The World s Biggest Terrorist Group
In two years Isis has been the cause for over 170,000 people s death, making it today the world s
biggest terrorist group. Isis was first created in Iraq and is now slowly growing too many other
countries in the world. This group is now one the biggest problems that the world faces today. Isis
stands for Islamic state in Iraq and Syria. Members of Isis were first a part of al Qaeda, then in 2013
became its own group. This paper will answer: How was Isis formed, and why is it the way it is
today? Under its former name Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (Isis), it was formed in April 2013,
growing out of al Qaeda in Iraq (AQI). The organization is led by Abu Bakr al Baghdadi. Little is
known about him, but it is believed he was born in Samarra, north of Baghdad, in 1971 and joined the
insurgency that erupted in Iraq soon after the 2003 US led invasion. In 2010 he emerged as the leader
of al Qaeda in Iraq, one of the groups that later became Isis. Baghdadi is regarded as a battlefield
commander and tactician, which analysts say makes his group more attractive to young jihadists than
al Qaeda, which is led by Ayman al Zawahiri, an Islamic theologian. IS claims to have fighters from
the UK, France, Germany and other European countries, as well as the US, the Arab world and the
Caucasus (The Islamic State militant group). This quote explains how Isis was formed and how it was
first organized. One of its main leaders includes a man named Abu Bakr al Baghdadi. He also tries

Administrative Assistant Job Analysis
My key objective within a year after graduation from California State University, Long Beach is to
ascend into a supervisor position after gaining now four years of experience within an administrative
assistant role. In three to five years I see myself as a supervisor within our Neuroscience Department
is gaining experience on how to manage daily functions, absorb knowledge from upper level
executives, and become involved within my local ACHE chapter in Orange County. If I were to create
a projection of where I see myself in the time frame of just under ten years, I would hypothesize that I
would at have made my way into an executive administrator role either within my department or if
opportunity arouse outside my department or hospital. I d have several various departments that I d be

Meaning Of Good And Evil
For the word, evil, there are many different ways in which you could define it. Evil seems to come
across to people as killing and torture, and that is right but there is much more to evil than just those
two. Ordinary people do not see a random person walking on the street to be evil, but they could be
evil or really just a person walking down the street. Thinking of humans in a more psychological way
we tend to only see the bad in someone, and not the good they might have. Throughout history, we do
not really see a change in how people view the word evil. To some they may cringe and others it might
light up their eyes. Although we all can perceive evil differently one thing is for sure, and that is the
word good. Everyone sees good as a positive outlook on whatever is around it. People tend to look at
good as if we all should have within us somewhere. These two words have completely different
meanings and different outlook. Good and Evil also means that we are able to give a better
understanding of each because of their differences. Evil tends to have a more lasting impression on
you, and not necessarily a good one but one remember what happens more if it is negative.
According to Gray and Wegner (2009), they intended to look at the more typecasting, which is the
relationship within moral agency and moral patiency (Gray Wegner, 2009). Grey and Wegner (2009),

Smartphone Addiction Essay
Over the past years, improper smartphone usage has been a widespread concernedly problem among
teens and college students. According to Hawi and Samaha (2016), Smartphones are becoming an
integral part of the lives of all age worldwide. People feel inseparable from their smartphones (p. 321).
Problematic smartphone use are considered as an important indicators that someone is on the path to
smartphone addiction (Cevik, Gokcearslan, Haslaman, Mumcu, 2016, p. 640). As the emergence of
smartphone addiction, a great deal of negative effects come along as well. Researchers have worked to
figure out the causal factors of smartphone addiction from both academic and psychological field. In
the meantime, social media becomes a controversial topic among researchers since students spend
most of their smartphone time on social media application. The question that whether social media is
beneficial for students life is highly debated. Students now have many ways to communication
because of the rapid growth of communication technology. Cell phones and smartphones are used for
both sending text messages and talking, while online communication methods such as email, chat and
social networking provide additional methods to keep in touch (Robinson Stubberub, 2012, p. 105).
Cell phone, as a powerful tool, provides college students huge convenience to communication.

The Pros And Cons Of Progressive Tax
The reason why progressive taxation is considered fairer and why flat taxation policy is avoided is
because the people with lower income have lower ability to pay and the major part of their income is
spent on necessities, a flat taxation policy would burden them more. Both the taxation policy have
their pros and cons. A progressive tax shifts the burden on the people with higher income, it reduces
the amount that the people with lower income pay. Because it reduces the burden of tax it results in
reduction for the need of subsidies. Meanwhile a flat taxation system reduces the tax burden on people
with high income and gives them an opportunity to further increase their investment. Several reasons
can be given to justify progressive taxation policy over flat taxation policy. One reason is that those
who earn more can afford to pay more, without having to curtail their standard of living or in any way
reducing their chances of prospering Also another important justification is that the small businesses
find it difficult and struggle more compared to the big ones and hence burdening them with large
amount of tax will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

US tax policy in the post World War II era has increased income inequality by enabling the wealthy

research showing a negative relationship between the progressivity of taxes and economic growth.[15]
Describing the research, William McBride, a staff writer with the Tax Foundation, stated that
progressivity can undermine investment, risk taking, entrepreneurship, and productivity because high
income earners tend to do much of the saving, investing, risk taking, and high productivity

Nonverbal Communication In The Movie Erin Brockovich
Nonverbal communication covers all aspects of communication beyond words. It is anything from
body gestures to the way words are spoken. The tone, demeanor, hidden meaning behind words, mix
that with body language and what is creates in nonverbal communication elements. Even clothes and
personal appearance can send a nonverbal message. Nonverbal communication accounts for nearly 65
93% communication means (Wood, 2014). One area where nonverbal communication sent a negative,
incorrect message is the movie Erin Brockovich. The clothing of the main character sent the message
that she was uneducated, white trash. This could not be further from the truth. She was an intelligent,
single mother who saw a problem where nobody else did.
Clothing can send a nonverbal message. A person dresses differently when going to an adventure park
than for an evening out on the town. What nonverbal rule did I break? I wore less than appropriate
attire to a funeral showing. One of my cancer patients lost her battle with her disease. I learned of the
viewing the day it was taking place. Due to the time and location of the viewing I went directly from
work to the funeral home. The short notice did not allow for me to bring a change of clothes or go
home prior.
How did I break the rule? The rule was broken by wearing the inappropriate attire. Even though
viewings are expected to be slightly less formal than the actual funeral there is still a level of
expectation of others. The expectation of someone being dressed in business casual. I would not
expect to see someone in their jeans and a t shirt or shorts at a viewing. I was still in my work clothing
which appropriate for the job task, no appropriate for the moment. Myself and my nurses wore our
scrubs to the viewing because we all had similar situations that would not allow for attire change.
What were the reaction of others? The deceased sisters did not seem bothered by our wear. They were
aware that we might not have time to go home and change our clothes at the end of our day. Due to
their high involvement in the care of their sister, they had grown quite found on myself and the other
staff. They were just overjoyed that all of us could attend and pay

Sin Un Pasado, No Hay Futuro Poem
Artist Joe Stephenson created Sin Un Pasado, No Hay Futuro mural located on 2nd Street and Gold,
Downtown Albuquerque, in August of 1994 to convey the lesson we are forever frozen in time without
the knowledge of our past. Together we can achieve greatness in our future with the guidance of the
past. It s a sad thing when a culture, or tradition is forgotten and lost in time. This mural is showing us
how important it is to preserve New Mexican history, culture, and traditions for generations to come
and the negative impact it can lead to if we fail to do so. Stephenson, Joe. Sin Un Pasado, No Hay
Futuro. 1994, Downtown, Albuquerque
The colors in this mural reflect many different emotions. They may be Stephenson s feelings towards
the subject or our own. Beige neutral colors deliver a calm and relaxing feel. The red on the trains and
the rooftop, give out an energetic, powerful impression. The vibrant color of turquoise symbolizes
friendship and peace. The orange and yellow sunrise give out warmth and joy that spreads into a pink
hue of harmony, symbolizing a bright new day, and a bright new future. All these colors Stephenson
used represent simpler times of the southwest before the chaotic takeover of the Atchison, Topeka, and
Santa Fe Railway also known as AT SF.
According to Kansas Historical Society, the AT SF Railway chartered in February of 1859. At its
largest, the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway would own well over 13,000 miles, and the routes
which made up its system would become some of the most heavily and strategically used throughout
the West that remains so to this day ( New Mexico Museum of Art).
The Prensa de Albuquerque newspaper headline portion of the mural is dated Feb 1970 stating
MORONIC OFFICIALS DESTROY HISTORIC LANDMARKS... Old Albuquerque High School
Next on Hit List! bring out strong feelings of outrage, and resentment along with the advertisement
The Best in The West selling land through Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe. The ad is trying to lure non
native potential buyers traveling on the AT SF Railway. Stephenson is trying to give us a history
lesson, the text With No Past; We Have No Future! telling us that we need to preserve our New
Mexico history and culture.

The Cultural Differences Of Irish Identity And Individual...
Many countries and people from different parts of the world established individual identities
throughout the course of the twentieth century which greatly impacted globalization. Identity relates to
self image and is crucial for the development of culture. A person s identity is defined as the totality of
one s self construal, in which how one construes oneself in the present expresses the continuity
between how one construes oneself as one was in the past and how one construes oneself as one
aspires to be in the future, (Weinreich, 1986). The way that people view themselves in the past,
present and future can alter the course of history for generations and dictates international relations for
years to come. Globalization, or the way that people interact with one another whether through ideas,
culture, money or socially is dependent upon preserving individualism which has not proven to be the
easiest task to master. The cultural differences related to the Irish living on the British Isles, the
Basque population in Spain, Serbs under Ottoman rule, as well as Moroccans under French control
can still be felt in many ways today and have impacted people and nations around the globe.
Analysis
The Irish have a longstanding history of struggle when it comes to establishing identity and
independence. As we witnessed with Irish immigrants coming to the United States in the 1800s,
difficulties were experienced in the British Isles which created a sense of tension and brought about

The Social Differences Between Oral And Oral History
Oral accounts are crucial to understanding historical events which may have not been recorded
through text. The whole process in oral history is important to create the bigger image of the story and
provide the meaning. The act of listening is just as complex as interpreting the story, both aspects give
history a better understanding. The uniqueness of oral history can t compare to written history due to
the compassion and emotions that are evoked while talking. There are social implications of oral
history that come in various forms which effect the process. Although it is a complex process, it
enhances historical practices for many reasons.
The comparison between oral and written history has many discrepancies that impact the
understanding of history in a great way. Oral history has the ability to evoke many emotions due to
being able to see the body language of the speaker. Gestures create emphasis on various words which
may have a significant meaning to the speaker. These gestures would not be seen through text thus it
allows readers to experience the story through emotions as well as facts. The intensity of words also
creates emphasis which is only available through speech. Francis Good uses an analogy to express the
difference between text and oral accounts. Good states manuals and handbooks invariably provide
advice on the issues, problems and strategies involved, but practice and comment show considerable
divergence at times (Good, 362) which alludes to the conclusion that textual accounts can leave out
some information. These aspects contribute to how the audience perceives the information given,
importance will be given to items which can t be expressed through text. Oral history serves a social
purpose in today s society. Oral accounts give the public a better understanding about social, political
and economic issues which may not be written about.
Oral history changes the precedent of how history is interpreted. It enhances the historical practices by
emphasizing important aspects and revealing stories which may not have been heard otherwise. Oral
history and interviews are particularly beneficial for minorities, including women and the illiterate, to
express their stories. In Telling

The Perfect Body Image
The word ideal is a frequently used term to describe the sense of perfection.
Actors, models, and celebrities who are seen in magazines, television, and/or social media
demonstrate the physical characteristics of the widely desired ideal image; which includes of being a
female who is tall, slender, and blemish free or a male who is tall, masculine, and smooth skinned.
Because the media constantly presents models and actresses with an unachievable body image it
influences both feminine and masculine genders in believing what is considered to be the perfect ideal
image in today s society. Unfortunately, it is within the human nature to strive for perfection and

Many people have unwilling fallen as victims of this perfect body image that are commonly shown in
magazines and advertisements influencing them to discipline their bodies so they could achieve this

are unaware that there are digital effects in play, such as Photoshop. There are more than one third of
women who want to have the appearance of a female model; unfortunately, there are also as much
men who want to appear like the muscular male models that are presented in the mass media. Since
there is such pressure in having a good body women and men can experience societal pressure and
guilt about their self body image. Since having the perfect ideal image is the biggest concern in today
s society, many people are constantly reminded as to what is considered as being normal and

Police Officer Probation Officer
How does the ability to conduct legal searches differ between the police officer, probation officer, and
corrections officer in the performance of their duties? There are vast and simiular reasons that all of
these officers have to conduct legal searches.
For police officers as we learned in several chapters, there are issues that come with their abilities to
conduct legal searches, for example a police officer cannot just approach someone on their front porch
and demand to enter their home to search for illegal substances or arms etc. However, if one was
driving by your home and seen you in your garage with what appeared to be a meth lab or marijuana
grow operation then they can stop to search as it would be a duty of theirs to protect the community. A

How Jesus Life Affected Our Lives
When we look back on Jesus life, we can see how his life affected ours. Jesus was the Messiah. He
was sent by God to do great things. Not only did he save people, but also he sacrificed himself to for
everyone s sins. I have learned many things about Jesus in Christian Worldview and even more when
reading about his life and biblical principles. We can learn how Jesus was important through
Messianic Prophecies, Jesus Teachings, and His Miracles. We can learn how Jesus was important
through Messianic Prophecies. A prophecy that stands out comes from Isaiah 9. It says that, The
people who walk in darkness will see a great light. It also says that, For a child is born to us, a son is
given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor,
Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah prophesied that Jesus, the child born would
become their deliverer, the Messiah. In a time of great darkness, God promised to send a light to shine
on everyone living a life full of sin. It turns out that this message came to be true, with the birth of
Christ, he came to deliver. Another prophecy that is important is the one in Isaiah 53 that talks about
Jesus sacrifice for us. In verses 1 3, it talks about how Jesus was treated like an ordinary man. He had
no outward beauty or majesty, and he was despised and rejected. Then, in verse 7, it says that he was
led like a lamb to the slaughter. In the Old Testament, people often gave

Causes Of Csare Lombroso
Nowadays it is common to hear expressions like beware of that man, he has the face of a thief ; These
young people are suspicious, their appearance is deplorable, or because of that scar he has, I would
say he is a criminal. It is also often observed that certain types of people are still rejected, isolated or
labeled by society, due to their physical characteristics, because they have congenital malformations,
or they have been acquired during the course of their existence. It is not good to judge by appearances,
but there are people who at first sight seem dangerous to us. In the nineteenth century, the scientist
Cesare Lombroso developed a theory that defines potential criminals by some of their physical
features.
Cesare Lombroso, a criminologist and Italian physicians, he was one of the forerunners of modern
criminology in that he may be born predisposed to be a criminal for biological causes. His legacy is
still present, although his studies and publications caused and continue to cause considerable
controversy. This Italian, who during his career published twenty five books that combine biological
science with criminology, was one of the most important exponents of criminological positivism. It is
a current that, instead of exposing sanctions for a certain act, is done for a delinquent studying its
characteristics, crime and manner of committing it in order to then seek a legal punishment that
adjusts to each case. Lombroso believed that human evolution and the

Surowiecki s Social Comparison Theory
To effectively achieve the goals of political activities, everyone in the group should avoid social
comparison and keep his or her original ideas. Social comparison results in people trying to stay in
tune with the group. Surowiecki announces that It means that people are constantly comparing
themselves to everyone else with an eye toward maintaining their relative position within the group
(Surowiecki 479) Since all the people depend on each other for existence, it is inevitable to comparing
themselves to others and caring about what others think of them. People with unique ideas which are
against most of the group members beliefs, are more likely to be regarded as aliens and excluded from
the group. To maintain their relative position within the group and to gain acceptance from other

Surowiecki s social comparison theory can be applied to the explanation of the phenomenon that
Gladwell mentions. Gladwell writes, And the primary determinant of who showed up was critical
friends the more friends you had who were critical of the regime the more likely you were to join the
protest (Gladwell 234). A person who is an advocate of the government tends to alter his or her idea if
most of his or her friends are critical of the regime. And the more friends he or she have who are
against the authorities, the more likely he or she modifies original ideas and pretend to think just like
others in order to maintain his or her relative position in groups. Thus, the number of critical friends
determines the the possibility of joining the protest. Gladwell states a fact that critical friends affects
the process of making a political decision. On the other hand, Surowiecki reveals the phenomenon and
use the social comparison theory to it. There is no denying that people within a group have a tendency
to adapt their original ideas for the purpose of group

Communism s Effect on Technology
World War II began because of an invasion from Nazi Germany to Poland causing Britain to declare
war on Germany. During the fall of World War II and the beginning of the Cold War, space
exploration was at the top of America s to do list. America was not the only country interested in
gaining answers about the solar system and its planets. There were many times during the Cold War
where the Soviet Union would have dramatic increases in science and technology. The Union of
Soviet Socialist Republics also known and the Soviet Union or USSR was a nation located in Eastern
Europe and Northwestern Asia and its capital was Moscow. The competition between the United
States and the USSR to see who could explore space by using artificial satellites and manned
spacecraft began after the launch of the first Soviet satellite. Even though the society of America
wanted to pursue the competition, President Eisenhower, however, did not want increase tensions.
World War II begun in 1939 and ended in 1945 and was between two groups of countries, Axis

Imperialism of India by Britain Essay
Imperialism is the domination of one country of the political, economic, or cultural life of another
country. Imperialism is more often than not fueled by two major schools of thought known as
nationalism and Social Darwinism. Nationalism is a feeling of pride and devotion to one s country.
This can drive a person to think that their country is the most powerful, and in essence drives that
person mad with power and a hunger to conquer, which not ironically is exactly what many countries
did. Social Darwinism is the very idea that a more powerful country conquer the smaller countries.

Then there s the negative which may take away a colony s individuality and spark rebellion. Britain s
a great example because we see an economic growth and a modernization of India, but we also see the
rights of the people slowly fading into the shadows. Britain took over India after a brief struggle with
France; initially to aid in its economy; mainly its textiles. The plan was to have Indians harvest raw
materials to ship back to Britain. Britain would therefore have cheap raw materials sent back to them;
because India was mercantilist (could only trade with the mother country) they did not have much of a
choice but to sell to Britain cheaply. Britain therefore always had a steady source of raw materials
Britain would turn raw materials into finished products that it would ship back to India and sell to
Indians. Prices for goods were low and Indians liked that, but also Britain had a steady source of
income. The most useful Indian industry for Britain was its cotton industry; Britain often used Indian
cotton for clothing. India made for a cheap way to assemble (cheap labor) and an easy way to get
business. For Britain, there was barely a negative side to imperializing in India. British citizen did not
change the way they went about their day at all. Prices of goods dropped which, of course made life
easy, but nobody lost sleep over the colonization. Britain s

Carolina Panthers Hall Of Fame
It was a mild day outside in Charlotte, North Carolina. Yes, this is football weather. Weather for the
Carolina Panthers, coming off a solid 12 4 regular season. Little did they know, however, that it would
be Steve Smith s final game in Carolina. Steve Smith was the greatest wide receiver to ever play for
the Carolina Panthers. He is predicted to even enter the Hall of Fame, but not before being a draft steal
in the 3rd round and having a stellar rookie season. Many NFL greats can see Steve Smith being
inducted into the Hall of Fame in the near future. 1Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin praises
Steve Smith. Michael Irvin said, There s no doubt I see him there (the Hall of Fame), he s an
incredible player. There s no doubt that one

Analysis Of The Poem The Womb By Apirana Taylor
An important message that is conveyed in the poem The Womb by Apirana Taylor is The Impact of
Colonisation on the Land This message is emphasised throughout the poem by using effective
language features such as narrative point of view, imagery and contrast. A persona is used throughout
the poem to talk directly to the reader and make them feel responsible. Imagery creates a powerful
picture in the reader s mind making them realise the impact on the land. Finally, there is an admirable
sense of contrast in this poem going from anger to vengeance.
One of the most noticeable language features used in this poem is narrative point of view. It s written
in second person, so Papatuanuku (god of the land) explains her perspective on NZ colonisation ...

The first half has an angry tone to begin with towards the colonisers for what has been done to the
land. This changes to being vengeful and threatening to all of mankind with real world warnings.
Papatuanuku angrily explains our actions and will strike back in ways we don t expect that is deadly to
all humans. For instance, the land says Ruamoko the unborn god rumbles within me and the fires of
Ruapehu still lives Ruamoko is god of the volcanos and Mount Ruapehu is an active volcano in New
Zealand which last had a major eruption twenty years ago. Papatuanuku is threatening us and
foreshadows the future that one day, Ruapehu will erupt. The author s purpose of writing about threats
to humanity is to remind us of the horrible actions we have committed to our environment. There are
numerous instances nationally and internationally where the land has taken its revenge by killing
millions of humans, animals and infrastructure. One of the world s deadliest earthquakes and tsunamis
were in Ache, Indonesia (2004) with a magnitude of 9.1, killing 280,000 people. This earthquake is
the perfect example of the land taking revenge. Its intention was to cause death and destruction and
certainly did in just fifteen minutes. It was the way the land shows it s anger and

When Is Human Cloning Wrong
In February 1997, the scientific world was forever changed by the announcement of the birth of Dolly
the Sheep, the first mammal cloned from an adult cell (Jones 160). For the first time in medical
history, science allowed for the possibility of human cloning. With this development came the concern
that scientists would not only speculate about human cloning, but actually seek to attempt it. Such a
prospect generates ethical unease from both the public and Christian community. From a Christian
perspective, human cloning creates concerns for the well being of a cloned child or embryo and usurps
God s plan for human dominion. Human cloning would not be compatible with Christian ethics. In
this essay, any reference to the word clone may be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therapeutic cloning holds the potential to treat illnesses like heart and kidney disease, but the methods
require that human embryos be destroyed for the benefit of others (Hansen Schotsman 76). The Bible
directly states that killing is a sin (NIV Bible, Exodus 20:13). Although some may argue that using an
embryo for medicine is not murder, therapeutic cloning create embryos (the very first stage of
humanness) for the sole purpose of harvesting the stem cells, thus ending the budding life of said
embryo. This process certainly reflects a form of killing, even if it is only the destruction of an
incredibly early human form. Additionally, taking advantage of human embryos disobeys Jesus
command to love one another (NIV Bible, John 13:34). Jones states that therapeutic cloning
[undermines] the welfare and dignity of human embryos, which as the weakest and most vulnerable of
human beings should under no circumstances be experimented upon (174). No situation could justify
the exploitation of human embryos for the medicinal benefits of therapeutic

Descriptive Essay About Beatles
The Band that Paved the Way
If I had to think of one word to describe the Beatles, it would have to be iconic. Their style and
innovation is something that has really stood the test of time and remains unsurpassed. They were
ahead of their time, they were experimental, and their music is timeless. The Fab four s music speaks
to all generations. The variety in which is displayed throughout their albums is what I admire most
about the Beatles. Each record has its own unique sound; there really is a song for everyone. It is
impossible to talk about the progression of music without mentioning the Beatles. They sit atop The
Rolling Stone s 100 Greatest Artist of All Time list, and for good reason. I am excited to express my
views on some of my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my opinion, the stars represent all the successes and happiness that love can bring a couple.
However, many relationships go through a lot of struggles that can be seen by the darkness of the sky.
The lyrics are also straightforward and easy to follow. They leave the listener to think about what they
believe is the true meaning of love. Hearing this song will forever remind me of my parents love for
each other and that is something that is special to me.
The way the Beatles wrote their music was interesting. The song itself is in F# minor until the acoustic
guitar solo in the middle of the song by Harrison, which is when it switches over to G minor (The
Beatles Bible). I believe that the solo portion of the song is the best part. This portion of the song is
more like a transitional period, as George Harrison does a good job of using relaxing tones. Harrison
also plays the claves in the background of the song that serve as something similar to a metronome to
keep the rhythm constant in the song. Due to the song s simplicity and beauty, it is no surprise that the
tempo is slower. If the song were any faster, the message would be more difficult to portray.. It shows
that love and happiness does not come very easy and you must be patient until you are destined with
true love. The Beatles did an excellent job of showing the beauty of love in what I believe to be an
effortless way.
The next song I chose is one that I couldn t resist

Argumentative Speech On Selfishness
Introduction A. Attention grabber: What if I told you kindness is our social connection to other human
beings? (rhetorical) B. Topic reveal: And when we are socially connected to others, we are happier,
healthier, and live longer lives. C. Credibility establishment: In an article entitled Happiness for a
lifetime published in the 2010 issue of the Greater Good Magazine, psychologist Sonja Lyubomirsky
discusses a key insight from her research conducted with colleagues Ken Sheldon and Dave Schkade.
1. 50% of happiness is in our genes (a relatively small %), 40% in behavior and daily activities, and
10% on lifestyle. 2. In one of the studies, they asked one group of students to do all five of their acts
of kindness in one single day (they felt one single day and a small act would be more powerful), did
succeed in making them happier, when the acts were small and conducted that day, it was more
powerful to be more concentrated Why might kindness have these kinds of effects on our happiness? I
believe that when you are kind and generous to others, you start to see yourself as a generous person,
so it s good for your self perception. Plus, it helps you see yourself as interconnected to others, it
makes you interpret other people s behavior more charitably, and it relieves distress over other people
s misfortune all things that are good for happiness. D. Thesis Statement: (Main point preview):
Random acts of kindness, will positively impact someone s life, will keep you

Neutral Tones Thomas Hardy Analysis
In the poem, Neutral Tones ,by Thomas Hardy, the readers will inquire information from the author
through use of imagery. In the first three stanzas Hardy reminisces about a memory he has with a past
loved one. During the last stanza, Hardy reflects how the relationship shaped him. The speaker is
aggravated mentally by the disappointment of love, believing that things were once beautiful. He is
devastated and frustrated when love perishes and feels deceived by the sweet promises love had to
offer.
In the first stanza, Hardy compares his dying relationship to his surroundings. He sets the tone during
this stanza as melancholy and gloomy. The water in the pond represents Hardy s relationship and how
it is not progressing in line 1, We stood by a pond that winter day .... A pond is a small body of water
that rarely has movement just like Hardy s relationship. The sun is described as white in line 2 and is
seemingly deprived from the power to warm and nurture. This intensifies the tone of sadness and
hopelessness. During the third line of the first stanza the leaves that lay on the ... Show more content

The first line of the third stanza describing her smile contains a disheartening meaning. Usually, a
facial gesture would be associated with happiness and joy; whereas in Neutral Tones the smile is
described as the deadest thing . The cold causality of the gesture serves as reminder to the bitterness of
the poem. This metaphor continues, with the phrase: alive enough to have the strength to die (l.10).
This phrase further enhances the emotional uproar experienced by Hardy, presenting a horrifying
image of something that just has enough energy to die. Based from this line, the speaker had already
known that his lover would deceive him in love; just as her smile that defeats the purpose of joy and
happiness. Hardy gives his readers a sense that he knew the relationship was going to be deceased or
was in the process of

Motivations In Edgar Allan Poe s The Cask Of Amontillado
Motivations are an important aspect of human lives as they determine why we commit certain actions.
In fact, motivations are so essential to the human psyche that they can determine the success of those
actions. Edgar Allan Poe, the author of The Cask of Amontillado, understood that motivations were
important and wrote the short story such that the main character s, Montresor s, motivations were a
plot device that develops the story revolving around the success of Montresor s nefarious plans. In Poe
s The Cask of Amontillado, the analysis of the Montresor Family coat of arms indicates the deeper
meaning of blindness from passionate vengeance that Poe derives from the ironic double in the
emblem.
In the short story, Montresor, the villain, commits the murder of Fortunato, the victim, through an
elaborate plan that ensures that Montresor will not be caught because being caught would make his
revenge null and void. This plan of Montresor s is revealed to the reader as he describes the situation
he concocted to invite Fortunato into his home which Montresor made sure was empty of attendants:
He had a weak point this Fortunato although in other regards he was a man to be respected and even
feared (179). This weak point that Montresor uses is Fortunato s love of wine. Montresor uses this
love to challenge Fortunato to a taste testing of a rare wine called Amontillado. Instead of the tasting
the wine, however, Fortunato tastes death. This is not to say that Montresor

Mujers Fibres Research Paper
The anarchist/women s rights organization Mujeres Libres was a pioneering force in the egalitarian
movement. The organization faced much backlash during its existence solely because it was an
organization of anarchist women during a time when patriarchy and nationalism were the dominating
norms. Therefore, the group had to overcome many obstacles put in place by Spanish society to prove
themselves as both a women s rights and an anarchist organization. Mujeres Libres used this unique
intersection between anarchism and women s rights to bring a distinctive and specialized approach to
equality that proved to be effective for giving a voice to silenced anarchist women.
Though political fluctuation was abundant in early 1900s Spain, one constant within the society was
its predominantly patriarchal nature. It was a society in which power was not associated with women,
because women were not viewed as equals to men. Consequently, women lived very restricted lives;
their place was limited to the household and their was worth determined by whether or not they were
married or by how submissive they acted towards men. Because of the society s expectations that
women should assume roles within the home, there was a vast discrepancy between the educational
levels of men and women. Higher education was exceedingly rare among Spanish women and female
illiteracy rates reached nearly 70%. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. The World s Biggest Terrorist Group In two years Isis has been the cause for over 170,000 people s death, making it today the world s biggest terrorist group. Isis was first created in Iraq and is now slowly growing too many other countries in the world. This group is now one the biggest problems that the world faces today. Isis stands for Islamic state in Iraq and Syria. Members of Isis were first a part of al Qaeda, then in 2013 became its own group. This paper will answer: How was Isis formed, and why is it the way it is today? Under its former name Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (Isis), it was formed in April 2013, growing out of al Qaeda in Iraq (AQI). The organization is led by Abu Bakr al Baghdadi. Little is known about him, but it is believed he was born in Samarra, north of Baghdad, in 1971 and joined the insurgency that erupted in Iraq soon after the 2003 US led invasion. In 2010 he emerged as the leader of al Qaeda in Iraq, one of the groups that later became Isis. Baghdadi is regarded as a battlefield commander and tactician, which analysts say makes his group more attractive to young jihadists than al Qaeda, which is led by Ayman al Zawahiri, an Islamic theologian. IS claims to have fighters from the UK, France, Germany and other European countries, as well as the US, the Arab world and the Caucasus (The Islamic State militant group). This quote explains how Isis was formed and how it was first organized. One of its main leaders includes a man named Abu Bakr al Baghdadi. He also tries ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Meaning Of Good And Evil For the word, evil, there are many different ways in which you could define it. Evil seems to come across to people as killing and torture, and that is right but there is much more to evil than just those two. Ordinary people do not see a random person walking on the street to be evil, but they could be evil or really just a person walking down the street. Thinking of humans in a more psychological way we tend to only see the bad in someone, and not the good they might have. Throughout history, we do not really see a change in how people view the word evil. To some they may cringe and others it might light up their eyes. Although we all can perceive evil differently one thing is for sure, and that is the word good. Everyone sees good as a positive outlook on whatever is around it. People tend to look at good as if we all should have within us somewhere. These two words have completely different meanings and different outlook. Good and Evil also means that we are able to give a better understanding of each because of their differences. Evil tends to have a more lasting impression on you, and not necessarily a good one but one remember what happens more if it is negative. According to Gray and Wegner (2009), they intended to look at the more typecasting, which is the relationship within moral agency and moral patiency (Gray Wegner, 2009). Grey and Wegner (2009), did seven studies with typecasting in order to see a range of different variables, which included a variety of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Pros And Cons Of Progressive Tax The reason why progressive taxation is considered fairer and why flat taxation policy is avoided is because the people with lower income have lower ability to pay and the major part of their income is spent on necessities, a flat taxation policy would burden them more. Both the taxation policy have their pros and cons. A progressive tax shifts the burden on the people with higher income, it reduces the amount that the people with lower income pay. Because it reduces the burden of tax it results in reduction for the need of subsidies. Meanwhile a flat taxation system reduces the tax burden on people with high income and gives them an opportunity to further increase their investment. Several reasons can be given to justify progressive taxation policy over flat taxation policy. One reason is that those who earn more can afford to pay more, without having to curtail their standard of living or in any way reducing their chances of prospering Also another important justification is that the small businesses find it difficult and struggle more compared to the big ones and hence burdening them with large amount of tax will ... For example, economists Thomas Piketty and Emmanuel Saez wrote that decreased progressiveness in US tax policy in the post World War II era has increased income inequality by enabling the wealthy greater access to capital.[14] Conversely, a report published by the OECD in 2008 presented empirical research showing a negative relationship between the progressivity of taxes and economic growth.[15] Describing the research, William McBride, a staff writer with the Tax Foundation, stated that progressivity can undermine investment, risk taking, entrepreneurship, and productivity because high income earners tend to do much of the saving, investing, risk taking, and high productivity ... • 7. Nonverbal Communication In The Movie Erin Brockovich Nonverbal communication covers all aspects of communication beyond words. It is anything from body gestures to the way words are spoken. The tone, demeanor, hidden meaning behind words, mix that with body language and what is creates in nonverbal communication elements. Even clothes and personal appearance can send a nonverbal message. Nonverbal communication accounts for nearly 65 93% communication means (Wood, 2014). One area where nonverbal communication sent a negative, incorrect message is the movie Erin Brockovich. The clothing of the main character sent the message that she was uneducated, white trash. This could not be further from the truth. She was an intelligent, single mother who saw a problem where nobody else did. Clothing can send a nonverbal message. A person dresses differently when going to an adventure park than for an evening out on the town. What nonverbal rule did I break? I wore less than appropriate attire to a funeral showing. One of my cancer patients lost her battle with her disease. I learned of the viewing the day it was taking place. Due to the time and location of the viewing I went directly from work to the funeral home. The short notice did not allow for me to bring a change of clothes or go home prior. How did I break the rule? The rule was broken by wearing the inappropriate attire. Even though viewings are expected to be slightly less formal than the actual funeral there is still a level of expectation of others. The expectation of someone being dressed in business casual. I would not expect to see someone in their jeans and a t shirt or shorts at a viewing. I was still in my work clothing which appropriate for the job task, no appropriate for the moment. Myself and my nurses wore our scrubs to the viewing because we all had similar situations that would not allow for attire change. What were the reaction of others? The deceased sisters did not seem bothered by our wear. They were aware that we might not have time to go home and change our clothes at the end of our day. Due to their high involvement in the care of their sister, they had grown quite found on myself and the other staff. They were just overjoyed that all of us could attend and pay ... • 8. Sin Un Pasado, No Hay Futuro Poem Artist Joe Stephenson created Sin Un Pasado, No Hay Futuro mural located on 2nd Street and Gold, Downtown Albuquerque, in August of 1994 to convey the lesson we are forever frozen in time without the knowledge of our past. Together we can achieve greatness in our future with the guidance of the past. It s a sad thing when a culture, or tradition is forgotten and lost in time. This mural is showing us how important it is to preserve New Mexican history, culture, and traditions for generations to come and the negative impact it can lead to if we fail to do so. Stephenson, Joe. Sin Un Pasado, No Hay Futuro. 1994, Downtown, Albuquerque The colors in this mural reflect many different emotions. They may be Stephenson s feelings towards the subject or our own. Beige neutral colors deliver a calm and relaxing feel. The red on the trains and the rooftop, give out an energetic, powerful impression. The vibrant color of turquoise symbolizes friendship and peace. The orange and yellow sunrise give out warmth and joy that spreads into a pink hue of harmony, symbolizing a bright new day, and a bright new future. All these colors Stephenson used represent simpler times of the southwest before the chaotic takeover of the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway also known as AT SF. According to Kansas Historical Society, the AT SF Railway chartered in February of 1859. At its largest, the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway would own well over 13,000 miles, and the routes which made up its system would become some of the most heavily and strategically used throughout the West that remains so to this day ( New Mexico Museum of Art). The Prensa de Albuquerque newspaper headline portion of the mural is dated Feb 1970 stating MORONIC OFFICIALS DESTROY HISTORIC LANDMARKS... Old Albuquerque High School Next on Hit List! bring out strong feelings of outrage, and resentment along with the advertisement The Best in The West selling land through Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe. • 9. The Cultural Differences Of Irish Identity And Individual... Many countries and people from different parts of the world established individual identities throughout the course of the twentieth century which greatly impacted globalization. Identity relates to self image and is crucial for the development of culture. A person s identity is defined as the totality of one s self construal, in which how one construes oneself in the present expresses the continuity between how one construes oneself as one was in the past and how one construes oneself as one aspires to be in the future, (Weinreich, 1986). The way that people view themselves in the past, present and future can alter the course of history for generations and dictates international relations for years to come. Globalization, or the way that people interact with one another whether through ideas, culture, money or socially is dependent upon preserving individualism which has not proven to be the easiest task to master. The cultural differences related to the Irish living on the British Isles, the Basque population in Spain, Serbs under Ottoman rule, as well as Moroccans under French control can still be felt in many ways today and have impacted people and nations around the globe. Analysis The Irish have a longstanding history of struggle when it comes to establishing identity and independence. As we witnessed with Irish immigrants coming to the United States in the 1800s, difficulties were experienced in the British Isles which created a sense of tension and brought about ... • 11. The Social Differences Between Oral And Oral History Oral accounts are crucial to understanding historical events which may have not been recorded through text. The whole process in oral history is important to create the bigger image of the story and provide the meaning. The act of listening is just as complex as interpreting the story, both aspects give history a better understanding. The uniqueness of oral history can t compare to written history due to the compassion and emotions that are evoked while talking. There are social implications of oral history that come in various forms which effect the process. Although it is a complex process, it enhances historical practices for many reasons. The comparison between oral and written history has many discrepancies that impact the understanding of history in a great way. Oral history has the ability to evoke many emotions due to being able to see the body language of the speaker. Gestures create emphasis on various words which may have a significant meaning to the speaker. These gestures would not be seen through text thus it allows readers to experience the story through emotions as well as facts. The intensity of words also creates emphasis which is only available through speech. Francis Good uses an analogy to express the difference between text and oral accounts. Good states manuals and handbooks invariably provide advice on the issues, problems and strategies involved, but practice and comment show considerable divergence at times (Good, 362) which alludes to the conclusion that textual accounts can leave out some information. These aspects contribute to how the audience perceives the information given, importance will be given to items which can t be expressed through text. Oral history serves a social purpose in today s society. Oral accounts give the public a better understanding about social, political and economic issues which may not be written about. Oral history changes the precedent of how history is interpreted. It enhances the historical practices by emphasizing important aspects and revealing stories which may not have been heard otherwise. Oral history and interviews are particularly beneficial for minorities, including women and the illiterate, to express their stories. In Telling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Actors, models, and celebrities who are seen in magazines, television, and/or social media demonstrate the physical characteristics of the widely desired ideal image; which includes of being a female who is tall, slender, and blemish free or a male who is tall, masculine, and smooth skinned. Because the media constantly presents models and actresses with an unachievable body image it influences both feminine and masculine genders in believing what is considered to be the perfect ideal image in today s society. There are more than one third of women who want to have the appearance of a female model; unfortunately, there are also as much men who want to appear like the muscular male models that are presented in the mass media. Since there is such pressure in having a good body women and men can experience societal pressure and guilt about their self body image. There are vast and simiular reasons that all of these officers have to conduct legal searches. For police officers as we learned in several chapters, there are issues that come with their abilities to conduct legal searches, for example a police officer cannot just approach someone on their front porch and demand to enter their home to search for illegal substances or arms etc. However, if one was driving by your home and seen you in your garage with what appeared to be a meth lab or marijuana grow operation then they can stop to search as it would be a duty of theirs to protect the community. • 16. How Jesus Life Affected Our Lives When we look back on Jesus life, we can see how his life affected ours. Jesus was the Messiah. He was sent by God to do great things. Not only did he save people, but also he sacrificed himself to for everyone s sins. I have learned many things about Jesus in Christian Worldview and even more when reading about his life and biblical principles. We can learn how Jesus was important through Messianic Prophecies, Jesus Teachings, and His Miracles. We can learn how Jesus was important through Messianic Prophecies. A prophecy that stands out comes from Isaiah 9. It says that, The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. It also says that, For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah prophesied that Jesus, the child born would become their deliverer, the Messiah. In a time of great darkness, God promised to send a light to shine on everyone living a life full of sin. It turns out that this message came to be true, with the birth of Christ, he came to deliver. Another prophecy that is important is the one in Isaiah 53 that talks about Jesus sacrifice for us. In verses 1 3, it talks about how Jesus was treated like an ordinary man. He had no outward beauty or majesty, and he was despised and rejected. Then, in verse 7, it says that he was led like a lamb to the slaughter. In the Old Testament, people often gave ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Causes Of Csare Lombroso Nowadays it is common to hear expressions like beware of that man, he has the face of a thief ; These young people are suspicious, their appearance is deplorable, or because of that scar he has, I would say he is a criminal. It is also often observed that certain types of people are still rejected, isolated or labeled by society, due to their physical characteristics, because they have congenital malformations, or they have been acquired during the course of their existence. It is not good to judge by appearances, but there are people who at first sight seem dangerous to us. In the nineteenth century, the scientist Cesare Lombroso developed a theory that defines potential criminals by some of their physical features. Cesare Lombroso, a criminologist and Italian physicians, he was one of the forerunners of modern criminology in that he may be born predisposed to be a criminal for biological causes. His legacy is still present, although his studies and publications caused and continue to cause considerable controversy. This Italian, who during his career published twenty five books that combine biological science with criminology, was one of the most important exponents of criminological positivism. Gladwell writes, And the primary determinant of who showed up was critical friends the more friends you had who were critical of the regime the more likely you were to join the protest (Gladwell 234). A person who is an advocate of the government tends to alter his or her idea if most of his or her friends are critical of the regime. And the more friends he or she have who are against the authorities, the more likely he or she modifies original ideas and pretend to think just like others in order to maintain his or her relative position in groups. Thus, the number of critical friends determines the the possibility of joining the protest. Gladwell states a fact that critical friends affects the process of making a political decision. • 21. Imperialism of India by Britain Essay Imperialism is the domination of one country of the political, economic, or cultural life of another country. Imperialism is more often than not fueled by two major schools of thought known as nationalism and Social Darwinism. Nationalism is a feeling of pride and devotion to one s country. This can drive a person to think that their country is the most powerful, and in essence drives that person mad with power and a hunger to conquer, which not ironically is exactly what many countries did. Social Darwinism is the very idea that a more powerful country conquer the smaller countries. Survival of the fittest, as the well renowned Charles Darwin used to say. Britain would therefore have cheap raw materials sent back to them; because India was mercantilist (could only trade with the mother country) they did not have much of a choice but to sell to Britain cheaply. Britain therefore always had a steady source of raw materials Britain would turn raw materials into finished products that it would ship back to India and sell to Indians. Prices for goods were low and Indians liked that, but also Britain had a steady source of income. The most useful Indian industry for Britain was its cotton industry; Britain often used Indian cotton for clothing. India made for a cheap way to assemble (cheap labor) and an easy way to get business. For Britain, there was barely a negative side to imperializing in India. When Is Human Cloning Wrong In February 1997, the scientific world was forever changed by the announcement of the birth of Dolly the Sheep, the first mammal cloned from an adult cell (Jones 160). For the first time in medical history, science allowed for the possibility of human cloning. With this development came the concern that scientists would not only speculate about human cloning, but actually seek to attempt it. Such a prospect generates ethical unease from both the public and Christian community. This process certainly reflects a form of killing, even if it is only the destruction of an incredibly early human form. Additionally, taking advantage of human embryos disobeys Jesus command to love one another (NIV Bible, John 13:34). The song itself is in F# minor until the acoustic guitar solo in the middle of the song by Harrison, which is when it switches over to G minor (The Beatles Bible). I believe that the solo portion of the song is the best part. This portion of the song is more like a transitional period, as George Harrison does a good job of using relaxing tones. Harrison also plays the claves in the background of the song that serve as something similar to a metronome to keep the rhythm constant in the song. Due to the song s simplicity and beauty, it is no surprise that the tempo is slower. If the song were any faster, the message would be more difficult to portray.. In fact, motivations are so essential to the human psyche that they can determine the success of those actions. Edgar Allan Poe, the author of The Cask of Amontillado, understood that motivations were important and wrote the short story such that the main character s, Montresor s, motivations were a plot device that develops the story revolving around the success of Montresor s nefarious plans. In Poe s The Cask of Amontillado, the analysis of the Montresor Family coat of arms indicates the deeper meaning of blindness from passionate vengeance that Poe derives from the ironic double in the emblem. In the short story, Montresor, the villain, commits the murder of Fortunato, the victim, through an elaborate plan that ensures that Montresor will not be caught because being caught would make his revenge null and void. This plan of Montresor s is revealed to the reader as he describes the situation he concocted to invite Fortunato into his home which Montresor made sure was empty of attendants: He had a weak point this Fortunato although in other regards he was a man to be respected and even feared (179). The organization faced much backlash during its existence solely because it was an organization of anarchist women during a time when patriarchy and nationalism were the dominating norms. Therefore, the group had to overcome many obstacles put in place by Spanish society to prove themselves as both a women s rights and an anarchist organization. Mujeres Libres used this unique intersection between anarchism and women s rights to bring a distinctive and specialized approach to equality that proved to be effective for giving a voice to silenced anarchist women. Though political fluctuation was abundant in early 1900s Spain, one constant within the society was its predominantly patriarchal nature. It was a society in which power was not associated with women, because women were not viewed as equals to men. Consequently, women lived very restricted lives; their place was limited to the household and their was worth determined by whether or not they were married or by how submissive they acted towards men.
