Short English Essays
Writing an essay on the topic of "Short English Essays" can be a challenging task, as it requires a
combination of creativity, linguistic prowess, and the ability to convey meaningful ideas within a
limited word count. The difficulty lies in the necessity to encapsulate a compelling narrative or
argument in a concise manner while ensuring clarity and coherence.
Firstly, choosing a captivating topic for a short English essay poses a challenge. The brevity of
the essay format demands a topic that is not only interesting but also manageable within the
given constraints. This requires careful consideration and often involves a delicate balance
between depth and brevity.
Crafting a thesis statement that succinctly captures the essence of the essay is another hurdle.
The limited space means that each word must carry significant weight, and the thesis should be
both compelling and reflective of the essay's purpose.
Moreover, maintaining a coherent structure within the essay is crucial. Each paragraph must
contribute to the overall flow of ideas while avoiding unnecessary details. Achieving this
balance can be daunting, as the writer must constantly prioritize essential information and
discard extraneous elements.
Conciseness is a double-edged sword, as it demands a precise choice of words and phrases. The
challenge lies in expressing complex thoughts and nuanced arguments without sacrificing clarity
or depth. This requires a keen understanding of the English language and the ability to convey
ideas effectively within a limited word count.
In conclusion, the difficulty in writing an essay on "Short English Essays" stems from the need
to navigate the constraints of brevity while still delivering a compelling and coherent piece of
writing. It demands careful topic selection, a well-crafted thesis, a structured narrative, and the
ability to express ideas concisely. However, despite these challenges, the process can be made
more manageable with practice and a systematic approach to essay writing.
If you find yourself struggling with such tasks, remember that help is available. Various services,

Vitamin C And Its Effect On The Body
Introduction: Students were prompted to do this experiment because they were
curious to see if size affected the levels of vitamin C people were getting from
oranges. Students hope to learn what size has more vitamin C and be able to inform
people which size has the most benefits. The purpose of this experiment is to test the
levels of vitamin Cin oranges of varying sizes. The students conducting the
experiment will do this by using an iodine indicator to test the levels of vitamin C
in oranges by adding the iodine substance. The iodine substance will be added to a
portion of oranges varying in sizes, the sample will change color and the level of
vitamin C will be indicated through the color the sample becomes. The lighter the

consequences of lacking Vitamin C can get severe. Scurvy caused by a serious
Vitamin C shortage in the body can result in a debilitating condition. This condition
puts the body in a feeble state causing a lack of energy, tooth decay, gum
inflammation, and bleeding problems. According to Dana Dovey, a reporter for
Medical Daily, the lack of Vitamin C can cause acne, sickness, and even to a certain
extent, death.
This essential vitamin can be found in diets consisting of citrus fruits, green
vegetables, and potatoes. As excellent sources of vitamins, one serving of these
foods contain at least ten percent of the recommended daily allowance. An
international minimum standard for Vitamin C is ninety mg per day for a male
adult, seventy five mg per day for a female adult, and one hundred to one hundred
twenty mg per day for a nursing female.
Known for its concentration of Vitamin C, oranges are a great snack. They have
many benefits to asset your body. Oranges are round citrus fruits with coarse textured
skin. They are usually orange in color just like their flesh beneath the skin. Oranges
usually range from approximately two to three inches in diameter.

The Importance Of Self Abuse Essay
Some use makeup to feel glamorous and others use make up as a way to take time
for themselves. However, should children be introduced to the world of makeup?
At what age is it appropriate to use makeup? It is important for children to build a
solid sense of self before introduction to make up. There are many negative factors
that can develop in a child s mind by introducing them to makeup at a young age,
such as self esteem issues, and blurring what children know as appearance and
reality. Many believe that makeup can be a way to express our identity, but I
believe makeup can be destructive to the development of children and their
identities. When children are young, their self esteem is relatively high because
we as humans are not born with insecurities. As children, we all, typically, had a
very innocent and positive way of seeing ourselves and the world. Many may still
wonder, what is the big deal with letting children play with childhood makeup sets?
For one, if a child is growing up to be comfortable in their body makeup can create
many insecurities that can damage their self image and self worth, but obviously,
these are not the initial reactions that a child may have when they receive their first
makeup kit. Initially, they will be excited with the idea of being able to wear
something that adults wear, but after exploring with makeup over time a child may
think they need make up to look attractive and that their natural beauty is not good
enough. For example,
Effects Of Cocaine And Its Effects On America
Devastating Effects of Cocaine
To understand the devastating effects of cocaine one needs to understand its
history and how it became one of the most potent drugs in today s society. Cocaine
is extracted from the coca leaves and is one of the oldest and natural stimulants.
Ancient Incas and native Peruvians chewed cocas leaves for religious ceremonies
and to counter the effects of living in thin mountain air and air sickness prevention.
To this day Peruvian markets sell coca products, from teas, soft drinks, cocktails and
candy; its use is accepted and is an integral part of their culture and way of life. So
the question one must ask is when did this natural product become a notorious drug
that is abused by many?

It s early study, as documented in this article states cocaine use has many benefits,
alleging that it had been successful in the treatment of degeneration of the tissues,
anemia, phthisis, long lasting febrile diseases and also treat morphine addiction. It
went on to state, the effects of one addiction would not be replaced by another
(Markel, 1360). In 1886, cocaine gained popularity and a further boost when John
Pemberton included coca leaves as an ingredient in his new soft drink, Coca Cola
and by the turn of the century the euphoric drink was popular for its advertised
claim to its energizing effects on the consumer, it relieves exhaustion...you will be
surprised how quickly it will ease the Tired Brain soothe the Rattled Nerves and
restore wasted energy to both Mindy and Body. (DEAmuseaum.org, 2015). Helping
to skyrocket the popularity of Coca Cola soft drink and grow consumer demand.
From the 1850s to the early 1900s, cocaine and opium laced elixirs were largely
used by people of all social classes. Prominent figures, such as Thomas Edison and
movie stars; promoted the miraculous effects of cocaine tonics and elixirs. Notably
the drug became popular in the silent film industry and the pro cocaine messages
coming out in films at that time influenced millions. Its reputation increased thru the
years and as its abuse increased and with it so did fatalities, resulting in United
Night by Elie Wisel and Of Mice and Men by John
Steinbeck...
Night by Elie Wisel and Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck are both books that
have differences and similarities in the relationships of their main characters.
These characters are Elie and his father, which are two Jews trapped in a
concentration camp for the book Night. The other book Of Mice and Men includes
two other characters, who are Lennie and George. These two characters have very
close friendship, and take care of each other. These two relationships differ and
coincide, in how they treat each other, and in how they care for one another even
when they don t have to. The relationships of the characters in both books are both
fairly close, but still face many hardships along the way. As in all books the
characters have a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A quotation from this novel of this is when Slim said You had to George, I swear
you had to just after the murder place. The quote relates to the relationship of Elie
and his father by showing how they both felt the same burden about others. Lastly,
another similarity between the relationships is how close they are throughout the
novels. For example, one way is as mentioned earlier, they care for each other by
feeling remorse when something happens to them such as in Night or when they
do something that might put them in danger or make them ill. An example is
when George says Lennie for God sakes don t drink so much. This relates to Elie
and his father by showing us how they cared for each other s health. All of this
shows that even if characters are from different novels there are still many
qualities in their relationships that coincide. The relationship between Elie and his
father, and the relationship between George and Lennie differed in many aspects.
One example, of this is that George and Lennie from the novel Of Mice and Men
had a relationship of tough love even though they cared for each other, compared to
Elie and his father which still loved each other but were not so harsh on each other.
For instance, George always would say I would be better off without you Lennie.
Even though he was tough on him George still cared for him. This quote relates to
Elie and his dad because it explains how this made their relationships differ. On the

Thomas Foster s Themes Traced in Mulan In his book How to Read Literature Like
a Professor, Thomas Foster explains many reoccurring themes in literature, and
shows how to recognize them and in some instances shows certain works where
they occur. By reading this guide to literature, one may gain a deeper understanding
of the work itself and of the author s intent in writing it. However, Foster s methods
can also be applied to films. A film that contains many of the various themes, models,
symbolism, and devices discussed in his book is Walt Disneys Mulan. Mulan is a
character type with which people are familiar. Foster discusses this process of
association in the chapter Now ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After Mulan has failed in her encounter with the matchmaker, she goes home and
begins singing the marvelous, gripping song called Reflection . She asks, When
will my reflection show who I am inside? She realizes that her fair appearance does
not reflect her feelings. Singing this song, she washes away her makeup, and
gives up on becoming the perfect daughter and bride; it is a baptism. Maybe it
would be key to mention that during this song, Mulan sings in a downpour of rain.
Just like Foster describes in his book, Mulan is baptized in the rain. Disney movies
are not notorious for their violent nature. So, when something violent occurs in a
Disney movie, or an individual (or animal in many cases) dies, it must carry some
kind of importance. In the chapter of his book More Than It s Gonna Hurt You ,
Fosters says that there is usually more to violence than just violence. When Mulan
is struck by the sword of Shan Yu, many more things happen to her than a fatal
wound. She almost meets her demise, and for the first time, the reality of war sets
in. Mulan realizes that she is not invincible and grasps the perils of war for the first
time. When she receives medical attention for her wound, she is discovered to be a
woman. All she has worked for up until this point is now for naught, as she is
expelled from the army and her family name is disgraced. Another instance where
violence plays an important role is when Li Shang s

six months of free advertising with a paid six months of advertising (Ferrell

blocks for one day a week advertising (Ferrell Hartline, 2014). Distribution and

promote an online newspaper to varies readers than to use social media as an outlet
(Ferrell Hartline, 2014). The website HootSuite can help USA Today manage their
social media accounts like Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter (Hendrick, 2016).
HootSuite can provide insight into which post resonate with target populations

Variable Cost and Net Income Essay
Chapter 2 Questions
2 1. I agree with this statement. I would also like to add that cost behavior is also
identifying the key resources that are performed, resources used in performing these
activities, costs of the resources, and what the cost is driven from.
2 2. Two rules of thumb when analyzing cost behavior are to manage what the
company manufactures, sells, and to give advice as to where costs can be reduced.
2 3. Three examples of a variable cost are a 12% increase in the production of
dresses, which will cause a 12% increase in variable costs. A 10% increase in clothes

2 11. A break even analysis is a misnomer because the CVP is sometime referred to
the break even analysis. A break even point tells you at which point the profits
exceed the expenses. The CVP can be used to plan, and make decisions based on
sales or costs.
2 12. I do not agree with this statement because every company is different. One
company may have higher expenses then another, making their break even point
higher. It does not matter what industry it is, because the break even point will
always be different based upon revenue or expenses.
2 13. I agree with this statement because it is important that you choose the correct
method based upon your company s revenue, expenses, and net income. All three of
these are good methods, but there may be a more detailed plan that works better for
you.
2 14. Three ways of lowering a break even point are lowering your expenses, lower
the product levels and reducing your staff.
2 15. I agree with this statement because the incremental analysis will do the same as
the CVP, such as seeking the change in revenue, expenses, and income.
2 16. Operating leverage is the firm s ratio of fixed to variable costs. A highly
leveraged company may be risky because little changes in sales volume result in large
changes in net income.

The Pros And Cons Of Resistance
Resistance is a destructive and violent rejection. Resistance is commonly
understood as a rejection to accept and comply with something that causes doing in
opposition to the current events. Resistance movement is an organized effort by
some part of people of a country to resist the legally established government or an
occupying power and to disrupt civil order and stability. I believe in the resistance
as I believe there can be no light without shadow; or rather, no shadow unless there is
also light. (149)
Resistance is related to power, and power is possible to understand as relational
and multiple in networks of productive interactions. Resistance is not by itself evil
or destructive , as well as not basically good , progressive or democratic . We have
to acknowledge that not only do fascist or religious fundamentalist resistance exist
but are common examples of how people try to undermine established power
relations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also is one of the origins of the resistance movement. Resistance was the
rejection of all these things: the ceasefire, the Armistice and Collaboration. It also
became a rejection of the right wing politics of Vichy, and, most difficult of all, a
rejection of the mythic status and popularity of Petain. It was a battle for the
liberation of the country, but it was also a battle for the minds and hearts of the
French people, and many Resisters have said that breaking the hold of Petainism
was the most formidable task in the first two years. After November 1942 it was
easier, for in that month the Germans occupied the whole of France and Petain
insisted on staying as head of what was now quite openly a subservient regime. But
sympathy, support, and even adoration, for Petain lived on. It still exists among a

The Effects Of Technology On Technology
Children are growing up with all this technology interfering with the children s
childhood and health. Parents should limit screen time for their children two hours
a day. Technology is over powering our world today. Parents shouldn t introduce
technology to their children s life quite yet wait until the children are at least three
or four years of age. The use of digital device during a young age can interfere with
the childs health. If the children are exposed to digital devices when they are young

Therefore, the parents should talk to their young children so they can start

The Effect of Respect on Morality Depicted in The Guest...
The prevailing theme in The Guest and Shooting an Elephant is the effect of respect
on morality. In the former, the main character Daru exhibits a great deal of respect
and hospitality to the Arab, especially considering the circumstances. In the latter, the
Burmans exhibit no respect to the police officer in the event of the elephant display,
or in his day to day life. These opposite scenarios have a distinct effect on the morality
of the main characters. Respect has a distinct effect on morality which differs
depending on if respect is being strived for or shown.

The police officer s need for the brief sustenance that comes with finally being
respected which caused him to turn his back on his beliefs is proof of our sad human
nature. By buying into the moral of this story and following your morality, one will
not end up remorseful about the morals that one has neglected to follow.
In The Guest, the main character Daru is also put in a moral conflict. Although he
evades said conflict by giving the Arab his own choice of punishment or freedom,
his underlying respect and hospitality causes his guest to deliver himself unto the
hands of his enemy. Because of the hospitality that Daru shows the Arab, he feels
obligated to do the moral thing and serve his sentence. He condemns himself to
prison at the hands of the French the same way that a person, working for a generous
manager who continually cheers him on despite his repeated failures, will always try
his best to improve his work. Although this is an extreme case of said example, they
both demonstrate the power of respect, hospitality, and generosity on morality, and
that an input of goodness leads to an output of the same.
When morality is positively influenced by respect, positive morals are demonstrated,
and when influenced negatively, the opposite is resultantly true. Using examples in
The Guest, and Shooting an Elephant, human nature displays its bittersweet edge. In
The Guest, Daru s prevailing respect to the Arab drives him to
The Art Of Paul Cezanne
Introduction Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso were both profoundly influenced by
the art of Paul CГ©zanne, somewhat ironically since the latter is reported to have
been quite uncertain of his artistic contributions and anxious about his legacies
(Merleau Ponty, 1945). Picasso described CГ©zanne as my one and only master ;
while Matisse noted that it is undoubtedly to CГ©zanne that I owe the most . The
Large Bathers was one of two final paintings produced by CГ©zanne in 1906, the
year of his death. At this stage Matisse had acquired a reputation as an upcoming
artistic leader via an exhibition in 1905 (Bio, n.d. #1); while Picasso was a 25 year
old prodigy who had already secured lucrative patronage (Bio, n.d. #2). The three
paintings of interest must be considered in the context of their artists evolution. To
examine the relationship between the three paintings, I will first briefly summarise
the artistic trends of the day to provide context, then examine The Large Bathers. I
will then compare and contrast Matisse s Bonheur de Vivre and Picasso s Les
Demoiselles d Avignon, both with The Large Bathers and with each other. Europe,

Comparing Henry David Thoreau s Resistance To Civil...
Henry David Thoreau, a transcendentalist, lived in a small cabin within the wooded
property of his good friend, Ralph Waldo Emerson. Thoreau, being a close friend
of Emerson, was of no surprise inspired by his works. The distinct difference
between the two was that Emerson was a well known philosopher and a father with
a family to maintain. While Thoreau was just a bum, mooching off his best friend. It
s pretty safe that Thoreau lived a life with no responsibilities being that he had no
wife, children or a job at that. He didn t have a worry in the world, but because of
that he saw many things that the governmentwould do as unfair. Which is what led
him to write Resistance to Civil Government .
The essay is essentially a rant about how unfair and unjust the American government
was. If the title itself wasn t clear enough Thoreau s first line in the essay was That
government is best which governs least. (964). Stating the government is always
poking in your business and demanding things from their citizens. Such as taxes and
laws that seem outlandish to some. Thoreau is not saying that the American society is
better off with no government but rather I ask for, not at once no government, but at
once a better government. (965). Thoreau s ideal government is one that has a ...

still have unjust laws and the oppression of the government. What Thoreau was
trying to get us to do or understand is to not submit to something you don t fully

to possibly have the government change their ways on how they operate as a

The influence the social media, self esteem, diet and sex have on body image
dissatisfaction.
ABSTRACT
The influence the social media, self esteem, diet and sex have on body image
dissatisfaction was investigated using a multiple regression method. The four
predictor variables were sex; social media; diet; and self esteem, the criterion
variable was body image dissatisfaction. The study consisted of 50 participants, 35
females and 15 males. All participants were given a self report questionnaire, which
contained 16 questions that measured the four predictor variables and the criterion
variable. The findings revealed that the social media, diet and self esteem had a
significant relationship with body image dissatisfaction, however sex was a non
significant predictor of body image dissatisfaction. The results imply that the social
media, low self esteem and dieting results to high levels of body image dissatisfaction.
INTRODUCTION
Body image dissatisfaction is arising in modern society, amongst all sexes due to the
media promoting ideal bodily features. Western culture has consistently emphasized,
through the media that the ideal body figure for a woman is to be thin (Thompson
Harlem, New York
Harlem, New York in the Twenties was a place where colored people had migrated
to show their talents. It was a time when African American Artist, Writers, Dancers,
Musicians, and Doctors decided to show the world how spectacular they were. Duke
Ellington, Billie Holiday, and Langston Hughes were just a few famous names that
arrived during this time. One sensational woman stood out among the rest, her name
was Josephine Baker. She took a stand and fought for what she believed in, she was
a strong and passionate women and she never let anyone get in the way of the things
she loved to do. No matter how risquГ© or dangerous it may have been.
On June 3rd, 1906 Freda Josephine McDonald was born to a washerwoman, Carrie
McDonald and a Vanderville drummer Eddie Carson. Shortly after Josephine was
born her Father abandoned their family and her Mother remarried a unemployed man
named Arthur Martin. Their family would grow to include a son and two more
daughters. When Josephine was just a child she started working to help her mother
support their family. She would clean houses and babysit for wealthy white families. (
Louck, Haberman)
When she was Thirteen Josephine started waitressing at The Old Chauffer s Club.
This is where she met her first husband Willie Wells. Josephine left home and began
her own life. Although her marriage to Willy Wells didn t last long, she would keep
picking up work to support herself. She started dancing with The Jones Family Band

The last straw which led to the demise of these two CPA firm were PTL club to L

pointed out in the case, whenever Jim Bakker needed money, he could just simply

The time line of H amp;L s audit of PTL Club is: End of fiscal year (May 31, 1984),
Audit Completion Date (Dual dated as August 31, 1984 and October 24, 1984).
Based on the timeline and the above definition of subsequent events, I believe that

occurring after the balance sheet date of May 31, 1984 depends on the materiality
of the over sales occurring during May 31, 1984 and October 24, 1984. It was said
that over sales occurred shortly after May 31, 1984. Then how big was the over
sales between May 31, 1984 and October 24, 1984? Was the number material enough

Family The Taino Indians had sturdy familial ties and related families lived
together. They lived in very organized kingdoms and small villages, their order was
decided by the chiefs. The Taino s appearance was bronze colored, average height,
dark, flowing coarse hair, and dark and slightly oblique dark eyes. The men were
typically naked or sported a breech cloth called nagua. Single women walked
around naked, while married women wore an apron made of cotton or palm fibers
to cover their genitalia. The length of the apron determined their rank size. The
Taino culture was a polygamous one. The male cacique as the leader was
permitted to have more wives than the other men in the villages. A woman whom
was married to a cacique was considered a great honor. Church Among the Taino
community, there was a hierarchy of creators. The Yocahu was the highest creator.
Jurakan was constantly angry and governed the power of the hurricane. Other
Gods were the Zemi and Maboya. The Zemis was a God of both sexes and it was
characterized by images of human and animal figures. The Taino s thought that by
being in the good graces of their zemis, they were sheltered from disease, hurricanes,
or war disasters. As an offering, they would prepared cassava bread. The Maboyas
were nocturnal Gods that ruined crops and were feared among the Tainos. Thus, they

How Can An Actor Be A Cultural Icon
Can an actor be a cultural icon? A cultural icon can be everyone and everything
person, thing, buuilding. Cultural icon is someone that idolized others. Some
people are thinking that actress, singer or poltics are a cultural icon, but some of
them disagree. Angelina Jolie is a cultral icon because of actress, humanitarian
work, and role model. One of the reasons why Angelina Jolie is a cultural icon is
actress. Angelina is one of the best Hollywood actress. For example, Angelina Jolie
won the Oscar are best supporting actres for Girl, Interrupted (Rebecca Ford). This
quote shows that she won the Oscar price. It is the one of the most important
prices for actress. To won is not easy, so she must be very good. She does not give

Even when they have enough money they do not give to others, they prefer to
keep this moeny for themselves. It is a good character trait. She is not miserly. If,
she can help she is doing this. For example, Jolie adopted a son from Cambodia

kids or be enough brave to adopted. It is so courageous decision to undertake to make

Essay On Medical Marijuana
Medical Marijuana: Does It Do More Harm Than Good? Medical Marijuana is a
growing legalization movement in the United States. Currently, 23 states have
legalized marijuana use for either medical or recreational purposes. Many say that the
drug has many health benefits and should be made legal. Marijuana, however, is still
a harmful drug and proponents of the drug deemphasize its adverse history and tend
to focus on its benefits. Research has shown that not only is marijuana ineffective, but
detrimental to an individual s health. The legalization of marijuana for medical use
may inadvertently cause unintended consequences that outweigh its medicinal
benefits. Although the government may try to control the distribution of the medical

Introduction of medical marijuana will lead to habitual smoking. The health risks
include impaired memory, altered senses, difficulty thinking, and even mental
diseases( Marijuana and the Mind ). It can also lead to more serious conditions such
as cancer, strokes, and heart attacks.(Rabin) Apart from its numerous health risks,
marijuana is highly addictive. Addiction can be very dangerous and will often times
lead to drug reliance. Violence and uncontrolled behavior are results of withdrawal
from drug reliance( Marijuana Addiction ). Moreover, there are much more dangerous
addictive drugs on the market and medical marijuana is a gateway to addiction and
drug abuse( Gateway Drugs Lead). The legalization of marijuana could affect the
lives of many who are unaware of the risks. Although some argue otherwise,
marijuana has more negative health effects than benefits. Marijuana as previously
stated often has a therapeutic use, but it is classified as having a high potential of
abuse and no legitimate therapeutic use(Zimmerman). Smoking marijuana damages
the brain, heart, lungs, and immune system. Mark J. Pletcher of the University of

degree, it is the truth, but in today s view, merely being a good accountant is not

Compare And ContrastThe Tragedy Of Julius Caesar And...
The Stepping Stone of Murder
Rarely in history has murder been viewed as righteous, but in the cases of Julius
Caesar and Jean Paul Marat, it was praised rather than shunned. When diving into the
stories of these two murders there are noticeable comparisons between Marc Antony
in The Tragedy of Julius Caesar and Jacques Louis David, artist of The Death of
Marat. Both presented their fallen friend in a better light and manipulated the masses
to serve their side, using murder as a stepping stone to greater things.
Upon their friend s murder, Marc Antony and Jacques Louis David attempted to
present their friend in an appealing way that would improve their legacy, yet Marc
Antony did so verbally and Jacques Louis David through artistry. In The Tragedy of
Julius Caesar, after Brutus spoke plainly to the citizens of Rome, Antony slyly
addressed them by choosing to remember Caesar as a great leader through a
memorial that was based on a twisted truth. One tactic Antony used was to remind the
crowd that [Antony] thrice presented [Caesar] a kingly crown,/ Which he did thrice
refuse. Was this ambition?/ Yet Brutus says he was ambitious (Shakespeare III.ii.96
99). Through his words, Antony convinced the public of all that Caesar had done for
them, while simultaneously undermining the conspirator s argument against Caesar s
ambition. By disparaging the conspirators motives for murder and recognizing
Caesar as a great man who only wanted to serve his people, Antony presented him in

Outsourcing Jobs Causes a Negative Economic and Social Effect on American
Workers Do you work at the same company your father does? Does your father
work at the same company your Grandfather did? Few companies employ multiple
generations these days. Have you wondered what happened to all the jobs? One
reason for the decrease in jobs could be attributed to outsourcing. Merriam Webster s

corporation from outside and especially foreign or nonunion suppliers of parts it
formerly manufactured. To American workers, the definition means, you are

How do you search for a job when you have been out of the market for the past 20
years? More and more jobs today require college degrees. Many assembly line
workers started their jobs right out of high school, therefore, very few have college
degrees. It is harder to compete in today s job market. The insecurity of finding
employment is ever looming.
There are jobs that can be had rather quickly; i.e., low wage jobs like fast food or
retail. It is impossible to support a family on a minimum wage. Converting middle
wage jobs to foreign countries leaves a smaller job pool workers must fight to get

There is a clichГ© that says, customer loyalty starts with employee loyalty. Working

Employees that mistrust the company will not feel loyalty to the entity that provides

ABSTRACT
ICT have become commonplace entities in all aspects of life. Across the past twenty
years the use of ICT has fundamentally transformed the practices and procedures of
nearly all forms of exertion within business and governance. Education is a very
socially focused activity and quality education has traditionally been connected with
strong teachers having high degrees of personal contact with learners. The use of ICT
in education lends itself to more student centred learning settings. But with the world
moving swiftly into digital media and information, the role of ICT in education is
becoming more and more essential and this importance will continue to grow and
develop in the 21st century.
Introduction Digital Era is also known as Information Age , or New Media Age .
Digital Era helps to create knowledge based society surrounded by high technology
which helps individuals to explore their personal needs. In the present scenario,

What Role Does Music Play In The Hobbit
When you turn on the radio, everybody that the sound can reach will typically
suggest to play their favorite band or genre of music.Whether it is alternative, punk
rock, or smooth jazz, music is something that everybody enjoys listening to. This is
no exception in the novel, The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. Music plays an important
role in this book where you frequently read songs sung by dwarves, elves, and
goblins. Although all of these magical beings sing songs that may look similar at first
glance, these tunes could not be more different! In chapter one of The Hobbit, thirteen
dwarves begin singing a song about an adventure over Misty Mountains and taking
back the gold and treasure that the evil dragon, Smaug, stole from the them. The
last line of the song states, We must away, ere break of day, to win our harps and
gold from him! The dwarves were exceptionally determined to march up to Smaug
and take the back the precious gold that was rightfully theirs. The tone of the song
was very bold and adventurous. This is proved by the length of the song. The song
sung by the dwarves is so long that the when you read it, you feel as if you are with...

This song is shorter, and much more peculiar and mystifying than the tune sung by
the dwarves. Almost every stanza ends with a Ha, ha! this is a small, but important
factor to the mystery of the song. It leaves you with many questions. Why are they
laughing? What are they laughing at? As mentioned at the beginning of this
paragraph, the song sung by the elves is much shorter than the dwarves tune. The
length of this song contributes to the mysterious tone. If this song was long and
drawn out, the reader would no longer be left with questions about the song. They
would know why the elves were laughing, and they would also know the answers to
the questions the elves asked the group of travellers. Without the tone and length of
the song the mystery and suspense would be
Social Media And Low Self-Esteem Levels
Self esteem is defined as how a person feels and values his or her self, and the
evaluation of one s self esteem is determined by the answer to the question am I
good enough? . Among young adults today, low self esteem seems to be more
common and a larger problem than it has been at any other point in the past, and
the issue needs to be explored further. There are many challenges to achieving
healthy self esteem levels, with social media and social anxiety being very
common among young adults. There are many enablers to achieving high self
esteem levels as well, for young adults, this can include physical activity, as well as
having supportive relationships. As a nurse, it is important that there is enough
knowledge to provide a point of care strategy for patients, including young adults
with low self esteem. Social media use is one of the challenges that young adults
face regarding their self esteem levels. Findings from Youth Central stating that
62% of young people felt that social media and advertising in the media impacted
their self esteem levels in a negative way (as cited in Berman White, 2013). Social
media profiles are often well constructed and also well thought out, and often only
show and emphasize the positive characteristics of either the user themselves or the
life that he or she lives (Woods Scott, 2016). Viewing profiles that are well
constructed can be linked to a decrease in the self esteem of the viewers, because of
the view that he or she is
Important Components Of A Virtual Team Performance
Essay
One of the most important components in any type of team is communication.
Excellent communication between the team members is important to achieve the
team goals. Talking about achieving goals of the team, it is central to have shared
team goals. Also, mutual respect and trust among the team members are main
components of the teamas well. There are five identified components of a virtual
team. There differentiators commitment and engagement, shared processes for
decision making, information flow, trust, and collaboration are the most important
components of optimal virtual team performance (Derosa Lepsinger, 2010, p. 51).
Not all teams perform the same functions; however, some teams use a similar
approach to reach the goals. There are many types of teams in today s business
world and those teams have similarities in a way they approach the goals. Teams
today are more diverse and more open to the news changes compare to the teams in

Accounting Theory
Assignment Task
The four largest Australian Banks have faced considerable pressure from the
community and the government in recent times. This pressure has arisen due to their
interest rate increases in association with their high reported earnings. As accountants,
we are responsible for preparing financial statements and calculating the profit
figures.
In your opinion, do you think the big banks are managing their reported earnings to
show lesser profits than what they are actually earning (i.e. using earnings
management techniques)? You are required, and must, read and incorporate
academic journal articles and other relevant materials to justify your viewpoint.

Accounting can be broadly defined as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to do so, it is necessary to understand and define earnings Management.
Definition of Earnings Management
Healy and Wahlen (1999) define earnings management as:
Earnings management occurs when managers use judgement in financial reporting
and in structuring transactions to alter financial reports to either mislead some
stakeholders about the underlying economic performance of the company or to
influence contractual outcomes that depend on reported accounting numbers.
Another definition is given by Fields et al. (2001) who state that:
Earnings management occurs when managers exercise their discretion over
accounting numbers with or without restrictions. Such discretion can be either firm
value maximizing or opportunistic .
The above definitions highlight the point that managerial intent is a criterion for
earnings management (Spohr 2005). Several academic literatures seek to point out
the activities which can be considered to be earnings management. However, as the
definition of earnings management does not rely on any one item of the income
statement, it does not need to be directly connected to reported earnings. Its impact is
through accounting numbers and may also be directed at financial ratios as opposed
to earnings (Schipper 1989). Dechow and Skinner (2000) have classified earnings
management as follows:

The Common Genetic Birth Defects
One of the most common genetic birth defects is Down syndrome which is a
congenital disorder caused from a chromosome defect. It causes impairments and
physical abnormalities. This is a condition where a child is born with an extra
copy of their 21st chromosome. According to the National Down Syndrome
Society (NDSS), 1 in 700 babies are born with DS. There is not an exact cause of
how DS happens but there is an explanation as to what happens. When there is any
case of reproduction, genes from both parents are passed to the children. Within
these genes there are chromosomes and the child is supposed to receive 23 pairs of
chromosomes or 46 total. Children with DS end up with 3 copies or an extra partial
copy of chromosome 21 instead of 2... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Children with DS often grow slowly and as they become an adult they are shorter
than normal. Their neck can have excess fat and skin which makes it look shorter
than normal. Short, stocky arms and legs along with a wide space between the big
toe and second toe is also a physical body symptom. As for face shapes and features
they can have slanted eyes, nasal bridge that looks pushed in, small ears that look low
on the head, irregularly shaped mouth and tongue. A child s tongue can partly stick
out and the teeth can come in late and in a different order than other children. Most
children with DS have mild to moderate cognitive disabilities such as impulsive
behavior, short attention span and slow learning capabilities. Some health issues that
are often symptoms of DS are heart defects, hypothyroidism, eye conditions, hearing
and dental problems, respiratory infections and depression. (What is Down Syndrome
) Children and adults with DS can face many major health concerns during their life.
A few of the most common include repetitive and obsessive compulsive behaviors,
autism spectrum conditions, neuropsychological problems, and inattentive behaviors.
Young children with DS that have limitations in language and communication skills,
cognition, and non verbal problem solving abilities present with increased likelihood
of developing: Disruptive, impulsive, inattentive, hyperactive and oppositional
behaviors; anxious,
Who Is Molano Alienated In The Dispossessed
Colombia s guerrillas and paramilitaries have affected the country for decades; the
economy in general, the wealthy, the poor, but mostly, those who have been forced
to leave their homes because of a violent threat. In the novel The Dispossessed, by
Alfredo Molano, this situation is revealed in a very powerful way, unmasking the
stories of different characters, Molano himself included. Characters like Osiris,
Nubia, and Molano were constantly affected by withdrawal throughout the novel.
These violently dispossessed people s separation from their home is alienating
because they are forced to develop a new lifestyle without their families. Molano s
personal anecdote, differing from the rest, involved displacement in a unique way. He

Osiris felt desperate without her family and explained, The truth is I hadn t had
any real peace of mind without her. You ve got to have the people you love around
you, specially in the kind of times we re living in (Molano 170). Even though
Osiris s life was somewhat stable at the time taking into account everything she
had gone through not being with her daughter was killing her. She reiterated that
she wanted to see her family, and be with them, because the fact is,
notwithstanding that food, clothes, and a house can be replaced, she knew no one
would ever take over her daughter s place in her life. She was aware of this, and
even asked her daughter to come to Bogota, knowing that [they d] all worry a lot
less if [they] were together (Molano 171). Osiris needed the people she loved the
most, her daughter and grandchildren, to go through the toughest of times with her;
only that way could she live through it. They can be hungry, hurt, or homeless, but if
they re together, they ll be happy. It ends up being a simple task for one to realize
that the most difficult part of displacement is leaving a family
Taxi Driver Quotes
Travis Bickle is a veteran of the Vietnam War and now works as a taxi driver in New
York. All through the night, he goes on working alone in a metropolitan city, because
he can t sleep at night.
Travis lives alone, without his family, any friend and lover, so he doesn t talk to
anybody, but he spent watching porn and thinking about himself. He seems to be
alienated from others and the society, at the same time he has already noticed his
lonely situation. In Taxi Driver, Travis feels loneliness which ruins him gradually and
finally makes him almost kill himself.
In the early 1970s, a scriptwriter, Paul Schrader wrote the script of Taxi Driver, a
story of a lonely man. In 1946, Schrader was born in a strict Calvinist family in

General Liability Insurance Essay
Drones and Your General Liability Insurance
Drones. Once thought to be years away, are increasing in number. From cutting edge
real estate tours to crop surveillance, many businesses are investing in drones to assist
with day to day operations. Drones offer business owners a real competitive
advantage within their industry.
The Benefits of Having a Drone
More and more operating a business is becoming increasingly challenging. Fewer
barriers to entry make earning more money harder each day. With increased
competition, many businesses are forced to reduce costs in every aspect of their
business. Many businesses find that drones are a great way for them to be
competitive, without adding an annual salary to their books. Drones are also capable

While in use, drones can cause accidents and injuries, exposing your business to
potential liabilities. For instance, a drone taking surveillance pictures could fall from
the sky and strike someone in the head down below. Without the proper general
liability insurance, how would your business cover the costs of the damages?
General Liability Insurance and Drones
There are many forms of business insurance. Whether you need insurance for a car or
for your business property, you won t have trouble finding an insurance solution that
is perfect for you. Although drones are new technology, and many insurance
companies may not have a tailor made insurance product specifically for drones,
general liability insurance may help you with liability issues involving drones.
Loosely speaking, general liability insurance helps businesses cover the costs when
management or employees are found liable for an act that caused another to be
harmed. A business drone that injures someone while being used for commercial
purposes may help you cover court and settlement costs.
If you are considering using a drone in your business, contact your licensed insurance
representative to inquire about insurance coverage. Just like cars, accidents stemming
from the use of this technology can create a legal nightmare that costs you
handsomely. Fortunately, you can minimize your exposure by partnering with an
insurance agent who provides general liability insurance.
Drones are all the rage, but you must ensure that your business isn t exposed to
liability risks from using your
Essay on The Bill of Rights
The Bill of Rights is a list of limitations on the power of the government. Firstly, the
Bill of Rights is successful in assuring the adoption of the Constitution. Secondly, the
Bill of Rights did not address every foreseeable situation. Thirdly, the Bill of Rights
has assured the safety of the people of the nation. Successes, failures, and
consequences are what made the Bill of Rights what they are today. Firstly, the Bill
of Rights has guaranteed the adoption of the Constitution. James Madison proposed
the Bill of Rights to the First Federal Congress on June 8, 1789 (Primary Documents

constitution to the state legislatures (Constitutional Politics in Ohio 1). The... Show

An agreement was finally made to create the Bill of Rights to help secure
ratification of the Constitution itself. Secondly, the Bill of Rights did not address
every foreseeable situation. One failure of the Bill of Rights was the first amendment
of the original Bill of Rights. The amendment concerned the number of constituents
for each Representative and was never ratified. It said that once the House has one
hundred members, it should not go below one hundred, and once it reached two
hundred, it should not go below two hundred (Mount 1). Another failure was The
Anti Title Amendment. This amendment said that any citizen who accepted or
received any title of nobility from a foreign power, or who accepted without the
consent of Congress any gift from a foreign power, by would no longer be a citizen
(Mount 1). Basically, this said that if someone received or accepted something from a
foreign power, that person would no longer be a citizen. The Anti Title Amendment
was submitted to the States in 1810 and was ratified by only twelve states, the last
being in 1812 (Mount 1). Thirty eight states are required to ratify to add an
amendment. The Slavery Amendment was another failure of the Bill of Rights. This
amendment was not ratified because the House did not want any amendment to be
made to the Constitution which would authorize or give to Congress the power to
abolish or interfere, within any state, with the domestic institutions thereof, including
that of
Emma Sherry Images Of Sports Women Summary
The civil rights movement was signed in 1964 and officially ending the segregation
between white and colored people. African Americans were to gained equality for
job opportunities, voting rights, and equal rights to public facilities. Muhammed Ali
was one of the first athletes to speak on politics and denied being drafted into the
military even if it meant losing his champion title and suspending his boxing license.
Fast forward to the late 1960s and early 1970s, the civil rights movement was
triggered by Tommie Smith and John Carlos, when they raised their fist in the air
wearing a black glove during the Star Spangled Banner at the 1968 Summer
Olympics. The two athletes received their medals on national television and used that

One large argument made by Sherry was that the representation of women in the
media doesn t really paint an accurate picture of how it is to train and reach the
status of professional athlete (299). Sherry also mentions that a lot of the
advertisement early on and now is made by men who target other men instead of
women writers targeting young women athletes, Women s sport continues to be
viewed through the prism of male hegemony in various ways. For example, sport
management and administration structures, policies and behaviours that underpin
the treatment of women s sport and maintain the status quo (300). Throughout
doing my research in class with our sports illustrated covers one thing that I
noticed, and made aware that there was only one issue with a woman in the cover.
Furthermore, the women wore very revealing two piece bathing suit and appeared
to be wet and playing in the water. The cover was published in January 27th, 1975
and was the only women for that entire year. From that example I can see Sherry s
perspective of lack of representation for women in sports and what the media shows
is not an accurate portrayal of women in

Shareholders wealth is basically the wealth shareholders get to accumulate from their
ownership of shares in a firm. Shareholders wealth increases by any possible amount.
This means that either increase in share prices that bring about capital gain or
increase in dividend payments. Significant this fact, a firm can maximize
shareholders wealth through this way. However, an optimal point needs to be struck
as a firm needs to balance the risk and return involved. Shareholders wealth is also
known as shareholders value.
Shareholders wealth is more credible than any other account in a business or financial
statement of a business organization. Because those concerned with the business
continuity like, revenue, growth on capital or survival of a company. All are
dependants on the wealth of the company. If the organization maximized its profit, to
higher account, simultaneously revenue (profit) will increase to maximum and risk
of the company s survival will decrease to minimum.
The decision of profitability is accomplished by the managers of the company. The
objective is done according the strength or weakness of the financial statement
prepared by management accounting. It helps the responsibility takers. Those are
managers to make a suitable condition that maximizes the benefit of the organization.
From this profit is the shareholders get wealth through dividends and improvement of

Elements Of The Oxides Of Silicon Dioxide
Period 3 oxides: Examples of period 3 oxides: Na2O, MgO, Al2O3, SiO2, P4O10
The examples of the oxides shown above are the highest oxides . These oxides
have the highest oxidation state. The melting point and boiling point for period 3
oxides is usually very high. This is because a large amount of energy is needed to
break the covalent and ionic bonds in the period 3 oxides. Metallic oxides which are
Magnesium, Sodium and Aluminium contain metallic and oxides ions. These
therefore have a strong attraction between each other. This strong attraction means a
large amount of energy would be needed to break the bonds. This would therefore
result in the melting and boiling point being very high. An example of a giant
covalent bond is silicon... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Non metal oxides SiO2, P4O10, SO2 Silicon oxide (SiO2) is the highest non metal
element. This is because it has very strong bonds that require a large amount of
energy to be broken and also silicon oxide forms a giant macromolecular structure.
P4O10 and SO2 are both simple covalent molecules that have van der Waals forces
between them. Period 3 chlorides: The melting point and boiling point for
chlorides cannot be defined. This is because each chloride works in a different
way. Examples of chlorides are sodium chloride and magnesium chloride. Both
these chlorides are solid at room temperature and pressure and also have relatively
high melting and boiling points. Sodium chloride and magnesium chloride both have
very strong ionic bonds between them and therefore a large amount of energy is
required to break the strong ionic bonds to cause them to melt or even boil. The
remaining chlorides will have relatively low melting and boiling points and most of
them will be liquid at room temperature. The chlorides will have low melting and
boiling points due to the weak van der Waals forces present. The melting point usually
increases when you go from the element sodium to silicon however then starts to
decrease when it gets to argon. The boiling point will usually increase when going
from sodium to aluminium but will then decrease to argon. Sodium, Magnesium and
Aluminium are metals which have metallic bonding. In this

Comparing Ulysses by Lord Tennyson and My Last Duchess by Robert
Browning.
Ulysses was written by Lord Tennyson and is a poem about a mythical
Greek character and is a dramatic monologue. Another poem that is a dramatic
monologue is My Last Duchess , by Robert Browning. Both poems are similar, for
example they are both structured similarly, and are both different, one difference
being their subject. In this essay
I will compare the two poems, focusing on form, and how language helps to build up
subject matter.

villages and being a warrior. In Greek literature,

These adjectives create an understanding of what life is like for Ulysses, and this is
then contrasted with words of his past such as roaming ,
ringing and windy . These words create a contrast between the activeness of the
past, and the stillness of the present. This helps the reader imagine what life was
like for the character when he was young. The words associated with the past are
positive, whereas the words associated with the present are negative, helping the
reader to understand how Ulysses feels about the present. Line 2o Gleams that
untravelled world whose margin fades shows how Ulysses believes that he still can
go out and do things, as no matter how much he has done, he cannot have done
everything. This line is important, as Gleams leaves the reader with the impression
that it is almost tempting to
Ulysses to go and live like he did in the past.
In My Last Duchess , Browning allows the reader to understand the
Duke through what he is saying and what he is doing. The first two lines introduce
us to the main topic of the Duke s speech which is a painting of his last wife. The
lines: That s my last Duchess painted on the wall, looking as if she were alive hint to
us that the duchess is not alive anymore, but Browning has made us unsure, and
therefore invites us to read more into the poem. Browning engages the reader by
inviting them to make their own judgements about the Duke, and hinting on what he is
The Disney Princess Effect Essay
The Disney princesses are a common sight in any household with girls under the
age of 8. However, these seemingly harmless women contribute to a darker theme
in media. In her essay, Little Girls or Little Women? The Disney Princess Effect ,
Stephanie Hanes uses storytelling, strong facts, and helpful alternatives to
effectively persuade parents that the media is targeting young girls with
sexualized content, argues that this content is harmful to them in a number of
ways, and inspires parents to take action. Stephanie Hanes utilizes emotive
storytelling to connect with her readers and to show them specific examples of
how sexualized media can impact young girls. One story that Hanes uses is that of
Mary Finucane and her daughter Caoimhe. When her daughter was around three
years old, Finucane began to see a change in how Caoimhe acted. She would no
longer run around like one would expect of a carefree toddler, instead she would
sit around and wait for her prince (Hanes 509). This change in behavior alarmed
Mary Finucane, and she began to suspect that the Disney princesses were to blame.
After further research, Finucane came to realize that these princesses led to
problems from self objectification to cyberbullying to unhealthy body images.
(Hanes 510). Prompted by her experience, Finucane decided to start a blog dedicated
to her attempt to break the grip that Disney had on her daughter (Hanes 510).
Finucane s blog gained popularity, as many other parents were having
Deep Ocean Deforestation
1. The extraction of oil is disruptive to the environment and can destroy natural
habitats. 2. Another reason is the fact that deep sea drilling has the potential of
exploding, leaking or spilling oil into the ocean. Accidents while transporting oil
may also dump oil into the sea. 3. The seismic noise made from the deep sea drilling
can disorient whales and other marine mammals, causing them to beach themselves.
The death of whales is not only sad, but can also impact the delicate web of marine
life. 1. Surface mining of coal causes direct and indirect damage to wildlife. The
impact on wildlife stems primarily from disturbing, removing and redistributing the
land surface. Some impacts are short term, and confined to the mine site; others...

The Impact of Lenin on Russia and the Russian People
Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov (a.k.a Lenin) was born in 1870, into a middle class family.
In the year 1887 when Lenin was 17 his elder brother Alexandra was executed for
conspiring to assassinate the tsar. Lenin who was already well educated and fond of
reading and writing was encouraged to enter politics to make changes and to
somehow avenge his brothers death. The long term effects of this were that Lenin
would later become one of the great revolutionary leaders of all time.

When Tsar Nicholas II abdicates on March 1st 1917 Lenin is in Switzerland. He is
now desperate to return to Russia to help shape the future of the country. He feels that
with the tsars abdication leaving a provisional government in control a revolution
will be possible in Russia.
When Lenin returns to Russia on 3rd April 1917 he announces what is known as the
April Theses . Lenin s programme was summed up in the words Peace, Bread and
Land . Lenin promised the people these things to get them on his side and to appeal to
soldiers, workers and peasants. Lenin guaranteed them these things to introduce his
party and to encourage them to side with him rather than the provisional government.
The long term affects of this were that once in power Lenin would have to keep his
promise to the people.
Lenin and Trotsky formed the Red Guard and set up the Military Revolutionary
Committee which planned the October Revolution. The revolution itself was
reasonably peaceful. The plan was to storm the Winter Palace but, almost everybody
had lost faith in the provisional government and its leader Korensky had already
evacuated the capital. Initially the effects of this were that the Bolsheviks came into
power, the long term effects were they remained in power for most of the century.
As a direct result of the October Revolution the

The difficulty lies in the necessity to encapsulate a compelling narrative or argument in a concise manner while ensuring clarity and coherence. The brevity of the essay format demands a topic that is not only interesting but also manageable within the given constraints. This requires careful consideration and often involves a delicate balance between depth and brevity. Crafting a thesis statement that succinctly captures the essence of the essay is another hurdle. The limited space means that each word must carry significant weight, and the thesis should be both compelling and reflective of the essay's purpose. At what age is it appropriate to use makeup? It is important for children to build a solid sense of self before introduction to make up. There are many negative factors that can develop in a child s mind by introducing them to makeup at a young age, such as self esteem issues, and blurring what children know as appearance and reality. Many believe that makeup can be a way to express our identity, but I believe makeup can be destructive to the development of children and their identities. When children are young, their self esteem is relatively high because we as humans are not born with insecurities. As children, we all, typically, had a very innocent and positive way of seeing ourselves and the world. Many may still wonder, what is the big deal with letting children play with childhood makeup sets? For one, if a child is growing up to be comfortable in their body makeup can create many insecurities that can damage their self image and self worth, but obviously, these are not the initial reactions that a child may have when they receive their first makeup kit. She realizes that her fair appearance does not reflect her feelings. Singing this song, she washes away her makeup, and gives up on becoming the perfect daughter and bride; it is a baptism. Maybe it would be key to mention that during this song, Mulan sings in a downpour of rain. Just like Foster describes in his book, Mulan is baptized in the rain. Disney movies are not notorious for their violent nature. So, when something violent occurs in a Disney movie, or an individual (or animal in many cases) dies, it must carry some kind of importance. In the chapter of his book More Than It s Gonna Hurt You , Fosters says that there is usually more to violence than just violence. When Mulan is struck by the sword of Shan Yu, many more things happen to her than a fatal wound. She almost meets her demise, and for the first time, the reality of war sets in. Mulan realizes that she is not invincible and grasps the perils of war for the first time. When she receives medical attention for her wound, she is discovered to be a woman. All she has worked for up until this point is now for naught, as she is expelled from the army and her family name is disgraced. Resistance is commonly understood as a rejection to accept and comply with something that causes doing in opposition to the current events. I believe in the resistance as I believe there can be no light without shadow; or rather, no shadow unless there is also light. It was a battle for the liberation of the country, but it was also a battle for the minds and hearts of the French people, and many Resisters have said that breaking the hold of Petainism was the most formidable task in the first two years. After November 1942 it was easier, for in that month the Germans occupied the whole of France and Petain insisted on staying as head of what was now quite openly a subservient regime. But sympathy, support, and even adoration, for Petain lived on. It still exists among a dedicated minority

In The Guest, the main character Daru is also put in a moral conflict. Although he evades said conflict by giving the Arab his own choice of punishment or freedom, his underlying respect and hospitality causes his guest to deliver himself unto the hands of his enemy. Because of the hospitality that Daru shows the Arab, he feels obligated to do the moral thing and serve his sentence. The Art Of Paul Cezanne Introduction Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso were both profoundly influenced by the art of Paul CГ©zanne, somewhat ironically since the latter is reported to have been quite uncertain of his artistic contributions and anxious about his legacies (Merleau Ponty, 1945). Picasso described CГ©zanne as my one and only master ; while Matisse noted that it is undoubtedly to CГ©zanne that I owe the most . The Large Bathers was one of two final paintings produced by CГ©zanne in 1906, the year of his death. At this stage Matisse had acquired a reputation as an upcoming artistic leader via an exhibition in 1905 (Bio, n.d. #1); while Picasso was a 25 year old prodigy who had already secured lucrative patronage (Bio, n.d. #2). The three paintings of interest must be considered in the context of their artists evolution. It is harder to compete in today s job market. The insecurity of finding employment is ever looming. There are jobs that can be had rather quickly; i.e., low wage jobs like fast food or retail. It is impossible to support a family on a minimum wage. Converting middle wage jobs to foreign countries leaves a smaller job pool workers must fight to get into. Once those jobs are gone the only thing left are high wage positions that require degrees or low wages jobs that do not furnish enough income to be above poverty level. How does this affect employees of the future? There is a clichГ© that says, customer loyalty starts with employee loyalty. Working for an employer that is outsourcing jobs around you creates a sense of mistrust. Employees that mistrust the company will not feel loyalty to the entity that provides the weekly paychecks. Lack of loyalty can take on many forms:

This is no exception in the novel, The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. Music plays an important role in this book where you frequently read songs sung by dwarves, elves, and goblins. Although all of these magical beings sing songs that may look similar at first glance, these tunes could not be more different! In chapter one of The Hobbit, thirteen dwarves begin singing a song about an adventure over Misty Mountains and taking back the gold and treasure that the evil dragon, Smaug, stole from the them. The last line of the song states, We must away, ere break of day, to win our harps and gold from him! The dwarves were exceptionally determined to march up to Smaug and take the back the precious gold that was rightfully theirs. The tone of the song was very bold and adventurous. As mentioned at the beginning of this paragraph, the song sung by the elves is much shorter than the dwarves tune. The length of this song contributes to the mysterious tone. If this song was long and drawn out, the reader would no longer be left with questions about the song. Among young adults today, low self esteem seems to be more common and a larger problem than it has been at any other point in the past, and the issue needs to be explored further. There are many challenges to achieving healthy self esteem levels, with social media and social anxiety being very common among young adults. In your opinion, do you think the big banks are managing their reported earnings to show lesser profits than what they are actually earning (i.e. using earnings management techniques)? Definition of Earnings Management Healy and Wahlen (1999) define earnings management as: Earnings management occurs when managers use judgement in financial reporting and in structuring transactions to alter financial reports to either mislead some stakeholders about the underlying economic performance of the company or to influence contractual outcomes that depend on reported accounting numbers. Another definition is given by Fields et al. (2001) who state that: Earnings management occurs when managers exercise their discretion over accounting numbers with or without restrictions. Such discretion can be either firm value maximizing or opportunistic . The above definitions highlight the point that managerial intent is a criterion for earnings management (Spohr 2005). Several academic literatures seek to point out the activities which can be considered to be earnings management. However, as the definition of earnings management does not rely on any one item of the income statement, it does not need to be directly connected to reported earnings. Its impact is through accounting numbers and may also be directed at financial ratios as opposed to earnings (Schipper 1989). Dechow and Skinner (2000) have classified earnings management as follows: Reporting TypeAccounting choices Within GAAP Conservative AccountingOverly aggressive recognition of provisions or reserves
