My Experience With My Dad
I grew up in the central part of San Antonio, a small little white house with paint chipping all over.
The neighborhood I lived in was of much lower class. Both of my parents worked a lot; my dad was in
the military so he was not around very often. My mom worked at Citibank with a somewhat regular
work schedule. Every morning she would drop me off at my grandma s, and I would stay with my
grandma between 8 and 6 every day. My grandma spoke mainly Spanish, but growing up my parents
kept my first language as English and never spoke to me in Spanish so it was very hard for me to
communicate with my grandma especially if she forgot to tell me what she was saying in English.
Over time I just really wanted to understand what she was saying so I would ask her to teach me
things in Spanish. Every day we would sit down over lunch and my grandma would write on a piece
of paper different words in Spanish and teach me how to communicate the basics with people who
only spoke Spanish. It helped a lot, I was able to understand what she would tell me and even
sometimes speak with her in Spanish. Every night my mom would read to me, the same book Love
You Forever. She would read it to me so much that even though I couldn t read yet I had it memorized
almost like I was reading it. My mom would always say that she wished her mom read to her every
night when she was younger, but she never did. Every weekend my mom was off from work, so every
Saturday morning she would make sure that we

Titus Andronicus And A Comedy Of Errors
In many of Shakespeare s plays, he uses women to reflect on the social structures of Elizabethan
England. Specifically, in Titus Andronicus and A Comedy of Errors, Shakespeare appears to take a
very feministic approach on the role of women within society. Although women were not allowed the
same privileges as men during this time period, Shakespeare seems to attribute agency to the female
characters within his plays. In Shakespeare s Titus Andronicus and A Comedy of Errors, he uses
allusions, metaphorical language, and explicit imagery to create powerful identities for women in
order to critique the patriarchal structure of Elizabethan society. In order to understand the agency of
women in these plays, it is also important to consider the social context in which the plays were
written. Although the reign of Queen Elizabeth I provided the opportunity for the increase of women s
rights, there was still much progress to be made. In fact, women were often very reliant on the means
of either their fathers or their husbands. Although women did have access to education, it was not
education as we understand it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Antipholus of Syracuse says Sing, Siren, for thyself, and I will dote (A Comedy of
Errors 3.2.47) In the Oddyssey, the Sirens were creatures who lured sailors to their deaths using the
sound of their voices. Not only does this insinuate the beauty of Tamora, but it also suggests that she
has the power to use this beauty to overcome the power of her male counterparts. In this way,
Shakespeare attributes a great amount of agency to Lavinia, especially in relation to Antipholus. By
providing this agency to Tamora, Shakespeare provides a critique on Elizabethan society. He uses the
power of her character to suggest that regardless of the patriarchal structure of society, women still
have some level of power over

Shawshank Redemption
In the film The Shawshank Redemption by Frank Darabont, it informs us about the hardships in the
prison of Shawshank and hopes to achieve freedom. The characters in Shawshank Redemption present
a variety of social issues. Throughout Andy and Red s sentence in prison, issues of identity,
motivation, and anxiety are brought about within the film. Darabont shows us the affects of prison life
during and after a prisoner s sentence in prison. Shawshank Redemption portrays these social issues
through the movies s theme of finding freedom.
The idea freedom is presented in the scene earlier in the film, when one of the prisoners ask Andy at

As the years pass by, Andy develops a respect from his inmates and some of the guards by using his
banking skills and his education. By assisting the warden, Samuel Norton, with his financial
endeavors and trying to get a new library for Shawshank, Andy is able to slowly gain favor with the
prison s authority. However, by helping the warden embezzle money, Andy does not realize that this is
reducing his chances of ever leaving Shawshank because the warden does not want to get caught with
his crimes. Andy is taken advantage of and placed in solitary confinement, which further pushes him
to find freedom that he secretly has been planning all along. One morning, Andy s cell is empty and
the warden finds an escape route that Andy dug for twenty years with a rock hammer hidden in his
bible. In the end, Andy exposes the warden and moves to Mexico where Red will meet him when his
time in prison is complete. Hope is what Andy was fueled by and is what gave both Red and Andy
willpower to survive and seek for freedom.
In the movie Shawshank Redemption, social issues are evident and are portrayed through different
characters that are dealing with their individual desire for hope and freedom, each having a different
outlook on life. As the main character, Andy Dufresne has a goal of finding his own identity within the
prison of Shawshank by taking on different responsibilities and roles. Becoming a prison librarian, a

The Wascana Racing Canoe Club
When I was in grade 8, I joined the Wascana Racing Canoe Club. Ever since, sprint kayaking has been
a huge aspect of my life. I have attended the 2012 Saskatchewan Summer Games, 2013 Sherbrooke
Canada Summer Games, 2013 Montreal Canadian Canoe Kayak Nationals, 2014 Regina Canadian
Canoe Kayak Nationals, and the 2015 Ottawa Canadian Canoe Kayak Nationals. The picture above is
from the 2013 Canada Summer Games. My team boat partner, Alyssa, is one of my best friends. In
this picture, Alyssa and I are in a safety boat after tipping in a two person 6000 meter race. This
picture represents me in many ways. It depicts kayaking which is one of my passions, the value I put
on friendship, some of my qualities such as determination and commitment, and my inspiration for my
interest in physical therapy.
In the picture I chose, I am doing one of my passions, kayaking. I have been involved in kayaking for
5 years. It is a large aspect of my life as I spend between nine to fifteen hours a week training and
have traveled across Canada for various competitions. When I started kayaking, I went to a weeklong
summer camp and fell in love with the sport. I then joined racing program, which lasted the entire
summer. During this time, I had the opportunity to begin training in various team boats. As I spent
more time training, I became stronger and faster so my coach invited me to join the developmental
high performance group. In this group, I spent more time training vigorously and became

add online learning because it will increase the efficiency and effectiveness of it program
(Cheawjindakarn, Suwannatthachote, Theeraroungchaisri, 2012, p.61). This can be accomplished by
hiring online tutors. A case study found that in order for online course resources to be used effectively,
the CFSs that need to be considered are: human factors pertaining to the instructors; the instructors
and students technical competency; the instructors and students mindset (about learning); the level of
collaboration intrinsic in the course; and the level of perceived IT infrastructure and technical support
(Soong, Chan, Chua, Loh, 2000, p.102). These same CFSs align with WSE success factors. The
human factors pertaining to the instructors can be found under financial CSF. The instructors and
students technical competency is important in the learning and growth CSF. The instructors and
students mindset about learning can be found in the internal process of improving the letter grade or
increasing a student s GPA in less than 6 weeks. The level of collaboration intrinsic in the course and

Religion During The Enlightenment Era
The kingdom of God does not rule! During the enlightenment era, philosophers from Europe began to
question the standard practices used to maintain the social order of society. The concepts of religion,
government, and politics were all called into question by the great thinkers of Europe during this time.
Baruch Spinoza, Voltaire, and David Hume were 3 great thinkers of the enlightenment era who
questioned the role of religion in maintaining social order (Thinkers of the Enlightenment). Baruch
Spinoza, Voltaire, and David Hume were all important philosophers who helped decrease the power of
the church in Europe during the Enlightenment Era.
To begin, Baruch Spinoza, a Dutch Jewish philosopher during the Enlightenment era, began to
examine the belief systems of Judaism and Christianity (Thinkers of the Enlightenment). Spinoza did
believe in god but he did not support the practice of organized religion or the following of religious
scriptures (Thinkers of the Enlightenment).Spinoza felt strongly that ethics determined by rational
thought were more important as a guide to conduct than religion (Thinkers of the Enlightenment).
This illustrates Spinoza s emphasis on rationalism in helping to undermine the authority ... Show more

Voltaire was critical of the popular philosophies during his time particularly the notion of a divine
right of kings which proposed that god gave monarchs the right to rule (ThoughtCo.com, adapted by

which the power lies in the hands of the people and their elected representatives, with an elected
president at the top, as opposed to a monarch (Thinkers of the Enlightenment). This demonstrates
Voltaire s role in diminishing the power of the church in

Nuclear Proliferation Research Paper
One of the foremost growing concerns in the modern globalized world is the increasing rate of nuclear
proliferation. Coupled with the burgeoning number of nuclear devices is the threat of a terrorist
possibly obtaining a weapon of such magnitude. While one could argue that the rising number of
states with nuclear capability is a disturbing prospect, particularly as many pursue such capabilities
without the approval of the traditional nuclear powers, terrorists in possession of nuclear arms presents
the most horrific outlook concerning nuclear proliferation. Terrorist groups, unlike states, are not
organized governmental bodies, which complicates any means of formalized diplomacy or
negotiation. Furthermore, unlike as compared to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is conceivable that nuclear weapons in the hands of such groups would be used in a manner both to
wreak incredible destruction, and in a sort of religious homage to the relevant deity, particularly
because worldly consequences are not a central concern for religious terrorists, since they believe their
actions are dictated by a divine authority, (Stern, p.80).
Modern terrorists have come to the realization that they cannot defeat the United States in a
conventional war, but they can impose significant pain through acts of terrorism, (Stern, p.5). After a
century of American military, economic, and social success, the US has been elevated to the forefront
of the global community. A defense budget of $401.7 billion makes the United States the dominant
military force in the world, (2005 US Federal Budget). Furthermore, our history of success has
established a general sentiment of invincibility among American citizens, and an attack on our civilian
population would have tremendous ramifications, as was seen with the occurrence of September 11th.
However, unlike al Qaeda in Afghanistan under the Taliban, a nuclear attack may come from a group
that does not enjoy the sponsorship of a state, making retaliation quite complicated. This sense of
anonymity is another issue of terrorists with nukes that trumps a state with such capabilities. In the
case of a state, there is a particular, defined, and easily identifiable party

The nomadic Turks were invading the lands. They had a long history of invading others. But they

Executive Order 13526 imposed in United States is an example of a provision that handles classified
informations.
SECOND: Unclear definition of public entity.
Public entity is a body that obliged to give the informations to the public. In article 1 of Act number 14
year 2008, it is mentioned that the definition of public entity is an institution of executive, legislative,
judicative, and other institutions with the function relating to the state administrative or non
government institution of which receives budget from the state or from donation.
The definition of public entity given by the article is very broad and blur. It will only obscuring the
purpose of the existence of public service. The act itself does not regulate about the obligation of any
private business entities that is under contract with public entity, considering many cases occured
because of private entities claim to acting on behalf of the government to obtain certain legal permit.
This is the fundamental weakness of the act where it does not clearly regulates the subjects of the law
and still lacking further explanation regarding the public entity. Without it, people will be very hard to

Fisher s can also have a custom painted trailer with advertising on it for delivering and transporting
cars that have been restored. The trouble with this type of advertising will be finding well known
businesses willing to sponsor them and the cost of the ads. The other concept that Fisher s can use is
the retail and accessory market. Some of the different ways that it can use this market would be by
selling different types of products, for example, t shirts and hats. Fisher s can design some one of a
kind aftermarket kits for bumpers or hoods, or it can design its own custom wheel with the new logo.
The possibilities for the retail market can be almost endless. The drawbacks to this type of market
would be the product inventory, the shipping process, and the product liability. With inventory,
someone will be faced with inventory control and taxes. Shipping would require someone responsible
for boxing, labeling, and delivery. As for product liability, the company may have to increase the
amount of insurance should a product fail and end up in a lawsuit. Choosing a combination of
providing new services for boats and RV s, introducing a new image, and implementing a new
marketing strategy will work best for Fisher s to get the competitive edge over its competition.
Providing the new services to boats and RV s will generate a higher profit because insurance
companies have no set labor rate cost, so Fisher s will be able to mandate what it feels is fair to

The Problems With Birds Migrating Birds
There are many issues with aircrafts interacting with wild birds. The birds can get sucked into the
plane engines and harm the plane causing it to lose power and crash. Solutions are very limited due to
birds migrating, you can put stuff in order to keep local birds away, but you can t with migrating birds.
There is research to be done to figure out the best solution to this problem. There is two ways of
looking at this when birds hit planes causing damage to the plane or even bringing the plane down.
Much like, the canadian goose that hit the plane and brought it down into the Hudson River. This is a
big wildlife conservation what we can do to stop this from happening. There has been multiple studies
done to see if lights will help the birds see the planes coming so they will move out off the way of the
oncoming planes. The other way of looking at it is the planes harming the way the birds are living. A
lot of airports are by where the birds will nest. Also, the noise of the plane interferes and hurts the
roosting and feeding of the birds. This is a big wildlife management if these birds are being bothered
and put out of the way of where the birds are supposed to live, then there are solutions for new airports
being built in different, bird free, areas. The top priority is to keep the wild birds safe and to keep them
in their way of life and not to alter the way the birds live.
A plane was downed over New York when a bird was sucked into the jet engine. Flight 1459 just

Animals In Miss Julie Quotes
Symbolic Significance of Animals in Miss Julie by August Strindberg
The petty man conducts himself like an animal, yet wants others to think well of him.

Animals are the most basic form of human nature; they act without the external pressures of a society,
unlike humans. All animals have a variety of both positive and negative connotations, such as the
powerful yet wild eagle, and it is in a humans primitive nature to behave as they do. Miss Julie by

There are numerous shifts in power throughout the play, mainly conveyed through the use of dogs and
hawks. An example of this is the repetitive use of the word command . At the start of the play, Jean
states that he is At your command, Miss Julie , relating to the dog motif as it is a common connotation
of a dog to take commands from their master. Here, the dog motif is used to symbolise Miss Julie s
power over Jean. However, later this becomes complicated as Jean realises that the hawk s back was
as grey as its front; this statement insinuates that Miss Julie is not as noble and substantial as her
character alludes. This is proceeding the sexual encounter between the two characters and relates to
the falling dream of Miss Julie, as she has not only fallen in terms of virginity and honour, but also in
her perception by others, causing her to transform from the powerful hawk to the meek greenfinch.
Later, Miss Julie attempts to regain her power, You dog, who wears my collar, but again succumbs to
her natural less powerful state as a woman as she asks Jean to, Order me and I ll obey like a dog. The
constant shifts of power is also symbolic of their near equal social standings according to naturalistic

How Does a Family Work as a System Essay
How does a family work as a system in promoting health
Families are a natural social structure. The widely accepted definition of family is a group of two or
more people related by blood, marriage, or adoption (Medalie amp; Cole Kelly, 2002, p. 1277). This
definition is inclusive of the many different structures of families to allow for big, small, single parent,
dual parent, gay and lesbian, heterosexual, adoptive, and biological. The family plays an integral part
in the health of its members, which often leads to the stretching of the family unit beyond this
definition to include extended family. The family unit is more than a collection of units. Culture and

Families must be involved in the care of the child throughout treatment. The family is the fundamental
source of support to the child and to promote health family involvement is essential. To this end
parents and grandparents are not considered visitors but part of the team treating the child within our
organization. Goals must be mutually supported by the team; with barriers such as hidden expectations
and unclear roles eliminated through open communication. The desired outcome from this partnership
is a strengthening of family heath and well being (Freidman, Bowden, amp; Jones, 2003).
Hospitalization is a stressful event for the majority of individuals the nurse reacts in a manner to

The nurses role is to help stabilize the system through levels of prevention. Primary prevention is
meant to protect and strengthen the normal lines of defense. Secondary prevention the nurse

Analysis Of Savage Inequalities By Jonathan Kozol
Ideas and theories can cross over from one discipline to another. Taking an interdisciplinary approach,
can help interpret information about the world around us. Science helps solve puzzles. Sociobiology
explains survival and cultural behaviors. Concepts that start off in science, may be applied towards
sociology and culture in general. Thomas Kuhn presented the theory of paradigms over fifty years
ago. This theory can be applied towards changes outside of natural science. Change happens in nature
and in everyday lives. Richard Dawkins, a well known evolutionary biologist, changed the way people
viewed the world (Gleick, 2011). Sociobiology experts believe that evolution applies the

Jonathan Kozol has been an advocate and activist for equal rights in education for over fifty years
(Cody, 2011). In his book Savage Inequalities, Kozol presents the struggles and disparities in inner
city schools. Additionally, Dawkins s meme concept relates to the inequalities in educational funding
resources described by Jonathan Kozol in his book Savage Inequalities. The American dream is the
idea that every United States citizen will have an equal opportunity at success through hard work and
determination. This ideal is an example of a meme. An education is important in a person s success.
Working hard on one s education can lead to employment opportunities that will ensure success.
Kozol points out that due to unequal funding, not every student in the United States has the same
opportunity to attain the American dream. Schools that are predominately white and with healthy
budgets have a shot at the American dream. The American dream is not a slogan but a day to day
reality in schools like these (Kozol, 1991, p. 197). A central idea of Kozol s book is that inner city
schools do not have the same educational resources. Students are being denied the opportunity at the
American dream. Kozol repeatedly points out the lack of funding leading to inequalities evident at
schools such as East St. Louis. Schools that lack basic supplies such as chalk and paper (Kozol, 1991,
p. 30). Inner city school teachers receive salaries below the national average and must pay for supplies
out of their own pockets. They bring in their own magazines and VCRs in order to take advantage of
other teaching resources (Kozol, 1991, p. 35). Textbooks are a resource that every student should have
access to. Many inner city schools have outdated textbooks, if any at all. At Goudy in Chicago, eight
grade students are using fifteen year old textbooks (Kozol, 1991, p. 77). At the same school, there is a

The Provision Of Health Care Services
English essay 1
Esha K Gogri
Should the provision of health care services in an economy be left to the market or should the state
provide? Discuss with reference to the UK.
Health care services are medical and remedial care or service provided to the population of a nation.
Health care services can be provided by the state or left to privatization to provide. It is crucial for all
to have access to health care services, as it is a basic human right. In the UK, the National Health
Services is a publicly funded health care system. The NHS is financed directly through taxation and so
is freely available to citizens. (http://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/thenhs/about/Pages/overview.aspx)
The efficacy of the government provided NHS service is debatable as it can be argued that the
provision of health care services by the market is a better option. Although the market could provide
these services, it can be argued that the state should as it allows wider access, can positively impact
the labour force and increase economic growth and development.
The most convincing justification for government intervention in healthcare services is probably that
affordable, timely and quality healthcare is a basic and crucial human right
(http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs323/en/). Healthcare that is offered by the state aims to
ensure that the majority, if not all, have access to at least the most fundamental healthcare services
irrespective of their affluence. Vulnerable and

Bryan Thomas tried to decide which he wanted more, a repugnant drink or a quick fuck though either
way, he d still regret it in the morning. As he contemplated, a blonde haired, blue eyed beauty walks
into the bar with a friend. When the woman turned to her friend and then began to speak, Bryan
caught sight of her ass, so full and round, and he grinned.
He downed his Budweiser, paid his tab and with a smile, walked over to the woman who had captured
his attention. His eyes traveled over the blonde s incredible legs and when she turned around and saw
him, he lifted his eyes to meet hers. I hope you ladies don t mind if I interrupt, he said, ... Show more

They shared another kiss, walked out of the room and went downstairs. The party was still in full
swing as they reached the bottom of the stairs and took in all the people. The pair made their way to
the kitchen, each of them getting a beer and chatting as they drank. The two of them were relaxed and
enjoyed each other s company. Once the beers were gone, Ashleigh threw her cup away and then
turned back to Bryan.
Would you like to dance? She asked and waited for his reply, hoping that he would agree.
No thanks, I need to find a friend of mine. Maybe another time? Bryan suggested.
Sure, another time. Ashleigh grabbed another beer and then walked off to find someone to dance with.
Bryan searched for his roommate after Ashleigh walked off to dance. He eventually found Jay on the
back porch with his girlfriend and a brunette, who were drunk and in the process of trying to rip each
other s hair out. He stepped between the women and tried to get them to stop fighting, only to get
punched in the nose by Jay s girlfriend, Amy, and kicked in the nuts by the woman Jay had obviously
been flirting with. Alright, knock it off! Bryan yelled, which only earned him a glare from both
women and a frown from

Online Shopping And The Future Of All Business
Popularized by websites like Amazon and eBay. Online shopping and the virtual store may be the
future of all business. Online shoppers spent an estimated 126 billion in the U.S. alone in 2013. Seeing
exponential growth in coming years, Many major retailers have already made efforts to set up online
shops. Retail juggernauts like Walmart and Target have thrown their hats into the online arena with
websites of their own. Many more entrepreneurs have begun creating entire businesses online. The
reasons to take your company digital may be plentiful. As more of the world gains access to the
internet even more markets become accessible. With the advent of drone technology and better
delivery methods online sales and logistics are becoming easier and more cost efficient. Also online
stores and warehouses require less manpower making them cheaper. But a major impact of this growth
is the decline in recent years of big box retailers and subsequently the fall of The Mall . As more
consumers choose to do their shopping online many retailers and shopping centers are being left
behind. As the number of failing malls begin to rise and consumers choose in larger numbers to forgo
the lines and do their shopping online, it is a trend that we predict will grow in importance and impact
in the coming years. So in this paper we will discuss online retail and e commerce as a whole. We will
look at it s history and current impact. Then we will make some predictions

Non-Unionized Workplace Benefits
I would rather be part of a non unionized workplace. While there are certainly many benefits of
working as a member of a union, I enjoy having the freedom of being independent of the union. I
would prefer to negotiate the my own workplace contract because I know my worth as an employee, I
know both my assets and my liabilities, and can work to get the contract most suited to my needs. I
enjoy a workplace where promotions are based off personal worth and not seniority because it
encourages me to work harder at my job and provide better service. While I would enjoy the benefits
that come with working in a unionized workplace, such as more job security and training services, I do
not enjoy the political aspect of the unions or how much value is ... Show more content on

My First Assignment Analysis
I would have to be honest in saying that over the course of my college career, my standard of writing
has seen a fair amount of variation. In courses where I observed that the instructor was not as rigorous
in grading writing assignments, I allowed my writing to become more lax. This was evident when I
received the grading and comments for the first assignment for this class. My grade was decent, but
after analyzing the feedback, I knew that I was capable of producing better work. Many of the
mistakes made were thoughtless, avoidable errors. The dissatisfaction I felt towards my efforts on the
first assignment motivated me to strive for better results on future assignments. While I did not have
very many serious issues to address in my writing, I felt as though the few improvements that were
made have a significant impact on my quality of writing.
The first assignment addressed the factors of inseparability, intangibility, perishability, and variability
in regard to the hospitality industry. The two mistakes I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

throughout my paper where I wielded an overly strong tone. This could be seen through the use of
phrases such as you cannot, absolutely, and there is no way. Fortunately, there was a paragraph in my
paper which was identified as having a more appropriate tone. By contrasting the nature of the tones

The Enlightenment And Ideas Of The Enlightenment
The Enlightenment was a time of mathematical, scientific, and philosophical advancement. The
thoughts of philosophers like Voltaire, Montesquieu, and Locke inspired many, such as the Americans.
Their ideas about freedom of religion, civil liberties, free trade, and social reforms became the basis
that the Americans built their new country upon and impacted politics and culture. Due to the
advanced ideas that were emerging from Europe, religious views of the colonists started to alter.
Before enlightenment beliefs spread, the universally accepted theory was that human suffering was
inevitable. However, the new conjecture stated God set the universe in motion and gave humans the

Locke s Theory Rejecting Free Will Essay
In this essay I will argue against Locke s theory rejecting free will. I will claim that in Locke s Of
Power, he ultimately provides evidence for a limit on liberty in respect to will, rather than the denial of
liberty in respect to will altogether. I will provide evidence for my stance, by assessing Locke s
definitions for liberty, necessity, and will. I will also rationalize my thesis by assessing the legitimacy
of their relationship in respect to Locke s theory, and attempt to uncover answers to ambiguous
questions in Locke s doctrines.
Locke states that it is folly to suggest that the will can have liberty, is faulty due to them both being
powers. He states that powers can only be attributed to agents (people), and that it us improper to
suggest that the power of will can have the power of freedom. Moreover, to Locke, the correct
statement would be that a person is free to will. He states that an agent is limited in the liberty, to
either do or forebear doing something, and accordingly, the power of the will, or the act of it (volition)
has the same dual limitations; either willing to do something, or forbearing willing to do something. In
answer the question of what determines the will, Locke states one s actions are a result of pleasure
(good) and pain (evil). Either one s will attempts to seek pleasure, or eliminate pain (find a
comparatively less painful power than the currently proposed pain). Accordingly he considers desire
to be a form of pain, or unease.

Essay about Shakespeare s Sonnet 30 and Tennyson s In...
Loss has been experienced over centuries and many poets have written on the subject. William
Shakespeare s Sonnet 30 and Alfred Lord Tennyson s In Memoriam are two poems from different eras
that express the idea of loss. Both were written after the loss of a close male friend, and both are only
one poem from a series of poems. Shakespeare lived in England where he was born in 1564 and died
in 1616 and Tennyson also lived in England where he was born in 1809 and died in 1892, the poems
being written in 1609 and between 1833 and 1850 respectively. Whilst the poet s historical and

Also during this era, many people were questioning their religious beliefs. In Memoriam has been said
to reflect the Victorian feelings. (Victorian Contexts, class notes: page 102) This era influenced
Tennyson along with his poor mental state, it also mediates on the Victorians deepest concerns about
religious doubt, such as death, creation and evolution. In Memoriam touches on many intellectual
issues and the poet searches for the meaning of life and death while trying to come to terms with his
sense of loss. (Victorian Context, class notes: page 110) In Memoriam reflects the struggle to
reconcile traditional religious beliefs and faith which was a popular Victorian aspect of literature at the
time. The poem shows the development over three years of Tennyson s acceptance and understanding
of his friend s death. (Robson, W., 2013) With this cultural context, In Memoriam could be seen to be
written in a time of advancement and hope, however this contradicts the theme of loss of the poem.
The purpose of both poems is similar, both are about the loss of a male friend. The loss in Sonnet 30 is
about the loss of a possible lover and the speaker is grieving this love. An example of the friendship is

The Use Of Rhetorical Logos In The MLK Letter
If you have ever felt the stinging pain from someone calling you a name, imagine that pain 10,000
times worse, everyday, and it s not just words and names. It is punches being thrown from every
direction, and spit flying at you. Lynchings across the street from holy churches where white people
would praise the lord and his 10 commandments, but break his most sacred, Thou shalt not kill . This
isn t even half of what you would experience if you grew up in 1963 in Birmingham Alabama, the
most segregated town in America. This is when the life of MLK flourished, his words guided him in
and out of bad situations, and to lead hundreds of thousands for their civil rights. Although MLK is
clever in his use of rhetorical appeals, his two most effective were pathos, and anaphora, these
strategies provoke empathy and guilt from the white clergy, which generates a sense of exigency and
demand. MLK s use of pathos spreads throughout his letter, using pathos takes tolls on the reader
because of how strong his words are. While MLK fights through his time in Birmingham jail, he

Solution Of Homelessness In Canada
According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (Henry et al., 2016), over
500,000 people were homeless in the United States on one given night in January 2016. The Canadian
Observatory on Homelessness reported that 35,000 people were homeless in Canada around the same
time and that at least 235,000 Canadians experience homelessness at some point in a year (Gaetz et

Although both the U.S. and Canada have made some effort toward reducing and ending homelessness,

As homelessness became a larger issue in the country, the federal government began to pay more
attention to it. In 1987, Congress passed the Stewart B. McKinney Homeless Assistance Act, which
provided funding for emergency food and shelter programs specifically designed for the homeless
(Padgett et al., 2016). The Act also created the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness
(USICH), which was largely inactive until 2002 (Padgett et al., 2016). At this point, federal
homelessness policy managed homelessness by providing shelters and other short term solutions, as
opposed to preventing homelessness and actually getting people off the street.
Despite millions of dollars from Congress funding services for the homeless, homelessness did not
decrease in he U.S. during the 1980s or 1990s. Since then, an ideology known as Housing First has
come into popularity, which will be elaborated on in the literature review section. The National

prioritizes providing people experiencing homelessness with permanent housing as quickly as possible

Analysis Of The Story Cathedral
Cathedral The story Cathedral demonstrates that lack of sight does not necessarily prevent one from
perceiving things as they are, or live their life to the fullest. In the story, a middle age blind man, who
is a friend to the narrator s wife, and used to be her boss at one point, visits the narrator and his wife.
The narrator has never interacted with blind people before, and all he knew about blind people was
what he had seen on television. Blind people are stereotypically portrayed on television as slow
moving, dull people, who never laugh. Based on this perception, the narrator was reluctant to meet the
blind man and doubted whether they were going to connect. This is evident when the narrator states, I
wasn t enthusiastic about his visit. He was no one I knew. And his being blind bothered me (Carver 1).
The doubt the narrator had towards blind people his further evident when the blind man arrives at his
house. On seeing the blind man for the first time in the parking lot, the narrator noticed that the blind
man had a beard, but he thought that it was unusual. This is evident when the narrator remarks, This
blind man, feature this, he was wearing a full beard! A beard on a blind man! Too much, I say (Carver
4). The skeptical view, the narrator had towards blind people is further brought out when the narrator
was being told about the death of the blind man s wife. The narrator could not imagine a man
marrying a woman, living together, and having sex with

Road traffic accidents is a global issue which needs urgent attention. About 1.24 million people die
each year as a result of road traffic crashes. If this issue is not addressed the number of deaths is
expected to increase to around 1.9 million. In addition to that tens of millions are injured. The topic of
road safety is neglected in third world countries although road accidents is the leading cause of death

the relationship between the accident rate and the factors that influence the accidents such as
competence, road conditions, vehicle condition etc. Finally recommendations on how to tackle these
factors will be delivered in order to reduce road accidents and therefore death rates.
Objectives of the Research
This research will focus on Lebanon as the main developing country. Primary causes of road traffic

and needs a lot of interpretation. Increase in vehicle owner has also led to an increase in road accidents
and injuries. However there are also other factors that influence the increase of accidents and injuries.
In addition to that human related causes over the previous decades have increased the complexity of
the problem. Therefore an urgent attention is need to investigate and tackle the trends that lead to

Value of Equity and Per Share Value when there are options and warrants outstanding
Aswath Damodaran
1
Equity Value and Per Share Value: A Test l Assume that you have done an equity valuation of
Microsoft. The total value for equity is estimated to be $ 170 billion and there are 1204 million shares
outstanding. What is the value per share?
2
An added fact l On September 30, 1997, Microsoft had 258 million options outstanding, granted to
employees over time. These options had an average exercise price of $ 42 (the current stock price i $
140). Estimate the value per share.

The Conversion Option l l
In a typical convertible bond, the bondholder is given the option to convert the bond into a specified
number of shares of stock. The conversion ratio measures the number of shares of stock for which
each bond may be exchanged. Stated differently, the market conversion value is the current value of
the shares for which the bonds can be exchanged. The conversion premium is the excess of the bond
value over the conversion value of the bond. The conversion option in a convertible bond is equity.
9
Convertible Bond Value and the Conversion Option
10
Determinants of Value of Conversion Option l The conversion option is a call option on the
underlying stock, and its value is therefore determined by the variables that affect call option values
the underlying stock price, the conversion ratio (which determines the strike price), the life of the
convertible bond, the variance in the stock price and the level of interest rates.
11
Factors in Using Option Pricing Models to Value Convertibles and Warrants l Option pricing models
can be used to value the conversion option with three caveats
conversion options are long term, making the assumptions about constant variance and constant
dividend yields much shakier, conversion options result in stock dilution, and conversion options are
often exercised before expiration, making it dangerous to use European option pricing

Privatization can be defined as transfer of ownership of business or property to private companies
from the government. When any public company becomes private, then in that company the investor
cannot purchase a stake.

Pakistan. The Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has first conceived and implemented the idea of
privatization, in order to enable the nationalized companies and industries towards market economy. It
has initiated 1989 90 immediately just after the economic collapse of Soviet Union. The program has
visualized and envisaged, to enhance the growth of GDP of the national economy of Pakistan (Khan,

On Being an Atheist, by H.J. McCloskey Essay
In the article On Being an Atheist, H.J. McCloskey attempts to inform his readers that the belief in
atheism is a much more comfortable belief by effectively using a disdainful rhetoric towards theists
and their faith. McCloskey delves into both the Cosmological and Teleological arguments, which
within he criticizes the arguments and to further his argument against theism, he also presents the
Problem of Evil and why evil cannot possibly exist with a perfect God being the creator of universe.
What will be displayed in this essay are the counter arguments to McCloskey s criticisms and the
attempt to discredit his claims that regard the comfortable position that lies within atheism and its
arguments. H.J. McCloskey utilizes the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The argument discussed is one that has an unending list of contingent beings, all of which need a
cause for existence. According to the article, McCloskey assumes that the argument calls for an
uncaused cause to start an infinite number of contingent beings. McCloskey believes that each
contingent being simply exists with an infinite number of causes that eventually lead back to a case of
chance. In Philosophy of Religion by Stephen Evans, Evans refers to this way of thinking as a brute
fact. According to Evans, by claiming this stance would turn the partial argument into a whole
argument and concurrently, this will require the defender of the argument to claim that the
contingency of the whole of the universe can validly be inferred from the contingency of all its parts.
Where McCloskey s ignorance further takes a violent curve against acquiring knowledge about the
beginning of the universe connects to his argument is when he said This means that the first cause
must be explained as being a necessarily existing being, one who cannot exist. What he is alluding to,
and is also the focal point of his disapproval of theism, is that humans do not have the right to claim
that a being created the universe. If an atheist can claim that there is no such existence of God, then
why is it that a theist cannot claim the existence of a God? In the

The Face That Launch D A Thousand Ships By Christopher...
Beauty has always been one of society s accomplishments, objectives and obsessions since the
beginning of time. Beauty is fought over, wrote about, spoken of and thought of constantly. Helen of
Troy is one example. Her beauty was talked of far and wide, even as a young child. This caused her to
be a target at a young age for other kingdoms and realms. Beauty can cause people to do rash things. It
always has and always will. People want what they can not have, and for some that is beauty. Beauty
is manipulative. It can get a person fame, wealth, love, followers and discouragers. Helen of Troy is
one who is very familiar to the gift of beauty. Helen used the gift to her advantage, wooing many a

Malaria In The United States
About one million people die of malaria every year yet it is not highly publicized in the United States.
This is because malaria is not as prevalent in the United States as it is in other parts of the world such
as Africa, Asia and South America. Numerous amounts of people in the United States have heard
about malaria but a lot of people do not know exactly what the disease is. Although people who get
the disease are typically poor, malaria is a parasitic disease that can affect anyone, including the
healthy and wealthy if the right precautions are not taken. This is evident in the case of Fausto Coppi,
a wealthy Italian cyclist who died of malaria in 1959.
Malaria is a disease of the blood that is transmitted from person to person by a female ... Show more

For starters, Coppi could have taken an antimalarial drug 1 2 days before travelling to Burkina Faso, a
country where high malaria transmission occurs and 80 percent of malaria cases are of this deadly
strain. Additionally, the right precaution to take would be using insecticide mosquito nets, which offer
protection against insects and the diseases they carry. Due to the fact that insecticide treated nets kill
the mosquitoes, they help reduce malaria transmission. Bed nets have been shown to greatly reduce
malaria morbidity and mortality. Lastly, Coppi could have been treated with ACTs as opposed to
medication used for bronchial

Iris Protea Suffering From Anorexia Nervosa
Reflection:
The Gardeners details the experiences of protagonist Iris Protea suffering from Anorexia Nervosa, in
essence symbolic of the internal struggles we face daily. The conflict illuminated through my text is
psychological conflict. The brain is such a powerful yet vulnerable tool, and the effect it has on an
individual when morphed into something dangerous and overbearing is a beautiful insecurity inspiring
my text. Iris is battling with her emotional disharmonies, echoed by her misinterpretations of the
world around her. Iris mistakes beauty and positivity for cruelty and malignancy, portrayed through
the foreshadowing of the wind and the extended metaphor of a garden. The notion of a garden is so
central to life itself, the clash of both weeds and flowers, the catalyst of sunlight to grow, and the
pruning we require to replenish ourselves as humans and learn from the dreaded seeds that plant
themselves in our lives. Physical conflict is also delved in the piece, a product of Iris ... Show more

One I cannot hear. The only beacon of hope piercing through Ward 23A, Iris Protea s room. My eyes

are a soft lilac. My veins bulge under a thin sheet of flesh, narrow canals of cerulean rivers. Nothing is
wrong with me. They re wrong. The gardeners. Aged, benign prints with flaking frames cling to the
walls. They show luscious meadows and fields of flowers. Nothing but weeds disguised by dainty
pansies. Anthophobia. The fear of flowers. A wheelbarrow. Skittering down the long corridor.

Climate Change Causes
Abstract
Climate change in today s world has become of great concern due to its effects in the environment.
Globally, climate change has greatly influenced ecosystems and the existence of organisms. This is
further extending its effects to regional areas such as Kenya, whose ecosystem is not spared by the
changing climate. Despite having natural causes, anthropogenic factors are widely increasing and
causing climate change undisputed. Therefore, human activities are the main contributors of climate
change leading to stress and ecosystem strain, to continue providing for its services. In this report I
discuss summary of global climate change and regional focus on causes of climate change in Kenya,
its effects in ecosystem especially on the natural ecosystems, current measures to curb the effects and
the perception of the future ecosystem of the country.
Introduction
Climate change is defined as a change of climate that is attributed directly or indirectly to human
activity that alters the composition of the global atmosphere and that is in addition to natural climate
variability observed over comparable time periods (UNFCC, 1992). (source(GoK, 2012). Which is
understood as the average change in weather patterns over a long period of time, caused by both
human activities and natural factors, such as deforestation from increasing human population and
activities, industrialization, urbanization, volcanic eruptions, and much more leading to excess carbon
dioxide, nitrous

An Example Of The Cocktail Party And Inattentional Blindness
We think important objects and events in our world will automatically grab our attention, but they
often don t, particularly when our attention is focused on something else. Cocktail Party Effect
describes the ability to focus your hearing on one specific thing even though noise is all around you. It
is named such because this occurs when you are at a party you can focus on the conversation you are
having with the person close to you and can ignore all the other noise and conversation going on
around you. Your brain helps you selectively focus on the person you are talking too and mutes the
other conversation, music, and general noise around you. Whereas, the failure to notice unexpected
objects or events when attention is focused elsewhere is now known as inattentional blindness. The
interface between attention and consciousness are examples of the Cocktail party and Inattentional
blindness.
Per the website, Psychology.wikia, the cocktail party effect is an example of selective attention and is
the phenomenon of being able to focus one s auditory attention on a stimulus while filtering out a
range of other stimuli, much the same way that a partygoer can focus on a single conversation in a
noisy room. This effect is what allows most people to tune in to a single voice and tune out all others.
It may also describe a similar phenomenon that occurs when one may immediately detect words of
importance originating from unattended stimuli, for instance hearing one s name in

  • 2. My Experience With My Dad I grew up in the central part of San Antonio, a small little white house with paint chipping all over. The neighborhood I lived in was of much lower class. Both of my parents worked a lot; my dad was in the military so he was not around very often. My mom worked at Citibank with a somewhat regular work schedule. Every morning she would drop me off at my grandma s, and I would stay with my grandma between 8 and 6 every day. My grandma spoke mainly Spanish, but growing up my parents kept my first language as English and never spoke to me in Spanish so it was very hard for me to communicate with my grandma especially if she forgot to tell me what she was saying in English. Over time I just really wanted to understand what she was saying so I would ask her to teach me things in Spanish. Every day we would sit down over lunch and my grandma would write on a piece of paper different words in Spanish and teach me how to communicate the basics with people who only spoke Spanish. It helped a lot, I was able to understand what she would tell me and even sometimes speak with her in Spanish. Every night my mom would read to me, the same book Love You Forever. She would read it to me so much that even though I couldn t read yet I had it memorized almost like I was reading it. My mom would always say that she wished her mom read to her every night when she was younger, but she never did. • 3. Titus Andronicus And A Comedy Of Errors In many of Shakespeare s plays, he uses women to reflect on the social structures of Elizabethan England. Specifically, in Titus Andronicus and A Comedy of Errors, Shakespeare appears to take a very feministic approach on the role of women within society. Although women were not allowed the same privileges as men during this time period, Shakespeare seems to attribute agency to the female characters within his plays. In Shakespeare s Titus Andronicus and A Comedy of Errors, he uses allusions, metaphorical language, and explicit imagery to create powerful identities for women in order to critique the patriarchal structure of Elizabethan society. In order to understand the agency of women in these plays, it is also important to consider the social context in which the plays were written. Although the reign of Queen Elizabeth I provided the opportunity for the increase of women s rights, there was still much progress to be made. In fact, women were often very reliant on the means of either their fathers or their husbands. Although women did have access to education, it was not education as we understand it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, Antipholus of Syracuse says Sing, Siren, for thyself, and I will dote (A Comedy of Errors 3.2.47) In the Oddyssey, the Sirens were creatures who lured sailors to their deaths using the sound of their voices. Not only does this insinuate the beauty of Tamora, but it also suggests that she has the power to use this beauty to overcome the power of her male counterparts. During the enlightenment era, philosophers from Europe began to question the standard practices used to maintain the social order of society. The concepts of religion, government, and politics were all called into question by the great thinkers of Europe during this time. Baruch Spinoza, Voltaire, and David Hume were 3 great thinkers of the enlightenment era who questioned the role of religion in maintaining social order (Thinkers of the Enlightenment). Some of the different ways that it can use this market would be by selling different types of products, for example, t shirts and hats. In his book Savage Inequalities, Kozol presents the struggles and disparities in inner city schools. Additionally, Dawkins s meme concept relates to the inequalities in educational funding resources described by Jonathan Kozol in his book Savage Inequalities. The American dream is the idea that every United States citizen will have an equal opportunity at success through hard work and determination. This ideal is an example of a meme. An education is important in a person s success. Working hard on one s education can lead to employment opportunities that will ensure success. Kozol points out that due to unequal funding, not every student in the United States has the same opportunity to attain the American dream. Schools that are predominately white and with healthy budgets have a shot at the American dream. The American dream is not a slogan but a day to day reality in schools like these (Kozol, 1991, p. 197). A central idea of Kozol s book is that inner city schools do not have the same educational resources. Students are being denied the opportunity at the American dream. Kozol repeatedly points out the lack of funding leading to inequalities evident at schools such as East St. Louis. Schools that lack basic supplies such as chalk and paper (Kozol, 1991, p. 30). Inner city school teachers receive salaries below the national average and must pay for supplies out of their own pockets. Discuss with reference to the UK. Health care services are medical and remedial care or service provided to the population of a nation. Health care services can be provided by the state or left to privatization to provide. It is crucial for all to have access to health care services, as it is a basic human right. In the UK, the National Health Services is a publicly funded health care system. The NHS is financed directly through taxation and so is freely available to citizens. (http://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/thenhs/about/Pages/overview.aspx) The efficacy of the government provided NHS service is debatable as it can be argued that the provision of health care services by the market is a better option. Although the market could provide these services, it can be argued that the state should as it allows wider access, can positively impact the labour force and increase economic growth and development. The most convincing justification for government intervention in healthcare services is probably that affordable, timely and quality healthcare is a basic and crucial human right (http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs323/en/). • 24. My First Assignment Analysis I would have to be honest in saying that over the course of my college career, my standard of writing has seen a fair amount of variation. In courses where I observed that the instructor was not as rigorous in grading writing assignments, I allowed my writing to become more lax. This was evident when I received the grading and comments for the first assignment for this class. My grade was decent, but after analyzing the feedback, I knew that I was capable of producing better work. Many of the mistakes made were thoughtless, avoidable errors. The dissatisfaction I felt towards my efforts on the first assignment motivated me to strive for better results on future assignments. While I did not have very many serious issues to address in my writing, I felt as though the few improvements that were made have a significant impact on my quality of writing. The first assignment addressed the factors of inseparability, intangibility, perishability, and variability in regard to the hospitality industry. The two mistakes I ... • 28. Locke s Theory Rejecting Free Will Essay In this essay I will argue against Locke s theory rejecting free will. I will claim that in Locke s Of Power, he ultimately provides evidence for a limit on liberty in respect to will, rather than the denial of liberty in respect to will altogether. I will provide evidence for my stance, by assessing Locke s definitions for liberty, necessity, and will. I will also rationalize my thesis by assessing the legitimacy of their relationship in respect to Locke s theory, and attempt to uncover answers to ambiguous questions in Locke s doctrines. Locke states that it is folly to suggest that the will can have liberty, is faulty due to them both being powers. He states that powers can only be attributed to agents (people), and that it us improper to suggest that the power of will can have the power of freedom. Moreover, to Locke, the correct statement would be that a person is free to will. He states that an agent is limited in the liberty, to either do or forebear doing something, and accordingly, the power of the will, or the act of it (volition) has the same dual limitations; either willing to do something, or forbearing willing to do something. In answer the question of what determines the will, Locke states one s actions are a result of pleasure (good) and pain (evil). Either one s will attempts to seek pleasure, or eliminate pain (find a comparatively less painful power than the currently proposed pain). Accordingly he considers desire to be a form of pain, or unease. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Victorian Contexts, class notes: page 102) This era influenced Tennyson along with his poor mental state, it also mediates on the Victorians deepest concerns about religious doubt, such as death, creation and evolution. In Memoriam touches on many intellectual issues and the poet searches for the meaning of life and death while trying to come to terms with his sense of loss. (Victorian Context, class notes: page 110) In Memoriam reflects the struggle to reconcile traditional religious beliefs and faith which was a popular Victorian aspect of literature at the time. The poem shows the development over three years of Tennyson s acceptance and understanding of his friend s death. In Philosophy of Religion by Stephen Evans, Evans refers to this way of thinking as a brute fact. This caused her to be a target at a young age for other kingdoms and realms. Beauty can cause people to do rash things. It always has and always will. People want what they can not have, and for some that is beauty. Beauty is manipulative. It can get a person fame, wealth, love, followers and discouragers. Helen of Troy is one who is very familiar to the gift of beauty. Helen used the gift to her advantage, wooing many a man, and even starting the Trojan War just because of ... • 48. Malaria In The United States About one million people die of malaria every year yet it is not highly publicized in the United States. This is because malaria is not as prevalent in the United States as it is in other parts of the world such as Africa, Asia and South America. Numerous amounts of people in the United States have heard about malaria but a lot of people do not know exactly what the disease is. Although people who get the disease are typically poor, malaria is a parasitic disease that can affect anyone, including the healthy and wealthy if the right precautions are not taken. This is evident in the case of Fausto Coppi, a wealthy Italian cyclist who died of malaria in 1959. Malaria is a disease of the blood that is transmitted from person to person by a female ... For starters, Coppi could have taken an antimalarial drug 1 2 days before travelling to Burkina Faso, a country where high malaria transmission occurs and 80 percent of malaria cases are of this deadly strain. Additionally, the right precaution to take would be using insecticide mosquito nets, which offer protection against insects and the diseases they carry. Due to the fact that insecticide treated nets kill the mosquitoes, they help reduce malaria transmission. Bed nets have been shown to greatly reduce malaria morbidity and mortality. Lastly, Coppi could have been treated with ACTs as opposed to medication used for bronchial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Iris Protea Suffering From Anorexia Nervosa Reflection: The Gardeners details the experiences of protagonist Iris Protea suffering from Anorexia Nervosa, in essence symbolic of the internal struggles we face daily. The conflict illuminated through my text is psychological conflict. The brain is such a powerful yet vulnerable tool, and the effect it has on an individual when morphed into something dangerous and overbearing is a beautiful insecurity inspiring my text. Iris is battling with her emotional disharmonies, echoed by her misinterpretations of the world around her. Iris mistakes beauty and positivity for cruelty and malignancy, portrayed through the foreshadowing of the wind and the extended metaphor of a garden. The notion of a garden is so central to life itself, the clash of both weeds and flowers, the catalyst of sunlight to grow, and the pruning we require to replenish ourselves as humans and learn from the dreaded seeds that plant themselves in our lives. Physical conflict is also delved in the piece, a product of Iris ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I watch the particles of dust dancing through the ray, gliding, darting and swaying to a muted melody. One I cannot hear. The only beacon of hope piercing through Ward 23A, Iris Protea s room. My eyes drift to the crisp, thinning sheet of the clinic bed. My arms are pale, transparent ivory. My fingernails are a soft lilac. My veins bulge under a thin sheet of flesh, narrow canals of cerulean rivers. Nothing is wrong with me. They re wrong. The gardeners. Aged, benign prints with flaking frames cling to the walls. They show luscious meadows and fields of flowers. Nothing but weeds disguised by dainty pansies. Anthophobia. The fear of flowers. A wheelbarrow. Skittering down the long corridor. Approaching. Louder, louder. They re coming. My eyes scan the room in urgency. The gardeners. A woman enters the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. An Example Of The Cocktail Party And Inattentional Blindness We think important objects and events in our world will automatically grab our attention, but they often don t, particularly when our attention is focused on something else. Cocktail Party Effect describes the ability to focus your hearing on one specific thing even though noise is all around you. It is named such because this occurs when you are at a party you can focus on the conversation you are having with the person close to you and can ignore all the other noise and conversation going on around you. Your brain helps you selectively focus on the person you are talking too and mutes the other conversation, music, and general noise around you. Whereas, the failure to notice unexpected objects or events when attention is focused elsewhere is now known as inattentional blindness. The interface between attention and consciousness are examples of the Cocktail party and Inattentional blindness. Per the website, Psychology.wikia, the cocktail party effect is an example of selective attention and is the phenomenon of being able to focus one s auditory attention on a stimulus while filtering out a range of other stimuli, much the same way that a partygoer can focus on a single conversation in a noisy room. This effect is what allows most people to tune in to a single voice and tune out all others. It may also describe a similar phenomenon that occurs when one may immediately detect words of importance originating from unattended stimuli, for instance hearing one s name in ...
