, most were news articles. A
few used the articles previously mentioned about how video games and violence
were supposedly linked to prove their point. Some were about courts who had
thrown out cases that claimed that video games were responsible for causing
children to commit horrible acts like Columbine. Most of the major news sources
tended to stay neutral on this issue. They only reported games that had record
breaking sales or the must have games. What I was hoping to find, however, were
articles that argued from the government point of view. I was hoping to find articles
for and against mandatory government enforced ratings of video games. However,
none of those came up.
As a video gamer, I believe that video game companies should be allowed to freely
develop games as they please. I am personally aware of several cases of extreme
censorship. For example, a World War 2 based game was
Fathers and Songs by Ivan Turgenev Essay
Fathers and Sons is a novel written by Russian author Ivan Turgenev and originally
published in 1862. Emerging in tsarist Russia during the realism period of literature,
Turgenev examines the subject of changing generations in his novel. In Fathers and
Sons the new generation is represented by the characters Arkady Nikolaevich
Kirsanov and Evgeny Vasilich Bazarov, recent university graduates and self
proclaimed nihilists. Nihilism, a term popularized by Turgenev himself, is a broad
philosophical school of thought that debases traditional values of life. Fathers and
Sons was both written during and set in a time when nihilism movements in Russia
were gaining a strong following. Throughout the novel Turgenev uses a combination

Yes, interposed Pavel Petrovich, yes; you were convinced of all this, and decided not
to undertake anything seriously, yourselves. We decided not to undertake anything,
replied Bazarov grimly. (48)
When Bazarov begins to expound on his philosophy, nihilism is not presented as
wholly detrimental. He simply disavows frivolity, values practicality and thinks life
to be simply a question of getting bread to eat (48). But Bazarov and Arkady make
no attempt to improve conditions as they see them. They believe that the society that
has been built is superficial and antiquated and must be brought down, but have no
plans to undertake any sort of reconstruction: We shall destroy, because we are a
force, observed Arkady. (49). Turgenev shows nihilism to be a destructive force only,
incapable of engineering anything better than that which it seeks to destroy.
However, throughout the novel, Arkady is fraught with internal conflict over his
philosophy, and begins to slowly stray from his tenets. When staying at his father s,
Arkady makes a point of a defending Pavel to Bazarov. Pavel is very much the
opposite of Bazarov (who is Turgenev s embodiment of nihilism), acting always with
an air of
Where The Wild Things Are Book Analysis
Where the Wild Things Are: Comparison of the book vs. the movie
Many movies made today were sourced from books whose story was rewritten as a
movie script. One of my favorite books was turned into a movie in 2009 and was
originally from a children s story book called Where the Wild Things Are written
and illustrated by Maurice Sendak, was published in 1963. The book s author is a
well known children s book illustrator and writer that has won numerous awards
such as the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award in 1983, given by the American Library
Association in recognition of his entire body of work; and in 1996 the National
Medal of Arts in recognition of his contribution to the arts in America and in 2003.

The book, which is only 20 pages and 337 words long, and the movie made is 101
minutes long. I am interested what notable changes were made to the book s
storyline in order to expand it into a movie and whether it made for a better story
in some way. I used two sources for comparison, the first is a web review of the
book, Where the Wild Things Are Review. Children sbooksguide.com. September

Rio Salado Library database, Opposing Viewpoints called MOVIE REVIEW;

Minneapolis Star Tribune. October 2012. The comparison resulted in some minor
plot variations with the addition of characters in the story s line, that because it was
expanded in an imaginative and non intrusive manner and with enough continuity to
the original story, that it was as satisfying in presentation despite the media change

Benefits Of Having Farmers Markets
The Benefits of Having Farmers Markets In a nation where caring about our health
and wellness is of top priority, we often wonder why eating healthy is so much
more expensive. If it s better for everyone, why does it cost so much more than
most unhealthy food choices, and what can we do to change this? Supporting the
sale of local foods by encouraging farmer s markets in every city and town across
the nation, would be the best solution to this mind boggling problem no one seems
to know the answer to. Farmers markets would not only provide fresh foods such as
fruits, vegetables, and homemade products to everyone at a lower cost than at the
grocery food chains, but would also give an array of many other benefits, such as
giving those... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is said that this year alone, because of the El Nino weather pattern and the
devastation it has cause throughout the country, the food price inflation will only
keep rising and on many different items we have to eat every day. To name a few,
eggs are expected to rise 2%, fruit and nuts 4.5%, vegetables 4%, and meats 4.5%
(CBC News, 2015). It is clear, and the one thing we know for sure is how much
more money that will go into purchasing foods and how much less money will be
in our wallets. We know this poses a huge problem, it s hard not to notice,
especially when thinking about the combination of the rising cost of food, with
stagnant or falling incomes, coupled with the unemployment rate and rise in the
cost of living. All these factors are the reason people just cannot spend the amount
of money they once use to on food. In the 1940 s people would use 24% of their
personal disposable income on the purchase of food for the home or away from
home, on already prepared food such as that in restaurants. In a survey done by the
USDA, Americans today were only using about 9.8% of their personal disposable
income on food (Volpe, 2013). This is an extremely large difference and is without
question caused by the economy. When the economy gets tough, most everyone
suffers in a sense and it s always hard having very little money to spend on food.
When this happens we tend to tap into a part of our brain to find the best ways to
acclimate to

  • 2. Broken Relationship Between The Colonists And The British... The Road to Independence Throughout the colonial period, relationships between the colonists and the British Empire continued to deteriorate. Taxation was mostly seen as being harmful for the American society but on the other hand beneficial to the crown. Tired of not being considered in matters that were critical to their daily life, colonists decided to prepare and submit their declaration of Independence to the British Empire. There were 27 remarks pointed out where the King completely ignored Americans rights and votes. It was not until July 4th, 1776 when Great Britain finally recognized the United States of America as an independent nation granting the power to the colonists to govern themselves. Broken Relationship Throughout the
  • 3. Samuel Colt The Legend of Samuel Colt Who was Samuel Colt? He was a legendary inventor from Hartford, Connecticut that helped revolutionize the way the world produced firearms. Colt was born to a family of farmers, his father Christopher Colt was a farmer, however he later stopped farming and became a business man. Meanwhile Colt s mother Sarah Colt passed when he was just six years old. His father remarried two years later and overall there would be six siblings in the Colt family. Despite being part of a big family Samuel Colt was destined to become successful and stand out above his other siblings. Colt began to engineer when he was very young. This was because his father had a silk mill factory in Massachusetts. His father Christopher trained ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of Colt s inventions and his company s contributions to the Nation the Union Army managed to have advanced revolvers during the war. Overall Its output for the entire Civil War period totaled 378,000 revolvers and 114,000 muskets (Grant, 1982). The role that his company played in producing firearms for the Union Army placed Colt as a historic figure in American history. Today Samuel Colt is looked at as the man who revolutionized the firearm industry and the man who created the first mass producing firearms company in the world. He was recently honored in 2006 as he was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. With manufacturing moving overseas in the past several decades and America currently having a trade deficit it would be difficult for Hartford to redevelop itself as one of the most important manufacturing cities in America. On the contrary, Hartford can use its past to place itself as one of the most important manufacturing cities in America. For instance, it can argue the fact that Colt came up with the idea of mass production and started running his business out of Hartford, that it was the city of Hartford who was the first to place itself as an industrial city in America. As the United States also faces challenges in regaining some of its success in the past back in manufacturing, it must end the habit of companies shipping all of the manufacturing jobs overseas and restore the

The Ford Motor Company And General Motors The largest contributor to Canada s Gross Domestic Product is Canada s largest manufacturing employer (Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers Association, 2011), but how has this sector surpassed all other industries? and how has this sector survived all the economic destructions riddled throughout Canada s history? This is the Canadian automotive industryand it is enormous and powerful yet so threatened by politics. Two of the largest players in the automotive industry are the Ford Motor Company and General Motors. By comparing the two paths both parallel companies have taken throughout over one hundred years of operations (Dykes, 2015), we can expose proper and improper business strategies within Canada. We can adventure through the strengths built up by management, the weaknesses that have attacked through the inside, the potential opportunities forecasted to arise, and the threats that may enforce themselves towards these industrial giants. From this we may be able to gather just what it takes to survive the Canadian market. The Ford Motor company was founded in Windsor Ontario in 1904 and initiated the commercialization of the automotive industry in Canada (Dykes, 2015). Four years later in 1908 General Motors was founded by Colonel R.S. Mclaughlin. The government of Canada had placed tariffs, long before the invention of the working combustion engine, on carriages entering Canada (Melandon, 2009). This in turn forced entrepreneurs like Mclaughlin to establish manufacturing

The Role of Language in Creating and Reinforcing Social Distinctions Such as Class, Ethnicity, and Gender It is said in a myth that people were once trying to build a giant latter to heaven so God made them all diverse by making portions of the people look different and speak different language. The now diverse people of earth felt annoyed and human nature took its ugly toll and separation and distinctions were made, they all scatter throughout the world. It is said that America is the most diverse country in the world; ironically it is also the most prominent. It is ironic because it is expected that with diverse people in one place they will want to seclude themselves but in the US; it shows that when there is a similar connection, such as language, between the people then they can unite and be great. The reason I mentioned that language doesn t stop dividing people is because even within a certain type of people there is still seclusion that is caused by language. The invisible oblige of language is so visible that there are many jokes between Americans about language that distinct types of American groups. Person A might say what s up bra , while person B says wut up hommie , while person C says how are you doing . Many people will be able to tell what kind of people are A, B, and C just by hearing how they ask someone how they are doing. Person B could be perceived to be a gangster. This is why I mentioned that it never stops dividing people. The gangster can now be deciphered into an even more specified type of people with other types of gangster talk with the same meaning. • 9. Does Walmart Causes I m going Walmartin , Walmartin , going Walmatin today. This cute little ditty describes the place Americans spend $36 million every hour, and a family of four spends $4000 of their cold hard cash per year. Most Americans can speed to a Walmart within 15 minutes of where they live. Is this not convenient (Weishar, 2013)? But what causes American shoppers to spend a portion of their income to help support this American Icon located in Bentonville, Arkansas? The following causes may explain American s fixation with Walmart. The first cause is a social one: Walmart is a gathering place especially for the senior citizens. Many seniors citizens such as Wilma and Fred go to Walmart just to see who they can see, and while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some local specialty shops may sell items like the Southern t shirts or designer sweaters; some may sell designer like skirts or pants. Their choice is to shop at a non locally owned store. Hence, Fred and Wilma are back at Walmart looking for a pair of jeans for Fred to wear while mowing the yard. (Wilma s love affair with Walmart s deli help to increase Fred s waist!) Many local hardwares no longer sell lawnmowers. The answer is clear: people would rather pay greatly discounted price at Walmart for a Murray push mower. Saving nickels and dimes is important to most American consumers. Patio
  • 10. Banning Assault And Semiautomatic Weapons Banning Assault and Semiautomatic Weapons Assault style or automatic weapons have been a common denominator in almost all fatal mass shootings. It is unnecessary for civilians to purchase automatic weapons for non military use. If there was a ban on the purchasing of militarized weapons by civilians, it would decrease the number of fatal mass shootings drastically. Statistics show that in 2015, there were 372 mass shootings, killing 475 people and wounding 1,870. Also in 2015, there were 64 school shootings, that number include incidents where a firearm was shot but no one was injured. There are roughly 300 million guns in the United States, which is about a third of the population. The U.S. Department of Justice and the Council on Foreign Affairs reported that 11,385 people died on average annually in firearm incidents in the U.S. between 2001 and 2011. During the 1980 s and 1990 s, there were numerous mass shootings that involved automatic weapons. An example of one of the first mass shootings in the U.S. occurred in 1989. Patrick Purdy returned to his elementary school in Stockton, California armed with an AKS rifle, which is similar to the AK 47, and opened fire. He killed 5 children and wounded 30 others, and then turned the gun on himself. Aboriginal people want their way of life to be recognized, their values and their beliefs, rather than the European s way of life. Each time they sign a treaty they face a disappointment, in other words, they were betrayed by the state. The government of Canada downplayed consistently the significance of Indigenous rights claims and failed to think about the grievances left in the long term. Even to say that the Canadian criminal justice system has abandoned the aboriginal people on a massive scale. It is not only that the justice system has failed Aboriginal people, but also the government was opposed to them. The rights of Indigenous people have been ignored and slowly deprived. This resulted in an injustice towards the Indian bands. People who once ruled their own business independently ended up in poverty and without power. The years go on and these people realize the unfairness about how they were treated by the justice system and the authority. Even if they get their rights back, at the end of the day, whatever rights they may have has no value compared to the state. The authority suppresses their rights. • 12. Brutus s Hamartia What was Brutus s Hamartia? In many of William Shakespeare s plays, there is an identified tragic hero. A tragic hero, according to Aristotle, is a man whose adversity comes to him, not through vice or depravity but by some error of judgement. The tragic hero s story should arouse pity and fear to the audience. Most tragic heroes appear in Greek literature like in Julius Caesar. A well known tragic herois Brutus, who was manipulated into going against the great ruler Caesar. If this is what a tragic hero is, is Brutus an example of a tragic hero? According to Aristotle a tragic hero should have certain characterics. One of them is that a hero must be noble but still have a tragic flaw. Brutus was in the senatorial class and his father ... In Act 2, Scene 1, the fake letters sent to him are from the conspirators. He believes the people of Rome want him to be king. In Act 3, Scene 2, Brutus allows Marc Antony to speak at Caesar s funeral. Marc Antony convinces the crowd that the conspirators are evil and should go against them. All these characteristics represent Brutus being a tragic hero. Tragic heroes often make an error in their judgement. Brutus s error was trusting Cassius and Marc Antony believing they would not be opposed to him. However, Cassius manipulates Brutus into trusting him and then turns against Brutus after killing Caesar. Marc Antony goes behind his back speaking negatively of Brutus at Caesar s funeral. By accomplishing this mistake, it leads to a series of calamity leading to his death. Another example of being a tragic hero is having an epiphany about their flaw. This example represents Brutus as well. Brutus and Cassius have a fight and Brutus realizes he can t trust Cassius anymore. He has an another epiphany of how killing Caesar was wrong. He recognized that killing Caesar didn t help Rome s Republic and how he was double crossed by the other conspirators. This information leads to his downfall and

Introduction: Today, the advancing gene technology provides humanity with numerous benefits such as Genetically Modified Food, CRISPER, and one of them is the use of DNA profiling for storing bio information. DNA fingerprint technology allows mapping of individual s genetic patterns that can be stored into the database system (What is DNA fingerprint? 2016). The ability to profile gene effectively, DNA fingerprinting is used as a problem solving tool in the justice system and medical science researches. At the same time, ethical and social issues such as privacy violations, human rights and the possibility of discrimination cannot be ignored. Biological Background: It is scientifically proven that DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) contains genetic material and highly specific to individual. DNA fingerprint can be tested by restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) methods and Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods. Although RFLP is considered more accurate, due to the cost and requirement of longer period to complete, it is not commonly used. While only 1% of genetic materials are unique to individual, the short tandem repeats (STR) sequences called minisatellites can be used to distinguish all humans as it shows great variation between each person (What is DNA fingerprint? 2016). DNA fingerprinting technique involves a number of steps. The DNA sample from fluid, hair or any part of the

His unpredictable actions led to the deaths of the two men that posed the largest threat to the Triumvirate. By understanding the effect of shock, the value of initiative, and courage the Triumvirate commanders would carry the day. Mark Antony s understanding of enemy force structure and doctrine, the effects of culture, and experience as a leader allowed him to outwit his foe. PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT OF INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES The airline industry, like many other industries, is increasingly exposed to competition. Increased competition has two effects on firms: it creates downward pressures on output prices, and it creates incentives for improving productivity and efficiency. Many airlines have been forced to undertake major restructuring in order to meet these challenges. Many researchers have used different model to decompose changes in airline profitability into two components: productivity and price recovery ability. The study concluded that increased competition in international air transport markets has put pressures on carriers ability to raise prices. However input prices, like labor, fuel, materials, flight equipment, ground property and equipment have been increasing. They also demonstrated that airlines have made tremendous effort to improve efficiency to counteract such trends, yet large fluctuations in profitability are still an ongoing reality. • 20. How Young Goodman Brown Became Old Badman Brown Essay Nathaniel Hawthorne was a nineteenth century American writer of the Romantic Movement. Born in Salem, Massachusetts, in 1804, he was one of those rare writers who drew critical acclaim during his lifetime. Hawthorne used Salem as a setting for most of his stories, such as The Scarlet Letter, The Blithedale Romance, and Young Goodman Brown. Today, readers still appreciate Hawthorne s work for its storytelling qualities and for the moral and theological questions it raises. Author Terence Martin speculates that Goodman Brown s journey into the forest is best defined as a kind of general, indeterminate allegory, representing man s irrational drive to leave faith, home, and security temporarily behind, for whatever reason, to take a chance with one more errand onto the wilder shores of experience (Martin 92). It should not escape attention that Goodman Brown s wife, a lighthearted naive woman, has the name of Faith. Faith is by no means an unusual woman s name, but it is significant in this story that she is presented to us first as a very young bride with pink ribbons in her hair almost like a child (1264). This young woman is filled with hidden sin, yet she is said to be Godly. Because Faith was so honest and Godly, Young Goodman Brown put all of his faith in her, which made her the best of his worst enemies. Faith s ribbon is a description of her personality or her inner self. The pink ribbon that Faith wears is a symbol of purity. Faith s ribbon is found in the evil forest when Brown awakes, and that s when Faith is really seen as an unclear person. Faith is also said to have forsaken not only against Goodman Brown but also against God because she gave in to the likes of the devil. The ribbons provide continuity between faith as an ideal of a Puritan woman and as a sinner. Her pink

The campaign should be built constructed on strong and understandable messages, so that the target population can take action and pass on the message from its memorable key components. Descartes Surprise Ending in Discourse on Method In one of the most influential books in the history of Western philosophy, Rene Descartes outlines a method mental reasoning, which he applies to a wide variety of fields and intellectual endeavors. For the first few books of Discourse on the Method, Descartes outlines first how the method came about as he was a pupil at schooland had the realization that he was not actually learninganything important. He was therefore motivated to discover what truly constituted learning, knowledge, and truth. The philosopher can do this by doubting everything first. By doubting, he can use reason to discern what is real from unreal. Doubting is the focus of Book Two of Discourse on the Method. The method that Descartes applies to fields like geometry, which the author points out in Book Two. His doubting is more personal in Book Three. The surprise ending to Discourse on the Method comes when suddenly Descartes is no longer doubting something. He spends so much time in the first three books on doubting information, and letting go of his beliefs, that when he launches into his cogito ergo sum assertion, it comes to the reader as a great surprise. The surprise ending is that Descartes finds the first thing he cannot doubt, which is the fact that he exists. His existence is something that cannot be doubted, or else it would create a metaphysical conundrum: it is not possible to even think about doubting without first existing. The smallest thought cannot come from nothingness, and so,

It primarily publishes romances, largely directed towards female readers, under a variety of imprints. Some of these romances are historical, others are contemporary. Some are extremely explicit, while others are more innocent. While certain aspects of these different lines vary from imprint to imprint, there is a great deal of consistency to Harlequin s brand image. Almost everyone knows that a Harlequin is a romance, and the brand name is synonymous with romance, much like Coca Cola is synonymous with soda. Weaknesses The publishing industry is struggling in many areas. Customers have a great deal of other reading material they can access online. Readers can read cheaper, self published novels on their Kindle, or surf free content online. Also, the Harlequin image amongst some women is seen as out of date, given contemporary feminist mores. Opportunities Harlequin is seeking to enter the self publishing and e publishing market to diversify and modernize its options. Creating books solely for online reading suits the Harlequin model, given that there is a strong emphasis on creating disposable books for pleasure. Reading online, consumers will no longer have to get rid of their old Harlequins at garage sales, given that they can access the content virtually and dispose of it electronically when finished. • 29. The Problem Of E Waste E Waste may be described as a broad and growing range of electronics ranging from large household devices such as refrigerators, air conditioners, cell phones, personal stereos and consumer electronics to computers, which have been discarded by their users. (Puckett and Smith, 2002). While this description is accurate, it is slightly ambiguous about the length of time before a device can actually be considered waste. Often, owners discard their electronics long before they have reached the end of their actual life cycle in order to upgrade to a newer model. In most cases the outgoing device finds its way into the used market. This may prolong the life of the product by a few years, however all electronic items eventually reach a point... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With devices becoming increasingly affordable, the replacement time for common consumer electronics has also become shorter. Planned obsolescence is a significant contributor to the increase in purchase of consumer electronics. Many companies these days limit software updates and features to only a handful of new phones or tablets they offer, thus perpetuating the need to go out and purchase the new model. The average use time before a consumer replaces their mobile phone is only 18 months even though it s actual life cycle may be much longer than that. PCs and laptops are usually considered outdated within 3 4 years of purchase and are then replaced by their owners for newer and faster models. Studies have estimated e waste generation worldwide at 20 to 50 million tonnes per year with a steady increase of 8% to 10% annually. One of the methods to estimate the potential volume of e waste in the present and the future is by analyzing sales figures of commercial electronics. By taking into account how much we are buying, we may be able to approximate how much will be added to this waste stream a few years down the line when newly purchased devices become obsolete and are discarded. On the release of the latest iPad, electronic buy back firms stated that consumers were trading in their older tablets at an unprecedented rate for the new iteration even though their older tablets were completely functional and working.

There are times I take the hard times with a grain of salt. I hope I have shown them an unmatched compassion and tenderness, but also taught them to be tough. I hope that they learn to always possess the quality of being resilient. There is a time and place to be both soft and strong. I want them to know that it s not a weakness, it s a strength to be both a soft kind person. There is a strength in being soft in being able to bend with the wind because once the storm is over they will be the one still standing. I hope my daughter learns that being a woman today is not easy. I hope that my little girl learns that her opinion will be

Examining The Life Of Sylvia Plath As Seen Within Examining the Life of Sylvia Plath as Seen Within Lady Lazarus Sylvia Plath s poem, Lady Lazarus , was greatly about the author s life: the influence by her suicide attempts, years of troubled mental health, and stressed relationships with her father and husband. The opening lines of Lady Lazarus read I have done it again. / One year in every ten (Plath 1 2). These two lines immediately reference Plath s suicide attempts, her first of three being in 1953 when she was just a university student, where she took a bottle of sleeping pills, water, and a blanket down to her cellar and proceeded to down sleeping pills until she became unconscious (Steinberg). However, strangely enough, it is debated as to whether her suicide attempts were supposed to be just that, attempts, and not with the final goal of ending her life. It is argued that Plath intended to be found, even leaving a note for her neighbor, whom she knew would be home, listing her doctor s contact information, and hiring a nanny to look after the children, further exemplifying her strange relationship with death (Steinberg). However, the gas from the stove, which she used to kill herself, also seeped through the floor, knocking out her neighbor below (Steinberg). This factor of her suicide attempt was not planned for, and may have been what ultimately resulted in her death. Though theatrical, it is worth noting that the women on her father s side had a history of mental health issues (Herrman). Plath herself even calls out the theatrics: [i]t s the theatrical / / Comeback in broad day / To the same place, the same face, the same brute / Amused shout: // A miracle! / That knocks me out (51 56). From depictions of a polygonal frog being run over in Frogger, to stealing cars in a realistic environment a la Grand Theft Auto, this topic has sparked serious debate. The traditional liberal stance is that the government should forcefully regulate the video game industry. The conservative stance is that the industry does a good job of rating itself, and that government should not get involved. Some articles claimed that there was a link between video game violence and violence in real life. Others said that no such link existed. Neither side quoted any solid sources, however. Many of the medical journals lumped together TV, movies, and video games in their articles. Most of the psychology journals advocated more parent involvement and more social interaction. Of the non medical sources, most were news articles. A few used the articles previously mentioned about how video games and violence were supposedly linked to prove their point. Some were about courts who had thrown out cases that claimed that video games were responsible for causing children to commit horrible acts like Columbine. Most of the major news sources tended to stay neutral on this issue. They only reported games that had record breaking sales or the must have games. Emerging in tsarist Russia during the realism period of literature, Turgenev examines the subject of changing generations in his novel. In Fathers and Sons the new generation is represented by the characters Arkady Nikolaevich Kirsanov and Evgeny Vasilich Bazarov, recent university graduates and self proclaimed nihilists. Nihilism, a term popularized by Turgenev himself, is a broad philosophical school of thought that debases traditional values of life. He simply disavows frivolity, values practicality and thinks life to be simply a question of getting bread to eat (48). But Bazarov and Arkady make no attempt to improve conditions as they see them. They believe that the society that has been built is superficial and antiquated and must be brought down, but have no plans to undertake any sort of reconstruction: We shall destroy, because we are a force, observed Arkady. (49). Turgenev shows nihilism to be a destructive force only, incapable of engineering anything better than that which it seeks to destroy. However, throughout the novel, Arkady is fraught with internal conflict over his philosophy, and begins to slowly stray from his tenets. When staying at his father s, Arkady makes a point of a defending Pavel to Bazarov. Pavel is very much the opposite of Bazarov (who is Turgenev s embodiment of nihilism), acting always with an air of

It is said that this year alone, because of the El Nino weather pattern and the devastation it has cause throughout the country, the food price inflation will only keep rising and on many different items we have to eat every day. To name a few, eggs are expected to rise 2%, fruit and nuts 4.5%, vegetables 4%, and meats 4.5% (CBC News, 2015). It is clear, and the one thing we know for sure is how much more money that will go into purchasing foods and how much less money will be in our wallets. We know this poses a huge problem, it s hard not to notice, especially when thinking about the combination of the rising cost of food, with stagnant or falling incomes, coupled with the unemployment rate and rise in the cost of living. All these factors are the reason people just cannot spend the amount of money they once use to on food. In the 1940 s people would use 24% of their personal disposable income on the purchase of food for the home or away from home, on already prepared food such as that in restaurants. In a survey done by the USDA, Americans today were only using about 9.8% of their personal disposable income on food (Volpe, 2013). This is an extremely large difference and is without question caused by the economy. When the economy gets tough, most everyone suffers in a sense and it s always hard having very little money to spend on food. When this happens we tend to tap into a part of our brain to find the best ways to acclimate to
