The Brahmin’s Son Essay example
Analysis: The Brahmin s Son
Despite his solid spiritual upbringing among the Brahmins, Siddhartha still seeks the meaning of life,
and he embarks on a quest to find enlightenment. Brahmins are members of the highest of the four
interdependent groups, called castes, that make up Hindu society. Members of the Brahmin caste were
originally priests with the primary duty of mediating with and praying to gods, and they were
respected for their intellect and their knowledge of the Vedas, the sacred Hindu religious texts. In The
Brahmin s Son, Siddhartha meditates on the syllable Om, which represents perfection and unity. Om
suggests the holy power that animates everything within and around us. This power does not have
form or substance, but it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ritual and formula govern Siddhartha s father s world. Life in this world revolves around sacrifices
and offerings made at certain times and the performance of established duties that everyone, even
Siddhartha s father, must take part in. The father s world, then, is fixed in the moment and regulated
according to certain accepted guidelines. Nothing will change from one day to the next. Siddhartha s
father s request at the end of this chapter that Siddhartha return home to teach his father if he is
successful is an admission that Siddhartha is right, that the gods are only objects of veneration and not
living companions. The people in this world suffer from a way of life that was forced on them, and
their strict rituals and schedules stand between them and the reality they seek.
He lost his Self a thousand times and for days on end he dwelt in non being. But although the paths
took him away from Self, in the end they always led back to it.

Summary: With the Samanas
Siddhartha and Govinda begin wandering with the Samanas. They quickly adopt the ways of their new
teachers, dressing in rags and taking only the barest sustenance necessary to preserve life. Soon,
Siddhartha and Govinda adopt the starved and beaten appearance shared by the other Samanas. The
philosophy behind the Samanas way of life is the belief that true enlightenment comes when

Reflective Essay We all have someone that we attached to at a young age. Whether it be a relative,
family friend or role model. My person was my grandfather. He was one of the most kind hearted
people you could ever meet; he was also one of the funniest. I can be having a terrible day and think
about something he said or did and I can t help but smile to myself. Pawpaw was my mother s father
and my grandmother s husband. They were the All American family. They lived in suburbia, Granny
didn t have to work and they lived life comfortably. My father wasn t so fortunate in his youth. He had

It wasn t the same as every year in the past, it was like there was a dark cloud over the family.
Pawpaw had gone through 2 chemo treatments and a round of radiation. He caught some kind of cold
and because his body was so tired it put him in the hospital over Christmas. After we went to see dad s
side of the family and say our hello s for the year, me and mom left early to go see
Granny and Pawpaw. I remember walking through the cold, dull hallways thinking that this would be
a terrible way to spend Christmas. Instead of being surrounded by family, he was surrounded by
terrible food, bad hospital beds and constant noises from the machines and nurses walking in to check
on him. When we got up there we all talked. Granny complained about how uncomfortable the chairs
were and how she almost got in a fight with the nurse. Only our family would be laughing at
something like that on
Christmas Eve, in the hospital. Pawpaw pulled out a black jewelry box that said Zales on the top of it.
I opened in and I couldn t help the tears that poured down my face. In the box was a white gold cross
that had tiny diamonds embedded in the looping of the cross. I wore it till the chain broke, now it is

Dickinson vs Whitman Essay
Dickinson vs Whitman Two Poets, Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson are probably two of the most
influential people in American poetry. They are regarded as the founders modern American poetry.
Walt Whitman (1819 1892), for the time was breaking new ground with his diverse, energetic verse
with regards to subject matter, form and style whether talking about overlooked objects in nature such
as a single blade of grass or even our own hearing. Emily Dickinson (1830 1886) while living a life of
seclusion, never really leaving her birthplace, was very adventurous internally. She was well read in
English literature, often deeply exploring her own thoughts. While Dickinson and Whitman are

In Crossing Brooklyn Ferry Whitman attempts to transcend time and place, The similitudes of the past
and those of the future . This becomes even more apparent when the second stanza is read, when he
speaks of others, Others will enter the gates of the ferry and cross from shore to shore, Others will
watch the run of the flood tide, Others will see the shipping of Manhattan north and west, and the
heights of Brooklyn to the south and east. It is here that Whitman directly engages his audience and
later he says, Just as you feel when you look on the river and sky, so I felt . He strives to break down
boundaries, abolish differences, and eliminate separateness. Whitman is speaking directly to us, here
and now, generations later. He is also quite clear on what direction he wants us to go as he maps it out
smoothly with his words. Emily Dickinson, however, in contrast does not lay out such a clear path
with her words. She plants them in the audiences mind instead, like a seed, where, when given some
thought it will grow and possibly then be understood. After great pain, a formal feeling comes is a
good example of how she is not quite as clear as Whitman is. She writes The stiff Heart questions was
it he, that bore, And yesterday, or centuries before? The reader can not gain a sense of what exactly
she is talking about. This is the hour of

Douglas Egerton’s He Shall Go Out Free Essay
Douglas Egerton s He Shall Go Out Free In a time when revolution swept both Old World and New, it
should have been no surprise that eighteenth century Charleston would find revolution fermenting
among its slave population. In his book He Shall Go Out Free , Douglas Egerton describes the life of
Denmark Vesey, a freed slave in Charleston, who held a deep and thinly veiled hatred of slavery and
the city s ruling elite, and was best known for leading a failed attempt at revolt which cost his life.
However, Egerton argues one must look beyond the span of Vesey s lifetime to best understand his
impact upon the history of the city.

CONSPIRACY
Denmark Vesey s opposition to slavery was by no means veiled, and his inability to buy his family s
freedom only deepened his resentment (77). He often aired his views in the waterfront taverns that
were frequented by lower class whites and freed slaves (100). An avid reader, he eagerly read anti
slavery tracts, and followed newspaper accounts of the slave revolution in Saint Domingue (100).
By Christmas of 1821, Vesey decided he had little to lose by challenging the city s elite more directly.
At the age of fifty four, he had lived well beyond average life expectancy for blacks, and knew his
time was running short (126). He told his close friend Rolla, a slave of Governor Bennett, that they
would have to rise up and fight the whites (131).
Vesey began to build a network of supporters who would help recruit and organize other slaves for his
planned revolt. However, he knew his rebels could not hold the city or force recognition of their
freedom. Instead, he planned for them to rise up at night, killing many whites while they slept. In the
ensuing chaos, they would seize ships to sail to Haiti, where slaves had revolted and established a free
nation (132).
George Wilson, a blacksmith, had overheard discussions of the plot, but refused to go along. On June

Comparisons of Different Famous Diets
Jenny Craig Diet: Characteristics The main premise of the Jenny Craig diet is that participants eat
prepackaged, premeasured, and processed meals which are delivered to the participant s home.
Counselors are available in order to assist with long term goals and teach participants to avoid
emotional eating. There is some flexibility in allowing participants to eat out, or to enjoy the
occasional snack as well ( health and wellness, 2014).
Pros/advantages and Cons/disadvantages

the Jenny Craig diet is safe, nutritionally balanced, and convenient. Weight loss can be steady and
easily obtained, and therefore may lower the participants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pros/advantages and Cons/disadvantages
An advantage to the Nutrisystem diet would be steady weight loss and a convenient way to get oneself
on track. In addition, no food is restricted in and of itself. Other foods besides the package system are
available for the participant to enjoy. There are specific concepts for each dieter based on their other
types of conditions. Different tracks for older adults and diabetics are made available ( health and
wellness, 2014).
Disadvantages to this diet, as well as diets like Jenny Craig, would be first and foremost the cost that
is needed in order to purchase the food. In addition with the Nutrisystem diet, dining out is not a part
of the plan. The diet is restricted in the fact that your meals are prepared and delivered but there is not
an avenue for creativity in preparing meals, this may make things difficult for a family.
Recommendations
I would only recommend Nutrisystem to a person who needed to lose a considerable amount of
weight, and only if they were willing to spend the money for the guaranteed calorie restriction. Those
who are willing to make a large commitment in the form of money may benefit from having the work
of food prep done for them. However, this is not a long term solution. Nutrisystem does claim that
they have made enhancements in their plan and are continually researching in order to make it healthy
and safe for participants ( health and wellness, 2014).

Employees Personal Values
Introduction
Employee Personal Value
Employee personal value or Employee value proposition comprises much more than salaries and
benefits, it reflects the entire employment experience at a company including benefits, career
development opportunities, rewards, culture, and management style. The employee personal values
should align with the company s brand and be reflected consistently to employees. Otherwise,
employees may grow cynical about the company and ultimately become less productive or leave the
organization entirely. In addition to relevant skills, employers seek employees who have the personal
values, characteristics, and personality traits that spell success. Minchington (2005) defines an

The Importance Of Perseverance In Rita Hayworth And The...
Perseverance, the motivation of doing something that consists of difficult objectives or something can
set back the main course of achieving a task. A novella about two convicted inmates and how one
gutsy inmate named Andy Dufresne escapes the Shawshank Prison. His buddy Red had run alongside
his decision and helped him through it, even though Red was the only one in the prison to truthfully
admit that Andy did not do it. Andy did not kill his wife and her lover. Elwood Blatch had committed
the crime. Elwood was a former cellmate of Tommy Williams in another prison, and Elwood would
like to brag about such crimes he committed and Tommy was present at the time of his confession. So
Tommy then later informed Andy about it in the Shawshank State Prison. In Rita Hayworth and the
Shawshank Redemption wrote by Stephen King , the main focus is perseverance. Perseverance is
present in this novella, and present in most of the characters. Their motivation and determination
thrown towards a goal that might be far fetched, but in time can be attained. The two characters that
had maintained perseverance throughout the novella were, Andy Dufresne and Red. Then I will put in
my own take on perseverance.
Andy Dufresne, his time at the Shawshank prison had most indefinitely affected all the inmates and
guards in the prison, Andy was sent to prison for the murder of his wife, Linda, and her lover, Glenn
Quentin. Although there is a twist to this scenario, despite the fact that Dufresne

The Class Sequence Could Be Improved
The class sequence could be improved. Some of the classes seemed, either out of sequence or the
information provided would have been better understood if presented first in another class. I believe
Ofc. Marlin tried to sequence these better but had difficulty with coordinating the schedules of the
instructors. When possible, give the training a higher priority and schedule early enough to minimize
last minute changes. This would benefit the training, the students, and Ofc. Marlin. Toward the end of
the academy, it seemed Ofc. Marlin was struggling to complete all class requirements before
graduation. The Personal Safety and Defense, as with some of the other topics, was apportioned

I am greatly appreciative of both sections this practical training. It was good to have the General
Order, Special Order, and other regulatory organization presented early. The general concept of state
laws, arrests, and violations was early but it would have been helpful to have had the legal class
around the same time. When presented, the legal class was very lawyerly ; meaning somewhat dry and
rote. A little more discussion might have been helpful. Public Speaking was a good class. It adequately
presented the necessary information and allowed us an opportunity to practice in class. Detective
Shirley and Office Yates did a good team job in the presentation. Interpersonal Communication was
also a good class. Ofc. Jones did a good job on the presentation. I m not sure why he presented this
information twice. Verbal Judo was a very important class and Detective Richardson presented it well.
This information was also adequately covered in the test/evaluations. As in Personal Safety and
Defense, several sessions covered report writing. This is good because it allowed for some of the
lessons to sink in before adding more information. Sgt Patrick presented the topic very well. The
computer skills training were very minimal. I suggest a significant bit of more time be included to
cover some of the other programs we will encounter. KYOPS and collision investigation and reporting

A Research Study On The Snowshoe Hare
The snowshoe hare is an animal that seems to have a high predation rate and has struggled at times to
avoid predators and different types of climate. According to Dashiell Feierabend, Knut Kielland,
(2015) the survival and predation of these snowshoe hares was researched for quite some time, yet no
true leads have been discovered such as hare s vulnerability, which leaves the question of what
predators and climates can influence their vegetation and coverage. (Feierabend Kielland, 2015).
These beautiful creatures are preyed on by a multitude of different animals and also wander into an
array of climates. Sunny, hot, snowy, cold, windy, chances are a snowshoe hare has experienced it all.

(Feierabend Kielland, 2015). In this case, predation was the cause of death by 86%. Feierabend and
Kielland state that hares were frequently killed by goshawks within the successional forest, lynx in the
black spruce forest, and other predators. These are just some of the problems that the hares face day to
day. Hares change color depending on their climate, as well. For example, Sarah Zielinski stated that
since most animals who change color do not have control over that, they may be ill dressed and
underdressed for certain weather conditions. (Zielinksi, 2016). Zielinski stated that there was not
much evidence to back up a claim scientist made that a species could possibly be wiped out due to
weather changes and coat changes for the hares. (Zielinski, 2016). Marketa Zimova of NCSU located
in Raleigh and some other colleagues tracked around 186 snowshoe hares over the span of three years,
in two locations in Montana. The data found the result of coat color and landscape color which is
significant in both cases. The transition can take some time, and this could be deadly for the snowshoe
hare. Zielinski noted that in a study, a snowshoe hare who matched their background had a survival
rate of about 96% from week to week. Then, down to 89% when both were completely mix matched.
While that did not cause issues then, it could in the near future. (Zielinski, 2016).

Justification of Silas s Actions
In the book, The Da Vinci Code, Silas quest to find the Holy Grail first is justified because of his
goals, his past, and his faith. Firstly, he regrets the deeds he has done trying to find the grail, such as
killing the Priory leaders, but his goal to save the Church and bring the world to God, in his mind,
outweighs the wrongs he has done. He believes the teachings of Jesus, .. the message Silas had been

mortals, The Tale of Cupid and Psyche was written by Lucius Apuleius and is located in his book The

Rhetorical Analysis In her essay The Importance of Work, from The Feminine Mystique published in

Friedan broke new ground by seeking the idea of women discovering personal fulfillment away from
their original roles. She ponders on the idea of the Feminine Mystique as the cause for the majority of
women during that time period to feel confined by their occupations around the house, restricting
them from discovering who they are as women. Friedan s novel is well known for creating a different

Employment is a relationship between an employers and employees. This relationship is extremely
important, as it becomes a part of our daily life. Aside of being a professional relationship, in many

Culture influences every aspect of a company s strategy, whether at the corporate level or the product/

without first understanding the various cultural dynamics at play.

The mission statements of U.S. companies, for example, tend to be strong statements of identity and

Marx Point Of View On Class Conflict
According to Marx, this division between classes widens the condition of exploiting workers that
deteriorate so destructively that leads to collapse the social structure: the class struggle is changed into
proletarian revolution. The success of workers reduces basis of class division in property from public
ownership for production means (Archer, 1982, pp. 455 483). On the basis of this, the classes thus
wiped off, the classless society will arise and as the political power protects bourgeoisie from workers
is pointless, and the state and political authority will decline away (Merton, 1968, pp 56 78).
Generally there are six factors in Marx s point of view over class conflict, these includes:
Classes are the authority relationship that is based on property ownership

On the other hand Marx s not once expressed the issue of structure and agency under these terms.
Marx is supposed to have made scientific discovery in forming the concept of productive forces,
superstructure relations of production, ideologies, social formation (Wright Perrone, 1977, 32 55). It is
nearly impossible to deny that Marx established new perception for analysing the society s nature,
however such ideas are not appropriate with Marx s humanism. Whereas Marx never rejected the
human nature idea, but he did specify that it was both historically and socially conditioned (Saunders,
2006). Marx interpretation of humanist is an attempt to re establish human agent into conception of
materialist history and consequently support it against many types of determinism and reductionism.

Essay on Trends in the Hospitality Indus
Trends in the Hospitality Industry
Nowadays trends are everywhere. You can find them in every industry and they play a huge role. The
retro trend in clothing, the SUV trend in the car industry, but nowhere else are trends more important
than in the hospitality industry. But what exactly is a trend? A trend describes usually the time
measurable course of a development into a certain quantitative and/or qualitative direction. In
economics, trends are changes of the behavior of the society. In marketing research this describes the
change and development of the consumerism and consumption behavior.

the people try to get the best price for a room and most hotels have company rates which are below the

Peter Hadreas Essay
For the first concert report, I attended one of the listening hours in the Concert Hall. The one I went to
was on how Music Recapitulates the Genesis of Language . I was very intrigued by how Peter
Hadreas demonstrated the correlation between the development of language and the structure of
musical pieces. As I have taken psychology and child development classes before, I was able to recall
a lot of the approaches to the development of speech. This background knowledge allowed me to
better understand the link between the two concepts.

Similarly, the tempo was constantly changing between fast and slow, much like the timbre. The keys
that Hadreas played were a mix between major and minor keys. This was to represent the back and
forth of argument and dialogue, mentioned in stage 4, between traditional and exotic scales . The
dynamic of the piece seems like it was forte, especially since it resembles a dispute. During these parts
that Hadreas described as call and response , the timbre of the piece sound like it was staccato,
however, there were parts in the middle, where it was a bit calm that seems like it would be legato,
only to have the argument between the scales break out again and the timbre return to being

The Implications Of Overwhelming Tourism In Venice
The Implications of Overwhelming Tourism in Venice Venice of old was a thriving center of
commerce, but today it has been overrun by tourists. For the Venetians this is a crisis that they are
trying to stop before their way of life is completely lost. Many residents have moved away from the
city due to effects caused by the high tourist traffic. A major part of the identity of Venice lies within
its inhabitants way of life, and the tourists threaten to take that away from them. One of the most
prominent issues of the tourism in Venice is the unsightly cruise ships that obstruct many of their
landmarks. By stopping the large scale tourism that is brought in by the cruise ships in Venice, we may
be able to potentially save Venice and stop other cities from going through a similar crisis.
In this article Horowitz talks about how tourism effects Venice, and how many of its inhabitants view
it. For many, the tourists brought by cruise ships are unwelcomed, but the revenue the tourists bring is
needed by the city. The large tourist traffic often obstructs the regular activity of Venice which is an
essential part of its identity. The enormous cruise ships, which are often big enough to eclipse
structures such as St. Mark s Square, are also another major problem that the Venetians have with the
amount of tourism their home receives. The large scale tourism has taken a drastic toll upon the city s
population as well. The population of Venice has fallen from around

criticism and backlash. The first time I saw this I was on Instagram. I couldn t believe Dove would do
that knowing the society which we live in. People are fighting for justice and equality for the black. It

whole video. People had taken only one specific part of the ad. No one included the part when the

Editing manipulates the audience s point of view of the story. Different cuts can delineate the plot and
the meaning of the images distinctively. Battleship Potemkin, directed by Sergei Eisenstein was the
example of how editing created emotions to the viewers in the theatre. The editing made the sequence

down the stairs. Along with some long shots of the entire crowd deserting, shows how terrifying the
firearms have impacted the innocent people on the stairs. Different angles of the images were cut
alternatively to increase the tension of how communist authorities had been constraining the people
from their rights to gather around. Additionally, Eisenstein included some close up shots to give the
image of people dying and kids sitting in the middle of the dead people. The scene then jump cuts to

Similarities Between Us And Vietnam
Although US and Vietnam have many similarities, they also have greater differences. First of it, In
US, people use cars as the main transportation method. They prefer cars than other transportation
because of several reasons. The climate in US is not suitable for driving motorbikes. Some states have
cold climate, for example, Alaska and North Dakota. As a matter of fact, Alaska has an average
daytime summer temperatures range from approximately 55 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit, and North
Dakota has an average of 57 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit. In addition, in Alaska, the average winter
temperatures range from 5 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit and from 23 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit in North
Dakota. So it is not suitable to drive motorbikes in US. Secondly, roads system in US is made for car
transportation, because it doesn t have lanes for motorbikes. Typically, a highway in US have 10 lanes.
On the other hand, Vietnamese people use motorbike as the main transportation method. It is easy to
understand because streets in Vietnam are mostly small and tight, so cars cannot drive into it.
Furthermore, in peak hours, travelling by motorbikes will save much time because they can wriggle
through every spaces possible. Additionally, using cars in Vietnam is increasing the amount of carbon
dioxide that is expelled to the environment because Vietnam doesn t have a modern technology to
create an eco friendly car which produces less gas to the environment. In conclusion, Vietnamese

Industrial Farm Animal Welfare
Industrial farm animal welfare is horrendous, only two federal laws protect these animals which
proves this true. Firstly, the law regarding trucking animals states that every 28 hours they are
unloaded from the truck for rest, water and food. Trucks aren t required to be cleaned during this rest
period. Meaning the livestock has to stand in feces during travel. Secondly, livestock be quickly
rendered insensible to pain before being slaughtered. These laws aren t actively enforced leading to
increased animal cruelty. In addition to the surprising lack of empathy for these animals, poultry is
exempt from both laws.

Hens also peck each other because of insufficient space. To avoid injury in this form the chickens
beaks are cut off soon after they are born. After 18 24 months egg production slows and those hens are

from their cages. In the process, many of the hens suffer broken wings and legs. They are then loaded
into transport crates and stacked onto large flatbed trucks. During transport, the unfamiliar sights,
smells, sounds and movements cause severe stress. Prior to these animals being killed they are kept in

A Day With Chemical Compounds
After a cup of bold Italian espresso and in the later hours of Sunday morning, our neighbor came from
across the street and tentatively knocked on our door. Without saying good morning she launched in, I
was upstairs in my son s room, putting away his laundry at about 9:15 when I heard a crash. I looked
out the window and noticed something going in your kitchen. I was worried. Is everyone all right?
Still foggy, I invited her in and began to recount the previous day s chaotic series of events. The
incident took place in our Townhome on the evening of Saturday, September 12. I was settled on the
couch, feeling overwhelmed with the immensity of the homework that I needed to complete. As my

I could hear the slamming as the cupboards bounced shut and I could feel the fridge rattle as it shook
from its hinges. Indecisive about what to eat, my sister suggested that they make some tea. I heard her
friends ask her what kind of tea we had. They were having a conversation about the various teas they
had tried and the benefits of agave versus honey. Fatigued girls started to get balmy and began to
move more rapidly about the kitchen, dancing and flinging their arms around.
Without warning, I heard the sound of something shattering and looked up to see my sister with a
sheepish grin on her face. Her friends startled for a moment and froze with blank expressions. And
then realizing the damage that had been done, they scurried out of the kitchen. My sister had hurled
her arm in the direction of the coffee maker, setting it off balance. She managed to catch the coffee
maker, but not the sugar jar. The sugar jar met the old oak floor with immense force and a thunderous
crack. The beloved china sugar jar that belonged to my mother lay in pieces all over the floor. Hearing
the sound, my mother yelled from upstairs, What did you break? Fearing my mother s wrath, my sister
frantically began to pick up the larger pieces in order to throw them out but failed to remember to put
shoes on to protect her feet. Scrambling, flustered, my sister s foot came down hard on a fragment of
the jar. Realizing what had happened, she hobbled silently to the bathroom leaving a

Free College Essays-The Notorious Metallica
The Notorious Metallica The band Metallica was officially formed on the 15th of October in 1981 by
James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich (Metworld). Metallica s genre is mainly heavy metal and thrash metal.
The band came straight from Los Angeles California. The current members include James Hetfield,
Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, Robert Trujillo. Older members included Dave Mustaine (founder of
Megadeth), Cliff Burton, Jason Newsted, Rob McGovney, and Lloyd Grant. All but three of the
members were born in California (Metworld). The other three were from Jamaica (Grant), Michigan
(Newsted), and Denmark (Ulrich). By far my all time favorite member of the band has to be their
guitarist James Hetfield. He is their lead guitarist, and I find his skills on the guitar to be amazing.
Hetfield started out playing piano when he was about nine, and did not pick up a guitar until his pre
teen years. This band in general is one of a group called the Big Four which includes Metallica,

group in the way they play and how they are perceived by other groups. Most rock bands these days
will cite Metallica as one of their greatest influences into music and so many have done so to the point
that Metallica was named the most influential rock band of all time. Kirk has also been listed in the

  • 2. The Brahmin’s Son Essay example Analysis: The Brahmin s Son Despite his solid spiritual upbringing among the Brahmins, Siddhartha still seeks the meaning of life, and he embarks on a quest to find enlightenment. Brahmins are members of the highest of the four interdependent groups, called castes, that make up Hindu society. Members of the Brahmin caste were originally priests with the primary duty of mediating with and praying to gods, and they were respected for their intellect and their knowledge of the Vedas, the sacred Hindu religious texts. In The Brahmin s Son, Siddhartha meditates on the syllable Om, which represents perfection and unity. Om suggests the holy power that animates everything within and around us. This power does not have form or substance, but it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ritual and formula govern Siddhartha s father s world. Life in this world revolves around sacrifices and offerings made at certain times and the performance of established duties that everyone, even Siddhartha s father, must take part in. The father s world, then, is fixed in the moment and regulated according to certain accepted guidelines. Nothing will change from one day to the next. Siddhartha s father s request at the end of this chapter that Siddhartha return home to teach his father if he is successful is an admission that Siddhartha is right, that the gods are only objects of veneration and not living companions. The people in this world suffer from a way of life that was forced on them, and their strict rituals and schedules stand between them and the reality they seek. He lost his Self a thousand times and for days on end he dwelt in non being. But although the paths took him away from Self, in the end they always led back to it. (See Important Quotations Explained) Summary: With the Samanas Siddhartha and Govinda begin wandering with the Samanas. They quickly adopt the ways of their new teachers, dressing in rags and taking only the barest sustenance necessary to preserve life. Soon, Siddhartha and Govinda adopt the starved and beaten appearance shared by the other Samanas. The philosophy behind the Samanas way of life is the belief that true enlightenment comes when ... • 3. Pappaw Reflective Essay We all have someone that we attached to at a young age. Whether it be a relative, family friend or role model. My person was my grandfather. He was one of the most kind hearted people you could ever meet; he was also one of the funniest. I can be having a terrible day and think about something he said or did and I can t help but smile to myself. Pawpaw was my mother s father and my grandmother s husband. They were the All American family. They lived in suburbia, Granny didn t have to work and they lived life comfortably. My father wasn t so fortunate in his youth. He had an extremely dysfunctional family and childhood. No one ever saw my mom and dads marriage working out but somehow they defied the odds and are still happily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It wasn t the same as every year in the past, it was like there was a dark cloud over the family. Pawpaw had gone through 2 chemo treatments and a round of radiation. He caught some kind of cold and because his body was so tired it put him in the hospital over Christmas. After we went to see dad s side of the family and say our hello s for the year, me and mom left early to go see Granny and Pawpaw. I remember walking through the cold, dull hallways thinking that this would be a terrible way to spend Christmas. Instead of being surrounded by family, he was surrounded by terrible food, bad hospital beds and constant noises from the machines and nurses walking in to check on him. When we got up there we all talked. Granny complained about how uncomfortable the chairs were and how she almost got in a fight with the nurse. Only our family would be laughing at something like that on Christmas Eve, in the hospital. Pawpaw pulled out a black jewelry box that said Zales on the top of it. I opened in and I couldn t help the tears that poured down my face. In the box was a white gold cross that had tiny diamonds embedded in the looping of the cross. I wore it till the chain broke, now it is hanging on the desk in my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Dickinson vs Whitman Essay Dickinson vs Whitman Two Poets, Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson are probably two of the most influential people in American poetry. They are regarded as the founders modern American poetry. Walt Whitman (1819 1892), for the time was breaking new ground with his diverse, energetic verse with regards to subject matter, form and style whether talking about overlooked objects in nature such as a single blade of grass or even our own hearing. Emily Dickinson (1830 1886) while living a life of seclusion, never really leaving her birthplace, was very adventurous internally. She was well read in English literature, often deeply exploring her own thoughts. While Dickinson and Whitman are referred to as the founders of modern American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Crossing Brooklyn Ferry Whitman attempts to transcend time and place, The similitudes of the past and those of the future . This becomes even more apparent when the second stanza is read, when he speaks of others, Others will enter the gates of the ferry and cross from shore to shore, Others will watch the run of the flood tide, Others will see the shipping of Manhattan north and west, and the heights of Brooklyn to the south and east. It is here that Whitman directly engages his audience and later he says, Just as you feel when you look on the river and sky, so I felt . He strives to break down boundaries, abolish differences, and eliminate separateness. Whitman is speaking directly to us, here and now, generations later. He is also quite clear on what direction he wants us to go as he maps it out smoothly with his words. Emily Dickinson, however, in contrast does not lay out such a clear path with her words. She plants them in the audiences mind instead, like a seed, where, when given some thought it will grow and possibly then be understood. After great pain, a formal feeling comes is a good example of how she is not quite as clear as Whitman is. She writes The stiff Heart questions was it he, that bore, And yesterday, or centuries before? The reader can not gain a sense of what exactly she is talking about. This is the hour of ... • 6. Douglas Egerton’s He Shall Go Out Free Essay Douglas Egerton s He Shall Go Out Free In a time when revolution swept both Old World and New, it should have been no surprise that eighteenth century Charleston would find revolution fermenting among its slave population. In his book He Shall Go Out Free , Douglas Egerton describes the life of Denmark Vesey, a freed slave in Charleston, who held a deep and thinly veiled hatred of slavery and the city s ruling elite, and was best known for leading a failed attempt at revolt which cost his life. However, Egerton argues one must look beyond the span of Vesey s lifetime to best understand his impact upon the history of the city. CONSPIRACY Denmark Vesey s opposition to slavery was by no means veiled, and his inability to buy his family s freedom only deepened his resentment (77). He often aired his views in the waterfront taverns that were frequented by lower class whites and freed slaves (100). An avid reader, he eagerly read anti slavery tracts, and followed newspaper accounts of the slave revolution in Saint Domingue (100). By Christmas of 1821, Vesey decided he had little to lose by challenging the city s elite more directly. At the age of fifty four, he had lived well beyond average life expectancy for blacks, and knew his time was running short (126). He told his close friend Rolla, a slave of Governor Bennett, that they would have to rise up and fight the whites (131). Vesey began to build a network of supporters who would help recruit and organize other slaves for his planned revolt. However, he knew his rebels could not hold the city or force recognition of their freedom. Instead, he planned for them to rise up at night, killing many whites while they slept. In the ensuing chaos, they would seize ships to sail to Haiti, where slaves had revolted and established a free nation (132). George Wilson, a blacksmith, had overheard discussions of the plot, but refused to go along. On June 14, as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pros/advantages and Cons/disadvantages An advantage to the Nutrisystem diet would be steady weight loss and a convenient way to get oneself on track. In addition, no food is restricted in and of itself. Other foods besides the package system are available for the participant to enjoy. There are specific concepts for each dieter based on their other types of conditions. Different tracks for older adults and diabetics are made available ( health and wellness, 2014). Disadvantages to this diet, as well as diets like Jenny Craig, would be first and foremost the cost that is needed in order to purchase the food. In addition with the Nutrisystem diet, dining out is not a part of the plan. The diet is restricted in the fact that your meals are prepared and delivered but there is not an avenue for creativity in preparing meals, this may make things difficult for a family. Recommendations I would only recommend Nutrisystem to a person who needed to lose a considerable amount of weight, and only if they were willing to spend the money for the guaranteed calorie restriction. Those who are willing to make a large commitment in the form of money may benefit from having the work of food prep done for them. However, this is not a long term solution. Nutrisystem does claim that they have made enhancements in their plan and are continually researching in order to make it healthy and safe for participants ( health and wellness, 2014). Perseverance, the motivation of doing something that consists of difficult objectives or something can set back the main course of achieving a task. A novella about two convicted inmates and how one gutsy inmate named Andy Dufresne escapes the Shawshank Prison. His buddy Red had run alongside his decision and helped him through it, even though Red was the only one in the prison to truthfully admit that Andy did not do it. Andy did not kill his wife and her lover. Elwood Blatch had committed the crime. Elwood was a former cellmate of Tommy Williams in another prison, and Elwood would like to brag about such crimes he committed and Tommy was present at the time of his confession. So Tommy then later informed Andy about it in the Shawshank State Prison. In Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption wrote by Stephen King , the main focus is perseverance. Perseverance is present in this novella, and present in most of the characters. Their motivation and determination thrown towards a goal that might be far fetched, but in time can be attained. The two characters that had maintained perseverance throughout the novella were, Andy Dufresne and Red. Then I will put in my own take on perseverance. Andy Dufresne, his time at the Shawshank prison had most indefinitely affected all the inmates and guards in the prison, Andy was sent to prison for the murder of his wife, Linda, and her lover, Glenn Quentin. Some of the classes seemed, either out of sequence or the information provided would have been better understood if presented first in another class. I believe Ofc. When possible, give the training a higher priority and schedule early enough to minimize last minute changes. This would benefit the training, the students, and Ofc. Marlin. I am greatly appreciative of both sections this practical training. It was good to have the General Order, Special Order, and other regulatory organization presented early. The general concept of state laws, arrests, and violations was early but it would have been helpful to have had the legal class around the same time. When presented, the legal class was very lawyerly ; meaning somewhat dry and rote. A little more discussion might have been helpful. Public Speaking was a good class. It adequately presented the necessary information and allowed us an opportunity to practice in class. Detective Shirley and Office Yates did a good team job in the presentation. Interpersonal Communication was also a good class. Ofc. Jones did a good job on the presentation. I m not sure why he presented this information twice. Verbal Judo was a very important class and Detective Richardson presented it well. This information was also adequately covered in the test/evaluations. As in Personal Safety and Defense, several sessions covered report writing. This is good because it allowed for some of the lessons to sink in before adding more information. According to Dashiell Feierabend, Knut Kielland, (2015) the survival and predation of these snowshoe hares was researched for quite some time, yet no true leads have been discovered such as hare s vulnerability, which leaves the question of what predators and climates can influence their vegetation and coverage. Feierabend and Kielland state that hares were frequently killed by goshawks within the successional forest, lynx in the black spruce forest, and other predators. These are just some of the problems that the hares face day to day. Hares change color depending on their climate, as well. For example, Sarah Zielinski stated that since most animals who change color do not have control over that, they may be ill dressed and underdressed for certain weather conditions. (Zielinksi, 2016). Zielinski stated that there was not much evidence to back up a claim scientist made that a species could possibly be wiped out due to weather changes and coat changes for the hares. (Zielinski, 2016). Marketa Zimova of NCSU located in Raleigh and some other colleagues tracked around 186 snowshoe hares over the span of three years, in two locations in Montana. The data found the result of coat color and landscape color which is significant in both cases. The transition can take some time, and this could be deadly for the snowshoe hare. Zielinski noted that in a study, a snowshoe hare who matched their background had a survival rate of about 96% from week to week. Then, down to 89% when both were completely mix matched. I was very intrigued by how Peter Hadreas demonstrated the correlation between the development of language and the structure of musical pieces. As I have taken psychology and child development classes before, I was able to recall a lot of the approaches to the development of speech. This background knowledge allowed me to better understand the link between the two concepts. Hadreas started out by explaining the different stages in which a child develops language. He breaks it up into five different stages, to which he then connects to music. He explains stage 1 as children understands of syntax, which is their accumulation of simple words and phrases, relating it to the basic chords of music. Stage 2 is where children between to place these words and phrases together. Similarly, chords in music can be strung together to create a melody. The dynamic of the piece seems like it was forte, especially since it resembles a dispute. During these parts that Hadreas described as call and response , the timbre of the piece sound like it was staccato, however, there were parts in the middle, where it was a bit calm that seems like it would be legato, only to have the argument between the scales break out again and the timbre return to being ...
