The Themes In The Shawl By Cynthia Othick
The Short Story named The Shawl by Cynthia Othick narrates the survival of a mother, daughter
and a niece, during the Holocaust, them being in a concentration camp and participating in death
marches. It fits the theme of survival of the fittest as the daughter, named Magda, was forced to
adapt to her needs after the mother was not able to do it. Stella, the niece, is a third wheel in the
story, she is most of the time ignored by Rosa as she fully concentrates in taking care of Magda,
or at least attempting to, and Stella is just left their as somewhat of filling character. The obscurity
of Stella is also stated by the author when she says Stella, cold, cold, the coldness of hell (1980)

Medical Injection
Traditional injection uses a syringe to insert liquid into body. The purpose of medical injection is to
pierce the material into the sufficient depth of skin. This kind of injection needs to use large
number of syringe needles, and according to [62],clients reported that an average of 8.7% of
injections employed shared syringe needles. Data from the Coalition for safe Community
Needle Disposal showed that in the year of 2011, 13.5 million people in the United States
produced 7.8 billion used sharps(needles, syringes, etc.) outside the traditional healthcare, and 1
million to 1.5 million of needles were used for illegal drug injections. Since blood borne
infections, like HIV, HBV, and HCV, can be commonly spread by sharing intravenous syringes,
huge number of substandard and illegal use of needles compares to share rate of 8.7%, the
potential spread of these infections cannot be ignored. Meanwhile, on the other side, the
application of micro needle can to large extent avoid this from its source. Micro needles, which are
recently developed by the Georgia Institute of Technology and the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention(CDC) [63, 64], are small patches that can be administered by untrained users. Small
needles are placed on the patch of about a square centimeter.... Show more content on

Spectral element method used in computational fluid dynamics is explained in [15] and [46].
For spectral element models of micro needle, the process is divided into two parts, the model of
flow in micro needle and the model of solution flux inside human skin. Incompressible
NavierStokes equations with slip boundary condition are solved inside micro needle. And the
human skin is treated as porous media, so Darcy Brinkman equation is solved to simulate this
process. At the same time, the output data of micro needle are taken as initial conditions of Darcy

Race Based Hostility And Bias
Who Polices The Police?
I can t breathe, imagine having to hear your father, son, or brother desperately gasp for air while
murmuring those words, I can t breathe. It s heart wrenching, but now visualize him being
viscously choked from behind by a police officer. The predicament is startling and unseen. Your
loved one has surrendered but the officer has no intention of relinquishing his grip, restricting the
airway, making it incredibly difficult to breathe. Suddenly, the policeofficer forces your loved one
s motionless body to the ground, proceeding by mashing his face into the pavement. Slowly
loosing conscious, he lifelessly lays on the Staten Island concrete. Nobody performs CPR, not even
the ambulance upon their arrival. Your loved one is pronounced dead at the hospital, and the
officer who stole his life walks a free man.
Race based hostility and bias is a major national issue affecting our democracy, and racial hostility
between minorities and the police is a significant societal problem (Police Traffic Stops and Racial
Profiling: Resolving Management, Labor, and Civil Rights Conflicts). These encounters are
becoming far too frequent. Eric Gardner is amongst one of the countless African Americans who
have been racially profiled and murdered by law enforcement. Allegations of excessive force by
police departments across the country continue to populate headlines more than twenty years after
the 1992 Rodney King incident (The Painful Legacy of Rodney King).

The Digital World Is Affecting Today s Youth
Sandra Boyd analyzes how nearly ubiquitous access to the digital world is affecting today s youth
in It s Complicated. She explains how the app generation is struggling to self identify and
successfully leverage the Internet to be app enabled. Youth s app dependency is a result of access
to digital technology and social media at an early age, and is preventing youth from properly self
identifying themselves. This, in turn, is affecting how they build relationships and how they think
creatively. The online community our group has decided to look into is the PCMasterRace
subreddit. This subreddit is a community of PC gamers sharing information about computer
hardware, postcreative and visually appealing computer configurations (called builds or rigs ) and
post satirical or funny pictures about trending topics. Reddit provides a platform for people with
unique special interests (i.e. PC s) to communicate and collaborate; it is a place where relationships
have the opportunity to be built and where creative ideas can be expressed openly.
Recently, a major topic of this subreddit has been to help console peasants ascend to the ranks of
the PC Master Race. Console peasants often deny that PCs outrank consoles in terms of
performance and ability when gaming and respond to PCMasterRace commentary by posting
nonsense, making claims that playing at suboptimal graphics settings on their consoles make for a
better atmosphere and an overall superior gaming experience.

care for patient s autonomy and confidentiality despite the medical care. Failure to act regarding
these can give rise to liability. One aspect of Patient s autonomy involves giving or withholding his

The process of consent should apply not only to surgical procedures but all clinical procedures
and examinations which involve any form of touching. This must not mean more forms: it means
more communication. As part of the process of obtaining consent, except when they have
indicated otherwise, patients should be given sufficient information about what is to take place,
the risks, uncertainties, and possible negative consequences of the proposed treatment, about any
alternatives and about the likely outcome, to enable them to make a choice about how to
proceed. 5 Besides, if a person lacks mental capacity to give valid consent, nurses caring for such
a person should be involved in assessing the treatment to be administered. However, they must be
aware of the legislation regarding mental capacity, ensuring that people who lack capacity remain
at the centre of decision making and are fully safeguarded. 6 The Mental Capacity Act (2005)
offers assistance regarding capacity . The Act applies to all aged 16 and above and to those with
learning disability, dementia, brain injury, autism and mental health issues. The Act presumes
capacity in relation to adults unless situation exists otherwise. It requires extending all sorts of help

Canada Vs. United States Health Care
Canada vs United States Health Care
President Obama promised to all Americans that they would finally have an opportunity to obtain
or purchase health insurance in the United States for the first time and for those that already had
insurance he promised to them that they would be able to keep the insurance they already had
and it would not increase because of Obama Care. After the passing of Obama Care the only truth
was that Americans could purchase health care but other than that the rest were lies. People that
already had insurance plans some of their plans went up and some plans even got dropped because
of Obama Care. Many Americans now ask themselves why do they have to suffer and pay more for
health insurance when they did nothing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
( Maria ) Obama Care is still a step in the right direction, though because it now allows anyone to
obtain health coverage that wants it. Lastly, another downside to Obama Care is that the people
that did not have health coverage before are now forced to get it or will get fined on their taxes
at the end of the year. Many Americans do not even have the money to buy it so how will they
pay the fine? It is highly unlikely the U.S government will never see that money any time soon.
The republican party to this day are still trying to repeal certain parts of Obama Care because it
does not work. The legislatures of the United States should take a hard look at how Canada
operates with their health care laws. In Canada their legislators passed a better law allowing all
citizens to have the same health care. Sure there are longer lines, but at the end of the day
everyone is on the same team. The U.S on the other hand has not played as a team but still as an
individual. Why make others pay higher prices for doing the right thing all their life? The U.S
legislators should pass a law like Canada and make everyone pay equally or do not pass anything
because it s not fair game. Health care is valued by many citizens in the United States and in
Canada. Both countries have their own health care systems to provide coverage for citizens.
Canada has basic health care coverage for all citizens through federal legislation, but not all
services are covered. Additional health

Heroism, Magic and Retribution in Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit
A fantasy is an imaginary world where all things imaginable can be brought to life. J.R.R Tolkien
portrayed fantasy through his use of skilled craftsmanship and a vivid imagination, which was
presented in each piece of literature he wrote. In Tolkien s two stories The Hobbit and The Lord of
the Rings we see the theme of fantasy brought to life through three essential elements, heroism,
magic and retribution. Heroism is shown through the character s courage and bravery in situations
where conflict arises and this enables them to be seen in a new light. Magic is a form of
extraordinary power seemingly through a supernatural force; it is used in a combination of combat

As a child this character encountered Smaug for the first time while fleeing the ruination of their
city; now even though Bard was overcome with the fear that every mortal has when they are
near one of these tremendous beasts, he was determined to stand his ground due to the love he
had for their small town. He was able to accomplish this impossible task because a small thrush
perched on his shoulder and told him of the one weak spot of the dragon, the hollow of its left
breast. Bard then inflicted death upon the terrible Smaug with his last arrow and was nearly killed
himself by the tremendous weight of the beast in the process, but he jumped out of the way and
into the water just in the nick of time. With a shriek that deafened man, felled trees and split stone,
Smaug shot spouting into the air, turned over and crashed down from high in ruin. (229)
A character that displays the traits of heroism is one who overcomes the odds through the use of
unique and valuable qualities; this remains just as true in The Lord of the Rings as it does in
The Hobbit. One truly heroic act occurred when Gandalf the Great, determined to defend the
fellowship took on a Balrog, this huge, bat like source of evil stood on the bridge to freedom and
did battle with the poor mage. Gandalf, stricken with fear caused the bridge to collapse and with it
fell the Balrog. However, with one last effort

MMA Training Videos
A question we get very often on our forum is about MMA training videos. Our readers want to
know which is the best set of MMA training DVD s for them available, online or offline.
Unfortunately, this question is very hard to answer. I ll explain in a minute.
But first, let s have a quick look at what MMA is. MMA is short for Mixed Martial Arts. It s a
fighting sport with lots of fans and several shows like UFC, Bellator, M1 Global and Elite XC.
UFC has become so famous that it s even threatening boxing s supremacy in popularity rankings.
MMA fighters employ techniques, holds, grappling moves, submission techniques, kicks and
punches from a wide variety of martial arts and from Brazilian jiu jitsu (BJJ), Muay Thai and Krav

Most training videos will focus on one or two styles max. So the right set of training DVD s for
you may not be the same as the one for the next guy. Additionally, some people need training videos
to start to train and ultimately start fighting in a ring. Others want to learn self defense techniques
from the Mixed Martial Arts training DVD s. Others are looking to pick up a few quick pointers
to help them out should they ever get into a street or bar fight, yet others look at it as a preferred
way of working out (subdivided in acquiring body weight and cardio exercise). A minority even
looks for them just to show off with their friends...
Then there are training DVD s and videos for beginners, for intermediary fighters and a few that
teach advanced techniques. This is very important! Trying advanced techniques as a beginner
might cause serious injuries to yourself or your sparring partner. Some of the advanced techniques
can cause death when executed in the wrong way or with excessive force. We recommend that you

Carl Freud And Freud s Three Stages Of Development
The third stage of development in Freudian theory is the Phallic stage , which starts at the age of
three and goes on until the age of six. During this particular stage according to Freud, children
are said to take pleasure in their genitals and they also struggle with sexual desires, especially
strong desires towards their opposite sex parent (girl desiring her father and boy desiring his
mother). This kind of behavior in boys is called as Oedipus complex , which according to Freud
means that the boys during this stage desire their mother and want to replace their fathers, who
are seen to be seeking the mother s attention, because of this desire the boy is afraid that his
father might find out and punish the boy by the process of castration(cutting off the penis) due
to which they may develop castration anxiety. And the same desire called Electra complex
which is the desire developed in girls for their fathers and in the thought of replacing their
mothers is discussed during later on by Carl Jung. This stage helps in the development of
Superego in life. The fourth stage of development according to Freudian theory is the Latency
stage , which starts at age six and continued until puberty or twelve years of age. During this
particular stage, the child s sexual desires than to subside and they start to additionally develop
their conscience or superego. They begin to act and behave socially accepted by learning
appropriate values from their parents or caregivers as their sex instincts are sublimated into
hobbies, school activities, and sports and they also start focusing on developing and maintaining
same sex friendships amongst their groups. The fifth and last stage of development according to
the Freudian theory is the Genital stage , which starts from puberty to adulthood. During this
particular stage, the sexual desire re emerges if every stage was developed correctly. In this stage,
adolescents join in appropriate sexual behavior with their partners and develop a secure relationship
which can later lead to lifelong commitment, marriage and focus more on reproducing their future
offsprings through sexual intercourse. During this stage, individuals find satisfaction in their work
and love. In order

Explain Why Barbie Is A Bad Role Model
Barbie is a bad role model for young girls. Research has shown that Barbie would have been
measured at 5 9 and according to one of her stages she would weigh only 110 lbs. Based on these
measurements Barbie,if a real woman, would have a B.M.I of 16.24 and would fit in the criteria
for being anorexic(Rampages Barbie). Who would want an anorexic doll as a role model for their
child? In 1959 the Barbie doll was first introduced by the company Mattel. Barbie was originally
meant to be the perfect woman. Standing at what would be 5 9 and weighing in at 110 pounds. As
stated before these types of measurements would have made barbie anorexic. As well as that, a
book was given out in the Slumber Party Barbie set that gave a very vague tip on how to stay
skinny. Don t eat . Any young woman that followed Barbie s tip were sure to result to anorexia.
In fact, 8 million people in the United States have this eating disorder, and only 10 15% of them
are male. Which leaves the 85 90% of them to be female. 80% of the female s are under 20 years

Analysis Of No Time To Stop By Kate Hosking
The feature articles No Time to Stop written by Kate Legge and The Ugly Truth about Beauty by
Julie Hosking, embody a range of generic conventions. Both articles make use of conventions
such as a descriptive opening paragraph, graphics and omission, to allow the journalists to present
their ideas and opinions effectively to the reader. A common idea evident in both texts relate to
children and society; the first article conveniently stating that if only we more willing to help and

girl and American girl. The contrast between these girls displays how invigorating the little
American princesses childhood is, alternatively how depressing the little Somalian girl s

poverty and how deceptive the other little girl s childhood is through the glamorisation and
vicarious motives of her mother.

what made previous collaborations in my life so successful and what made the more unfavorable

In all of my past successful collaborations, each member had a mutual respect for each other,
enjoyed each other presence, and worked together in an appropriate manner. To contrast this: in a
previous group that performed not successfully, it was due to internal conflict between my partner
and me. There was an obvious tension between us that made me want to disprove or reject any
idea they would suggest, even if it was good. Although we managed to put aside our differences to
finish the project, not many positive memories remained from that collaboration other than the
negativity and awkwardness between us. I understand how tension in a group could harm the
collaboration as it may lead to the rejection of positive ideas or worse case scenario, sabotaging
the project. Working in an atmosphere of stress definitely does not promote insightful and efficient
learning. To summarize my second reflection, I have learned the importance of the three
ingredients for a successful collaboration. Through elaborating on how each ingredient relates to
an event in my life, I believe it further strengthened my appreciation for both the article and
collaborating in general. I plan to enforce these ingredients in future group projects as it ll allow

Formalism And Realism In Film
Short Critical Essay #3 Option 2 Classical film theories are generally divided into two main
camps. They have been categorized as Formalism and Realism. The formalist approach looks at
the structure and form of the film. It analyzes the method by which the story materializes and how
it forces the viewer to react based on the way it is presented. It incorporates character development,
photographic composition, camera movement, set design, editing, etc. to that end. The realist
approach scrutinizes how a film represents reality. It is a mechanical reproduction of reality that
strives for objectivity and realism. The primary focus is always every day, true to life characters
and dilemmas, and the real life situations they are found in. Commonplace themes are the rule. To
achieve realism in cinema it was necessary to direct attention to the physical and philosophic
problems of ordinary existence. People emerge as victims of forces beyond their control in a world
at times seemingly spinning out of control. Although there are also a few similarities, formalism
and realism can be shown to offer substantially different approaches to the art of filmmaking and the
study of film. Realism is a style of filmmaking that attempts to duplicate the look of objective reality
with emphasis on authentic locations and details, long shots, lengthy takes, and a minimum of
distortion. Andre Bazin championed cinematic realism. He identifies Realism as a movement of
filmmakers who put their

Essay on The Success of the Willie Nelson Concert Experience
The concert of the Willie Nelson Experience (WNE) was a huge success. Our success shook the
roots of Arlington. Our rock n roll took us to the top. Although street performing is not as easy as
it looks, our legend of the great Willie Nelson Experience begins now. In this paper, I am going to
discuss my experiences playing in the WNE, the bass guitar, and the one and only Willie Nelson. In
the legendary WNE, I am the bass player. For this project, it took hours on end of studying the
bass inside and out to become this legendary player that I dreamt of before this project. The electric
bass, a mystical object that is the foundation of every song, was invented by Paul Tutmarc. Since

There is also a semi acoustic bass. It is only partially hollowed out. Hofner s Beatle bass is a good
example. Its the violin shaped bass that Sir Paul McCartney often plays. The double bass, or upright
bass has many different names. My favorite is the doghouse bass. This bass is often used in jazz.
People play this by plucking or slapping the bass. Another common use is in orchestras. People
play this style with bows. This bass is the largest and lowest pitched instrument of the viol
family. The viol family contain the viola, violin, fiddle, and many others. The upright bass was
the inspiration of all basses. I was the first bass and probably most important because of the
sparks it caused for new invention. All basses are in my opinion the most important instruments
because they hold everyone together. Learning to play the bass was my pleasure and I feel its
something I will use for the rest of my life. The WNE was inspired by Willie Nelson. In our first
performance, we featured On The Road Again (OTRA) and it was a huge hit. OTRA was
written early in 1979 on a train. Willie Nelson was studying his lines for the movie Honeysuckle
Rose when the executive producer asked him to write the theme song for their movie. 35 minutes
later, written on a barf bag, Willie Nelson had possibly the greatest country hit in his hands. Willie
Nelson had many albums that were critical to hi success. Shotgun Willie (1973), Red Headed

reach the point where they are no longer children, but adults. The transition from a child into a
young adult is often referred to as the coming of age, or growing up. The time when this transition
occurs is different in everyone, since everyone is an individual and no two people are alike. Certain
children reach this stage through a tragic, painful event which affects them to such extent that they
are completely changed.

They affirm community solidarity, and the sacredness of common values. (1995, Grolier

to adult status. Rites for males are usually more elaborate and dramatic and generally involve the
community more than do those for females. Among the African Gus ii, for example, girls are at
about age nine, boys at twelve years old; Thong a boys may be sixteen. Boys rites often involve
seclusion from women, hazing by older males, test of manliness, and genital operations, including
circumcision. Girls rites are just as bad if not worse with things like removal of the clitoris.
In some places in North America, the ritual is individual where as in Africa and Oceania the ritual
can be collective. A plain Indian adolescent boy undertakes a vision quest; he goes out alone

Disadvantages Of Map Reduce
Map Reduce
Introduction:
MapReduce is a simple and powerful programming model which enables development of scalable
parallel applications to process large amount of data which is scattered on a cluster of machines.
The original implementations of Map Reduce framework had some limitations which have been
faced by many research follow up work after its introduction. It is gaining a lot of attraction in both
research and industrial community as it has the capacity of processing large data. Map reduce
framework used in different applications and for different purposes.
Reason Behind Development of Map Reduce:
IT giant companies faced the problem of analysing huge sets of data (order of petabytes) E.g.

Independent of the storage MapReduce is basically independent from underlying storage layers. It
can work on Big Table and others. Many projects at Google store data in Big Table which have
different demands from Bigtable, in terms of data size.Bigtable has successfully provided a
flexible, high performance solution for all of these Google products such as Google Earth, Google
Finance.
Fault Tolerance MapReduce is highly fault tolerant, continues working in spite of failures per
analysis job at Google.

Real time processing.
It s not always very easy to implement each and everything as a MapReduce program.

Atticus Finch Injustice
The book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee has been a must read for so many years due to
the story of the common lifestyles in Maycomb, Alabama told by Scout Finch an eight year old
daughter of a well known lawyer, Atticus Finch. Atticus was not only known for his practice, he
was also well respected in his community because of his morals, and dedication to help his
people. The people of Maycomb have made a place in the readers hearts because of the difficult
situations there have faced. The rape trial against Tom Robinson has made an impact on Maycomb
no one could deny. The classic book has become massively influential because it has taught the

The character Atticus once again is a perfect role model of a person who has passion for their
job which gives him courage to change the world with his work in serving justice. Although the
case of Tom Robinson trial against Myela Ewell was sprung on him and he knew their chances
were hopeless, he still treated it like another case of his and braved the trial. When Scout asks
why Atticus must defend Tom Robinson, Atticus replies with the main reason being that he
couldn t be the lawyer, and parent he s worked hard to be any more if he didn t defend Tom.
Atticus s decision to defend Tom is born out of his need to be seen as a lawful, moral, responsible
citizen and father, not out of an urgent ethical need to change bitter racist conditions (Dogra, 43).
Courage in this circumstance is not the commitment to change the social class settings in
Maycomb, but it is to have the diligence to do your job the best you can in hopes that it will serve

How Did Ansel Adams Affect Society

Ansel Adams Research Paper
The splendor of Yosemite burst upon us and it was glorious... One wonder after another
descended upon us... There was light everywhere... A new era began for me ( American
Experience | Ansel Adams | People Events ). In year of 1916, he took his first trip to Yosemite
National Park with his family. There, he saw the incredible views of the park, views he would
continuously see throughout his life. His passion, not only for photography, but for nature surfaced
during this first trip to Yosemite in California. Nobody knew that this sudden passion would affect
the environment the way it did. Ansel Adamsused his photography in order to help national parks
gain popularity, as well as to help environmental groups. As one can see, Ansel Adams was an
extremely influential photographer and environmentalist, because of his dedication to preserving
nature, his support to the Sierra Club, and his famous black and white photography.
To start off, a very important part of how Ansel Adams career came to be is where he grew up.
Adams was born in San Francisco on February 20, 1902. He was born into an upper class family,

Environment Observation
Permission to observe Danielle in a familiar environmental setting was obtained by her mother
Jodie. The environment assessment was done at the assessor s house due to the observer caring
the child once to twice a month. The observation of Danielle, who turned two on Monday, March
14, 2016 (the day of observation), took place from 9 a.m until 11 a.m. The observerhad minimal
obstruction with the child s activities but was needed for some assistance. The two hours that
Danielle was observed she was independent as much as possible and did not speak with the
observer unless there was a need to. Danielle typically goes to her mother Jodie s parents on

The observer typically cares for the child in this room because it is a safe area in which the child is
to be easily cared for and can have toys of their own as well. The environment is socially
appropriate for the child because the child is able to interact with animals such as a dog and with
people such as the observer in an easy manner. For example, the child is able to be cared for in
this room because it is not too large nor too small for the child. The furniture of the room which
includes two chairs and a couch are a bit large for the child but they are easily accessible for the
child to get onto them without help. The child is also able to be independent in this room by
walking around or choosing a toy to play with when she wants. The room is physically

Organizational Growth
ORGANIZATIONAL GROWTH
_______________________________________
Growth is something for which most companies, large or small, strive. Small firms want to get big,
big firms want to get bigger. Organizational growth, however, means different things to different
organizations. How, then, is growth defined? How is it achieved? How does a company survive it?
PHASES OF GROWTH
A number of scholars and management theorists have developed models of how organizations
change and grow. One such model is that of Larry E. Greiner, a management and organization
professor at the University of Southern California. In his 1998 Harvard Business Review article
entitled Evolution and Revolution as Organizations Grow, Greiner outlined five phases of... Show

ROI tells management whether the profits being generated are enough to compensate for the
opportunity costs, the risks, and the time value of the money that the company has invested to
produce those profits. A related metric is return on assets (ROA), which evaluates profits against the
value of all the assets (capital, plant, equipment, etc.) the company has channeled into generating its
income.
For many companies, especially publicly held ones, the ultimate measure of growth is the creation
of wealth for owners/investors. While net profits are an indication of wealth creation, companies (or
their observers) may scrutinize their finances further to determine whether they are actually
generating an economic profit, or a profit that exceeds the implicit cost of the capital invested in
them. It is only after the cost of capital is met that the company may be said to create new wealth.
This growth may also be expressed in terms of market value added, a more direct measure of
shareholder wealth creation.
ACHIEVING GROWTH
While there are many academic models depicting the growth stages of a company, management
guru Tom Peters strongly suggests several real world ways for companies large and small to
achieve organizational growth. The business press routinely reports on the activities of companies
employing these suggestions.
JOINT VENTURE/ALLIANCE.
This strategy is particularly effective for smaller firms with

Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are two of the most historic mass murders in American history.
They are the two kids who attacked columbine high school on april 20, 1999. Ever since that day
people have been constantly looking for the reason they did it but they actually did it for a number
of reasons, not just one like many people think. There is a number of reasons for why Dylan and
Eric did what they did, and why they clicked so well together. Dylan Klebold was a very smart kid

Eric Harris is described by experts as a textbook example of a psychopath. Just like Dylan, Eric
also did not feel like he fit in with other students despite the fact that Eric was more talkative and

stayed very calm under pressure unlike Dylan, but he would rant about his anger on his own
personal website, a website filled with violent tirades against the people who were mean to Eric
or anyone he simply did not like. Eric was believed to be a psychopath with no remorse or
empathy for the things he was going to do which is most likely why he was so okay with killing
as many people as possible and really just releasing all his pinned up fury against the place that he
hated most. Dylan and Eric had a very strange chemistry between their often very different
personalities. Even though their personalities were often very different they were both very skilled
at math and even had a mutual love of technology. The reason these two really clicked though is
because they could play off each others strengths pretty well in a variety of situations. For example

Subculture And Its Impact On Society
Subculture refers to a minority of individuals who adhere to different rules, dress codes and lifestyle
choices from mainstream culture. Throughout this essay the traditional definitions of subcultures,
that mainly concentrate on class and style as their main features, will be looked at and explained. It
will then be demonstrated how these ways of thinking are no longer relevant to the 21st century
therefore the term subcultureneeds to be rethought for it to be an applicable category in the 21st
century.
The term youth subcultures was first made and studied at the University Of Chicago in America
(Blackman, 2003) . The school was of the sociological discipline and looked at subcultures as
deviant groups, much of the research was conducted on gangs. The theorists were in disagreement
with the picture the mass media had been painting about youth. This picture was of a homogeneous
group in which class was not a factor and all youth adhered to one unified culture (Dvarionaite,
2015). Early American theorist of the Chicago school believed class was a leading factor as to
why there was social disorganisation. Albert K. Cohen went on further to explain how class created
divisions in society. Cohen described subcultures as emerging when, a number of actors with
similar problems of social adjustment interact with one another and innovate new frames of
reference. (Gelder and Thornton, pp 13, 1997). Cohen proved this through he s work with young
male delinquent

Pesticides In The United States
The use of pesticides in the United States began after WWII. During this time there was no
regulation on the use of pesticides such as DDT and other chemical compounds known as

pounds a year. Pesticides are also sold for home use as well, this poses a main health concern to
the general public who are unaware of the potential hazards of selling pesticides.
Farmers dust or spray 850 million pounds of pesticides a year on food products that are
available to american consumers. Some of the similar pesticides are sold in areas of stores that
are near garden produce. These pesticides include fungicides, miticides, insecticides, rodenticides,
and herbicides. In a survey done about pesticides in grocery stores, it was to see how close the
pesticides were to fresh produce . In approximately half the stores, pesticides were located 50 feet

Reflection about the movie Good Will Hunting
I chose to write about the movie Good Will Hunting because it shows how one s life,
relationships and future are ruined because of repression and not believing in one s self. The
main character of the movie is Will Hunting. He is a twenty year old MIT janitor. Will decided to
take revenge on someone who used to abuse him in the past, and physically assaulted him which
led to his arrest. He suffered a terrible childhood as he grew up as an orphan in various foster
homes where he struggled from physical abuse. Luckily for him, Will got the attention of a
brilliant MIT professor who was curious about his gifts. He managed to get the judge to let Will
go with the condition of him visiting a psychologist. Will started to receive support and a caring
environment as he started dating a gifted pre med student who became his girlfriend and gave him
the opportunity of experiencing love. He also received the support from his psychologist who

and people fighting their way out. I imagine myself in Will s situation where nothing is going
right, I don t make enough money to live, I don t goals, and most importantly I do not believe in
myself. Now here s where the environment should step in and support me and tell me that I am
worth something, and that I am capable of doing great things and that I should believe in myself.
The support of the environment will change people s lives because it is what incentivized all great
men in history to accomplish all those achievement. Behind every great man, a great woman this
quote explains how can the support of a wise hardworking and caring mother could lead her boy to

Advantages And Disadvantage Of Passive Targets In...
Passive tags
Today, the passive tags are the simplest form of tags without any power source such as a battery,
in order to start communication with the reader. The passive tag gets its power from the radio
waves transmitted by the reader. The tag contains minimal information such as the unique tag ID
and it can be read at a range of ten to twenty feet away from the reader. Passive tags are cheaper to
manufacture and are mostly used in disposable items or they can also be used in asset management.
Radio frequency bands, the memory used inside the tag, antenna design etc. act as a factor to the
cost of passive tags. Passive tags operate at various frequencies ranging from low, high, ultra high
to microwave frequencies. The manufacturing of passive tags ... Show more content on

These tags are more expensive than passive tags the reason being the internal hardware and the
range that they cover. The cost of the tags is based on the storage type, battery and the area that the
tag can cover.
Semi passive tags
Semi passive tags are a combination of active and passive tags. Even though they do not initiate the
communication with the reader, they contain batteries to respond back to the reader with its own
power. Such type of tags are useful in environments where continuous monitoring is required over
large areas.
Sometimes in order to save the battery life of the tag, the tags remain in the passive state and wait
for an activation signal from the reader. Once the signal is received, it uses its own battery power
to transmit the signals. Semi passive tags can also be connected to the sensors to store sensor
information.
To summarize passive tags are the most used tags if we can trade off with its major disadvantage: it
cannot cover longer ranges as in the case of active and semi passive

Neural stack is a type of data structure. Neural network helps in learning push and pull the neural
network by using the back propagation. There are some of the pre requisite of this
understanding of neural network in general. It is better if we understand how neural networks
will help to push the stack on sequences and pull off it in a reverse order. It is better to have a
sequence to be pushed over 6 numbers by popping 6 times and pushing it over 6 times and reverse

White People In To Kill A Mockingbird
In today s day and age, the United States of America is seen of as the land where every human
being is treated fairly. However, it was not always like this and America was considered to be one
of the most racist countries in the world up until the 1980 s. From 1885 to 1968, when the Jim
Crow laws were in place, black peoplewere segregated from whites and were treated like second
class citizens. However, black people fought for equality all throughout the Jim Crow era and
finally succeeded after the civil rights movement in the 1960 s. Blacks in the American South
sought to improve their lives by supporting and helping white people that had helped them
before, by joining the American military, and by protesting against segregation and their rights.
One way that the blacks could improve their lives is by supporting white people, especially
white politicians that acknowledge who they are and try to do something to help them. In the
book To Kill a Mockingbird , Atticus Finch is well respected by the black community after he
attempts to defend Tom Robinson, a black man accused of murder. It says in the text, I looked
around. They were standing. All around us and in the balcony on the opposite wall, the Negroes
were getting to their feet (Page 215). That quote tells the reader how desperately the black
community in Maycomb is to create a name for themselves by respecting well known white

Mexico: Drugs or Democracy
Introduction
Illicit drug trade between Mexico and the United States, estimated between $17 billion and $38
billion a year in 2009 by the Drug Intelligence Center, has a long and storied past. Cartels operated
with relative impunity from government prosecution during the seventy year reign of the
Institutional Revolutionary Party, (PRI). The movement from an authoritarian government system
of the PRI to the liberal democracy initiated by the election victory of the National Action Party,
(PAN), candidate, Vicente Fox, in 2000, disrupted the status quo. Election gains by PAN
Representatives disrupted long standing agreements between the cartels and government officials
which led to the increased violence that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The DFS was supposed to fight drugs but one of the founders, Senator Colonel Carlos Serrano,
was tied to the drug cartels. His appointment provided a direct link between the ruling political
party and the drug cartels ensuring a flow of profits to government officials in exchange for
protection and also mitigated the need for drug traffickers to participate in politics. This
collaborative arrangement produced several decades of minimal drug related violence which was
directed at opposing groups and did not affect the general population.
Social changes in the United States during the 1960s and 1970 accompanied increased
consumption of marijuana and later cocaine use became more widespread in the 19080s. The
proliferation of drug use in American society prompted a change in the political view on drugs and
the United States government declared war on drugs. The U.S. government focused on the drug
producing and trafficking nations and pressured those nations into joining the war . Mexico was
pressured into heightening its efforts to combat drugs which included military operations to
destroy drug trade and growing fields. These efforts focused on migrant workers forced into labor
by the drug lords, barely disrupting the cartel s operations.
The link between the DFS and the Mexican political structure came to an end with the assassination
of U.S. DEA agent, Enrique Camarena, in 1985 and the subsequent pressure on the Mexican
government.

Lutheran Religion
For my extra credit project, I went to the Lutheran church in my hometown. I was raised and

my Sundays. I learned that there are more differences between the two then I expected. I honestly
did not think that another religion based on Christianitywould be that different. Before the service,
I did a little bit of research of the Lutheran church. I wanted to know what the actual definition of a
Lutheran was, I found a website that gave me some insight. According to the website, A Lutheran

No matter the denomination, Lutherans emphasize details of the ceremony more than we do at

Methodists believe in an open communion instead of a closed one and our pastor always says
everyone is welcome at God s table. The worship consisted mostly of reading the traditional
liturgy. This seemed a lot less personal than the worship services that I am used to. A lot of the
service also took place moving from standing to sitting and back again. Without following visual
cues, it would be very hard to understand exactly what you were supposed to do at different points
within the service if you were new or unfamiliar with Lutheran traditions. Another thing that really
stood out to me was the idea that after the service, you had to wait to be dismissed before leaving
the sanctuary. They dismissed by row to ensure that you had time to talk to the pastor after worship
without being too rushed. Overall it was a great experience and I learned a lot talking to members
of the church. I learned a lot about how traditional and related to catholicism the Lutheran church
actually is. It was fun to get to learn that even though the Lutheran church and the methodist church

Analysis Of The Last Days Of Innocence
Sandy Tom HIST 1302 XS1 Read Write #1 Meirion and Susie Harries Do You Want To Live
Forever The Last Days of Innocence talks about the involvement of America in World War 1, when
more than five million servicemen took part, and nearly a quarter were wounded or dead. The
author documents the alliance among the American, French, and British who plays a significant
role in defeating Germany and other Axis nations. Specifically in chapter 23, Do You Want To Live
Forever , ................. The chapter starts out with the German s attempt to damage the French
morale by turning Paris mood of defeat and depression into panic with the German s new weapons
of long range guns that could fire seventy five miles away. Analysts say that... Show more content

Harbord told his men to rest and planned to begin a barrage at dawn June 9. When they
continued the barrage on June 10, they lost no men crossing into the woods and attacked the
Bois de Belleau successfully. At this point, the troops were on the brink of collapse. Water was
short, and most were living off of greasy, corned beef, bacon, or hardtack. Nevertheless, Harbord
intended the marines to finish the job. On the same day, he ordered Major Frederick Wise to
clear the northern end of the wood. Wise was practically repeating the dame attack Major Berry
had made on the first day, but Harbord assured that he would get support from Hughes and a
heavy artillery barrage. Unfortunately, the next morning, Hughes had failed in his operation by
not establishing a line across the neck of the woods for backup. As Wise struck from the west,
Hughes was still struggling half a mile south behind with the machine guns. As the nightmare
from Major Berry s attack repeated itself, the men were emerged in high explosives and machine
guns. The men were later left armless, injured, and tearing on the face. Major Holcomb was
ordered to relieve Wise but before they got any further, the enemy released barrages of gas and
high explosives. Wise, expecting nearly a thousand men to aid him, only received about 300. As
Wise reported that he was no longer capable of attacking the enemy, Harbord assigned Lieutenant
Colonel Logan Feland to launch another attack to clear the

Early Cinema Versus Modern Bodies Of Work
When looking at early cinema compared to modern bodies of work, one thing that has changed
dramatically was the way films were edited. From the 1900s through the 1960s, films such as L
Arroseur arrosГ©, Battleship Potemkin, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and Citizen Kane, all had
their own way of telling a visual narrative. I m going to give examples of how editing evolved and
what techniques were developed. When looking at the LumiГ©re bros, one of their earlier works L
Arroseur arrosГ© , the editing was very simple. What we see on screen is a wide angle two shot of
a man working in a garden, using a hose. Now here s the key component, by choosing a wide
angle shot, we re able to see a second man walk into frame stepping on the... Show more content on

In his experiment, Kuleshov placed actor Ivan Mosjoukine with shots of three different subjects:
a hot plate of soup, a girl in a coffin, and a pretty woman lying in a couch. The footage of the
actor was the same expressionless gaze. The audience thought his performance was amazing, even
though in each shot he looked hungry, then sad, then lustful. As mentioned in Sikov, Film Studies:
An Introduction, Eisenstein used montage to convey and explore revolutionary ways for the
audience to watch films. Eisenstein believed that montage must consist of colliding shots.
Editing the shots rapidly, to exhibit conflict, making a sequence that more intense. His film,
Battleship Potemkin, is a great example of the soviet montage. There s one sequence in
particular, The Odessa Step that helps express this. It starts out with a wide angle shot of the
crowd, followed by multiply medium shots of the citizens waving to the sailors. shows their
facial expression, as they have wave to the ship. Then suddenly, we get a closeup shot of a
woman in distress, quickly followed by a extreme closeup shot of the same woman, looking even
more frantic. As we see the citizens of Odessa run in terror, one thing that stands out, is the woman
with the white umbrella. As the citizens run franticly down the steps, the woman runs directly into
the camera, by doing so, she creates her own cut in the clip. Next he swiftly cuts to a extreme long
shot showing a soldiers following the

Differences And Characteristics Of The French And Ottoman...
The French and Ottoman Empires were both similar and dissimilar. Using Fukuyama s three
categories of institutions one can compare and contrast the shared characteristics of the two
empires. Fukuyama argues that a modern liberal democracy needs a state, rule of law and
accountability. A state is a centralized authority that holds military power on a selected territory. It
is the armed forces that keep a nation safe on a domestic and foreign level. On the other hand, the
rule of law came about through written legislation. Thus, written rules, organize power in a system
no matter who is in power. This implies that a modern democracy must have legal institutions that
are superior to a ruler, the army and bureaucracy. Finally, political accountability comes through
accountable bodies like parliament s and assemblies that represent the people. In the end,
Fukuyama claims democracy is truly born when laws reflecting the people s desires are stronger
than individual rulers and elections are held. The Ottoman Empirehad many victories until its slow
decline at the end of the 16th century. Constantinople, the Byzantine capital falls to the Turks in
1453. In 1526, the Ottomans conquered Hungry in the Battle of Mohacs, but were pushed back in
1529 at Vienna. The Ottoman empire relied on a system of military slavery. Within the Ottoman
military, the Muslims were officers, and those who did not share the state religion made up the
backbone of the military.

Clayton County Population Health Case Study
Among all the factors that are attributed to population health, the environment is perhaps the
greatest. It is common knowledge in public health that if the physical environment is unhealthy, so
is the population that live there. Even though the many of the environmental issues are being
addressed by the State and County authorities, Clayton County is experiencing a slow rate of
change. While the air pollutionparticulate matter is declining, it is currently at 13.2, which is higher
than the national average of 9.5, and the 12.8 for the state s average.2 In addition, this county has
drinking water violations and severe housing problems. As a result of these and other environmental
issues, Clayton County ended up with a county ranking of 159 out of 159.1 This is not a good thing
for the population of Clayton County.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As with the environment, this health factor is also a great indicator of the health status of a
population, because if babies are not being born or are dying prematurely, this can have long term
economic consequences and population decline. Therefore, it is paramount that much efforts are
put into lowering infant mortality rates According to State of Health Report, Clayton County
ranked high in infant mortality in the State of Georgia. In addition, it ranked highly in premature
births and low birth weight. The most current data show the infant mortality rate to be 9.2,
premature birth at 11.0 percent, and low birth weight at 10.4 percent among all ages and races.6
These disparities are much greater among the various age group and race. Because the issue of
maternal and child health is such a major factor in the overall health of the population of Clayton
County, the focus will be centered on the issues of infant mortality and the magnitude of the
problem confronting the population of this

  • 2. The Themes In The Shawl By Cynthia Othick The Short Story named The Shawl by Cynthia Othick narrates the survival of a mother, daughter and a niece, during the Holocaust, them being in a concentration camp and participating in death marches. It fits the theme of survival of the fittest as the daughter, named Magda, was forced to adapt to her needs after the mother was not able to do it. Stella, the niece, is a third wheel in the story, she is most of the time ignored by Rosa as she fully concentrates in taking care of Magda, or at least attempting to, and Stella is just left their as somewhat of filling character. I can t breathe, imagine having to hear your father, son, or brother desperately gasp for air while murmuring those words, I can t breathe. It s heart wrenching, but now visualize him being viscously choked from behind by a police officer. The predicament is startling and unseen. Your loved one has surrendered but the officer has no intention of relinquishing his grip, restricting the airway, making it incredibly difficult to breathe. Suddenly, the policeofficer forces your loved one s motionless body to the ground, proceeding by mashing his face into the pavement. Slowly loosing conscious, he lifelessly lays on the Staten Island concrete. Nobody performs CPR, not even the ambulance upon their arrival. Your loved one is pronounced dead at the hospital, and the officer who stole his life walks a free man. Race based hostility and bias is a major national issue affecting our democracy, and racial hostility between minorities and the police is a significant societal problem (Police Traffic Stops and Racial Profiling: Resolving Management, Labor, and Civil Rights Conflicts). These encounters are becoming far too frequent. Eric Gardner is amongst one of the countless African Americans who have been racially profiled and murdered by law enforcement. • 16. Formalism And Realism In Film Short Critical Essay #3 Option 2 Classical film theories are generally divided into two main camps. They have been categorized as Formalism and Realism. The formalist approach looks at the structure and form of the film. It analyzes the method by which the story materializes and how it forces the viewer to react based on the way it is presented. It incorporates character development, photographic composition, camera movement, set design, editing, etc. to that end. The realist approach scrutinizes how a film represents reality. It is a mechanical reproduction of reality that strives for objectivity and realism. The primary focus is always every day, true to life characters and dilemmas, and the real life situations they are found in. Commonplace themes are the rule. To achieve realism in cinema it was necessary to direct attention to the physical and philosophic problems of ordinary existence. People emerge as victims of forces beyond their control in a world at times seemingly spinning out of control. Although there are also a few similarities, formalism and realism can be shown to offer substantially different approaches to the art of filmmaking and the study of film. When Scout asks why Atticus must defend Tom Robinson, Atticus replies with the main reason being that he couldn t be the lawyer, and parent he s worked hard to be any more if he didn t defend Tom. Atticus s decision to defend Tom is born out of his need to be seen as a lawful, moral, responsible citizen and father, not out of an urgent ethical need to change bitter racist conditions (Dogra, 43). Small firms want to get big, big firms want to get bigger. Organizational growth, however, means different things to different organizations. How, then, is growth defined? How is it achieved? How does a company survive it? PHASES OF GROWTH A number of scholars and management theorists have developed models of how organizations change and grow. One such model is that of Larry E. ROI tells management whether the profits being generated are enough to compensate for the opportunity costs, the risks, and the time value of the money that the company has invested to produce those profits. A related metric is return on assets (ROA), which evaluates profits against the value of all the assets (capital, plant, equipment, etc.) the company has channeled into generating its income. For many companies, especially publicly held ones, the ultimate measure of growth is the creation of wealth for owners/investors. While net profits are an indication of wealth creation, companies (or their observers) may scrutinize their finances further to determine whether they are actually generating an economic profit, or a profit that exceeds the implicit cost of the capital invested in them. It is only after the cost of capital is met that the company may be said to create new wealth. This growth may also be expressed in terms of market value added, a more direct measure of shareholder wealth creation. Throughout this essay the traditional definitions of subcultures, that mainly concentrate on class and style as their main features, will be looked at and explained. It will then be demonstrated how these ways of thinking are no longer relevant to the 21st century therefore the term subcultureneeds to be rethought for it to be an applicable category in the 21st century. The term youth subcultures was first made and studied at the University Of Chicago in America (Blackman, 2003) . The school was of the sociological discipline and looked at subcultures as deviant groups, much of the research was conducted on gangs. The theorists were in disagreement with the picture the mass media had been painting about youth. This picture was of a homogeneous group in which class was not a factor and all youth adhered to one unified culture (Dvarionaite, 2015). Early American theorist of the Chicago school believed class was a leading factor as to why there was social disorganisation. Albert K. Cohen went on further to explain how class created divisions in society. Cohen described subcultures as emerging when, a number of actors with similar problems of social adjustment interact with one another and innovate new frames of reference. Such type of tags are useful in environments where continuous monitoring is required over large areas. Sometimes in order to save the battery life of the tag, the tags remain in the passive state and wait for an activation signal from the reader. From 1885 to 1968, when the Jim Crow laws were in place, black peoplewere segregated from whites and were treated like second class citizens. However, black people fought for equality all throughout the Jim Crow era and finally succeeded after the civil rights movement in the 1960 s. Blacks in the American South sought to improve their lives by supporting and helping white people that had helped them before, by joining the American military, and by protesting against segregation and their rights. This collaborative arrangement produced several decades of minimal drug related violence which was directed at opposing groups and did not affect the general population. Social changes in the United States during the 1960s and 1970 accompanied increased consumption of marijuana and later cocaine use became more widespread in the 19080s. I m going to give examples of how editing evolved and what techniques were developed. When looking at the LumiГ©re bros, one of their earlier works L Arroseur arrosГ© , the editing was very simple. What we see on screen is a wide angle two shot of a man working in a garden, using a hose. Now here s the key component, by choosing a wide angle shot, we re able to see a second man walk into frame stepping on the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his experiment, Kuleshov placed actor Ivan Mosjoukine with shots of three different subjects: a hot plate of soup, a girl in a coffin, and a pretty woman lying in a couch. The footage of the actor was the same expressionless gaze. The audience thought his performance was amazing, even though in each shot he looked hungry, then sad, then lustful. As mentioned in Sikov, Film Studies: An Introduction, Eisenstein used montage to convey and explore revolutionary ways for the audience to watch films. Eisenstein believed that montage must consist of colliding shots. Editing the shots rapidly, to exhibit conflict, making a sequence that more intense. His film, Battleship Potemkin, is a great example of the soviet montage. There s one sequence in particular, The Odessa Step that helps express this. It starts out with a wide angle shot of the crowd, followed by multiply medium shots of the citizens waving to the sailors. shows their facial expression, as they have wave to the ship. Then suddenly, we get a closeup shot of a woman in distress, quickly followed by a extreme closeup shot of the same woman, looking even more frantic. As we see the citizens of Odessa run in terror, one thing that stands out, is the woman with the white umbrella. • 41. Differences And Characteristics Of The French And Ottoman... The French and Ottoman Empires were both similar and dissimilar. Using Fukuyama s three categories of institutions one can compare and contrast the shared characteristics of the two empires. Fukuyama argues that a modern liberal democracy needs a state, rule of law and accountability. A state is a centralized authority that holds military power on a selected territory. It is the armed forces that keep a nation safe on a domestic and foreign level. On the other hand, the rule of law came about through written legislation. Thus, written rules, organize power in a system no matter who is in power. This implies that a modern democracy must have legal institutions that are superior to a ruler, the army and bureaucracy. Finally, political accountability comes through accountable bodies like parliament s and assemblies that represent the people. In the end, Fukuyama claims democracy is truly born when laws reflecting the people s desires are stronger than individual rulers and elections are held. The Ottoman Empirehad many victories until its slow decline at the end of the 16th century. Constantinople, the Byzantine capital falls to the Turks in 1453. In 1526, the Ottomans conquered Hungry in the Battle of Mohacs, but were pushed back in 1529 at Vienna. The Ottoman empire relied on a system of military slavery. Within the Ottoman military, the Muslims were officers, and those who did not share the state religion made up the backbone of the military. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
