The Role Of Fate In Medieval Literature
THE ROLE OF FATE IN THE DESIRES OF MEN IN MEDIEVAL LITERATURE Two of the most
common themes found in many medieval literature are those of desire and fate. Sometimes these
themes are explicitly explored by authors to illustrates their understanding or to make a point about
them. Other times the authors make implicit, nuanced suggestions through the plot of their tales that
allows the readers to discover their own understandings about two and to make connections between
them. Chaucer s The Wife of Bath s Tale, as well as Thomas of England s Le Roman de Tristan and
Marie de France s Lanval do just that. These three pieces of medieval literature present a unique
connection between the desires of men and the role of fate. Wommen desiren ... Show more content on

In Le Roman de Tristan and Isolde, Tristan is in love with Isolte, who healed his mortal battle wounds
but later became wife to King Mark of Cornwall. Tristan and Isolde engage in a secretive love affair
that results in banishment and tragedy. Through the duration of the tale, Tristan is so driven by his love
and lust for Isolte that engages in deceiving his king and risking grave punishment. However, one
could argue that Tristan is not driven humanly desire but by the magical force of the potion that was
accidentally given to him and Isolte by Brangein. It is the potion that had caused them to fall deeply in
love with each other and could be driving Tristan s desire. Although this is a valid assumption, it can
be refuted by the fact that towards the end of the tale we are told that the effects of the potion
eventually wear off, but we know Tristan continues to have feelings of love and lust for Isolde even
after this point is made.
The best way to decide what desires drive Tristan to behave as he does is to examine the reasons that
led him to certain circumstances. In other words, what workings of fate are also a driving force for his
desires? For example, what led to his meeting with Isolde? Early in the tale we learn that Tristan
becomes a vassal of King Mark; But my body I give up to King Mark. I

Explain How Individuals Are Taught To Become Good Leaders
1. What is your initial reaction to the question, Are leaders born or can they be taught?
I personally thought and think that anyone can be a leader. I feel this way because there are different
kinds of leaders. I also think leaders can be taught by learning from examples set forth from other
great leaders.
2. Now, use the Internet and find at least three articles or sites that discuss leadership. Based on your
work, how is leadership defined? What are some of the best practices of leaders?
Based on the information that I found leadership means a person who is able to motivate, direct others
to achieve goals and inspire along the way. One of the practices that stood out to me was helping
people to achieve what they think is the impossible. Another practice I found to be amazing is being a
leader is lifting others up and serving those who work with you.
3. Using the Internet, define successful leaders from the past 50 years, the past 25 years, and finally, ...

Explain how individuals are taught to become good leaders.
Leadership can be taught to the individuals that are willing to learn. They practice by learning from
mistakes and gaining experience along the way. Most leaders learn from examples of other leaders.
Additionally, Leaders never stop learning enabling a person to become the kind of leader they want to
be.
6. Finally, are individuals mostly born or are they taught to become successful leaders? Explain. I
think that most leaders are taught to lead. While a person may have more of an outgoing personality
trait than others it does not mean they cannot be great leaders. As long as a individual is open to new
learning experiences they are able to lead. I do not think that people are just born to lead, a leader
needs real world education and experience. As long as, people are willing to learn every step of the
way and keep their work environment positive. By providing coaching and training to help a person to

Cubism And Expressionism In The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari
The film, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is a flashback of Francis s story. Dr. Caligari, a mysterious
doctor shows Cesare, a somnambulist who could predict the future to the audience one day in a fair.
Cesare predicts the death of Francis s friend, Alan, and the following night Alan passes away. Later
that day when Francis finds out about the death of his friend, he spies on Dr. Caligari and Cesare
suspecting Cesare to be the murderer. As Francis is on the hunt for Dr. Caligari and the Cesare, he
ends up in an asylum where the truth and the plot twists. The film s aesthetics are dark gloomy and
distorted and offers the viewers a bizarre experience filled with suspense, thrill, mystery and a touch
of dread. The title of the film plays a significant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both movies have artistic elements taken from the Expressionism movement. Its grotesque cinematic
aspects and exaggerated makeup, costume, characters, and background settings display a similar
impression of the film, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Although this movie is not my cup of tea, I did
appreciate the director s effort in perfectly illustrating Expressionism in a motion picture. The film s
goal was to express the modern art of Expressionism according to the inner emotion of a character
through a narrative and this film has addressed it well. I personally was stultified halfway through the
film because I don t like watching horror or gothic genre but audiences with a taste of suspense and
thrill would lean towards it more. However, it was a great way to experience and understand the

A Research On Studying And Learning And Knowledge Obtained...
Research is a goal an individual aims to discover, learn, observe, and ultimately write about. It is a
practice of pursuing the process of discovering knowledge on a specific topic. I once told someone
what I find to be intriguing to me and they also told me what they unearth to be fascinating. They
appear to have squandered too much time on the issue, but, I was young then and seem to be new to
his universe of knowledge. Their advice was doing a research in order to uncover everything about the
subject until I feel I am the expert. That wasn t all, and then I was to study and discover some more
knowledge with regard to it. I was quite frustrated with that advice because I would like to spend only
a week on studying. Will, here I am, finally endeavoring to carry out that concept of research and
discovery through studying and learning some more on the subject I would like to become an expert
on. Research in general supports the same concept of learning and knowledge obtained from constant
education. Advance research in graduate level has a set standard, strategy, and methodology to keep
abreast. Once the individual has discovered what topic holds his/her interest, after that comes the
selection of research methodology. This is the planning stage of the process. The researcher has two
options, the qualitative or quantitative approach. Simply, the researcher can choose to apply both
methodologies in a mix method or can choose to use each, individually. Each of

Bus Boycott Impact
The impact of the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
Throughout American History, there have been many movements in America to bring social justice
and a change in human rights. These movements have left an impact on the way we live and think
today. The Montgomery bus boycott is a prime example of Americans standing up for their rights in
equality and justice.
The Montgomery bus boycott was a movement in Montgomery, Alabama, against the laws of
segregation on the buses with which black people were forced to sit or stand in the back of the bus
while white people sat in their seats in the front. There was also a middle section which was available
to both, but if a white person did not have a seat, a black people in that middle section was forced to ...

They had to decide whether to continue the boycott. A vote was taken and displayed that the majority
wanted it to continue. The boycott greatly affected the stores in Montgomery because fewer blacks
were coming to the city center. The MIA fought for their case to end desegregation in the court. This
movement left a huge impact on American society. The federal court deemed segregation on buses
unconstitutional. The black community began using buses again on December 21st, 1956 after 381
days, however, this did lead to some violence. Buses were shot at and churches were bombed, seven
white men were arrested, but no one was found guilty. The violence did end and the integration of the
buses was successful. This movement gave them a chance to stop segregation in other places. A
nonviolent protest can create positive change, and the black community of Montgomery proved just

Web 2.0 Changed the Web Culture into a New Page
Web 2.0
Over the past 10 years, many significant changes have been taken by the appearance of the new Web
2.0 which turns the web culture into a new page. This new platform brought us a new way to share
information, connect communicate, accomplish the business transactions, and foster creativity and
cooperation among users. Instead of the dominant of web creators and the owners of web company,
the new Web 2.0 focuses more on user that allow us, varied participants, to create, design, and control
the content of the Web while deliberately interacting with other creator and sharing our thoughts, our
personal interests and our inventions. With the arrival and new dissemination of Web 2.0, the
controversy increases. Personally, Web 2.0 made the online experience more convenient, enjoyable
and free than ever before.
First and foremost, one of the most notable breakthrough of the Web 2.0 is the improvement in search
engines including Google, Yahoo, and Bing. Tim O Reiley convincingly stated about the new
experiences that Google brought into our life in his article Web 2.0: Design Patterns and Business
Models rather than providing information though selling an owner product of the older company like
Netscape, in the Web 1.0. Google, by contrast, began its life as a native Web application, never sold or
packaged, but delivered as a service, with customers paying, directly or indirectly, for the use of that
service. None of the trappings of the old software industry are present.

How Does Heathcliff Change In Wuthering Heights
In Wuthering Heights author Emily Brontë crafts a harrowing death for Catherine as well as a funeral
scene that serves to communicate her true love; all things natural. Heathcliff is frequently described as
an extension of nature throughout the novel due to his strength, impulsivity, and the manner in which
he confronts his problems. By handling his issues directly and forcefully, Heathcliff is a force to be
reckoned with, just like nature itself. However, on the day of Catherine s funeral, he handles his
emotions passively like the civilized families. Heathcliff suppresses his nature with the aid of alcohol,
[swallowing] gin...by the tumblerfuls, a stark contrast to many of his past decisions where he
adamantly refuted to succumb to societal normalcies, content with his rough demeanor (Brontë 169).

Like Heathcliff, she was also a wild spirit, intrinsically inclined toward Wuthering Heights, yet
capable of adapting to high society living. However, she could not continue to ignore her inherent
affinity for both Heathcliff and the natural world. Only as she approached death did she finally admit
that she [didn t] want...Edgar or Thrushcross Grange to be her home (Brontë 127). Catherine s frantic
love for Heathcliff and Wuthering Heights manifested as the brain fever that led to her death,
symbolizing the conflict between her effort to fit into society and her longing for a life free of
constraints with Heathcliff (Brontë 132). Despite his newfound suffering, Heathcliff continues to love
Catherine, even after her

Kazuo Ishiguro s The Buried Giant
Kazuo Ishiguro s The Buried Giant follows the journey of a pair of elderly Britons as they travel
through a land overtaken by collective forgetfulness. Soon after venturing out Axl and Beatrice
discover the cause of their amnesia: the breath of the she dragon Querig, and without hesitations swear
to slay the creature. However, while the restoration of Axl and Beatrice s lost memories would
positively affect our main characters, turmoil would undoubtedly break out on a more large scale
scope. Individual identity should not outweigh massacre and chaos. Querig should not be slain in
order to preserve peace between the Britons and Saxons.
Querig s death will result in a reversion of cultural tension between the Britons and Saxons, thus

grief, perhaps several centuries would be enough to heal the wounds previously mentioned. Gawain
mentions, the bones lie sheltered beneath a pleasant green carpet. The children know nothing of them

conflict, now grown into adults, would be compelled to forgive or perhaps would pass away. If the
mist outlasted the previously mentioned age group the last memories of the Briton Saxon conflict
would die out, thus leaving only room for peace. By remaining alive, even if for only several more
years, Querig s breath could further improve the once tense relations between the Britons and

Training Employees On Hazardous Materials. Hazardous...
Training Employees on Hazardous Materials Hazardous materials are a very important part of our
environment and workplace. They can cause environmental issues or they could even cause hurt to
humans and animals. However, HAZMAT is needed for production in some workplaces. There are
many businesses that do not train their employees properly or not at all on hazardous materials.
Anyone transferring, using, touching, or working with hazardous materials should be trained so they
know what to do in case of a serious incident. Not even that, it is just important to know what kind of
hazardous material they are transporting. There are a lot of safety incidents in workplaces that are
mainly caused by improper training or not having training at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

p.).
There were 14 employees who did not have any training on HAZMAT. There is also another incident
that states a company failed to properly train their employees on how to properly package and label
HAZMAT product which caused acceptance of cargo on an airplane that should have not been
accepted. These are just a couple of incidents that discussed in this press release. If those employees
would have been trained, there may not have been a safety incident that caused fines to these
companies. The worst part is, is the employees had no idea what to do in any of these incidents. They
could have been hurt or even caused harm against others and it would not have necessarily been their
fault. One way to reduce these incidents is risk management. Risk management is a program to reduce
risks in a business in any way possible by forecasting and evaluating. According to the US Department
of Transportation, the Hazardous Materials Safety Program is, designed to reduce the probability and
quantity of hazardous material released and mitigate release consequences (DOT, 1998, p. 4). This
program gives guidelines as well as consequences. It gives ideas for future and how to plan for an
incident. This guideline also gives ideas of developing the risks and how safe can you be and is there
any other plans to use to become safer. It is always a good idea to be as safe as possible and you can
never be safe enough.

Gender Pay Gap In The United States
The gender pay gap in the United States has been a tensely debated topic since the Equal Pay Act of
1963. Although the Equal Pay Act requires equal pay for men and women, the issue of the gender pay
gap has been a heightened issue as time has progressed. Phyllis Schlafly, Mark J. Perry, Anita Little
and Sheryl Sandberg each address the gender pay gap in dynamically different ways. Phyllis Schlafly
and Mark J. Perry firmly believe that the gender pay gap is entirely created by life choices that women
make. While Anita Little and Sheryl Sandberg argue that the pay gap is caused by external forces.
Each author addresses: creation of the wage gap, the severity of the wage gap and the viability of a
solution.
First, many people have argued that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Two scholars from American Enterprise Institute, Mark Perry and Andrew Biggs, share similar
opinions with Schlafly about child bearing and its impact. Mark Perry and Andrew Biggs wrote the
article titled, The 77 Cents on the Dollar Myth About Women s Pay . Perry and Biggs agree with
Schlafly that having children does not benefit women s salaries and the gender wage gap. Biggs and
Perry claim that when mothers leave the workforce to take care of their children it creates a
disadvantage to them. They explain that when the mothers return the workforce, they have less work
experience than similarly aged males (5). They correlate experience with wages; saying that new
mothers will not have as much experience, which will lead to a smaller paycheck when they return.
Perry and Biggs also argue that new mothers are less appealing to employers because their male
counter parts who are of similar age, will have more experience than them (5). The employers may
feel that the new mothers may not be as qualified or become as successful as a man. Ultimately, like
Schlafly they argue that women who choose to have children are willingly creating part of the wage
gap because they are choosing to have limited experience in exchange for

Internal Medicine Clerkship
The summer of 2005 was supposed to be great, I had survived my freshman year of college, and

For nearly nine months, my aunt complained of unremitting dull lower abdominal pain, lack of

The Cinderella Story In La Cenerentola By Gioachini Rossini
Throughout time, the opera La Cenerentola by Gioachini Rossini has proven to be one the composer s
most famous works, as well as the most famous operatic adaptation of the Cinderella story. However,
the opera is in fact quite different from the well know fairy tale. There are certain advantages and
disadvantages to Rossini and his librettist Ferreti s setting of the piece; significant pieces of the story
are removed to make way for thoughtful substitutions. However, in the end he manages to deliver a
fresh interpretation of the tale without sacrificing the timeless charm of the original fairy tale.
The Cinderella Story has been a classic trope in literature throughout the ages, and there are numerous
variations of the story across Africa, Asia, Persia, and even Native American Algonquian traditions.
Some cite the earliest appearance of Cinderella as far back the first century CE with Greek Scholar
Strabo s mention of the myth of Rhodopis. This story recounts a woman whose sandal was snatched
by an eagle as she bathed in the river and carried to the king of Memphis, who immediately sought out
the woman to whom the shoe belonged. However others cite the first documented Cinderella story as
the tale of Ye Xian, written by Chinese scholar Duan Chengshi in 850 CE. In this version, Ye Xuan is
gravely abused by her stepmothers and sisters, and her only friend is a fish, which the stepmother
cruelly kills and eats. However, a magical spirit appears from the fish bones, granting Ye

The Culture And Geography Of The Korean Culture
South Korea is a country with a multi faceted culture, ranging from K pop, Korean cuisine, beauty
products and Kdramas. Recently Korean culture, also referred to as the KWave, has been expanding
around the globe at an exponential rate. As someone who has been invested in the Korean culture for a
couple years now, some of my favorite things about it is being able to learn about the culture and
geography of South Korea through watching Kdramas and Korean movies. The movies I have chosen
for this assignment are: Train to Busan, A Werewolf Boy, A Stray Goat, Tazza: The Hidden Card, and
Silenced. In the movies I have chosen to review and compare we get to see a whole lot of the
geography of the country, starting from the northern part of South Korea, Seoul, all the way to the
southern region of Busan, and also exploring the countryside and other cities like Goseong, Gwangju.
In these movies we will see all kinds of geography from physical, economic, cultural, city, rural, and
so much more, and how each movie uses and portrays each geographical location to more deep themes
like safety, community, memories, and even acceptance. The way I ordered this movies was from my
least favorite to my most favorite

Correlation Between Gang And Gang Delinquency

actions that they would not normally do. This paper will give some idea of what a gang is and describe
some factors that can motivate a person to get involved with a gang. It will also explain the problem
associated with an increase of gang member activity that result of a higher gang homicide. The data

Part of the problem is that in the large major cities youngsters who are suffering from boredom,
despair, and poverty can easily be enticed into the idea of being part of a gang. With these ideas of
involvement, it is increasing the gang membership in larger cities. Studies have shown an increase in
gang involvement since 2003 but now is stabilizing. This is a growing problem because if we do not
increase activities such as prevention groups or getting the police involved in community programs in
cities encouraging youth participation it could begin to rise again over a few more years. Police need
to not be just a figure in a uniform, but get involved and let youth and adults know that the figure in
the uniform is a person who cares about them and the community.
What is a gang and what do they do?
There are many definitions for what a gang is. According to The National Gang Center website, one
definition of a gang is a group of youngsters or adolescents who associate closely, often exclusively,
for social reasons, especially a group engaging in delinquent behavior such as a gang of thieves. Some
factors that make a gang a gang are that the group has three or more members, generally aged 12 24,
the members share an identity, typically linked to a name, and often other symbols. The members view
themselves as a gang, and they are recognized by others as a gang. The group has some permanence
and a degree of organization and the group is involved in an elevated level

Essay Difference Between Italian And French Baroque...
Difference Between Italian And French Baroque Architecture
Baroque is the name given to the art of the 17th century. But the baroque style, like all other styles in
the history of art, began gradually. It started in the latter part of the 16th century and continued to be
used well into the 18th century.
Baroque can be defied as the florid, ornate style characterizing fine arts in Europe from the middle
16th to middle 18th centuries. The main characteristic of the baroque architecture is movement.
Architects wanted their buildings to be exciting and to give the impression of activity.
They did this by making dramatic contrasts of light and shadow and by using curved shapes.

The three most important and notable baroque architects in France in the 17th century were Jacques
Lemercier (1580/5 1654), a man who was a master of delicate elegant line and graceful silhouettes
which he ingeniously combined with forceful mass. He was most noted for his work on the Church of
the Sorbonne. Next is Francois Mansart
(1598 1666), a man who s exteriors and interiors, composed with scrupulous purity and infinite
stability, make him in architecture the cornerstone of French Baroque Classicism. He was best known
for his work on the Ste Marie de la Visitation and Chateau of Blois. Finally Louis
Levau (1612 1670), a man who emphasized on terraced, parterres, pools, fountains, all to provide an
axial relationship to his work. He was best known for his work on the Chateau and Gardens of Vaux le
Vicomte and

The wide variety of expression inherent in the Baroque can be best understood by examining the
works of Italians
Francesco Borromini (1599 1666), Guarino Guarini (1624 1683) and Giovanni
Lorenzo Bernini (1598 1680). Francesco in many ways, was the spiritual father of Guarini. Born in
Canton Ticino in the Alps, he went to
Rome where he stayed his whole life. Suspicious, moody, and dedicated, he, almost fanatical in his
pursuit of perfection, carefully supervised all the stages of his design. He is most remembered for the

Analysis Of The Daily Life Of Edna s, The Awakening s...
Waverly Leonard
Part I Reading Journal, ch.s 1 13
Plot Summary:
These first thirteen chapters chronicle the daily life of Edna Pontellier, The Awakening s protagonist.
The novel opens on Mr. Pontellier; he is smoking a cigar and reading the newspaper while idly
observing the life and activity around him. The novel turns its attention to his wife, Edna Pontellier.
She is described as rather handsome than beautiful and has a face with a certain frankness of
expression, an intriguing description if there ever was one. She is accompanied by Robert Lebrun, the
son of Madame Lebrun, the owner of the house at which the Creole aristocracy stayed on the Grand
Isle. They are rather close companions; Robert has chosen to follow her around for the summer, as is
later revealed to be his custom. It s revealed that Edna is an American woman from the old Kentucky
bluegrass country. As the day progresses, Chopin details the tiny minutiae of married life that have
disappointed both Leonce and Edna; Leonce feels hurt by her dismissiveness He thought it very
discouraging that his wife, who was the sole object of his existence, evinced so little interest in things
which concerned him, and valued so little his conversation... while Edna resents his overbearing
conventionality An indescribable oppression, which seemed to generate in some unfamiliar part of her
consciousness, filled her whole being with a vague anguish. The Pontelliers reconcile before Leonce
leaves for New Orleans

1990s until the mid 2000s, Dell was ranked as a PC market leader relying on their distinctive
marketing pattern Direct Model which undertook direct communication with customers and provided
customized products. Recently, the PC industry is facing inconceivable worldwide competition, and
Dell is gradually losing their competitive advantages by using its direct model in critical business
segments. The company is facing shrinkage of growth, increasing competition, declining quality of
customer service, and limitation of expansion. These issues have an enormous impact on Dell s
position as a technological giant in the PC industry. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dell positioned itself as a successful differentiator; however, its competitive differentiation is no
longer an advantage for it due to the ease of their Direct Model imitation. Home and corporate users
dominate the five categories of buyers on PC consumption. There are large amounts of these buyers in
the market that are price sensitive and have low switching costs on their products which raises overall
buyers power. However, in the case of Dell, many customers became frustrated with Dell. For
example, Dell s call centers received manyf discouraged clients comments. One reason: many service
representatives were trained to solve only one category of a problem, so almost 45% of calls had to be
transferred from the agent who answered the call to someone with the knowledge needed to help the
customer. Richard L. Hunter, who was brought in to improve Dell s customer service, called the
situation terrible , explaining that it was comparable to delivering materials to the wrong factory 45
percent of the time. Worse, to slow the tide of calls from customers, Dell tried removing its toll free
service number from its website. Customers reactions showed up in Dell s declining market share and
slumping customer satisfaction ratings (Certo, 2013). Moreover, when Dell went on to expand its tech
support outsourcing with other call centres in India, customers began complaining. Consequently, Dell
stopped being perceived as an American role

Theodore Roosevelt Foreign Policy Essay
I believe the President who defined American foreign policy most significantly in the twentieth
century was Theodore Roosevelt. He was an imperialist who worked towards a goal of global power.
From gaining ownership over the Panama Canal to protecting Latin American countries from the
threat of European powers, Roosevelt s policies earned the name Big Stick Diplomacy . This policy
relied upon military intimidation to achieve U.S goals. The first example of Theodore Roosevelt using
his Big Stick policy was his influence on the Panama Canal. He dispatched U.S warships to support
Panamanian rebels against Colombian rule. After Panama declared its independence, it granted the
U.S control over the canal zone. The Panama Canal was an imperative ... Show more content on

In 1901, the U.S and Great Britain signed the Hay Pauncefote Treaty, granting Britain control over a
canal to the U.S. In 1902, Congress passes the Canal act which granted funding for the Panama Canal.
Also in 1902, congress passed the Philippine Government Act, establishing the islands of Philippine as
an unorganized territory. In 1903, Roosevelt created the Department of Commerce and Labor. Later
that year, Roosevelt dealt with the Panamanian revolt against Colombian rule and the U.S recognized
Panama as a Republic. In 1905, he mediated the peace treaty between Russia and Japan. In 1906, the
Platt Amendment in invoked and the U.S takes military control of Cuba. These actions demonstrate
the successful policies of Theodore Roosevelt. Theodore Roosevelt s goals with his Big Stick Policy
were to build a foreign policy legacy and expand U.S influence across the world. He wanted to move
the U.S away from its traditional policy of isolationism and towards the role of a global power. He
wanted the U.S to act as the world police, keeping conflicts to a minimum. I think he was successful
in his goals. He seized the opportunity of using interventionist policies to gain the economically
advantageous Panama Canal and successfully mediated peace talks for multiple

Argumentative Essay On Civil Rights
Personally, I believe it is difficult to place ourselves in the shoes of the senators that were faced with
these decisions. Looking back at these speeches now, I can truly see the hard work and mental strain
that these men went through in order to place this bill. When using these speeches as historical
sources, I think we should consider several things. The time period in which they were given, the
position each Senator stood for, and the general purpose behind it. For example, when looking at most
filibusters we would not consider them as credible sources mostly because they are used to drag out
the debate and exhaust their opponents by simply reading from the newspaper or telephone book.
(pg.248) However, this was certainly not the case when regarding the Civil Rights Bill. Each member

Syrian Crisis
I. Background to the crisis in Syria
Protests asking for the release of political prisoners began mid March 2011 and were immediately met
by Syrian security forces who at first detained and attacked protestors with batons, and later opened
gunfire, and deployed tanks and naval ships against civilians. Syrian President Bashar al Assad
refused to halt the violence and implement meaningful reforms demanded by protestors such as the
lifting of emergency law, broader political representation and a freer media. Assad continued to deny
responsibility for the attacks on protestors, placing the blame for the violence on armed groups and
foreign conspirators instead. On 16 February President Assad called for a referendum to be held on 26

According to Syrian National Council representatives in Geneva, over 1,000 civilians were killed in
the first two weeks of April, with shelling and mortar fire in the northern village of Marea and the city
of Homs on 10 April. Reports from Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch highlighted
ongoing rights abuses, from the arrest of minors to extrajudicial executions. The impact of the conflict
began taking its toll on the countries bordering Syria, with over 24,000 Syrians occupying the Turkish
refugee camp of Kilis, which reportedly came under fire from government forces on 9 April;
meanwhile Lebanese opposition leader Amin Gemayel has voiced concern that the fighting could spill

The Effects of Television Violence on Children
According to the Article ?Violence on Television? published by the American Psychological
Association at the website http://www.apa.org/pubinfo/violence.html, ?violent programs on television
lead to aggressive behavior by children and teenagers who watch those programs.? That s the word
from a 1982 report by the National Institute of Mental Health, a report that confirmed and extended an

The researchers noticed real differences between the kids who watched the violent shows and those
who watched nonviolent ones. According to Aletha Huston, Ph.D., ?children who watch the violent
shows, even just funny cartoons, were more likely to hit out at their playmates, argue, disobey class
rules, leave tasks unfinished, and were less willing to wait for things than those who watched the
nonviolent programs.? Findings from the laboratory are further supported by field studies, which have
shown the long range effects of televised violence. Leonard Eron, Ph.D., and his associates at the
University of Illinois, found that children who watched many hours of TV violence when they were in
elementary school tended to also show a ?higher level of aggressive behavior? when they became
teenagers. By observing these youngsters until they were 30 years old, Dr. Eron found that the ones
who ?had watched a lot of TV when they were eight years old were more likely to be arrested and
prosecuted for criminal acts as adults?.
Television does influence children, however parents have tremendous power to moderate that
influence. Because there is a great deal of violence in both adult and children s programming, just
limiting the number of hours children watch television will probably

How Effective Was Gandhi s Policy Of Siddhartha
Mahatma Gandhi s policy of Satyagraha was an extremely effective method in gaining India s
independence from Britain. This philosophy was based on three core principles: truth (Sat),
nonviolence (Ahimsa) and self sacrifice (Tapasya). Truth came from the Hindu notion that the purpose
of life is to find the Absolute Truth, similar to the notion of attaining salvation. One was to always
strive to seek truth in all matters, even though what is true and what is false is not always the same for
everyone. The notion of nonviolence was that a Satyagrahi should never purposefully harm anyone.

While some efforts might have broken into violence and gained nothing, and one could say that
violence would be more efficient, in reality nonviolence was a much more effective method. The Salt

not backing down and the British had to listen to him. Additionally, the Hindu and Jain ideas that
Satyagraha was rooted in made the policy more inspiring and relatable to the average Indian. He
fought for the people and helped to improve communities in many ways, gaining the people s trust and
love. Though he was not appreciated by all and his philosophy was not always seen as the best one,
Gandhi did ensure the independence of India in the end. To some he was a leader, to others a saint, to
some he was a contradiction, and to others still he was not much more than a laughing stock. He was

To What Extent Does Williams Portray Stanley as the Cause...
To what extent does Williams portray Stanley as the cause for Blanche s downfall?
A Street Car Named Desire is a play written by a Mississippi born writer called Tennessee Williams. A
Street Car Named Desire shows a reversal of fortune with Blanche having a life full of fortune with a
successful business and a happy marriage however it is all turned upside when all this fortune is
removed out of her life resulting in her seeking refuge with a lower class family her sister got married
into... this fits in with Aristotle s theory of tragedy because there is a reversal of fortune, bringing out
feelings of fright and sympathy to the audience. Blanche might have been a character created by
Williams using inspiration of his own life, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Blanche always wore white clothes which Williams might have purposefully done this to show her
desire to be pure, to cleanse herself of her past.
It seems that Williams has made it seem that Stanley did not cause Blanches downfall to much extent
that he only sped up Blanche s decline as she was already on a decline, regardless of Stanley s added
affects. However it can be argued that although Blanche was on the verge of a downfall she would
have recovered as she had the strength to go to her sister for help. Yet it can be said that Stanley
stopped Blanche recovering and aided her downfall to continue. Williams shaped Stanley s character
as a dominant, prideful and somewhat possessive one... I believe that he is mainly sexually possessive
as once Blanche questioned Stella on why she loves Stanley she admitted that it was because, he
fulfils her sexual and sensual desires with a steady life. Remember what Huey Long said `Every Man
is a King! And I am the king around here, so don t forget it! Stanley was the dominant character
between him and Stella however, with the arrival of Blanche Williams disrupts their simple life;
Blanche criticizes his private life his character, his views and beliefs. Therefore Stanley turns against
her this could be argued the cause for Stanley to start breaking her down, wanting

Ten Auto Insurance Myths Debunked
Myth 1: I ll save money by going for the cheapest quote available.
Fact: When you buy auto insurance, you re basically purchasing peace of mind and the knowledge that
an accident won t mean the end of your savings and a lifetime of debt. However to ensure that you
will be covered for any losses or damages, it s better to opt for quotes from a company that has a
reputation to maintain and the means to pay out when you make a claim. Opting for an obscure, fly by
night company just because it gave you the cheapest quote is a bad idea. If it rejects your claim, or
does not have the funds to pay out, you could potentially lose a fortune.

Myth 8:Younger drivers always pay obscene interest rates.
Fact: Not necessarily. Many car insurance companies offer young drivers discounts for completing
defensive driver s credits. Others give students below the age of 25 discounts for exceptional
academic performance. Students can also get discounts by installing air bags and anti theft devices. By
availing of these discounts, a student driver can definitely enjoy affordable insurance rates.
Myth 9:Car insurance covers the costs of items stolen from my car.
Fact: Generally, personal possessions left in the car are not covered by car insurance. Some home
insurance policies cover such items, but that varies from item to item and policy to policy.
Myth 10: If I get into an accident and the other party is at fault but has no insurance, my insurance
company will pay for my damages.

the damages to your car and person will be covered. But you re on your own if you don t. This is why
some states require that all drivers carry Uninsured Motorist s

Artemisia Gentileschi s Judith Beheading Holofernes
Although now praised for her work as an incredibly accomplished, feminist artist, Artemisia
Gentileschi s works were nearly expunged from history by those who believed her incapable of such
skill. As a female painter in the 17th century she faced innumerable challenges in pursuing work as an
artist, including, but not limited to; her exclusion from apprenticeship in the arts, the damage sustained
to her reputation after a lengthy rape trial in which she was tortured to prove her credibility and
subsequent defamation after the trial. After her death critics claimed her work as her father s or

These works both demonstrate her use of dramatic chiaroscuro, most likely as a result of the influence
of Caravaggio in her training, and her vivid use of color, as well as her ability to capture a moment in

In Judith Slaying Holofernes (V. II.) circa 1620, Gentileschi depicts the climactic moment of the
biblical story in which Judith, with the help of her maidservant, decapitates Holofernes. While a
popular subject to be painted at the time, Gentileschi s depiction is unique in the way that she ...creates

Judith and her maid to kill their enemy... (Visual Arts Cork). In fact, Cosimo de Medici, for whom this
work was commissioned for, kept the work hidden from public view on account of how graphic it was

story, specifically in the way that both Judith and her maidservant are much more physically and
purposefully involved in this act of violence. It is important to

Summary
I. INTRODUCTION
Surgical castration is a general cattle husbandry procedure whereby the testicles of the males are
removed or altered in order to stop the production of male hormones (NSW DPI, 2004). Castration of
male cattle is considered to be an unpleasant but necessary practice for economic, safety and
management reasons within production systems (O Neill Webb, 2008; NSW DPI, 2004; Lomax
Windsor, 2013). However, despite the knowledge that all physical methods of castration cause pain
(Stafford, 2007; Kent et al, 1995), the procedure is often performed without the use of anesthesia or

Search Seizure
Search amp; Seizure A police officer is dispatched to a call in his jurisdiction for a noise complaint.
The police officer arrives hearing very loud music coming from the residence which violates a noise

The police officer can seize the marijuana plants based on the Plain View Doctrine. In Harris v. United

In an extension of the plain view doctrine, officers are also allowed to do a protective sweep when
they make an arrest on or outside private premises. They may, despite the absence of a search warrant,
examine the entire premises for other persons whose presence would pose a threat either to their safety
or to evidence that could be removed or destroyed. [5] The police officer has the right to seize
anything in plain view while conducting the sweep. The police officer would need to lock down the
house after the sweep and apply for the search warrant. If the police officer precedes to search the
resident s house without obtaining a search warrant the evidence obtained can be deemed illegal under
the Fruit of the Poisonous Tree Doctrine. Under this rule, Fruit of the Poisonous Tree Doctrine,
evidence that has been seized illegally is considered tainted and cannot be used against a suspect. [6]
The Exclusionary Rule could also be used as cited in the Mapp v. Ohio case. Anything obtained
illegally could be deemed tainted or inadmissible in court. It is imperative that the police officers
follow all procedures faithfully and as per the tenets that the courts have set up. Any mistakes can, and
regularly do, permit a liable party to go free on a technicality.

She uses the term carative to contrast with conventional medicine s curative factors. Her carative
factors attempt to honor the human dimensions of nursing s work and the inner life world and
subjective experiences of the people we serve . In all, the carative factors are comprised of 10
elements: 1. The formation of a humanistic altruistic system of values * Begins developmentally at an
early age with values shared with the parents. * Mediated through ones own life experiences, the
learning one gains and exposure to the humanities. * Is perceived as necessary to the nurse s own
maturation which then promotes altruistic behavior towards others. 2. Faith hope * Is essential to both
the carative and the curative processes. * When modern science has nothing further to offer the

are meaningful to the individual. 3. Cultivation of sensitivity to one s self and to others * Explores the
need of the nurse to begin to feel an emotion as it presents itself. * Development of one s own feeling

Wu Cheng s The Journey To The West
Chapter one of Wu Cheng en s classical story, The Journey to the West, introduces the main character,
Monkey, by providing background information about his origin and early life. Monkey lived equally
along with gibbons and baboons who he considered his kin until he was appointed to king of the
Blessed Land of Flower Fruit Mountain. This transition from an unstructured, free will society to an
orderly kingdom portrays the social changes humans experienced when dynasties arose in civilization.
After Monkey gained the title of king, certain changes occurred. Immediately after he claimed the
position, his peers lined up according to rank and age , praising Monkey by chanting, long live our
great king (Cheng en, 177). The recently equal group ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prior to Monkey becoming king, a poem in the beginning of the chapter claims they played two games
or three with pebbles and with pellets; they circled sandy pits, they built rare pagodas, they chased
dragonflies.... which are activities that allowed the population to live in a carefree, playful
environment (Cheng en, 174). After Monkey became king, their activities depended on the season,
which another poem portrays; In the spring they gathered flowers for food and drink. In the summer
they went in quest of fruits for sustenance. In the autumn they amassed taros and chestnuts to ward off
time. In the winter they searched for yellow sperms to live out the year (Cheng en, 178). The newly
civilized, ruled monkeys no longer roamed aimlessly playing with one another, but had jobs that
would ensure their survival. This societal change is also reflected in the late Ming dynasties idea of
radical individualism. In this time, the text argues that personal freedom had been celebrated at the
expense of social responsibility (World Literature, 169). The monkeys now had responsibilities to
attend to, likely with the king s instruction, when before they were liable for little

The Effects Of Plants
Plants, being sessile organisms cannot move to more favorable places to escape the adverse effects of
HM toxicity.Exposure of the plants to toxic levels of HM triggers a wide range of physiological and
biochemical process; and plants in order to cope with the negative impacts of toxicity develop and/or
adopt a series of strategies (Fig.1) (Hayat et al., 2012). The initial response of the plants to various
stresses, including HM accumulation in the soils involve perception of stress stimuli, signal
transduction and transmission of amplified signal (mitogen activated proteins viz; SIMKK,SIMK,
SAMK,MMK3,MMK2) into cell and acceleration of the cell machinery to bring about comparative

at the concentrations of 85μM 170μM distort the structure and functioning of the MT cytoskeleton in
the root cells of soybean plants (Gzyl et al., 2015).The root growth in soybean was thus diminished
accompanied by a reduction in mitotic activity and disturbed MT arrays structure which also includes
randomization in the arrangement of the cortical MT, distorted mitotic arrays and completed
depolymerisation of the MTs.They also reported that Cd had significant impact on gene expression
levels and subsequently on post translational modification of tubulin unit, which is responsible for
impairment of MT cytoskeleton s structure and functioning in root cells of soybean plants. 3.2 Effects
on the form of chromosomes The genomic toxicity of HMs in plants severely affects the process of
DNA replication and chromosomes as well as inducing chromosomal aberrations and abnormalities
(Niture et al., 2014). For example, barley grains treated with Cd showed distorted nucleolus, DNA
damage, chromosomal fragmentation, aberration and liquefaction as a result of Cd interference with
nucleic acids (Qin et al., 2015).Aslam et al., 2014 by using technique Random amplified polymorphic

There were several cases of disregard of the OECD guidelines by SPDC. There were several
allegations against SPDC indicating that they were worsening the environments of their oil
exploration areas. These allegations include turning Ogoni into a wasteland, several oil spills, and gas
flaring. These actions are contradictory to the OECD guidelines indicating that companies should
contribute to achieving environmental progress. The respect for the human rights of the citizens
affected by their activities was another example for their disregard of the guidelines. There were
allegations that SPDC thoughtlessly allowed infrastructures to operate near the civilians. Also,
Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) indicated that SPDC s oil exploration led
to acid rain, carbon monoxide exposure, and a dangerous farming environment. Nigerian Culture and
SPDC s Crisis The fact that Nigeria did not have a government representative of the people and the
population consists of an extremely ethnic diversity, more than 250 ethnic groups, has proved to
present tremendous cultural challenges for SPDC. Despite receiving more royalties (90% of the net
revenue) than any other country in the world, most of the Nigerian population lives in poverty. Nigeria
declared independence in 1960 from Britain which makes them a relatively young country. The
government, usually a military faction, has been riddled with corruption since there commencement.

Summary Of Society I Danger Of Deforestation
Borneo s struggle to survive during their struggle with large industrial deforestation and devastation.
The government of Borneo is in favor of logging, thus destroying the culture and environment of the
indigenous people. They are faced with the destruction of their entire way of life. For generations,
their ancestors have lived on this land and been stewards of it. For decades, their government has
trampled upon their rights and caused environmental destruction so that a few might get rich, all the

Challenges Facing The United States
There will be significant challenges facing the United States in the next 10 years regarding strategic
threats and global security. The three overlapping types of conflicts which will dictate future wars,
challenge government agencies, and force all branches of the Armed Forces to restructure their
formations are Wars of Silicon, Iron, and Shadow. The four U.S. Services will need to rebalance, be
adaptive, implement strategic agility, and reprioritize their programs to meet specific security issues
posed by these conflicts. Diverse adversaries will employ traditional, unconventional, and hybrid
strategies to threaten U.S. National Security. Joint Forces by 2025 will need to be leaner,
technologically superior, and expeditionary to support Combatant Commanders so; they can win in
full spectrum operations and defend U.S. national interests at home and overseas. These new and
adaptive Defense strategies will require making profound choices due to budget constraints and
Sequestration. There are significant risks associated with these choices, which will require
implementing stringent control measure to mitigate those risks. The Wars of Iron, Silicon, and Shadow
are shaping strategic interest for the U.S. at home and abroad; in addition will force government
agencies to make tough financial and strategic decision, which could significantly influence National
Military Strategy for years. The United States must design an innovative readiness and investment

The Theory Of Energy, Order, And Disorder
The Theory of Energy, Order, and Disorder in the Military and in War
Brandon Rodriguez
Ramapo College of New Jersey
Abstract
The theory of energy, order, and disorder/chaos can be applied to any and all aspects of life. This essay
focuses on applying this theory to specifically the U.S. military and when in war. The war aspect in
this application of energy, order and disorder will also include combat sports, as this can also be seen
as a form of warfare. Using research consisting of articles and the like, along with interviews of those
with firsthand experience, I hope to illustrate not only how the theory of energy, order, and disorder is
present in the United States military and in warfare, but also how these things are substantially more
orderly than they are usually given credit for. Nonetheless, the essay will also go on to explain that no
matter how much effort expended in the hopes of establishing and maintaining order, it is only
temporary, and chaotic fallout is inevitable.
War is chaos. At least, that s what most people believe. And most people think this because most of the
time we are only invited to look at the surface, but what is war really? The everlasting theory of
energy, order, and disorder/chaos is one that is proven true time and time again. Whatever, or
wherever it may be, the theory remains accurate. The axiom is as follows: energy is required to
establish and keep order, but a chaotic breakdown is the natural end

Theme Of Irony In Cannery Row

The Irony of Cannery Row
The book Cannery Row by John Steinbeck provides several examples of irony, which shed light on
life during this time in history and demonstrates the humanity of people that are traditionally looked
down on and seen as less fortunate. The story of Cannery Row takes place shortly following the Great
Depression when despite many areas were seeing relief through increased job opportunities, there
were still many areas like Cannery Row where people were focused on just surviving the day today. A
common theme seen throughout the story is the acceptance of what they have in the town. Many of the
examples of irony also lend to the idea that people accepted what was in ... Show more content on

Despite his lack of a medical license or ability to practice medicine, everyone goes to him when they
need help. They do not have the luxury of finding a real doctor or going to an actual hospital, so they
full heartedly accept what is available to them without question. Accepting what is available without
question is a common theme seen throughout the story.
The normality of public spaces being used as private spaces also demonstrates the theme of
acceptance. The character of Doc is ironic and fits well with the story because he is a doctor without a
license. By normal standards, this would be unacceptable, and he would be imprisoned for offering
medical help or advice without a license.Doc knows that he has somewhat of reasonability to the
people of cannery row. This responsibility being to help aide them with whatever their ailments may
be. Steinbeck depicts Doc in such a way that you see his vast amounts of compassion and humanity
throughout the book.
Dora was another essential character, who was considered a successful business owner. She ran the
brothel located across the street from the grocery store. She was well respected for many reasons.
Namely, she ran a good business, she didn t accept or allow vulgar talk, and she took care of her girls
(Steinbeck 10). No matter how old her girls got or how little they were able to work, she took care of
them and made sure they had a place to stay and three meals a day (Steinbeck

Medical Benefits Of Cloning In The United States
Cloning is an up and coming medical breakthrough that will benefit the lives of everyone immensely.
On the contrary, we as a nation may never be able to experience all of what cloning technology has to
offer. The governments is planning on banning or limiting the use of cloning in the United States.
Cloning can improve our means of society, and banning it will be putting the good of America on the
back burner.
The medical benefits of cloning have the potential to be the greatest breakthroughs in the field ever.
There are so many it s hard to just put your finger on one. The power of cloning will allow people to
be cured of diseases that have never been cured before. These diseases include Alzheimer s disease,

This gave many people suspicion that cloned animals aged prematurely. However, a daily anti
inflammatory treatment resolved the clinical signs within a few months. While Dolly was continuing
to get better, in January of 2001, Cedric, one of the cloned sheep, died. Cedric died of Sheep
Pulmonary Adenomatosis, which is caused by a virus that induces tumors to grow in the lungs of
affected animals. The virus is infectious and spread to other sheep by close contact. Scientist
immediately removed Dolly from the pen even though there was a good chance she was already
infected. Dolly did die of SPA after many, many months of the other sheep deaths. While this may
seem like a negative, it is actually a common disease of regular conceived sheep. This long and
effective research experiment showed many people in the science world that cloning animals has a
very bright future.(The Roslin Institute)
Dolly was a breakthrough in science. She showed us it is possible to clone from an adult cell. Don t be
fooled, it no where near perfect, but nothing is truly perfect. Dolly gave us a base to learn and
continue to improve on. Think about it, when scientist first discovered anesthesia, atomic energy, and
recombinant DNA, they started with one successful experiment and continued to improve the means
of it. They could have lead to deleterious application, but in turn it changed the entire world s way of
living, just as cloning has the potential to do.( Di Berardino Marie

The Role Of Fate In Medieval Literature THE ROLE OF FATE IN THE DESIRES OF MEN IN MEDIEVAL LITERATURE Two of the most common themes found in many medieval literature are those of desire and fate. Sometimes these themes are explicitly explored by authors to illustrates their understanding or to make a point about them. Other times the authors make implicit, nuanced suggestions through the plot of their tales that allows the readers to discover their own understandings about two and to make connections between them. Chaucer s The Wife of Bath s Tale, as well as Thomas of England s Le Roman de Tristan and Marie de France s Lanval do just that. These three pieces of medieval literature present a unique connection between the desires of men and the role of fate. Wommen desiren ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Le Roman de Tristan and Isolde, Tristan is in love with Isolte, who healed his mortal battle wounds but later became wife to King Mark of Cornwall. Tristan and Isolde engage in a secretive love affair that results in banishment and tragedy. Through the duration of the tale, Tristan is so driven by his love and lust for Isolte that engages in deceiving his king and risking grave punishment. However, one could argue that Tristan is not driven humanly desire but by the magical force of the potion that was accidentally given to him and Isolte by Brangein. It is the potion that had caused them to fall deeply in love with each other and could be driving Tristan s desire. Although this is a valid assumption, it can be refuted by the fact that towards the end of the tale we are told that the effects of the potion eventually wear off, but we know Tristan continues to have feelings of love and lust for Isolde even after this point is made. The best way to decide what desires drive Tristan to behave as he does is to examine the reasons that led him to certain circumstances. In other words, what workings of fate are also a driving force for his desires? For example, what led to his meeting with Isolde? Early in the tale we learn that Tristan becomes a vassal of King Mark; But my body I give up to King Mark. I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I personally thought and think that anyone can be a leader. I feel this way because there are different kinds of leaders. I also think leaders can be taught by learning from examples set forth from other great leaders. 2. Now, use the Internet and find at least three articles or sites that discuss leadership. Based on your work, how is leadership defined? What are some of the best practices of leaders? Based on the information that I found leadership means a person who is able to motivate, direct others to achieve goals and inspire along the way. One of the practices that stood out to me was helping people to achieve what they think is the impossible. Another practice I found to be amazing is being a leader is lifting others up and serving those who work with you. 3. Explain how individuals are taught to become good leaders. Leadership can be taught to the individuals that are willing to learn. They practice by learning from mistakes and gaining experience along the way. Most leaders learn from examples of other leaders. Additionally, Leaders never stop learning enabling a person to become the kind of leader they want to be. 6. Finally, are individuals mostly born or are they taught to become successful leaders? Explain. I think that most leaders are taught to lead. While a person may have more of an outgoing personality trait than others it does not mean they cannot be great leaders. As long as a individual is open to new learning experiences they are able to lead. I do not think that people are just born to lead, a leader needs real world education and experience. The film s goal was to express the modern art of Expressionism according to the inner emotion of a character through a narrative and this film has addressed it well. It is a practice of pursuing the process of discovering knowledge on a specific topic. I once told someone what I find to be intriguing to me and they also told me what they unearth to be fascinating. They appear to have squandered too much time on the issue, but, I was young then and seem to be new to his universe of knowledge. Their advice was doing a research in order to uncover everything about the subject until I feel I am the expert. That wasn t all, and then I was to study and discover some more knowledge with regard to it. I was quite frustrated with that advice because I would like to spend only a week on studying. Will, here I am, finally endeavoring to carry out that concept of research and discovery through studying and learning some more on the subject I would like to become an expert on. Research in general supports the same concept of learning and knowledge obtained from constant education. Advance research in graduate level has a set standard, strategy, and methodology to keep abreast. Once the individual has discovered what topic holds his/her interest, after that comes the selection of research methodology. This is the planning stage of the process. The researcher has two options, the qualitative or quantitative approach. Simply, the researcher can choose to apply both methodologies in a mix method or can choose to use each, individually. The Montgomery bus boycott was a movement in Montgomery, Alabama, against the laws of segregation on the buses with which black people were forced to sit or stand in the back of the bus while white people sat in their seats in the front. The Cinderella Story In La Cenerentola By Gioachini Rossini Throughout time, the opera La Cenerentola by Gioachini Rossini has proven to be one the composer s most famous works, as well as the most famous operatic adaptation of the Cinderella story. However, the opera is in fact quite different from the well know fairy tale. There are certain advantages and disadvantages to Rossini and his librettist Ferreti s setting of the piece; significant pieces of the story are removed to make way for thoughtful substitutions. However, in the end he manages to deliver a fresh interpretation of the tale without sacrificing the timeless charm of the original fairy tale. The Cinderella Story has been a classic trope in literature throughout the ages, and there are numerous variations of the story across Africa, Asia, Persia, and even Native American Algonquian traditions. Some cite the earliest appearance of Cinderella as far back the first century CE with Greek Scholar Strabo s mention of the myth of Rhodopis. This story recounts a woman whose sandal was snatched by an eagle as she bathed in the river and carried to the king of Memphis, who immediately sought out the woman to whom the shoe belonged. However others cite the first documented Cinderella story as the tale of Ye Xian, written by Chinese scholar Duan Chengshi in 850 CE. With these ideas of involvement, it is increasing the gang membership in larger cities. Studies have shown an increase in gang involvement since 2003 but now is stabilizing. This is a growing problem because if we do not increase activities such as prevention groups or getting the police involved in community programs in cities encouraging youth participation it could begin to rise again over a few more years. Police need to not be just a figure in a uniform, but get involved and let youth and adults know that the figure in the uniform is a person who cares about them and the community. This philosophy was based on three core principles: truth (Sat), nonviolence (Ahimsa) and self sacrifice (Tapasya). Truth came from the Hindu notion that the purpose of life is to find the Absolute Truth, similar to the notion of attaining salvation. One was to always strive to seek truth in all matters, even though what is true and what is false is not always the same for everyone. • 46. Challenges Facing The United States There will be significant challenges facing the United States in the next 10 years regarding strategic threats and global security. The three overlapping types of conflicts which will dictate future wars, challenge government agencies, and force all branches of the Armed Forces to restructure their formations are Wars of Silicon, Iron, and Shadow. The four U.S. Services will need to rebalance, be adaptive, implement strategic agility, and reprioritize their programs to meet specific security issues posed by these conflicts. Diverse adversaries will employ traditional, unconventional, and hybrid strategies to threaten U.S. National Security. Joint Forces by 2025 will need to be leaner, technologically superior, and expeditionary to support Combatant Commanders so; they can win in full spectrum operations and defend U.S. national interests at home and overseas. These new and adaptive Defense strategies will require making profound choices due to budget constraints and Sequestration. There are significant risks associated with these choices, which will require implementing stringent control measure to mitigate those risks. The Wars of Iron, Silicon, and Shadow are shaping strategic interest for the U.S. at home and abroad; in addition will force government agencies to make tough financial and strategic decision, which could significantly influence National Military Strategy for years. • 47. The Theory Of Energy, Order, And Disorder The Theory of Energy, Order, and Disorder in the Military and in War Brandon Rodriguez Ramapo College of New Jersey Abstract The theory of energy, order, and disorder/chaos can be applied to any and all aspects of life. This essay focuses on applying this theory to specifically the U.S. military and when in war. The war aspect in this application of energy, order and disorder will also include combat sports, as this can also be seen as a form of warfare. Using research consisting of articles and the like, along with interviews of those with firsthand experience, I hope to illustrate not only how the theory of energy, order, and disorder is present in the United States military and in warfare, but also how these things are substantially more orderly than they are usually given credit for. Nonetheless, the essay will also go on to explain that no matter how much effort expended in the hopes of establishing and maintaining order, it is only temporary, and chaotic fallout is inevitable. War is chaos. At least, that s what most people believe. And most people think this because most of the time we are only invited to look at the surface, but what is war really? The everlasting theory of energy, order, and disorder/chaos is one that is proven true time and time again. Whatever, or wherever it may be, the theory remains accurate. The axiom is as follows: energy is required to establish and keep order, but a chaotic breakdown is the natural end ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Theme Of Irony In Cannery Row Lauren Skalet ENG 101 Ms.Hoelle December 12, 2017 The Irony of Cannery Row The book Cannery Row by John Steinbeck provides several examples of irony, which shed light on life during this time in history and demonstrates the humanity of people that are traditionally looked down on and seen as less fortunate. The story of Cannery Row takes place shortly following the Great Depression when despite many areas were seeing relief through increased job opportunities, there were still many areas like Cannery Row where people were focused on just surviving the day today. A common theme seen throughout the story is the acceptance of what they have in the town. Many of the examples of irony also lend to the idea that people accepted what was in ... They do not have the luxury of finding a real doctor or going to an actual hospital, so they full heartedly accept what is available to them without question. Accepting what is available without question is a common theme seen throughout the story. The normality of public spaces being used as private spaces also demonstrates the theme of acceptance. The character of Doc is ironic and fits well with the story because he is a doctor without a license. By normal standards, this would be unacceptable, and he would be imprisoned for offering medical help or advice without a license.Doc knows that he has somewhat of reasonability to the people of cannery row. This responsibility being to help aide them with whatever their ailments may be. Steinbeck depicts Doc in such a way that you see his vast amounts of compassion and humanity throughout the book. Dora was another essential character, who was considered a successful business owner. She ran the brothel located across the street from the grocery store. She was well respected for many reasons. Namely, she ran a good business, she didn t accept or allow vulgar talk, and she took care of her girls (Steinbeck 10). No matter how old her girls got or how little they were able to work, she took care of them and made sure they had a place to stay and three meals a day (Steinbeck ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This gave many people suspicion that cloned animals aged prematurely. However, a daily anti inflammatory treatment resolved the clinical signs within a few months. While Dolly was continuing to get better, in January of 2001, Cedric, one of the cloned sheep, died. Cedric died of Sheep Pulmonary Adenomatosis, which is caused by a virus that induces tumors to grow in the lungs of affected animals. The virus is infectious and spread to other sheep by close contact. Scientist immediately removed Dolly from the pen even though there was a good chance she was already infected. Dolly did die of SPA after many, many months of the other sheep deaths. While this may seem like a negative, it is actually a common disease of regular conceived sheep. This long and effective research experiment showed many people in the science world that cloning animals has a very bright future.(The Roslin Institute) Dolly was a breakthrough in science. She showed us it is possible to clone from an adult cell. Don t be fooled, it no where near perfect, but nothing is truly perfect. Dolly gave us a base to learn and continue to improve on. Think about it, when scientist first discovered anesthesia, atomic energy, and recombinant DNA, they started with one successful experiment and continued to improve the means of it. They could have lead to deleterious application, but in turn it changed the entire world s way of living, just as cloning has the potential to do.( Di Berardino Marie ...
