Gravimetric Analysis of a Soluble Sulfate
Abstract Gravimetric analysis describes the methods for finding the chemical constituent of analyte in
a solution through analytical chemistry. This method uses the mass of solid SO42 , with an unknown
quantity and quality, to qualitatively determine the makeup of the solid SO3 . Two separate
experiments with the initial compounds of BaCl2 and SO42 were put into solution to allow for the
BaSO4 precipitate to form. Through filtration and ignition of precipitate containing ashless papers, the
solid masses of BaSO4 were attained. With a gravimetric factor of 1:1, sample 1 resulted in the
formation of 0.5874g BaSO4 from 0.4004g of SO42 , while sample 2 resulted in the formation of
0.4073g BaSO4 from 0.3985g of SO42 . The two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Two samples of unknown #8 were taken and weighed at 0.4004g (Sample 1) and 0.3985g (Sample 2).
The two samples were placed into separate 400 mL beakers along with 200 mL of DI water containing
4 mL of 6M HCl. Two samples of the BaCl2.2H2O weighing 1.51g each were placed into separate
250 mL beakers and dissolved using 100 mL of DI water. 95 mL of each of the BaCl2.2H2O solutions
were added to the earlier mentioned 400 mL beakers containing the unknown #8 solutions, leaving
roughly 5 mL to later test completeness of precipitation of the sulfate ion. The newly added mixtures
were heated for 3 minutes and then were allowed to cool and settle for 10 minutes. The remaining 5
mL of BaCl2.2H2O solution was added to their respective unknown solutions to ensure precipitation
completeness of sulfate ions. Upon completeness, the two solutions were heated for 90 minutes at near
boiling temperatures. After the 90 minutes, the solutions were removed from the heat, cooled, covered
with parafilm and stored until the following week.
Procedure (III): Precipitations of Funnel and Filter Paper for Filtration This procedure is performed
for the purpose of separating and filtering the desired barium sulfate so to later determine the quantity
of sulfate within unknown #8. The two solutions prepared and digested previously were reheated to
near boiling temperatures. During the reheating process, 2

Sartre s No Exit
As stated earlier, man is an autonomous individual. Our freedom of choice determines what we make
of ourselves. In the duration of Sartre s play, No Exit, we are observed to three major characters
serving their afterlife in hell together. Inez, one of the major characters, serves her afterlife from
committing suicide with her lesbian lover concluding an affair with a woman s husband. Her actions,
in the play, overlook what is considered to be an important example of how we are completely in
control of our actions. By acting as Estelle s mirror , due to her personal admiration and obsession
with her appearance, Inez engages in an action in which she ultimately knew would not result in the
way she hoped for. Estelle, being a straight woman that is attracted to older ... Show more content on

However, our thought process that there might be the slightest chance that our situation will work for
the best, motivates us to move in that direction of choice. Take Christopher McCandless for example;
a graduate from Emory University as a top athlete and student with a bright future. Rather than taking
the safe route, his freedom of choice caused for him to embark on a journey in the Alaskan wilderness.
His bohemian actions furthermore, provoked a dramatic end to his journey as he died of starvation.
The importance of this example nonetheless, is the fact that we are aware that McCandless was in
complete control of his situation, but decided to use his freedom of choice to move in a direction in
which he thought he can succeed in. These findings articulate the work of Sartre and his central claim
on existentialism. Another example of how man is an autonomous individual comes from the thought
process of every high school senior; whether or not it is the right time to attend college. Given our
freedom of choice, we have the ability to pursue any career we aspire for with the thought process that
everything will work out as we hope

Bright Lines Identity
The novel Bright Lines tells the story of a Muslim family in the heart of New York and their trials and
tribulations as they face the assimilation of American culture. Throughout the story, the young
characters, Maya, El, and Charu are the most affected by this assimilation because they clash with
what their elders think is best. El is a particularly interesting character because he is the most affected
by the division of the two cultures he was raised in. The audience often sees El confused about the
way he feels about his body while at the same time he is suffering from visions that haunt him.
Growing up was very tough for El because he faced many obstacles from her parents being murdered
because of the war to her complete inability to connect to anyone on a truly deep level. This, along
with the diverse cultural roles in his life, has left his in many predicaments where she struggles with
who he is. His identity is something that he longs for but has yet to find. A major aspect of his identity
of which he struggles greatly with is his sexuality. Religion in the novel is an influential aspect of El s
life and his struggle with his sexuality. The emphasis placed on religion is a very important part of life,
especially in India. In the culture presented in the novel, religion, while not presented often, is a huge
aspect of life. It is seen dictating every interaction a person has. While El does not show any
attachment to a particular religion (despite the time she prays

Rod Stewart Forever Young Song Analysis
Forever Young. Two words with meaning beyond their miniscule size. Rod Stewart s 1980 s anthem
ignites a spark in one s mind to truly think deeper into the meaning of his decades old lyrics. Being
young is something that every person has to go through and I believe that through the experiences of
our youth we are able to grow not only in years but also in intellect, knowledge, and wisdom. By
growing and going through the hardships that we experience as young people, we are then in turn able
to give back to our children and future generations in helping them to grow and become better people.
This is the perfect song for any parent to dedicate to their children. It s about being there for your kids
and leading by example. Every parent wants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And when you finally fly away I ll be hoping that I served you well for all the wisdom of a lifetime no
one can ever tell but whatever road you choose I m right behind you, win or lose . Being a parent is
about being supportive. It s about unconditional love and overcoming the hard times to shed light on
the good times. Although we cannot give them everything, what we can do is try our best to give them
all we have, mentally, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Our children are the light of our lives
and without them our days would seem meaningless and minute. What Rod Stewart is trying to
capture in these lyrics is that no matter what happens in life and no matter how far away from home
our children may be, they will always be young in our hearts. At birth we see our children as tiny,
precious gifts of life and that image is the first snapshot we think of when we think of our children. No
matter how old they are, our children will always be our little babies. That s the message that Rod
Stewart is sharing with us, his children will always be the little boys and girls with scrapped elbows
and dirty hands. They will always be the children that are scared of the dark and color outside of the
lines. He wants us to understand that no matter what happens in life and no matter our children s ages,
we will always be parents, and they will always be our

Speech On Furthering Our Nation
Kennedy Wood Mrs. Bradshaw DC English III 28 November 2016 Furthering Our Nation
I.Introduction The current generation is disrespectful, entitled, and has forgotten the journey America
has taken to become the beautiful nation it is today. When walking around the country, often taken for
granted are all the advantages and freedoms America is blessed with. What is forgotten is who allows
citizens of this great country to live a free and fortunate lifestyle. Blessings are overlooked and
forgotten throughout time. Terrorists surround the country, yet it is still safe to go out on a Saturday
night or to the mall safely due to our protectors. Recently in Venice, California on Memorial Day, the
Veterans Memorial, painted on the side of a metro building, was covered in graffiti. The graffiti could
not be removed without destroying the whole mural and the damage was extensive. Disrespecting
veterans and destroying property was the outcome of this stunt (Gerber and Grad). Soldiers make a
hidden difference everyday and many citizens never step back and realize the reality. The reality is
that safety does not come free. It comes from sacrifices, selflessness, and battles. When troops are on
the battlefield away from their families, sacrificing mentally, physically and financially, not all
appreciate everything soldiers and their families endure. Some Americans still have the audacity to
vandalize the memorials built to honor soldiers, judge mental and physical drains on

Causes And Disadvantages Of The Middle Ages
The middle ages were a time of great change and political upheaval. With the advent of barbarians
migrating from all across the continent to better their lives and to receive the protection of the King or
Emperor. Learning and preserving the past became a priority for the first time ever as a country wide
goal. With the help of some truly great leaders like Charlemagne we have the countries and historical
artifacts we know today. Barbarian migrations had major effects on Europe, during the Middle Ages,
starting with the decline of Rome, the Franks, and most importantly by Charlemagne. The decline of
the Roman empire was caused by two things, one a lack of capable leaders to rule and second of all an
insurgence of those they considered barbarians. A barbarian being anyone who wasn t Roman, but in
this case specifically the Huns who came from the East as well as the Goths who lived around the
empire in the outskirts and further. The decline of Rome did not happen overnight it happened over
the late fourth century and fifth century. Starting with the Huns invasion of tribes in the far east
causing them and others to flee. That led the various Gothic tribes to cross the Danube River looking
for protection from the Huns that they hoped could be provided by the Romans. At this point in A.D
376 and later on the groups of Huns were not just one large group but they were split up into multiple
groups with their own hierarchy and aims to accomplish, and for the right payment

Research Paper on Hurricane Wilma
Hurricane Wilma
November 24, 2015
Geology 1401
Introducion: Cyclones, Hurricanes, and Typhoons, these cyclonic storms are known by many names
but are all born from the same mechanism: low pressure systems. Also known as depressions.
Thankfully, most hurricanes form only during hurricane season, which is from June 1st to November
30th. Within this season about 85 percent of the most intense hurricanes and 60 percent of minor
Atlantic tropical storms and hurricanes originate from African easterly waves (NOAA Cyclone
Report). These waves, which have a wavelength of 2000 to 2500 kilo meters, originate close to or
from the highlands of Ethiopia, Africa. Not all easterly waves become hurricanes, but the ones that do

Thanks to its 213 trillion teraflops, NOAA is able to release fairly accurate 5 day forecasts of
hurricanes. Granted, after 3 days the accuracy of these forecasts declines but they do serve as very
accurate maps within those first 3 days.
Hurricane Wilma On the evening of October 15, 2005 tropical depression number 24 appeared in
Atlantic Ocean, its winds at a mere 35 kilo meters per hour, pressure of about 1004 mb and heading
West at a pace of 5 kilo meters per hour. In the next few hours, the winds of depression number 24
gradually increased to 45 km/h and on the morning of October 16, it had reached speeds of 55 km/h.
On the 17nth of October this depression developed into tropical storm Wilma , with wind speeds at
about 65 km/h and an internal pressure of 1000 mb. At about 10 A.M the Yucatan Peninsula was
issued a warning, alerting them of the possible dangers from Wilma. Following an erratic pattern of
movement, experts were not sure where Wilma was headed. On the morning of October 18 Wilma was
about 810 km from Punta Allen, Mexico. Wilma once again intensified reaching speeds of 120 km/h,
by the end of the day it was officially a category II hurricane at 175 km/h. On the 19nth at 4 A.M,
about 595 km from Punta Allen, Mexico hurricane Wilma quickly reached wind speeds of 280 km and
pression levels of 980 mb, at these speeds Wilma was now classified as a category V. The rate at

Swedish Food In Northern Europe
So what exactly is Swedish food? Many may think of fish and Swedish meatballs. Scandinavia is a
part of Northern Europe surrounded by the Baltic Sea; this includes Sweden, Finland, and Norway.
Knowing the history of the region explains a lot about the foods that still exist there today. Vikings
who inhabited the area were some of the first people to develop food preservation methods. By
salting, dehydrating, and curing the fruits, vegetables, meats, and fish, the warriors were able to spend
less time hunting and gathering, and more time invading territories as far south as the Mediterranean.
Since they traveled so far, cooking influences from all over Europe are still apparent in the modern
Swedish diet. This includes German pastries, French soups, and English teas. ... Show more content

course, breads and cheeses. During lunch, it is common to see smörgåstårta on this table also.
Smörgåstårta literally translates to sandwich cake, which is exactly what it is. This is a double layer

Oral Traditions During The Colonial Period
While our styles of writing may have changed over the past hundred years, many themes and
connections are still relevant through these older texts. Most of the texts from the Colonial Period are
focused on certain themes that were prevalent during the time. The works that I read throughout this
chapter shared the common themes of cultural differences, religion, and calls to take initiative.
Throughout the Colonial Period, literature has focused on making connections to oral traditions and
sharing stories. With the rapid modernization of society and decrease in the verbal sharing of stories,
many people have turned to writing down these anecdotes to conserve their significance. For example,
some Native Americans have begun to share their enduring

Rhetorical Analysis Of John F. Kennedy s Inaugural Speech
Peace is a state of mind that is pleasing to everyone. When John F. Kennedy gave his inaugural
speech, his main focus was bettering the lives of all. He wanted everyone to be peaceful with one
another so that the world can be filled with altruism. Kennedy uses rhetorics, which is the art of well
developed speech, in his inaugural address. In JFK s Inaugural Speech, Kennedy claims that peace
needs to be achieved worldwide using logical appeal, ethical appeal, and word choice. One way
Kennedy states that the world needs to be peaceful is by using logical appeal. The first example of this
is when he says, we offer not a pledge but a request: that both sides begin anew the quest for peace,
before the dark powers of destruction unleashed by science engulf all humanity in planned or
accidental self destruction (7 8). It is clear that if each country is not careful with their nuclear
weapons, they could easily destroy the world; however, the author presents a better choice: if
everyone in the world become peaceful with one another, then there would not be the need to keep or
create more nuclear. Reasonably, the audience will want to create and sustain peace with other
countries so that nuclear weapons are no longer made. Another example is when he says, Let both
sides explore what problems unite us instead of belaboring those problems which divide us (8). It
would be more beneficial to everyone if humanity aimed to fix world wide problems than attempt to
fix problems that only affect a few parts of the world. In order to fix the bigger problems, each country
must not be factious and work on creating peace to benefit as many people as possible rather than just
their own country. The audience clearly recognizes the positive impact that world peace can have on
the world. All in all, using logical appeal, Kennedy is able to effectively convey to the reader the
importance of world peace.
Another way Kennedy states that worldwide peace needs to be acquired is through ethical appeal. He
starts off by saying, so let us begin anew remembering on both sides that civility is not a sign of
weakness, and sincerity is always subject to proof (8). He explains that being kind to one another is
not showing that weakness

Persuasive Essay On Food Stamps
Billions, that s how much money is being spent every year for food stamps alone. Billions could be
spent on college or getting people out of abusive relationships or saving us from the crippling debt that
we as Americans are facing. Rather , we are buying unhealthy people pop , candy, and cigarettes. Food
stamp regulations should be stricter in order to prevent abuse of the system, decrease the obesity rate,
and encourage people to obtain legal employment so that they no longer need food stamps ,despite the
claim that some people need food stamps. Some people are raising three babies ,trying to be full time
students ,and work a full time job.Others are sixty eight and can t work. I understand that some people
do need the assistance , but where do we draw the line? What kind of food are these people buying?
Celery and chicken breasts or soda and freezer meals? If people are eligible , it s the government s
fault , states Adam Sylvain. The Five Reasons or Food Stamps says Children are the biggest food
stamps benefactor . So much of what people think is going on, isn t or they just don t see the real
issues. Let s get this whole conversation started with the overlapping of programs. Based off of the
information found on the USDA ( US Department of Agriculture) ,people who receive food stamps
make an average of six hundred and forty nine dollars a month for a household of two adults a d two
children. On top of that, some of the families are also eligible for a program called WIC (Women with
Infant Children), this program gives approximately five hundred dollars a month. If a family qualified
for both that accumulates to a total of one thousand one hundred and forty nine dollars. If you can not
feed a family off of that amount of income, then you must be buying lobster and scallops . On top of
that there are other programs to provide financial assistance. As well as many towns having local food
pantries that give out food for free. The money that people are getting without earning could be going
into many other places. Other forms of abuse of the system include parents receiving money for
children that no longer live with them, my mother is a perfect example of this. The New York Times
has an article

The Importance Of Prosocial Behavior
Humans are inherently social being meaning they naturally tend to live in groups and that can consist
of both kin and nonkin. While humans do form communities there are conflicts that have and will
continue to occur because humans possess and exhibit traits both for and against prosocial behavior.
These antisocial traits continue to thrive in humans because it is working in conjunction with other
traits that are desired in humans or the trait themselves yields unexpected, but welcome behavior.
Morality, human s conscience that dictates right from wrong, balances these traits and encourages this
prosocial behavior, by enabling important inclinations such as cooperation and altruism that improve
human interactions. Generally speaking, actions that benefit the community will in turn benefit the
survival of that individual in the social environments constructed by humans. While there are methods
to both suppress unwanted tendencies and encourage wanted tendencies, Boehm focuses a significant
amount on these suppression techniques. The suppression of such bad behavior allows coherency in
the group.
This will cover a few key mechanisms of this suppression including the guidelines created by
societies, the regulation of them to uphold such ideals and some of the genetic forces that drive
evolution.
An important way to maintain a functioning society is to suppress the individuals who are unable to
abide by the social norm and therefore threaten to disrupt the balance and order of

Evidenced Based Practices
Counseling and delivering services under the best practice should always be the goal of a practitioner.
In a field such as counseling, where the lives of others are being impacted, making specific choices on
how to deliver services, and making a choice to choose one form of therapy over another is pertinent
to not only the successful rehabilitation of a client, but to also ensure the longevity of yourself as a
practitioner and as a counselor. Practicing techniques or alternative forms of therapy which are based

context of the Monterey Bay area I conducted my field research at the Carmel mission. I decided to do
my field research relating to the carmel mission because I am interested in the psychological effects
Native Americans experienced during the creation of the missions and how the missionaries affected
them. In addition, other reasons why I chose this postcolonial issue is because I wanted to gain more
knowledge on the missions, since I was given a very vague historical description in primary school.
Lastly, I was curious in this topic because I wanted to engage in multiple perspectives and to hear
what individuals really knew about the mission. Moreover, the Carmel mission was founded in June of
1770 by Saint Junipero Serra. The mission was primarily built to convert natives, establish territory,
and create stopping points along California. Native american tribes such as the Esselen and other
Costanoan tribes were the main groups who lived in that area who ... Show more content on

Life became difficult because crops were difficult to grow and the missionaries heavily relied on
supply ships. The natives were also having a difficult time adjusting to the strict lifestyle of the
missionaries. Native Americans did not only have to adjust to this new lifestyle but they also
encountered abuse. Physical abuse such as being whipped, burned, raped, and beated were all known
practices. In addition native culture, language, and spiritual practices were often forbidden under the
mission system. In an attempt to free themselves from this form of oppression and unhealthy lifestyle
some indians ran away. Unfortunately, running away from the mission was not enough. The
missionaries would bring back indians to the mission regardless of choice and they would be punished

Anger Disruption By Avoidance And Removal
Coping strategies Anger Disruption by Avoidance and Removal These techniques lead to interruption
of anger by removing you, mentally or physically, from the situation. For example, it might be wise to
simply get up and leave a situation when anger develops. This might even be negotiated with a spouse,
friend, or business associate in advance. It might be wise to delay responding by asking for time to
think about angering issues or to gather additional information before responding. It might be wise to
seek an alternative mode of response, such as a written or email answer, instead of an immediate
spoken one. These techniques may decrease or even prevent the anger altogether. Doing a distracting
non angry activity is also an alternative. One mother, with an anger problem, chose to plan meals and
do the laundry instead of arguing and insulting her teenage daughter about homework. Other
individuals may count to ten or may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Relaxation coping skills target this excitement and can help you calm down when angered. You can
learn to become aware of the triggers for anger and you can use relaxation to lower it. Relaxation
skills include slow deep breathing, slowly repeating a calming word or phrase, picturing a personal
relaxation image, or focusing on muscle tension and consciously letting it go. These skills are
practiced at home until you can relax quickly. Then, as you become better at using relaxation, it can be
used to lower anger within the therapy session. For example, the therapist may ask you to imagine an
angering event, experience the anger, and then assist you in the relaxation skills to lower the anger.
Over the course of a few sessions, as the therapist s assistance decreases, you can learn to handle
increasing levels of anger. If successful in the therapy sessions, you can begin to use relaxation for
anger management in daily living, freeing yourself to approach situations more

My Favorite Memories Of Reading
Don t be concerned, but my mom is suffering from tsundoku. Tsundoku is a Japanese word used to
describe the stock piling of books that you will never read. As long as I can remember my mom has
been bringing home heaps of books from anywhere she can get them. Last year, she came home from
the local library book sale with six bags of books. Yes, she loves to read, but she has not read any of
those books in the past year. Waiting to be shelved, most of them continue to sit on our basement floor,
collecting dust. This habit of my moms annoys me; nevertheless, I am very thankful she loves to read
and has passed on a portion of that love to me. Books play a major part in my life from memories of
being read to when I was little, reading books I hated in school, and falling in love with the characters
of a breathtaking novel. The importance of reading in my life goes all the way back to my childhood.
In fact, one of my favorite memories of reading, comes from my childhood. My sister and I loved the
book Green Eggs and Ham, by Dr.Seuss; more than that, we loved the funny voice our dad would use
when he read it. We would beg him every night to read us that book, and he always did. It was not
until years later I realized that he was not as fond of the book as we were. To this day I believe that my
love of reading came from those positive experiences as a child, and believe that every parent should
take the time to read to their children. As National Education Association employee,

The second Great Awakening, Immigration, and Christian Fundamentalism all played large parts in the

Epicureans Vs Epicureanism
Long Essay Response 1 To begin with I believe that the two ideologies that I find to be the best to
analyze this case are Epicureanism and the beliefs of Aristotle. Though I may be partial to these since
I believe that they support my feelings on the topic I also think that they make sense for this case.
According to the Epicureans, as well as Aristotle, Frederick lived an unhappy life. In my opinion the
Epicureans are most correct about his case.
The Epicureans would say that Frederick was unhappy for a multitude of reasons, starting with the
fact that his job caused him great stress. The fact that he spent all of those years stressing about his
job, staying up late in the night and missing important family emergencies for work, means that he
was living as happy a life as he could have been; a big part of Epicureanism is Ataraxia, or being free
of stress and being at peace, is something that Frederick did not achieve in his lifetime. In The
Epicurus Reader it says, The unwavering contemplation of these enables one to refer every choice and
avoidance to the health of the body and the freedom of the soul from disturbance, since this is the goal
of a blessed life. For we do everything for the sake of being neither in pain nor in terror. As soon as we
achieve this state every storm in the soul is dispelled, since the animal is not in a position to go after
some need nor to seek something else to complete the good of the body and the soul. I feel as though
the great stress that Frederick s job put on him caused him much disturbance and terror in his life.
Another reason they would say that he lived a sad life was due to his constant striving to attain more
luxuries and just how much he had to work to gain them. While they say that being self sufficient is
part of being happy but how non simplistic his life was pretty much all but cancels out his self
sufficiency. Also within The Epicurus Reader it says, And we believe that self sufficiency is a great
good, not in order that we might make do with few things under all circumstances, but so that if we do
not have a lot we can make do with few, being genuinely convinced that those who least need
extravagance enjoy it most; and that everything natural is easy to

Domestic Violence And Public Violence Essay
Approximately 12 million people in the United States are affected by domestic violence. There are 8.8
million children who will witness domestic violence. Half of all victims of domestic violence will also
experience the unimaginable pain of their child/children being abused alongside them. The fact is,
domestic violence will affect or touch every person in their lifetime (Pence McMahon, 1999). There
are many ground breaking advocates of reducing domestic violence, though one stands out above the
others. Ellen Pence helped build the foundation of batterer programming with the Duluth program.
The program forged new ground and bridged the concerns of advocates and criminal justice officials
by developing its Power and Control Wheel from women s experiences with abuse (Zorza, 1998).
Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, she earned her BA from the College of St Scholastica in Duluth and
a PhD from the University of Toronto. Her mother inspired her to be an activist and, as a young
woman, Ellen became involved in anti war, civil rights and homelessness issues. In 1975 she joined
the feminist movement against domestic violence, and five years later she moved to Duluth, where,
with a group of friends, she came up with the Duluth model (Schechter Ganley, 1995).
During this time, domestic violence was considered a private matter, not an issue for community or
state intervention. The birthplace of that revolution was Duluth, Minnesota. It was there that she,

Swot Analysis Of Hijing Hyundai
Building Distribution Channels One of the most important challenges for Beijing Hyundai was to
develop distribution channels, and to decide where channels should be expanded geographically.
Beijing Hyundai decided to adopt the 4S Shop model, but had to decide where the company should
locate the shops. The company classified the China market into seven regions, north, south, east,
northeast, central, southwest, and northwest. These seven regions were then regrouped into two major
categories, an all cities expansion group (north, south, and east) and a core cities expansion group
(northeast, central, southwest, and northwest). The company then established a sequential channel
expansion strategy, following a hub and spoke pattern, for each of the two groups of regions. With the
hub and spoke approach for the all cities expansion group, Beijing Hyundai‟s distribution channels

Florida Californi A Great Impact On The Most Diverse...
California has been known for it s beautiful golden coast, stunning mountain ranges, and the always
wonderful sunny weather. The state houses the largest and second most diverse population of people
in the United States. The large diversity of the people could be contributed by the vast differing
landscapes that stretch across the state. Northern California in particular, is home to a variety of
enormous mountains, mountain ranges, beautiful lakes, and forever flowing rivers. People come from
all over to witness these breathtaking views. As for Southern California the alluring beaches, rolling
grass valleys, and various other attractions make for a significant difference to northern California.
The difference in environments has a great impact on the type of people that live in each region. An
individual s race, ethnicity, hobbies, political views, job, etc. all can have an impact on what area of
California they live in. Some people, including myself enjoy a lot of outdoor activities that fit well in
Northern California areas such as hunting, hiking, snowboarding, etc. Meanwhile, people that live in
southern California may have much different outdoor hobbies due to the change in climate. The
contrast between north and south almost creates a split in the state. In 1941, the proposal of a new
state, named the State of Jefferson would take the very upper most part of California and the southern
most part of Oregon to create a 51st state. Today, that proposal has

A Sorrowful Woman Short Story
Romance novels are typically based in a set pattern and Karen van der Zee s A Secret Sorrow is no
exception. Meanwhile, in Gail Godwin s A Sorrowful Woman , the romance aspect is not nearly as
focused on. While A Secret Sorrow is a nice, easy romance novel, the short story A Sorrowful Woman
is a much better example of literature, and portrays a much more unique message. The two stories
differ greatly when compared by their theme, by the role of motherhood and children, and by how
they are written. Theme is almost predictable in most romance novels. In A Secret Sorrow, the conflict
of Faye, the main character, not being able to have children is easily overcome by the power of love.
Faye and her future husband end up adopting children and having their happily ever after. In other
words, the theme is love conquers all. For a romance novel, this doesn t stray far from the pattern.
However, the other story, A Sorrowful Woman , has a completely different theme. In the story, the
woman is sick with an unknown illness and locks herself away. While she does have a loving, devoted
husband who does all he can to care for her and cheer her up, in the end, she still dies; a sad ending
completely unlike the first story. The husband would give her a sleeping draught (39) to help her
sleep, and would take her out to dinner dressed and ... beautiful again (40). Although the husband was

The Lifelong Goal Of Saint Thomas Aquinas
Ryan Comolli
Study Of St. Thomas Aquinas
Research Paper
11/23/2014
The lifelong goal of Saint Thomas Aquinas was to clearly elaborate the independence of philosophy
and theology, but at the same time show their symbiotic relationship with each other. Throughout his
life Aquinas was known as a theologian but many of his works carry strong philosophical undertones
as well. The beauty of theology is it can enlighten us through its leap of faith. Philosophy was required
to precede theology. The truths laid down from philosophy are concrete and coherent. These
philosophical truths are the shoes in which theology can walk. Without philosophy there is no
theology. Examples of this can be seen everywhere. Philosophical concepts like ... Show more content

Their importance is paramount because these truths that we believe can in turn be used to create
something greater. As St. Thomas progresses through his works he builds on philosophical truths in
order to allow us to reach a greater higher knowledge. In his book the Summa Theologica Thomas
says, We must bear in mind that there are two kinds of sciences. There are some which proceed from a
principle known by the natural light of intelligence, such as arithmetic and geometry and the like.
Others proceed from principles known by the light of a higher form of knowledge: Thus the science of
perspective proceeds from principles established by geometry, and music from principles established
by arithmetic. So it is that sacred doctrine is a science because it proceeds from principles established
by the light of a higher form of knowledge, namely that of God and the blessed (I, q. 1, a. 2). Aquinas
is establishing the basis for all of theology to be built upon. As he describes to us, there is always an
action and reaction when it comes to human understanding. In order for someone to believe, there
needs to be a definitive and concrete basis for which this knowledge is built. In the case of theology,
we require the basics set forth by philosophy to establish the existence of God. This is and always will
be the quintessential step in accepting the divine wisdom which god reveals to us. Belief in the

Essay on Rhetorical Devices in JFK s Inaugural Speech
Rhetorical Devices of JFK If a writer wanted to appeal to the audience, what would he have to do? He
is going to have to utilize some rhetorical devices of course! Rhetorical devices are key in writing
persuasion papers and just any paper that is meant to be read to an audience. In the Inauguration
Speech of 1961 given by President John F. Kennedy, he was able to really connect with his audience
that day by using lots of different rhetorical devices. By using chiasmus, anaphoras, and metaphors,
JFK was able to effectively reach and persuade people to have faith in him despite his age and
religion. Perhaps the most important line of JFK s entire inaugural address was a utilization of
chiasmus, which is a figure of speech by which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is asking the American population a few favors that could very easily be carried out that would
improve our nation as a whole. Metaphors are very prevalent throughout the entire speech of JFK. A
metaphor is a comparison, or an analogy, that states one thing is anther. The earliest use of metaphor
by JFK was about a torch. Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that
the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans (Kennedy, 2). This gives us a good idea of
how Kennedy felt about someone his age becoming president. He felt that it was a new era in
American history and he was the leading the way on a new movement towards a better America. A
torch is used to light the way on a path that is yet to be traveled, just as Kennedy had been given the
power to lead the way for our country down the unlit path and decide for us whether or not we will
prosper. Without the use of rhetorical devices, writers would be lost. There would be no way for them
to pull the reader into what they have to say. John F. Kennedy sure knew how to woo people with his
words and thank goodness he did. If he didn t have rhetorical devices, Kennedy never would have
been able to get the message of what he was trying to achieve across to his readers and listeners and
probably never would have gained as much support as he did. Rhetorical devices not only make a

Febrile Epilepsy Research Paper
Each year, one in one hundred people in the United State develop epilepsy, but there is a less common
type of epilepsy. It s called febrile infection related epileptic syndrome, more commonly known as
FIRES. I happen to know one of the few people who have this type of epilepsy. Her name is Kailee,
and she goes to my brother s school. She was even in some of his classes. This type of epilepsy occurs
in school aged children between the ages of six and seventeen ( What is FIRES? ). It starts with a mild
febrile illness that lasts anywhere from four days to two weeks. Febrile illness is when someone has a
fever but they aren t sick with anything else ( Febrile Illness ). When Kaylee was at this point, her
mom thought she had the flu. This is very common, as the flu presents itself as a fever in many
children. Then, the child starts to have seizures. The seizures occur very quickly, and the child needs
to be hospitalized immediately at this point. Seizures the children experience are non focal, meaning
they have no consistent starting point or ending point in the brain ( What is FIRES ). The disease is

Due to its low prevalence, they aren t able to study enough patients to get any solid results. However,
there are some ideas as to what causes the seizures. First of all, it could be genetic. The problem with

is a result of an autoimmune response, while others think the seizures are caused by a malfunction in
the metabolic process of some cells. Both of these theories have little evidence to support them.
FIRES could be a result of the febrile illness that comes before the seizures. The idea is that the
increased heat in the body results in the mutation of a pathogen. The new pathogen might attack the

The Roles of Greek Heroism and the Gods in the Persian Wars
The Persian Wars (499 479 BC) put the Greeks in the difficult position of having to defend their
country against a vast empire with an army that greatly outnumbered their own. Many city states
united in battle, although others found ways to avoid participation in the wars. The Greeks also relied
on the words of Apollo to guide them, but the oracle did not always act encouragingly. The Greeks

The Athenians superior attitude would continue throughout the wars against Persia.
The Greeks showed more unity during the Second Persian War. Xerxes assembled a Persian army
including soldiers from all parts of the Eastern world in order to retaliate against the Greeks for their

the large Greek forces and avoided war. The Greeks instead presented an image of a nation torn by
cowardice, thereby making the Persians more confident in attacking Greece. This lack of unity among

What do you know about global climate change? Do you think we create this problem in the twentieth

worse during the Industrial Revolution of the eighteenth century. Older generations generated more
carbon dioxide into the atmosphere due to the burning of fossil fuel and deforestation. More carbon
dioxide had a negative impact on the ecosystems of the planet. And the scientific definition of global

are the gases that lead to the greenhouse effect. Pollution of the earth causes damage to the ozone
layer in the atmosphere, and it s easy for the sun rays to pass in the earth. Global climate change
causes a negative impact on the environment and the world s oceans. Global climate change causes
many problems for the planet. The population growth of earth is 7.125 billion. Can anybody imagine
how much greenhouse gas we produce in the atmosphere? Because they re more people on the earth,

checkout and the history of it. The first country that applied this system to use it and UK was the first

For supermarkets, it is cost efficiency. Nowadays, the economic condition is still recovering process

The Stono Rebellion
With the European discovery of the New World, African slave trade began to grow. Slaves were traded
and bought and then shipped to some other place and then sold. Europeans would trade things for
slaves then bring them to places like the West Indies and sell them. They would then buy goods and
bring the goods back to Europe. This was the triangular trade system. Slaves played a vital role in
trade all over the world, old and new. Although African slavery had already existed, there were many
reasons as to why it was needed during the Atlantic World and there were many effects of this. As
Europeans began moving to the east coast of North America, they realized that if they were going to
use all this land, they needed people to work it. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The North thought there shouldn t be slavery, and the South thought there should be. This ended up
causing the South to secede from the Union, which in turn caused the bloodiest war in American
history to take place. After the Union won the war and slaves were freed shortly after, there was a
great deal of bitterness from the South for a long time. For a long time after slavery was abolished,
African Americans still didn t have many rights. Not until the late 1900s were rights given to them. It
took nearly 300 years for African Americans to be treated right, and sometimes they still

Characterization In A Good Man Is Hard To Find
Exploring the idea that all men are born sinners, O Connor demonstrates immoral indulgences
entertained by various characters. Readers are introduced to grandmother, an elderly woman whose
consistent unscrupulous behavior exhibits her inner motives. Grandmother uses subtle, indirect
confrontation to get her way until she is faced with The Misfit, a runaway criminal who believes that
crime is a justifiable. In A Good Man Is Hard To Find, Flannery O Connor uses characterization to
display a loss of morals, imagery to portray evil in society, and symbolism to emphasize the struggle
of obtaining grace to prove how life is nihilistic without religion. Characterization is used not only to
amuse readers, but to also display an understanding of human nature, in this case a decline in values.
June Star is described as critical with a nasty motormouth. She is rude to everyone surrounding her
although adults seem to find her charming; Ain t she cute? Red Sam s wife said leaning over the
counter. Would you like to come be my little girl? No I certainly wouldn t, June Star said. I wouldn t
live in a broken down place like this for a million bucks! and she ran back to the table. Ain t she cute?
the woman repeated, stretching her mouth politely. Aren t you ashamed? hissed the grandmother (O
Connor 121). In life, there are a multitude of ways to reply to various comments and she could have
courteously declined. Her response allows her to be represented with an absence of

Even now, before the recession lifts, our research suggests that most global companies are running
into staffing problems in emerging markets, and they are also having a difficult time finding talented
younger managers to replace baby boom retirees. These problems will be made all the worse because,
we ve found, current hiring practices are haphazard at best and ineffective at worst. And even when
companies find the right people, they have difficulty retaining them. This article offers our best
thinking about the most effective way to hire top level managers, based on a combination of our own
and established research about the relationship between recruiting and long term corporate
performance (see the research sidebar). The following is, to our knowledge, the first time that an end
to end set of best practices has been put forward in one place. Our compendium comprises seven
steps, which cover the full recruitment spectrum: anticipating the need for new hires, specifying the

This method uses the mass of solid SO42 , with an unknown quantity and quality, to qualitatively determine the makeup of the solid SO3 . Two separate experiments with the initial compounds of BaCl2 and SO42 were put into solution to allow for the BaSO4 precipitate to form. Through filtration and ignition of precipitate containing ashless papers, the solid masses of BaSO4 were attained. With a gravimetric factor of 1:1, sample 1 resulted in the formation of 0.5874g BaSO4 from 0.4004g of SO42 , while sample 2 resulted in the formation of 0.4073g BaSO4 from 0.3985g of SO42 . • 4. Sartre s No Exit As stated earlier, man is an autonomous individual. Our freedom of choice determines what we make of ourselves. In the duration of Sartre s play, No Exit, we are observed to three major characters serving their afterlife in hell together. Inez, one of the major characters, serves her afterlife from committing suicide with her lesbian lover concluding an affair with a woman s husband. Her actions, in the play, overlook what is considered to be an important example of how we are completely in control of our actions. By acting as Estelle s mirror , due to her personal admiration and obsession with her appearance, Inez engages in an action in which she ultimately knew would not result in the way she hoped for. Estelle, being a straight woman that is attracted to older ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, our thought process that there might be the slightest chance that our situation will work for the best, motivates us to move in that direction of choice. Take Christopher McCandless for example; a graduate from Emory University as a top athlete and student with a bright future. Rather than taking the safe route, his freedom of choice caused for him to embark on a journey in the Alaskan wilderness. His bohemian actions furthermore, provoked a dramatic end to his journey as he died of starvation. The importance of this example nonetheless, is the fact that we are aware that McCandless was in complete control of his situation, but decided to use his freedom of choice to move in a direction in which he thought he can succeed in. These findings articulate the work of Sartre and his central claim on existentialism. Another example of how man is an autonomous individual comes from the thought process of every high school senior; whether or not it is the right time to attend college. Given our freedom of choice, we have the ability to pursue any career we aspire for with the thought process that everything will work out as we hope ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Bright Lines Identity The novel Bright Lines tells the story of a Muslim family in the heart of New York and their trials and tribulations as they face the assimilation of American culture. Throughout the story, the young characters, Maya, El, and Charu are the most affected by this assimilation because they clash with what their elders think is best. El is a particularly interesting character because he is the most affected by the division of the two cultures he was raised in. The audience often sees El confused about the way he feels about his body while at the same time he is suffering from visions that haunt him. Growing up was very tough for El because he faced many obstacles from her parents being murdered because of the war to her complete inability to connect to anyone on a truly deep level. This, along with the diverse cultural roles in his life, has left his in many predicaments where she struggles with who he is. His identity is something that he longs for but has yet to find. A major aspect of his identity of which he struggles greatly with is his sexuality. Religion in the novel is an influential aspect of El s life and his struggle with his sexuality. The emphasis placed on religion is a very important part of life, especially in India. In the culture presented in the novel, religion, while not presented often, is a huge aspect of life. It is seen dictating every interaction a person has. While El does not show any attachment to a particular religion (despite the time she prays ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rod Stewart s 1980 s anthem ignites a spark in one s mind to truly think deeper into the meaning of his decades old lyrics. Being young is something that every person has to go through and I believe that through the experiences of our youth we are able to grow not only in years but also in intellect, knowledge, and wisdom. By growing and going through the hardships that we experience as young people, we are then in turn able to give back to our children and future generations in helping them to grow and become better people. Although we cannot give them everything, what we can do is try our best to give them all we have, mentally, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Our children are the light of our lives and without them our days would seem meaningless and minute. What Rod Stewart is trying to capture in these lyrics is that no matter what happens in life and no matter how far away from home our children may be, they will always be young in our hearts. At birth we see our children as tiny, precious gifts of life and that image is the first snapshot we think of when we think of our children. No matter how old they are, our children will always be our little babies. That s the message that Rod Stewart is sharing with us, his children will always be the little boys and girls with scrapped elbows and dirty hands. They will always be the children that are scared of the dark and color outside of the lines. • 7. Speech On Furthering Our Nation Kennedy Wood Mrs. Bradshaw DC English III 28 November 2016 Furthering Our Nation I.Introduction The current generation is disrespectful, entitled, and has forgotten the journey America has taken to become the beautiful nation it is today. When walking around the country, often taken for granted are all the advantages and freedoms America is blessed with. What is forgotten is who allows citizens of this great country to live a free and fortunate lifestyle. Blessings are overlooked and forgotten throughout time. Terrorists surround the country, yet it is still safe to go out on a Saturday night or to the mall safely due to our protectors. Recently in Venice, California on Memorial Day, the Veterans Memorial, painted on the side of a metro building, was covered in graffiti. The graffiti could not be removed without destroying the whole mural and the damage was extensive. Disrespecting veterans and destroying property was the outcome of this stunt (Gerber and Grad). Soldiers make a hidden difference everyday and many citizens never step back and realize the reality. The reality is that safety does not come free. It comes from sacrifices, selflessness, and battles. When troops are on the battlefield away from their families, sacrificing mentally, physically and financially, not all appreciate everything soldiers and their families endure. Some Americans still have the audacity to vandalize the memorials built to honor soldiers, judge mental and physical drains on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With the advent of barbarians migrating from all across the continent to better their lives and to receive the protection of the King or Emperor. Learning and preserving the past became a priority for the first time ever as a country wide goal. With the help of some truly great leaders like Charlemagne we have the countries and historical artifacts we know today. Barbarian migrations had major effects on Europe, during the Middle Ages, starting with the decline of Rome, the Franks, and most importantly by Charlemagne. The decline of the Roman empire was caused by two things, one a lack of capable leaders to rule and second of all an insurgence of those they considered barbarians. A barbarian being anyone who wasn t Roman, but in this case specifically the Huns who came from the East as well as the Goths who lived around the empire in the outskirts and further. The decline of Rome did not happen overnight it happened over the late fourth century and fifth century. Starting with the Huns invasion of tribes in the far east causing them and others to flee. That led the various Gothic tribes to cross the Danube River looking for protection from the Huns that they hoped could be provided by the Romans. Scandinavia is a part of Northern Europe surrounded by the Baltic Sea; this includes Sweden, Finland, and Norway. By salting, dehydrating, and curing the fruits, vegetables, meats, and fish, the warriors were able to spend less time hunting and gathering, and more time invading territories as far south as the Mediterranean. • 12. Rhetorical Analysis Of John F. Kennedy s Inaugural Speech Peace is a state of mind that is pleasing to everyone. When John F. Kennedy gave his inaugural speech, his main focus was bettering the lives of all. He wanted everyone to be peaceful with one another so that the world can be filled with altruism. Kennedy uses rhetorics, which is the art of well developed speech, in his inaugural address. In JFK s Inaugural Speech, Kennedy claims that peace needs to be achieved worldwide using logical appeal, ethical appeal, and word choice. One way Kennedy states that the world needs to be peaceful is by using logical appeal. The first example of this is when he says, we offer not a pledge but a request: that both sides begin anew the quest for peace, before the dark powers of destruction unleashed by science engulf all humanity in planned or accidental self destruction (7 8). It is clear that if each country is not careful with their nuclear weapons, they could easily destroy the world; however, the author presents a better choice: if everyone in the world become peaceful with one another, then there would not be the need to keep or create more nuclear. Reasonably, the audience will want to create and sustain peace with other countries so that nuclear weapons are no longer made. Another example is when he says, Let both sides explore what problems unite us instead of belaboring those problems which divide us (8). It would be more beneficial to everyone if humanity aimed to fix world wide problems than attempt to fix problems that only affect a few parts of the world. In order to fix the bigger problems, each country must not be factious and work on creating peace to benefit as many people as possible rather than just their own country. The audience clearly recognizes the positive impact that world peace can have on the world. All in all, using logical appeal, Kennedy is able to effectively convey to the reader the importance of world peace. Another way Kennedy states that worldwide peace needs to be acquired is through ethical appeal. He starts off by saying, so let us begin anew remembering on both sides that civility is not a sign of weakness, and sincerity is always subject to proof (8). Billions could be spent on college or getting people out of abusive relationships or saving us from the crippling debt that we as Americans are facing. Rather , we are buying unhealthy people pop , candy, and cigarettes. Food stamp regulations should be stricter in order to prevent abuse of the system, decrease the obesity rate, and encourage people to obtain legal employment so that they no longer need food stamps ,despite the claim that some people need food stamps. Some people are raising three babies ,trying to be full time students ,and work a full time job.Others are sixty eight and can t work. I understand that some people do need the assistance , but where do we draw the line? What kind of food are these people buying? Celery and chicken breasts or soda and freezer meals? If people are eligible , it s the government s fault , states Adam Sylvain. The Five Reasons or Food Stamps says Children are the biggest food stamps benefactor . So much of what people think is going on, isn t or they just don t see the real issues. Let s get this whole conversation started with the overlapping of programs. Based off of the information found on the USDA ( US Department of Agriculture) ,people who receive food stamps make an average of six hundred and forty nine dollars a month for a household of two adults a d two children. On top of that, some of the families are also eligible for a program called WIC (Women with Infant Children), this program gives approximately five hundred dollars a month. If a family qualified for both that accumulates to a total of one thousand one hundred and forty nine dollars. If you can not feed a family off of that amount of income, then you must be buying lobster and scallops . On top of that there are other programs to provide financial assistance. As well as many towns having local food pantries that give out food for free. The money that people are getting without earning could be going into many other places. Other forms of abuse of the system include parents receiving money for children that no longer live with them, my mother is a perfect example of this. The New York Times has an article ... While humans do form communities there are conflicts that have and will continue to occur because humans possess and exhibit traits both for and against prosocial behavior. These antisocial traits continue to thrive in humans because it is working in conjunction with other traits that are desired in humans or the trait themselves yields unexpected, but welcome behavior. Morality, human s conscience that dictates right from wrong, balances these traits and encourages this prosocial behavior, by enabling important inclinations such as cooperation and altruism that improve human interactions. Generally speaking, actions that benefit the community will in turn benefit the survival of that individual in the social environments constructed by humans. While there are methods to both suppress unwanted tendencies and encourage wanted tendencies, Boehm focuses a significant amount on these suppression techniques. The suppression of such bad behavior allows coherency in the group. This will cover a few key mechanisms of this suppression including the guidelines created by societies, the regulation of them to uphold such ideals and some of the genetic forces that drive evolution. • 23. My Favorite Memories Of Reading Don t be concerned, but my mom is suffering from tsundoku. Tsundoku is a Japanese word used to describe the stock piling of books that you will never read. As long as I can remember my mom has been bringing home heaps of books from anywhere she can get them. Last year, she came home from the local library book sale with six bags of books. Yes, she loves to read, but she has not read any of those books in the past year. Waiting to be shelved, most of them continue to sit on our basement floor, collecting dust. This habit of my moms annoys me; nevertheless, I am very thankful she loves to read and has passed on a portion of that love to me. Books play a major part in my life from memories of being read to when I was little, reading books I hated in school, and falling in love with the characters of a breathtaking novel. The importance of reading in my life goes all the way back to my childhood. In fact, one of my favorite memories of reading, comes from my childhood. My sister and I loved the book Green Eggs and Ham, by Dr.Seuss; more than that, we loved the funny voice our dad would use when he read it. We would beg him every night to read us that book, and he always did. It was not until years later I realized that he was not as fond of the book as we were. To this day I believe that my love of reading came from those positive experiences as a child, and believe that every parent should take the time to read to their children. • 25. Epicureans Vs Epicureanism Long Essay Response 1 To begin with I believe that the two ideologies that I find to be the best to analyze this case are Epicureanism and the beliefs of Aristotle. Though I may be partial to these since I believe that they support my feelings on the topic I also think that they make sense for this case. According to the Epicureans, as well as Aristotle, Frederick lived an unhappy life. In my opinion the Epicureans are most correct about his case. The Epicureans would say that Frederick was unhappy for a multitude of reasons, starting with the fact that his job caused him great stress. The fact that he spent all of those years stressing about his job, staying up late in the night and missing important family emergencies for work, means that he was living as happy a life as he could have been; a big part of Epicureanism is Ataraxia, or being free of stress and being at peace, is something that Frederick did not achieve in his lifetime. In The Epicurus Reader it says, The unwavering contemplation of these enables one to refer every choice and avoidance to the health of the body and the freedom of the soul from disturbance, since this is the goal of a blessed life. For we do everything for the sake of being neither in pain nor in terror. As soon as we achieve this state every storm in the soul is dispelled, since the animal is not in a position to go after some need nor to seek something else to complete the good of the body and the soul. I feel as though the great stress that Frederick s job put on him caused him much disturbance and terror in his life. Another reason they would say that he lived a sad life was due to his constant striving to attain more luxuries and just how much he had to work to gain them. While they say that being self sufficient is part of being happy but how non simplistic his life was pretty much all but cancels out his self sufficiency. Also within The Epicurus Reader it says, And we believe that self sufficiency is a great good, not in order that we might make do with few things under all circumstances, but so that if we do not have a lot we can make do with few, being genuinely convinced that those who least need extravagance enjoy it most; and that everything natural is easy to ... • 27. Domestic Violence And Public Violence Essay Approximately 12 million people in the United States are affected by domestic violence. There are 8.8 million children who will witness domestic violence. Half of all victims of domestic violence will also experience the unimaginable pain of their child/children being abused alongside them. The fact is, domestic violence will affect or touch every person in their lifetime (Pence McMahon, 1999). There are many ground breaking advocates of reducing domestic violence, though one stands out above the others. Ellen Pence helped build the foundation of batterer programming with the Duluth program. The program forged new ground and bridged the concerns of advocates and criminal justice officials by developing its Power and Control Wheel from women s experiences with abuse (Zorza, 1998). Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, she earned her BA from the College of St Scholastica in Duluth and a PhD from the University of Toronto. Her mother inspired her to be an activist and, as a young woman, Ellen became involved in anti war, civil rights and homelessness issues. In 1975 she joined the feminist movement against domestic violence, and five years later she moved to Duluth, where, with a group of friends, she came up with the Duluth model (Schechter Ganley, 1995). During this time, domestic violence was considered a private matter, not an issue for community or state intervention. The birthplace of that revolution was Duluth, Minnesota. While A Secret Sorrow is a nice, easy romance novel, the short story A Sorrowful Woman is a much better example of literature, and portrays a much more unique message. The two stories differ greatly when compared by their theme, by the role of motherhood and children, and by how they are written. Theme is almost predictable in most romance novels. In A Secret Sorrow, the conflict of Faye, the main character, not being able to have children is easily overcome by the power of love. Throughout his life Aquinas was known as a theologian but many of his works carry strong philosophical undertones as well. The beauty of theology is it can enlighten us through its leap of faith. Philosophy was required to precede theology. The truths laid down from philosophy are concrete and coherent. These philosophical truths are the shoes in which theology can walk. Their importance is paramount because these truths that we believe can in turn be used to create something greater. As St. Thomas progresses through his works he builds on philosophical truths in order to allow us to reach a greater higher knowledge. In his book the Summa Theologica Thomas says, We must bear in mind that there are two kinds of sciences. There are some which proceed from a principle known by the natural light of intelligence, such as arithmetic and geometry and the like. Others proceed from principles known by the light of a higher form of knowledge: Thus the science of perspective proceeds from principles established by geometry, and music from principles established by arithmetic. So it is that sacred doctrine is a science because it proceeds from principles established by the light of a higher form of knowledge, namely that of God and the blessed (I, q. 1, a. 2). Aquinas is establishing the basis for all of theology to be built upon. As he describes to us, there is always an action and reaction when it comes to human understanding. In order for someone to believe, there needs to be a definitive and concrete basis for which this knowledge is built. In the case of theology, we require the basics set forth by philosophy to establish the existence of God. This is and always will be the quintessential step in accepting the divine wisdom which god reveals to us. Belief in the Catholic Church and God ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans (Kennedy, 2). This gives us a good idea of how Kennedy felt about someone his age becoming president.
