Me Knife Diamond And Flower Analysis
A piece of art I really liked at the El Paso Art Museum was Me, Knife, Diamond and Flower created
by James Surles in 1999. This piece is three dimensional and made out of pine, poplar and fabricated
stainless steel. The first thing I noticed was the big knife so immediately I was drawn to go see what it
was all about. I found it be very expressive because it definitely made me feel a little creeped out that
there was a knife, leaving me to wonder if this was about a murder, or trying to tell a story of some
kind. The woodcut flower and knife I think was a great touch to the piece so it differentiates them
from the diamond and the face. The composition of this art piece shows depth with the face and
diamond up front, to the knife behind it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was another three dimensional piece of work that caught my eye, but not for its beauty. This
piece stood out because it was hideous and dull. The first thought that came into my mind was what
the hell is that? I am not too sure if this it was supposed to be a witch s hat or a limbless and leafless
tree but is ugly. This piece had a lot of texture ranging from very smooth looking to extremely bumpy
which I did not feel was appealing whatsoever. It looked like someone just starting hitting it from to
create dimples. There was no real pattern, repetition or rhythm to the texture. The higher you looked
up on the piece, the more texture that appeared in the surface. The bottom of the sculpture had a lot
more smoother and finer texture to it. I saw this piece just shortly after I saw Me, Knife, Diamond and
Flower which really had my mind stimulated in a positive manner and then I stumbled across this
piece which changed my mood almost instantly. I was sad to see such an emotionless piece right after
seeing James Surles and I felt like I wasted time in my life just staring at it. I decided to Google what
Rolo meant and in Latin America it means stick. In no shape or form do I see a stick in the artwork. I
would assume that it is not supposed to portray a stick and am left to wonder what it could. Is it
supposed to represent something? Is it symbolic? I can honestly not tell you for sure as there is little

Conclusion:
In the experiment, I set up the 24 plate well, and added each solution one by one while keeping track
of which liquid was in which well. I lit my burner with matches and started assembling my make shift
cotton toothpicks. My Q tips were plastic, so I (with gloved hands) ripped the cotton off the swab and
wrapped it around a toothpick. I then proceeded to dip the cotton in and wait a second or two before
waving it through the flame.
I noticed the color change with the sodium immediately, but with the others it took a bit longer. I
repeated the process with each liquid three times just to be sure. Especially with the Potassium, as it
was very difficult for me to discern the color change. I tried to eliminate any major errors by taking
my time and redoing the experiment a few times, but I did spill a bit of the liquid as a cut the pipets
open. Also, my swabs may have been previously contaminated by the salt on our skin due to frequent
use.

The Characteristics Of Early Islamic Art And Early...
Early Christian art had a rough start. It started off not being wanted because it worshiped idols and
that was frowned upon in the early days. Although, as time went on and Christians started realizing the
benefits that art had at conveying their beliefs. The earliest Christian art occurred in the catacombs,
which were underground tombs under the city and they often depicted biblical symbols like Noah s
ark. Architecture also grew during this time, as people got more accepting of this culture things started
picking up. Art became in demand and so did architecture. Before the spike happened, early Christians
didn t have any designated places to worship and as soon as it became more accepted that changed.
Early Christian churches often mimicked roman work because it was so successful. An example of
this was Old St. Peter. Architecture and art weren t the only thing early Christians used to push
Christianity into the mainstream, music also played a role in the development Christianity. Early
Christian music prohibited instrumental accompaniment of any kind (Benton and Diyannni 185). This
was mainly because it wasn t considered religious it was considered un religious. As time progressed
this was eventually overturned. Early Christian music often used harps as a background for the
scriptures.
Islamic art is very different characteristics than early Christian art. The main difference is the location.
Early Christian art started in one place Jerusalem, but Islamic art came from

Employment Tribunal Essay example
Analysis of Employment Tribunals: Is It Fit for Purpose?
Employment tribunals were established under the Industrial Training Act 1964. They were previously
referred to as Industrial Tribunals, but their name was changed by s1 of the Employment Rights
(Dispute Resolution) Act 1998, which took effect on 1 August 1998 (J.Nairns,2011,p.6). Now, HM
Courts Tribunals Service which is an executive agency of the Ministry of Justice, supervise
employment tribunals. Employment tribunals are constituted on the basis of region. In England and
Wales, there are 11 regional offices of the Employment Tribunals(ROETs). There is Regional Office in
each region ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it can hear almost every employment law matter since its jurisdiction increased. Before
1994, Employment Tribunals could only hear statutory claims while after the Employment Tribunals
Extension of Jurisdiction (England and Wales) Order 1994, Employment Tribunals role has drastically
changed that they can now hear common law claims(Richard Kinder,1999). But there are some law
matters of common law they cannot cope with like matters relating to moral tights and copyright,
patents, designs rights, trade marks; breach of restraint of trade covenants; breach of confidence;
breach of a contract terms requiring the employer to provide for the employee; personnel injury
claims. From this regard, certain employment matters still have to be tackled in the civil courts. Since
judges and solicitors don t need to wear wigs at employment tribunals, cases needn t to be open to
public under some circumstances and employment tribunals meant to be cheap, speedy and informal,
but they are not informal, actually, they are becoming increasingly legalistic. As the complexity and
magnitude of employment law keeps increasing, the workload of employment tribunals increases,
lawyers are now needed, thus the employment tribunals are no longer as cheap and informal as before.
As to informality, anyone going to an employment tribunal expecting a cosy chat can think again,
despite the injunction in the regulation that tribunals should seek to avoid

Guinea Pig Cage Analysis
How To Clean Your Guinea Pig s Cage Do you own guinea pigs? If you do or are going to, then you

from cage. You should then take the litter box outside. Dump all contents into the dump. Wipe down
the litter box and lay a thick layer of newspaper in the litter box. Dump a couple handfuls of pine

Emily Grierson s Time
Time Does Not Stand Still Miss Emily Grierson was a proper lady of Jefferson. Unfortunately for her,
she came to live in a time when being a proper lady was no longer what was expected. She avoided
any sort of change coming to her life, and because of it, the world moved on without her. The story
takes place in the South, as is illustrated a few times throughout the story. It took place some time
between the 1860 s and the 1930 s, which illustrates the source of some problems for Miss Emily. That
was just after the civil war, and that was a period of great change for the South. Not only did the South
have to quickly extinguish slavery, it changed from agriculture to factories with almost the same pace.
Most of the people in Jefferson had someone to go through these changes with, but Emily did not.
Clearly her father was wealthy. He would have owned a fair amount of slaves, one of whom was

Before, she had not had anyone to help her through the change, but now she did not have anyone at
all. There was no one to remind her of the passage of time. The only one who might have done this
was Tobe, and as he was a Negro, he did not count in her mind. Homer probably helped her to accept
the fact that time was moving, yet as she was beginning to adjust, beginning to move with time again,
she lost him. He threatened to leave her, so she trapped him in time with her. William Faulkner grew
up in the South, which had a definite influence on his writing. Born in 1897, he was too young to have
watched slavery die, and yet he knew many of those who had. A Rose for Emily could easily have had
its beginnings in someone he knew through childhood. After all, he watched those around him fall into
poverty because their wealth was based on their human property. Once they lost that, they lost their
fortune as well. It must have been easy for William Faulkner to picture them losing their mind as

U.S. Airways Flight 1549 Accident Essay
U.S. Airways Flight 1549 Accident: Flight Accident: The above mentioned airplane was a planned
commercial passenger flight that took off from LaGuardia Airport, New York destined for Charlotte
Douglas Airport in North Carolina on January 15, 2009. Six minutes after takeoff, the airplane was
successfully abandoned in Hudson River after striking multiple birds during its initial climb out. The
crew reported by radio two minutes after takeoff at an altitude of 3,200 feet, the Airbus experienced
multiple bird strikes. The result of this multiple bird strikes, which occurred in northeast of George

After successfully ditching the plane in mid river, the aircrew began to evacuate the 150 passengers
immediately. While some passengers were evacuated through the four mid cabin emergency window
exits, others were evacuated through the front right passenger door. The rescue efforts involving local
ferries and tugs began almost immediately with some passengers standing on the wings of the floating
plane while others entered life rafts. In addition to these local ferries and tugs, police helicopters,
rescue divers and Coast Guard vessels among others joined the rescue efforts. Notably, other
organizations provided about thirty other ambulances including various hospital based ambulances.
Medical help was also provided by various agencies on the Weehawken side of the river. These rescue
and recovery efforts led to the safe evacuation of all the passengers as well as the flight crew. While
seventy eight people were treated for minor injuries and hypothermia, the two broken legs of one
woman, a fight attendant, was the only major injury. While some patients were treated in triage
facilities, about twenty four passengers and two rescue personnel were cared for in hospitals. The
aftermath of the accident led to the plane being anchored to a pier near the World Financial Center in
order to stop it from floating out

African Trypanosomiasis (Sleeping Sickness) Introduction: African Trypanosomiasis also known as
African sleeping sickness is a devastating zoonotic disease caused by a protozoan subspecies of

herbert hoover and his role in the great depression Essay
Herbert Hoover and His Role in The Great Depression
With the continually worsening conditions, and the stock market crash on Black Tuesday, October 29,
1929, the United States was thrown into the biggest economical disaster of our history. Everyone,
excluding the rich upper class, became poor and most unemployed. The majority of the American
populace found themselves living in shantytowns or Hoovervilles as they later became to be known,
which consisted of many cramped shacks constructed from whatever was available. This meant old
burnt out cars, cardboard boxes, random pieces of lumber, and anything else that people could find.
Times truly were tough. It was a daily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the public work programs, Hoover provided unemployed Americans with many different jobs in
order to create some sort of income. The most famous of these programs was the Boulder Dam, which
will be talked about later. Throughout the entire depression, Hoover stood on his belief of a hands off
government until late in his presidency. Under pressure from Americans and his fellow politicians,
President Hoover eventually gave in and signed an act granting money and/or food to areas in dire
need. That was the extent of his direct relief.
As previously mentioned, the Boulder Dam was one of the most famous, and certainly most expensive
(with the whole project costing about $385 million) public works program. To provide jobs and much
needed money to unemployed Americans, the Bureau of Reclamation, under President Hoover,
authorized the Boulder Canyon Project on the Colorado River in 1928. The entire project included a
hydroelectric power plant and a reservoir to control floods of the Colorado River and supply power to
the Pacific Southwest. The dam reservoir is Lake Mead, which can store approximately 28 million
acre feet of water, making it one of the world s largest artificially created bodies of water. Besides
providing many jobs, the project responsible for the officially named Hoover Dam (as of 1947), added
about 3 million acres of national parks and monuments and expanded

Total trade for 2009 amounted to $1,033 billion, 61% of which was with EU 27 countries. The nation
s government economic policy is to promote investment and domestic growth in a stable fiscal and
monetary environment. Its top priority is to create jobs and reduce the high unemployment rate. The
unemployment rate in metropolitan France increased to 9.5% in the first quarter of 2010, up from
9.2% in the third quarter of 2009. The government s fiscal and monetary environment definitely is in
goodwill of any business to be set up. The government continues to control a large share of economic
activity: Government spending, at 55.6% of GDP in 2009, is among the highest in the G 7. The
government continues to own shares in corporations in a range of sectors, including banking, energy
production and distribution, automobiles, transportation, and telecommunications. France has been

What Role Does The Satan Play In The Canterbury Tales
In Medieval Literature Satan was often used as a character. There was also more evidence during this
period of time. They were not that obvious unlike others but they were there for sure. They were often
symbolized in a certain character s and personalities that they had throughout the Prologue. The
characters were really relatable to the characteristics of Satan himself. Satan played a big role in The
Canterbury Tales with the Parson, Pardoner, and Summoned. IN the Prologue of The Canterbury
Tales, the Summoner is immediately characterized as Satan. He is described as red face with big
whelks which are pimples just used in another term back then. In the book Chaucer says, There was a
Summoner with us in the place who had a fire red cherubinnish face (Chaucer line 642). Not only that
but he drinks and when he does , he doesn t care what is going on around him, According to the text it
says, And drinking strong wine till all was hazy , then he would shout and jabber as if he s crazy

The Natural Hazards Of Earthquakes
The Natural Hazard
Earthquakes as a natural hazard have occurred way too often, so now we understand them perfectly.
The intensity or magnitude of earthquakes are measured by a seismograph. It is measured using the
Richter scale. Earthquakes with magnitudes lower than 03 are hardly noticeable but those that are 07
or above tend to cause major damages to the human settlements. Time and again through history, there
have been incidents of earthquakes destroying towns and cities. One such historic earthquake was the
infamous 1906 San Francisco Earthquake. Earthquakes usually cause the shaking and displacement of
the land which causes buildings to fall down and cause casualties. If close to the ocean, they might
even cause tsunamis. The science of an earthquake is such that the tectonic plates under the ground
cause strain and they move, causing earthquakes. Earthquakes usually occur naturally but in some rare
cases they might even be a result of human activities (Daily, 2017). Some earthquakes are also caused
by volcanic activity, landslides or even events such as mine blasts and nuclear experiments.
Earthquakes can be caused by volcanic activity, tectonic plates activity or even explosions. The one
that occurred in San Francisco was a result of tectonic plate activity and most of the destruction was
caused after the earthquake finished. This earthquake occurred in different forms, first there was the
foreshock which was actually a small earthquake that occurs at the beginning

The Trade Organization ( Wto )
The WTO Each country has their own legal framework for internal trade. Goods that we use everyday,
have levels as made in China or Thailand or somewhere on this globe, so how do they end up in
America? This has been made possible through the WTO. The World Trade Organization (WTO) is
the main institute which manages the international trade. It is created to reduce trade barriers across
international borders to contribute to economic growth and development. It s main purpose is to
increase the well being and standards of living of the citizens. It is mainly conducted by WTO
agreements. The WTO has law and regulation for implementation and monitoring the agreements

The Pros And Cons Of Pollution
Pollution is a serious global issue that has been occurring for as long as humans have inhabited the
planet. There are many different varieties of pollution, as well as an abundance of materials, both
natural and synthetic, that the earth has been contaiminated with. Shifrin ( 2005), states: To date,
wastes remain a fact of life and there are only three places to dispose of wastes air, water, or land.
Waste management always involves tradeoffs. (p. 676). Even though Shifrin is correct in his analysis,
it does not excuse the amount of environmental poison that continues to exist today, nor the amount of
environmental problems that it has caused throughout history. The tradeoffs of pollution have
devastated entire communities, causing waves of sickness and death in their wake. According to
Shifrin (2005): Water borne contagious disease still caused devastating epidemics in the early 1900s,
compounded by growing, congested populations. Air pollution also grew to a high priority by
midcentury because its impact was so observable and immediate. (p. 676). Generally, these diseases
were spread through poor sanitary practices as well as the overwhelming volume of pollution that was
generated by so many indivduals with little knowledge about what the adverse effects on the overall
environment would be.

In Vitro-Farming Pros And Cons
With global meat production having tripled in the last three decades and estimated to double current
levels by 2050, the practice of factory farming is an increasingly urgent problem for the environment,
human health, and nonhuman animals (Hyner). As the factory farming of meat will continue to
increase due to the increasing per capita global meat consumption and population growth, other
options must be considered so further harm done by the industry may be prevented. In vitro meat
production is a strong, sustainable alternative to factory farming, because it requires less resources, it
is more beneficial to environmental health and human health, and avoids ethical issue found in
traditional animal husbandry. Factory farming creates an enormous volume of meat for consumption,

through in vitro meat, those could be extracted and replaced with healthy Omega 3 fatty acids. In the
production of conventional meat, most of the protein fed to livestock is lost due to the metabolism of
the animal, but there would be not loss in protein through the cultivating and growth of stem cells
(Pluhar, 464). In vitro meat greatly reduces animal suffering normally caused by conventional farming
practices, and with the controlled cell growth environment, it is more reliable than animals, which
may get stressed, sick, and injured, which can then ruin the meat and decrease profits. Furthermore, it
takes less time to culture the meat and takes several weeks instead of months or years for the meat to
grow and then be harvested (Bhat et al.

Psychodynamic Hypothesis In Social Work
Psychodynamic hypothesis, a hypothesis of identity started by Sigmund Freud (writing between the
1890s and the 1930s), has a long and complex history in social work. The youthful calling s want for a
logical base, Mary Richmond s decision on a therapeutic model to survey and treat customer issues,
and the wide effect of Freud s thoughts on the pop culture, added to the most noticeable part of
psychodynamic thought in the hypothesis base of social work (Germain, 1970; Greene and Ephross,
1991). The hypothesis supporting psychodynamic therapy began in and is educated by psychoanalytic
hypothesis. There are four noteworthy schools of psychoanalytic hypothesis, each of which has
affected psychodynamic therapy. The four schools are: Freudian, Ego Psychology, Object Relations,
and Self Psychology. Freudian brain science depends on the hypotheses initially figured by Sigmund
Freud in the early piece of this century and is some of the time alluded to as the drive or auxiliary
model. The substance of Freud s hypothesis is that sexual and forceful energies starting in the id (or
oblivious) are regulated by the personality, which is an arrangement of capacities that conservatives
between the id and outer reality. Barrier components are developments of the sense of self that work to
limit torment and to keep up the mystic balance. The superego, shaped amid inertness (between age 5
and adolescence), works to control id drives through blame (Messer and Warren, 1995). Sense of self

Dr. Steward s Priority Problems With Impaired Cardiac...
Focused Assessments and Priorities Mr. Steward s priority problems include impaired cardiac tissue
perfusion, impaired gas exchange, and pain. We are concerned about impaired cardiac tissue perfusion
because the pt. is exhibiting signs of myocardial ischemia including chest pain and shortness of breath
(Gillespie, 2012). Although we acknowledge that impaired cardiac tissue perfusion can decrease the
function of the heart and will have the potential to affect the perfusion and delivery of oxygen to other
end organs, our primary focus will be a focused cardiovascular assessment (House Kokan, 2012). At
1800, Mr. Steward was SOB, had shallow and rapid breathing (RR = 44), and a SaO2 of 72% on RA.
Due to the fluid buildup in his lungs, Mr. Steward has impaired gas exchange, and requires
supplemental oxygen to maintain his SaO2; this warrants a focused respiratory assessment. Mr.
Steward was pain free until this morning. He initially complained of right sided chest pain and then
complained about pain in his hip and ankle. We recognized this was a new onset of pain that persisted,
despite giving him some pain medication. When Mr. Steward was discovered in his room clutching his
chest, we recognized this as a non verbal sign of pain and asked him whether he was having chest
pain. Although Mr. Steward doesn t provide a definitive answer, he displayed non verbal signs of pain,
such as restlessness, frequent shifting in bed, and act of clutching his chest. Recognizing Mr.

High Renaissance Painting In Florence And Environs,...
High Renaissance Painting in Florence and environs, 1490 1550
Learning about the art history in general during the Renaissance period makes anyone s interpretation
towards art change to the better. You become aware, of the color harmonization s, and reason behind
each detail drawn in a portrait or made in a sculpture. Symmetry, geometry and color coordination
were revolutionized in portraits and paintings by famous artist like Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo,
and Raphael which is momentous. These three individuals played an enormous role during the
Renaissance with their artistic work. The west building, known as the edifice had a roman traditional
classical style, but built with modern technology, thus to catch the visitors attention ... Show more

Most of the portraits were rectangular or square shaped. As a visitor, you would assume that the
paintings and each of the portrait frames are together taken to be displayed, but that was not the case.
The frames are from the gallery itself, which surprised many people on why and how this occurred. It
would have been more remarkable if the frames were from Florence as well. The frames were not
meant to overpower the portraits, but to enhance them. It was strange how all the frames of the
portraits were gold. Is because the Renaissance was considered as a golden age, so the frame could
enhance each portrait as so? Gallery room 20 was based on Raphael s painting, and that is why there
was one small writing on the wall that had a small description of Raphael and the High Renaissance.
Room arrangements at the gallery was very confusing. The fact that each room has one or two
doorways that leads you to another room in a circular motion was very misleading. If the setup was
more like rooms next to each other, it could have been more organized for the visitor. That is probably
one recommendation for a change. Maybe if the arrangement was not designed for the rooms to be
placed in circular gesture, it would have been more comfortable for the visitor to focus on what he/she
are viewing, rather than focusing on how which way gets me out. The numbers of the rooms were not
chronologically ordered, so that was deceptive as well for the visitors. The fact

The Debate Over The Legalization Of Same Sex Marriage
Within the past few decades, as society has been adapting to various cultural changes, traditional
values have come into contest with more liberal values. One of the most prevalent examples of this is
the ongoing debate over the legalization of same sex marriage within America. In the article Supreme
Court should make gay marriage a national right by the editorial staff at the Boston Globe, the
importance of the upcoming Supreme Court ruling on same sex marriage was stressed because it is a
topic that has been dodged thus far. While numerous federal circuit courts have ruled on this issue,
some in favor and some opposed, the legal dispute of whether the decision should be left up to the
state democratic process will finally be settled. Through looking at previous key rulings in the cases
Zablocki v. Redhail and Loving v. Virginia, the editorial argued in favor of same sex marriage based
on the precedence that the Supreme Court has determined marriage as a fundamental right that should
be uniform across the country and equally available for every individual. However, while the editorial
staff asserts this right of marriage as an institution through those precedent cases, they do not go far
enough to justify why the selected court cases extend to same sex marriage, why marriage is a
fundamental right, and why this issue has been so controversial in the court of law. While the editorial
included the two court cases Zablocki v. Redhail and Loving v. Virginia, it failed to

Essay Catoon Violence
Cartoon Violence
In the cartoon, All Dogs Go to Heaven, the main character, a dog, dies. When he arrives in heaven, he
receives a watch that allows him to return to earth. After viewing this scene, Matthew, a five year old
boy, asked his mother when his dog would get her watch. Matthew s dog passed away over a year ago,
but because Matthew, as well as other children, is unable to separate real life from fiction; he believed
that his dog would receive a watch and return to him.
Many types of violence are viewed in cartoons and because they are centered on the interest of
children, children are at great risk of mimicking the actions and attitudes the characters portray. ...

The plot of this cartoon is to stop Scar from taking over the kingdom. Simba returns from running
away after the death of his father, King Mufasa, to learn that his uncle has taken control of the
kingdom. In his effort to take the control back, Scar reveals that he is the one who killed King Mufasa,
not Simba. Outraged in anger Simba puts Scar into exile. However, Scar does not want to leave, but
instead fights Simba for the thrown. It seems this cartoon leads a child to think that if he/she wants
something, then he/she needs to involve fighting and violence. quot; The Lion King quot; also shows
Scars enemies, the hyenas, attacking him because he betrays them. When children watch this cartoon,
they may mimic what they see. Children should learn to be verbal instead of physical when resolving
their problems.
quot;Forty six percent of all television violence takes place in children s cartoons. Children s programs

of freedom Americans mistreated people of different skin colors for man years, even to the extent of
slavery itself.Even after slavery was ended the mistreatment continued to the workplace, schools, and
public areas such as parks and buses. The Civil Rights Act if 1964 was a major factor in finally

Reflection On Saint Augustine s Confessions
Throughout this class, I have grown so much from where I was at the beginning of the year. I think
that because the class was a collective effort rather than an individual one, it was more motivation for
me to participate properly because people other than myself were relying on me. Due to the fact that
we had written questions and homework for every reading as well as had to use a great deal of textual
evidence throughout the discussions, I was constantly looking to refer back to the text, and make sure
that my argument fit in with the discussion. Therefore, I got the most out of outcome four, using the
discussion and the process of writing to enhance my intellectual discovery. Specifically, a reading that
I feel like I used this outcome the most for was Saint Augustine s Confessions. Once I got through the
initial confusion, through the discussion and especially the second essay helped me develop his ideas
of rightly ordered love . That, then became what I primarily based my exploration of the text off of. It
was important to use Written and Oral Communication for this reading to see how much of an impact
all the situations had on Saint Augustine. Therefore, being engaged in the reading, writing and asking
the right questions, and using the discussion to further my understanding of the text was a strong
lesson I learned from Seminar 2. In regards to the Critical Thinking learning outcome, I found that
making the application and evaluation questions helped me most with

Natural Disasters In Louisiana
The damage done by the recent floods in Louisiana has completely adulterated the lives and homes of
the residents.
To prepare for any natural disaster coming to your area one must use ambidextrous or versatile plans
to evacuate.
Not immediately coming to rescue a person trapped under a building after an earthquake will only
augment their chances of death.
The survivors of any natural disaster will be bereft of their livelihood and basic necessities.
The police may deploy squadrons of policemen to help aid recovery and protection efforts after a
natural disaster.
If you talk to anyone who has experienced and survived a natural disaster, they will probably talk
about their experiences in a dour tone.

Writing In The Afterlife By Billy Collins
. There were many events that occurred between the 1940s and today in the world. However, in
America, a lot of the social issues were mostly dealing with sex, drugs, and alcohol. During the 1950s
and 1960s, the social trends consisted of supply and demand. The supply and demand caused for there
to be more entertainment as well as an increase in pay. A few types of entertainment pieces was the
first magazine of Playboy being issued, more talk about sex, drugs, and alcohol in songs and the radio
shows were transitioning to television shows. Due to the newspaper in New York City having
competition with the television company, the employees of the newspaper went on strike in 1953 for

Collins uses imagery in his poem Writing in the Afterlife in order to express his perception of the way
the afterlife looks. The poem, Writing in the Afterlife is about the narrator/speaker talking about their
perception of what heaven looks like to them. Then the poem goes into more precise detail as to the
narrator/speaker actually entering into heaven. The way Collins could possibly relate the poem to his
actual life is his perception of heaven, may have seen heaven in his past life, or someone he knows
may have seen heaven in their past life. But more towards the end of the poem, he compares mentions
his writing to be heavenly, in a sense because he mentions the writing is peaceful like heaven to him.
The way imagery relates to Collins poem, Writing in the Afterlife is by Collins describing heaven. For
example, Collins says, I imagined the atmosphere would be clear, / shot with pristine light,/..the air
ionized as before a thunderstorm./ (Lines 1, 2, 4). Collins may have also written this poem in order to
become at peace with the loss of his parents because he says, I knew I would not always be a child/
with a model train and a model tunnel/ (Lines 9 10). As a result, Collins is able to use imagery in order
to display his perception as well as his active imagination of heaven through his poem Writing in the
Afterlife (Poetry Foundation 2002). (Transition

Kodak, and created roll film for cameras. By this founding Rockefeller was able to give people ways
to start cars, roads, eyeglasses, and credit cards, and other stuff that we use everyday. When Eastman
started Kodiak and made roll film, families created memories and gave people their favorite movies

True, airbags have had some success. According to CNN, airbags have been credited with saving
1,100 lives since they have been introduced ( quot;Federal
Safety Officials..... quot; 1). However, an article by CNNfn goes on to state, the airbags do nothing to
cut the overall injury rate that occurs in accidents
( quot;Reports Knock Airbag Safety quot; 1). The airbags may be saving some lives.
However, in other cases, they are doing more damage than good. USA Today broke the story on airbag
performance. The news report told us that airbags deliver enough non lethal injuries to the passengers
that it offsets their performance on overall injuries ( quot;Reports Knock Airbag Safety quot; 1). The
net result: airbags have been found to cause injuries in so many accidents that the little good they do is
overshadowed by the injuries they cause.
Now that you understand some of the problems with the performance of airbags, let s look at another
problem why they are unreliable.
The reliability of airbags is questioned since they do not protect all sizes of bodies. When the first
airbags were tested, the engineers didn t take into account the different sizes of people the bags would
have to protect. They used a one sized dummy, similar to quot;Larry and

The Effects Of Heavy Metal Decontamination Of Sluil
Heavy metal contamination of soils has received considerable attention in the contemporary science.
Application of biological processes for decontaminating the contaminated/polluted sites is a
challenging task because heavy metals cannot be degraded and hence persist in the soil (Kidd et al.,
2009; Lebeau et al., 2008; Maet al., 2011a; Rajkumar et al., 2010). Among heavy metals, Al
(aluminium), Zn (zinc), Mn (manganese), Cr (chromium), Cu (copper), Cd (cadmium), Pb (lead) and
Hg (mercury) are the common toxic metals (Emamverdian et al., 2015). Cadmium (Cd) enters the
soils in various ways, but mainly through anthropogenic sources such as phosphate fertilizers and
sewage sludge, and emissions from power stations, metal and cement ... Show more content on

In order to cleanup the contaminated sites, heavy metals should be extracted and concentrated by an
appropriate technique for proper disposal in designated secure landfill sites. The established
conventional techniques (e.g., thermal processes, physical separation, electrochemical methods,
washing, stabilization/solidification and burial) for clean up of metal contaminated soils are generally
too expensive and often harmful to soil microbial diversity (Dermont et al., 2008; Ma et al., 1993;

Mary Shelley
Mary Shelley was born on August 30, 1797, becoming a distinguished, though often neglected,
literary figure during the Romanticism Era. Mary was the only child of Mary Wollstonecraft, a famous
feminist, but after her birth, Wollstonecraft passed away (Harris). Similar to Mary s book
Frankenstein, both her and Victor s mothers die when they are at a very young age. Mary s father was
William Godwin, an English philosopher who also wrote novels that would inspire Mary in the late
years of her life (Holmes). Many years later, Mary would get married to Percy Shelley although he
had been previously engaged ( Shelley Exploring). Although Mary s mother never lived long enough
for her to see her parents together, they were profound philosophers in ... Show more content on

The only remaining child Mary possessed was a son named William ( Shelley Exploring). Similar to
her book Frankenstein, Mary was left with her last child William after many deaths just as Victor
Frankenstein only had his little brother Ernest to support him in the end. After the trauma that had
struck the Shelley family, Percy wanted Mary to live her life to the fullest and not give up. Percy
wanted Mary to have what she most yearned for that was growth, love and freedom. Similar to the
novel Frankenstein, the monster that Victor Frankenstein creates wishes for the same that Mary had
coveted her whole life. (Harris) At the age of twenty four Mary s husband drowned leaving her with
her son William and no money ( Shelley Exploring). In the novel Frankenstein, Victors wife whom he
had just married, died shortly after leaving him with just his father and Ernest as Mary Shelley only
had William and her father. The tragic events that occurred in Mary s life seem to pass down into her
novel Frankenstein in a similar fashion from which they happened.
In conclusion, many people and events throughout the course of Mary Shelley s life influenced her
novel Frankenstein. Similarities between her book and her life began to appear at a young age for
Mary. The death of her mother and a quest for knowledge appear to be similar concepts to
Frankenstein during Mary s childhood. Also numerous

  • 2. Me Knife Diamond And Flower Analysis A piece of art I really liked at the El Paso Art Museum was Me, Knife, Diamond and Flower created by James Surles in 1999. This piece is three dimensional and made out of pine, poplar and fabricated stainless steel. The first thing I noticed was the big knife so immediately I was drawn to go see what it was all about. I found it be very expressive because it definitely made me feel a little creeped out that there was a knife, leaving me to wonder if this was about a murder, or trying to tell a story of some kind. The woodcut flower and knife I think was a great touch to the piece so it differentiates them from the diamond and the face. The composition of this art piece shows depth with the face and diamond up front, to the knife behind it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was another three dimensional piece of work that caught my eye, but not for its beauty. This piece stood out because it was hideous and dull. The first thought that came into my mind was what the hell is that? I am not too sure if this it was supposed to be a witch s hat or a limbless and leafless tree but is ugly. This piece had a lot of texture ranging from very smooth looking to extremely bumpy which I did not feel was appealing whatsoever. It looked like someone just starting hitting it from to create dimples. There was no real pattern, repetition or rhythm to the texture. The higher you looked up on the piece, the more texture that appeared in the surface. The bottom of the sculpture had a lot more smoother and finer texture to it. I saw this piece just shortly after I saw Me, Knife, Diamond and Flower which really had my mind stimulated in a positive manner and then I stumbled across this piece which changed my mood almost instantly. I was sad to see such an emotionless piece right after seeing James Surles and I felt like I wasted time in my life just staring at it. I decided to Google what Rolo meant and in Latin America it means stick. In no shape or form do I see a stick in the artwork. I would assume that it is not supposed to portray a stick and am left to wonder what it could. Is it supposed to represent something? Is it symbolic? I can honestly not tell you for sure as there is little information ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Conclusion: In the experiment, I set up the 24 plate well, and added each solution one by one while keeping track of which liquid was in which well. I lit my burner with matches and started assembling my make shift cotton toothpicks. My Q tips were plastic, so I (with gloved hands) ripped the cotton off the swab and wrapped it around a toothpick. I then proceeded to dip the cotton in and wait a second or two before waving it through the flame. I noticed the color change with the sodium immediately, but with the others it took a bit longer. I repeated the process with each liquid three times just to be sure. Especially with the Potassium, as it was very difficult for me to discern the color change. I tried to eliminate any major errors by taking my time and redoing the experiment a few times, but I did spill a bit of the liquid as a cut the pipets open. Also, my swabs may have been previously contaminated by the salt on our skin due to frequent use. MSDS INFO

  • 5. The Characteristics Of Early Islamic Art And Early... Early Christian art had a rough start. It started off not being wanted because it worshiped idols and that was frowned upon in the early days. Although, as time went on and Christians started realizing the benefits that art had at conveying their beliefs. The earliest Christian art occurred in the catacombs, which were underground tombs under the city and they often depicted biblical symbols like Noah s ark. Architecture also grew during this time, as people got more accepting of this culture things started picking up. Art became in demand and so did architecture. Before the spike happened, early Christians didn t have any designated places to worship and as soon as it became more accepted that changed. Early Christian churches often mimicked roman work because it was so successful. An example of this was Old St. Peter. Architecture and art weren t the only thing early Christians used to push Christianity into the mainstream, music also played a role in the development Christianity. Early Christian music prohibited instrumental accompaniment of any kind (Benton and Diyannni 185). This was mainly because it wasn t considered religious it was considered un religious. As time progressed this was eventually overturned. Early Christian music often used harps as a background for the scriptures. Islamic art is very different characteristics than early Christian art. They were previously referred to as Industrial Tribunals, but their name was changed by s1 of the Employment Rights (Dispute Resolution) Act 1998, which took effect on 1 August 1998 (J.Nairns,2011,p.6). However, it can hear almost every employment law matter since its jurisdiction increased. Before 1994, Employment Tribunals could only hear statutory claims while after the Employment Tribunals Extension of Jurisdiction (England and Wales) Order 1994, Employment Tribunals role has drastically changed that they can now hear common law claims(Richard Kinder,1999). But there are some law matters of common law they cannot cope with like matters relating to moral tights and copyright, patents, designs rights, trade marks; breach of restraint of trade covenants; breach of confidence; breach of a contract terms requiring the employer to provide for the employee; personnel injury claims. From this regard, certain employment matters still have to be tackled in the civil courts. Since judges and solicitors don t need to wear wigs at employment tribunals, cases needn t to be open to public under some circumstances and employment tribunals meant to be cheap, speedy and informal, but they are not informal, actually, they are becoming increasingly legalistic. As the complexity and magnitude of employment law keeps increasing, the workload of employment tribunals increases, lawyers are now needed, thus the employment tribunals are no longer as cheap and informal as before. As to informality, anyone going to an employment tribunal expecting a cosy chat can think again, despite the injunction in the regulation that tribunals should seek to avoid ... • 9. Emily Grierson s Time Time Does Not Stand Still Miss Emily Grierson was a proper lady of Jefferson. Unfortunately for her, she came to live in a time when being a proper lady was no longer what was expected. She avoided any sort of change coming to her life, and because of it, the world moved on without her. The story takes place in the South, as is illustrated a few times throughout the story. It took place some time between the 1860 s and the 1930 s, which illustrates the source of some problems for Miss Emily. That was just after the civil war, and that was a period of great change for the South. Not only did the South have to quickly extinguish slavery, it changed from agriculture to factories with almost the same pace. Most of the people in Jefferson had someone to go through these changes with, but Emily did not. Clearly her father was wealthy. He would have owned a fair amount of slaves, one of whom was probably Tobe, the Negro ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before, she had not had anyone to help her through the change, but now she did not have anyone at all. There was no one to remind her of the passage of time. The only one who might have done this was Tobe, and as he was a Negro, he did not count in her mind. Homer probably helped her to accept the fact that time was moving, yet as she was beginning to adjust, beginning to move with time again, she lost him. He threatened to leave her, so she trapped him in time with her. William Faulkner grew up in the South, which had a definite influence on his writing. Born in 1897, he was too young to have watched slavery die, and yet he knew many of those who had. A Rose for Emily could easily have had its beginnings in someone he knew through childhood. After all, he watched those around him fall into poverty because their wealth was based on their human property. Once they lost that, they lost their fortune as well. In addition to these local ferries and tugs, police helicopters, rescue divers and Coast Guard vessels among others joined the rescue efforts. Notably, other organizations provided about thirty other ambulances including various hospital based ambulances. Medical help was also provided by various agencies on the Weehawken side of the river. These rescue and recovery efforts led to the safe evacuation of all the passengers as well as the flight crew. While seventy eight people were treated for minor injuries and hypothermia, the two broken legs of one woman, a fight attendant, was the only major injury. • 12. herbert hoover and his role in the great depression Essay Herbert Hoover and His Role in The Great Depression With the continually worsening conditions, and the stock market crash on Black Tuesday, October 29, 1929, the United States was thrown into the biggest economical disaster of our history. Everyone, excluding the rich upper class, became poor and most unemployed. The majority of the American populace found themselves living in shantytowns or Hoovervilles as they later became to be known, which consisted of many cramped shacks constructed from whatever was available. This meant old burnt out cars, cardboard boxes, random pieces of lumber, and anything else that people could find. Times truly were tough. It was a daily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the public work programs, Hoover provided unemployed Americans with many different jobs in order to create some sort of income. The most famous of these programs was the Boulder Dam, which will be talked about later. Throughout the entire depression, Hoover stood on his belief of a hands off government until late in his presidency. Under pressure from Americans and his fellow politicians, President Hoover eventually gave in and signed an act granting money and/or food to areas in dire need. That was the extent of his direct relief. As previously mentioned, the Boulder Dam was one of the most famous, and certainly most expensive (with the whole project costing about $385 million) public works program. To provide jobs and much needed money to unemployed Americans, the Bureau of Reclamation, under President Hoover, authorized the Boulder Canyon Project on the Colorado River in 1928. The entire project included a hydroelectric power plant and a reservoir to control floods of the Colorado River and supply power to the Pacific Southwest. The dam reservoir is Lake Mead, which can store approximately 28 million acre feet of water, making it one of the world s largest artificially created bodies of water. Besides providing many jobs, the project responsible for the officially named Hoover Dam (as of 1947), added about 3 million acres of national parks and monuments and expanded ... • 14. What Role Does The Satan Play In The Canterbury Tales In Medieval Literature Satan was often used as a character. There was also more evidence during this period of time. They were not that obvious unlike others but they were there for sure. They were often symbolized in a certain character s and personalities that they had throughout the Prologue. The characters were really relatable to the characteristics of Satan himself. Satan played a big role in The Canterbury Tales with the Parson, Pardoner, and Summoned. • 15. The Natural Hazards Of Earthquakes The Natural Hazard Earthquakes as a natural hazard have occurred way too often, so now we understand them perfectly. The intensity or magnitude of earthquakes are measured by a seismograph. It is measured using the Richter scale. Earthquakes with magnitudes lower than 03 are hardly noticeable but those that are 07 or above tend to cause major damages to the human settlements. Time and again through history, there have been incidents of earthquakes destroying towns and cities. One such historic earthquake was the infamous 1906 San Francisco Earthquake. Earthquakes usually cause the shaking and displacement of the land which causes buildings to fall down and cause casualties. If close to the ocean, they might even cause tsunamis. The science of an earthquake is such that the tectonic plates under the ground cause strain and they move, causing earthquakes. Earthquakes usually occur naturally but in some rare cases they might even be a result of human activities (Daily, 2017). Some earthquakes are also caused by volcanic activity, landslides or even events such as mine blasts and nuclear experiments. Earthquakes can be caused by volcanic activity, tectonic plates activity or even explosions. The one that occurred in San Francisco was a result of tectonic plate activity and most of the destruction was caused after the earthquake finished. • 16. There are many different varieties of pollution, as well as an abundance of materials, both natural and synthetic, that the earth has been contaiminated with. Shifrin ( 2005), states: To date, wastes remain a fact of life and there are only three places to dispose of wastes air, water, or land. Waste management always involves tradeoffs. (p. 676). Even though Shifrin is correct in his analysis, it does not excuse the amount of environmental poison that continues to exist today, nor the amount of environmental problems that it has caused throughout history. The tradeoffs of pollution have devastated entire communities, causing waves of sickness and death in their wake. According to Shifrin (2005): Water borne contagious disease still caused devastating epidemics in the early 1900s, compounded by growing, congested populations. Air pollution also grew to a high priority by midcentury because its impact was so observable and immediate. (p. 676). Generally, these diseases were spread through poor sanitary practices as well as the overwhelming volume of pollution that was generated by so many indivduals with little knowledge about what the adverse effects on the overall environment would be. In Vitro-Farming Pros And Cons With global meat production having tripled in the last three decades and estimated to double current levels by 2050, the practice of factory farming is an increasingly urgent problem for the environment, human health, and nonhuman animals (Hyner). As the factory farming of meat will continue to increase due to the increasing per capita global meat consumption and population growth, other options must be considered so further harm done by the industry may be prevented. In vitro meat production is a strong, sustainable alternative to factory farming, because it requires less resources, it is more beneficial to environmental health and human health, and avoids ethical issue found in traditional animal husbandry. In vitro meat greatly reduces animal suffering normally caused by conventional farming practices, and with the controlled cell growth environment, it is more reliable than animals, which may get stressed, sick, and injured, which can then ruin the meat and decrease profits. Psychodynamic Hypothesis In Social Work Psychodynamic hypothesis, a hypothesis of identity started by Sigmund Freud (writing between the 1890s and the 1930s), has a long and complex history in social work. The youthful calling s want for a logical base, Mary Richmond s decision on a therapeutic model to survey and treat customer issues, and the wide effect of Freud s thoughts on the pop culture, added to the most noticeable part of psychodynamic thought in the hypothesis base of social work (Germain, 1970; Greene and Ephross, 1991). The hypothesis supporting psychodynamic therapy began in and is educated by psychoanalytic hypothesis. There are four noteworthy schools of psychoanalytic hypothesis, each of which has affected psychodynamic therapy. The four schools are: Freudian, Ego Psychology, Object Relations, and Self Psychology. Freudian brain science depends on the hypotheses initially figured by Sigmund Freud in the early piece of this century and is some of the time alluded to as the drive or auxiliary model. The substance of Freud s hypothesis is that sexual and forceful energies starting in the id (or oblivious) are regulated by the personality, which is an arrangement of capacities that conservatives between the id and outer reality. Barrier components are developments of the sense of self that work to limit torment and to keep up the mystic balance. Focused Assessments and Priorities Mr. Steward s priority problems include impaired cardiac tissue perfusion, impaired gas exchange, and pain. We are concerned about impaired cardiac tissue perfusion because the pt. is exhibiting signs of myocardial ischemia including chest pain and shortness of breath (Gillespie, 2012). Although we acknowledge that impaired cardiac tissue perfusion can decrease the function of the heart and will have the potential to affect the perfusion and delivery of oxygen to other end organs, our primary focus will be a focused cardiovascular assessment (House Kokan, 2012). At 1800, Mr. Steward was SOB, had shallow and rapid breathing (RR = 44), and a SaO2 of 72% on RA. Due to the fluid buildup in his lungs, Mr. Steward has impaired gas exchange, and requires supplemental oxygen to maintain his SaO2; this warrants a focused respiratory assessment. Mr. Steward was pain free until this morning. He initially complained of right sided chest pain and then complained about pain in his hip and ankle. We recognized this was a new onset of pain that persisted, despite giving him some pain medication. When Mr. Steward was discovered in his room clutching his chest, we recognized this as a non verbal sign of pain and asked him whether he was having chest pain. Although Mr. Steward doesn t provide a definitive answer, he displayed non verbal signs of pain, such as restlessness, frequent shifting in bed, and act of clutching his chest. Recognizing Mr. ... Most of the portraits were rectangular or square shaped. As a visitor, you would assume that the paintings and each of the portrait frames are together taken to be displayed, but that was not the case. The frames are from the gallery itself, which surprised many people on why and how this occurred. It would have been more remarkable if the frames were from Florence as well. The frames were not meant to overpower the portraits, but to enhance them. It was strange how all the frames of the portraits were gold. Is because the Renaissance was considered as a golden age, so the frame could enhance each portrait as so? Gallery room 20 was based on Raphael s painting, and that is why there was one small writing on the wall that had a small description of Raphael and the High Renaissance. Room arrangements at the gallery was very confusing. The fact that each room has one or two doorways that leads you to another room in a circular motion was very misleading. If the setup was more like rooms next to each other, it could have been more organized for the visitor. That is probably one recommendation for a change. Maybe if the arrangement was not designed for the rooms to be placed in circular gesture, it would have been more comfortable for the visitor to focus on what he/she are viewing, rather than focusing on how which way gets me out. The Debate Over The Legalization Of Same Sex Marriage Within the past few decades, as society has been adapting to various cultural changes, traditional values have come into contest with more liberal values. One of the most prevalent examples of this is the ongoing debate over the legalization of same sex marriage within America. In the article Supreme Court should make gay marriage a national right by the editorial staff at the Boston Globe, the importance of the upcoming Supreme Court ruling on same sex marriage was stressed because it is a topic that has been dodged thus far. While numerous federal circuit courts have ruled on this issue, some in favor and some opposed, the legal dispute of whether the decision should be left up to the state democratic process will finally be settled. Through looking at previous key rulings in the cases Zablocki v. Redhail and Loving v. Virginia, the editorial argued in favor of same sex marriage based on the precedence that the Supreme Court has determined marriage as a fundamental right that should be uniform across the country and equally available for every individual. However, while the editorial staff asserts this right of marriage as an institution through those precedent cases, they do not go far enough to justify why the selected court cases extend to same sex marriage, why marriage is a fundamental right, and why this issue has been so controversial in the court of law.
