How Is Celie Presented In The Color Purple
In the novel, The Color Purple, a character by the name of Celie is described as being oppressed. She
is oppressed throughout most of her life, especially as a child. She is constantly being put down by
men that see or talk to her. However, Celie is strong willed and that strength is channeled through how
she deals with how she was treated while being backed by the people who respect her and unified
through the love her and her sister share. Celie s strength is signified from how the men treated her
because every time they attacked her, verbally or physically, she took it and never gave it back. The
first example you see is in the very beginning as it shows her father taking her baby and finding out
that he took another before and they were both sired by him. Another example is when a character by
the name Mister wanted to marry Celie s sister Nettie but ended up with getting Celie because her
father would not allow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the characters that respects Celie is Shug. Shug s respect adds to Celie s strength because Shug
is Mister s girlfriend even though he and Celie are married. Celie s strength is the fact that she does
not care that they are together and still makes friends with Shug and to still have the ability to have
Shug respect her. The other character that respected Celie is Sofia as Celie helped her when she
needed it most. This shows Celie s strength because Sofia was once mad at Celie for telling her
husband to beat her and for Celie to be able to make up for it and get respect from Sofia shows that
Celie is a trapped individual with spurts of life and getting out of her confinement. To have people
respect her giving the circumstances she is in shows that she is stronger than people think and tells the
reader that being oppressed does not mean you will not obtain a voice one

The Mafia And The Mafia
original name in Italy.Mafia originated in Sicily today in Italy and Corsica in France, and refers to the
criminal organization of a local secret association.
Today, these criminal organizations are not only active in Italy. For more than 100 years (mainly in the
early 20th century), they have spread all over the world, especially on the east coast of the United
States, with the migration of Italians. Their forces in the United States rose during the Great
Depression and reached their height by the mid 20th century until a series of FBI investigations broke
down in the 1970s and 1980s. Their actions include assassinations, illegal trade and obstruction of
justice. Although their power is far behind, they still affect the trend culture of the United States.
Many movies, TV shows and even advertisements are related to their image or life.
Today, the term mafia refers not only to these Italian offenders. Affected by the organization, similar
groups of mafias, such as the Russian mafia, have emerged in other parts of the world. Sometimes
referred to as local mafia, these elements are still referred to by the daily mafia, still referring to the
group of Sicilian criminals in the United States. On the other hand, the same is Italian, but the criminal
organization located in Napoli is not called the mafia, but another name is Camorra . Mafia English
Mafia is derived from Arabic, meaning flight . The term is borrowed to refer to a loose combination of

Supernatural Season 12
Is Supernatural season 12 taking its cancellation slip soon? Speculations surrounding the long time
running television series points to its end soon. Like they say, all good things come to an end. But is
Supernatural season 12 really going to end? There are many reports that indicate that the show is
going to be on its last run. While there are others that claim that it is going to last until it can. The CW
network authorities did explain that they are willing to continue the legacy if the boys are still up to it.
And it looks like Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are still going strong. However, recent reports
indicate that Supernatural is slowly heading towards the opposite direction. There are many ways to
end a series. The show runners

The Continuous Cycle of War Ever since the days of Mesopotamia from the agricultural revolution,
war has been a constant and important part of human life. Over time though, humans have evolved
and gotten stronger and smarter which lead to more competition. War from its beginning, has
consistently stemmed from the innate sense of evolutionary survival and subsequent competition, thus
securing it s inevitable perpetuation. The only thing that every person has in common is that they want
to survive. Humans are always fighting. This shows how even though the monster had not done
anything inherently wrong, they are afraid because they just want to survive and the monster looks ...

Religions differing has caused many conflicts throughout history. The feeling of attachment to
tribalism and fake patriotism under the umbrella of religion is stronger and more apparent than respect
for human rights and pluralism (Mhamed 2). When people are tied so greatly to their religion, they
will be willing to throw away their morals and do whatever they deem is right for their beliefs, leading
to constant wars. different tribal and so called patriotic groups resort to religion to gain legacy and
popularity (Mhamad 2). Religion is even just a way to unite people to war such as saying they are
doing something in the name of their deity Both survival and competition, consequently have caused
continuous wars throughout human history. Humans are always fighting since the beginning of time.
Wherever there is an enemy, animate or inanimate, there must be a victory. You must prevail at the
front, no matter how high the cost at home (Wilson 1). There will always be war for these reasons.
Nationalism is one of the key examples coming from this quote and it is said for a very good reason.
group versus group competition was a principal driving force that made us what we are. In prehistory,
group selection lifted the hominids that became territorial carnivores to heights of solidarity, to genius,
to enterprise and to fear (Wilson 1). Competition was necessary and it will until the end of humans. It
has caused war but it

The Great Gatsby Time Analysis
The Great Gatsby took place in the fictitious town of West Egg. Gatsby, a mysterious millionaire who
throws parties that he does not participate in is at the center of this novel and later we find that the
reason he is throwing these parties is to get the attention of a woman named Daisy. Daisy and Gatsby
had met earlier on and had a relationship before he participated in WWI. When he came back Daisy
had already moved on and was married to Tom Buchanan. Now Gatsby still remains hopeful that he
can rekindle what they once had. Gatsby is unwilling to accept the past and persistently attempts to
recreate it. But the concept that underlies within this is time. Through this novel we see the concept of
time play out through the relationships ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

gold colored tie, hurried in. He was pale, and there were dark signs of sleeplessness beneath his eyes
(84). Silver is a flashy color that symbolizes a wealthy and rich atmosphere like that of gold. Due to
the fact that Gatsby chooses to wear this shirt to tea with Daisy, it is apparent that he is trying to use
his clothes to appeal to Daisy. Gatsby has spent all of his life trying to impress her and he cannot seem

Separation Of Mixtures
Separations of Mixture of Solids
The Purpose: To learn about the separation techniques that are based on the chemical properties of a
substance. Observe the separation of the mixtures and their component substances. Learning how to
compute the percentage a component makes up of the overall mix. The mixture contains iron filling,
sand, benzoic acid, and table salt. From the visual observation of the mixture, it looks like it has a
large amount of benzoic acid crystals compared to the others.
Procedure:
For this experiment, I used paper cups, 50 mL beaker, burner, the stand, weighted scale, magnet, and
the mixture of solids to separate sand, salt, iron and benzoic acid. The materials that were necessary

doing the filtration part, the paper also was hard, because the crystals from the ben, acid were already

Aggression In Nursing
The incidence of aggression is all too common and most healthcare workers have experienced it at one
point or another in their career. Nurses have a 3x higher risk for encountering aggression/ violence
than any other health care worker and they have a 1 in 10 chance of being injured by a patient during
their careers. (Delaney, J., Cleary, M., Jordan, R., Horsfall, J. 2001)
The objective of both of the studies was to review current evidence for managing aggressive patients
behaviors, and the definition that was used in both studies was: aggression is defined as any verbal,
non verbal or physical behavior that was threatening to the self, others or property, or physical
behavior that actually harmed self, others or property. (Foster, C., ... Show more content on

(Foster et al. 2007).
According a study done by Delaney, Cleary; Horsfall (2001), prevention and management of
aggression is priority and should be the focus for all nursing staff. According to the evidence,
prevention requires special skills and knowledge that staff can learn to utilize to predict and prevent
aggression in patients, and there needs to be a more organized approach to data collecting and patient
assessment to really understand the extent of the problem of aggression.
Some of the important processes that are discussed in Delaney, Cleary; Horsfall s study that help to
manage aggression are: de escalation skills, risk assessments, communication skills, and when needed,
restraint skills. The study also mentions the importance of continued education and training for
nursing staff in preventing and controlling violent

Analyzation Of Real Estate In U.S. Today. The Real Estate
Analyzation of real estate in U.S. today The real estate industry is a major business producing billions
of dollars in income every year, and there are adequate open doors for business visionaries to turn a
benefit. In 2016, there were approximately 210,000 companies operating in the residential brokerage
and management field, which generated $200 billion in revenue; there were 35,000 companies
operating in the commercial brokerage and management field, generating $35 billion in revenue. (Matt
2017)
Background
Real estate is a cyclical industry, responding to macroeconomic patterns, for example, loan fees,
populace development, and monetary quality. Land took off in the post World War II monetary blast of

The estimation of a land venture is controlled by numerous things yet area is critical. Variables
controlling the estimation of an area incorporate open transportation get to, the nature of the streets
and schools, pay levels and the quality and security of the neighborhood economy. Real estate brokers
must be authorized in the state in which they work, and keeping in mind that it is assessed that there
are more than one million authorized dealers, most are either dormant or consider business movement
as an optional profession.
Leasing Agents and Management Companies Leasing Agents work with property proprietors to deal
with the intricacy required with discovering, screening and marking occupants for their properties and
taking care of all the printed material. Management Companies works structures and different
properties, ensuring they are running appropriately, paying utilities, procuring staff and performing
support. Numerous administration organizations will likewise go about as renting specialists for the
property. Since most property costs are settled, keeping up low opening rates is basic to administration
organizations benefit.
Real Estate Industry Risks
Before considering an investment in any industry, it s best to be aware of the risks. In the real estate
industry these include (but of course are not limited to!) the following:

The Neonatal Brain Mri Image Database
As shown in the above figure 1, the input neonatal image from the database is preprocessed using
techniques such as noise removal, inhomogeneity and partial volume correction. Then from the
preprocessed image the texture feature is extracted through EWT (Empirical Wavelet transform) and
the most relevant features like Entropy, Correlation, Contrast, Homogeneity and Dissimilarity are
chosen by GLCM (Gray Level Co Occurrence Matrix). Based on the selected features the image is
segmented by means of SOM DCNN and then from the segmented image the tissues are classified
through the help of sparse auto encoder.

Also reduction of noise present in the image is important and it is done when the contextual constraint

variance is varied by additive Gaussian noise. By this way the Gaussian model suppress the Gaussian

Cubby Inc. V. Prodigy Summary
CASE (Stratton Oakmont, Inc. V. Prodigy): An unidentified user of Prodigy s Money Talk created a
post on the bulletin board in October 1994 and claimed that Stratton Oakmont, Inc a Long Island
Securities investment banking firm and its president Danny Porush performed criminal and fraudulent
activities with the initial public stock offerings of Solomon Page, Limited. Stratton Oakmont sued
both the Prodigy and the unidentified poster for the defamation and argued that Prodigy is liable under
the common law definition under defamation. Court Ruling: Stratton argued that liabilities are to be
imposed on Prodigy as it exerted editorial control over messages by 1. Posting content information
instructions for its users. 2. Enforce the guidelines with the Board Leaders. 3. Using screening
software to remove offensive language. Senator Exon provided a defense against such civil or criminal
liability, to encourage ISP to monitor the services. Later, this case conflicted with the court decision in

It is important to think critically about the context in which globalization begins and thrives,
especially in the minds of international scholars. The growth of Madison is a perfect example of
strategic creation through the use of undeveloped land in regards to local geography, society, and
interdependencies. Created from the ground up by three ambitious businessmen in the 1830s, Madison
started out as an iffy candidate for the busy urban center it is today. Based on the swamplands of
southern Wisconsin, Madison was called Four Lake Country and one of only two US cities to be
created on an isthmus (the other being Seattle, Washington). Throughout this essay the vital

Food Assistance Program Essay
Introductory Summary
Today the majority of our farm bill is dedicated to food assistance programs. In 2013 through the
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance program (SNAP) the U.S fed 47.6 million citizens at the cost of
76.4 billion. Another food assistance program called WIC has fed 9 million woman, infants, and
children at the price of 7 billion. The American government is doing a tremendous job at feeding the
less fortunate through these programs but like many programs they need to be improved. Through the
SNAP program participants are able to spend taxpayer money on sugar filled soft drinks and candy.
The new bill that is being prepared will limit the purchase of these unnecessary products. This bill will
restrict participants to simple food staples such as bread, beans, fruit, vegetables and rice. The new bill
will also add white potatoes to the WIC program. These changes that need to be made will contribute
in boosting the demand of multiple commodities and help eliminate unneeded aid to unhealthy foods.

demand, price, and quantity sold of rice will rise. In the long run things are a little different, since the
quantity supplied by farmers will increase the demand for this commodity will fall. This decrease in
demand will lower the price of rice back to the original equilibrium price. In the short and long run the
quantity of rice will increase not only helping the American farmer but also helping participants of the
SNAP program eat healthy. (See figure

Ascorbic Iodine Experiment
Two beakers were labeled ascorbic acid (C6H8O6) and iodine (I2). About 75.0 mL of standard
ascorbic acid solution was measured in a graduated cylinder. It was then placed in the beaker labeled
ascorbic solution. About 100.0 mL of iodine solution was measured using a graduated cylinder. The
measured solution was then placed in the beaker labeled iodine. From the iodine previously gathered,
about 55.0 mL was measured and placed into the burette. All of the solution did not fit into the burette.
The burette was filled until the iodine solution was at the 0.0 mL mark. A table chart was created to
record all the data collected during the experiment. The first data table was labeled standardized data.
Only one column was needed. It was labeled run one. The rows on the table were labeled final burette
volume, initial burette volume, mL of iodine solution, mg of ascorbic acid in solution, and mg
ascorbic acid in solution over mL of iodine solution. This data chart was used throughout the
experiment. After the table was created, the initial burette volume was recorded as 0.21 mL. A 125 mL
flask was then filled with 25.0 mL of the ascorbic acid solution from the beaker labeled ascorbic acid.
10 drops of 1% starch indicator was added to the ascorbic acid inside the flask. The two solutions
were then mixed together by swirling the flask. The solution within the flask was a clear liquid. The
flask was placed under the burette containing the iodine solution. Small amounts of the

Playstation Vs Xbox Essay
You sitting on the couch! Do you even game, bro!? Well if you do come down here to Walmart where
we now sell Playstations and Xboxes! These is what you usually hear from companies on commercials
these days and you get excited cause their selling gaming consoles. Now you re stuck in a conundrum
you don t know which to buy a Playstation or Xbox, so even though they have a few major differences
they are also extremely alike.
First Xbox, let s look at the design and user interface. The Xbox is huge way bigger than the PS4. On
the top half of the the console is a vent which means if you want to put something on top of it forget
about it. Towards the backside of the Xbox is three USB ports, but only two are for controllers. The
controller ports are in the back are very awkward because there usually in the front. The Xbox runs off
a Windows 10 UI (User Interface) which makes the home screen more complex and harder to find
things but very nice looking. Now let s look at the exclusive titles for the Xbox. Some titles include

ports are in the front like a normal gaming console. Now for the PS4 s UI, it s a whole lot simpler and
to me it s much neater. The user interface has to distinct sections, lower half of the UI is the main

An Age of Reason, An Age of Passion Essay
An Age of Reason, An Age of Passion
The period following the Renaissance focused the human attention toward the beauty of nature. It was
man s turn to be part of the nature and not the other way around. The term picturesque or compared to
a picture as Michael Woods defines it defines new characteristics of the art from this period.
This period, An Age of Reason, An Age of Passion, had a dual nature rational, responsive to reason,
but also anti rational, responsive to emotion.
Making one s way through the intellectual history of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, one
must be aware of the shifting meaning of such words as rationalism, naturalism, classicism,
romanticism. Like dancers in a reel, they combine and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Taste became a value above morality (Stewart et. al., 156). Rococo main themes focused on leisure,
love, and fashion. These themes and the dramatic verve of Rubens gave way to the lyrical tone of
Rubens great followers, Jean Antoine Watteau (1684 1721), Frangois Boucher (1703 1770), and Jean
Honor6 Fragonard (1732 1804), the outstanding masters of three generations of Rococo painting in
France (Stewart et al., 156).
When it comes to Fragonard and his paintings, I have to mention that he is one of my favorite painters.
Paintings like The Swing (1766), A Young Girl Reading (1776), The Study (1769), The Lover
Crowned (1771 73), The Meeting (1771 73) and so many more hold a special magic for me. Every
time I look at his paintings, it is like looking at a magic world. It is more like a dream world, or like an
old fashioned story that never loses its charm for a child s ears. Because of
Fragonard s talent, I can also listen to his magic stories: a stolen kiss, a flirtation giggle, the sound of
the wind browsing through a lovely garden with a magic swing.
From this period, although not a Rococo artist, we have to mention Jean Baptiste Chardin (1699
1779). While his contemporaries painted their high style works of the upstairs aristocratic life,
Chardin painted the downstairs (Stewart et. al., 160): kitchen or pantry copper pots, earthenware jugs,
and raw food.

Trauma From Intimate Partner Violence Essay
Stress within the family spreads to stress among other family members. Children from infancy to
adolescence absorb surrounding behaviors as their brain continues to develop, influencing potential
negative behaviors in their adulthood (Osofsky, et al., 2004). Trauma from intimate partner violence
could affect an infant more than an adult for reasons of dependence and periods of critical brain
development which may alter brain functions (Randell, Bledsoe, Shroff, Pierce, 2011). The parents, or
intimate partners, are often viewed by children as strong standing role models. In the eyes of a child,
these role models are seen as their idols, by seeing their idol in a constant state of weakness impacts
their personal understanding of the world and their potential role in it. Parental conflict causes distress
in children as the conflict could pose a direct threat to the child s personal safety (Martinez Torteya,
Bogat, Eye, Levendosky, 2009). Although, not every act of conflict results in negative behavior of the
offspring, every relationship has periods of disagreement (Dejonghe, Bogat, Levendosky, Eye,
Davidson, 2005). Influences which may dictate negative consequential behavior in children are the
frequency, intensity, and subject of conflict (Anderson Bang, 2011; Dejonghe, Bogat, Levendosky,
Eye, Davidson, 2005; Lohman, Neppl, Senia, Schofield, 2013; Martinez Torteya, Bogat, Eye,
Levendosky, 2009). Youth exposed to intimate partner violence experience problems

Compare And Contrast Essay Good Vs Evil
Good vs. Evil There are numerous things that citizens of this world are afraid of. A huge example is
public speaking. Getting up in front of many peers, friends, advisors, and role models can intimidate,
frighten, or discourage us in many different ways. The fear that others will judge or think less of us is
scary and can be a gigantic blow to our pride. Often times, feelings of anxiety join the scene, making
the situation as terrible as it can possibly be. Many of these feelings that have been mentioned
contribute to the reason why humans like to stay in their comfort zones and do the things that they
have always done, for fear that people may judge them, or they might fail. Another common fear that
people have is dying. For many religiously active people, this topic is the least of their worries, but for
others, they can t help but worry about what will become of them once they leave this earth. Will they
be remembered for how amazing and confident they were? Will people feel a rush of relief and
happiness because they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During funerals, relatives and close friends of the person who has perished usually speak about or
discuss the things that they accomplished in their lives. They focus on the highs in their life and the
great moments that took place during their peaks. For example, if a teenager died in an unexpected car
accident, their mom would undoubtedly talk about how awesome a child they were, how blessed they
were as a parent, and how much they re going to miss them in the future. The sins that we have
committed in our lives are forgotten and people tend to focus on the bright sides of our lives. Part of
the reason for this is empathy, and the fact that, as humans, we have all sinned at some point in our
lives or another. Nonetheless, it cannot be denied that the deaths of modern people are remembered in
a cheerful or optimistic

Chaos In Frankenstein
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley is a story about Victor Frankenstein s creation, a monster. Throughout
the story, the monster feels left out, like an outcast, and as a result turns to killing to get revenge on his
creator. He wreaks havoc everywhere he goes and ultimately causes his own demise. By the end of the
story, it would have been better for everyone if the monster had been destroyed. He never should have
been created in the first place, caused chaos, constantly felt out of place in the world, and did not
really have a purpose for living. Frankenstein s monster was a mistake in the first place. Victor created
the monster in secret with the fear that someone would find out about his work. It was unethical for
him to try to create life, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the whole story, the monster kills a lot of people and scares everyone he sees. If the
monster was destroyed, many characters would not have died and the world would be more peaceful.
For example, if the monster had been destroyed earlier, Justine would not have been blamed for the
murder of William. She would not have been killed for something she was not guilty of. The monster
did not fit in. The story tells of how he was tall, had a big stature, great strength, scars, and generally
looked scary. Because of these features, he scared everyone he met, causing him to be utterly alone.
Rather than face the cruelty of the world and be cast out from the population, it would have been
better for the monster if he was just destroyed. The monster didn t have a purpose to live his life. He
was created so that Victor could make an advancement in science, but he was not brought to life with a
purpose other than to be a science experiment. HIs whole existence, the monster was so focused on
revenge that when Victor finally died, the monster decided to kill itself because it had nothing else to
live for. Because he was born without a true purpose or importance to society, it would have been
better if he stopped

The Negative Consequences of Discipline
One of the fundamental responsibilities of schools is to keep its students and teachers safe from harm
and violence. Over the years, this has meant applying zero tolerance policies, which have encouraged
and led to overcriminalization and the over intervention of the juvenile justice system. This correlation
between zero tolerance measures and the justice system has been termed school to prison pipeline .
Zero tolerance has, for the most part, worked; but do we like how it has worked? Although this policy
has some benefits, its biggest flaw is that it is disproportionately applied to minorities, a trend that is
largely reflected and reinforced in policies. From a legal perspective, many questions are raised as to
the constitutionality of applying punitive disciplinary measures to students, seeing that expulsions and
suspensions prohibit and limit student access to education. Consequently, micro level disciplinary
alternatives have been developed, which aim to rehabilitate offenders rather than punish them. These
alternatives offer a balance between discipline and the risk of overcriminalization, and include
counseling, anger management sessions, victim offender mediation, and peer judiciaries. One central
question that is raised throughout this discussion is the objective of the discipline; whether
disciplinary measures should be used to punish or embarrass students, or whether it needs to reinforce
and teach them why their behavior is wrong. This then relates to the

The Journey into Hell in Heart of Darkness
In Joseph Conrad s novel, Heart of Darkness the environment is often symbolic as well as literal. The
novel contains both the frame narrator, an anonymous member of the Nellie , representing the
dominant society, and more importantly the primary narrator, Marlow, who too, is a product of the
dominant society. For the novel s narrator, Marlow, the journey up the Congo River to the heart of
darkness is reminiscent of Guido s journey into hell in Dante s Inferno, with these literary allusion
always present, through forms of intense imagery. The landscape takes on a hellish nature and the
wilderness is personified. Death is omnipresent and this is reflected in the death imagery used ... Show

Darkness is used throughout the novel to symbolize savagery, death and the unknown. Marlow s
observation is reinforced when London is described as a brooding gloom . In thisinstance the physical
description of the city serves to reinforce Marlow s theory, and refute the earlier judgments of the
frame narrator.
Marlow tells of his quest for employment, that is, an unnamed city in Brussels, the sepulchral city that
he visits to sign his contract. Conrad uses much death imagery to describe the physical appearance of
the city. He describes it: as having the appearance of a well kept alley in a cemetery . Marlow travels
to the dead centre of the city. He observes grass sprouting between the stones just as grass sprouts
between tombstones. This environmental imagery is symbolic of the hypocrisy that Marlow
Witnesses, the exploitation that forms the basis of the company and the universality of death. All three
interpretations of the applicability of the imagery are reasonable however, the death imagery also links
to Marlow s apprehension. Marlow says that he felt as if he had been let into some conspiracy . The
death imagery associated with this, the first leg of Marlows journey on his way to his farthest point of
navigation and culminating point of (his) experience is appropriate as it relates strongly to

Blanding s Turtle Populations
By comparing the observed heterozygosity of two Blanding s turtle populations, it was determined
that Area 1 had significantly greater observed heterozygosity than Area 2. The lower observed
heterozygosity found in Area 2 may have been caused by the founder effect, resulting in a loss of
genetic variation. The founder effect occurs when a new population is established by a small group of
migrants from a larger population. The founder effect involves a random sampling of alleles during
the reproduction of consecutive generations; when a small population is isolated, it may amplify the
loss of genetic variation as individuals may become increasingly genotypically similar after each
subsequent generation. Eventually, the alleles may become fixed ... Show more content on

Population bottlenecks occur when a population undergoes a large reduction in size as a result of
environmental events or human activities. As a result, genetic variation may decrease as certain alleles
may be over presented, under presented, or completely absent. Consequently, the genetic variation
may continue to decline throughout subsequent generations as smaller populations, with less genetic
diversity, sexually reproduce, passing on a limited amount of genes to future offspring. Furthermore,
heterozygosity in these populations may decrease as a result of inbreeding. Inbreeding occurs when
two closely related individuals reproduce; inbreeding may cause the accumulation of homozygous
recessive genes and a decrease in genetic variation. Additionally, infrequently occurring alleles, rather
than common alleles, may face a greater chance of being lost, which may further decrease the level of
genetic diversity. As the population continues to decline, the genetic drift may be intensified as a result
of increasing genetic limitations. Similarly, Rubin et al. (2001) compared smaller, isolated populations
of Blanding s turtles found in the Greater Chicago area to larger populations found in Michigan, Nova
Scotia and Wisconsin, and determined, by using amplified polymorphic DNA, that the smaller
populations had a loss of genetic variation in comparison to the

Essay on Unraveling the Issues of Compensated Organ Donations
Introduction
Compensated organ donations one of the most controversial issues we have today. The scarcity of
organ donations in America is the main reason there is a sudden diversion of possible source of
organs. Beginning with donations of organs from cadaver to living donors, different strategies sprung
just to reduce the said shortage; as a result of this quest, sale and paid organs is one of the approaches
that gathered too much attention from the public. The controversy of paid organ donations entered the
limelight when the state of Wisconsin offered incentives to the living donors. This law, which was
created in the year 2004, grants tax deduction and repayment of donation expenses such as travel cost
and lost earnings. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, it also violates human dignity because it treats the organs and human body parts as
commodities. Not to mention the fact that such action weakens and demoted altruism. However, the
real picture of compensated organ donations is actually the opposite of unethical and self interest ; it
promotes life and therefore regarded as a good and moral deed. Organ Donation s Supply and Demand
Knowing the rate of supply and demand of organ donation helps in establishing a clear background
about the issue. For instance, Monti (2009) explained the reality of supply and demand of kidneys.
The supply of this organ coming from deceased and altruistic donors are not enough to support the
demand of those individuals who are in need. Approximately there are 73,000 people who wait for
kidney donations and 18 of those who are in the wait list will die by tomorrow. Accordingly, the list is
being added by 6,000 individuals every year. An individual has to wait for five years before he/she can
get an organ donation. The facts and figures presented by Monti shows that there is a big gap between
the supply and demand of organ donations . The Center for Bioethics (2004) gave supplementary
details on the issue of organ shortage. In their article ethics of organ transplantation they said that
United Network for Organ Sharing or UNOS keeps a comprehensive figure on the present status of
people who need organ transplants and presently there more than

Mrs. Ferguson s An Emotional Breakdown
Mrs. Ferguson sniffled. Out of her nose oozed a slimy strand of pale, green liquid. Her runny nose was
not caused by the cold, though it was very cool this time of year. No, she had in fact just lost her 45
year old husband, who had been murdered. When she had received word of the tragic event, she had
suffered an emotional breakdown. She had desperately demanded to know who the killer was, but the
man who she was speaking with on the phone had told her that the police had no idea, but they were
investigating. She had hung up, and cried constantly. By the time her tears had stopped spilling, her
cheeks had been covered with a crusty coating of dried tears.Need descriptive words. Currently, she
was at the local cemetery, where all around, freshly fallen snow twinkled and glistened on the once
green ground. The pale gray pathway had been shoveled, however, so that people could get around the
cemetery easily. Mrs. Ferguson was listening attentively to the pastor, who was describing Mr.
Ferguson s life. Only Mr. Ferguson s close family had been invited to attend the funeral, so they all
knew every detail of his life, but it was common practice to read it all anyways. Bobby Ferguson had
been a doctor. An anesthesiologist, to be precise. Whenever someone was to have surgery or give
birth, for example, he would give them medicine to make them sleep until the pain of it was over.
Now, Mrs. Ferguson thought gloomily, it was his turn to rest. It had been Bobby s goal to be a

Hybridity Of Aunty
nothing to do with his actions for choices, in my opinion, it resulted in the choices of his mother and
Ifemelu. Aunty Uju seemed to control the way Dike should act resulting in him not knowing who he is
a person, someone who is Nigerian or someone who is black in the United States. This led Dike to
conforming to certain stereotypes, such as what an African American man should speak and dress,
partly due to friends, but also because of the actions of his mother. Unfortunately, his inability to be
able to self identify, lead to him having an overdose and almost killing himself. After his overdose,
Ifemelu blames Aunty Uju and states, You told him what he wasn t, instead of what he was (470).

the schools were based off either British or French education. Obinze seeming annoyed with the

of the modernity of the country, but because of her hybridity, she also dislikes how the country has not

Liquid Chromatography Lab
Chromatography is a technique used to separate a mixture of compounds for analytical or preparative
purposes. In liquid chromatography, the mixture of compounds is dissolved in a liquid mobile phase
and then travels through a stationary phase, which acts as the adsorbent. Solute molecules interact
with the stationary phase through adsorption and desorption. A compound which has stronger
interactions with the stationary phase will move slower than a compound with weaker interaction with
the stationary phase. The components of a mixture are separated based on their differences in mobility.
Usually the stationary phase is a polar porous compound, such as silica gel, which has a large surface
area and hydroxyl groups, giving it the ability to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ortho hydroxyacetophenone travelled higher up the silica gel TLC plate than its para counterpart
because ortho was less polar and formed fewer interactions with the silica gel adsorbent. Ortho
hydroxyacetophenone formed intramolecular hydrogen bonds between its carbonyl and hydroxyl
groups. Para hydroxyacetophenone formed intermolecular hydrogen bonds with its carbonyl and
hydroxyl group. P hydroxyacetophenone was more polar, so it travelled a shorter distance up TLC
plate due to its many interactions with polar silica gel. Polar compounds have stronger dipole dipole
interactions which require more energy and higher temperatures to melt, accounting for p
hydroxyacetophenone s high melting point. Unknown #16 contained the compounds acetaminophen,
caffeine, and acetylsalicylic acid. The distances acetylsalicylic acid and ibuprofen travelled along the
silica gel plate were very similar, but since the Rf value of the unknown was closer to acetylsalicylic
acid than to ibuprofen, it was determined that acetylsalicylic acid was one of the unknown
compounds. Since ibuprofen and acetylsalicylic acid travelled the greatest distance up the TLC plate,
they had the least amount of attraction to the silica gel plate, making them the least polar solutes. For
column chromatography, unknown #16 contained 0.0457g ferrocene, 0.0137g 9 fluorenone, and
0.0114g acetylferrocene. Their mass percentages were 44.15%, 13.24%, and 11.01%, respectively,
determined from a total of 0.1035g of the compound mixture. Ferrocene, 9 fluorenone and
acetylferrocene had melting points of 174 175̊C, 83 86̊C, and 83 85̊C, respectively. The mixture after
evaporation accounted for roughly 68% of the original mixture. This was mainly due to product loss
from keeping only the pure test tubes. Based on the amount of product obtained, unknown #16

With the Jewish expulsion from the land of Palestine, from the Romans. Their lives depended on
endeavoring to survive in the land that they were coerced on. For some, assimilation was the only way
to survive. It was either stay ostracized or assimilate and endeavor to become something. During the
18000s an incipient conception emerged from the Jewish people in many different counties. This
conception came to what Zionism is, a way for the Jewish people to become a whole. Some Zionist

Nordau, like Herzl, was born in Budapest and received almost same education that was German

He did receive a deeper Jewish thought than Hess and Herzl. His father taught Hebrew by profession
and taught his son the language. Additionally, like Herzl, he received a very good education, but also
worked in publishing. He went to medical school and became a doctor while at the same time he was

about the uncompromising culture of antisemitism in many European countries. He blasted them in a
book called Conventional Lies of Civilization where he explained an uncompromising analysis of the
cultural scene and a particularly violent attack upon religion. (Herzberg P. 233) Then his book was
subjected to bring banned by the catholic church and the countries of Austria, Russia, and England.
His ideas like Herzl was one of learning about nations and religions that were subjected to awful

Summary Of Savitar s Running Fast
Savitar is clearly a speedster just like the Flash. However, I do not believe that Savitar uses the speed
force exactly like Barry does. Barry s use of the speed force allows him to break the time barrier.
Breaking the time barrier allows Barry to time travel. In the second to last episode of the Flash that
premiered before this article was written(which was the seventh episode of the third season) Savitar
demonstrated that he is fast enough to make it seem like he is appearing and reappearing in different
places over and over again. Cisco and the rest of the characters assume that Savitar is, in fact, running
fast enough for Barry s suit tracker to show that he is seemingly teleporting. Here is where my theory

I believe that Savitar is actually using the speed force in a way that is drastically different than the way
that Barry uses the speed force. Now, the way that Barry uses the speed force is a topic for a different
day, but he clearly does not use it in the same way that Savitar seems to use it. I think that Savitar
teleports by breaking the space barrier. When Barry time travels, he opens a portal into the speed
force, enters the speed force, and then emerges in a point in time of his choosing. What Savitar seems
to be doing is opening a portal to the speed force, entering the portal, and then emerging at a point in
space of his choosing. This explains why everything looks like it does in the speed force when Savitar
runs. It looks like Savitar is in the speed force because he is in the speed force. This means that Savitar
may not actually be much faster than Barry. In fact, if we attribute his victory over Barry in the
beginning of the seventh episode to Barry being caught off guard and Barry being distracted by both
Dr. Alchemy and his want to protect the people around him, then Savitar might actually not be as fast

  • 2. How Is Celie Presented In The Color Purple In the novel, The Color Purple, a character by the name of Celie is described as being oppressed. She is oppressed throughout most of her life, especially as a child. She is constantly being put down by men that see or talk to her. However, Celie is strong willed and that strength is channeled through how she deals with how she was treated while being backed by the people who respect her and unified through the love her and her sister share. Celie s strength is signified from how the men treated her because every time they attacked her, verbally or physically, she took it and never gave it back. The first example you see is in the very beginning as it shows her father taking her baby and finding out that he took another before and they were both sired by him. Another example is when a character by the name Mister wanted to marry Celie s sister Nettie but ended up with getting Celie because her father would not allow ... The other character that respected Celie is Sofia as Celie helped her when she needed it most. This shows Celie s strength because Sofia was once mad at Celie for telling her husband to beat her and for Celie to be able to make up for it and get respect from Sofia shows that Celie is a trapped individual with spurts of life and getting out of her confinement. To have people respect her giving the circumstances she is in shows that she is stronger than people think and tells the reader that being oppressed does not mean you will not obtain a voice one ... • 3. The Mafia And The Mafia original name in Italy.Mafia originated in Sicily today in Italy and Corsica in France, and refers to the criminal organization of a local secret association. Today, these criminal organizations are not only active in Italy. For more than 100 years (mainly in the early 20th century), they have spread all over the world, especially on the east coast of the United States, with the migration of Italians. Their forces in the United States rose during the Great Depression and reached their height by the mid 20th century until a series of FBI investigations broke down in the 1970s and 1980s. Their actions include assassinations, illegal trade and obstruction of justice. Although their power is far behind, they still affect the trend culture of the United States. Many movies, TV shows and even advertisements are related to their image or life. Today, the term mafia refers not only to these Italian offenders. Affected by the organization, similar groups of mafias, such as the Russian mafia, have emerged in other parts of the world. Sometimes referred to as local mafia, these elements are still referred to by the daily mafia, still referring to the group of Sicilian criminals in the United States. On the other hand, the same is Italian, but the criminal organization located in Napoli is not called the mafia, but another name is Camorra . Drew Mingione Ms. Speirs English 10H A4 April 27, 2017 The Continuous Cycle of War Ever since the days of Mesopotamia from the agricultural revolution, war has been a constant and important part of human life. Over time though, humans have evolved and gotten stronger and smarter which lead to more competition. War from its beginning, has consistently stemmed from the innate sense of evolutionary survival and subsequent competition, thus securing it s inevitable perpetuation. The only thing that every person has in common is that they want to survive. Humans are always fighting. Religions differing has caused many conflicts throughout history. The feeling of attachment to tribalism and fake patriotism under the umbrella of religion is stronger and more apparent than respect for human rights and pluralism (Mhamed 2). When people are tied so greatly to their religion, they will be willing to throw away their morals and do whatever they deem is right for their beliefs, leading to constant wars. different tribal and so called patriotic groups resort to religion to gain legacy and popularity (Mhamad 2). Religion is even just a way to unite people to war such as saying they are doing something in the name of their deity Both survival and competition, consequently have caused continuous wars throughout human history. Humans are always fighting since the beginning of time. Wherever there is an enemy, animate or inanimate, there must be a victory. You must prevail at the front, no matter how high the cost at home (Wilson 1). There will always be war for these reasons. Nationalism is one of the key examples coming from this quote and it is said for a very good reason. group versus group competition was a principal driving force that made us what we are. In prehistory, group selection lifted the hominids that became territorial carnivores to heights of solidarity, to genius, to enterprise and to fear (Wilson 1). Competition was necessary and it will until the end of humans. It has caused war but it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Another food assistance program called WIC has fed 9 million woman, infants, and children at the price of 7 billion. The American government is doing a tremendous job at feeding the less fortunate through these programs but like many programs they need to be improved. Through the SNAP program participants are able to spend taxpayer money on sugar filled soft drinks and candy. The new bill that is being prepared will limit the purchase of these unnecessary products. This bill will restrict participants to simple food staples such as bread, beans, fruit, vegetables and rice. The new bill will also add white potatoes to the WIC program. These is what you usually hear from companies on commercials these days and you get excited cause their selling gaming consoles. Now you re stuck in a conundrum you don t know which to buy a Playstation or Xbox, so even though they have a few major differences they are also extremely alike. First Xbox, let s look at the design and user interface. The Xbox is huge way bigger than the PS4. On the top half of the the console is a vent which means if you want to put something on top of it forget about it. Towards the backside of the Xbox is three USB ports, but only two are for controllers. The controller ports are in the back are very awkward because there usually in the front. The Xbox runs off a Windows 10 UI (User Interface) which makes the home screen more complex and harder to find things but very nice looking. Now let s look at the exclusive titles for the Xbox. Some titles include Halo, Gears of War, Titanfall, and Sunset Overdrive. These titles are huge but since the Xbox runs off of a windows 10 UI that means some games can also be played on the PC. ... It was man s turn to be part of the nature and not the other way around. The term picturesque or compared to a picture as Michael Woods defines it defines new characteristics of the art from this period. This period, An Age of Reason, An Age of Passion, had a dual nature rational, responsive to reason, but also anti rational, responsive to emotion. When it comes to Fragonard and his paintings, I have to mention that he is one of my favorite painters. Paintings like The Swing (1766), A Young Girl Reading (1776), The Study (1769), The Lover Crowned (1771 73), The Meeting (1771 73) and so many more hold a special magic for me. Every time I look at his paintings, it is like looking at a magic world. It is more like a dream world, or like an old fashioned story that never loses its charm for a child s ears. Because of Fragonard s talent, I can also listen to his magic stories: a stolen kiss, a flirtation giggle, the sound of the wind browsing through a lovely garden with a magic swing. From this period, although not a Rococo artist, we have to mention Jean Baptiste Chardin (1699 1779). While his contemporaries painted their high style works of the upstairs aristocratic life, Chardin painted the downstairs (Stewart et. al., 160): kitchen or pantry copper pots, earthenware jugs, and raw food. ... • 24. Trauma From Intimate Partner Violence Essay Stress within the family spreads to stress among other family members. Children from infancy to adolescence absorb surrounding behaviors as their brain continues to develop, influencing potential negative behaviors in their adulthood (Osofsky, et al., 2004). Trauma from intimate partner violence could affect an infant more than an adult for reasons of dependence and periods of critical brain development which may alter brain functions (Randell, Bledsoe, Shroff, Pierce, 2011). The parents, or intimate partners, are often viewed by children as strong standing role models. In the eyes of a child, these role models are seen as their idols, by seeing their idol in a constant state of weakness impacts their personal understanding of the world and their potential role in it. Parental conflict causes distress in children as the conflict could pose a direct threat to the child s personal safety (Martinez Torteya, Bogat, Eye, Levendosky, 2009). Although, not every act of conflict results in negative behavior of the offspring, every relationship has periods of disagreement (Dejonghe, Bogat, Levendosky, Eye, Davidson, 2005). Influences which may dictate negative consequential behavior in children are the frequency, intensity, and subject of conflict (Anderson Bang, 2011; Dejonghe, Bogat, Levendosky, Eye, Davidson, 2005; Lohman, Neppl, Senia, Schofield, 2013; Martinez Torteya, Bogat, Eye, Levendosky, 2009). Getting up in front of many peers, friends, advisors, and role models can intimidate, frighten, or discourage us in many different ways. The fear that others will judge or think less of us is scary and can be a gigantic blow to our pride. Often times, feelings of anxiety join the scene, making the situation as terrible as it can possibly be. Many of these feelings that have been mentioned contribute to the reason why humans like to stay in their comfort zones and do the things that they have always done, for fear that people may judge them, or they might fail. Another common fear that people have is dying. • 28. The Negative Consequences of Discipline One of the fundamental responsibilities of schools is to keep its students and teachers safe from harm and violence. Over the years, this has meant applying zero tolerance policies, which have encouraged and led to overcriminalization and the over intervention of the juvenile justice system. This correlation between zero tolerance measures and the justice system has been termed school to prison pipeline . Zero tolerance has, for the most part, worked; but do we like how it has worked? Although this policy has some benefits, its biggest flaw is that it is disproportionately applied to minorities, a trend that is largely reflected and reinforced in policies. From a legal perspective, many questions are raised as to the constitutionality of applying punitive disciplinary measures to students, seeing that expulsions and suspensions prohibit and limit student access to education. Consequently, micro level disciplinary alternatives have been developed, which aim to rehabilitate offenders rather than punish them. These alternatives offer a balance between discipline and the risk of overcriminalization, and include counseling, anger management sessions, victim offender mediation, and peer judiciaries. One central question that is raised throughout this discussion is the objective of the discipline; whether disciplinary measures should be used to punish or embarrass students, or whether it needs to reinforce and teach them why their behavior is wrong. This then relates to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The novel contains both the frame narrator, an anonymous member of the Nellie , representing the dominant society, and more importantly the primary narrator, Marlow, who too, is a product of the dominant society. For the novel s narrator, Marlow, the journey up the Congo River to the heart of darkness is reminiscent of Guido s journey into hell in Dante s Inferno, with these literary allusion always present, through forms of intense imagery. Darkness is used throughout the novel to symbolize savagery, death and the unknown. Marlow s observation is reinforced when London is described as a brooding gloom . In thisinstance the physical description of the city serves to reinforce Marlow s theory, and refute the earlier judgments of the frame narrator. Marlow tells of his quest for employment, that is, an unnamed city in Brussels, the sepulchral city that he visits to sign his contract. Conrad uses much death imagery to describe the physical appearance of the city. He describes it: as having the appearance of a well kept alley in a cemetery . Marlow travels to the dead centre of the city. He observes grass sprouting between the stones just as grass sprouts between tombstones. This environmental imagery is symbolic of the hypocrisy that Marlow Witnesses, the exploitation that forms the basis of the company and the universality of death. All three interpretations of the applicability of the imagery are reasonable however, the death imagery also links to Marlow s apprehension. Blanding s Turtle Populations By comparing the observed heterozygosity of two Blanding s turtle populations, it was determined that Area 1 had significantly greater observed heterozygosity than Area 2. The lower observed heterozygosity found in Area 2 may have been caused by the founder effect, resulting in a loss of genetic variation. The founder effect occurs when a new population is established by a small group of migrants from a larger population. The founder effect involves a random sampling of alleles during the reproduction of consecutive generations; when a small population is isolated, it may amplify the loss of genetic variation as individuals may become increasingly genotypically similar after each subsequent generation. Eventually, the alleles may become fixed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Population bottlenecks occur when a population undergoes a large reduction in size as a result of environmental events or human activities. As a result, genetic variation may decrease as certain alleles may be over presented, under presented, or completely absent. Consequently, the genetic variation may continue to decline throughout subsequent generations as smaller populations, with less genetic diversity, sexually reproduce, passing on a limited amount of genes to future offspring. Furthermore, heterozygosity in these populations may decrease as a result of inbreeding. Inbreeding occurs when two closely related individuals reproduce; inbreeding may cause the accumulation of homozygous recessive genes and a decrease in genetic variation. Additionally, infrequently occurring alleles, rather than common alleles, may face a greater chance of being lost, which may further decrease the level of genetic diversity. As the population continues to decline, the genetic drift may be intensified as a result of increasing genetic limitations. Similarly, Rubin et al. (2001) compared smaller, isolated populations of Blanding s turtles found in the Greater Chicago area to larger populations found in Michigan, Nova Scotia and Wisconsin, and determined, by using amplified polymorphic DNA, that the smaller populations had a loss of genetic variation in comparison to the ... The scarcity of organ donations in America is the main reason there is a sudden diversion of possible source of organs. Beginning with donations of organs from cadaver to living donors, different strategies sprung just to reduce the said shortage; as a result of this quest, sale and paid organs is one of the approaches that gathered too much attention from the public. The controversy of paid organ donations entered the limelight when the state of Wisconsin offered incentives to the living donors. This law, which was created in the year 2004, grants tax deduction and repayment of donation expenses such as travel cost and lost earnings. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, it also violates human dignity because it treats the organs and human body parts as commodities. Not to mention the fact that such action weakens and demoted altruism. However, the real picture of compensated organ donations is actually the opposite of unethical and self interest ; it promotes life and therefore regarded as a good and moral deed. Organ Donation s Supply and Demand Knowing the rate of supply and demand of organ donation helps in establishing a clear background about the issue. For instance, Monti (2009) explained the reality of supply and demand of kidneys. The supply of this organ coming from deceased and altruistic donors are not enough to support the demand of those individuals who are in need. Approximately there are 73,000 people who wait for kidney donations and 18 of those who are in the wait list will die by tomorrow. Accordingly, the list is being added by 6,000 individuals every year. An individual has to wait for five years before he/she can get an organ donation. The facts and figures presented by Monti shows that there is a big gap between the supply and demand of organ donations . The Center for Bioethics (2004) gave supplementary details on the issue of organ shortage. In their article ethics of organ transplantation they said that United Network for Organ Sharing or UNOS keeps a comprehensive figure on the present status of people who need organ transplants and presently there more than ... Para hydroxyacetophenone formed intermolecular hydrogen bonds with its carbonyl and hydroxyl group. P hydroxyacetophenone was more polar, so it travelled a shorter distance up TLC plate due to its many interactions with polar silica gel. Polar compounds have stronger dipole dipole interactions which require more energy and higher temperatures to melt, accounting for p hydroxyacetophenone s high melting point. Unknown #16 contained the compounds acetaminophen, caffeine, and acetylsalicylic acid. The distances acetylsalicylic acid and ibuprofen travelled along the silica gel plate were very similar, but since the Rf value of the unknown was closer to acetylsalicylic acid than to ibuprofen, it was determined that acetylsalicylic acid was one of the unknown compounds. Since ibuprofen and acetylsalicylic acid travelled the greatest distance up the TLC plate, they had the least amount of attraction to the silica gel plate, making them the least polar solutes.
