Mink Stereotypes
Mink (Neovison vison) Introduction Mink (Neovison vison previously Mustela vison)(Ahola et
al., 2011) are semi aquatic carnivorous mammals (Heyen et. al., 2011). In the wild they are a
solitary and very territorial species some some aspects of their way of living in the wild have
been replicated for use in mink farming (Pedersen et al., 2003) for example breeding stock are
housed individually (Meagher et al., 2014) however juveniles may be housed in groups (Alumu
et al., 2014), individually (Pedersen et al., 2003) or more likely in male female pairs (Hänninen
et al., 2008). Other aspects of their natural habitats have been excluded from their farm habitats,
such as access to a swimming area, in the wild mink habitats are close to water since... Show more

During the year mink will be moved into other cages four to six times with their identities given
by cards attached to their cages that are moved with them (Meagher et al., 2014). As they are
solitary and territorial creatures, breeding stock are housed individually and brought together for
mating in February/March, then pregnant females are moved into whelping pens just before
giving birth in April/May (Meagher et al., 2014). After birth the juveniles live with their mothers
for approximately two months before being weaned (Meagher et al., 2014) then after weaning
the juvenile mink are kept in male female pairs until they are approximately six months old
(Hänninen et al., 2008). Then some mink are selected to be used as breeding stock and are
housed individually while the rest are killed for their pelts (Meagher et al., 2014). Another form of
housing that is becoming increasingly more common for juvenile mink is group housing as it
decreases the cost of housing the mink by increasing the stocking density (Alumu et al., 2014) and
group housed juveniles may be less stressed than pair housed juveniles and they show

The Onion Summary
In the article by the Onion, the Onion displays the rise of a prison firm as an ingenious success
story. By the clever use of satire and overstatements about the company s work, he achieves the
purpose of over glorifying a simple government corrections group while highlighting the need for
prison reform. The articles uses plenty of satire and sarcasm to achieve his purpose. The Onion
portrays Mr. Park, the owner of Harbor Corrections Group as a modern success story of one who
started from nothing. The articles jokes about Parks humble beginnings as he started with a 6 cell
prison and barely got enough money to finance his newer big one. The article portrays him as a
hard worker and person who loves his job by referencing his 3 part workers... Show more content on

The articles portrays Parks proud of what he has done in which to keep his prisons a float and
keep prisons full. Usually, more prisoners means more money that must be put into the system to
house them. Parks states that is quite different. He states that more prisoners allow more
workers who could do hard manual labor for only pennies a day . He praises over crowding of
facilities and boast of all the much needed income is coming in. Furthermore, to support his
support of rise prisoners in his already overcrowded facility, he states that he had to to ask for
donations from the community in order to keep his place open. This section is full of sarcasm
and verbal irony. In the real word, overcrowded prisons are a headache for the state and result in
more money needed to maintain the system. Also, hard manual labor is not profitable. This use of
satire in glorifying the overcrowding and hard manual labor that prisoners do portrays to the point
that The Onion is highlighting. The idea of putting more and more prisoners into one, already full
prison is a completely ridiculous idea. Furthermore, this sarcasm highlights that any form of hard
labor is ever going to pay off what is near the cost to house that

Punk Rock Is A Subclass Of Rock And Roll
me to kick back and relax. A heavy and loud rock song for example, would not fall under my chill
playlist. A heavy rock song would be more suitable for the rock playlist that I have. Songs have
different characteristics, while also evoking different feelings within the those who listen. This
fact hints at the concept of subclasses and super classes. For example, the genre rock and roll
could be the super class of punk rock, because Rock and Roll is a fairly broad category of music
and punk rock is a more specific type or flavor of rock; thus showing how punk rock is a subclass
of Rock and Roll. Punk Rock is a category within a category of music. Rock and Roll
demonstrates how a genre can evolve from being relatively specific to generally broad as time
progresses and new music is introduced over the years. With the superclass of Rock and Roll at
the top of the hierarchy, under it could be other subclasses like hard rock, blues rock, pop rock,
psychedelic rock, Christian rock, Latin Rock, southern rock, etc. I would not consider my
grouping of music to be mutually exclusive. For instance, I may have one song that is on
multiple playlists. The song Summer, by the artist Calvin Harris, is on both my party playlist and
my Electronic Dance Music playlist. This particular song qualifies and meets the guidelines for
both these playlists that I made. The type of song that I was looking to add in each playlist was
achieved. I would consider my grouping to be

Short Story Essay
Short Story
Once in a small cottage deep in a thickly overgrown forest there was a young boy who lived with
his mother, his father and his elder sisters, two of the most beautiful girls in the whole of Ireland.
This forest was different to the many others that form a blanket over this enchanted land. The
young boy often quarrelled with his sisters and felt that their talents overshadowed him. The two
beautiful girls were not only very fair of face but also always endeavoured to do well in their
studies and were a great help to the mother around the cottage.
One day, a day which seemed unusual to the young boy from ... Show more content on

The young boy now very intrigued by the fairies his sisters were discussing started to skip along
more hurriedly behind the girls so that he also may catch a glimpse of a fairy. As Luke begun to run
faster his footsteps became louder and more noticeable until eventually the elder of his sisters
turned around to see if they were being followed. The elder sister was extremely vexed to see that
Luke had followed them and begun to scold Luke, forgetting that they might disturb a hidden fairy.
All of a sudden the three siblings became overwhelmed by the presence of a minute and delicate
creature. Luke thought to himself that this must be one of the fairies his sisters had set out to see.
The pocket sized creature was female and perfect in form. The small fairy women or Banshee in
Gaelic had long golden hair and had beauty comparable to his sisters. Fairies were widespread in
Ireland however some only were found in solitude and dislike the company of other fairy folk
and especially mortals. The fairies pale skin was intensely distinct against the black of the densely
wooded forest. Luke and his sisters were in awe of the tiny creatures presence but almost as
suddenly as she had appeared the Banshee disappeared.
Luke had been so scared of his sisters anger at him for causing the Banshee to spot them that he

Amistad Field Trip
To be honest, I really did not want to go to see the Amistad, even though I had completed all
written requirements because I believed the boat was small and cramped. Jackie, who was the
instructor of the Amistad, who spoke at Options, gave us background history about the boat. It was
from this background history that I interpreted the boat was small and cramped. Even though I had
not seen the boat in person, I believed it was tiny and restricted.
My teachers at Options and my parents tried to convince me to go on the Amistad field trip. Elin
offered me information about who was going on the trip, the food that was being ordered, and
staff that were going. The Options staff that were traveling to see the ship were my teachers. My
parents persuaded me by stating that this might be the only time I see a piece of history like this
because the Amistad sails all over the country. One never knows when the Amistad will be in port
in Connecticut.
My anxiety concerning the size of the boat dissipated because the Amistad ... Show more content on

down backwards like on a latter) I got nervous knowing my might slip and fall as it was raining
with my wet shoes. Wendy went first and was my spotter and helped me get down. After we got
down we learned some more history. Afterwards, we went above deck and learned how to tie
knots when you sail on a ship. I surprised myself at how well I was able to do some of them.
Next, we went to the other side of the ship and learned how they navigate the ship with their
compass. After all that we took a few pictures and had lunch, then left to go back to

Effects Of Anxiety And Ill Health
Assessing the Impact of Mood on the Physiological Response to Acute Stressors
Project Summary
There is a well established link between stress and ill health. However, a gap in the literature reveals
that the underlying mechanisms triggering the onset of ill health are not fully understood.
Numerous stress ill health theories believe that affect can mediate the effect of stress on
physiological responses (Chida Hamer, 2008). The aim in this study is to investigate the
relationship between psychological aspects (mood, emotion, and coping) and sympathetic system
responses to an acute stress challenge. Saliva samples will be collected from the participants before
and after the acute stress challenge to calculate the presence of the enzyme ... Show more content on

Research Project Description
Aims
The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between various psychological responses
(mood, emotion and coping) and the sympathetic nervous system response to an acute stress
challenge. This will help understand the underlying mechanisms in the stress ill health relationship
and will increase the knowledge about how psychological aspects may reduce physiological
responses. Therefore, the collected knowledge will help form future interventions.
Background and Significance
Stress is known to negatively impact health. Psychological responses, such as mood, emotion and
coping, influence the way we perceive stress and the impact it has on the physiological response
(Chida Hamer, 2008). Past studies have used the hormone cortisol to test the stress
response(Dickerson

Pitbulls Speech
I have a dream that one day, pit bulls will not be judged by the name of their breed, but by the
content of their character. Everyday around the world, pit bulls are killed because of the size of
their head and not the size of their heart. Breed specific laws have threatened pit bulls in other
countries as well as our own. In Ireland, a dog can be seized by police if they are suspicious that it
is a pit bull. They will then measure the innocent dog and if its muscle mass and width matches the
length of a pitbull, then the dog is instantly put on death row such as those in Alcatraz. There is
absolutely no way that that poor, innocent animal can be saved from that point onward. That dog
could have saved someone s life. That dog could have went... Show more content on

Yet around the world and here at home, we do. We do reject something that we know nothing
about because we are scared. We are too busy thinking about what evil it could do that we forget
to stop and think about what evil we are doing. We need to lock up the real beasts, the ones on
the other end of the leash. The owner is the one that raised those dogs to attack, to fight, to bite
and hold on. Well, pit bulls do bite and hold on, to your heart. Humans buy the pit bull. Humans
over breed the pit bull. Humans make the pit bull fight, and yet the pit bull is the one being
banned from cities. While the monsters that treated the pit bull with such disrespect sit cozy in
their homes, those mistreated pit bulls are sitting in a kennel waiting to have their life ended and
losing fur due to anxiety. That could be my dog in that kennel. That could be my dog that was
forced to fight and then banned. That could be my dog that has raw spots where there is no fur. It

Phanerozoic Eras
The earth has been around for 4.6 billion years, and over this time 99.9% of all of the species that
have existed on earth have gone extinct. (Barnosky, et al) Palaeontologists characterize mass
extinctions as times in Earth s history when the Earth loses more than three quarters of its species
in a geologically short period of time. This has occurred 5 times over the past 540 million years,
and scientists are now suggesting it is happening a 6th time. We are in the midst of a sixth mass
extinctionthat has the potential to wipe out many species of importance, and humans have a
profound impact on it.
Essentially, there have been 5 mass extinctions during the history of life on earth. (Wake,
Vredenburg) And, the time the earth has existed has been divided up into eons, eras, periods, and
epochs based on the geologic strata of that age. (Impey) There are two eons, the Pre cambrian and
the Phanerozoic. In the Pre cambrian there are 3 eras, the Haydean, Archean, and the Proterozoic.
In the Phanerozoic, there are the Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic Eras. In the Paleozoic, there
are seven periods, the Cambrian, Ordovician, Silurian, Devonian, Mississippian, Pennsylvanian, and
Permian. Then for Mesozoic there are three periods, Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous. In the ... Show

Direct Cinema Essay
Direct Cinema
The term direct cinema was coined by American director Albert Maysles, to describe the style of
documentary that he and his contemporaries were making in the 1960s as a result of a lightweight,
portable 16mm camera and high quality lightweight audio recorders becoming available. The
introduction of these, together with film stock which was sensitive enough to give a good quality
close up monochrome picture under most lighting conditions
(Including hand held lights) led to a revolution in Documentary filmmaking, allowing film crews to
be much more flexible. Gone were the days of bulky, virtually immobile 35mm cameras; now
manufacturers improved their 16mm stock and accepted it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Ideal subjects for documentaries according to the direct cinema ethos were:
1) A person who is interesting;
2) A person who is in an interesting situation which s/he cares deeply about;
3) A subject where a conclusion can be arrived at in a limited time; and
4) A subject where there is easy access to events.
The group believed that the cameraman, the director and the sound recordist were all equal in
status and were all film makers, playing a role in an integrated process. They felt that the filmmaker
s relationship with the subject was personal and one of equality, and that an audience was active in
its engagement with the film. Direct cinema practitioners wished the audience to be presented with
sufficient evidence to enable them to make up their own minds and not be mere passive observers.
... the degree to which the camera changes the situation is mostly due to the nature of the person
filming it... Richard Leacock.
Direct cinema was conceived with TV in mind. In the 60s TV had poor picture quality, the black
and white image being frequently fuzzy with viewers reliant on good quality sound. Image quality
such as this fitted in perfectly with direct cinema s stance on camera framing and editing; anything

A Chance to Sea Life
During my senior year at Baldwin High School, while sitting in my Environmental
Studies class, I learned of my passion for the great outdoors. Whether it was plants, animals, sea
life, or the topic of discussion being taught, it never failed to spark my interest. Reflecting back,
my Environmental Studies class played a vital role in allowing me to overcome my fear of the
ocean. My decision to participate on a field trip which required us to explore the coral reef up close
was a difficult one, and in retrospect, it was the right choice because it changed me; it helped me to
think differently about my capabilities, become more courageous, and made me feel like I achieved
the impossible. Mr. Gard, my Environmental Studies teacher, ... Show more content on

breathing, which seemed to be amplified in sound, as we slipped into the ocean s cold abyss. I
remember telling myself, I can t believe this is happening! This can t be real! Hearing the sound of
the sea water rippling past my ear, as Chad and I approached Coral Garden, confirmed how very
real it was. In the distance, I saw a spectrum of soft, inviting, colors of the secluded coral reef.
Hues of peach, yellow, and rosewood coral looked like little castles built upon the sand in all
shapes and sizes scattered throughout the ocean s floor. As we got closer, I saw various schools
of colored herbivore fishes greet one another as they fed among an antler coral, and the warm
embracing rays of the sun tickled my body as I moved across the water, slightly beneath the
surface of the calming ocean. At that moment, I felt incredibly free, and all of my fears of the
ocean seemed to vanish as if they didn t even exist. I detached myself from Chad after a while
and ventured out on my own, but I always kept my eye out for him to make sure he was close by.

Attack And Die Book Review
In terms of considering why the Southern Confederacy lost the Civil War, Grady McWhiney and
Perry Jamieson have published an interestingly well researched book that offers a fresh, new
interpretation for southern defeat. In Attack and Die, McWhiney and Jamieson submit that the
foremost reason for southern defeat came from an aggressive southern heritage that was steeped in
a culture taken from their ancestors, the Celts. McWhiney and Jamieson offer another, more salient
reason why the Confederacy lost the Civil War. Because Southerners were imprisoned in a culture
that rejected careful calculation and patience, often refusing to learn from their mistakes, the real
reason the Confederates lost was because the offensive warfare that was so foundational to
Confederate wartime strategy, also known as the Celtic charge,... Show more content on

Why I Am A University Library
Until recently, I had no idea that there was a such thing as a Young Adult Librarian. I had
assumed that teaching would be the only job that would allow me to talk about books and share
my love of books with young adults; but then, one day I happened to stumble upon a blog ran by
someone who was sharing her experience as a Young Adult Librarian
and I knew instantly that I had
found what I wanted to do with my life. At this point, I started looking around for ways to be
involved with my university library, just so I could have a taste of what it was like to work in a
library setting. Since it is a university library, I knew that my opportunity to deal with anything
young adult would be pretty much non existent, so I decided to just use the opportunity to learn
whatever I possibly could about librarianship. I spent the semester working with Collection
Management and the Interlibrary Loan office and I learned a little about the inner workings of
those two areas, and a little about what it meant to be a librarian. I still have my heart set on being
a Young Adult Librarian in the end, and I know without a doubt that a career as a librarian is right
for me.
It is important to realize that being a young adult can be difficult, there are so many new
experiences and responsibilities that come with those years and it can be overwhelming for many. I
want to become a Young Adult Librarian so I can not only be in a position to, but also know how
to best help young adults navigate

Mae Tuck Trial Research Paper
Tuck Everlasting Newspaper Woman Breaks Out of Jail On August 13th, a horrific discovery
was made. Mae Tuck was no longer held captive in the Treegap Jail. The constable was

the name of Winifred Foster had been posing as the prisoner. Mae Tuck had been held in custody
for the past few days and was due to hang in the gallows. She was convicted of the murder of
Henry Collins, a bright man with whom we spoke to earlier this week. Furthermore, Mae Tuck
and her family were accused of kidnapping the girl who helped her escape prison, Winifred.
Winifred, however, claims that this accusation is untrue and that she went with the Tuck family on
her own will. Winnie was always such a well behaved young lady, Winifred s mother sniffled, she

All Immigrants Should Become a United States Citizen The United States is built off of
immigration with the influxes of immigrants from all around the world. Immigrants come all the
way from germany to across the pacific ocean. Immigrants have also came here for the reason that
they heard there is better jobs and a more luxurious lifestyle. Most of the immigrants came with
special requirements that only certain jobs will accept. These immigrants are know as economy
boosters. All immigrants and aliens with a legal status should have a more accessible and easier
way to gain citizenship because they already have a temporary allegiance to the United States, they
are working law abiding citizens, and they will boost the economy with the jobs they can get
from becoming a citizen. Next there are many type of forms that are needed to stay in the US. Of
these types of forms are asylum forms, visitors forms, employment forms, freedom of information

Smoking Habits Of The Ohio State University Students Essay
Introduction: According to the Center of Disease Control national survey, smoking habits have
significantly decreased in the United States (CDC). With medical evidence and stricter regulations,
smoking traditional tobacco cigarettes are perceived as a concerning habit. As traditional cigarette
usage declines, the use of electronic cigarettes (e cigarettes) have been a popular alternative,
especially prominent among young adults ages 18 24 years old (CDC). E cigarettes are inhaled in

Archaea. These three taxons exist together to make up the microbial world that we live in. All three
domains can be found freely all over the earth. Prokaryotes and Eukaryotes are usually more

The theory of Endosymbiosis originated in the early 1900s by the Russian botanist, Konstantin
Mereschkowski.1 The Endosymbiont theory states that organelles of eukaryotic cells came from
prokaryotic cells that had been swallowed by them and survived by developing a symbiotic
relationship, two different entities working together to benefit each other, by living inside the
larger cell. Scientists have conducted extensive research and believe that mitochondria,

Causes And Consequences Of Global Warming
The Global Issue
Over the years, the increasing concern over how and where our planet is going to be in the next
couple of decades, has been a significant debate to many. With the steady increase of fossil fuels
being released into our atmosphere, and the high cost that our planet is having to pay in order to
support and to sustain such an exponentially growing population, are we still surprised over the
consequences? Connecting everyone from one side of the world to the other, Global Warmingis a
global problem that includes everybody regardless of where you live in the world or how much
money you possess. It has also become a demanding task that requires the participation of every
human being, since everyone can ultimately still decrease their carbon footprint on the world.
Global warming is the observed overall statistical increase in the average temperature of the Earth s
atmosphere and oceans over the years, (Miller, 2006). Being one of the most important issues
facing the world today, this subject has become life or death for our planet. With the average
temperature increasing dramatically every year, consequences such as the greenhouse effect,
which is the outcome of large amounts of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by human
civilizations, has largely impacted ecosystems ranging all the way from the ocean and marine
life to even the most complex organisms, human beings. Acting as a positive feedback loop, a
lot of the things that we do, whether it s opening up a refrigerator that contain CFC s or even
just getting a plastic bag from a grocery store, are contributing to the weakening of our ozone
layer, and to the steady increase of greenhouse gases being released into the air. Plastic is
probably one of the most detrimental materials that has ever been manufactured. With the world
now using approximately six hundred billion pounds of plastic, plastic has become the familiar
cheap material that we all know and come across multiple times a day. Materials like the plastic
bag, zip lock bag, and plastic water bottles, have all been manufactured to be single use items that
are used and thrown away over and over again. Yet unlike paper litter, when plastic bags get into the
environment, they

Compare And Contrast Corona And Old Spice
Old Spice and Corona are two popular companies in American s culture today, especially around
holidays and summer time. Their ads parallel one another because of appealing features such as
having fun on the beach or sailing on the sea. The messages they both give throughout their
individual ads are about lifestyle. For example, a healthy message of Corona s is to enjoy yourself,
by relaxing and living in the moment. Therefore, many of Corona clients believe their product as a
stress reliever. Old Spice s message is that this fragrance makes you smell and seem manlier by you
using their products such as their hair gel, shampoo, and deodorant. The most interesting thing
about the two brands is their showmanship involving the intense focus on getting each product out
to the consumers.
Old Spice an American advertising campaign developed by ad agency Wieden + Kennedy in 2010
featuring Isaiah Mustafa became popular after the first advertisement, The Man your Man could
smell like, went viral. Which is owned by Procter Gamble Men s grooming products such as
deodorants and antiperspirants, shampoos, body washes and soaps. Initially launched as Early
American Old Spice by William Lightfoot Schultz s soap and toiletries company, Shulton inc., in
1937, it was first targeted to women, with the men s product only being released before Christmas
at the end of that year.
When the #1 imported beer in American wanted to reach and engage with LGBT consumers they
came to MinMark. Their first step was to guide and educate them about the important insight around
this segment and understand how Corona brand fits within their lifestyle. What Corona offers one
kind of a taste, an unparalleled flavor of relaxation and unmistakable color. Corona Extra/light

Analysis Of The Poem Reluctance
In his poem Reluctance , he talks about being in denial and reluctantly carrying on as if the
relationship will fix itself. The narrator uses nature to describe the state of his relationship, both
longing for healing, but unwilling and unsure of how to go about it. The poem reads,
The last lone aster is gone;
The flowers of the witch hazel wither;
The heart is still aching to seek,
But the feet question Whither? (62)
The aster flower represents the absence of love and patience. Witch hazel, meaning pliant or
bendable, signifies that both parties in the relationship are unwilling to be flexible and
understanding of each other s wants, needs, and desires. Their hearts are aching to seek, (62) but
they are in denial of any possible way to make the relationship work. The relationship between the
last lone aster , witch hazel , and the narrator connect the life and death cycle that is viewable in
nature to his relationship. Frost recognizes that knowledge of nature and man s self knowledge
were thus interdependent. (63) By understanding this, he can apply the wisdom to his
relationship. A flower, as well as a relationship, need to be tended to or will begin the wither.
Nevertheless, the life of the flower or relationship is never guaranteed. In love, one must remain
flexible, knowing that even as a flower begins to wither , there may still be a way to bring it back
to life. No matter how much knowledge is acquired throughout a lifetime, wisdom is in knowing
that

A Research Study On Data Analysis
The qualitative research for the study will be driven by using tools such as excel spreadsheets
and data analysis software that provides a quality control and accuracy for the results obtained
from the participants. The researcher will be utilizing two elements of data analysis validity
according to Creswell described by Sampson, J (2012), congruence and accuracy:
Congruence involves providing a rational that shows how the data analysis method for qualitative
research and fits the questions being asked or the hypotheses for qualitative research. The
description of the rationale for using various data analysis methods should help the readers
determine if the analytical techniques are appropriate for the research design and the measures
utilized to represent the variables in the case study.
Accuracy involves providing evidence that the analytical techniques used in the research provide
correct answers to the research question being asked or the hypotheses being posed. This process
establishes the accuracy of data analysis helps the reader to judge whether or not the findings
obtained in the study could be trusted.
The researcher role in this process is an exceptional and significant role in the process of
qualitative research, which is to present a new platform for the dual enrollment program to provide
readiness skills to help students with work life balance when students transition to college while
working. According to Cech, E Wendt, B (2009), the development

Durian fruit. When people ask me how I feel about my Vietnamese culture, the first thing that
comes to mind is durian fruit. Unlike the strawberries or cherries found at Safeway, durian fruit at
first glance does not even look edible. The entire fruit resembles a dirty old football, except that
durian weighs nearly three pounds. One inch spikes and a tough brown outer peel cover the fruit,
giving it an intimidating look. Inside, yellow, kidney shaped pieces line the peel like orange slices.
As a child, I hated durian. I refused to even taste it. Later on, when I was older, my mother bribed

I dreamed of living in a big house like his, with nice new furniture. I wanted my parents to be just
like his caring, loving, and smiling all the time. Richie s parents always seemed to be home.
Never once did Richie come home to an empty house. He always joyfully greeted his mother after
school by tossing his books on the couch, running over to give her a hug, and saying, Mother, dear,
I am home. If I could not have all of this, I decided, I would settle for merely hanging out with the
white, American crowd. After all, Richie Cunningham hung out with white guys at Al s Cafe. To be
like Richie Cunningham, I concluded, was to be American.
Sometimes, after watching Happy Days, I would pull a chair into the cramped little bathroom in
our apartment and look at myself in the cracked mirror above the rusty sink. I always felt sad. In
the cracked reflection, I saw a small face with no blue eyes, no red hair, and no red freckles. I
wondered if my skin would ever fade to the nicer shade of white. I even tried to imitate Richie s
clean, accent free voice and realized that I could not get rid of the Vietnamese influence on my
English. As the years passed, I still lugged that same chair into the same decrepit bathroom,
realizing more and more every year that my dreams of gaining Richie s stature would never come
true.
I looked to my Vietnamese parents to see if they shared any characteristics with Richie Cunningham

In the study of micro biology, there are several kinds of pathogens that can be observed in the
human body. They individually can pose a risk ranging from totally harmless, to life threatening,
depending on the pathogen. There are types of bacteria, virus, and even fungus that can cause a
wide range of problems for the human body. But there is one type of pathogen that is just as
elusive as it is dangerous a pathogen that is rarely discovered in the human body, yet when it is,
doctors are at a loss as to what can be done to stop it. It is called a Prion.
A prion is a protein with a three dimensional shape, as opposed to standard proteins. When a prion

However, there is also an opposing theory that suggests that the disease is caused by a virus, and
that the prion is merely a byproduct of the viral activity. When the disease is present within a cow,
it causes the brain to become riddled with holes that go all the way through the brain. Symptoms
manifest in strange behaviors, such as pathological nervousness and increased aggression.
The disease itself made headlines when it an epidemic hit Europe in the 1980s. The outbreak of
BSE, or mad cow disease , was amplified by the practice of feeding cows the meat products of
their own species. If a mad cow s brain matter was in the feeding cow s food, that cow could
contract the disease. The event became a widespread health hazard after a link between BSE and
Creutzfeldt Jakob disease was established, indicating that humans could also contract the disease by
ingesting the brain matter of cows. The epidemic was dealt with by changing the feeding practices
the European meat industry used to feed their cows.
Creutzfeldt Jakob disease is the variant of spongiform encephalopathy that infects humans. It can be
contracted from eating the contaminated brain matter of cows. Contraction of the disease is
specific to the brain matter consuming only muscle tissue from a steak poses no risk of
contamination. The disease targets the brain, and the patient will suffer

The Glorification Of Death In Homer s The Iliad
From the beginning of times, society has had something to glorify. While the world changes and
new things come up, groups tend to be awed and the topic becomes well known. Some of these
topics are positive while others are more neutral. Compared to times such as the Trojan war, many
of these topics have changed and others, we no longer need or they just don t impact our lives
anymore. The following topics are part of lives from way back in time, to the current time in history.
The biggest thing of the 21st century is technology. Since its introduction people have grown
addicted to their phones, laptops, etc. These devices take part in everyone s life and even have

Death has always been with humans and it ultimately hasn t changed in the sense of how we honor
those that pass. In The Iliad, they would honor the dead by burning the corpse, allowing the one
who passed to move on to the afterlife. Today, we honor our dead by a proper burial. Death
happens all the time and is always saddening. People who draw close to one that passes may
never get on with life, having knowing they will never see them again until their time is up.
Death has been a big deal since day 1 and will never be something we don t glorify. This time in life
is simply a strong impact on all lives. Similar to the deaths in The Iliad, if a well known person is
to pass, the world could be impacted. If the person was not a big factor in many lives, the death
may impact close friends and family.
Not all things that were glorified during the time of The Iliad are glorified now, however, the
topics we do glorify, seem to be slightly similar. As time continues to move on, that of which we
glorify changes constantly. Others topics, such as death, will never change, just the way we
allow those who pass to carry on as they please. The 3 topics above have played a role in society
since the beginning of human life and are not expected to change as long as we populate the

Homeric Seafaring
Surveying the Validity of Homeric Seafaring
Ancient Greeks predominantly lived in on island archipelagos or on the coast of nearby
mainland because mainland Greece is one of Europe s most mountainous countries, which
complicates animal and crop husbandry. Correspondingly, seafaring has always been paramount
in the Aegean, especially for the Greeks, due to ease of transportation, trade networks, and
defensive needs. Mainland Greeks utilized seafaring to bring in necessities cheaper than they
could produce them at home, and they saved time traveling by land, rather than trek the long
way through the mountains. When living on islands, sea travel is a necessity to contact
outsiders and participate in extensive trade. Even Greeks in Homer s epics appear to know the
sea well (Mark 2005, 145). Despite Greek seafaring s prominence, archeological and textual
evidence for seafaring in the Bronze Age and Early Iron Age Aegean is relatively sparse, with a
near lack of physical boat remains. Filling in holes, such as with literary sources, in the timeline
of Aegean seafaring provides a greater understanding of the development of Greek ships, as well
as the cultural implications of the technology invoked. The most extensive textual source of this
era s seafaring is Homer s epics, but they are epic poetry of the eighth or early seventh century BCE
concerning Greece s heroic, mythical past. Homer s Iliad and Odyssey are set in the Bronze Age, yet
include Iron Age elements (Mark 2005,

personnel themselves. They gathered their data via a voluntary online survey which measured the
spouses depression, anxiety, perceived social support, and marital discord. They focused on the
differences between the civilian milspouses and the military milspouses and hypothesized that the
military milspouses would experience more depression, have higher rates of anxiety, experience
higher rates of isolation and marital discord than their civilian counter parts. They found no
significant difference between the groups in depression, anxiety, or perception of social support.
They did discover in the marital discord findings there was a significant statistical differences

results showed that participants with military spouses had more marital discord being that 80% of
the military milspouses and only 17% of the civilian milspouses had frequently considered divorce.

Todays Social And Economic Inequality Is A Matter People
Todays social and economic inequality is a matter people are faced with in their daily lives.
Many Americans are currently unable to reach their full potential due to the lack of financial
stability in the work force, and are incapable of providing stable income for their dependents.
Krugman, like many Americans, believes that change is the only way to help close the ever
growing gap between upper class Americans and those who are middle classor below povertylevel.
In Krugman s essay Confronting Inequality he addresses the need for change, and has several
concepts for how to bring about equality. I agree with several of Krugman s key ideas in his essay

On the contrary, most now wealthy Americans are living off of money that was given to them
from their parents and grandparents. The argument that the upper class citizens are not paying
enough in taxes, although a matter of opinion, should be reconsidered when looking at how
much the rich avoid paying in taxes when using loopholes. Although it may seem as if they pay
a lot in taxes, they are avoiding a large portion of what they would have to pay normally with the
use of the loopholes. Another key idea of Krugman s to solving inequality is to raise the
minimum wage. I agree with Krugman that the minimum wage should be increased, but it
should not go up to the extent that it would cause extreme job losses. If the minimum wage was
raised two or three dollars without the loss of jobs, many middle class Americans could possibly
live a more comfortable lifestyle. The minimum wage should be the minimum amount of money
needed to live off of. So many middle class Americans, and Americans below poverty level
struggle to live off of a minimum wage salary now. Krugman mentions in his essay, the
minimum wage, however, matters mainly to low paid workers (575). Raising minimum wage
even a little would aid some people in paying for their necessities. Some people are forced to stay
in minimum wage jobs for either their entire lives or the majority of their lives because they
cannot move up in that field or do not have a degree. A large number of Americans working

Should Witnesses Be Allowed To Testify For A Jury Essay
There have been more than 2,000 false convictions in the past twenty three years. Witnesses
should not be allowed to testify for a defendant that they know personally. The witness should not
be allowed to know the defendant personally because witnesses are a huge part in court cases and
memories can easily be changed, witnesses can lie, they can t always be credible, and it is hard to
testify against close friends.
Witnesses make a huge impression on a jury and the only way to have a truly honest witness is if the
are a neutral witness and have no stake in the result. One way witnesses are important in court cases
is, Witness testimony can make a deep impression on a jury, which is often exclusively assigned the

Such as, perjury is a crime, because lying under oath can subvert the integrity of a trial and the
legitimacy of the judicial system. However, perjury is defined as knowingly making a false
statement merely misremembering is not a crime. (Engelhardt 2)No one could blatantly lie during
their testimony, or they would be guilty of perjury, but if someone the defendant knew was the
witness, the defendant could put false information into the witness s mind, which would be
classified as misremembering. Another huge part in court cases is the credibility of the witness.
Credibility is believability or trustworthiness. If a witness s testimony and demeanor convinces
you that he/she can be trusted, then that witness is credible.(Goguen 5) Witnesses that are friends
of the defendant do not have much credibility because they are not trustworthy due to the fact
that they would be bias towards their friend. A witness in a criminal case is someone who

Psychodynamically the attachment theory is the reason for the disorder. In one case lack of
parenting during the development years, meaning no recognition or regulation of a child s
emotions, leads to attachment issues. The patient will be avoidant of meaningful relationships but
constantly seeking attention from others. An alternative scenario is the parents overindulging the
child growing up, causing the patient to require being the center of attention while also receiving
constant positive reinforcement. Another instance is if the family places an emphasis on social
status and success throughout the child s life, the constant reinforcement during development
causing an obsession with perfection later in life. From a socio cultural standpoint narcissistic
personality disorder may stem an increasingly narcissistic society. Media, song lyrics, and

A media event is made up of several different components, and those components are very
important so that one can tell the difference between it and a news event. A media event, by
definition, is something that interrupts daily life, it is an event that was preplanned and the
media was invited, meaning the event would still be held even if the media was not there. It is
an event that can restore order and bring normalcy back to life as opposed to a news event which
usually brings disruption to life. A pair of researchers, Daniel Dayan, and Elihu Katz have done
extensive research on the subject of media events. They wrote a paper in which they discuss in
detail what a Media event really is. According to them, there are three categories that a media
event could fall into. The categories are Contests, Conquests, and Coronations the three C s. Each
category has its own regulations, and an event must meet these in order to fit into the category. A
contest is simple, it is as it sounds, a contest or competition of some form, a sporting event such as
football, the Olympic games, races and many other such types of events. Conquests are not as
simple. An excellent example of a conquest is when man landed on the moon for the first time, it is
when a large momentous event happens, perhaps even something so momentous that it can change

Essay On Lower House Of Government
The United States and France are two countries with similar ways of electing the lower house of
government. Both countries are divided into districts with single member representation. However,
the United States uses a majority system, first past the post, while France uses a majority plurality,
two round system. With each system there are separate advantages and disadvantages.
Nonetheless, the first past the post system used in the United States is more efficient, cost
effective, and comprehendible to the average person. The United States of America elects the
lower house of government using simple majority. This system can also be described as a
plurality, or first past the post. The United States is divided into 435 different districts by

Credit History Essay
Credit history is a record of a borrower s responsible repayment of debts. When an American
customer fills
out an application for credit from a bank, credit card company, or a store, there information is
forwarded to a credit bureau. These organizations match the name, address, and other identifying
information on the credit applicant with
information found in the files of the credit bureaus. The gathered records are then used by lenders
to determine an individual s credit worthiness that is determining an individual s ability and track
record of repaying a debt. Lenders will extend credit to individuals who have paid consumer debt
obligations regularly and on time, while those
who missed payments are more likely to be declined.
How are credit scores, also known as FICO scores, calculated?
Payment history makes up 35% of the credit score/FICO score. A record of negative information
can lower a
consumer s credit rating or score negative events such as charge offs, collections, late payments,
repossessions, foreclosures, settlements, bankruptcies and judgments can affect the FICO score
greatly. Newer offenses have a greater affect than older offenses, and many is worse than a few.
Debt and debt history makes up 30% of the FICO score.
Three types of debt, revolving debt, installment debt, and open debt all contribute to an individual
s credit score. Revolving debt is credit card debt, and while home equity lines of credit have
revolving terms, the bulk of debt

Jp Morgan In The 20th Century
In the 20th Century there was many important people who changed the way the America is
today. John Pierpont Morgan once said, If you have to ask how much it costs, you can t afford
it. It is assumed amongst most people that John never had to ask the price of anything because
he had so much money. J.P. Morgan was a significant figure in America s 20th Century because
of his role in saving the economy, funding huge companies and creating a wealthy bank that is
still around today. In this world it is hard to make yourself somebody important if you don t
come from the right background. Well the Morgan family was always wealthy. J.P. was born into
the home of Junius and Juliet Morgan in Connecticut. He grew up with three siblings, two sisters
and one brother (J.P. Morgan). J.P. attended high school in Boston and after graduation went to
Europe. He knew one day he wanted to take his father s business over, so he went abroad to learn
German and French to be able to expand his future business to the global scale. John married a
woman abroad who was bound to die of tuberculosis 4 months later, and then married Frances
Tracy after her... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Morgan has even impacted acts that saved the government many times all because Morgan gave
them the idea. Congress knew that Morgan and his money wouldn t be around forever so they had
to make an act that would make sure they had their own money to secure the Stock Market in the
future if similar situations were to arise. Morgan also bought unsafe rifles from the government,
reconditioned them and sold them back to the government for a huge profit. These rifles were then
used in the Civil War. If Morgan hadn t given the Government safe and technological rifles then the
outcome of the Civil War could ve been different. They might not have been able to defeat the
South with unconditioned and unsafe rifles (Cross, Mary). J.P. Morgan played a major role in
saving 20th century America from many catastrophic

The Threat of Catheter-Related Infections
Clinical problem: Catheter related infections pose a detrimental threat to adult patients in intensive
care units with a central line. Effects of an infection include: an increase in the patients length of
hospital stay, morbidity and mortality rates, and hospital readmission rates.
Objective: To determine if the evidence based practice interventions studied and published can help
to decrease the rate of infection occurring in central lines.
Data sources: The search engine that was used to find three randomized controlled trial articles and
support my PICOT question was PubMed. Key terms that were used to search for them included
intensive care unit infections, chlorhexidine dressings, antiseptic solutions, and prevention methods
for catheter related infections. A clinical guideline for the prevention of intravascular catheter
related infection was retrieved from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).
Results: The clinical guideline from the AHRQ encouraged interventions like the chlorhexidine
impregnated sponge, antiseptic solution, and other precautious measures in order to reduce catheter
related infections. The research completed by Atahan and colleagues (2012), Timsit and colleagues
(2012), and Timsit and colleagues (2009) concluded that the use of 2% chlorhexidine gel tegaderm
dressing, chlorhexidine impregnated sponge, and the antiseptic solution has significantly helped to
reduce infection rates in catheters.
Conclusion: After synthesizing the

A Study Into Their Feeding Preferences
The importance of bees to our agriculture merits a study into their feeding preferences. Bees
pollinate a large proportion of crops and without them there would be a rapid decline in crop
production. The connection between bee feeding preferences and flower pigmentation is examined
using Viola cornuta. Three color variations were used including dark violet, light violet, and white
flowers. Each variation was observed for ten minutes in one minute intervals and this was repeated
in ten different trials starting at 1:00PM at Tallahassee Nursery. The trend resulting from the data
showed strongest preference for the most pigmented dark violet flowers and weakest preference for
the least pigmented white flowers. There are many factors to take... Show more content on

On the spectral range chart for bees a large portion of their visual range is shades of blue and purple
(Riddle, 2016).
The aim of this study is to observe how color affects the feeding preferences of bees in the wild.
The spectral range of the bee suggests that bees will prefer violet colored flowers and more
specifically highly pigmented violet flowers. Due to this it is suspected that bees will prefer to
feed on dark purple colored Violas cornuta over the light purple and white varieties of Viola
cornuta. It could also occur that bees will feed equally across dark purple, light purple, and white
Viola cornuta color groups.
Methods Three pigment levels of Violas cornuta including dark violet, light violet, and white flower
variations were used. In an outdoor nursery setting the plants were studied in five by five rows of
plants and the plots were located next to each other. A total of thirty minutes was spent observing
the plants at the set time of 1:00PM. Each pigment variation was observed for ten minutes in one
minute intervals. The number of bees that land and feed on the particular variant being observed
was recorded. The mean number of bees on each pigment variation after ten observation periods
was calculated. A one tail ANOVA and a post hoc Tukey test was used to analyze the data.
Results The total number of bees present on a color variation (dark violet, light violet, and white)
observed across ten trials is shown in Figure 1. The

In the wild they are a solitary and very territorial species some some aspects of their way of living in the wild have been replicated for use in mink farming (Pedersen et al., 2003) for example breeding stock are housed individually (Meagher et al., 2014) however juveniles may be housed in groups (Alumu et al., 2014), individually (Pedersen et al., 2003) or more likely in male female pairs (HГ¤nninen et al., 2008). Other aspects of their natural habitats have been excluded from their farm habitats, such as access to a swimming area, in the wild mink habitats are close to water since... After birth the juveniles live with their mothers for approximately two months before being weaned (Meagher et al., 2014) then after weaning the juvenile mink are kept in male female pairs until they are approximately six months old (HГ¤nninen et al., 2008). Then some mink are selected to be used as breeding stock and are housed individually while the rest are killed for their pelts (Meagher et al., 2014). Another form of housing that is becoming increasingly more common for juvenile mink is group housing as it decreases the cost of housing the mink by increasing the stocking density (Alumu et al., 2014) and group housed juveniles may be less stressed than pair housed juveniles and they show ... By the clever use of satire and overstatements about the company s work, he achieves the purpose of over glorifying a simple government corrections group while highlighting the need for prison reform. The articles uses plenty of satire and sarcasm to achieve his purpose. The Onion portrays Mr. Park, the owner of Harbor Corrections Group as a modern success story of one who started from nothing. The articles jokes about Parks humble beginnings as he started with a 6 cell prison and barely got enough money to finance his newer big one. Usually, more prisoners means more money that must be put into the system to house them. Parks states that is quite different. Also, hard manual labor is not profitable. This use of satire in glorifying the overcrowding and hard manual labor that prisoners do portrays to the point that The Onion is highlighting. A heavy rock song would be more suitable for the rock playlist that I have. Songs have different characteristics, while also evoking different feelings within the those who listen. This fact hints at the concept of subclasses and super classes. For example, the genre rock and roll could be the super class of punk rock, because Rock and Roll is a fairly broad category of music and punk rock is a more specific type or flavor of rock; thus showing how punk rock is a subclass of Rock and Roll. Punk Rock is a category within a category of music. Rock and Roll demonstrates how a genre can evolve from being relatively specific to generally broad as time progresses and new music is introduced over the years. With the superclass of Rock and Roll at the top of the hierarchy, under it could be other subclasses like hard rock, blues rock, pop rock, psychedelic rock, Christian rock, Latin Rock, southern rock, etc. I would not consider my grouping of music to be mutually exclusive. For instance, I may have one song that is on multiple playlists. The song Summer, by the artist Calvin Harris, is on both my party playlist and my Electronic Dance Music playlist. This particular song qualifies and meets the guidelines for both these playlists that I made. The type of song that I was looking to add in each playlist was achieved. This has occurred 5 times over the past 540 million years, and scientists are now suggesting it is happening a 6th time. Direct Cinema Essay Direct Cinema The term direct cinema was coined by American director Albert Maysles, to describe the style of documentary that he and his contemporaries were making in the 1960s as a result of a lightweight, portable 16mm camera and high quality lightweight audio recorders becoming available. The introduction of these, together with film stock which was sensitive enough to give a good quality close up monochrome picture under most lighting conditions (Including hand held lights) led to a revolution in Documentary filmmaking, allowing film crews to be much more flexible. The group believed that the cameraman, the director and the sound recordist were all equal in status and were all film makers, playing a role in an integrated process. • 22. Causes And Consequences Of Global Warming The Global Issue Over the years, the increasing concern over how and where our planet is going to be in the next couple of decades, has been a significant debate to many. With the steady increase of fossil fuels being released into our atmosphere, and the high cost that our planet is having to pay in order to support and to sustain such an exponentially growing population, are we still surprised over the consequences? Connecting everyone from one side of the world to the other, Global Warmingis a global problem that includes everybody regardless of where you live in the world or how much money you possess. It has also become a demanding task that requires the participation of every human being, since everyone can ultimately still decrease their carbon footprint on the world. Global warming is the observed overall statistical increase in the average temperature of the Earth s atmosphere and oceans over the years, (Miller, 2006). Being one of the most important issues facing the world today, this subject has become life or death for our planet. With the average temperature increasing dramatically every year, consequences such as the greenhouse effect, which is the outcome of large amounts of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by human civilizations, has largely impacted ecosystems ranging all the way from the ocean and marine life to even the most complex organisms, human beings. Acting as a positive feedback loop, a lot of the things that we do, whether it s opening up a refrigerator that contain CFC s or even just getting a plastic bag from a grocery store, are contributing to the weakening of our ozone layer, and to the steady increase of greenhouse gases being released into the air. Plastic is probably one of the most detrimental materials that has ever been manufactured. With the world now using approximately six hundred billion pounds of plastic, plastic has become the familiar cheap material that we all know and come across multiple times a day. • 24. Analysis Of The Poem Reluctance In his poem Reluctance , he talks about being in denial and reluctantly carrying on as if the relationship will fix itself. The narrator uses nature to describe the state of his relationship, both longing for healing, but unwilling and unsure of how to go about it. The poem reads, The last lone aster is gone; The flowers of the witch hazel wither; The heart is still aching to seek, But the feet question Whither? (62) The aster flower represents the absence of love and patience. Witch hazel, meaning pliant or bendable, signifies that both parties in the relationship are unwilling to be flexible and understanding of each other s wants, needs, and desires. Their hearts are aching to seek, (62) but they are in denial of any possible way to make the relationship work. The relationship between the last lone aster , witch hazel , and the narrator connect the life and death cycle that is viewable in nature to his relationship. Frost recognizes that knowledge of nature and man s self knowledge were thus interdependent. (63) By understanding this, he can apply the wisdom to his relationship. A flower, as well as a relationship, need to be tended to or will begin the wither. Nevertheless, the life of the flower or relationship is never guaranteed. In love, one must remain flexible, knowing that even as a flower begins to wither , there may still be a way to bring it back to life. A Research Study On Data Analysis The qualitative research for the study will be driven by using tools such as excel spreadsheets and data analysis software that provides a quality control and accuracy for the results obtained from the participants. The researcher will be utilizing two elements of data analysis validity according to Creswell described by Sampson, J (2012), congruence and accuracy: Congruence involves providing a rational that shows how the data analysis method for qualitative research and fits the questions being asked or the hypotheses for qualitative research. The description of the rationale for using various data analysis methods should help the readers determine if the analytical techniques are appropriate for the research design and the measures utilized to represent the variables in the case study. Accuracy involves providing evidence that the analytical techniques used in the research provide correct answers to the research question being asked or the hypotheses being posed. This process establishes the accuracy of data analysis helps the reader to judge whether or not the findings obtained in the study could be trusted. The researcher role in this process is an exceptional and significant role in the process of qualitative research, which is to present a new platform for the dual enrollment program to provide readiness skills to help students with work life balance when students transition to college while working. When people ask me how I feel about my Vietnamese culture, the first thing that comes to mind is durian fruit. To be like Richie Cunningham, I concluded, was to be American. Symptoms manifest in strange behaviors, such as pathological nervousness and increased aggression. The disease itself made headlines when it an epidemic hit Europe in the 1980s. The outbreak of BSE, or mad cow disease , was amplified by the practice of feeding cows the meat products of their own species. If a mad cow s brain matter was in the feeding cow s food, that cow could contract the disease. Homeric Seafaring Surveying the Validity of Homeric Seafaring Ancient Greeks predominantly lived in on island archipelagos or on the coast of nearby mainland because mainland Greece is one of Europe s most mountainous countries, which complicates animal and crop husbandry. Correspondingly, seafaring has always been paramount in the Aegean, especially for the Greeks, due to ease of transportation, trade networks, and defensive needs. Mainland Greeks utilized seafaring to bring in necessities cheaper than they could produce them at home, and they saved time traveling by land, rather than trek the long way through the mountains. When living on islands, sea travel is a necessity to contact outsiders and participate in extensive trade. Even Greeks in Homer s epics appear to know the sea well (Mark 2005, 145). Despite Greek seafaring s prominence, archeological and textual evidence for seafaring in the Bronze Age and Early Iron Age Aegean is relatively sparse, with a near lack of physical boat remains. Filling in holes, such as with literary sources, in the timeline of Aegean seafaring provides a greater understanding of the development of Greek ships, as well as the cultural implications of the technology invoked. The most extensive textual source of this era s seafaring is Homer s epics, but they are epic poetry of the eighth or early seventh century BCE concerning Greece s heroic, mythical past. The argument that the upper class citizens are not paying enough in taxes, although a matter of opinion, should be reconsidered when looking at how much the rich avoid paying in taxes when using loopholes. Although it may seem as if they pay a lot in taxes, they are avoiding a large portion of what they would have to pay normally with the use of the loopholes. Another key idea of Krugman s to solving inequality is to raise the minimum wage. I agree with Krugman that the minimum wage should be increased, but it should not go up to the extent that it would cause extreme job losses. If the minimum wage was raised two or three dollars without the loss of jobs, many middle class Americans could possibly live a more comfortable lifestyle. • 46. A Study Into Their Feeding Preferences The importance of bees to our agriculture merits a study into their feeding preferences. Bees pollinate a large proportion of crops and without them there would be a rapid decline in crop production. The connection between bee feeding preferences and flower pigmentation is examined using Viola cornuta. Three color variations were used including dark violet, light violet, and white flowers. Each variation was observed for ten minutes in one minute intervals and this was repeated in ten different trials starting at 1:00PM at Tallahassee Nursery. The trend resulting from the data showed strongest preference for the most pigmented dark violet flowers and weakest preference for the least pigmented white flowers. There are many factors to take... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the spectral range chart for bees a large portion of their visual range is shades of blue and purple (Riddle, 2016). The aim of this study is to observe how color affects the feeding preferences of bees in the wild. The spectral range of the bee suggests that bees will prefer violet colored flowers and more specifically highly pigmented violet flowers. Due to this it is suspected that bees will prefer to feed on dark purple colored Violas cornuta over the light purple and white varieties of Viola cornuta. It could also occur that bees will feed equally across dark purple, light purple, and white Viola cornuta color groups. Methods Three pigment levels of Violas cornuta including dark violet, light violet, and white flower variations were used. In an outdoor nursery setting the plants were studied in five by five rows of plants and the plots were located next to each other. A total of thirty minutes was spent observing the plants at the set time of 1:00PM. Each pigment variation was observed for ten minutes in one minute intervals. The number of bees that land and feed on the particular variant being observed was recorded. The mean number of bees on each pigment variation after ten observation periods was calculated. A one tail ANOVA and a post hoc Tukey test was used to analyze the data. Results The total number of bees present on a color variation (dark violet, light violet, and white) observed across ten trials is shown in Figure 1. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
