Comparing Attentional Capture By Rare And Constant, Novel,...
Attentional Capture by Rare and Constant, Novel, Sudden Onset Stimuli
Samuel Tong (450472150)
ABSTRACT
Novel and rare sudden onset stimuli are known to attract attention in different situations. Previously
Yantis Jonides (1990) have shown novel sudden onsets capture attention mainly when attention is
diffuse, and Neo Chua (2006) have shown rare sudden onsets capture attention so long as attention is
not already pre deployed to a stationary target. The current study aims to examine the interaction
between rarity of a novel, sudden onset and attention pre deployment by cues or stationary targets, and
how this interaction affects the attentional capture of novel sudden onsets. In doing so, a better
understanding of how these stimuli affect attentional processes may be established. Based upon the
experimental findings, it is proposed that when a sudden onset stimulus is both rare and novel, the
attentional capture processes when perceiving these stimuli are influenced by perceptual load and
modes of attention. Implications of these findings are discussed further in the paper.
Attentional Capture by Rare and Constant Novel Sudden Onset Stimuli
Attentional capture is controlled by top down, goal orientated processes, or by bottom up, stimulus
orientated processes (Wolfe, 1994, as cited by Emerson Kramer, 1997). Stimuli that appear suddenly,
or sudden onset stimuli, are known to attract attention in a bottom up fashion (Donderi, Zelnicker

Toddler Classroom Observation
Toddlers and preschoolers are at different developmental stages, and therefore require their teachers to
use different approaches and techniques to further learning. I completed my observations at the Bright
and Early Children s Learning Center where I observed a toddler classroom and a preschool
classroom. My observations took place from 8:00 a.m. 11:00 a.m. on the 21st and 28th of September.
The first day that I observed I was placed in the toddler classroom which had two teachers, Miss
Ashlynn and Miss Miranda, and six students, most of whom were two years old. In the preschool
classroom there was one teacher, Miss Stephanie, and eight students, each of whom were 3 years old
or 4 years old. While the rooms were physically similar, the teachers used different strategies and
activities to appeal to the different age groups. In the toddler classroom, the children interacted with
each other, however many of them were more interested in playing and exploring on their own. The
children enjoyed free play at learning centers, story time, and outside play during my observation. The
toddlers preferred parallel play in which the children used similar toys in similar ways, but did not
interact with each other. For example, when one child began playing with the kitchen toys in the
dramatic play center, soon all of the children began playing with the available plastic food items.
However, the children were more interested in showing the teachers what they were doing and

Chronic Pneumonia Research Paper
Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi. There are many
subcategories for pneumonia but in this paper I will be talking about chronic pneumonia. Everyone
shows symptoms of pneumonia differently. The most common symptoms include coughing, fever, and
shortness of breath. Less common include chest pain, headache, Fusion, or fatigue. Chronic
pneumonias are usually caused by slow growing organisms such as fungi or microorganisms. Some
cases of chronic pneumonia can t be diagnosed even by biopsies of lung tissue. There are four main
causes of chronic pneumonia. Histoplasmosis is a fungus commonly found in soil and is associated
with bird droppings. It cannot be passed person to person and can cause both acute ... Show more

When an individual has pneumonia, chronic or acute, their lungs fill with fluid. This can be localized
or spread out. The alveoli get inflamed when they fill with fluid and cause an itching sensation in the
lungs. That itching causes most people to cough, that is the body s natural way to get rid of buildup in
the lungs. Cough suppressants will stop this natural reaction and usually make that individuals
pneumonia last longer. On the other hand, too much coughing will results in scarring on the lungs that
will make the individual more likely to get chronic pneumonia even if they only had acute pneumonia
to begin with. The alveolar wall is formed with simple squamous epithelial cells known as alveolar
cells. Capillaries surround these sacks and allow the exchange of gases. When an individual has
pneumonia the alveoli fill with too much fluid to allow the exchange of

How Does Sharon Russell Create Suspense In The Monkey s Paw
Horror, described by Sharon Russell, should not be by the monster, but instead by the content of the
story or poem. In The Monkey s Paw , Mr. White recieves a monkey s paw, that grants magical
wishes. He first wishes for money but realizes that the money came from the compensation of his son
s death. Later in his wife wishes for his son to come back, but he came back in the form he was
deceased in. Quickly, Mr. White wishes for his son to die again. In this short story W.W. Jacobs
matched what Sharon Russell was saying about how the plot can be seen on how the main character
reacts to the supernatural. Also, The Monkey s Paw has lots of added suspense in a manner of letting
the reader be able to suspect when something abnormal is about to ... Show more content on

Jacobs The Monkey s Paw . In each story, W.W. Jacobs used the elements of suspense, setting, and
how the main character sees the supernatural to show horror to the reader. The suspense of the first
part of the short story that included added suspense is horror because Major Morris described the paw
being the reason of the first man s death. The third part of The Monkey s Paw shows how the main
character views the supernatural added horror because you never knew what Mrs. White would do to
the paw, or what would happen once Mr. White wished upon the paw. Finally, the setting of the first
part of the short story shows horror because it set the mood of a dark, mysterious, old, house that
Sharon Russell said was often found in horror stories. The short story The Monkey s Paw by W.W.
Jacobs has many examples of horror, suspense, which was greatly looked for in Sharon Russell s essay

War Of The Worlds Conflict
The War of the Worlds is a fictional novel written by H.G Wells in the year 1898. It was one of the
first stories that shows a scenario of conflict between the human race and extraterrestrials. It was
published by Dover Publications, Inc with a copyright date set in 1997. The book has 145 pages.
The story takes place in London, England in the final years of the 19th century. The conflict is
external(man vs man) and towards the end of the story, becomes internal(man vs self). All is normal in
London when a missile is seen flying through space with its origins from Mars. Before we know it,
Martians are wreaking havoc throughout London. Later the main character starts to think of the future
for the human race, and struggles with his sanity. We ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most important and critical decisions made was the martian s decision to get rid of bacteria
on their planet thousands of years before. Doing this, their bodies had no need for a resistance against
bacteria. This made the martians very susceptible and vulnerable to disease and viruses contracted
from Earth. Humans have gained a strong resistance over millions of years, because bacteria and
disease has been around since the beginning of time. these germs of disease have taken poll of
humanity since the beginning of things taken tool of our pre human ancestors since life began here.
But by virtue of this natural selection of our kind we have developed resisting power; to no germs do
we succumb without a struggle, and to many does that cause putrefaction in that matter, for instance
our living frames are altogether immune. But there are no bacteria on Mars... (Wells 137). If the
martians had been prepared for this situation, Earth surely would have been doomed, and under
control of the martian pioneers.
Wells truly was one of the most creative writers of his time. In the late 1800s there were no other
writings of extraterrestrials like this one. This book really makes the reader begin to wonder about the
mysteries of life in space, and if humans really are the top of the food chain. Especially during the
time it was written in. This book is every science fiction lover s dream. It shows the possibility of

Design Management for American Apparel
Design Management Project American Apparel: Introduction There are five major design elements,
performance, quality, durability, appearance and cost. The purpose of design is to optimise customer
satisfaction and the profitability of a company by creatively coordinating these five elements in
coherence with the company s products, environments, information, and corporate identity, thus,
connecting the company with the consumer by creating products and services which appeal to the
consumers needs. Design is not solely the shape, dimensions, or purpose of the product; it is the
decision making process that deals with the culmination of the appearance of objects, taking into
consideration the economy, technical function, and making sure ... Show more content on

This stage will end with a clear definition of problems and a plan of how to address them. Key
activities during the define stage are: Project development, project management, and project sign off.
Develop The third quarter indicates a period of development where design led all of solutions to the
problems found in the discovery stage are developed, repeated and tested within the company. The
objectives during the develop stage are: Multi disciplinary working, visual management, development
methods, and testing. Deliver The final quarter of the double diamond model is the delivery stage,
where the resulting product or service is finalized and launched in the relevant market. The delivery
stage also provides feedback for future projects i.e. problems that delayed the project could be
recognized and avoided in future projects. The key activities and objectives during this stage are: Final
testing, approval, launch, targets, evaluation, and feedback loops. Design Management Design
management involves the core functions of the management process and directly links them to the
process of innovation and design. Businesses are facing an increasingly competitive market place with
new innovations and technologies appearing all of the time. Therefore, design is a good way to
differentiate the product from a competitor by making it more aesthetically pleasing and more
functionally effective. Cooper (1997) suggested that

Spirit Baptism Is About The Restoration Of God s Covenant...
The subject of the baptism of the Holy Spirit has driven a wedge between Pentecostals and
Evangelicals. However, both parties fail to understand the original meaning of spirit baptism.
Therefore, this paper analyzes Lee s argument that Spirit Baptism is about the restoration of God s
covenant community. First, I will examine the articles main point along with the information he used
to support his argument. Next, this paper addresses the author s assumptions that are in his article.
This paper concludes by briefly assessing the article.
Summery
Lee s premise is Luke s use of the baptism of the Holy Spirit refers to people being included into God
s covenant community. He proposes that there is a distinction between baptism and terms used to
describe manifestations of the spirit. In other words, Spirit baptism, and the outward evidence of the
spirit are two different things. Therefore, it is unwise to seek answers from Luke to something he did
not address. To demonstrate this point, Lee brings out examples of spirit baptism in Luke s writings.
Supporting Evidence. He begins by comparing John the Baptist s baptism in Luke 3:1 22 to Jesus
baptism of the spirit in Acts 2. He proposes that the baptism of John was symbolic while Christ s
baptism ushered in a new era that would redeem humanity from their living damnation. In other
words, John s baptism was an outward representation of a coming future reality while Jesus s baptism
was the manifestation of that

Professional Athlete Salaries Essay
Professional Athlete Salaries
In today s society many will argue whether or not professional athletes are overpaid. In the present
time athletes are being paid phenomenally large amounts of money for their entertainment. It is my
claim that all professional athletes are overpaid because they do not offer society an essential function
that improves or enhances our world in comparison to other professionals such as medical doctors,
lawyers, and teachers. Society does not value entertainment enough to warrant such high salaries such
as those of many professional athletes. There is no reason that these athletes should demand these
tremendous amounts of money. This is why you have to put into question their reasoning for
demanding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an article from the New York Times Patrick Ewing quotes with the money I m making now I can t
afford to support my family. (E13). This comment is ridiculous; there is no way that a multi
millionaire should have a problem supporting their family. These athletes have to set their priorities
logically and realistically, a person doesn t need a multi million dollar estate they just want one; this is
what angers me. Another aspect that can be touched upon is whether or not they respect the people
who provide their paychecks; those being their fans.
Athletes argue that they are role models for children and endorse products. This is true, but it is what
goes along with the job. I would be prod if I knew that billions and billions of young impressionable
children wanted to be just like me. You should not have to be paid to be a role model, there is no
reason that one should be negative, commit crimes, and do bad things regardless of you being an
athlete or not. It should be an honor to be praised and loved by billions, this is why I feel the reasoning
of the professional athletes that demand higher wages are illegitimate.
The value of entertainment in our society is arguable. We as a society constantly search for new ways
to entertain ourselves; professional sports are a major contribution to our source of entertainment. If
those who support athletes and their sports have no problem paying to see them,

Martyrs To X-Rays
Martyrs To The X Rays The discovery of X rays was costly. Many lost their lives in the process and
those who survived with severe physical deformities were considered fortunate. Their determination is
inspiring and their work was a life changer.
The Beginning Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen discovered X rays on November 8, 1895. About 14 days
after Roentgen first noticed radiation activity, a man by the name of Friedrich Walkhoff performed the
first dental X ray. He did the X ray on himself first for twenty five minutes and then on patients for
thirty. Mr. Walkhoff only noticed hair loss on his patients around the exposed area, nothing he
considered significant (Sansare, Khanna, Karjodkar, 2011, p. 1). Minor effects of radiation were first
noticed in 1896 by Nikola Tesla ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was not until 1904 when William Rollins leaded the tube housing, installed the collimator, and did
many experiments on pregnant guinea pigs to conclude that X rays can kill fetus . Rollins was the first
to give many contributions to radiation protection. In 1907 an X ray manufacturer by the name of
Rome Wagner had the first idea of film badges. He would carry a photographic plate in his pocket to
see if he was getting too much exposure and then develop it each night. Wagner was unable to perfect
his idea because he died six months later from cancer (Kathern, Ziemer, 1980, p. 3). In the 1920 s
other methods of protection were introduced. The film badge became a routine monitoring device. The
unit to measure radiation was established and named the Roentgen, and the first tolerance dose was
created (Kathern, Ziemer 1980, p. 4). One might classify radiation protection as quite the traveler
since its journey transcended through both the Pioneer Era and the Era of Progress. Today s
advancements include a reduction in exposure time to milliseconds and a switch to digital (Sansare, et
al., 2011,

The Third Movement Of Johann Sebastian Bach
Johann Sebastian Bach lived in Leipzig from 1723 until his death in 1750. In Leipzig, he was the
music director of the Collegium Musicum, which presented a series of evening concerts that brought
visitors and musical talent to the city. An example of the repertoire presented in these concerts would
be Bach s harpsichord concertos, which were arrangements of other concertos for different
instruments. According to Pankratz, these concertos (both for the original instrument and harpsichord)
were written with didactic purposes, meaning that they were supposed to help the students improve
their musical skills. Following Pankratz s idea of Bach being a music director with instructive goals,
this paper suggests that the third movement of the Harpsichord Concerto No.5 in F minor, BWV 1056
by Johann Sebastian Bach is a prime example of his pedagogic influence in Leipzig, represented by
the constant interaction between the soloist and the ripieno. This is symbolic of the teacher student
relation Bach had with the students, as he would often be the solo performer in the evening concerts
and the students would play the ripieno parts.
The interaction between the soloist and the ripieno comes in various forms: advanced counterpoint,
dynamics, dialogue, and/or harmonic changes. The work features three ritornello themes in which we
find all these interactions. The first theme (R1) is the main theme and it is four measures long. The
interaction is presented with the soloist simply playing

How Do Arunta Tribes Reflect Their Society
The Arunta are a group of Australian Aborigines who have many customs and reasons for why they do
what they do. Their customs reflect their society because everything they do has a reason. Some
customs may have come about because of the environment, the natural resources, or possibly just
beliefs. There are several customs about family and kinship. An Arunta camp usually has one to two
families. The Arunta live in such small groups so they do not have to worry about hunting a lot of food
for big camps. If their camp were attacked, it would be a lot easier to look after a small amount of
people and belongings. It may be more efficient to hunt in larger groups, because you have more of a
chance to find animals, and if one person were to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the Arunta men were staying away from camp hunting for several days, it would be easier to care
for five or six men instead of twenty. It would also be easier to be able to come home with only a little
meat and still be able to find the whole camp. An Arunta family is usually by itself, but each family
belongs to a clan. The clan is made up of several families, who hunt and live separately. Nevertheless,
the members of the clan are all related. This is kinship. The Arunta clans have to marry outside their
own clan so the clans will mix. The clans have no other social connections so this is very important.
Without this custom, the clans would not be friendly with each other and wars would probably happen
often. There are no forms of government or authority, so the older men of the society make decisions
for the society. They have no way of giving reasons for their decisions, so they are guides more than
they are leaders. Kinship is very important here because if a serious crime erupts, such as murder,
families will take revenge on families. The family is important because if the murderer?s family were
small, they would surely suffer a great deal. Kindness and respect are very important in a society
because the Arunta have no time for warfare and feuds. They need to spend all their time trying to
survive. When someone dies, the family goes into a mourning period. The relatives of the person show
sadness by cutting their shoulders, smearing

Examples Of Romanticism In The Great Gatsby
The book of The Great Gatsby, by author F. Scott Fitzgerald, is a story that has two parts in the
philosophy of the characters way of living. There is the type of character that opposes the other one in
a certain way. There are many types of philosophies in the characters, but the philosophies of
Romanticism and Realism are represented many times in The Great Gatsby. Although they never
specifically mention it, several characters in Great Gatsby experience signs of a Romanticist
philosophy.
Romanticism is defined as a literary, artistic, and philosophical movement characterized chiefly by a
reaction against neoclassicism and an emphasis on the imagination and emotions, and marked
especially in English literature by sensibility and the use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In pg 76, the philosophy of Romanticism can be inferred from her reaction after reading the letter and
getting as drunk as a monkey the night before her wedding, leaving her in a state of confusion and
anguish. This leaves her deciding in what to do, which then she marries Tom. Eventually, she regrets
taking this decision after having the choice of having either one. Another example of Romanticism
represented by her, is when she cries after Gatsby shows his variety of shirts in pg. 92. Again, Daisy
falls into Gatsby s trap of him trying to impress her with his wealth. After 5 years lost, she begins to
regret marrying Tom, and wishing she had spent that time with Gatsby, which was impossible to do,
caused by Gatsby s time in war and studies in Oxford. This reunion in Gatsby s mansion, makes both
of them fantasize that they are together and makes them believe that there is still hope to live together
happily as a couple. From here, they begin to have affairs and this makes the romance and belief
stronger, which then leads to Gatsby accepting to face the problem: Tom. He believes that things must
be done the respectful way by talking to him like adults, but Daisy opposes that idea. Here, Daisy
shows Romanticism again, while Gatsby is being realistic. Unfortunately, the confrontation between
the love triangle leads to Gatsby s assassination after Myrtle, Tom s mistress and George Wilson s
wife, is hit by Gatsby s yellow car that Daisy was

Everyday Use Theme
Everyday Use By Alice Walker
In Alice Walker s short story Everyday Use Mama is the narrator. She speaks of her family of two
daughters Maggie and Dee. Through the eyes of two daughters, Dee and Maggie, who have chosen to
live their lives in very different manners, the reader can choose which character to identify most with
by judging what is really important in one s life. Throughout the story three themes consistently show.
These themes show that the family is separated by shame, knowledge, and pride.
Maggie is shamed from her scares of being burnt by their previous house. As her mother describes,
She has been like this, chin on chest, eyes on ground, feet in shuffle, ever since the fire that burned the
other house to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maggie is mostly saying Uhnnnh if anything at all throughout the whole story. Mama portrays Maggie
as a girl who will stand hopelessly... homely and ashamed of the burn scars down her arms and legs
from the fire, and who feels inferior to Dee (Walker 86). These burns and scars that Maggie has may
be the reason of her lack of knowledge simply because she was ashamed to be in the learning
atmosphere. Dee, unlike Maggie, is very brilliant. There seems to be some tension and or jealousy of
how smart Dee is. Mama and Maggie used to listen to Dee read to them while they where trapped
sitting there ignorantly. Mama said it was knowledge they didn t need to know. She also said that she
often fought off the urge to shake her. Since Mama didn t get a chance to go to school, she feels
inferior to Dee s skill of knowledge. Mama s tension is because she didn t get a chance to learn as
much as Dee has (Walker 87 88).
Pride is the theme that seems to separate this family the most. It s having pride versus not having it.
Maggie doesn t have it. She does not speak for herself when Dee wants the quilts. She lets mama
speak for her. Like a scalded dog, she hides behind Mama when Dee arrives. Mama compares Maggie
to a Lame animal...run over by a car... (Walker 88). Pride mostly comes from respect and she doesn t
get much. Dee maybe has too much pride. This probably comes from the world not knowing how to
say no to her. She has looks and she s what one would describe as

Relationship With Alison
It becomes known that Alison s father had occasional affairs with other men, including the babysitter,
Roy. Without the images that Bechdel creates, the extent of their scandalous relationship wouldn t be
revealed properly. Roy is first seen in the family library, drinking with Alison s father. Such a
suspension of the imaginary in the real was, after all, my father s stock in trade. And living with it took
a toll on the rest of us (65). The text is about the father liking Fitzgerald because of the characters
experiencing what he can t. Seeing this text over images of him with Roy, it s now understood that the
father is suspending his imagination of being with Roy. He lets Roy, an underage boy, drink sherry
with him until Alison s mother comes in and informs him that he s late to pick John up, which is how
we see the father s actions taking a toll on the family. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

every scene with Roy, he is offering him a drink. On page 94, there are a series of images where Roy
comes to help with yardwork, and the father first gives him a beer to drink before they start. This
reoccurring detail is something that made me feel slightly uneasy about the father s character.
Obviously, it doesn t bother me that he is gay, but the fact that he always wants to get the boys tipsy to
possibly influence their judgment, doesn t sit right with me. This very problem is what gets him in
trouble with the law later

Role of Nature and Nurture in Language Development
How do both nature and nurture interact in the promotion of language development in young children?
The debate between many researchers is the argument of whether nature or nurture play a more
important role in development. In this essay I will be looking into both aspects of nature and nurture
focusing specifically on their influence towards language development in children. A main
controversial question I will be looking into is the question of whether are we born already equipped
with mechanisms which help us to learn language, or is language learned throughout a child s
environment by, for example, imitation and repetition? Studies done by some opposing researchers
claim to show that nature and nurture promote language development ... Show more content on

Although Jim did learn speech it became noticeably odd to others around him as he had developed his
own, unique grammatical characteristics and his poor articulation meant he didn t acquire normal
language skills (Sachs et al 1981). Bruner suggests that this was due to lack of social interaction in his
learning of speech, which again highlights the importance of nurture in promoting a child s language
development.
However, it can be argued with (Bruner 1964) that social interaction doesn t explain all the
complexities of language acquisition. Almost every day the language we hear is often incorrect, poorly
defined, incomplete and full of hesitations, mispronunciations and other errors, and yet despite this we
still learn to talk following the correct grammatical rules. Again this indicates the idea of Chomsky s
(1968) LAD model that children are born hard wired with the innate knowledge of linguistic rules and
so these rules help the baby make estimations and presumptions about the language it is hearing. From
these estimations and presumption the child can work out grammatical sets of rules and when more
language is exposed to them, the more their language develops. Even within Chomsky s (1968) LAD
theory, undoubtedly he believed the role and promotion of the nature aspect is the core foundation on
which language can develop. But his theory also requires the role of nurture

Essays, Not Rants! 203: Window Dressing Taxis are in a rush. That s a known fact (that I thought as I

The arcade style driving game has you speeding around a time, picking up customers and dropping
them off as quick as you can. It s fun, and an excellent time and/or quarter sink. But how vital is the
taxi part of Crazy Taxi? Sure, speeding around an ersatz San Francisco and dodging trucks is great,
but does it need that taxi ness that surrounding narrative to work? Strip away all the window dressing
and the game s mechanics are quite simple: the player drives around an area getting objectives which,
when completed well, nets the player more points and time. Could be in space, could be blocks

Risk Factor For Global Disease Burden
Essential or primary hypertension, the world s leading risk factor for global disease burden, is
expected to cause more than half of the estimated 17 million deaths per year resulting from
cardiovascular disease (CVD) worldwide.1 Defined as an elevation of blood pressure (BP) beyond
140/90 mm Hg, hypertension is strongly correlated with adverse outcomes such as stroke, ischemic
heart disease, heart failure, and end stage renal disease. The challenges of managing hypertension and
preventing the development of these latter outcomes are unlikely to relent; the global burden of
hypertension is projected to increase by 60% to affect approximately 1.6 billion adults worldwide by

The challenges highlighted are pertinent to many populations. Many low and middle income

prevalence of hypertension in the context of limited healthcare resources. In these countries, diagnosis

Women In Sir Gawain
Sir Gawain and the Attitude Towards Women
The portrayal of women is constantly being evaluated, in television shows to politics. The gender
stereotypes surrounding women are archaic compared to the complete overhaul that the rest of the
world has experienced. The 14th century poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight expresses the gender
stereotypes at the time: women seen as property of their husbands, being temptations to men and
causing their downfall. The unknown author of the poem writes of Sir Gawain, a young,
inexperienced knight who enters into a Christmas game with the elusive Green Knight and then
embarks on a quest to seek out the Green Knight. He encounters the tempting Lady at Lord Bertilak s
castle and discovers that his quest was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One critic who agrees with this interpretation is Geraldine Heng. She writes that women dominate and
shape the destinies of men... Plan[s]... initiated by one woman are directed at another, performed by a
third and modulated by the actions of a fourth (Source G). Heng claims the whole plot of the poem is
directed by women, it is initiated by Morgan le Fey to affect Guenevere and then is carried out by
Mary and the Lady who leads Gawain to the Lord s castle and seduce him, respectively. This
interpretation of the role of women in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight claims that women have
power over the men in the story, portraying women in a positive light. However, the plot that is
instigated by women is rooted in malicious intent from a woman towards another woman. As the
Green Knight says that Morgan le Fey put this shape upon me to puzzle your wits / To afflict the fair
queen, and frighten her to death (2459 2460). Morgan le Fey wants revenge against Guenevere for as
legend has it, stopping a romantic affair she has with one of Authur s knights. This petty and trivial
quarrel is the basis of the poem s plot. This vengeance pits women against each other and causes
Gawain to undergo an immense journey that without this trivial fight would never happen. The plot is
not driven by powerful

sorry, Todrick started, I abandoned you when you needed me most but i didn t know what to do. I
thought i had lost you and I didn t know how i was going to recover. I didn t know what to tell anyone

The wolf continued advancing toward Todrick. Whatever happens I completely deserve but if there is

stopped just inches away from Todrick. Suddenly sirens erupted around the corner and swarmed

Men in padded uniforms stepped out with weapons that ordinary police officers didn t carry around.
Todrick got up quickly, Sir step away we have animal control here ready to put this beast down.

Religion In The Book Of Ephesians
Each verse in this passage is in the contexts of what a relationship between a husband and wife should
be. Paul writes as if he is speaking directly to husbands and their wives. Wives, submit to your
husbands as to the Lord, because the husband is the head of the wife as also Christ is the head of the
church he himself being the savior of the body. Husbands, love your wives just as Christ loved the
church and gave himself for her to sanctify her by cleansing her with the washing of the water by the
word, so that he may present the church to himself as glorious not having a stain or wrinkle, or any
such blemish, but holy and blameless. The passage itself is in the context of how the body of Christ is

In the context of the book as a whole, Paul is trying to encourage the believer in Ephesus by showing
how Christ is bringing a people together for himself that is made up of Jews and Gentiles. This is to
show his ultimate glory and triumph. The book of Ephesians itself is broken down into nine sections.
The first section Paul starts off with praising God. Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ. (Eph. 1:3) Paul praises God for two things, spiritual blessings and the redemption in Christ.
(Eph. 1:3 14) Next Paul takes time to give thanks and prays for the Ephesian believers in his letter. He
prays for they that might have wisdom and revelation so that they can be encouraged about what God
is doing. This of course sets the stage for the rest of his letter. In the third section, Paul talks about
reconciliation to God through Jesus. (2:1 10) He mentions that this is achieved by grace

Popular Vote Dbq
History has shown us that some leaders are great and others are not. Such as George Washington who
was a great leader and the people loved him. King George III did not have a great reputation in the
colonies of America. They were not happy with how he was leading and taxing the colonies. After
America became free, a new way of electing a leader was needed. At first America used the popular
vote to elect leaders and then the people in smaller states started to get upset. They felt as if they were
dirt on the bottom of everybody s shoe and they were not appreciated. So on February 1, 1877 the
United States of America created the Electoral College. The Electoral College was created to give the

There are a larger number of votes because of all the people that live in the United States today. Many
of them are from other countries and are separated into where they are from. The popular vote is what
is decided for the state. It helps the representatives of the state to says which candidate to vote for. The
Electoral College came into the United States in 1877, however that is the way that the U.S. has been
voting for presidents ever since the Electoral College was invented. Only five presidents have won
without the popular vote, now that could be for many reasons. Such as the representatives decided to
vote opposite of the popular vote or it would mean that one party leads more of the country than the
other. Then the country could be able to pass bills or agree with each other. I think that the Electoral
College is needed. It helps the U.S. determine who the next president is. It takes the popular vote and
tells how the section of the state is voting. The states have a certain amount of electors to use and that
will tell whether the stated voted Republican or Democratic. Many people run for the president each
time there is an election and the people always have a favorite. In 2016 it was Hillary Clinton; she lost
to Donald Trump who did not have the popular vote. She was predicted to win the whole election.
However that was not the case. The Electoral College said otherwise and said that Donald Trump won
instead of Hillary. It was the second time for this to happen in 16 years, before Trump it was George
Bush who won without the popular

Nuclear Chemical And Physical Changes
Nuclear chemistry is the study of the chemical and physical changes in the nucleus of an atom. The
field of nuclear chemistry deals with radioactive elements such as radium, radon and the whole
actinides series and the equipment to deal with such elements; such as nuclear reactors. However the
subject itself varies because it deals with the scientific areas such as physics, biology, geology and
chemistry. Nuclear chemistry has help us discover more about the nucleus and has provided advances
in medicine, nuclear weapons and instruments to help scientists in those fields. 1, 2 Nuclear chemistry
focuses on creating electrical energy for power generation and, in some cases, propel ships. This
electrical energy generation comes from the nuclear reactors in nuclear power plants. Nuclear reactors
are built to start up and contain a nuclear chain reaction. These nuclear chain reactions can come in
two forms: linear chain reaction and a critical mass. Both reactions are caused by nuclear fission; this
is when then nuclei of certain isotopes are bombarded with neutrons, causing them to split into smaller
fragments of the nuclei: smaller atoms, a staggering amount of energy and spare neutrons. Since
neutrons have no charge, they can pass through the energy fields of the electrons and protons. A linear
chain reaction is a series of nuclear fissions going in one straight line. In a linear chain reaction, some
of the spare neutrons, caused by fission, produced will hit other nuclei and

The Movie The Wolf On Wall Street Essay
Daring to Defy Drug Abuse
If you have ever seen the movie The Wolf on Wall Street, there is no doubt you have seen the effects
drugs can have. Leonardo DiCaprio portrays a high strung stock broker reliant on a multitude of
illegal drugs to keep up with his hectic life style. His addiction gets so severe that at one point in the
movie, he is lying on the floor, unable to move due to the drugs effects on his body. Even though the
movie is set in the 90 s, a decade infamous for its use of drugs, today, drug usage and abuse has never
been more of an issue. According to Alice Park (2016), More people died of drug overdoses in 2014 in
the U.S. than in any other year (p.49). What people fail to realize is that drug abuse effects more than
just the individual that uses them. The loved ones trying to support the user, the community the user is
in, can all be affected by drug abuse. In fact, all members of society are affected by the abuse of drugs.
In short, no one benefits from drug abuse. In the words of the Nation Institute of Drug Abuse, Drug
abuse is a major public health problem that impacts society on multiple levels. Directly or indirectly,
every community is affected by drug abuse and addiction, as is every family. Drugs take a tremendous
toll on our society at many levels ( Magnitude, 2016).
Obviously, drugs abuse has the most effect on the individual. Drugs of any sort have pronounced
impacts on a user s personal life, mental and physical health as well as their

Argument On The Ontological Argument
1. The Ontological Argument
An argument not based on observation, instead on the reason itself. It is derived from the study of
being (which is obviously ontology)
The first person to propose this theory is St.Anselm, where his argument can be summarized as
follows:
a) God is the greatest being that we ever know.
b) If God doesn t truly exist in reality = There s a greater being out there
c) But... there isn t another greater person than God
d) Therefore, God exists
On the contrary to Anselm s argument, we can t just assume that God exist by just believing in his
existence. Similar to proving a mathematical formula, scientific proofs such as experiment, evidences
and even artifacts are a necessity to verify that God exist. It s almost like ... Show more content on

And that ground zero is God.
One might argue that some things are caused by other things, but this is not the solution to the
problem as those other things have their causes too!
One very common example: who comes first, the chicken or the egg? All chicken had a beginning in
an egg, which is the cause of the chicken. However, every egg had its beginning (its cause ) in another
chicken. As a result, an infinite series of chicken egg chicken egg is found. As a conclusion, there
must be a beginning to everything. This first cause shall be God.
Here is the tricky question where do we even start in order to deduce ground zero for a person s
existence, let alone God s?
If we are unable to truly find out how a thing could even exist and assume the only answer is God
supposing God really didn t exist, how are we going to explain the origins of literally, everything!
With associations to the previous arguments, where they mentioned that God exists as we believe in
his existence, where do we start to find The Beginning ? Exactly, there is no trace of clues to lead us to

Industrialization During The Late Abraham Lincoln
America is the great exception where people can be born of humble origins and rise to the top to
become the next Abraham Lincoln (Pettengill). However, in the Early Republic things began to
change and industrialization created a huge gap between the rich and the poor and made it hard to rise
to the top. Industrialization changed America from an agricultural country to one based on
manufacturing goods and services. This change created advancement and expansion for the nation as a
whole. Industrialization was very helpful to the economy but was an impediment for the working
class, like Sam Patch. In the book, Sam Patch by Paul E. Johnson, it is evident how industrialization
restricted the freedom of the working class and increased the great divide between the rich and the
poor.
The industrial revolution limited the amount of jobs available and created many unskilled labor jobs.
Free labor economy made it possible for skilled workers to make money by independently selling their
products. Industrial engineers found a way to build machines that were faster, more powerful, more
efficient and more reliable than the human muscle. As seen in The American System of
Manufacturers, Joseph Whitworth stated, the laboring class are comparatively few in number, but this
is counter balanced by, and indeed may be regarded as one of the chief causes of, the eagerness with
which they call in the aid of machinery in almost every department of industry (Whitworth 226) This

The Reality Of Reality Tv Essay
It is a given that the culture we consume shapes who we are, more specifically what we view on
television shapes the content of our minds. It is also generally known that children can be easily
influenced by what they see on television. Reality TV is no exception to this rule. It may appear that
reality TV is a benign phenomenon but it is in fact a virus that has quickly diseased our society. More
specifically, it attracts girls most mercilessly by affecting them negatively as to how they perceive
themselves. Indeed, girls who watch reality TV learn that deceit and meanness is normal behaviour in
order to achieve success, begin to self objectify more and have a higher expectation of more drama
and conflict in their lives as well. The reality of reality TV is that it negatively portrays females. Is
there no end to the onslaught on the female gender by television?
According to Melissa Henson, director of communications and public education for the Parents
Television Council, Because girls are seeing people behaving in a negative way on reality programs,
they tend to accept that that s normative behaviour. (Semigram, 1) That may be fine when the
behaviour is positive but what of the behaviour viewed on reality TV? Watching a heavy diet of
meanness and lying in order for females to get ahead has a horrible impact on girls. Does reality TV
really portray meanness and deceit? Yes, it unquestionably does! In fact, an extensive survey done by

George Orwell s Dystopian Novel
It is often debated why populations under totalitarian regimes allow the ten percent minority to control
the massive ninety percent majority with such inhumane tactics. Although the goals of individual
regimes vary on their end goal, the means of achieving that goal are strikingly similar. From the
distribution of propaganda exaggerating national progress, using food and necessary aid as incentive
to increase productivity, to imposing nationwide terror through the deadly pursuit of enemies to the
regime, the blatant commonality between these oppressors is their inventive ways of using fear and
tapping into the human survival instinct to keep the population at bay. These tactics can be seen at
work in George Orwell s dystopian novel 1984 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Winston outlines the predicted economic growth set to occur per Big Brother s multi year plan; The
Times of the nineteenth of December had published the official forecasts of the output of goods of
various classes of consumption goods in the fourth quarter of 1984, which was also the sixth quarter
of the Ninth Three Year Plan. (Orwell 39). Orwell incorporates the multi year plan strategy as a direct
parody of Stalin s tactics during the rise of communism; this tactic has not only been parodied, but
legitimately recreated in other totalitarian regimes like Ethiopia s Dergue regime. Ethiopian scholar
Bahru Zewde summarizes the Dergue version of this tactic, stating, In October 1978, the Derg
announced the National Revolutionary Development Campaign to mobilize human and material
resources to transform the economy, which led to a Ten Year Plan (Zewde). These totalitarian
governments employ multi year plans for economic growth because they serve as a point of structure
and growth in an otherwise chaotic government setting. The majority of citizens are too perplexed
with maintaining their own livelihood that they cannot see the failures of these plans. They all fall to
conformity, accepting that their government s plans are benefitting them when they clearly are not. For
those with the lowest quality of life, they view the plan as the silver lining to their situation as they
blindly follow orders to increase production for

Immigration Benefits And Promotes Urbanization
Immigration benefits and promotes urbanization in New York and Vancouver from 1860 to 1920.
The period from the late 19th century to the early 20th century is important in the urban development
history of Canadian and American. Urbanization is a historical process that contains urban
development. Urbanization is a process of population concentration as well as a process that advanced
production modes substitute backward modes. At the same time, it is also the process to adapt to the
mode of production and to innovate lifestyle. Hence, urbanization is a dynamic process that many
aspects of economics, society and culture comprehensively transform caused by the revolution of
social productive forces.
The urban population boost resulted in various benefits. Immigration is a main propelling force to
urbanization. It also propelled optimization of the urban population structure, shaped the
characteristics of urban residence, and also formed civic multicultural style and features. In my
opinion, immigration benefits and promotes urbanization in Vancouver and New York from 1860 to
1920.
Canada s urbanization was inherently and closely related with that of Europe and North America.
Local factors and communities elite played a significant role in the development of Canada s cities
(especially in western part). Vancouver is a representative of urbanization and immigration from 1860
to 1920. Norbert Magdonald noted that prior to the arrival of the first train in 1887, the townsite

growing their power and from ruling all Hellas. The concept was to move forces slowly and
moderately, devastating Attica, harass the city of Athens, and draw them out to fight land war, while
avoiding naval engagement. . It would not be an easy and quick war, and should avoid any kind of
engagement with Athenian fleet. Sparta had only one means to achieve the desired end state, its Army.
This was possible only by land with the army marching every season from Sparta through Corinth,
conducting operations in Attica and coming back home. Strategic vulnerability was long term
sustainment, lack of funds, and time critical in that Sparta s soldiers as farmers would not be able to
mobilize for long campaigns. However, Athen s military leaders, Pericles particularly, understood that
Athenian sea power would be more effective against Sparta on land than Sparta s land power at sea.
As a conclusion of the analysis of the Sparta s initial strategy, I assess, it was not suitable for a long
term war as Sparta herself was not prepared for a prolonged war. Strategy was acceptable and feasible,
but only during fighting season. So overall success would be questionable considering time sensitivity,
which will give enough time for Athene to recover after fighting season.

Baylor University Admission Essay
From starting kindergarten to approaching to my graduation date, college has always been in my
mind. Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed of attending a university that will help me achieve my
goals and become the person I am destined to be. As I gradually become older, I searched for schools
that will satisfy my expectations. I began to discover what I want from a university; a place that can
help me succeed socially and academically, and help me determine who I am. I came across Baylor
University and discovered that this university is where I belong. With this college, I know I can
receive many benefits and even contribute my ideas. By attending Baylor University, I have
everything I desire in a university and make my contributions to ... Show more content on

It would be an honor to be of the few Nevadan students at the school for me. When researching Baylor
University, I discovered so many factors that influence my decision to attend there. One major factor
is the fact that Baylor University has smaller class ratios and the professors genuinely care about their
students which is a factor most universities lack. I want to expand my academic knowledge and obtain
excellent education opportunities. Another reason of mine is that there is school spirit and a sense of
tradition among the students. I grew up in a small town where our school culture and spirit is
incredibly popular. When I go off to college, I want to have the same experience again. My third and
the final reason is that I want to be part of a university that is rapidly growing and expanding. Baylor
University is slowly gaining national recognition. The University is also undergoing a more selective
acceptance rate which shows that the University is determined to accept students who are hard
workers and committed to Baylor. If I am accepted into Baylor University, it would be such an honor.
Although attending Baylor University would be extremely beneficial to me, there are so many
contributions that I can make to the

  • 2. Comparing Attentional Capture By Rare And Constant, Novel,... Attentional Capture by Rare and Constant, Novel, Sudden Onset Stimuli Samuel Tong (450472150) ABSTRACT Novel and rare sudden onset stimuli are known to attract attention in different situations. Previously Yantis Jonides (1990) have shown novel sudden onsets capture attention mainly when attention is diffuse, and Neo Chua (2006) have shown rare sudden onsets capture attention so long as attention is not already pre deployed to a stationary target. The current study aims to examine the interaction between rarity of a novel, sudden onset and attention pre deployment by cues or stationary targets, and how this interaction affects the attentional capture of novel sudden onsets. In doing so, a better understanding of how these stimuli affect attentional processes may be established. Based upon the experimental findings, it is proposed that when a sudden onset stimulus is both rare and novel, the attentional capture processes when perceiving these stimuli are influenced by perceptual load and modes of attention. Implications of these findings are discussed further in the paper. Attentional Capture by Rare and Constant Novel Sudden Onset Stimuli Attentional capture is controlled by top down, goal orientated processes, or by bottom up, stimulus orientated processes (Wolfe, 1994, as cited by Emerson Kramer, 1997). Stimuli that appear suddenly, or sudden onset stimuli, are known to attract attention in a bottom up fashion (Donderi, Zelnicker 1996, as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Toddler Classroom Observation Toddlers and preschoolers are at different developmental stages, and therefore require their teachers to use different approaches and techniques to further learning. I completed my observations at the Bright and Early Children s Learning Center where I observed a toddler classroom and a preschool classroom. My observations took place from 8:00 a.m. 11:00 a.m. on the 21st and 28th of September. The first day that I observed I was placed in the toddler classroom which had two teachers, Miss Ashlynn and Miss Miranda, and six students, most of whom were two years old. In the preschool classroom there was one teacher, Miss Stephanie, and eight students, each of whom were 3 years old or 4 years old. While the rooms were physically similar, the teachers used different strategies and activities to appeal to the different age groups. In the toddler classroom, the children interacted with each other, however many of them were more interested in playing and exploring on their own. The children enjoyed free play at learning centers, story time, and outside play during my observation. The toddlers preferred parallel play in which the children used similar toys in similar ways, but did not interact with each other. For example, when one child began playing with the kitchen toys in the dramatic play center, soon all of the children began playing with the available plastic food items. However, the children were more interested in showing the teachers what they were doing and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Chronic Pneumonia Research Paper Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi. There are many subcategories for pneumonia but in this paper I will be talking about chronic pneumonia. Everyone shows symptoms of pneumonia differently. The most common symptoms include coughing, fever, and shortness of breath. Less common include chest pain, headache, Fusion, or fatigue. Cough suppressants will stop this natural reaction and usually make that individuals pneumonia last longer. First, I will examine the articles main point along with the information he used to support his argument. Next, this paper addresses the author s assumptions that are in his article. This paper concludes by briefly assessing the article. Summery Lee s premise is Luke s use of the baptism of the Holy Spirit refers to people being included into God s covenant community. He proposes that there is a distinction between baptism and terms used to describe manifestations of the spirit. In other words, Spirit baptism, and the outward evidence of the spirit are two different things. Therefore, it is unwise to seek answers from Luke to something he did not address. To demonstrate this point, Lee brings out examples of spirit baptism in Luke s writings. Supporting Evidence. He begins by comparing John the Baptist s baptism in Luke 3:1 22 to Jesus baptism of the spirit in Acts 2. • 13. The Third Movement Of Johann Sebastian Bach Johann Sebastian Bach lived in Leipzig from 1723 until his death in 1750. In Leipzig, he was the music director of the Collegium Musicum, which presented a series of evening concerts that brought visitors and musical talent to the city. An example of the repertoire presented in these concerts would be Bach s harpsichord concertos, which were arrangements of other concertos for different instruments. According to Pankratz, these concertos (both for the original instrument and harpsichord) were written with didactic purposes, meaning that they were supposed to help the students improve their musical skills. Following Pankratz s idea of Bach being a music director with instructive goals, this paper suggests that the third movement of the Harpsichord Concerto No.5 in F minor, BWV 1056 by Johann Sebastian Bach is a prime example of his pedagogic influence in Leipzig, represented by the constant interaction between the soloist and the ripieno. This is symbolic of the teacher student relation Bach had with the students, as he would often be the solo performer in the evening concerts and the students would play the ripieno parts. The interaction between the soloist and the ripieno comes in various forms: advanced counterpoint, dynamics, dialogue, and/or harmonic changes. The work features three ritornello themes in which we find all these interactions. The first theme (R1) is the main theme and it is four measures long. If the Arunta men were staying away from camp hunting for several days, it would be easier to care for five or six men instead of twenty. It would also be easier to be able to come home with only a little meat and still be able to find the whole camp. An Arunta family is usually by itself, but each family belongs to a clan. The clan is made up of several families, who hunt and live separately. Nevertheless, the members of the clan are all related. This is kinship. The Arunta clans have to marry outside their own clan so the clans will mix. The clans have no other social connections so this is very important. Without this custom, the clans would not be friendly with each other and wars would probably happen often. There are no forms of government or authority, so the older men of the society make decisions for the society. They have no way of giving reasons for their decisions, so they are guides more than they are leaders. Kinship is very important here because if a serious crime erupts, such as murder, families will take revenge on families. The family is important because if the murderer?s family were small, they would surely suffer a great deal. These burns and scars that Maggie has may be the reason of her lack of knowledge simply because she was ashamed to be in the learning atmosphere. Dee, unlike Maggie, is very brilliant. There seems to be some tension and or jealousy of how smart Dee is. Mama and Maggie used to listen to Dee read to them while they where trapped sitting there ignorantly. Mama said it was knowledge they didn t need to know. She also said that she often fought off the urge to shake her. Since Mama didn t get a chance to go to school, she feels inferior to Dee s skill of knowledge. Mama s tension is because she didn t get a chance to learn as much as Dee has (Walker 87 88). Pride is the theme that seems to separate this family the most. It s having pride versus not having it. Maggie doesn t have it. She does not speak for herself when Dee wants the quilts. She lets mama speak for her. Like a scalded dog, she hides behind Mama when Dee arrives. Mama compares Maggie to a Lame animal...run over by a car... (Walker 88). The debate between many researchers is the argument of whether nature or nurture play a more important role in development. In this essay I will be looking into both aspects of nature and nurture focusing specifically on their influence towards language development in children. A main controversial question I will be looking into is the question of whether are we born already equipped with mechanisms which help us to learn language, or is language learned throughout a child s environment by, for example, imitation and repetition? Although Jim did learn speech it became noticeably odd to others around him as he had developed his own, unique grammatical characteristics and his poor articulation meant he didn t acquire normal language skills (Sachs et al 1981). Bruner suggests that this was due to lack of social interaction in his learning of speech, which again highlights the importance of nurture in promoting a child s language development. However, it can be argued with (Bruner 1964) that social interaction doesn t explain all the complexities of language acquisition. Almost every day the language we hear is often incorrect, poorly defined, incomplete and full of hesitations, mispronunciations and other errors, and yet despite this we still learn to talk following the correct grammatical rules. Again this indicates the idea of Chomsky s (1968) LAD model that children are born hard wired with the innate knowledge of linguistic rules and so these rules help the baby make estimations and presumptions about the language it is hearing. From these estimations and presumption the child can work out grammatical sets of rules and when more language is exposed to them, the more their language develops. Husbands, love your wives just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her to sanctify her by cleansing her with the washing of the water by the word, so that he may present the church to himself as glorious not having a stain or wrinkle, or any such blemish, but holy and blameless. Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Eph. 1:3) Paul praises God for two things, spiritual blessings and the redemption in Christ. (Eph. 1:3 14) Next Paul takes time to give thanks and prays for the Ephesian believers in his letter. He prays for they that might have wisdom and revelation so that they can be encouraged about what God is doing. This of course sets the stage for the rest of his letter. King George III did not have a great reputation in the colonies of America. They were not happy with how he was leading and taxing the colonies. After America became free, a new way of electing a leader was needed. At first America used the popular vote to elect leaders and then the people in smaller states started to get upset. They felt as if they were dirt on the bottom of everybody s shoe and they were not appreciated. So on February 1, 1877 the United States of America created the Electoral College. There are a larger number of votes because of all the people that live in the United States today. Many of them are from other countries and are separated into where they are from. The popular vote is what is decided for the state. It helps the representatives of the state to says which candidate to vote for. The Electoral College came into the United States in 1877, however that is the way that the U.S. has been voting for presidents ever since the Electoral College was invented. Only five presidents have won without the popular vote, now that could be for many reasons. Such as the representatives decided to vote opposite of the popular vote or it would mean that one party leads more of the country than the other. Then the country could be able to pass bills or agree with each other. I think that the Electoral College is needed. It helps the U.S. determine who the next president is. It takes the popular vote and tells how the section of the state is voting. The states have a certain amount of electors to use and that will tell whether the stated voted Republican or Democratic. Many people run for the president each time there is an election and the people always have a favorite. In 2016 it was Hillary Clinton; she lost to Donald Trump who did not have the popular vote. She was predicted to win the whole election. However that was not the case. The Electoral College said otherwise and said that Donald Trump won instead of Hillary. This electrical energy generation comes from the nuclear reactors in nuclear power plants. Nuclear reactors are built to start up and contain a nuclear chain reaction. These nuclear chain reactions can come in two forms: linear chain reaction and a critical mass. Both reactions are caused by nuclear fission; this is when then nuclei of certain isotopes are bombarded with neutrons, causing them to split into smaller fragments of the nuclei: smaller atoms, a staggering amount of energy and spare neutrons. Since neutrons have no charge, they can pass through the energy fields of the electrons and protons. A linear chain reaction is a series of nuclear fissions going in one straight line. In a linear chain reaction, some of the spare neutrons, caused by fission, produced will hit other nuclei and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to Alice Park (2016), More people died of drug overdoses in 2014 in the U.S. than in any other year (p.49). What people fail to realize is that drug abuse effects more than just the individual that uses them. Industrialization During The Late Abraham Lincoln America is the great exception where people can be born of humble origins and rise to the top to become the next Abraham Lincoln (Pettengill). However, in the Early Republic things began to change and industrialization created a huge gap between the rich and the poor and made it hard to rise to the top. Industrialization changed America from an agricultural country to one based on manufacturing goods and services. This change created advancement and expansion for the nation as a whole. Industrialization was very helpful to the economy but was an impediment for the working class, like Sam Patch. In the book, Sam Patch by Paul E. Johnson, it is evident how industrialization restricted the freedom of the working class and increased the great divide between the rich and the poor. The industrial revolution limited the amount of jobs available and created many unskilled labor jobs. Free labor economy made it possible for skilled workers to make money by independently selling their products. Industrial engineers found a way to build machines that were faster, more powerful, more efficient and more reliable than the human muscle. As seen in The American System of Manufacturers, Joseph Whitworth stated, the laboring class are comparatively few in number, but this is counter balanced by, and indeed may be regarded as one of the chief causes of, the eagerness with which they call in the aid of machinery in almost every department of industry (Whitworth 226) This machinery slowly ... It may appear that reality TV is a benign phenomenon but it is in fact a virus that has quickly diseased our society. More specifically, it attracts girls most mercilessly by affecting them negatively as to how they perceive themselves. Indeed, girls who watch reality TV learn that deceit and meanness is normal behaviour in order to achieve success, begin to self objectify more and have a higher expectation of more drama and conflict in their lives as well. The reality of reality TV is that it negatively portrays females. Is there no end to the onslaught on the female gender by television? Although the goals of individual regimes vary on their end goal, the means of achieving that goal are strikingly similar. From the distribution of propaganda exaggerating national progress, using food and necessary aid as incentive to increase productivity, to imposing nationwide terror through the deadly pursuit of enemies to the regime, the blatant commonality between these oppressors is their inventive ways of using fear and tapping into the human survival instinct to keep the population at bay. (Orwell 39). Urbanization is a process of population concentration as well as a process that advanced production modes substitute backward modes. Sparta s initial strategy at the beginning of the Peloponnesian War was an end state to prevent Athens growing their power and from ruling all Hellas. The concept was to move forces slowly and moderately, devastating Attica, harass the city of Athens, and draw them out to fight land war, while avoiding naval engagement. . It would not be an easy and quick war, and should avoid any kind of engagement with Athenian fleet. Sparta had only one means to achieve the desired end state, its Army. This was possible only by land with the army marching every season from Sparta through Corinth, conducting operations in Attica and coming back home. Strategic vulnerability was long term sustainment, lack of funds, and time critical in that Sparta s soldiers as farmers would not be able to mobilize for long campaigns. However, Athen s military leaders, Pericles particularly, understood that Athenian sea power would be more effective against Sparta on land than Sparta s land power at sea. As a conclusion of the analysis of the Sparta s initial strategy, I assess, it was not suitable for a long term war as Sparta herself was not prepared for a prolonged war. Strategy was acceptable and feasible, but only during fighting season. So overall success would be questionable considering time sensitivity, which will give enough time for Athene to recover after fighting season. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
