Egger s Corruption In Zeitoun
By reading the recent news stories of Zeitoun and his ex wife Kathy, my perception of him was
extremely skewed as I read Zeitoun. Rather than viewing him as the heroic and invincible man that he
was, I found myself constantly looking forward to the abusive man he is, ignoring the courageous acts
he had accomplished. He originally comes off as a fearless, valiant man in the novel Zeitoun, but now
he is a criminal. This alteration was provoked. The current actions of Zeitoun enhance Eggers purpose
and prove to be a primary consequence of the corruption he had experienced. David Eggers wrote the
novel, Zeitoun to dismantle the strong façade of the United and to reveal that when aid was needed
most, the government only managed to worsen conditions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Rather than escaping disaster and fleeing New Orleans, he decided to sacrifice his safety and guard his
city. Zeitoun felt as if he had been called to stay, that God knew he would be of service if he remained.
His choice to stay in the city had been God s will (Eggers110). Excerpts such as this one illustrate
Zeitoun as an extremely religious and valiant man. He put others before himself and took
responsibilities into his own hands. However, when Zeitoun was placed in Camp Greyhound, his
valiant character slowly began to fade. Due to mistreatment, Zeitoun, the valiant hero, began to waste
away; he knew the conditions had begun to take a very real toll on his psyche. He had been angry until
now, but he had been thinking clearly. Now the connections were more tenuous...It diminished the
humanity in all of them (Eggers236). Eggers further displayed Zeitoun s diminishing mental stability
when he was placed in a maximum security unit at Hunt s correctional center. Eggers wrote, ...he had
been confined twenty three hours a day to his cell...The environment would drive any sane man mad
(Eggers264). However, as we look towards Zeitoun s actions after he was released, he appeared to be
okay, despite his desire to work himself for hours more than usual. The only noticeable mental issues
that were a result of his mistreatment were displayed within Kathy s character. Eggers included that
Kathy s test results pointed to

Antigone Moral Dilemma
Antigone s Moral Dilemma Margaret Walsh South University Online Antigone s Moral Dilemma
Perhaps the most pronounced question in the play Antigone by Sophocles is the value of human law
vs. divine law. In this tragic play a newly appointed king Creon declares to his people that treason was
committed during battle, and one of the two brothers (Polyneices) killed shall not be buried according
to the Gods, but instead He shall be left unburied for all to watch the corpse mutilated and eaten by
carrion birds and by dogs (Sophocles, 1900.). This dilemma is felt by ... Show more content on

Antigone answers no to all that she finds to be vile, I have longer to please the dead than please the
living here: in the kingdom down below I ll lie forever (Sophocles, 1900. Lines 88 90). These lines
show how much personal power she possesses compared to King Creon. Antigone remains consistent,
even contentious in her disobedience. By offending the king, it is as if Antigone is leaving him no
choice and his prideful ways force him to sustain her sentence. After Creon realizes that fulfilling his
order may be a mistake , he also knows that he cannot retract the ordering of her death. He had
surrendered his actions to the power of the state, and thus rendering himself to a loathsome state.
Unlike Antigone, who finds free will and faith in the laws of the god s. Playwrights such as Sophocles
attempt to understand the meaning of human suffering and reexamine the many traditions and ideals
from the past. Greek mythology questions the public and private responsibilities of individuals. As in
any circumstance fighting against what is valued as right can become a conflicting power. Antigone s
decision to go through this treacherous act alone enabled her to find peace within the divine laws of
nature during her time. The act of surrendering to a fate that was unjust prepared her for the desire she
clung to despite its unbalanced position. Antigone s fatal removal from the

Mobile Cloud Computing And Technology
Abstract
As advances in technology occur, mobile cloud computing is able to overcome the issue of resource
poverty that occurs in mobile devices. Manufacturers now look at cloud computing as an asset
because they can run their products better. The number of businesses and individuals that are investing
in cloud computing services is anticipated to grow rapidly. Rapid growth of this nature will have a
large impact in the IT industry. This study shows that cloud computing, including mobile computing,
is a major contribution to the expansion of output and employment within the IT sector. An
improvement in performance is making mobile cloud computing a better choice for consumers. In
recent years, changes in the mobile cloud computing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He thinks that manufacturers depend on their mobile devices more than past years (Columbus, 2014).
For manufacturers to benefit their mobile devices and take advantage of the automated process, they
need to enter in the customer s personality on purchasing products into the system. It is also beneficial
to figure out why the customer is purchasing such items (Columbus, 2014).
Is mobile cloud computing growing enough to increase the demand for manufacturing jobs? Should
businesses use more mobile devices to generate additional manufacturing jobs, or is it as simple as
having more mobile devices built for sale by those manufacturing mobile devices? Is mobile cloud
computing growing fast enough to increase the demand for mobile devices to generate manufacturing
jobs? Further study by Staten, Csorny, and Minnick show why advances in mobile cloud computing
exists and the answer is businesses using more mobile devices as stated by Subramanian and
Columbus. As a solution, more mobile devices may need to be manufactured in order to keep up with
customer orders as mentioned by Columbus.
Mobile cloud computing is part of the expansion that is a leading contribution to the increased growth
in output and employment in the IT industry. One avenue for mobile cloud computing is that rapid
growth is expected to have high in demand service in markets such as software, hardware, and IT
outsourcing. The performance of mobile

The Animal Protection Movement Of The Nineteenth Century
The animal protection movement of the nineteenth century was based on the concept of animal
welfare; that is, the moral obligations required by human society. Such morals stem from natural
theology, specifically, the Book of Nature, which proposes that humans, the superior beings, should
hold dominion over animals, but have mercy, care, and stewardship toward them. From these ideas,
the animal protection movement was formed with two responsibilities in mind: first, to address
traditional moral concerns, such that an individual pledges to do no harm to animals; and second, to
enforce the prevention of cruelty to animals inflicted by others (Fan, 10/28).
The first anti cruelty bill was introduced to Parliament in England in 1800 in an attempt to end bull
baiting; this initial legislation was the start of a long effort. In 1822, Colonel Richard Martin
succeeded in passing a bill to prevent cruelty to livestock (later amended to include ... Show more

She was not only an animal welfare advocate, but also a writer and a suffragist. In 1875, Cobbe
established the National Anti Vivisection Society (NAVS), which combatted medical establishments
and their methods for experimentation, influencing future research methods and animal testing. A year
later, the Cruelty to Animals Act was passed, establishing England s first attempt to regulate
experimentation of animals (Guerrini, 90). In the midst of the anti vivisection legislation, Anna Sewell
published Black Beauty, an animal autobiography illustrating the conditions of a working horse in the
nineteenth century. Black Beauty exposes the treatment of animals during this time, including the
cruelty of accessories such as the bearing rein, a strap restraining the horse s neck, causing damage
and pain. Sewell s novel raised enough public outcries to have the bearing rein abolished in England,
and spark anti cruelty legislation in

Essay about The Role of Violence and Television
Television and Violence
One of the increasing problems in today`s society is the violence caused by watching too much
television. In 1950`s only 10% of American households had television, but today that number reached
higher levels and 99% of households own one or more. Television is most of the time amusement and
entertainment for many young people, especially children. Television itself has an impact on everyone.
Some researches show that television has good sides and that can be entertaining and educational at
the same time, where children learn more about cultures, places, and they use their knowledge when
it`s necessary. Yet we need to remember that only certain programs are carrying positive messages
which affect children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, some see television as an unhealthy imposition into a child s learning process, substituting
easy pictures for the discipline of reading and concentrating and transforming the young viewer into a
hypnotized non thinker (Langone 48). Children while growing up and spending 4 5 hours in front of
television everyday will imitate aggressive acts shown on TV. The only solution to this is to prevent it
at the beginning. Parents can certainly control how much television their children will have on daily
basis. Television should not be in every room of the house, especially children`s room, where they
have the opportunity to watch shows while parents are busy doing other stuff. Those violent acts
certainly can be reduced by control which starts at the beginning instead of waiting until everyone is
helpless to improve the situation.
Perhaps one of the crucial problems is the possibility of developing the lack of social skills. Children,
while spending time at home in front of television tend to develop anti social skills, which will affect
their future and their entire life. Watching television shows, in most cases replaces activities that
children should be doing at their age. Instead of reading, learning, playing with their friends, doing
chores, having a physical activity, they sit at home. This way of antisocial activity affects family too,
because

The Slavery Of The Slave Trade
Africa s has obtained a poor representation of its deep past, during the past couple of weeks we have

result, we will focus on five maps and a few readings that have proven Africa s deep past has had
inquired and false truths.
Overall, Africa earns very little recognition for its past, the past that has been hidden. Map 7 gives you
a few examples of how Atlantic slave trade came to be. What would be significant about it is that the

Asthma Action Plan
An asthma action plan is a written guideline made by a doctor to enable the asthmatic people to
control the disease. It includes the daily prescription. It shows the danger signs that need to call the
doctor or visiting the emergency room. Among children, it is important that the action plan is issued to
parents, teachers, day care workers among other adults who are in charge of the kids (Holt, n.d.). For
students to understand a classmate who is asthmatic, they have to be generally exposed to the

Paradise Lost Literary Analysis
This paper will argue that the blending of ancient and modern literary ideas is significant to Milton s
goal of being considered one of the great poets, as his writing style emulates that of older texts, he
repeated references stories written by those great authors, and the fact that his book is about the
creation of everything. First, I will talk about the way Milton writes Paradise Lost. This is significant,
as his writing style is similar to Virgil, an ancient Roman Poet. Next, I will discuss Milton s idea of the
gods of old in the Christian world, and how this idea links the ancient texts to what he is writing.
Finally, I will discuss Milton s choice of topic, his choice of plot points, and how it relates to his goal
of being among the greatest poets. By emulating the writing styles of other famous epics, written by
authors of the past, Milton hoped to place himself amongst them. An example of his emulation is the
extended similes that he uses. Extended similes, or epic similes, go as far back as Homer s epics.
Milton uses these more frequently and includes more detail than those in older texts. For example, he
compares Satan s arrival in Eden to the smell of a fish (Book 4, 166). Shortly after, he compares Eden
to the field where Proserpine gathered flowers, a Roman goddess who was kidnapped by the god of
death. These similes seem to be simple comparisons, meant to improve the text, but, in actuality, these
similes go much deeper. Looking at the second simile,

Waterfall Model Is Based On Sequential Process
Waterfall model is based on sequential process that is used in software development process. It takes
place in steps. It is called as waterfall because it moves step by step in downward direction. As seen in
manufacturing and construction site, each process is well structured and carried out step by step, in
software development Waterfall model carries out all phases in sequential manner. All the phases like
Conception, Initiation, Analysis, Design, Construction, Testing, Implementation and Maintenance are
carried out in a sequential manner, step wise. It is stated that the first formal description of Waterfall
model was made in 1970 in the article written by Winston W. Royce. Though the first use of waterfall
model was made in 1976 in the article written by Bell and Thayer.

Spiral model is another alternative process that is used in software development cycle. It is more
focused on risk analysis. It is based on unique risk pattern that is adopted by the software. It can adopt
any of the software development process such as incremental, evolutionary prototype and waterfall
model. This method was introduced in 1986 in paper written by Barry Boehm. This model has four
phases Planning, Risk Analysis, Engineering and Evolution. At each progress the software project has
to be passed through all these four phases. The baseline spiral is reference for each other subsequent
spirals. The baseline spiral starts with the planning

Electronic Engineering Technician Job Analysis
In the world as we know it today, technology has evolved in a way that it has become an everyday
necessity, an integral part of our daily lives. Although this is the case, most people do not know the
basic fundamentals of how this technology works. Many people do not know how to repair and
troubleshoot the basic things they need. This is why we need electronics engineering technicians.
Electrical and electronics engineering technicians help engineers design and develop computers,

For electronics engineering technicians, the job outlook from 2016 2026 is 2 percent to 4 percent,
which is slower than average (BLS). This could be due to the fact that the economy is changing, and
the fact that we are using more machines to build things for us, rather than people. Also, electronics
engineering technicians can expect to earn a middle class income, especially after they have a few
years of experience. Most electrical and electronics engineering technicians earned between $35,880
and $87,840 in May 2014. The average wage for these professionals was $60,330 (Learn.org).
Depending on many factors, like the employer and lifestyle, you can live a comfortable live with this

One negative component of computers is that hackers often find methods to penetrate the information
barriers. Homeland security agencies are trying to secure the national computer with programs that
target individual computer owners, corporate computer networks, internet service providers, and

to reduce the vulnerability of computer systems. Hackers usually try to harm computers by placing
viruses or worms in them, but the US CERT program helps reduce the damage of these viruses and

Analysis Of Gulliver s Travels Essay
Gulliver and the Grotesque
The term scatological means to have an interest or preoccupation with the obscene. In his book,
Gulliver s Travels, it is hard to miss the various references that its author, Johnathan Swift, makes
concerning bodily functions. Yet, this is more than the bawdy, juvenile toilet humor one would
encounter in a cheeky T.V. show but has a literary purpose. Scatology is used to define the literary
trope of the grotesque body. Through the realist perspective Swift employs scatology as a means of
satire. This invokes Swift s contemporary politics. He uses it to draw attention to Gulliver s humanity,
balancing out the strangeness of the lands Gulliver visits. Realism in literature, refers generally to any
artistic or literary portrayal of life in a faithful, accurate manner, unclouded by false ideals, literary
conventions, or misplaced aesthetic glorification and beautification of the world. It is a theory or
tendency in writing to depict events in human life in a matter of fact, straightforward manner. It is an
attempt to reflect life as it actually is. Swift uses the daily grotesque and bodily functions to both
connect his audience and provoke disgust in them. By employing a blasé attitude when using this
device, Swift manages to create a novel that has both realist aesthetic and the fantastical grotesque. He
accomplishes this because the grotesque is simply an exaggeration of reality. Swift also creates the
character of Gulliver, a realist character

Mentally Retarded Criminals Should Face the Death Penalty...
On June 26, 1989, the United States Supreme Court, in the case of Penry v. Lynaugh, upheld the
imposition of the death penaklty on a mentally retarded offender, John Penry (Chan 1211). The Court,
also, held that the Federal Constitution s eighth amendment s cruel and unusual punishment clause is
not violated by the execution of mentally retarded defendants (Cook 869). I strongly concur with the
United States Supreme Court s decision. I do not believe that mentally retarded defendants should be
categorically exempt from the death penalty because of their retardation. I hold this position because

High reliabilities are especially needed for tests used for individual assessment such as in court cases
(Sattler 26).
Each IQ test incorporates a standard error of measurement, which is the variation between the
obtained score and the true score. This difference is sometimes as much as fifteen points. Thus, the IQ
score obtrained by a defendant is only one of many possible scores that may be achieved with
different sample questions or the same questions at a different time (Rumley 1334). Should a mentally
retarded defendant with an IQ of 70 be exempt from the death penalty when his score could range
anywhere from 85 to 55? I vehemently believe that a blanket exemption from the death penalty
because of an unreliable IQ score is wrong. In addition, Grossman states that the IQ s of mentally
retarded persons do not remain constant. Studies have shown great fluctuation in IQ scores for such
reasons as fatigue or illness. Numerous studies indicate that motivational factors can affect IQ scores
(Grossman 26 27). Certainly a defendant facing the death penalty would be highly motivated to do
poorly on an IQ test knowing that a score of 70 or below could save him from the death penalty.
Although the reliability of IQ test results is questionable, many states including Georgia, Tennessee,
Kentucky, Maryland, and New Mexico have enacted legislation categorically prohibiting the
execution of defendants who have an IQ of 70 or below

Citizen Kane Techniques
Citizen Kane
Citizen Kane is often called the greatest film ever made. Its use of film techniques often taken for
granted nowadays were completely new and had not been done before. Simple things like ceilings on
the sets and realistic scenes such as the newsreel, which would not stand out in a modern film, were
combined to make a film full of innovative techniques. The director, Orson Welles, developed the use
of deep focus to make the flat cinema screen almost become three dimensional, which added a realism
that had not been explored before.
Right from the start, a viewer can see the innovation displayed by Welles. The opening scene, one of
the most famous in the entire film, begins with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This happens just as Kane dies, so it is both a signal that he has passed away, and a metaphor of the
light of life going out.
The opening scene also contains the first instance of something being viewed through a piece of glass
and of just the reflection of what is going on being seen, in this case, both at once. These techniques
make the audience unsure of what they are seeing and are used at other times throughout the film.
Realism is a major reason why Citizen Kane stands out from other films of the time. However, it is the
way realism and theatrical effects are mixed together that truly marks it out as one of the greatest films
ever made. Ceilings on the set allowed for scenes lit by normal lightbulbs, giving the appearance of
real rooms, but the theatrical spotlights through the windows in the newsreel showing room and the
library highlight parts of the scenery, leaving others in shadow.
The people working on Citizen Kane went to great lengths to get authentic looking film for the
newsreel. It was degraded using sand to give a grainy look as opposed to the smooth film used for the
main picture. Also in the newsreel, the jerky cuts, when Kane spills cement on his coat then is shown
clean, give a more genuine feel to the footage. The newsreel scene can also be viewed as a parody of

Our concentration will be fast service with a quality product, but we also plan to acquire new
customers who prefer a sit down meal.
As for our market segmentation the concentration will be on teens, young adults, and parents. Since
teens don t typically cook a lot we believe that there should be a chance for success in this area
because we are offering quality products at a cheap price. The same could be said about the young
adults as they could be new into the work force and looking to get the most food for the price and this
is something that we will be able to provide for them. With all of this being said our main focus will
still be with parents and families. This is because we want to gain customers at a young age and hope
to maintain these customers for the period of their entire lives. If our business is able to obtain life
long customers it is sure to be a success and this is what we are looking for with our business.
Positioning Statement To provide the best meal possible, while maintaining our speed of service and
friendliness of the crew.
While it is our main goal to be fast, accurate, and friendly we also want to make sure that the quality is
there with our products as this will build repeat business for our restaurant.
Offering to customers Fast food service with excellent customer service with a smile. The idea is to be
welcoming to customers of all ages and especially to children.

2015, pg. 1814).
Qualitative Research Critique II 3 The data were analyzed with the constant comparative method to

individually. After they completed the three focus groups, they then compared their codes and
discussed them until a consensus was reached. They continued with several more focus groups before
coming to conclusion of grouping all codes together. This is where their hypotheses data was formed.
The results from this study formed three themes which included anticipatory fear for suffering of
others, feeling unconnected or connected, and learning from others. (Schellenkens Jansen, 2015, pg.

facing other clients dealing with the same disease before the study began. Throughout the study, the

Reentry Is The Process Of Returning
Reentry is the process of returning. The term typically refers to a person who leaves their home
environment and after a period of time, returns to that home environment. The majority of reentry
literature finds itself within the field of cultural geography. It considers the reentry process for the
sojourner, the missionary, the tourist, and the student on a study abroad program. The term, reentry,
initially stems from the process of returning to Earth from space, and was utilized in reference to the
astronaut training program (Becker, 1961). The majority of reentry literature focuses on cultural
repatriates or sojourners, and those who have spent significant time, typically longer than six months,
outside of their home environment, and includes students in study abroad programs, Peace Corps
volunteers and missionaries (Adler, 1981; Sussman, 1986; Suzkudlarek, 2010; Ward Kennedy, 1993;
Ward Kennedy, 1994). Reentry literature has expanded to encompass a variety of contexts, including
prisoners who finish their sentence and return to society, soldiers who return from war or combat
training, domestic or international tourists, and people returning from expeditions. In order to fully
understand the bigger picture of reentry, this paper considers reentry from various lenses and fields of
discipline. More so, the psychological, sociological, cultural, sociocultural, and environmental
influences within the context of reentry are also something to consider. This paper will take

Autumn Rhythm, By Robert Rauschenberg, And Marilyn Diptych
Abstract Expressionism began in the 1940s and the 1950s in New York after World War II from the
ideas of Surrealism about art that looks to examining the unconscious mind, and the feelings people
hold that makes us all humans. Through the discussion of Autumn Rhythm (Number 30) by Jackson
Pollock, I will define Abstract Expression and why this work is part of this movement. Then, through
the discussion of Canyon by Robert Rauschenberg, Target with Plaster Casts by Jasper Johns, and
Marilyn Diptych by Andy Warhol, I will explain Assemblage and Pop Art and why each of these
works belong to those movements. Autumn Rhythm (Number 30) is Jackson Pollock s most famous
piece that shows action painting, a defining technique of Abstract Expressionism, and his innovative
drip painting technique he developed in 1940. Pollock created his piece by placing the canvas on the
floor, then he used brushes, or even his hands and started to drip the paint on the surface. His distinct
technique of painting makes him absorbed in the creation of his art piece without being aware of what
he is doing. Therefore, Pollock is free from realism and from his own self through painting because it
relieves his anxiety now that he is focused only on his art. Pollock s work is classified as non objective
because Autumn Rhythm (Number 30) cannot be related to any recognizable object from real life, so
he is not constraint by reality, but goes outside the box as if liberated to soar free and paint from his

French And Indian War Dbq Essay
The French and Indian war (1754 1763) commonly known as the seven year war. The war was
between New France and the colonies of British America. The reason for the war was for control of
North America and the fur trade. The Treaty of Paris was the treaty that marked the ending of the
French and Indian War. The treaty gave the British control over the area west of the thirteen colonies
to the Mississippi River. Which made France lose all its properties on North American land. The
French and Indian War changed the relationship between Britain and its American colonies because
the war empowered Britain to be more vigorous in colonial political and economic matters by
imposing regulations and collecting taxes unfairly on the colonies, which then caused the colonists to
change their ideology from acceptance to resentment toward Britain. The French and Indian War
changed the political relationship between Britain and its American Colonies because after the war
British colonies got land from the French. (Doc A) Since most of the land belonged to the British,
there were often disagreements ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the 1760 s onward, colonial rage grows as the British pass a series of taxes and laws. They were
low on money from the expenses made from the war and thought a solution would be to tax the
colonists in order to get money. An example of taxing the colonists is the stamp act that was passed in
1765. The stamp act was a tax that made the colonist pay a tax on all piece of printed paper. (Doc H)
In order to get a stamp the colonists had to pay a collector. The colonists then had mobs to frighten the
stamp collectors and burned their house taking all their hatred out on them in order for the collectors
to resign. The colonists claimed that the act was unconstitutional and with all their protest it was

Analysis Of Le Chinois Galant
Le Chinois Galant
Le Chinois Galant, is a breathtaking oil painting that was created by a famous artist in the 18th century
of the name Francois Boucher. This stunning painting conveys the modern era that is of china. This
canvas of which this painting was painted on was fitted onto a Rococo frame as seen in The David
Collection located at Copenhagen, Denmark; that was photographed by Pernille Klemp. The
dimensions for the canvas are forty one inches by fifty seven inches. In this art piece oil paint was
used on linen canvas to help create different shades of blue color, adding not only more of a vibrant
effect but also portraying a mood to the painting. By applying the oil paint, it gave the benefit of
making the surface of the painting more smooth. The smoothness of the paint reflected gave more
contrast to the painting. The subject manifested within the painting is one in which a man is courting
the woman to ultimately making love to one another. It seems as though the man and woman are in a
garden that is quiet and contained within the garden is a statue of Buddha hinting at possibly the loss
of innocence. The main purpose of Francois Boucher s canvas, Le Chinois Galant, was to demonstrate
the cultural influence of the Chinese on the European after both cultures started trading goods in
beginning of the fifteenth century.
In Le Chinois Galant many type of formal elements that clearly displayed with the help of different
principles of designs incorporated in this

Fritz Haber s Accomplishments
Fritz Haber was a Jewish scientist that used his knowledge of science in ways that effected our world.
He led the push for inventing chemicals that he thought would be beneficial for Germany to use
during WWI. He is known as the father of chemical warfare , scientist of death or the immoral
scientist due to the tremendous amount of pain, suffering and death that he caused. Haber s immense
sense of nationalism led him to making many ambiguous decisions. The long term effects of Haber s
inventions were negative and many people lost their lives because of him. Haber s talent in science led
him to create weapons that were very destructive. He created chlorine gas that he believed would help
Germany advance in WWI. By the spring of 1915, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They convulsed in pain, tearing at their throats. Pus and phlegm filled their lungs. Yellow mucous
frothed from their mouths before they coughed out blood. Their faces twisted in agony, they drowned
on the land. Terrified by this new horror, many Allied soldiers ran, leaving a six kilometer gap in the
line (Barach N.P.). Soldiers endured excruciating pain when this lethal gas was released onto the
battlefield. Due to a gap that was left in the line, Haber s plan to gain an advance was unsuccessful.
Fritz Haber got his way. On April 22nd, he made hell worse (Barach N.P.). The war was already very
devastating and Haber s introduction of chlorine gas made the war even more tragic. The explosives
he was manufacturing were horrific enough, but his work on poison gas had already killed German
troops in test runs (Barach N.P.). Haber was not only demolishing thousands of people on the
opposing side, but he was also killing his own men that he was dependent on to succeed in the war.
Further weapons of industrial warfare were developed. For three more years the war dragged on until
no more blood could be shed. At 11am on November 11th, 1918, the last shots of The Great War were
fired. Germany was defeated.

Masculinity In Shakespeare s Time
Masculinity is not something given to you, but something you gain. And you gain it by winning small
battles with honor (Mailer, n.d). This quote by Norman Mailer faultlessly describes masculinity in a
way that should be considered and reflected on by the majority of people in our society today.
Masculinity may be difficult to understand, but as humans, we have the access and ability to discover
and examine all the possible meanings of masculinity by different scholars, academics, peers and even
through theatre to discover the true meaning of such ideologies we choose to identify ourselves with.
William Shakespeare is an extremely perceptive and suggestive author who is rich in his writing.
Although Shakespeare s writing is not solely a dialogue on women s studies, it does nonetheless share
and consists of issues in women s studies and gender ideology. Not only does Shakespeare reflect, he
occasionally supports the English Renaissance stereotypes of men and women and the ... Show more

However, when reflecting upon the character Orsino, one may begin to question this. A significant
attribute that exemplified masculinity was the Renaissance Beard. Sexual differences and appearances
in the early modern period have differed significantly in society s matters of these distinctions today.
In the Renaissance period, facial hair often granted masculinity as the beard made the man (Fisher,
2009). The array of male features and prosthetic body parts such as the genitals can definitely
distinguish the differences between male and female, however, in the Renaissance period, something
as simple as the growth of a beard will signify manhood. Therefore, it is obvious that masculinity can
be presented through a combination of

Levi Jordan Plantation Essay
The Plantation
The Levi Jordan Plantation was established in 1848 and was abandoned in 1888, probably because of
mistreatment by Levi Jordan. Some artifacts that were found on the plantation included coins, rings,
bone saw frame, and a slave tag. Some caches were found, and in them were shells, animal bones,
wine bottles, copper, cast iron pans, grapes, and tobacco pipes. Pots were also found next to the
hearth, in what is thought to be the Blacksmith s Cabin. The heath was probably used to bake clay and
for warmth;it was the center of activity in the cabin. In the blacksmith s cabin, bullet molds, metal
tools, arrowheads, and some toys were found, leading people to believe that there were children there.
The arrowheads were probably not used for hunting because they had guns, and it s much harder to
hunt with a bow than guns. It is thought that they might have been used to make the bullets the right
shape, as they were found next to the bullets. Some animal remains found on the plantation led people
to believe that the guns were not just used for war, but also for hunting. Another type of thing that was

On the Levi Jordan Plantation ceramic shards have been found next to what is thought to be a hearth

Blacksmiths will sometimes make pots, but most of the time they used iron or aluminum. Pots are
made from clay, which can be found anywhere near a river. Then the clay is fired, to dry it after it has
been shaped (most of the time by hand, but in modern times on a pottery wheel). A couple of countries
who were the first to make clay pots were, Czech Republic, Japan, and China. Clay was a very

Birth Order Research Paper
Being the youngest child of a family cannot be easy with the constant comparison to the older
siblings. Not only are firstborn siblings known for being smarter than other siblings that come along
but they get a physical advantage also. Studies have shown a lot about how birth order affects the
oldest and youngest sibling, but as for the middle child, they have seemed to puzzle researchers. Some
researchers seem to believe the order of birth is almost as important as genetics. Researchers also go
as far to say that no two children have the same set of parents due to the way parents are different with
each child.
According to Jeffery Kluger in his writings about birth order, firstborns, in most cases are smarter than
the rest of their siblings that come along, resulting in an average of a 3 point IQ advantage over the
next child that comes along. Firstborns tend to be overly responsible, reliable, and very well behaved
because they get so much control and attention ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

according to their personality test they score higher on agreeableness than any of their other siblings.
Being the youngest sibling causes a different view of their family system as the middle or the eldest,
and they try to change it. While the eldest sibling uses high power strategies to get their way, younger
siblings use low power strategies, and one of the major strategies is humor. Humor is a low power
strategy for the youngest because who can resist someone who can make them laugh, this is why they

Phineas Gage Dualism
In the discussion of the human mind and how it actually works, there are a few distinct philosophical
concepts that many believe to be an accurate diagnosis. Three of these views are Dualism,
Physicalism, and Functionalism. They each portray a different view on how the mind functions in
some cases physically or even mentally and separate from the actual human brain. perfect way to
exam these approaches is to take an in depth look at the interesting case of Phineas Gage. Gage, born
in 1823, was a railroad construction worker in the northeastern region of the United States. On
September 13th in 1848, Gage was working on a railroad project in the state of Vermont and was

These three Body Mind views present possible ways to examine the accident that Phineas Gage
suffered an entire change in personality from. Physicalism presents the best argument for explaining
the Gage case. If everything is physical it is certainly logical for the personality and thought processes
of a human to change after enduring an entirely physical injury. Physicalism suggests that everything
about human beings can be explained just by looking at the pure physical processes of the body and
specifically the brain, so clearly it presents a sound argument for why Gage endured such a drastic
change in who he actually was. Gage according to dualism may have had the same mind, but
according the physicalism certainly did not have the same brain and therefore, to quote his coworkers,

Upton Sinclair and the Chicago Meat-Packing Industry
Upton Sinclair and the Chicago Meat packing Industry In 1900, there were over 1.6 million people
living in Chicago, the country s second largest city. Of those 1.6 million, nearly 30% were immigrants.
Most immigrants came to the United States with little or no money at all, in hope of making a better
life for themselves. A city like Chicago offered these people jobs that required no skill. However, the
working and living conditions were hazardous and the pay was barely enough to survive on. This is
the bases for Upton Sinclair s book, The Jungle. Sinclair agreed to investigate working conditions in
Chicago s meatpacking plants, for the Socialist journal, Appeal to Reason, in 1904. The Jungle,
published in 1906, is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Critics view Sinclair as a muckraker, a talented progressive journalist and reformer with no literary
technique whatsoever. Although Sinclair s accurate descriptions were amazing, he fell short in his
character development and plot. The main character, Jurgis Rudkus, went through an implausible
number of extreme changes in the period of time the story takes place. He morphs from a pure hearted
family man, to an alcoholic tramp, a beggar, a criminal, a player in machine politics, and finally a
sober, hard core member of the Socialist Party. The other characters are hardly worth mentioning.
Readers really don t care much about them because they are so under developed. Much like the main
character, the plot is all over the place, yet it doesn t seem to go anywhere. There is no hope for the
characters in The Jungle. Anytime things start to get better for them, something else comes along to
bring them back down. It s a constant rollercoaster ride between death and existence. The problem
with the plot is most noticeable in the last four chapters of the book. Sinclair was writing this book for
a Socialist publication, but hadn t said much about socialism up to this point and didn t really know
how to end the book. Therefore, these last four chapters are dedicated to the Socialist cause. Sinclair
switches from describing actual events, to describing the theoretical

Humorous On Command Analysis
This is going to be a tough paper
Asking me to be humorous on command is pretty hard. I could write about all the embarrassing things
I have done, but it would fill up a couple more pages than I really want to do. Plus those pages would
be something I really wouldn t let anyone see. It would be way too embarrassing and i would have to
move states again. It s not that I m a dry, boring, and unhumorous politician, it s just that asking me to
be funny on command is gonna take me completely off guard. So off guard in fact I will think way too
hard about what to write on this paper, Because that s just who I am. Im thinking im gonna have an
easier time paying my tuition than I will writing a paper like this. It s too bad I have to do both. I could
joke about the current state of politics all day, but I think it would be rather offensive to do that here,
so I won t. I could joke about small events ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It makes me seize up and my brain hits a brick wall and just deflates. The longer it takes the worse it
gets obviously, so if i don t come up with a witty remark directly afterwards a comment, I surely will
when I recreate the argument in my head in the shower the very next day. Imagine Improv with
anxiety. It s kind of like a deer caught in headlights.
I think the worst and best part of all of this though is that i m writing with my own kind of humour.
Humour that may not really appeal to other people. Humour that may get me an F since i m clearly
stretching the idea of writing with humour. Humour that i m not sure is super outlandishly akward or
actually somewhat chucklesome but is humour all my own. Which is what makes this assignment
difficult since everyone has a different standard of humour. What some of my classmates may find
funny I might not and vice versa. So while i would give myself a heart A double plus for this paper
others might not find it so

Though, it should be the standard that an individual is presumed to be an organ donor unless they opt
out at some point prior to their death. An approach that was successfully implemented in Spain. Also,
in 1989, the Spanish created the Organization for National Transplantation (ONT), which places
trained administrators in hospitals to not only be able to identify organ donors but spend time with
families to increase the likelihood of consent for the deceased. Spain s model allows for families to be
asked to confirm that their loved one s did not opt out at some point prior to their death. Therefore, if
they refuse then their decision will be respected. Their model has decreased family refusals from 40
70% in the 1990 s to approximately 15% in 2006. As it currently stands, many countries around the
globe, including the United States, have the contrary. One is presumed to not want to donate their
organs unless an individual registers for organ donation. This feels quite antiquated and we should be
following in Spain s footsteps to change to a presumed consent system, which also ultimately allows
one s family to have veto power. This would not only be a step in the right direction, because as
proven, individuals and families would be more willing to consent and could possibly help reduce the

  • 2. Egger s Corruption In Zeitoun By reading the recent news stories of Zeitoun and his ex wife Kathy, my perception of him was extremely skewed as I read Zeitoun. Rather than viewing him as the heroic and invincible man that he was, I found myself constantly looking forward to the abusive man he is, ignoring the courageous acts he had accomplished. He originally comes off as a fearless, valiant man in the novel Zeitoun, but now he is a criminal. This alteration was provoked. The current actions of Zeitoun enhance Eggers purpose and prove to be a primary consequence of the corruption he had experienced. David Eggers wrote the novel, Zeitoun to dismantle the strong façade of the United and to reveal that when aid was needed most, the government only managed to worsen conditions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rather than escaping disaster and fleeing New Orleans, he decided to sacrifice his safety and guard his city. Zeitoun felt as if he had been called to stay, that God knew he would be of service if he remained. His choice to stay in the city had been God s will (Eggers110). Excerpts such as this one illustrate Zeitoun as an extremely religious and valiant man. He put others before himself and took responsibilities into his own hands. However, when Zeitoun was placed in Camp Greyhound, his valiant character slowly began to fade. Due to mistreatment, Zeitoun, the valiant hero, began to waste away; he knew the conditions had begun to take a very real toll on his psyche. He had been angry until now, but he had been thinking clearly. Now the connections were more tenuous...It diminished the humanity in all of them (Eggers236). Eggers further displayed Zeitoun s diminishing mental stability when he was placed in a maximum security unit at Hunt s correctional center. Eggers wrote, ...he had been confined twenty three hours a day to his cell...The environment would drive any sane man mad (Eggers264). However, as we look towards Zeitoun s actions after he was released, he appeared to be okay, despite his desire to work himself for hours more than usual. The only noticeable mental issues that were a result of his mistreatment were displayed within Kathy s character. Eggers included that Kathy s test results pointed to ... • 3. Antigone Moral Dilemma Antigone s Moral Dilemma Margaret Walsh South University Online Antigone s Moral Dilemma Perhaps the most pronounced question in the play Antigone by Sophocles is the value of human law vs. divine law. In this tragic play a newly appointed king Creon declares to his people that treason was committed during battle, and one of the two brothers (Polyneices) killed shall not be buried according to the Gods, but instead He shall be left unburied for all to watch the corpse mutilated and eaten by carrion birds and by dogs (Sophocles, 1900.). This dilemma is felt by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Antigone answers no to all that she finds to be vile, I have longer to please the dead than please the living here: in the kingdom down below I ll lie forever (Sophocles, 1900. Lines 88 90). These lines show how much personal power she possesses compared to King Creon. Antigone remains consistent, even contentious in her disobedience. By offending the king, it is as if Antigone is leaving him no choice and his prideful ways force him to sustain her sentence. After Creon realizes that fulfilling his order may be a mistake , he also knows that he cannot retract the ordering of her death. He had surrendered his actions to the power of the state, and thus rendering himself to a loathsome state. Unlike Antigone, who finds free will and faith in the laws of the god s. Playwrights such as Sophocles attempt to understand the meaning of human suffering and reexamine the many traditions and ideals from the past. Greek mythology questions the public and private responsibilities of individuals. As in any circumstance fighting against what is valued as right can become a conflicting power. Antigone s decision to go through this treacherous act alone enabled her to find peace within the divine laws of nature during her time. The act of surrendering to a fate that was unjust prepared her for the desire she clung to despite its unbalanced position. Antigone s fatal removal from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Manufacturers now look at cloud computing as an asset because they can run their products better. The number of businesses and individuals that are investing in cloud computing services is anticipated to grow rapidly. Rapid growth of this nature will have a large impact in the IT industry. This study shows that cloud computing, including mobile computing, is a major contribution to the expansion of output and employment within the IT sector. An improvement in performance is making mobile cloud computing a better choice for consumers. In recent years, changes in the mobile cloud computing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He thinks that manufacturers depend on their mobile devices more than past years (Columbus, 2014). For manufacturers to benefit their mobile devices and take advantage of the automated process, they need to enter in the customer s personality on purchasing products into the system. It is also beneficial to figure out why the customer is purchasing such items (Columbus, 2014). Is mobile cloud computing growing enough to increase the demand for manufacturing jobs? Should businesses use more mobile devices to generate additional manufacturing jobs, or is it as simple as having more mobile devices built for sale by those manufacturing mobile devices? Is mobile cloud computing growing fast enough to increase the demand for mobile devices to generate manufacturing jobs? Further study by Staten, Csorny, and Minnick show why advances in mobile cloud computing exists and the answer is businesses using more mobile devices as stated by Subramanian and Columbus. As a solution, more mobile devices may need to be manufactured in order to keep up with customer orders as mentioned by Columbus. Mobile cloud computing is part of the expansion that is a leading contribution to the increased growth in output and employment in the IT industry. One avenue for mobile cloud computing is that rapid growth is expected to have high in demand service in markets such as software, hardware, and IT outsourcing. The performance of mobile ... • 6. The Animal Protection Movement Of The Nineteenth Century The animal protection movement of the nineteenth century was based on the concept of animal welfare; that is, the moral obligations required by human society. Such morals stem from natural theology, specifically, the Book of Nature, which proposes that humans, the superior beings, should hold dominion over animals, but have mercy, care, and stewardship toward them. From these ideas, the animal protection movement was formed with two responsibilities in mind: first, to address traditional moral concerns, such that an individual pledges to do no harm to animals; and second, to enforce the prevention of cruelty to animals inflicted by others (Fan, 10/28). The first anti cruelty bill was introduced to Parliament in England in 1800 in an attempt to end bull baiting; this initial legislation was the start of a long effort. In 1822, Colonel Richard Martin succeeded in passing a bill to prevent cruelty to livestock (later amended to include ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1875, Cobbe established the National Anti Vivisection Society (NAVS), which combatted medical establishments and their methods for experimentation, influencing future research methods and animal testing. A year later, the Cruelty to Animals Act was passed, establishing England s first attempt to regulate experimentation of animals (Guerrini, 90). In the midst of the anti vivisection legislation, Anna Sewell published Black Beauty, an animal autobiography illustrating the conditions of a working horse in the nineteenth century. Black Beauty exposes the treatment of animals during this time, including the cruelty of accessories such as the bearing rein, a strap restraining the horse s neck, causing damage and pain. • 7. Essay about The Role of Violence and Television Television and Violence One of the increasing problems in today`s society is the violence caused by watching too much television. In 1950`s only 10% of American households had television, but today that number reached higher levels and 99% of households own one or more. Television is most of the time amusement and entertainment for many young people, especially children. Television itself has an impact on everyone. Some researches show that television has good sides and that can be entertaining and educational at the same time, where children learn more about cultures, places, and they use their knowledge when it`s necessary. Therefore, some see television as an unhealthy imposition into a child s learning process, substituting easy pictures for the discipline of reading and concentrating and transforming the young viewer into a hypnotized non thinker (Langone 48). Children while growing up and spending 4 5 hours in front of television everyday will imitate aggressive acts shown on TV. The only solution to this is to prevent it at the beginning. Parents can certainly control how much television their children will have on daily basis. Television should not be in every room of the house, especially children`s room, where they have the opportunity to watch shows while parents are busy doing other stuff. Those violent acts certainly can be reduced by control which starts at the beginning instead of waiting until everyone is helpless to improve the situation. Perhaps one of the crucial problems is the possibility of developing the lack of social skills. Children, while spending time at home in front of television tend to develop anti social skills, which will affect their future and their entire life. Watching television shows, in most cases replaces activities that children should be doing at their age. Instead of reading, learning, playing with their friends, doing chores, having a physical activity, they sit at home. This way of antisocial activity affects family too, because ... • 11. Paradise Lost Literary Analysis This paper will argue that the blending of ancient and modern literary ideas is significant to Milton s goal of being considered one of the great poets, as his writing style emulates that of older texts, he repeated references stories written by those great authors, and the fact that his book is about the creation of everything. First, I will talk about the way Milton writes Paradise Lost. This is significant, as his writing style is similar to Virgil, an ancient Roman Poet. Next, I will discuss Milton s idea of the gods of old in the Christian world, and how this idea links the ancient texts to what he is writing. Finally, I will discuss Milton s choice of topic, his choice of plot points, and how it relates to his goal of being among the greatest poets. By emulating the writing styles of other famous epics, written by authors of the past, Milton hoped to place himself amongst them. An example of his emulation is the extended similes that he uses. Extended similes, or epic similes, go as far back as Homer s epics. Milton uses these more frequently and includes more detail than those in older texts. For example, he compares Satan s arrival in Eden to the smell of a fish (Book 4, 166). Shortly after, he compares Eden to the field where Proserpine gathered flowers, a Roman goddess who was kidnapped by the god of death. These similes seem to be simple comparisons, meant to improve the text, but, in actuality, these similes go much deeper. Looking at the second simile, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Analysis Of Gulliver s Travels Essay Gulliver and the Grotesque The term scatological means to have an interest or preoccupation with the obscene. In his book, Gulliver s Travels, it is hard to miss the various references that its author, Johnathan Swift, makes concerning bodily functions. Yet, this is more than the bawdy, juvenile toilet humor one would encounter in a cheeky T.V. show but has a literary purpose. Scatology is used to define the literary trope of the grotesque body. Through the realist perspective Swift employs scatology as a means of satire. This invokes Swift s contemporary politics. He uses it to draw attention to Gulliver s humanity, balancing out the strangeness of the lands Gulliver visits. Realism in literature, refers generally to any artistic or literary portrayal of life in a faithful, accurate manner, unclouded by false ideals, literary conventions, or misplaced aesthetic glorification and beautification of the world. It is a theory or tendency in writing to depict events in human life in a matter of fact, straightforward manner. It is an attempt to reflect life as it actually is. Swift uses the daily grotesque and bodily functions to both connect his audience and provoke disgust in them. By employing a blasé attitude when using this device, Swift manages to create a novel that has both realist aesthetic and the fantastical grotesque. He accomplishes this because the grotesque is simply an exaggeration of reality. Swift also creates the character of Gulliver, a realist character ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Court, also, held that the Federal Constitution s eighth amendment s cruel and unusual punishment clause is not violated by the execution of mentally retarded defendants (Cook 869). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... High reliabilities are especially needed for tests used for individual assessment such as in court cases (Sattler 26). Each IQ test incorporates a standard error of measurement, which is the variation between the obtained score and the true score. This difference is sometimes as much as fifteen points. Thus, the IQ score obtrained by a defendant is only one of many possible scores that may be achieved with different sample questions or the same questions at a different time (Rumley 1334). Should a mentally retarded defendant with an IQ of 70 be exempt from the death penalty when his score could range anywhere from 85 to 55? I vehemently believe that a blanket exemption from the death penalty because of an unreliable IQ score is wrong. In addition, Grossman states that the IQ s of mentally retarded persons do not remain constant. Studies have shown great fluctuation in IQ scores for such reasons as fatigue or illness. Numerous studies indicate that motivational factors can affect IQ scores (Grossman 26 27). Certainly a defendant facing the death penalty would be highly motivated to do poorly on an IQ test knowing that a score of 70 or below could save him from the death penalty. The term typically refers to a person who leaves their home environment and after a period of time, returns to that home environment. The majority of reentry literature finds itself within the field of cultural geography. It considers the reentry process for the sojourner, the missionary, the tourist, and the student on a study abroad program. The term, reentry, initially stems from the process of returning to Earth from space, and was utilized in reference to the astronaut training program (Becker, 1961). The majority of reentry literature focuses on cultural repatriates or sojourners, and those who have spent significant time, typically longer than six months, outside of their home environment, and includes students in study abroad programs, Peace Corps volunteers and missionaries (Adler, 1981; Sussman, 1986; Suzkudlarek, 2010; Ward Kennedy, 1993; Ward Kennedy, 1994). Through the discussion of Autumn Rhythm (Number 30) by Jackson Pollock, I will define Abstract Expression and why this work is part of this movement. Then, through the discussion of Canyon by Robert Rauschenberg, Target with Plaster Casts by Jasper Johns, and Marilyn Diptych by Andy Warhol, I will explain Assemblage and Pop Art and why each of these works belong to those movements. Pollock created his piece by placing the canvas on the floor, then he used brushes, or even his hands and started to drip the paint on the surface. His distinct technique of painting makes him absorbed in the creation of his art piece without being aware of what he is doing. Therefore, Pollock is free from realism and from his own self through painting because it relieves his anxiety now that he is focused only on his art. The treaty gave the British control over the area west of the thirteen colonies to the Mississippi River. Which made France lose all its properties on North American land. The French and Indian War changed the relationship between Britain and its American colonies because the war empowered Britain to be more vigorous in colonial political and economic matters by imposing regulations and collecting taxes unfairly on the colonies, which then caused the colonists to change their ideology from acceptance to resentment toward Britain. • 30. Analysis Of Le Chinois Galant Le Chinois Galant Le Chinois Galant, is a breathtaking oil painting that was created by a famous artist in the 18th century of the name Francois Boucher. This stunning painting conveys the modern era that is of china. This canvas of which this painting was painted on was fitted onto a Rococo frame as seen in The David Collection located at Copenhagen, Denmark; that was photographed by Pernille Klemp. The dimensions for the canvas are forty one inches by fifty seven inches. In this art piece oil paint was used on linen canvas to help create different shades of blue color, adding not only more of a vibrant effect but also portraying a mood to the painting. By applying the oil paint, it gave the benefit of making the surface of the painting more smooth. The smoothness of the paint reflected gave more contrast to the painting. The subject manifested within the painting is one in which a man is courting the woman to ultimately making love to one another. It seems as though the man and woman are in a garden that is quiet and contained within the garden is a statue of Buddha hinting at possibly the loss of innocence. The main purpose of Francois Boucher s canvas, Le Chinois Galant, was to demonstrate the cultural influence of the Chinese on the European after both cultures started trading goods in beginning of the fifteenth century. • 31. Fritz Haber s Accomplishments Fritz Haber was a Jewish scientist that used his knowledge of science in ways that effected our world. He led the push for inventing chemicals that he thought would be beneficial for Germany to use during WWI. He is known as the father of chemical warfare , scientist of death or the immoral scientist due to the tremendous amount of pain, suffering and death that he caused. Haber s immense sense of nationalism led him to making many ambiguous decisions. The long term effects of Haber s inventions were negative and many people lost their lives because of him. Haber s talent in science led him to create weapons that were very destructive. He created chlorine gas that he believed would help Germany advance in WWI. By the spring of 1915, ... Their faces twisted in agony, they drowned on the land. Terrified by this new horror, many Allied soldiers ran, leaving a six kilometer gap in the line (Barach N.P.). Soldiers endured excruciating pain when this lethal gas was released onto the battlefield. Due to a gap that was left in the line, Haber s plan to gain an advance was unsuccessful. Fritz Haber got his way. On April 22nd, he made hell worse (Barach N.P.). The war was already very devastating and Haber s introduction of chlorine gas made the war even more tragic. The explosives he was manufacturing were horrific enough, but his work on poison gas had already killed German troops in test runs (Barach N.P.). Haber was not only demolishing thousands of people on the opposing side, but he was also killing his own men that he was dependent on to succeed in the war. Further weapons of industrial warfare were developed. For three more years the war dragged on until no more blood could be shed. At 11am on November 11th, 1918, the last shots of The Great War were fired. Germany was defeated. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Masculinity In Shakespeare s Time Masculinity is not something given to you, but something you gain. And you gain it by winning small battles with honor (Mailer, n.d). This quote by Norman Mailer faultlessly describes masculinity in a way that should be considered and reflected on by the majority of people in our society today. Masculinity may be difficult to understand, but as humans, we have the access and ability to discover and examine all the possible meanings of masculinity by different scholars, academics, peers and even through theatre to discover the true meaning of such ideologies we choose to identify ourselves with. William Shakespeare is an extremely perceptive and suggestive author who is rich in his writing. Although Shakespeare s writing is not solely a dialogue on women s studies, it does nonetheless share and consists of issues in women s studies and gender ideology. Not only does Shakespeare reflect, he occasionally supports the English Renaissance stereotypes of men and women and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, when reflecting upon the character Orsino, one may begin to question this. A significant attribute that exemplified masculinity was the Renaissance Beard. Sexual differences and appearances in the early modern period have differed significantly in society s matters of these distinctions today. In the Renaissance period, facial hair often granted masculinity as the beard made the man (Fisher, 2009). The array of male features and prosthetic body parts such as the genitals can definitely distinguish the differences between male and female, however, in the Renaissance period, something as simple as the growth of a beard will signify manhood. Therefore, it is obvious that masculinity can be presented through a combination of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Levi Jordan Plantation Essay The Plantation The Levi Jordan Plantation was established in 1848 and was abandoned in 1888, probably because of mistreatment by Levi Jordan. Some artifacts that were found on the plantation included coins, rings, bone saw frame, and a slave tag. Some caches were found, and in them were shells, animal bones, wine bottles, copper, cast iron pans, grapes, and tobacco pipes. Pots were also found next to the hearth, in what is thought to be the Blacksmith s Cabin. The heath was probably used to bake clay and for warmth;it was the center of activity in the cabin. In the blacksmith s cabin, bullet molds, metal tools, arrowheads, and some toys were found, leading people to believe that there were children there. The arrowheads were probably not used for hunting because they had guns, and it s much harder to hunt with a bow than guns. It is thought that they might have been used to make the bullets the right shape, as they were found next to the bullets. Some animal remains found on the plantation led people to believe that the guns were not just used for war, but also for hunting. Another type of thing that was found near the Levi ... Blacksmiths will sometimes make pots, but most of the time they used iron or aluminum. Pots are made from clay, which can be found anywhere near a river. Then the clay is fired, to dry it after it has been shaped (most of the time by hand, but in modern times on a pottery wheel). • 34. Birth Order Research Paper Being the youngest child of a family cannot be easy with the constant comparison to the older siblings. Not only are firstborn siblings known for being smarter than other siblings that come along but they get a physical advantage also. Studies have shown a lot about how birth order affects the oldest and youngest sibling, but as for the middle child, they have seemed to puzzle researchers. Some researchers seem to believe the order of birth is almost as important as genetics. Researchers also go as far to say that no two children have the same set of parents due to the way parents are different with each child. According to Jeffery Kluger in his writings about birth order, firstborns, in most cases are smarter than the rest of their siblings that come along, resulting in an average of a 3 point IQ advantage over the next child that comes along. • 35. Phineas Gage Dualism In the discussion of the human mind and how it actually works, there are a few distinct philosophical concepts that many believe to be an accurate diagnosis. Three of these views are Dualism, Physicalism, and Functionalism. They each portray a different view on how the mind functions in some cases physically or even mentally and separate from the actual human brain. perfect way to exam these approaches is to take an in depth look at the interesting case of Phineas Gage. Gage, born in 1823, was a railroad construction worker in the northeastern region of the United States. Physicalism presents the best argument for explaining the Gage case. If everything is physical it is certainly logical for the personality and thought processes of a human to change after enduring an entirely physical injury. Physicalism suggests that everything about human beings can be explained just by looking at the pure physical processes of the body and specifically the brain, so clearly it presents a sound argument for why Gage endured such a drastic change in who he actually was. Gage according to dualism may have had the same mind, but according the physicalism certainly did not have the same brain and therefore, to quote his coworkers, was no longer ... • 36. Upton Sinclair and the Chicago Meat-Packing Industry Upton Sinclair and the Chicago Meat packing Industry In 1900, there were over 1.6 million people living in Chicago, the country s second largest city. Of those 1.6 million, nearly 30% were immigrants. Most immigrants came to the United States with little or no money at all, in hope of making a better life for themselves. A city like Chicago offered these people jobs that required no skill. However, the working and living conditions were hazardous and the pay was barely enough to survive on. This is the bases for Upton Sinclair s book, The Jungle. Sinclair agreed to investigate working conditions in Chicago s meatpacking plants, for the Socialist journal, Appeal to Reason, in 1904. Critics view Sinclair as a muckraker, a talented progressive journalist and reformer with no literary technique whatsoever. Although Sinclair s accurate descriptions were amazing, he fell short in his character development and plot. The main character, Jurgis Rudkus, went through an implausible number of extreme changes in the period of time the story takes place. He morphs from a pure hearted family man, to an alcoholic tramp, a beggar, a criminal, a player in machine politics, and finally a sober, hard core member of the Socialist Party. The other characters are hardly worth mentioning. Readers really don t care much about them because they are so under developed. Much like the main character, the plot is all over the place, yet it doesn t seem to go anywhere. There is no hope for the characters in The Jungle. Anytime things start to get better for them, something else comes along to bring them back down. It s a constant rollercoaster ride between death and existence. The problem with the plot is most noticeable in the last four chapters of the book. Sinclair was writing this book for a Socialist publication, but hadn t said much about socialism up to this point and didn t really know how to end the book. Therefore, these last four chapters are dedicated to the Socialist cause. Sinclair switches from describing actual events, to describing the theoretical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Humorous On Command Analysis This is going to be a tough paper Asking me to be humorous on command is pretty hard. I could write about all the embarrassing things I have done, but it would fill up a couple more pages than I really want to do. Plus those pages would be something I really wouldn t let anyone see. It would be way too embarrassing and i would have to move states again. It s not that I m a dry, boring, and unhumorous politician, it s just that asking me to be funny on command is gonna take me completely off guard. So off guard in fact I will think way too hard about what to write on this paper, Because that s just who I am. Im thinking im gonna have an easier time paying my tuition than I will writing a paper like this. It s too bad I have to do both. Humour that may not really appeal to other people. Humour that may get me an F since i m clearly stretching the idea of writing with humour. Though, it should be the standard that an individual is presumed to be an organ donor unless they opt out at some point prior to their death. An approach that was successfully implemented in Spain. Also, in 1989, the Spanish created the Organization for National Transplantation (ONT), which places trained administrators in hospitals to not only be able to identify organ donors but spend time with families to increase the likelihood of consent for the deceased. Spain s model allows for families to be asked to confirm that their loved one s did not opt out at some point prior to their death. Therefore, if they refuse then their decision will be respected. Their model has decreased family refusals from 40 70% in the 1990 s to approximately 15% in 2006. As it currently stands, many countries around the globe, including the United States, have the contrary. One is presumed to not want to donate their organs unless an individual registers for organ donation. This feels quite antiquated and we should be following in Spain s footsteps to change to a presumed consent system, which also ultimately allows one s family to have veto power. This would not only be a step in the right direction, because as proven, individuals and families would be more willing to consent and could possibly help reduce the donor shortage in the United States, and across the ...
