Mrs Sowerberry s Influence On The Character Of Dr Fagin
Noah Claypole is the perfect example of how environment can corrupt children : he is an
apprentice of Mr. Sowerberry and was often ridiculed by other boys. As a result he started bullying
others too, and it is no surprise that he later joins Fagin. Among the young female characters,
Nancy would be the counterpart to Rose. She too have been corrupted by Faginwho drove her into
prostitution. But unlike the Artful Dodger, she kept a sense of what is good and bad : even this
degraded being felt too proud to betray a feeble gleam of the womanly feeling which she thought a
weakness, but which alone connected her with that humanity, of which her wasting life had
obliterated so many, many traces when a very child. Dickens seems to imply that there... Show more

This novel is indeed quite a political statement : children characters are shown unfit for a harsh
environment and the only outcome for them is to die at a young age, like Dick or Nancy.
Dickens is thus arguing that the Original Sin is a belief that belongs to the past, and that children
should be protected from misery, labour and mistreatment. However, Oliver doesn t die and his
inherent goodness and innocence seem to remain uncorrupted by the people he encounters and
the course of events. Dickens may have made a symbol out of Oliver, the ideal of the Romantic
child if kept from corruption. Oliver is what the other misfortunate children of the novel could
have been. He is what they should have been : good, innocent and pious. Oliver twist was a
popular novel among the middle class at the time it was published : although Victorian poor
children were exploited in factories, mine and workhouses, literary Victorians who were mostly
middle class had a certain affection for orphans and pauper children. Dickens specifically targeted
his middle class audience to trigger its compassion for unfortunate children beyond literature, thats
is to say into reality. It is no coincidence that Maylie and Rose, two middle class characters, realize
that Oliver doesn t have the

Molly Burke Research Paper
Molly Burke was born on February 8, 1994, to a happy mother named Niamh and father Peter.
She grew up in a small two story house with her brother,Brady, mom and dad in a small town of
Oakville. Molly is twenty four years old. She is very short and has long dark hair. he is a
YouTuber and a star motivational speaker who happens to be blind, You may be thinking was
she born blind, was she in a sort of accident or did she get a disease, Well to find out about that
we will need to go far back...... Molly was a normal little baby but when she was a toddler her
parents noticed something was different about her. Like if she went to reach for something she
would be off and miss it, So her parents took her to a doctor and found out her depth perception
was off. But as she grew older to be about four and a half her parents noticed that she was falling
behind and her depth perception was not getting any better. They took her back to the doctor and
the doctor diagnosed her with Retinitis Pigmentosa disease (Retinitis Pigmentosa is a rare
disease where there are freckles on her retina that will eventually cause her to be blind). Her
parents were devastated, but still wanted her to grow up like a normal child but it was hard
because her eyesight was getting worse every day. They still... Show more content on

That Once in a Lifetime Chance It is a great feeling going to a place where it s a huge matter in
one s life. Revisiting Sacred Ground N. Scott Momaday had made a pilgrimage which his Kiowa
ancestors. Momaday has said, There are certain villages, and towns mountains and plains that,
having seen them, walked in them, lived in them, even for a day, we keep forever in the mind s
eye. Just like how Momaday relived his ancestor s trails, I had a chance as well. I was lucky enough
to be able to go on such a sacred journey that people would pay in thousands of dollars. The
pilgrimage I would like to talk about is the one I took to a sacred city in India called Badrinath. I ...

Badrinath was literally the whole reason we went on this trip. It was known as one of the most
holiest, and sacred places to be at. We arrived there later in the Afternoon. After we checked into
our hotel, we went and explored the city. And while exploring the city we saw many beautiful
temples, and all these lead us to the main temple, the Badrinath Temple. We had to cross over a
small walking bridge which went over the Alaknandha River, It went with such force, and if you
sit in that water nonstop for more than ten fifteen minutes, you will surely have a heart failure,
because the water is that cold, and we are at an extreme altitude. And the most Ironic thing about
this cold river is after we crossed it we have to bathe before we enter the temple, even if we had
bathed in the morning. When we went to the place we were supposed to bathe, we came to find
out that it was a hot spring and this hot spring was ten feet away from the extremely cold
Alaknanda waters, ironic enough, I thought so. After we finished bathing there was a ritual which
we had to perform. We had to get into brand new clothes and we had to give the clothes were
wearing to the more unfortunate people. So after we did that, we went into the main temple, it was
enriched with beautiful colors and sculptures all made since the time the temple was created. We
had gone in and while we were coming outside, we

The History of the Belgian Congo
The History of the Belgian Congo The year is 1960, at first the Congo was a colony, but on June
30th, 1960 Prime Minister Patrice Lumumba gave independence to the Congo freeing its
citizens. Only to be kicked out of office just a few weeks after their independence. Six months
later Lumumba to be assassinated. When Lumumba came into office, it was a time where the
Anti colonial movement reached its peak. It is a staggering example of what the Western ruling
classes are capable of when their vital interests are threatened. Assassination then becomes a
useful measure, a possible solution. (Kanza XXV) Lumumba s assassination binds together that
a self proclaimed European mental hierarchy that created the basis of Africa. Frightened by
Lumumba not only as a well rounded man who loved his job and who he worked for and also
being a supporter of the Anti colonial movement. But as an African Male whose ego became the
best of him, he had the chance to gain the loyalty of many and be able to pin point the struggles
and goals in their everyday lives.
The Congo crisis is due to just one man, Patrice Lumumba (Hochschild 49)
He had the Ability to change everyone s lives because of the power he had. The chance to spread
and promote democracy among the people while also spreading equality among them as well.
Lumumba...advocated a complete decolonisation that would benefit the population as a whole. He
had, therefore, to be stopped. (Kanza XVII)

Stradivarius Violin Research Paper
The construction of the Stradivarius violin is very unique compared to the build of other violins,
whether they were made centuries ago or serve as modern day instruments. While there are a
number of other rare violins and instruments of different kinds, not even one has ever came
remarkably close to achieving what Antonio Stradivari has with the making of his stringed
instruments, in particular, his violins. Over the years there have been many attempts to reproduce
the authentic sound quality of his instruments, but no one has ever been able to achieve this goal.
What exactly makes the Stradivarius violinso unique? The materials used to make the instrument

Stradivari was actually well in touch with the results of other impressive instruments that had been
constructed before his. He was able to gain experience by comparing the many instruments built
by the early Brescian and Cremonese makers by deducing from them the aspects that made them
unfavorable and applying these aspects to his own creative works. Every generation has
contributed something to the construction of musical instruments, and Stradivari combined these
centuries of contributions to create something astounding that opened up a new chapter in
history. While it is a known fact that Stradivari got a lot of inspiration from previous
violinmakers (Visconti, who is a well known violinist, is said to have given advice to this master
of violin construction), people insist that he was a natural born genius, so much so that he has
been claimed to be a superhuman . Based on scientific principles, many different works have been
written based on the unsurpassed tonal qualities found in his instruments. However, there has also
been a daily study of Stradivari s works that were compared to those of the craftsmen who came
before him. When put to the test it was found that the density of the bellies and backs of Stradivari
s instruments were made based on the principles of Gasparo, in addition to the result of a gradual
progression, which Maggini and Amatis had in common with him. Those who have examined his
work have noted that Stradivari adjusted the thickness of his instruments, but there is no indication
that he used any principles as a guide other than what has been derived from the practices of his
forerunners. Stradivari left the backs and bellies of his instruments a little thinner (or stouter), with
their backs displaying a larger variation than their

Since 10 Things I Hate About You is a modern adaptation of The Taming of the Shrewthe
characters share similar personalities and even names. First, they have the same main
characters. Kathrine Minola in The Taming of the Shrew and Kat Stratford from 10 Things I
Hate About You are both women who are very rude, harsh and are sometimes violent. From their
personalities, it is obvious that both are the shrew in the play and the movie, which means they
are argumentative and ill tempered. Kat is more verbally abusive while Kathrine is physically
abusive. Although they are seen and viewed as shrews , Kat is more like an opinionated woman
who believes in what she thinks and is not afraid to say it. Petruchio and Patrick Verona, loved
which is from the movie 10 Things I Hate About You , are the suitors for Kat and Kathrine.
Although in 10 Things I Hate About You Kat and Patrick did fall in love but Petruchio and
Kathrine did not love each other, their relationship was mostly about the money that was given
by Bapista to Petruchio. The difference is also the age. In 10 Things I Hate About You they are
all high school students while in The Taming of the Shrew they are of marrying age. Then there
is Lucentio, Cameron in 10 Things I Hate About You . They both like Bianca, Bianca Minola in
The Taming of the Shrew which are Kat/Kathrine s sisters. Cameron was not very confident to
go to Bianca and talk to her when he first saw her. Lucintio in the other hand was a man with
high self esteem. An example of a quote said by Lucintio about Bianca is O Tranio, till I found it

Comparing Satire in Babbitt by Sinclair Lewis and The...
The Power of Satire in Babbitt and The Simpsons
Sinclair Lewis used his writing to promote the enrichment of American society by attacking the
weaknesses he perceived in his era. His most notable work, Babbitt, is a satire on the middle class
lifestyle and attitude of the 1920s. Lewis satirical style and voice is comparable to the modern
television series The Simpsons, written by Matt Groening. Babbitt and The Simpsons contain
numerous similarities in satirical writing, presentation and commentary. Matt Groening satirizes
many modern situations with his style and characterization in The Simpsons that are similar to the
conditions in Babbitt. The Simpsons represent the pinnacle of how Lewis opinions are still ... Show

Next, Myra explains to him that people may criticize him, causing his reputation to be ruined.
Babbitt comes back with, Let em criticize! (Lewis 353). Babbitt eventually realizes how much his
liberal mindedness is hurting his family and image, and resorts back to being a sound businessman
with a mechanized workday.
Sinclair Lewis and Matt Groening use similar satiric writing styles that mock the middle class
lifestyle of their eras. Lewis and Groening use their unique styles of hidden humor to satirize the
cruel domination of business, obsessions with status and material possessions, the lack of culture,
mechanical thought, religious issues and prohibition to express their feelings of distaste and
uneasiness towards their time period s values and compliant lifestyles.
The tyranny of business and all its twisted ethics are very apparent in Babbitt and The Simpsons.
In Babbitt, Lewis points out the corrupt nature of business dealings and their effects on other
people. An example is the Lyte Purdy deal where Babbitt gets Lyte to buy some property next to
Purdy s lot where Purdy planned to expand. By Babbitt helping Lyte, the price is marked up by ten
thousand dollars, the reward paid by the community to Mr. Conrad Lyte for the virtue of employing
a broker who had Vision and who understood Talking Points, Strategic Values, Key Situations,

Book Thief Rudy
Throughout the novel The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak, Rudy Steiner has shown his heroic
capability by continuously putting other s needs before his own. His interminable behavior
towards the less fortunate, Liesel, and many different characters demonstrates his boldness and
bravery to help others, just as a hero would do. From the beginning of the book, you can infer
that Rudy is an altruistic character from his actions of defending Liesel in front of her
classmates (page 51), to feeding the undesirable Jews on the streets of Molching (page 440).
Therefore, under all of these circumstances, Rudy seems undaunted by the consequences that he
may have brought upon himself. Now, with World War Two under way, the young boy feels the
need to protect his family, friends, and the new girl on Himmel Street, Liesel. Rudy is an
individual who follows his heart and is impervious on what the rest of the world perceives.
Lately, his whole world has revolved around Liesel Meminger, the new girl on Himmel Street
who has come to live with Hans and Rosa Hubermann. The lipstick print denotes his desire to
kiss her as brought up throughout the book such as on page 53, when the author says, It was the
lover boy coming out of him. If I beat you, I get to kiss you. Although Liesel refuses numerous
times, Rudy still remains diligent in trying. He seems unharmed by the denial from Liesel from the
naked eye, but on the inside, he gets discouraged as pointed out on page 303. He must have longed

My Dreaded Enemy, My Dearest Friend
My Dreaded Enemy, My Dearest Friend
On a cold Sunday morning in February, I woke up dreading the day. I had an essay to write, three

Mikayla? Mikayla, can you hear me?
The harsh, bright lights of my bathroom burned my retinas and a man I didn t recognize came into
focus. He looked like the perfect beach: hair the color of sand and eyes the color of seawater. At
first, I thought he was an angel coming to save me. In a way, I guess he was. His navy blue shirt
had a crest and the letters E M T embroidered on the pocket. The tile was as cold as ice. Although
it was my bathroom that I had been in a million times, everything felt foreign. I must have zoned
out, I thought. Yeah, I can hear you, I whispered. I didn t even want to look him in the eyes. My
right forearm, leg, and fingers were crusted with dark crimson blood. What happened? The flash
of a fresh razor blade suddenly sliced through my fuzzy and confused thoughts. Oh. The man
quietly wrapped my arm in gauze. I could hear another man talking to my mom just beyond the
bathroom door. She definitely knows how to take care of things like this. She s managed to stop
the bleeding for now, but it may need stitches. There I sat, curled up in a ball of protection, shame,
and fear while they discussed what to do with me. A

Standard English Essay
The question to ask is: Why not use Standard English all the time?
Language is a powerful communication tool the user holds to express their individual identity and
ingroup solidarity. The use of Standard English helps to direct this, as it acts as the structure of
communication, ingroup and between speech communities to effectively present a standard for
mutual understanding. Outside of Standard English comes the use of slang, netspeak and
textspeak, which helps to develop and enrich the language, as well as evolve with contemporary
Australia and its fast paced lifestyle. Using the Standard all the time would be exclusive of the
linguistic freedom formed by the world beyond Standard English with varying ethnolects, but is

Other forms of the English language are developed from speech communities with an intention, for
efficiency and to show inclusion, and to exclude others. It also helps to convey a specific identity of
the speaker, with the use of syntactic and phonological differences from Standard English. These
modifications form non standard dialects, transferring the speaker s cultural background and
language to provide a better perception and reflection of identity. The falling intonation
accompanied with interrogatives in the Asian ethnolect, such as Gravy? , is the opposite of the
rising intonation used for the same purpose by Australians, and can quickly cause conflict between
the two communities due to the missing benchmark in language. Pronoun deletion in No like ( I
don t like it ) is a feature of many ethnolects (Greek, Aboriginal English), and is differing from the
Standard, yet still helps to get the message across. Ethnolects develop from Standard English, and
helps to express a user s identity through their language use and in group solidarity within the
speech community.
There are a range of English varieties which are different from the Standard, developed from
communities of speakers all sharing the same use of language. Aboriginal English, a dialect of
Australian English, remains a lingua franca for their speakers, used as a common language to
communicate between tribes for mutual

The People Over Weight And Obese
In today society the majority of people are over weight. The USA is considered to have the most
people over weight and obese. So what is wrong with our system of eating ? Why are other
countries considered to be healthier then the US. Part of the reason is the way we where
brought up. And another reason is the the foods we are given at easy access. But that isn t to say
the stores don t play a role in the way that you shop. So what could be a solution to living a
healthier life style. Being healthy is a lot more then being lean, its about being smart enough to
not letting the stores trick you into buying what they want you to buy, and rather what you need
to buy. When you walk into the store to buy milk, bread, meat, and produce. You ll notice that all
those things tend to be at the back of the store. They are forcing you to walk through the middle
ails where all the unnecessary things they want you to buy are located. So by the time you ve
reached the back of the store you have 5 10 items that you didn t intend to buy. Another example
is placement on the shelves. The majority of people are right handed so they will make more right
turns and as they turn to the right with the cart they place things at eye level to the right so it will
catch your eye. Another tactic is since many countries in the world read left to right they place the
higher marked items on the left in hope you ll buy the more expensive product before getting to the
cheaper alternative on the right.

What s That Smell In The Kitchen
What s That Smell in the Kitchen Have you ever hated doing the same thing every day? Marge
Piercy is an American novelist, essayist, and poet. Marge Piercy was born March 31, 1936, in
Detroit at this time America was in a great depression. Her poems are inspired by her mother
who was emotional and imaginative, her mother later died in 1985. In the poem What s That
Smell in the Kitchen the author show us the way women are sometimes held in low regards by
men through the eyes of a tired housewife who does the same thing every day. In this poem,
women are tired and outraged of the limits of their occupation. The poem shows this by the tone
of the first line women are burning . This shows that women all over America are fed up and
angry for being stuck at the house. I believe that burning gives a negative connotation. So when I
hear burning this makes me think that the person is angered and outraged. These women are
outraged because they are limited to only housework. The poem also states that she says, once I

Men face many health risks as they age. It is important for men to have regular check ups with their

male reproductive gland that produces the fluid that carries sperm during ejaculation. It surrounds
the urethra, the tube through which urine passes out of the body. As men age, past the age of fifty,
it is common for the prostate to become enlarged, a condition known as BPH. BPH stands for

obviously show how they are older than the Early Classical statues because they resemble Egyptian

Strong Women In A Tale Of Two Cities
The Strong Women of A Tale of Two Cities
A strong woman is a woman determined to do something others are determined not be done
(Piercy). The women in A Tale of Two Cities show this rare type of strength just being who they
are. The author, Charles Dickens, creates them as individuals who break barriers with their
masculine behavior. Each, in effect of their special qualities, are determined in all they do.
Madame Defarge, is a sinister middle aged woman who strikes fear in all from her keen brute. But
due to this uncivilized aggression, she becomes a key figure in the choreography of the French
Revolution in the book. Miss Pross is Lucie s house maiden, and is closer to her than anyone else.

primal and eventful interaction she shoves him against a wall savagely to get him away from

addition, Mr. Lorry associates Miss Pross with stocky and unsophisticated qualities when he
describes how she puts a, brawny hand , on Mr. Lorry s chest (Dickens 30). As the plot
progresses, she is generally not in any important events in the story not until the end. In Book
the Third, Chapter 14, Madame Defarge and Miss Pross have a duel. Madame wants to confront
Lucie, but Pross will not let the enemy pass. She is trying to buy as much time to hide the secret
that her friends have fled France. The dedication to protect her family led to an actual fight where
Miss Pross, ...held [Madame Defarge] around the waist and clung to her with more than the hold
of a drowning woman... and moments later Pross had killed the madame with a gun(Dickens 365).
The fact that she stopped this sinister threat that was Madame Defarge was a momentous event for
her. If Pross had not have completed that task, Lucie and her fleeing family could have been
captured and killed. Her raucous extroversion that is manifestly masculine led her to be influential

Creating a Designer Baby
One need not be deeply religious or oppose abortion to be troubled by the prospect of a society in
which, as bioethicist Alexander Capron puts it, The wanted child becomes the made to order

Marie Antoinette Dbq
Many people may argue that Marie Antoinette was the biggest factor for why France fell into a
revolutionary state, however, Marie Antoinette was a queen victimized and forced to play role
from a young age to satisfy the French people who disapproved. Marie Antoinette was falsely

However Ruth wouldn t go out without a fight. Ruth placed a curse on the Red Sox for trading

On December 26, 1919, Babe Ruth was traded to the Yankees. Several reasons such as Babe s

Kmart started off as a discount retailer successfully pioneering the same concept as that of F. W.

offering a one stop shopping center that fulfilled everyone s needs. As new niches began to emerge

Qualities Of Modern Architecture
Modern architecture was produced during a period of transformation broadly categorized as
modernity. Modernity should not be equipped with the social, political, economic, and
technological transformation which began in the seventeenth century and continued well into the
twentieth century. Rather, it must be understood at the attitudes towards whose changes. Modernity
has been variously described as: a slow transformation and re evaluation of our relationship with the
past; a complete break from the past; a celebration of the chaos brought about by technological
changes in industry, transportation and communication; a loss of tradition and home; a project of
modernization and progress towards a better world; and a permanent state of transformation and
change. Modern architectureis defined as a term used to describe simplified and unornamented
building styles of the late 19th and 20th century, as a reaction towards the design of excesses to
the design excesses of the Victorian and Edwardian period. Qualities of this style consist of being
inspired by the machine aesthetics. In other words letting the materials and structuring help
determine the form and define the building according to its functional requirements and materials
to be used. Clean and simplified forms were preferred and all unnecessary details were banished.
An example of modern architecture can be explained and seen by Zaha Hadid s VitraFire Station
built in 1990. Constructed as a closure at the end of a

Video Number Three Presentations From Baroness Glenys...
Video number three featured three presentations from Baroness Glenys Thornton, Clifford Harding,
and Henry Bonsu. All three of these presentations involved the different perspectives that can take
place in education, particularly in Great Britain and how these minority groups are currently viewed
as inferior within Great Britain.
Baroness Glenys Thornton took a larger sociological approach toward the underrepresentation of
minorities. Her presentation was based on the diversity of the members of the British parliament as
well as the diversity of the other portions of the British government. She stated that minority groups
are underrepresented by a margin of about three percent of the current population in the British
parliament.
Clifford Harding took a more individualized approach to this issue. Clifford didn t really grow up
in the best living conditions, and he was involved in some questionable things such as drugs. He
said that was often told that he was dumb and stupid when he was in school (mainly due to the fact
that he was dyslexic) and that it would be safe to say that these taunts would discourage many
people from continuing their education if they were faced with these messages.
Henry Bonsu added onto Clifford Harding s message in his presentation. Bonsu s message was
that we all have the ability to do anything we want to in schools. The only reason that we feel as if
we won t do well is that we think we won t do well. As soon as we gain confidence and ignore

Undeterred by oddities and abhorrence generated from within and outside, the railways has

and a hazardous and dangerous venture . Karl Marx wrote: I known that the English sultocracy
intends to endow India with the railways with the exclusive view of extracting at diminished
expense the cotton and other raw materials for their manufacturers. However, the railways were
also regarded as a preventive measure against famines and the only affordable means of transport

Your phone number should be the contact number where you are most available. Whether this

In mid 2005, investigators were made aware of serious security breaches experienced in TJX s

Also, in 2007 it was revealed that TJX stored both credit card numbers and expiration date
information together in its system.
ISSUES
Non Compliance: WPA was required by PCI DSS, storing credit card numbers and expiration date
information violated standards as well
Reporting: Never acknowledged any of this in financial statements/reports
RESPONSE
CIO decided to run risk of being compromised by sticking with outdated technology (WEP)
LIABILITY/RESPONSIBILITY: One of the key issues is who should be held liable for the
breaches? With so many parties involved in the credit card payment process, it s difficult to define
a certain group solely responsible.
ISSUE
Lack of Legal Standards: no existing laws stating who should bear burden
RESPONSE
Issues were to be handled legislatively, but process is long and drawn out
Technology evolving faster than legislation
INCENTIVES/CONSUMER BEHAVIOR: Consumers were seemingly unaware of data breaching
technology being implemented.
ISSUE
Lack of awareness: difficult for stores to charge higher prices in order to provide better security
(customers showed no change in preferences)
SOLUTION
Played a role in TJX opting not to abide by certain PCI DSS standards as sales continued to grow
despite these breaches.
Looking at recommendations I would make, it s important that management first recognize the
function of cybersecurity in their overall business structure. They must maintain ongoing
interactions

How did Ada Lovelace influence literature? Well, for starters, she was very good at writing. Her

quickly execute the command of the ghost:
Eliot s unhappy judgments are worth considering here, if only because they are based on an
intuition of Shakespeare s creative process that is so near to and yet so far from the one
presupposed in the present essay. He imagines Shakespeare grappling with his archaic sources in the
attempt to naturalize, rationalize, and psychologize generally speaking, to streamline and

The play begins with the changing of the sentinels on a guard platform of the castle of Elsinore in
Denmark. Recently the spectral likeness of dead King Hamlet has appeared to the sentinels.
Tonight the ghost appears again to Barnardo, Marcellus and Horatio, a very close friend of
Hamlet. Horatio and Marcellus exit the ramparts of Elsinore intending to enlist the aid of Hamlet,
who is home from school, dejected by the o erhasty marriage of his mother to his uncle less than
two months after the funeral of Hamlet s father (Gordon 128). There is a post coronation social
gathering of the court, where Claudius pays tribute to the memory of his deceased brother, the
former king, and then, along with Queen Gertrude, conducts some items of business, for example
dispatching Cornelius and Voltemand to Norway to settle the Fortinbras affair, addressing
Polonius and Laertes on the subject of the latter s return to school abroad. Right at the outset of
the drama, there is irony exhibited in the manner in which Shakespeare characterizes King
Claudius he is simply stupendous and yet, shortly hereafter, he is revealed as a truly evil,
thoroughly diabolical sort. George Lyman Kittredge, in his book, Five Plays of Shakespeare,
describes the Bard s excellent characterization of Claudius:

External Environment Analysis
There are three external environment components which may impact on restaurant, demographic,
Technological and Economic environment.
Demographic Environment
The purpose of the scanning the social, demographic and culture is to determine the significance of
population changes on the nature of population and customer purchase behaviour. (Reed 2007)
Obviously, population change brings huge impact to product lines and service model. Currently,

Characteristics Of Japan, Korea And China
Japan, Korea, and China uphold a certain notoriety that categorizes them as one distinctive idea of
Asia. Despite the fact that each of these countries heavily contribute to the political, societal, and
cultural aspects of Eastern civilization, the individual characteristics of Japan, Korea, and China
highlight their vast variation. The parallels between these three countries derive from pre modern
Chinese customs that heavily influenced Japan and Korea, ultimately impacting their linguistic and
intellectual technicalities. As a result, many Japanese and Korean societal aspects greatly
resembled those found in Chinese culture, primarily by virtue of proximity. Alliances and various
forms of trade between Chinaand its neighbors subsequently developed, thus contributing to the
Chinese influence; however, these actions, while promoting cultural unity, failed to entirely
dominate the distinctive aspects of both Japan and Korea. Both countries have since upheld their
own idiosyncrasies that further classify them as individual nations. Pre modern Chinese lifestyle
substantially impacted Japan and Korean culture through nearby affiliations; regardless, both
countries managed to maintain their own political organizations, social structures, and cultural
traditions. An ultimate goal for any country or civilizationrevolves around the idea of establishing a
coherent, yet diverse political system. However, many challenges arise around the fact that certain
aspects of any government

The Awakening as an Allegory of Existentialism Essay
The Awakening as an Allegory of Existentialism
Kate Chopin s The Awakening as the title suggests is just that‹the story of a young woman s
awakening to life. Even though it is a work of fiction, the character of Edna undergoes such a
radical change one cannot ignore the psychological depth of the work. The story could almost be
seen as a case study. In order to analyze the work psychologically, it is important to decide which
psychological framework to use. I chose the critic Cynthia Wolffwho uses a Freudian framework
for analysis. Wolff feels that Edna s problems are a result of oral conflicts, while I see the work as
more of an allegory of existentialism, and Edna s problems are a result of a lack of Being. ... Show

Most people pass through this stage without any conflict, and this allows them to move on to the
formation of a more complex self.
Wolff believes that Edna s central problem once the hidden self begins to exert its inexorable
power, is that her libidinal appetite has been fixated at the oral level (Wolff 232), meaning that
on some level she has begun to move beyond the oral stage. The first evidence we have of this is
when she kisses Arobin. This is an act of fulfillment on the genital level. Edna has recognized her
libidinal needs, but this does not seem to give her the satisfaction she craves. This longing is not
a desire for a particular man, but the presence of the beloved (Wolff 233). She recognizes an
emptiness within her and like anyone else has a strong need to fill it.
Edna tries to satisfy this new sensation of emptiness, but she is not sure what it is that needs to
be satisfied. There is a void that has begun to open up in her life, and she tries several ways of
filling it. She attempts to go back to painting, she moves out of her house and even has an affair.
Her painting is still an attempt at internalizing the world around her: Edna s painting might offer
her an excellent and viable mode for coming to terms with the insistent demands of cosmic
yearning. For one thing, it utilizes in an effective way her habit of

  • 2. Mrs Sowerberry s Influence On The Character Of Dr Fagin Noah Claypole is the perfect example of how environment can corrupt children : he is an apprentice of Mr. Sowerberry and was often ridiculed by other boys. As a result he started bullying others too, and it is no surprise that he later joins Fagin. Among the young female characters, Nancy would be the counterpart to Rose. She too have been corrupted by Faginwho drove her into prostitution. But unlike the Artful Dodger, she kept a sense of what is good and bad : even this degraded being felt too proud to betray a feeble gleam of the womanly feeling which she thought a weakness, but which alone connected her with that humanity, of which her wasting life had obliterated so many, many traces when a very child. Dickens seems to imply that there... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This novel is indeed quite a political statement : children characters are shown unfit for a harsh environment and the only outcome for them is to die at a young age, like Dick or Nancy. Dickens is thus arguing that the Original Sin is a belief that belongs to the past, and that children should be protected from misery, labour and mistreatment. However, Oliver doesn t die and his inherent goodness and innocence seem to remain uncorrupted by the people he encounters and the course of events. Dickens may have made a symbol out of Oliver, the ideal of the Romantic child if kept from corruption. Oliver is what the other misfortunate children of the novel could have been. He is what they should have been : good, innocent and pious. Oliver twist was a popular novel among the middle class at the time it was published : although Victorian poor children were exploited in factories, mine and workhouses, literary Victorians who were mostly middle class had a certain affection for orphans and pauper children. Dickens specifically targeted his middle class audience to trigger its compassion for unfortunate children beyond literature, thats is to say into reality. It is no coincidence that Maylie and Rose, two middle class characters, realize that Oliver doesn t have the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Badrinath was literally the whole reason we went on this trip. It was known as one of the most holiest, and sacred places to be at. We arrived there later in the Afternoon. After we checked into our hotel, we went and explored the city. And while exploring the city we saw many beautiful temples, and all these lead us to the main temple, the Badrinath Temple. We had to cross over a small walking bridge which went over the Alaknandha River, It went with such force, and if you sit in that water nonstop for more than ten fifteen minutes, you will surely have a heart failure, because the water is that cold, and we are at an extreme altitude. And the most Ironic thing about this cold river is after we crossed it we have to bathe before we enter the temple, even if we had bathed in the morning. When we went to the place we were supposed to bathe, we came to find out that it was a hot spring and this hot spring was ten feet away from the extremely cold Alaknanda waters, ironic enough, I thought so. After we finished bathing there was a ritual which we had to perform. We had to get into brand new clothes and we had to give the clothes were wearing to the more unfortunate people. So after we did that, we went into the main temple, it was enriched with beautiful colors and sculptures all made since the time the temple was created. While there are a number of other rare violins and instruments of different kinds, not even one has ever came remarkably close to achieving what Antonio Stradivari has with the making of his stringed instruments, in particular, his violins. Over the years there have been many attempts to reproduce the authentic sound quality of his instruments, but no one has ever been able to achieve this goal. What exactly makes the Stradivarius violinso unique? The materials used to make the instrument along with his method of construction and the time period in which it was constructed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stradivari was actually well in touch with the results of other impressive instruments that had been constructed before his. He was able to gain experience by comparing the many instruments built by the early Brescian and Cremonese makers by deducing from them the aspects that made them unfavorable and applying these aspects to his own creative works. Every generation has contributed something to the construction of musical instruments, and Stradivari combined these centuries of contributions to create something astounding that opened up a new chapter in history. While it is a known fact that Stradivari got a lot of inspiration from previous violinmakers (Visconti, who is a well known violinist, is said to have given advice to this master of violin construction), people insist that he was a natural born genius, so much so that he has been claimed to be a superhuman . Based on scientific principles, many different works have been written based on the unsurpassed tonal qualities found in his instruments. However, there has also been a daily study of Stradivari s works that were compared to those of the craftsmen who came before him. When put to the test it was found that the density of the bellies and backs of Stradivari s instruments were made based on the principles of Gasparo, in addition to the result of a gradual progression, which Maggini and Amatis had in common with him. Those who have examined his work have noted that Stradivari adjusted the thickness of his instruments, but there is no indication that he used any principles as a guide other than what has been derived from the practices of his forerunners. And another reason is the the foods we are given at easy access. But that isn t to say the stores don t play a role in the way that you shop. So what could be a solution to living a healthier life style. Being healthy is a lot more then being lean, its about being smart enough to not letting the stores trick you into buying what they want you to buy, and rather what you need to buy. Baroness Glenys Thornton took a larger sociological approach toward the underrepresentation of minorities. Her presentation was based on the diversity of the members of the British parliament as well as the diversity of the other portions of the British government. As a result, many Japanese and Korean societal aspects greatly resembled those found in Chinese culture, primarily by virtue of proximity. Alliances and various forms of trade between Chinaand its neighbors subsequently developed, thus contributing to the Chinese influence; however, these actions, while promoting cultural unity, failed to entirely dominate the distinctive aspects of both Japan and Korea. The Awakening as an Allegory of Existentialism Essay The Awakening as an Allegory of Existentialism Kate Chopin s The Awakening as the title suggests is just that‹the story of a young woman s awakening to life. Even though it is a work of fiction, the character of Edna undergoes such a radical change one cannot ignore the psychological depth of the work. The story could almost be seen as a case study. In order to analyze the work psychologically, it is important to decide which psychological framework to use. I chose the critic Cynthia Wolffwho uses a Freudian framework for analysis. Wolff feels that Edna s problems are a result of oral conflicts, while I see the work as more of an allegory of existentialism, and Edna s problems are a result of a lack of Being. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most people pass through this stage without any conflict, and this allows them to move on to the formation of a more complex self. Wolff believes that Edna s central problem once the hidden self begins to exert its inexorable power, is that her libidinal appetite has been fixated at the oral level (Wolff 232), meaning that on some level she has begun to move beyond the oral stage. The first evidence we have of this is when she kisses Arobin. This is an act of fulfillment on the genital level. Edna has recognized her libidinal needs, but this does not seem to give her the satisfaction she craves. This longing is not a desire for a particular man, but the presence of the beloved (Wolff 233). She recognizes an emptiness within her and like anyone else has a strong need to fill it. Edna tries to satisfy this new sensation of emptiness, but she is not sure what it is that needs to be satisfied.
