Carlton Room Divider
At the Art Institute of Chicago, there is a postmodern design show called the Design Episodes: Form,
Style, and Language . There were three exhibits in one room included in this show. On one side of the
room there was an exhibit that featured works and materials about graphic design. Another side of the
room was an exhibit was about the evolution of the modern chair, and the last side of the room was
about an architectural design exhibit. I chose to write about the architectural design exhibit for this
exhibit review. This particular exhibit features seventeen works done by the radical Italian group
called Memphis and the architectural firm Coop Himmelblau. It features works of postmodern
furniture, ceramics, and glass and metal objects. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Long Break Dna Research Paper
Ok let s break DNA down first. DNA stands for Deoxyribonucleic acid. Deoxyribose is referred to the
absence of an O in the Carbon 2 of the ribose pentose. DNA is made up of six smaller molecules a five
carbon sugar called deoxyribose, a phosphate molecule and four different nitrogenous bases adenine,
thymine, cytosine and guanine. The basic building block of DNA is called a NUCLEOTIDE. A
nucleotide is made up of one sugar molecule, one phosphate molecule and one of the four bases. In
other words, the sugar that makes DNA is ribose a pentose sugar in the case of this molecule DNA its
lacking an Oxygen in its carbon 2. Nucleic is referred to its position, our DNA most anyways is
located on the nucleus of our cells, the presence of this nucleus is what differs us from Prokaryotes us

To sum this up DNA is an electronegative molecule with a lacking Oxygen found in the nuclei of
Eukaryotes. Now let s go deeper, DNA is not only composed of Sugar, it is also composed of a
phosphate backbone, and nitrogenous bases. The phosphate backbone generally expressed as PO4^ 3
provides support for the nitrogenous bases [also bonding through ester bonds. The nitrogenous bases
in DNA are divided into two Purines [Adenine and Guanine] and Pyrimidines [Thymine, Cytosine,
and uracil in RNA] Purines are double ring structures, and Pyrimidines are Single ringed. In other
words, they provide the perfect asymmetry of the DNA double helix. When Watson and Crick did
their DNA model, they noticed that two Purines bonded together meaning for instance A G was too
wide, and too Pyrimidines bonded together would be too thin. But how did they know which was
which? It was found that Adenine always double bonds with hydrogen bonds of course with Thymine,
and that Guanine will always triple hydrogen bond with

Dissonant Music
Music has been enjoyed for centuries by people of different cultures, languages, and religions. It is
used for general enjoyment, as an outlet for relaxation, and as an auditory distraction from the
stressors of daily living. There has been extensive research focusing on the various types and
attributes of music, and on the types of participants that researchers have studied. Dobbs, Furnham,
McClelland (2010) found that music can be distracting to a person when they are trying to study for an
important exam. There has also been research that found that when the therapeutic values of music are
applied to those suffering from pain or disease, that music is very beneficial as it releases endorphins

of a gruesome history of displacement and mutilation of sacred customs and beliefs, native
adolescents struggle with cultural and internal identity crises. When European nations discovered an

Larger organisations tend to have more formalised structures and cultures. Increased size is likely to
result in separate departments and possibly split site operations. This may cause difficulties in
communication with the need for effective co ordination; otherwise, inter departmental rivalries may
develop.A rapid expansion, or decline, in size and rate of growth, and consequent changes in staffing
will influence both structure and culture. There is considerable evidence that size significantly affects
structure and culture. Organisations of 2,000 or more employees tend to exhibit more
departmentalism, specialisation and have more rules. By that stage, they are fairly mechanistic

Psycho Analysis
The movie Psycho was filmed in 1960 by Alfred Hitchcock. The movie focuses on a woman named
Marion Crane. It starts when she steal 40,000 dollars from her boss to run away with her boyfriend. It
s late and she decides to check into a motel, the Bates Motel. At the motel, she encounters a middle
aged man named Norman Bates. He becomes morbidly obsessed with her. But he then kills
her...dressed as his dead mom. There is a show that acts as a prequel to Hitchcock s masterpiece; Bates
Motel. It is focused on Norman Bates and his mother, Norma Bates whereas the movie is focused on
Marion Craine. Bates Motel is a very well written show, with great acting, and is filled with a ton of
textbook psychology. There are very many different subplots in the show, but this paper is strictly
going to analyze Norman and his relationship with his mother. It goes very in depth about the very
troubling relationship between a son and mother, and how it led to Norman developing a dangerous
persona of his mom. You could even say that Norman has an Oedipus conflict. An Oedipus conflict is
apart of one of the psychosexual stages thought of by Sigmund Freud. He believed that during the age
of 3 6, a child developed feelings for the parent of the opposite sex. And the only way to get over that
feeling was to identify with his father. His Oedipus conflict would go on to never be resolved because
his father was abusive. The series starts off after Norman hits his father in the head with a blender,
killing him. His mom covers it up and makes it look like an accident to protect Norman. His father had
been very abusive to him and his mother. Child abuse is said to be one of the most common causes of
many mental illnesses. In this case, the abuse caused him to dissociate, or go off into his own little
world where he felt safe in. It was very traumatic for a young Norman and his mother. People who
tend to experience very traumatic things together have a stronger bond than those who don t. Norman
and his mother are so codependent on each other that it s toxic.
It is very apparent that Norman has a Dissociative Identity Disorder, also known as Multiple
Personality Disorder. DID is when more than one different, distinct personalities take

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Endometriomas
The primary outcome of interest was the suturing time. The secondary outcomes were total operative
time, suturing difficulty, intraoperative blood loss, perioperative complications and the impact of
surgery on ovarian reserve.
Statistical analysis
Statistical calculations were performed using Microsoft Excel 2010 (Microsoft Corporation, NY,
USA) and SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science; SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA) version 15
for Microsoft Windows. Student s t and χ2 tests were used to compare continuous and categorical
variables respectively. A probability value (p value) of less than 0.05 was considered significant.
Results
Between December 2014 and March 2016, 86 consecutive patients with endometriomas were assessed
for eligibility. Forty one patients did not meet inclusion criteria and five patients declined to
participate in the study. Figure 1 illustrates the flow of the patients through the study.
Both groups were comparable as regard to age, body mass index, parity, indications for surgery, basal

Literature Review on Childhood Obesity Essay
Literature Review on Childhood Obesity By: Obesity is a growing problem among U.S. children. In
1994, one in five children between the ages of 6 and 17 was overweight. This is double the rate of 30
years ago (National Center for Health Statistics, 1999). This adverse trend has potentially profound
effects on children s health, including their long term health. The terms obese and overweight often
are used interchangeably. Technically, obesity is the upper end of overweight. Obesity is clinically
diagnosed as: greater than 90th percentile for weight for height; or greater than or equal to the 95th
percentile Body Mass Index (BMI), age and sex specific. The gold standard is becoming the BMI,
since this is also used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Researches studies differ on whether obese consume more energy (calories) than non obese
individuals. Some show they do consume more; others show they may consumer fewer calories. The
big difference may be in the type of nutrients that they consume, such as fat. For example, Gazzaniga,
found that the percentage of body fat was positively correlated with total dietary fat. Still, other
researchers suggest that the reasons are metabolic in origin and that obese individuals process foods
differently resulting in an increase in body fat. Although how these factors affect obesity are not fully
understood, one thing is clear: Obesity results when energy intake exceeds energy expenditure and is
stored as fat. Ellyn Satter (1987), author of Child of Mine: Feeding with Love and Good Sense, firmly
believes in the importance of the feeding relationship and its implications for obesity. The feeding
relationship is the interaction that takes place between parents and children around food. Obese
children need to learn to listen to their internal cues of hunger and appetite. Parents and childcare
providers must help them do so. This includes encouraging children to eat according to these cues,
while acknowledging the emotional aspect of feeding and eating. A restrictive diet may make the child
feel deprived and neglected, and exacerbate the overeating problem. Children and adolescents who
watched the most TV were more obese than

Oxidation Of Benzoin To Benzil
This experiment performed the second step in a multistep synthesis. The reaction carried out was an
oxidation of benzoin to benzil using a recyclable copper catalyst, cupric acetate. The cupric acetate
acted as an electron acceptor in a redox type reaction. The benzoin donated an electron to cupric
acetate and formed the Cu+ ion while becoming a benzoin radical cation. The benzoin radical cation
lost a hydrogen to the Cu+ ion forming acetic acid. Another redox cycle between Cu2+ and the
benzoin radical took place, forming a second Cu+ ion and the benzoin cation lost a proton to another
acetate ion to form the product benzil. The benzoin was oxidize to benzil as well as the Cu+ ion was
oxidized to Cu2+ using the ammonium nitrate, which was

Critique Of The s Theory
Critique of Experiment 2
Many experiment fall folly due to the many factors they need to get correct. Like most studies the
practitioner needs to create a hypothesis that is actually testable and test it on a group of people they
can get. The participants are the foundation to the whole study. With them you are able to prove
whether your hypothesis was correct or not. These and many more factors are why psychological
studies are incredibly to execute and do properly.
The hypothesis of this study states, Participants who had been primed with the elderly stereotype
would walk more slowly compared to participants who had not been primed with the stereotype
relevant stimuli . This basically means that the experimenter believes that words related to the elderly
population and none related will affect the rate in which the participants walk. Their hypothesis seems
achievable because in my experiences I find that we as people relate to word association and because
of this our behaviors can be slightly modified to match the words presented. This hypothesis is seems
testable because it doesn t seem completely absurd due to the actual experiment they planned to
conduct.
In this specific study, they are aiming to construct an environment where participants will have to
unscramble words either related to elderly concepts or non elderly concepts. The participants chosen
from this study were all Undergraduate NYU students, 30 males and females. I think each participant

Jane Eyre, the Cinderella Copy Essay
Cinderella is a classic fairytale almost every person knows. Such recognition was earned through time
and it s originality. Yet from this well known tale, many stories have stemmed into their own
interesting aspects of virtually the same plot with similar characters. One of the related stories is Jane
Eyre by Charlotte Brontë. Brontë uses the main character Jane as Cinderella who finds her prince
charming. Even though Jane Eyre contains more about human nature and less of magic, it still
resembles the Cinderella archetype through Jane s early life and her relationship with Rochester. This
does not, however, help Jane Eyre, but makes it cliché.
Jane s early life can be defined as the classic Cinderella case beginning with Jane s orphaned ... Show

Jane and Mr. Rochester follow this pattern almost precisely. They fall in love somewhat similar to the
way Cinderella and her prince: reluctant at first, then extremely passionate. After separating, each sort
out his and her desires and reason after being apart then proceed to find each other. Jane finds
Rochester rather than the prince looking for Cinderella, but the emotional evolution and plot is the
same. Also, the rich vs. poor aspect is existent. In the end, both stories end with hero and heroine
together in a happy ending. This closely entwined connection gives the reader a feel of unoriginality
despite the differences.
The hugely obvious parallels overshadow those differences. Symbolism and superior development of
characters are blurred together and covered by the relationship to the fairytale, which is easier to
analyze. The novel greatly suffers from the comparison to Cinderella. From Jane and Cinderella s
analogous background, the reader easily assigns a Cinderella personality to Jane on first glance due to
their similarities. The dramatic events concerning Jane and Rochester are perceived in a rather
simplified manner from the relationship to the fairytale. Cinderella and the prince do not undergo any
of the conflicts between reason and passion that Jane and Rochester battle, but it is overlooked when a
reader is involved in predicting the story from his or her

A Brief Note On Book The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn
Sarah Jane Reshetiloff
Mr. O Hearn
Honors British Literature
26 September 2015
Social Satire in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Mark Twain s novel The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn is a masterful social satire that demonstrates the awakening of a young, adventurous
boy living in a culture of slavery.
He uses humor and an unreliable narrator to convey social satire in the novel to reflect the flaws of
society toward in the antebellum south.
The novel was published in 1884, just after slavery was abolished in 1865. Needless to say, racism
was prevalent and although slavery was outlawed, colored people did not have equal rights to white
people. African Americans across the country were still treated disrespectfully, beaten, and often
murdered. With the outlawing of slavery in the south, racism was much more common there than in
the north. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn takes place on the Mississippi River along Missouri
and other various southern states.
In the story, Huck Finn is a young boy who seeks adventures and does not wish to be civilized by the
women in charge of him. He sets out on a journey to help free a slave named Jim, in a time period
where slavery is legal in the south. They encounter many obstacles such as other characters, means of
transportation, the possibility of getting caught, and also the war Huck is at with himself. He battles
over whether he is doing the right thing. He feels that freeing Jim is morally correct but because of the
society he

Jackie And Me Character Traits
After reading Jackie and Me by Dan Gutman, I have learned that Joe Stoshack is a dynamic character.
At the beginning of the book, Joe is misbehaving; eventually, Joe becomes thoughtful, and then very
self controlled.. These character traits were observed through Joe s actions, dialogue, relationships,
choices, and problems. In the first chapters I have learned that Joe was dishonest and through his
action and choices and this tells me this character cannot be trusted. One reason why Joe is dishonest,
is that Joe told Mrs. Robinson (Jackie s wife) and other people that he wasn t a time traveler even
thought Joe was. Another reason is that when Joe got back from the journey Joe didn t tell his teacher
that he went back in time Joe said he found it from the baseball cards and lied when he should have
been honest although he didn t want people to know. The last reason why Joe is dishonest, is when Joe

The Issue Of The United States Of Disaster During The Last...
Does anyone remember the Republican predictions of disaster during the last eight years? They
warned us what could happen if Obama was elected President and if Congress was controlled by
Democrats. Let me list my personal top ten: 1. The Second Amendment will be abolished and all guns
will be confiscated. 2. Legal gay marriage will destroy the institution of marriage and our country. 3.
The Affordable Care Act will create Death Panels . 4. Gas prices will soar over $5 or even up to $10 a
gallon. 5. Repealing Don t Ask, Don t Tell will destroy our military. 6. Our homeland will be attacked
by Al Qaeda again. 7. The ACA will kill jobs. 8. The auto bailout will destroy that industry. 9. Raising

4. Families of illegal immigrants will be rounded up and deported which means that American citizens
will be forced to leave as well as illegals. 5. A wall will be built on our southern border using funds
taken from departments other than Homeland Security. After Mexico refuses to pay for it, Trump then
sells advertising space on the wall in both English and Spanish. 6. The KKK will stage a march in
Washington D.C. to celebrate Trump s inauguration. Incidents of violence against minorities soar. 7.
At Trump s urging Congress passes new laws restricting free speech and freedom of the press that are
upheld by the Supreme Court stripping away the last remnants of the first amendment. 8. Congress
will pass a law outlawing Gay marriage. Another bill outlawing interracial marriage fails to make it to
the House floor. 9. The EPA will be abolished and any funding for research into climate change will be
denied. Water and air pollution increase exponentially. America backs out of the Paris Climate
Agreement. 10. Real wages decline, more wealth becomes concentrated at the top of our society
thanks to new tax laws, and the middle class continues to shrink. There is one thing that I wanted to
include, but it s external to our country so I didn t mention it in my top ten because it involves foreign
policy. I really do fear unchecked Russian expansion during a Trump

Fire Suppression And Its Effects On The American Northeast
For most of the 20th century active fire exclusion was the rule in the American southwest. Previous to
suppression policies, ponderosa pine and dry mixed conifer forests experienced a frequent, low to
mixed severity fire regime (Agee 1996, Allen et al. 2002). As a result of a century of fire suppression,
successional trajectories have been significantly altered, in that ponderosa pine and dry mixed conifer
forests have become increasingly dense with late successional, non fire adapted trees and excess
accumulations of surface fuels (Parsons and Debenedetti 1979, Higgens et al., 2015). Despite efforts
to aggressively suppress fires, several large, severe wildfires have occurred throughout the southwest
in recent decades. Post fire, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence, larger patches of high severity fire may decrease forest resilience or result in unfamiliar
successional trajectories.
The questions facing managers is how will these severely burned areas recover in an era of changing
climate? Will forest structure and vegetation be permanently altered? In areas where past high severity
fires have burned, recent large fires have struck again, further complicating stand recovery and adding
another challenge for land managers; thus, we will need greater insight as to how, and if, high severity
burned areas can continually recover (Seager and Vecchi 2010). Improved understanding of the
processes of successional changes in mixed conifer forests will help facilitate management efforts to
sustain the many resources valued in these ecosystems (Meng, 2015).
Though many studies of post fire succession exist, due to methodological constraints at the temporal
scale, many studies are limited to either long term (Abella et al. 2015, O Connor et al. 2014, Odion et
al., 2014) succession or short term (Higgens et al. 2014, Keeling et al. 2006, Mast Wolf 2006)
successional studies or monitoring permanent plots for successive years (Moore et al. 2004). We
propose to quantify a space for time sequence of successional trajectories across the greater landscape
of the Coconino National Forests area. This approach assumes the only difference between sites is due
to age; however, because forest stands vary due to environmental and management

Memoirs of a Geisha and the Bluest Eye Essay example
Comparison Essay of Memoirs of a Geisha and the Bluest Eye Memoirs of a Geisha by Aurthor
Golden and The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison are two thought provoking books with a unique style of
writing. Memoirs of a Geisha has a beautiful poetic grammar which captures readers imagination and
brings the story to life. Morrison on the other hand uses combined voices to give varied perspectives
with out resorting to authorial intrusion or preaching. Memoirs Of A Geisha and the bluest eye both
contain graphic realism combined with a dramatic flair, which is the key as to why both of these books
have been a great success.

Sayuri envies Hatsumomo as she is a beautiful well known geisha. However Hatsumomo despises
Sayuri because she knows that Sayuri has the determination and beauty to become better than she is
and Hatsumomo does everything in her way to stop Sayuri from becoming a Geisha. Pecola however
envies Shirly Temple because she has blue eyes and is beautiful. All of the parents adore Shirly temple
because of the beauty she possesses. Both books involve hatred, selfishness, jealousy, love and
betrayal.
Memoirs of a Geisha has several different themes entwined in to the story, what I take to be the theme
of this memoir is that a person can accomplish anything in life if they have set their mind on it and if
they believe they can get there. Never giving up hope and always looking for a brighter day will
eventually lead you to what you re out there searching for. In Sayuri s case, she was a slave who won
the heart of a man and worked herself up to become one of the most successful geishas in all of Japan
and to be united with the man she loved who motivated her all her life. I feel people should learn to be
courageous from Sayuri and never give up dreaming because I believe that if you want something
badly, you can transform your dreams into realties. This theme that is illustrated in Memoirs of a
Geisha is most probably the opposite of what happens in The Bluest Eye. This however is not saying
that the

A Typical American Household s Shopping List Containing...
Introduction: A typical American household s shopping list contains milk and other dairy based
products. A lot of people cannot even start their day of without having milk. A typical person who has
lived in US, and drinks milk on a daily basis probably believes that majority of the world s population
is also able to consume milk. However, research has shown that majority of the world s population
(70%)* is not able to digest milk. Milk contains a sugar called lactose. * Breakdown of lactose is the
major determining factor in whether a person s body is able to digest milk or not. All mammals can
digest milk in infancy but once they stop drinking milk, they stop producing the enzyme lactase*. The
enzyme lactase breaks down disaccharide sugar lactose into monosaccharide sugars of glucose and
galactose*. A person s ancestral history is a major factor in determining whether he/she will lactose

American are more likely to not be able to digest milk.* A person is considered Lactose Intolerance
when he/she is not able to break down a great amount of the sugar lactose. * Majority of the lactose
tolerance individuals come from Northern European ancestry*. A person who can digest milk is called
Lactose tolerant. * The most likely cause for lactose tolerance is the gene that controls lactase enzyme,
is turned on, as a result of a mutation. Therefore, their lactase enzyme is

Marxist vs Functionalist View of Ed
COMPARE AND CONTRAST THE FUNCTIONALIST AND MARXIST VIEWS ON EDUCATION
(20 marks) The role of education is to educate individuals within society and to prepare them for
working life, also to integrate individuals and teach them the norms, values and roles within society.
Functionalism and Marxism are the two main perspectives which will be studied; Marxism is a
structural conflict sociological theory whereas functionalism is a structural consensus sociological
theory. Functionalism sees society as a whole. It is often referred to as the consensus theory as it does
not address the issue of conflict in society. It looks at all the major aspects in society for example the

that the education system socialises people into society by informal and formal processes. Primary and
secondary socialisations are two forms of socialisation to teach children simple norms and values.
Primary is conducted by the family whereas secondary is done within education. A form of secondary
education is the hidden curriculum, the aim of the hidden curriculum is to socialise young people into
accepting the role assigned to them by the capitalist class. The hidden curriculum teaches obedience
and respect for the established organisation of work. The majority of teachers unconsciously deliver
the hidden curriculum. In conclusion from a functionalist perspective, society is regarded as a system
which is made up of interrelated and interconnected parts. Each part will affect every other part if it
changes. There needs to be basic needs in order to survive and a minimum degree of integration
between each part. Both perspectives agree that education is a positive thing in society also what
occurs through the education socialisation has a great affect in job choices. Functionalism argues that
the education system selects certain individuals for appropriate roles whereas Marxist argues that the

Upon The Burning Of Our House Analysis
Puritans were people who came from England to express their religion. When they made it to America
the future generations started to stray from their belief. In 1666 and 1741 two writers tried to use two
different scare tactics to get them back in good graces with God. They both mainly focused on eternal
life, human moral weakness, relationship between God and person, and religious beliefs. Eternal Life
is something we as humans all all Puritans strive to have. Who would not want to see God? In
Bradstreet s poem Upon the Burning of Our House , she compares her home to the Heaven above. My
hope and treasure lies above (54). She gave all of her faith into her home and trusted that because her
home was in order that God would accept her completely. However the Lord said Set thine house in
order, for thou shalt die and not live (Isaiah 38:1). When the Lord said this to his people, he didn t
actually want them to go home and clean, but to get their personal selves together before God returns.
Bradstreet took that line to literal; however, Edwards knew the true meaning. In Edwards Sinners In
the Hands of An Angry God , God will have no other use to put you to, but to suffer misery (p.11).

Most of the islets of the PRP treated group were seen closely associated with ducts. Several areas of
stratification and invagination of the epithelial lining of the ducts were observed. Some areas showed
small clusters of endocrine cells were closely associated with ducts and each islet cluster was
encapsulated by connective tissue. Other islets appeared connecting to each other. These data could be
the evident of the regenerative effect of PRP on the diabetic islets where pancreatic regeneration
occurred through the proliferation of duct cells and its subsequent differentiation into new islets which
was in accordance with Bonner Weir et al., (2010). One of the most characteristic findings of this
work was the appearance of scattered areas of the parenchyma which were arranged into small lobules

Future On Mars Research Paper
A Future on Mars
Overpopulation and sustainability are growing concerns for the future of Earth. Time is running out on
Earth as population continually increases. Such a large population will put a strain on Earth s
resources and environment. Fortunately, there are many ways in which people are working to lessen
and slow these issues on Earth. Despite their efforts, it is still evident that a future on Earth will be a
precarious one, so alternate options are being explored. Elon Musk, founder of Space X, has proposed
a plan to colonize Earth s neighboring planet, Mars. NASA, Mars One, and several other corporations
have also expressed similar interest in colonizing this planet. Mars would not be a replacement for

What will this future Martian colony be like? At this point, so much is still subject to change;
however, there are several ideas for the colony regarding structure and government. NASA has
released their plans for what the colony might entail: an astrobiology lab, a food growing facility, a
place for spare parts, all docked together. At the end, there s a small village for future Mars explorers,
ready as a home base for exploring the deep mysteries of the planet (Wenz). This plan reveals that the
future of Mars is going to be about everyone working together as a whole. It has been suggested by
many that this idea of oneness should also carry over into how the government on Mars will be run,
with decisions being made collectively and requiring unanimity (Mars One). Jacob Haqq Misra, an
astrobiologist at the Blue Marble Space Institute of Science, believes that the future Mars colony
should be completely independent of Earth, I propose that we liberate Mars from any controlling
interests of Earth and allow Martian settlements to develop into a second independent instance of
human civilization . Cultural independence could help Martians think differently enough to solve
problems that the people of Earth continue to struggle with such as working together to fight global
environmental problems, or making long term plans of humanity. Overall, the future for the Martian
colony, even though it is not yet concrete, has quite an optimistic

The Rejection-Abuse Cycle
Psychology Domestic abuse often follows a certain pattern and that pattern is an infinite vicious cycle.
There are two types of abuse cycle. The name given for the first one this merciless cycle is The
Rejection Abuse Cycle (Brown, James, Taylor, 2010, p.280 307), which can be related to social
norms. The pattern is separated into four steps; (1) rejection, (2) threat to self, (3) defence against
threat, (4) abuse. Rejection happens when the man becomes aware of his partner is rejecting him.
Therefore, it triggers the man s previous experience of being rejected. After feeling rejected, the man
will sense a threat to his ego, evoking shame because social norms does not allow men to be rejected

avoidance is when the woman does not want to go back to places or do activities they did with their

attention to by the Department of Transportation, highway safety, and police departments are
distracted driving incidents that they believe can be stopped. PSA s can help reduce the number of

Many say that they can help reduce the number of distracted driving incidents because if the

habits, and make them think about it both out of driving, and while driving, which could very well
lead a positive influence on their abilities. In a similar survey taken by AAA to the one about driving

threat to their personal safety. In the AAA report, they say that researchers at MIT had published
results from a study that found that drivers who frequently used cell phones behind the wheel were
more likely than those who did not to be reported or observed engaging in other risky behaviors, such
as frequent lane changing, speeding, and hard acceleration. In order to try to curb all of this, 46 states
have enacted some sort of texting bans with penalties ranging from 20 dollars to ten thousand and a
year in prison. While this may not have all to do with public service announcements, it s just as

Mutations (for most cancers) must appear in both tumour suppressing genes and oncogenes for
cancers to form. The tumour suppressing genes and oncogenes act in complementary fashion to one
another; one pulls forward, and the other pushes back ensuring that the cell cycle occurs in a
controlled manner (Sherr, 2004).
Oncogenes were discovered in the 1960s, when it was discovered that some animal cancers such as
lymphomas were caused by viruses. Some of these viruses were notable due to the simplicity of their
RNA genome. These viruses only had three distinct transcription units, involved in the replication of
the virus (coat proteins and reverse transcriptase etc.), and an extra gene. This was an oncogene. When
oncogenes are properly functioning they are termed proto oncogenes (Todd R, 1999). Their normal
function is to control cell proliferation. These function in growth signalling pathways, and conversely
to tumour suppressing cells are activated through a gain in function rather than a loss of it. This occurs
in two ways, by producing more of a product, or producing a subtly different product, as a result of a
mutation similar to tumour suppressor genes (Croce, 2008). Oncogenes play a particularly strong role
in the development of breast cancers. Often the normal ERBB2 and other related genes are amplified
in late stage neuroblastomas and rhabdomyosarcomas. ERBB2 encodes HER2 which is a member of

Spruce Budworm Research Paper
Spruce budworm (Choristoneura fumiferana (Clemens)) outbreaks have an important effect on
succession of balsam fir (Abies balsamea (L.) Mill.) and spruce (Picea spp.) stands in eastern
Canadian forests (MacLean 2004). Spruce budworm feeds repeatedly on annual shoots of balsam fir
and spruce and leads to large scale growth reduction and mortality (MacLean and Ostaff 1989). When
overstory tree mortality occurs from defoliation, it creates gaps that allow understory plants to get an
opportunity to release (Osawa 1994; Kemball et al. 2005). Defoliation also changes the competitive
interactions between host fir spruce and non host species and may release the latter.
Research by Su et al. (1996) revealed that different hardwood content in stands influences balsam fir
defoliation and mortality caused by spruce budworm. Defoliation and mortality are less in stand with
high hardwood content than in stands with low hardwoods (MacLean 1980; Bergeron et al. 1995; Su
et al. 1996). This results in higher canopy openness in stands with high conifer content than in high

The absence of a balsam fir seedling bank prior to the outbreak could be due to unfavorable litter or
soil conditions (Greene et al. 1999), higher competition by shrubs prior to the outbreak (Kneeshaw

bank during an epidemic will lead to lack of fir recruitment (Bouchard et al. 2007). But in research by
Spence and MacLean (2012) there was a different result: in immature stands the intolerant hardwood
regenerations post disturbance (4% 27%) was higher than pre disturbance (0%). But the percentage of
intolerant hardwood regeneration eventually decreased (from 19% 44% to 4% 25%). This suggests
that in immature stands may still have a higher balsam fir composition over

much as Amir loves his father, Baba treats Hassan with more respect and affection. Even though that
Amir is Baba s son, he feels that he does not receive the same or even more amount of love he
deserves. After eavesdropping on their conversation, Amir believes that he must to win the upcoming
annual Kite Runner event with Hassan to redeem his father affection. Furthermore, using the same
evidence, Baba also quotes A boy who won t stand up for himself becomes a man who can t stand up
for anything (The Kite Runner, Baba). When Amir goes back to Kabul after escaping the Soviet Union
invasion to find Hassan s son, he meets an unknown man soon realizing that this man was Assef.
While confronting Assef and demanding that he return Sohrab Hassan s son he is beaten for cowardly
leaving Kabul. And to redeem the words of his father s quote, he courageously rescues Sohrab.

Little Boy Research Paper
The city was hidden by that awful cloud . . . boiling up, mushrooming, terrible and incredibly tall, said
Colonel Paul Tibbets, pilot of the modified B 29 bomber that dropped the world s first atomic bomb
over Hiroshima. The bombings resulted in the death of thousands, including not only Japanese
citizens, forces, and military but also American captive soldiers. In the midst of World War II the
United States forced Japan to surrender by dropping bombs in the major cities of Hiroshima and
Nagasaki. They released the second atomic bomb shortly after, in Nagasaki, Japan.
Little Boy and Fat Man were the first atomic bombs created, and delivered revolutionary damage.
Little Boy was the first bomb to detonate over Japan. Approximately 90% of people within half a mile
from the location of the explosion died almost instantly. Only about 10% of buildings in Hiroshima
remained standing or undamaged. The massive explosion happened so fast that clothing patterns
burned into the skin of victims far enough away to avoid instant death. Along with this, the blinding
flash of light ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just three days later, Japan refused to acknowledge the declaration s request. The United States began
performing tests using gadgets, much smaller versions of the newly created atomic bombs, to ensure
that Little Boy would work properly. The day after the bomb was ready to launch, a typhoon hit Japan
delaying the mission for several days. Japan used this time to attack the USS Indianapolis by
submarine, causing it to sink. Many died as a result, and survivors weren t rescued until three days
after. Little boy completed its assembly on July thirty first, and was officially assigned its target,
Hiroshima. Little Boy flew over Japan and dropped from the B 29 bomber on August

Essay On Two Holes In One
Two Holes in One What comes to mind when you think of paradise? As the world becomes more
populated, technology advances, and cities expand, people from across the country have been driven
to escape the stress of urban life. Not everyone is lucky enough to appreciate the beauty of nature but
for those who can, Montana is tantalizing. The western state is best defined by its diverse terrain that
includes the Rocky Mountains, Glacier National Park, Beaverhead Deerlodge National Forest, and a
portion of Yellowstone National Park. Amongst the snow capped peaks are alpine hiking trails and
countless rivers filled with several species of trout such as rainbow and westslope cutthroat. Many of
the solitary trout fishing waters of Montana have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the end of the thick fly line what is called a leader and tippet is attached. As clarified by Clint
Loose in his article Fly Fishing Leader and Tippet: What, Why, and How the fly fishing leader and
tippet are what provide a nearly invisible transition from the fly line to the fly. (Loose) Aside from the
advances in fly line, the material used to manufacture rods has changed drastically. What was once
bamboo, today the most common material for fly fishing rods is carbon graphite fiber, although
bamboo rods are still made for connoisseurs of tradition. Dave Pellar prefers the new school rods and
enjoys taking advantage of the latest techniques. In modern day fly fishing, flies have adapted from
feathers on a hook to complex designs using feathers, foam, wire, beads, and various other materials.
Although there are countless versions, the main distinction of flies is dry or wet. Dry flies float on the
surface of the water and resemble a freshly downed bug while wet flies sit below the surface and
resemble a submerged bug floating downstream. It is safe to say that the wide variety of potential
techniques and the complexity of the sport is partially responsible for Dave s love for it. All trout
anglers have their own personal techniques but some are well known. For example many strategic
fisherman will observe what flies have been hatching at that time and they will match their artificial
fly to the hatch that is currently occurring. Aside from

DNA is made up of six smaller molecules a five carbon sugar called deoxyribose, a phosphate molecule and four different nitrogenous bases adenine, thymine, cytosine and guanine. The basic building block of DNA is called a NUCLEOTIDE. A nucleotide is made up of one sugar molecule, one phosphate molecule and one of the four bases. In other words, the sugar that makes DNA is ribose a pentose sugar in the case of this molecule DNA its lacking an Oxygen in its carbon 2. The nitrogenous bases in DNA are divided into two Purines [Adenine and Guanine] and Pyrimidines [Thymine, Cytosine, and uracil in RNA] Purines are double ring structures, and Pyrimidines are Single ringed. In other words, they provide the perfect asymmetry of the DNA double helix. When Watson and Crick did their DNA model, they noticed that two Purines bonded together meaning for instance A G was too wide, and too Pyrimidines bonded together would be too thin. It starts when she steal 40,000 dollars from her boss to run away with her boyfriend. It s late and she decides to check into a motel, the Bates Motel. At the motel, she encounters a middle aged man named Norman Bates. He becomes morbidly obsessed with her. But he then kills her...dressed as his dead mom. There is a show that acts as a prequel to Hitchcock s masterpiece; Bates Motel. It is focused on Norman Bates and his mother, Norma Bates whereas the movie is focused on Marion Craine. Bates Motel is a very well written show, with great acting, and is filled with a ton of textbook psychology. There are very many different subplots in the show, but this paper is strictly going to analyze Norman and his relationship with his mother. It goes very in depth about the very troubling relationship between a son and mother, and how it led to Norman developing a dangerous persona of his mom. You could even say that Norman has an Oedipus conflict. An Oedipus conflict is apart of one of the psychosexual stages thought of by Sigmund Freud. He believed that during the age of 3 6, a child developed feelings for the parent of the opposite sex. And the only way to get over that feeling was to identify with his father. His Oedipus conflict would go on to never be resolved because his father was abusive. The series starts off after Norman hits his father in the head with a blender, killing him. His mom covers it up and makes it look like an accident to protect Norman. His father had been very abusive to him and his mother. Child abuse is said to be one of the most common causes of many mental illnesses. In this case, the abuse caused him to dissociate, or go off into his own little world where he felt safe in. It was very traumatic for a young Norman and his mother. People who tend to experience very traumatic things together have a stronger bond than those who don t. In 1994, one in five children between the ages of 6 and 17 was overweight. This is double the rate of 30 years ago (National Center for Health Statistics, 1999). This adverse trend has potentially profound effects on children s health, including their long term health. The terms obese and overweight often are used interchangeably. Technically, obesity is the upper end of overweight. Researches studies differ on whether obese consume more energy (calories) than non obese individuals. Some show they do consume more; others show they may consumer fewer calories. The big difference may be in the type of nutrients that they consume, such as fat. For example, Gazzaniga, found that the percentage of body fat was positively correlated with total dietary fat. Still, other researchers suggest that the reasons are metabolic in origin and that obese individuals process foods differently resulting in an increase in body fat. Although how these factors affect obesity are not fully understood, one thing is clear: Obesity results when energy intake exceeds energy expenditure and is stored as fat. Ellyn Satter (1987), author of Child of Mine: Feeding with Love and Good Sense, firmly believes in the importance of the feeding relationship and its implications for obesity. The feeding relationship is the interaction that takes place between parents and children around food. Obese children need to learn to listen to their internal cues of hunger and appetite. Parents and childcare providers must help them do so. This includes encouraging children to eat according to these cues, while acknowledging the emotional aspect of feeding and eating. A restrictive diet may make the child feel deprived and neglected, and exacerbate the overeating problem. Children and adolescents who watched the most TV were more obese than ... Like most studies the practitioner needs to create a hypothesis that is actually testable and test it on a group of people they can get. The participants are the foundation to the whole study. With them you are able to prove whether your hypothesis was correct or not. These and many more factors are why psychological studies are incredibly to execute and do properly. The hypothesis of this study states, Participants who had been primed with the elderly stereotype would walk more slowly compared to participants who had not been primed with the stereotype relevant stimuli . This basically means that the experimenter believes that words related to the elderly population and none related will affect the rate in which the participants walk. Their hypothesis seems achievable because in my experiences I find that we as people relate to word association and because of this our behaviors can be slightly modified to match the words presented. This hypothesis is seems testable because it doesn t seem completely absurd due to the actual experiment they planned to conduct. In this specific study, they are aiming to construct an environment where participants will have to unscramble words either related to elderly concepts or non elderly concepts. Yet from this well known tale, many stories have stemmed into their own interesting aspects of virtually the same plot with similar characters. One of the related stories is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë. Brontë uses the main character Jane as Cinderella who finds her prince charming. Even though Jane Eyre contains more about human nature and less of magic, it still resembles the Cinderella archetype through Jane s early life and her relationship with Rochester. Jane finds Rochester rather than the prince looking for Cinderella, but the emotional evolution and plot is the same. Also, the rich vs. poor aspect is existent. In the end, both stories end with hero and heroine together in a happy ending. This closely entwined connection gives the reader a feel of unoriginality despite the differences. The hugely obvious parallels overshadow those differences. Symbolism and superior development of characters are blurred together and covered by the relationship to the fairytale, which is easier to analyze. The novel greatly suffers from the comparison to Cinderella. From Jane and Cinderella s analogous background, the reader easily assigns a Cinderella personality to Jane on first glance due to their similarities. The dramatic events concerning Jane and Rochester are perceived in a rather simplified manner from the relationship to the fairytale. A Brief Note On Book The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn Sarah Jane Reshetiloff Mr. O Hearn Honors British Literature 26 September 2015 Social Satire in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Mark Twain s novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a masterful social satire that demonstrates the awakening of a young, adventurous boy living in a culture of slavery. He uses humor and an unreliable narrator to convey social satire in the novel to reflect the flaws of society toward in the antebellum south. The novel was published in 1884, just after slavery was abolished in 1865. As a result of a century of fire suppression, successional trajectories have been significantly altered, in that ponderosa pine and dry mixed conifer forests have become increasingly dense with late successional, non fire adapted trees and excess accumulations of surface fuels (Parsons and Debenedetti 1979, Higgens et al., 2015). Improved understanding of the processes of successional changes in mixed conifer forests will help facilitate management efforts to sustain the many resources valued in these ecosystems (Meng, 2015). Though many studies of post fire succession exist, due to methodological constraints at the temporal scale, many studies are limited to either long term (Abella et al. 2015, O Connor et al. 2014, Odion et al., 2014) succession or short term (Higgens et al. 2014, Keeling et al. 2006, Mast Wolf 2006) successional studies or monitoring permanent plots for successive years (Moore et al. 2004). We propose to quantify a space for time sequence of successional trajectories across the greater landscape of the Coconino National Forests area. This approach assumes the only difference between sites is due to age; however, because forest stands vary due to environmental and management ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Memoirs of a Geisha and the Bluest Eye Essay example Comparison Essay of Memoirs of a Geisha and the Bluest Eye Memoirs of a Geisha by Aurthor Golden and The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison are two thought provoking books with a unique style of writing. Memoirs of a Geisha has a beautiful poetic grammar which captures readers imagination and brings the story to life. Morrison on the other hand uses combined voices to give varied perspectives with out resorting to authorial intrusion or preaching. Memoirs Of A Geisha and the bluest eye both contain graphic realism combined with a dramatic flair, which is the key as to why both of these books have been a great success. Pecola however envies Shirly Temple because she has blue eyes and is beautiful. All of the parents adore Shirly temple because of the beauty she possesses. Both books involve hatred, selfishness, jealousy, love and betrayal. Memoirs of a Geisha has several different themes entwined in to the story, what I take to be the theme of this memoir is that a person can accomplish anything in life if they have set their mind on it and if they believe they can get there. Never giving up hope and always looking for a brighter day will eventually lead you to what you re out there searching for. In Sayuri s case, she was a slave who won the heart of a man and worked herself up to become one of the most successful geishas in all of Japan and to be united with the man she loved who motivated her all her life. I feel people should learn to be courageous from Sayuri and never give up dreaming because I believe that if you want something badly, you can transform your dreams into realties. This theme that is illustrated in Memoirs of a Geisha is most probably the opposite of what happens in The Bluest Eye. This however is not saying that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A lot of people cannot even start their day of without having milk. A typical person who has lived in US, and drinks milk on a daily basis probably believes that majority of the world s population is also able to consume milk. However, research has shown that majority of the world s population (70%)* is not able to digest milk. Milk contains a sugar called lactose. * Breakdown of lactose is the major determining factor in whether a person s body is able to digest milk or not. All mammals can digest milk in infancy but once they stop drinking milk, they stop producing the enzyme lactase*. The enzyme lactase breaks down disaccharide sugar lactose into monosaccharide sugars of glucose and galactose*. A person s ancestral history is a major factor in determining whether he/she will lactose intolerant or intolerant. A higher proportion of people of East Asian, Southeast Asian and Native American are more likely to not be able to digest milk.* A person is considered Lactose Intolerance when he/she is not able to break down a great amount of the sugar lactose. * Majority of the lactose tolerance individuals come from Northern European ancestry*. When they made it to America the future generations started to stray from their belief. In 1666 and 1741 two writers tried to use two different scare tactics to get them back in good graces with God. They both mainly focused on eternal life, human moral weakness, relationship between God and person, and religious beliefs. Eternal Life is something we as humans all all Puritans strive to have. Who would not want to see God? In Bradstreet s poem Upon the Burning of Our House , she compares her home to the Heaven above. My hope and treasure lies above (54). She gave all of her faith into her home and trusted that because her home was in order that God would accept her completely. However the Lord said Set thine house in order, for thou shalt die and not live (Isaiah 38:1). When the Lord said this to his people, he didn t actually want them to go home and clean, but to get their personal selves together before God returns. Bradstreet took that line to literal; however, Edwards knew the true meaning. In Edwards Sinners In the Hands of An Angry God , God will have no other use to put you to, but to suffer misery (p.11). The tumour suppressing genes and oncogenes act in complementary fashion to one another; one pulls forward, and the other pushes back ensuring that the cell cycle occurs in a controlled manner (Sherr, 2004). Oncogenes were discovered in the 1960s, when it was discovered that some animal cancers such as lymphomas were caused by viruses. Some of these viruses were notable due to the simplicity of their RNA genome. These viruses only had three distinct transcription units, involved in the replication of the virus (coat proteins and reverse transcriptase etc.), and an extra gene. This was an oncogene. When oncogenes are properly functioning they are termed proto oncogenes (Todd R, 1999). Their normal function is to control cell proliferation. These function in growth signalling pathways, and conversely to tumour suppressing cells are activated through a gain in function rather than a loss of it. This occurs in two ways, by producing more of a product, or producing a subtly different product, as a result of a mutation similar to tumour suppressor genes (Croce, 2008). Mill.) and spruce (Picea spp.) stands in eastern Canadian forests (MacLean 2004). Spruce budworm feeds repeatedly on annual shoots of balsam fir and spruce and leads to large scale growth reduction and mortality (MacLean and Ostaff 1989). When overstory tree mortality occurs from defoliation, it creates gaps that allow understory plants to get an opportunity to release (Osawa 1994; Kemball et al. 2005). Defoliation also changes the competitive interactions between host fir spruce and non host species and may release the latter. Research by Su et al. (1996) revealed that different hardwood content in stands influences balsam fir defoliation and mortality caused by spruce budworm. Defoliation and mortality are less in stand with high hardwood content than in stands with low hardwoods (MacLean 1980; Bergeron et al. 1995; Su et al. 1996).
