The Importance Of Choosing And Completing An Experiential...
The morning ritual for millions of Americans is waking up in the morning and drinking their favorite
blend of coffee. What would happen if you didn t drink coffee and changed this routine? How would
you react? What would you do instead? What would you realize? Habits have this insurmountable
power that can shape every aspect of our lives. From the way we dress, to what we eat, to how we
communicate can all reflect back to comfort, personality, and routine with controlling aspects in our
lives. We act this way because society believes it is acceptable or we dress this way to remain
professional in the workplace. It s possible this thought process could be translated towards culture

The Selection of Task Reasoning The selection of this task presented several reasons for choosing to
work with confronting sexual orientation and homophobia. I initially was curious about working with
task because of my current residence in relationship the task. In research conducted by Schrimshaw,
Siegal, DowningJr., and Parsons (2013) outlined the correlations of socioeconomic status and social
support as predictors of maintaining concealment of sexual orientation. Furthermore the impact of
internalized homophobia of self and others can significantly impact an individual s level of comfort
associated with concealment. Personally, living in a town with varying levels of SES and social
support of same sex couples led me to choose this task. Additionally, choosing this task led me to
understand the perceptions of where I lived and to gain a deeper understanding related to further
research necessary with this population.
There were many reasons as to why I choose this task. It specifically led me to looking at the political
perspective related to same sex couples. Research conducted by Slenders, Sieben, and Verbakel (2014)
studied the relationship of tolerance amongst 40 European countries and found that the use of
legislation and political party can influence or deter tolerance towards homosexuality. In

Evaluation Of The New Edition Includes Supervision
Glickman, Gordon and Ross Gordan (2014) wrote, Like schools, supervision can be conventional,
congenial, or collegial. Throughout most of its history supervision has operated from within a
conventional paradigm (world view), attempting to control teachers instructional behaviors. Based on
what we know about successful schools, the time has come to move from conventional schools (still
dominant in the United States) and congenial schools (less prevalent throughout the nation) toward
collegial schools (growing in number and success). (p. 7). In order supervision in schools to move
towards a collegial style, there has to be a shift of thinking and focus to working with teachers, not
teachers working for them.
According to Glickman, Gordon and Ross Gordan (2014), the title of the new edition includes
SuperVision, a term that denotes teaching and learning should developed collaboratively amongst
teachers and supervisors. This term also implies that this same group of individuals should work
together to build a democratic community where they make the school vision a reality (p. 8). In order
to make this paradigm shift, supervisors have to understand the different types of supervision and
understand when they are appropriate to use. The four models include directive control behaviors,
directive informational behaviors, collaborative behaviors, and nondirective behaviors. Supervisors
using the first type of supervision, direct control behaviors, are assertive and

People Express Airlines: Rise and Decline
I guess the single predominant reason that I cared about starting a new company was to try and
develop a better way for people to work together . . . that s where the name People Express came
from. Most organizations believe that humans are generally bad and you have to control them and
watch them and make sure they work. At People Express, people will be trusted to do a job until they
prove they definitely won t. Donald C. Burr Founder, CEO People Express Airlines Under mounting
pressure to permit more competition, Congress deregulated the airline industry in 1978. By December

The airline industry was viewed as a commodity business, but Burr saw a chance to offer a better
product to customers. (PE believed that customers, rather than passengers, created a more appropriate
mindset.) But taking advantage of deregulation was not the only reason Burr wanted to start the
company: greater, perhaps, was his desire to build a better organization one that was both more
productive and more fun than what he considered to be typical in American business. He was tired of
the politics and the beat them and they ll do more management styles he had seen all his professional
life. He was tired of what he called the deadening grind and lack of vision of T.I. s business style. He
wanted to design a new kind of airline, one that would provide both better and cheaper service, and be
an exciting and rewarding place to work. The focus of the company would be on people: hence its
name, People Express. From its inception, therefore, PE was seen as a chance by Burr and his
management team to experiment with and demonstrate a better way of managing not just an airline,
but any business. While Burr recognized his stance was contrary to the majority of organizations in
the United States, he rejected any insinuation that he was optimistic or soft. I m not a goody two shoes

The Role Of Innovation For Firm Growth
The role of innovation for firm growth
The aim of this report is to explore the role of Innovation for firm growth. This will be carried out by
examining the current literature surrounding innovation and firm growth and choosing articles from
relevant journals which are appropriate to the aim. Rather than conducting a brief analysis of several
articles, this report will instead make one highly relevant article the focus and will contrast its findings
and methods with other research papers in an attempt to add to or challenge the article.
The article in question is titled Firm growth and innovation: Towards a typology of innovation
strategy by Vasco Eiriz, Ana Faria and Natália BarBosa and was published in Innovation:
Management, Policy Practice on Volume 15, Issue 1, March 201398. This article was chosen because
the authors are prolific writers on innovation and entrepreneurship with over twenty articles between
them and have been cited hundreds of times. Additionally, the article in question is recent and covers
many of the traditional and emerging theories of innovation and firm growth and so serves as a review
on the current state of literature on the topic. Furthermore the article proposes a novel idea, that the
stage of the firm in the growth cycle is a highly relevant factor in determining what type of innovation
should be used.
The aim of this article is to increase insight of how a firm s innovation strategy explore different

Autoliv
Business Brief Abstract This business brief will discuss Autoliv, a Fortune 500 company who
manufactures automotive safety components (Krajewski, Ritzman, Malhotra, 2013). Autoliv has over
80 plants in more than 32 countries, all of which run on a lean manufacturing system, which is
referred to as Autoliv Production System (APS) (Krajewski, Ritzman, Malhotra, 2013). Toyota
pioneered the principles that the APS is based on (Krajewski, Ritzman, Malhotra, 2013). Another A
lean system allows businesses to improve operations, by getting rid of the unwanted waste , such as
overproduction, transportation, waiting, motion, inventory, defects, etc (Krajewski, Ritzman,

Some of the visual aids that Autoliv uses are as follows: Blue communication wall, which consists of
company goals related to customer satisfaction, shareholder/financial performance, and safety and
quality (Krajewski, Ritzman, Malhotra, 2013). Each cell that the employees work in have a banner
that shows how well the cell is doing for the month (Krajewski, Ritzman, Malhotra, 2013). There are
heijunka cards in each cell and a rail is in place to help manage the workload. The rail is color coded
and each employee knows what each color represents, which helps keep them on task (Krajewski,
Ritzman, Malhotra, 2013). In short, the visual aids can help simplify the role of what is expected in
each cell by every employee. A quick glance can give an employee an idea of how well they are doing
currently, compared to the month. Just In Time Considerations (JIT) The Just In Time Philosophy
(JIT) is simply to eliminate waste, by cutting excess capacity or inventory and removing any activities
that do not create value (Krajewski, Ritzman, Malhotra, 2013). As mentioned in the introduction, there
are certain items that need to be gotten under control in order to run a neat, lean system. The goals of a
lean system are to eliminate eight types of waste (overproduction, inappropriate processing,

Marking The Streets By Frank Gallucci
Marking The Streets Frank Gallucci
What do you think of when you hear the term Street style ? For many, the term conjures up endless,
and I mean endless, images of white, middle class guys with far too much time and money on their
hands. These dandies (a man who is devoted to style) flaunt themselves from one high street coffee
chain to the next, waiting to run into a street style photographer so they can light up a cigarette and
pose pretty seductively. Would I be wrong in saying that?
Having said that, street style still manages to be about so much more. Its not all about spending hours
in front of the mirror trying to own the obligatory street style pose , which more times than one
usually ends up with you standing on one leg looking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oops. In all honesty though, street style is essential to the world of fashion. It is something that drives
not only high fashion, but high street trends too. There is no doubt that when it is done properly, you
could call this an art form in itself. This is something that shows us the complex relationship that is the
real world and the world of aesthetics. And if that doesn t convince you then I think you need to take
note from a couple of guys who don t get dressed in the morning in the hopes of being snapped at they
get their morning coffee fix.
Have you ever heard of the term sprezzatura? Do you understand it? No need to worry, just ask Frank
Gallucci. But if you cant get him I guess I will do. Sprezzatura is an italian word that originated from
The Book of the Courtier . The author, Baldassare Castiglione, defines the term as a certain
nonchalance, so as to conceal all art and make whatever one does or says appear to be without effort
and almost without any thought about it . So basically, Frank Gallucci.
This guy is proof that Italians do it better. This is a guy who has put Pitti Uomo on the street style map
good job, sir. Gallucci s regular mash up of Italian tailoring and trouser shirt combos have become his
signature and even one of the most sought after attractions at the biannual Pitti Uomo

Theories And Theories Of An Observation On The Sacred Disease
Reasoning from observations has been important to scientific practice at least since the time of
Aristotle. This view is motivated by the assumption that the epistemic value of an observation report
depends upon its truth or accuracy. However, perception is imposed upon scientific thinkers by their
paradigm and theoretical commitments. Developmental ideas are consequently the result of theory and
technology ladenness of observations. Theories and technology have a corporate communication,
where technological development can generate new organizational theories and previous theories can
inspire new technologies or practices. This is evident in the medical writings of the Hippocratics,
Methodists, Erasistratus, and Aristotle.

The author does not dismiss the divine cause of a disease. It was believed that the gods and the forces
of nature were one in the same. In addition, the other presupposition was that body is related to and
affected by the environment. Consequently, the author observes that treatment was sustained by the
observation of the external signs . This leads the author to search for the physical mechanism that
occurs in the body to create the disease. In his observations, the author concludes that imbalances of
the elements in the body (like the environment) cause disease. While physical and rational
observations allow the author to properly treat a disease, the author s methods of allopathy are built
upon the theoretical presupposition that the gods have indefinite power over the human body.
Alternately, the Methodists develop a logical, simplified understanding of medicine base of the
teachings of Asclepiades and the Roman medical schools in the Hellenistic era. The Methodists hold
that the Art of Medicine consists of such observations; which they define as a sort of way, which they
name methodos, and maintain that medicine should examine those characteristics which diseases have
in common (Celsus, On Medicine, proem. 56). They conclude that medicine is no more than the
awareness of general, recurring features that manifest in a tangible way. They are not concerned with
the hidden causes of the disease, as the

An oligopoly is a market situation in which relatively few sellers [like Burger King, McDonald s]
compete and high start up costs form barriers to keep out new competitors [like Five Guys Burgers
and Fries] (Boone and Kurtz, 2012, p. 80). Within this competitive fast food burger industry, the main
product being offered is a hamburger.
However, one of Five Guys unique features compared to Burger King and McDonald s is to only offer
fresh, never frozen, eighty percent lean meat burgers that are made to order. Many of the traditional
fast food burger restaurants, only offer frozen patties cooked in advanced, and stored under heated
lamp until ordered by the customers. They also offer the customers seventeen free toppings for their
burgers. Additionally, they use the same kind of bun for the burgers; as well as the original baker.
Subsequently, Five Guys does not sell dehydrated French Fries unlike its competitors. Their potatoes
are slowly grown in Northern Idaho, where the weather conditions are quite favorable for growing
solid and tasty potatoes. Many of the competitors reduce their costs by purchasing potatoes from
California or Florida, where they are grown fast and are a lot cheaper. Five Guys guarantees freshness
by cutting the potatoes every morning while leaving slivers of skin on.

Billy Pilgrim s Struggle with PTSD in Vonnegut s...
In order to illustrate the devastating affects of war, Kurt Vonnegut afflicted Billy Pilgrim with Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), which caused him to become unstuck in time in the novel. Billy
Pilgrim illustrates many symptoms of PTSD throughout the story. Vonnegut uses these Slaughterhouse

the book are parallel to real life experiences of war veterans, including Vonnegut s, and culminate in a
very effective anti war novel.

Billy Pilgrim has come unstuck in time. Billy has gone to sleep a senile widower and awakened on his
wedding day (Vonnegut 23). Throughout the book we are taken on a spastic and wild journey from
one moment in Pilgrim s life to another. For instance, Pilgrim is walking through the horribly cold,
bleak and depressing German landscape with The Three Musketeers and ends up being dragged by
Weary most of the way. As soon as the two scouts ditch him and Weary and it seems their ordeal
couldn t get any worse, Pilgrim time travels to a moment in which he has just won the Presidency of
The Lion s Club and proceeds to gives an impressive speech. (Vonnegut 48 50). This sort of behavior,
completely dissociating oneself from the horrible situation at hand, is typical of PTSD. Pilgrim wanted
to escape completely from the cold and depressing hell he was in and be back in happiness, where he
had just won a successful campaign for the Presidency of his club. This is what happens throughout
the book and it is simply another example of Pilgrim s widespread and horribly debilitating case of
PTSD.

described as, ... veterans complained of palpitations, chest pain, headache, dimness of vision and

The Black Death As A Turning Point Essay
The Black Death was a bubonic plague pandemic that spread throughout Medieval England during the
years 1348 1350. The Black Death is believed to have killed between 30 45% of people in England
alone. There were numerous ideas if what the cause of the disease was but in reality, was a bacteria
born disease from the bacteria Yersinia pestis, which was carried on the fleas off infected black rats
and spread to Europe by Genoese trading ships from Asia. Some historians believed the Black Death
marked the beginning of a deep recession within Britain as well as the beginning of the Renaissance, a
period of striking artistic expression, whereas other historians seem to take the view point that the
Black Death simply amplified an already declining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regardless, the decline in population may have simply marked a continuation of what was already
happening in Britain as according to Waley demographic growth had come to an end before the Black
Death had arrived in Europe and that it merely accentuated an existing trend, due to the severe living
conditions at the time as a result of poor sanitation and the Great Famine of 1315 17.
Inflation and a shortage of labour supply immediately implemented farmers as would likely have not
been able to afford to pay for their land due to a loss of rental income from tenants, causing them to
lose their land. Many farmers, according to Rubin sought to move away from labour intensive
cultivation to more diverse activities such as mining, pasturing and fisheries, as required less care than
crops, indicating a turning point in the ways that farmers sought to earn their money. This is supported
by Dyer , who analysed the consumption of foodstuffs of harvest workers in Norfolk, to find an
intensification in meat consumption to 15% in 1353 from 9% in 1341 and a decrease in bread
consumption from 34% in 1341, to 31% in 1353. This indicates a clear shift, which may have resulted
from the impacts of the Black Death, inferring that there may have been a turning point at the time as

Essay about Dow Chemical Case
Dow Chemical Case Question 1 Polyethylene is the world s most widely used plastic. Polyethylene
plastic s principal application was in packaging, from trash bags to milk jugs. It was widely used in
the manufacture of everything from trash bags, picnic cutlery and garbage pails, to plastic toys.
Polyethylene also replaced glass, wood, and metal in certain applications. There were three types of
polyethylene, Low density polyethylene, High density polyethylene and Low linear density

The expansion of its polyethylene capacity in Bahia Blanca would require the company to build a

Therefore, Dow had to not only consider what to bid for PBB in the privatization, but also develop an
overall plan for the development of Dow s polyethylene business. Dow had to incorporate the terminal
value of each stage of the project. Question 3: The followings are the arguments that support the
acquisition of PBB: 1. The whole project will increase Dow shareholder s wealth. As a public
company, the first aim of the management team is to increase the shareholder wealth. The project
proposed by the management team is definitely consistent with this goal. And bidding on the PBB is
the first stage of the whole project. The exact increase in shareholders equity may be various at this
point as it depends on lots of other factors ( we will discuss the risk of valuation thought the whole

polyethylene activity under Dow s control. The 3 stage project will make Dow to be the leading
company of polyethylene in Argentina, even in Latin America because of its MNC background. This

Stages Of Cellular Respiration In Plants
All of the following compounds are required at some stage of cellular respiration in plants, except
A. NAD.
B. sugar.
C. adenosine diphosphate.
D. oxygen.
E. carbon dioxide.
Cellular respiration occurs in both plant and animal cells. Both types of cells are very similar,
containing similar organelles such as the mitochondria. The mitochondria is the site of cellular
respiration, where glucose and oxygen can be used to produce ATP and carbon dioxide. In plant cells
energy is created through the process of photosynthesis, the conversion of energy from the sun into
chemical energy. Autotrophs are able to utilize photosynthesis to sustain themselves without
consuming food to obtain energy. The site of photosynthesis takes place in the cell s chloroplast
(Citovsky, Lecture 20). A large, concentrated portion of chloroplast can be found within the plant s
mesophyll, the interior of a leaf. Photosynthesis is broken down into two stages: light reactions and
the Calvin cycle. Through light reactions, solar energy can be converted into chemical energy
(Campbell, pg. 189). In the Calvin cycle, usable energy in the form of sugars are synthesized from
carbon dioxide.
Choice A NAD is incorrect. NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme which
functions as an intermediate for energy transport during cellular respiration (Citovsky, Lecture 18). In
the first phase of photosynthesis, light reactions, solar energy is converted into NADP+ (nicotinamide

First English Parliament During The Industrial Revolution
7) Parliament comes into being (Jan. 20, 1265) After his victory at the Battle of Lewes over Henry III,
De Montfort seized power in England. Even though he was in control, De Montfort s grip on the
country was threatened. He summoned the barons and the county knights, along with burgesses from
major towns to join him January 20th in an attempt to gain more support. This was called De Montfort
s Parliament. They discussed reforms and were able to temporarily stabilize de Montfort s political
state. Unfortunately, later that year he was killed at the Battle of Evesham, but his idea of parliament
did not die out. Under reign of Edward I, the idea of inviting both knights and the burgesses to
parliament become more popular. By the 14th century, this became normal and it became known as
the House of Commons. This parliament sometimes in referred to as the First English parliament, and
de Montfort is most often deemed the founder of the commons. 8) Industrial Revolution (1760 1850)

The Viability of Nuclear Energy Essay
The world as we know today is dependent on energy. The options we have currently enable us to
produce energy economically but at a cost to the environment. As fossil fuel source will be
diminishing over time, other alternatives will be needed. An alternative that is presently utilized is
nuclear energy. Nuclear energy is currently the most efficacious energy source. Every time the word
nuclear is mentioned, the first thought that people have is the devastating effects of nuclear energy.
Granting it does come with its drawbacks; this form of energy emits far less pollution than
conventional power plants. Even though certain disadvantages of nuclear energy are devastating, the
advantages contain even greater rewards.

As a result, numerous countries are creating more nuclear power plants. From the 1990s, the rate of
nuclear power plants constructed increased because of technological and managerial, deregulation,

As each year passes, more and more electricity will be made as a result of increased nuclear power
plants around the world. The economic benefits of nuclear energy are equally advantageous as the
environmental aspects.
A competitive, safe and environmentally sustainable energy source can be established anywhere on
earth. Essential, all that is needed to create a nuclear power plant is a water source to cool down the
reactor and uranium. Uranium can be found virtually in every country on earth. Even though it might
be harder for certain countries to obtain uranium, there would be no problem in finding it around the
world. Figure 2. This image illustrates where major reserves of uranium are found on earth.

Provided that countries can acquire uranium, they can create clean and safe energy. Generally nuclear

Powdered Milk Lab Report
Our experiment consists of trying to figure out the heating temperatures of different types of proteins.
The proteins we tested were albumin (eggs), casein (milk), and keratin (hair). For the experiment we
did six different tests. We tested powdered milk twice, eggs twice, and hair twice. The steps of my
experiment consists of first gathering the materials, we will then cook the two proteins for until they
are fully denatured. We will then record the information gathered in the experiment. As we start
cooking the eggs, we noticed that the egg white part of the egg will gain a white hue. It will them
become more solidified and denatured. Next, we moved onto testing the powdered milk. After we
followed the instructions on the milk to make it

The Controversy Over Abortions By Judith Thomson And Don...
To put it simply, an abortion is defined as, the intentional termination of a pregnancy most often
preformed before the third trimester (within weeks 1 28). The controversy over abortions usually
stems from the difficulty between individuals to agree on a set of conditions that would constitute
ones decision, to abort as just. This issue is examined by many philosophers, particularly, Judith
Thomson and Don Marquis. Both philosopher s views loosely encompass the complex underlying
beliefs of those who stand behind the pro life and pro choice arguments. Tomson and Marquis
demonstrate the very distinctively different perspectives one could take on the issue. Don Marquis
suggests that fetuses, being persons, possess the right to a future like ours and that it would be wrong
to intentionally impede on the life that I would have lived if I had lived out my natural lifespan except
for in rare circumstances . While, Tomson asserts that not all abortions are morally wrong, nor do they
violate the victim s right to life , and by having one that is in no way indicative that a fetus s rights
have been violated. Despite the fact that both philosophers present valid positions, and outline their
key differences, Tomson goes far beyond Marquis efforts by illustrating that the way in which we
view abortions ought to be redefined in order for one to maintain a clear perspective. In Don Marquis
An Argument that Abortion is Wrong he sets out to prove that abortions are unethical

Separation of Gold
The industrial separation process that I have decided to do is gold separation. Gold separation can be
done in a number of ways but there is not always one way to do it, but the combination of a couple of
these processes to extract pure gold. Gold is obtained form the lithosphere. It is separated from the ore
found in the lithosphere.
Gold s symbol is Au. Its atomic number is 79 and has an atomic mass of 196.96655 amu. Its melting
point is 1064.43°C, while its boiling point is 2807.0 °C. It is a transition metal and is yellow or gold in
colour.
There are also many principles used in the separation of gold. One of these is boiling points in the
process of smelting. In Froth floatation, the principle is the organic chemicals in the ... Show more

Heap Leach Process:
Low grade gold bearing ore is mined in an open cut, then crushed and screened. Lime is mixed with
the ore to control the pH of the leaching operation. The ore is piled into heaps on polyethylene pads
and cyanide solution is sprayed over the heaps. The cyanide dissolves most of the gold as it trickles
through the ore, producing a pregnant solution which is collected in drains at the edge of the heap and
pumped to a gold recovery circuit, usually a Carbon in Leach
Mining:
Gold in the ground occurs either mixed with loose materials (alluvial) or as grains locked amongst
other mineral grains in solid rock. Some gold may be chemically combined with other elements in the
mineral grains. To obtain a sellable gold end product, ore must be mined and concentrated. The gold
must be liberated from other interlocking minerals then separated from all other contaminants.
Dredging:
Some of the alluvial goldfields discovered early this century were mined using floating dredges. In
Australia, some rivers in the Snowy Mountains and particularly in central Victoria at Beechworth,
were mined by this method.
Normally a pond is built for the dredge which uses a chain bucket at the front to excavate the loose
gold bearing sediment The gold is separated by gravity sorting

The Impressions Of Timothy Treadwell s Grizzly Man
Imagine voluntarily getting into a cage with wild Grizzly Bears, and having nothing to defend
yourself. This is what Timothy Treadwell did, except he upped the ante and chose to live alongside the
Grizzly Bears of Katmai National Park in Alaska. The last 13 years of Treadwell s life, he spent the
summer months living with the bears. Grizzly Man is a film that was created by Werner Herzog. The
film show contains content that Treadwell filmed himself, as well as portions filmed after his death,
that have Werner interacting with people who knew Timothy very well. I believe that this film is very
well put together and does a great job of showing Treadwell s interactions with the bears, with
minimal input from the narrator. I enjoy this part of the film because it allows you to form your own
opinion of Treadwell and see what he thinks is best for himself and the bears. In this paper, I will be
touching on how Treadwell s actions throughout the film relate to writings done by; Michael Nelson,
J. Baird Callicott, and Reed Noss. Some of Nelson s wilderness preservation arguments fit right
alongside what Treadwell is doing on his expeditions. Calllicot and Noss focus on wilderness
alternatives and the impact that humans have on the environment. My first impressions of Timothy
Treadwell were that there is no possible way this man has become one of the bears and spends most of
his time right next to them. He looked weak to me and someone who could easily be dispatched of.

Garner and colleagues also noted a trend toward noncurvaceousness from 1960 to 1979. The bust and
hip measurements of Playboy models decreased and their waist measurements increased significantly.
These findings are consistent with those reported by Silverstein, Perdue, Peterson, and Kelly (1986)

to 1981 and of popular movie actresses from 1941 to 1979. The investigators found that among the

Additionally, the average bust to waist ratio of actresses from the 1960s and 1970s was significantly

Briefly, a behavior may result either in reinforcement, which increases the likelihood of the behavior
recurring, or punishment, which decreases the likelihood of the behavior recurring. It is important to
note that, a punishment is not considered to be applicable if it does not result in the reduction of the
behavior, and so the terms punishment and reinforcement are determined as a result of the actions.
Within this framework, behaviorists are particularly interested in measurable changes in behavior.
Educational approaches such as applied behavior analysis, curriculum based measurement, and direct
instruction have emerged from this model.[1]
[edit] Cognitivism
Main article: Cognitivism (psychology)
The earliest challenge to the behaviorists came in a publication in 1929 by Bode, a gestalt
psychologist. He criticized behaviorists for being too dependent on overt behavior to explain learning.
Gestalt psychologists proposed looking at the patterns rather than isolated events. Gestalt views of
learning have been incorporated into what have come to be labeled cognitive theories. Two key
assumptions underlie this cognitive approach: (1) that the memory system is an active organized
processor of information and (2) that prior knowledge plays an important role in learning. Cognitive
theories look beyond behavior to explain brain based learning. Cognitivists consider how human
memory works to promote learning. For example, the physiological processes of sorting

Senate Vs House Of Representatives
The largest compromise in the U.S. Constitution is known as the Great Compromise. This was a
compromise between two completely different plans on how the U.S. Legislature should be laid out.
The framers of the constitution decided on a two chambered Legislature. Each chamber has many
different requirements, structures, responsibilities, and powers. Because of these differences, the
Senate is known as the upper house, and the House of Representatives is known as the lower house.

These differences are why the Senate is known as the upper house, and the House of Representatives
is called the lower house. According to the Constitution, to be a member of the Senate a candidate
must be at least thirty years of age, be a citizen of the United States for nine years, and must live in the
state at the time elected. To be a member of the House of Representatives, a candidate must be at least
twenty five years of age, must be a citizen of the United States for seven years, and must live in the
state at the time elected. These different requirements support that the Senate is the upper house
because the requirements needed to be in the Senate are stricter than those of the House. The
structures also differ greatly. There are 435 members of the House and only 100 members of the
Senate. Because of this, each individual member s vote in the Senate is worth more than each member
of the House. Also a Senator s term lasts longer than a Representative s term; a Senator s term is six
years and a Representative s is two. Because of this, Senators have more time to make and change
legislation. Also if a House member makes changes that voters don t like, they can be replaced in
under two years. In the Senate, however, if negative changes are made, there isn t anything voters can
do for years and they can continue to make changes that are disagreeable to voters. The two chambers
also have different responsibilities and powers that show that the Senate is the upper house. The
House has the power to impeach government officials. They act as a prosecutor . The Senate holds the
trials of impeachment and acts as judge and jury (United States Senate). The Senate acts as the upper
house because the House only brings issues involving impeachment to the attention of the Senate. It is
the Senate who actually can impeach officials. The Senate also has

Eight Psychological Types
The personality, or psyche, is a unity that includes all thought, feeling, and behavior, whether
conscious or unconscious. 2. The ego, the organization of the conscious mind, screens experiences for
admission to consciousness. Hence, the ego is often referred as the gate keeper to consciousness. 3.
Forgotten, suppressed, or rejected experiences are stored in the personal unconscious. 4. A complex is
a group of ideas that cluster together in the personal unconscious. 5. The collective unconscious is
composed of primordial images, or archetypes, inherited from our racial, and even animal, past. Its

in the personality system stays the same, and within the system energy remains in balance. 12. Psychic

the unconscious. 13. The individuation and the transcendent functions involve making what is

Textual Evidence Analysis
Teaching students how to provide accurate evidence from parts of stories, such as chapters, dramas,
and poems when writing or speaking about a text, and to describe how each successive part builds on
earlier sections is significantly important, because it improves the student reading comprehension
skills, which is a prerequisite for becoming a great reader. Previously, I taught my student to identify
key elements in a story to help her find the main idea and to use context clues to determine meaning of
words. However, after the lesson, I noticed my student made a poor effort to refer back to the story
when writing or talking about the story to provide appropriate evidence. In this lesson, my student will
not only summarize the story, but my student will also go back to the chapters, paragraph or stanzas to
provide accurate evidence. By doing that, my student will successfully completed the New York State
common core standard, which is Refer to parts of stories, dramas, and poems when writing or

What Is The Moral Education In The Pardoner s Tale
In The Canterbury Tales the group of pilgrims are traveling together and to make the trip more
enjoyable, the Host suggests that the pilgrims each take turns sharing stories, two a piece on the way
there and two on the way back. In addition, they turned the storytelling into a competition, whoever
tells the story that is the worst must buy dinner among other things. The winner will be judged by the
moral education and entertainment value of the stories. Between The Knight s Tale and The Pardoner s
Tale , The Pardoner s Tale meets the winning criteria the best. The Pardoner s Tale is more
entertaining as well as has a better moral education, despite being told by the least entertaining and
moral man of the pilgrims. The moral education of The Pardoner s Tale is the best of the two stories.
The Pardoner s Tale is following the theme Greed is the root of all evil. In the story, three drunk men
decide to start a bond of brothers and seek out death, who took one of their drunken friends. In the
search of death, they came across an old man, whom they harassed. The old man told them that death

The president may chose to hold a press conference, run commercials, hold a fireside chat, or run a

factor in the president s mobilization of support for a program in congress is presidential patronage.
Presidential patronage as defined by the president now in office, giving his best supporters or
contributors key positions in office. In order for the president to be able to rally support quickly and
efficiently from the public, having people in offices or positions of influence over many people is very
favorable. As these people who being given patronage jobs for their support of the president, will feel
obligated to show support. Not only can the people the president appointed to office show their
support but they can rally their underlings in office for their support also. This is a very favorable way
for the president to gain momentum with his bill, because these people are basically guaranteed votes
and need only to show their strength to congress to support this idea. Mixed into the patronage idea
are the contributors necessary for most of the funds behind a campaign. The president has the
advantage here, because he can appoint these contributors to honorary positions. Therefore threatening

Descriptive Essay On Chlorine Water
The familiar, inharmonious clamour frustrates me as I struggle to maneuver my way through the bulky
chlorine water. I roll over to take a breathe and gasp shamelessly: my lungs burn with the intake of
oxygen, and the absorbed energy is not sufficient. I approach the wall and as I come off of the flip

The sight brings forth a nostalgic memory, and sequentially a profound sense of energy. My eyes dart
back to blocks and there s definitely something else, something missing. I just can t grasp the idea. I
shove my confused thoughts away and concentrate on swim practice and the set intervals. My legs

clock. Their fingers ram into the ebony black touchpad, and their exhausted faces twist to see the
blinking scoreboard embossed with time results. Watching their rosy faces and stocky movements as
they climb out of the pool, my stomach churns with an uneasy mixture of butterflies and the food I
definitely shouldn t have consumed 5 minute before a race.

Musical Theatre School Admission Essay Sample
Musical theatre first sparked my interest in the summer between my fourth and fifth grade year, when
I decided to participate in a local theater camp. Immediately, I knew that this world of lime lights and
drama was where my dreams and passions would come to fruition. Ever since, I have dedicated
myself to creating a life and a career in musical theatre. My academics have always been my top

feel very lucky to have experienced both schooling options. Homeschool shaped me to be a motivated
learner because I had to make the decision to get up and work through all my homework and lessons

become a leader, and knowing when to follow. Although some may look at my academic career and

What the media fails to accurately portray is that feminists strive to promote equality for both women
and men. Utilizing feminism as their secret weapon to add diversity to the overly male punk scene, the
riot grrrls managed to successfully promote women s rights with politically charged tunes that
empowered women to make a change.
However, despite of its fabricated intentions, the media proposed a valid argument against the
movement: why the movement did not last over the years. One often overlooked aspect of Riot grrrl
was that although it claimed to revive the feminist appeal by standing up for ALL women, the majority
of its efforts seemed to appeal more in favor of middle class Caucasian women. Members with a
variety of ethnic backgrounds who identified themselves as riot grrrls felt that that their adversities
and struggles as both minorities and women were not equally put into perspective as much as those of
their counterparts. This flaw within the movement has negatively affected its social longevity and
overall appeal to a wider range of women, yet the dedication to spread awareness on intimate struggles
and successful establishment of a community within the movement have proven to still be both
effective as well as inspiring in today s modern society. Without a doubt, the riot grrrl movement took

identified as being gifted and talented (G/T) and who had emotional and behavioral disabilities (EBD).

the questions which are raised about the size of the sample that was used, it is also necessary to point
out the lack of detail present concerning how the sample was chosen. Andrew s reflective experiences
several years after they occurred surely cannot be as valid as for example, a sample of children

Morrison and Omdal had valid reasons for choosing Andrew as their lone participant, but this detail is

the nature of this study, which could prove significant with regard to his responses to the interview
questions, especially as he talks with such fervour about his experiences. Since they only had one

Religious Beliefs In Hinduism
Hinduism has arguably the most convoluted history of all major religions in the world; like every
other religion, it surely has been sculpted by a plethora of cultural pressures. But unlike any other
major religion, Hinduism comprises of innumerable gods, an untold amount of scriptures, and
countless rituals. Even within the Hindu triumvirate, which consists of three gods, Brahma, Vishnu,
and Shiva, who are responsible for the creation, upkeep and destruction of the world, people hold
different beliefs about what exactly they signify.
As one might imagine, there is an immense spectrum of artistic depictions of these gods. Yet the icon
emblematic to not only Hinduism but to India itself is the god with many limbs, adorned with and
framed by extravagant jewels and allegorical figures. Artisans meticulously craft their work when
depicting these gods, premediating every detail and their symbolic implications. Even so,
interpretations on these pieces may vary greatly depending on the beliefs of the person being asked.
Of the three deities composing the Hindu triumvirate, Shiva is the most paradoxical: he is both the
destroyer and the restorer, the great ascetic and the symbol of sensuality, the benevolent herdsman of
souls and the wrathful avenger. (*) According to Hindu belief, Shiva s destructive power is not
arbitrary, but constructive; he destroys the delusions and fallibilities of man to make way for
beneficial change. Shiva is therefore seen as the source of both good

images that have consumed mainstream American life. Mendes exploits these images as constructions

She is often caught, consciously making references concerning images. Referring to Jane

attending during these gaps can break the habit of hearing only what we already understand
(Heidegger , 1971, p. 54). Palmer (2009) described a tragic gap, the space between hard realities and
what one knows to be possible. Transformational: Core Strength Spirituality The transformational
development from learner to leader is a spiritual journey. It is a renewing of the mind. It is an
awakening to and acceptance of multiple ways of knowing Truth. It is a transformational process of
becoming which is a singularly powerful lived experience. More importantly, this spiritual journey is a
deconstruction and reconstruction of self; it is a movement from individualistic academic pursuit
toward scholarship embodied. The process and processes by which learners develop into leaders are
critically important to advancing the global health and education priorities of the 21st century. The
globalization and interconnectedness of industry, healthcare, and education in higher learning
institutions demand the development of astute, inspired, and effectual thought leaders. According to
Boyer (1990), without the vigorous pursuit of free and open inquiry this country simply will

Photojournalism is Subjective NOT Objective Essay
Photojournalism has long been considered to have a tradition of reflecting the truth. It has been a
major element in newspaper and magazine reporting since the early 20th century. It was probably only
about a century ago when people believed that what they saw in photographs was factual. This impact
of visual image as seen by the viewer was based on the old belief that the camera never lies . Wheeler
says that photojournalism has acquired a special standing in the public mind, a confidence that photo
can reflect reality in a uniquely compelling and credible way. (Wheeler T, 2002, p. 3) This acquisition
is formed by a creation of a powerful picture, which is the combination of both truthfulness and visual
impact. In general, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Photos are just recorded information and how it is presented is actually based on individual
interpretation by the photographers themselves. It is not absolute reality because the viewers
themselves are not there to witness the event; therefore it is not entirely factual. The meaning of a
photo illustration is also dependent on viewers individual views and assumption. As the old metaphor
says, is the glass of milk half full or half empty?
Gatekeepers such as publishers and the government play a role in photo manipulation. As Newton
(Newton J, 2001, pg. 74) suggests that those who tend the gates of reportage tend power . These
people are the ones who decide what the public ‘needs to know , what is ‘appropriate , what is
‘news and also what the public needs to ‘see . Gatekeepers as such must answer questions like: Will
publishing a picture of the body of a drowning victim prevent others from drowning at the same spot,
or will it only exploit a tragic situation to sell newspapers? (Newton J, 2001)
Another significant reason that has played a vital role in photojournalism of recent times is the
emergence of imaging technologies. Imaging technologies has undoubtedly played a major part in the
works of a photojournalist today. Based on earlier accounts on how photography itself is an inherent
manipulation, the question is no longer directed on ‘how has imaging technologies manipulate
photojournalism but ‘how much more has imaging

Goddess Of Brilliance And The Moon Essay
The Titaness of Brilliance and the Moon, or prophetic radiance is what Phoebe, a Greek mythological
Titan, was what she was commonly called. Although she was never referred to as the goddess of the
moon, she is often associated with Selene, who is the goddess of the moon (Luna in Latin). She is also
associated with Saturn, the sixth planet from the sun. In almost every picture of Phoebe, she is placed
next to the moon with a shield and bow and arrows. Phoebe was not one of the most popular or well
known Titans in Greek mythology, she was often always in the background of everything. Although
there is little information about her, she still is a major goddess because she was one of the first twelve
Titans, which explains why she took the side of the Titans in the War of the Titans. She also happens
to take part in the ancient Greeks creation myth story. Phoebe is the daughter of Uranus (Sky) and
Gaea (Earth). Which means she was part of the very first dynasty of the ancient Greek gods. There is

Also, her Roman counterpart was Dione. Her legend and myth plays an extremely important role in
the history of Ancient Greek mythology and the study of Greek classics. Her mother Gaea gave her
place to her one of her sisters, (Themis), whom then gave it to Phoebe. She was the third prophet at
the Oracle of Delphi, and according the to Aeschylus myth, Phoebe constantly felt like she was
carrying an enormous burden. Therefore, she decided to give the Oracle of Delphi to her grandson
Apollo as a birthday present. Since Apollo was so grateful that he presided over the lights of the
heavens. She also recalls hearing her mothers voice during the Oracle of Delphi. But, because of her
being that resembled mortals that possessed magical and mystic personalities, she was often golden
crowned or golden wreathed

Case Study Of Swift Burgers
Karen Deria is a married mother of two children in a typical family home in Marikina City. To support
her children s education, Mrs. Deria decided to venture in a burger making business after realizing that
she has a great recipe for burgers. In January 2016, she made use of a capital of ₱500,000 to start this
venture. She named her business Swift Burgers because it aims to produce ready to serve burgers in
hopes of competing with the large fast food chains around her area while providing customers with
affordable yet delicious burgers. Ultimately, she envisions Swift Burgers to be easily available and
affordable all over the Philippines.
Swift Burgers can be classified as a sole proprietorship, or an unincorporated business owned and run
by Karen Deria herself, with no distinction between the business and the owner. In other words, she is
entitled to all profits and is solely responsible for all the business s debts, losses and liabilities. ...

Deria decides that it would be best to open her stall within the Marikina area. Being a resident of the
city, Mrs. Deria has familiarized herself with the tastes and wants of her target market. To begin, she
manages to rent a stall at SM Marikina s food court, where she must pay a monthly rent fee of
₱40,000. According to the agreement between Swift Burgers and SM Marikina s management, the
former may only begin operations on January 2017 and the payment of rent is to be made at the end of
each month, beginning with the end of January 2017. Another clause in their contract is that Swift
Burgers must have a certain type of stall; the cost of the stall itself, exclusive of any equipment,
amounts to ₱25,000. The current equipment she needs include a griddle (costing ₱4,000), a fryer
(₱3,000), and a refrigerator (₱7,500). In addition, she also buys the following utensils: 2 tongs

Ionic and Covalent Compounds
Introduction:
Methods:
Water solubility
melting point
conductivity of electricity
properties of covalent bonds:
Liquid or gaseous (its state at room temperature)
It is formed when two non metals have similar electro negativities
Its melting point is low
Properties of ionic bonds:
Solid (its state at room temperature)
It is formed between a metal and a non metal
Its melting point is high
Two methods chosen: Method 1: Water solubility can be used to figure out if a compound is ionic or
covalent because once the compound is put into the Distilled H2O it would dissolve since its ionic but
if the powder is insoluble then its covalent meaning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the powder dissolves then to make sure it is ionic or a type of covalent pour the 150 ml of ethanol
into a beaker and pour 1.5 grams of the same powder into the chemical, if the powder dissolves it is
covalent but if it doesn t dissolve its ionic.
8. Record all observations on the reaction of the water and ethanol
9. Repeat steps 1 8 for other 5 powders
Melting Point procedure:
1. Take the aluminum dish and separate the middle using a pencil
2. Put 3 grams of two different powders in the separate panels
3. Put the retort stand over the Bunsen burner
4. Turn the Bunsen burner on and set a specific temperature(start low) place the aluminum dish on the
retort stand above the Bunsen burner
5. If the powder does not burn then raise the temperature to a very high temp.
6. If the powder melts at a high temperature (800 plus) then its ionic but if it melts at a low temp its
covalent
7. Make sure to use the infrared thermometer to check what temperature the powder started melting at
and record the reaction and what temperature the powder melted at
8. Repeat steps 1 7 for the other powders

Adsorption Modeling Of Breakthrough Curves
Adsorption modeling of breakthrough curves
A successful design of a column adsorption process requires prediction of the concentration time
profile or breakthrough curve for the effluent. (a,aa14, aa15, aa7, aa2). There are two widely used
approaches to obtain the breakthrough curve of a given adsorption system: direct experimentation or
mathematical modeling. The design of an adsorption column through experimental method provides a
direct determination of the salient parameters based on the breakthrough curve. However, the
extensive experimentation is usually a time consuming and economically unfeasible. (B6 )
Comparatively, mathematical modeling is simple and provides a method of estimating the column
adsorption capacity without ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A linear regression was applied to equation 4 and the values of No and ka were computed from the
slope and intercept of the BDST plot between ln(Co/Ct 1) versus t at different adsorption parameters
such as flow rate, bed height and influent adsorbate concentration. These BDST parameters were used
to predict the maximum metal uptake capacity (qcal) under different process conditions and were
compared with the experimental values (qexp) in relation to the estimated values of ka and No. As
shown in Table 1a and b, the values ka decreased with increasing bed depth and influent metal
concentration, but increase with increasing flow rates. Meanwhile, the values of No declined with the
increase in bed height and flow rate. This trend can be explained on the fact that at increased bed
heights more number of active sites is available for sorption to give higher total metal uptake but
reduced per unit removal, whereas at increased flow rate the volume of adsorbate that entered the
column was higher and caused the bed to saturate early. As with increased metal concentration, the No
values were found to be increasing due to higher loading of metal on the adsorbent achieved in a short
period of contact. This discussion shows that the overall kinetics of adsorption process is governed by
external mass transfer. (aa26, aa7,aa14, aa27)
The BDST model is valid for the describing the initial part of breakthrough curve

Manipulation In The Last King Of Scotland
The Last King Of Scotland Politics is always an act of manipulation and there may be a dissonance
between the public persona of a leader and the ruthless actuality of their lives. Kevin Macdonald s
2006 political biopic film The Last King of Scotland is based on political and personal events
throughout the narcissistic Adi Amin s despotic, traumatic and destructive rule of Uganda during the
1970s. It shows two different representations of Amin: one that manipulates his public persona as
someone who works for and with the people and the other as someone ruthless who will manipulate
anyone to stay in power. The film is also an act of manipulation as we witness these events through
the perspective of the politically naïve and altruistic eyes of Nick Garrigan. The director aims to
manipulate the audience to see Amin through fresh eyes as we simultaneously witness Amin s
attempts to position the people of Uganda. In the opening sequence we see the main character,
Nicholas, a newly graduated Scottish doctor, shown as a political outsider oblivious to the ... Show

Starters vs Relievers Essay
Starting Pitchers vs. Relief Pitchers There are many differences and similarities between relief pitchers
and starting pitchers. There are many different types of relief pitchers that each team has in its bullpen.
While starting pitcher each team usually has about 5 starters that rotate through each game, which
leaves the rest of the game up to the relief pitchers once the starter can no longer go. People do not
normally realize that saying a person is a pitcher is quite a general statement. For example starting
pitchers is defined as the pitcher who delivers the first pitch of the game to the first batter. Even if that
pitcher gets hurt on that pitch he is still the starter. Normally starting pitchers are supposed to go the ...

Once a runner reaches the goal switches to a no hitter if they got on an error or walk. If they got on
with a hit the goal is to get a shutout, which is when the opposing team scores no runs. Also if the
starting pitcher goes all the innings in the game whether it is seven or nine they are rewarded with the
complete game. Normally when a pitcher reaches any of their goals they achieve a win. Starting
pitchers normally have at a minimum three effective pitches. They need pitches to get ahead in the
count on the batter and then a strike out pitch. A strike out pitch is a pitch with a lot of break or
movement and is hard for the batter to pick up and normally ends with freezing the batter or a swing
and miss. A relief pitcher or commonly called a reliever is a pitcher that comes in at any time during
the game after the first pitch of the game is thrown. The starter can be removed for multiple reasons
such as; injury, ineffectiveness, fatigue, ejection, or depending on the batter. There are many types of
relief pitchers for example closers, set up pitchers, middle relief, left handed specialist, long relievers
and mop up relief. Many relief pitchers were starters in the primes of their careers but can no longer
endure the stress given with being a starter. This is because as a relief there is more time for rest
between outings and the pitcher doesn t throw as many pitches in one outing.

The Pros And Cons Of The Belize Guatemala Territorial Dispute
Belize Guatemala Territorial Dispute Should we agree on taking the Belize Guatemala territorial
dispute to the ICJ? The international Court of Justice commonly known as the World Court. It is the
central judicial branch of the United Nations, where the Court s role is to resolve legal disputes and to
give consultative opinions on legal questions (International court of Justice). The Belize Guatemala
territorial dispute is an unresolved bi national territorial dispute between both countries, neighbours in
Central America. Guatemala has been claiming Belize territory in whole or in part since 1940. Belize
is an independent country that is rich in resources, and this is why more than ever Guatemala is
claiming Belize s territory; therefore history has been made for many centuries regarding this issue
and if it is agreed in going to the ICJ there would most likely be some advantages and disadvantage,
but still there are Belizeans that agree on going to the ICJ while others opposed from going. This few
Belizeans that agree on going to the ICJ have their own opinions regarding this issue, and they share
their opinions and reasons that makes them think that going to the ICJ would be the best decision that
a Belizean can undertake. Moreover there are others that oppose from going to the ICJ and think ...

What would happen if you didn t drink coffee and changed this routine? How would you react? What would you do instead? What would you realize? Habits have this insurmountable power that can shape every aspect of our lives. From the way we dress, to what we eat, to how we communicate can all reflect back to comfort, personality, and routine with controlling aspects in our lives. We act this way because society believes it is acceptable or we dress this way to remain professional in the workplace. It s possible this thought process could be translated towards culture since this identifiable factors can relate to our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Personally, living in a town with varying levels of SES and social support of same sex couples led me to choose this task. Additionally, choosing this task led me to understand the perceptions of where I lived and to gain a deeper understanding related to further research necessary with this population. There were many reasons as to why I choose this task. It specifically led me to looking at the political perspective related to same sex couples. • 4. Evaluation Of The New Edition Includes Supervision Glickman, Gordon and Ross Gordan (2014) wrote, Like schools, supervision can be conventional, congenial, or collegial. Throughout most of its history supervision has operated from within a conventional paradigm (world view), attempting to control teachers instructional behaviors. Based on what we know about successful schools, the time has come to move from conventional schools (still dominant in the United States) and congenial schools (less prevalent throughout the nation) toward collegial schools (growing in number and success). (p. 7). In order supervision in schools to move towards a collegial style, there has to be a shift of thinking and focus to working with teachers, not teachers working for them. According to Glickman, Gordon and Ross Gordan (2014), the title of the new edition includes SuperVision, a term that denotes teaching and learning should developed collaboratively amongst teachers and supervisors. This term also implies that this same group of individuals should work together to build a democratic community where they make the school vision a reality (p. 8). In order to make this paradigm shift, supervisors have to understand the different types of supervision and understand when they are appropriate to use. The four models include directive control behaviors, directive informational behaviors, collaborative behaviors, and nondirective behaviors. Supervisors using the first type of supervision, direct control behaviors, are assertive and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

September 14, 1993 People Express Airlines: Rise and Decline I guess the single predominant reason that I cared about starting a new company was to try and develop a better way for people to work together . . . that s where the name People Express came from. Most organizations believe that humans are generally bad and you have to control them and watch them and make sure they work. At People Express, people will be trusted to do a job until they prove they definitely won t. Donald C. The airline industry was viewed as a commodity business, but Burr saw a chance to offer a better product to customers. (PE believed that customers, rather than passengers, created a more appropriate mindset.) But taking advantage of deregulation was not the only reason Burr wanted to start the company: greater, perhaps, was his desire to build a better organization one that was both more productive and more fun than what he considered to be typical in American business. He was tired of the politics and the beat them and they ll do more management styles he had seen all his professional life. He was tired of what he called the deadening grind and lack of vision of T.I. s business style. He wanted to design a new kind of airline, one that would provide both better and cheaper service, and be an exciting and rewarding place to work. The focus of the company would be on people: hence its name, People Express. From its inception, therefore, PE was seen as a chance by Burr and his management team to experiment with and demonstrate a better way of managing not just an airline, but any business. While Burr recognized his stance was contrary to the majority of organizations in the United States, he rejected any insinuation that he was optimistic or soft. This will be carried out by examining the current literature surrounding innovation and firm growth and choosing articles from relevant journals which are appropriate to the aim. For many, the term conjures up endless, and I mean endless, images of white, middle class guys with far too much time and money on their hands. These dandies (a man who is devoted to style) flaunt themselves from one high street coffee chain to the next, waiting to run into a street style photographer so they can light up a cigarette and pose pretty seductively. Would I be wrong in saying that? Having said that, street style still manages to be about so much more. There is no doubt that when it is done properly, you could call this an art form in itself. This is something that shows us the complex relationship that is the real world and the world of aesthetics. And if that doesn t convince you then I think you need to take note from a couple of guys who don t get dressed in the morning in the hopes of being snapped at they get their morning coffee fix. Have you ever heard of the term sprezzatura? Do you understand it? No need to worry, just ask Frank Gallucci. But if you cant get him I guess I will do. Sprezzatura is an italian word that originated from The Book of the Courtier . The author, Baldassare Castiglione, defines the term as a certain nonchalance, so as to conceal all art and make whatever one does or says appear to be without effort and almost without any thought about it . So basically, Frank Gallucci. This guy is proof that Italians do it better. This is a guy who has put Pitti Uomo on the street style map good job, sir. This view is motivated by the assumption that the epistemic value of an observation report depends upon its truth or accuracy. However, perception is imposed upon scientific thinkers by their paradigm and theoretical commitments. Developmental ideas are consequently the result of theory and technology ladenness of observations. Theories and technology have a corporate communication, where technological development can generate new organizational theories and previous theories can inspire new technologies or practices. The author does not dismiss the divine cause of a disease. It was believed that the gods and the forces of nature were one in the same. In addition, the other presupposition was that body is related to and affected by the environment. Consequently, the author observes that treatment was sustained by the observation of the external signs . This leads the author to search for the physical mechanism that occurs in the body to create the disease. In his observations, the author concludes that imbalances of the elements in the body (like the environment) cause disease. While physical and rational observations allow the author to properly treat a disease, the author s methods of allopathy are built upon the theoretical presupposition that the gods have indefinite power over the human body. Alternately, the Methodists develop a logical, simplified understanding of medicine base of the teachings of Asclepiades and the Roman medical schools in the Hellenistic era. The Methodists hold that the Art of Medicine consists of such observations; which they define as a sort of way, which they name methodos, and maintain that medicine should examine those characteristics which diseases have in common (Celsus, On Medicine, proem. 56). An oligopoly is a market situation in which relatively few sellers [like Burger King, McDonald s] compete and high start up costs form barriers to keep out new competitors [like Five Guys Burgers and Fries] (Boone and Kurtz, 2012, p. 80). Within this competitive fast food burger industry, the main product being offered is a hamburger. However, one of Five Guys unique features compared to Burger King and McDonald s is to only offer fresh, never frozen, eighty percent lean meat burgers that are made to order. Many of the traditional fast food burger restaurants, only offer frozen patties cooked in advanced, and stored under heated lamp until ordered by the customers. They also offer the customers seventeen free toppings for their burgers. Additionally, they use the same kind of bun for the burgers; as well as the original baker. Subsequently, Five Guys does not sell dehydrated French Fries unlike its competitors. Their potatoes are slowly grown in Northern Idaho, where the weather conditions are quite favorable for growing solid and tasty potatoes. The Black Death is believed to have killed between 30 45% of people in England alone. There were numerous ideas if what the cause of the disease was but in reality, was a bacteria born disease from the bacteria Yersinia pestis, which was carried on the fleas off infected black rats and spread to Europe by Genoese trading ships from Asia. Some historians believed the Black Death marked the beginning of a deep recession within Britain as well as the beginning of the Renaissance, a period of striking artistic expression, whereas other historians seem to take the view point that the Black Death simply amplified an already declining ... Regardless, the decline in population may have simply marked a continuation of what was already happening in Britain as according to Waley demographic growth had come to an end before the Black Death had arrived in Europe and that it merely accentuated an existing trend, due to the severe living conditions at the time as a result of poor sanitation and the Great Famine of 1315 17. Inflation and a shortage of labour supply immediately implemented farmers as would likely have not been able to afford to pay for their land due to a loss of rental income from tenants, causing them to lose their land. Many farmers, according to Rubin sought to move away from labour intensive cultivation to more diverse activities such as mining, pasturing and fisheries, as required less care than crops, indicating a turning point in the ways that farmers sought to earn their money. This is supported by Dyer , who analysed the consumption of foodstuffs of harvest workers in Norfolk, to find an intensification in meat consumption to 15% in 1353 from 9% in 1341 and a decrease in bread consumption from 34% in 1341, to 31% in 1353. Dow had to incorporate the terminal value of each stage of the project. Question 3: The followings are the arguments that support the acquisition of PBB: 1. The whole project will increase Dow shareholder s wealth. As a public company, the first aim of the management team is to increase the shareholder wealth. The project proposed by the management team is definitely consistent with this goal. And bidding on the PBB is the first stage of the whole project. • 16. Stages Of Cellular Respiration In Plants All of the following compounds are required at some stage of cellular respiration in plants, except A. NAD. B. sugar. C. adenosine diphosphate. D. oxygen. E. carbon dioxide. Cellular respiration occurs in both plant and animal cells. Both types of cells are very similar, containing similar organelles such as the mitochondria. The mitochondria is the site of cellular respiration, where glucose and oxygen can be used to produce ATP and carbon dioxide. In plant cells energy is created through the process of photosynthesis, the conversion of energy from the sun into chemical energy. Autotrophs are able to utilize photosynthesis to sustain themselves without consuming food to obtain energy. The site of photosynthesis takes place in the cell s chloroplast (Citovsky, Lecture 20). A large, concentrated portion of chloroplast can be found within the plant s mesophyll, the interior of a leaf. Photosynthesis is broken down into two stages: light reactions and the Calvin cycle. Through light reactions, solar energy can be converted into chemical energy (Campbell, pg. 189). In the Calvin cycle, usable energy in the form of sugars are synthesized from carbon dioxide. Choice A NAD is incorrect. NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme which functions as an intermediate for energy transport during cellular respiration (Citovsky, Lecture 18). First English Parliament During The Industrial Revolution 7) Parliament comes into being (Jan. 20, 1265) After his victory at the Battle of Lewes over Henry III, De Montfort seized power in England. Even though he was in control, De Montfort s grip on the country was threatened. He summoned the barons and the county knights, along with burgesses from major towns to join him January 20th in an attempt to gain more support. This was called De Montfort s Parliament. They discussed reforms and were able to temporarily stabilize de Montfort s political state. Unfortunately, later that year he was killed at the Battle of Evesham, but his idea of parliament did not die out. Under reign of Edward I, the idea of inviting both knights and the burgesses to parliament become more popular. By the 14th century, this became normal and it became known as the House of Commons. To put it simply, an abortion is defined as, the intentional termination of a pregnancy most often preformed before the third trimester (within weeks 1 28). The controversy over abortions usually stems from the difficulty between individuals to agree on a set of conditions that would constitute ones decision, to abort as just. This issue is examined by many philosophers, particularly, Judith Thomson and Don Marquis. Both philosopher s views loosely encompass the complex underlying beliefs of those who stand behind the pro life and pro choice arguments. Tomson and Marquis demonstrate the very distinctively different perspectives one could take on the issue. Don Marquis suggests that fetuses, being persons, possess the right to a future like ours and that it would be wrong to intentionally impede on the life that I would have lived if I had lived out my natural lifespan except for in rare circumstances . While, Tomson asserts that not all abortions are morally wrong, nor do they violate the victim s right to life , and by having one that is in no way indicative that a fetus s rights have been violated. Despite the fact that both philosophers present valid positions, and outline their key differences, Tomson goes far beyond Marquis efforts by illustrating that the way in which we view abortions ought to be redefined in order for one to maintain a clear perspective. Within this framework, behaviorists are particularly interested in measurable changes in behavior. Gestalt views of learning have been incorporated into what have come to be labeled cognitive theories. Two key assumptions underlie this cognitive approach: (1) that the memory system is an active organized processor of information and (2) that prior knowledge plays an important role in learning. According to the Constitution, to be a member of the Senate a candidate must be at least thirty years of age, be a citizen of the United States for nine years, and must live in the state at the time elected. To be a member of the House of Representatives, a candidate must be at least twenty five years of age, must be a citizen of the United States for seven years, and must live in the state at the time elected. These different requirements support that the Senate is the upper house because the requirements needed to be in the Senate are stricter than those of the House. The structures also differ greatly. There are 435 members of the House and only 100 members of the Senate. Because of this, each individual member s vote in the Senate is worth more than each member of the House. Also a Senator s term lasts longer than a Representative s term; a Senator s term is six years and a Representative s is two. Because of this, Senators have more time to make and change legislation. Also if a House member makes changes that voters don t like, they can be replaced in under two years. In the Senate, however, if negative changes are made, there isn t anything voters can do for years and they can continue to make changes that are disagreeable to voters. The two chambers also have different responsibilities and powers that show that the Senate is the upper house. The House has the power to impeach government officials. They act as a prosecutor . • 34. Musical Theatre School Admission Essay Sample Musical theatre first sparked my interest in the summer between my fourth and fifth grade year, when I decided to participate in a local theater camp. Immediately, I knew that this world of lime lights and drama was where my dreams and passions would come to fruition. Ever since, I have dedicated myself to creating a life and a career in musical theatre. My academics have always been my top priority, musical theatre coming next. I have been both home schooled and enrolled in public school. I feel very lucky to have experienced both schooling options. Homeschool shaped me to be a motivated learner because I had to make the decision to get up and work through all my homework and lessons through the day. Public schools allowed me to better my social skills, working with other people, become a leader, and knowing when to follow. Although some may look at my academic career and think that it would be hard to go to multiple schools, I think it was very important to my development when I was growing up. I moved from Texas to Colorado when I was thirteen and eighth grade through sophomore year I was enrolled in four different schools. You soon find yourself pushed and shoved to the back of the room, the farthest distance away from the stage as possible, along with hundreds of other good girlfriends as personified coat hangers. What the media fails to accurately portray is that feminists strive to promote equality for both women and men. Utilizing feminism as their secret weapon to add diversity to the overly male punk scene, the riot grrrls managed to successfully promote women s rights with politically charged tunes that empowered women to make a change. However, despite of its fabricated intentions, the media proposed a valid argument against the movement: why the movement did not last over the years. One often overlooked aspect of Riot grrrl was that although it claimed to revive the feminist appeal by standing up for ALL women, the majority of its efforts seemed to appeal more in favor of middle class Caucasian women. Members with a variety of ethnic backgrounds who identified themselves as riot grrrls felt that that their adversities and struggles as both minorities and women were not equally put into perspective as much as those of their counterparts. This flaw within the movement has negatively affected its social longevity and overall appeal to a wider range of women, yet the dedication to spread awareness on intimate struggles and successful establishment of a community within the movement have proven to still be both effective as well as inspiring in today s modern society. As well as the questions which are raised about the size of the sample that was used, it is also necessary to point out the lack of detail present concerning how the sample was chosen. Andrew s reflective experiences several years after they occurred surely cannot be as valid as for example, a sample of children displaying twice exceptional abilities within schools at the time of commencing the research. Perhaps Morrison and Omdal had valid reasons for choosing Andrew as their lone participant, but this detail is missing from their study. There is no evidence either to suggest whether Andrew was de briefed about the nature of this study, which could prove significant with regard to his responses to the interview questions, especially as he talks with such fervour about his experiences. Since they only had one participant for this research, an interview was an appropriate method to gain access to Andrew s experiences in school and in the community. At first, I didn t want anything to do with it because being valedictorian meant giving a huge speech in front of the principal, assistant principals, fellow fifth graders, family, and siblings in the school. I had never spoken or given a speech in front of a small class before, let alone a huge crowd! Religious Beliefs In Hinduism Hinduism has arguably the most convoluted history of all major religions in the world; like every other religion, it surely has been sculpted by a plethora of cultural pressures. But unlike any other major religion, Hinduism comprises of innumerable gods, an untold amount of scriptures, and countless rituals. Even within the Hindu triumvirate, which consists of three gods, Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, who are responsible for the creation, upkeep and destruction of the world, people hold different beliefs about what exactly they signify. As one might imagine, there is an immense spectrum of artistic depictions of these gods. Yet the icon emblematic to not only Hinduism but to India itself is the god with many limbs, adorned with and framed by extravagant jewels and allegorical figures. Artisans meticulously craft their work when depicting these gods, premediating every detail and their symbolic implications. Even so, interpretations on these pieces may vary greatly depending on the beliefs of the person being asked. Of the three deities composing the Hindu triumvirate, Shiva is the most paradoxical: he is both the destroyer and the restorer, the great ascetic and the symbol of sensuality, the benevolent herdsman of souls and the wrathful avenger. (*) According to Hindu belief, Shiva s destructive power is not arbitrary, but constructive; he destroys the delusions and fallibilities of man to make way for beneficial change. Students are formed by all they do, read, perceive, and interpret. This includes their taken for granted assumptions and expectations. Formation occurs in the gaps as one values the questions (Benner et al., 2010) and attending during these gaps can break the habit of hearing only what we already understand (Heidegger , 1971, p. 54). Palmer (2009) described a tragic gap, the space between hard realities and what one knows to be possible. Transformational: Core Strength Spirituality The transformational development from learner to leader is a spiritual journey. It is a renewing of the mind. It is an awakening to and acceptance of multiple ways of knowing Truth. It is a transformational process of becoming which is a singularly powerful lived experience. More importantly, this spiritual journey is a deconstruction and reconstruction of self; it is a movement from individualistic academic pursuit toward scholarship embodied. The process and processes by which learners develop into leaders are critically important to advancing the global health and education priorities of the 21st century. • 41. Photojournalism is Subjective NOT Objective Essay Photojournalism has long been considered to have a tradition of reflecting the truth. It has been a major element in newspaper and magazine reporting since the early 20th century. It was probably only about a century ago when people believed that what they saw in photographs was factual. This impact of visual image as seen by the viewer was based on the old belief that the camera never lies . Wheeler says that photojournalism has acquired a special standing in the public mind, a confidence that photo can reflect reality in a uniquely compelling and credible way. (Wheeler T, 2002, p. 3) This acquisition is formed by a creation of a powerful picture, which is the combination of both truthfulness and visual impact. In general, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Photos are just recorded information and how it is presented is actually based on individual interpretation by the photographers themselves. It is not absolute reality because the viewers themselves are not there to witness the event; therefore it is not entirely factual. The meaning of a photo illustration is also dependent on viewers individual views and assumption. As the old metaphor says, is the glass of milk half full or half empty? Gatekeepers such as publishers and the government play a role in photo manipulation. As Newton (Newton J, 2001, pg. 74) suggests that those who tend the gates of reportage tend power . These people are the ones who decide what the public ‘needs to know , what is ‘appropriate , what is ‘news and also what the public needs to ‘see . Gatekeepers as such must answer questions like: Will publishing a picture of the body of a drowning victim prevent others from drowning at the same spot, or will it only exploit a tragic situation to sell newspapers? (Newton J, 2001) Another significant reason that has played a vital role in photojournalism of recent times is the emergence of imaging technologies. Imaging technologies has undoubtedly played a major part in the works of a photojournalist today. Based on earlier accounts on how photography itself is an inherent manipulation, the question is no longer directed on ‘how has imaging technologies manipulate photojournalism but ‘how much more has imaging ... The design of an adsorption column through experimental method provides a direct determination of the salient parameters based on the breakthrough curve. A linear regression was applied to equation 4 and the values of No and ka were computed from the slope and intercept of the BDST plot between ln(Co/Ct 1) versus t at different adsorption parameters such as flow rate, bed height and influent adsorbate concentration. These BDST parameters were used to predict the maximum metal uptake capacity (qcal) under different process conditions and were compared with the experimental values (qexp) in relation to the estimated values of ka and No. As shown in Table 1a and b, the values ka decreased with increasing bed depth and influent metal concentration, but increase with increasing flow rates. Meanwhile, the values of No declined with the increase in bed height and flow rate. This trend can be explained on the fact that at increased bed heights more number of active sites is available for sorption to give higher total metal uptake but reduced per unit removal, whereas at increased flow rate the volume of adsorbate that entered the column was higher and caused the bed to saturate early. As with increased metal concentration, the No values were found to be increasing due to higher loading of metal on the adsorbent achieved in a short period of contact. This discussion shows that the overall kinetics of adsorption process is governed by external mass transfer.
