Network Built For Local Area Networks Essay
WANs are systems built for information exchange that connects computers from anywhere in the
world across the globe. A wide area network (WAN) is generally used by large corporations or
organizations. WANs are very useful to these sorts of associations because it easily allows them to
deploy data from their computers to disseminate offices. Large organizations that use multiple
facilities usually end up using WANs. Smaller businesses are increasingly using WANs as well. They
are able to use WANs if they have at least two secluded sites. WAN usually connects two or more
LANs together. LAN stands for local area networks. The internet that we all use is very much
considered a WAN. WANs have existed for many years. They are methodical and controlled much
differently from other types of telecommunication systems. WANs are very similar to LANs because
they serve almost the same purpose. WANs are still a bit more intricate than LANs of course. In order
for a user to use WAN, they first would have to subscribe to a telecommunication providers service.
The organizations that choose to use WANs do not own or control any of the communication lines that
connect the secluded network systems to other computers. WANs are not used to connect individual
computers with each other. They were built to link different LANs together. When the WAN connects
the LANs to each other this is called internetwork. Routers and remote bridges play a part to the
internetwork as

General Court Review
General Court Visit Review The Crown Court was created on January 1, 1972 under the Courts Act of
1971 to substitute the Courts of Assizes (periodic courts held in England and Wales until 1972) and
Quarter sessions (local courts traditionally held at four set times each year in England and Wales
before the Act substituted them and the Assizes with a single permanent crown court). The Crown
court of England and Wales is one of the essential parts of the Senior Courts of England and Wales. It
deals mainly with criminal cases like murder, rape and armed robbery. It also sees to the sentencing
and appeals from the Magistrate court. The Crown Court performs four principal type of activities:

During the trial of Abougoud Khalid, media coverage was not allowed in the courtroom. According to
the court clerk, the El Haidi as too emotional and traumatised as a result of recollecting the events in
which the defendant is being tried. As a result of this, no one in the court except from the officials was
allowed to take videos, record audios and even take down notes during the proceedings. However, one
main disadvantage of court decisions is delay. On the first day of hearing the case against Abougoud
Khalid, the judge specifically told the court that the trial would take a week which ended up takin
longer than expected because of administrative and procedural delays. An example of delays in court
process is that on the first day of trial, the claimant was not in present in court so her side of the story

Bucket List Quotes
Quote 7: (time:4:00 7:35) Typically, we ask is this going to be the event or disease that kills our loved
one. I think it s okay to ask the question, is this what we are going to allow to kill our loved one.
Given the prognosis, what is the goal of the treatment?
Response:
When posed with this question, it would be difficult to answer without considering all possibilities. If
my loved one could live with a quality life eventually or if treatment would prolong life until their
bucket list might be completed, or if unresolved spiritual issues could be resolved, my decision would
be to continue treatment! Having a goal of the treatment ahead certainly would be favorable for
anyone facing a terminal illness. I can see how in some cases of cancer or other terminal diseases, a
loved one may not want to have treatment due to the quality of life that ... Show more content on

Response: Unfortunately, the cost of medical expenses is not cheap. However, how can you put a price
on someone s life. To stop treatment because of finances would be a decision that would need to be
carefully thought through from every direction. To grow old without regrets would always be the goal.
Consequently, wiping out your family would not be the goal that any person would want to achieve. I
believe that it is acceptable to stop treatment if you feel that is the right path for quality of life.
Moreover, it would be devastating to a loved one to think that they were a part of the equation for
ending someone s life. These videos by Dr. Scott Rae have brought to my mind many of questions
about death that I had not considered before. I will still continue to believe that God would give grace
and show Himself mightily when His child effectually, fervently, calls for help. Word count:

How Do Gift Exchanges And Commodity Transactions Shape...
How do gift exchanges and commodity transactions shape your everyday interactions with others?
The flow of gifts and commodities between individuals is a significant aspect of our society as a
whole. Gifts are things, often material objects, that are exchanged between groups or individuals that
have some kind of relationship. The value of this gift is dependent on the nature, significance and
goals of the relationship. Commodities are objects that move between people through transactions
with minimal interaction or attachment. In this piece, I reflect on the way humans in today s society
engage with gifts, commodities and one another, with a particular focus on the celebration of
Christmas.
Gifts are utilised to both maintain and build ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Following that, the recipient is obligated to receive the gift with gratitude and in the correct manner.
Finally, there is an unspoken obligation to reciprocate, though not necessarily immediately.
One of Western society s most significant holidays and gift giving occasions is Christmas, which takes
place annually in late December. Christmas originated as a Christian holiday commemorating the birth
of Jesus Christ. It is, however, celebrated as a cultural tradition by the majority of individuals in
Western society, not just followers of Christianity. It is a public holiday in many countries, often
centers around a festive meal, and the exchange of gifts is tradition. Gifts are not only given between
people with well established relationships, often presents are given to coworkers or teachers for
example. The value of the gift does vary though depending on the extent of the relationship between
the giver and receiver. One is expected to give a very valuable and thoughtful present to their loved
ones, but can give something more generic or cheaper to a person they have less of a connection with.
For example, a mother may give her daughter an heirloom that has been passed down to each
generation or a husband might buy his wife a expensive piece of jewelry. On the other hand, a friend
may give another friend a gift card or money, and coworkers might give one another a box

Ariel Dorfman
I thoroughly enjoyed the message written by Ariel Dorfman in the essay The Black Hole. Stories of
individuals looking back and remembering the past, with a trail of hopes fear, and destruction are
always the stories that truly affect me because they don t just show the strength and vitality of hero in
a fight. Rather, these stories show them being weak, confused and almost hopeless. Ariel doesn t just
tell us about the positives of what he has done, but also the negative effect of what has been done to
those around him by his actions. Ariel was fighting for the freedom of himself, and all of those around
him. He was fighting for everyone that was suppressed by the government. The quote At some point
during that speech I stopped listening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Recently, in the series The Hunger Games. In this series, much like where Ariel lived, people were
told what to do, how to do it and if they rebelled from what the government told them to do they were
severely punished. A correlation would be how District 13 was completely destroyed in The Hunger
Games as was the Balcony in palace of La Moneda in Santiago where Ariel first witnessed President
Salvador Allende speaking. In both situations someone stood up and spoke against the government,
both places were the front, in some individuals minds, for the rebellion. Because of their significance,
both places were destroyed for that act of rebellion. Throughout the essay Ariel tells of us how the
actions made by himself and others were precisely what brought them to the point of being exiled and
killed. This is much the same as the point in The Hunger Games when the main character Katniss
Everdeen and all of District 12 have been forced to flee their homes, because she was the face of the
rebellion. This happened because the government wanted to make a point to any and all people who
thought to stand against them. Just as Ariel s government was making their own

1) What are the ethical issues in this case? There are a few ethical issues in this case, making
genetically engineered food and distributing to the public without the publics knowledge is unethical.
Another ethical issue is not knowing what side affects of the engineered food will do to humans in the
long term. It is still not determined whether or not some of these GM foods will cause health problems
in humans in the long run and should be tested like new drug have to be tested. It seems to me that the
government is not as strict on GM foods like they are on new drugs being tested. 2) Do you think

The disadvantages would be that GM foods will cause the cost of anti GM foods to go down and this
will cause them to farmers of anti GM food to go down making less income in the long run. 4) If you
were crafting GMO public policy, what would you recommend? If I were crafting a GMO policy I
would make all GM food have a mandatory test of at least 7 years to see if there any affects that come
from a genetically manufactured foods, and I would make it mandatory that once the GMO foods are
deemed safe they should be labeled as GMO foods so that public knows what they are eating. Even
though some companies will lose money from lack of business, I believe that all genetically modified
crops should be labeled. Regardless of the positive or negative outcomes, I think we should have a
right to know what s in the food we are eating. Therefore we are responsible for the outcome of the
modified crops and must make mandates that make the GM producers label their foods. So ultimately
we leave up to the public if they want to eat GM products but at least they will know that it is a GM
product with those labels. 5) Do hybrid seeds represent as serious a concern as that represented by GM
foods? What policy would you recommend for hybrid seeds and vegetables? In my opinion yes
because it still has a big concern, the seeds/plants DNA was still messed with, hybrid is like GMO
foods and is unnatural I would stay away from

The government is a minority government since neither of the parties has more than 50 percent of the

landslide win for the PSOE. During previous years, it was always the Popular Party, the conservatives,

Examples Of Poseidon In The Odyssey
What is a villain? Is it a boulder of hate in a sea of kindness, or a person whose heart and world are
filled with darkness? A villain is a person who wants to hurt others or do bad things. The god of the
sea, Poseidon from the Odyssey, by Homer and President Snow from the Hunger Games, by Suzanne
Collins could both be considered villains. President Snow is a greater villain because of his cruelty,
selfishness, and him being uncooperative. President Snow and Poseidon are both insanely cruel but
President Snow is crueller. Aggressive Poseidon, to begin with, is cruel by not letting Odysseus get
home. As explained by Homer, A fierce tempest whipped up a storm so quick that he got carried far
from home, (Homer 8). This shows that Poseidon is cruel because he created a storm that ... Show

Poseidon, to begin with, was selfish because he did not want Odysseus to get home which also
affected Penelope and Telemachus. As stated by Homer, the mast snapped narrowly missing Odysseus
as it fell. (Homer 8). This illustrates that Poseidon is selfish because he tried to kill Odysseus which
would affect people in Ithaca. President Snow, as we move on, was selfish by killing innocent people
because they protested. As shown by the movie, a man protested by holding up two fingers, and was
shot for what he did. Even though some people may think Poseidon is more selfish because he made
his life better but plenty others worse, President Snow is more selfish because he takes people s lives
for little things. President Snow, finally, was also selfish by killing people to entertain others. As stated
by the movie, President Snow is as selfish as a two year old at a toy store because he took a man and
girl from each district to fight (Hunger Games). Even though Poseidon is selfish, President Snow is
more selfish because he kills people s family members for others

Gas Turbine Essay
Gas turbines compete with Steam (Nuclear and Fossil Fuel) power plants to generate power around
the globe. Historically gas turbines have suffered from low levels of efficiency and poor reliability,
resulting in a reliance on the above mentioned alternatives to supply the consumer demand for
electricity. Initial assumptions and original efficiency values will be based on the ideal Brayton Cycle,
by replacing an open cycle Fig.1 with a closed cycle Fig. 2 (Huang Gramoll, n.d.)
This report will identify and discuss the improvements made to the modern day Gas turbine (when
compared against the simple Brayton Cycle Fig. 3), which show the significant progress made in
terms of efficiency.
In order to make gas turbines cost effective there is a need to improve overall cycle efficiency. Gas
turbines fundamentally operate by utilisation of a compressor and turbine to drive a common shaft.
The rotating shaft can then be connected to a generator to provide electricity, a propeller for ships or
the turbine can be utilised to provide propulsion of aircraft. However this report will focus on the gas
turbine within the power generation industry and will look at modifications and improvements in
design which can increase overall efficiency and cost effectiveness. In short the improvements made
to the gas turbine are as follows: Changes to the cycle temperatures Increasing the efficiency of turbo
machinery components Modifications to the basic cycle Cycle Temperature

Comparison Of Fees Must Fall And Black Lives Matter
Fees Must Fall and Black Lives Matter are two astonishing social movements that have expanded over
a course of time. Fees Must Fall originated in South Africa and is known as a movement led by
students convincing government officials to lower university fees in order for the citizens to attend,
while Black Lives Matter is a movement known for promoting black lives and responding to previous
discrimination against black people. Though these movements appear to be the antithesis of each other
because of the two distinct topics, they are similar due to their shared experiences of inequality and
their mutual platform used to help the movements grow larger. Fees Must Fall and Black Lives Matter
both face inequality in the global black community in different ways. Fees Must Fall was a movement
born out the struggle to obtain affordable access to colleges and universities in South Africa. While the
Apartheid is part of the history behind the struggle, it is not the essence of the movement, but it is the
reason why black students can t afford the fees. Fees Must Fall movements protesters are mainly
students that attend Tshwane University of Technology and The University of Fort Hare. Both of these
colleges have a majority of black students and are known as subordinate universities. Black Africans

Newborn Mortality Rates in Ghana and the United States Today
Introduction
It is frequently been suggested that the infant mortality rate (IMR) is a reliable indicator of a country s
civilization and focus on the welfare of its citizens (Berger 2001). Although global infant mortality
rates has shown steady improvement over the past century, many developing countries continue to
experience inordinately high rates compared to the world levels; surprisingly, though, even the United
States which claims to have one of the best healthcare systems in the world continues to experience
relatively high infant mortality rates, higher even than many developing nations (Berger 2001). This
paper will provide an overview of the problem, followed by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This has translated into an overall decline of almost 90 percent (Berger 2001). The majority of this
decline in the IMR has been attributed to improvements related to urban living (for example,
sanitation, pasteurization, improved water and sewage, reduced fertility rates, and improved economic
and educational levels), followed by improved technological and public health strategies (Berger
2001). Infant mortality rates have declined sharply in most developing countries in the past several
decades, just as they did earlier in the developed countries. The reductions in the IMR also resulted
from improvements in the prevention and treatment of diarrhea, which is a major killer of infants in
poor socioeconomic conditions (Zopf 1992). Infant Mortality in Ghana. While Ghana is relatively
small in area and population, the nation is one of the leading countries of Africa, due in part because
of its considerable natural wealth, and because it was the first black African country south of the
Sahara to achieve independence from colonial rule and to embark on its own extensive educational
and industrialization programs. Ghana became independent on March 6, 1957, and is comprised of the
former British colony of the Gold Coast and that part of Togoland which was formerly a UN Trust
Territory under British administration (Fage 2004). The current infant mortality rates for Ghana are

However, what about the majority and common good of the people, like jobs? Murray Dobbin is one
of Canada s most popular progressive political commentators and analysts who explained that,
They influence politicians and political parties with huge amounts of cash; they threaten government
that dare to consider any laws that lessen their power or privilege; they withdraw capital to punish
governments that don t take them seriously; they spend millions on lobbyist to persuade legislators
(Dobbin).
Officials are not required to keep formal records of their contracts with lobbyists, and there is some
scope for lobbyists to avoid registration by claiming that they are merely responding to requests for
information from officials. The government has set up regulations relating to lobbying, but these
regulations are not restricting lobbying, it is making it even more legal. Teeple outlined that,
The process of registering lobbyists began under the Mulroney government in 1989. The Lobbyists
Registration Act essentially puts the onus on lobbyists to register, pay a fee, and list their areas of
interest. By its very principles, the Act legitimizes the role of the lobbying industry (Teeple).
It has to be emphasized that registration is not regulation . Allowing lobbyist to enter parliament

Evolution And Theory Of Evolution
Introduction
Humans have questioned their origins since the beginning of time and in the process, come up with a
variety of theories to answer the age old question, Where do we come from? The theory of evolution
is just one of the many theories written over the centuries that attempts to answer this question;
however, it holds the distinction of being the only theory accepted as scientifically true in today s
world. This paper will discuss the theory of evolution in detail; topics addressed include defining the
theory of evolution and explaining how the theory has evolved over time, as well as highlighting the
theory s strengths and weaknesses and examining how effective the theory is in today s world.
I. Description of the theory The theory of evolution explains how all of the living species on Earth
came to exist as they do today. Credited to Charles Darwin, the theory of evolution states that all the
living species of today humans included evolved over time; we can see evidence of their evolution in
the fossils of now extinct species. In his book Origin of Species, published in 1859, Darwin wrote that
species evolve over time through a mechanism known as natural selection. Basically, each species is
born with a multitude of traits, some more favorable to survival than others. Because some traits
encourage survival more so than others, the animals equipped with those traits tend to breed more than
the animals that lack those traits. Over time, more and more

Stereotypes And Perceptions Of Military Personnel
For many years a great deal of men and women have bravely fought to protect their country, yet those
who have served are often misunderstood. People s perception of military personnel has been mislead
by different experiences they have with them, which is why people have different views on different
people. Stereotypes and misconceptions are used by people to talk about or describe others based on
the limited knowledge they have on the group of people. Stereotypes are a widely believed mental
picture of a group that are based on truth, but are usually exaggerated. This leads someone to infer that
a person has characteristics and abilities just as the rest of the group he or she is associated with has.

Stereotypes and misconceptions can be learned by anyone at any time since there are many sources to
get them from and as long as people are not properly informed about a group stereotypes and
misconceptions will always be out there. Stereotypes are often made by the media and other groups in
order to make society believe what they believe or what they want others to believe which may lead to
the negative way a person thinks about others. These stereotypes and misconceptions can be seen
when news stations talk about military, politics, celebrities, and other subjects. The news can portray
them as bad or good people but it all depends on what benefits them or others. This is why people
have different views on certain groups of people, since some people hear different things than others
there is always different stereotypes or misconceptions regarding another group of people. Stereotypes
and misconceptions of a group from others who know little leads to the bad or good reputation formed
by the misleading statements. For example, movies and documentaries such as 13 Hours and
American Sniper portray Navy Seals as tall and really muscular men. The main characters are almost
always the biggest men and most of them have fully grown beards. In most of the movies these guys
in most cases are the heroes. They do the impossible and win in the most improbable situation, which
is probably why people see Navy Seals as the most lethal men in the Navy. Most people believe that

The And Authority Of The New Testament Canon
The traditional interpretation of the development and authority of the New Testament canon is often a
topic of debate and scrutiny; however, Dr. Michael J. Kruger provided an excellent, well written
justification of how the New Testament canon came to be the 27 books known today. Kruger is
President and the Samuel C. Patterson Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at
Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte, NC. Other publications include The Gospel of the
Savior, The Question of Canon, The Heresy of Orthodoxy, Gospel Fragments, and A Biblical
Theological Introduction to the New Testament. His written work has led him to be known as a
scholar in the origins of the New Testament Canon, in particular writings related to the New Testament
Canon.
For centuries people have been perplexed regarding the books of the New Testament canon. Many
Christians have accepted the 27 books in the New Testament Canon but often cannot provide adequate
justification regarding how the canon was established. In Canon Revisited: Establishing the Origins
and Authority of the New Testament Books, Michael J. Kruger provides readers with a glimpse of this
tough question and his response. He offers the readers a response to succinctly justify their acceptance
and understanding of the New Testament canon. In a few short chapters Kruger articulately confronted
this very difficult topic.
Michael Kruger s book is written in two sections on the topic of the canonical model. Section

First off, the size of the farm will strongly determine the longevity of the farm s success. There are
several different categories of farms and they all have specific criteria to be part of that category. The
broadest of the categories is the small family farm (sales of less than $250,000). Then under this
category is several sub categories which comprise of: limited resource farms (gross sales of less than
$100,000, total farm assets less than $250,000, and total operator house hold income less than
$20,000), retirement farms (small farms with the operator being retired), residential/lifestyle farms
(small farms with the operator having a major occupation other than farming), farming
occupation/lower sales (sales less than $100,000), farming occupation/higher sales (sales between
$100,000 and $249,999). The other types of farms include large family farms and very large family
farms. The final category is non family farm; these types of farms are more like corporations and
cooperatives. The reason why the size of a farm is so important to the success is that it all depends on
the amount of income that is flowing into the farm. The limited resource, retirement, and lifestyle
family farms will have a better chance of prolonging its existence because of its off farm income.
These types of farms do not need to worry as much about low prices and low yields because of the
other source of cash flow. This brings us to the farming occupation with

The Internal Frame Of Mind In Lewis Carroll s Alice In...
George Washington said, Happiness depends more upon the internal frame of a person s own mind,
than on the externals in the world. Alice s frame of mind throughout the entire journey in Wonderland
presented her with foreign challenges. These challenges questioned the way one should handle a new
world being thrust upon them. Alice could take every problem in stride or she could sulk in her
troubles. The choice was hers. When Alice was newly in Wonderland, she faced the challenge of
becoming the correct size to fit through the doorway. When she went back to the table for it, she found
she could not possibly reach it; she could see it quite plainly through the glass, and she tried her best
to climb up one of the legs of the table, but it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the King. Nearly two miles high, added the Queen. Well, I shan t go at any rate, said Alice: besides
that s not a regular rule: you invented it just now. (112). At this point in the book, the reader sees that
Alice is no longer the little girl who cried when she did not fit through the door. She is now a
confident girl who stands up for herself. This moment in the book shows the pinnacle of Alice s
growth as a person and the growth of her mind frame. Throughout Through the Looking Glass, Alice
becomes more comfortable in standing up for herself and knowing how to figure out the situations

Queen would react to others ordering people around.

What Is The Beauty Of The Beast Vs Beauty And The Beast
The story of a girl who is held hostage by a frightening beast and then ends up falling in love with him
is a tale as old as time. The live action version of the 1991 animated classic, Beauty and the Beast, is
more than that though. The story portrayed in the live action film follows that of the animated version
almost exactly. This musical romantic fantasy film, directed by Bill Condon, features an outstanding
cast, which includes Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, and Josh Gad, among others. The
motion picture is able to bring the animated movie to life even more so than one could imagine.
Beauty and the Beast is a story about a pampered prince (played by Dan Stevens) who, because of his
arrogance, is cursed and thus gets turned into a hideous beast. He can only be returned to his human
form if someone is able to love him, and, in turn, he is able to learn to love. Thanks to the actual
human actors in the live action film, the producers are able to portray this essential piece of the story
well. The other main character, Belle (played by Emma Watson), is a brainy, beautiful, and light
hearted girl. She voluntarily becomes the Beast s prisoner after she offers herself in exchange for her
father (he accidently wanders to the Beast s castle during a cold winter night, and is taken prisoner).
As time passes, Belle and the Beast become close. Unfortunately, during this time, the town also
learns the Beast lives on the outskirts of their village, and they are frightened,

Hayden Groth Case Study
Dear school board, I, Hayden Groth think that police officers have the right to come to the school and
make occasional, unannounced visits to the high schools to search for drugs, guns or things that can
put people in danger. when they make an appearance to schools they search the whole property of the
school, including student lockers and the parking lot. People may think that their unannounced visits,
may not like them because they could have something on the property that maybe they forgot that was
in their locker or car. For me I think that their visits are 100% fine because if they were to announce
that they are coming then they more than likely not find anything because students would then have
time to get rid of anything that would

Epilogue Of Augustus s Mistake
As Augustus down walked the dusty old road he noticed something, most of the shops that lined the
edges of the road were closed. The food priced probably rose again he thought. Whenever the food

As he walked inside the bakery, the smell of fresh baked bread made his stomach grumble with
anticipation. When he walked into the back of the bakery he saw his father cutting the dough into little
squares and putting them in an oven.
Hey dad! He yelled across the deafening roar of the oven.

Christianity In Beowulf Research Paper
Christianity in Beowulf
All throughout history there have been examples of religion and other teachings being displayed
through literature. During the settlement, Christian missionaries spread the word of Christianity to the
Natives through text. According to an article, their professed goal was to spread the gospels
throughout the Americas . The influence of religion on the Native people was intended to convert
them from their savage way of living to a more civilized and religious one. The poem Beowulf, was
translated by Christian monks to spread the word of Christianity, and to convert the old practice of
Paganism. The monks, much like the Christian missionaries, used literature to speak to the people in
that transitional time period. By using a heroic figure, the monks were able to influence the Pagans
into following the word of God through the spokesman of a hero (Clark).
Beowulf was translated to promote a Christian audience. During the sixth century, Pagan ideology was
challenged by Christianity; texts were translated by Christian monks to conform the oral traditions to
their new society. The monks targeted oral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Life Of Pi Theme Essay Examples
Theme Essay Life of Pi shows that humans and animals should do anything necessary to survive
whatever challenges they face to live instead of just accepting death. Whatever ways that help one to
survive are necessary, even if they compromise personal values, are vicious, or are wicked. Pi, a
human; a hyena, and a blind man all fight to survive in a variety of ways that are examples of this
thesis. Pi quits his vegetarian diet and also chooses to live on a raft next to a bengal tiger on a lifeboat,
which are both unusual and unconventional choices for him. He satisfies his hunger by quitting being
a vegetarian and eating fish. Pi knows that A lifetime of peaceful vegetarianism [stands] between

the beheading had to be done (Martel 98) in order to survive. In addition, Pi decides to feed a 450

I had to tame him. It was at that moment that I realized this necessity...More likely the worst would

Opera Buffa Social Structure
Mozart composed three Italian opera buffa Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, and Cosi fan tutte with
Lorenzo Da Ponte s libretto. In the eighteenth century, the advent of Enlightenment in Europe changed
the hierarchical social structure in European society. It brought great change to the women s lifestyle
by allowing noblewomen to have equal power to men and to voice themselves. Also, peasant women
changed their lifestyle by being treated more equally as men who were at the same social level.
Mozart brought this social phenomenon to the opera since opera buffa reflected how common people
interacted with nobles and how men have started to respect women s opinions. Mozart demonstrated
gendered social structure by using soubrette characters. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The maid views love as a power dynamic that requires women to offset their socially established
disadvantage with cleverness. Despina believes that women learn to be unfaithful because men are
that way .
Despina, a lower class woman, believes women and men should be equally treated. It shows that in
the era, women have an awareness of being equal to men. Also, I found that a maid s subordinate
position was raised in the eighteenth century. When the Revolution occurred, the mainstream social
class was lower class. If Despina was not just a character but an actual woman, she definitely would
have participated in the revolution.
Mozart s Opera buffa reflects the cultural and historical materials in the eighteenth century and shows
the life of common people. In the eighteenth century, the Enlightenment aroused throughout Europe
and this idea aimed for the general progress of humanity. The world was broken from the aristocratic
society to the lower class. Public opinion promoted equality over hierarchy. Women took part in the
revolution, and they improved their status in their family and society. They demanded a proper
education thus literacy highly increased. With these influences, Soubrette characters in Mozart s opera
buffa: Susanna, Zerlina and Despina have a mysterious power from the Enlightenment. He maintains
the characters in the same class and he did not break the social structure. However, he presents
equality between women and men. Women

Psychology And Cognitive Science, Confirmation Bias ( Or...
In psychology and cognitive science, confirmation bias (or confirmatory bias) is a tendency to search
for or interpret information in a way that confirms one s preconceptions, leading to statistical errors. It
is a type of cognitive bias and represents an error of inductive inference toward confirmation of the
hypothesis under study.
Confirmation bias is a phenomenon wherein decision makers have been shown to actively seek out
and assign more weight to evidence that confirms their hypothesis, and ignore or underweigh evidence
that could disconfirm their hypothesis.
As such, it can be thought of as a form of selection bias in collecting evidence.
An individual might even seek out proof that further backs up this belief, while discounting examples
that do not support this idea.
Unlike other similar concepts such overconfidence bias or anchoring, confirmation biases impact how
people gather information, but they also influence how people interpret and recall information. For
example, people who support or oppose a particular issue will not only seek information that supports
their beliefs, they will also interpret news stories in a way that upholds their existing ideas and
remember things in a way that also reinforces these attitudes.
Therefore, this concept is important because without seeking for objective facts, interpreting
information in a way that only supports one s existing beliefs, and only remembering details that
uphold these beliefs, people often miss important

Congressional Era Of Reconstruction During Post Civil War...
Failure is simply an opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.
Henry Ford. This was the Southern optimist s view of what the results of post Civil War
Reconstruction could be. Unfortunately, once the Congressional era of Reconstruction began, this
view was squandered under federal punishment of the South. This policy led to strained relations
between Congress and the ex Confederate states. The difference of opinion was over how harshly the
South should be punished for leaving the Union. The South wanted to be readmitted with as little
friction as possible, so they sided with the Democrats, like Robert E. Lee, and Moderate Republicans.
Congress on the other hand, being mostly controlled by Radical Republicans, believed ... Show more

One explicit difference of policy was over the use of troops to put the South into military districts that
were under martial law and putting Northern Generals over Southern troops. As historian S. Chase
said in the Democratic National Committee of 1873 There should have been as little military
government as possible. This policy was even more harshly debated because these troops were there to
enforce a law that the Southerners were not ever able to vote on until they were forced to vote for it if
they wanted to rejoin the United States, which they had to do because they lost the Civil War. This
force, both physically and ideologically, seemed very out of place in a country that claimed to be the
land of the free, and even more out of place since it was a Democracy. This ideological difference
between Southerners and Congress has been a major point of contention in discussions about
Reconstruction policy since it was put into practice.
Another point of policy disagreement can be seen in how representation in the South would be
handled. In accordance with Congressional Reconstruction, certain classes of ex Confederates, such as
the class that Robert E. Lee was in, were excluded from being granted their suffrage . This was an
outrage to Southerners for two reasons. The first is that the certain classes being exempted from
regaining their suffrage were the highest part of the upper class and the people of high rank from the
ex Confederate

Comparison Of Political Parties

confusing to an average citizen who works daily to feed the family and pay the bills. You have

The conservatives are generally and not always part of the republican party. These parties have
changed so much since their inception. And with all the negative feelings of each party towards one
another we are giving rise to the Roman Empire Theory where America is seen in similarities to the
old Roman Empire that collapsed upon itself. Here are some examples of the connections: First, the
huge cost of elections today have spiralled out of control costing billions of dollars. This is creating
the appearance that our leaders are puppets of specail interest groups. In the Roman Empire, towards
the end the elections were costing staggering amounts and causing terrible results. Thus, weakening
the system. Second, in the late Roman Empire the road to wealth was seen as being in the political
arena. The Roman leaders would accumulate great amounts of personal wealth. Today the very same
thing is happening across America with those who want to become very wealthy get into the politics
and seek a seat either in Congress or the Presidency. Third, as the Roman Empire spiralled down there
were wars and a national state of security arose. The same can be said for America as in the last
century we have had several wars and now the security of the nation is being challenged. Fourth,
during the last years of the Roman Empire the leaders were given wealth from other nations to buy
their influence to help them in return. The same is happening in America today as foreign powers send
huge sums of money to our various leaders to gain their favor. Fifth, the Romans in their last years
made huge profits from their business in foreign countries. In America today, many large corporations
have there manufacturing plants in other nations and reaping higher dividends. And Lastly, in the last
days of the Roman Empire the middle class was

Luhrmann Both openings of Romeo and Juliet by Franco Zeffirelli and Baz Luhrmann show
similarities and contrasts. Although both versions are faithful to the text as the words spoken by the
voiceover in the Prologue are the same, the methods of presentation are clearly different. Zeffirelli

I think it is also important that the statue is smaller than the skyscrapers as this suggests that the
families in this time were so powerful that they were in fact more influential than God. I think that the
purpose of the frantic introduction and the short takes represent snapshots taken by a camera and give
the impression that there is a lot of action in the film. Zeffirelli, however uses only 2 shots in his
opening with slow panning from left to right, this connotes a slow, more tranquil film. Luhrmann
ignores the stereotypes of Shakespeare, so therefore he has more freedom to portray the film in a
modern way. There is a quiet string quartet playing in Zeffirelli s opening which creates a calm
atmosphere. The non diegetic music in Luhrmann s is Cammina Burra , which is a dramatic opera and
as the music crescendos, all of the snapshots become faster and have more dramatic images like gun
battles and fighting. This makes the audience realise that the music will be connected to what is
happening in the film, and the directors could use a diminuendo to build tension during tense
moments. This opera connotes the emotions anger, despair and confusion, and because the music
climaxes early on, before the audience has time to settle into the film, suggests that the film is going to
be action packed and will grab their attention straight away. The uses of the various sizes of

Meltzer. Meltzer also claims that Tom Clancy created the character Jack Ryan as a reflection to all
Americans. He wanted to show people a man that was affected by the Cold War and wanted to do
something about it, thus encouraging Americans to take action (Neary). In Powell s view, He was
somebody who really loved his country and through his books, he demonstrated that love (Powell).
Some of Tom s novels was turned into movies and video games. Those who aren t a fan of reading,

The Characteristics Of Materialism In The American Dream
Society is buying objects we do not need, with the money we do not have, to impress people that do
not matter. The American Dream is developing into a more materialistic world, a dream in which the
dream keeps getting larger and greedier. Materialism is the tendency to think material objects are more
important than people; a desire for money over ethics. Today, life shows us that people have a desire
for newest, thinnest, updated most expensive smartphone or the more expensive lavish materials. Life
shows us that our car is undesirable now, especially when our cars do not hook up with that latest cell
phone. Life shows us unrealistic standards of a way to live, yet a huge portion of the people in society
appear to be emptying out their wallets. This materialistic culture is a show, a phony act when in
society we pretend we are what we are not. We all live in a materialistic society where the majority of
people are more worried about what we have than who we are. There is an emphasis on what brand a
person is wearing, what car someone is driving, and just how many objects one has, in general. A
person must wonder where this hunger and greed comes from and why most Americans fall
susceptible to this phenomenon, including me. Materialism is an identity crisis. A person should know
what they need, and what they can afford, but seem to have a different driving force which dictates
their life. So how come when my cell phone is not in my pocket like I thought, I go into a sense of

Christian Bible
To me this is like a very wicked Bible and History book all in one. Just like the Christian Bible it tells
the people that there is only one god. The manual goes back to the past on how a group of people
come over to their land and took over, by raping virgins, shaving women s hair and so on. When you
start reading its confusing but not only does it confusing it tries to make the reader angry by telling
them the history, but also make them sick because it tells them to do what happened to them, and do it
to others in a kind of Pledger known as O Sister In our Christian Bible it states how the lord will
forgive your sins and only fear him . In the manual it tells the reader to not fear his creator and Allah
will also forgive you as long ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At first the Romans were no allowed to walk around the area so that they couldn t see how the fortrus

they would be able to scout the area why they tried to catch the horse. It amazes me how pretending to

me think of now all those refugees coming into the United States, what if a few of them are doing like
what the roams are doing and plan to attack us as soon as they see how our government and police

Why Women Still Can T Have It All
Everyone Can Have It All
If someone were to walk up to you and ask if you have it all, you would probably look confused and
answer with a question of your own: Have what all? Exactly! Richard Dorment rebukes Anne Marie
Slaughter s piece of Why Women Still Can t Have It All with his own piece of Why Men Still Can t
Have It All. While Slaughter believes that with work family balance, women (and men too) can have it
all, but not with the current structures of our society and economy, Dorment contends that no one can
have it all. Whereas Slaughter focused mainly on women in her concept work family balance,
balancing their career time and family time with their children, Dorment shifts this concept to dual
income home, both parents

Education In The Middle Ages Essay
Education is the reason the world is filled with doctors, lawyers, policemen, accountants, and all the
other occupations that fuel modern society. In 1330, only five percent of the English population was
capable of reading and writing (Simkin). By 1500, sixty four Universities had been established in
Europe (McKitterick 152). William I, Duke of Normandy, gained control over England after he
conquered Harold at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Very few English citizens were educated at the
time; the only people who possessed academic knowledge were part of the church. Medieval England
developed at a rapid pace. Due to this growth, the need for education was urgent (Trueman). One can
better understand the role of education by examining its historical roots.
School in the Middle Ages relied on nature: it began at sunrise and ended at sunset and the breaks
were based on when families needed their children in the fields ( Not what it used ). The school
buildings consisted of one room where the boys studied with their teacher, who ordinarily had
previous religious experience. If a mistake was made during the memorization process, the teacher
would harshly slap the student s back side. No mistake would be made twice because of the memory
of the horrible pain inflicted on the student (Trueman). Although the students who attended school
were generally wealthy, students sat on the floor, utilizing a bone or an ivory stylus to write. The
students took notes on wax coated wooden blocks

Interpreter Of Maladies
Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri
Through her tasteful selection of contemporary Indian influenced prose pieces, Jhumpa Lahiri traces
the unique journey of Indian families established in America. Focusing on the intergenerational aspect
of traditional households, Lahiri conveys the emotional rollercoaster that accompanies a person who is
branded as a foreigner. In America, there exists a common misconception that immigrants who arrive
in this country fully assimilate or seek to assimilate as time progresses. The category I chose was The
Dot of true Happiness. The dot which signifies the bindi, a traditional red mark worn by Indian
people, is the source of true happiness among these immigrants.
Although these newly arrived ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly, in the piece When Mr. Pirzada Came to Dine, a young girl observes and appreciates from a
far a family friend who recently arrived from India. It is evident that in a short period of time he has
assimilated to the everyday American lifestyle. He has an established career as a professor and is
invited to dinner parties on a regular basis by the Lilia s family. Yet this supposed success through
assimilation is not where Mr, Pirzada finds satisfaction. Although his family is suffering in Dacca after
a war time crisis, Pirzada is still able to find some sort of satisfaction at Lilia s house as he participates
in Indian influenced activities. He plays a round of carom with the family, and chews on fennel seeds,
as he experiences moments of happiness among the thoughts of the death of his family back home.
Although stories like these are obvious in their presentation of the nostalgia
Which induces comfort among immigrants, other selections display this in a more subtle and intricate
manner. The two pieces, The Treatment of Bibi Haldar and The Third and Final Continent both
compare and contrast the role marriage plays within the Indian and American communities by
observing a transnational couple and a young woman in India who longs to be married.
In the story The Treatment of Bibi Haldar , a twenty nine year

Rhetorical Analysis Of Lou Gehrig s Farewell To Baseball
June 19th, 1939 one of the New York Yankees and baseball s most famous first baseman, Lou Gehrig,
was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis after six days of extensive testing. Fifteen days later
on July 4th, 1939 Lou Gehrig flew to Yankee stadium in New York and gave his famous, Farewell to
Baseball speech. The speech wasn t just for Yankees fans, but for all fans of baseball. Amyotrophic
lateral sclerosis, or ALS for short, is a a nervous system disease that weakens muscles and impacts
physical function, usually killing the person in two to five years. Gehrig knew he didn t have long.
That s why fifteen days after his diagnosis Gehrig was standing at home plate in Yankee stadium
telling all baseball fans of his retirement due to illness. In under 300 words, using ethos, logos, and
pathos, Gehrig transformed how baseball fans viewed him, not just as a player, but as a person. Gehrig
showed the world how strong willed and fearless a person can be in the face of adversity. The
credibility, or ethos, of Gehrig s speech was already there before he ever started the speech. At the
time of the speech Gehrig held one MLB record, Gehrig had played in 2,130 consecutive baseball
games, quite possibly the most honorable MLB record. He was very well known and well respected
by all fans and players. In his speech Gehrig says, Who wouldn t consider it an honor to have known
Jacob Ruppert? Also, the builder of baseball s greatest empire, Ed Barrow? To have spent six years
with that wonderful little fellow, Miller Huggins? Then to have spent the next nine years with that
outstanding leader, that smart student of psychology, the best manager in baseball today, Joe
McCarthy? (1). In saying it showed his personal side of his baseball career, the places he has been,
and the people he s had the wonderful opportunity to play baseball with. The respect the fans and
players had for Gehrig only made his speech more credible, Lou Gehrig was loved by all baseball
fans. The biggest part of Gehrig s speech is pathos, or the emotional part of his speech. In the first
lines of the speech Gehrig grabs the audience s attention with emotional appeal by saying Fans, for the
past two weeks you have been reading about a bad break I

Essay On Mexico Drugs
When the words kidnappings, torture, and beheadings, places that come to mind are Syria, Iraq, and
Afghanistan. But there is a north american country, much closer, that is surging in the amount of
violent crimes like those aforementioned: Mexico. Despite being widely known as a place for spring
breakers to have parties or for families to enjoy the warm summer weather, in recent years, Mexico s
crime and violence has gotten worse, with 40,000 lives taken since 2006. Even Acapulco, Mexico s
most famous Pacific Port has been littered with tragic stories concerning shootings and robberies.
Cancun and Cozumel, two of the biggest tourist towns represent some of the worst hazards. Cancun
boasts a population of about 500,000. And like any city with that many people, crime makes itself
right at home. Tijuana, one of Mexico s biggest and busiest cities, it s also one of the most crime
ridden. It s a major border point for motorists entering the country from the U.S. and therefore makes
it a large target for gangs and drug empires to create ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he won passage of the 1986 Anti Drug Abuse Act, which required the executive branch to
annually certify that any country receiving US assistance was cooperating fully with US anti narcotics
efforts, or taking steps deemed sufficient on its own. If the country in question failed to measure up,
and Mexico was an obvious target, it would be struck off from all foreign aid programs. President de
la Madrid (1982 1988) fell in line, declaring drug trafficking a threat to Mexico s national security,
and authorizing an expanded military presence in anti narcotics efforts. He had little choice. Mexico
had tumbled into a full blown economic crisis. In the course of wrestling with it, de la Madrid would
begin to engineer a profound transformation in the country s economy and polity, a transformation that
would have major consequences for the organization of the drug

  • 2. Network Built For Local Area Networks Essay WANs are systems built for information exchange that connects computers from anywhere in the world across the globe. A wide area network (WAN) is generally used by large corporations or organizations. WANs are very useful to these sorts of associations because it easily allows them to deploy data from their computers to disseminate offices. Large organizations that use multiple facilities usually end up using WANs. Smaller businesses are increasingly using WANs as well. They are able to use WANs if they have at least two secluded sites. WAN usually connects two or more LANs together. LAN stands for local area networks. The internet that we all use is very much considered a WAN. WANs have existed for many years. They are methodical and controlled much differently from other types of telecommunication systems. WANs are very similar to LANs because they serve almost the same purpose. WANs are still a bit more intricate than LANs of course. In order for a user to use WAN, they first would have to subscribe to a telecommunication providers service. The organizations that choose to use WANs do not own or control any of the communication lines that connect the secluded network systems to other computers. WANs are not used to connect individual computers with each other. They were built to link different LANs together. When the WAN connects the LANs to each other this is called internetwork. Routers and remote bridges play a part to the internetwork as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

General Court Review General Court Visit Review The Crown Court was created on January 1, 1972 under the Courts Act of 1971 to substitute the Courts of Assizes (periodic courts held in England and Wales until 1972) and Quarter sessions (local courts traditionally held at four set times each year in England and Wales before the Act substituted them and the Assizes with a single permanent crown court). The Crown court of England and Wales is one of the essential parts of the Senior Courts of England and Wales. It deals mainly with criminal cases like murder, rape and armed robbery. On the first day of hearing the case against Abougoud Khalid, the judge specifically told the court that the trial would take a week which ended up takin longer than expected because of administrative and procedural delays. I think it s okay to ask the question, is this what we are going to allow to kill our loved one. Given the prognosis, what is the goal of the treatment? Response: When posed with this question, it would be difficult to answer without considering all possibilities. If my loved one could live with a quality life eventually or if treatment would prolong life until their bucket list might be completed, or if unresolved spiritual issues could be resolved, my decision would be to continue treatment! Having a goal of the treatment ahead certainly would be favorable for anyone facing a terminal illness. Response: Unfortunately, the cost of medical expenses is not cheap. However, how can you put a price on someone s life. To stop treatment because of finances would be a decision that would need to be carefully thought through from every direction. To grow old without regrets would always be the goal. Consequently, wiping out your family would not be the goal that any person would want to achieve. I believe that it is acceptable to stop treatment if you feel that is the right path for quality of life. Moreover, it would be devastating to a loved one to think that they were a part of the equation for ending someone s life. These videos by Dr. Scott Rae have brought to my mind many of questions about death that I had not considered before. • 5. How Do Gift Exchanges And Commodity Transactions Shape... How do gift exchanges and commodity transactions shape your everyday interactions with others? The flow of gifts and commodities between individuals is a significant aspect of our society as a whole. Gifts are things, often material objects, that are exchanged between groups or individuals that have some kind of relationship. The value of this gift is dependent on the nature, significance and goals of the relationship. Commodities are objects that move between people through transactions with minimal interaction or attachment. In this piece, I reflect on the way humans in today s society engage with gifts, commodities and one another, with a particular focus on the celebration of Christmas. Gifts are utilised to both maintain and build ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Following that, the recipient is obligated to receive the gift with gratitude and in the correct manner. Finally, there is an unspoken obligation to reciprocate, though not necessarily immediately. One of Western society s most significant holidays and gift giving occasions is Christmas, which takes place annually in late December. Christmas originated as a Christian holiday commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. It is, however, celebrated as a cultural tradition by the majority of individuals in Western society, not just followers of Christianity. It is a public holiday in many countries, often centers around a festive meal, and the exchange of gifts is tradition. Gifts are not only given between people with well established relationships, often presents are given to coworkers or teachers for example. The value of the gift does vary though depending on the extent of the relationship between the giver and receiver. One is expected to give a very valuable and thoughtful present to their loved ones, but can give something more generic or cheaper to a person they have less of a connection with. For example, a mother may give her daughter an heirloom that has been passed down to each generation or a husband might buy his wife a expensive piece of jewelry. On the other hand, a friend may give another friend a gift card or money, and coworkers might give one another a box ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Ariel Dorfman I thoroughly enjoyed the message written by Ariel Dorfman in the essay The Black Hole. Stories of individuals looking back and remembering the past, with a trail of hopes fear, and destruction are always the stories that truly affect me because they don t just show the strength and vitality of hero in a fight. Rather, these stories show them being weak, confused and almost hopeless. Ariel doesn t just tell us about the positives of what he has done, but also the negative effect of what has been done to those around him by his actions. Ariel was fighting for the freedom of himself, and all of those around him. He was fighting for everyone that was suppressed by the government. In both situations someone stood up and spoke against the government, both places were the front, in some individuals minds, for the rebellion. Because of their significance, both places were destroyed for that act of rebellion. Throughout the essay Ariel tells of us how the actions made by himself and others were precisely what brought them to the point of being exiled and killed. This is much the same as the point in The Hunger Games when the main character Katniss Everdeen and all of District 12 have been forced to flee their homes, because she was the face of the rebellion. • 7. Essay on Activity 3.2 1) What are the ethical issues in this case? There are a few ethical issues in this case, making genetically engineered food and distributing to the public without the publics knowledge is unethical. Another ethical issue is not knowing what side affects of the engineered food will do to humans in the long term. It is still not determined whether or not some of these GM foods will cause health problems in humans in the long run and should be tested like new drug have to be tested. The disadvantages would be that GM foods will cause the cost of anti GM foods to go down and this will cause them to farmers of anti GM food to go down making less income in the long run. 4) If you were crafting GMO public policy, what would you recommend? If I were crafting a GMO policy I would make all GM food have a mandatory test of at least 7 years to see if there any affects that come from a genetically manufactured foods, and I would make it mandatory that once the GMO foods are deemed safe they should be labeled as GMO foods so that public knows what they are eating. Even though some companies will lose money from lack of business, I believe that all genetically modified crops should be labeled. Regardless of the positive or negative outcomes, I think we should have a right to know what s in the food we are eating. Therefore we are responsible for the outcome of the modified crops and must make mandates that make the GM producers label their foods. So ultimately we leave up to the public if they want to eat GM products but at least they will know that it is a GM product with those labels. 5) Do hybrid seeds represent as serious a concern as that represented by GM foods? • 9. Examples Of Poseidon In The Odyssey What is a villain? Is it a boulder of hate in a sea of kindness, or a person whose heart and world are filled with darkness? A villain is a person who wants to hurt others or do bad things. The god of the sea, Poseidon from the Odyssey, by Homer and President Snow from the Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins could both be considered villains. President Snow is a greater villain because of his cruelty, selfishness, and him being uncooperative. President Snow and Poseidon are both insanely cruel but President Snow is crueller. Historically gas turbines have suffered from low levels of efficiency and poor reliability, resulting in a reliance on the above mentioned alternatives to supply the consumer demand for electricity. Initial assumptions and original efficiency values will be based on the ideal Brayton Cycle, by replacing an open cycle Fig.1 with a closed cycle Fig. 2 (Huang Gramoll, n.d.) This report will identify and discuss the improvements made to the modern day Gas turbine (when compared against the simple Brayton Cycle Fig. 3), which show the significant progress made in terms of efficiency. In order to make gas turbines cost effective there is a need to improve overall cycle efficiency. Gas turbines fundamentally operate by utilisation of a compressor and turbine to drive a common shaft. The rotating shaft can then be connected to a generator to provide electricity, a propeller for ships or the turbine can be utilised to provide propulsion of aircraft. However this report will focus on the gas turbine within the power generation industry and will look at modifications and improvements in design which can increase overall efficiency and cost effectiveness. In short the improvements made to the gas turbine are as follows: Changes to the cycle temperatures Increasing the efficiency of turbo machinery components Modifications to the basic cycle Cycle Temperature ... Fees Must Fall originated in South Africa and is known as a movement led by students convincing government officials to lower university fees in order for the citizens to attend, while Black Lives Matter is a movement known for promoting black lives and responding to previous discrimination against black people. Though these movements appear to be the antithesis of each other because of the two distinct topics, they are similar due to their shared experiences of inequality and their mutual platform used to help the movements grow larger. Fees Must Fall and Black Lives Matter both face inequality in the global black community in different ways. Fees Must Fall was a movement born out the struggle to obtain affordable access to colleges and universities in South Africa. While the Apartheid is part of the history behind the struggle, it is not the essence of the movement, but it is the reason why black students can t afford the fees. Newborn Mortality Rates in Ghana and the United States Today Introduction It is frequently been suggested that the infant mortality rate (IMR) is a reliable indicator of a country s civilization and focus on the welfare of its citizens (Berger 2001). Although global infant mortality rates has shown steady improvement over the past century, many developing countries continue to experience inordinately high rates compared to the world levels; surprisingly, though, even the United States which claims to have one of the best healthcare systems in the world continues to experience relatively high infant mortality rates, higher even than many developing nations (Berger 2001). The majority of this decline in the IMR has been attributed to improvements related to urban living (for example, sanitation, pasteurization, improved water and sewage, reduced fertility rates, and improved economic and educational levels), followed by improved technological and public health strategies (Berger 2001). Infant mortality rates have declined sharply in most developing countries in the past several decades, just as they did earlier in the developed countries. The reductions in the IMR also resulted from improvements in the prevention and treatment of diarrhea, which is a major killer of infants in poor socioeconomic conditions (Zopf 1992). Infant Mortality in Ghana. • 15. Evolution And Theory Of Evolution Introduction Humans have questioned their origins since the beginning of time and in the process, come up with a variety of theories to answer the age old question, Where do we come from? The theory of evolution is just one of the many theories written over the centuries that attempts to answer this question; however, it holds the distinction of being the only theory accepted as scientifically true in today s world. This paper will discuss the theory of evolution in detail; topics addressed include defining the theory of evolution and explaining how the theory has evolved over time, as well as highlighting the theory s strengths and weaknesses and examining how effective the theory is in today s world. I. Description of the theory The theory of evolution explains how all of the living species on Earth came to exist as they do today. Credited to Charles Darwin, the theory of evolution states that all the living species of today humans included evolved over time; we can see evidence of their evolution in the fossils of now extinct species. In his book Origin of Species, published in 1859, Darwin wrote that species evolve over time through a mechanism known as natural selection. Basically, each species is born with a multitude of traits, some more favorable to survival than others. The And Authority Of The New Testament Canon The traditional interpretation of the development and authority of the New Testament canon is often a topic of debate and scrutiny; however, Dr. Michael J. His written work has led him to be known as a scholar in the origins of the New Testament Canon, in particular writings related to the New Testament Canon. For centuries people have been perplexed regarding the books of the New Testament canon. Many Christians have accepted the 27 books in the New Testament Canon but often cannot provide adequate justification regarding how the canon was established. Then under this category is several sub categories which comprise of: limited resource farms (gross sales of less than $100,000, total farm assets less than $250,000, and total operator house hold income less than $20,000), retirement farms (small farms with the operator being retired), residential/lifestyle farms (small farms with the operator having a major occupation other than farming), farming occupation/lower sales (sales less than $100,000), farming occupation/higher sales (sales between $100,000 and $249,999). The other types of farms include large family farms and very large family farms. The final category is non family farm; these types of farms are more like corporations and cooperatives. The reason why the size of a farm is so important to the success is that it all depends on the amount of income that is flowing into the farm. The limited resource, retirement, and lifestyle family farms will have a better chance of prolonging its existence because of its off farm income. These types of farms do not need to worry as much about low prices and low yields because of the other source of cash flow. This brings us to the farming occupation with ... Alice s frame of mind throughout the entire journey in Wonderland presented her with foreign challenges. These challenges questioned the way one should handle a new world being thrust upon them. Alice could take every problem in stride or she could sulk in her troubles. The choice was hers. When Alice was newly in Wonderland, she faced the challenge of becoming the correct size to fit through the doorway. When she went back to the table for it, she found she could not possibly reach it; she could see it quite plainly through the glass, and she tried her best to climb up one of the legs of the table, but it ... • 22. What Is The Beauty Of The Beast Vs Beauty And The Beast The story of a girl who is held hostage by a frightening beast and then ends up falling in love with him is a tale as old as time. The live action version of the 1991 animated classic, Beauty and the Beast, is more than that though. The story portrayed in the live action film follows that of the animated version almost exactly. This musical romantic fantasy film, directed by Bill Condon, features an outstanding cast, which includes Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, and Josh Gad, among others. The motion picture is able to bring the animated movie to life even more so than one could imagine. Beauty and the Beast is a story about a pampered prince (played by Dan Stevens) who, because of his arrogance, is cursed and thus gets turned into a hideous beast. He can only be returned to his human form if someone is able to love him, and, in turn, he is able to learn to love. Thanks to the actual human actors in the live action film, the producers are able to portray this essential piece of the story well. The other main character, Belle (played by Emma Watson), is a brainy, beautiful, and light hearted girl. She voluntarily becomes the Beast s prisoner after she offers herself in exchange for her father (he accidently wanders to the Beast s castle during a cold winter night, and is taken prisoner). As time passes, Belle and the Beast become close. Unfortunately, during this time, the town also learns the Beast lives on the outskirts of their village, and they are frightened, ... • 25. Christianity In Beowulf Research Paper Christianity in Beowulf All throughout history there have been examples of religion and other teachings being displayed through literature. During the settlement, Christian missionaries spread the word of Christianity to the Natives through text. According to an article, their professed goal was to spread the gospels throughout the Americas . The influence of religion on the Native people was intended to convert them from their savage way of living to a more civilized and religious one. The poem Beowulf, was translated by Christian monks to spread the word of Christianity, and to convert the old practice of Paganism. The monks, much like the Christian missionaries, used literature to speak to the people in that transitional time period. By using a heroic figure, the monks were able to influence the Pagans into following the word of God through the spokesman of a hero (Clark). Beowulf was translated to promote a Christian audience. In the eighteenth century, the advent of Enlightenment in Europe changed the hierarchical social structure in European society. It brought great change to the women s lifestyle by allowing noblewomen to have equal power to men and to voice themselves. Also, peasant women changed their lifestyle by being treated more equally as men who were at the same social level. Mozart brought this social phenomenon to the opera since opera buffa reflected how common people interacted with nobles and how men have started to respect women s opinions. • 29. Psychology And Cognitive Science, Confirmation Bias ( Or... In psychology and cognitive science, confirmation bias (or confirmatory bias) is a tendency to search for or interpret information in a way that confirms one s preconceptions, leading to statistical errors. It is a type of cognitive bias and represents an error of inductive inference toward confirmation of the hypothesis under study. Confirmation bias is a phenomenon wherein decision makers have been shown to actively seek out and assign more weight to evidence that confirms their hypothesis, and ignore or underweigh evidence that could disconfirm their hypothesis. As such, it can be thought of as a form of selection bias in collecting evidence. An individual might even seek out proof that further backs up this belief, while discounting examples that do not support this idea. Unlike other similar concepts such overconfidence bias or anchoring, confirmation biases impact how people gather information, but they also influence how people interpret and recall information. For example, people who support or oppose a particular issue will not only seek information that supports their beliefs, they will also interpret news stories in a way that upholds their existing ideas and remember things in a way that also reinforces these attitudes. Therefore, this concept is important because without seeking for objective facts, interpreting information in a way that only supports one s existing beliefs, and only remembering details that uphold these beliefs, people often miss important ... This was the Southern optimist s view of what the results of post Civil War Reconstruction could be. Unfortunately, once the Congressional era of Reconstruction began, this view was squandered under federal punishment of the South. This policy led to strained relations between Congress and the ex Confederate states. The difference of opinion was over how harshly the South should be punished for leaving the Union. One explicit difference of policy was over the use of troops to put the South into military districts that were under martial law and putting Northern Generals over Southern troops. As historian S. Chase said in the Democratic National Committee of 1873 There should have been as little military government as possible. This policy was even more harshly debated because these troops were there to enforce a law that the Southerners were not ever able to vote on until they were forced to vote for it if they wanted to rejoin the United States, which they had to do because they lost the Civil War. This force, both physically and ideologically, seemed very out of place in a country that claimed to be the land of the free, and even more out of place since it was a Democracy. This ideological difference between Southerners and Congress has been a major point of contention in discussions about Reconstruction policy since it was put into practice. Another point of policy disagreement can be seen in how representation in the South would be handled. In accordance with Congressional Reconstruction, certain classes of ex Confederates, such as the class that Robert E. Lee was in, were excluded from being granted their suffrage . This was an outrage to Southerners for two reasons. The first is that the certain classes being exempted from regaining their suffrage were the highest part of the upper class and the people of high rank from the ex Confederate ... And with all the negative feelings of each party towards one another we are giving rise to the Roman Empire Theory where America is seen in similarities to the old Roman Empire that collapsed upon itself. Here are some examples of the connections: First, the huge cost of elections today have spiralled out of control costing billions of dollars. This is creating the appearance that our leaders are puppets of specail interest groups. In the Roman Empire, towards the end the elections were costing staggering amounts and causing terrible results. Thus, weakening the system. Second, in the late Roman Empire the road to wealth was seen as being in the political arena. The Roman leaders would accumulate great amounts of personal wealth. Today the very same thing is happening across America with those who want to become very wealthy get into the politics and seek a seat either in Congress or the Presidency. Third, as the Roman Empire spiralled down there were wars and a national state of security arose. The same can be said for America as in the last century we have had several wars and now the security of the nation is being challenged. Fourth, during the last years of the Roman Empire the leaders were given wealth from other nations to buy their influence to help them in return. The same is happening in America today as foreign powers send huge sums of money to our various leaders to gain their favor. Zeffirelli, however uses only 2 shots in his opening with slow panning from left to right, this connotes a slow, more tranquil film. Tom s fast paced and technology heavy thrillers redefined a genre. I, in my books, write thrillers that are full of government secrets that are researched with people at the highest levels of that government. I wish I invented that genre. I didn t, Tom Clancy did, said Brad Meltzer. Meltzer also claims that Tom Clancy created the character Jack Ryan as a reflection to all Americans. He wanted to show people a man that was affected by the Cold War and wanted to do something about it, thus encouraging Americans to take action (Neary). In Powell s view, He was somebody who really loved his country and through his books, he demonstrated that love (Powell). Some of Tom s novels was turned into movies and video games. • 40. The Characteristics Of Materialism In The American Dream Society is buying objects we do not need, with the money we do not have, to impress people that do not matter. The American Dream is developing into a more materialistic world, a dream in which the dream keeps getting larger and greedier. Materialism is the tendency to think material objects are more important than people; a desire for money over ethics. Today, life shows us that people have a desire for newest, thinnest, updated most expensive smartphone or the more expensive lavish materials. Life shows us that our car is undesirable now, especially when our cars do not hook up with that latest cell phone. Life shows us unrealistic standards of a way to live, yet a huge portion of the people in society appear to be emptying out their wallets. This materialistic culture is a show, a phony act when in society we pretend we are what we are not. We all live in a materialistic society where the majority of people are more worried about what we have than who we are. There is an emphasis on what brand a person is wearing, what car someone is driving, and just how many objects one has, in general. A person must wonder where this hunger and greed comes from and why most Americans fall susceptible to this phenomenon, including me. Materialism is an identity crisis. A person should know what they need, and what they can afford, but seem to have a different driving force which dictates their life. So how come when my cell phone is not in my pocket like I thought, I go into a sense of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Christian Bible To me this is like a very wicked Bible and History book all in one. Just like the Christian Bible it tells the people that there is only one god. The manual goes back to the past on how a group of people come over to their land and took over, by raping virgins, shaving women s hair and so on. When you start reading its confusing but not only does it confusing it tries to make the reader angry by telling them the history, but also make them sick because it tells them to do what happened to them, and do it to others in a kind of Pledger known as O Sister In our Christian Bible it states how the lord will forgive your sins and only fear him . In the manual it tells the reader to not fear his creator and Allah will also forgive you as long ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why Women Still Can T Have It All Everyone Can Have It All If someone were to walk up to you and ask if you have it all, you would probably look confused and answer with a question of your own: Have what all? Exactly! Richard Dorment rebukes Anne Marie Slaughter s piece of Why Women Still Can t Have It All with his own piece of Why Men Still Can t Have It All. While Slaughter believes that with work family balance, women (and men too) can have it all, but not with the current structures of our society and economy, Dorment contends that no one can have it all. Whereas Slaughter focused mainly on women in her concept work family balance, balancing their career time and family time with their children, Dorment shifts this concept to dual income home, both parents ... • 43. Education In The Middle Ages Essay Education is the reason the world is filled with doctors, lawyers, policemen, accountants, and all the other occupations that fuel modern society. In 1330, only five percent of the English population was capable of reading and writing (Simkin). By 1500, sixty four Universities had been established in Europe (McKitterick 152). William I, Duke of Normandy, gained control over England after he conquered Harold at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Very few English citizens were educated at the time; the only people who possessed academic knowledge were part of the church. Medieval England developed at a rapid pace. Due to this growth, the need for education was urgent (Trueman). One can better understand the role of education by examining its historical roots. School in the Middle Ages relied on nature: it began at sunrise and ended at sunset and the breaks were based on when families needed their children in the fields ( Not what it used ). The school buildings consisted of one room where the boys studied with their teacher, who ordinarily had previous religious experience. If a mistake was made during the memorization process, the teacher would harshly slap the student s back side. No mistake would be made twice because of the memory of the horrible pain inflicted on the student (Trueman). Although the students who attended school were generally wealthy, students sat on the floor, utilizing a bone or an ivory stylus to write. The students took notes on wax coated wooden blocks ... • 44. Interpreter Of Maladies Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri Through her tasteful selection of contemporary Indian influenced prose pieces, Jhumpa Lahiri traces the unique journey of Indian families established in America. Focusing on the intergenerational aspect of traditional households, Lahiri conveys the emotional rollercoaster that accompanies a person who is branded as a foreigner. In America, there exists a common misconception that immigrants who arrive in this country fully assimilate or seek to assimilate as time progresses. The category I chose was The Dot of true Happiness. The dot which signifies the bindi, a traditional red mark worn by Indian people, is the source of true happiness among these immigrants. He has an established career as a professor and is invited to dinner parties on a regular basis by the Lilia s family. Yet this supposed success through assimilation is not where Mr, Pirzada finds satisfaction. Although his family is suffering in Dacca after a war time crisis, Pirzada is still able to find some sort of satisfaction at Lilia s house as he participates in Indian influenced activities. He plays a round of carom with the family, and chews on fennel seeds, as he experiences moments of happiness among the thoughts of the death of his family back home. Although stories like these are obvious in their presentation of the nostalgia Which induces comfort among immigrants, other selections display this in a more subtle and intricate manner. The two pieces, The Treatment of Bibi Haldar and The Third and Final Continent both compare and contrast the role marriage plays within the Indian and American communities by observing a transnational couple and a young woman in India who longs to be married. • 46. Rhetorical Analysis Of Lou Gehrig s Farewell To Baseball June 19th, 1939 one of the New York Yankees and baseball s most famous first baseman, Lou Gehrig, was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis after six days of extensive testing. Fifteen days later on July 4th, 1939 Lou Gehrig flew to Yankee stadium in New York and gave his famous, Farewell to Baseball speech. The speech wasn t just for Yankees fans, but for all fans of baseball. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS for short, is a a nervous system disease that weakens muscles and impacts physical function, usually killing the person in two to five years. Gehrig knew he didn t have long. That s why fifteen days after his diagnosis Gehrig was standing at home plate in Yankee stadium telling all baseball fans of his retirement due to illness. In under 300 words, using ethos, logos, and pathos, Gehrig transformed how baseball fans viewed him, not just as a player, but as a person. Gehrig showed the world how strong willed and fearless a person can be in the face of adversity. The credibility, or ethos, of Gehrig s speech was already there before he ever started the speech. At the time of the speech Gehrig held one MLB record, Gehrig had played in 2,130 consecutive baseball games, quite possibly the most honorable MLB record. He was very well known and well respected by all fans and players. In his speech Gehrig says, Who wouldn t consider it an honor to have known Jacob Ruppert? Also, the builder of baseball s greatest empire, Ed Barrow? To have spent six years with that wonderful little fellow, Miller Huggins? Then to have spent the next nine years with that outstanding leader, that smart student of psychology, the best manager in baseball today, Joe McCarthy? (1). In saying it showed his personal side of his baseball career, the places he has been, and the people he s had the wonderful opportunity to play baseball with. The respect the fans and players had for Gehrig only made his speech more credible, Lou Gehrig was loved by all baseball fans. The biggest part of Gehrig s speech is pathos, or the emotional part of his speech. In the first lines of the speech Gehrig grabs the audience s attention with emotional appeal by saying Fans, for the past two weeks you have been reading about a bad break I ... But there is a north american country, much closer, that is surging in the amount of violent crimes like those aforementioned: Mexico. Despite being widely known as a place for spring breakers to have parties or for families to enjoy the warm summer weather, in recent years, Mexico s crime and violence has gotten worse, with 40,000 lives taken since 2006. Even Acapulco, Mexico s most famous Pacific Port has been littered with tragic stories concerning shootings and robberies. Cancun and Cozumel, two of the biggest tourist towns represent some of the worst hazards. Cancun boasts a population of about 500,000. And like any city with that many people, crime makes itself right at home. Tijuana, one of Mexico s biggest and busiest cities, it s also one of the most crime ridden.
