4. Dressing Tips
For Men:
• A matching jacket and pants, dress shirt, tie, coordinating
socks and dress shoes.
• Shoes should be well-polished and in good condition, not
scuffed or run-down at the heels.
• Avoid loud colors and flashy ties.
• Clothing should be neat, clean, and pressed.
• Your hair should be neat, clean, and conservative.
• Be sure to shave the morning of the interview, even if you
don’t ordinarily shave every day. If you have a full beard or
moustache it should be trimmed and neat-looking.
5. Dressing Tips
For Women:
• Wear a suit with a skirt or pants. Interview suits should be
simple and dark in color.
• Keep your jewelry and hair accessories to a minimum, and
stick to those that are not flashy, distracting, or shiny.
• Shoes should be conservative and fairly low-heeled.
• Your hair should be neat, clean, and conservatively styled.
6. Types of Interviews ?
• Behavioral Interview: The interviewer asks candidate to recall specific instances where they were faced
with set of circumstances, and how they reacted.
• Stress Interview: Where the employer uses a succession of interviewers whose mission is to intimidate the
candidate and keep him/her off-balance.
• Phone Interview: Telephonic Interviews take place if a job applicant is a significant distance away from the
premises of the hiring company such as abroad or in another state.
• Technical Interview: This kind of interview focuses on problem solving and creativity.
• Group Interviews: Interviewing multiple candidates at the same time.
• Panel Interview: Interview which includes one applicant and several interviewers.
• Role Play Interview: Where candidates act out a scenario with either a group or an interviewer.
7. During the Interview
Non- Verbal Communication:
Appearance and mannerism are very important – think of body
language and facial expressions.
• Put your feet squarely on the floor or cross your legs at the
ankle.
• Put anything you are carrying on the floor.
• Rest your hands in your lap.
• Nod your head to show you are listening.
• Do not fidget.
• Be serious but do not forget to smile
8. During the Interview
Verbal Communication:
• Show genuine interest in the position.
• Listen and answer the questions asked relevantly.
• Never argue a point.
• If you do not understand or hear a question, ask for it to
be repeated.
• Do not interrupt.
9. Interview Communication Skills
• A good handshake.
• Pronounce the interviewer’s name PROPERLY.
• Maintain good eye contact with your interviewer.
• Smile. Have a confident posture.
• Keep all your answers positive.
• Show Enthusiasm.
• Be an active listener.
• Ask the interviewer questions when the opportunity arises.
10. Closing the Interview
• The purpose of interview is to help you determine if the
position will be right for you.
• Prepare questions and ask the interviewer these when asked
to do so.
• Ask what the process after the interview has been completed,
or when they would be prepared to make a decision.
• Leave the interviewer with a good impression – smile or with
a firm handshake.
