American Culture And Adapting Customs Of Other Nations
American Culture and Adapting to Customs of Other Nations When asked on what makes someone
truly American, the answer you usually get is freedom, patriotism and security. Culture, defined by the
mannerism of what a person does, cannot be condensed into a simple phrase or quality. In the past,
other cultures such as the African and Native Americans were viewed as a nuisance to achieving
Uniformity as an American Country, and were sought out and assimilated to try to fit in with the norm
of society. Heritage and tradition from other countries should remain the same, and instead of
conforming, the American culture can adapt other cultures to the American Ideology. Cultural
adaptation is the catalyst for innovation and originality, avoiding conflict, and promoting the culture of
the American Way. Diversity arises and achieves a different result, one that can be beneficial to those
around them. Examples of this lies in how many of the world s leading experts derive from different
nationalities and cultures, but that expertise also leads to further and further development of
innovation. Zitkala Sa demonstrates on how the mother taught beadwork and required of me, [the
main character], original designs for my lessons, for the original designs symbolize her culture and
how it could be beneficial to herself and the mother can also applied to the idea of diverse cultures to
one culture. One Example of cultural originality is when my father worked as a supervisor for a

Evaluating Kuhn´s Theory of Scientific Development Essay
Introduction
The scientific revolution started in the 16th and 17th century with development of the scientific
theories (Hatch, n.d.). These Scientific theories are detailed explanation of some aspect of the natural
world, based on knowledge that has been repeatedly duplicated through observation and experimental
procedures. The understanding or the attempt to understand the human s perspective of the world
through scientific theories is the birth to the philosophy of science (Okasha, 2002). Several
perspectives of scientific theories have been postulated by many on the history and philosophy of
science. One of such is the Kuhn theory of science development postulated by Thomas Kuhn. His
theory brought about a new perspective where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each paradigm starts as a normal science which goes through consensus verification by the science
community through scientific analysis, constructive criticism and scientific induction. Kuhn view is
clearly illustrated in his book the structure of scientific revolution. He traced the origin of his thesis to
a moment in 1947 when he was working toward a doctorate in physics at Harvard. James B. Conant,
the chemist who was the president of the university, had asked him to teach a class in science for
undergraduates majoring in the humanities (The Guardian, 2012). The lecture at the time was on the
history and development of science. While understudying Aristotle s Physics, he realized how his
concepts of motion were different from Newton s concepts of motion and matter.
Thomas Kuhn in his scientific model breaks down the history of development of science into three
stages which include normal of science, accumulation of anomaly and then the paradigm shift (Kuhn,
1996). The normal period of science starts with the creation of an accepted boundary for scientific
findings by the science community called the paradigm. This paradigm provides objective tools used
by scientist to solve scientific problem thereby creating theories that fit within the boundaries.
Following this is the period of natural testing of the paradigm and expanding the paradigm boundaries

Fiduciary Relationships In Texas
There are some business relationships in Texas, and elsewhere, which may impose legal requirements
of care and loyalty. These requirements may be referred to as a fiduciary duty. According to the
Cornell University Law School s Legal Information Institute, a fiduciary duty is a legal responsibility
to act solely in the interests of another person, group or business. Failing to uphold these duties may
be considered a breach of your fiduciary duties, which may lead to a business dispute. There are
numerous examples of fiduciary relationships. For example, an investment manager might owe a
fiduciary duty to the participants in a pension plan. As a fiduciary, or someone who owes such a duty,
you make take legal title to certain assets. However,

The Descent of Dick Diver in Fitzgerald s Tender is the...
The Descent of Dick Diver in Tender is the Night
Tender is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald chronicles Dick Diver s long descent (or dying fall, [Letters
310]) to ruin at the hands of women. Diver, the novel s protagonist and antagonist, seeks to overthrow
feminine power. Dick needs to control the women in his life. To him, women want to be dependent;
they are weak, lost souls who need the guidance only a man can give. In turn, women are parasites
who feed on him and ultimately destroy his genius.
Before Diver becomes involved with woman, he is a Rhodes Scholar and a promising young
Psychiatrist. By the end of the novel he is a middle aged drunk chasing young women. Dick Diver,
flaw credible, possesses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead, Diver must increasingly restate the universe for her , as part of her treatment. Nicole follows
Dick walking on her hands . She is after all one to whom nothing need be explained and one to whom
nothing could be explained . When the dying Mr. Warren requests to see his daughter, Diver claims
she is not strong enough to decide the matter for herself (249). Diver consults Franz but does not allow
Nicole a say in the situation. Thus, Diver exhibits his controlling character in maintaining the right to
make his wife s decisions for her. Nicole has no identity of her own: she identifies herself with Dick
and is so dependent on him that she almost wants to be him. So much so that she even wants to
become a writer like him: I want to be a fine person like you, Dick, I would study medicine. When
Diver once describes his love for Nicole, he calls it a wild submergence of soul, a dipping of all colors
into an obscuring dye. There is little doubt that he believes Nicole is entirely to blame for the loss of
his youthful personality. Nicole sucked the life out of him: all his energy is diverted to her needs and
when she has used him enough, she abandons him for another man. She is the cause of his marked
degeneration; she is, after all, a woman whose wealth and mental instability stunt his

The Goal Of Cultural Studies Scholars, Per Stuart Hall,
The goal of Cultural Studies scholars, per Stuart Hall, is to ...understand the ensemble of relations
between the economic, political, cultural, ideological, and social spheres ( The Last Interview ). Hall
did not initially believe that Cultural Studies was an autonomous sphere. However, at the time of The
Last Interview , Hall acknowledged that culture had largely become an autonomous spectre within the
field which, according to him, was never supposed to happen. Nonetheless, despite the difference
between the Cultural Studies of Hall s time and the Cultural Studies of now, one thing is for certain
the enterprise is incomplete ( The Last Interview ).

In other words, conjunctural analysis requires one to identify the complexities of specific historical
events rather than view history as one continuous process. Conjunctural analysis involves a
comparison between the similarities and differences of specific conjunctures, as well as what creates
and resolves/fails to resolve them. One needs knowledge of other subordinate concepts to understand
conjunctures. Thus, conjunctural analysis builds on itself. Hall believed that this type of analysis was
important because it could capture emergent histories as they came into fruition. He says, for example,
that the conjunctural analysis conducted in Policing the Crisis was an accurate predictor of the Liberal
Authoritarianism that was to take place under Margaret Thatcher. Hall attributes Antonio Gramsci and
Louis Althusser with the notion of conjunctural analysis and references each author throughout
Policing the Crisis which, in his opinion, is the first example of a distinctly English conjunctural
analysis.
In Policing the Crisis, Hall seeks to identify the driving forces behind the moral panic of 1970 s
Britain. He is specifically concerned with the conjuncture between the August 15, 1972 murder of
Arthur Hills and the subsequent reaction to an apparent increase in mugging . Hall says that there was
a social reaction to mugging which preceded the actual mugging and murder of Arthur Hills (Hall
182). The

My Bullring walking tour text, creates an authoritative tone through the use of paralinguistics to give a
sense of movement and guidance. Primarily aimed at new visitors. I have structured my piece to leave
the audience with a sense of knowing Selfridges. The primary purpose of my text is to encourage
people to go and visit the Bullring. Evidence of this is; When we come off of the bridge we are
immediately immersed in the hustle and bustle of Selfridges. The sibilance within the syndetic pair
hustle and bustle pat Ray s the idea of people constantly walking past therefore bringing to light the
popularity of the Bullring. This is empathise by the iambic pentameter due to it mimicking natural

Children Who Commit Violent Crimes
For many years the question of whether or not children were capable of having the same mental
understanding as adults when it comes to crimes they commit. There are so many arguments from
both sides and whether or not children who commit violent crimes should be tried in a court of law as
adults. Personally, as a mother of two boys and pregnant with a third child I want to believe that if my
child does commit a crime under the age of adulthood that they would be given a chance to try and be
rehabilitated. I believe that children do not have the mental capacity to be housed in the same facility
as adults. They are not mature enough, they will come out with more problems, and lastly these are
children and we as adults are responsible for teaching them right from wrong so how can we ship
them off with adults the minute they do something wrong. I, therefore, believe that children who
commit violent crimes should not be tried as adults. The first juvenile court was established in
Chicago in 1899. The U.S. made this possible for two reasons. The first being that they believed that
children lacked the maturity level to take responsibility as adults. Second their character hadn t fully
developed so they believed that they ca be rehabilitated. The first state to impose a lower age for
juveniles to be tried as adults was Michigan in 1997. This gave them the choice of sending children to
adult court. For the next five years many states followed this example. As of now this issue

at three different hotels, meeting orphanage boys and many unfamiliar foods on the agenda. The first

Reflection Of Tuesdays With Morrie
Tuesdays with Morrie, is a story of relationship between a professor and a student. They have Tuesday
discussion about life and the lessons that can be learned. Since Morrie has become ill, Mitch has
returned to better understand his generation. And the problems that he faces each day. Each Tuesday
they discuss different topics that have their own life lessons attached to them. These attachments can
be related to the chapters of the textbook. They talk about relationships with others and how to
manage certain situations in the best ways. Through this paper, I will be making connections between
Tuesdays with Morrie and the REVEL textbook. The First Tuesday: We Talk About the World, Morrie
and Mitch have a discussion about the world. Morrie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the visit Morrie writes back to letters that has been sent to him after a Nightline he was featured
on (pg.85). This is an example of Communication as Interaction from Chapter 1. These shows Morrie
interacting with those through a letter and giving feedback about their lives and situations. The Sixth
Tuesday: We Talk About Emotions, Morrie and Mitch discuss how emotions can affect your life and
how we should allow emotions to overcome us. But also be able to step away from the emotion. The
quote by Morrie, Take any emotion love for a woman, or grief for a loved one. If you hold back on the
emotions you don t allow yourself to go all the way through the them you can never get to being
detached, you re too busy being afraid (p. 103 104). This is telling that if you don t let yourself feel the
whole emotion, you won t be able to detach from the emotion. This an example of Words Create
Perceptions from Chapter 6. Which goes along the lines of Psychologist Albert Ellis, on how we
create moods and emotional states with words is how we label feelings. Another part of this Tuesday
is when they are talking about is how he wants to feel when he dies. Morrie says, I want to die
serenely. Peacefully. Not like what I just happened. This is my moment. I don t want to leave the
world in a state of fright. I want to know what s happening, accept it, get to a peaceful place, and let
go. Do you understand? I

whose parents decide to hide a jew in their basement. While the atrocities the Germans would do was
not the main focus of the book it does show at points just how corrupt the government was and ow
that affected the people. A good example of this was towards the middle of the book where Liesel s

hiding away, only to find out that they were not going to get searched. However because of how they
sent him off they could not just go find Max and hide him again, leading Max to be caught and sent to
a concentration camp. When Liesle saw him walking down the street in a parade latter in the book,
knowing he will be heading to one of the camps she tries to talk to him one last time, but due to how
everyone perceived and treated the jews and those who help them she ended up getting thrown aside

Oral Tradition And Oral Traditions
Imagine being able to tell stories for generations to come without ever having to write down a single
word. Oral tradition is used to pass stories down from generation to generation through different forms
of communication without any writing system. Oral tradition stories are told by word of mouth,
riddles, storytelling, and songs. It cannot be changed although the narrator might embellish it. Oral
tradition is how Africans perceived the past. The significance of oral Tradition is due to the stories
holding so much information and knowledge. Oral tradition contributed to understanding pre colonial
history because the pre colonial Africa was influenced by two major movements which are the
expansion of islam and the dispersion of the bantu. Oral tradition gave us the perspective as to why the
expansion and dispersion took place. Oral tradition has its strengths and weaknesses. A strength of oral
tradition is that it is being told from word of mouth and more people will listen to a good storyteller
than to go read a book about the history. However, a weakness of oral tradition is that many of the
stories get forgotten, left out, or embellished. With each re telling the story gets further and further
away from the original. Oral tradition is a primary way of conveying culture and is a way of life in
African history.
Oral traditions are historical traditions passed down by word of mouth from one generation to another
without written instruction. Oral tradition was used during

Supernova Persuasive Essay
A possible external threat from space that could result in the extinction of human life on Earth is a
supernova. A supernova is an explosion of a star in the universe. There are more than a hundred billion
stars in our milky way galaxy (226). Most of the star explosions happen fairly far away from our solar
system. However, because our sun orbits the galaxy we will be neighbouring different sets of stars at
different points in time. Sometimes we are even just tens of light years away from a supernova (226).
The closer you are to a supernova the most damage will be done. When supernovae happen there are

lead to mass extinctions (226). Apart from

Abstract
Noise is responsible for hidden and or obvious damages. Hearing loss and tinnitus greatly depend on
the level of sound (dB) and duration of sound . Short duration sound of decent intensity primarily a

ethnic groups with the two main ethnic groups known as the Dinka (majority 38.5%) and the Nuer

Sudanese citizens are currently internally displaced and a further 360 thousand, who have fled to

music because it s so beautiful and when they sing it comes from the heart. I also would change the
amount of time each performer had because you could just tell that each of them could play for hours
and hours. They one thing I wouldn t change would be the number of people that come from all
around to enjoy food, family and the music.
I look forward to this event all year because not only do I get to spend time with family and friends
but I get to experience something that some people never do and it s all for a great cause that

The Bastard Out Of Carolina Analysis
The film The Bastard out of Carolina tells the story of Ruth Anne Boatwright, called Bone (Huston,
1996). Bone is born out of wedlock in the 1950 s, a time when being illegitimate is a serious stigma.
Bone s birth certificate declares her illegitimate, which marks her for life as an outcast. Her mother,
Anney, 15 years old at the time of Bone s birth, soon marries a good, hardworking man named Lyle
and has another daughter. However, Lyle dies in a car accident. Anney then marries Glen, who treats
Bone well at first and takes her out to do fun things. But when her brother dies at birth, Glen begins to
beat her and molest her regularly. Bone s life becomes a living nightmare as she endures constant
sexual and physical abuse. When her aunt spots the abuse, she tells Bone s uncles, who beat Glen
nearly to death. Bone and her mother, however, continue to return to Glen each time Glen promises
not to abuse Bone again. The film ends with Bone freeing herself from Glen, but watching her mother
leave with him. Her mother s last act of love is to give Bone a new birth certificate without the
stigmatizing illegitimate stamped across it. Bone s final words in the film are of love for her ... Show

Although Bone is severely abused by Glen with her mother as a silent partner, Bone does not blame
them or stop protecting them. The family bond between Bone and Glen, formed in the first few years
of Anney and Glen s marriage, is changed but not broken by the abuse (Huston, 2016). Eventually,
Bone does want to be free of the abuse, but she continues to protect Glen, possibly from the common
tendency among children to not want anyone they love to get in trouble . Additionally, she forgives her
mother for abandoning her. Her final words indicate that she perceives the trauma as normal and her
mother s actions of staying with an abusive man as even

Sonnet 130 Analysis
Sonnet Analysis Sonnet 130 by William Shakespeare
I will be writing about Sonnet 130 that was written in 1609 by William Shakespeare. The theme of this
sonnet is romance, but it isn t the conventional love poem were you praise your mistress and point out
to the readers all the ways in which she is perfect and the best. In this sonnet we could see that beauty
isn t a rush when you talk about love and how does Shakespeare compares her mistress appearance to
things which she isn t, this means her mistress isn t the like a Super model however he loves her
imperfections because those are the ones which make her a human.
In the first quatrain of the sonnet we could see more clearly what I told above.
My mistress eyes are nothing like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rhyme scheme is typical of a sonnet, it has an (abab, cdcd, efef, gg) 14 line rhyme structure , this
type of rhyme helps us understand better the poem and enjoy it more, as it gives an more interesting
and organize effect. Shakespeare uses hyperbole, metaphors and comparisons as literary devices to
develop the point we want to give on this sonnet, as the same time this literacy devices create a more
interesting effect, as it gives the reader the opportunity to be more open minded and have better
images of what the speaker is talking about, and don t have an abstract image of it.
In conclusion, we can see how Shakespeare doesn t use false comparisons, he avoids the unrealistic
adjectives which could be find in other sonnets of authors describing how perfect her mistress is, he
instead prefers to give the reader a more honest description about the women he loves. He describes
all her imperfections but he still loves her just the way she

Corruption and Law Enforcement
Corruption has always been a danger to law enforcement, just as it has been a danger to all of mankind
since the beginning of time. Since the very first police agency was formed in the 1800s, corruption has
been widespread. The 19th century was an era in which politics played a very large role in police
forces. Various political parties essentially had some police departments in their pockets, and as long
as officers served to further those political parties agendas, the officers continued employment was
guaranteed. Since politicians have not always been known for being straight laced, one can easily see
how corruption within police departments became prevalent. Since officers were not serving the
people, but rather the political elite, their motives were constantly in question. It was not long before
politicians began employing police officers to overlook and even protect their illicit activities.
Through this practice, officers began to see the potential monetary and political benefits of allowing
and participating in certain illegal actions. Even after the establishment of countermeasures such as
police commissions, civil service exams, and legislative changes, corruption remained rampant. This
corruption was perhaps best exemplified by none other than the actions of many officers within the
Rampart Division of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Memory Retention Study
Various Forms of Memory Retention Techniques and
My Personal Study Habits
Various memory retention techniques have been identified throughout the centuries. Several sources
have explained why these techniques should be used and of their effectiveness. More recently, a 2009
report was released by Association for Psychological Science, where learning techniques were
analyzed and their effectiveness explained. Some of the techniques from this report will be mentioned,
but the focus is more on how each that are presented relate to my own personal experience towards.
Memory Retention Techniques

as needed. Of the various means, some are effective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within the scope of studying high school and college level subject areas, my choices among the
techniques would be represented in the methods which are described within state dependent memory
and within order effects. Consequently, rarely is the material that is studied grouped into certain
categories beyond how it is originally presented, nor is the material digested with the use of additional
aids. The most preferred methods seem to relate more with my state of consciousness. When studying
or preparing prior to a test, most definitely I will have consumed some form of caffeine. Although
wishing to be well rested, my time management and lifestyle does not always allow for this luxury.
While studying, the preference is to be within a specific environment, avoiding too many external
distractions. Even so, listening to my favorite music through my headphones, lifts my mood and
provides me the focus needed. Lastly, I enjoy being quizzed with virtual flashcards while walking
outdoors, which combines order effects technique with a state dependent method. Unfortunately, it
may not be the purest form of a state dependent method, since for example, exams are not given while
walking through a park.
Effectiveness of my personal study habits. Without controls and specific conditions, that appear
crucial to support effectiveness with any of these retention methods, it is hard to assert my preferred
choice as effective or ineffective with learning in general. With confidence, I can state that I succeeded
to achieve my desired outcome. I have been maintaining an A average majority of my educational
career. I have experienced considerable success in more recent years when I have incorporated several
of techniques mentioned above.

Cognitive Neuroscience Personal Statement
Growing up I was always underestimated by the people around me. It wasn t until late highschool
until I started doing well in school, which is where my motivation to prove people wrong fueled my
efforts to succeed. College was when I started to take pride in my achievements. I started with a major
in Psychology, where courses like Cognition, Biopsychology and Cognitive Neuroscience really
caught my attention and fascinated me. Cognitive Neuroscience was one of my favorite courses
because we reviewed case studies of patients with neurological damage to see how brain mechanisms
underlying cognition were altered. I ll never forget learning about how damage to Broca s Area
impacted generation of articulate speech. I was so interested in learning about higher cognitive
processes such as pattern recognition, memory and consciousness. Classes like these led into picking
up an additional major in Cognitive Science, which has given me perspective on human perception,
thinking and learning. The diversity in criteria in the Cognitive Science program caused me to become

TATA NANO SINGUR CASE
INTRODUCTION:
Tata Motors announced in 2006, that the Nano would be manufactured in Singur, West Bengal, helped
in part by a forced acquisition and reuse of farmland by the West Bengal state government to entice
Tata to build there. In May 2006, the West Bengal Government decided to acquire 997 acres (initially

Lack of openness in the workplace is very costly. Design engineers who say nothing about the
problem they cannot solve run the risk that, when they do solve it, they will require other key parts of
the design to be changed. And by that time others have made costly investments in tooling that must
now be scrapped, compounding costs and delays. In one of the cases we studied, the Epsilon new car
design project at a leading auto maker, major cost savings were achieved (over $60 million) through
their ability to confront and change this powerful pattern of secretiveness, a long standing part of their
workplace culture. They recognized that this tacit norm was based on deeper lying assumptions
(shared by all of them) about what is expected from a good design engineer and that those mental
models were reinforced by the behavior of managers who consistently chastised and humiliated
engineers who brought up unresolved problems. So, naturally they concealed their problems, reporting
nothing, until they were close to a solution. During the Epsilon change process, Epsilon s top
managers learned to see how their own behavior was creating results they did not want and they
learned how to behave differently and get better results both in terms of cost savings and in the
satisfaction they all derived from their work. With less blaming, there was more trust, openness, and

Introduction
The old generation of electrical power grid has taken care of our needs in the past. However, as our
world progress technologically, so do the expectations from different infrastructures around us. Smart
grid is an initiative to completely restructure the electrical power grid to meet the current and future
requirements of its clients. Upgrading our electrical power grid could bring novel security
vulnerabilities into the system. Thus, security is one of the key parts in smart grid technology. Smart
grid technology also puts more reliability demands on WAN (wide area network) infrastructures. [1]
A smart grid is an intelligent electricity network that integrates the actions of all users connected to it
and makes use of innovative information, control, and communication technologies to save energy, cut
cost, and raise reliability and transparency. The smart grid is an upgrade to the current electrical power
structure. Meaning, on top of the functionality of our existing power system, it has upgraded with
some novel specifications. These new features adds more vulnerability to the system. [2]
Smart grid is mainly composed of six basic systems: power generation system, distribution system,
transmission network, data management and processing system, smart metering system, and customer
information system. The network architecture of smart grid

The Rise And Fall Of Italian Fascism
Introduction.
The rise and fall of Italian Fascism is important to the history of modern Italy because of its lasting
influence. It has shaped and affected many areas of Italian society, such as its economy, politics, and
social communication. Negative views toward the government and high levels of unemployment
preceding this time led to the rise in right wing politics and Fascism has made lasting impacts on the
right wing parties still in existence today. This literature review will discuss the rise and fall of fascism
in Italy through Adrian Lyttelton s The Seizure of Power; Fascism in Italy, 1919 1929, the radical right
wing as a consequence of fascism through Franco Farreresi s Threats to Democracy: The Radical
Right in Italy after the War, and the lasting impact of the fascist political era on contemporary Italian
society up until the late 1960 s through Samuel Barnes 1972 study on The Legacy of Fascism:

HIPAA Compliance Essay
HIPAA Compliance
If you are in the healthcare industry, you have probably heard some rumblings about the Health
Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, coolly referred to as HIPAA. The word is your
medical practice will have to be HIPAA compliant by April 2003, but you re not exactly sure what this
act mandates or how to accomplish it. In very basic terms, HIPAA has two primary components to
which hospitals, health plans, healthcare clearinghouses, and healthcare providers must conform: 1)
Administrative simplification, which calls for use of the same computer language industry wide; 2)
Privacy protection, which requires healthcare providers to take reasonable measures to protect patients
written, oral, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
HIPAA doesn?t necessarily prescribe the solutions, but it does require physicians to look at all of the
ways that they use and access data today and determine whether that?s reasonable or not. to help you
begin your HIPAA compliance process, following are some practical ideas for rethinking how you
maintain and use patient information in your office. Appoint one or two staff members (depending on
the size of your office) to review the HIPAA act, determine the changes your practice needs to make,
and decide if you?ll need outside help. To keep this project manageable, do not wait until the last
minute. Remember: most of the healthcare industry will have to be HIPAA compliant by April 14,
2003. Furthermore, compliance is not optional. Those found in violation of the act will be penalized:
Civil penalties range up to $25,000 per violation of each standard. Criminal penalties range up to
$250,000 in fines and/or up to 10 years in prison. 3
An important part of HIPAA is the minimum use standard, which mandates that healthcare providers
use and disclose patient information in ways that are minimally necessary to accomplish the task. For
example, a billing clerk does not need access to a patient?s entire medical history to bill for a service
rendered, says Hole Curry. Therefore, you may want to divide patient files into sections, having an
office policy that clearly states who may access each section. Consider converting to pocket style
classification folders,

  • 2. American Culture And Adapting Customs Of Other Nations American Culture and Adapting to Customs of Other Nations When asked on what makes someone truly American, the answer you usually get is freedom, patriotism and security. Culture, defined by the mannerism of what a person does, cannot be condensed into a simple phrase or quality. In the past, other cultures such as the African and Native Americans were viewed as a nuisance to achieving Uniformity as an American Country, and were sought out and assimilated to try to fit in with the norm of society. Heritage and tradition from other countries should remain the same, and instead of conforming, the American culture can adapt other cultures to the American Ideology. Cultural adaptation is the catalyst for innovation and originality, avoiding conflict, and promoting the culture of the American Way. Diversity arises and achieves a different result, one that can be beneficial to those around them. Examples of this lies in how many of the world s leading experts derive from different nationalities and cultures, but that expertise also leads to further and further development of innovation. Zitkala Sa demonstrates on how the mother taught beadwork and required of me, [the main character], original designs for my lessons, for the original designs symbolize her culture and how it could be beneficial to herself and the mother can also applied to the idea of diverse cultures to one culture. One Example of cultural originality is when my father worked as a supervisor for a hardware ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Evaluating Kuhn´s Theory of Scientific Development Essay Introduction The scientific revolution started in the 16th and 17th century with development of the scientific theories (Hatch, n.d.). These Scientific theories are detailed explanation of some aspect of the natural world, based on knowledge that has been repeatedly duplicated through observation and experimental procedures. The understanding or the attempt to understand the human s perspective of the world through scientific theories is the birth to the philosophy of science (Okasha, 2002). Several perspectives of scientific theories have been postulated by many on the history and philosophy of science. One of such is the Kuhn theory of science development postulated by Thomas Kuhn. His theory brought about a new perspective where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each paradigm starts as a normal science which goes through consensus verification by the science community through scientific analysis, constructive criticism and scientific induction. Kuhn view is clearly illustrated in his book the structure of scientific revolution. He traced the origin of his thesis to a moment in 1947 when he was working toward a doctorate in physics at Harvard. James B. Conant, the chemist who was the president of the university, had asked him to teach a class in science for undergraduates majoring in the humanities (The Guardian, 2012). The lecture at the time was on the history and development of science. While understudying Aristotle s Physics, he realized how his concepts of motion were different from Newton s concepts of motion and matter. Thomas Kuhn in his scientific model breaks down the history of development of science into three stages which include normal of science, accumulation of anomaly and then the paradigm shift (Kuhn, 1996). The normal period of science starts with the creation of an accepted boundary for scientific findings by the science community called the paradigm. This paradigm provides objective tools used by scientist to solve scientific problem thereby creating theories that fit within the boundaries. Following this is the period of natural testing of the paradigm and expanding the paradigm boundaries to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These requirements may be referred to as a fiduciary duty. According to the Cornell University Law School s Legal Information Institute, a fiduciary duty is a legal responsibility to act solely in the interests of another person, group or business. Failing to uphold these duties may be considered a breach of your fiduciary duties, which may lead to a business dispute. There are numerous examples of fiduciary relationships. For example, an investment manager might owe a fiduciary duty to the participants in a pension plan. As a fiduciary, or someone who owes such a duty, you make take legal title to certain assets. • 5. The Descent of Dick Diver in Fitzgerald s Tender is the... The Descent of Dick Diver in Tender is the Night Tender is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald chronicles Dick Diver s long descent (or dying fall, [Letters 310]) to ruin at the hands of women. Diver, the novel s protagonist and antagonist, seeks to overthrow feminine power. Dick needs to control the women in his life. To him, women want to be dependent; they are weak, lost souls who need the guidance only a man can give. In turn, women are parasites who feed on him and ultimately destroy his genius. Before Diver becomes involved with woman, he is a Rhodes Scholar and a promising young Psychiatrist. By the end of the novel he is a middle aged drunk chasing young women. Dick Diver, flaw credible, possesses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead, Diver must increasingly restate the universe for her , as part of her treatment. Nicole follows Dick walking on her hands . She is after all one to whom nothing need be explained and one to whom nothing could be explained . When the dying Mr. Warren requests to see his daughter, Diver claims she is not strong enough to decide the matter for herself (249). Diver consults Franz but does not allow Nicole a say in the situation. Thus, Diver exhibits his controlling character in maintaining the right to make his wife s decisions for her. Nicole has no identity of her own: she identifies herself with Dick and is so dependent on him that she almost wants to be him. So much so that she even wants to become a writer like him: I want to be a fine person like you, Dick, I would study medicine. When Diver once describes his love for Nicole, he calls it a wild submergence of soul, a dipping of all colors into an obscuring dye. There is little doubt that he believes Nicole is entirely to blame for the loss of his youthful personality. Nicole sucked the life out of him: all his energy is diverted to her needs and when she has used him enough, she abandons him for another man. She is the cause of his marked degeneration; she is, after all, a woman whose wealth and mental instability stunt his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Goal Of Cultural Studies Scholars, Per Stuart Hall, The goal of Cultural Studies scholars, per Stuart Hall, is to ...understand the ensemble of relations between the economic, political, cultural, ideological, and social spheres ( The Last Interview ). Hall did not initially believe that Cultural Studies was an autonomous sphere. However, at the time of The Last Interview , Hall acknowledged that culture had largely become an autonomous spectre within the field which, according to him, was never supposed to happen. Nonetheless, despite the difference between the Cultural Studies of Hall s time and the Cultural Studies of now, one thing is for certain the enterprise is incomplete ( The Last Interview ). Hall says that Policing the Crisis is a lot more political than the Cultural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In other words, conjunctural analysis requires one to identify the complexities of specific historical events rather than view history as one continuous process. Conjunctural analysis involves a comparison between the similarities and differences of specific conjunctures, as well as what creates and resolves/fails to resolve them. One needs knowledge of other subordinate concepts to understand conjunctures. Thus, conjunctural analysis builds on itself. Hall believed that this type of analysis was important because it could capture emergent histories as they came into fruition. He says, for example, that the conjunctural analysis conducted in Policing the Crisis was an accurate predictor of the Liberal Authoritarianism that was to take place under Margaret Thatcher. Hall attributes Antonio Gramsci and Louis Althusser with the notion of conjunctural analysis and references each author throughout Policing the Crisis which, in his opinion, is the first example of a distinctly English conjunctural analysis. In Policing the Crisis, Hall seeks to identify the driving forces behind the moral panic of 1970 s Britain. He is specifically concerned with the conjuncture between the August 15, 1972 murder of Arthur Hills and the subsequent reaction to an apparent increase in mugging . Hall says that there was a social reaction to mugging which preceded the actual mugging and murder of Arthur Hills (Hall 182). The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Children Who Commit Violent Crimes For many years the question of whether or not children were capable of having the same mental understanding as adults when it comes to crimes they commit. There are so many arguments from both sides and whether or not children who commit violent crimes should be tried in a court of law as adults. Personally, as a mother of two boys and pregnant with a third child I want to believe that if my child does commit a crime under the age of adulthood that they would be given a chance to try and be rehabilitated. I believe that children do not have the mental capacity to be housed in the same facility as adults. They are not mature enough, they will come out with more problems, and lastly these are children and we as adults are responsible for teaching them right from wrong so how can we ship them off with adults the minute they do something wrong. I, therefore, believe that children who commit violent crimes should not be tried as adults. The first juvenile court was established in Chicago in 1899. The U.S. made this possible for two reasons. The first being that they believed that children lacked the maturity level to take responsibility as adults. Second their character hadn t fully developed so they believed that they ca be rehabilitated. The first state to impose a lower age for juveniles to be tried as adults was Michigan in 1997. This gave them the choice of sending children to adult court. For the next five years many states followed this example. As of now this issue ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We had a group of 29 students and being in an airport with only Spanish speaking people was one of the most stressful places I ve ever been. I was a little worried this trip might not end well at the beginning, but our week had ziplining, swimming through caves, painting a school, visiting a rainforest, staying at three different hotels, meeting orphanage boys and many unfamiliar foods on the agenda. They have Tuesday discussion about life and the lessons that can be learned. Since Morrie has become ill, Mitch has returned to better understand his generation. And the problems that he faces each day. Each Tuesday they discuss different topics that have their own life lessons attached to them. These attachments can be related to the chapters of the textbook. They talk about relationships with others and how to manage certain situations in the best ways. This is an example of Communication as Interaction from Chapter 1. These shows Morrie interacting with those through a letter and giving feedback about their lives and situations. The Sixth Tuesday: We Talk About Emotions, Morrie and Mitch discuss how emotions can affect your life and how we should allow emotions to overcome us. But also be able to step away from the emotion. The quote by Morrie, Take any emotion love for a woman, or grief for a loved one. If you hold back on the emotions you don t allow yourself to go all the way through the them you can never get to being detached, you re too busy being afraid (p. 103 104). This is telling that if you don t let yourself feel the whole emotion, you won t be able to detach from the emotion. This an example of Words Create Perceptions from Chapter 6. Which goes along the lines of Psychologist Albert Ellis, on how we create moods and emotional states with words is how we label feelings. Another part of this Tuesday is when they are talking about is how he wants to feel when he dies. Morrie says, I want to die serenely. Peacefully. Not like what I just happened. This is my moment. I don t want to leave the world in a state of fright. I want to know what s happening, accept it, get to a peaceful place, and let go. Do you understand? I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Oral tradition gave us the perspective as to why the expansion and dispersion took place. Oral tradition has its strengths and weaknesses. A strength of oral tradition is that it is being told from word of mouth and more people will listen to a good storyteller than to go read a book about the history. However, a weakness of oral tradition is that many of the stories get forgotten, left out, or embellished. With each re telling the story gets further and further away from the original. Since the very first police agency was formed in the 1800s, corruption has been widespread. The 19th century was an era in which politics played a very large role in police forces. Various political parties essentially had some police departments in their pockets, and as long as officers served to further those political parties agendas, the officers continued employment was guaranteed. Since politicians have not always been known for being straight laced, one can easily see how corruption within police departments became prevalent. Since officers were not serving the people, but rather the political elite, their motives were constantly in question. It was not long before politicians began employing police officers to overlook and even protect their illicit activities. Through this practice, officers began to see the potential monetary and political benefits of allowing and participating in certain illegal actions. Even after the establishment of countermeasures such as police commissions, civil service exams, and legislative changes, corruption remained rampant.
