Good Will Hunting and Bell Hooks Keeping Close to Home Essay
Going off to college is probably one of the best things a person can do to further their education. The
promise of a degree from a university seems achievable but is shadowed with the many challenges
that come with a higher edification. Often many college students find themselves bothered by these
obstacles which can determine whether the college student succeeds or not. There are many endeavors
in college but it depends on how the student reacts to these situations.
This synthesis will examine the motion picture Good Will Hunting and an essay by an author Bell
Hooks entitled Keeping Close to Home: Class and Education. Both of these accounts tell of a struggle
that the protagonist character in the story had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout these sessions the promise of a higher education or success is shadowed by the aggression
that Will Hunting has to over come. Very defensive and isolated Will Hunting is befriended very
slowly by Sean McGuire to open up his emotional problem and to let them go. Will Hunting s inability
to trust, love and communicate handicaps him to do well in life with careers and relationships.
In the essay entitled Keeping Close to Home: Class and Education, the author Bell Hooks tells of her
struggles when she goes off to the prestigious college Stanford University at the age of 18. Coming
from a working low class economic background hooks deals with ridicule from her family and the
difficulties of adjusting from a lower class to a higher class setting at Stanford. The dilemma that
Hooks face with her family is; she states, My parents had not been delighted that I had been accepted
and adamantly opposed my going so far from home (p. 161). Reason for this adamant feeling was that
Hooks was brought up during a period when women didn t really leave the house to go to school. It
was unheard of to leave a small town in the south and go to a big college out in the west. Especially if
Hooks was going to be by her self her parents did not like the idea that she would be far away from

Essay on Incorporating 21st Century Technology into the...
Abstract Technology has become a hot item for school district to implement into the classroom. The
need for this technology comes from an every changing world and because of the way 21st century
students learn. Web 2.0 technology must be used and integrated into the classroom. However, many
problems occur when trying to integrate technology. Question on whether student achievement is
increased, failures of school districts, and new demands placed on teachers have caused a negative
spin on technology. In order to be successful, technology must be implemented correctly by the
community, administrators, and teachers together.

Technology is no longer considered to be a special event by students, but is expected to be integrated
into the classroom (Koeber 2005). Even with many districts trying to push 21st century technology
into the classroom mainly failures still exist. These failures range from lack of achievement increases
(Oxford 2006) to struggles with overall plans created by school districts (Owen 2004). The use of
technology must be integrated into the classroom. However, many stakeholders that are on the outside
looking in do not understand how complex this process can be on teachers and the school districts
(Windschitle 2002). It is the purpose of this paper to explore need for technology into classrooms and
to explain why this can be such a problem. To represent the need for technology in the classroom 21st
century learning styles and successful integration techniques will be used. An argument will be made
for why technology has been so hard to correctly integrate. Finally, correct implementation techniques
on a district, school, and classroom level will be examined to show that technology can and should be
used in today s classroom.
Body Need to move to 21st century Gap between 20th and 21st century learner There is a large
amount of people that support the increase of technology into the classroom. However, many of them
do not understand all of the benefits that technology really does bring. Many just think

Descriptive Statistics In Table 2
After conducting an analysis of descriptive statistics, as found in Table I, the results reveal that $224.6
million dollars (M=$4.16 million, SD=$2.99 million) was spent across the 54 multimedia rights
agreements during the 2015 2016 school year. The smallest financial payout is $375,000 and belongs
to Northern Illinois, while the largest contract $12,358,087 million, belonging to the University of
Texas. The disparity among institutions becomes more evident when analyzing the multimedia rights
contracts. Of the $224.6 million dollars spent during the 2015 2016 season, $182.3 million was spent
on institutions who compete in one of the Power 5 conferences, meaning that the 31 Power 5
institutions in this study receive 81.2% of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In terms of total spending, IMG is followed by Learfield (sum = $82.3 million), JMI (sum = $11.9
million). It is important to note that JMI is relatively new when it comes to college multimedia rights
contracts, and only has two institution, which is reflected in their low total payout. However, as
illustrated in Table VI, JMI has a higher average payout than the two larger companies, IMG and
Learfield, (M=$5.93 million, SD= $4.7 million). JMI will see an increase in their average payout
during the 2016 2017 as well as during the 2017 2018 seasons with addition of Clemson who will
make $2.6 million to $7.7 million during the respective seasons. IMG and Learfield are relatively
similar in average payouts, with IMG averaging $4.53 million (SD = $3.52 million) and Learfield
averaging $3.74 million (SD= $1.87 million). IMG and Learfield, both with over 20 contracts a piece
have a far greater range of contract sizes, with IMG controlling both the smallest payout, $375,000,
and the largest payout, $12.36 million. The variables outlined in Table VII were used in an attempt to
explain the effect that numerous factors have on the guaranteed rights fee that a university receives
from a third party rights holder. Those variables were separated into four categories; property related,
football performance, basketball performance, and demand indicators. From there, a Pearson product

The Amendment Protection Against Unreasonable Search And...
Michael Brown in Ferguson, Eric Garner in Staten Island, Tamir Rice in Cleveland, Walter Scott in
North Charleston and, most recently, Freddie Gray in Baltimore have dominated the headlines this
entire school year. These men and their stories provide the basis for claims of racially discriminatory
treatment of African Americans at the hands of the police. It is true that each of the stories surrounding
these men is different, but the one unifying theme is that police around the country are interpreting our
Constitutional rights in a way that is insufficient to protect African Americans and the population in
general. This paper will explore one Constitutional right the 4th Amendment protection against
unreasonable search and seizures and examine how one Supreme Court decision that narrowed the
scope of the 4th Amendment and unintentionally created a mechanism by which the rights of citizens
could be unfairly impeded by police. On June 10 1968, the United States Supreme Court sided with
the government in the case Terry v Ohio, and held that the practice of stop and frisk was within the
bounds of the 4th Amendment and therefore constitutional. On October 31, 1963, while walking a
routine beat in Cleveland, Ohio, Officer Martin McFadden noticed a group of three African American
men acting suspiciously outside of a jewelry store. After watching them walk by the store and
reconvene almost 24 times, McFadden approached the group, identified himself as an officer and

Differences Between Arbitration And Mediation
Differences between Arbitration and Mediation: Arbitration occurs when a neutral third party hears a
dispute and imposes (Miller Cross, 2013) their decision on both parties. Mediation transpires when an
unbiased third party works with both sides to facilitate a resolution (Miller Cross, 2013). Arbitration
and mediation both work to find a solution to the conflict between two parties; but arbitration differs
from mediation through the role of the neutral third party, the formality of the process, the discovery
period of a case, and the type of decision. In both arbitration and mediation there is an impartial third
party. In arbitration, there tends to be more than one arbitrator. In arbitration, there is a panel of
multiple arbitrators ( Mediation , 2015), where one arbitrator is chosen by each side. Afterwards, the
two arbitrators then select a third ( Mediation , 2015) to complete the panel. The panel s role in
arbitration involves coming to decision after hearing parties testify under oath ( Comparison , 2015)
and examining the evidence presented. Unlike arbitration, mediators help both parties with the
discussion and eventual resolution ( Mediation , 2015) of their conflict and case. In a mediation, both
parties select a mediator to help create more understanding, which tends to be a less formal process
than that of an arbitration. The formality of an arbitration and a mediation varies due to their nature.
An arbitration is a

Teijlingen (2014), assert that semi structured interviews consists of predetermined questions where
every participant gets the same key question asked. However, on the other hand there is flexibility in
how the questions are asked and what follow up or probing to use (p.20). Similarly, Clifford, French
and Valentine (2010), describes semi structured interview as a verbal interchange where one person,
the interviewer attempts to elicit information from another person by asking questions (p.103).
Furthermore, the use of semi structured interview unfolds in a conversational manner which offers
participants the chance to explore issues they feel are important regardless of the already
predetermined questions prepared by the researcher. Additionally,

Burt s Bees Flavoured Lip Balms Fulfill More Than...
The Offering
Burt s Bees flavoured lip balms fulfill more than physiological needs like moisturizing lips. It brands
itself as a lifestyle focused brand, fulfilling esteem needs, acting like a fashion accessory that reflects
his or her personality to his or her social circles. According to Burt s Bees VP of Marketing, Lip balm
is becoming something more like a gum product that brightens up consumers [and] you re starting to
see a lot more of what I would call personality driven and lifestyle focused advertising, and we re
focused on the flavours as a way to reinforce the fun aspect of the brand . (Oster, 2014) Though lip
balm is defined as a convenience good due to its high distribution and accessibility, the mindset
consumers have now resembles the higher involvement needed for shopping products (i.e. quality,
style, and most importantly, suitability.)
These three samples from their marketing campaign all reinforce this perception. Yes, people need
lipbalm to moisturize their lips, but they want a lipbalm that reflects their inner self. Its TV ads and
print ads feature beautiful, intricate ways of showing off the personalities of the individual lip balms.
The Vines do the same by weaving in music. In none of these three samples do they mention any
functional benefits it s all about art, music, and most importantly, fun and personality. At the core,
Burt s Bees flavoured lipbalm is about self expression, and the happiness people feel after expressing
themselves.

These mutations cause the severe form of Tay Sachs disease, which appears in infancy. Other
mutations reduce but do not eliminate the activity of beta hexosaminidase A; these genetic changes are

students, undergraduate and graduate, living in campus housing to receive a vaccine that protects
against meningitis B. Also, University employees are urged to receive the vaccine, especially if they
have sickle cell disease of other medical conditions that may make them more susceptible to the
disease. Meningococcal, more commonly know as meningitis, is fairly rare. Meningitis can be spread
through kissing, coughing, sharing drinking glasses, and related actions. Physician James Turner
states, Seven cases is a big deal. If my child was at Princeton, I d tell him to get vaccinated. I d take it
very seriously. According to freshman Phillip Powers, people are worried, but are not taking
precautions. Freshman Warren Bein, who expects to get the vaccine states It s better to be safe than

Many believe that religion is a great factor in the voting process, especially on controversial topics
like abortion and homosexuality, which affects the votes immensely. Moreover, the varieties of
different religions all have contrasting opinions on numerous issues, which then results in many
different conclusions; thus affecting the political votes. Religion, not only is a great aspect in the
voting process today, but was also a tremendous political feature in the nineteenth century. Robert P.
Sweirenga, author of Ethnoreligious Political Behavior in the Mid Nineteenth Century, promotes that,
the most exciting development in American history since the 1960 s is the recognition that religion
was a key variable in voting behavior. In the past time and eras before the 1960 s, religion was the
main element for solving complex issues, which is why religion was a big part of the political
campaigns. Religion has been a part of people s life style for many years; thus affecting their opinions
on controversial topics that are connected with campaigns. In the 1800 s, the church was an influential
role in the government and society. Moreover, majority of the people at this time were extremely
religious, including the government party, which greatly affected the laws of the country and the votes
of the campaigns. In 1832, the political party realized that religion was becoming such a great factor

1840. Even still, after that date, they majority of the government were a part of the church, showing

Essay on Hairstyle and Job
Being a hairstylist, it is all about the skills: The artistic skills, the communication skills, also, the skill
to be patient and respectful. Some people have a difficult time trying to obtain all of these skills.
Hairstylists have a tough job. No one really understands what the stylist goes through. The pressure to
get things right and to make the client happy is a complicated situation. The job of a hairstylist is to
create, develop, and enhance client s personal appearance. However, it is not all about beauty, you
have to be able to interact good with the costumers. Being a hairdresser, your job is to shampoo, cut,

But there will always be that one hairdresser that is perfect for you. That will help choose a hairstyle
for you and that will be communicative. In this career field, as a hairstylist, you do not make much
money. The money you make, plus tips, is $11.13. Which means that annual your wage in this career
is $23.140. Now this is not a lot of money, but for someone who loves their job it will work just fine.
However, there is another way that you can go and you might make more money; is if you rent your
chair from the salon. This way you get what you make on every hairstyle. But the downfall is that you
have to buy all of your own products and tools. Which, I think renting your own chair is the way to
go, because than all you have to pay for is your chair nothing else and you get all the money you
make. When you have a family and so many bills to pay, this is not enough money to live off of.
However, it will do if the husband has a job as well. Hairstylist is a job that will never have a dull
moment. You learn something new every day. This is a career I would enjoy doing every day. You get
to meet so many new people and help them with so many different things. Even though the money isn

There is an ever increasing amount of computer users today. However, even the age old desktop is
being, superseded with smartphones. These smartphones have the ability to gather user information:
such as location and are selling it to marketers. Yet with the increasing information and technology
available to us, the notion that we are losing our individualism increases. The increasing information
is beginning to leave our subconscious susceptible to being controlled by the powerful.

The only way out for someone in the Matrix, was to be freed, by someone not directly plugged in. For
example when Morpheus offered the red and blue pills, he was essentially giving Neo his first ever
taste of free will because Morpheus was not directly plugged in, making him exempt from the
Architects control.
The Orwellian society as shown in the Matrix also shows us where we may be heading. Today we are
seeing technology advance at a faster and faster pace. The ways in which they gather personal
information are growing at an even quicker rate. News Companies, such as Seven News, are creating
applications so they can now cheaply distribute the latest news (Propaganda) straight to people who
have downloaded their application. Rupert Murdock has taken things further using social media sites
like Facebook to distribute news at an even cheaper price. This allows people to like his company s
Facebook page then the news his thoughts will be on their Facebook wall every day. As long as the
human brains decisions rely on outside information such as news, there may never be free will .
The play Frankenstein shows, written by Mary Shelly, shows the early stages of technology and how it
changes individualism. Frankenstein goes against social norm and tries to make life or as others called
it Playing God . Frankenstein neglects what he had created because he expected his creation to look

The Three Main Causes Of The Boxer Rebellion
After suffering many devastating defeats at the hands of the West. The Qing dynasty was suffering,
and the majority of China was left impoverished. In the 1900 s, a secret organisation called the Society
of the Righteous and Harmonious Fists, began carrying out attacks on Chinese Christians and
foreigners. They became known in the West as the boxers , for their martial arts fighting style. There
were three main causes for the Boxer Rebellion.
The first cause for the boxer rebellion, was the anti foreign stance in China. After suffering
humiliating defeats in both the first, and second Opium wars, China was forced to grant concessions to
foreigners. Along with this, they had to sign the unequal treaties which allowed the West to gain a
significant amount of control over China. This left the Chinese population poverty stricken, and angry
at the foreigner. The economy became disastrously disrupted by the arrival of industrialism and
modernity. According to historian David Silbey There was a logic to the anti foreign sentiment: Many
Chinese worked in industries that were disrupted by the arrival of the railroad and the telegraph. There
was a sense that China s balance had been thrown out of whack by these modern innovations, and only
by destroying the innovations and the foreigners who brought them could the balance be restored. .
They regarded the West as foreign devils , and wished to keep sovereignty and independence. They
were extremely nationalistic. Mark Twain

Why Gm Crop Should Be Grown Essay
Biology 3.2 Why GM crop should be grown in New Zealand
Introduction
A Genetically modified organism (GMO) is the product of artificially changing the genome of an
organism, resulting in a change in phenotype. This process is commonly found used on crops and
foods that we all eat. The reason that GM is used is that it causes the organism to express a phenotype
that has some sort of benefit towards the organism. This practice is widely used in Agriculture as
causes the crops to develop certain traits to adapt to the environment and survive; the crops are also
modified to fit human preference. For example some crops are genetically modified so the fruit they
bear grow larger. From these benefits, you may think that everyone would support GM crops, but
there is a large amount of people that are against it especially in New Zealand as you cannot plant GM
crops. The cause of this controversy is that GM crops could be dangerous for human consumption,
due many claims that people have attained diseases and sicknesses from toxins within the crops.
Biological Concepts and Implications
The basis of Genetic engineering is the removal of one or more genes in an organism and then it is
inserted in the DNA of another organism. By doing this, we can express certain traits due to the newly
inserted gene which us as consumers find favourable. An example is the imported GM corn in New
Zealand. A common type of GM corn is MON863 corn (1), which is developed by Monsanto, is
genetically modified

How I Study For Exams And There Are Five Steps That Have...
Every students focus on taking notes when time comes for their examination and it is certainly
interesting how different styles of note taking can affect the result of their examinations. For example,
some students emphasize important aspects by highlighting it or leaving special marks such as
drawing stars and etc. This report will focus on how to study for exams and there are five steps that
have been acquired from the web (they are listed below).
How to study for exam
1. Review your syllabi
2. Pay attention in class
3. Take good notes and memorize them
4. Make studying a part of your habits
5. Ask about the exam format
Out of five steps, this report will exceptionally concentrate on step 3: take good notes. This step will
be linked with visual perception and colour, auditory perception, short term memory and long term
memory.
How is visual perception and colour related to taking notes? Perception is an active process of locating
and extracting information from the environment and learning is the process of acquiring information
through experience and storing information... Visual perception plays an important role in spelling,
mathematics, and reading. Visual perceptual deficits may lead to difficulties in learning,

Why Overpopulation Is The Problem
Research physicist for the American Center for International Policy Studies, Gioietta Kuo, in her
article Mega Crisis? Overpopulation is the Problem describes the possibility of a global mega crisis, a
perfect storm of political, economic, and environmental instability resulting from overpopulation and
leading to the extinction of mankind (Kuo, 23). The purpose of Kuo s article is to stress the fact that
overpopulation has been over looked as the source of many of the problems afflicting the world today,
including climate change, food and water scarcity, environmental degradation, as well as other
economic and social effects like unemployment. She adopts logos, ethos, and pathos as well as an
urgent tone in order to persuade the United Nations, government officials, and the general public to
acknowledge the fact the current high population is the main cause of the problems affecting the world
today and also to stress that the unchecked population growth will lead to a mega crisis.
Kuo was spurred into writing this article by two events, the first was the publishing of an article titled
Global MegaCrisis: Four Scenarios, Two perspectives by William Halal and Michael Marien in May
June 2011. The articled also discussed the impending mega crisis but according to Kuo it failed to
include the one evil that is the mother of all others: world overpopulation (Kuo, 23). With this
statement she hopes to invoke the feeling of urgency and create awareness of the ignored source

Christopher Colombus Letter
This letter was written by Christopher Colombus around 1494. Its contents consist of rules or laws that
would be established for the Island of Espanola, and other islands that would be discovered in the
future. This letter has 13 rules, most of them dealing with wealth and the discovery of gold. It starts
off by stating the amount of colonist that would like to go to this new island, due to the benefits of
trade, farming, and safety. But with this amount of people there has to be order and proper
organization and so every colonist has to become a citizen of a one of the four towns. Afterwards,
there are rules for the amount of gold one is able to collect, how much they would be taxed, and who
will collect this tax. Some of the money would go to the king and queen of Spain while a certain
percentage would go to the building and maintenance churches and the people working there. The
purpose of this letter is to establish an infrastructure for the success of the towns in these discovered
islands, and to convince the king and queen to invest resources and time into Columbus s purpose as

natural order of life is the balance signaling there is always a price to pay for an achievement. In line
with the explosion of the information and technology development, the quality of life has been
literally perceived as jumping onto a higher level of realm. But on the other side of the scale is the
humanity, the price to pay for such an advance achievement. Consequently there is the need to look
into the matter on whether the technology should advance the humanity or it should be the otherwise.

Good communications skills will no longer go verbally but upon a long sour facial expression, or even

society. With verbal communication at stake, the social responsibility has also being driven onto the
cliff, just a step towards rolling down the hill. We can no longer practice good discussions skills, daily
conversations are no longer moderate. There is a call to climb back the cliff to rectify the problems. It
is belief the implementation of the employee monitoring system can enhance the information

that of the traditional Web. The digital human activity on social networking sites has generated a
tremendous amount of data and due to the availability of affordable and portable digital devices, the
social interactions or activities on these networking sites can be measured and stored in digital

A Handmaid s Tale By Margaret Atwood
In a A Handmaid s Tale by Margaret Atwood, readers see a world go from what it once used to be to
total totalitarianism. In this now cruel world called Gilead, we see people stripped from their original
identities, and no longer free. Furthermore, they are brainwashed to believe and abide by new
regulations and rules, and the ones that rebel or no longer are of any use for the government end up
dead. Besides the narrator who is now named Offred in this new society, her past friend Moira from
the pre totalitarian world, is a central figure of hope in the story. Moira becomes a rebel and fights to
win back her freedom, but ultimately that thirst to outsmart the government, leads to her ultimate
destruction. Moira in the pre chaotic world, was a lesbian, logical, stood up for herself, and was a
feminist, which in the world of Gilead, is no longer acceptable. Women were basically now used as
sex slaves and made to have children for others. They had many opportunities to become impregnated

In this essay I am going to evaluate the extent to which Freud s theory of psychosexual development
can help us to understand a client s presenting issue. I will be describing Freud s psychosexual theory
and its relationship to adult neurotic behaviour as well as looking at the criticisms of Freudian theory.
According to Freud personality is mostly established by the age of five. Early experiences play a large
role in personality development and continue to influence behaviour later on in life.
Freud s theory of psychosexual development is one of the best known, but also one of the most
controversial. Freud believed that personality develops through a series of childhood stages during
which the pleasure seeking energies of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Oedipus Complex describes these feelings of wanting to possess the Mother and a desire to
replace the Father. The term Electra complex describes a similar set of feelings experienced by young
girls. Freud believed that girls experienced penis envy.
Eventually the child begins to identify with the same sex parent as a means of vicariously possessing
the other parent. For girls Freud believed that penis envy was never fully resolved and that all women
remain fixated on this stage. Psychologists such as Karen Horney disputed this theory, saying it is both
inaccurate and demeaning to women. Horney suggested that men experienced feelings of inferiority
because they cannot give birth to children.

Narrative Essay On Thanksgiving
Blessings on Thanksgiving When I was younger, I always imagined spending my Thanksgivings with

Spider Silk Research Papers
INTU Statement

Sub topics Key Research Q s
Spider silk
What is spider silk?
Spider silk is a protein fibre spun by spiders themselves. Spider silk is used by spiders to help them
with daily activities such as catching prey, creating nests and/or cocoons, or to wrap up prey. Spiders
also use the silk to suspend themselves in midair, which help them escape from potential predators.
The stickiness and thickness of the silk is mainly dependent on the type of spiders creating it, and the
type of silk being created in some cases is different for different uses. Spider silk, in rare cases are
eaten by spiders as a source of energy/food.

Goats are chosen to produce the silk instead of spiders because first off, the glands which produce silk
in the spiders and the glands that produce the milk in goats are extremely similar. Secondly, spiders
aren t used because if spiders are very territorial and will kill each other for dominion over others. If
we were to create a spider farm the spiders will kill each other off. Goats on the other hand aren t
territorial so lots of production can be done.
Reliability of bulletproof skin
How successful is the bulletproof skin at this point in time?
Bulletproof skin was grown within the laboratory and immediately put to the test to test its reliability.
A bullet was fired at the bulletproof skin just below full speed and the bulletproof skin was able to
successfully cushion the bullet that was fired. The bulletproof skin has boundaries at this point in time

The Positive Impact Of The Reformation In The 16th Century
The Reformation during the 16th century was something that had always been thought of and what is
expected that had a positive impact on many people. Reformers that were in the medieval church like
St. Francis of Assisi, Valdes, Jan Hus, and John Wycliff had thought about the aspects of the church
and throughout life before 1517. During the 16th century, figures such as Erasmus of Rotterdam who
was the chief proponent of liberal Catholic reform, had an ongoing concern before Luther told his
Ninety Five Theses. From Martin Luther the aspect of the beginning of the section is very intriguing,
offering how the impact had caused a positive change: Luther having experienced this new conviction,
it is not surprising that the extravagant claims surrounding the sale of indulgences in 1517 provoked
him to the public. The form and text of that protest became known as the 95 Theses . ( Martin Luther
427). From his objection to the claim, the pope had then relieved the sins of Luther and the Catholic
church. The Reformation was a major change in the Catholic church due to the change of how people
bettered themselves. Luther was unhappy that the Catholic church offered an indulgence for pay, such
as, As for myself, let me say that I, too, am a doctor and a preacher yes, and as learned and
experienced as any of those who act so high and mighty ( Martin Luther 428). By following the
sacraments, many were able to better their relationship with Jesus. Shall we frivolously despise this
might, blessing, power, and fruit especially we who would be pastors and preachers? ( Martin Luther
429). Martin Luther is expressing with powers and questioning what one should do with pastors and
preachers and how one can better that problem to come up with a solution. The following quote sticks
out due to the fact that the quote is setting guidelines to how many should go about living their life,
Sixteenth Rule. In the same way, we must be on our guard that by talking much and with much
insistence of faith, without any distinction and explanation occasion be not given to the people to be

Mario Milkuliencer s Trouble With Trust
Trust can be a controversial topic for many, however the natural positive vibe that humans receive
from the word tends to override any reservations of it. According to the online Merriam Webster
Dictionary, trust requires assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or
something. In today s society trust is slowly starting to disintegrate with the lack of face to face
communication within the age of electronic communication. Because of this we have the inability to
trust others as it starts to develop into trust issues, especially among the younger generation from the
lack of physical connection among individuals. The first foundation that comes with developing trust
is reliability. Possessing reliability in someone or something is important to begin a relationship.
According, to Mario Milkuliencer in the online article Trouble With Trust by Psychology Today there
are three basic foundations. The first one is to have the assumption that if you need a help you can turn
to someone you trust. The second foundation is to have an assumption that your closest companion
will always be there for you. The third and final foundation explains recognition that ... Show more

China Is The Most Overpopulated Country
As the years progress, one question continues to arise, how does one continue to house millions upon
millions of individuals? China is the most overpopulated country in the world, inhabiting the 9.6
million km of land would be more than 1.35 billion individuals. These over populous regions have led
to a decrease of land and recourses, poor living conditions, and an increase in pollution. In order for
the country to grow and prosper, serious changes must be implemented. Alternative housing is one of
the greatest challenges the country is facing. Houses are built so closely together now that disease and
infections are spreading at a rapid pace. The poor resources acquired to build these houses are one of
the leading factors of pollution. It is essential for the country as a whole to turn to these more
economical and ecofriendly materials in order to make a positive spin on the state of which China is
currently in.
The rapid economic growth in China has led to the destruction of forests, the pollution of water, and
the continuous pollution of the air. With the dramatic increase in the population, building production
to house the citizens must increase as well at a startling pace as the land fields decrease in order to
make space. A decline in land leads to a lack of resources, putting the country into a state of panic. A
surge in building production leads to an increase in carbon foot printing, adding to the massive amount
of pollution in the environment already. Alternative

Microscopy Essay
The resolution of optical microscopes is fundamentally limited by the diffraction of light, as
postulated by German physicist Ernst Abbe in 1873. This means that a microscope cannot distinguish
two objects located closer than λ/2NA, where λ is the wavelength of light and NA is the numerical
aperture of the imaging lens (2). Although elucidation of cell functions and subcellular processes has
benefited from advances in fluorescent microscopy, this diffraction limit has fundamentally hindered
optical microscopy for over a century (1). Recently, however, several new developments in imaging
have emerged which can circumvent this limit. By delivering optical images with spatial resolutions
below the diffraction limit super resolution microscopy techniques now permits biologists to visualize
structures and processes of cells at the molecular level, down to several nanometers. This incredible
improvement in spatial resolution has allowed biologists to address important new questions requiring
resolutions below 250nm, involving details such as the fine architecture of cell structures, focal
adhesions, microtubules, and coated vesicles. Internal dynamic processes can also now be studied,
including the movement of focal adhesion complexes and bacteria polarity complexes (3). Super
resolution techniques used for live cell imaging studies can generally be divided into three categories:
those based on highly localized fluorescence emission volumes; those based on structured
illumination;

The Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument
A historical context of the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument: United States
President, Barack Obama, declared the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument the largest
oceanic reserve system in the world through an expansion in protected territory by a presidential
proclamation on September 25th, 2014. The reserve system originally was formed on January 6th,
2009 by a proclamation signed by President George W. Bush. The ocean ecosystems now under
protection are to the south and west of Hawaii in waters surrounding small islands and reef systems
under the United States jurisdiction (See Figure 1). These areas include, Kingman Reef, Palmyra
Atoll, Howland Island, Baker Island, Jarvis Island, Johnston Atoll, and Wake Island. The total area
now protected through this reserve system is 782,000 square miles (2,030,000 km2) (Citation). In
these newly protected regions it is now prohibited to fish, hunt, or mine for resources due to these
proclamations. After this expansion, the reserve system will continue to serve as an invaluable area to
monitor the effects of climate change and ocean acidification especially on reef and deep water
systems. The reserve will also serve as a valuable repository for plant, animal, and microbial life for
humans to use for discovery and to aid in restocking depleted resources elsewhere. Many new species

Dynamic Data Driven Selection Of Sensor Streams
On Dynamic Data Driven Selection of Sensor Streams
This paper covers the online sensor selection in which the sensor network and relations between
sensors dynamically change by time and a model which is working for selection of sensors at time
may not work for the sensor selection at time , . The selection model of this paper is similar to model
discussed in section 3 (i.e. Online distributed sensor selection) but it is based on a well defined special
centralized algorithm (central server calculates the utility function and decides which sensors should
be selected).
The main goal of the sensor selection is to preserve battery by selecting a subset of sensors for
prediction. After the sensors have been selected, their value will be read in multiple turns (i.e. active
turns) and it will be used to predict the unselected sensors, then the value of all sensors will be read
(i.e. passive turn) and based on that the active set of the next interval will be selected. The art of this
paper is to find a way to switch between active and passive selection modes in some specific update
intervals (number of active turns before a passive turn) to find the optimized selection of sensors for
the next interval of data collection, this way it preserves the power requirement by activating only few
sensors for multiple turns and then trying to maintain the active set using the collected data of the
passive turns. It accomplishes this task by doing evaluation regression model over multiple

Comparing The Snow Queen And The Hero s Journey
The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Anderson has been told for almost two hundred years. It is the
story of a little girl and a little boy who are best friends that do everything together. One day, the little
boy goes missing and the little girl must journey to find him and bring him home. The little girl,
Gerda, shows bravery, selflessness, and relentlessness throughout the tale. Through these she shows
heroism, which helps her through the journey to find the little boy, Kay. These values reveal Gerda s
cultural background, and what her family expects of her. In each transformation of the text, The Hero s

She greets them like old friends and introduces Kay to them. Throughout the whole story, Gerda
showed cultural values of a true hero. During the departure phase, she showed bravery, loyalty, and
selflessness. In the initiation phase, she exhibited kindness and relentlessness. Finally, in the return
phase Gerda revealed that she is caring and has a softer side to herself. Once she found Kay, she wept
because she had finally found her best friend. Kay was still under the influence of the mirror and did
not recognize her. This made Gerda cry harder, resulting in Kay s frozen heart to melt and the splinter
in his eye to fall out. From beginning to end, Gerda demonstrated a true heroic personality, which
helped her complete her journey. The Snow Queen has been around for almost two centuries, but no
matter how old the story becomes, people do not stop reading it. The Snow Queen has also influenced
readers since Hans Christian Anderson wrote it. Every reader will understand The Hero s Journey
through The Snow Queen, and will be able to detect it in other stories. Young readers have looked at

  • 2. Good Will Hunting and Bell Hooks Keeping Close to Home Essay Going off to college is probably one of the best things a person can do to further their education. The promise of a degree from a university seems achievable but is shadowed with the many challenges that come with a higher edification. Often many college students find themselves bothered by these obstacles which can determine whether the college student succeeds or not. There are many endeavors in college but it depends on how the student reacts to these situations. Will Hunting s inability to trust, love and communicate handicaps him to do well in life with careers and relationships. In the essay entitled Keeping Close to Home: Class and Education, the author Bell Hooks tells of her struggles when she goes off to the prestigious college Stanford University at the age of 18. Reason for this adamant feeling was that Hooks was brought up during a period when women didn t really leave the house to go to school. It was unheard of to leave a small town in the south and go to a big college out in the west. Especially if Hooks was going to be by her self her parents did not like the idea that she would be far away from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Technology is no longer considered to be a special event by students, but is expected to be integrated into the classroom (Koeber 2005). Even with many districts trying to push 21st century technology into the classroom mainly failures still exist. These failures range from lack of achievement increases (Oxford 2006) to struggles with overall plans created by school districts (Owen 2004). The use of technology must be integrated into the classroom. However, many stakeholders that are on the outside looking in do not understand how complex this process can be on teachers and the school districts (Windschitle 2002). It is the purpose of this paper to explore need for technology into classrooms and to explain why this can be such a problem. To represent the need for technology in the classroom 21st century learning styles and successful integration techniques will be used. An argument will be made for why technology has been so hard to correctly integrate. The disparity among institutions becomes more evident when analyzing the multimedia rights contracts. Of the $224.6 million dollars spent during the 2015 2016 season, $182.3 million was spent on institutions who compete in one of the Power 5 conferences, meaning that the 31 Power 5 institutions in this study receive 81.2% of the ... However, as illustrated in Table VI, JMI has a higher average payout than the two larger companies, IMG and Learfield, (M=$5.93 million, SD= $4.7 million). JMI will see an increase in their average payout during the 2016 2017 as well as during the 2017 2018 seasons with addition of Clemson who will make $2.6 million to $7.7 million during the respective seasons. IMG and Learfield are relatively similar in average payouts, with IMG averaging $4.53 million (SD = $3.52 million) and Learfield averaging $3.74 million (SD= $1.87 million). IMG and Learfield, both with over 20 contracts a piece have a far greater range of contract sizes, with IMG controlling both the smallest payout, $375,000, and the largest payout, $12.36 million. The variables outlined in Table VII were used in an attempt to explain the effect that numerous factors have on the guaranteed rights fee that a university receives from a third party rights holder. Michael Brown in Ferguson, Eric Garner in Staten Island, Tamir Rice in Cleveland, Walter Scott in North Charleston and, most recently, Freddie Gray in Baltimore have dominated the headlines this entire school year. These men and their stories provide the basis for claims of racially discriminatory treatment of African Americans at the hands of the police. It is true that each of the stories surrounding these men is different, but the one unifying theme is that police around the country are interpreting our Constitutional rights in a way that is insufficient to protect African Americans and the population in general. This paper will explore one Constitutional right the 4th Amendment protection against unreasonable search and seizures and examine how one Supreme Court decision that narrowed the scope of the 4th Amendment and unintentionally created a mechanism by which the rights of citizens could be unfairly impeded by police. On June 10 1968, the United States Supreme Court sided with the government in the case Terry v Ohio, and held that the practice of stop and frisk was within the bounds of the 4th Amendment and therefore constitutional. On October 31, 1963, while walking a routine beat in Cleveland, Ohio, Officer Martin McFadden noticed a group of three African American men acting suspiciously outside of a jewelry store. • 6. Differences Between Arbitration And Mediation Differences between Arbitration and Mediation: Arbitration occurs when a neutral third party hears a dispute and imposes (Miller Cross, 2013) their decision on both parties. Mediation transpires when an unbiased third party works with both sides to facilitate a resolution (Miller Cross, 2013). Arbitration and mediation both work to find a solution to the conflict between two parties; but arbitration differs from mediation through the role of the neutral third party, the formality of the process, the discovery period of a case, and the type of decision. In both arbitration and mediation there is an impartial third party. In arbitration, there tends to be more than one arbitrator. In arbitration, there is a panel of multiple arbitrators ( Mediation , 2015), where one arbitrator is chosen by each side. Afterwards, the two arbitrators then select a third ( Mediation , 2015) to complete the panel. The panel s role in arbitration involves coming to decision after hearing parties testify under oath ( Comparison , 2015) and examining the evidence presented. Unlike arbitration, mediators help both parties with the discussion and eventual resolution ( Mediation , 2015) of their conflict and case. In a mediation, both parties select a mediator to help create more understanding, which tends to be a less formal process than that of an arbitration. The formality of an arbitration and a mediation varies due to their nature. An arbitration is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the 1900 s, a secret organisation called the Society of the Righteous and Harmonious Fists, began carrying out attacks on Chinese Christians and foreigners. They became known in the West as the boxers , for their martial arts fighting style. There were three main causes for the Boxer Rebellion. The first cause for the boxer rebellion, was the anti foreign stance in China. After suffering humiliating defeats in both the first, and second Opium wars, China was forced to grant concessions to foreigners. Along with this, they had to sign the unequal treaties which allowed the West to gain a significant amount of control over China. This left the Chinese population poverty stricken, and angry at the foreigner. The economy became disastrously disrupted by the arrival of industrialism and modernity. According to historian David Silbey There was a logic to the anti foreign sentiment: Many Chinese worked in industries that were disrupted by the arrival of the railroad and the telegraph. There was a sense that China s balance had been thrown out of whack by these modern innovations, and only by destroying the innovations and the foreigners who brought them could the balance be restored. . • 16. Why Gm Crop Should Be Grown Essay Biology 3.2 Why GM crop should be grown in New Zealand Introduction A Genetically modified organism (GMO) is the product of artificially changing the genome of an organism, resulting in a change in phenotype. This process is commonly found used on crops and foods that we all eat. The reason that GM is used is that it causes the organism to express a phenotype that has some sort of benefit towards the organism. This practice is widely used in Agriculture as causes the crops to develop certain traits to adapt to the environment and survive; the crops are also modified to fit human preference. For example some crops are genetically modified so the fruit they bear grow larger. From these benefits, you may think that everyone would support GM crops, but there is a large amount of people that are against it especially in New Zealand as you cannot plant GM crops. The cause of this controversy is that GM crops could be dangerous for human consumption, due many claims that people have attained diseases and sicknesses from toxins within the crops. Biological Concepts and Implications The basis of Genetic engineering is the removal of one or more genes in an organism and then it is inserted in the DNA of another organism. By doing this, we can express certain traits due to the newly inserted gene which us as consumers find favourable. An example is the imported GM corn in New Zealand. The purpose of Kuo s article is to stress the fact that overpopulation has been over looked as the source of many of the problems afflicting the world today, including climate change, food and water scarcity, environmental degradation, as well as other economic and social effects like unemployment. In line with the explosion of the information and technology development, the quality of life has been literally perceived as jumping onto a higher level of realm. But on the other side of the scale is the humanity, the price to pay for such an advance achievement. Consequently there is the need to look into the matter on whether the technology should advance the humanity or it should be the otherwise. Verbal communication has always been the best medium in delivering day to day conversation, sharing thoughts and ideologies, thus nurturing a good social responsibility among the society. With verbal communication at stake, the social responsibility has also being driven onto the cliff, just a step towards rolling down the hill. We can no longer practice good discussions skills, daily conversations are no longer moderate. There is a call to climb back the cliff to rectify the problems. It is belief the implementation of the employee monitoring system can enhance the information transferring system thus improving the communication system. With the widespread of such working environment, next comes the misused of the communication and information technology. Blackmail and poison pen letter have since become threats. The Digital Human Activity On Social Networking Sites chapter{Conclusions}% and Future Research Directions} label{final:conclustion} drop{S}{ocial} networks have been the pulse of human society, traffic on these social networking sites currently rival that of the traditional Web. The digital human activity on social networking sites has generated a tremendous amount of data and due to the availability of affordable and portable digital devices, the social interactions or activities on these networking sites can be measured and stored in digital formats. These data contain a lot of important information and had been used in testing numerous sociological hypothesis and also modeling systems that depend on human activities and research in this area is actively ongoing in the research community. The social interaction as the result of the human activities on these networks generate a non trivial topology in the process of time. %After the discovering of the ``heavy tail distribution , the small world phenomenon and high clustering in real networks, And various graph theoretical tools have been developed and used to analyze this network topology and also modeled networks with such topology. In this dissertation, the theory and key technology challenges within social networks are thoroughly investigated and various novel findings are presented. In this now cruel world called Gilead, we see people stripped from their original identities, and no longer free. Furthermore, they are brainwashed to believe and abide by new regulations and rules, and the ones that rebel or no longer are of any use for the government end up dead. Besides the narrator who is now named Offred in this new society, her past friend Moira from the pre totalitarian world, is a central figure of hope in the story. Moira becomes a rebel and fights to win back her freedom, but ultimately that thirst to outsmart the government, leads to her ultimate destruction. Moira in the pre chaotic world, was a lesbian, logical, stood up for herself, and was a feminist, which in the world of Gilead, is no longer acceptable. I will be describing Freud s psychosexual theory and its relationship to adult neurotic behaviour as well as looking at the criticisms of Freudian theory. According to Freud personality is mostly established by the age of five. Early experiences play a large role in personality development and continue to influence behaviour later on in life. Freud s theory of psychosexual development is one of the best known, but also one of the most controversial. Freud believed that personality develops through a series of childhood stages during which the pleasure seeking energies of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For girls Freud believed that penis envy was never fully resolved and that all women remain fixated on this stage. Psychologists such as Karen Horney disputed this theory, saying it is both inaccurate and demeaning to women. Horney suggested that men experienced feelings of inferiority because they cannot give birth to children. Sub topics Key Research Q s Spider silk What is spider silk? Spider silk is a protein fibre spun by spiders themselves. Spider silk is used by spiders to help them with daily activities such as catching prey, creating nests and/or cocoons, or to wrap up prey. Spiders also use the silk to suspend themselves in midair, which help them escape from potential predators. The stickiness and thickness of the silk is mainly dependent on the type of spiders creating it, and the type of silk being created in some cases is different for different uses. • 32. The Positive Impact Of The Reformation In The 16th Century The Reformation during the 16th century was something that had always been thought of and what is expected that had a positive impact on many people. Reformers that were in the medieval church like St. Francis of Assisi, Valdes, Jan Hus, and John Wycliff had thought about the aspects of the church and throughout life before 1517. During the 16th century, figures such as Erasmus of Rotterdam who was the chief proponent of liberal Catholic reform, had an ongoing concern before Luther told his Ninety Five Theses. From Martin Luther the aspect of the beginning of the section is very intriguing, offering how the impact had caused a positive change: Luther having experienced this new conviction, it is not surprising that the extravagant claims surrounding the sale of indulgences in 1517 provoked him to the public. The form and text of that protest became known as the 95 Theses . ( Martin Luther 427). From his objection to the claim, the pope had then relieved the sins of Luther and the Catholic church. The Reformation was a major change in the Catholic church due to the change of how people bettered themselves. Luther was unhappy that the Catholic church offered an indulgence for pay, such as, As for myself, let me say that I, too, am a doctor and a preacher yes, and as learned and experienced as any of those who act so high and mighty ( Martin Luther 428). By following the sacraments, many were able to better their relationship with Jesus. Shall we frivolously despise this might, blessing, power, and fruit especially we who would be pastors and preachers? ( Martin Luther 429). Martin Luther is expressing with powers and questioning what one should do with pastors and preachers and how one can better that problem to come up with a solution. The following quote sticks out due to the fact that the quote is setting guidelines to how many should go about living their life, Sixteenth Rule. In the same way, we must be on our guard that by talking much and with much insistence of faith, without any distinction and explanation occasion be not given to the people to be lazy and slothful in works, whether before faith is formed in charity or after ( Saint Ignatius of Loyola 446). • 33. Mario Milkuliencer s Trouble With Trust Trust can be a controversial topic for many, however the natural positive vibe that humans receive from the word tends to override any reservations of it. According to the online Merriam Webster Dictionary, trust requires assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something. In today s society trust is slowly starting to disintegrate with the lack of face to face communication within the age of electronic communication. Because of this we have the inability to trust others as it starts to develop into trust issues, especially among the younger generation from the lack of physical connection among individuals. The first foundation that comes with developing trust is reliability. Possessing reliability in someone or something is important to begin a relationship. According, to Mario Milkuliencer in the online article Trouble With Trust by Psychology Today there are three basic foundations. The first one is to have the assumption that if you need a help you can turn to someone you trust. The second foundation is to have an assumption that your closest companion will always be there for you. The third and final foundation explains recognition that ... China is the most overpopulated country in the world, inhabiting the 9.6 million km of land would be more than 1.35 billion individuals. These over populous regions have led to a decrease of land and recourses, poor living conditions, and an increase in pollution. In order for the country to grow and prosper, serious changes must be implemented. Alternative housing is one of the greatest challenges the country is facing. Houses are built so closely together now that disease and infections are spreading at a rapid pace. The poor resources acquired to build these houses are one of the leading factors of pollution. It is essential for the country as a whole to turn to these more economical and ecofriendly materials in order to make a positive spin on the state of which China is currently in. The rapid economic growth in China has led to the destruction of forests, the pollution of water, and the continuous pollution of the air. With the dramatic increase in the population, building production to house the citizens must increase as well at a startling pace as the land fields decrease in order to make space. • 35. Microscopy Essay The resolution of optical microscopes is fundamentally limited by the diffraction of light, as postulated by German physicist Ernst Abbe in 1873. This means that a microscope cannot distinguish two objects located closer than λ/2NA, where λ is the wavelength of light and NA is the numerical aperture of the imaging lens (2). Although elucidation of cell functions and subcellular processes has benefited from advances in fluorescent microscopy, this diffraction limit has fundamentally hindered optical microscopy for over a century (1). Recently, however, several new developments in imaging have emerged which can circumvent this limit. By delivering optical images with spatial resolutions below the diffraction limit super resolution microscopy techniques now permits biologists to visualize structures and processes of cells at the molecular level, down to several nanometers. This incredible improvement in spatial resolution has allowed biologists to address important new questions requiring resolutions below 250nm, involving details such as the fine architecture of cell structures, focal adhesions, microtubules, and coated vesicles. Internal dynamic processes can also now be studied, including the movement of focal adhesion complexes and bacteria polarity complexes (3). Super resolution techniques used for live cell imaging studies can generally be divided into three categories: those based on highly localized fluorescence emission volumes; those based on structured illumination; ... The reserve system originally was formed on January 6th, 2009 by a proclamation signed by President George W. Bush. The ocean ecosystems now under protection are to the south and west of Hawaii in waters surrounding small islands and reef systems under the United States jurisdiction (See Figure 1). These areas include, Kingman Reef, Palmyra Atoll, Howland Island, Baker Island, Jarvis Island, Johnston Atoll, and Wake Island. The total area now protected through this reserve system is 782,000 square miles (2,030,000 km2) (Citation). In these newly protected regions it is now prohibited to fish, hunt, or mine for resources due to these proclamations. After this expansion, the reserve system will continue to serve as an invaluable area to monitor the effects of climate change and ocean acidification especially on reef and deep water systems. The reserve will also serve as a valuable repository for plant, animal, and microbial life for humans to use for discovery and to aid in restocking depleted resources elsewhere. Dynamic Data Driven Selection Of Sensor Streams On Dynamic Data Driven Selection of Sensor Streams This paper covers the online sensor selection in which the sensor network and relations between sensors dynamically change by time and a model which is working for selection of sensors at time may not work for the sensor selection at time , . The selection model of this paper is similar to model discussed in section 3 (i.e. Online distributed sensor selection) but it is based on a well defined special centralized algorithm (central server calculates the utility function and decides which sensors should be selected). The main goal of the sensor selection is to preserve battery by selecting a subset of sensors for prediction. After the sensors have been selected, their value will be read in multiple turns (i.e. active turns) and it will be used to predict the unselected sensors, then the value of all sensors will be read (i.e. passive turn) and based on that the active set of the next interval will be selected. The art of this paper is to find a way to switch between active and passive selection modes in some specific update intervals (number of active turns before a passive turn) to find the optimized selection of sensors for the next interval of data collection, this way it preserves the power requirement by activating only few sensors for multiple turns and then trying to maintain the active set using the collected data of the passive turns. It accomplishes this task by doing evaluation regression model over multiple ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Argumentative Essay On The Salem Witch Trials The Salem Witch Trials The largest outbreak of witchcraft in America took place in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. A group of girls, including the Parris s Indian slave Tituba, gathered in the Salem village and were attempting to see the future by decoding messages . Shortly after this gathering the girls started showing signs of the possessed (pg. 73). To this day people all over America are still amazed with the events that took place in this time. But why is that? The fear of the village fell heavily onto the judicial system, which later made people focus on the proper separation of government and religious beliefs. Mass hysteria broke out amongst the village and many people were being accused, therefore leading to many innocent deaths. Although there could be many theories as to the reason the witch trials in Salem began, there are two points of view that are very commonly shared amongst people. Some believe that the Salem witch trials were women unconsciously searching for power, whereas others believe it was an encephalitis epidemic. In fact, Lyle Koehler believes that the women of Salem were unconsciously seeking power in the patriarch world that they lived in. There indeed was a pattern to those being convicted of witch craft in Salem. Three fourths of the people accused were female, of the 56 men accused, half were related to the accused women (pg. 74). To Kholer this just seems too specific to be an encephalitis epidemic. The women of Salem used the accusations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
